The Steelers signed Powell to the practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Powell briefly spent time with the Texans over the summer but has been out of work since being cut by Houston prior to Week 1. A fifth-round pick by the Chiefs in 2021, Powell has appeared in just three career regular-season games but didn't see a single target in the pass game.

Cut by Houston
The Texans waived Powell on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
After being drafted by Kansas City in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Powell has had a hard time finding opportunities in the league, as he's played in only three regular-season games (all in 2022). The Clemson product won't make Houston's initial 53-man roster despite shining in his lone preseason contest with the club, catching six of seven targets for 63 yards Saturday versus Detroit.

Signs with Houston
The Texans signed Powell on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell was one of two wideouts signed by Houston, which also inked Juwann Winfree. Both receivers join the team, after the Texans traded John Metchie to the Eagles. Powell, 27, has spent time with the Chiefs, Seahawks and played for the DC Defenders of the United Football League. He's appeared in three NFL games and did not accumulate any stats.

Let go by Seattle
The Seahawks waived Powell on Friday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell spent the second half of the 2024 regular season on the Seahawks' practice squad, and he was signed to a reserve/future contract in early January despite never being elevated to the active roster. Assuming he clears waivers, the 2021 fifth-round pick will look to catch on with another team looking to add depth to its wide receiver corps.

Staying in Seattle
The Seahawks signed Powell to a reserve/future contract Monday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell ended the season on the Seahawks' practice squad after being cut by the Chiefs on Oct. 22. He last saw NFL regular-season action in 2022 with Kansas City, during which he played 31 snaps (three on offense, 28 on special teams) across three games but didn't show up on the box score otherwise.

Signed to KC practice squad
The Chiefs signed Powell to the practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
It's the third time this season that Powell has been signed to the Chiefs' practice squad. The 2021 fifth-round pick hasn't been elevated for a single game this season, but he would be a candidate to do so if the Chiefs need to add depth to the wide receiver corps.
Nov 19, 2024
Dropped from practice squad
Powell was released from the Chiefs' practice squad on Tuesday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell failed to make Kansas City's final 53-man roster during training camp, but he ultimately returned to the practice unit on Oct. 22. His exit after nearly one month with the team was a corresponding move in order to add fellow pass catcher Tyquan Thornton. The 2021 fifth-round pick will now be on the lookout for a new opportunity.
Oct 22, 2024
Back in Kansas City
The Chiefs signed Powell to the practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The 2021 fifth-round pick spent all of last season on the Chiefs' practice squad, but he was waived in late August after failing to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp. Powell will be available for an elevation to the active roster should Kansas City need him in a special teams role on game day.
Aug 27, 2024
Finished in Kansas City
The Chiefs waived Powell on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Since being drafted by Kansas City in the fifth round back in 2021, Powell has appeared in just three regular season games and played just three total offensive snaps. He could find his way back onto the practice squad at some point.
Feb 23, 2024
Back with Super Bowl champs
The Chiefs signed Powell on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell, who finished this past season on Kansas City's practice squad, will thus have an opportunity to compete for a depth slot in the team's 2024 wideout corps. The 2021 fifth-rounder last saw regular-season action in 2022, when he suited up for three games with the Chiefs en route to recording three snaps on offense and 28 snaps as a special-teamer.
Aug 30, 2023
Joins KC's practice squad
The Chiefs added Powell (hamstring) to their practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Powell was nursing a hamstring injury prior to getting waived during final roster cuts, so his subsequent addition to Kansas City's practice squad indicates he has put the issue behind him. The 25-year-old has spent his first two seasons bouncing back and forth between the Chiefs' practice and active rosters, and is looking at a similar scenerio in 2023.
Aug 29, 2023
Dropped by the Chiefs
Powell was waived without any injury designation by Kansas City on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Powell tweaked his hamstring during the Chiefs' 33-32 preseason victory versus the Browns on Aug. 26, but he was not tagged with any injury designation when Kansas City cut him loose Tuesday. The 2021 fifth-round pick spent most of last season on the Chiefs' practice squad, and he received a reserve/future contract in January after being elevated for three games in 2022. Should he clear waivers, Powell could be a prime candidate to rejoin the team's practice squad ahead of the 2023 campaign.

Tweaks hamstring in win
Powell, who caught two of three targets for 20 yards in Saturday's 33-32 preseason win over the Browns, is dealing with a hamstring injury, Pete Sweeney of SB Nation reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Andy Reid noted after the game that Powell was dealing with "a little bit" of a hamstring issue and is confident that the injury is not serious. Powell played in all three preseason games and accrued six catches for 63 yards and a touchdown.

