McCaffrey has prime opportunity to correct his rushing woes next Sunday when San Francisco faces an Arizona defense that just surrendered 198 rushing yards and two touchdowns to Seattle in Week 10.

McCaffrey rushed 28 times for 106 yards and a touchdown while catching five of six targets for 67 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-24 win over the Giants.

McCaffrey got wide open for a five-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter and powered in a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth. The star running back has produced multi-touchdown performances in two of his last three games, sandwiched around McCaffrey's worst outing of the season (68 scrimmage yards against Houston in Week 8). McCaffrey's fantasy outlook was a bit dimmer than usual coming in due to the quality of the Texans' defense, but the way the game unfolded made matters even more of an uphill battle. McCaffrey's carry, rushing yardage, receiving yardage and catch totals were all season lows, and nearly all his production as a pass catcher came on San Francisco's penultimate drive when he accrued 39 of his 43 receiving yards on a pair of catches. Given McCaffrey's body of work prior to Sunday, the downturn could certainly be labeled an outlier that the star back should have ample opportunity to bounce back from in a favorable Week 9 road matchup against the Giants next Sunday afternoon.

The levee finally broke in terms of McCaffrey's ground game after he cracked the century mark in rushing for the first time this season. McCaffrey also served as the 49ers' leading receiver in a truly dominating performance from start to finish. CMC has been an absolute monster in fantasy this season with over 900 combined yards from scrimmage, making him virtually matchup-proof heading into next Sunday's tilt against a stingy Houston defense.

McCaffrey took 17 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown while hauling in seven of eight targets for 57 yards in Sunday's 30-19 loss to the Buccaneers.

McCaffrey was the last man standing among the 49ers' front-line offensive players, so the fact he garnered plenty of attention from the Rams' front seven each time he took a handoff wasn't surprising. However, the versatile star once again made his mark as a receiver, logging his third consecutive tally of over 80 yards through the air. McCaffrey's catch and yardage totals were also both his third highest of the season, and with San Francisco projected to still be down multiple key players in a Week 6 road matchup against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Oct. 12, he should be in for a similarly busy day in that contest.

Opposing defenses have been stacking the box against San Francisco in the two games Mac Jones has started, resulting in less running lanes for McCaffrey and a subpar average of 3.6 yards per carry. Fortunately for fantasy managers, the dual-threat superstar's ability as a pass catcher (25-213-1) has helped offset his slow start on the ground. McCaffrey should check in as an elite RB1 for Week 4 when the 49ers host the Jaguars next Sunday.

McCaffrey has been trending well from a health perspective this offseason, after struggling with both Achilles and knee issues in 2024. He practiced without restrictions in OTAs and then ramped up his activity further during mandatory minicamp. McCaffrey relayed that he wanted to test his health and was satisfied with the results as he turns his focus to the 2025 season.

San Francisco seems to anticipate McCaffrey suiting up for Monday's regular-season opener against the Jets, but if he isn't able to fully shed all injury designations, backup running back Jordan Mason and depth options Isaac Guerendo (groin) and Patrick Taylor could benefit from increased opportunities.

Given the time that he missed during camp, McCaffrey could face some limitations with his snap and touch counts if he does in fact get the green light to play Monday.

McCaffrey also ran some half-speed routes on the side Thursday, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. The star running back is expected to sit out all of San Francisco's preseason games while he works his way back from a calf strain suffered early August, but at this point there don't seem to be any serious concerns about his Week 1 status. McCaffrey still has over three weeks to get healthy before San Francisco's regular-season opener against the Jets on Monday, Sept. 9.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that McCaffrey (calf) is nursing a calf strain and is unlikely to suit up for any preseason action, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Shanahan said McCaffrey's injury is short-term, but that he'll nonetheless miss "a couple weeks" of practice and likely all of San Francisco's exhibition matchups. Backups Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) and Isaac Guerendo (hamstring) are both dealing with injuries of their own, leading to the Monday signing of Matt Breida to join Jordan Mason as a depth option.

Fellow superstar Deebo Samuel stole the show with three combined touchdowns Sunday, but McCaffrey still provided stellar results for fantasy managers against the Eagles. The eight-year pro reached 1,000 rushing yards for the third time in his career while notching his 12th rushing touchdown in as many games this season. His rushing numbers alone would constitute a great fantasy campaign, but the MVP candidate has also produced a 51/429/5 line as a receiver. McCaffrey will look to bolster his bid for the award against the Seahawks next Sunday, which will be a rematch from Week 12 when he recorded 114 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

McCaffrey racked up 114 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 19 attempts while catching five of six targets for 25 yards in Thursday's 31-13 win over the Seahawks.

McCaffrey displayed no signs of fatigue despite receiving just three days off in between Thursday's two-score showing and a 26-touch performance where he went over 100 combined yards with a touchdown against the Buccaneers last Sunday. The MVP candidate put his signature combination of strength and elusiveness on display when he appeared to be engulfed by multiple Seattle defenders in the backfield before miraculously slipping through for his second touchdown of the evening. The pair of trips to the end zone gives the multifaceted superstar double-digit rushing touchdowns for just the second time in career, with the previous coming back in 2019 when he earned first-team All Pro honors after racking up 15 over 16 games. McCaffrey will finally get an opportunity to rest until the calendar turns for a rematch of last year's NFC Championship Game when the 49ers travel to the Link to take on the Eagles on Dec. 2.

He still surpassed 100 scrimmage yards for the fourth time in the last five games, and the workhorse running back has logged at least 22 touches in each of those games. Starting a new touchdown streak may not be easy in Week 11 against a Tampa Bay defense that has allowed only one scrimmage touchdown to a running back this season.

McCaffrey rushed 12 times for 54 yards and a touchdown and brought in six of seven targets for 64 yards and another score in the 49ers' 34-17 loss to the Bengals on Sunday.

Nevertheless, McCaffrey has scored at least once in all eight contests thus far and will next face a tough Jaguars run defense in a Week 10 road matchup following a Week 9 bye.

With 11 combined scores through seven weeks, McCaffrey is on pace to crush the 19 touchdowns he scored during his incredible 2019 campaign. Assuming his body is no worse for wear, expect McCaffrey to see plenty of work as the 49ers attempt to get back on track against the Bengals on Sunday.

McCaffrey had to fight for every yard in a physical battle against a Dallas defense that was intent on stopping the run. The early MVP candidate took a direct shot to the head on an illegal hit in the second quarter that the running back was slow to get up from. McCaffrey was able gather himself while the officiating crew sorted out Dallas' penalties and was back on the field for San Francisco's next play, eventually scoring a short touchdown to finish the drive. The fantasy stud has scored a rushing touchdown in every game this season, contributing eight combined scores for fantasy managers through five weeks. McCaffrey will look to extend his scoring streak against the Browns next Sunday, who boast a talented defensive roster but have struggled against the run this year (28th in rushing yards allowed).

Coach Matt Rhule said Monday that he "fully expects" McCaffrey (ankle) to remain with the Panthers for the 2022 season, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.

McCaffrey topped 400 touches during the 2019 campaign but has missed extended time in each of the last two seasons due to injuries. He appeared in 10 games across the last two years and rushed 158 times for 667 yards and six touchdowns while catching 54 of 60 targets for 492 yards and two touchdowns during that time. The 25-year-old has been mentioned in some trade rumors recently, but it appears as though the Panthers are committed to bringing back their star running back in 2022.
