Two scores against Knights
Morton was 21-for-35 passing for 256 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 24-23 victory against UCF.

Leads team to win in ugly outing
Morton was 19-for-25 passing for 176 yards and one interception during Saturday's 16-13 win versus Kansas. He also had seven rushes for -11 yards.
ANALYSIS
Morton didn't have much success through the air; however, he did play well at the end of the fourth quarter which helped Texas Tech pull out the ugly win on the road. Since Tyler Shough went down with a season-ending injury, it hasn't been pretty for the Red Raiders' passing game. Morton and Texas Tech will play UCF next week.
Nov 2, 2023
Tosses two touchdowns in win
Morton (shoulder) put together his most efficient game of the season, completing 28-of-36 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns in Thursday's win over TCU.
ANALYSIS
Morton returned from a shoulder injury after missing action in Week 8 and looked to be fully healthy once again. The sophomore threw for a season-high 282 yards and also completed more than 20 passes for the first time this year. He showed great precision with his passing and completed a pair of long touchdown passes. Morton's excellent play was able to help the Red Raiders snap a two-game skid and they'll take the momentum into Lawrence to face the Jayhawks Nov. 11.

Warming with starting unit
Morton (undisclosed) is dressed and warming up with the starting center ahead of Thursday's game versus TCU, Jarrett Ramirez of Rivals.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton was considered likely to play in Thursday's contest despite dealing with some injury issue recently, and all signs point to him giving it a go as expected. Moreton is coming off his first empty game in the passing touchdowns column against Kansas State, but he did manage to rush for a touchdown, marking his second straight with a rushing score. BYU's defense figures to be a slightly better matchup for the sophomore.
Oct 30, 2023
Probable vs TCU
Head coach Joey McGuire indicated Monday that Morton (undisclosed) was able to log a full practice Sunday and is probable to play in Thursday's matchup against TCU, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing the previous game against BYU, Morton is now in line to see the field Thursday following the team's Week 9 bye. The sophomore quarterback has thrown for five touchdowns and one interception across his last three outings. Should he be unavailable, backups Jake Strong or Brady Boyd would get opportunities under center.
Oct 25, 2023
Expected to start Thursday
Morton (undisclosed) is throwing in practice and is expected to start Thursday versus TCU, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton threw during Wednesday's practice for the first time since his injury and is now expected to start versus TCU. He missed Week 8 versus BYU and likely would have missed Week 9 as well if Texas Tech was not on bye. In five games this season he has completed 57 percent of his passes for 696 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions.
Oct 21, 2023
Not spotted in early warmups
Morton (undisclosed) isn't throwing in warmups ahead of Saturday's game, Cole Banker of KAMC News reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton could not return last week after exiting early against Kansas State and subsequently sported a game-time decision coming into game day. Unfortunately, it's trending toward Morton sitting out the contest, which would leave Jake Strong and Brady Boyd as the options to start under center for the Red Raiders.
Oct 16, 2023
Game-time decision Saturday
Morton (undisclosed) is a game-time decision for Texas Tech's game Saturday at BYU, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Texas Tech will decide Morton's availability just before the team plays its next game. Should he sit out Saturday, Jake Strong can fill in against BYU. But if the opposite, Morton will have not sat out any games and can continue his promising form as TTU's No. 1 quarterback.
Oct 14, 2023
Unlikely to return Saturday
Morton exited Saturday's game and was replaced to begin the second half, Don Williams of The Lubbock-Avalance Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton was already dealing with an AC joint injury that he suffered a few weeks ago and was taking hits during the first half, which seems to have forced the early exit. Jake Strong is expected to remain under center for the remainder of the game.
Oct 8, 2023
Four total TDs at Baylor
Morton completed 19 of 26 passes for 180 yards, three touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 39-14 win versus Baylor. He also had two rushes for negative one yard with one touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Morton had a career performance with the win at Baylor. While the team leaned heavily on the run-game with 31 rushing attempts for Tahj Brooks, Morton played nice complimentary football. He took advantage of his 19 completions and had three passing scores. It's not likely he does that every week, but it's a good start for the Texas Tech QB. Morton and the Red Raiders will play a much better Kansas State team next week.
Oct 1, 2023
Two scores against Houston
Morton completed 14 of 22 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's 49-28 win versus Houston.
ANALYSIS
Morton threw for two touchdowns and did just enough through the air to handle the Cougars at home. Texas Tech leaned heavily on their run-game as they had 37 rushing attempts, something they don't do often. Texas Tech will play at Baylor next week.
Sep 25, 2023
Listed as starter as expected
Morton is listed as the starting quarterback for Saturday's game against Houston, RedRaiderSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This was to be expected after Tyler Shough suffered a season-ending injury last week against West Virginia. Jake Strong is listed as the backup quarterback. Morton threw for 158 yards and a score after coming in for Shough last week and will look to build on that starting with Houston on Saturday.
Sep 23, 2023
Will takeover starting role
Morton is expected to become Texas Tech's starting quarterback after Tyler Shough suffered a season-ending broken fibula Saturday against WVU, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The loss of Shough is a massive blow for the Red Raiders, but now Morton will have a chance to show what he can do with consistent playing time under center. The signal-caller completed 13 of 37 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing eight times for minus-12 yards, in relief Saturday when Shough went down against the Mountaineers in a 20-13 loss.
Sep 17, 2023
Playing time in rout of opponent
Morton was 8-for-13 passing for 72 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 41-3 victory against Tarleton State.
ANALYSIS
Morton played for the majority of the second half as the team decided to give starter Tyler Shough some rest before the conference portion of the schedule. Texas Tech will play at West Virginia next week.
