Lands on IR
The Browns placed Carter (knee) on injured reserve Monday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter -- who has been Cleveland's top returner on kickoffs and punts -- sustained a knee injury during the Browns' 34-10 loss to the Lions on Sunday. He will now be forced to miss at least the next four games and will be first eligible to be reinstated from IR ahead of the Browns' Week 10 clash against the Jets on Sunday, Nov. 9. Jerome Ford, Kaden Davis and undrafted rookie Isaiah Bond are the top candidates to assume return duties in Carter's absence.
Sep 29, 2025
Sidelined for weeks
Head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Monday that Carter (knee) will miss "weeks," Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland's top kick and punt returner sustained a knee injury in the Browns' 34-10 loss to the Lions on Sunday and will now be sidelined for the coming weeks. Carter had already tallied 274 kick-return and 56 punt-return yards over just four games, so this could be a huge loss to the Browns' special-teams unit. Rookie Isaiah Bond is expected to assume the team's top return-man duties until Carter returns to the field.

Dealing with knee injury
Head coach Kevin Stefanski relayed that Carter suffered a knee injury during the Browns' 34-10 loss to the Lions on Sunday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury, and his practice participation will provide clarity on his status heading into the Browns' Week 5 clash against the Vikings on Sunday, Oct. 5 in London, England. Carter turned five kickoff returns into 129 yards in Sunday's loss, and his absence would open the door for undrafted rookie Isaiah Bond to take over return duties.
Sep 21, 2025
Resumes return role
Carter returned two punts for 15 yards and one kickoff for 27 yards in Sunday's 13-10 win over the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Carter was removed from last week's game due to a concussion and missed the first two practices during the preparation for Week 3. He's returned six kickoffs for 145 yards and five punts for 56 yards through three weeks.
Sep 20, 2025
Cleared for Sunday
Carter has cleared concussion protocol and no longer carries an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Carter had been listed as questionable after being limited in practice Thursday and Friday. Now that he's gained clearance to play Sunday, the 32-year-old will be available in Week 3 as a depth wideout and key returner for the Browns.
Sep 19, 2025
Questionable for Week 3
Carter (concussion) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Packers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter has yet to clear the league's concussion protocol after he was concussed in last Sunday's loss to the Ravens. Isaiah Bond would be next in line for returner duties if Carter can't play against Green Bay.
Sep 18, 2025
Limited on Thursday
Carter (concussion) was limited in Thursday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter was concussed in last Sunday's loss to the Ravens and will need to clear the league's protocol in order to play this week against the Packers. The veteran wide receiver and kick returner has yet to play on offense this season but has returned five kickoffs for 118 yards and three punts for 41 yards.
Sep 14, 2025
Won't return Sunday
Carter (concussion) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Carter went to the locker room in the first quarter after taking a hit to the head and has been diagnosed with a concussion. He is now in the league's concussion protocol, which he will have to clear in order to play against the Packers in Week 3. Isaiah Bond fielded a punt return in the first quarter and figures to serve as the Browns' returner on special teams for the rest of Sunday's game in Carter's absence.
Sep 14, 2025
Being evaluated for concussion
Carter is being evaluated for a concussion and is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Carter was evaluated in the blue medical tent in the first quarter before heading to the locker room for further testing. Isaiah Bond should see more work on kickoff and punt returns for as long as Carter is out of the game.
Aug 25, 2025
Makes lone preseason appearance
Carter returned three punts for 32 yards and one kickoff for 10 yards in Saturday's 19-17 preseason win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Carter, who sat out the first two preseason games, made his lone appearance this summer. His experience as a returner makes him the favorite to claim a return job, but the 53-man roster projection from Zac Jackson of The Athletic puts him on the bubble. Undrafted rookie Gage Larvadain had a strong camp as a receiver and also returned punts during preseason competition. The Browns could leave Carter off the initial 53-man roster and then bring him back after sorting out other issues.
Mar 20, 2025
Latches on with Cleveland
The Browns signed Carter (hamstring) to a one-year contract Wednesday, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter turns 32 years old in April and spent last season with the Bears, appearing in 13 regular-season contests. He accrued nine catches for 72 scoreless yards on limited offensive snaps but also handled kickoff and punt returns for Chicago. He missed the final four games with a hamstring injury. Special teams is Carter's calling card and figures to be where he'll mostly operate with the Browns.
Jan 6, 2025
Set to hit free agency
Carter ended the season on injured reserve after catching nine passes for 72 yards in nine games.
