Daniel Jones Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Colts vs Chiefs game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 9, 2025
Mixed bag in overseas win
Jones completed 19 of 26 passes for 255 yards with a touchdown and an interception while adding seven carries for 53 yards in the Colts' 31-25 overtime win over the Falcons in Berlin on Sunday. He also committed three fumbles, losing one.
ANALYSIS
Jones turned in one of the efficient efforts he's regularly managed in Shane Steichen's quarterback-friendly system, but ball security was a significant issue against an aggressive Falcons defense that sacked him seven times. Nevertheless, Jones persevered with the help of Jonathan Taylor's 244-yard, three-touchdown effort on the ground, while the veteran quarterback focused heavily on Tyler Warren and Alec Pierce when dropping back, and the latter was on the receiving end of Jones' one scoring toss from 37 yards out in the first quarter. Jones' one lost fumble, which came early in the third quarter, didn't lead to any Falcons points, and he'll head into the Week 11 bye ahead of a Week 12 road showdown against the Chiefs with 2,659 passing yards, 143 rushing yards and 20 total touchdowns.
Nov 2, 2025
Five turnovers in loss
Jones completed 31 of 50 passes for 342 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Steelers. He added three rushes for four yards and an additional touchdown to go along with two lost fumbles.
ANALYSIS
Jones looked to be on his way to another efficient day, as he went 5-for-9 for 73 yards and a rushing score on the Colts' first possession. However, he struggled with negative plays for much of the game, taking five sacks in addition to his five turnovers. Jones managed to pad his status with a few long drives in the fourth quarter, one of which concluded with a four-yard touchdown pass to Josh Downs. This marked Jones' first significant struggle of the season, and he'll now lead the Colts into a Week 10 matchup against the Falcons.
Oct 26, 2025
Throws three TDs in rout
Jones completed 21 of 29 pass attempts for 272 yards and three touchdowns while gaining three yards on his only carry in Sunday's 38-14 win over Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
It still feels surreal to say in 2025 that Jones entered a matchup that he should dominate easily, but that's exactly what he did in another impressive showing for the 7-1 Colts. It was the 28-year-old's first game tossing three touchdown passes with his new club. Part of Jones' breakout with Indianapolis has been his ability to correct the turnover woes we saw earlier in his career, resulting in a career-best 4.3 TD:INT. Jones should continue being a match made in heaven for both the Colts and fantasy managers in a road tilt against the Steelers next Sunday.
Oct 19, 2025
Tosses two TDs in big win
Jones completed 23 of 34 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 38-24 win over the Chargers. He added seven rushing yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old QB threw multiple TD passes for a third straight game, hitting Michael Pittman and Tyler Warren for scores in the red zone during the second quarter. Jones might have posted even better numbers in a more competitive contest, but the Colts focused on killing the clock in the fourth quarter after building a 38-17 lead. Jones already appears to be almost a shoe-in for the Comeback Player of the Year Award after seven weeks in charge of the Indy offense, leading the team to an NFL-best 6-1 record, and he'll take a 71.0 percent completion rate and 10:3 TD:INT into a Week 8 meeting with the Titans.
Oct 12, 2025
Multiple TDs in close win
Jones completed 22 of 30 passes for 212 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while adding five carries for 20 yards and another score in the Colts' 31-27 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Jones put together another efficient performance that's become par for the course for him in the Colts' scheme. Jones eclipsed the 70.0 percent completion threshold for the fourth time overall in the first six games, and the veteran signal-caller also tossed a pair of touchdown for the second consecutive contest by connecting with Tyler Warren and Josh Downs from eight and five yards out, respectively. Jones also added a three-yard scoring rush just before the halfway point of the second quarter, his fourth touchdown on the ground already. Jones will remain a highly coveted option in all formats for a Week 7 road showdown against the Chargers that could develop into a high-scoring affair.
Oct 5, 2025
Another efficient effort in win
Jones completed 20 of 29 passes for 212 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and added one rush for two yards in the Colts' 40-6 win over the Raiders on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by Indianapolis.
ANALYSIS
Jones' solid, efficient stat line was a fitting microcosm of what's come to define his body of work early in his Colts tenure, as the veteran signal-caller once again turned in a mistake-free effort that complemented the exploits of Jonathan Taylor and the defense perfectly. Jones worked with a tight circle of five targets overall, tossing his pair of touchdowns to Tyler Warren (11 yards) and Michael Pittman (four yards). Jones has completed a sharp 71.3 percent of his passes and posted a 6:2 TD:INT through his first five games at the helm of Indianapolis' offense, and he's added another three scores on the ground. Jones next takes aim at the Cardinals' defense in a Week 6 home clash.
Sep 28, 2025
Mixed performance in loss
Jones completed 24 of 33 passes for 262 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Jones continued to operate the Colts' offense efficiently, averaging 7.9 yards per attempt with three completions of more than 20 yards. He also earned a second touchdown on a 76-yard connection with Adonia Mitchell, but Mitchell nullified that by fumbling through the end zone for a touchback. Jones also made some mistakes of his own, throwing two interceptions on underthrown deep passes -- the latter of which came late in the game as the Colts were trying to tie the game. Jones has now passed for at least 250 yards in three of four games this season, though he has only one score in consecutive contests.
Sep 21, 2025
Efficient showing to down Titans
Jones completed 18 of 25 passes for 228 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 41-20 win over the Titans. He added four rushes for 27 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones and the Colts enjoyed a three-possession lead by early in the third quarter, so he took to the air only nine times in the second half. The results when Jones took to the air remained strong, as he connected with Michael Pittman for a 20-yard touchdown, and he also completed seven passes of at least 15 yards. Jones failed to reach the end zone on the ground for the first time this season, though he continues to take care of the ball and lead an efficient Colts offense.
Sep 15, 2025
Strong showing against Denver
Jones completed 23 of 34 passes for 316 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 29-28 win over the Broncos. He added six rush attempts for two yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Jones proved his Week 1 performance against Miami was no fluke, as he completed three passes of more than 40 yards while averaging 9.4 yards per attempt. He effectively targeted all of his pass catchers, though Tyler Warren looks to be his favorite of the group. Jones also picked up his third rushing touchdown of the season after falling into the end zone on the second of two consecutive quarterback sneaks at the goal line. Jones has had a strong start to his time with the Colts, as he now has five total touchdowns with no turnovers while averaging 9.3 yards per attempt across two games.
Sep 7, 2025
Excels in team debut
Jones completed 22 of 29 passes for 272 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions and added seven rushes for 26 yards and two more scores in the Colts' 33-8 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Jones opened the game hot and never looked back, leading the Colts to a field goal on his first regular-season possession as the team's quarterback while recording four completions on that drive. Jones was near perfect the rest of the way as well, and he connected with Michael Pittman for a 27-yard strike on his one scoring toss while also displaying plenty of chemistry with rookie first-round pick Tyler Warren (seven receptions). Jones also added his trademark rushing contributions, but he and the rest of the team's air attack get a big step up in competition when the Broncos come to town for a Week 2 matchup next Sunday.
Aug 19, 2025
Named as starter
Jones has been named the starting quarterback for Week 1 against Miami, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Colts coach Shane Steichen reportedly told Jones and Anthony Richardson on Tuesday morning. There wasn't a decisive outcome in two preseason games, but Jones seemingly made a better impression on the practice field this spring and summer. His poor track record with the Giants suggests Richardson is likely to make starts at some point this season.
Aug 16, 2025
Sharp in preseason start
Jones completed seven of 11 passes for 101 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and netted no gain on one carry in the Colts' 23-19 preseason loss to the Packers on Saturday afternoon. He also fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Per Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan, Jones' afternoon didn't exactly get off to an encouraging start considering he missed an open Tyler Warren on a third-down pass that was overthrown. However, the veteran was much sharper on his second possession, helming an 11-play, 77-yard march on which he had a big 23-yard completion wiped out by an offensive holding penalty against Adonai Mitchell. Jones completed passes to four different targets, with the highlights 22- and 25-yard connections to Michael Pittman and Warren, respectively. Anthony Richardson also put some good play on film following Jones' time in the contest, so it remains to be seen if next Saturday's preseason finale at Cincinnati will serve as the final proving ground for both players in their battle for the No. 1 quarterback job.
Aug 10, 2025
Starting second preseason game
Head coach Shane Steichen said Sunday that Jones will start Saturday's preseason game against the Packers, Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
The team plans for Jones to play a couple of series before Anthony Richardson checks in for the rest of the first half. Richardson started the preseason opener against the Ravens but exited on the second drive due to an injured finger, clearing the path for Jones to check in for the remainder of the first half. Jones and Richardson are locked in a tight competition for the starting quarterback role, though the spot may be Richardson's to lose given the team's greater investment in him as the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Aug 7, 2025
Replaces injured Richardson
Jones completed 10 of 21 passes for 144 yards in Thursday's preseason game at Baltimore, playing five drives after Anthony Richardson left with a finger injury.
ANALYSIS
Richardson got the start and was scheduled to play midway through the second quarter, with Jones then coming in and playing until halftime. Instead, Richardson left on the second drive, leaving Jones to play the rest of the first half with an offense mostly constructed of second-stringers. His numbers don't look great, and he didn't have any rush attempts, but Jones did lead the Colts to three field-goal attempts on his five drives, avoiding turnovers and taking only one sack. He was scheduled to play the first quarter and a half in the Colts' second preseason game, Aug. 16 against Green Bay, but the plan may change after Richardson's early exit Thursday night.
Aug 5, 2025
Not starting at Baltimore
Colts coach Shane Steichen said Tuesday that Anthony Richardson will start Thursday's preseason game at Baltimore, with Jones then starting the following week against Green Bay, Angela Moryan of WISH News 8 reports.
ANALYSIS
The plan calls for Richardson to play until midway through the second quarter Thursday night, with Jones then finishing out the first half. They'll reverse roles in the second week of the preseason, giving Jones a chance to work with the starters, though some may interpret the preseason rotation as a sign that he's trailing Richardson in their summer job battle. Reports from Indianapolis beat writers suggest nothing from the practice field convincingly points to one QB over the other.
Aug 4, 2025
Will play in preseason opener
Colts coach Shane Steichen said Sunday that both Jones and Anthony Richardson will "play a good amount" in the preseason opener Thursday at Baltimore, JJ Stankevitz of Colts.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Steichen didn't name a starter, but he did say that whichever quarterback gets less playing time in this game will then get more snaps in the second week of the preseason. Reports out of Colts training camp put Jones and Richardson neck-and-neck in their competition for the starting job, with both reportedly improving in recent practices after struggling through the first few days.
Aug 1, 2025
QB competition remains close
Jones and Anthony Richardson have remained neck and neck throughout the Colts training camp quarterback competition, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The two signal-callers continue to share training camp reps, with coach Shane Steichen not yet inclined to reveal his plan for who will get the starting nod in the team's Aug. 7 preseason opener against the Ravens. Following Thursday's practice, Steichen noted that both players "have made plays at a high level the past couple of days, and that's what you want to see. You want to see growth; you want to see completions; you want to see the offense moving up and down the field. So, both have been doing a really good job."

Splits reps with Richardson
Jones and Anthony Richardson split first-team QB snaps during Wednesday's opening training camp practice, Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, the Colts held four team periods during Wednesday's session, with Jones working with the starters for the first two, while Richardson took the first-team snaps during the final two. In the process, each quarterback was given 16 team snaps, which aligns with coach Shane Steichen's plan to alternate the two signal-callers in training camp, as they compete for the Week 1 starting assignment. While there's a chance that Richardson could have some volume restrictions in the coming days after experiencing soreness in his throwing shoulder this summer, the 2023 first-rounder was cleared to participate in training camp, setting the stage for a job battle that Steichen noted is "really going to come down to who's the most consistent" as the summer progresses, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site previously reported.

Opportunity knocks
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Thursday that Richardson (shoulder) is dealing with an injury and will not participate in mandatory minicamp June 10-12, leaving Jones in position to dominate first-team reps.
ANALYSIS
Jones and Richardson have been positioned to split first-team reps in what looks like a truly open competition for the No. 1 quarterback gig, but the latter signal-caller is now sidelined due to an injury to his throwing shoulder and without a return timetable other than hopefully being back "at some point" in training camp, per James Boyd of The Athletic. That leaves Jones, who inked a one-year, $14 million deal with Indianapolis in March, staring down an opportunity to impress while handling the lion's share of first-team reps in mandatory minicamp, and potentially longer depending on Richardson's recovery. Boyd reports that Richardson's shoulder injury is related to the AC joint issue that ended his 2023 rookie campaign early. While Boyd notes that Richardson's current injury isn't expected to require surgery, this appears to be a situation that could fluctuate. For at least mandatory minicamp, Jones will work to take advantage of the opportunity before him and establish quick chemistry with top wideouts M
Mar 31, 2025
Will split first-team reps
Jones and Anthony Richardson (back) will split first-team reps this spring, JJ Stankevitz of Colts.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Shane Steichen and GM Chris Ballard both suggested there's no timetable for naming a Week 1 starter, with both QBs expected to get significant first-team reps throughout the offseason program (and possibly into training camp). The Colts recently signed Jones to a one-year, $14 million contract that includes $13.15 million guaranteed, putting him above the market for backup quarterbacks but not quite in starter range. It sounds like he and Richardson will split reps 50/50 at the beginning of OTAs.

