Cut out of rotation
Vanderbilt (coach's decision) went unused off the bench in Tuesday's 140-126 win over the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
After he had seen his playing time decline from 19 minutes to 11 to eight over the Lakers' previous three contests, Vanderbilt ended up falling out of the rotation entirely Tuesday while Los Angeles welcomed LeBron James (sciatica) and Gabe Vincent (ankle) back from long-term absences. Though Vanderbilt could reclaim a role on the second unit if the Lakers are missing a player or two in their nine-man rotation for a given game, he may struggle to get off the bench more often than not when the team is at full strength.
Nov 9, 2025
Posts strong double-double
Vanderbilt recorded 12 points (4-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 18 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 28 minutes during Saturday's 122-102 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Luka Doncic led the way for the Lakers in scoring, but Vanderbilt made a strong case to be the second or third-best player for the Lakers in this road loss. The veteran forward ended just one rebound shy of tying his career-high mark in that category, and he supplemented that with 12 points to record his first double-double of the season. Vanderbilt isn't expected to take Rui Hachimura's place in the starting lineup, so Vanderbilt's overall upside will remain fairly low due to his role in the rotation.
Oct 31, 2025
Bench role Friday
Vanderbilt will come off the bench during Friday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will be in the second unit, with Luka Doncic (finger) and Marcus Smart (quadriceps) returning. Jake LaRavia will also have a bench role for Friday's matchup. Vanderbilt is averaging 5.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game, shooting 40 percent from the field.
Oct 28, 2025
Fares well as starter
Vanderbilt provided 14 points (6-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists and three steals over 28 minutes during Monday's 122-108 loss to the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
The Lakers were extremely shorthanded Monday, allowing Vanderbilt to move into the starting lineup. He's averaging 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals over his last two games, proving his worth as a short-term streamer until the Lakers get some reinforcements back.
Oct 27, 2025
Starting Monday
Vanderbilt will move into the starting lineup for Monday's matchup with Portland, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gabe Vincent (ankle) and Marcus Smart (quad) will join LeBron James (pinched nerve) and Luka Doncic (finger/leg) on the sidelines for Monday's game, which will result in Vanderbilt getting the start. Joining him in the first unit will be Austin Reaves, Jake LaRavia, Rui Hachimura and Deandre Ayton. Vanderbilt is capable of racking up the defensive stats when given the minutes, so he's on the radar as a potential deep league streamer.
Oct 27, 2025
Strong performance in win
Vanderbilt closed with nine points (3-5 FG, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, two assists and two steals over 27 minutes during Sunday's 127-120 victory over the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Jaxson Hayes (knee) sat this game out and joined a growing injury report in Los Angeles -- LeBron James (back) and Luka Doncic (finger) both remain on the shelf for the immediate future. Vanderbilt has strong rebounding and steal rates, so if the minutes are there, he can do some damage in those categories.
Oct 17, 2025
Headed to bench
Vanderbilt will come off the bench in Friday's exhibition game against the Kings, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
With LeBron James (pinched nerve) set to begin the year on the sidelines, there will be more minutes available for Vanderbilt, but it's unclear if he'll be a starter or reserve. Rui Hachimura will replace him in the starting unit for Friday's game, so Vanderbilt may be relegated to minutes in the teens.
Oct 17, 2025
Available for preseason finale
Vanderbilt (quadriceps) is available for Friday's preseason finale against the Kings, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt left Wednesday's preseason game against the Mavericks due to a left quad contusion, but the issue has proven to be of minimal concern. With LeBron James (sciatica) not expected to make his season debut until around mid-November, Vanderbilt has one more chance to make his case for an Opening Night start.
Oct 16, 2025
Early exit with quad bruise
Vanderbilt has been ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday's preseason game against the Lakers due to a left quad contusion, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt took a knee to the thigh during a second-quarter collision with Dereck Lively, and he won't return due to what's being called a left quad contusion. Vanderbilt will finish the contest with five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt), seven rebounds, four assists and one block across 13 minutes. His next chance to play will come Friday against Sacramento -- the Lakers' preseason finale. In the meantime, Christian Koloko and Anton Watson could see more minutes.
Oct 15, 2025
Starting Wednesday
Vanderbilt is part of the starting lineup for Wednesday's preseason game against the Mavericks, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt rested during the opening end of the Lakers' back-to-back set Tuesday, but he'll be part of the first five against Dallas. With LeBron James (sciatica) expected to miss the start of the regular season, Vanderbilt could see frequent starts at the power forward spot.
Oct 15, 2025
Suiting up vs. Dallas
Vanderbilt (rest) will play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Mavericks, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt sat out Tuesday's loss to the Suns, though he'll return for the second leg of the team's back-to-back set. The 2018 second-round pick is set to enter the 2025-26 campaign at full strength after appearing in just 65 regular-season games over the past two seasons.
Oct 14, 2025
Will not play Tuesday
Vanderbilt (rest) has been ruled out for Tuesday's preseason game against the Suns, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will be among a few notable players that head coach JJ Redick will keep out for rest purposes Tuesday. The veteran forward joins Jaxson Hayes, Gabe Vincent and Rui Hachimura, who won't suit up. The next opportunity for these veterans to return to the floor will be Wednesday against the Mavericks.
Oct 6, 2025
Strong two-way performance in loss
Vanderbilt compiled nine points (4-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 0-1 FT), seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in 21 minutes during Sunday's 111-103 preseason loss to Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt remained in the starting lineup, a position he could very well find himself in come opening night. He brings a defensive presence to a team desperately in need of an identity on that end of the court. After having dealt with multiple injuries over the past couple of years, the hope is that Vanderbilt can stay healthy, allowing him to build some much-needed momentum. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, look for Vanderbilt to play minutes in the low to mid-20s on most nights.
Oct 3, 2025
Will start Friday
Vanderbilt will be in the starting lineup in Friday's game against the Suns, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will be a starter, along with Jake LaRavia, due to the absence of Luka Doncic (rest) and LeBron James (glute). There's a chance Vanderbilt and LaRavia will start again Sunday against the Warriors if the team's two superstars are ruled out for a second straight game. Doncic has already been ruled out against Golden State.
Apr 13, 2025
Available vs. Portland
Vanderbilt (foot) has been cleared to play in Sunday's game against the Trail Blazers, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will be one of the few players in the Lakers' regular rotation who will play in the team's regular-season finale Sunday. The defensive-minded forward is averaging 4.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game, shooting 48.8 percent from the field.
Apr 12, 2025
Iffy for Saturday
Vanderbilt is questionable for Sunday's game against the Trail Blazers due to left foot injury management, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is one of several Lakers who are questionable for Sunday's contest, but a decision on his status will likely be made closer to the 3:30 p.m. ET tipoff. If he ends up being upgraded to available, look for Vanderbilt to handle a sizable role in the rotation since the coaching staff has decided to give most of the rotation regulars a day off in this regular-season finale.
Apr 1, 2025
Pulls down six rebounds
Vanderbilt amassed two points (1-6 FG) and six rebounds in 10 minutes during Monday's 104-98 win over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Minutes have been hard to come by for Vanderbilt with the Lakers mostly healthy again. Over his last seven games, Vanderbilt has seen just 13.7 minutes per contest with 3.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.9 steals on 44.0 percent shooting from the field.
Mar 22, 2025
Cleared to face Chciago
Vanderbilt (groin) has been cleared to play in Saturday's game against the Bulls, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out Thursday's loss to the Bucks due to a groin injury, Vanderbilt will return to the floor Saturday. The veteran forward averages 4.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 51.2 percent from the floor.
Mar 21, 2025
Likely to play Saturday
Vanderbilt (groin) is probable for Saturday's game against the Bulls, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is expected to return to action after missing Thursday's loss to the Bucks due to a right groin strain. The big man has averaged 5.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals across 16.4 minutes per game in his last five outings.
Mar 20, 2025
Sitting out Thursday
Vanderbilt (groin) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bucks, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt evidently picked up a groin injury during Wednesday's game against the Nuggets and will be held out of Thursday's matchup as a result. Dorian Finney-Smith (ankle) has also been ruled out, so it'll be up to Cam Reddish, Trey Jemison and Alex Len to pick up the slack in the frontcourt.
Mar 20, 2025
Unlikely to play Thursday
Vanderbilt is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game versus the Bucks due to a right groin strain, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was ejected from Monday's contest and is now expected to miss Thursday's game due to a groin injury. With Dorian Finney-Smith (ankle) also doubtful, Cam Reddish could receive increased playing time in the Lakers' forward rotation.
Mar 18, 2025
Ejected vs. San Antonio
Vanderbilt was ejected from Monday's game against the Spurs after being assessed a double technical foul, Mark Medina of TheSportingTribune.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old got into an altercation with Jeremy Sochan, who was also tossed midway through the fourth quarter. Vanderbilt will finish the game with two points (1-2 FG), one rebound and one assist across 15 minutes.
Mar 16, 2025
Retreating to bench vs. Phoenix
Vanderbilt will come off the bench during Sunday's game against the Suns, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Dorian Finney-Smith will return from a one-game absence, pushing Vanderbilt to the second unit. Over his last 10 outings (two starts), the 25-year-old has averaged 6.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals across 19.6 minutes per contest.
Mar 14, 2025
Moving to starting role Friday
Vanderbilt is in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Nuggets, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lakers will be very shorthanded due to rest and injuries for this game, so Vanderbilt will be part of the starting unit. He's made just one start this season -- it came on a 111-101 loss to Boston on March 8, where he posted four points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks across 29 minutes.
Mar 10, 2025
Back to bench Monday
Vanderbilt is not in the Lakers' starting lineup against the Nets on Monday, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt started in Saturday's loss against the Celtics. He will retreat to the bench Monday while the Lakers go with a starting five of Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Gabe Vincent, Dalton Knecht and Alex Len.
Mar 9, 2025
Grabs eight rebounds in loss
Vanderbilt finished Saturday's 111-101 loss to the Celtics with four points (2-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 0-1 FT), eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in 29 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt logged his first start of the season as the team continued to tinker with the frontcourt depth chart. If there ever was a moment for Vanderbilt to show his worth after languishing on the bench for two full seasons with the Lakers, now would be the time. The backcourt still doesn't have a consistent solution for Anthony Davis' missed production, and Saturday's injury to LeBron James (groin) will add immense pressure for everyone to step up and contribute. Vanderbilt proved during his tenure in Minnesota that he has the skills to be a nightly contributor, but he's struggled to replicate that success.
Mar 5, 2025
Strong showing in win
Vanderbilt closed Tuesday's 136-115 win over the Pelicans with 12 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal across 20 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt set a new season-high scoring mark, and along with Jaxson Hayes, is starting to trend in the right direction for the Lakers. He's eclipsed 20 minutes in two straight games, averaging 10.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 0.5 steals.
Feb 28, 2025
Chips in five points Thursday
Vanderbilt produced five points (2-3 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 0-2 FT), two rebounds and one assist across 13 minutes during Thursday's 111-102 victory over the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was efficient during his limited run Thursday, and he sank a three-pointer for a second consecutive contest. The 25-year-old has received fairly consistent playing time since returning from a lengthy absence due to a right foot injury, and over his last 10 outings, he has averaged 3.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per contest.
Feb 21, 2025
Good to go Saturday
Vanderbilt (foot) is not listed on the injury report ahead of Saturday's game against the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt did not play in Thursday's win over the Trail Blazers due to right foot surgery management, but the 2018 second-round pick appears to have been given the green light to play in Saturday's contest. He's averaging 3.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.1 steals over 16.1 minutes per game across his 10 outings during the season.
Feb 20, 2025
Will not play Thursday
Vanderbilt is out for Thursday's matchup against the Trail Blazers due to right foot surgery management, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will notably join Luka Doncic (calf) on the sideline, while LeBron James (foot) is listed as questionable. More minutes could be available for a variety of players, including Jordan Goodwin, Gabe Vincent, Dalton Knecht and Alex Len.
Feb 11, 2025
Zero points in win
Vanderbilt chipped in zero points (0-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two rebounds and one assist over 17 minutes during Monday's 132-113 win over Utah.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt usually gets the job done for the Lakers on the defensive side of the floor, which is his strength. The veteran forward didn't make an impact on either end of the floor in Monday's blowout win against the Jazz, as he failed to score and finished with two rebounds and one assist across 17 minutes, making it his worst performance since returning to the lineup for Los Angeles on Jan. 25.
Jan 29, 2025
Not listed on injury report
Vanderbilt (foot) isn't listed on the Lakers' injury report for Thursday's game against Washington, Daniel Starkand of LakersNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt made his season debut Jan. 25 in Golden State and made two appearances, totaling 25 minutes, before he took a seat for Tuesday's loss in Philadelphia, which was the second night of a back-to-back set. His workload will likely continue to be monitored closely, but with Anthony Davis (core) sidelined for at least a week, the Lakers will need as much of Vanderbilt's defensive presence as they can get.
Jan 28, 2025
Ruled out Tuesday
Vanderbilt (foot) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the 76ers, Daniel Starkand of LakersNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has played in two games for the Lakers this season after recovering from surgery on both feet. However, the team is slowly getting him back up to speed. He hasn't played more than 13 minutes in a game yet and will be rested for the second game of a back-to-back Tuesday on the road in Philadelphia.
Jan 26, 2025
Makes defensive impact in debut
Vanderbilt (feet) recorded two points (1-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt), four rebounds, three steals and two assists across 12 minutes Saturday in the Lakers' 118-108 win over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was cleared to make his season debut Saturday, after missing the Lakers' first 42 games while recovering from offseason surgeries on both of his feet. The Lakers will likely to manage Vanderbilt's playing time coming off the pair of surgeries, though he's not expected to clear 20 minutes with much regularity when Los Angeles is at full strength in the frontcourt. His fantasy appeal is mainly limited to deeper leagues for managers looking for aid in the field-goal percentage, steals and rebounds categories.
Jan 24, 2025
Available for Saturday
Vanderbilt (foot) has been cleared to play in Saturday's game against the Warriors, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing the entire 2024-25 season up to his point after having offseason surgery on both feet, Vanderbilt has been made available to play Saturday against Golden State. Although head coach JJ Redick has been non-committal about playing the veteran forward in San Francisco, he'll be available to come off the bench for the Lakers and could get on the floor for Los Angeles.
Jan 22, 2025
Will return Saturday
Vanderbilt (foot) has been cleared to make his season debut Saturday against the Warriors, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will be sidelined for Thursday's game versus Boston, but barring any setbacks in the coming days, he'll be back in the rotation versus Golden State. After undergoing surgeries to both feet during the offseason followed by a lengthy rehab process, Vanderbilt will likely have heavy restrictions right out of the gate.
Jan 20, 2025
Out vs. Wizards
Vanderbilt (foot) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against Washington, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has bounced between LA's G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, and the NBA club over the last few weeks to get extra work in, but he's not yet ready to return. His next chance to do so will arrive Thursday against Boston.
Jan 20, 2025
Recalled by Los Angeles
Los Angeles recalled Vanderbilt (foot) from the G League's South Bay Lakers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was getting some extra practice reps in South Bay as he continues to progress towards a return. He's been working his way back from May surgeries to address a right midfoot sprain and a bone spur in his left foot, and he's likely to have heavy restrictions once he gets the green light to return.
Jan 13, 2025
Won't return this week
Head coach JJ Redick said Monday that Vanderbilt (foot) won't return to the lineup this week.
ANALYSIS
While Redick notes Vanderbilt is progressing well and getting closer to returning from foot surgery, the forward will not be available until sometime next week at the earliest. Until the 25-year-old is ready to rejoin Los Angeles' rotation, Dorian Finney-Smith and Max Christie should continue occupying significant roles for the Lakers.
Jan 10, 2025
Returns to NBA
The Lakers recalled Vanderbilt (foot) from the G League's South Bay Lakers on Friday, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was recalled from the G League after going through practice Friday. Vanderbilt has yet to play this season while recovering from foot surgery but is progressing in his recovery. The 25-year-old forward is set to be re-evaluated Jan. 14.
Jan 10, 2025
Assigned to G League on Friday
The Lakers assigned Vanderbilt (foot) to the G League's South Bay Lakers on Friday, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
South Bay will hold practice before the parent club, allowing Vanderbilt to get some extra on-court work in against the Lakers' G League players. The 25-year-old began non-contact work in late December, and he hasn't seen game action since February of 2023 due to injuries -- and offseason surgeries -- to both feet. Vanderbilt is slated to be re-evaluated Jan 14., and he could return to action as soon as Jan. 15 against the Heat.
Jan 7, 2025
Continues ramping up
Vanderbilt (foot) participated in 5-on-5 practice Monday, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After starting non-contact work in late December, Vanderbilt is ramping up his activity after undergoing right foot surgery this past offseason. His next step is to play against teammates in practice, and head coach JJ Redick said the Lakers will have another update soon. Until Vanderbilt is ready to return to the floor, Dorian Finney-Smith should continuing serving as a regular member of Los Angeles' rotation.
Dec 30, 2024
Starts non-contact work
Vanderbilt takes another step forward in his rehab process, as he has begun non-contact work in practices, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is inching closer to returning to the basketball floor. He is finally back at practice, which is a good sign for the Lakers' depth in the frontcourt.
Dec 3, 2024
Targeting early January return
After experiencing fluid in his left knee during the rehab process, Vanderbilt's expected return has been pushed to early January, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been recovering from offseason procedures to both feet, and now he's battling a left knee issue on top of that. Vanderbilt was a key player for the Lakers during the 2023-24 season with averages of 5.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals, so his delayed return is a big blow to the team.
Nov 20, 2024
Out for at least two more weeks
Vanderbilt's (foot) ramp-up process has gone slower than anticipated, and he'll be re-evaluated in a "couple weeks" from Wednesday, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt underwent surgery on his right foot during the offseason but his recovery has been slower than expected. He's yet to appear in a game this season and will need at least two weeks more before retaking the hardwood.
Nov 18, 2024
Remains out Tuesday
Vanderbilt (foot) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Jazz, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt continues to work his way back from offseason procedures on both of his feet. His next chance to make his 2024-25 regular-season debut will be Thursday against the Magic, but Vanderbilt will need to increase his basketball activities before entertaining a return to game action.
Nov 3, 2024
Takes part in shooting drills
Vanderbilt (foot) was spotted participating in light shooting drills following Sunday's practice, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt doesn't appear to be all that close to a return to play just yet, but he's trending in the right direction. If all goes well in his rehab, fantasy managers could see the forward continue to ramp up basketball activities over the next week or so, at which point another update is expected to surface.
