Tosses garbage-time TD
Milton completed three of four passes for 58 yards and a touchdown in relief of Dak Prescott during Sunday's 44-24 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
With the game well out of reach, Milton took over for the Cowboys' final two drives of the game and punctuated the first by launching a perfect deep ball to Jalen Tolbert for a 35-yard TD. It was Milton's second late-game appearance of the season, but it likely won't be the last even if Prescott stays healthy given the state of the Dallas roster, as the combination of an elite offense and abysmal defense is a recipe for blowouts.

Sees work in garbage time
Milton completed three of five passes for 41 yards and an interception in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
The second-year QB saw his first regular-season action with the Cowboys, handling the final drive in the fourth quarter and guiding the team down the field into the red zone for a potential score until he overthrew KaVontae Turpin in the end zone for an INT. Milton will only come off the bench in garbage time unless something happens to Dak Prescott, but if he were to get a start, his big arm and mobility could give him some fantasy appeal even if his lack of polish would make him extremely volatile.

Produces two TDs against Falcons
Milton completed 10 of 18 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown and added 33 rushing yards and a TD on four carries in Friday's 31-13 preseason win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
After two very shaky exhibition performances, Milton looked a little more polished Friday, producing Dallas' first points on a one-yard run in the first quarter and then ending his night with a 29-yard TD connection with Jalen Brooks in the third on a pass that required a little finesse to loft it over the defender. The Cowboys traded for Milton to be their new No. 2 quarterback behind Dak Prescott, and this showing may have done enough to reassure the team that the 2024 sixth-round pick is ready to handle the job.

Another preseason start on deck
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that Milton will start Friday's preseason finale against Atlanta, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Schottenheimer said a decision between Milton and Will Grier as the top backup to Dak Prescott, who will rest for a third straight game Friday, hasn't yet been made, per Machota. The head coach also acknowledged Milton's inconsistent showing during last weekend's exhibition loss to Baltimore, in which he completed nine of 18 passes for 122 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception, but said that blame is owed to the entire offense, not just the quarterback, for failing to find a rhythm. In any case, a it looks like the level of play Milton puts on tape during Friday's preseason finale will be crucial in determining his role to begin the 2025 regular season.

Inconsistent showing in loss
Milton completed nine of 18 passes for 122 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 31-13 preseason loss to the Ravens. He added three rushes for six yards.
ANALYSIS
Milton started the game and played well into the fourth quarter as he tried to secure the backup job behind Dak Prescott. Things didn't go all that well for him, as he took a sack in the end zone for a safety on Dallas' first possession, failed to lead a scoring drive in the first half and also threw an interception on an ill-advised attempt into double coverage. Milton did display his excellent arm strength with a 49-yard pass to Jonathan Mingo, but the performance was far too mistake-prone overall.

Heavy workload expected Saturday
Milton will likely play the majority of Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys are still trying to get Milton ready to be Dak Prescott's top backup, whereas No. 3 QB Will Grier is more of a known quantity. Prior to leaving the preseason opener against the Rams with a minor elbow issue, Milton completed 17 of 29 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while adding 22 rushing yards on five carries.

Will start Saturday
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Thursday that Milton (elbow) will start Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Milton was pulled from Dallas' preseason opener against the Rams last weekend early due to an elbow injury, but he's recovered quickly enough that he won't have to miss any exhibition action. The second-year quarterback completed completed 17 of 29 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception versus Los Angeles before being replaced by Will Grier, while also rushing five times for 22 yards.

Departs Saturday with elbow injury
Milton was pulled from Saturday's preseason game against the Rams due to an elbow injury, Clarence Hill Jr. of AllDLLS.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dak Prescott didn't play Saturday, so the Cowboys gave Milton the start. The second-year QB completed 17 of 29 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding five carries for 22 yards on the ground. Milton was eventually replaced by Will Grier in the middle of a fourth-quarter drive, and it appears an elbow injury was the reason for the switch. More information about Milton's status is likely forthcoming.

Slated to start Saturday
Milton is in line to start Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not surprising that the Cowboys are inclined to play it safe with starter Dak Prescott, a scenario that will allow the team to evaluate fellow QBs, Milton and Will Grier. This will mark Milton's game debut with Dallas after coming over in an offseason trade with the Patriots.

Resumes practicing
Milton (thumb) is participating in practice Thursday, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Milton exited Tuesday's joint practice against the Rams early due to a thumb injury, but he's now back in action. The second-year signal-caller figures to be available for Saturday's preseason opener against Los Angeles. Milton is positioned as the No. 2 quarterback behind Dak Prescott, with Will Grier present as the No. 3 option.

