Nearing full health
Rumph (foot) was spotted doing individual drills during Wednesday's mandatory minicamp session, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that Rumph is still "working through" an injury, but it seems his recovery process is moving in the right direction after breaking his foot early into the Chargers' 2023 campaign. Once Rumph is back at full health, he's expected to compete for a depth role in Los Angeles' outside linebacker corps.

Not practicing yet
Rumph (foot) worked with trainers during OTAs on Monday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rumph suffered a broken foot during warmups of the Chargers' Week 10 matchup, which put an early end to his season. His inability to practice with the team suggests the Duke product is still working on his recovery, but is at least making progress in doing so.

Undergoes surgery
Rumph announced Thursday via his personal Instagram account that he underwent successful surgery to address a broken foot suffered ahead of Sunday's 41-38 loss to the Lions, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rumph suffered the injury during pregame warmups and was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. The Duke product has also already been ruled out for the remainder of the season and will now focus on his recovery to make a return to full health for the 2024 campaign.

Sent to IR with broken foot
The Chargers placed Rumph (foot) on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Rumph suffered a broken foot ahead of last week's loss to the Lions and didn't play in Week 10. He's now out a minimum of four games but likely longer. Rumph was a sub-package, part-time player on defense for the Chargers and also played significantly on special teams.
Nov 13, 2023
Set for IR
Rumph (foot) is expected to be placed on injured reserve in the near future, Bridget Condon of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Rumph suffered a fractured foot in Sunday's loss to the Lions and his season will soon officially come to a close. Head coach Brandon Staley said Monday that the linebacker will require surgery and that he will go on injured reserve, but that move has yet to be made.
Nov 13, 2023
Done for season
Rumph sustained a fractured foot during pregame warmups Sunday and is expected to miss the remainder of the season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not a totally trivial loss for the Chargers, who were relying on Rumph to play around 15 defensive snaps per game when he was active. For the remainder of the season, they'll be relatively thin on the edge behind Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa and Tuli Tuipulotu.
Nov 12, 2023
Seen in walking boot
Rumph (foot) was seen in a walking boot following Sunday's loss to the Lions, Bridget Condon of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Rumph hurt his foot during pregame warmups Sunday and was unable to play despite being active. While the exact severity of his injury isn't yet clear, it's concerning that he was in a walking boot after the game. His status for next Sunday's game against Green Bay will likely come into focus based on his status in practice this week.

Won't play Week 10
Rumph (foot) is active but will not play Sunday against the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Rumph was set to play, but injured his foot during pregame warm-ups and will not suit up. He has provided depth at outside linebacker while contributing to special teams this season and has five tackles (four solo) in six games this season. Tuli Tuipulotu is set to get an uptick in defensive snaps in relief of starters Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack.

