Tosses four frames
Silseth allowed one run on two hits and three walks over four innings in Friday's win over Oakland. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Silseth returned from the injured list Friday to make his first appearance since Aug. 26. The lone damage against him was Brent Rooker's RBI double in the third inning. Silseth posted a 3.96 ERA with a 56:26 K:BB through 52.1 MLB innings this season. In seven MLB appearances since the All-Star break, he registered a 3.21 ERA.
Sep 28, 2023
Back from injured list
The Angels reinstated Silseth from the 7-day concussion IL on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Silseth landed on the 7-day injured list Aug. 29, but lingering discomfort and uneasiness prolonged his stay. He made two rehab starts with Triple-A Salt Lake, giving up two runs over 3.2 innings while striking out five batters and walking sixth, and he is now set to make his final major-league start of the season Friday versus Oakland. Kolton Ingram was optioned to Salt Lake in a corresponding move.
Sep 27, 2023
Rejoining rotation Friday
Silseth (concussion) is scheduled to return from the 7-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Athletics at Angel Stadium, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth's availability for the rest of the season looked to be in question after he suffered a concussion Aug. 26 when he was struck on the head by an errant throw, but he cleared up any concerns about his health by making rehab starts with Triple-A Salt Lake on Sept. 17 and 22. In his most recent outing with Salt Lake this past weekend, Silseth tossed 60 pitches and 3.1 scoreless innings, so he should be capable of giving the Angels something close to a traditional start as he steps back into the rotation for the final series of the season.
Sep 23, 2023
Makes second rehab start
Silseth (concussion) made his second rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, striking out four and scattering two hits and four walks over 3.1 scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Silseth retired just one batter while giving up two runs in his first rehab outing for Salt Lake this past Sunday, but he fared much better while returning to the bump five days later. Though he wasn't especially efficient, Silseth stretched out to 60 pitches (29 strikes) and looks as though he'll be a candidate to return from the 7-day injured list for the final week of the season. Silseth could slot into the Angels rotation as soon as next Wednesday against the Rangers, though next weekend's series versus Oakland might be a more realistic target for his return.
Sep 18, 2023
Inefficient in short rehab start
Silseth (concussion) recorded one out and allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks in his rehab start Sunday for Triple-A Salt Lake.
ANALYSIS
Silseth spotted just 14 of his 30 pitches for strikes in what was his first outing since he landed on the Angels' 7-day injured list Aug. 29 after being diagnosed with a concussion. It's unclear whether the Angels' plan was for Silseth to make only a brief rehab start Sunday, or if he was lifted from the outing early due to some sort of physical issue. Even if Silseth came out of the rehab start with a clean bill of health and is activated from the IL to fill the opening in the big club's six-man rotation this coming weekend in Minnesota, he could be held to a limited pitch count in his return.
Sep 17, 2023
Making rehab start Sunday
Silseth (concussion) is making a rehab start with Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander continues to work his way back from the concussion he suffered on a cross-infield throw in late August, and his return to game action is a strong indication he's close to rejoining the Angels. If he only requires the one rehab start, Silseth could be back in the Halos' rotation next weekend in Minnesota.
Sep 13, 2023
Return date uncertain
Angels manager Phil Nevin said Monday that Silseth (concussion) won't be an option to start Wednesday's series finale in Seattle, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. "There's just little minor things that are still affecting him a little bit," Nevin said of Silseth. "He's building up his workouts. He's building up his bullpens...got to get through everything without any sort of discomfort and any uneasiness."
ANALYSIS
Silseth has seemingly made progress in his recovery from the concussion since landing on the 7-day injured list Aug. 29, but the young right-hander looks like he won't be an option to pitch this week while he continues to build his arm back up following the recent shutdown. The Angels will thus need to break in a new starter into their six-man rotation Wednesday, though a replacement has yet to be named.
Sep 7, 2023
Won't pitch this weekend
Manager Phil Nevin said Wednesday that Silseth (concussion) won't be activated from the 7-day injured list to pitch during the Angels' four-game series with the Guardians that begins Thursday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
The Angels are still planning to maintain a six-man rotation even though Silseth won't be able to pitch this weekend. Anaheim is set to call up Davis Daniel from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill the sixth spot in the rotation Thursday, while Griffin Canning, Tyler Anderson and Kenny Rosenberg have been named as the Angels' starters from Friday through Sunday. According to MLB.com, Silseth is still dealing with some discomfort after he sustained a concussion when he was hit in the head by an errant throw in his Aug. 26 start versus the Mets.
