Isaac Guerendo Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Panthers vs 49ers game on Monday with our National Football League injury report.Oct 29, 2025
No run on offense this season
Guerendo played all 10 of his snaps on special teams in Sunday's 26-15 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
As a rookie last season, Guerendo showcased some explosiveness out of the San Francisco backfield with averages of 5.0 yards per carry and 10.1 yards per reception over 16 games, but he has yet to play a snap on offense in the 49ers' first eight games of 2025. With lead back Christian McCaffrey having thus far stayed healthy while handling huge snap and touch counts each week, Brian Robinson has picked up the remaining scraps left over in the backfield. So long as McCaffrey and Robinson are able to avoid injury, Guerendo looks as though he'll be limited to a role on kickoff returns and kick-coverage units.
Oct 3, 2025
Returns one kickoff Thursday
Guerendo ran back one kickoff for 18 yards while receiving no carries or targets in Thursday's 26-23 overtime win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Christian McCaffrey continued to operate as San Francisco's bell cow (88 percent) while Brian Robinson (14 percent) remained the clear No. 2, which leaves Guerendo parked in the garage when the team is on offense. The 2024 fourth-round selection is stuck on special teams for the foreseeable future, needing an injury to open up playing time ahead of him on the depth chart. Guerendo generates no fantasy value in his current role when the 49ers visit the Buccaneers in Week 6.
Sep 29, 2025
Logs 14 snaps on special teams
Guerendo logged 14 snaps on special teams and was not used on offense in Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo couldn't even make an appearance in the box score as a return man after WR Skyy Moore handled all punt and kick returns Sunday. The 25-year-old Guerendo has logged zero snaps on offense through four games this season, leaving no room for fantasy utility as we encroach the quarter point of the season. Managers should have no concerns leaving Guerendo in the free agent pool for Thursday's tilt against the Rams.
Sep 22, 2025
Stuck on special teams
Guerendo did not receive a carry while gaining 19 yards on a kickoff return in Sunday's 16-15 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo continued to be used exclusively on special teams, logging all 15 of his snaps there Sunday. Brian Robinson was the only running back to receive any carries outside of starter Christian McCaffrey. Guerendo carries no fantasy value heading into a Week 4 matchup against Jacksonville.
Sep 15, 2025
No carries in Week 2 win
Guerendo returned two kickoffs for 47 yards and was not used on offense in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo failed to see the field on offense Sunday, logging all 17 of his snaps on special teams. Veteran backup Brian Robinson continues to handle all of the touches starter Christian McCaffrey doesn't gobble up on game days. More of the same can be expected against the Cardinals in Week 3, leaving Guerendo off the fantasy radar until an injury opens up playing time for the sophomore.
Sep 8, 2025
Limited to special teams
Guerendo played 15 snaps on special teams and did not receive a carry in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
The good news for Guerendo was that he was fully cleared from the shoulder injury that limited him in camp. That bad news for the sophomore tailback is that new addition Brian Robinson usurped him on the depth chart. Guerendo dropped to third in the pecking order and was limited to special teams, returning one kickoff for 16 yards. In his current role, Guerendo provides no fantasy utility heading into next Sunday's tilt against the Saints.
Sep 3, 2025
Full practice Wednesday
Guerendo (shoulder) practiced fully Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo exited practice on Aug. 2 due to a shoulder injury and sat out the next two-and-a-half weeks, only to be healthy enough to play in the 49ers' preseason finale Aug. 23 and turn eight carries into 13 yards and one catch (on one target) into one yard. In the midst of it all, the team traded for Commanders RB Brian Robinson, placing Guerendo's status into question heading into Week 1. Even though Guerendo has a clean bill of health in advance of Sunday's contest at Seattle, he may play third fiddle out of San Francisco's backfield to starter Christian McCaffrey and Robinson.