ANALYSIS
Carter finishes the year with nine catches for 72 yards on 14 targets. His main contributions came on special teams, where Carter returned 15 kickoffs for 479 yards and 17 punts for 158 yards. Carter also lost one fumble. Josh Blackwell took over punt-return duties following Carter's injury. The veteran is now an unrestricted free agent.
Dec 11, 2024
Placed on IR, done for season
Carter (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It effectively ends Carter's 2024 season, as he'll be required to miss the team's final four contests after he was injured in Chicago's Week 14 loss to the 49ers.
Dec 8, 2024
Officially done for Sunday
Carter (hamstring) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's contest against the 49ers, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter went down with a hamstring injury in the first quarter and his day is now officially done in San Francisco. In his absence, Josh Blackwell will continue to operate in a more significant role on special teams.
Dec 8, 2024
Unlikely to return Sunday
Carter (hamstring) is doubtful to return to Sunday's game against the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Carter suffered a hamstring injury early in the first quarter on his first kickoff return and went back to the locker room. He's been the Bears' primary returner on kickoffs and special teams, and the only other player on the active roster with any return stats for Chicago this season is corner Josh Blackwell.
Oct 27, 2024
Targeted once in defeat
Carter caught a seven-yard pass in the Bears' 18-15 loss to the Commanders on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Carter had a pair of three-catch games when Keenan Allen missed time in Weeks 2-3. However, since Allen returned to action, Carter has one catch over the last four games. Unless other Chicago wide receivers miss time, Carter is unlikely to post useful fantasy numbers.
Oct 6, 2024
Set to play
Carter (ribs) is active Sunday against the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Carter opened Week 5 as a DNP, but he returned to close out the week with limited sessions, paving the way for him to take the field. He'll handle return duties for the Bears against Carolina, with likely limited opportunities on offense.
Oct 4, 2024
Questionable for Week 5
Carter (ribs) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters Friday that Carter has been progressing throughout the week, so it appears the 31-year-old could be a game-time decision Sunday. If Carter's ribs injury is too much to overcome, expect Velus Jones to serve as Chicago's top kick and punt returner.
Oct 3, 2024
Makes progress
Carter (ribs) was a limited participant in practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Carter logged a DNP on Wednesday, so this is a step in the right direction for the veteran wideout and return man. However, his status for Sunday's game against the Panthers remains in question. If he's unable to play, the team may have Velus Jones active for the first time since Week 1 to handle return duties in the kicking game.
Oct 2, 2024
Missing practice
Carter (ribs) will not practice Wednesday, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter presumably suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Rams, although that's not clear. The veteran wideout will work to return to the practice field Thursday or Friday, in an effort to suit up Week 5 against the Panthers.
Sep 22, 2024
Six targets in defeat
Carter caught three passes for 22 yards in the Bears' 21-16 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Carter continues to see a regular role in the Chicago offense while Keenan Allen (heel) is sidelined. As long as Carter remains in a that role, he'll continue to function as a possession receiver. Once Allen returns, Carter is likely to be a core special teamer who sees occasional snaps on offense.
Sep 16, 2024
Four targets in defeat
Carter caught three passes for 32 yards in the Bears' 19-13 loss to the Texans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Carter was been the replacement for Keenan Allen when the veteran missed snaps in Week 1 and in this game against the Texans when Allen was inactive. It's unlikely that Carter will see regular targets when Chicago's top-three receivers are healthy. However, when called upon to play significant snaps, Carter may be a useful possession receiver.
Sep 8, 2024
Targeted twice in opener
Carter hauled in one of two targets for six yards in the Bears' 24-17 win over the Titans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
In addition to returning five punts for 64 yards and one kickoff for 67 yards, Carter also saw time in the wide receiver rotation. With two targets, Carter had the most targets of any Chicago receiver aside from DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze. If Carter continues to earn the trust of the coaching staff, it's possible that he moves into a more prominent role in the offense if other pass catchers miss time.
Jun 18, 2024
Signs with Chicago
The Bears signed Carter to a one-year contract Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Carter suited up for all 17 regular-season games with the Raiders in 2023 and racked up 494 return yards in that span. He also contributed four catches for 39 yards and three carries for 17 yards. The 31-year-old veteran now stands to compete for a similar role in the return game with Chicago.
Feb 19, 2024
Totals 494 return yards in 2023
Carter caught four passes for 39 yards on seven targets and rushed three times for 18 yards in 17 games during the 2023 season. He also returned 24 punts for 232 yards and 11 kicks for 262 yards.