Aug 29, 2023
Placed on concussion IL
The Angels placed Silseth on the 7-day concussion injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Aug. 27.
ANALYSIS
Silseth had to be hospitalized after taking a cross-infield throw to the back of the head during his start Saturday against the Mets. He was initially cleared of a concussion, but the Angels will play it safe with the 23-year-old right-hander as he continues to be evaluated. Silseth has pitched to a 4.10 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 53:23 K:BB through 48.1 innings (seven starts, eight relief appearances) this season.
Aug 27, 2023
Discharged from hospital
Silseth (head) was released from the hospital Saturday and hasn't been diagnosed with a concussion, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. "I think we avoided something serious but with head injuries you always want to be cautious," Nevin said of Silseth.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was sent to the hospital for observation after exiting his start in Saturday's 5-3 win in the fourth inning, when he was hit in the head when teammate Trey Cabbage threw the baseball across the diamond. The right-hander was down on the field for several minutes before walking off the field under his own power, but he was still sent to the hospital, only to be discharged hours later. While Silseth appears to have avoided any concussion symptoms for the time being and is believed to be dealing with only a headache, he's still not guaranteed to make his next turn through the rotation, which would likely fall next weekend in Oakland.
Aug 26, 2023
Undergoing tests at hospital
Silseth is undergoing tests at the hospital after being struck in the back of the head by a throw in Saturday's game versus the Mets, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
ANALYSIS
First baseman Trey Cabbage was trying to throw a runner out at third base in the fourth inning but hit Silseth before the ball could reach its intended destination. Weston notes that Silseth was alert and speaking before leaving for the hospital and even joked whether he was covering the right base, which seems like a good sign. The Angels will update the pitcher's status once the results of the tests are in.
Aug 26, 2023
Exits after taking throw to head
Silseth was removed from Saturday's start versus the Mets in the fourth inning after a throw across the infield hit him in the back of the head, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Angels were trying to cut down a runner with a throw from first to third base, but Silseth was in the line of fire and was struck in the back of the head. He was down on the field for several minutes before eventually walking off with a little help. The right-hander is surely set to go through concussion testing. Silseth was charged with two runs on two hits and two walks over 3.1 innings before departing.
Aug 20, 2023
Struggles in Saturday start
Silseth allowed five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 3.2 innings in a no-decision in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Tampa Bay on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Though Silseth fell behind by two runs in the first frame, the Angels bounced back to give him a 6-2 lead through three innings. The right-hander couldn't take advantage, however, as he was lifted with two outs in the fourth. Silseth surrendered three runs on four hits and a walk in that frame, with two of the knocks against him leaving the park. The 23-year-old nailed down a spot in the rotation on the strength of a four-start stretch between July 19 and Aug. 13 during which he posted a 1.59 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 31:5 K:BB across 22.2 innings. Saturday's poor outing probably won't lead to him leaving the rotation, though it's worth noting that Griffin Canning -- who has come out of the bullpen in each of his past two appearances after starting in each of his initial 16 contests this season -- took the win Saturday as a result of giving up just one run over 3.1 frames.
Aug 14, 2023
Throws five scoreless
Silseth (4-1) tossed five scoreless innings to earn the win over the Astros on Sunday. He allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out five.
ANALYSIS
Silseth continued his run of dominance since being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake July 19. He's made four starts all against teams currently over .500 and holds a 1.59 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 31:5 K:BB in 22.2 innings. The one negative is that manager Phil Nevin has allowed Silseth to throw more then 85 pitches just once over that span and therefore he's only reached six innings once. The Angels just returned Griffin Canning from the injured list Sunday, which congests the rotation; however, it seems safe to say Silseth's starting spot is secure for now given the season-long struggles for Tyler Anderson and the recent struggles for Reid Detmers.
Aug 7, 2023
Fans 12 in no-decision
Silseth allowed two runs on four hits and a walk over seven innings in Sunday's loss to Seattle. He struck out 12 and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was outstanding Sunday, forcing a career-high 21 whiffs while punching out 12 Mariners. He coughed up a pair of solo homers and the Angels offense went missing again, costing him a third straight win. Over his last three starts, the 23-year-old righty has compiled an impressive 26:3 K:BB and 2.04 ERA through 17.2 innings. Silseth will carry a 3.72 ERA into his next outing, which is lined up to be in Houston.