Aug 24, 2025
Playing through shoulder inury
Guerendo (shoulder) rushed the ball eight times for 13 yards in Saturday's 30-23 preseason win over the Chargers. He added one reception on one target for one yard.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo started the game with Christian McCaffrey resting and Brian Robinson not yet officially with the team. Per Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, Guerendo appeared to aggravate the shoulder injury he suffered earlier in camp in the first quarter and was wearing a brace as protection. Positively, he was able to return to the game, so it appears as though he'll be available for San Francisco's Week 1 matchup against Seattle -- albeit with an unclear role.
Aug 22, 2025
Facing competition from Robinson
Guerendo may open the season as San Francisco's No. 2 running back even though the team is trading for Brian Robinson, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
The 49ers presumably wouldn't trade for Robinson, even at the cost of just a sixth-round pick, unless they thought he could become their No. 2 running back. That doesn't mean he'll simply be handed the gig, however, nor does it mean he'll be comfortable with the playbook in time for Week 1 at Seattle. Still, the trade takes a chunk out of Guerendo's fantasy value, adding another legitimate competitor for backup roles after the Niners drafted Jordan James (finger) in the fifth round this spring. Guerendo is the fastest and most athletic of the bunch, but his injury history dating back to college is concerning, to say the least.
Aug 19, 2025
Returns to practice
Guerendo (shoulder) participated in Tuesday's training camp practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo suffered a shoulder injury in practice in early August, which caused him to miss the 49ers' two preseason games. He was back on the field Tuesday and was given the green light to participate in team drills, and Wagoner relays that Guerendo was heavily involved with the offense and on special teams as a kick returner. Barring any setbacks, the 2024 fourth-rounder is on track to be available for Saturday's preseason finale against the Chargers.
Aug 4, 2025
Out for a few weeks
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Guerendo (shoulder) is expected to miss a couple weeks, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo made an early exit from Saturday's practice and apparently won't be back for a while. It sounds like he has a shot to be ready for Week 1, but a preseason appearance probably isn't in the cards. Guerendo's absence could give rookie Jordan James more opportunities to mix in with the first-team offense, especially on days when Christian McCaffrey is rested.
Aug 2, 2025
Exits practice with apparent injury
Guerendo had an early departure from practice Saturday due to an apparent shoulder injury, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The possible injury occurred during special-teams drills. It's not yet clear how severe the issue may be, though that should become more evident once 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan chimes in and/or based on Guerendo's practice status in the days ahead. Guerendo is the favorite to work as San Francisco's No. 2 running back this season and should also see action as a kick returner.
Jun 6, 2025
On field for OTAs
Guerendo (knee/ankle) was an active participant at voluntary OTAs, per the 49ers' official site.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo sustained MCL and ankle sprains in his left leg during San Francisco's regular-season finale, but the 2024 fourth-round pick appears back to full health ahead of mandatory minicamp, which will take place June 10-11. Christian McCaffrey also looks fully healthy after having been limited to four appearances in 2024, which leaves Guerendo competing for No. 2 reps entering Year 2. The 49ers saw fit to trade Jordan Mason to Minnesota this offseason and let Elijah Mitchell link up with the Chiefs in free agency, though the team did re-sign Patrick Taylor and select Jordan James in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Guerendo's combo of athleticism and explosiveness makes him a high upside backup to McCaffrey, but injuries have been a consistent roadblock for him dating back to college.
Jan 6, 2025
Has MCL, ankle sprains
Guerendo has been diagnosed with MCL and ankle sprains in his left leg following an MRI on Monday, but he didn't damage the ACL in his left knee during Sunday's loss at Arizona, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 49ers' 2024 campaign is over, but the team's season finale included yet another RB injury. On only his second carry of Sunday's game, Guerendo had his left leg twisted under him as he was tackled, and he needed a cart to go to the locker room. He thus is one of four San Francisco running backs to enter the offseason focusing on rehab. The others are Christian McCaffrey (knee), Jordan Mason (ankle) and Elijah Mitchell (hamstring). Guerendo, a 2024 fourth-round pick, proved to be effective when given the chance as a rookie, turning 84 carries into 420 yards (5.0 YPC) and four touchdowns and hauling in 15 of 16 targets for 152 yards in 16 appearances.
