Logs one touch in loss
Ford had one carry for two yards in Sunday's 23-16 loss to Baltimore in Week 11.
ANALYSIS
In the two games following Cleveland's bye week, Ford has just one target and two carries while playing 31 snaps. It was mildly surprising that the Browns didn't trade him, given that Ford's in the final year of his contract. He currently shares the backup role with rookie Dylan Sampson.
Nov 10, 2025
Garners one touch in loss
Ford had one carry for one yard and failed to secure his lone target in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jets in Week 10.
ANALYSIS
Ford's fall behind rookie Dylan Sampson continued again, as the veteran has just two carries and three receptions (five targets) over the last three weeks. He's also fallen out of consideration for return duties, which now belong to Sampson.
Oct 27, 2025
Falls behind rookie in loss
Ford caught one of two targets for minus-1 yard in Sunday's 32-13 loss to the Patriots in Week 8.
ANALYSIS
For the second consecutive week, Ford was on the field for 13 snaps, which was fewer than Dylan Sampson (25 snaps). It was the first time this season that Ford lagged behind the rookie, a telling sign as the Browns enter a bye week followed by the NFL trade deadline (Nov. 4). A similar sign was Sampson taking over as the lead back when starter Quinshon Judkins (shoulder) was removed from the game.
Oct 20, 2025
Three touches in win
Ford had one carry for zero yards and caught both of his targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 31-6 win over the Dolphins in Week 7.
ANALYSIS
Ford was given his fewest snaps (13) and second-fewest touches in seven games. He had fewer touches than Dylan Sampson (nine snaps, four touches), who also returned two kickoffs while Ford did not. That usage on special teams may be telling. It's a change that began in Week 6, when Sampson returned five kickoffs to Ford's one. It's as if the rookie is being prepared to take over for Ford, including as the top backup to starter Quinshon Judkins. With two more weeks before the trade deadline, Ford trade rumors should increase leading up to Nov. 4.
Oct 16, 2025
Possible trade-deadline candidate
Ford is one of a few members of the Browns that could be moved before the trade deadline, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Ever since the Browns selected two running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft, it felt like Ford could be flipped at the deadline, which falls on Nov. 4, a day after Week 9 wraps. That Cleveland is 1-5 and seemingly playing for the future only cements that notion. He's primarily served as a third-down back since rookie Quinshon Judkins was established as the starter earlier this season. Lately, Dylan Sampson, a fourth-round draft pick in 2025, has rotated in with Ford, which sets up a scenario where Cleveland trades Ford and allots more playing time to Sampson.
Oct 13, 2025
Totals 30 yards from scrimmage
Ford had two carries for 17 yards and caught five of six targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 23-9 loss to the Steelers in Week 6. He also returned one kickoff for 22 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford was on the field for 33 offensive snaps -- the most since Week 2 -- and had seven touches for the second straight week. His playing time has increased the last two games, which is tied to the quarterback change from Joe Flacco to rookie Dillon Gabriel. Ford leads the running back room with 21 targets through six games and could see an uptick in rushing attempts, as the organization seeks to protect the one hopeful thing on offense: rookie running back Quinshon Judkins.
Oct 6, 2025
Uptick in offensive touches
Ford had five carries for 18 yards and caught both of his targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 21-17 loss to the Vikings in Week 5. He also returned three kickoffs for 78 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford's seven touches on offense, 38 yards from scrimmage and 116 combined yards were the most since Week 2, when he was still a factor before Quinshon Judkins became the lead running back. Cleveland's switch to rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel was the reason for Ford's increased touches. To make life easier on Gabriel, the Browns deployed a run-heavy offense and had a 50-50 split between rushes and pass attempts. They also got right tackle Jack Conklin back, which helped Cleveland amass a season-high 140 yards on the ground. Barring a Judkins injury, Ford's days as the lead back are over, but Sunday's gameplan showed how the Browns' offense can be competitive.
Oct 3, 2025
Top kick returner on depth chart
Ford is listed as the top kickoff returner on the Browns' unofficial depth chart heading into Week 5 against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Ford is set to take on a larger role Sunday when he's expected to add kick-return duties to his portfolio, replacing DeAndre Carter (knee), who was placed on the injured list following Week 4's loss to Detroit. Ford's usage as a runner is down in 2025 due to the emergence of rookie back Quinshon Judkins -- just one carry the last two weeks -- but he has served as receiving threat out of the backfield. And now with the quarterback change -- rookie Dillon Gabriel will replace veteran Joe Flacco -- and what is expected to be run-heavy offensive gameplan, Ford might reclaim some of those lost carries.
Sep 29, 2025
Snap count dropping
Ford had one carry for minus-1 yard and caught one of two targets for four yards in Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Lions in Week 4.
ANALYSIS
Ford was on the field for a season-low 18 snaps, as Cleveland's backfield is now topped by Quinshon Judkins, who had 21 of the 23 carries allotted to running backs. Ford still contributes as a third-down back and has been targeted multiple times in three consecutive contests.
Sep 21, 2025
Targeted four times in win
Ford caught all four targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 13-10 win over Green Bay in Week 3.
ANALYSIS
Ford didn't get a carry for the first time in three weeks, but he has emerged as a primary target out of the backfield. He actually caught a fifth pass, but the play was negated by a holding penalty. Ford has 10 official targets over the last two weeks and 11 for the season. That's tied with Dylan Sampson for the lead among Cleveland's running backs, but Sampson went untargeted Sunday and has just three over the last two weeks. Ford was not used in the return game after returning six kicks in Week 2.
Sep 14, 2025
Finishes with 135 all-purpose yards
Ford rushed six times for 31 yards, brought in five of six targets for 23 yards and returned four kickoffs for 81 yards in the Browns' 41-17 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Although debuting rookie Quinshon Judkins paced the ground attack with 10 rush attempts, Ford still logged two more carries than Dylan Sampson, who'd garnered more work than the veteran in Week 1. Ford also tied Harold Fannin for the team lead in receptions, and he filled the role of primary kickoff returner. Judkins' role figures to only grow moving forward, however, so how long Ford can remain truly relevant in the offense of a non-contending team while also navigating Sampson's presence remains to be seen.
Sep 7, 2025
Works behind Sampson
Ford rushed the ball six times for eight yards in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Bengals. He added one reception on one target for -3 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford was expected to serve as Cleveland's lead back, but he was instead out-touched 20-7 by Dylan Sampson. Ford didn't help himself with his opportunity, as he averaged only 1.3 yards per attempt, with his longest gain on the ground going for only two yards. Things aren't likely to get better for Ford moving forward, as Quinshon Judkins is expected to join the backfield as soon as Week 2 against Baltimore.
Sep 1, 2025
Positioned to lead backfield early
Ford is expected to operate in a workhorse role Week 1 versus the Bengals on Sunday, Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford led the Browns in rushing last year, albeit with just 565 yards across 14 regular-season games, and he now looks set for a lead back role at home versus Cincinnati on Sunday, while rookie fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson operates as a change-of-pace back. Cleveland also claimed undrafted rookie Raheim Sanders off waivers last week, who at 6-foot, 230 pounds could contribute in short-yardage situations. Cabot reports that 2025 second-round pick Quinshon Judkins, who hasn't yet signed his rookie deal, could join the Browns soon, so there are considerable avenues for this backfield split to shift as the year progresses. Even if Judkins were to sign immediately, however, Ford and Sampson appear solidified in their roles for Week 1.
Aug 23, 2025
Splits work with Sampson
Ford carried the ball twice for 14 yards and caught both his targets for five yards in Saturday's 19-17 preseason win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
The fourth-year back split the backfield workload with fourth-round rookie Dylan Sampson over the Browns' first two drives, before Sampson checked out and was replaced by Pierre Strong. Ford himself then gave way to Ahmani Marshall to begin the second quarter. Ford and Sampson figure to share touches to begin the regular season as well, but how snaps are actually divided between the two, and in what situations, remains to be seen. Quinshon Judkins, a second-round pick in 2025 who has yet to sign a contract with Cleveland due to off-field issues, remains a wild card but could be added to the backfield later in the year.
Aug 16, 2025
Not in line to play Saturday
Ford is among the key Cleveland players not slated to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Eagles, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to fellow RB Dylan Sampson, QBs Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett (hamstring), Shedeur Sanders (oblique), WR Jerry Jeudy, as well as TEs David Njoku and Harold Fannin. With 2025 second-rounder Quinshon Judkins still unsigned, Ford remains in a position to continue to handle a key role in the Browns' backfield, and his next chance to see game action will arrive Aug. 23 against the Rams.
Aug 8, 2025
Not slated to play Friday
Ford is among the Browns not in line to play in Friday's preseason opener against the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Other key non-injured Cleveland skill players not slated to see action Friday are QB Joe Flacco, RB Pierre Strong, WRs Jerry Jeudy and Cedric Tillman, as well as TE David Njoku. With the status of unsigned rookie second-rounder Quinshon Judkins still unclear, Ford currently profiles as the Browns' top back, with Strong and Dylan Sampson also in the mix for touches out of the gate this season.