Deal with Indy made official
The Colts officially agreed to terms with Jones on Wednesday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Stephen Holder of ESPN, Jones' one-year deal with Indianapolis is for $14 million. The stage is thus set for Jones -- the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft -- to compete with Anthony Richardson (the No. 4 overall pick in 2023) for the Colts' starting QB job ahead of the coming season.
Mar 11, 2025
In line to sign with Indy
Jones is slated to sign with the Colts as both sides work to finalize a one-year contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones' contract will be a one-year, $14 million deal once finalized, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The former Giants quarterback reportedly had an avenue to return to Minnesota, where he could have served as a veteran mentor to J.J. McCarthy (knee), but landing in Indianapolis will instead provide Jones a clear opportunity to compete with Anthony Richardson (back) for the No. 1 gig. General manager Chris Ballard has referred to an upcoming "open competition" between Richardson and a signal-caller to be brought in this offseason, a role now to be filled by Jones.
Jan 29, 2025
Plays zero snaps for Minnesota
Jones didn't play a single offensive snap for the Vikings after he was signed by the team in November.
ANALYSIS
After completing 216 of 341 passes (63.3 percent) for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions through 10 games for the at-the-time 2-8 Giants, Jones was released by the team and subsequently signed to the Vikings' practice squad. Jones was elevated from the practice squad ahead of Minnesota's wild-card playoff loss to the Rams, but he was deemed the emergency, third quarterback for that contest. Jones is slated to become a free agent this offseason, and it's unclear if the Vikings have plans to continue to try and develop the 27-year-old quarterback.
Jan 13, 2025
Emergency QB for wild-card round
Jones (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday's NFC wild-card game against the Rams but will serve as the Vikings emergency third-string quarterback, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones joined the Vikings' practice squad in late November after being released by the Giants. He wasn't elevated to Minnesota's active roster during the regular season, but he was signed to the active roster this past Tuesday. As the emergency quarterback, Jones will not be allowed to play Monday unless starter Sam Darnold and backup Nick Mullens were both to be taken out of the game due to injury, illness or ejection.
Jan 7, 2025
Joins active roster
The Vikings signed Jones off their practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
After signing with Minnesota's practice squad in late November, Jones was never elevated to the 53-man roster for the final six games of the regular season. Even so, his ample starting experience during his time with the Giants could make him the Vikings' top backup option at quarterback ahead of Nick Mullens if starter Sam Darnold were to miss time at any point during Minnesota's postseason run. Jones is still scheduled to hit free agency this offseason, though by adding him to their roster, the Vikings will net a compensatory draft pick if the signal-caller signs elsewhere.
Nov 27, 2024
Joining Minnesota's practice squad
Jones agreed Wednesday to sign with the Vikings' practice squad after clearing waivers Monday, Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network report.
ANALYSIS
After drawing interest from plenty of suitors upon getting waived by the Giants last week, Jones was eager to join a playoff-contending club and appears to have found a good landing spot in Minnesota. Though Sam Darnold will remain the Vikings' starting quarterback, Jones is expected to be elevated from the practice squad and serve as Darnold's backup once he gets up to speed with head coach Kevin O'Connell's offensive system. By joining the practice squad rather than Minnesota's 53-man roster, Jones will have the option to sign with another organization if a better opportunity emerges elsewhere later in the season before re-entering free agency this spring. Jones had started in each of the Giants' first 10 games of the season and completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions while carrying 67 times for 265 yards and two scores.
Nov 25, 2024
Won't join Las Vegas
Jones has eliminated the Raiders from consideration to be the next team he plays for, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Las Vegas seemed to present a logical landing spot for Jones, especially after Gardner Minshew suffered a season-ending broken collarbone Sunday against Denver. However, Jones is reportedly interested in linking up with a postseason contender, which the 2-9 Raiders certainly are not. Schultz reports that Jones has "substantial interest" from multiple playoff teams, but it's unclear if any of those would give the former Giant a chance to compete for a starting role.
Nov 24, 2024
Could sign next week
Jones has been contacted by 10 teams, including one team with whom he could become a starting candidate in Week 13, Jay Glazer reported on "Fox NFL Sunday."
ANALYSIS
Jones reportedly would prefer to sign with a playoff contender, but it's interesting that there's at least one landing spot where he could step in as a starter. The quarterback was waived Friday and is expected to formally clear waivers Monday, at which point he would be able to sign with a team.
Nov 22, 2024
Granted release by Giants
The Giants announced Friday that they're releasing Jones.
ANALYSIS
The team's statement says Jones asked to be released and was granted his request. He'll now be subject to waivers, although his large contract ensures nobody will put in a claim, which means he'll soon be a free agent and able to sign with any team. Offset language in the contract means Jones has no immediate incentive to sign for more than the veteran's minimum, much like Steelers QB Russell Wilson this past offseason. As such, Jones should find work soon enough if he so desires, be it as a backup for a contender or a potential late-season starter for a non-contender with QB woes. The Giants, meanwhile, are moving forward with Tommy DeVito as their starting quarterback and Drew Lock in the backup role.
Nov 18, 2024
Drops to third on depth chart
Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed Monday that Jones will serve as the Giants' No. 3 quarterback moving forward, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In his press conference, Daboll didn't go into specifics about why he elected to drop Jones from first to third on the depth chart, but the decision is almost certainly related to the quarterback's contract, which would guarantee him $23 million for 2025 if he were to suffer an injury at any point over the remainder of the season. Though New York plans to make Jones a healthy inactive as the emergency third quarterback for its final seven games, he'll remain with the team and could still trigger the injury guarantee if he gets hurt in a team activity, per Patricia Traina of SI.com. Tommy DeVito will take over as the Giants' starting quarterback beginning with Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, while Drew Lock will remain in the top backup role as New York plays out the string on a non-contending campaign before presumably cutting bait with Jones this offseason.
Nov 18, 2024
Replaced as starter
The Giants are in line to turn from Jones to Tommy DeVito as their starting quarterback Sunday against the Buccaneers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Following the team's bye week, the 2-8 Giants elected to pivot from Jones and plan to turn to DeVito, rather than previous No. 2 QB Drew Lock. Aside from the team's record and the level of Jones' play this season, Jordan Raanan of ESPN notes that the Giants also had to factor in that there is a $23 million injury guarantee in Jones' contract for 2025 that becomes fully guaranteed if the QB gets injured and is unable to pass a physical in the offseason.
Nov 11, 2024
Status to be determined
Coach Brian Daboll was noncommittal about Jones' status as the Giants' starting quarterback moving forward, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports. "We're going to spend a lot of time watching tape and evaluating," Daboll said Monday. "We're evaluating our team at the bye week."
ANALYSIS
The Giants enter their Week 11 bye with a 2-8 record, and Jones hasn't exactly been lighting it up, completing 63 percent of his passes for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, taking 67 carries for 265 yards and two TDs and fumbling four times (two lost). Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Jones has an injury guarantee in his contract for $23 million if he gets hurt and isn't able to pass a physical by March. As a result, the team may consider a change under center from Jones to backup Drew Lock, and the bye week could be just the time to make such a decision.
Nov 10, 2024
Two picks in loss
Jones completed 22 of 37 passes for 190 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 20-17 overtime loss to the Panthers. He added seven rushes for 26 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Jones and the Giants offense got off to a miserable start, as he completed only six of 14 passes for 54 yards with an interception through two quarters. He managed to pick up his performance in the second half, highlighted by lengthy completions of 23 and 19 yards. Jones also found the end zone on a two-yard run midway through the fourth quarter. While he managed to salvage his day, Jones failed to throw for a touchdown in four of his last five games and has been held under 200 passing yards on three occasions in that span.
Nov 3, 2024
Ends MetLife Stadium TD drought
Jones completed 20 of 26 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns while rushing seven times for 54 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-22 loss to the Commanders. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Jones produced his first MetLife Stadium touchdown in 672 days with a two-yard touchdown pass to Chris Manhertz in the second quarter, but the much maligned quarterback finished the first half with zero passing yards. He thought he had a three-yard touchdown pass to Wan'Dale Robinson in the third quarter, but it was called back due to a questionable offensive pass interference penalty. There was no doubt about Jones' two-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter, which was his first rushing score of the season and part of his second-highest rushing yardage total of the season, two shy of Jones' 56 rushing yards against the Bengals in Week 6. Jones tacked on a 35-yard touchdown pass to Theo Johnson later in the fourth, but the Giants' comeback attempt came up short, dropping New York to 2-7 heading into a Week 10 matchup against the Panthers in Munich, Germany.
Oct 29, 2024
Staying in starting role
Head coach Brian Daboll said Tuesday that Jones will remain the Giants' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After turning the ball over just once while completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 7.0 yards per attempt from Weeks 2 through 6, Jones has regressed over the past three games, all of which were losses in which the Giants failed to score more than 20 points. Though Daboll remains committed to Jones as the team's starter for Week 9, the 27-year-old may be on a shorter leash coming off a poor showing in the Giants' 26-18 loss to the Steelers on Monday, when he took four sacks and completed 24 of 38 passes for 264 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while also losing a fumble. In addition to his recent stretch of substandard play, Jones' contract situation could also lead to his benching at some point down the road. He will be fully guaranteed $23 million for 2025 if he gets injured or is unable to pass a physical this offseason, so the Giants could have some motivation to hold him out if they decide Jones isn't their long-term solution at quarterback.
Oct 28, 2024
Late turnovers seal loss
Jones completed 24 of 38 passes for 264 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed three times for one yard in the Giants' 26-18 loss to the Steelers on Monday night. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Jones' final yardage total was more than adequate and was partly comprised of an impressive 43-yard strike to Darius Slayton in the first half. However, the embattled veteran signal-caller doomed the Giants' comeback attempts on two occasions during the latter portion of the fourth quarter, fumbling at the Steelers' 27-yard line on a sack by T.J. Watt and then overthrowing Devin Singletary at the nearly the same spot on the field with 34 seconds remaining, resulting in a game-sealing interception for Pittsburgh. Jones has now gone three straight games without a touchdown pass while also throwing a pair of picks in that span, and a switch to Drew Lock could be afoot ahead of a Week 9 home matchup against the surging Commanders.
Oct 20, 2024
Gets replaced late in rout
Jones completed 14 of 21 passes for 99 yards and gained 20 rushing yards on five carries in Sunday's 28-3 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
With the game out of reach, Jones got benched in the fourth quarter and replaced by Drew Lock. The move doesn't seem to be an indication that coach Brian Daboll is contemplating a more permanent switch however, as per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com, Daboll said after the game he was just looking to "create a spark" with his team down by 25 points, and he made it clear that Jones was his starting QB. It's the third time in the last four games Jones has failed to produce a touchdown, but he'll get a chance to rebound in Week 8 against the Steelers.
Oct 13, 2024
No touchdowns in defeat
Jones completed 22 of 41 pass attempts for 205 yards, no touchdowns and an interception while rushing 11 times for 56 yards in Sunday's 17-7 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Jones was stymied by a bottom-third defense at home in a rare game that featured no passing touchdowns for either side. This was the Giants' franchise quarterback's third game this season in which he has produced zero total touchdowns while throwing at least one interception. We are just six weeks into the fantasy season, so that rate of incompetence is not a great sign if you're relying on Jones as a starter in fantasy this year. Consider the 27-year-old a middling option for next Sunday's contest against Philadelphia.
Oct 6, 2024
No Nabers, no problem
Jones completed 23 of 34 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 29-20 win over the Seahawks. He added 11 rushing attempts for 38 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones overcame adversity on multiple fronts to get the Giants to 2-3, as New York was missing wide receiver Malik Nabers (concussion) and running back Devin Singletary (concussion), and the Giants fell into an early hole when Eric Gray's fumble just outside the goal line was returned 100 yards the other way for a Seattle touchdown. Jones helped the offense bounce back by leading the Giants right back down the field on a drive capped by a seven-yard touchdown pass to Wan'Dale Robinson in the second quarter, then added a 30-yard touchdown pass to Darius Slayton in the third. Up next for Jones is a primetime matchup against the Bengals on Sunday Night Football in Week 6.
Sep 26, 2024
Strong numbers in loss
Jones completed 29 of 40 passes for 281 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed four times for three yards in the Giants' 20-15 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Jones' passing yardage tally was a season high and certainly served his fantasy managers well, but it was a hollow number from a real-life sense to an extent. The embattled signal-caller focused very heavily on both rookie sensation Malik Nabers (concussion) and Wan'Dale Robinson, with 23 of his completions and 186 of his yards going to the talented duo. Nabers' absence late certainly didn't help Jones on the Giants' last-gasp drive, which culminated in an interception at the Cowboys' four-yard line following two incompletions to open the possession. Jones should have a chance of having Nabers back in the fold for a Week 5 road matchup against the Seahawks on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Connects with Nabers for two TDs
Jones completed 24 of 34 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns while rushing twice for 20 yards in Sunday's 21-15 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Jones settled down after having a first-quarter interception wiped off the board by a roughing the passer penalty, tossing touchdown passes of three and five yards to Malik Nabers in the second quarter en route to 178 first-half passing yards. The Giants relied primarily on their defense and running game after halftime to clinch their first win of the season. Jones has bounced back after struggling in the season opener, leading three touchdown drives in each of the last two games to build some momentum heading into Thursday's home game against the AFC East rival Cowboys, who outscored the Giants 89-17 across two meetings last season.

Tosses two TDs in loss
Jones completed 16 of 28 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Commanders. He added 32 rushing yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
It was a better performance than Jones managed in the Giants' opener, but the team still came up short. Some bad luck contributed to the loss, as Graham Gano (hamstring) was injured on the opening kickoff Sunday, and New York was unsuccessful on one extra point try and two two-point conversions -- both pass attempts from Jones to Darius Slayton -- the rest of the afternoon. The quarterback could be benched at any point in 2024 if the Giants decide they're going to move on from him next offseason, and don't want the injury guarantee in his contract to lock a $23 million salary for 2025. For now though, Jones figures to be under center in Week 3 against the Browns.

Remains starting QB
Coach Brian Daboll said Monday that Jones remains the Giants' starting quarterback heading into a Week 2 matchup on the road against Washington, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Daboll also said that New York won't be discussing any additions to the quarterback room or any changes to the distribution of practice reps, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. Jones was dreadful in Sunday's season-opening loss to Minnesota, in which he completed 22 of 42 passes for 186 yards, with zero touchdowns and two interceptions (one pick-six). The sixth-year QB will work to bounce back Week 2 in a favorable matchup against the Commanders, but if Jones is unable to spark the offense again his grip on the starting gig may not hold firm much longer.

Dreadful in Week 1 loss
Jones completed 22 of 42 passes for 186 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Vikings. He added six rushing attempts for 15 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones failed to lead the Giants into the end zone, threw a pick-six in the third quarter and was intercepted in Minnesota's end zone in the fourth. Expectations were already low for Jones after he posted a 2:6 TD:INT before a season-ending ACL tear last season, but he failed to clear even that low bar in his return to action. He'll have a nice opportunity to bounce back in Week 2, when the Giants travel to Washington to face the Commanders, against whom Jones is 5-1-1 with a 10:3 TD:INT and 324 rushing yards in his career.

Likely to sit Saturday
Most of the Giants' starters, including Jones, are expected to be held out of Saturday's preseason finale against the Jets, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones also skipped New York's preseason opener against Detroit on Aug. 8, but he did suit up for the team's second exhibition contest last Saturday versus Houston, playing the entire first half and completing 11 of 18 passes for 138 yards and two interceptions while adding 12 yards on one carry on the ground. That (and the Giants' preseason joint practices with the Lions and Jets) appear to be enough to satisfy the team's brass in regard to Jones' readiness for the regular season despite the fact that the QB didn't play after Week 9 last year due to a torn ACL. Jones will also be working with a number of different pieces on offense this season -- Darren Waller retired and Saquon Barkley departed to Philadelphia while New York drafted dynamic wideout Malk Nabers with the sixth overall pick in April's NFL Draft.
Aug 17, 2024
Rusty in return to game action
Jones completed 11 of 18 passes for 138 yards and two interceptions in Saturday's 28-10 preseason loss to the Texans. He gained 12 yards on his lone carry.
ANALYSIS
The Giants' first-team offense stayed on the field for the entire first half, giving Jones plenty of reps in his first game action since he suffered a torn ACL in Week 9 of last season. The 27-year-old quarterback predictably looked rusty and threw two bad picks on back-to-back possessions, one of which came from his own end zone and was returned five yards for a touchdown by Jalen Pitre. Jones also had some good moments too though, including a 44-yard connection with Darius Slayton in the second quarter that set up a one-yard TD plunge for Devin Singletary. The Giants play one more exhibition contest next Saturday against the Jets, but it's not yet clear if Jones will suit up for it, or if he won't be under center again until Week 1 against the Vikings.

Set to play in second preseason game
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that Jones will likely play in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones received full medical clearance ahead of training camp after completing his recovery from November surgery to repair an ACL tear, but the Giants nonetheless chose to hold him out of their 14-3 win over the Lions in the preseason opener Thursday. No. 2 quarterback Drew Lock received the start and suffered a hip injury that will keep him from suiting up against the Texans, so Tommy DeVito now stands to operate as the top backup to Jones on Saturday. Daboll didn't go into specifics regarding how long Jones might stay in the game against the Texans, but the 27-year-old signal-caller should at least get a series or two.
Aug 8, 2024
Not expected to play Thursday
Jones isn't expected to play in Thursday's preseason opener against Detroit, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The same is true for most of the Giants' other starters, including new No. 1 receiver Malik Nabers. Raanan notes that the second week of the preseason, against Houston, is when the Giants are most likely to play starters. There haven't been any reports of setbacks with Jones' surgically repaired knee.

Full go for start of camp
Coach Brian Daboll confirmed Wednesday that Jones (knee) is cleared for full-team drills and will lead the first-team offense at training camp, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Daboll even said Jones is "getting all the reps" with the first-team offense, essentially confirming that the 27-year-old will be New York's Week 1 starter. However, Daboll didn't shut down the possibility of Jones being benched later in the season to avoid future injury guarantees in his contract, instead telling reporters that any such consideration is a "ways down the road," per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. The combination of Jones' rushing ability and an improved receiving corps in New York could make him a surprisingly useful second QB in fantasy leagues, but he should probably be dropped down the rankings in formats that put a premium on late-season production. In addition to the risk of a situation like Russell Wilson's in Denver late last year, there's always the possibility Jones is simply benched in favor of Drew Lock for performance reasons, not to mention concerns about Jones' rushing production dropping after an ACL tear and lengthy rehab process.

Will be active for training camp
Jones (knee) won't be placed on the PUP list and will be active from the start of training camp next week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones said early Tuesday during an appearance on the "Simms Complete" podcast that he's had no setbacks in his recovery from last November's ACL surgery, and the Giants' decision not to place him on the PUP list essentially confirms that. This news means the QB is unlikely to have any limitations in preparing for the upcoming campaign and will be ready to go as New York's Week 1 starter, assuming he doesn't incur any new health issues prior to the beginning of the season. Jones will lead a new-look Giants offense that lost Saquon Barkley in free agency and Darren Waller to retirement in the offseason while adding new first-string RB Devin Singletary and exciting rookie Malik Nabers, who is slated to be the team's No. 1 wideout.
Jul 16, 2024
'No real setbacks' in ACL recovery
Jones (knee) said Tuesday during an appearance on the "Simms Complete" podcast that he has had a "pretty smooth process" and "no real setbacks" in his recovery from the ACL repair surgery he underwent in November, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports. "At this point, I'm doing pretty much everything -- running, cutting, everything I need to do," Jones said.
ANALYSIS
Jones didn't explicitly say that he's been medically cleared for the start of training camp next week, but he previously said in June that he expects to be on the field for the Giants' first practice of the summer. Once he's fully cleared for 11-on-11 contact drills, a healthy Jones will once again look to prove that he's the Giants' long-term answer at quarterback. The Giants eschewed using the No. 6 overall pick in April's draft on a signal-caller and instead selected wideout Malik Nabers, and the front office appears to be betting on the addition of the dynamic receiver and better health from the offensive line being enough to prop up the Jones-led offense. Jones is entering the second season of the four-year, $160 million contract he signed in March 2023, and if the Giants elect to go in a different direction at quarterback following the 2024 campaign, the team would have to take on only $22.2 million in dead money by cutting him.

Plans to be ready for training camp
Jones (knee) isn't participating in 11-on-11 drills at June minicamp but said Tuesday "I expect to be ready to go first day of training camp," Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones said his right knee feels "really good" coming off ACL surgery, and that his cuts now feel cleaner than earlier in spring activities. Back in OTAs, Jones managed to shed his knee brace and take part in some 7-on-7 drills, so by all metrics his recovery progress remains encouraging. The Giants remain committed to Jones as an uncontested starter with Drew Lock positioned in a clear backup role, but this could well be a make-or-break season for the 2019 first-round pick.
Jun 11, 2024
Not quite ready for 11-on-11s.
Jones (knee) won't do team drills at June minicamp but may be ready by training camp, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Updates this spring suggest Jones' recovery is coming along well, with the QB saying in late May that he anticipates starting Week 1. He participated in some 7-on-7 drills at OTAs and has already shed his knee brace during workouts. For now, Drew Lock will continue taking most of the first-team QB reps in 11-on-11s.
May 23, 2024
Expects to be ready by Week 1
Jones (knee) said Thursday he anticipates starting Week 1, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been participating in 7-on-7 drills at OTAs and said "I don't have any doubt about it" when asked whether he'd suit up to take on the Vikings in Week 1. Additionally, he's already shed his knee brace in workouts, and all signs are that his recovery from a right ACL tear is proceeding smoothly. Jones signed a four-year, $160 million extension last offseason, but that may not give him significant job security if he logs an uninspiring 2024 campaign given both his injury history, and his terrible start to the 2023 season. It may not even be out of the realm of possibility that Drew Lock pushes for the Giants' starting gig, should he log a strong offseason.
May 20, 2024
Continues to progress in rehab
Jones (knee) took part in 7-on-7 drills during Monday's OTA, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After signing a four-year, $160 million contract with the Giants last offseason, Jones didn't live up to increase in pay in 2023, mostly due to a neck injury and then a torn ACL that he suffered in his right knee Week 9. Overall, he completed 108 of 160 passes (67.5 percent) for 909 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions while taking 40 carries for 206 yards and another TD in six appearances. Since undergoing surgery Nov. 22, Jones progressed to throwing by late February and running and some cutting by early May, with the aim to receive full medical clearance by training camp. He's expected to retake the reins of the offense once he's healthy, but two of the options on the quarterback depth chart behind him (Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito) have starting experience under their belts.
May 1, 2024
Running and cutting in ACL rehab
Jones (knee) said Wednesday that he's been running and cutting during his rehab from a torn right ACL, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones went on to say he's "doing everything," and the plan remains for him to be ready for training camp. The veteran QB tore his right ACL last November and also dealt with neck issues once again, though Jones said he's over that injury. The Giants didn't use a draft pick on a quarterback this offseason, only swapping out veteran backup Tyrod Taylor for Drew Lock in free agency. Jones should get every shot to remain the Giants' starter despite a dreadful 2023.
Apr 15, 2024
Hopes to be fully cleared for camp
Jones noted Monday that he hasn't had any setbacks in his recovery from Nov. 22 surgery to address a right ACL tear, Darryl Slater of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
The report adds that Jones says he's past the neck issue that he dealt with last season prior to hurting his knee, indicating that it was just a stinger. At this stage, the QB is throwing and hopes to participate in spring practices in some fashion, with Jones adding that he's aiming be fully cleared for the start of training camp. When healthy, Jones is in line to reclaim his starting role for the Giants, who added fellow signal-caller Drew Lock in free agency and also roster Tommy DeVito. Moreover, it's possible that the team adds depth at the position in the upcoming NFL draft.
Mar 25, 2024
Expected to start once healthy
Coach Brian Daboll isn't sure if Jones (knee) will be ready for Week 1 but told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Saturday that Jones will be "the guy" at quarterback once he's able to play.
ANALYSIS
Daboll made it clear Drew Lock was signed as a backup, though that may entail dominating first-team reps throughout spring practices and into training camp. There's a potential complication for both Jones and Lock in the form of the upcoming NFL Draft, with New York picking sixth overall and perhaps considering a quarterback. On the other hand, an early pick could mean significant help for Jones, as popular mock draft matches at No. 6 include LSU WR Malik Nabers and Notre Dame OT Joe Alt. There are a number of potential hurdles for Jones this upcoming season, starting with his ongoing rehab from Nov. 22 surgery on a torn ACL. Later in the season, future injury guarantees in his contract could end up impacting the Giants' decision on who to start at quarterback, as was the case for Denver and Russell Wilson in 2023.

