Ligue 1 Betting Odds

Ligue 1, also known as the French League 1, is France’s flagship professional soccer division and currently houses some of the most elite footballers on the planet. As such, it is a huge game that is massively popular with billions of sports fans and bettors alike for all 38 matches per season. Key players like Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Martin Terrier, Marco Verratti, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Dimitri Payet and Jonathan David reside at one of the many top clubs in the French League such as Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Olympique de Marseille, or LOSC Lille.

Operated by the Ligue de Football Professionnel, the Ligue 1 season starts in early August and runs to May every year and is contested by 20 clubs that compete against each other in exciting football games on two occasions (Home and Away) to determine who the French Champions will be.

As one of the top five European leagues, Ligue 1 regularly provides an abundance of domestic and cup game fixtures for the sportsbooks to create soccer odds. The betting odds for Ligue 1 will be discussed and explained in today’s article, as we aim to provide you with the most valuable betting information that’s all about Ligue 1.

Understanding Ligue 1 Odds

You can compare, wager on, and study the best Ligue 1 odds for the biggest teams here at OddsTrader in addition to a lot more sports content, but it’s imperative to understand how the betting lines for French football work.

Ligue 1 Moneyline

A Ligue 1 Moneyline wager, similar to every other major sports league, is the most popular betting market in French soccer. It provides bettors with a simplistic option when betting; all you have to do is pick a winner.

Ligue 1 Moneyline [3-way] soccer odds example:

  • Paris Saint-Germain [-200]
  • Draw [+250]
  • Olympique Lyonnais [+180]

The above example shows PSG as the betting favorite in an American odds format at -200. A $200 wager would return a $100 profit, or a $20 would return a $10 profit. We use rounded stakes to give you a clearer understanding of the potential betting returns. Opposite PSG is Lyon, the betting underdogs, with a price of +180. A $100 bet would return $180 profit or $10 = $18 profit.

However, you must be cautious when approaching this market because, unlike most American sports leagues, 3-way Moneyline markets involve a tie game. While a 3-way Moneyline doesn’t result in a push when a winner isn’t decided due to a draw, the odds are more lucrative. Bettors wanting to avoid 3-way Moneylines should look for ‘draw no bet’, as this market will remove the tie-game result and return your stake should the game end in a draw.

Alternatively, you can use the 3-way Moneyline market to bet on the draw. In our above example, a tie-game between PSG and Lyon would return $250 from a $100 stake.

Ligue 1 Totals (Over/Under)

Ligue 1 totals betting, or Over/Under, is an option in soccer betting where you wager on the total number of actual goals scored during a game. You can pick the Over or the Under from a total set by the sportsbook. If the oddsmaker set the total for PSG vs. Lyon at 2.5, and you bet on the Over, you would need the fixture to produce three or more goals. If you bet the UNDER 2.5, the game would need to see two goals or fewer for your bet to win.

Ligue 1 Futures

The France League 1 (Ligue 1) championship trophy is given to the team accumulating the most points throughout an entire 38-game season and placing in 1st position of the standings. PSG is the most successful Ligue 1 side, with ten titles won since the league’s inception in 1930, and they’re the current defending champions from the 2021/22 campaign. If you believe PSG can claim their 11th title this season, Ligue 1 future bets could be for you.

Bettors can predict and wager on which team they believe can win Ligue 1, or they can bet on the French domestic cup competitions like Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions. Ligue 1 future bets can be placed before or during the season. That said, the available odds for the best teams – if they’re successful mid-season – decrease in value but also give bettors a clearer view of a team’s form.

Ligue 1 Live Betting Odds

Every top online sportsbooks found at OddsTrader allows their customers to place wagers during a live game for all of the most popular sports. Did PSG concede an early goal, and now their Moneyline odds have skyrocketed? Here’s your chance to claim fantastic value on the Ligue 1 winners by taking advantage of the live sports betting odds.

When competitive soccer matches play out, live betting odds can deliver some of the most lucrative prices you wouldn’t find pre-game. This is true for any of the biggest matches in all professional sports. Live betting is an excellent option for value hunters betting Ligue 1, and you’ll also find a vast selection of wagering options similar to what you would before the game started — including a variety of team and player prop bets — which you can enjoy during the upcoming season.

French Ligue 1 Betting Strategy

When conjuring up a Ligue 1 betting strategy, you should ALWAYS research the games before you bet on them. The variables involved throughout a 38-game season can provide significant differences game-to-game.

For example, if PSG competes in the Champions League, the manager could rest some of his key players. The player odds or team odds won’t often reflect these squad changes, but your betting choice may differ from what it usually would with PSG’s strongest XI.

It would be best if you also considered previous season and current season performances. A team could have been a top team last year, but if they aren’t performing to the same level in the new season’s soccer matches, it could be time to fade them.

Ligue 1 is a long season; you should remain disciplined with your bankroll and ensure you’ve researched every game you plan to wager on.

What is Ligue 2?

Ligue 2 is the second division of French football, a league below Ligue 1 but above the Championnat National. Teams in this league can gain Ligue 2 promotion to Ligue 1 if they’re successful or be relegated to the lowest division in French soccer, the Championnat National. In addition, teams that fall into the bottom three positions of Ligue 1 at the end of a season are relegated to Ligue 2.

While Ligue 2 is an all-professional league, it also allows amateur players and teams from the Championnat National on the brink of professionalism to become so. However, should a club be a victim of relegation to the Championnat National, their professional status can be revoked.