Jul 30, 2025
Participating in team drills
Ford (undisclosed) took part in team drills during Wednesday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford resumed practicing Monday in what head coach Kevin Stefanski described as a "limited capacity," but he now appears to be fully recovered from the undisclosed injury he dealt with for roughly one week. After accepting a pay cut to remain with Cleveland earlier this offseason, Ford now finds himself facing significant backfield opportunities, as rookie second-round pick Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned amid legal issues. In the meantime, Ford and rookie fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson figure to split the majority of first-team snaps, with veteran Pierre Strong and UDFA Ahmani Marshall also battling for reps.
Jul 28, 2025
Returning to practice
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Ford (undisclosed) is returning to practice in a "limited capacity" this week, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford missed the first handful of practices with an injury that still hasn't been specified. Fellow running back Quinshon Judkins remains unsigned amid legal problems, leaving fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson and veteran Pierre Strong as the immediate competition for first-team snaps. Ford figures to jump in atop the depth chart soon enough.
Jul 25, 2025
Could practice soon
Ford (undisclosed) worked out with the athletic training staff Friday and is getting closer to practicing, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski has been consistently optimistic that Ford's absence at the start of training camp won't last long. With rookie second-round pick Quinshon Judkins unsigned and facing legal problems, the Browns are left with only fourth-round pick Dylan Sampson, Pierre Strong and UDFA Ahmani Marshall as the available running backs for the opening days of training camp. Ford likely will be the leader of the group once he's ready to return from his unspecified injury.
Jul 24, 2025
Misses another practice
Ford (undisclosed) will remain sidelined during Thursday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Zac Jackson of The Athletic, coach Kevin Stefanski noted that Ford is "progressing well" from what Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram describes as a minor (unspecified) injury. Once Ford is able to resume practicing, he'll be on track to work as the Browns' RB1, with 2025 second-rounder Quinshon Judkins remaining unsigned amid legal issues, Pat McGinnis of Browns Wire reports.
Jul 23, 2025
Misses Wednesday's practice
Ford didn't participate in Wednesday's training camp practice, with Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram noting that the running back appears to be dealing with a minor (unspecified) injury.
ANALYSIS
With 2025 second-rounder Quinshon Judkins unsigned amid legal issues, per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal, Ford's absence further taxes the Browns' running back depth at the onset of training camp. For now, Dylan Sampson, Pierre Strong and Ahmani Marshall are the team's available backfield options, but once Ford is back on the field, he'll profile as the team's RB1, given Judkins' situation, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com notes.

Accepts pay cut
Ford (ankle) agreed to terms Friday on a salary reduction from $3.49 million to a guaranteed $1.75 million for the 2025 season, Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford's reduced salary follows the Browns' selection of second-round running back Quinshon Judkins at No. 33 overall in April's draft, in addition to running back Dylan Sampson in the fourth round. Per Kabot, had Ford not agreed to a pay cut he would have been a trade candidate, and Cleveland may have re-signed free agent Nick Chubb (foot). With Ford's spot on the roster now essentially guaranteed, the door appears closed for Chubb to reunite with the Browns, barring damage to the team's depth. Zac Jackson and Lauren Smith of The Athletic report that Ford currently retains his old on the No. 1 depth chart spot, but his salary reduction is a clear indication that the role will be up for grabs if Judkins logs a more impressive offseason.
Apr 26, 2025
Atop depth chart for now
Ford (ankle) is atop the depth chart at running back, but that could change given the Browns' selection of Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins with the 36th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Zac Jackson and Lauren Smith of The Athletic report.
ANALYSIS
Ford enters the final year of his rookie deal and has been a competent complementary player behind Nick Chubb the last three seasons. Drafting Judkins suggests the team will not bring Chubb back, and the Buckeye running back is talented enough to earn carries immediately. At the very least, Judkins will be part of the backfield from day one and could take over as the primary back early in the season -- the same path Chubb took to become one of the game's best backs prior to a serious knee injury in 2023. Think of Ford as atop the depth chart with an asterisk.
Jan 3, 2025
Lands on IR
Ford (ankle) has been placed on IR by the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Ford was already ruled out for the 3-13 Browns' season finale, so his placement on IR creates a roster spot for the team heading into Week 18. In 14 contests this season, Ford carried 104 times for 565 yards and three TDs and caught 37 of his 43 targets for 225 yards. Ford remains under contract with Cleveland in 2025, though the running back's role next season is to be determined and hinges on the moves the team makes this offseason to bolster its backfield.
Jan 2, 2025
Ruled out for Saturday
Ford (ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Ravens, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
With Pierre Strong (concussion) also ruled out for the contest, D'Onta Foreman figures to be next in line for Cleveland's carries in Week 18, with John Kelly available to mix in. The Browns have RBs Aidan Robbins and Jacob Kibodi on their practice squad, with one or both likely to be elevated for the team's season finale.
Jan 2, 2025
Another missed practice
Ford (ankle) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford has yet to practice this week, so the running back is looking pretty iffy for Saturday's season finale against the Ravens. If Ford ends up sidelined this weekend, D'Onta Foreman would likely be next in line for carries in Week 18, with Pierre Strong (concussion) -- if he's available -- and John Kelly also candidates to mix in. Additionally, the Browns have RBs Aidan Robbins and Jacob Kibodi on their practice squad.
Jan 1, 2025
Not practicing Wednesday
Ford (ankle) isn't practicing Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford was deemed a non-participant on Tuesday's practice estimate, so his absence from Wednesday's session sets the stage for what he's able to do Thursday to loom large with regard to his chances of playing Saturday against the Ravens. If Ford is limited or out this weekend, D'Onta Foreman would likely be next in line for carries, with Pierre Strong (concussion) -- if available -- and John Kelly also in the mix.
Dec 31, 2024
Not practicing to begin Week 18
Ford (ankle) was estimated as a non-participant in Tuesday's walk-through practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford didn't take the field to begin Week 18 prep after he was forced out of this past Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Dolphins in the second quarter with the ankle injury. With both Ford and Pierre Strong (concussion) -- who was also a non-participant Tuesday -- banged up to begin Week 18 prep, the Browns signed John Kelly to their 53-man roster to provide another healthy option in the backfield along with D'Onta Foreman. The Browns could be relying heavily on Foreman to lead the ground attack in Saturday's season finale versus the Ravens if Ford is unable to play and if Strong can't clear the five-step concussion protocol before the weekend.
Dec 29, 2024
Struggles against MIA
Ford rushed six times for 22 yards with no targets as a receiver in Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Ford failed to replicate last week's sterling starting performance against a tougher defensive opponent in Week 17. Despite his struggles, the 24-year-old remains in line to serve as one of the top rushing options for the 3-13 Browns in Week 18 with Nick Chubb (foot) sidelined for the remainder of the campaign. It is worth noting that veteran back D'Onta Foreman received 13 carries for 49 yards in Sunday's loss. Ford should only be considered a deep-league option against the Ravens next Sunday, but he presents some upside for those in deep and DFS formats.
Dec 23, 2024
Thrives as lead back
Ford rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Bengals in Week 16. He also caught all five of his targets for 39 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford, who replaced Nick Chubb (foot) as the lead back, broke off a 66-yard run on the game's opening play from scrimmage and later scored a touchdown from four yards out. Other than long run, he was held to 26 yards on 10 carries, but Ford was part of the offense's best rushing effort of the season. It came on the heels of the team's 139-yard rushing output last week when Ford had a 62-yard touchdown scamper. While the roster is expected to undergo a significant renovation, Ford looks like a keeper and will likely be the lead back in 2025.
Dec 19, 2024
Set to lead backfield
Ford is expected to be the lead running back after the Browns placed Nick Chubb (foot) on the injured list Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Ford stepped in for Chubb during last week's loss to the Chiefs and contributed his best effort of the season with 84 yards on seven carries, including a 62-yard touchdown scamper. Cleveland not only will have a new lead back Sunday against the Bengals, but the offense will also have a new starting quarterback, Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Given the relative inexperience of Thompson-Robinson, the offensive gameplan may initially lean on Ford and the ground game. Ford, who leads the Browns' backfield in targets, should be considered a three-down back.
Dec 15, 2024
Long TD run in extended duty
Ford rushed seven times for 84 yards and a touchdown and brought in both targets for 20 yards in the Browns' 21-7 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. He also returned four kickoffs for 117 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford opened the game in his usual complementary role behind Nick Chubb, but the latter eventually exited the game due to what was subsequently determined to be a broken foot. Ford broke off a 62-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to account for the majority of his yardage, but he should be poised to handle a lead-back role moving forward for what remains of the season with Chubb sidelined.
Dec 9, 2024
Backfield snap leader
Ford rushed 10 times for 28 yards and caught three of four targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 27-14 loss to Pittsburgh in Week 14.
ANALYSIS
Ford's 13 touches were his most since coming back a hamstring injury in Week 9. He was on the field for 40 snaps, more than starter Nick Chubb (26) for the second consecutive game, but that has more to do with Cleveland playing from behind. The Browns have attempted more than 40 passes six times in the seven games since Jameis Winston has taken over at quarterback. That's a situation that benefits Ford, who leads the backfield with 36 targets.
Dec 3, 2024
Gains 62 yards on 10 touches
Ford rushed nine times for 41 yards while catching his lone target for 21 yards in Monday's 41-32 loss to Denver.