Resumes stationary throwing
General manager Joe Schoen said Monday that Jones (knee) has resumed stationary throwing and that he has "faith in [Jones] as our starting quarterback," Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones, who is recovering from a right ACL tear, resumed stationary throwing two weeks ago and remains on track for the start of training camp. Schoen added that Jones could be ready for 7-on-7 work in spring. The Giants have consistently talked of Jones as their starter since the end of the 2023 regular season, and he's only one year into his four-year, $160 million contract extension, but the soon-to-be 27-year-old's miserable 2023 campaign also can't be overlooked. In six games before his season-ending injury Jones compiled just 909 passing yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 108 of 160 pass attempts (5.7 YPA). If a solid quarterback prospect falls to New York at the No. 6 overall pick in April's draft, the team's true confidence in Jones will be put to the test.
Jan 30, 2024
Viewed as team's starting QB
General manager Joe Schoen reiterated Tuesday that the Giants are planning for Jones (knee) to enter training camp as their starter, though Schoen noted that the team isn't ruling out selecting a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite being rewarded with a four-year, $160 million contract extension last offseason, Jones didn't quell concerns that he's the long-term answer at quarterback for the Giants. He completed 108 of 160 pass attempts (67.5 percent) for 909 yards (5.7 YPA), two touchdowns and six interceptions to go with 206 yards and a touchdown on 40 carries before suffering a season-ending ACL tear in his right knee in Week 9 and undergoing surgery Nov. 22. Given the mid-season timing of his procedure, Jones should have at attaining full medical clearance prior to the start of training camp in late July, but that won't necessarily give him any assurances that he'll retain the starting gig all season. The Giants own the No. 6 overall pick in the draft, putting them in solid position to select a signal-caller from what's regarded as a strong quarterback class. If the Giants elect to address needs elsewhere on the roster with the No. 6 pick, Jones would head into the upcoming season with much more job security.

Aiming to return by training camp
Jones said Wednesday that the surgery on his right knee didn't uncover any additional damage and added that his goal is to be ready to play by training camp next year, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones underwent right knee surgery Nov. 22, and he explained Wednesday that no damage aside from the ACL was discovered during the procedure. That should help to some extent in his desire to be ready to participate by the start of training camp next July, though how he progresses through the rehabilitation process will ultimately determine his return timeline. The Giants gave Jones a four-year, $160 million contract extension this past March with $35.5 million guaranteed for 2024, so he figures to be their starting quarterback next season, though the ACL injury could feasibly cost him to miss some games at the start of the campaign if his recovery goes more slowly than he hopes.
Nov 27, 2023
Still has commitment from Giants
General manager Joe Schoen said Monday that Jones (knee) is still expected to be New York's starter, when healthy, but that won't stop the team from making moves at the quarterback position during the 2024 offseason, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones underwent successful surgery to address a right ACL tear Nov. 22 and is now facing an 8-to-10 month recovery timetable. That gives him a realistic chance to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 season, but that's contingent on him avoiding any serious setbacks. The Giants are sitting at a 4-8 record but have recorded back-to-back wins with UDFA Tommy DeVito under center, so any further victories down the stretch could result in the team's first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft not being high enough to realistically target a top QB prospect. Such a scenario would lend credence to Schoen's verbal commitments to Jones, even after a disasters 2023 campaign. Tommy DeVito will also remain under contract for New York next season, though veteran backup Tyrod Taylor (ribs) is scheduled for free agency.
Nov 22, 2023
Out 8-10 months after ACL surgery
Jones (knee) has an expected recovery timeline of 8-10 months after undergoing successful surgery on his torn ACL on Wednesday morning, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones suffered the injury Nov. 5 against the Raiders. The 2024 NFL season is expected to kick off just under 10 months from the date of Jones' surgery, so he has a realistic chance of being ready to play by then. Jones is the top quarterback option currently in the organization after signing a four-year, $160 million contract with the Giants prior to the 2023 season. New York could add competition for him in the 2024 NFL Draft, though, as Jones posted an ugly 2:6 TD:INT in six appearances this season after notching a 15:5 mark across 16 starts last season.
Nov 21, 2023
Surgery set for Wednesday
Jones is slated to undergo surgery on the torn ACL in his right knee Wednesday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his season ending Week 9, Jones sat out the previous three games due to a neck injury, limiting him to just six appearances during the 2023 campaign. Overall, he completed a respectable 68 percent of his passes, but he also posted a career-low 5.7 yards per attempt, notched a 2:6 TD:INT and fumbled four times (one lost). Now that his injured knee is stabilized and the procedure is set, Jones soon will begin his recovery while undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito continues to direct the Giants offense.
Nov 8, 2023
Shifts to IR
The Giants placed Jones (knee - ACL) on injured reserve Wednesday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is set to undergo season-ending knee surgery after suffering a torn right ACL in Sunday's loss to the Raiders, his first time retaking the field after a three-game absence. Across six appearances in 2023, Jones finished a 67.5 percent completion rate to go with a 5.7 YPA and 2:6 TD:INT. Despite Jones having signed a sizeable four-year extension during the offseason, with $35.5 million fully guaranteed for 2024, there are now legitimate questions about whether New York will decide to proceed forth with him as the team's franchise quarterback. In addition to his nine-month recovery timetable, Jones is undeniable coming off a statistically unimpressive 2023 showing, and the the Giants could now be primed to enter the 2024 NFL Draft with an early first-round pick. In a corresponding transaction to Jones' placement on IR, veteran Matt Barkley has been signed from the practice squad to serve as the backup to Tommy DeVito in Week 10.
Nov 6, 2023
ACL tear confirmed
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Jones will miss the rest of the season after an MRI on Monday confirmed that the quarterback suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Jones, who had returned to action Week 9 after missing the Giants' previous three games with a neck injury, will soon head in for surgery on his knee and finishes the 2023 season with a 67.5 percent completion rate for 5.7 yards per attempt and a 2:6 TD:INT to go with 40 carries for 206 yards and a touchdown over six starts. The 26-year-old signal-caller signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension in March and has a $35.5 million fully guaranteed salary for 2024 as he heads into what will be a roughly nine-month recovery from his ACL reconstruction surgery, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Despite the Giants' investment in Jones, the team could still look to draft another quarterback in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, though the organization's plans may not become clear until the offseason. As for what's left of what appears to be a non-contending 2023 season, all signs point to the Giants rolling with undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito as their starting quarterback beginning with the team's Week 1
Nov 5, 2023
Torn ACL feared
Jones is feared to have suffered a significant knee injury in Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Raiders, and an ACL tear is feared based on initial tests, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network report.
ANALYSIS
Jones will have an MRI on Monday to determine the exact nature of the knee injury, but if it's indeed a torn ACL, it would be a season-ending injury. With Tyrod Taylor (ribs) on injured reserve, the Giants will likely turn to either rookie Tommy DeVito or practice squad quarterback Matt Barkley for at least the next three games.
Nov 5, 2023
Ruled out of Sunday's game
Jones (knee) won't return to Sunday's contest in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Jones is dealing with a potentially serious right knee injury after it collapsed on him twice in a few plays spanning the first and second quarters. Prior to his exit, he completed four of nine passes for 25 yards and took two carries for nine yards. Tommy DeVito is the only other healthy quarterback on the active roster with Tyrod Taylor (rib cage) on injured reserve and Matt Barkley on the practice squad.
Nov 5, 2023
Goes to locker room
Jones (knee) went to the locker room during the second quarter of Sunday's game in Las Vegas, Tom Rock of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones' right knee collapsed on him twice in the span of a few plays across the first and second quarters. After paying a visit to the sideline medical tent, he was spotted walking slowly to the locker room, but he at least didn't need a cart or any assistance from the team's medical or training staffs to do so. While Jones is sidelined, Tommy DeVito will direct the Giants offense.
Nov 5, 2023
Hurts knee Sunday
Jones suffered a right knee injury during Sunday's game at Las Vegas, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
In a series of plays spanning the first and second quarters, Jones' right knee collapsed twice as he dropped back. He then needed assistance to get to the sideline, where he received medical attention. The nature and severity of the injury aren't known, but Tommy DeVito entered the contest in place of Jones.

Starting against Raiders
Jones (neck) has no injury designation and will start Sunday against the Raiders, Art Stapleton of The Record Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was medically cleared last Sunday but had already been ruled out against the Jets. After getting a full week of practice under his belt, Big Blue's starting quarterback will return for his first action since Week 5 against the Dolphins. With Tyrod Taylor (ribs) ruled out, Jones will be backed up by Tommy DeVito.
Nov 2, 2023
Another full practice
Jones (neck) practiced fully Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was medically cleared from his neck injury prior to this past Sunday's loss to the Jets, and coach Brian Daboll paved the way for the quarterback's upcoming return by stating he'd be a full practice participant Wednesday, per Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record. Daboll ruled out Tyrod Taylor (rib cage) on Thursday, leaving Jones and undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito as the potential options to be under center Sunday at Las Vegas. The Giants have yet to officially name a starting quarterback for Week 9, as the team likely wants to see how Jones reacts to consecutive days of on-field work. In any case, with back-to-back uncapped sessions behind him, Jones seems on pace to get the nod this weekend.
Nov 1, 2023
No limitations at practice
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that Jones (neck) will be a full participant at practice Wednesday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones gained clearance for contact prior to last Sunday's loss against the Jets, though he had already been ruled out for Week 8. It was the third consecutive missed game for Jones, but his return to full practice Wednesday seemingly puts him on track to return to the starting lineup this weekend in Las Vegas. Before confirming Jones as the team's Week 9 starter, Daboll and the Giants' medical staff will likely wait until Friday to make sure the signal-caller makes it through the week of practice without any setbacks. The timing of Jones' return is fortuitous for the Giants, with fill-in starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor (ribs) considered week-to-week after exiting the game against the Jets with the injury. If Jones is cleared to play Week 9, he could still be working with a depleted line and potentially without his top pass catcher; left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring) hasn't played since the season opener, right tackle Evan Neal (ankle) has missed the last two games, and tight end Darren Waller's (hamstrin

Cleared for contact
Jones (neck) has been medically cleared for contact, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was reportedly cleared ahead of Sunday's loss to the Jets, though he remained officially inactive for the contest. With Tyrod Taylor (ribs) having sustained a potentially serious injury Sunday, Jones could well be in line to return from his three-game absence Week 9 against the Raiders. The Giants have, however, been cautious with Jones' health, so it will be worth monitoring the extent of his participation in Wednesday's first official practice of the week.
Oct 29, 2023
Status remains up in air
Both Jones (neck) and Tyrod Taylor (ribs) are uncertain to be available for next Sunday's game at Las Vegas, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has yet to pass strength requirement tests to ensure the left side of his neck is OK to take contact, which so far has forced him to miss three consecutive contests after he sustained the injury Week 5. While there's a belief those symptoms are nearly behind him, there were alternating reports from Dianna Russini of The Athletic and Adam Schefter of ESPN on Saturday that Jones may be able to return Week 9 against the Raiders or Week 10 versus the Cowboys, respectively. Jones' timetable could be expedited after Taylor suffered a rib cage injury during Sunday's loss to the Jets that will leave him hospitalized overnight for further examination, with no prognosis evident. Undrafted rookie and practice-squad member Tommy DeVito is the only other quarterback on the Giants' roster, and he didn't fare well in relief of Taylor -- 2-for-7 passing for minus-1 yard and four carries for 12 yards and one TD -- so the team may be on the lookout for another signal-caller this week due the health concerns besetting Jon
Oct 28, 2023
Possible for Week 10?
Jones (neck) could make his return as soon as Week 10, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
This is the second report Saturday that suggested Jones could make a return from a multi-game absence due to a serious neck injury sooner rather than later. Head coach Brian Daboll will likely shed more insight next week after preferring not to answer questions regarding the status of Jones, not just for Week 8, but for the entire season, during Friday's meeting with reporters. In the immediate future, Tyrod Taylor will once against start for a Giants offense that has finally started to show some life after a dormant start to the 2023 campaign.
Oct 28, 2023
Positive news regarding injury
Jones (neck) could return this season and may even be available entering Week 9 against the Raiders, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This seems to be a direct contradiction to Friday's report, which highlighted head coach Brian Daboll hardly squashing the premise that Jones could miss the entire season with a severe neck injury. It would seem unlikely the fifth-year quarterback would suddenly be healthy enough to play Week 9 after still not being cleared for contact, but it's still encouraging that the Giants seem to anticipate he'll play before the end of the year.
Oct 27, 2023
Not a lock to play again this year?
Giants coach Brian Daboll was "non-committal" Friday when a reporter asked him if Jones (neck) will definitely play again this season, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Daboll previously told reporters Jones would be the starter once he gained medical clearance, and while that's presumably still the case it's not clear when it will actually happen. The QB has been taking scout-team reps since last week, with his availability for games based on gaining clearance for contact from the medical staff rather than his ability to participate in practice. This is Jones' second significant neck injury in three years, and there's reportedly a risk of suffering a severe spinal injury if he takes contact before the issue fully subsides. The Giants haven't ruled him out beyond Sunday's game against the Jets, but it certainly sounds like he's in danger of missing additional time. Tyrod Taylor will make another start this Sunday.

Tyrod Taylor will make his third consecutive start, as Jones remains limited in practice and still doesn't have clearance for contact. The QB's next chance to play will be Week 9 at Las Vegas (Sun., Nov. 5), with coach Brian Daboll having already clarified that Jones will be the starting QB once he's medically cleared to play.

Trending toward another missed game
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that the status quo remains in place for Jones (neck), who still hasn't been cleared for contact and will be a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will go down as a limited participant for the fifth practice in a row, and unless he takes a dramatic step forward in terms of his practice activity Friday, he'll most likely miss a third consecutive game this Sunday against the Jets. The Giants listed Jones as questionable ahead of their Week 7 game versus Washington, but he was ultimately inactive while practice-squad call-up Tommy DeVito served as the backup behind fill-in starter Tyrod Taylor. With Taylor taking all the first-team reps to begin Week 8 prep Wednesday, he appears to be headed for a third straight start while Jones gets more time to heal up from his neck injury.
Oct 25, 2023
No change in status
Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Jones (neck) will practice again but that he hasn't been cleared for contact and his workload will not increase, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones turned in a trio of limited practice last week before being ruled out for New York's win over the Commanders, and by all accounts his status hasn't yet tangibly changed. Daboll did confirm that Jones will be the Giants' starter when healthy, despite Tyrod Taylor having looked good in back-to-back starts. The longer it takes for Jones to be cleared for contact, though, the more difficult it becomes to picture him suiting up Sunday versus the Jets. Jones will likely be officially listed as 'limited' on Wednesday's injury report, and he will almost certainly need to practice in full Thursday or Friday for any chance at retaking the field Week 8.
Oct 22, 2023
Sitting out again Sunday
Jones (neck) is listed as inactive Sunday versus the Commanders, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
As of Friday, Jones still wasn't cleared for contact due to the neck injury that he sustained Week 5 at Miami, and he'll miss a second game in a row as a result of the issue. In Jones' stead, Tyrod Taylor again will direct the Giants offense Week 7, while the former will aim to get healthy for next Sunday's matchup with the Jets.
Oct 21, 2023
Trending in wrong direction
Jones (neck), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup versus the Commanders, is considered a longshot to play, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This seems to echo the report given by Mike Garafolo of NFL Network on Friday. That Jones hadn't been cleared for contact, a report affirmed by head coach Brian Daboll, essentially says all that fantasy managers need to know entering Sunday's matchup. As a result, Tyrod Taylor appears likely to make his second consecutive start for Big Blue after throwing for 200 yards on 36 pass attempts in the primetime loss to the Bills last week.
Oct 20, 2023
Listed as questionable
Jones (neck) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network suggest Jones may be on "the wrong side of questionable" after coach Brian Daboll revealed Friday morning that the quarterback hadn't been cleared for contact. It sounds like it'll come down to a medical/doctor's decision ahead of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff, rather than being a matter of pain management or something that's left up to Jones. If he's out for a second straight week, Tyrod Taylor will make another start after nearly leading the Giants to an upset of the Bills this past Sunday. it won't be surprising if an announcement comes before Sunday morning, though for now fantasy managers should treat Jones as a potential game-time decision.
Oct 20, 2023
Not cleared for contact
Coach Brian Daboll said Friday morning that Jones (neck) hasn't been cleared for contact, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Daboll ruled out three offensive linemen but didn't comment on an injury designation for Jones ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Commanders. The quarterback has been a limited practice participant this week and seems more likely than not to miss a second straight game.
Oct 19, 2023
Limited again at practice
Jones (neck) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was limited for a second straight day, with his workload including throws during the media-access portion of practice. The question seems to be whether he'll be cleared for contact in time for Sunday's game against Washington. If not, Tyrod Taylor will make another start.
Oct 18, 2023
Set for limited practice
Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Jones (neck) will be limited at practice, Matt Citak of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will throw Wednesday, but Daboll made clear that he isn't yet cleared for contact, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports, while also reiterating that he doesn't believe the quarterback's season is over. Though it's been reported that Jones' status is improving and he hopes to play Week 7, he now only has two more chances to be cleared for contact at practice prior to Sunday's game against the Commanders. If Jones ultimately can't go, Tyrod Taylor will need to draw another start under center.

