Reverts to PUP
Johnson (undisclosed) reverted to the Giants' reserve/PUP list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson was let go by the team on Tuesday due to a failed physical but will now stay in New York after clearing waivers. The 2023 seventh-round pick will now be forced to miss at least the first four games of the regular season before he will be eligible to return.

Waived with failed physical
The Giants waived Johnson (undisclosed) with a failed physical designation Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson was a seventh-round selection by Green Bay in the 2023 NFL Draft. He joined the Giants last season and got into nine contests, tallying five tackles and one defensed pass while playing primarily on special teams. It's not clear what caused him to fail his physical ahead of training camp.

Snags first-career INT in win
Johnson had one solo tackle and an interception in Sunday's 20-3 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Johnson got the start at strong safety with Rudy Ford (calf) ruled out Sunday. Johnson took advantage of the opportunity, playing in all defensive snaps and getting his first-career interception off of Brett Rypien on a pass intended for Cooper Kupp early in the fourth quarter. The rookie safety only had one tackle for the game, but that's more to do with Rypien completing just 13 of 28 passes on the game, so the former's opportunities were limited. If Ford is unable to practice over the next few days, Johnson would figure to get the start once again in Week 10 against the Steelers.

Starting Sunday
Johnson appears to be starting Sunday's game against the Rams based on pregame warmups, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie is playing in place of Rudy Ford, who is out with a calf injury. Johnson has played on 26 snaps this season, eight on defense and 18 on special teams, and has yet to record a stat.

Gets into Saturday's game
Johnson (knee) saw action in Saturday's 19-15 preseason victory over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Johnson did not make a mark in the box score, but he did take the field just a couple days after injuring his knee. The Packers are unsettled at the safety position, and the rookie seventh-rounder stands a chance to make the cut.

Sitting out practice
Johnson (knee) will not practice Thursday, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson's absence is to rest the injury, which is not expected to be a long-term issue. The rookie safety is expected to fill a depth role in the secondary this season. However, he'll need to focus on his recovery first, so he can be ready to compete Week 1 against the Bears.

Passes physical, off PUP list
Johnson (undisclosed) passed his physical and has been removed from the active/PUP list, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson was sidelined to start camp due to an undisclosed injury, but he's back to full strength and should return to practice soon. The rookie undrafted free agent out of Virginia will presumably compete for a depth role at cornerback, so he should get plenty of action during the preseason.

Lands on active/PUP list
The Saints have placed Johnson on their active/PUP list ahead of training camp due to an undisclosed injury.
ANALYSIS
Johnson signed with New Orleans as an undrafted free agent during the offseason. He played with both Virginia and Louisville during his collegiate career and accumulated 138 tackles (94 solo), seven interceptions, and three forced fumbles across 55 games during in the process. He is competing for a depth role at cornerback, so a quick return from the active/PUP list would be advantageous.

Green Bay adds in seventh round
The Packers selected Johnson in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 242nd overall.
ANALYSIS
Johnson (6-feet, 205 pounds) initially played cornerback at Iowa State before moving to safety for the 2022 season. The Packers are listing him as a safety as well, which makes sense because Johnson lacks reach (31 and 1/4-inch arms) and speed (4.52-second 40) by cornerback standards. Johnson is plenty athletic by safety standards, though, and his experience as a corner could be a real asset for the Green Bay safety rotation. The Packers have a history of sometimes making their safety and slot corner personnel interchangeable (see: Darnell Savage, Micah Hyde).

Set to join New Orleans
Johnson is expected to sign with the Saints as an undrafted free agent, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson is a Virginia cornerback who offers plus size (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) and reach (32 and 5/8-inch arms) but is lacking in athleticism otherwise. He logged a 4.63-second 40 at the combine to go with bad jumps (30.5-inch vertical, 116-inch broad jump), raising the concern that he might need to move to safety in the NFL.
