Even though Trautman should again see plenty of playing time entering his third season in 2022, the 24-year-old will need to see heightened usage as a receiver in order to become a dependable fantasy option.

While he has consistently logged a lion's share of the playing time when healthy this year, his only decent fantasy performance came in Week 11 against the Eagles' league worst defense against tight ends. Otherwise, Trautman hasn't been worthy of much attention in the fantasy realm, and it should remain that way in Week 18 against Atlanta.

Because New Orleans is facing a quick turnaround for Week 12 with a Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Bills, Trautman's listing on the injury report may just be an indication that the Saints plan to give him some extra maintenance. The Saints' Tuesday and Wednesday injury reports will provide a better idea whether or not Trautman is trending toward playing Thursday.

Trautman's next opportunity to build on his recent momentum comes quickly, as the Saints host the Bills for an interconference showdown on Thanksgiving Night in Week 12.

While the final results weren't great, the heightened usage continues for Trautman with Trevor Siemian under center. After totaling 13 targets in seven games with Jameis Winston, Trautman has now seen 19 in three games with Siemian. While this increased attention has yet to translate to significant fantasy production, few other tight ends around the league have seen more opportunities over the past few weeks. With the Eagles leaky defense on deck in Week 11, Trautman could be worth a roll of the dice for TE-needy fantasy managers.

Trautman didn't do much before the fourth quarter, but on one drive he eventually had four catches within six plays to help the Saints get their first touchdown, after which Trautman was unsuccessfully targeted on a two-point conversion attempt. That brings Trautman up to 13 targets in under two games with Trevor Siemian after averaging 2.2 in just over six games with Jameis Winston (knee), who will miss the rest of the year with a torn ACL. While Winston technically had higher upside than Siemian as a passer, Trautman's outlook would obviously benefit much more from someone who will actually throw him the ball.

Trautman's disappointing season continues despite him matching the season-high six targets he saw Week 1. With Jameis Winston (knee) likely to miss time, Trautman becomes even less reliable as a fantasy option despite having a friendly Week 9 matchup against Atlanta.

Trautman caught all three of his targets for 36 yards and lost a fumble in Monday's 13-10 win over the Seahawks.

Trautman's fumble set up Seattle's game-tying field goal in the third quarter, but New Orleans scored the only points of the fourth on a field goal with 1:59 remaining to secure the victory and bail out the tight end. The six targets Trautman saw in the season opener seem like a outlier now that he's seen only two more in three games since. Meanwhile, Juwan Johnson has seen three targets in three of four opportunities. Barring an uptick in usage -- which may be especially unlikely with Michael Thomas (ankle) and Tre'Quan Smith (hamstring) expected to return at some point this year -- Trautman is completely falling off the fantasy radar.

Trautman logged over 80 percent of the offensive snaps for the second time in three games, but he remained an afterthought in the passing game. Barring increased usage as a pass catcher, Trautman is nothing more than a touchdown-dependent fantasy option.

Trautman was not targeted with a pass during Sunday's 26-7 loss to Carolina.

On a day when Jameis Winston had trouble moving the ball, Trautman was not used as a safety valve over the middle of the field. Instead, Alvin Kamara and Marquez Callaway saw almost half of Winston's 21 pass attempts while Juwan Johnson was the only Saints tight end to have a pass sent his way. While Trautman at least paced his position group with 52 percent of the offensive snaps, Johnson was close behind at 41 percent and he ultimately saw a target every six snaps. Unless Trautman eventually becomes a larger part of the passing game, he will be hard to trust in any fantasy format.

Trautman led the Saints in targets on a day Jameis Winston only needed to throw 20 passes, but he dropped two of them while fellow tight end Juwan Johnson caught all three of his targets for 21 yards and two touchdowns. The second-year tight end will only warrant fantasy consideration in deeper leagues until he becomes more impactful as a receiver down the field.

The lack of a high-profile offseason addition after Jared Cook's departure could still work in favor of Trautman, a 2020 third-round pick who caught 15 of 16 targets as a rookie. Converted wideout Juwan Johnson may be Trautman's main competition for playing time in clear passing situations.

Trautman will undergo an MRI on Tuesday after suffering an ankle injury during Monday night's preseason game against the Jaguars, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

If Trautman is New Orleans' primary pass-catching tight end next season, he could be a productive fantasy player, though who's under center will certainly contribute to his production.

With no other tight ends currently on the active roster, Trautman could handle a full workload Sunday.