Aug 2, 2023
Sticking around in rotation
Silseth is scheduled to start Sunday versus the Mariners at Angel Stadium.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was expected to lose his spot in the rotation after the Angels acquired Lucas Giolito from the White Sox last week, but the right-hander will end up making two starts this week after Griffin Canning (calf) was unexpectedly scratched Monday before moving to the 15-day injured list a day later. The Angels are hopeful that Canning will be able to return from the IL when first eligible July 13, so Silseth's upcoming start could be his last before he heads back to the bullpen or Triple-A Salt Lake. Silseth has held his own against the Yankees and Atlanta his last two times out, picking up wins on both occasions while striking out 14 and issuing only two walks over 10.2 innings.
Aug 1, 2023
Solid in spot start
Silseth (3-1) earned the win over Atlanta on Monday, pitching five innings and allowing one run on three hits while striking out four batters. He didn't issue any walks.
ANALYSIS
Silseth got a turn in the rotation due to Griffin Canning (general soreness) being a late scratch, and the former delivered a strong five frames during which he yielded just one run on a solo shot by Matt Olson. Prior to Monday, Silseth hadn't seen any game action since he held the Yankees to one run and notched a career-high 10 strikeouts over 5.2 innings in a start July 19. Despite the consecutive excellent outings, Silseth will likely return to the bullpen moving forward, as Canning expects to take his next turn in the rotation and the Angels recently added another starter in Lucas Giolito.
Jul 31, 2023
Making spot start Monday
Silseth will start Monday's game in Atlanta, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was squeezed out of the Angels' six-man rotation after the acquisition of Lucas Giolito last week, but the young right-hander will end up getting a spot start Monday after Griffin Canning was scratched due to general soreness. Canning is optimistic that he'll be ready to go when his next turn through the rotation comes up this weekend, so Silseth could head back to the bullpen immediately after Monday's start. Silseth holds a 4.44 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 24.1 innings this season and won't make for a reliable streaming option Monday in a road matchup versus a talented Atlanta offense.
Jul 29, 2023
Back in bullpen
Silseth has been pushed out of the Angels' rotation and will rejoin the bullpen, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The arrival of Lucas Giolito created a logjam in the Angels' rotation, and now that Patrick Sandoval has been confirmed as Tuesday's starter against Atlanta, Silseth becomes the odd man out. Silseth has bounced back and forth between the bullpen and rotation all season, putting up a 4.44 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through 24.1 innings in the process.
Jul 27, 2023
Not starting Thursday
Silseth is no longer set to start Thursday, as the Angels will instead have Shohei Ohtani and Patrick Sandoval start Games 1 and 2, respectively, of the team's series-ending doubleheader in Detroit, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After Wednesday's game was postponed due to inclement weather, Silseth and Patrick Sandoval -- who had been scheduled to start Wednesday -- were initially announced as the team's starters for the twin bill. However, the Angels later reversed course and moved Shohei Ohtani up from his start Friday in Toronto to start Thursday. The change may have been related to the Angels' acquisition Wednesday of Lucas Giolito, who is expected to settle into the Los Angeles rotation right away and will likely make his team debut during the Toronto series. The arrival of Giolito now gives the Halos seven starters, and Silseth will most likely find himself as the odd man out if manager Phil Nevin elects to maintain a six-man rotation moving forward. The Angels haven't clarified their plans for Silseth, who could move to the bullpen or perhaps return to Triple-A Salt Lake to stay on a regular starting schedule.
Jul 23, 2023
Sticks around in rotation
Silseth will start Thursday's game against the Tigers at Comerica Park, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth will unsurprisingly draw a second straight turn through the rotation after he struck out a career-high 10 while allowing one run in 5.2 innings in a win over the Yankees on July 19 following his promotion from Triple-A Salt Lake. He ended up taking over the rotation spot of Jaime Barria, who was moved to the bullpen coming out of the All-Star break.