Nov 1, 2024
Out at least another week
Coach JJ Redick said Friday that the Lakers will have another update on Vanderbilt (foot) in about a week, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has yet to suit up this season while recovering from multiple surgeries. Although Redick said that Vanderbilt is progressing in his recovery, he is still experiencing "minor discomfort".
Oct 17, 2024
To miss start of season
Head coach JJ Redick stated Thursday that Vanderbilt's (foot) status will be updated in two weeks, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lakers were hopeful that Vanderbilt would be ready for the start of the regular season Tuesday against the Timberwolves, but following Thursday's update, he's set to miss at least the first five matchups of the 2024-25 campaign. Redick noted that Vanderbilt hasn't suffered any sort of setback, so perhaps the team's initial timetable for a return was a bit ambitious.
Oct 12, 2024
Progressing in recovery
Coach JJ Redick said Saturday that Vanderbilt (foot) is progressing and in a "ramp up" stage in his recovery, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is still working his way back from multiple foot surgeries this offseason and isn't expected to suit up in the preseason. However, the Lakers are still targeting the regular-season opener against Minnesota on Oct. 21 as a target date.
Sep 30, 2024
Iffy for Opening Night
Vanderbilt (foot) said Monday that he's not sure if he'll be ready for Opening Night, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt had procedures on both feet during the offseason, and there's been some optimism that he could be ready to face Minnesota on Oct. 22 to open the season. Vanderbilt said his rehab process has been going great, and it will be interesting to see how he progresses throughout the preseason.
Sep 25, 2024
Underwent offseason procedures
General manager Rob Pelinka said Wednesday that Vanderbilt had successful procedures on both feet this offseason, and there's optimism the forward will be ready for Opening Night against the Timberwolves on Oct. 22, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pelinka added that Vanderbilt had a lingering bone spur that was also cleared up during the procedures, which happened right after the 2023-24 season concluded. Vanderbilt was a key piece during the Lakers' run to the Western Conference Finals two years ago, but last season, the forward struggled to stay on the court, making just 29 regular-season appearances. Vanderbilt brings a defensive versatility that is hard to come by and will certainly have a role if he's healthy on Opening Night, though probably not one worth fantasy relevance outside of deeper leagues prioritizing defensive stats.
Apr 29, 2024
Available for Game 5
Vanderbilt (foot) has been cleared to play in Monday's Game 5 against the Nuggets, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will have an opportunity to make his postseason debut after proving his health in pregame workouts. It's unclear as to how much he'll factor into the rotation after failing to see any action since Feb. 1, but he'll be ready to go if called upon.
Apr 28, 2024
Questionable for Game 5
Vanderbilt (foot) is listed as questionable ahead of Monday's game against the Nuggets, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is yet to appear in the psotseason for the Lakers, who find themselves on the brink of elimination. This is the first time Vanderbilt has not immediately been ruled out, so he seems to be trending towards a return.
Apr 26, 2024
Won't play in Game 4
Vanderbilt (foot) won't play in Saturday's Game 4 versus Denver, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Although Vanderbilt has ramped up his activity at practice, he'll remain on the sidelines as the Lakers attempt to keep their season alive Saturday.
Apr 24, 2024
Missing Game 3
Vanderbilt (foot) won't play in Thursday's game against the Nuggets, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was highly involved in the Lakers' shootaround Monday and appears to be nearing his first taste of game action since Feb. 1. However, he'll still be inactive for Thursday's Game 3, making Saturday's Game 4 Vanderbilt's next chance to go.
Apr 22, 2024
Takes part in Monday's practice
Vanderbilt (foot) "exerted himself at a high level" during Monday's practice, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Darvin Ham noted in his pregame presser that the team will wait to see how Vanderbilt responds Tuesday morning before determining his next steps toward a return. Vanderbilt has already been ruled out for Monday's Game 2 against the Nuggets.
Apr 21, 2024
Won't play in Game 2
Vanderbilt (foot) has been ruled out for Monday's Game 2 against the Nuggets, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was recently seen wearing a walking boot, and he'll be sidelined for a second consecutive matchup to begin postseason play. His next chance to suit up will be in Thursday's Game 3.
Apr 19, 2024
Officially out for Game 1
Vanderbilt (foot) won't play in Saturday's Game 1 against the Nuggets, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will continue to be considered day-to-day as the Lakers navigate through its opening-round series. His next chance to suit up will arrive Monday for Game 2.
Apr 19, 2024
Spotted in walking boot
Vanderbilt (foot) was wearing a walking boot during Friday's practice, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Previous reports have suggested that Vanderbilt is getting close to a return, but a boot isn't a positive sign. The team has yet to disclose a concrete timetable for his return.
Apr 15, 2024
Remains out
Vanderbilt (foot) has been ruled out for Tuesday's Play-In game against the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt's defensive efforts were a key part of the Lakers' run to the Western Conference championship last season. However, he has been unavailable for most of 2023-24, playing just 29 regular-season games (six appearances). Vanderbilt hasn't played since Feb. 1, so his continued absence shouldn't impact coach Darvin Ham's rotation.
Apr 13, 2024
Out again Sunday
Vanderbilt (foot) will not play Sunday against the Pelicans, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been sidelined since early February due to a mid-foot sprain, but recent reports have suggested that he's getting closer to a return. There will likely be an update on his progress after the weekend.
Apr 11, 2024
Will remain sidelined Friday
Vanderbilt (foot) has been ruled out for Friday's game against Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been sidelined since early February due to a mid-foot sprain, but he's been trending toward a return in recent days. He's scheduled to have his injury re-evaluated soon, but it seems relatively unlikely that he'll be available for Sunday's regular-season finale against New Orleans. However, it's possible Vanderbilt is back in action sometime during the postseason.
Apr 8, 2024
Remains out Tuesday
Vanderbilt (foot) will be inactive Tuesday versus Golden State, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt's midfoot sprain is expected to be re-evaluated in coming days, but no formal update on his return to action has been released yet. Vanderbilt had "not been cleared for any contact drills," as of Friday, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com, but he was seen doing on-court shooting work prior to Wednesday's victory over Washington. His next opportunity to take the court comes Friday versus Memphis, with the Lakers' regular-season finale following Sunday versus New Orleans.
Apr 3, 2024
Will be evaluated next week
Coach Darvin Ham said Wednesday that Vanderbilt (foot) will be re-evaluated next week, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt hasn't played since Feb. 1 due to a mid-foot sprain, but he's nearing his return ahead of the Play-In Tournament. The forward's defensive contributions during last season's playoffs were key to the Lakers' run to the Western Conference Finals, but if cleared, he'll likely garner a minor role off the bench this postseason.
Apr 3, 2024
Remains out
Vanderbilt (foot) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Wizards, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been ramping up his conditioning, but it's unclear when he'll be cleared to play again. His last appearance was Feb. 1, so even if he gets the green light soon, he'll presumably be limited for at least a few games.
Apr 1, 2024
Still out
Vanderbilt (foot) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Raptors, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt hasn't played since Feb. 1 due to a right mid-foot sprain. However, he's ramping up his conditioning and nearing a return to game action. Vanderbilt's next chance to suit up will come Wednesday in Washington.
Mar 26, 2024
Gradually ramping up
Vanderbilt (foot) is progressing on a return-to-play plan, although he is not yet been cleared for contact, , Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt suffered a right mid-foot sprain nearly two months ago, so to only commence running as of Tuesday does not implicate an imminent return. That being said, Vanderbilt continuing to heal and progress without a setback is a good sign for the 24-year-old. His recovery is reportedly on schedule, per coach Darvin Ham, although no return date was estimated.
Mar 25, 2024
Remains out
Vanderbilt (foot) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Bucks and remains sidelined indefinitely.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt hasn't played since Feb. 3 due to a right mid-foot sprain. As of mid-March, he wasn't cleared for on-court activities, and the team hasn't provided a recent update, so Vanderbilt can be considered week-to-week at this point.
Mar 12, 2024
No on-court activity yet
Vanderbilt (foot) is progressing in his rehab, but he has not been cleared for on-court activities as of Tuesday, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will certainly be sidelined for Wednesday's game against Sacramento and he is likely to miss future contests as his gradual ramp-up continues. Vanderbilt has been out since Feb. 3 due to a right mid-foot sprain. The fact that there have been no setbacks in his recovery and that the 24-year-old continues gearing up to return this season are both good signs, however. In his absence, Rui Hachimura has remained planted in the starting lineup with Taurean Prince representing an underwhelming platoon partner. Cam Reddish (ankle) is nearing a return to action in the wing rotation as well.
Mar 5, 2024
Sheds walking boot
Vanderbilt (foot) was spotted on the sidelines without a walking boot Monday, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lakers have yet to issue an update on Vanderbilt's status, but it appears he's trending in the right direction. Head coach Darvin Ham stated before Monday's contest that the next update on the Kentucky product's status would likely come sometime next week, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
Feb 27, 2024
No on-court activity yet
Coach Darvin Ham said Tuesday that Vanderbilt (foot) has yet to progress to on-court activities, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is slated to be re-evaluated at the beginning of March, but it sounds like he's still at least a couple of weeks away from returning to game action. He hasn't played since Feb. 1 due to a right wrist sprain and initial reports hinted that the injury could sideline him for the remainder of the campaign.
Feb 5, 2024
Diagnosed with sprained foot
The Lakers announced Monday that Vanderbilt has been diagnosed with a right mid-foot sprain and will be re-evaluated in approximately 3-to-4 weeks, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Saturday that Vanderbilt would be out several weeks at a minimum, if not the rest of the season, so the forward's absence could extend past the Lakers' initial timeline. In Vanderbilt's absence, Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes, Taurean Prince and Christian Wood are candidates for increased minutes, but Los Angeles will also be involved in talks ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, so the rotation could change drastically.
Feb 3, 2024
Could miss rest of season
Vanderbilt's right foot injury could potentially sideline him for the rest of the season, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
ANALYSIS
Wojnarowski said Vanderbilt's injury is "significant" and will keep him out a minimum of several weeks, if not the entire season. There should be more clarity in the coming days, but Vanderbilt's fantasy managers can continue to explore alternatives. Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes, Christian Wood and Taurean Prince are all candidates to see more opportunities going forward.
Feb 2, 2024
Expected to miss several weeks
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Friday that Vanderbilt, who left Thursday's loss to the Celtics due to a foot injury, is expected to miss several weeks, but he'll undergo further evaluation.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt missed the start of the season due to left heel bursitis, but he's been a key piece of the rotation since returning to action in early December, playing at least 20 minutes in 15 of his last 21 appearances (six starts). With Vanderbilt sidelined, Rui Hachimura, Christian Wood and Taurean Prince are candidates for elevated roles, but it could also mean the Lakers will be more active ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
Feb 1, 2024
Won't return Thursday
Vanderbilt won't return to Thursday's contest against the Celtics due to right foot soreness, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was making his first start since Dec. 31, but an injury will force him to sit the rest of the contest. He ends Thursday's contest with 10 points (3-7 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and three steals across 16 minutes. Expect Rui Hachimura to see an uptick in minutes the rest of the way, as he started the second half in Vanderbilt's place.
Feb 1, 2024
Starting Thursday
Vanderbilt will move into the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Celtics, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lakers will be without LeBron James (ankle) and Anthony Davis (Achilles) Thursday evening, so Vanderbilt will get the spot-start and he'll be joined in the first unit by D'Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Taurean Prince and Jaxson Hayes. Vanderbilt makes for an attractive streamer with the increased opportunity.
Jan 29, 2024
Tossed Monday
Vanderbilt was ejected in the first half of Monday's game versus Houston. He finished with three points (1-1 FG, 1-1 FT) and one steal in seven minutes of action.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt picked up two technical fouls in rapid succession Monday, engaging in a brief shoving match with Dillon Brooks on the offensive glass, then proceeding to provocatively poke Brooks, which earned Vanderbilt an early exit Monday. The Lakers close a back-to-back Tuesday against Atlanta, representing Vanderbilt's next opportunity to take the court.
Jan 28, 2024
Big night off bench Saturday
Vanderbilt supplied 14 points (4-7 FG, 6-8 FT), nine rebounds, five assists and four steals in 41 minutes off the bench during Saturday's 145-144 double-overtime win over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old forward took advantage of the extra court time, scoring in double digits for the fourth time in the last five games and recording multiple steals for the fourth straight contest. Vanderbilt has had a bumpy first full season with the Lakers, but he seems to be getting comfortable on the second unit, averaging 11.8 points, 6.4 boards, 2.4 steals and 1.8 assists over that five-game stretch while shooting 63.9 percent from the floor.
Jan 24, 2024
Sniffs double-double in loss
Vanderbilt totaled 12 points (4-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds, two assists, one block and three steals across 25 minutes during Tuesday's 127-116 loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
The platoon of Vanderbilt and Rui Hachimura was more involved in LeBron James' (ankle) absence, but Vanderbilt was the better option during the loss. Tuesday marked his second double-digit scoring result of the season, with the first total occurring against Brooklyn in the team's previous game.
Jan 23, 2024
Set to play Tuesday
Vanderbilt (heel) is available for Tuesday's game versus the Clippers, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been upgraded from probable to available Wednesday despite dealing with a nagging heel injury. With LeBron James (ankle) out, Vanderbilt could receive increased playing time.
Jan 22, 2024
Probable for Tuesday
Vanderbilt is listed as probable to play Tuesday against the Clippers due to left heel bursitis.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is on track to play, and his injury designation could be maintenance related, but appearing on injury report with the same injury that sidelined him for the first 20 games of the season is notable. Vanderbilt hasn't missed a game since Dec. 12, however, and he's averaging 6.6 points and 5.0 rebounds in 21.4 minutes across his last five contests.
Jan 15, 2024
Sticking in bench role vs. OKC
Vanderbilt will come off the bench Monday against the Thunder, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Darvin Ham indicated a few hours before tipoff that Vanderbilt would enter the starting lineup for Monday's contest, but he later stated that he misheard McMenamin's question about the starting lineup and confirmed Taurean Prince as the starter at small forward. Vanderbilt has come off the bench in six straight contests and is averaging 3.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 20.7 minutes.
Jan 15, 2024
Joins starting lineup
Vanderbilt is in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Oklahoma City, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt gives the Lakers a defensively-oriented look on the wings in place of Taurean Prince with Cam Reddish (knee) set for a multi-game absence. Additionally, Vanderbilt profiles as a quality point-of-attack defender and returns to the first unit as part of the same lineup that the Lakers utilized en route to the Western Conference Finals last year.
Jan 12, 2024
Season high in minutes Thursday
Vanderbilt produced six points (2-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-4 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and two steals over 29 minutes off the bench during Thursday's 127-109 loss to Phoenix.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old forward ended up playing a season high in minutes and setting a new season high in boards, taking on a bigger workload after Cam Reddish (knee) exited the game early. The Lakers have also been without Rui Hachimura (calf) for the last five games, so if Reddish misses additional time, Vanderbilt could be the biggest beneficiary. Given that he has yet to score double-digit points in any game this season though, even during a five-game stint as a starter in late December, it's hard to get too excited about his fantasy potential in a larger role.
Jan 3, 2024
Coming off bench
Vanderbilt won't start Wednesday's game against Miami, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will rejoin the reserves Wednesday after making five consecutive starts. In eight games off the bench this season, Vanderbilt averaged 0.9 points and 3.8 rebounds over 14.2 minutes.
Dec 28, 2023
Will play Thursday
Vanderbilt (heel) is available for Thursday's game against the Hornets, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lakers have been consistently throwing probable tags on Vanderbilt, so his status wasn't in any real doubt. He's been quiet this season, but he had one of his better showings against the Celtics on Monday with six points, six rebounds and one steal in 23 minutes.
Dec 27, 2023
Expected to play Thursday
Vanderbilt (heel) is listed as probable for Thursday's game versus the Hornets, Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has consistently received probable tags while dealing with left heel bursitis. However, Vanderbilt has started in the Lakers' last two contests and is averaging 4.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 23.5 minutes across that span.
Dec 25, 2023
Upgraded to available
Vanderbilt (heel) is available for Monday's game against the Celtics, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt carrying probable tags has been the norm for a couple of weeks. He'll likely draw another start Monday as the Lakers look to improve their defense and rebounding. Vanderbilt had two points, six rebounds, a steal and a block in 24 minutes Saturday during his first start of the campaign.
Dec 24, 2023
Likely to play Monday
Vanderbilt (heel) is probable for Monday's game against the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is listed as probable ahead of game time for the sixth consecutive time, having played in each of the previous cases. Vanderbilt received his first start of the season Saturday, where he posted two points, six rebounds, one steal and a block in 24 minutes.
Dec 23, 2023
Moves into starting lineup
Vanderbilt (heel) will move into the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Thunder, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lakers are shaking things up after four straight losses. Vanderbilt will replace D'Angelo Russell in the lineup, so LeBron James will presumably run the point with Vanderbilt pairing with Anthony Davis. Vanderbilt can be a great source of rebounds and steals when he sees enough minutes, but he's averaging just 14.1 minutes per game this season.
Dec 22, 2023
Likely to play Saturday
Vanderbilt (heel) is probable for Saturday's game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has appeared in eight of the Lakers' last nine games but has had a limited impact, averaging 0.9 points and 3.8 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game. He'll likely be able to suit up once again Saturday.
Dec 21, 2023
Will play Thursday
Vanderbilt (heel) will play Thursday against the Timberwolves, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was listed as a game-time call early on, but his availability is not a surprise, as the big man is set to play a sixth straight game despite being listed in the injury report. He might be in line for a bigger role in this one with LeBron James (ankle) set to sit out.
Dec 21, 2023
Expected to play Thursday
Vanderbilt (heel) is listed as probable for Thursday's game versus the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is expected to suit up for his fifth straight game Thursday despite dealing with a left heel injury. With LeBron James (ankle) out, Vanderbilt could be in store for an increased role against Minnesota.
Dec 21, 2023
Scores two off bench
Vanderbilt chipped in two points (1-3 FG, 0-2 3Pt) in 13 minutes during Wednesday's 124-108 loss to Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt missed over a month to begin the season due to left heel bursitis, and he's continued to manage a heel issue since returning to the court in early December. It's unclear whether the issue has impacted his performance, but he's had a relatively limited impact upon his return, averaging 1.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game.
Dec 20, 2023
Upgraded to available
Vanderbilt (heel) will play in Wednesday's game versus the Bulls, Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been upgraded from probable to available for Wednesday's contest despite dealing with a nagging heel injury. The 24-year-old forward should continue to be one of the Lakers' primary options off the bench in the frontcourt.
Dec 19, 2023
Probable for Wednesday
Vanderbilt (heel) is probable for Wednesday against the Bulls, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been carrying probable tags for a while now, but all signs point to him playing yet again. He's had a minor role for the Lakers this season, posting averages of 0.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 14.3 minutes per contest.
Dec 18, 2023