Gets new deal with Chiefs
Kansas City signed Powell (undisclosed) to a reserve/future contract Wednesdays, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell landed on the practice squad injured list early January and subsequently sat out the Chiefs' postseason run. The nature of Powell's injury wasn't ultimately disclosed, but this offseason he will get a chance to compete for a role on the 53-man roster for 2023.
Jan 2, 2023
Placed on injured list
The Chiefs placed Powell (undisclosed) on the practice-squad injured list Monday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear exactly what injury Powell is dealing with, but he'll now be ineligible to play for at least the Chiefs' next four games. As a result, his earliest possible chance to return would come if the team makes it to the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 12. However, it the Chiefs secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC and a subsequent first-round bye in the playoffs, then Powell will not be able to return before the end of the season. The second-year wideout has not recorded a target over three appearances this season.

Returns to practice squad
Powell reverted to the Chiefs' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Powell was elevated to the be the team's fifth receiver against the Bengals, as Kadarius Toney remained out with a hamstring injury. The former played five snaps on special teams, but he failed to tally any stats. If Toney remains out Week 14 against the Broncos, Powell may find himself with another opportunity on the active roster.
Dec 3, 2022
Elevated for Week 13
Powell was elevated to the Chiefs' active roster Saturday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell will join the active roster as the fifth wide receiver with Kadarius Toney (hamstring) out for another week. Powell will contribute primarily on special teams, as he has played only three offensive snaps across two games on the campaign.
Nov 28, 2022
Heads back to practice squad
Powell reverted to the Chiefs' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Powell was activated for the second game in a row with Mecole Hardman (abdomen) and Kadarius Toney (hamstring) both sidelined Week 12. However, the practice-squad wideout still served an extremely limited role in the Chiefs' banged-up receiving corps, playing just two of his 10 snaps on offense against the Rams. Powell has yet to record a catch in his NFL career, and he'll be eligible for one more elevation from Kansas City's practice squad this year.
Nov 27, 2022
Elevated for Week 12
The Chiefs elevated Powell from the practice squad Saturday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
ANALYSIS
If Powell is active for Sunday's game against the Rams, he'll add depth to a receiver group that will be without Mecole Hardman (abdomen) and Kadarius Toney (hamstring) for the Week 12 contest. Even so, Powell will still be fifth in the pecking order at wideout, and he's more likely to see snaps on special teams than on offense.
Nov 21, 2022
Shifts back to practice squad
Powell reverted to the Chiefs' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Powell made his NFL debut as he was activated from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's win over the Chargers. The second-year wideout figured to provide depth for Kansas City with Mecole Hardman (abdomen) on IR and JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) ruled inactive. However, Powell did not log a target and ultimately played just one of his 16 snaps on offense Week 11. The 25-year-old will now be eligible for two more elevations while on the Chiefs practice squad this season.
Nov 19, 2022
Will be active Sunday
The Chiefs elevated Powell from their practice squad Saturday for Sunday's matchup against the Chargers, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2021 Draft, but he'll have a chance to make his NFL debut in Week 11 of the 2022 campaign. Kansas City recently placed Mecole Hardman (abdomen) on IR and already ruled out JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion), so Powell and fellow practice-squad wideout Marcus Kemp figure to provide depth behind Marquez Valdez-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore.
Sep 1, 2022
Gets another practice squad chance
The Chiefs signed Powell to the practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Powell spent the 2021 season on Kansas City's practice squad, so his position is a familiar one. The second-year pro is still looking for a chance to make his NFL debut.
Aug 30, 2022
Waived by Kansas City
Powell was waived by Kansas City on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Powell spent the 2021 campaign on Kansas City's practice squad and was unable to make the team's 53-man roster for a second consecutive season. He seems like a candidate to land on a practice squad once again in 2022.
Feb 3, 2022
Sticks in Kansas City
Powell signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on Wednesday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell spent the 2021 campaign on Kansas City's practice squad after failing to make the season-opening roster. The rookie fifth-round pick out of Clemson has yet to make his NFL debut.
Sep 1, 2021
Added to Chiefs' practice squad
Powell was added to the Chiefs' practice squad Wednesday, Charles Goldman of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell was selected by Kansas City in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft but passed through waivers unclaimed after he failed to land a spot on the 53-man roster. He recorded 882 yards and seven touchdowns in his final season at Clemson and will remain with the Chiefs as part of the team's initial practice squad.
Aug 31, 2021
Waived by Kansas City
Powell has been waived by the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Given that he was a fifth-round pick this past April, Powell was expected to make the grade, but following the team's initial roster cut-downs, Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman, Byron Pringle, Demarcus Robinson and Daurice Fountain are the team's current options at wideout.
Aug 10, 2021
Buried on depth chart
Powell is listed as a fifth-string wideout on the Chiefs' initial depth chart release, Charles Goldman of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Powell was selected in the fifth round of this year's draft, which Goldman suggests may not prevent him from being a roster casualty if things don't pick up. That being said, it's still fairly early in camp and there is plenty of time for things to change. At the very least, Powell doesn't appear to be in a good spot to earn many reps as a rookie and may be competing just to hang on to a roster spot instead.