Jul 19, 2023
Fans career-high 10 batters
Silseth (2-1) earned the win over the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters over 5.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was called up from Triple-A earlier in the day and dominated New York in just his second big-league start of the season. The right-hander racked up 14 whiffs and a career-best 10 strikeouts -- his previous MLB high mark was six. Silseth has compiled a 2.79 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 44:14 K:BB over 42 innings in the minors this season, but he had yet to show much in the majors, posting a 6.08 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 7.4 K/9 over 47.1 career innings coming into Wednesday. Given the impressive performance against the Yankees, there's a chance he could stick as the Angels' sixth starter moving forward, though fantasy managers may want to see a larger sample of success before considering him as a waiver-wire addition.
Jul 19, 2023
Called up for start
The Angels recalled Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Silseth will make just his second major-league start of the year Wednesday against the Yankees after taking five underwhelming rotation turns at Triple-A. The 23-year-old right-hander holds a career 6.08 ERA in the bigs and is not a recommended fantasy streamer.
Jul 19, 2023
Starting for Halos on Wednesday
Silseth will be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday to start against the Yankees, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was optioned to Triple-A on June 3 and has since put up a 4.50 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 22 innings across five starts. Despite his unimpressive performance, he'll be called upon to start Wednesday. Silseth has only two major-league appearances this year that lasted at least three innings.
Jun 3, 2023
Sent out to Triple-A
Silseth was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jose Soriano will join the Angels' bullpen in a corresponding roster move. Silseth has posted a 5.30 ERA and 15:13 K:BB in 18.2 innings this season at the MLB level.
May 21, 2023
Moving back to bullpen
Manager Phil Nevin said Sunday that Silseth will move back to the bullpen to serve as a high-leverage reliever, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth made his first start of the season Tuesday against the Orioles, but Jaime Barria will take the mound to begin Monday's series opener against the Red Sox. Silseth performed better in shorter relief appearances earlier this year, tossing five scoreless innings while picking up a hold over his first three appearances of the season.
May 16, 2023
Drops first start
Silseth (0-1) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over 3.1 innings against the Orioles. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Silseth, making his first start this season after beginning the year in the bullpen, was tagged for three runs in the fourth inning en route to the loss. Overall, the 22-year-old right-hander has a 5.40 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB through 11.2 innings. Silseth could still get another look in the rotation while Jose Suarez (shoulder) is sidelined. His next start would likely come next week against Boston.
May 13, 2023
Scheduled to start Tuesday
Silseth is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth pitched exclusively as a starter last season but struggled to a 6.59 ERA in seven starts. He's pitched out of the bullpen since his late-April call-up this season and owns a 3.24 ERA in 8.1 frames despite a 5:5 K:BB. With Jose Suarez shut down for a month due to left shoulder inflammation, Silseth seemingly has a chance to stake a long-term claim for a rotation spot.
May 9, 2023
Likely joining rotation
Silseth is the top candidate to replace Jose Suarez (shoulder) in the Angels' rotation, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Given that Silseth is the team's top pitching prospect and worked 3.1 innings in long relief after Suarez left his most recent start Saturday, it seems likely that Silseth will indeed enter the rotation this weekend in Cleveland. Silseth, who turns 23 next week, logged a 0.90 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 20 strikeouts and a 60.9 percent groundball rate in 20 innings through four starts at Triple-A. He has struggled to hold his mid-90s fastball velocity deep into outings, but he is a more legitimate pitching prospect than his career 5.84 ERA in the majors would indicate.
May 2, 2023
High-leverage chances coming
Manager Phil Nevin said Tuesday that Silseth is "certainly going to pitch in some high-leverage situations," Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn a hold Sunday against Milwaukee, and Nevin indicated the right-hander could move "even higher" in the late-inning pecking order. The club could move Silseth back to a starting role later in the season and likely still has that in mind long term, but for now it appears he'll work as part of the bridge to closer Carlos Estevez.
Apr 27, 2023
Tosses two scoreless frames
Silseth walked two batters but did not allow any hits or runs over two innings against Oakland on Wednesday. He struck out two batters.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was called up to the big club Wednesday and made his first MLB appearance of the campaign. The right-hander walked a pair in his first frame but settled down with a 1-2-3 ninth to finish off an Angels rout. Silseth struggled in his first taste of the big leagues last season, posting a 6.59 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 28.2 frames. However, he dominated with Triple-A Salt Lake to begin 2023, allowing just two earned runs and notching a 20:8 K:BB over 20 innings. Silseth is up with the big club in a relief role but would be a top candidate to move into the rotation should a need arise.
