Earle has decided to enter the transfer portal, per his announcement Thursday.

After the first two weeks of North Texas' 2023 season, Earle attempted only one pass across the remainder of the year. Wanting to play more football, he will consider all his available options via the transfer portal.

Earle completed 10 of 20 passes for 96 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions during Saturday's 46-39 defeat against Florida International. He also had seven rushes for 67 yards.

Earle completed just 50 percent of his passes Saturday for under 100 yards and two interceptions. He ran the ball well however, as he led the team with 67 yards on seven carries. Backup Chandler Rogers took over in the second half and outplayed Earle, opening up the quarterback competition further. On Tuesday, head coach Eric Morris said nothing is set in stone at starting quarterback for Saturday's matchup at Louisiana Tech, so Earle's job could be in jeopardy.

Earle was 12-for-19 passing for 174 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions during Saturday's 58-21 defeat against California. He also had seven rushes for negative eight yards.

Earle had a decent performance Saturday versus the only Power 5 team on the Mean Green's schedule. He tossed three touchdowns in the first half, but was also intercepted twice. Chandler Rogers took over offense in the second half -- a move that was expected prior to the game -- and only threw for 10 yards and one interception. If the starter is chosen based on Saturday's performance, Earle is in good shape.

Earle will start in the Mean Green's opener against California on Sept. 2, Brett Vito of the Denton Record-Chronicle reports.

Earle will open the season as the starter after appearing in a limited capacity with North Texas last season. The junior quarterback totaled 45 passing yards (5-of-8) and one touchdown across four games last season. Despite not starting, Chandler Rogers will also play in the contest per head coach Eric Morris.