ANALYSIS
Ford finished as the Browns leading rusher while tying starter Nick Chubb in carries (nine). The latter benefited from a receiving touchdown late in Monday's defeat, but Ford got extra run in the second half with the Browns playing from behind in the high-scoring affair. Ford has been getting enough work to warrant consideration in deeper formats ahead of Sunday's rematch against the Steelers (20-59-2 vs. PIT in Week 12).
Nov 22, 2024
Five touches in win
Ford carried four times for 19 yards and caught his lone target for eight yards in Thursday's 24-19 win over the Steelers. He also returned three kickoffs for 72 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford watched Nick Chubb handle the bulk of the duty on a snowy and windy night in Cleveland. With Chubb getting stronger each week since coming back from a knee injury, there hasn't been much opportunity for Ford to shine. He has 11 carries for 34 yards and six catches for 39 yards over the last three games since returning from a hamstring injury.
Nov 17, 2024
Nine touches in loss
Ford rushed five times for 10 yards and caught all four targets for 29 yards in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Saints in Week 11. He also returned two kickoffs for 37 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford was given more opportunities in his second game back from a hamstring injury that cost him two games. He went from three touches to nine, two shy of starter Nick Chubb, and was involved in a productive Cleveland offense that gained a season-high 443 yards. Obviously, the season's gone sideways for a team that held playoff aspirations. The 2-8 Browns face an uncertain future and roster questions abound, which include at running back. Chubb is working on a one-year deal and coming back from a serious knee injury, while Ford is signed through the end of 2025.
Nov 4, 2024
Three touches in return
Ford rushed two times for five yards and caught one of three targets for two yards in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Chargers in Week 9.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers defense came as advertised and shut down all aspects of Cleveland's offense. Ford, who returned from a two-game absence due to a hamstring injury, couldn't find any more room than starter Nick Chubb (15 carries, 39 yards). With the Browns down by three scores at halftime and eventually four scores, Ford was the backfield leader in playing time (36 snaps). The loss was another in a disappointing season in Cleveland, which enters its bye week (and the NFL trade deadline Tuesday) with potential roster decisions to make. That includes on Chubb, who is coming back from a serious knee injury and is in the final year of his contract. If the team moves on from Chubb, then Ford would be in line as the starter for the rest of the season.
Nov 1, 2024
Set for first action since Week 6
Ford (hamstring) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford upgraded to full practice participation Friday after a pair of limited sessions, paving the way for him to return from a two-game absence. He was the top option in Cleveland's backfield while Nick Chubb worked his way back from a knee injury to begin the season, but Ford will likely work in a change-of-pace role behind a healthy Chubb moving forward.
Oct 30, 2024
Another limited practice
Ford (hamstring) was limited at practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford has missed two straight games, but back-to-back limited practices (including this past Friday) suggest that he has a chance to suit up this weekend against the Chargers. That said, with Nick Chubb having reclaimed the top job in Cleveland's backfield, Ford's fantasy upside has taken a notable hit ahead of Week 9 action.
Oct 25, 2024
Ruled out against Ravens
Ford (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Ravens, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford will sit out a second consecutive game, but he returned to practice Friday, which was a step in the right direction. If Ford's able to resume practicing regularly prior to Week 9 against the Chargers, he would have a good chance to return to action Nov. 3. Nick Chubb is Cleveland's top backfield option now that he's available, while Pierre Strong and D'Onta Foreman will back up Chubb against Baltimore.
Oct 25, 2024
At Friday's practice
Ford (hamstring) was present for practice Friday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, but his presence at Friday's session suggests that he has a chance to be available Sunday against the Ravens. The Browns' upcoming injury report will clarify the running back's Week 8 status, but if Ford is active Sunday, he'd presumably be in line to work in a complementary role, now that Nick Chubb is back in Cleveland's backfield mix.
Oct 24, 2024
Sitting out another practice
Ford (hamstring) was a non-participant in Thursday's practice, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Unless he's able to get back on the field in some capacity Friday, Ford will likely be ruled out for a second straight game heading into Sunday's matchup with the Ravens. Before exiting the Browns' Week 6 loss to the Eagles with the hamstring injury, Ford had been serving as Cleveland's lead option out of the backfield, but he'll likely have to settle for a secondary role behind the now-healthy Nick Chubb once he's ready to play again.
Oct 23, 2024
Not practicing Wednesday
Ford (hamstring) isn't in line to practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford, who missed this past Sunday's loss to the Bengals, will have two more opportunities to practice ahead of this weekend's game against the Ravens. If he's available for the contest, Ford would presumably be in line to step into a complementary role in Cleveland's backfield, with Nick Chubb having returned to action in Week 7.
Oct 18, 2024
Won't play against Bengals
Ford (hamstring) won't play Sunday against the Bengals, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford, who didn't practice this week, will thus target a potential return to action in Week 8 against the Ravens. In his absence Sunday, some combo Nick Chubb (knee, questionable) -- who's expected to be activated from the PUP list this weekend -- D'Onta Foreman, and Pierre Strong are in line to handle Cleveland's backfield duties versus Cincinnati.
Oct 18, 2024
Still not practicing
Ford (hamstring) remained sidelined at Friday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford has yet to practice this week, clouding his status for Sunday's game against the Bengals. If he ends up ruled out for the contest, the Browns' Week 7 backfield could be comprised of Nick Chubb (knee) -- who's expected to come off the PUP list this weekend -- D'Onta Foreman (groin, limited Wednesday and Thursday) and Pierre Strong.
Oct 17, 2024
Remains sidelined Thursday
Ford (hamstring) is not present at the portion of Thursday's practice open to the media, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford has been deemed week-to-week since being forced out of Cleveland's loss to the Eagles in Week 6 due to a hamstring injury, and he hasn't practiced in any capacity since. With Ford trending in the wrong direction for Sunday's game against the Bengals, the Browns have expressed optimism that Nick Chubb (knee) will be able to come off the PUP list and make his season debut. Both D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong also remain available to contribute out of the backfield.
Oct 16, 2024
Slated to miss practice
Ford (hamstring) isn't in line to practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford not practicing Wednesday comes as no surprise, with coach Kevin Stefanski having previously called the running back week-to-week, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com. While Ford's availability for Sunday's game against the Bengals is cloudy, Nick Chubb (knee) is expected to rejoin the Browns' backfield (which also includes D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong) this weekend.
Oct 14, 2024
Deemed week-to-week by coach
Ford (hamstring) is considered week-to-week, coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford was injured in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Eagles. He's unlikely to play in Week 7 against the Bengals, though more information on that front will surface when the Browns resume practicing Wednesday. Cleveland is well positioned to weather a potential absence from Ford, as Nick Chubb (knee) is on track to come off IR and make his season debut against Cincinnati, plus the Browns have D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong in the backfield.
Oct 13, 2024
Won't return Week 6
Ford (hamstring) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against Philadelphia, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford was injured in the first quarter and was ruled out just before halftime. Prior to his exit, the running back rushed twice for 14 yards and didn't receiving any passing targets. It's uncertain if the hamstring issue will affect Ford's availability to face the Bengals next Sunday, and even if he does suit up he could have a lessened workload with Nick Chubb (knee) expected to be active for the first time since Week 2 of last season.

Hurts hamstring Sunday
Ford was forced out of Sunday's game against the Eagles with a hamstring injury.
ANALYSIS
Before sustaining the injury, Ford carried twice for 14 yards. In his absence, D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong are next up for the Browns' Week 6 carries, while Nick Chubb (knee/PUP list) is still unavailable but trending toward returning to the team's backfield mix next week.
Oct 12, 2024
Trending to lead role Week 6
Ford is expected to maintain the lead backfield role Week 6 against Philadelphia, as both Nick Chubb (knee) and Nyheim Hines (knee) are ruled out on the Browns' injury report.
ANALYSIS
Ford will top the backfield for a sixth consecutive game, but it hasn't gone well for him or the Browns. He's gained a healthy 5.2 yards per carry but has fewer than 10 carries per game and one touchdown. The team's play caller -- head coach Kevin Stefanski -- has led a game plan thus far that tilted toward the passing game, and the results aren't pretty. Perhaps the coach will shift focus and lean on Ford and the ground game against the league's 20th-ranked rushing defense (128.8 yards per game).
Oct 6, 2024
Splits work with Foreman
Ford carried the ball nine times for 47 yards and caught all three of his targets for two yards in Sunday's 34-13 loss to the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
While he led the Cleveland backfield in rushing yards, Ford's production on the ground was nearly identical to D'Onta Foreman, who gained 44 yards on nine carries. The entire Browns' offense is struggling right now, and being in a timeshare won't help Ford break out -- the third-year RB hasn't seen more than 10 carries or scored a TD in four straight games, topping out at 64 rushing yards during that stretch. The team's backfield situation will change radically once Nick Chubb (knee) is cleared to return, but if Chubb remains sidelined in Week 6, Ford will try to make an impact against a well-rested Eagles defense that will be coming out of its bye.