Dec 17, 2023
Probable for Monday
Vanderbilt is probable for Monday's game due to back spasms, Brad Turner of The Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been dealing with back spasms for the last week and he has been given a probable tag for a second consecutive game. Vanderbilt has averaged 1.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 14.6 minutes per game over his last five appearances, most of his impact coming outside of the box score.
Dec 15, 2023

ANALYSIS

Dec 12, 2023
Ruled out against Dallas
Vanderbilt (back) won't play in Tuesday's game versus the Mavericks, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been downgraded from questionable to out Wednesday due to back spasms. Jaxson Hayes, Christian Wood and Rui Hachimura are candidates to receive extended minutes in his absence. Vanderbilt's next chance to suit up is Wednesday's matchup with the Spurs.
Dec 12, 2023
Officially a game-time decision
Vanderbilt is a game-time decision for Tuesday's game against the Mavericks, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has made three consecutive appearances since returning from heel bursitis, but he's now dealing with back spasms in advance of Tuesday's contest. Luka Doncic (back) is cleared for action, so Vanderbilt's defensive versatility would be a relevant loss for the Lakers if he's unable to suit up.
Dec 11, 2023
Back on injury report
Vanderbilt (back) is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Mavericks, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS

Dec 5, 2023
Cleared to play

ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt played 14 minutes in his return from injury Saturday, and he was carrying a probable tag into Tuesday. Rui Hachimura (nasal fracture) will also be available Tuesday, further complicating a crowded frontcourt in Los Angeles.
Dec 4, 2023
Probable for Tuesday
Vanderbilt (heel) is probable for Tuesday's game against the Suns, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt saw limited action in his 2023-24 season debut Saturday against the Rockets (14 minutes), and he's back on the injury report leading up to Tuesday's clash. The team will likely give him the green light closer to tipoff.
Dec 3, 2023
Minimal role in season debut
Vanderbilt (heel) played 14 minutes and finished with zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt), four rebounds and one assist in Saturday's 107-97 win over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was cleared to make his season debut Saturday after sitting out the Lakers' first 20 games while recovering from a left heel injury he sustained early in training camp. The 24-year-old finished the 2022-23 campaign as a starter in the frontcourt alongside Anthony Davis, but Vanderbilt may have to settle for a bench role if the Lakers prefer to support Davis and LeBron James with more shooting.