Feels better, hopes to play Week 7
Jones noted following Sunday's loss to Buffalo that his injured neck feels "a lot better" and that he is trying to be ready to play Week 7 versus Washington, Darryl Slater of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones injured his neck in the fourth quarter of a Week 5 loss to Miami and wasn't able to practice at all last week. The QB told Slater that he's "doing everything [he] can" to be ready for Week 7, though it bears mentioning that both Jones and head coach Brian Daboll expressed optimism early last week that he'd be able to take the field versus Buffalo this past Sunday, which didn't come particularly close to happening. The level of Jones' participation in practice during the coming week should provide insight into his chances of playing Week 7 against Washington. If he's forced to miss that contest, Tyrod Taylor would again step in as the starting signal caller for a Giants team desperately in need of a win.
Oct 13, 2023
Ruled out for SNF
Jones (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Buffalo, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones left last week's loss to the Dolphins in the fourth quarter and then didn't practice at all this week. Tyrod Taylor will start against his former team Sunday night, taking snaps behind a banged-up offensive line that had six players listed on the injury report this week. Left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring) and starting center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder) have already been ruled out for Sunday, as has swing tackle Matt Peart (shoulder).
Oct 12, 2023
Missing another practice
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Jones (neck) won't practice Thursday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daboll isn't yet ruling Jones out from playing Sunday against the Bills, but with the fifth-year quarterback having now opened Week 6 prep with consecutive absences from practice, he appears to be trending toward sitting out this weekend. Tyrod Taylor will take reps with the first-team offense for the second day in a row and will be in line to start Sunday if Jones isn't available while he recovers from a sore neck.
Oct 11, 2023
Won't practice Wednesday
Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Jones (neck) won't particpate in practice, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Daboll called Jones "day-to-day" and said he's feeling sore due to a neck injury sustained in the Giants' loss to the Dolphins in Week 5. Per Dan, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site stated that New York won't make a decision on Jones' status for Sunday night's upcoming road matchup until later in the week. "He'll have a chance," Daboll said. "We'll see where he's at." Tyrod Taylor would stand to start versus Buffalo if Jones can't go, and Salomone reports that he will take first-team reps Wednesday.
Oct 10, 2023
Neck injury different from one in 2021
Jones told Kay Adams on the Up & Adams Show on Tuesday the neck injury that he sustained during Sunday's loss at Miami isn't the same as the one he dealt with during the 2021 season.
ANALYSIS
After coach Brian Daboll expressed optimism Monday regarding Jones' potential to play Week 6 in Buffalo, Jones noted, "That's certainly the goal," one day later. Back in 2021, Jones missed the final six games of the campaign due to an inability to gain medical clearance through that neck issue. This time around, he'll need to do the same, but first his activity level (or lack thereof) Wednesday could be revealing for where he stands in his recovery.
Oct 9, 2023
Optimism for Week 6
Coach Brian Daboll said Monday the Giants are optimistic that Jones (neck) will be available for Sunday's matchup against the Bills, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was forced out of New York's loss to the Dolphins in Week 5 in the fourth quarter, but it appears that he's avoided a serious injury. The Giants have veteran backup Tyrod Taylor available in case of emergency, but as long as Jones can practice in some capacity this week it looks like he could have a fair chance to avoid missing any time. Through five appearances this season, Jones has thrown just two touchdowns, both Week 2 versus the Cardinals, and six interceptions.
Oct 9, 2023
Avoids serious injury
The Giants are optimistic that Jones (neck) avoided a serious injury during Week 5's loss to the Dolphins, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones' status for Sunday's matchup against the Bills is reportedly still up-in-the-air, but the starting quarterback has at least reportedly avoided a long-term issue. He was forced out versus Miami due to a sack taken in the fourth quarter, and said after the contest that he was dealing with neck pain but otherwise felt alright. It's at least encouraging that Jones has avoided a serious injury, but if he were forced to miss any time, it would fall to Tyrod Taylor to line up under center Week 6 at Buffalo.
Oct 8, 2023
Tending to pain in his neck
Jones said after Sunday's 31-16 loss at Miami that he has some discomfort in his neck but otherwise feels OK, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones also noted that the Giants will know more about the injury Monday, with Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports relaying that the QB has an MRI on tap to determine its nature and extent. At the time of his exit in the fourth quarter Sunday, he had just 119 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions on 14-for-20 passing and 24 more yards on four carries. If Jones needs to miss any time, Tyrod Taylor is on hand to man quarterback for New York.
Oct 8, 2023
Dealing with new injury
Jones won't return to Sunday's game in Miami due to a neck issue, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones' injury came in the midst of getting sacked for the sixth time among 12 quarterback hits Sunday. At the point of his departure in the fourth quarter, he had completed 14 of 20 passes for 119 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing four times for 24 yards. Tyrod Taylor subbed in for Jones and will lead the Giants offense for as long as the latter is sidelined.
Oct 8, 2023
Departs Sunday's game early
Jones exited Sunday's game at Miami in the fourth quarter due to an undisclosed injury, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After getting sacked for the sixth time Sunday, Jones appeared woozy getting to his feet before going to the sideline tent and eventually the locker room. As long as Jones is sidelined, Tyrod Taylor will direct the Giants offense.
Oct 2, 2023
Another dud on MNF
Jones completed 27 of 34 passes for 203 yards and rushed 10 times for 66 yards in Monday's 24-3 loss to the Seahawks. He was intercepted twice and fumbled twice, losing one.
ANALYSIS
Jones completed 14 of 17 first-half passes, but he mustered a modest 121 passing yards and lost a fumble as the Giants took a 14-3 deficit into the locker room and remained the only team without a first-half touchdown this season. Things didn't get any better after halftime, as Jones was picked off twice, including a pick-six from Seattle's three-yard line. In fairness to Jones, the offensive line also didn't give him much time, as he was sacked 10 times. Jones fell to 1-12 in prime time games in his career, including 0-7 on MNF, but he'll have the benefit of a regular 1 p.m. Sunday kickoff in Miami as he looks to bounce back in Week 5.
Sep 22, 2023
Significant downturn in Week 3 loss
Jones completed 22 of 32 passes for 137 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and added two rushes for five yards in the Giants' 30-12 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Jones was only sacked twice and picked off once, but he was hit an additional four times unofficially and also limited to a microscopic 4.3 yards per attempt. The veteran signal-caller spread the ball around to seven different players, but no Giants pass catcher managed to total more than 32 receiving yards. Jones has now put together a worrisome body of work in essentially 10 of his first 12 quarters of the season, particularly concerning when factoring in the financial commitment made to him by the franchise this offseason. Jones and his teammates will be trying to stave off a 1-3 start when they tangle with the Seahawks in a Week 4 home matchup on Monday night, Oct. 2.
Sep 17, 2023
Produces three TDs in comeback win
Jones completed 26 of 37 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 31-28 win over the Cardinals. He added 59 rushing yards and another TD on nine carries.
ANALYSIS
With the Giants down 20-0 at halftime, Jones led a remarkable second-half comeback that he sparked with a 14-yard TD scamper early in the third quarter. It was a much-needed rebound after New York's no-show against Dallas in its opener, but falling behind early to an Arizona team generally regarded as one of the worst in the NFL coming into 2023 is still a worrying sign. Things don't get any easier for Jones and the Giants in Week 3, as they'll head to San Francisco for a Thursday night tilt against the undefeated 49ers.
Sep 11, 2023
Benched in blowout loss
Jones completed 15 of 28 pass attempts for 104 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 43 yards on 13 attempts in Sunday's 40-0 loss to Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Jones picked the wrong time to have his worst performance as a pro, as it came in the home opener following a wealthy contract extension this past offseason. There isn't much of a silver lining to note either, other than he managed to recover his two fumbles to avoid a four-turnover day. Jones and his fantasy managers will have to simply forget about this dud and move on. That said, anyone who started him this week should at least take advantage of the upcoming soft matchup against Arizona next Sunday.
Sep 4, 2023
Frees up cap space
Jones agreed Monday to restructure his contract with the Giants, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
New York is converting $8.4 million of Jones' base salary for the 2023 season into a signing bonus, a move that creates $6.3 million in cap space for the team. The restructure could signal that the Giants intend to make another signing or trade prior to Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cowboys. As things currently stand, Jones is heading into the first season of his four-year, $160 million contract with a wide receiver corps housing all of Isaiah Hodgins, Darius Slayton, Parris Campbell, Wan'Dale Robinson (knee), Sterling Shepard and Jalin Hyatt, though his go-to offensive playmakers will likely be Darren Waller and Saquon Barkley.
Aug 18, 2023
Surgical in Friday's preseason win
Jones completed eight of nine passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason victory over the Panthers. He added six rushing yards on his only carry.
ANALYSIS
The fifth-year quarterback was only on the field for one possession, but Jones made the most of it, leading a 75-drive that culminated with a four-yard TD pass to tight end Daniel Bellinger. After signing a four-year, $160 million contract to remain with the Giants this offseason, the team is counting on Jones to take another step forward, but even in a career-best 2022 campaign, his YPA was still a meager 6.8 with only 15 passing TDs.
Aug 18, 2023
Slated to start Friday
Jones is in line to start Friday's preseason game against the Panthers, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out the Giants' exhibition opener, Jones and most of the team's starters will be out there Friday. It's unclear how much run Jones can expect, but he may be afforded at least a few possessions with running back Saquon Barkley, tight end Darren Waller and company.
Aug 11, 2023
Not expected to play Friday night
Jones isn't expected to play in Friday night's preseason opener against the Lions, The Athletic's Dan Duggan reports.
ANALYSIS
Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito will split the quarterback reps in Friday's exhibition.

Lands four-year deal with Giants
Jones and the Giants have agreed to terms on a four-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Pelissero, Jones' deal -- which came down to the wire ahead of the league deadline to assign franchise tags -- is reportedly a four-year, $160 million contract, with $35 million in incentives. Now that the team has come to terms with Jones, the Giants are in line to use their tag on running back Saquon Barkley.
Mar 5, 2023
Set to be tagged if no deal is made
The Giants plan to franchise tag Jones if an extension isn't reached by Tuesday's deadline, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is reportedly seeking an extension worth over $40 million per year, and it appears the Giants have been reluctant to pony up that type of compensation. However, per Dan Graziano of ESPN.com, there's still optimism that the two sides can reach a deal before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline. New York is also dealing with the impending free agency of Saquon Barkley, and per Graziano, the team would rather sign Jones to an extension and tag Barkley than the other way around. Jones had a career-high 67 percent completion percentage in 2022 and finished tied with Geno Smith for sixth in QBR (60.8).
Jan 21, 2023
Disappointing end to season
Jones completed 15 of 27 passes for 135 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Giants' 38-7 divisional-round loss to the Eagles on Saturday night. He also rushed six times for 24 yards and committed a fumble recovered by New York.
ANALYSIS
Jones' final numbers underscore how difficult a night it was for him against the Eagles' stalwart defense, which sacked him five times and hit him an additional three times. Jones averaged only five yards per attempt with Philadelphia successfully taking away any possibilities of downfield success, making it a very underwhelming finish to an otherwise highly successful season for Jones. The fifth-year pro thrived in head coach Brian Daboll's system, throwing for 3,205 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for a career-high 708 yards and seven touchdowns on 120 attempts. An impeding free agent at the start of the new league year, Jones may have done enough to earn a new contract in the Big Apple.
Jan 15, 2023
Makes history in wild-card win
Jones completed 24 of 35 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns while adding 78 rushing yards on 17 carries in Sunday's 31-24 wild-card win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
In leading the Giants to an upset win and the franchise's first playoff victory in 11 years, Jones became the first QB in NFL postseason history to throw for 300 yards and multiple TDs while rushing for 70 or more yards. His first touchdown, a 14-yard strike to Isaiah Hodgins late in the first quarter, gave New York its first lead of the game, while Jones' nine-yard toss to Daniel Bellinger early in the third kept the Giants ahead of the Vikes in the back-and-forth contest. The quarterback will now gear up for a meeting with the Eagles in the divisional round, a defense he struggled against the only time he faced them in the regular season.
Jan 8, 2023
Active, but unlikely to play
Jones is active for Sunday's game against the Eagles but is considered unlikely to play, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ranaan notes that Jones went out for an early warmup Sunday, but Jones looks like he'll be available only in an emergency with multiple reports having suggested that practice-squad call-up Davis Webb will draw the start at quarterback, while Tyrod Taylor likely serves as his backup. The Giants are locked into as the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoff regardless of the outcomes of this weekend's action, so head coach Brian Daboll's top objective Sunday is to come out of the game in Philadelphia with key players in optimal health. To that end, the Giants have made star running back Saquon Barkley, starting left tackle Andrew Thomas and standout defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence healthy inactives for the contest.
Jan 7, 2023
Not expected to start Sunday
Davis Webb, who has been elevated from the Giants' practice squad ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles, is expected to start the contest rather than Jones, according to Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record and Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post.
ANALYSIS
Look for added context regarding the situation to arrive prior to Sunday's 4:25 ET contest, but with the Giants locked into the No. 6 playoff seed in the NFC, it appears as though the team is inclined to play it safe with Jones, and possibly other key players, with the team's postseason push in mind.
Jan 1, 2023
Totals four touchdowns in big win
Jones completed 19 of 24 passes for 177 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions and added 11 rushes for 91 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's Week 17 victory against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Jones came up big in a win that clinched the Giants' first playoff berth since 2016, as the quarterback not only posted an efficient performance through the air but also led the team with 91 yards on the ground. He tossed a six-yard touchdown pass to Richie James in the second quarter, then hit Isaiah Hodgins for another six-yard score later in the same period. Jones' final two TDs came on the ground, as he put New York up by 28 points with an 18-yard rush in the third quarter and ran in another score from 10 yards out in the fourth. Jones has already set career-high totals with 3,205 passing yards and 708 rushing yards on the campaign, with the latter mark ranking fifth among NFL quarterbacks this season. It's unclear how much Jones will play Week 18 against the Eagles with New York officially in the postseason and having nothing to gain with a victory in the contest.
Dec 24, 2022
Big yardage in loss to Vikes
Jones completed 30 of 42 passes for 334 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Saturday's 27-24 loss to Minnesota. He added 34 rushing yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
The 30 completions were a season high for Jones and his yardage total was second only to his 341-yard performance in Week 11 against Detroit, but the fourth-year quarterback also displayed his old issues with ball security, coughing up a fumble that was luckily recovered by right tackle Evan Neal. Jones has failed to toss multiple TD passes in six straight games, managing a 5:3 TD:INT over that stretch, but he may not be called on to do too much in Week 17 against the Colts.
Dec 19, 2022
Uninspiring fantasy performance
Jones completed 21 of 32 pass attempts for 160 yards, no touchdowns and no turnovers Sunday. He added 35 rushing yards on 10 carries in a 20-12 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Jones produced the stereotypical game manager stat line Sunday, doing just enough to move the chains and protect the ball en route to victory. However, these types of performances do not move the needle in fantasy. It was the fourth time this season that the 25-year-old failed to record a passing or rushing touchdown. On the bright side, Jones gets to face one of the league's worst pass defenses in Minnesota on Saturday.
Dec 11, 2022
Rushing touchdown in loss
Jones completed 18 of 27 passes for 169 yards with one touchdown ad no interceptions while rushing four times for 26 yards and another score in the Giants' 48-22 loss to the Eagles on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Jones' numbers weren't that much different than those he's typically put up during the Giants' seven wins this season, but he never seemed to have a realistic chance of helping his side of the ball keep up with the Eagles' prolific attack. The veteran signal-caller's two touchdowns salvaged his day from fantasy perspective, yet his afternoon was a lot messier than his numbers imply, considering he took four sacks and was hit eight additional times overall. Jones was replaced by Tyrod Taylor late in the blowout defeat, but he figures to be back under center for a critical Week 15 road rematch against the Commanders next Sunday night.
Dec 4, 2022
271 total yards in tie
Jones completed 25 of 31 passes for 200 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Giants' 20-20 tie with the Commanders on Sunday. He also rushed 12 times for 71 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Jones was able to connect with Darius Slayton for a 55-yard strike, but he otherwise primarily worked the short-to-mid-range passing windows throughout the afternoon, leading to a yardage total that is especially modest when considering the game went a full five quarters. Jones hit Isaiah Hodgins from six yards out for his one touchdown early in the third quarter, and although the Giants were forced to punt on six consecutive possessions, including the first two of overtime, thereafter, he did notch a pair of key completions to Richie James (14 yards) and Daniel Bellinger (three yards) to put Graham Gano in position to attempt a would-be game-winning 58-yard field goal, which he missed. Jones next faces the daunting Eagles secondary in a Week 14 home matchup.
Nov 30, 2022
Done with knee brace?
Jones didn't wear a knee/leg brace at Wednesday's practice, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has worn the brace at practice and during games since suffering a lower-body injury Week 4 against the Bears. He's averaged 6.9 carries for 36.9 yards in seven subsequent games, which is more than he averaged in any of his first three NFL seasons but not quite up to his pace from Weeks 1-4 (7.8 attempts for 48.3 yards). After posting his two best totals for passing yardage in the past two games, both losses, Jones could use his feet more often in Sunday's home game against the Commanders -- a key matchup for the NFC wild-card picture.
Nov 24, 2022
Held in check by Dallas
Jones completed 21 of 35 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 28-20 loss to the Cowboys. He added 14 rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
The Giants were able to take a lead into halftime thanks to their defense, but Dallas took control in the third quarter and Jones' only TD pass of the afternoon came with a little over a minute left in the fourth with New York down by 15. The quarterback once again played a turnover-free game, fumbling once but recovering it himself, but the Cowboys' pass rush also gave him few opportunities to sustain drives. Jones will look for better numbers and a better result in Week 13 against the Commanders.
Nov 20, 2022
Picked off twice in upset loss
Jones completed 27 of 44 pass attempts for 341 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions while rushing for 50 yards and another score on seven carries in Sunday's 31-18 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
The Lions were keyed in on stopping Saquon Barkley (15 carries for 22 yards), which put added pressure on Jones to lead the offense back from being down big. The 25-year-old failed his team in that regard, but it also resulted in a season high in passing yards (341) to go along with his fourth rushing score of the year. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect this type of passing volume from Jones moving forward, especially on a short week against Dallas' elite pass rush on Thanksgiving in Week 12.
Nov 13, 2022
Throws two TDs against Texans
Jones completed 13 of 17 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 24-16 win over the Texans. He added five rushing attempts for 24 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones led a 10-play, 68-yard touchdown drive on New York's first possession, capping it with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Lawrence Cager. The defenses took over for the rest of the first half, as New York took a 7-3 lead into the locker room. On the first possession after halftime, Jones got the Giants some breathing room with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Darius Slayton. He helped New York seal the win with a clutch scramble up the middle to pick up 3rd-and-10 and extend a clock-killing drive that chewed up 5:09 of the fourth quarter. It hasn't always been pretty, but Jones has helped guide the Giants to a 7-2 record heading into another winnable home game in Week 11 against the defensively challenged Lions.
Oct 30, 2022
Shut down by Seahawks
Jones completed 17 of 31 passes for 176 yards and added 20 rushing yards on six carries in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
The Giants' offense couldn't get much going in Seattle, and while Jones has had plenty of lackluster passing performances this season, this time he wasn't able to compensate with his legs. He'll head into a Week 9 bye having failed to reach 200 passing yards in six of eight games so far, with a season high of just 217 yards, as Saquon Barkley remains the clear focal point of the New York attack.
Oct 23, 2022
Rushes for over 100 in Week 7 win
Jones completed 19 of 30 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown while rushing 11 times for 107 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-17 win over Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Jones threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Darius Slayton on the opening drive. He then led a pair of field-goal drives in the second quarter before giving the Giants a 20-17 lead by scoring a one-yard rushing touchdown with 5:31 remaining in the fourth. New York tacked on a field goal late, then survived a penalty-filled final possession on defense to improve to 6-1. In addition to scoring his third rushing touchdown of the season, Jones topped 100 yards on the ground for the first time in his NFL career. Jones' dual-threat ability will make him an intriguing Week 8 fantasy option against a subpar Seahawks defense.
Oct 16, 2022
Few mistakes in win
Jones completed 19 of 27 passes for 173 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Jones threw multiple touchdowns for the first time since Week 1, finding the end zone from five and eight yards away. He remained a game manager but did so effectively by distributing the ball accurately and largely avoiding miscues -- though he did lose an inconsequential fumble just before halftime. Jones will have capped volume until the Giants are forced to take to the air more, limiting his fantasy intrigue.

