Will not play Monday
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said that Thomas (calf) will not play Monday versus the Raiders, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas appears to be dealing with a calf injury suffered near the end of the Cowboys' Week 9 game against the Cardinals. The 30-year-old veteran was unable to practice Thursday in any capacity, despite coming off a Week 10 bye. Jay Toia could be in line for an increase in playing time with Thomas out.

Doesn't practice Thursday
Thomas (calf) did not participate in Thursday's practice, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
The lone Cowboy to not practice in any capacity Thursday, Thomas is still dealing with a calf injury he suffered in the Week 9 loss to the Cardinals. The fact the defensive tackle was unable to practice despite a full week of rest due to the Cowboys' Week 10 bye signals he will likely not be ready to play in Monday's contest against the Raiders. For any chance to suit up, Thomas would need to log practice in at least a limited capacity in the Friday and Saturday sessions.

Hurts calf, exits Week 9 matchup
Thomas is questionable to return to Monday's clash against the Cardinals due to a calf issue.
ANALYSIS
Thomas was deemed questionable to return with less than six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, so there's not much time for him to get back on the field. He logged one tackle prior to his exit.

Agrees to deal with Dallas
The Cowboys are in line to sign Thomas to a two-year contract worth up to $8 million, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas is coming off three consecutive productive seasons with the Jets, with 26 total tackles (15 solo), including 3.5 sacks, plus two passes defended and one forced fumble across 16 regular-season appearances in 2024. His arrival in Dallas will bolster the team's interior defensive line, a unit headlined by the recently extended Osa Odighizuwa and 2023 first-rounder Mazi Smith.

Productive in 2024
Thomas tallied 26 total tackles (15 solo), including 3.5 sacks, two passes defended and one forced fumble over 16 games in 2024.
ANALYSIS
Despite starting just one game in 2024, Thomas was relatively productive, playing 430 defensive snaps and ranking fifth on the Jets' defense in tackles for loss (five) and sacks. While his tackle (31 to 26) and sack (5.0 to 3.5) totals declined from his 2023 campaign, he played 36 fewer defensive snaps this season and recorded more passes defended (two to one) and forced fumbles (one to zero) than in 2023. Thomas is now set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer after signing a one-year, $2.35 million deal with the Jets last offseason. If he remains with the Jets in 2025, he's likely to serve as one of the team's top reserve defensive linemen.

Returning to action Sunday
Thomas (knee) is active for Sunday's Week 11 clash against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Thomas missed last Sunday's contest against the Cardinals due to a knee injury that he suffered on Halloween against Houston. However, the defensive lineman was able to finish this week with a pair of limited practice sessions, setting him up to play against Indianapolis. Thomas has 2.5 sacks through nine contests on the campaign.

Won't suit up in Week 10
Thomas (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's clash against the Cardinals, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas hurt his knee in New York's Halloween game against Houston, and though he was able to return to that contest, he wasn't able to practice at all this week. The defensive lineman has played a rotational role for the Jets this season, logging less than half of the team's defensive snaps each of the past six weeks. With Thomas out Sunday, Leonard Taylor could see more than his usual allotment of defensive snaps.

Back in game
Thomas (knee) returned to the field in the second quarter of Thursday's contest against the Texans, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas was briefly sidelined with a knee injury that he suffered in the first half against Houston, but he was able to quickly return. The 29-year-old is back in his role as a depth option on New York's defensive line.
Oct 31, 2024
Questionable to return
Thomas (knee) is questionable to return to Thursday's game against the Texans.
ANALYSIS
The defensive lineman did not record a stat before exiting. Thomas has 15 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, a pass breakup and a forced fumble on the year. Leonard Taylor is New York's other backup defensive tackle.

Back with New York
The Jets re-signed Thomas on Friday, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old defensive lineman is now in line to remain in New York after spending the last two seasons with the Jets. Thomas has appeared in 34 games over the past two years, recording 53 total tackles, including 5.5 sacks (5.0 in 2023) and an additional 3.5 tackles for loss. The 2017 first-round pick has started just three games during his time in New York, so he'll likely compete for another depth role on the Jets' defensive line this offseason.

Notches career-high fifth sack
Thomas had three tackles (two solo), including one sack, in Sunday's 30-0 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
The Jets struggled on both sides of the ball, but the sack was a nice bright spot for Thomas. He's up to a career-high five sacks in 2023, including four in the last seven games.
Nov 13, 2023
Boosts season sack total to 2.5
Thomas notched a sack among his three tackles (one solo) in Sunday's 16-12 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Thomas has 2.5 sacks in 2023, 1.5 of which have come in the last two games. He accounted for one of the three sacks New York mustered against rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell in the low-scoring loss.

Returning to Jets
The Jets agreed to re-sign Thomas to a one-year deal worth up to $3.9 million, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas first signed with the Jets on a one-year, $2.25 million contract last offseason following one campaign with the Raiders. This deal re-united the 6-foot-2 interior defensive lineman with Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who served as served as Thomas' defensive coordinator in San Francisco from 2017 to 2020. The 27-year-old went on to record double-digit tackles for just the second time in his career while playing in the Jets' deep rotation of defensive linemen. Thomas now figures to reprise a similar role alongside star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams this coming season.

Reunites with coach Saleh
Thomas signed a contract with the Jets on Monday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas played under Jets head coach Robert Saleh from 2017 to 2020 during their time with the 49ers. During that span, the 2017 first-round pick totaled 95 tackles and six sacks across 48 appearances. Thomas spent last season with the Raiders, registering 34 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles across 17 games. He figures to be a key piece along the Jets' defensive line in 2022.