Set to debut
Vanderbilt (heel) is good to go for Saturday's matchup with the Rockets, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS

ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is getting closer to making his season debut, but his absence looks as though it'll extend into the second leg of a back-to-back set, after the veteran big man remained out for Wednesday's 133-107 win over the Pistons. While Vanderbilt and Rui Hachimura (nose) are on the mend from their respective injuries, Christian Wood should remain the main beneficiary as the first frontcourt player off the bench.
Nov 28, 2023

Vanderbilt (heel) was re-evaluated Monday and has been cleared to begin a return to play progression, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt hasn't yet made his season debut due to left heel bursitis, but he appears to be trending toward a return following Monday's update. Oct 27, 2023
Out at least two more weeks
Vanderbilt (heel) was examined by team doctors Thursday and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Although the Lakers' team doctors determined that Vanderbilt's left heel bursitis is improving, he's facing a multi-week absence to begin the regular season. Taurean Prince has started in his place during the team's first two regular-season games, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him retain that role in Vanderbilt's absence.
Oct 25, 2023
Still sidelined
Vanderbilt (heel) won't play in Thursday's game against the Suns, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS

WIll miss opener
Vanderbilt (heel) is officially out for Tuesday's regular-season opener against Golden State, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.

Still day-to-day

Oct 15, 2023
Out for remainder of preseason
Vanderbilt (heel) will be reevaluated Friday, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt's injury isn't regarded as being serious, but his inability to suit up throughout preseason is eye-catching. The 24-year-old is still expected to be available for the Lakers' regular-season opener on Oct. 24.
Oct 13, 2023
Will miss third straight game
Vanderbilt (heel) has been ruled out for Friday's preseason matchup against the Warriors, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McMenamin relays that the Lakers are simply "monitoring soreness" in Vanderbilt's left heel, and there is no concern about his availability for the regular-season opener in Denver on Oct. 24. Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura and Taurean Prince are competing for the final spot in the starting lineup next to D'Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
Oct 11, 2023
Still sidelined
Vanderbilt (heel) won't play in Wednesday's game against the Kings, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will miss a second consecutive contest due to a left heel injury that came about last week. However, he'll have another opportunity to play against the Warriors on Friday.

ANALYSIS

Oct 6, 2023
Trying to retain starting spot
Vanderbilt is competing with Rui Hachimura and Taurean Prince for the Lakers' final starting spot, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After being traded by Utah at the deadline last season, Vanderbilt quickly carved out a starting role with the Lakers. He started the final 24 regular-season games, averaging 7.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 24.5 minutes. Vanderbilt's defensive prowess also gave the Lakers a tougher identity and a jolt during their playoff run. The sixth-year forward would appear to be the favorite to start alongside LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Austin Reaves and D'Angelo Russell on Opening Night, but due to his raw offensive game, Vanderbilt doesn't have as high of a fantasy ceiling as Hachimura or Prince.