Oct 5, 2024
Still lead back
Ford is expected to be the lead back Sunday against the Commanders, as both Nick Chubb (knee) and Nyheim Hines (knee) have been ruled out.
ANALYSIS
Ford should be the lead back for a fifth consecutive week, but the Browns have yet to establish a consistent ground attack. Cleveland ranks 28th in run blocking, per Pro Football Focus, and averages 94.8 rushing yards per game (26th). While Ford's per-carry average (5.2) is good, he has just 39 carries through four games.

Turns 17 touches into 85 yards
Ford (knee) ran the ball 10 times for 58 yards while adding seven receptions on as many targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Ford overcame a minor knee injury he picked up in Week 3 to lead Cleveland's backfield in a close loss to the Raiders. The veteran tailback finished with a new high of 85 combined yards through four starts replacing Nick Chubb (knee) this year. Ford has yet to hit pay dirt since scoring his lone touchdown in Week 1, but he maintains a strong hold on the starting job while Chubb remains sidelined. The 25-year-old should carry FLEX appeal heading into a Week 5 matchup against the Commanders.
Sep 27, 2024
Set to play in Week 4
Ford (knee) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in Las Vegas, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford followed up Wednesday's DNP and Thursday's limited session with a full practice to wrap up Week 4 prep, thus paving the way for him to continue leading the Browns backfield. Through three games on the campaign, he's tallied 39 touches for 203 yards from scrimmage and one TD, while No. 2 RB D'Onta Foreman has a 17-56-0 line, respectively. Ford thus is the Browns' unquestioned top runner for as long as Nick Chubb (knee) remains on the reserve/PUP list, and the former will be taking on a Raiders defense Sunday that has given up a league-worst 5.6 YPC to opposing running backs this season.
Sep 26, 2024
Limited in return to practice
Ford (knee) was a limited practice participant Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After logging no reps in Wednesday's session, Ford took a step forward in his recovery from the knee issue by increasing his practice activity. He'll likely still need to upgrade to full participation Friday to avoid taking a designation into Sunday's game in Las Vegas, but at this stage of the week, Ford appears to be trending toward suiting up.
Sep 26, 2024
Returns to practice Thursday
Ford (knee) is participating at practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford didn't practice Wednesday, but he's participating in at least a limited capacity Thursday. He played a season-high 83 percent of offensive snaps during Cleveland's loss to the Giants in Week 3, rushing 10 times for 37 yards and securing three of four targets for 33 yards, and it was at no point reported that Ford had to leave the game due to injury. That could be an indication that Ford's absence Wednesday was only due to a minor issue or for rest purposes. Assuming he's good to go, Ford will be in position to again lead the Browns' backfield versus the Raiders on Sunday.
Sep 25, 2024
DNP due to knee Wednesday
Ford (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford's managing a knee injury to begin the week, but he still has two additional opportunities to return to practice Thursday and Friday before Cleveland publishes its Week 4 injury for Sunday's game against the Raiders. Pierre Strong (hamstring) also didn't practice Wednesday, while Nick Chubb (knee) is ineligible to come off the PUP list until Week 5 at the earliest, leaving D'Onta Foreman and Gary Brightwell as the team's only healthy running backs at the moment.
Sep 25, 2024
Managing knee injury
Ford isn't expected to practice Wednesday due to a knee injury, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford played 53 of the Browns' 67 snaps on offense in this past Sunday's loss to the Giants, finishing with 10 carries for 37 yards and three catches for 33 yards in the contest. The Browns haven't revealed whether Ford's knee issue is anything that will affect his status for Week 4, but if he's unable to play Sunday against the Raiders, D'Onta Foreman would likely serve as Cleveland's lead option on the ground.
Sep 22, 2024
Posts 70 scrimmage yards Week 3
Ford rushed 10 times for 37 yards and caught three of four targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 21-15 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Ford had four first-half carries for four yards while no teammate recorded more than one first-half rushing attempt as the Browns took a 21-7 deficit into the locker room. He finished the game with 10 carries compared to only two for D'Onta Foreman, and Ford posted the second-highest receiving yardage total on the team thanks to a 24-yard catch in the second half. Ford has posted between 64 and 70 scrimmage yards in each of Cleveland's first three games and should continue to lead the team's backfield in Week 4 against the Raiders since Nick Chubb (knee) is ineligible to come off the PUP list until Week 5 at the earliest.
Sep 20, 2024
Has favorable Week 3 matchup
Ford has a favorable Week 3 matchup against the Giants, who rank 28th in rushing yards allowed, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns have had a couple of disjointed offensive efforts to open the season, and the winless Giants present an opportunity to fix the issues. Ford, who had just 19 carries in the first two weeks, could get that many touches this week. The Browns, which has considered the ground game central to their plan, rank 21st in rushing yards (109.0 ypg) after two games.
Sep 15, 2024
Falls behind Foreman
Ford rushed the ball seven times for 64 yards in Sunday's 18-13 win over Jacksonville. He added one reception on two targets for zero yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford led Cleveland's backfield in Week 1 but was surprisingly limited against Jacksonville and was out-touched 15-8 by D'Onta Foreman. Game script likely had something to do with it, as Ford had one more opportunity than Foreman at halftime, but Cleveland was ahead by two possessions for a lengthy portion of the second half. Positively, Ford had two of the Browns' biggest gains with rushes of 36 and 12 yards. That efficiency combined with a lack of depth -- Pierre Strong (hamstring) exited Sunday's game -- should keep him in the mix for touches every week, though his volume could remain volatile.
Sep 9, 2024
Totals 18 touches
Ford rushed the ball 12 times for 44 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 33-17 loss to the Cowboys. He added six receptions on seven targets for 25 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford unsurprisingly served as Cleveland's lead back but saw his volume on the ground limited by the game script. He made up for that with a garbage-time touchdown with 29 seconds remaining and also had strong involvement as a pass catcher. While Deshaun Watson made things difficult for the majority of the Browns' skill-position players, Ford was a beneficiary as a regular dump-off option. So long as Nick Chubb (knee) is sidelined, Ford should be capable of putting together similar results moving forward.
Aug 25, 2024
Modest action in preseason finale
Ford rushed three times for 11 yards in the Browns' 37-33 preseason loss to the Seahawks on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Ford played on the Browns' first two possessions before bowing out of the contest, closing out the exhibition slate with just five carries overall across two games. The light usage isn't surprising, considering Ford is in line to open the regular season as Cleveland's top backfield option while Nick Chubb goes through the final stages of his recovery from last season's devastating knee injury. Ford flashed plenty of encouraging play in a lead role last season following Chubb's injury, but in the early portion of the coming campaign, he'll contend with D'Onta Foreman for touches.
Aug 17, 2024
Not in line to play Saturday
Ford isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against Minnesota, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford started Cleveland's preseason opener and took two carries for four yards, but for this one he's on the long list of players expected to sit out, joined by QB Deshaun Watson, TE David Njoku and a handful of wide receivers. With fellow running backs Nick Chubb (knee) and Nyheim Hines (knee) still unavailable, Cleveland is left with Pierre Strong, D'Onta Foreman and Aidan Robbins as the backfield options.
Aug 11, 2024
Limited work Saturday
Ford carried the ball twice for four yards in Saturday's 23-10 preseason loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old running back got the start for Cleveland's preseason opener but played only one series before Pierre Strong took over. Ford is expected to begin the regular season as the No. 1 option in the backfield, and even once Nick Chubb (knee) is cleared to return to action, the 2022 fifth-round pick should still have a significant role while Chubb ramps up his workload.
Jul 29, 2024
Rejoins practice
Ford (personal) returned to practice Monday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford missed practice from Thursday through the weekend to attend to an unspecified personal matter. He remains the favorite to lead Cleveland's backfield if Nick Chubb (knee) isn't ready by Week 1, but it could be a committee situation with D'Onta Foreman, Pierre Strong and/or Nyheim Hines (knee) also having roles.
Jul 27, 2024
Remains out Friday
Ford (personal) remained away from the team and missed Friday's practice, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford was out for a second consecutive practice, but Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski reiterated that Ford would be back "shortly." The coach also hinted that the running back will have "great news" to share once he returns to camp. The 24-year-old Ford is projected to be the Browns' lead back as long as Nick Chubb is recovering from his knee injury.
Jul 25, 2024
Misses practice Thursday
Ford missed Thursday's practice due to a personal matter, Patrick Warren of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford is expected to return to camp Friday. With Nick Chubb (knee) on the active/physically unable to perform list and Nyheim Hines (knee) on the active/non-football injury list, Ford will be first in the running back line for drills once he's back.
Jul 23, 2024
Role depends on RB injuries
Ford's preseason and regular season roles depend on the health statuses of injured teammates, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With Nick Chubb (knee) unavailable during the offseason, Ford was first in running back lines for spring workouts and likely heads into training camp as the lead back. The Browns could apply injury designations to Chubb and Nyheim Hines (knee) at the beginning of camp, which will cement Ford as the lead back, potentially into the regular season. If each injured back is placed on the active-physically unable to perform list, that means Chubb and Hines, both of whom are coming back from ACL injuries, won't be participating at the start of camp and remain eligible for the reserve-PUP list to start the regular season. In the event of reserve-PUP, a player will miss at least the first four games of the regular season. There are some moving parts right now, but Ford's role should sort itself out over the coming weeks.