Apr 26, 2023
Recalled from Triple-A
The Angels recalled Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth is taking the place of Austin Warren after Warren was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow discomfort. While he's worked as a starter in the minors, Silseth will be a bullpen option for the Angels for now. Considering how much arms like Jose Suarez have struggled, however, it's very possible Silseth could be making starts for the Angels in the coming weeks.
Apr 26, 2023
Joining bullpen Wednesday
Silseth is being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake by the Angels on Wednesday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was scratched from his start for Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, but it's not related to the blister issue that saw him leave his previous start but instead because he'll be an option for the Los Angeles bullpen. The right-hander will replace Austin Warren with Warren coming down with an undisclosed injury before Tuesday's win over the A's. Silseth could make starts for the Angels before the end of the year, but fantasy GMs will want to see him added to the rotation before adding him to their roster.
Apr 25, 2023
Scratched from start
Silseth was scratched from his start for Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, Taylor Blake Ward of The Sporting Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth left his start with the Bees on Thursday with a blister issue, so it's very possible the right-hander's absence is related to that issue. The 22-year-old is considered one of the best pitching prospects in the system, and he could be making starts for the Angels this summer if healthy.
Apr 20, 2023
Leaves Triple-A game with blister
Silseth departed his Triple-A start due to a blister after tossing five innings Wednesday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was great again for Salt Lake City in the outing, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out two batters over five scoreless frames. He's put together a 0.90 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB through four starts covering 20 innings in the minors this season, but it's uncertain if the blister will slow his momentum by causing him to miss time. If he's fine moving forward, Silseth would be among the top candidates for a call-up should the Angels need a spot starter, an injury fill-in, or a replacement for the struggling Jose Suarez.
Apr 8, 2023
Excelling at Triple-A
Silseth has gone 2-0 through his first two starts this season with Triple-A Salt Lake, allowing three hits and posting a 13:3 K:BB over 11 innings.
ANALYSIS
Silseth opened the season with five shutout innings against Sacramento, then outdid himself with six shutout innings, during which he gave up only one hit, against Albuquerque. The right-hander struggled in his first taste of the majors last season, posting a 6.59 ERA and 1.57 WHIP across 28.2 innings over seven starts. However, he's one of the Angels' top pitching prospects and could certainly get another chance in the big club's rotation this season, especially if he continues dominating in the minors like he has so far.
Mar 31, 2023
Opening season at Triple-A
Silseth will begin the 2023 campaign with Triple-A Salt Lake, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was unsuccessful in his bid to grab a big-league rotation spot with the Angels to begin the campaign, so he'll instead see his first action at the Triple-A level. The right-hander was chosen to be Salt Lake's Opening Day starter, and that assignment should come Saturday with Friday's contest rained out. Silseth got into seven major-league games last season and could be among the top candidates for a call-up if a spot in the rotation opens up.
Mar 21, 2023
Optioned to minors
Silseth was optioned to the minor-leagues by the Angels on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Silseth struggled in the majors last season after getting called up from Double-A, logging a 6.59 ERA and 1.57 WHIP through 28.2 innings. The 22-year-old righty will most likely start the season with Triple-A Salt Lake, but could return to the big leagues if he performs well enough there.
Mar 5, 2023
Incorporating cutter
Silseth has added a new cutter to his arsenal this season, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth already had a variety of pitches to go to -- per Statcast, he threw five different pitches during his time in the majors last year. The cutter is new wrinkle, and he believes that it could help him against left-handed hitters, per Bollinger. Silseth dominated at the Double-A level last season, but he struggled during a call-up to the majors, posting a 6.59 ERA (5.97 FIP) over 28.2 innings. He's competing for the Angels' sixth-starter job this spring, though he'll most likely open the 2023 campaign with Triple-A Salt Lake.
Feb 23, 2023
Competing for rotation spot
Silseth could win a spot in the Angels' rotation this spring, but he is more likely to start the season in the minors, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Angels seemingly have five of six rotation spots accounted for, with Jaime Barria, Tucker Davidson, Griffin Canning, Chris Rodriguez and Silseth competing for the sixth spot. Silseth has a higher long-term ceiling than most of his competitors, but is also the least experienced of the bunch, so it would make sense for him to open the year in the minors.
Aug 4, 2022
Won't start Saturday
Silseth won't start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mariners, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was expected to be called up to start Saturday's matinee, but Touki Toussaint will ultimately draw the start. Silseth carries a 2.01 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 40.1 innings over eight minor-league starts this year and will be a strong candidate to be called up if the Angels need a spot starter down the stretch.