Signs extension
Vanderbilt signed a four-year, $48 million extension with the Lakers on Friday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The final year of the deal is a fully guaranteed player option. After being traded to the Lakers in February, the 6-foot-8 forward excelled as a hard-nosed player who defended multiple positions and rebounded well. Vanderbilt's offense is certainly a work in progress, which limits his overall fantasy value, but he's a core rotational piece for Los Angeles' star-studded roster.
May 22, 2023
Moves to bench
Vanderbilt isn't in the starting five for Monday's Game 4 against Denver, Chris Haynes of Turner Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Rui Hachimura will replace Vanderbilt in the starting lineup Monday. Vanderbilt is averaging 2.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in 13.7 minutes across the first three games of the series.
May 21, 2023
Rough night Saturday
Vanderbilt closed with two points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one rebound across 14 minutes during Saturday's 119-108 loss to the Nuggets in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt remained in the starting lineup Saturday, although managed just two points in 14 minutes. He has basically been a non-factor for the majority of the playoffs, offering nothing on the offensive end. Typically utilized for his defensive production, even that has been well below par. Given the state of the series, the coaching staff could very well opt to go with a different starting five for Game 4 in the hopes of building some momentum.
May 18, 2023
Moves into starting lineup
Vanderbilt will move into the starting lineup for Game 2 versus the Nuggets on Thursday according to Chris Haynes of Turner Sports.
ANALYSIS
Dennis Schroder will head back to the bench with this news. Vanderbilt played a very limited role in the previous series, but the Lakers are opting for more defense and rebounding with this move.
May 12, 2023
Moves to second unit
Vanderbilt will come off the bench in Game 6 against the Warriors on Friday, ESPN's Dave McMenamin reports.
ANALYSIS
Dennis Schroder will join D'Angelo Russell in the backcourt as the Lakers go smaller to counter Golden State's small ball approach. Vanderbilt played a combined 22 minutes in the previous two games, so it's hard to imagine the Lakers turning to him much in Game 6.
May 11, 2023
Offers very little in loss
Vanderbilt ended with zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt), one rebound, one block and one steal across 11 minutes during Wednesday's 121-106 loss to the Warriors in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt remained in the starting lineup Wednesday but managed just 11 minutes of playing time. Outside of a highlight block, Vanderbilt was unable to have any sort of a tangible impact. At this point, he is being used sparingly, depending on the individual game situation. Despite the loss, the Lakers will now head back to Los Angeles for Game 6, looking to advance to the Western Conference Finals.
Apr 25, 2023
Gets hot early
Vanderbilt recorded 15 points (6-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, one assist and three blocks across 20 minutes during Monday's 117-111 overtime victory over the Grizzlies in Game 4 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt did most of his damage during the first quarter, getting the Lakers off to a strong start despite Anthony Davis struggling. Known for his defensive ability, Vanderbilt connected on a pair of corner threes early, adding a pair of blocks as the team took the lead at the first change. Despite his strong two-way performance, Vanderbilt still managed just 20 minutes, highlighting how volatile his role is and likely will be for the remainder of the playoffs.
Apr 12, 2023
Non-factor in victory
Vanderbilt finished Tuesday's 108-102 overtime play-in game win over Minnesota with zero points (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt), three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 22 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt started against his former team but failed to score in just 22 minutes. Despite having carved out a nice role for himself in Los Angeles, Vanderbilt continues to sputter when it comes to consistency. He serves more as a defensive stopper but his lack of offensive versatility means he often finds himself on the bench. The Lakers will face the Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs, a matchup that could call for Vanderbilt's defensive upside a little more.
Apr 3, 2023
Unproductive in victory
Vanderbilt supplied two points (1-2 FG), four rebounds, one assist and one steal over 15 minutes during Sunday's 134-109 win over Houston.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt started again Sunday but played only 15 minutes, his lowest amount since joining the Lakers. Despite having carved out a relatively consistent role, Vanderbilt sits outside the top 160 over the past month. At best, he should be looked at as a streaming consideration for anyone needing steals and boards.
Mar 20, 2023
Grabs 10 boards in win
Vanderbilt produced two points (1-1 FG), 10 rebounds, two assists and one block across 23 minutes during Sunday's 111-105 victory over Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt did very little offensively but was his usual self on defense in the win. The acquisition of Vanderbilt is a huge defensive upgrade for the Lakers, who have gone 9-5 with the Kentucky product in the starting lineup. After stints with the Jazz, Timberwolves and Nuggets, it appears that Vanderbilt has landed in an ideal spot where his skills can be used to full effect.
Mar 16, 2023
Records double-double in loss
Vanderbilt notched 13 points (6-13 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals across 35 minutes during Wednesday's 114-110 loss to Houston.
ANALYSIS
The Lakers played without star big man Anthony Davis (foot) on Wednesday, and Vanderbilt picked up some of the slack in the post. He registered double-digit scoring for the first time in three games and recorded 10 rebounds for his third double-double as a Laker. Vanderbilt is a more useful player in real life than in fantasy, but he's rosterable in most leagues for his ability to rack up boards and steals.
Mar 6, 2023
Double-doubles in win
Vanderbilt produced 10 points (5-11 FG, 0-2 3Pt), 13 rebounds, four assists and one steal across 24 minutes during Sunday's 113-105 victory over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt cobbled together another strong performance Sunday, producing in all the right areas once again. Although his minutes have been a bit up and down over the past week, he is doing just enough to remain viable in standard fantasy formats. He offers upside in only a couple of categories, and so while he isn't for everyone, there is enough there for him to be useful in a range of situations.
Feb 26, 2023
Dominates glass in second half
Vanderbilt notched 15 points (6-8 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 17 rebounds, one assist and four steals in 27 minutes during Sunday's 111-108 victory over the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt had a quiet first half with five points on 1-of-2 shooting to go along with five rebounds. The power forward was a force to be reckoned with in the third quarter, however, grabbing eight boards and three steals while knocking down all four of his field goal attempts for another eight points. He finished the night with a game and season-high 17 rebounds and also led the contest with four steals. It was Vanderbilt's eighth double-double of the season, with his previous one coming back on Jan. 7 against the Bulls.
Feb 16, 2023
Plays 28 minutes in start
Vanderbilt closed Wednesday's 120-102 victory over the Pelicans with six points (3-3 FG), four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 28 minutes.
ANALYSIS
This wasn't the most productive fantasy line for Vanderbilt, but the Lakers pulled out the win and he saw plenty of minutes despite the return of LeBron James (ankle). Vanderbilt can put up plenty of rebounds, assists and defensive stats when the minutes are there, so his fantasy managers will be hoping this new role sticks.
Feb 15, 2023
Set to start against New Orleans
Vanderbilt is in the starting five for Wednesday's game versus the Pelicans, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will replace Rui Hachimura in the starting lineup Wednesday. The 23-year-old forward will make his first start for the Lakers.
Feb 12, 2023
Solid line in debut
Vanderbilt racked up 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, four assists and one steal over 17 minutes during Saturday's 109-103 victory over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt played only 17 minutes in his debut, but it's reasonable to assume that his minutes will increase once his back spasms are in check. The Lakers acquired Rui Hachimura and Mo Bamba before the trade deadline, so the team has no shortage of frontcourt support, and it will be interesting to see how coach Darvin Ham chooses to implement the influx of talent. Right now, the Lakers are starting Hachimura at the four, thus limiting Vanderbilt's short-term potential.
Feb 10, 2023
Not on injury report
Vanderbilt (back) is not on the injury report for Saturday's game at Golden State, suggesting he's available to make his Lakers debut, Kyle Goon of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has healed quickly from the back spasms that popped up right before the trade deadline, and he'll start a new chapter of his NBA career with the revamped Lakers. He figures to compete with Rui Hachimura, Mo Bamba and Wenyen Gabriel for minutes in the frontcourt. The Kentucky product is a rebounding specialist despite being undersized at 6-foot-8, 214 pounds. Fantasy managers should see what his role is like before deciding on whether or not to drop him, since Vanderbilt may continue to play roughly the 24.1 minutes per game he saw in Utah.
Feb 9, 2023
Eyeing Saturday debut
Vanderbilt will not play Thursday, but has a possibility of playing Saturday, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was part of a blockbuster deal that sent D'Angelo Russell and Malik Beasley with him to Los Angeles, but the trio will have to wait until at least Saturday to join the team. The Lakers made a pair of trades following the deal, acquiring Mo Bamba and dismissing Thomas Bryant. Although Vanderbilt is expected to lock down the backup center duties while Mo Bamba serves the final two games of his suspension, he will likely have to battle Bamba and Wenyen Gabriel for frontcourt minutes when the trio is all active.
Feb 8, 2023
Traded to the Lakers
Vanderbilt will be dealt to the Lakers as a part of Wednesday's three-team trade between Los Angeles, Minnesota and Utah, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will add some depth to the Lakers' frontcourt, but this is not an ideal landing spot for him, as he'll now be fighting for minutes with the likes of Anthony Davis, Thomas Bryant and Rui Hachimura. With Vanderbilt leaving Utah, Kelly Olynyk and Walker Kessler will receive the majority of the frontcourt minutes for the Jazz.
Feb 8, 2023
Participates in shootaround
Vanderbilt (back) participated in Wednesday's shootaround, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was unavailable Monday against the Mavericks due to back spasms and is questionable ahead of Wednesday's matchup against Minnesota. His participation in the team's morning shootaround is encouraging for his status against the Timberwolves, but he's also been mentioned in trade rumors ahead of Thursday's deadline.
Feb 7, 2023
Questionable Wednesday
Vanderbilt (back) is questionable for Wednesday's matchup against the Timberwolves, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt sat out Monday's surprising loss to the Mavericks with back spasms. Amid the back issue is the fact that Vanderbilt's name has been in trade rumors, with the deadline being Thursday. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on both situations.
Feb 6, 2023
Ruled out for Monday
Vanderbilt has been ruled out for Monday's matchup with the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt wasn't able to practice on Sunday due to the back spasms, so it's not all that surprising to see him ruled out for Monday's game, particularly with Utah slated to play six games over the next nine days. Expect more minutes for Walker Kessler, Kelly Olynyk and Rudy Gay on Monday, and for now, Vanderbilt should be considered questionable for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves.
Feb 5, 2023
Questionable for Monday
Vanderbilt (back) is questionable to play Monday against the Mavs, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This isn't surprising as Vanderbilt wasn't able to participate in Sunday's practice due to his back issues, so he'll likely be headed towards a game-time decision on Monday night. If he can't give it a go, expect more minutes for Walker Kessler, Kelly Olynyk and Rudy Gay.
Feb 5, 2023
Battling back injury
Vanderbilt didn't participate in practice Sunday due to lower-back spasms, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jazz have yet to provide Vanderbilt with an official injury designation for Monday's game against the Mavericks, but his absence from practice a day in advance of the contest likely makes him questionable -- at best -- to play. With Kelly Olynyk's recent return from a left ankle sprain bringing the Jazz frontcourt back to full strength, Vanderbilt has been held under 20 minutes in both of his last two appearances off the Utah bench.
Feb 4, 2023
Rodman-esque performance Friday
Vanderbilt accumulated zero points (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal across 18 minutes during Friday's 115-108 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt needed just 18 minutes to rip down double-digit boards, marking the second time this season he's reached 10-plus rebounds in fewer than 20 minutes. His involvement in the offense continues to be minimal, as he's scored in double-digits just twice in the past 11 games. The soon-to-be 24-year-old is allegedly on the trade block, but fantasy managers shouldn't worry about him seeing much fewer than the 19.9 minutes he's averaged over the past seven games. If you've rostered him this long, there's no reason to speculatively drop him.
Jan 18, 2023
Slides to bench
Vanderbilt will return to the second unit for Wednesday's game against the Clippers, Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt enjoyed a two-game stint in the starting five with Lauri Markkanen sidelined due to a hip issue. However, with Markkanen back in action, he will come off the bench. In 4 bench appearances, Vanderbilt has averaged 7.0 points and 7.0 rebounds over 22.1 minutes.
Jan 15, 2023
Returns to starting lineup Saturday
Vanderbilt ended with eight points (4-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt), nine rebounds, one assist and one block across 25 minutes during Saturday's 118-117 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt shifted back into the starting lineup Saturday after Lauri Markkanen was ruled out with a hip injury. While he did flirt with a double-double, he added very little in terms of defensive numbers. With Kelly Olynyk (ankle) slated to miss at least the next week, Vanderbilt's role is likely to fluctuate. He remains a viable asset in all 12-team leagues, although his limited skillset means he is certainly not an option for everyone.
Jan 14, 2023
Starting Saturday
Vanderbilt will start in Saturday's game against the 76ers, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has come off the bench in each of his last two appearances but will enter the first unit in the place of Lauri Markkanen (hip). in 39 starts this season, Vanderbilt has averaged 8.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 25.0 minutes.
Jan 10, 2023
Moves to bench
Vanderbilt isn't in the starting lineup with Tuesday's game versus the Cavaliers, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jazz will start Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler in the frontcourt, as Malik Beasley will replace Vanderbilt in the starting five. The 23-year-old big man will come off the bench for just the third time this season.
Jan 7, 2023
Solid double-double in loss
Vanderbilt provided 15 points (6-13 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 14 rebounds, three assists and one steal across 26 minutes during Saturday's 126-118 loss to the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt matched his season high with 14 rebounds, earning his seventh double-double of the year. His scoring remains inconsistent, but his boards and steals continue to provide fantasy managers with decent value in category leagues. In 40 games played, the young forward is averaging 8.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals per contest.
Jan 4, 2023
Flirts with double-double
Vanderbilt totaled 14 points (7-12 FG, 0-1 3Pt), nine rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal across 25 minutes during Tuesday's 117-115 loss to the Kings.
ANALYSIS
It's becoming increasingly clear that Kelly Olynyk isn't getting the job done for Utah inside, and a change would have probably been made long ago if Vanderbilt wasn't alongside him picking up the slack. tThe youngster currently averages eight rebounds per game, and that number has continued to climb throughout the season.
Jan 1, 2023
Flops in Saturday's loss
Vanderbilt contributed four points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and one assist in 17 minutes during Saturday's 126-123 loss to Miami.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was nowhere to be seen in the loss, managing just 17 minutes after picking up three early fouls. It's certainly been a season full of ups and downs for Vanderbilt, despite the fact he has a regular spot in the starting rotation. He is far from a must-roster player, even though he sits just outside the top 100 in 12-team leagues. His limited skillset means he isn't going to be a viable asset for everyone, and yet can be ultra-valuable in specific builds.
Dec 29, 2022
Flirts with double-double
Vanderbilt closed with 10 points (4-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 28 minutes during Wednesday's 112-107 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt came close to his sixth double-double of the season in the loss. Although his scoring totals can be a little rocky, Vanderbilt has been a consistent source of rebounds as he holds down the frontcourt with Kelly Olynyk. Replacing Rudy Gobert was no easy task for the Jazz, but the players assembled for the rebuild have risen to the challenge and are faring far better than expected.
Dec 20, 2022
Much-needed double-double in win
Vanderbilt closed with 18 points (7-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 13 rebounds, six assists and two steals over 32 minutes during Tuesday's 126-111 win over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt finally got back on track in the win, delivering arguably his best line of the season. Despite starting for the majority of the season, his playing time has hovered at around 25 minutes per night. He has been a top 100 asset thus far, although his value is heavily weighted toward rebounds, steals and field goal percentage. While he remains a must-roster player across most formats, let's hope he can springboard off this performance.
Dec 14, 2022
Strong double-double Tuesday
Vanderbilt logged 18 points (8-9 FG, 2-3 FT), 14 rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal across 23 minutes during Tuesday's 121-100 victory over New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was at his dynamic best in the win, turning in arguably his best overall performance of the season. After a rough period over the past few weeks, it was nice to see him out there doing what he does best. Foul issues limited him to just 23 minutes, meaning this could have been an even better night had things gone his way. While his limited skillset does preclude him from having significant fantasy appeal, he remains a 12-team asset for anyone seeking boards and steals.
Dec 11, 2022
Back in starting lineup Saturday
Vanderbilt racked up six points (2-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, four assists and three steals over 26 minutes during Saturday's 115-110 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt moved back into the starting lineup Saturday, chalking up a well-balanced, yet low-volume performance. Despite being a regular member of the starting lineup, Vanderbilt has been a little disappointing thus far this season. While he is inside the top 100, his value is predominantly tied to rebounds, steals and field goal percentage. He probably should be rostered in most formats but is clearly not for everyone.
Dec 10, 2022
Returns to starting five
Vanderbilt is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Nuggets, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will replace Walker Kessler in the starting five Saturday. He will return to his usual starting spot after coming off the bench in the previous two games.
Dec 10, 2022
Posts double-double off bench
Vanderbilt supplied 12 points (4-8 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 4-5 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals across 27 minutes during Friday's 118-108 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt came off the bench and had a quiet first half with five points on 2-of-5 shooting to go along with three rebounds. After not scoring in the third quarter, he went 2-of-2 from the field with five points in the final period while also grabbing four of his team-high 10 boards. The Jazz forward recorded a double-double for just the fourth time this season and now has two steals in three of his last five games.
Dec 7, 2022
Moves to bench Wednesday
Vanderbilt isn't in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Warriors, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Walker Kessler will replace Vanderbilt in the starting lineup Wednesday. However, this move is temporary, as Jazz coach Will Hardy wants extra size in the lineup with Lauri Markkanen (illness) out.
Dec 1, 2022
Improved performance Wednesday
Vanderbilt recorded 14 points (7-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 12 rebounds, two assists and two steals across 25 minutes during Wednesday's 125-112 win over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt recorded just his third double-double of the season in the win, a nice turnaround for managers who have had to show plenty of patience. Despite the starting role, Vanderbilt has been underwhelming thus far, typically seeing minutes in the low to mid-20s. He remains a viable 12-team asset but is really only suited to teams in need of rebounds and steals.
Nov 26, 2022
Records second double-double
Vanderbilt provided 13 points (5-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal in 27 minutes during Friday's 129-118 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt knocked down three of four shots from the field for six points in the first half along with four rebounds and two assists. He added another seven points in the second half on 2-of-4 shooting and grabbed five of his team-high 10 rebounds in the fourth quarter. It was just Vanderbilt's second double-double of the season though he has posted double-digit rebounds in four of his last seven contests.
Nov 19, 2022
Season high in assists
Vanderbilt produced six points (3-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 11 rebounds and eight assists across 27 minutes before fouling out of Friday's 134-133 win over the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt fouled out of this game but not before making a huge impact with double-digit rebounds and a season-best eight assists. The young forward continues to contribute where he can with efficient shooting and excellent rebounding numbers in 25 minutes per game. He's never been a huge blocks contributor, but he has been good for about one steal per game this season.
Nov 13, 2022
Strong night on glass
Vanderbilt chipped in nine points (4-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds and three assists over 24 minutes during Sunday's 105-98 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt fell just one point shy of his second double-double of the season, but he enjoyed an efficient shooting night and also dished out three assists, a mark he's hit or surpassed in three of five games so far in November. Vanderbilt's playing time continues to fluctuate on a nightly basis, but he's been able to add value in multiple categories even on nights when he fails to log 20-plus minutes.
Nov 9, 2022
Returns to starting lineup
Vanderbilt is in the starting five for Wednesday's game versus the Hawks, Lauren L. Williams of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt makes his return to the starting lineup after missing the last two games due to right groin soreness. Vanderbilt has averaged 9.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 25.4 minutes across 10 games this season.
Nov 9, 2022
Upgraded to available Wednesday
Vanderbilt will play in Wednesday's game versus the Hawks, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribunereports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt had missed the last two games due to right groin soreness. With Vanderbilt's return, Malik Beasley will likely move back to the bench against the Hawks.
Nov 8, 2022
Questionable Wednesday
Vanderbilt (groin) is questionable for Wednesday's game at Atlanta, Sarah Todd of The Deseret News reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt's right groin soreness has caused him to miss the past two games, prompting Malik Beasley to start. Vanderbilt's availability may come down to a game-time call.
Nov 7, 2022
Won't play vs. Lakers
Vanderbilt (groin) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been nursing right adductor soreness, and the injury will force him to miss Monday's matchup. Rudy Gay, Simone Fontecchio and Talen Horton-Tucker are all candidates for more minutes with Vanderbilt sitting.
Nov 7, 2022
Questionable Monday
Vanderbilt (groin) is questionable for Monday's matchup against the Lakers, Eric Walden reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt missed the first leg of the team's back-to-back on Sunday due to right adductor soreness and is listed as questionable for Monday. Through 10 games this season, Vanderbilt has averaged 9.0 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 25.4 minutes per game.
Nov 6, 2022
Ruled out Sunday
Vanderbilt (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Clippers, Sarah Todd of The Deseret News reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup due to right adductor soreness, and he'll be unable to suit up for the first half of a back-to-back set. Rudy Gay and Lauri Markkanen are candidates to handle increased roles against the Clippers.
Nov 6, 2022
Iffy for Sunday's game
Vanderbilt is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Clippers due to right adductor soreness, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Sunday marks the front end of a back-to-back set, so Vanderbilt could be at some risk of missing Monday's game against the Lakers even if he suits up versus the Clippers. The fifth-year big man has started in all 10 of Utah's games to date, averaging 9.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.6 three-pointers and 0.5 blocks in 25.3 minutes per contest while shooting 56.1 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.
Oct 30, 2022
Limited to 23 minutes in win
Vanderbilt produced seven points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 23 minutes during Saturday's 124-123 win over the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt saw just 23 minutes in the win as the coaching staff seemingly opted to go in another direction down the stretch. While his production has been more than adequate, his minutes thus far have been wildly inconsistent, ranging from 18 all the way up to 32. His spot in the starting lineup appears assured and the fact he can contribute across multiple categories does mean he should be able to maintain value, even in limited minutes.
Oct 25, 2022
Serves up double-double in loss