Works efficiently in win
Jones completed 21 of 27 pass attempts for 217 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 27-22 win over the Packers. He added 10 rushes for 37 yards.
ANALYSIS
After attempting over 30 passes in each of his last two games, Jones returned to more limited volume on Sunday. However, he worked fairly efficiently, tallying eight yards per pass attempt while primarily working in short areas of the field. Despite spending much of the week on the injury report due to an ankle injury, Jones also chipped in a few big plays on the ground, highlighted by a 14-yard scamper late in the third quarter. Jones hasn't been particularly friendly for fantasy purposes, but he has not turned the ball over in three of five games on the season.

Off injury report
Jones (ankle) is not listed on Friday's injury report, clearing him for Sunday's game against the Packers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones' ankle injury won't prevent him from suiting up Sunday in London, but it could hinder his mobility and thus also limit his fantasy upside. Perhaps more significantly, Green Bay's secondary and defensive line are a difficult matchup, and Jones will be working without top wideouts Kadarius Toney (hamstring), Wan'Dale Robinson (knee) and Kenny Golladay (knee). With Tyrod Taylor (concussion) also ruled out, Davis Webb is expected to serve as Jones' top backup.

Limited again, but progressing
Jones (ankle) was listed as a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been limited in the Giants' first two Week 5 practices while he manages a sprained left ankle, but he looks to be making steady progress in his recovery. According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com, head coach Brian Daboll said he thought Jones "did well" with the reps he received Wednesday, prompting the Giants to increase his workload in Thursday's practice. The added reps weren't enough for Jones to bump up to full activity, but he'll look to do just that in the team's final practice of the week Friday. The Giants are scheduled to fly to London overnight and hold their final session of the week overseas in advance of Sunday's game against the Packers.
Oct 5, 2022
Logs limited practice Wednesday
Jones (ankle) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was sidelined for a spell spanning the third and fourth quarters of the Giants' Week 4 win against the Bears, and he may not have returned at all if backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor hadn't suffered a concussion. In the end, Jones gutted out a sprained left ankle down the stretch, and there's a belief the team won't add another QB to the roster this week, according to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, meaning he seems to be trending in the right direction. If Taylor can't make it through the protocol for head injuries in time for Sunday's game versus the Packers in London, it'll likely be Jones or practice-squad member Davis Webb under center for New York in Week 5.
Oct 3, 2022
Optimism for Week 5
The Giants are optimistic that Jones (ankle) will be able to suit up Week 5 versus the Packers in London, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is scheduled to undergo more tests on the left ankle sprain that briefly knocked him out of Sunday's 20-12 win over the Bears, but he looks like he'll have a fair shot at being available in London. What remains to be seen is whether New York will have the option of deploying as run-heavy of a playbook for Jones as was featured Week 4, when the quarterback had six carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns prior to his departure. With backup Tyrod Taylor (concussion) also nursing an injury, the team may need to add another quarterback to the roster this week even if Jones is cleared to play.
Oct 2, 2022
Delivers on ground
Jones completed eight of 13 passes for 71 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 20-12 win over the Bears. He rushed the ball six times for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
ANALYSIS
Jones briefly exited the game with an injured ankle in the third quarter, but he returned after only two possessions early in the fourth quarter. Even prior to the injury, the Giants clearly planned to run their offense through Saquon Barkley and the ground game, as they took to the air only 16 times combined between Jones and Tyrod Taylor. Instead, Jones got things done on the ground, racking up rushing touchdowns of 21 and eight yards. Jones has still yet to reach 200 passing yards in a game this season and the Giants aren't eager to make him the focal point of their offense. Finally, it worth be watching Jones' status moving forward, as he left open the possibility that he suffered a high ankle sprain, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
Oct 2, 2022
Back in Sunday's game
Jones (ankle) returned to Sunday's contest versus the Bears, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
After taking a sack for an 11-yard loss late in the third quarter, Jones stayed in the game for two more plays before Graham Gano was successful on a field-goal attempt. While Jones had his left ankle taped up, Tyrod Taylor took over the Giants offense, but he threw a pick on his first possession and then took a helmet-to-helmet hit on the next drive that required concussion testing. Jones didn't take snaps under center right away, instead yielding them to Saquon Barkley out of the wild cat. However, Jones did so on the next possession.
Oct 2, 2022
Hurts left ankle Sunday
Jones injured his ankle during Sunday's game against the Bears, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones had a noticeable limp after taking a sack late in the third quarter but stayed in the game for two more plays before a successful Graham Gano field goal. Team trainers taped up Jones' left ankle on the sideline, per Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record, but Tyrod Taylor handled all the QB reps for the Giants on their next possession before throwing a pick. It remains to be seen if Jones will be able to return to the field.
Sep 27, 2022
Consistently pressured by Cowboys
Jones completed 20 of 37 passes for 196 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Monday's 23-16 loss to the Cowboys. He added 79 yards on the ground.
ANALYSIS
Jones' final stat line was ugly, as he failed to reach the end zone and averaged only 5.3 yards per attempt. However, he was let down at least in part by his offensive line as he was sacked five times and consistently pressured. Both Kenny Golladay and Sterling Shepard (knee) also had drops, so there was potential for Jones' line to be better. In addition, Jones showcased some playmaking ability by tallying 79 rushing yards --highlighted by scrambles of 17 and 14 yards. Despite some of the positives, Jones has failed to surpass 200 passing yards in any game and has only three total touchdowns across three matchups this season.
Sep 18, 2022
Throws touchdown in win
Jones completed 22 of 34 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 19-16 win over the Panthers. He also rushed 10 times for 21 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones sealed New York's victory by rushing for a first down late, enabling the team to subsequently run down the clock. Although he also threw a 16-yard touchdown to Daniel Bellinger and avoided any turnovers, it was overall a fairly pedestrian performance from Jones. With the Giants winning their first two games, however, Jones and company should be confident heading into Week 3's Monday night matchup versus the rival Cowboys.
Sep 11, 2022
Erratic performance in win
Jones completed 17 of 21 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns with one interception and added 25 rushing yards on six carries in Sunday's 21-20 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old quarterback was mostly efficient when he had time to throw, but Jones was sacked five times and his one INT was nearly a back-breaker as he got picked off in the end zone early in the fourth quarter with the Giants down 20-13. After getting chewed out by new head coach Brian Daboll on the sideline, Jones rallied and led his team to a game-winning TD and two-point conversion inside the final two minutes. The jury is still out on whether Daboll can help Jones turn his career around, but he'll take some momentum and confidence into a Week 2 tilt against the Panthers.
Aug 21, 2022
Looks solid Sunday
Jones completed 14 of 16 passes for 116 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 25-22 preseason win over the Bengals. He added five yards on one rushing attempt in three drives of action.
ANALYSIS
Jones completed his first six passes but capped New York's second drive with an interception. In fairness to Jones, his interception first bounced off the hands of rookie tight end Daniel Bellinger and then appeared to hit the ground, but it was ruled that Bengals safety Daxton Hill possessed the ball. The 25-year-old quarterback bounced back nicely on his third and final possession of the game, leading a touchdown drive capped by a two-yard Jashaun Corbin run. Despite the presence of veteran alternative Tyrod Taylor on the roster, Jones is locked in as the Giants' starting quarterback while healthy.
Aug 21, 2022
In line to play Sunday
Jones and the bulk of the Giants' healthy first-team offense participated in warmups ahead of Sunday's preseason game against the Bengals, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While it looks like running back Saquon Barkley may not appear in the contest, it seems as though Jones is in line to see some action versus Cincinnati. With that in mind, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record indicates that Jones could make an abbreviated appearance in the contest before giving way to Tyrod Taylor.
Aug 21, 2022
Could be held out Sunday
The Giants' coaching staff is rethinking plans to have starters such as Jones and Saquon Barkley play in Sunday's preseason contest against Cincinnati, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones, Barkley and most other healthy starters were originally expected to play in the second preseason contest (as they did in the first), but the team's offensive line is so banged up that head coach Brian Daboll may instead elect to hold key starters out. Leonard notes that the Giants are down to their sixth-string center for the game against the Bengals, and the staff no doubt values keeping starters healthy over allowing them to play a few series in an exhibition contest.
Aug 19, 2022
Reveals he had offseason procedure
Jones said he had a non-football-related neck procedure this past offseason, ESPN.com Jordan Raanan reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones said it was "completely unrelated" to the neck injury that kept him out for the final six games last year. He didn't need surgery for that issue but apparently had a procedure to address something else near his neck. Jones was cleared for contact at least a month and a half before training camp and already made an appearance this preseason, completing six of 10 passes for 69 yards against the Patriots last week. Coach Brian Daboll said Jones and other starters will get more playing time in the second preseason game this Sunday against Cincinnati.
Aug 15, 2022
Likely for action vs. Bengals
Coach Brian Daboll said Monday he intends for the Giants' first-team offense and Jones to play in Sunday's preseason contest against the Bengals, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Daboll said he hasn't yet determined how many series Jones and the first-team offense will handle in New York's second preseason contest. Jones handled the first two offensive drives during the preseason opener against New England, so he and the starting unit could be in line for a similar amount of work August 21 when the Giants host the Bengals.
Aug 11, 2022
Plays two drives against Patriots
Jones completed six of 10 passes for 69 yards and rushed once for six yards in Thursday's 23-21 preseason win over the Patriots. He didn't have a touchdown or turnover while playing the first two series.
ANALYSIS
Jones got the offense down to New England's seven-yard line on the opening drive, but the Giants ended up settling for a field goal before punting on the second possession. This was an unremarkable start to the preseason for Jones under new coach Brian Daboll, but he's still locked in as the Giants' starting quarterback. Jones will likely see a similar workload in the second preseason game at home against the Bengals on Aug. 21.
Aug 11, 2022
In line to see action Thursday
Jones is slated to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots, Michael Giardi of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It remains to be seen how long Jones will be in the game, but Dan Duggan of The Athletic speculates that the Giants' healthy starters "could play as little as a series or as much as a quarter," depending on how they fare early on in the contest. Once Jones exits the game, Tyrod Taylor and Davis Webb are next in line for the team's QB reps.
Aug 9, 2022
Has rough day in camp
Jones went 5-for-15 with a pair of interceptions during scrimmage in training camp Monday, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
The blame isn't all on Jones' shoulders -- New York pass catchers had multiple drops in practice and the entire offense is learning a new system -- but it's nonetheless not promising that Jones hasn't looked good thus far in camp. Tyrod Taylor even got a rep with the first-team offense Monday, though it's unlikely that anyone but Jones will be under center when the season starts. New head coach Brian Daboll is bringing a new offense that offers reason to be optimistic, but Jones may have to prove that he can be the answer at quarterback to keep his job the entire season.
Aug 2, 2022
Improving in practice
Jones had his best day of training camp Tuesday, according to Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record and Dan Duggan of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Stapleton reports that Jones completed 16 of 20 passes on a day where the situational focus was third-and-longs, though the QB did also throw two interceptions to CB Adoree' Jackson. The situation in New York is a bit different this year, with the quarterback seemingly facing a make-or-break season while new head coach Brian Daboll won't necessarily be tied to Jones. There's also some hope for the rest of the offense to rebound, with offseason additions including first-round pick Evan Neal at right tackle and second-round pick Wan'Dale Robinson at wide receiver. Healthier years from RB Saquon Barkley and WRs Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney could also go a long way toward giving Jones a decent supporting case for the first time in his career.
Jun 7, 2022
Cleared for contact
Giants head coach Brain Daboll said Tuesday that Jones (neck) has been cleared for contact, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones missed the final six games of the 2021 campaign due to a neck strain, but he appears to have moved past the issue with Daboll saying the quarterback would suit up if the Giants had a game Tuesday. Regardless, health isn't the only concern for Jones, who has a 22:17 TD:INT the past two seasons after throwing for 3,027 yards and 24 touchdowns across 13 appearances as a rookie.
Apr 28, 2022
Option won't be picked up
The Giants don't intend to pick up the fifth-year option on Jones' contract, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York, exercising Jones' option would have committed the Giants to paying him $22.3 million in 2023. That said, if the 2019 first-rounder plays well this coming season, the team will have the option to pursue an extension with Jones or place the franchise tag on him next year. The QB, who turns 25 next month, remains atop the team's depth chart, now backed up by veteran signal-caller Tyrod Taylor.