Jan 5, 2025
MCL sprain likely, tests upcoming
Coach Kyle Shanahan said after Sunday's 47-24 loss to the Cardinals that Guerendo (knee/ankle) likely suffered an MCL sprain and will undergo further testing Monday, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo suffered knee and ankle injuries, with the knee injury likely to be an MCL sprain. The results of Monday's tests should help provide clarification on the recovery timeline for Guerendo. The 49ers' season came to a close with Sunday's defeat in the regular-season finale.
Jan 5, 2025
Won't return Sunday
Guerendo won't return to Sunday's game at Arizona due to knee and ankle injuries.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo had his left leg twisted under him on his second carry of the game, and his teammates quickly motioned to the sideline for assistance. He eventually was carted off the field and ruled out not long after. With Guerendo unavailable, the 49ers will entrust the run game in Patrick Taylor and FB Kyle Juszczyk for the rest of their season finale.
Dec 31, 2024
Nets 99 yards in return
Guerendo took nine carries for 34 yards while bringing in all four targets for 65 receiving yards in Monday's 40-34 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo made a successful return from a one-game layoff due to foot and hamstring injuries in Week 17. The fourth-round rookie look no worse for wear, generating 99 yards from scrimmage in a pass-heavy game plan. The only negative aspect of Guerendo's fantasy line was a lack of trips to the end zone after quarterbacks Brock Purdy (elbow) and Joshua Dobbs vultured a pair of short touchdown rushes. Guerendo may find himself more involved as a rusher if San Francisco's injured starting QB is unable to suit up against the Cardinals on Sunday.
Dec 28, 2024
Clear to return in Week 17
Guerendo (foot/hamstring) doesn't have a designation for Monday's game versus the Lions, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo managed limited practices Thursday and Friday due to foot and hamstring injuries that sidelined him last Sunday in Miami. Adam Schefter of ESPN then reported Saturday afternoon that Guerendo was expected to play Week 17, which now is a formality following comments from coach Kyle Shanahan. Guerendo thus will pace the 49ers backfield Monday after doing so Weeks 14 and 15, when he combined for 37 touches for 203 total yards and two rushing TDs.
Dec 28, 2024
Week 17 return expected
Guerendo (foot/hamstring) is expected to play Monday against the Lions, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 49ers have yet to post their final Week 17 injury report, but he seems destined to be listed as questionable considering he was limited in practice Thursday and Friday due to the foot and hamstring issues that sidelined him Week 16 at Miami. Assuming he's able to suit up Monday, he should take on the lead role out of San Francisco's backfield, which amounted to 37 touches for 203 yards from scrimmage and two rushing TDs between Weeks 14 and 15.
Dec 27, 2024
Another limited session
Guerendo (foot/hamstring) practiced in a limited capacity Friday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo now has managed back-to-back capped sessions to kick off Week 17 prep as he looks to put foot and hamstring injuries further in the rearview mirror. He sat out the 49ers' Week 16 loss at Miami due to the health concerns, and Saturday's practice report may provide a sense of his odds to return to action Monday against the Lions. If he's cleared for that contest, Guerendo likely will slot back in as the 49ers' lead runner over Patrick Taylor.
Dec 26, 2024
To be limited Thursday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Guerendo (foot/hamstring) will be limited at Thursday's practice, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
As Shanahan projected Monday, Guerendo is returning to the practice field for the first time since Week 15 prep, which is a good sign after he sat out Week 16 in Miami due to foot and hamstring injuries. If Guerendo is able to make it through the week unscathed and suit up Monday against the Lions, he'd provide a boost for a 49ers backfield that will be without Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Jordan Mason (ankle) in Week 17.