Posts two sacks in victory
Thomas recorded two sacks and a pass defensed in Sunday's 26-17 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Thomas saw his playing time increase Week 2 after fellow defensive tackle Gerald McCoy (knee) was placed on injured reserve, and the former 49er stepped up by notching his first sack since Week 6 of the 2019 regular season. Thomas figures to continue rotating with Darius Philon for snaps behind starters Quinton Jefferson and Johnathan Hankins.

Makes quick recovery from ACL tear
Thomas (knee) participated in spring practices and appears ready for the start of training camp, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The third overall pick from the 2017 Draft had a disappointing end to his tenure with the 49ers, tearing the ACL, lateral meniscus and medial patellofemoral ligament in his left knee in Week 2 last season. Thomas then signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract with the Raiders in March, and an aggressive rehab program got him back on the practice field just seven months after the initial injury. He won't necessarily be a starter in Las Vegas, but he'll at least have the opportunity to earn snaps off the bench at both defensive end and defensive tackle.
Mar 17, 2021
Signs in Las Vegas
Thomas (knee) signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Raiders on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas is still rehabbing from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 2, but he's expected to be ready for training camp. The 2017 third overall pick posted career highs in tackles (41) and sacks (three) during his rookie season, and his role steadily dropped off over the next three seasons before his injury. Thomas has a chance to redefine his career in Las Vegas. He'll battle fellow defensive tackles Maurice Hurst (calf) and Kendal Vickers for playing time.

On track in recovery
Thomas (knee) is taking part in strength work and nearing a running program, and he's expected to be ready for training camp, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old went down with a knee injury Week 2 and subsequently underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL, lateral meniscus and medial patellofemoral ligament, but he's progressing well in his recovery. Thomas will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason after recording six sacks across four seasons in San Francisco.
Sep 23, 2020
Placed on IR
The 49ers placed Thomas (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Thomas joins fellow starting defensive lineman Nick Bosa (knee) on injured reserve with a season-ending injury. The 2017 first-round pick will undergo surgery in the near future, and barring any setbacks in his recovery he should be on track for 2021 without issue. The 49ers signed Ezekiel Ansah to a one-year deal and promoted Dion Jordan to the active roster in corresponding moves.
Sep 21, 2020
Torn ACL confirmed
Thomas suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's win over the Jets, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The tests results came back as most feared they would and now Thomas will miss the remainder of the 2020 season. An absolutely devastating day for the 49ers' defensive line, losing both Thomas and Nick Bosa (knee) for the season. Before going down, Thomas recorded two tackles across 49 defensive snaps on the year. Look for 2020 first-round selection Javon Kinlaw to see an even higher snap count as the season progresses with Thomas out. Reserves Kentavius Street and Kevin Givens could also see more reps as a result.
Sep 21, 2020
May have injured ACL
The 49ers believe Thomas may have sustained an ACL injury during Sunday's win over the Jets, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Maiocco stopped short of saying Thomas tore his ACL, but the team will likely run an MRI to see the extent of the damage. With Nick Bosa expected to be done for the year with a torn ACL, Thomas' potential season-ending injury is another hit to team's defensive line.
Sep 20, 2020
Won't return Sunday
Thomas (knee) was officially ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jets, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Thomas needed to be carted off the field in the first quarter due to the knee injury, and along with Nick Bosa (knee), they've both been ruled out. With Thomas sidelined, Kevin Givens appears in line to see an uptick in snaps at defensive tackle. Expect an update on Thomas' status in the coming days.

Leaves field on cart
Thomas (knee) needed to be carted off the field during Sunday's game against the Jets, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
More disasterous news for the 49ers, as both Thomas and Nick Bosa needed to be carted off the field during Sunday's game in the first quarter. Thomas was down on the field in pain, seeming to tend to his left knee. As long as he's out, Kevin Givens appears in line to see an uptick in snaps at defensive tackle.
Aug 23, 2020
Will play more on interior
Thomas will be moved to the inside and used more as a pass-rushing defensive tackle this season, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.
ANALYSIS
Thomas has struggled winning battles against offensive tackles over his first three seasons as a pro, so the 49ers will look to move him to defensive tackle in 2020. The 2017 third-overall pick bulked up to 282 pounds this offseason, and while he is still undersized as a traditional defensive tackle against the run, he is having success in camp at beating his inside assignments against guards and centers in passing situations. Expect Thomas to be utilized in that role in nickel and lighter formations, possibly splitting time with either D.J. Jones or Javon Kinlaw. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 25-year-old surpass his career high of just three sacks despite seeing fewer snaps overall.
May 1, 2020
Fifth-year option declined
Thomas had his fifth-year option declined by the 49ers on Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The former No.3 overall pick in 2017 has underperformed expectations to an extreme degree through his first three seasons, and the 49ers will not agree to keep him through 2021 at this stage. Thomas saw his snap count drop from 646 in 2018 to 428 in 2019 as he became a rotational piece on San Francisco's defensive line. He will get one more season to change his perception before he hits free agency in 2021.
Feb 21, 2020
"Bust" label sticks in third season
Thomas had 21 tackles (15 solo) and two sacks over 16 games during the 2019 regular season.
ANALYSIS
Thomas -- a former second-overall pick -- spent most of the season as a backup and situational interior rusher on third downs. The Stanford product was given a brief opportunity to show off his skills as an edge rusher when multiple defensive ends went down to injury mid-season, but he simply did not look comfortable in that role at all. San Francisco boasts the best defensive line in football, so Thomas should remain a backup even if the team does not bring Arik Armstead back this upcoming offseason.