Feeling better after neck injury
Jones (neck) said he's "feeling good" and "ready to go" as the Giants begin their offseason program this week, Michael Eisen of Giants.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old struggled to recover from a neck strain at the end of last season, ultimately missing the final six games. Even so, he's been running and throwing since the second week of January, and It sounds like he's not expecting any more trouble from the injury going forward. Jones can now turn his focus to learning a new offense from former Bills OC Brian Daboll, who chose former Chiefs passing game coordinator Mike Kafka to be the offensive coordinator in New York. It's unclear if the Giants intend to exercise the fifth-year option on Jones' contract before the May 2 deadline.
Jan 26, 2022
Getting another shot in NY
Team president John Mara said the Giants haven't given up on Jones, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports. "We've done everything possible to screw this kid up since he's been here," Mara said Wednesday. "we certainly have not given up on Daniel Jones."
ANALYSIS
That said, Jones may be looking at a make-or-break season in Year 4, even if the Giants do end up exercising his fifth-year option before the May 2 deadline this spring. He'll have to adjust to a new coaching staff, again, but it does at least seem Jones will be healthy for the start of the offseason program, considering he's been lifting, running and throwing since at least Jan. 10 (after missing the end of the season wit ha neck injury). Also working in his favor is a talented group of skill-position players, though all of the key guys are coming off injury-plagued seasons, and the offensive line remains a question. Mara ruled out the possibility fo trading for Deshaun Watson and said the Giants need to give Jones more help before making an "intelligent evaluation" on his future, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Jan 10, 2022
No limitations in workouts
Jones (neck) said Monday that he doesn't have any limitations when lifting, running and throwing, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones missed the final six games of the regular season due to his neck injury but doesn't expect the issue to be a long-term concern. The 24-year-old won't face contact until at least August, and he said Monday that he expects to be fully cleared by this summer. Across his 11 appearances in 2021, Jones completed 232 of 361 passes for 2,428 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions while rushing 62 times for 298 yards and two touchdowns.
Dec 22, 2021
No long-term worries with neck
Jones (neck) said Wednesday that he doesn't have any long-term concerns with his injury, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones also said he's frustrated with being shut down for the season, though he'll avoid surgery and is expected to recover fine with a few weeks of rest. It'll be an interesting offseason with the Giants forced to make a decision this upcoming spring on exercising the fifth-year option (for 2023) on Jones' rookie contract. Based on the QB's recent comments, his season-ending neck injury shouldn't be much of a factor there.
Dec 20, 2021
Set to avoid surgery
Giants head coach Joe Judge confirmed that Jones (neck) won't require surgery to address the neck strain that resulted in the quarterback being placed on injured reserve Monday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge noted that the Giants made the decision to shut Jones down for the remaining three games of the season as a matter of precaution after doctors didn't see enough progress in the 24-year-old's recovery over the past couple weeks to clear him for taking contact. That being said, Jones is expected to show more improvement while resting over the next several weeks, so he looks like he should be ready to go for OTAs in the spring. Around the same time, the Giants will have to decide whether to exercise Jones' fifth-year option for 2023. If New York chooses to forgo exercising the option, Jones would likely head into 2022 as a lame-duck starter, if the Giants don't trade him elsewhere or bring in legitimate competition for the top job.
Dec 20, 2021
Goes on IR
The Giants placed Jones (neck) on injured reserve Monday, ending his season.
ANALYSIS
Minutes after Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reported that Jones would be shut down for the season due to his strained neck, the Giants made the transaction official. Mike Glennon had started the past two games in place of Jones, but his lackluster production in both contests could prompt the Giants to give Jake Fromm a look in the starting quarterback role Week 16 in Philadelphia, or at some point before the season ends. Jones concludes his third NFL campaign with a 64.3 percent completion rate, 6.7 YPA and 10:7 TD:INT to go with 62 carries for 298 yards and two touchdowns. The Giants are confident that Jones' injury isn't a long-term concern, and while he should be back to full health for OTAs and open the spring atop the depth chart, the organization could bring in competition for the starting job before training camp.
Dec 20, 2021
Likely shut down for season
The Giants plan to shut Jones down for the remainder of the season, though the organization is optimistic that his strained neck isn't a long-term concern, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Since sustaining the injury Week 12 against the Eagles, Jones has been able to practice on a limited basis, but he hasn't been available to play in either of the Giants' past two games since doctors haven't cleared him to take contact. The Giants apparently don't expect Jones to get a clean bill of health at any point during the final three weeks of the season, so he'll likely head to injured reserve in the coming days as New York proceeds with Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm as its quarterbacks the rest of the way. The third-year signal-caller demonstrated progress in the Giants' first five games of the campaign by committing just two turnovers (one interception and one lost fumble), but he regressed over his final seven games before suffering the season-ending injury. He'll wrap up the season with a 64.3 percent completion rate for 6.7 yards per attempt and 10:7 TD:INT over 11 games, numbers roughly in line with what he posted in 2020. The Giants will have to decide in the spring whether to exercise his fifth-y
Dec 17, 2021
Officially ruled out
Jones (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Dallas, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones continues to log limited practices but still doesn't have medical clearance to play in a game or take contact. Mike Glennon will make another start for the Giants this Sunday, with Jones hoping to return for Week 16 against the Eagles.
Dec 16, 2021
Still limited in practice
Jones (neck) remained a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has now been listed as a limited participant on each of his team's eight practice reports since he was diagnosed with a strained neck coming out of a Week 12 win over the Eagles. As his lack of advancement to full activity would suggest, Jones remains in a holding pattern in his recovery from the injury, with head coach Joe Judge telling Sean Farrell of The Bergen Record on Thursday that there's "no change" in the quarterback's status at this point. Unless he gains clearance from doctors Friday to resume taking contact, Jones will likely miss his third consecutive game Sunday against Dallas, paving the way for Mike Glennon to make another start.
Dec 15, 2021
Limited on estimated report
Jones (neck) was listed as limited on Wednesday's practice estimate, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants merely held a walkthrough to kick off Week 15 prep, but Jones would have put in a similar session to what he did the previous two weeks, when he eventually was ruled out due to a strained neck. He recently met with a specialist for a second time, but it appears he's still awaiting clearance to take contact. Until he does so, Jones won't be a candidate to play, allowing Mike Glennon to continue to earn spot starts.
Dec 12, 2021
Visit with specialist on tap Monday
Jones is slated to visit with a specialist and also will undergo another scan on his neck Monday, coach Joe Judge told Shannon Spake on the Fox broadcast of Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Jones traveled to L.A. early last week to meet with a specialist regarding his strained neck, but he has yet to be cleared for contact, as evidenced by the Giants listing him as limited in practice Wednesday through Friday and ultimately ruling him out for a second consecutive contest. Mike Glennon has filled in for Jones during the latter's absence, but the offense has been futile, with just 22 points through nearly eight quarters of action. Monday's potential developments could set in motion the return of Jones to the top of the QB depth chart.
Dec 10, 2021
Another absence on tap
Jones (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Chargers, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been unable to gain clearance to play through a strained neck and thus will miss his second straight game. As for his replacement under center, Mike Glennon made enough progress through the concussion protocol this week to log a full practice Friday, and coach Joe Judge stated confidence that Glennon will clear the final phase -- an examination with an independent neurologist -- in time to play Sunday, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. If Glennon does not, though, Jake Fromm would be in line for his first NFL action.
Dec 9, 2021
Stays limited Thursday
Jones (neck) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite dealing with a strained neck, Jones dropped back and launched some deep shots during individual drills Thursday, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger, marking his second straight capped session. Still, Jones has yet to be cleared for contact after visiting a specialist in Los Angeles earlier this week. He seems poised to log another absence Sunday at the Chargers, but it remains to be seen who will be under center for the Giants. No. 2 QB Mike Glennon, who got back on the field Thursday as a limited participant, is working his way through the concussion protocol and will start if he clears league protocols. If Glennon is unable to do so, Jake Fromm would be set to see his first NFL action.
Dec 8, 2021
Limited again Wednesday
Jones (neck) was a limited participant at Wednesday's walkthrough, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is in the midst of what's slated to be a multi-week absence due to a sprained neck, already sitting out the Giants' Week 13 loss in Miami. Per Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger, Jones visited a specialist in L.A. on Monday, after which he has yet to be cleared for contact. But Jones was able to get on the field for a fourth consecutive practice dating back to last week, which cannot be said for Mike Glennon as he works his way through the concussion protocol. The Giants expect Glennon receive to clearance to play ahead of Sunday's road game against the Chargers, but they are preparing Jake Fromm for a spot start if it's needed.
Dec 6, 2021
Looks set for another absence
Jones (neck) is reportedly considered likely to miss Week 14's game against the Chargers, Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones missed Sunday's 20-9 loss against the Dolphins due to a neck injury that's serious enough for coach Joe Judge to refuse ruling out the possibility of it being season ending. The quarterback was previously reported to be 'week-to-week', but he also managed to log three limited practices prior to Sunday's loss in Miami. All things considered, though Jones hasn't been ruled out for Week 14 yet, he does appear to be trending toward another missed game. Top backup Mike Glennon suffered a concussion versus the Dolphins, making his own status uncertain. As a result, Jake Fromm and practice squad member Brian Lewerke could get a chance to make their respective NFL debuts.
Dec 5, 2021
Multi-week absence expected
Jones (neck), who is listed as out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, will undergo additional testing Monday and is expected to remain out for multiple weeks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior reports previously described Jones as week-to-week after he suffered a strained neck in the Giants' Nov. 28 with over the Eagles, but the quarterback looked to have a legitimate shot at avoiding an absence after he practiced on a limited basis Wednesday through Friday. However, Jones wasn't able to take contact in any of those sessions, and that appears to be the main obstacle he'll have to clear in order to return to the lineup. The Giants fear that Jones is dealing with a "ligament issue and maybe more," according to Rapoport, and the 24-year-old's upcoming tests should shed more light on the extent of his injury and whether he'll have any chance at playing next week against the Chargers. Mike Glennon will start in his stead Sunday in Miami and would likely pick up any additional starts that Jones might miss.
Dec 3, 2021
Won't play Sunday
Coach Joe Judge said Jones (neck) hasn't been cleared for contact work and has been ruled out for Sunday's game at Miami, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was able to practice as a limited participant this week after picking up a neck strain Week 12 versus the Eagles, but he hasn't made enough progress to have a chance to suit up this weekend. According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, it's not believed to be a season-ending injury, though it's unclear when Jones will be cleared for contact work. Mike Glennon is set to start at quarterback for New York on Sunday, while Jake Fromm, who was signed off Buffalo's practice squad Tuesday, will handle backup duties.
Dec 2, 2021
Another limited practice
Jones (neck) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Since emerging from Week 12 action with a strained neck, Jones has gone from a week-to-week proposition to something closer to day-to-day after being able to get on the practice field Wednesday and remain there in the second session of the week. Coach Joe Judge told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com on Thursday that a decision on Jones is on the team's medical staff, but he's willing to take it down to the wire to see if the quarterback can play Week 13. With the Giants kicking off Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET, Jones' status will be known about 90 minutes prior, but if he's unable to go the team will hand over the offense to veteran Mike Glennon.
Dec 1, 2021
Has a shot to play this week
Speaking after Wednesday's practice, Jones (neck) said he has a chance to play Sunday against the Dolphins, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
While he didn't sound especially confident, Jones seems to be doing better than early reports suggested, now looking more day-to-day than week-to-week. He took part in Wednesday's practice, presumably as a limited participant, with coach Joe Judge saying he expects Jones to practice Thursday and Friday as well. If the 24-year-old QB ultimately can't play, Mike Glennon will get the start Sunday in Miami.
Dec 1, 2021
Expected to practice
Coach Joe Judge said Wednesday that he expects Jones (neck) to participate in practice, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge also said he expects Jones to practice Thursday and Friday, and per Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site, that he isn't ruling anything out about the quarterback's availability. That said, Jones has already been labeled week-to-week due to a neck strain and is reportedly unlikely to face Miami on Sunday, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Mike Glennon will be available for a spot start if Jones indeed can't go, while the Giants also recently signed Jake Fromm off the Bills' practice squad.
Nov 30, 2021
Deemed week-to-week
Jones (neck) is considered week-to-week and unlikely to play Sunday at Miami, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Apparently, Jones strained his neck early on during the Giants' Week 12 win versus the Eagles. He proceeded to log all 58 offensive snaps on his way to 19-for-30 passing for 202 yards and one touchdown to go with nine rushes for 30 yards. The aforementioned injury now threatens his availability in the short term, with Mike Glennon in line to earn spot starts as long as Jones is sidelined.
Nov 30, 2021
Dealing with neck strain
Jones strained his neck during the Giants' Week 12 win against the Eagles, and his status is up in the air for Sunday's game at Miami, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Aside from Week 4, when he sustained a concussion, Jones has played 100 percent of the offensive snaps in each of the Giants' other 10 games this season. He managed to complete 19 of 30 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown while taking nine carries for 30 yards this past Sunday, but with an injury in tow he's poised to have some practice limitations this week. Wednesday's injury report will inform how Jones kicks off Week 13 prep.

Escapes with win
Jones completed 19 of 30 pass attempts for 202 yards and one touchdown while running for 30 yards on nine carries against Philadelphia on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The Eagles kept Jones under a decent amount of pressure, hitting him five times on the modest pass attempt volume, but it still would have been nice to see Jones produce a bit better than this. Jones and the Giants head to Miami to face the Dolphins in Week 3, and that matchup would be significantly more manageable for Jones if one of Sterling Shepard or Kadarius Toney -- his two best slot receivers -- could return from injury by then. The Dolphins blitz aggressively and big plays can be had as a result, but Jones will need to be alert and correctly identify the weak spots.

Struggles in defeat
Jones completed 23 of 38 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Monday night's 30-10 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Jones had another rough primetime outing, struggling to move the ball while facing regular pressure as well. The signal-caller threw a poor interception late and across his body during the second half, then had another attempt picked while throwing into traffic two drives later. Although a clever, two-yard touchdown to offensive tackle Andrew Thomas offered at least one bright spot, Jones will nonetheless strive for a much improved showing against the Eagles in Week 12.