Dec 23, 2024
Likely to practice Thursday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that the 49ers expect Guerendo (foot/hamstring) to practice Thursday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo emerged from a Week 15 loss to the Rams with foot and hamstring injuries that ultimately kept him off the practice field last week and out for Sunday's defeat at Miami. In Guerendo's place Week 16, Patrick Taylor got the start at running back and played 51 of 64 offensive snaps, but he mustered just 25 yards from scrimmage on nine touches. Meanwhile, Deebo Samuel moonlighted with five carries for 25 yards, and fullback Kyle Juszczyk also had two touches for 26 total yards. Guerendo's return to the field Thursday will be accompanied with a corresponding listing on the injury report, so a limited or even full showing will be an encouraging sign for the 49ers backfield.
Dec 20, 2024
Ruled out for Week 16
Guerendo (foot/hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game at Miami, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo didn't practice this week and thus appears in danger of missing time beyond Sunday. His absence leaves Patrick Taylor and Israel Abanikanda atop the depth chart at running back, with Ke'Shawn Vaughn likely to be elevated from the practice squad before Sunday. Taylor filled in as the lead back when Guerendo missed a chunk of San Francisco's Week 14 game with a foot injury, but that doesn't necessarily mean Taylor will dominate carries Sunday afternoon with more time to prepare for Guerendo's absence.
Dec 19, 2024
Trending in wrong direction
The 49ers are not expected to have Guerendo (hamstring) available for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo missed Wednesday's practice session due to a new hamstring injury, and Schefter's reporting makes it seem as though he'll be officially listed as a non-participant again Thursday. The rookie fourth-round pick managed to play through a foot sprain during last Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Rams, in which he rushed 16 times for 57 yards and brought in all four targets for 18 yards, handling all of San Francisco's running back touches. Head coach Kyle Shanahan hasn't yet commented on Guerendo's status for Week 16, but if he's indeed sidelined on the road against Miami, Patrick Taylor, Israel Abanikanda and practice-squad player Ke'Shawn Vaughn will be next up for backfield reps.
Dec 18, 2024
Sidelined with hamstring injury
Guerendo (hamstring) will not practice Wednesday, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo managed to play through a foot injury and suit up for last Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Rams, but he's emerged from the contest nursing a new issue. With Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Jordan Mason (ankle) both on IR, the 49ers could realistically just be taking a cautious approach to Guerendo's health, but his status will now need to be carefully monitored in practice Thursday and Friday. Patrick Taylor and Israel Abanikanda, plus practice-squad man Ke'Shawn Vaughn, are San Francisco's top backfield options behind Guerendo heading into a road matchup against the Dolphins on Sunday.
Dec 12, 2024
Garners 75 total yards in loss
Guerendo rushed 16 times for 57 yards and brought in all four targets for 18 yards in the 49ers' 12-6 loss to the Rams on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo overcame the foot sprain he'd suffered in the Week 14 win over the Bears on Sunday to suit up and handle all of San Francisco's running back touches. However, the rookie surprisingly found some tough sledding against a Rams defense that had been beatable on the ground at times. Nevertheless, Guerendo impressively handled a solid workload in wet conditions and finished as the co-leader in receptions as well, and he'll have a secure fantasy floor as the clear lead back when the 49ers travel to face the Dolphins on Sunday, Dec. 22.
Dec 12, 2024
Active in Week 15
Guerendo (foot) is listed as active Thursday against the Rams, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo came out of this past Sunday's win versus the Bears with a sprained foot, which left his status for Week 15 up in the air. He wasn't able to practice until Wednesday, when he was listed as limited, and both Adam Schefter of ESPN and Matt Barrows of The Athletic reported at different points Thursday that Guerendo felt good following that session and intended to play. Indeed, that has come to pass, but it remains to be seen if Guerendo will handle the majority of backfield reps for the 49ers. Patrick Taylor and Ke'Shawn Vaughn also are on hand for work at running back.