Jan 13, 2024
Limited to 26 total yards
Ford rushed the ball nine times for 17 yards in Saturday's 45-14 loss to the Texans. He added four receptions on four targets for 15 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford fell slightly behind Kareem Hunt in total workload out of the backfield and lost out on touches near the goal line and as a receiver. Even when he did have the ball in his hands, he was held in check by the Texans' defense to turn in a disappointing final game of the campaign. Overall, Ford had the chance to serve as Cleveland's lead back for much of the season due to Nick Chubb (knee) being sidelined and managed an impressive nine total touchdowns with 1,132 yards from scrimmage. Chubb's status from a health and contract perspective is ambiguous at this point, so Ford may maintain a significant role in Cleveland's offense in 2024.
Jan 7, 2024
Limited action ahead of playoffs
Ford rushed three times for six yards and caught two of three targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Neither Ford nor Kareem Hunt (zero carries, one catch) saw much involvement with the Browns locked in as the top wild card in the AFC. Pierre Strong led Cleveland's backfield with 14 carries for 65 yards before exiting with a back injury. Ford finishes the regular season with 813 yards and four touchdowns on 204 rushing attempts, as well as 44 catches for 319 yards and five touchdowns on 63 targets. He will likely return to his usual role as the 1A backfield option for the Browns with Hunt working as the 1B against the Texans in the wild-card round.
Jan 7, 2024
Active but may not play
Ford isn't expected to play Sunday against the Bengals, despite being in uniform for pregame warmups, Tony Grossi of 850 ESPN Cleveland reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford is active for the game, but with the Browns locked in as the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs, he looks to be one of several Cleveland starters who will get little or no playing time as the team prioritizes his health ahead of the wild-card round. Pierre Strong -- typically the third man on the depth chart -- was spotted working out with the first-team offense in warmups and could end up serving as Cleveland's lead back, while Kareem Hunt may stick as the No. 2 option ahead of Ford.
Dec 28, 2023
Pair of receiving TDs in win
Ford rushed 12 times for 64 yards and secured two of three targets for 57 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns' 37-20 win over the Jets on Thursday night. He also recovered a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Ford found consistent room against a Jets defense that has been spotty against the run all season, but his biggest contributions came through the air. Ford got the scoring on the night started with a seven-yard touchdown grab in the first quarter, and he followed it up with an impressive 50-yard catch and run that saw him power his way into the end zone with 1:25 remaining in the first half. The second-year back's rushing yardage total was his best since Week 12, while his receiving yardage tally qualified as a season high. Ford figures to continue playing a key role in Cleveland's upcoming playoff appearances, and it remains to be seen how much time he'll log in a Week 18 regular-season finale against the Bengals on Jan. 7.
Dec 24, 2023
Finds end zone in Houston
Ford carried the ball 15 times for 25 yards and a touchdown and caught one of two targets for minus-2 yards in Sunday's 36-22 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
The running back opened the scoring early in the first quarter with a four-yard run, but Ford didn't make much impact after that as the Browns' offense turned into the Amari Cooper Show, with the wideout setting a new franchise record with 265 receiving yards. It was Ford's first rushing TD since Week 11 and his seventh touchdown of the season in total, and the second-year year back sits just 21 scrimmage yards shy of 1,000 for the campaign heading into a Week 17 clash with the Jets.
Dec 21, 2023
Full practice participant
Ford (wrist) was a full practice participant Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford returned to a Week 14 contest after suffering the wrist injury and then played through it last week in a 20-17 win over the Bears. The bigger problems for his fantasy value are Cleveland's terrible injury luck on the offensive line and the reality that Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong are combining for 35-to-50 percent of the backfield work most weeks. It'll likely be the same story this Sunday at Houston.
Dec 20, 2023
Still listed with minor wrist injury
Ford (wrist) is listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's estimated practice report, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford injured his wrist Week 14 but returned to the game and then avoided an injury designation ahead of the Week 15 win over Chicago. He should be ready for Sunday's game in Houston, reprising his role as the leader of Cleveland's three-man backfield.
Dec 17, 2023
Held in check Sunday
Ford carried the ball eight times for 20 yards and caught four of five targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
The second-year RB posted his lowest scrimmage yards total of the season after dealing with a wrist issue in practice during the week, but it was still enough to lead the Cleveland backfield as Kareem Hunt managed just 20 yards on eight touches. Ford remains the top fantasy option of the duo, particularly as a result of taking over the primary receiving back duties -- he's caught at least three passes in four straight games, posting a 16-89-1 line on 21 targets over that stretch in addition to his 155 rushing yards. Ford will look to rebound in Week 16 against the Texans.
Dec 15, 2023
Set to face Bears
Ford (wrist) doesn't carry an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Bears, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford was limited at practice Wednesday and Thursday, before returning to a full session Friday. Fellow RB Kareem Hunt (groin) also practiced fully Friday and will be available Sunday as well. In last weekend's 31-27 win over the Jaguars, Ford logged 43 of a possible 76 snaps on offense, en route to recording 12 carries for 51 yards and catching five of his six targets for 31 yards. Meanwhile, Hunt was out there for 28 of a possible 76 snaps on offense, while carrying 10 times for 27 yards and a TD and adding one catch for three yards. Look for a similar time-share to be in play versus Chicago, a context that gives both backs a degree of fantasy lineup utility in Week 15.
Dec 14, 2023
Another limited session
Ford (wrist) remained limited at practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Following back-to-back limited sessions, Ford will probably need to practice fully Friday in order to avoid an in injury designation for Sunday's game against the Bears. The same applies to fellow RB Kareem Hunt (groin), who returned to a limited practice Thursday after logging a 'DNP' on Wednesday.
Dec 13, 2023
Logs limited practice
Ford (wrist) was limited at practice Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Petrak, coach Kevin Stefanski relayed earlier this week that X-rays on Ford's hand/wrist were negative, but the running back's listed limitations Wednesday make his status worth tracking ahead of Sunday's game against the Bears. The same applies to Kareem Hunt, who missed Wednesday's session as he continues to manage a groin injury.
Dec 11, 2023
Avoids hand fracture
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that X-rays on Ford's injured wrist returned negative, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford briefly exited Sunday's 31-27 win over the Jaguars when he appeared to injure his wrist/hand on a rushing attempt in the fourth quarter, but he later checked into the game and finished the day with 12 carries for 51 yards and five receptions on six targets for 31 yards. Though follow-up X-rays revealed no fracture to Ford's wrist, the running back could still be dealing with soreness or ligament damage that could affect his practice participation leading up to this Sunday's game against the Bears. Fantasy managers will want to continue monitoring Ford's status leading up to the Week 15 contest.
Dec 10, 2023
May have suffered hand injury
Ford rushed the ball 12 times for 51 yards in Sunday's 31-27 win over the Jaguars. He added five receptions on six targets for 31 yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford split carries nearly evenly with Kareem Hunt, but he separated himself as a pass catcher. On the ground, most of Ford's production came on a 26-yard gain early in the second quarter. He also has at least five targets in three of his last four games and has topped 30 receiving yards in consecutive contests. Ford should retain a valuable role in the offensive moving forward, though his status will be worth monitoring leading up to a Week 15 matchup against the Bears as he was headed for X-rays on hand or wrist following the win, per Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Dec 4, 2023
Finds end zone in Week 13 loss
Ford carried the ball nine times for 19 yards and caught all three of his targets for 33 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 36-19 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
He and Kareem Hunt essentially switched roles in this one, as Hunt led the Browns with 12 carries but it was Ford who made an impact through the air. How much of that usage was due to Joe Flacco being under center rather than rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) isn't yet clear, but the backfield duo figures to remain in some sort of timeshare heading into a Week 14 clash with the Jaguars' stout run defense.
Nov 26, 2023
Solid showing against Denver
Ford carried the ball nine times for 65 yards and caught four of seven targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 29-12 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Despite his big 7.2 yards per carry average, Ford failed to get double-digit carries for only the third time this season as the Browns struggled to control the ball with rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) and then PJ Walker under center. Ford remains the team's top backfield option over Kareem Hunt (seven touches for 22 yards Sunday), and he's topped 70 scrimmage yards in three of the last four games despite the turmoil around him in the offense. Regardless of who's at quarterback, Ford should see a significant role in Week 13 against the Rams.
Nov 25, 2023
Expected heavy workload
Ford is expected to have a significant role Week 12 against the Broncos, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland's Week 12 gameplan shouldn't change much from last week -- ride the combination of Ford and Kareem Hunt while making short, manageable throws from rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. What makes the plan enticing is the Broncos' last-in-the-league run defense, which has allowed 160 yards per game. That average is partially skewed by a Week 3 loss to Miami (350 rushing yards), but even on its current four-game win streak, Denver has given up 5.3 yards per carry. Ford, who is now five weeks removed from a high-ankle sprain, could see a heavy workload in Denver.
