Can Ryan Pepiot Sustain Success?
The Tampa Bay Rays brought back Ryan Pepiot from the IL last week. In his first start, he faced 22 batters and held them to a .000 ISO and wOBA of .234.
But it’s hard to imagine Pepiot sustaining this success. After all, he allowed 36.5% of fly balls to 170 righties and has given up a .156 ISO to 204 lefties this season.
He’s also allowed 46% of hard contact and has only thrown 86 pitches per start this season. There are ways to attack Pepiot.
Easy Balls In Play
Oakland will counter with Mitch Spence. Spence is a right-handed pitcher who has struck out only 13.6% of righties over the last month. He’s also allowed a .179 ISO and wOBA of .340 to his previous 88 batters while allowing a 43.9% hard contact rate.
He’ll battle a Rays lineup that has been inconsistent. But guys like Brandon Lowe, Josh Lowe, and Dylan Carlson have led the way with some quality hitting against righties over the last month.