Dec 27, 2022
Back at practice
Morton (ankle) is back at practice, Carlos Silva Jr. of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton miss the final three games of the regular season due to an ankle injury, but it appears he'll be available for Wednesday's bowl game against Mississippi. Before the injury, Morton started three straight games and completed 55.3 percent of his passes for 856 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions during that stretch.
Nov 11, 2022
Out Saturday
Morton (ankle) will be inactive for Saturday's game against Kansas, David Collier of KLBK-TV reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton will remain out for the Raider Raiders after exiting Saturday's game with an ankle injury. The redshirt freshman quarterback has appeared in six games this season, logging 1,117 passing yards (96-of-168), seven touchdowns and six interceptions. Tyler Shough is expected to suit up in his place against the Jayhawks.
Nov 5, 2022
Won't return Saturday
Morton is out for the remainder of Saturday's game versus TCU and is in a walking boot on his left foot, RedRaiderSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton left Saturday's game in the first half with an apparent foot injury. Tyler Shough has replaced him at quarterback and will likely play the remainder of the game.
Nov 5, 2022
Exits game with injury
Morton exited Saturday's game versus TCU with an apparent lower body injury, Sam Khan Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton limped off the field and went into the locker room in the first half of Saturday's game. Tyler Shough has replaced him at quarterback, who won the starting job in training camp before suffering an injury.
Nov 5, 2022
Expected to start Saturday
Morton is working with the starters in warmups ahead of Saturday's versus TCU, Carlos Silva Jr. of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton has struggled this season, completing 89-of-158 passes for 1,038 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions. While he has added two touchdowns on the ground, he will need a good game Saturday to keep his starting job over Donovan Smith.
Oct 30, 2022
Struggled in loss to Baylor
Morton completed 11 of 34 passes for 152 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions to go along with six yards and a rushing score on six carries during Saturday's 45-17 loss versus Baylor.
ANALYSIS
Morton had a rough outing in a game that also saw Donovan Smith and Tyler Shough throw interceptions too. While the Texas Tech quarterback is a highly sought-out fantasy asset, we're at a point in the season where it's not entirely clear who that guy will be on a week-to-week basis. Stay tuned to see if Shough makes his return as a starter against an undefeated TCU team next week.
Oct 29, 2022
Set to start Saturday
Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire Morton will start at quarterback in Saturday's game versus Baylor, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
It appears that the answer to who will start at quarterback for Texas Tech versus Baylor has been answered. Morton has completed 78-of-124 passes for 886 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions to go along with 29 rushes for 68 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Tyler Shough is in line to be the team's backup quarterback.
Oct 23, 2022
Two straight 300-yard passing games
Morton was 28-for-45 passing for 325 yards while rushing for 17 yards on eight carries during Saturday's 48-10 victory over West Virginia.
ANALYSIS
Despite dealing with both a sickness and ankle injury, Morton was fantastic in just his second start. He's now gone for over 300 passing yards in back-to-back games and is showing encouraging signs of being the future signal-caller for the Red Raiders. With dual-threat ability, he's a priority add for fantasy squads if he can hold on to the job over Donovan Smith and Tyler Shough. Texas Tech will host Baylor next week.
Oct 22, 2022
In line to start
Morton is expected to start Saturday against West Virginia, Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton threw 62 passes in his last game and is warming with the starting offense while Donovan Smith and Tyler Shough work with the reserves. Barring a change in the rotation, Morton should get the nod Saturday.
Oct 22, 2022
Candidate to start
Morton has seen the bulk of the first-team reps in practice this week and could start Saturday against West Virginia, Oscar LeRoy of the Midland Reporter-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Texas Tech has had an injury embattled quarterback room but Donovan Smith and Tyler Shough could be available Saturday. Still, Morton could be the one getting the start after attempting 62 passes in Texas Tech's Week 6 loss to Oklahoma State.
Oct 8, 2022
High volume in surprising start
Morton completed 39 of 62 passes for 379 yards and two touchdowns with an interception to go along with 46 yards and a score on 16 carries in Saturday's 41-31 loss at Oklahoma State.
ANALYSIS
Morton received the surprising start over Donovan Smith and was awarded with high volume. It just goes to show that whoever is the Texas Tech quarterback is worth rostering for fantasy purposes. Morton was able to rack up three touchdowns and all kinds of yards against the Cowboys' defense. Texas Tech is on a bye next week before hosting West Virginia. Keep an eye on who will be the starter in that Week 8 game against the Mountaineers.
Oct 8, 2022
Will start Saturday
Morton will start Saturday's game against Oklahoma State, RedRaiderSports.comreports.
ANALYSIS
Morton has a few reps under center this season but will get the full workload Saturday with Donovan Smith (undisclosed) set to miss the contest. Morton has just 20 total passes during his college career and will step into a tough matchup without top wide receiver Myles Price.
Sep 4, 2022
Records TD late in game
Morton completed seven of ten passes for 97 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Saturday's 63-10 win over Murray State.
ANALYSIS
Morton received some playing time late in the game once the score was out of hand. Donovan Smith was effective while tossing four touchdowns after replacing the injured starter Tyler Shough. Unless there's another injury, Morton likely won't see much of the field against a tough opponent in Houston.
Aug 17, 2022
Trying to earn QB1 title
Morton continues to battle Tyler Shough and Donovan Smith to be the Red Raiders' starting quarterback, WreckEmRed.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Morton is tied up in a quarterback battle with Tyler Shough and Donovan Smith and while coach McGuire knows who he plans to award the title to, he is waiting until the team's last scrimmage Saturday. Morton lacks starting experience at the college level which certainly puts him at a disadvantage, but he still has time to prove himself before the decision is finalized.