Nov 19, 2023
Saves day with touchdown
Ford rushed the ball 12 times for 31 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 13-10 win over the Steelers. He added two receptions on five targets for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
In a change from prior weeks, Ford split work out of the Cleveland backfield exactly evenly with Kareem Hunt. Neither put up an impressive line, but Ford did cash in a one-yard score to record the Browns' only touchdown of the day. While that saved his performance in Week 11, he may have difficulty finding success with Dorian Thompson-Robinson under center, as opposing defenses may be willing to crowd the line of scrimmage. Big numbers may be particularly hard to come by if Ford continues to evenly split work with Hunt.
Nov 12, 2023
Tops 100 yards against Ravens
Ford rushed the ball 17 times for 107 yards in Sunday's 33-31 win over the Ravens. He added one reception for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Ford continued to lead the Browns' backfield, as he out-touched Kareem Hunt 18-10. He recorded his second 100-yard effort of the season and also became only the second back to reach the century mark on the ground against the Ravens. Much of that came on big plays of 28 and 13 yards, though Ford averaged an impressive 6.3 yards per carry overall. Since Cleveland's bye in Week 5, Ford has topped 80 yards from scrimmage in three of five games.
Nov 5, 2023
Garners 25 touches in win
Ford rushed 20 times for 44 yards and secured five of seven targets for 33 yards in the Browns' 27-0 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Ford outpaced backfield mate Kareem Hunt by six carries, and neither back was able to find much success save for Hunt's short touchdown run against what had been a fairly porous Cardinals run defense. However, Ford was able to partly make up for the inefficient day on the ground with impressive volume as a receiver, and his hefty workload dispelled any concerns about the condition of his previously gimpy ankle. Ford is likely to remain the de facto lead back in a Week 10 road divisional showdown against the Ravens.
Nov 3, 2023
Suiting up alongside Watson Week 9
Ford (ankle) practiced fully Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford upgraded to full participation Friday after being limited Wednesday and Thursday. He injured his ankle in Week 7 against the Colts and played through the injury in Week 8 against the Seahawks, though Ford handled only nine carries compared to 14 for Kareem Hunt and 10 for Pierre Strong. Hunt and Strong could remain involved Sunday, but if Ford's close to full health, he'll likely reclaim the lead back role in a Browns offense that will be welcoming back starting quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder).
Nov 2, 2023
Stays limited in practice
Ford (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford is still working his way back from a right high-ankle sprain sustained in the Browns' Week 7 win over the Colts, but the injury didn't stop him from being available for this past Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, albeit in a limited capacity. After following up his nine-carry, one-catch performance in Seattle with two limited practices to begin Week 9 prep, Ford appears on track to play Sunday against the Cardinals, but it's not yet clear if he'll head into the game with an injury designation. If Ford can put in a full practice Friday, it would improve his odds of not only entering the weekend without a designation, but also reclaiming the lead role out of the Cleveland backfield from Kareem Hunt.
Nov 1, 2023
Deemed limited Wednesday
Ford (ankle) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Per Zac Jackson of The Athletic, Ford said his ankle feels "pretty good" at this stage of the week, an indication he experienced no setbacks with playing through the injury in this past Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. After suffering the high-ankle sprain in the Browns' Week 7 win over the Colts, Ford initially didn't appear to be in line to play Week 8, but he was ultimately active for the contest despite carrying a questionable designation into Sunday. Ford was more limited than usual against Seattle -- his 23 snaps on offense were his fewest of the season -- but he accounted for 39 yards on 10 touches (nine carries, one reception) and should be ready to handle a larger workload Week 9 against the Cardinals. Even so, Ford will likely still need to return to full participation in practice by Friday to ensure he enters the weekend without a designation.
Oct 29, 2023
Volume decreases
Ford carried the ball nine times for 37 yards in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Ford was surprisingly active after suffering an ankle injury in Week 7, though he was on the wrong end of a three-way backfield split for Cleveland. The Browns were clearly monitoring his volume and saved him for the fourth quarter, when he accounted for seven of his nine carries. Ford is unlikely to get a full workload during the second half of the season, though it's realistic to expect his volume to tick back up once his ankle has some time to heal. With that in mind, monitoring his practice participation will be important leading into a Week 9 matchup against the Cardinals.
Oct 29, 2023
In uniform Sunday
Ford (ankle) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
After missing practice Wednesday and Thursday, Ford was a limited participant in Friday's session, which set the stage for the Browns to list him as questionable for Sunday's contest. With his Week 8 active status confirmed, Ford is slated to work through an ankle issue that initial reports suggested could lead to the running back missing a week or two. With that in mind, it remains to be seen how close to a full workload Ford will be up for versus Seattle and if he's limited at all or suffers any setbacks, Kareem Hunt would presumably be next up for added touches, with Pierre Strong also available to mix in.
Oct 29, 2023
Pushing to play Sunday
Ford (ankle), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Seattle, will go through a pregame warmup before the Browns decide whether he's available to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
After sustaining a high-ankle sprain in last week's win over the Colts and then missing practices Wednesday and Thursday, Ford appeared to stand little chance of being available for the Week 8 contest. However, he surprisingly returned to the practice field Friday as a limited participant, prompting the Browns to list him as questionable heading into the weekend. Schefter relays that Ford wants and intends to play Sunday, but if the Browns have any reservations about the health of his ankle, the second-year back will sit out. The Browns might have tipped their hand about their plans for Ford when they elevated another running back (Jordan Wilkins) from the practice squad Saturday, but official word on Ford's status won't come until the team releases its inactive list 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff. Even if Ford suits up, he may not be tasked with handling a full workload and could cede the lead role out of the backfield to Kareem Hunt.

Questionable for Sunday's contest
Ford (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Ford "surprised" the Browns with how he ran Thursday and with the running back having tested his ankle out during Friday's practice, he now has a chance to play this weekend based on his listed 'questionable' designation. Look for added context with regard to Ford's Week 8 status to arrive Saturday night or Sunday morning via national reporters like Schefter or Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, but if the running back ends up limited or out Sunday, added backfield reps would be available for Kareem Hunt (thigh) and Pierre Strong.

Present for practice Friday
Ford (ankle) was spotted at practice Friday, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Previous reports suggested that Ford was expected to miss one-to-two weeks, but his appearance on the field Friday offers hope that the running back may have a chance to suit up this weekend against the Seahawks. The Browns' upcoming injury report will add further clarity to the team's Week 8 backfield situation, in any case. While Ford missed practice both Wednesday and Thursday, Kareem Hunt (thigh) returned to a limited session Thursday after being sidelined Wednesday.
Oct 26, 2023
Missing from practice Thursday
Ford (ankle) isn't participating in Thursday's practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns haven't officially ruled Ford out for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, but with two straight absences from practice to begin Week 8 prep, the running back looks all but guaranteed to sit out this weekend. On a positive note, the Browns remain optimistic that Ford's right high-ankle sprain will keep him out for just 1-to-2 weeks, putting him on track to avoid a stint on injured reserve, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. According to Petrak, Kareem Hunt is scheduled to practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday's session due to a lingering thigh injury, so he'll presumably be in line to lead the backfield in Seattle while Pierre Strong works in a complementary role.
Oct 25, 2023
Expected to avoid IR
Ford (ankle) is responding well to treatment and may only miss a week or two, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford's high-ankle sprain isn't considered severe, so the Browns are hopeful he'll avoid a stint on injured reserve. He still figures to miss at least one or two games, leaving Kareem Hunt (thigh) and Pierre Strong as the likely leaders of Cleveland's backfield.
Oct 25, 2023
Not practicing Wednesday
Ford (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to Kareem Hunt (thigh), and with Ford expected to miss a week or two, it's not surprising that the Browns have signed running backs Nate McCrary and RB Jordan Wilkins to the team's practice squad. For now, Pierre Strong profiles as the healthiest back on Cleveland's roster.
Oct 23, 2023
Expected to miss time with ankle injury
Ford is reportedly dealing with what Adam Schefter of ESPN describes as a low grade, high ankle sprain that is expected to sideline the running back for one-to-two weeks.
ANALYSIS
We'll look for confirmation from the team, but it looks like Ford is trending toward missing this weekend's game against the Seahawks, and if that's the case Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong would be in line to lead the Browns' Week 8 backfield. Prior to exiting Sunday's 39-38 win over the Colts, Ford had carried 11 times for 74 yards and a TD and caught two of his four targets for 20 yards.
Oct 22, 2023
Dealing with right ankle issue
Ford, who suffered a right ankle injury during Sunday's 39-38 win over the Colts, was spotted after the contest wearing a protective boot, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his departure from the contest, Ford logged 11 carries for 74 yards and a TD and caught two of his four targets for 20 yards. Now that he's dealing with an ankle issue, Ford's status for next weekend's game against the Seahawks will need to be monitored. If he ends up limited or sidelined in Week 8, Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong would be next up for the Browns' RB touches, with Deon Jackson potentially a candidate to mix in.
Oct 22, 2023
Exits Sunday's game
Ford was forced out of Sunday's game against the Colts with an ankle injury, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit, Ford carried 11 times for 74 yards and a TD and caught two of his four targets for 20 yards. In his absence, Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong are next up for the Browns' Week 7 carries.