Vanderbilt posted 13 points (6-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 32 minutes during Monday's 114-108 loss to the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has carved a spot into Utah's starting five, and although there's no substitute for Rudy Gobert, the former Timberwolf is definitely contributing as a defensive presence in the frontcourt. So far, it looks like he'll join Kelly Olynyk up front, but Walker Kessler will press Olynyk for playing time. Udoka Azubuike (ankle) may also muddy the waters at the four and five spots when he returns.
Oct 24, 2022
Scores 15 points Sunday
Vanderbilt closed Sunday's 122-121 overtime win over New Orleans with 15 points (5-7 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), four rebounds, one assist, one block and four steals across 28 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was one of four starters that scored in double digits for Utah, and he was particularly efficient since he missed just two shots all game long en route to his first double-digit scoring output of the season. He's not expected to operate as one of Utah's go-to players on offense this campaign, but he certainly has the quality to put up these numbers from time to time.
Oct 12, 2022
Logs 21 minutes in starting role
Vanderbilt totaled six points (3-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 0-4 FT), eight rebounds and three steals in 21 minutes during Tuesday's loss to the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt demonstrated the full range of his fantasy game Tuesday, both good and bad. Projecting forward, he should be a solid source of boards and steals but is likely to hurt you in multiple other areas, such as free three efficiency and scoring. Managers know what they are getting when drafting him, meaning he should only be taken when suited to a certain build.
Jul 1, 2022
Headed to Utah
Vanderbilt was traded from the Timberwolves to the Jazz on Friday along with Patrick Beverley, Malik Beasley, Walker Kessler and four first-round picks in exchange for Rudy Gobert, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt appeared in 74 games with Minnesota last season, averaging 6.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals in 25.4 minutes per contest. He'll presumably start at power forward for the Jazz in 2022-23 in what will be his fifth NBA season.
Apr 22, 2022
Double-double in Game 3 loss
Vanderbilt produced 10 points (2-8 FG, 6-8 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists and three steals over 32 minutes during Thursday's 104-95 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
After playing only nine minutes in Game 2 and posting poor numbers in Game 1, Vanderbilt bounced back in Game 3 to record his first double-double since March 23. The 23-year-old put up decent numbers during the regular season overall, but he struggled down the stretch, averaging 3.8 points and 6.3 boards in 24.5 minutes over the final six games. Hopefully for the Timberwolves, who find themselves in a 2-1 hole in the series after blowing a 26-point lead Thursday, Vanderbilt's performance in the loss was a sign he's ready to make a bigger impact.
Apr 11, 2022
Minimal output Sunday
Vanderbilt finished with zero points (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt), three rebounds and one assist across 14 minutes during Sunday's 124-120 loss to the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Although Vanderbilt remained in the starting lineup for Sunday's regular-season finale, the Timberwolves leaned on their bench contributors since the team had already clinched a spot in the play-in tournament. He had averaged 6.0 points and 6.4 rebounds in his five appearances leading up to Sunday's matchup, and he figures to see closer to his normal workload in the play-in matchup against the Clippers on Tuesday.
Mar 24, 2022
Double-doubles in loss
Vanderbilt had 12 points (5-11 FG, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal across 26 minutes during Wednesday's 125-116 loss to the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt scored in double figures for the first time since March 5 and grabbed his most rebounds since Feb. 24 en route to his eighth double-double of the campaign. Over his five previous outings, he averaged just 4.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 22.2 minutes per game, but Wednesday's performance may have gotten him back on track offensively.
Mar 19, 2022
Cleared for game Saturday
Vanderbilt (quadriceps) will play in Saturday's contest against the Bucks, Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt returned from a two-game absence Wednesday and tallied four points and nine rebounds in 25 minutes against the Lakers. He has started each of the past 53 games in which he has played and will likely be in the starting unit again Saturday.
Mar 18, 2022
Questionable vs. Milwaukee
Vanderbilt (quadriceps) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt returned to the court Wednesday against the Lakers after missing three of the last four games with a bruised quadriceps, and he totaled four points, nine rebounds, an assist and two steals in 25 minutes. If he's unavailable Saturday, Taurean Prince and Naz Reid (back) could see increased playing time.
Mar 17, 2022
Limited in return Wednesday
Vanderbilt ended with four points (2-4 FG), nine rebounds, one assist and two steals over 25 minutes during Wednesday's 124-104 victory over the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was back on the floor after missing the past two games, walking away with a serviceable, yet unflattering performance. After a hot start to the season, his production has dropped off over the past month, putting up averages of just 5.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 0.4 blocks per game. Given the need for high productivity right now, managers should view Vanderbilt as nothing more than a streaming option in standard fantasy formats.
Mar 16, 2022
Back in starting five
Vanderbilt (quadriceps) is starting Wednesday's game against the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt missed two straight games and three out of the past four with a bruised quadriceps, but he'll return to the lineup for Wednesday's contest. He's averaged 5.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals in 24.8 minutes over his past five contests.
Mar 15, 2022
Questionable Wednesday
Vanderbilt (quadriceps) is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Lakers, Dane Moore of BringMeTheNews.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has missed the past two games. His presence carries more weight than ever, as Jaden McDaniels (ankle) has been ruled out for at least two weeks.
Mar 13, 2022
Ruled out for Monday
Vanderbilt (quad) will not play Monday against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
This will be the third absence in four games for Vanderbilt, who continues to deal with a bruised left quad. Expect Jaden McDaniels to log another start in his place.
Mar 12, 2022
Out Saturday
Vanderbilt (quad) is out for Saturday's game against the Heat, Dane Moore of BringMeTheNews.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is still dealing with a bruised quad and will get the day off on the second leg of a back-to-back set. His absence figures to open up a spot in the starting lineup for Jaden McDaniels.
Mar 11, 2022
Playing, starting Friday
Vanderbilt (quadriceps) will play and start Friday against the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt returns to the lineup following a one-game absence. Since the start of February, he's averaged 7.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 25.3 minutes.
Mar 10, 2022
Questionable against Magic
Vanderbilt (quadriceps) is questionable for Friday's game against the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt sat out Wednesday's game against Oklahoma City due to a left quad contusion, but he'll have a chance to return Friday. He's averaged 6.4 points and 7.8 rebounds in 26.2 minutes per game across his last five appearances.
Mar 9, 2022
Out Wednesday
Vanderbilt (quadriceps) is out Wednesday against the Thunder, Dane Moore of BringMeTheNews.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Moore notes that it seems like a rest situation, so fantasy managers can likely expect Vanderbilt back Friday. In his absence, more minutes should be available for Jaden McDaniels, Josh Okogie and other forwards.
Mar 8, 2022
Listed as questionable
Vanderbilt (quad) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is among several players who are once again listed as questionable, though he hasn't missed a game since the end of December, so chances are he'll be cleared to play. Vanderbilt finished Monday night's lopsided win over the Blazers with four points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Mar 6, 2022
Gets jump in playing time Saturday
Vanderbilt finished with 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-5 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and one steal across 37 minutes in Saturday's 135-121 win over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
For the first time in six games, Vanderbilt climbed over the 30-minute mark, but the absence of Anthony Edwards (knee) for a third straight contest along with Taurean Prince's (back) early exit had a hand in the elevated playing time. Before Saturday, Vanderbilt had been trending down through his first five outings coming out of the All-Star break, averaging 4.6 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.6 blocks. He may be more of a streaming option for rebounds and defensive stats rather than a player that needs to be rostered in 12-team leagues.
Mar 5, 2022
Turns things around Friday
Vanderbilt posted four points (2-4 FG), eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals over 24 minutes during Friday's 138-101 win over the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt got back on track Friday, despite scoring just four points. His playing time was down as a result of the scoreline but during his time on the floor, he brought four defensive counters, plus a handful of boards. His fantasy value has been built on these foundations but lately, things have been trending downwards. Fantasy managers will be hoping this is the start of a late-season turnaround.
Mar 4, 2022
Good to go Friday
Vanderbilt (quad) is available for Friday's game against the Thunder, Dane Moore of BringMeTheNews.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The forward will play through a bruised quad. Vanderbilt hasn't missed a game since Dec. 28. Since then, he's averaged 7.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 27.0 minutes.
Mar 3, 2022
Questionable at OKC
Vanderbilt is questionable for Friday's matchup against the Thunder due to a bruised left quad.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt hasn't missed a game since Dec. 28. Since then, he's averaged 7.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 27.0 minutes. If he sits out Friday, more minutes could be in store for Jaden McDaniels and Taurean Prince.
Mar 1, 2022
Good to go
Vanderbilt (shoulder) is available Tuesday against the Warriors, Chris Hine of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was initially questionable due to left shoulder soreness but is good to go. In February, he averaged 7.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 25.0 minutes.
Mar 1, 2022
Dealing with shoulder injury
Vanderbilt is questionable for Tuesday's contest against the Warriors due to left shoulder soreness.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt finished Monday's win over the Cavaliers with eight points (3-4 FG, 2-4 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and one block in 27 minutes, but he presumably picked up the shoulder injury as well. If the fourth-year big man is unable to suit up, Jaden McDaniels, Taurean Prince and Naz Reid are all candidates for increased roles.
Feb 16, 2022
Reels in 14 boards in win
Vanderbilt finished with 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-4 FT), 14 rebounds and one steal across 38 minutes Tuesday in the Timberwolves' 126-120 overtime win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt's double-double performance was a welcome sight following a string of underwhelming outings from the fourth-year forward. He had played 26 minutes or fewer in all but one of the Timberwolves' last eight games, but the extra period plus Anthony Edwards' (ankle) early exit allowed Vanderbilt's playing time to push up a bit.
Feb 10, 2022
Snags 11 boards Wednesday
Vanderbilt provided eight points (3-4 FG, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 34 minutes during Wednesday's 132-119 loss to the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt led Minnesota in rebounding in the contest, posting exactly 11 boards for his second straight contest. The fourth-year forward also collected a blocked shot for the fourth straight game. Vanderbilt is posting a career-best 9.0 rebounds on the season, but he doesn't score enough (7.3 points per game) to be more than a low-end fantasy asset.
Feb 2, 2022
Bulldozes Nuggets in win
Vanderbilt posted 18 points (8-12 FG, 2-4 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in 19 minutes Tuesday in the Timberwolves' 130-115 win over the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been a plus contributor in field-goal percentage, rebounds and the two defensive stats categories throughout the season, but he saw a spike in shot attempts Tuesday while Anthony Edwards (five points on eight shot attempts) surprisingly took more of a back seat on offense. It's probably best to view Edwards' quiet night as an outlier, and assuming D'Angelo Russell (lower leg) returns to the lineup in the near future, Vanderbilt won't have a clear path to double-digit field-goal attempts moving forward. Even so, his steady production in the aforementioned four categories has made him a must-roster option in 12-team leagues for a while now.
Jan 28, 2022
Available against Phoenix
Vanderbilt (foot) is starting Friday's game against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt dealt with a right foot sprain ahead of Friday's matchup but will be able to play through the issue. He's played at least 30 minutes in four of his last five appearances and has averaged 9.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 30.6 minutes per game during that time.
Jan 28, 2022
Questionable for Friday's contest
Vanderbilt is questionable for Friday's contest against the Suns due to a right foot sprain.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt logged his sixth double-double of the season during Thursday's loss, but he also presumably picked up an injury as well. If he's unable to suit up, Jaden McDaniels, Taurean Prince and Naz Reid would all be candidates for increased roles.
Jan 26, 2022
Logs sixth double-double of season
Vanderbilt totaled 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-5 FT), 13 rebounds, six assists, one block and two steals across 36 minutes during Tuesday's 109-107 victory over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Although Vanderbilt flies under the radar among Minnesota's flashier playmakers, the Kentucky product is quietly putting together the best season of his career. He's averaging 26 minutes of court time and has held down the starting tole at power forward since mid-November. Shot volume is the only thing keeping Vanderbilt from next-level production, as he's already shown a knack for collecting a solid and consistent rebound total.
Jan 24, 2022
Approaches double-double Sunday
Vanderbilt totaled nine points (3-3 FG, 3-4 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and five steals over 32 minutes during Sunday's 136-125 victory over the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Although Vanderbilt didn't have much shot volume Sunday, he was perfect from the floor and made 75 percent of his attempts from the charity stripe. The 22-year-old also led the Timberwolves with nine rebounds and flirted with a double-double in the comfortable win. He's been held to single-digit scoring totals in four of the last six games, but his production on the boards has allowed him to maintain a relatively high fantasy floor.
Jan 14, 2022
Grabs team-high 13 boards
Vanderbilt contributed eight points (4-5 FG) and 13 rebounds across 30 minutes during Thursday's 116-108 loss to Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has registered double-digit rebounds 16 times this season, including at least 13 boards 10 times. On the season, he's averaging 6.6 points and 9.2 rebounds in 25.6 minutes per game, but his fantasy potential is limited with Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell handling most of the offensive production. Either way, Vanderbilt's energy and nose for the ball makes him a high-floor option in most formats.
Jan 10, 2022
Dominant against Rockets
Vanderbilt produced 21 points (10-14 FG, 1-3 FT), 19 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals in 31 minutes during Sunday's 141-123 victory over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt came within one rebound of posting his first career 20-20 double-double Sunday, but he was on the bench in the closing minutes since the Timberwolves held a comfortable lead. However, the 22-year-old still posted a career high on the boards and has now brought in double-digit rebounds in four of the last five games. Across that span, he's averaged 9.6 points and 13.8 rebounds in 29.8 minutes per contest.
Jan 8, 2022
Grabs season-high 16 boards
Vanderbilt provided 11 points (5-9 FG, 1-3 FT), 16 rebounds, three assists and three steals over 28 minutes during Friday's 135-105 victory over Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was a beast on the boards Friday, tying his season high -- a mark he set during a 110-92 win over the Lakers on Dec. 17. The fourth-year big man also scored in double figures for the first time since Dec. 12 and notched his fourth double-double of the season. On the year, he's averaging 6.1 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 25.3 minutes.
Jan 4, 2022
Near double-double Monday
Vanderbilt posted eight points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt), nine rebounds and one steal in 28 minutes Monday in the Timberwolves' 122-104 win over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has now appeared in three contests following a six-game absence while in the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols. He received only 22 minutes in his first game back in action Dec. 31, but Vanderbilt has seen his playing time in the subsequent two contests now that he's gotten a chance to get reconditioned. Thanks to his strong field-goal percentage and solid contributions in rebounds and the two defensive categories, Vanderbilt looks like a roster-worthy player in the majority of 12-team leagues.
Jan 2, 2022
Active Sunday
Vanderbilt (conditioning) is available to play Sunday against the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Though the forward is still working to get back to full speed, Vanderbilt will be active for the Wolves as they face the Lakers. Vanderbilt posted five points and added seven rebounds in 22 minutes during the team's loss to the Jazz on Friday.
Jan 1, 2022
Questionable Sunday
Vanderbilt (conditioning) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt played 22 minutes Friday against the Jazz but apparently still is dealing with conditioning issues. If he has to sit out, more minutes could be available for Tauren Prince (conditioning) and Jake Layman.
Dec 31, 2021
Will be available Friday
Vanderbilt (conditioning) will be available for Friday's contest against the Jazz, Chris Hine of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt, along with Anthony Edwards and Taurean Prince, will be available after clearing protocols earlier in the week, but coach Chris Finch said they'll have to watch their conditioning, especially in the altitude. Before his four-game absence, Vanderbilt was averaging 7.0 points and 10.4 rebounds across 31.7 minutes per game.
Dec 30, 2021
Questionable at Utah
Vanderbilt (COVID-19) is questionable against the Jazz on Friday, according to Dane Moore of BringMeTheNews.com.
ANALYSIS
There is a chance Vanderbilt needs more time to be conditioned again after sitting out four games because of COVID-19 health and safety protocols. They have Jaden McDaniels -- and maybe Taurean Prince -- available if the starting power forward remains unavailable.
Dec 30, 2021
Clears health and safety protocols
Vanderbilt has cleared the league's health and safety protocols, and he returned to practice Thursday, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was unavailable for a week and a half due to the league's health and safety protocols. Although he practiced Thursday, it's not yet clear whether he'll be available for Friday's game against the Jazz.
Dec 20, 2021
Enters health and safety protocols
Vanderbilt was placed in the league's health and safety protocols Monday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt and Patrick Beverley landed in the NBA's COVID-19 protocols Monday, joining a growing list of Timberwolves sidelined due to the protocols. While it's not yet clear how long Vanderbilt will be sidelined, Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid and Jake Layman should see increased run in his absence.
Dec 10, 2021
Solid production continues Friday
Vanderbilt posted nine points (3-6 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-3 FT), eight rebounds, two assists, one block and three steals across 30 minutes during Friday's 123-106 loss to the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt did a bit of everything in the loss, continuing what has been a nice stretch of games. He is locked in as the starting power forward and is rewarding fantasy managers with solid fantasy production. Scoring is not typically in his wheelhouse but his defensive upside, along with an ability to crash the boards, makes him a must-roster player in all standard leagues.
Dec 3, 2021
Starting Friday
Vanderbilt (illness) will play and start at small forward in Friday's matchup with the Nets.
ANALYSIS
No surprise here, as Vanderbilt was probable heading into the night. Look for him to take on his usual workload assuming he avoids any setbacks. He could potentially see some more usage, as Karl-Anthony Towns (back) will not play.
Dec 2, 2021
Probable vs. Nets
Vanderbilt (illness) is considered probable for Friday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been dealing with flu-like symptoms throughout the week. He missed Monday's game against Indiana but returned to play 33 minutes and grab 12 boards in Wednesday's loss to the Wizards. Barring a setback, the Wolves are expecting Vanderbilt to be available again Friday. He's started the last 11 games in which he's appeared.
Dec 1, 2021
Good to go
Vanderbilt (illness) is available Wednesday against the Wizards, freelance NBA reporter Dane Moore reports.
ANALYSIS
The forward will return after a one-game absence. Over his past six appearances, he's averaged 7.5 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.8 assists and 1.0 blocks in 27.2 minutes.
Nov 30, 2021
Questionable at Washington
Vanderbilt (illness) is questionable Wednesday against the Wizards, freelance NBA reporter Dane Moore reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt caught the flu and sat out Monday against the Pacers but could return as soon as Wednesday. He's started his past 10 appearances with averages of 6.3 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.4 assists in 24.3 minutes.
Nov 29, 2021
Late scratch, won't play Monday
Updating a previous report, Vanderbilt (illness) will not be available Monday against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
The Timberwolves initially announced Vanderbilt as the starter at power forward, but the team has since clarified that he will not be available due to flu-like symptoms. Josh Okogie will get the starting nod in Vanderbilt's place.
Nov 29, 2021
Available Monday
Vanderbilt (illness) is available and starting Monday against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt will be available Monday after being considered questionable with a non-COVID illness. He's averaged 7.5 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.8 assists and 1.0 blocks in 27.2 minutes over the past six games.
Nov 29, 2021
Dealing with non-COVID illness
Vanderbilt (illness) is questionable for Monday's contest against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt and Jaden McDaniels both landed on the injury report Monday morning with flu-like symptoms. If neither forward is able to play, then Taurean Prince and Naz Reid would both likely see extended minutes against Indiana.
Nov 22, 2021
Double-doubles in victory
Vanderbilt closed Monday's 110-96 victory over New Orleans with 16 points (6-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-5 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and two steals across 25 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt had himself another productive night Monday, walking away with his first double-double of the season. He appears to have established himself as the starting power forward, thanks to his strong defensive output and ability to crash the boards. Offensive production such as this is not something that is likely to stick; however, his overall upside warrants 12-team consideration, at least for the time being.
Nov 13, 2021
Remains in lineup
Vanderbilt will start for the second straight game Saturday against the Clippers, freelance NBA reporter Dane Moore reports.
ANALYSIS
Heading into Saturday's game, Vanderbilt had started four games while coming off the bench seven times. He's averaged 23.3 minutes as starter compared to 16.4 minutes as a bench player, though he was on the court for just 18 minutes Friday against the Lakers, so there's no guarantee that the starting nod means he'll be a considerably more important part of the rotation.
Nov 12, 2021
Starting against Lakers
Vanderbilt is starting Friday's game against the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt had come off the bench in each of the last four games, and he averaged 4.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per contest during that time. Jaden McDaniels will come off the bench Friday.
Nov 3, 2021
Will come off bench Wednesday
Vanderbilt will come off the bench Wednesday against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
After starting the previous three games, the 22-year-old will return to the bench for Wednesday's contest with Josh Okogie retaking the starting spot. In the three games where Vanderbilt came off the bench, he averaged 2.0 points and 3.7 rebounds compared to 8.7 points and 9.0 rebounds in his three starts.
Nov 2, 2021
Grabs eight rebounds in start
Vanderbilt contributed 10 points (3-8 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), and eight rebounds across 29 minutes in Monday's 115-97 loss to the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt registered his third consecutive start in the loss, which signifies that Minnesota's starting lineup is crystallizing. . Although initial reports hinted that he' would be in a timeshare with Jaden McDaniels at power forward, the two have played together for three consecutive games in the starting five.
Oct 27, 2021
Will start Wednesday
Vanderbilt will start at power forward against the Bucks on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old forward has been given the starting nod after coming off the bench in the first three games of the season. This is likely because he will serve as the primary defender against Giannis Antetokounmpo, but it does serve as a chance for him to earn a larger role on the team. So far this campaign, Vanderbilt has averaged just 2.0 points and 3.7 rebounds across 12.3 minutes.
Oct 21, 2021
Scores just two points in opener
Vanderbilt scored two points (2-2 FT) with three rebounds and two steals in 15 minutes in Wednesday's season-opening win over Houston.
ANALYSIS
Josh Okogie got the start at small forward, but Vanderbilt could move into that role and get more minutes when Minnesota needs more rebounds from its front court. It's only one game, but Vanderbilt had a smaller role than probably expected off the bench.
Oct 19, 2021
Off injury report
Vanderbilt (ankle) is not on the injury report ahead of Wednesday's opener against the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt went through practice Monday, and apparently, things went well. He could split time at power forward this season with Jaden McDaniels.