Dec 12, 2024
Planning to play through sprained foot
Guerendo (foot) remains listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Rams but insists he "feels good" and plans to play, sources tell Adam Schefter of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
After Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Jordan Mason (ankle) were moved to injured reserve last week, Guerendo stepped in as the 49ers' starting running back in this past Sunday's 38-13 win over the Bears. He turned in a big performance, rushing 15 times for 78 yards and two scores while chipping in two catches for 50 yards before exiting late in the contest with a sprained foot. The 49ers listed Guerendo as a non-participant on injury reports released Monday and Tuesday, but after upgrading to limited activity in Wednesday's walk-through session, the rookie looks like he could be tracking toward playing against the Rams. Official word on Guerendo's status will come when the 49ers release their inactive list 90 minutes before Thursday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, but even if he's cleared to play, the 49ers could aim to limit his workload on a short week. Patrick Taylor and Israel Abanikanda are already on the roster as backup options behind Guerendo, and the 49ers could also elevate Ke'Shawn Vaughn from the practice
Dec 11, 2024
Status in question for Thursday
Guerendo (foot) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game versus the Rams, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite operating on a short week between games, the 49ers are keeping the door open for Guerendo to suit up Week 15 following the foot sprain that forced him out of the fourth quarter of this past Sunday's win against the Bears. He was a listed DNP on both Monday and Tuesday. If he's unable to go Thursday, Guerendo will hand off San Fransisco's backfield to Patrick Taylor, with Israel Abanikanda and practice-squad member Ke'Shawn Vaughn available behind him.
Dec 10, 2024
Misses another practice
Guerendo (foot) won't participate in Tuesday's walk-through practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo will go down as a non-participant on the 49ers' second injury report of the week. With the 49ers facing a quick turnaround from Sunday's win over the Bears with a Thursday night matchup with the Rams, the rookie running back looks like he may be facing an uphill battle to gain clearance after exiting the Week 14 contest with a sprained foot. Before departing with the injury, Guerendo showed well in his first NFL start, carrying 15 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns to go with two catches for 50 yards. If the Louisville product ends up missing Thursday's game, Patrick Taylor, Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Israel Abanikanda would represent the 49ers' available options at running back.
Dec 9, 2024
Listed as DNP on Monday
Guerendo (foot) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated injury report, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo's first career start Sunday against the Bears was fruitful until he exited in the fourth quarter due to a foot injury. Prior to his departure, he notched 128 yards from scrimmage and two rushing TDs on 17 touches. Coach Kyle Shanahan revealed the nature of the injury Monday, calling it a sprain and the running back day-to-day, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. Shanahan also told Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site that the team will "evaluate him over the next few days and see if he's got a shot" to play Thursday against the Rams. If Guerendo ultimately isn't able to go Week 15, he'll pass off the backfield to Patrick Taylor, while Israel Abanikanda (inactive Week 14) and practice-squad member Ke'Shawn Vaughn (two carries for four yards Sunday) will be the reserve options.
Dec 9, 2024
Diagnosed with foot sprain
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Guerendo has been diagnosed with a foot sprain and will be considered day-to-day heading into Thursday's game against the Rams, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shanahan said that the team will "evaluate [Guerendo] over the next few days, to see if he'll have a shot" to suit up for Thursday Night Football, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Before exiting Sunday's 38-13 win over the Bears in the fourth quarter, Guerendo compiled 128 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns while operating as San Francisco's lead backfield option. In the event that Guerendo isn't able to play Thursday, Patrick Taylor will be the next man up at running back, with Christian McCaffrey (knee), Jordan Mason (ankle) and Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) all on IR. The 49ers also have Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Israel Abanikanda available behind Taylor.