Bothered by thumb issue
Milton (hand) was removed from joint practice Tuesday due to a right thumb injury, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Milton was off to a good start at practice against the Rams, but his time was cut short due to a thumb issue. Jerry Jones spoke with the media after practice, explaining that Milton's removal Tuesday can be viewed as precautionary ahead of Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams. The injury is not expected to threaten the quarterback's availability for the contest.

Dealing with hand injury
Milton did not finish Tuesday's joint practice with the Rams due to a hand injury, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Milton appeared to injure his throwing hand on an opposing defender's helmet during practice, which prompted him to be sidelined for the rest of the day while Will Grier worked with the second-team offense. It's unclear how severe Milton's hand injury is, but it does put him in jeopardy of missing more practices this week and potentially Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams.

Will get plenty of reps in camp
Milton is expected to see plenty of reps with the first-team offense during training camp as the Cowboys limit Dak Prescott's workload, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's 2024 campaign ended after Week 9 due to a torn hamstring that required surgery, and while the quarterback has declared himself fully healthy to begin camp, Dallas isn't taking any chances with him. Milton, a sixth-round pick of the Patriots in 2024 who was acquired in an April trade, is still something of a project, but the Cowboys are counting on him to be the No. 2 QB this season, so the more work he can get in camp the better.

Bound for Dallas
The Cowboys acquired Milton and a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Patriots on Thursday in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
A 2024 sixth-round pick, Milton spent most of his rookie season behind Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye on the depth chart but got the chance to play extended snaps in a win over the Bills in Week 18, when he completed 22 of 29 pass attempts for 241 yards and a touchdown to go with 16 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. After the Patriots let Brissett walk in free agency before bringing in a more experienced backup option in Joshua Dobbs to serve as Maye's backup in 2025, Milton will be moved to Dallas, where he'll serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Dak Prescott (hamstring).

Could be available for trade
The Patriots have discussed trading Milton and would like to send him to the right situation to continue his development, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Milton was drafted by the Jerod Mayo and Alex Van Pelt regime in New England last year, and both coaches have since been fired. On Monday, the Patriots signed Joshua Dobbs to serve as Drake Maye's veteran backup, leaving Milton the odd man out in New England. Milton saw extensive action in Week 18 last season and completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown. He rushed 10 times for 16 yards and an additional score, leading the Patriots to an upset win over the Bills and knocking New England out of the No. 1 pick in the 2025 Draft. Milton has loads of upside and a rocket arm and could probably fetch a mid-round pick.

Produces two TDs in pro debut
Milton completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown while adding 16 rushing yards and a TD on 10 carries in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
With nothing on the line for either team, Drake Maye played the first series before exiting the game and handing the offense over to Milton, who was making his NFL debut. The 2024 sixth-round pick looked good, albeit against a Buffalo defense resting a lot of key personnel, and he ran in a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter before connecting with Kayshon Boutte (head) on a 48-yard score in the second after Milton flashed some impressive elusiveness against the Bills' pass rush. While there are still questions about whether Milton's throwing mechanics and accuracy issues will allow him to succeed in the NFL, his athleticism should keep him in New England as a backup to Maye in 2025.

Active for season finale
Milton is listed as active for Sunday's game versus the Bills.
ANALYSIS
As is starter Drake Maye, as well as veteran backup Jacoby Brissett. However, Milton, who has been serving as the Patriots' No. 3 emergency quarterback, could potentially enter the team's season finale at some point in order to have him log some snaps to see how he looks, with an eye toward assessing whether he might be a viable No. 2 option behind Maye in 2025, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.

Inactive for Week 1
Milton is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Though Milton made the Patriots' 53-man roster, he remains the team's clear-cut No. 3 option at QB. He thus figures to be a regular scratch as long as both Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye are healthy.

Encouraging performance Thursday
Milton completed four of six passes for 54 yards and a touchdown and added five rushes for 22 yards in the Patriots' 17-3 preseason win over the Panthers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Milton entered the game with 4:01 remaining in the third quarter and got off on the right foot with a five-yard completion to fellow rookie Javon Baker. Milton went on to record a 12-yard scramble during that initial possession before capping off his second drive with a 38-yard touchdown pass to JaQuae Jackson with nine minutes remaining in the game. Milton is battling incumbent Bailey Zappe for the No. 3 quarterback job, who was solid in his own right Thursday while throwing for 108 yards. Nevertheless, Milton at least makes the competition a bit more intriguing with this debut effort, and the rookie sixth-round pick could certainly get a more extensive platform to make his case in the Patriots' second preseason game next Thursday night against the Eagles.