Aug 3, 2022
Set to start Saturday
Silseth will be promoted to start Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mariners, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was sent to the minors over the weekend but will be able to quickly rejoin the big-league club due to the twin bill. The 22-year-old has started seven games for the Halos in his first taste of the majors this year and has a 6.59 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB across 28.2 innings.
Jul 31, 2022
Sent to Triple-A
The Angels optioned Silseth to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
He'll head back to the minors after he was lit up for five earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five over four innings Saturday in a no-decision versus the Rangers. Silseth has turned in a woeful 6.59 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over his first seven big-league starts, but he could find himself in consideration for another call-up nonetheless the next time the Angels require a sixth starter. That could happen as soon as the upcoming week, when the Angels will have six games in five days and may need another arm if Shohei Ohtani or Noah Syndergaard is dealt ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.
Jul 31, 2022
Goes four innings Saturday
Silseth allowed five runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts in four innings against the Rangers on Saturday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Silseth has only exceeded five innings once in seven major-league outings this year. He started well Saturday, but he gave up two runs in the third inning and a three-run home run to Marcus Semien in the fourth. He now has a 6.59 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB through 28.2 innings, but it's no guarantee he gets another turn through the rotation during this stint with the Angels. At least one of Silseth, Janson Junk or Touki Toussaint -- who earned the win in relief Saturday -- is likely to be sent down soon to help replenish the team's bullpen depth.
Jul 30, 2022
Officially recalled Saturday
Silseth was recalled from Double-A Rocket City on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Silseth is slated to start Sunday's game against the Rangers, and he'll officially join the active roster a day before the appearance. Over his first six major-league starts, the right-hander has posted a 5.84 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 24.2 innings.
Jul 28, 2022
Starting Saturday
Silseth will be recalled from Double-A Rocket City to start Sunday's game against the Rangers, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was sent down July 10 but will draw a start Saturday to give Reid Detmers and Noah Syndergaard additional rest. Over his last two major-league starts, Silseth has allowed seven runs on 11 hits and a walk while striking out eight in 8.1 innings.
Jul 10, 2022
Returns to minors
Silseth was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old was recalled from Salt Lake on June 28 and made two starts for the Angels, and he allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits with eight strikeouts and one walk over 8.1 innings. Silseth has a 5.84 ERA across 24.2 frames in his first taste of big-league action this year.
Jul 7, 2022
Allows four runs
Silseth (1-3) allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two across four innings to take the loss Thursday against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Silseth was hit hard, as the Orioles managed two doubles and a home run against him in the short outing. However, he was also let down by the bullpen, who allowed two inherited runners to score. Despite some bad luck, Silseth has failed to work more than 4.1innings in each of his last five starts, which has resulted in a 7.72 ERA across his last 18.2 frames.
Jul 7, 2022
Gets another turn in rotation
Silseth is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Orioles in Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
He'll be making his second straight turn through the Baltimore rotation after he struck out six over 4.1 innings while allowing three earned runs in a no-decision against the White Sox on June 28 following his call-up from Double-A Rocket City. Over five starts with the big club this season, the 22-year-old right-hander has gone 1-2 with a 5.23 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB across 20.2 innings.

Mediocre in Tuesday's start
Silseth allowed three runs on five hits and struck out six over 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Silseth cruised through four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth. He exited after giving up a game-tying two-run home run to Josh Harrison. Long balls were a problem during Silseth's previous stint in the majors, and he's now given up five homers in 20.2 innings. The rookie right-hander has a 5.23 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB in five major-league starts. It's unclear if he'll get another turn -- if he does, he's projected to start in Miami next week, though the Angels could opt to take advantage of off days Thursday and Monday to temporarily switch to a five-man rotation.

Promoted for Tuesday's start
Silseth was recalled from Double-A Rocket City and will start Tuesday's game against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Silseth saw his first big-league action from mid-May to early June before being sent back to the minors, but he'll rejoin the Angels' starting rotation Tuesday versus Chicago. The 22-year-old delivered six scoreless frames during his MLB debut but struggled over the three subsequent outings with a 7.84 ERA and 7:5 K:BB across 10.1 innings.