Oct 15, 2023
Strong fourth quarter in upset win
Ford rushed 17 times for 84 yards and caught both of his targets for seven yards in Sunday's 19-17 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Kareem Hunt ran in a 16-yard touchdown in the second quarter among his season-high 12 carries, while Ford seemed headed for a third consecutive quiet game prior to coming alive in the fourth quarter. Ford ripped off runs of 13, 14 and 22 yards to set up a pair of Cleveland field goals, the latter of which ended up being the game-winner. This was a nice bounce-back performance from Ford after he had mustered just 44 yards on 19 carries over the previous two games, and the potential return of starting quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder) in Week 7 against the Colts could lead to fewer stacked boxes and open up more running lanes for Ford.
Oct 12, 2023
Practices fully Thursday
Ford (knee) practiced fully Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford was listed as limited Wednesday, but his return to a full session a day later sets the stage for the running back to suit up Sunday against the 5-0 49ers. In the Browns' Week 4 loss to the Ravens, Ford logged 43 snaps and carried nine times for 26 yards, while catching five of his six targets for 19 yards. This time around Ford is in line to continue to lead a Cleveland backfield that also includes Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong, but the trio will be up against a stout San Francisco run defense that has limited opponents to an average of 64.2 rushing yards (second-best in the league) per game to date.
Oct 12, 2023
Knee issue downplayed
Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt noted Thursday that Ford's knee issue isn't a concern ahead of Sunday's game against the 49ers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, but it appears as though his limitations were maintenance-related. That said, the Browns' top running back will need to practice fully by Friday in order to avoid a Week 6 injury designation.
Oct 11, 2023
Logs limited practice
Ford (knee) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
With a limited practice to start the week, Ford's status is now worth monitoring ahead of Sunday's game against the 49ers. The Browns' lead back now has two more chances to upgrade to full participation and thus avoid an injury designation ahead of Week 6 action.
Oct 1, 2023
Bottled up with Watson out
Ford rushed nine times for 26 yards while catching five of six targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 28-3 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Ford struggled to find running lanes with Baltimore stacking the box against rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson after Deshaun Watson (shoulder) was ruled out during pregame warmups. On the bright side, Ford led the Browns in rushing attempts again while Kareem Hunt mustered only 12 rushing yards on five carries. Ford should continue to lead Cleveland's backfield when the Browns host the 49ers in Week 6, and Watson could be back under center after the team's Week 5 bye.
Sep 28, 2023
Practices fully Thursday
Ford (shoulder) was a full practice participant Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford was limited in the Browns' first Week 4 practice session Wednesday, but the running back's return to a full activity Thursday paves the way for him to lead the backfield Sunday against the Ravens. Even with the Browns re-signing Kareem Hunt (ribs/groin) and making him active for this past Sunday's win over the Titans, Ford still handled a majority of the snaps (55 percent) on offense and accounted for two total touchdowns and 51 yards on 12 touches.
Sep 27, 2023
Limited due to shoulder injury
Ford (shoulder) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Scott Petrak of The Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
This is the first time a shoulder injury has popped up for Ford, who has 182 scrimmage yards and three touchdowns in the last two games since stepping into the lead role following Nick Chubb's season-ending knee injury. A limited showing Wednesday isn't much cause for concern, and Ford can put any doubts about his availability for Sunday's game against Baltimore to rest by practicing fully Thursday or Friday. Kareem Hunt (ribs/groin) and Pierre Strong worked in complementary roles behind Ford in last week's win over Tennessee.
Sep 24, 2023
Two touchdowns as lead back
Ford rushed the ball 10 times for 18 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-3 win over the Titans. He added two receptions on three targets for 33 yards and another touchdown.
ANALYSIS
This was Cleveland's first full game without Nick Chubb (knee), and Ford led the backfield with 12 total touches. However, he didn't dominate work, as both Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong entered the game on the first drive, racking up seven and six touches, respectively. Ford was the least efficient of the backs on the ground, but he managed to salvage his day with a 19-yard touchdown reception and a three-yard plunge into the end zone. He should get another chance to lead Cleveland's backfield in Week 4, but he'll face a tough matchup against the division-rival Ravens.

Still lead back after Hunt signing
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that he still views Ford as the lead back after the Browns re-signed Kareem Hunt, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
At this point in his career, Hunt is more of a threat to poach targets and passing-down snaps than anything else, though his combination of NFL experience and scheme familiarity could help him earn some carries as well. The lead ballcarrier role is Ford's to lose after Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending injury, and the early returns were good with the second-year pro running for 106 yards and scoring a receiving TD in Monday's 26-22 loss to Pittsburgh. It's unclear if Hunt will be active this Sunday against the Titans, and even if he is, Ford will be a comfortable favorite to lead the team in carries.
Sep 19, 2023
Will get look as feature back
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday that Ford will step in as the team's featured running back this weekend versus the Titans, though Cleveland will still look to add another back to the roster after Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending left knee injury in Monday's loss to the Steelers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
While a precise diagnosis of Chubb's injury hasn't yet been provided, Stefanski confirmed that the star running back would require season-ending surgery. After Chubb exited two plays into the second quarter of Monday's contest, Ford stepped in capably in his first extended NFL action, carrying 16 times for 106 yards and adding three catches for 25 yards and a touchdown on four targets. A 69-yard run in which Ford reversed field after encountering a crowd at the line of scrimmage represented the bulk of his production on the ground, as he averaged a more unimpressive 2.5 yards per carry on his other totes. Even so, the 69-yard scamper was demonstrative of the explosive burst Ford brings to the table, and though he can't be expected to match Chubb's effectiveness as a pure runner, Ford may bring more pass-catching upside to the table. Ford could have a path to a three-down role Sunday, though the potential addition of a veteran free agent such as Kareem Hunt -- who spent the past four seasons in Cleveland as Ch

Excels as in-game replacement
Ford rushed 16 times for 106 yards and brought in three of four targets for 25 and a touchdown in the Browns' 26-22 loss to the Steelers on Monday night. He also recorded a two-point conversion rush.
ANALYSIS
Ford took over lead back duties once Nick Chubb went down with what Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports could be a season-ending knee injury early in the second quarter. Ford continued to torment the Steelers' defense in much the same manner as Chubb had before exiting, finishing with a career-high yardage total while also flashing his pass-catching chops. The 2022 fifth-round pick is now in line to helm the Browns' ground attack if Chubb's injury is as bad as feared, although a signing of a free agent veteran such as Kareem Hunt, who is naturally intimately familiar with Cleveland's offense, would interfere with those plans to an extent.
Sep 11, 2023
Logs double-digit carries
Ford rushed 15 times for 38 yards and was not targeted in Sunday's 24-3 win over the Bengals in Week 1.
ANALYSIS
Ford debuted in his new role as Cleveland's top backup to Nick Chubb, who had 18 carries for 106 yards. The backfield took a back seat to the wide receivers in terms of targets, as only four passes were directed to running backs (all to Chubb). Ford did not get a chance to return a kickoff. It was unclear how much use Ford would get after barely seeing time on offense in 2022, but the second-year back was on the field for 30 plays (42 percent share) compared to Chubb's 34 and had as many touches as Kareem Hunt did in last season's opening week.
Aug 29, 2023
Back at practice
Ford (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford had been nursing a hamstring injury, but now that he's back on the field, he'll look to cement his role as Nick Chubb's top backup. Also in the Browns' backfield mix in the wake of Tuesday's roster cuts, is recent trade acquisition Pierre Strong, who slots in as a change-of-pace option for the team.
Aug 22, 2023
Could be ready for Week 1
Coach Kevin Stefanski noted Tuesday that Ford (hamstring) won't practice this week, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
The report adds that Ford is making progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury and the hope is that the running back will be ready for Week 1 action. Once he's back in the mix, Ford is slated to back up Nick Chubb, the Browns' clear-cut lead runner. In his absence, added reps are available for Demetric Felton, John Kelly, Hassan Hall and Jordan Wilkins.
Aug 9, 2023
Labeled week-to-week
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Ford (foot) is week-to-week, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford, who suffered a hamstring injury at practice Monday, won't be available for Friday's preseason game against the Commanders but will be considered week-to-week after that. Once healthy, Ford looks like the lead candidate for the No. 2 backfield role behind Nick Chubb, but that could change if he's forced to miss a substantial amount of first-team reps. Demetric Felton, John Kelly and Hassan Hall will all get increased opportunities to compete as long as Ford is sidelined.
Aug 7, 2023
Injured during practice
Ford left practice early Monday due to a hamstring injury, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegramreports.
ANALYSIS
Ford is currently expected to hold down the No. 2 running back role behind starter Nick Chubb, However, his injury could derail those plans if he has to miss any kind of extended time. Selected in the fifth round of the 2022 Draft, Ford mainly worked as a return man last season, but with the departures of Kareem Hunt and D'Ernest Johnson, the 23-year-old is in line for a significant increase in opportunities in the Browns' offense in 2023. Now he'll need to focus on getting healthy so he can return to the field.
