Trent Howland Injury News & Updates

Howland will enter the NCAA transfer portal, Michael Niziolek of The Herald Times reports.

Howland played in 10 games this season, totaling 75 carries for 352 yards and two touchdowns. The 6-foot-3 running back will look for a fresh start at a new program after three seasons with the Hoosiers. In his tenure with Indiana, the redshirt sophomore compiled 83 carries for 383 yards and two touchdowns.

Howland posted 19 rushes for 77 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 24-21 defeat versus Michigan State.

Howland paced the Hoosiers' backfield for the second week in a row, including his second rushing touchdown in as many weeks. The redshirt sophomore also finished with a team high in carries ahead of graduate senior Josh Henderson. Howland appears to have stepped into a more prominent role, which could continue to net him more opportunities this coming Saturday against Purdue.

Howland totaled 13 carries for 72 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 48-45 overtime loss versus Illinois.

Howland paced the Hoosiers' rushing attack for the first time this season. The 6-foot-3 redshirt junior logged season highs in both rushing attempts and yards while also notching his first touchdown of the season. Howland started the season in an extremely limited role, but he's seen increasing usage over the last four games. Indiana's recent change at offensive coordinator has clearly improved this unit's efficiency this season, and it may lead to a bigger role for Howland down the stretch of the season as a result. It will be worth monitoring his workload compared to Josh Henderson and Jaylin Lucas during Indiana's penultimate game versus Michigan State next week.

Howland (undisclosed) had two carries for 12 yards against Idaho.

The big redshirt freshman was not available for the season opener but returned to action against the Vandals. He could be a small part of the backfield rotation Saturday against Western Kentucky.

Howland isn't dressed ahead of Friday's game against Illinois, Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports.

Howland appeared in just two games for the Hoosiers last year and rushed six times for 20 yards. It's not yet clear what injury he could be dealing with, but it appears as though he'll be held off the field for Friday's season opener.

Howland carried the ball five times for 17 yards in the game against Ohio State on Saturday.

Indiana got overpowered pretty much from the get-go which allowed Howland to come in once the game was well out of hand. The fact Howland led the team in rushing with only 17 yards says more about Indiana's rushing attack than it does about the backup running backs abilities.