Sep 15, 2021
Re-signs with Minnesota
The Timberwolves re-signed Vanderbilt on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt was a restricted free agent this offseason and will stick with the Timberwolves for at least one more season. The 22-year-old averaged 5.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals across 17.8 minutes per game last season. He will likely garner a similar role during the 2021-22 campaign.
Jul 31, 2021
Becomes restricted free agent
Vanderbilt was extended a qualifying offer by the Timberwolves on Saturday, making him a restricted free agent, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Last season was the best of Vanderbilt's career, and he demonstrated his potential as a defensive specialist. He averaged 1.7 combined steals-plus-blocks in just 17.8 minutes per game and had four performances with at least two steals and two blocks. He enters restricted free agency as a 22-year-old.
May 7, 2021
Starting Friday
Vanderbilt will start Friday's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
With Jaden McDaniels (personal) out, Vanderbilt will get the start at power forward. In his 25 previous starts, Vanderbilt averaged 6.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals in 19.7 minutes.
May 6, 2021
Minutes picking up
Vanderbilt has received double-digit minutes off the bench in 12 straight games, averaging 5.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 blocks and 0.9 steals per contest over that stretch.
ANALYSIS
Shortly after surrendering his starting role at power forward to Jaden McDaniels in late March, Vanderbilt dropped out of head coach Chris Finch's rotation for the first half of April. Vanderbilt since appears to have regained Finch's faith, as he's re-emerged as a fixture on the second unit for about three weeks now. The 22-year-old has proven useful as a streamer for defensive stats, but beyond that, his fantasy upside will be capped so long as McDaniels continues to handle the larger share of the minutes load at power forward.
Apr 28, 2021
Strong performance in win
Vanderbilt recorded eight points (4-4 FG), seven rebounds, three steals and two assists in 22 minutes during Tuesday's 114-107 win over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt's eight points represented his most since April 16, and his three steals were his most since Feb. 24. The third-year guard has carved out a rotation spot with the Wolves this season. He's a low-volume offense, defensive-minded player. In his 17.2 minutes per game, Vanderbilt averages 5.1 points on 59.1 percent shooting, 5.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.6 combined steals-plus-blocks.
Apr 13, 2021
Tallies nine points off bench Tuesday
Vanderbilt tallied nine points (2-2 FT, 5-6 FT), four rebounds, four blocks, three assists and one steal during Tuesday's loss to Brooklyn.
ANALYSIS
This was Vanderbilt's first appearance since April 3 against the 76ers, as the forward snapped a streak of four straight games without seeing the court. Vanderbilt's nine points were the most he has scored since totaling 12 points versus Portland on March 14. The former Kentucky product also managed a career best in takeaways.
Mar 29, 2021
Cast out of rotation
Vanderbilt (coach's decision) didn't leave the bench Monday in the Timberwolves' 112-107 loss to the Nets.
ANALYSIS
After playing just four minutes -- his fewest since Jan. 3 -- in a blowout loss to the Rockets on Saturday, Vanderbilt unsurprisingly dropped out of the rotation entirely in a more competitive game Monday. At this point, Jaden McDaniels looks to have gained head coach Chris Finch's trust as the starting power forward, with the rookie picking up 38 minutes Monday and tallying 13 points (5-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt), seven rebounds, four assists, four blocks and one steal. Vanderbilt could eventually get another look in a backup role over Juancho Hernangomez, who only played seven minutes against Brooklyn and appears to be barely clinging on to a rotation spot.
Mar 27, 2021
Moves to bench
Vanderbilt will come off the bench Saturday against the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old was slated to come off the bench Wednesday versus Dallas but ended up being a late addition to the lineup with Josh Okogie (COVID-19 protocols) being unavailable. Malik Beasley is back from his suspension, pushing Vanderbilt to a reserve role while Jaden McDaniels starts at power forward.
Mar 24, 2021
Late lineup addition
Vanderbilt will start Wednesday's game against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old was originally omitted from Wednesday's lineup, but Josh Okogie was a late scratch due to the health and safety protocols. Vanderbilt is looking to break out of a three-game scoreless streak.
Mar 24, 2021
Shifts back to bench
Vanderbilt will come off the bench Wednesday against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old will head to the bench for the second time in the past three contests after starting the previous 15 games for Minnesota. Vanderbilt hasn't scored a single point across the last three games.