Jul 25, 2023
Gets work at running back
Ford has received a steady dose of reps at running back over the first few practices at training camp, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
This should not come as a surprise, as the Browns let Kareem Hunt and D'Ernest Johnson walk during the offseason, paving the way for Ford to become the top backup to starter Nick Chubb. Of note, Poisal points out Ford is getting a chance to show off his receiving ability out of the backfield. "A big reason that we drafted him in '22 was because of his ability as a receiver, and we think that he'll be able to play that role really well," Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry said. Ford also worked with kick returners Tuesday.
Jun 17, 2023
Will remain top returner
Ford will remain the Browns' top kick returner in 2023, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford, who was Cleveland's primary returner on kickoffs last year, will retain those duties even though his role on offense will expand as the No. 2 behind Nick Chubb. Cleveland running backs coach Stump Mitchell is confident Ford can step in as the top backup, a role handled by Kareem Hunt the last four seasons, noting his work this spring on pass protection.
May 25, 2023
Top man at OTAs
Ford was the first running back in full team drills Wednesday, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Top back Nick Chubb was notably absent from the voluntary OTA program, so Ford moved into the lead role for the practice. He impressed decision-makers as a rookie and appears headed for a larger role in 2023.
May 18, 2023
Next man up behind Chubb
Ford figures to start offseason practices as Cleveland's No. 2 running back, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford played 14 snaps on offense and 145 on special teams as a rookie last year, taking eight carries for 12 yards and 30 kick returns for 723 yards. He's now in a much better position to earn RB reps, as the Browns lost third-stringer D'Ernest Johnson to Jacksonville and seemingly don't plan to re-sign second-stringer Kareem Hunt. The other guys behind Nick Chubb as of mid-May are Demetric Felton, John Kelly, Nate McCrary and UDFA rookie Hassan Hall -- a group with 40 combined NFL carries. Ford, a 2022 fifth-round pick, is the youngest of the bunch and also the only one drafted before the sixth round. His performance over the first two weeks of the 2022 preseason -- 19 carries for 89 yards and a TD plus eight catches for 71 yards and another score -- likely was a big factor in Cleveland carrying four RBs for most of last season and then focusing on other positions this offseason. Of course, there's still time to sign a veteran for training camp if the Browns lose some of their confidence in Ford or deal with
Jan 9, 2023
No run on offense
Ford returned five kickoffs for 93 yards and did not play on offense in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Steelers in Week 18.
ANALYSIS
Ford, who had a season-high five carries last week, was not used as a running back Sunday. Instead, the Browns went with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, much as they did all season. Hunt and fellow back D'Ernest Johnson are in the final year of contracts expected to hit the open market in March. Ford appears poised to become the top backup to Chubb next season.
Jan 2, 2023
Five carries in win
Ford had a season-high five carries for nine yards and returned one kickoff for 23 yards in Sunday's 24-10 win over Washington in Week 17.
ANALYSIS
Ford played a season-high seven snaps on offense, as the Browns, whose postseason chances were eliminated in last week, begin preparations for 2023. The rookie had more touches than Kareem Hunt (two carries, one catch), who is in the final year of his contact. Also notable is that D'Ernest Johnson, in the final year of his deal, did not play on offense. Ford appears to be lining up as Nick Chubb's top backup next season.
Dec 5, 2022
Gets first carries
Ford had three carries for three yards and returned three kickoffs for 48 yards in Sunday's 27-14 win over the Texans in Week 13.
ANALYSIS
Ford had appeared in games as a special teams player only until Sunday, when he played seven snaps on offense and was given his first touches as a running back. With Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt healthy, there isn't much need for a third back. However, it was interesting to see Ford get snaps over D'Ernest Johnson.
Nov 28, 2022
Returns two kicks
Ford returned to two kickoffs for 67 yards in Sunday's 23-17 overtime win over Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Ford continues to provide value as a kickoff returner, but the rookie has yet to play a snap on offense through seven contests. That's unlikely to change as long as Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt are healthy, or possibly if the Browns' playoff chances are scuttled. Ford's 27.4 average kickoff return is tied for tops in the NFL for players with at least 10 returns.
Nov 21, 2022
Limited to return duties
Ford returned two kickoffs for 49 yards in Sunday's 31-23 loss to the Bills in Week 11.
ANALYSIS
Ford has been valuable as a returner, averaging 26.3 yards per return, which ranks third among players with at least 10 returns. Once again, Demetric Felton was inactive, so Ford appears to be in the team's long-range plans.
Nov 14, 2022
Back as returner
Ford returned three kickoffs for 95 yards and did not play on offense in Sunday's 39-17 loss to the Dolphins in Week 10.
ANALYSIS
Ford was activated off injured reserve and made an immediate impact with a 48-yard return on the opening kickoff. That put Cleveland in business to take a 7-0 lead early. Ford missed the bare minimum while on IR. There will be little chance of him elevating to a prominent backfield role, unless the Browns experience multiple injuries up the depth chart. He should serve as the top kickoff returner going forward. Ford may also be the top returner of punts, too, but the Dolphins never had to punt Sunday.
Nov 12, 2022
Back from IR
Cleveland activated Ford (ankle) from its injured reserve list Saturday ahead of Sunday's game at Miami, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out the Browns' last four games, Ford appears to have fully recovered from the ankle injury he sustained in Week 4 versus Atlanta. The fifth-round rookie will likely resume his role as Cleveland's primary kick returner in Week 10.
Nov 7, 2022
Designated to return from IR
Ford (ankle) was designated to return from injured reserve Monday.
ANALYSIS
The Browns now have a 21-day window to either activate Ford or leave him on IR for the remainder of the season. The running back has been out since suffering a left ankle injury in Week 4 versus the Falcons and would likely slide back into a prominent role as a return specialist for Cleveland once healthy.
Oct 4, 2022
Placed on IR
The Browns placed Ford (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Ford suffered the left ankle injury during the team's Week 4 loss to the Falcons and will be sidelined for at least four additional games. The rookie fifth-round pick played exclusively on special teams through the first four games of the season, returning six kickoffs for 145 yards. In his absence, D'Ernest Johnson would be the most likely candidate to take over as the Browns' primary kick returner.
Oct 2, 2022
Forced out in Week 4
Ford (ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Falcons, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Ford has played exclusively on special teams over the first three weeks of the season, netting 111 kick return yards over this span. With the rookie temporary sidelined, D'Ernest Johnson will take over the Browns' primary kick return duties.
Sep 23, 2022
Returns one kick
Ford did not play on offense and returned one kickoff for 15 yards in Thursday's 29-17 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Ford has been the primary returner of kickoffs through three weeks but has yet to get a snap on offense.
Sep 19, 2022
Returns two kicks
Ford returned to kickoffs for 67 yards in Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Jets in Week 2.
ANALYSIS
Ford has been active the first two weeks but has yet to play on offense. There isn't a need as long as Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt are healthy. Ford has returned three kickoffs with an average of 32 yards per return, which ranks third in the league and first among players with more than one attempt.
Aug 28, 2022
Returns kicks Saturday
Ford returned one kickoff for 22 yards in Saturday's preseason finale against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Ford did not play a snap on offense, suggesting the Browns have seen enough of the fifth-round draft pick, who was impressive over the first two preseason games. He's an apparent lock to earn a spot at running back, but with a such a crowded position, the Browns could be looking at the rookie as a returner. Jakeem Grant, a wide receiver signed to be the primary returner for punts and kickoffs, suffered an Achilles injury and is expected to miss most, if not all, of the season. In addition to Ford's usage Saturday, Ja'Marcus Bradley and Mike Harley filled return roles over during preseason action.
Aug 21, 2022
Nice follow up
Ford had nine carries for 31 yards and caught four of four targets for 26 yards in Sunday's preseason game against the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Like in last week's opener, Ford showed off his skill as receiver. The fifth-round draft pick has eight catches on nine targets for 71 yards through two preseason games. Ford wasn't used much as a receiver at the University of Cincinnati, catching just 31 balls over three seasons for the Bearcats, but the Browns unearthed those skills during offseason training activities, per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal. "Since we've gotten him on campus, he's done a very nice job in the pass game. He catches it, runs good routes. That is an element of his game," Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said. Ford is locked as the fourth running back, but he's shown enough thus far to hint at a larger role later in the regular season.
Aug 13, 2022
Shines in preseason opener
Ford had 10 carries for 57 yards, caught four of five targets for 45 yards and scored touchdowns as a runner and receiver in Friday's preseason win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
A nice start for Ford, a fifth-round draft pick in 2022, who showed off his versatility as a runner and receiver. The Browns clearly have a lot of faith in him, but Ford faces a a crowded backfield in front of him. His selection was more about 2023 and beyond, but the University of Cincinnati product could have a role this season if the Browns are eventually forced to trade a running back, like Kareem Hunt or D'Ernest Johnson.
Apr 30, 2022
Joins crowded Cleveland depth chart
The Browns selected Ford in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 156th overall.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear how Ford will carve out playing time after joining a Browns running-back room filled to the brim with talent, but the redshirt junior was a star for Cincinnati last season, tallying 1,319 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns en route to first-team All-AAC honors. The 22-year-old really has solid lateral agility and a good burst through the hole when he sees it, but Ford isn't exactly a tackle breaker and lacks vision near the line of scrimmage. At the very least, Ford should be a solid special teams player and could emerge as a quality backup in spot starts, similar to teammate D'Ernest Johnson.