Manages Giants to win
Jones recorded 15 of 20 passes for 110 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Raiders. He added four rushes for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
The Giants relied heavily on their ground game by logging 31 rushing attempts as opposed to only 20 pass attempts. That deflated Jones' numbers, as did the fact that he averaged only 5.5 yards per attempt -- his second-lowest mark of the season. More positively, Jones managed to largely play mistake-free football, though he did lose his third fumble of the season. Also notable is the disappearance of Jones' rushing upside, as he's logged 20 yards or fewer with his legs in in four of his last five games. He and the Giants have their bye in Week 10.
Nov 1, 2021
Comes up short
Jones completed 22 of 32 passes for 222 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Monday night's 20-17 loss to the Chiefs. He also rushed five times for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones began by throwing an interception from his 22-yard line on his first pass of the game, gifting the Chiefs another opportunity to score after the Giants' defense had just made an interception in the end zone. Although the signal-caller eventually rebounded with a 50-yard completion to John Ross and a pair of red-zone touchdowns to tight ends Kyle Rudolph and Evan Engram, New York's undermanned offense couldn't move the ball consistently enough to win, with Jones taking a bad sack while trying to engineer a late comeback as well. As Jones now turns his attention toward a Raiders team coming off a bye, it'll be interesting to see who'll be healthy enough to comprise his supporting cast in Week 9.
Oct 24, 2021
Bounces back against Panthers
Jones completed 23 of 33 pass attempts for 203 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 25-3 win over the Panthers. He added eight rushes for 28 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones was coming off of a disastrous four-turnover performance in Week 6, but he took care of the ball and led the Giants to victory Sunday. However, that still didn't lead to tremendous fantasy production, as he managed only 6.2 yards per attempt. In addition to limited yardage, Jones has only thrown for multiple touchdowns in a game only once this season. Jones continued to add some upside to his statline with production on the ground, topping 25 rushing yards for the fourth time this season. He could be in a friendly game environment in Week 8 against the Chiefs.
Oct 17, 2021
Rough afternoon in Week 6 loss
Jones completed 29 of 51 passes for 242 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions in the Giants' 38-11 loss to the Rams on Sunday. He also threw a two-point conversion pass, rushed three times for four yards and committed two fumbles, losing one.
ANALYSIS
Jones final yardage total was respectable enough, but it belied the degree of difficulty he endured throughout the afternoon. The embattled signal-caller was sacked four times and hit on seven occasions overall just a week after suffering a concussion against the Cowboys. Jones also saw his previously modest but tidy 4:1 TD:INT ratio take a serious hit with Sunday's trio of picks, two which led to Rams touchdowns. The fact Kenny Golladay (knee) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) were out Sunday and Kadarius Toney exited early with a reaggravation of his ankle injury certainly didn't help matters, but Jones will look to bounce back with what is likely a short-handed crew to some extent in Week 7 against the Panthers at home.
Oct 15, 2021
Cleared by neurologist
Jones (concussion) has been cleared by a neurologist and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Rams, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will avoid a missed game, and he'll have Sterling Shepard back from a hamstring injury. On the other hand, Kenny Golladay (knee) and Saquon Barkley (ankle) have been ruled out, and four other potential starters are listed as questionable (WR Darius Slayton, WR Kadarius Toney, LT Andrew Thomas, LG Ben Bredeson). Dan Duggan of The Athletic suggests Toney is on track to play, whereas the other three appear truly questionable. Jones has a lot working against him this week, including the matchup against Aaron Donald and Co., though he has been playing much better in 2021 than he did in past seasons.
Oct 15, 2021
On track to play Sunday
Coach Joe Judge said Jones (concussion) is scheduled to be a full practice participant Friday and is expected to play Sunday against the Rams, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has yet to fully clear the concussion protocol, but it appears he's in its final stages and will practice Friday. The 24-year-old could still receive the questionable tag if he's unable to receive full clearance by the end of the day, but he may not end up missing any additional time after suffering the concussion last weekend in Dallas.
Oct 14, 2021
Limited Thursday
Jones (concussion) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Joe Judge told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com earlier Thursday that Jones would be capped to non-contact work, but the mere fact the quarterback already has progressed from no activity Wednesday to some one day later indicates progress through the NFL's protocol for head injuries. "At this point, everything looks positive," Judge added. Indeed, Jones handled the initial reps at Thursday's practice, but due to the fickle nature of concussions he'll likely need to increase his participation further Friday to put himself in a position to play Sunday against the Rams. If he's unable to go, Jones will yield QB duties to veteran Mike Glennon.
Oct 14, 2021
Progressing well through protocol
Giants head coach Joe Judge said Jones (concussion) will be a non-contact participant in Thursday's practice, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. "At this point everything looks positive," Judge said, when asked about Jones' chances of playing Sunday against the Rams.
ANALYSIS
After sustaining the concussion in the Giants' Week 5 loss to the Cowboys, Jones was a non-participant in Wednesday's practice, but the fact that he was donning full pads and a helmet while throwing off to the side in the session was a positive sign that he was progressing through the five-step protocol. Jones' ability to take part in non-contact drills seemingly represents another step forward, though it's unclear if the quarterback's activity will translate to a "limited" listing on the Giants' official injury report. Mike Glennon will stay prepared to start Sunday against the Rams in the event Jones can't clear the protocol in time, but for the time being, the Giants appear optimistic that their top signal-caller will be available. If Jones suits up this weekend, Judge told Tom Rock of Newsday that the game plan wouldn't be altered to limit the quarterback's exposure to contact, so Jones should still have plenty of involvement as a runner.
Oct 13, 2021
Not practicing, not yet out Week 6
Giants head coach Joe Judge said Jones (concussion) won't practice Wednesday, but the quarterback is "on track with everything" in his recovery from the brain injury and hasn't yet been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones isn't believed to have an extensive history of concussions, but the one he suffered in last week's loss to the Cowboys looked fairly serious, as he struggled to get back on his feet after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit before being ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Though Judge was unwilling to rule Jones out from clearing the five-step protocol before the weekend, the 24-year-old will likely need to make enough progress in his recovery to get back on the field for practice in some capacity Thursday or Friday to have a legitimate shot at playing. Mike Glennon will take reps with the first-team offense Wednesday and would be in line to start if Jones is ruled out for Week 6.
Oct 3, 2021
Tops 400 yards in comeback OT win
Jones completed 28 of 40 passes for 402 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 27-21 overtime win over New Orleans. He added 27 yards on four rushing attempts and ran in a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
After the teams exchanged missed field goals, Jones opened the scoring with a 52-yard touchdown to John Ross. His first interception of the season wasn't a costly one, as it came on a Hail Mary to end the first half. Jones and the rest of the Giants offense were quiet through three quarters outside of the Ross touchdown, but a 54-yard touchdown pass to Saquon Barkley and Jones' ensuing two-point conversion ignited New York's comeback, cutting the Saints' lead to three with 6:52 remaining. The third-year quarterback proceeded to set up Graham Gano's game-tying 48-yard field goal in the final minute, then marched the offense down the field for the game-winning drive in overtime, which Barkley capped with a six-yard touchdown run. Fresh off his first 400-yard passing game -- and first 300-yard performance since his rookie season -- Jones will be brimming with confidence when the Giants travel to Dallas in Week 5.
Sep 26, 2021
No touchdowns in defeat
Jones completed 24 of 35 passes for 266 yards in Sunday's 17-14 loss to the Falcons. He also rushed eight times for 39 yards and a successful two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
Jones was forced to cope with wideouts Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard both exiting Sunday with hamstring injuries, as well as tailback Saquon Barkley being sidelined for a brief period. Although he recovered his own fumble twice, Jones avoided turning the ball over and completed a high percentage of his passes for the second straight week. He also made a decent impact with his legs, including his two-point conversion to start the fourth quarter. With no touchdowns to show for his effort, though, Jones will strive to have more of an influence in Week 4 versus the Saints, even if his receiving corps could be short-handed.
Sep 17, 2021
Stellar showing goes for naught
Jones completed 22 of 32 passes for 249 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions while adding 95 rushing yards and a touchdown on nine carries in the Giants' 30-29 loss to Washington on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Playing behind a porous offensive line that allowed him to get sacked four times and hit on seven occasions overall, Jones persevered and put together a gutsy turnover-free performance. The third-year signal-caller was especially impressive as a runner, and his six-yard scoring jaunt in the first quarter opened the scoring on the night. Jones displayed his greatest rapport with veteran Sterling Shepard, but he hit the speedy Darius Slayton for his one touchdown pass, a 33-yard strike midway through the third quarter. Jones certainly contributed numbers good enough to secure a victory, but he'll head into a Week 3 home date against the Falcons a week from Sunday still in search of his first 2021 win.
Sep 13, 2021
Solid effort in Week 1 loss
Jones completed 22 of 37 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 27 yards and another TD on six carries in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
The third-year QB posted decent enough fantasy numbers, but Jones' red-zone fumble early in the third quarter when the game was still in reach was a back-breaker for the Giants. The offense as a whole should begin to look better once Saquon Barkley is ready to handle his usual workload, but until then Jones could be prone to more mistakes and turnovers as he tries to do too much. After being sacked twice Sunday, he'll face another dangerous pass rush in Week 2 on the road against Washington.
Aug 29, 2021
Touchdown and pick versus Pats
Jones completed 17 of 22 passes for 135 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 22-20 preseason loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Jones turned in an uneven performance while playing the entire first half. After punting on New York's first two drives, he ended the third series by throwing an interception on third-and-goal from New England's one-yard line. Fortunately, Jones eventually bounced back by hitting Kaden Smith on a nice 23-yard touchdown pass just before halftime. On the back of that showing, Jones will now turn his attention toward what could be a critical third season for him, beginning with Week 1's matchup versus the Broncos.
Aug 22, 2021
Set to play in exhibition finale
Jones is expected to play at least the first half of next Sunday's preseason finale against the Patriots, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
After working against the Browns in back-to-back practices this past week, coach Joe Judge opted to rest Giants starters this Sunday at Cleveland. With Jones poised to make his debut this exhibition season next weekend, he'll be working with many of his top skill-position players, but questions still surround whether Saquon Barkley (knee) and Kenny Golladay (hamstring) will suit up. In any case, Jones and the rest of the Giants offense soon will have their dress rehearsal for the regular season.
Aug 22, 2021
Sitting out second preseason game
Giants head coach Joe Judge said Jones won't play in Sunday's preseason game against the Browns, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will remain on the sideline for a second straight week, as the Giants also held him out for rest purposes in the preseason opener against the Jets. Judge was satisfied enough with how Jones looked in joint practices with Cleveland in recent days, so the Giants will have Mike Glennon and Brian Lewerke split the quarterback reps in the second preseason contest.
Aug 12, 2021
Won't play vs. Jets
Jones won't play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Jets, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones figures to be joined on the sideline by a bunch of other starters, as Giants coach Joe Judge said he'll handle the first preseason game the way teams used to handle the last one. That could mean we see Jones in the second and third preseason games, though it's also possible the Giants restrict him to a lone appearance. While the team upgraded its WR room significantly this spring, the offensive line remains a likely weakness.
Apr 30, 2021
Gets more weapons
With the Giants trading out of the 11th pick (Justin Fields), it appears they're entirely committed to Jones for this season at least. Moreover, they added another receiver, Kadarius Toney, with the 20th overall pick.
ANALYSIS
Jones now has Toney and Kenny Golladay to go along with Darius Slayton, Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram and Saquon Barkley. The offensive line is still a question mark, but the Giants are doing everything they can to surround Jones with playmakers. By passing on Fields, the last of the top QB prospects, the team seems to be all-in on Jones, despite his uneven performance to date.
Feb 9, 2021
Locked in for 2021
The Giants appear committed to Jones as their starting quarterback for 2021, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
ANALYSIS
A few NFL teams appear ready to give up on first-round QBs they drafted in recent years, but the Giants are expected to stick with Jones, hoping he'll play better if he has more help around him. To that end, the team could stand to add a solid blocker and another reliable pass catcher, in addition to the potential benefit from getting Saquon Barkley (knee) back on the field. While Jones figures to be the Week 1 starter, it is possible he'll be on a shorter leash in 2021, especially if the Giants find a better backup than Colt McCoy.
Jan 3, 2021
Efficient in win over Cowboys
Jones compoleted 17 of 25 pass attempts for two touchdowns and one interception while adding 17 yards on nine carries during Sunday's 23-19 win over the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Jones averaged an efficient 9.2 yards per attempt while completing 68 percent of his passes. He threw multiple touchdown passes for the first time in six appearances, connecting with Dante Pettis and Sterling Shepard from 33 and 10 yards out, respectively. Jones finishes the regular season shy of 3,000 passing yards and with a 11:10 TD:INT, but he could find himself playing in the postseason if the Eagles defeat Washington on Sunday night.
Dec 30, 2020
Compensating for hampered mobility
Jones said Wednesday that until he's fully healthy he "intends to play from the pocket more," Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones logged 55 carries for 406 yards through the Giants' first 11 games of the season, but since Week 12 he's had to substantially adjust his playstyle due to hamstring and ankle injuries. In his two appearances since getting nicked up Jones has only rushed once for three yards. An inability to make plays with his legs has likewise limited Jones' ability to attack defenses through the air, with just one passing touchdown in his last two games. Jones was listed on Wednesday's practice report as a full participant, per Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site, and he shed his ankle injury designation entirely, but it appears that he won't be healthy enough to resume scrambling as usual during Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
Dec 27, 2020
Scores once via air in Week 16 loss
Jones completed 24 of 41 pass attempts for 252 yards and a touchdown, adding one rush for three yards during Sunday's 27-13 loss to Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
New York's offensive slump carried into Week 16, as the team was held under 20 points for a fifth consecutive game en route to a third straight loss. Jones proved capable of battling through ankle and hamstring injuries to avoid a third game absence since Week 13, but the sophomore signal-caller remains without a multi-TD passing performance over his past five starts. The quarterback has three such outings all season, while a season high of 279 passing yards caps his upside. Jones does have the ability to produce on the ground, but he's exceeded 20 rushing yards only once since Week 8. To close out the season, Jones and the Giants may have a chance at dashing Dallas' playoff hopes during a Week 17 matchup. The QB's practice involvement throughout the week will merit observation, however, given recent struggles to stay on the field.
Dec 27, 2020
Returning Sunday
Jones (ankle/hamstring) is listed as active Sunday in Baltimore, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out Weeks 13 and 15, Jones will play through a right hamstring injury and a sprained left ankle, as expected. He'll have a tall task on his hands against the Ravens' fourth-ranked scoring defense (20.5 points per game).
Dec 26, 2020
Expected to play
Jones (ankle/hamstring) is expected to start Sunday against the Ravens, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones seemed to be trending in this direction considering he was available, albeit in limited fashion, all week during practice. The 23-year-old has played in just one game during the month of December thanks to a lingering dual hamstring and ankle injury, but expect the second-year pro to be available Sunday.
Dec 25, 2020
Questionable for Sunday
Jones (ankle/hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Baltimore, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was limited in practice Wednesday through Friday, never quite making it to full participation. Even so, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network both believe Jones is on track to play. The Giants have a 1 ET kickoff Sunday in Baltimore, with Colt McCoy on hand to make the start if Jones is a surprise inactive.
Dec 25, 2020
Looks on track for Week 16
Head coach Joe Judge said that Jones (ankle/hamstring) is "heading in the right direction," seemingly putting the quarterback on track to start Sunday in the Giants' game against the Ravens, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge's comments came after Jones practiced on a limited basis for the second straight day Thursday. While Jones was a limited participant all of last week before ultimately being ruled out ahead of the Giants' loss to the Browns, he's been taking the first rep ahead of Colt McCoy in both of the team's practices this week, a sign that the coaching staff believes the 2019 first-round pick is on track to play in Baltimore. The Giants will evaluate Jones at their final Week 16 practice Friday before deciding whether to give the signal-caller a designation for the contest.
Dec 24, 2020
Maintains limited practice activity
Jones (ankle/hamstring) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones split first-team reps with Colt McCoy for the second straight practice, but the second-year signal-caller appears to be in a better spot health wise than he was last week. According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Jones has been the first quarterback under center in practices Wednesday and Thursday, whereas McCoy took the initial reps last week before getting the starting nod ahead of Sunday's loss to Washington. Unless he turns in full workout Friday, Jones is still likely to be listed as questionable for this weekend's game in Baltimore, but he appears to have an edge over McCoy for the start based on his practice usage thus far.
Dec 23, 2020
Limited to begin Week 16
Jones (ankle/hamstring) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News noted that Jones looked notably improved at Wednesday's practice compared to last week, a hint that he could be trending in the right direction for Sunday's road game against the Ravens. The second-year pro has missed two of the last three games, first due to a right hamstring strain and the with a left ankle injury.
Dec 23, 2020
Practicing Wednesday
Jones (hamstring/ankle) participated in Wednesday's practice, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Both Raanan and Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News speculated that Jones looked much better this week than last and appeared to be taking his typical pre-injury practice reps. Jones also fit in a sprint during warmups. His activity level seems to indicate he's trending toward a return Sunday at Baltimore after missing two of the last three games due to first a right hamstring injury and then a sprained left ankle. In the end, though, the Giants will reveal how much work he handled upon the release of Wednesday's practice report.
Dec 23, 2020
Week 16 status TBD
Coach Joe Judge hopes to have "some kind of an answer" regarding the status of Jones (ankle) for Sunday's game against the Ravens after Friday's practice, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Judge has gotten "good feedback" on the QB from the Giants' trainers, but wants to see how he looks at practice over the next three days before making any decision about whether Jones or Colt McCoy will draw the team's starting signal-caller nod this weekend.
Dec 20, 2020
Not playing Sunday
Jones (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Browns, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
For the second time in three games, Jones will take a seat due to the combination of a right hamstring injury from Week 12 and a sprained left ankle from last Sunday versus the Cardinals. In his stead, Colt McCoy will direct the Giants offense, with Clayton Thorson serving as the backup quarterback. Jones' next chance to suit up comes next Sunday at Baltimore.
Dec 19, 2020
Availability unlikely
Jones (ankle/hamstring) is not expected to play Sunday despite being listed as questionable, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was able to practice in limited fashion all week so it's a bit surprising there's reports already suggesting the second-year quarterback will be unable to play, but considering the Giants won't kick off until 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday, the early warning might help fantasy managers better prepare. It's worth noting Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports Colt McCoy will start, seemingly removing any sort of possibility Jones could make a miraculous turnaround before the prime-time contest, but the Giants have yet to officially make that call.
Dec 18, 2020
Questionable for Sunday
Jones (ankle/hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was a limited practice participant Wednesday through Friday, sharing reps with backup quarterback Colt McCoy. This could come down to a game-time decision ahead of the 8:20 ET kickoff Sunday night, with Jones hoping to fight through a sprained ankle and injured hamstring. He didn't look good in a 26-7 loss to the Cardinals last week, throwing for only 127 yards before he was pulled from the game in the fourth quarter.
Dec 18, 2020
Looks limited at practice
Jones (hamstring/ankle) is practicing Friday, but it appears Colt McCoy could get the start Sunday against Cleveland, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
It sounds like Jones will be listed as a limited participant for the third time this week, but it isn't clear what his game designation (questionable/doubtful/out) will be on the final injury report. Jones missed Week 13 with a right hamstring injury, then sprained his left ankle when he returned to action last week. The Giants will release their injury Friday afternoon.
Dec 17, 2020
Limited on practice estimate
Jones (hamstring/ankle) was listed as limited on Thursday's estimated injury report, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is dealing with a pair of injuries at the moment: a right hamstring injury that sidelined him Week 13 and a sprained left ankle that he picked up this past Sunday against the Giants. While the Giants didn't hold practice Thursday, coach Joe Judge noted that he was "encouraged" by Jones' ability to move about at Wednesday's session, per Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York. This comment comes on the heels of Judge stating Jones will be the starting quarterback Sunday against the Browns as long as he holds up on the field this week. Thus, Friday's practice may be the determining factor for Jones' Week 15 status. In the event he can't suit up this weekend, Jones will hand over starting duties to Colt McCoy.
Dec 16, 2020
Officially limited Wednesday
Jones (hamstring/ankle) was limited at Wednesday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was able to gut out a right hamstring injury this past Sunday against the Cardinals, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Network noted the second-year quarterback sprained his left ankle in that contest. The fact Jones was able to handle some reps is a decent sign that he's doing everything in his power to be available Week 15 versus the Browns. However, his status will be one to watch due to his further compromised health. If Jones sits out another game, Colt McCoy is ready and waiting for another start under center.
Dec 16, 2020
Ankle injury surfaces
Coach Joe Judge relayed Wednesday that Jones is dealing with another lower leg injury beside the hamstring issue he was previously dealing with, Tom Rock of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network indicates that Jones suffered a sprained ankle during Week 14 action. Per Rock's report, the Giants will evaluate the QB as the week rolls along, but at this stage Judge acknowledges that Jones may not be able to start Sunday's game against the Browns. If Jones can't go this weekend, Colt McCoy would step in as the team's starter versus Cleveland.
Dec 14, 2020
Will start if healthy
Coach Joe Judge said Monday that Jones will start against the Browns in Week 15 as long as he looks healthy in practice, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge also noted that Jones wasn't removed from last Sunday's loss to Arizona because of an additional or aggravated injury, per Leonard. However, it clearly seems as though Jones was still bothered by the hamstring injury that forced him to sit out Week 13, as he failed to showcase his usual mobility and fumbled three times without logging a single carry. As long as Jones doesn't have any setbacks in practice it looks as though he'll start under center against Cleveland, but if the second-year pro is hobbled he could have a particularly tough time escaping from a defensive line led by Myles Garrett.
Dec 13, 2020
Struggles in return
Jones completed 11 of 21 passes for 127 yards without a touchdown or interception in Sunday's 26-7 loss to Arizona. He also fumbled three times, losing one.
ANALYSIS
Jones hadn't turned the ball over in his previous three games played, but that streak quickly came to an end on New York's opening drive, as the second-year quarterback's fumbling issues reared their head again on a sack near midfield. Jones set up Dion Lewis' one-yard rushing touchdown with a 39-yard pass to Golden Tate in the third quarter but failed to lead the Giants to any other points in his return following a one-game absence due to a hamstring injury. The normally mobile quarterback didn't record a rushing attempt and sat out New York's final drive with the game out of reach, suggesting his hamstring is nowhere near 100 percent. New York's still in the hunt for a playoff spot in the dreadful NFC East and will have a decision to make between a depleted Jones and backup Colt McCoy in Week 15 against the Browns.
Dec 13, 2020
Returns to action Sunday
Jones (hamstring) is listed as active Sunday versus the Cardinals, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was unable to do too much on-field work prior to sitting out Week 13, the result of a right hamstring injury. When the Giants reconvened for practice Wednesday, he proceeded to put together back-to-back limited listings before wrapping up the week with a full session. Still, the team decided to wait until it was required to make a decision on his availability. That said, he may cede some snaps to backup Colt McCoy, per Raanan, so Jones is difficult to trust for fantasy purposes.
Dec 12, 2020
Expected to play
Jones (hamstring) is expected to start Sunday against the Cardinals, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This reinforces the report that came Friday suggesting the second-year quarterback would miss just one game thanks to a balky hamstring. It's fair to assume some of Jones' athleticism will likely be hampered, but considering the draft capital invested in the quarterback last season, it's hard to imagine the team would trot out Jones unless he was healthy enough to make a difference on the field. That being said, it might not be a great matchup for Jones considering the Cardinals have allowed less than 250 passing yards in four of the last five games.
Dec 11, 2020
Seemingly on track to play
Jones (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Raanan suggests the quarterback looked good at Friday's practice, finishing out the week as a full participant after he was limited Wednesday and Thursday. The upgrade puts Jones on track to play this week, with the Giants right in the mix for a playoff spot. We'll be on the lookout for confirmation of his status prior to the 1 ET kickoff Sunday.