Dec 8, 2024
May have foot sprain
Coach Kyle Shanahan said after Sunday's 38-13 win over the Bears that Guerendo has a possible foot sprain, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo exited in the fourth quarter due to a foot injury after compiling 128 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. If Guerendo joins Christian McCaffrey (knee), Jordan Mason (ankle) and Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) on the sidelines Thursday against the Rams, Patrick Taylor would be the next man up in a 49ers backfield that also includes Ke'Shawn Vaughn and Israel Abanikanda. A potential return timeline for Guerendo has yet to be established.
Dec 8, 2024
Hurts foot after scoring two TDs
Guerendo (foot) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Bears. He rushed 15 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns while catching both of his targets for 50 yards prior to the injury.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo went to the locker room in the fourth quarter, and he's likely done for the day with the 49ers holding onto a comfortable lead. Prior to the injury, Guerendo excelled in the lead role as San Francisco worked without Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Jordan Mason (ankle), who are both on IR. Patrick Taylor will help the 49ers run out the clock. Guerendo will need to heal up quickly to be ready to face the Rams on Thursday in Week 15.
Dec 2, 2024
In line for RB1 duties
With Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Jordan Mason (ankle) in line to be placed on injured reserve, Guerendo is expected to take over as the 49ers' starting running back, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
McCaffrey will miss at least the remainder of the regular season with his sprained PCL, and Mason is dealing with a high-ankle sprain. The injuries vault Guerendo to the top of the depth chart. The rookie has seen limited work as a rookie this season, but he's averaged a crisp 5.9 yards per carry on his 42 totes, turning them into 246 yards and two touchdowns. He's added five catches for 19 yards on six targets. Guerendo is a size-speed specimen at 6-foot and 221 pounds with a 4.33 forty-yard dash time. He will be the top waiver-wire priority in fantasy leagues this week.
Dec 2, 2024
Rips off 15-yard touchdown
Guerendo took four carries for 19 yards and a touchdown while losing three yards on his only reception in Sunday's 35-10 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo got some extra run in the second half after starter Christian McCaffrey (knee) left the game due to injury at halftime. Jordan Mason (13-78-0) took over as the primary rusher from there on out, but Guerendo benefited from scoring the 49ers' only offensive touchdown in the blowout loss. Mason is the name to grab on waivers this week, but he showed some durability issues handling the starter's role earlier this season in addition to being evaluated for a concussion against Buffalo. Guerendo is more of a stash option for next Sunday's tilt against the Bears, but he carries some appeal for those in deeper leagues with CMC likely done for the year.
Nov 11, 2024
Resumes No. 3 role
Guerendo had one carry for zero yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
With star tailback Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) returning to action and backup Jordan Mason (shoulder) healthy, Guerendo was relegated to third on San Francisco's depth chart. The rookie logged just three snaps on offense (five percent) while taking his only touch for no gain. Guerendo produced a pair of strong fantasy performances in the weeks covering for his injured teammates, but managers can safely move on from the Louisville product in such a reduced role.
Oct 28, 2024
Steps in for injured starter again
Guerendo rushed 14 times for 85 yards and a touchdown while securing three of four targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 30-24 win over Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo was elevated to starter mid-game after Jordan Mason (shoulder) aggravated a nagging AC joint injury early in the contest. The 24-year-old Guerendo performed as he did the last time this scenario unfolded, which is one of the reason's the rookie was pegged a deep sleeper heading into drafts this year. The downside from a fantasy perspective is that San Francisco will observe its bye this upcoming week, and star running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) has a shot at returning in Week 10 against Tampa Bay. Guerendo still is worth looking at if he was dropped prior to Mason's activation Sunday, but be aware of CMC's status come Nov. 10.
Oct 20, 2024
Takes back seat with starter active
Guerendo rushed once for two yards and caught his only target for five yards in Sunday's 28-18 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo was coming off of his best game as a pro last week (10-99-0), but the rookie took a back seat to Jordan Mason (shoulder) who was able to suit up after suffering a sprained AC joint against the Seahawks in Week 6. The 24-year-old Guerendo saw just two touches when the dust settled from Sunday's loss, fumbling on his lone carry despite not losing possession. With Mason handling his usual workload and Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) nearing a return, it appears that Guerendo can safely be returned to the waiver wire ahead of next Sunday's tilt against the Cowboys.