Cleared to play
Rumph (hamstring) is active Sunday against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Rumph logged full practices Thursday and Friday, setting the table for his return to the field in Week 3. The Duke product's return should be a boost to the Chargers' linebacker depth and on special teams.
Sep 23, 2023
Gets questionable tag
Rumph (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
After logging a limited practice Wednesday, Rumph took on a full workload in consecutive days to close out the week. Thus, he is likely more on the optimistic side of questionable. Still, final confirmation of his status will not come until Sunday closer to kickoff.
Sep 21, 2023
Back in full Thursday
Rumph (hamstring) was a full participant during Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Rumph did not play Week 1 or Week 2 while dealing with a hamstring injury, and he returned to practice in a limited fashion for the first time Wednesday. The third-year outside linebacker should now be good to go ahead of Sunday's matchup versus the Vikings. Rumph figures to prominently contribute on special teams while also providing additional depth behind outside linebackers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa (hamstring).
Sep 20, 2023
Logs limited practice Wednesday
Rumph (hamstring) was a limited participant at the Chargers' practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Rumph has been unable to play in either of the team's games to this point in 2023, but his ability to practice Wednesday is a step in the right direction. The 24-year-old will to progress past his hamstring injury with a full practice before the end of the week.
Sep 16, 2023
Ruled out for Week 2
Rumph (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 2 versus Tennessee, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Rumph will miss a second straight contest Sunday to open the 2023 season after suffering a hamstring injury. The linebacker will look to return to the field in Week 3 against Minnesota.
Sep 15, 2023
Listed as doubtful
Rumph (hamstring) is doubtful to play in Sunday's game against Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old linebacker missed Los Angeles' Week 1 affair against Miami with the same hamstring injury. Rumph did participate in a limited fashion during practice this week, but he's listed as doubtful going into Sunday.
Sep 10, 2023
Sitting out Sunday
Rumph (hamstring) is inactive Sunday against Miami.
ANALYSIS
Rumph was considered doubtful for the contest, so his absence was expected. Tuli Tuipulotu will likely be the next man up to receive extra snaps in his absence.
Sep 8, 2023
Gets doubtful designation
Rumph (hamstring) is listed as doubtful Friday for Sunday's game versus the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
After missing practice Thursday and Friday, Rumph will officially carry a doubtful designation into the Chargers' matchup with Miami in Week 1. Rookie second-rounder Tuli Tuipulotu would be in line for increased reps at outside linebacker in the event Rumph couldn't play.
Nov 18, 2022
Set to return Week 11
Rumph (knee) does not carry a game status for Sunday's matchup against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Rumph has missed the Chargers' past two games after being forced out during the team's Week 7 loss to the Seahawks. After being limited in back-to-back practices to open Week 11, the linebacker fully participated in Friday's sessions. Expect Rumph to reprise a prominent role opposite Khalil Mack on Sunday.
Nov 13, 2022
Inactive against 49ers
Rumph (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Rumph was considered doubtful ahead of Sunday's matchup, so it's not very surprising that he'll be unable to suit up. Derrek Tuszka will likely see additional playing time Sunday.
Nov 11, 2022
Deemed doubtful
Rumpth (knee) is listed as doutbful for Sunday's matchup with the 49ers, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Barring a quick turnaround, Rumpth is trending towards a second straight absence due to a knee injury. Assuming he is unable to go, Derrek Tuszka could see a more prominent role opposite Khalil Mack at outside linebacker.
Nov 4, 2022
Out for Week 9
Rumph (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Rumph suffered a hip injury during the Chargers' Week 7 loss to the Seahawks and was unable to practice following the team's Week 8 bye, so it's not surprising to see him ruled out for Week 9. The second-year linebacker was filling in for Joey Bosa, who's still out for at least a month with a groin injury, so Los Angeles is going to be extremely thin at outside linebacker against Atlanta.
Oct 23, 2022
Exits Sunday's game
Rumph didn't return to Sunday's loss to the Seahawks due to a hip/knee injury, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rumph was shaken up on special teams during the second half of Sunday's matchup and was unable to return. The Chargers have a Week 8 bye, so he'll have an additional week to recover before the team faces Atlanta on Nov. 6.
Sep 28, 2022
Promoted into starting role
Chargers coach Brandon Staley indicated that Rumph will step in at defensive end in place of starter Joey Bosa (groin), who was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Bosa set to miss at least four games while on IR, Rumph and veteran Kyle Van Noy are expected to help fill in along the edge of the Bolts' defensive front, according to Thiry. The second-year linebacker played primarily on special teams -- 330 of his 496 total snaps -- during his rookie campaign, but Staley said Wednesday that "he's ready to play on the edge." Rumph recorded two tackles and one pass defended while playing a career-high 42 defensive snaps Sunday against Jacksonville, and he'll look to tally his first sack of the season next week against Houston.

Clears COVID protocols
Rumph was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Rumph missed the Chargers' Week 16 loss to the Texans while in protocols. Now healthy, the rookie will look to resume his rotational role in the Chargers' linebacker unit.
Dec 20, 2021
Goes on COVID-19 list
The Chargers placed Rumph on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.
ANALYSIS
According to Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times, head coach Brandon Staley labeled Rumph as day-to-day, which would seem to suggest that the 23-year-old linebacker is on the list as a vaccinated player that tested positive for the virus. Per the NFL's new COVID-19 protocols, Rumph will be eligible to rejoin the team as soon as he's deemed to be asymptomatic. Rumph thus has an outside shot of gaining clearance prior to Sunday's game against the Texans. He's appeared in 14 games to date this season, recording 19 tackles and one sack.
