Douglas trailed only Shaq Thompson and Jeremy Chinn for Carolina's team lead in stops. The veteran also played every defensive snap and could grow in importance should fellow corner Donte Jackson's toe injury from Sunday sideline him further.

Douglas finished with seven solo tackles, including one for loss, in Sunday's 31-17 loss to the Buccaneers.

Douglas led his team in stops while assuming a starting position just a couple weeks after joining the Panthers. In two games, Douglas has held up relatively well on the outside, putting him in line for another start in Week 3 versus the Chargers.

Douglas will start at one of the cornerback positions for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, Myles Simmons of the Panthers' official site reports.

The 25-year-old handled 51 defensive snaps in Week 1's loss to Las Vegas, but he'll likely assume a larger role come Week 2. Douglas will take over for rookie Troy Pride, set to try to slow down a Tom Brady-led Buccaneer offense.

Douglas was claimed off waivers by the Panthers on Sunday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Douglas failed to make the roster in Philadelphia despite recording 35 tackles and 10 pass breakups last season. With Eli Apple dealing with a hamstring problem, Douglas could see a decent role right away for Week 1 against the Raiders.

The Eagles waived Douglas on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The 2017 third-round pick started six games for the Eagles last season, and he recorded 35 tackles and 10 pass breakups. However, his coverage wasn't up to par, so the Eagles let him go before his rookie contract expired. Darius Slay, Nickell Robey-Coleman and Avonte Maddox (lower body) are expected to be the top-three corners in Philly moving forward.

Douglas recorded 35 tackles and 20 pass breakups over 16 regular-season games in 2019.

Douglas works in a reserve role when the secondary is healthy, but Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby (hip) battled injuries this year that afforded Douglas six starts. He's a serviceable fill-in, allowing 9.1 yards per target and a 56.9 completion percentage in coverage. His prospects of starting in 2020 rely on what the Eagles do in free agency and the draft. Douglas has one year left on his rookie contract, and Mills and Darby are both set to be free agents in March.