Oct 11, 2024
Impressive in expanded role
Guerendo rushed 10 times for 99 yards in the 49ers' 36-24 win over the Seahawks on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The rookie saw the most robust volume of his young career in the victory, as Jordan Mason's multiple exits from the game due to a shoulder injury left Guerendo as the lead back for all but one play in the second half. Guerendo had scuffled to just 23 yards on nine carries when he took the handoff on the opening play of the 49ers' final possession, a play on which he broke off a 76-yard run up the right side of the field that he nearly scored on. The rookie fourth-round pick was caught from behind but made sure his momentum didn't carry him into the end zone as he went down, forcing the Seahawks to burn two timeouts before Kyle Juszczyk scored a game-sealing six-yard touchdown. San Francisco has 10 days before a Super Bowl rematch with the Chiefs on Sunday, Oct. 20, but if neither Mason nor Christian McCaffrey (Achilles/calf) is able to suit up for that contest, Guerendo would be in line to serve as San Francisco's No. 1 back for that marquee battle.
Oct 7, 2024
Season high 22 yards
Guerendo rushed five times for 22 yards and was not targeted as a receiver in Sunday's 24-23 loss to Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo backed up Jordan Mason (14-89-0) as the rookie had been through the previous four games this season. The 24-year-old Guerendo produced his highest rushing total of his young career while returning a kick for 32 yards in the upset loss. There isn't enough volume currently for the Louisville product to warrant fantasy consideration against the Seahawks on Thursday.
Sep 30, 2024
Fumbles lone touch on offense
Guerendo lost a fumble on his lone carry Sunday, failing to gain any yards while earning zero targets in a blowout win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo had a nightmarish game that resulted in a negative fantasy score for anyone bold enough to play the sparsely-used backup against New England. In an effort to not be too harsh on the rookie, it should be noted that he gained 23 yards on San Francisco's only kickoff return attempt Sunday. While Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) mends on IR, it would take another injury to current starter Jordan Mason to give Guerendo fantasy value in standard leagues heading into a Week 5 tilt against Arizona next Sunday.
Sep 23, 2024
Earns five carries Sunday
Guerendo rushed five times for 19 yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
The five carries marked a new high-water mark for the rookie after receiving just one carry for no gain in his first two appearances with San Francisco. Guerendo was spelling fill-in starter Jordan Mason (19-77-0) Sunday, a situation which could repeat itself against the Patriots on Sunday. The 2024 fourth-round pick only warrants fantasy consideration in the event that Mason is unable to suit up in the coming weeks.
Sep 10, 2024
No touches on 13 snaps
Guerendo (groin) suited up for Monday's season opener against the Jets but did not record a touch in the 32-19 win.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo made the 49ers' 53-man roster but was battling a groin injury heading into Week 1. The fourth-round pick out of Louisville got the green light and would up logging 10 snaps on special teams and three on offense. Starter Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) did not suit up for this contest, affording fellow backup Jordan Mason (28/147/1) to go off against the Jets. Guerendo appears to be next in line should San Francisco need a runner behind CMC or Mason this season.

Set to suit up in season opener
Guerendo (groin) practiced in full Saturday and doesn't have an injury designation for Monday's Week 1 contest against the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo was a limited participant in each of San Francisco's first two practices of the week after missing all of last week due to a groin injury. He is in line to make his NFL debut Monday, though, after returning to a full practice session Saturday. Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) is listed as questionable for the opener against the Jets but has stated that he's definitely suiting up, so Guerendo will likely see limited work in the running game behind the star tailback and backup Jordan Mason.

Remains limited
Guerendo (groin) remained limited in practice Friday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie missed most of training camp with a hamstring injury and then hurt his groin in late August a week after returning to practice. With Christian McCaffrey (calf) on track to play and Guerendo having taken very few practice reps this summer, there's not much chance of Guerendo having a significant role Week 1 even if he ends up being healthy enough to play.