Starting Tuesday
Silseth will start Tuesday against the White Sox, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Silseth earned four starts with the Angels from mid-May to early June but was optioned back to Double-A Rocket City after posting a 4.96 ERA and 1.47 WHIP across 16.1 innings. If Silseth can improve his performance this time around, he should have the chance to stick in the rotation after Reid Detmers was demoted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday.

Sent back to Triple-A
Silseth was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old delivered six shutout frames during his major-league debut in mid-May, though he surrendered nine runs over 10.1 innings across his past three starts and will now return to Salt Lake. Silseth, who is the Angels' top prospect, figures to receive another big-league opportunity at some point this season, but for now he'll make his way back to Triple-A. Jose Suarez was recalled in a corresponding move and is starting Tuesday versus Boston.

Early exit in rout
Silseth (1-2) took the loss Friday as the Angels were routed 10-0 by the Phillies, giving up four runs on four hits and a walk over 1.2 innings. He struck out one.
ANALYSIS
Homers by Kyle Schwarber and Bryson Stott accounted for all the damage off Silseth, who needed 42 pitches (24 strikes) to record five outs. The rookie right-hander has regressed quickly after tossing six scoreless innings in his debut, and he'll carry a 4.96 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB through 16.1 innings into his next outing.

Coughs up two runs
Silseth yielded two runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in Friday's loss to the Angels. He failed to record a strikeout and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight start, Silseth was bounced during the fifth inning. He gave up a run in each of the second and fifth frames during Friday's loss. The 22-year-old rookie has walked exactly two batters in each of his three MLB starts and he now owns a 10:6 K:BB through 14.2 innings. Silseth is expected to take the mound in Philadelphia next week.

Can't escape fifth inning
Silseth (1-1) took the loss during Friday's 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Athletics, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Making his second start against Oakland this week, Silseth didn't fare as well this time around. All three runs surrendered came via the long ball with a Seth Brown two-run homer in the fifth dealing the crushing blow. Through 10.1 innings, the 22-year-old owns a 2.61 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 10 strikeouts compared to four walks.

Starting again Friday
Silseth is scheduled to start Friday's game against the A's, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Joe Maddon previously said he was unsure if the the right-hander would receive another turn through the rotation after debuting over the weekend, but it's now been decided the rookie will make at least one more start for the Halos. Silseth allowed only one hit over six scoreless innings during his first big-league appearance, and another strong performance Friday could go a long way toward maintaining his spot as Los Angeles' No. 6 starter.

Looks set for another start
Angels manager Joe Maddon said Sunday that he hasn't decided if Silseth will receive another start with the big club, though the rookie appears likely to make at least one more turn through the rotation, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Los Angeles added two new starters to its rotation this past weekend in Silseth and Jhonathan Diaz, the latter of whom started in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader with Oakland. Assuming the Angels intend to keep their six-man rotation intact this week, Diaz's demotion to Triple-A Salt Lake following Saturday's outing seemingly indicates that Silseth will stick around with Los Angeles in a starting role. Silseth -- the first player selected in the 2021 first-year player draft to reach the big leagues -- was mightily impressive in his MLB debut Friday in Oakland, striking out four over six scoreless innings while scattering one hit and two walks. He tentatively lines up for another start versus the Athletics during the upcoming weekend, with this outing coming at Angel Stadium.

Impressive debut
Silseth (1-0) earned the win during Friday's 2-0 victory over Oakland, allowing one hit and two walks with four strikeouts in six scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
After posting a 1.73 ERA in 26 innings at Double-A, Silseth was called up to make his debut and impressed during six clean innings. The 21-year-old was able to escape a jam in the third thanks to a double play, and retired the final nine batters he faced. Silseth made a strong bid to remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future and would most likely start next week against Texas if he sticks in the majors.
May 13, 2022
Called up for debut start
Silseth's contract was selected as expected ahead of his major-league debut against the Athletics on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The Angels have shown a willingness to push their starters up the ladder very quickly, and Silseth will make his big-league debut less than a year after being selected 321st overall in the 2021 Draft. He threw just 5.1 professional innings last season and will get the call after making only five starts for Double-A Rocket City this year, skipping Triple-A entirely. As you might expect for a player selected in the 11th round, Silseth doesn't have much of a prospect pedigree, but his 1.73 ERA and 37.4 percent strikeout rate at the Double-A level this season are both excellent marks.