Optimism for Week 14 return
Coach Joe Judge expressed optimism about Jones' (hamstring) status for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, but he also said, "at the same time, there's a ways to go," Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge also indicated Jones showed clear progress coming out of Thursday's practice, though the quarterback has yet to work as a limited participant. How the 23-year-old looks during Friday's practice should dictate whether he's available for Sunday's contest versus the Cardinals. Colt McCoy is poised for another start at quarterback should Jones be forced to miss his second straight game.
Dec 10, 2020
Another limited practice
Jones (hamstring) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was also listed as limited at Wednesday's walk-through session, so Thursday's practice doesn't represent a substantial change one way or the other. Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports that the Giants intend to make a final decision about the second-year quarterback's Week 14 availability Friday, so it looks like Jones' chances of facing the Cardinals will come down to how well he does during the final practice of the week.
Dec 10, 2020
Call on status could arrive Friday
Coach Joe Judge noted Thursday that the Giants are hoping to make a final decision on Jones' (hamstring) Week 14 status on Friday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge added that how the QB does at practice Thursday should be telling with regard to his chances of starting Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Per the report, Jones has been throwing the ball well but the team's coaching staff wants to see how he moves around in the pocket before determining how to proceed with the second-year signal-caller in advance of Week 14 action.
Dec 9, 2020
Limited at walk-through
Jones (hamstring) was limited at Wednesday's walk-through, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Joe Judge opened Week 14 prep Monday by stating Jones will have "every opportunity" to return Sunday against the Cardinals, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Judge also told Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record that he wants to see Jones "sidestep" and "step up" when pressured in the pocket, while avoiding "getting hurt worse." During the part of Wednesday's session open to the media, Jones was spotted stretching with the team, and his 'limited' tag indicates he was able to fit in some on-field reps. He'll have two more chances to prove his health before week's end.
Dec 7, 2020
Could return Week 14
Coach Joe Judge said Monday that he'll give Jones (hamstring) "every opportunity" to play Week 14, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones managed to practice in a limited capacity Friday, but he was nonetheless forced to sit out Sunday's upset win over the Seahawks due to his hamstring strain. He'll work to limit himself to a one-game absence by proving his health once the Giants resume practicing, though a decision on Jones' availability could realistically come down to the wire. Colt McCoy will start versus the Cardinals if Jones ends up sidelined again.
Dec 6, 2020
Inactive as expected Week 13
Jones is inactive for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
This announcement merely makes what was expected a formality, even with Jones managing to work back to a limited practice Friday. Colt McCoy, who averaged just 3.1 yards per attempt after taking over for Jones against the Bengals in Week 12, will draw the start against a Seahawks defense that's improved against the pass of late, allowing 240.0 yards through the air over the last three games (compared to a 328.8 season figure). Jones' next opportunity to suit up will come in Week 14 against the Cardinals.
Dec 4, 2020
Officially doubtful for Week 13
The Giants list Jones (hamstring) as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
As anticipated, New York doesn't plan on having Jones available Sunday while he works back from the right hamstring strain he sustained in last week's win over the Bengals, but he at least avoided being ruled out for the contest after practicing Friday in a limited capacity, per Dan Duggan of The Athletic. While that bodes well for Jones' chances of playing next week versus the Cardinals, he'll likely cede Week 13 starting duties to Colt McCoy, who replaced Jones in the win over Cincinnati and handled first-team reps at Friday's practice, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. The Giants are expected to add either Clayton Thorson or Alex Tanney to the 53-man roster Saturday to serve as McCoy's backup this weekend.
Dec 3, 2020
Another missed practice
Jones (hamstring) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York, Jones was seen working on the side with the team's training staff, but the activity wasn't enough to result in drills in practice. The Giants have yet to make a definitive ruling on Jones' status for Sunday's game at Seattle, but with no activity so far this week, he's trending in the wrong direction. If Jones sits out Week 13, the Giants will go with Colt McCoy under center.
Dec 2, 2020
No practice Wednesday
Jones (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Jones avoided suffering a major hamstring injury during Sunday's win at Cincinnati, giving him a shot to suit up Week 13 at Seattle. That said, Jones wasn't present for the open portion of Wednesday's session and eventually went down as a non-participant to kick off the week of prep. He'll look to get on the field in some capacity Thursday or Friday, but if he eventually needs time off, Jones will yield QB duties to Colt McCoy, who took on most of the first-team reps Wednesday.
Nov 30, 2020
Avoids major injury
Jones (hamstring) has a chance to suit up against Seattle in Week 13, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was forced out of last weekend's win over the Bengals due to a hamstring injury, and while it still appears that he could be in danger of missing time, the second-year signal-caller has at least avoided a severe injury. It sounds like the final decision on Jones' availability versus Seattle will come down to what he's able to do in practice this week. If it's determined that Jones needs more rest, backup Colt McCoy will likely be called upon to slot back in under center.
Nov 29, 2020
Could miss time
Jones suffered a "pretty bad" hamstring injury during Sunday's 19-17 victory at Cincinnati that may force him to miss some time, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones logged just four offensive snaps in two stints after injuring his right hamstring in the third quarter, otherwise yielding QB duties to backup Colt McCoy. Afterward, coach Joe Judge told Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York that Jones was slated for an MRI and additional testing, but whatever is discovered it appears the Giants will be without the second-year signal-caller for at least one game. Expect clarity on Jones' health to emerge on due time.
Nov 29, 2020
Slated for MRI
Coach Joe Judge said Jones will undergo testing on his right hamstring following Sunday's 19-17 win in Cincinnati, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports. "We'll take a look and see what it is," Judge noted. "He's got to see the doctors."
ANALYSIS
After grabbing at his right hamstring at the conclusion of a seven-yard run in the third quarter, Jones was evaluated on the sideline for a spell and eventually cleared to return by the Giants' training staff. However, he lasted just two plays before leaving the game for good. An MRI on Monday may reveal the extent of the injury, and beyond that point his activity will need to be watched ahead of a Week 13 road matchup with the Seahawks. If Jones requires any time away from the field, Colt McCoy will direct the offense.
Nov 29, 2020
Hurts hamstring Sunday
Jones injured his right hamstring during the third quarter of Sunday's game at Cincinnati, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones appeared to tweak the hamstring at the end of a seven-yard run. Two plays later, he was unable to step into a third-down throw and left the game. Upon examination and doing some drop backs on the sideline, he returned to the contest, only to last two more snaps before heading to the bench again. Per Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger, Jones is questionable to return, but as long as he's off the field, Colt McCoy will helm the Giants offense.
Nov 15, 2020
Gets it done on ground
Jones completed 21 of 28 pass attempts for 244 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 10 against the Eagles. He added nine rushes for 64 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
ANALYSIS
Jones set the tone for the Giants' offensively on the first drive, connecting with Darius Slayton for a 22-yard gain prior to running in a 34-yard touchdown. While he didn't post massive numbers through air, Jones avoided turnovers and connected with a number of his receiving weapons to log four passes of 20 yards or more. Jones has led the Giants to two consecutive victories, combining to complete 44 of 62 pass attempts for 456 yards, two total touchdowns and no turnovers. The team now heads into their Week 11 bye.
Nov 8, 2020
Leads Giants to second win of year
Jones completed 23 of 34 pass attempts for 212 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions during Sunday's 23-20 win against Washington. He added four rushing yards on six attempts.
ANALYSIS
So continues the trend of Jones' dominance against his divisional foe Washington, as he pushes his record to 4-0 against the Football Team since entering the NFL in 2019. Jones was able to avoid any giveaways despite fumbling twice in this game, though turnovers have cost him dearly in his 21 games as a starter. This season he entered the game with a 7:9 TD:INT with five fumbles as the Giants stood at 1-7. He still carries a career record of 1-16 against all NFL teams besides from Washington as he prepares for a Week 10 matchup against the Eagles' No. 4 pass defense.
Nov 3, 2020
Inconsistent in another narrow loss
Jones completed 25 of 41 passes for 256 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Monday night's 25-23 loss to the Buccaneers. He also rushed three times for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones endured another turbulent outing ending in narrow defeat. The quarterback started with a seven-yard touchdown to Dion Lewis, but his play afterward was mostly marred by barely missing and not spotting teammates open on deep balls, as well as continued bad decision-making under pressure. With two more interceptions, Jones now trails only Carson Wentz in turnovers, but to his credit, Jones rallied the Giants with fourth-down heroics and a beautiful, 19-yard touchdown toss on their final drive. That put New York a two-point conversion away from forcing overtime, but Jones' ensuing attempt was broken up with under 30 seconds remaining. Overall, it was an unfortunately familiar performance for Jones, who'll now turn his attention to a win-able Week 9 matchup against Washington.
Oct 23, 2020
Critical late-game gaffe in loss
Jones completed 20 of 30 passes for 187 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Giants' 22-21 loss to the Eagles on Thursday night. He also rushed four times for 92 yards and lost a critical fourth-quarter fumble.
ANALYSIS
Jones' night, and the Giants season thus far as a whole, could largely be defined by a pair of individual moments within the back-and-forth affair. The first occurred in the third quarter, when the second-year quarterback bolted upfield from the pocket and appeared to have a clear path to a touchdown before tripping himself up at the Eagles' eight-yard line. While New York would ultimately score on that drive, Jones then saw his defense give up a pair of touchdowns to Carson Wentz and teammates on consecutive possessions in the fourth quarter, and he then lost control of the ball on a sack with 21 seconds left while trying to drive the Giants into field-goal range down by a point. Jones also has his triumphant moments in the form of touchdown passes to Golden Tate and the returning Sterling Shepard (toe) in the first and fourth quarters, respectively, but his late miscue snuffed out any hopes of a victory. The 2019 first-round pick will now look to regroup and prepare for a tough Week 8 Monday night showdown
Oct 18, 2020
Modest numbers in win
Jones completed 12 of 19 passes for 112 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Giants' 20-19 win over the Washington Football Team on Sunday. He also rushed seven times for 74 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones' final numbers tell the tale of yet another underwhelming performance for the Giants' air attack, but the second-year quarterback was at least able to keep his mistakes to a minimum and also took just one sack. Jones' one touchdown pass came on an impressive throw in the left corner of the end zone to Darius Slayton, a 23-yard scoring toss that extended New York's lead to two possessions late in the first quarter. That served as the highlight of the afternoon for Jones, however, who's disappointed fantasy managers by not coming close to eclipsing the 279-yard effort he mustered in Week 1 against the Steelers. With a forgettable 2:5 TD:INT on the season, Jones will look to give a significant boost to his numbers at the expense of the Eagles in a Thursday night Week 7 matchup.
Oct 11, 2020
Comes up short in Dallas
Jones completed 20 of 33 passes for 222 yards with zero touchdowns or interceptions in Sunday's 37-34 loss to the Cowboys. He recorded minus-seven rushing yards on two carries, and threw a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
The second-year QB appeared headed for a big day after the Giants jumped out to a 17-3 lead early in the second quarter, but Jones lost a fumble on a DeMarcus Lawrence sack five minutes before halftime that was returned for a Dallas TD, and he wasn't able to sustain much offensive momentum after that in the face of increasing pressure from the Cowboys' pass rush. Jones has now failed to throw a touchdown pass in four straight games, making him a very risky fantasy option in Week 6 when the Giants host Washington.
Oct 4, 2020
Stifled by Rams
Jones completed 23 of 36 passes for 190 yards and an interception in Sunday's 17-9 loss to the Rams. He also gained 45 yards on six carries.
ANALYSIS
On a day when the Giants' defense played well, Jones and the offense weren't able to take advantage. The second-year QB was sacked five times, and he was able to complete only one pass over 20 yards as he got little time in the pocket to let routes develop. Jones now has a miserable 2:5 TD:INT through four games, but his numbers could get healthier in Week 5 against a Cowboys defense that just surrendered 49 points to the Browns.
Sep 27, 2020
Underwhelms in Week 3 loss
Jones completed 17 of 32 passes for 179 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed five times for 49 yards in the Giants' 36-9 loss to the 49ers on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
As his final numbers indicate, Jones' day through the air was extremely pedestrian, even while facing a considerably short-handed 49ers defense. The second-year signal-caller naturally seemed to be affected by the absence of both Saquon Barkley (knee) and Sterling Shepard (toe), and although he connected with eight pass catchers, none managed to garner more than five receptions (Golden Tate) or 53 receiving yards (Darius Slayton). Through three games, Jones has seen his completion percentage drop with each contest, and he's now gone back-to-back games without throwing a touchdown pass. The Duke product will look to bounce back in a tough Week 4 road matchup versus the Rams, but without Barkley and Shepard, he'll continue to operate with a truncated arsenal of offensive weapons.
Sep 20, 2020
Tough loss to Bears
Jones completed 25 of 40 passes for 241 yards, no touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Bears. He also gained 21 yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
Jones was strip-sacked on the opening drive, went three-and-out on the following drive and threw a pick on his third drive. The Giants entered the locker room scoreless at halftime, with Jones posting just 73 passing yards. He started to get rolling toward the end of the third quarter and nearly salvaged the otherwise ugly showing with a last-second TD drive, but Golden Tate was called for offensive pass interference in the end zone, marking the end of the game. It was an unfortunate outing after the second-year QB showed some promise in Week 1 against the Steelers. However, the bigger storyline may be RB Saquon Barkley potentially tearing his ACL. If that's the case, Jones will carry a heavy burden in Week 3 against the 49ers.
Sep 14, 2020
Throws costly pick in loss
Jones completed 26 of 41 passes for 279 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Monday night's 26-16 loss to the Steelers. He also rushed four times for 22 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jones was inconsistent Monday, showing promise at times while disappointing at others. In terms of positives, Jones picked up where he left off with fellow second-year Giant Darius Slayton, who he not only threw a 41-yard touchdown to early, but also a seven-yard score late. However, following the opening TD, Jones' next throw was intercepted at the line of scrimmage, setting up an easy ensuing Steelers score. Then, after stringing together a 19-play drive featuring his arm and legs to begin the third quarter, Jones threw a horrendous interception in the end zone, bringing an otherwise-encouraging series to a screeching halt. Much like his rookie season, Monday's display from Jones had its highs and lows, so he'll continue to aim for more stable success in Week 2 versus the Bears.
Aug 21, 2020
Gains nine pounds of muscle
Jones showed up in camp at 229 pounds, up from last year's 220, after working out and putting on extra muscle, ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones also worked to reduce his league-leading 18 fumbles and held players-only throwing sessions this spring. He has a good deal of upside in Year 2, given his skills, weapons and ability to add points with his now more substantial legs.
Jun 6, 2020
Aiming to reduce fumbles
Jones is focused on reducing his fumbles and gaining strength, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones spent part of the offseason with his college coach, David Cutliffe, who is well known for working with both Peyton and Eli Manning. Cutliffe believes quarterbacks who can't maintain focus downfield under pressure are lost causes, whereas Jones lands on the other end of the spectrum, perhaps too eager to make big plays. The 23-year-old had an NFL-high 18 fumbles last year, sporting the ninth-highest sack rate (7.6 percent) while tying Ryan Fitzpatrick for the most hits taken (66) on pass plays. Jones reportedly is up near 230 pounds after being listed at 221 last season, but Cutliffe believes the more important factor for ball security will be an improvement in pocket movement. The offense surrounding Jones looks much the same as last season's, but with first-round pick Andrew Thomas stepping in at right tackle and new head coach Joe Judge bringing in Jason Garrett to run the offense. Jones showed potential as a rookie, with 24 passing touchdowns and two rushing scores in 12 starts.
Dec 20, 2019
Confirmed as Week 16 starter
Jones (ankle) will start Sunday's game at Washington.
ANALYSIS
Following a limited practice Wednesday and full participation Thursday, coach Pat Shurmur confirmed the rookie will return to the starting lineup Sunday afternoon. Jones will face a Washington defense that ranks 19th in both fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks and yards allowed per pass attempt (7.4), with the team's Week 16 injury report hinting at a matchup that's more favorable than the numbers suggest. Top pass rusher Ryan Kerrigan (calf) is on injured reserve, while starting cornerbacks Quinton Dunbar (hamstring) and Fabian Moreau (hamstring) both have been held out of practice this week.
Dec 19, 2019
Another full practice Thursday
Jones (ankle) practiced in full Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones maintained his activity level from Wednesday's session, and coach Pat Shurmur said Thursday that the rookie signal-caller "feels good" in his recovery from a high-ankle sprain, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. While the Giants haven't made an official ruling on Jones retaking the reins of the offense, it's expected to happen before week's end, which will nudge Eli Manning back to a reserve role.
Dec 18, 2019
Practices without limitations
Jones (ankle) is practicing in full Wednesday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has missed the last two weeks while recovering from a high-ankle sprain, and Wednesday's session represents his first time practicing in full since sustaining the injury. Coach Pat Shurmur said that the rookie quarterback handled "most" of the first-team reps, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com, an indication that Jones could return to the starting lineup Sunday against Washington. A final decision on Jones' availability will likely come down to whether he's able to continue handling a full workload during the week's final two practices without suffering any setbacks.
Dec 18, 2019
Working with starters again
Jones (ankle) is working with the starters at Wednesday's practice, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones worked with the second unit at the same point last week; a clear suggestion that the Giants expected Eli Manning to get the Week 15 start. We now have another hint that Jones could return to the lineup for Sunday's game at Washington, after coach Pat Shurmur said Monday that the Giants tentatively expect their rookie quarterback to play. It remains to be seen if Jones is a limited or full participant in Wednesday's practice.
Dec 16, 2019
Eyeing Week 16 return
Coach Pat Shurmur said Monday that the Giants will proceed with the expectation that Jones (ankle) will be ready to start Week 16 in Washington, but a decision on the rookie's status will be made based on how he progresses as the week rolls along, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports. "We'll just have to see. We'll just push him along like we did last week. We started [last] week with the idea he might be ready to play. We'll do the same this week."
ANALYSIS
In other words, the Giants aren't viewing Jones as a shutdown candidate, even with the team sitting at 3-11 and having little to gain by rushing the rookie first-round pick back into action. Jones never advanced beyond limited participation in practice last week before being ruled out two days ahead of Sunday's win over the Dolphins, so he'll probably need to put in a full workout or two during the current week for the Giants to sign off on his availability. Per Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record, Shurmur said Monday that it would be "overthinking it a little bit" for the Giants to give the third option on the depth chart, Alex Tanney, work under center for either of the final two games, so Eli Manning would be in position for a third straight start if Jones fails to gain clearance this weekend.
Dec 13, 2019
Won't play this week
Jones (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant, but he never seemed to have much chance of avoiding a Week 15 absence. Eli Manning will get another start, while Jones will aim to return for Week 16 at Washington.
Dec 12, 2019
Still limited at practice
Jones (ankle) remained limited at practice Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York,Eli Manning seems likely to draw another start at QB on Sunday against the Dolphins, but the Giants are not yet ready to dismiss the possibility that Jones could be medically cleared in advance of the contest. Look for added clarity on that front no later than Friday, when the team's final Week 15 injury report is issued.
Dec 11, 2019
Limited in Wednesday's practice
Jones (ankle) is practicing in a limited capacity Wednesday, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants are hosting a jog-through practice Wednesday, but it's nonetheless encouraging to see Jones taking reps after not being able to practice in any capacity last week. That said, veteran quarterback Eli Manning is working as the starter ahead of Jones, who appears on track to miss another contest while nursing a high-ankle sprain. Coach Pat Shurmur acknowledged that the rookie could suit up as the backup quarterback during Sunday's tilt against the Dolphins, according to Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York, but he added that such a scenario is unlikely.
Dec 11, 2019
Working with backups at practice
Jones (ankle) is participating in the media-access portion of Wednesday's practice, taking snaps from the backup center, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's an early hint that Jones is tentatively expected to miss another game, though his presence at practice is a clear step forward and does open up the possibility of a return for Sunday's matchup with the Dolphins. Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York notes that Jones is moving around well at practice, with no obvious sign of ill effects from the high ankle sprain he suffered during a Week 13 loss to the Packers. The rookie is likely to be listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's injury report.
Dec 10, 2019
Status remains uncertain
Coach Pat Shurmur is unsure whether Jones (ankle) or Eli Manning will be under center Sunday against the Dolphins, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports. "If Daniel can't go, Eli will start," Shurmur said Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Jones yielded the top spot to Manning on Monday at Philadelphia due what Shurmur initially termed a "moderate" high-ankle sprain. Manning proceeded to flash but ultimately was unable to pull out a win, completing 15 of 30 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns. As part of his decision-making process, Shurmur will wait and see how Jones moves about this week, perhaps intimating that an appearance at practice is possible. According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, Shurmur denied a report that Jones will miss 2-to-4 weeks, leaving this QB situation up in the air.
Dec 7, 2019
Out as predicted
Jones (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of Monday's contest against the Eagles, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While Jones is evidently out of his walking boot according to Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record, it seemed unlikely even earlier in the week that the rookie quarterback would make Monday's prime-time start. As a result, Eli Manning will take over behind center, but the veteran quarterback will be surprisingly missing his star tight end, Evan Engram (foot), who was also ruled out ahead of the aforementioned contest.
Dec 6, 2019
Likely out for MNF
Jones (ankle) will not practice Friday and is, according to head coach Pat Shurmur, "very likely to miss" Monday's game against the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Jones' status for Monday's game has been in doubt all week, and Shurmur's comments Friday morning increase the likelihood he will be unavailable. The Giants have more day of practice this week and may wait to rule Jones out, but it's looking more likely Eli Manning will be back under center Monday night.
Dec 5, 2019
Not practicing, still in boot
Jones (ankle) was spotted in a walking boot at Thursday's practice and won't participate in the session, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Instead, Jones was spotted doing some core exercises on a side field under the supervision of team trainers, allowing Eli Manning to handle the first-team reps in the Giants' second practice of Week 14. With coach Pat Shurmur admitting that Jones' moderate high-ankle sprain will likely keep the rookie sidelined for Monday's contest in Philadelphia, Manning is in store to make his first start -- and on track for his first game reps of any kind -- since Week 2. Expect the Giants to officially rule Jones out for Week 14 at the conclusion of Friday's practice.
Dec 4, 2019
Recovery to be taken 'week to week'
Coach Pat Shurmur said Wednesday that the Giants will take Jones' recovery from a "moderate" high-ankle sprain "week to week," Michael Eisen of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
What was termed a sore ankle prior to Monday's MRI now threatens Jones' ability to suit up Monday at Philadelphia and potentially beyond that point. While the rookie signal-caller hasn't been ruled out yet for Week 14, Shurmur is preparing as if Eli Manning will be the starter. Shurmur noted Jones' sprain isn't as severe as the one suffered by Saquon Barkley earlier this season, which caused the stud running back to sit out three games. Still, Jones' return to action will be determined by his rehabilitation, and when healthy, he'll resume his role as the Giants' No. 1 QB.
Dec 4, 2019
Appears doubtful for Week 14
Jones isn't expected to play in Monday's game against the Eagles, as he's dealing with a high ankle sprain of moderate severity, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones continued playing after he suffered the injury during the second quarter of Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Packers, finishing with 240 passing yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He's wearing a protective boot over the injured foot Wednesday, with the expectation of missing at least one game. Eli Manning thus figures to get the start Monday night in Philadelphia.
Dec 2, 2019
Tending to sore ankle
Coach Pat Shurmur said that Jones is dealing with a sore ankle in the aftermath of Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Packers, but he expects the rookie signal-caller to be "fine" for the Week 14 matchup with the Eagles, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was examined by the training staff after twisting his ankle on a fourth-down run in the second quarter, but he ultimately took all 67 of the Giants' offensive snaps en route to finishing the day with 20 completions for 240 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions across 37 attempts. Shurmur noted that Jones won't require further tests on the ankle, so there doesn't seem to be much concern about the quarterback's ability to suit up against the Eagles on Monday Night Football. That said, Jones' reps could be managed leading up to the contest, so it bears checking back on his status Thursday, when the Giants release their first practice report of Week 14.