Back in starting lineup
Vanderbilt is in the starting lineup at power forward for Monday's game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt started 15 straight games before playing just five minutes off the bench in the Timberwolves loss to the Suns on Friday. However, he is back with the first-unit against the Thunder and should see something closer to the 20.3 minutes per game he has averaged as a starter.

Not starting Friday
Vanderbilt isn't starting Friday's game against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt started each of the past 15 games for the Timberwolves but was held scoreless over just eight minutes in Thursday's win over Phoenix. He'll come off the bench Friday with Jaden McDaniels taking on a starting role for Minnesota.

Flirts with double-double in win
Vanderbilt logged 12 points (5-5 FG, 2-3 FT), nine rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals across 22 minutes in Sunday's 114-112 win over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt bounced back with an excellent stat line after suffering a four-game stretch where he averaged only 3.3 points and five rebounds per game. The Kentucky product is much more involved in Minnesota's offense this season and has provided a steady stream of rebounds as a starter, but his fantasy value is mostly limited to deeper leagues.
Mar 4, 2021
Downward trend continues Wednesday
Vanderbilt tallied just six points (3-4 FG) and two steals in 18 minutes during Wednesday's 135-102 loss to Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt played just 18 minutes despite still being a part of the opening five, continuing to frustrate those the added him over the past week. The change in coach has certainly not worked in his favor and although we have seen him flash tremendous upside, his role is far too inconsistent to make him a must-roster player outside of deeper leagues.
Feb 25, 2021
Impressive two-way effort
Vanderbilt accumulated 16 points (5-5 FG, 6-7 FT), six rebounds, four steals and one assist in 34 minutes during Wednesday's 133-126 loss to the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt matched his season-high 16 points while setting a new season-high four steals during the overtime loss. He's proven to be a strong defensive player and quality rebounder when given the minutes. In 14 starts, he has averaged 7.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.8 blocks in 22.3 minutes.
Feb 17, 2021
Grabs career-high 13 boards
Vanderbilt recorded four points (2-6 FG), 13 rebounds, two steals and one assist in 29 minutes during Tuesday's 112-104 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt's 13 rebounds were a career high for the third-year forward out of Kentucky. He was extremely active on the offensive glass, with seven of his boards coming on that side of the ball. Vanderbilt is a defensive specialist for the Wolves, so we shouldn't be surprised if he continues to score in single-digits often. Vanderbilt has three performances this season with at least three steals, and he has three performances with at least two blocks.
Feb 14, 2021
Starting next to Towns
Vanderbilt will start Sunday's game against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
After playing just seven minutes off the bench against Charlotte on Friday, Vanderbilt will move into the starting lineup for the second time this month. In his last start -- Feb. 6 at OKC -- he saw only 18 minutes of action and finished with two points, four rebounds, two assists and one block.
Feb 9, 2021
Underwhelming in Monday's loss
Vanderbilt finished with five points (2-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes during Monday's 127-122 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt continues to be a source of frustration for fantasy GMs and the time may have come to go separate ways. Despite his upside, the Timberwolves are simply not giving him the playing time he needs to put up standard league value. He is outside the top-200 over the past two weeks and with Karl-Anthony Towns (COVID-19) about to return, his path to minutes is unlikely to widen anytime soon.
Feb 8, 2021
Back to bench
Vanderbilt isn't starting Monday's game against the Mavericks, freelance NBA reporter Dane Moore reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt drew a spot start Saturday against Oklahoma City, finishing with four boards, two points and two assists in 18 minutes of action. He'll head back to the bench Monday night with the Timberwolves electing to go with a smaller starting five.
Feb 6, 2021
Starting Saturday
Vanderbilt will start Saturday's game against the Thunder, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is getting the nod over Josh Okogie. The former has started six games this season, and in those contests, has averaged 9.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks in 24.2 minutes.
Feb 1, 2021
Grabs eight boards Sunday
Vanderbilt totaled seven points (3-6 FG, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot across 25 minutes in a win over Minnesota on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt continues to get solid run for the Timberwolves -- he has logged 20-plus minutes in six straight contests after hitting that mark only three times over his first 11 games. Though he offers only modest scoring (7.0 points per game), Vanderbilt is an intriguing fantasy pickup due to his rebounding (5.7 rebounds per game) and defensive stats (1.4 steals, 0.8 blocks). The 2018 second-round draft pick's numbers have shot up to 10.0 points, 7.2 boards, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks over his last five contests.
Jan 26, 2021
Piles up defensive stats in loss
Vanderbilt tallied 12 points (5-8 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks across 25 minutes in Monday's 130-108 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt drew his fifth straight start at power forward Monday and once again made a compelling case to maintain a spot on the top unit even once Juancho Hernangomez (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) is cleared to play. Though he has yet to clear 30 minutes in any of his starts, Vanderbilt has produced 12-team-worthy numbers over that stretch, averaging 10.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. The fact that he's been able to deliver value without needing much offensive usage bodes well for his ability to fit in with the Timberwolves once Karl-Anthony Towns (COVID-19) returns to the Minnesota frontcourt.
Jan 23, 2021
Scores season-best 16 points
Vanderbilt registered 16 points (8-13 FG), 11 rebounds, two steals and a block across 21 minutes in Saturday's win over the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has been a starter in each of Minnesota's last four games, but this was his best performance by a wide margin -- he posted a season-high mark in both points and rebounds en route to his second double-double of the season. Vanderbilt's minutes and upside should decrease once Juancho Hernangomez (COVID-19) is ready to return, but he has been enjoying a solid run as a starter thus far -- he is averaging 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game over his last four appearances.
Jan 18, 2021
Well-rounded line in start
Vanderbilt finished Monday's game against Atlanta with eight points (3-4 FG, 2-4 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.
ANALYSIS
Making his first career start with both Juancho Hernangomez and Karl-Anthony Towns out due to health and safety protocols, Vanderbilt was quiet as a scorer but produced a well-rounded line in a career-high 29 minutes. With Towns and Hernangomez expected to remain out for the remainder of the week -- and perhaps longer -- Vanderbilt should be in line for increased minutes over at least the next three games.
Jan 11, 2021
Works as backup power forward
Vanderbilt scored five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 FT) to go with eight rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench Sunday in the Timberwolves' 96-88 win over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt has recently been part of a three-man committee at center with Ed Davis and Naz Reid, but even with Karl-Anthony Towns (wrist) resting for the second half of the back-to-back, head coach Ryan Saunders chose to deploy Vanderbilt at power forward for most of the night. The 21-year-old came through with another solid outing, and with Jake Layman (coach's decision) sitting out the contest, Vanderbilt looks like he may have established himself as Juancho Hernangomez's top backup, at least temporarily. Assuming Towns returns to action in the Wolves' next game Wednesday versus the Grizzlies, Davis or Reid would seem more likely to lose out on a rotation spot than Vanderbilt.
Jan 6, 2021
Fills stat sheet off bench
Vanderbilt registered 11 points (4-5 FG, 3-7 FT), five rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks across 23 minutes in Tuesday's loss at Denver.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt is yet to start a game this season but thrived here, posting season-best marks in minutes, points, assists and blocks while tying his season-high figure for steals. The increased playing time might be the most encouraging factor here, as the improved production might lead to Vanderbilt playing even more going forward -- even if he remains on a bench role.
Dec 30, 2020
Getting time off bench
Vanderbilt scored nine points with six rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block in 16 minutes in Tuesday's loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt didn't play in Minnesota's first two games, but has played 15 and 16 minutes in each of the last two games when they became blowout losses. He'll likely return to the bench in more competitive games, but Minnesota is desperate for production at power forward. It's not crazy to think he could get a chance at more playing time early in the season.
Dec 24, 2020
Stuck on bench in season opener
Vanderbilt did not play due to a coach's decision in Wednesday's win over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
The 41st overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft will provide depth and may not get many minutes off the bench. He saw action in two games for Minnesota last season after coming over in a trade from Denver, while also spending time with the team's G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves. In seven games for Iowa, Vanderbilt averaged 28.7 minutes per game and held averages of 15.9 points, 13.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks.
Dec 18, 2020
Limited role in preseason
Vanderbilt did not score, missing his only shot attempt, and had five rebounds in 14 minutes in Wednesday's preseason win at Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt had played six and three minutes in the prior two preseason games, so he had a larger look Wednesday. He's likely No. 5 or No. 6 at power forward to begin the season and may not get off the bench many games.
Feb 24, 2020
Recalled by Timberwolves
Vanderbilt was recalled by the Timberwolves ahead of Monday's tilt with Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Vanderbilt could see the court, though he'll most likely simply act as rotational depth. In 11 games at the NBA level this season, he's averaging 1.1 points in 4.2 minutes.
Feb 9, 2020
Barely plays in team debut
Vanderbilt played the final one minute and six seconds of Saturday's 142-115 win over the Clippers, accruing no statistics during his time on the court.
ANALYSIS
After trading away nearly half of its roster in the days leading up to Thursday's deadline, the Timberwolves are still waiting for a few of their new additions to debut. Vanderbilt, Juancho Hernangomez, James Johnson, Jacob Evans and Malik Beasley were all available Saturday for their first action with Minnesota, but of that group, only Evans and Vanderbilt failed to see any action until garbage time. It's possible Vanderbilt's role grows as he gets more practice time under his belt, but playing time will only be harder to come by once Minnesota incorporates two more of their recent pickups -- D'Angelo Russell (quadriceps) and Omari Spellman -- into the mix.
Feb 5, 2020
Heading to Minnesota
Vanderbilt was traded to the Timberwolves on Tuesday in a four-team deal that includes the Nuggets, Hawks and Rockets, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The massive deal includes at least 12 players, with Robert Covington heading to Houston and Clint Capela to Atlanta being the most significant pieces. Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez, Evan Turner, Shabazz Napier, Jordan Bell, Nene, Gerald Green, Noah Vonleh and Keita Bates-Diop are also on the move. Vanderbilt has seen action in only eight games this season, though four of those appearances came in the last two weeks. He averaged 4.3 points in his appearances with the Timberwolves and is unlikely to be a factor with the Nuggets on track for the playoffs.