Opens week as limited participant
Guerendo (groin) is practicing on a limited basis Thursday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo spent the early portion of training camp sidelined due to a hamstring injury, and he then tweaked his groin after returning for San Francisco's preseason finale. The rookie fourth-round pick will have two more chances to upgrade to full participation in practice ahead of Monday's regular-season opener against the Jets. Meanwhile, top running back Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) will also be limited Thursday, though he's expected to be available Week 1.

Tweaks groin in practice
Guerendo tweaked his groin Monday and won't practice this week, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing training camp and most of the preseason with a hamstring injury, Guerendo returned for San Francisco's final exhibition and took 13 touches for 35 yards in a 24-24 tie with the Raiders. His depth chart standing seemingly improved despite all the missed time this summer, as long-time No. 2 running back Elijah Mitchell was placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a hamstring injury that will require surgery. Jordan Mason now figures to enter Week 1 as the No. 2 back behind Christian McCaffrey, leaving Guerendo to focus on kickoff returns for the time being. Shanahan said Guerendo could be back at practice as soon as next week, meaning the rookie isn't ruled out for a Week 1 matchup with the Jets on Monday Night Football.

Healthy amount of action
Guerendo (hamstring) rushed 11 times for 32 yards and caught both of his targets for three yards in Friday's preseason tilt against Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo returned from a hamstring injury that cost the fourth-round pick two games of action this exhibition season. The Louisville product didn't post gaudy rushing numbers in his 49ers debut, but he had an electric kickoff return of 93 yards that fell just short of pay dirt. Guerendo currently sits behind veteran backups Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason on the depth chart, but the 6-foot, 221-pound rookie has the physical tools to profile as a fantasy prospect should he survive the impending roster cuts ahead the Sep. 27 deadline.

Returning to practice
Guerendo (hamstring) will retake the practice field Tuesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo's hamstring injury has sidelined him more than three weeks, but coach Kyle Shanahan said he could have a chance to make his preseason debut Friday versus the Raiders. Given that all of Christian McCaffrey (calf), Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) and Jordan Mason (hip) are currently nicked up, Guerendo seems in line to immediately face an opportunity for valuable reps in his return to the practice field. The rookie fourth-round pick seems to be competing with Mitchell, Mason, Patrick Taylor and Cody Schrader for a depth role behind McCaffrey.

Could practice this week
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Sunday he's "hopeful" Guerendo (hamstring) will be able to resume practicing this week and potentially play in Friday's preseason finale against the Raiders, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo has missed more than three weeks of training camp, including San Francisco's first two preseason games, due to a hamstring injury sustained July 24. The rookie fourth-round will be in position to receive valuable reps if he's indeed able to return this week, with all of Christian McCaffrey (calf), Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) and Jordan Mason (hip) nursing injuries of their own. Friday's exhibition matchup against the Raiders represents Guerendo's last chance to log game reps before the 49ers take on the Jets in Week 1 on Sept. 9.

Slated to miss time
Guerendo is expected to be sidelined multiple weeks due to the hamstring injury he sustained last week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Based on Schefter's report, it seems likely that the rookie fourth-rounder will be unavailable for the 49ers' preseason opener, at a minimum. Once he's back in the mix, Guerendo will compete with Jordan Mason, Patrick Taylor and Cody Schrader for backfield slotting behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell.

Injures hamstring
Guerendo (hamstring) departed Wednesday's training camp practice early, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo suffered an injury of undisclosed severity on the first day of camp, with coach Kyle Shanahan saying the team will need to evaluate his status further, per Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site. That constitutes a tough start for the rookie speedster, who is working to carve out a role behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell. Guerendo dealt with recurring soft-tissue injuries in college, so his recovery will warrant close monitoring.
