McCray was added to the NCAA's transfer portal Tuesday, VerbalCommits.com reports.

McCray was not used during Wake Forest's 2022-23 season. Thus, the sophomore wants to transfer so that he can participate in games.

McCray (not injury related) ended Tuesday's 76-54 win over Florida State with two points (1-1 FG) and one rebound in one minute.

While McCray was able to make his return from a seven-game absence, it was essentially in garbage time, as the points came in the final two minutes of the contest with Wake Forest down by 23 points. Still, it's a positive sign to see him out on the court, and the freshman will now look to expand his role off the bench.

McCray did not take the court in Saturday's 92-84 loss to Miami.

McCray has had an extended stay in the team's health and safety protocols, as he hasn't seen the court since way back on Nov. 27. He was expected to be cleared for the showdown against the Hurricanes, though considering the freshman was a fringe rotation piece prior to entering protocol, it's possible his absence was simply a coach's decision to tighten up the rotation. ACC play continues for the Demon Deacons on Tuesday against Florida State, representing McCray's next chance to take the court.

McCray will not be ready for Wednesday's game against Lousiville, but should be good to go for the contest against the Hurricanes provided he doesn't have any setbacks. McCray has missed the team's last five games due to health and safety protocols.

Head coach Steve Forbes revealed after Tuesday's win over VMI that McCray is currently in the team's health and safety protocol, Ethan Joyce of the Winston-Salem Journal reports.

McCray notably did not dress over the weekend and coach Forbes finally revealed during Tuesday's postgame presser as to why the 6-4 freshman has been absent. It's unclear when he could be cleared and ready to return. His next chance to suit up will be Friday against Charlotte.

McCray isn't in uniform for Saturday's game against USC Upstate, Conor O'Neill of Deacons Illustrated reports.

It's unclear why McCray isn't dressed for Saturday's action. The 6-4 freshman has been a non-factor this season, averaging just 6.2 minutes per game.