ANALYSIS
Carter, who'll turn 31 years old in April, served primarily as a return man in his first season with the Raiders, logging just 102 total offensive snaps across 17 contests. The journeyman wide receiver is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024, so it's uncertain that he'll be back as a specialist in Las Vegas.
Dec 13, 2023
Gets two snaps on offense Week 14
Carter played two of the Raiders' 54 snaps on offense in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Vikings and returned one kickoff for 16 yards and four punts for 39 yards.
ANALYSIS
After establishing career highs with 44 catches and 538 receiving yards in 17 games with the Chargers in 2022, Carter has barely factored into the Raiders' plans at receiver upon joining the club on a one-year deal this offseason. He's been active for all 13 of Las Vegas' games, but he's produced a 3-36-0 receiving line on six targets while playing just 88 snaps on offense. Carter is still locked in as the Raiders' top kickoff and punt returner, but any opportunities he might earn on offense are likely tied to the health of Las Vegas' top three wideouts (Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow).
Nov 13, 2023
Racks up 74 return yards Sunday
Carter rushed once for 15 yards in Sunday's 16-12 win over the Jets. He also returned three punts for 49 yards and one kickoff for 25 yards.
ANALYSIS
Carter continues to get a majority of his work in the return game, playing just seven offensive snaps for the Raiders on Sunday Night Football. His 15-yard run was good enough to move the chains on a fourth and one from Las Vegas' own 44-yard line in the fourth quarter, but Carter's touch volume figures to remain limited against the Dolphins in Week 11.
Sep 25, 2023
Makes 16-yard grab on SNF
Carter caught his only target for 16 yards in Sunday's 23-18 loss to the Steelers. He also returned five punts for 44 yards.
ANALYSIS
Carter's punt return duties kept him busy on special teams, but offensively he logged just eight snaps to rookie wide receiver Tre Tucker's 12. Carter has been targeted once in each of the Raiders' first three games, while Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers continue to command a majority of the looks from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (concussion).
Sep 18, 2023
Targeted once in loss
Carter was unable to haul in his only target in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Carter returned one kickoff for 23 yards, but he logged just nine offensive snaps despite fellow receiver Jakobi Meyers (concussion) missing the contest. Davante Adams left early with a possible concussion of his own Sunday, so the Raiders could be even thinner at the position against the Steelers in Week 3. If Meyers and Adams remain sidelined, Carter might see additional work alongside Hunter Renfrow, Kristian Wilkerson and Tre Tucker.
Sep 15, 2023
Healthy for Week 2 unlike Meyers
Carter (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game in Buffalo, while fellow receiver Jakobi Meyers (concussion) has been ruled out.
ANALYSIS
Carter trended in the right direction all week, upgrading to limited participation Thursday after missing Wednesday's practice, and practicing fully Friday to shed the injury designation. In addition to returning kickoffs and punts on special teams, Carter's a candidate to see increased action alongside Davante Adams in Meyers' absence, though Hunter Renfrow, Kristian Wilkerson and Tre Tucker could also earn more attention from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo against the Bills.
Sep 14, 2023
Mixes into practice Thursday
Carter (knee) was a limited participant at practice Thursday ahead of Sunday's game at Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
It's a step in the right direction towards being able to suit up for Week 2 after Carter missed practice entirely Wednesday. With number two wideout Jakobi Meyers dealing with a concussion, he could potentially be set up for increased reps at the Bills.
Sep 13, 2023
Sits out practice Wednesday
Carter (knee) didn't participate in practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Carter dealt with a knee issue throughout last week, logging a trio of limited practices. He was able to play against Denver on Sunday, however, finishing with nine offensive snaps and catching his only target for five yards. It's not a promising sign that the offseason acquisition is beginning this week with a DNP, though he'll have two days to get back on the practice field ahead of Sunday's contest in Buffalo.
Sep 11, 2023
One catch in season opener
Carter caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 17-16 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Carter's only catch in the season opener came on the Raiders' final drive of the contest, and he ultimately played just 10 snaps on offense. Fellow receivers Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers combined for 147 yards and two touchdowns on 15 receptions, but the latter sustained a head injury and will need to clear the NFL's concussion protocol in order to suit up against the Bills in Week 2. If Meyers remains sidelined, Carter and Hunter Renfrow could see their roles expand.
Sep 10, 2023
Available for Week 1
Carter (knee) is active for Sunday's matchup against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Carter was deemed questionable for the season opener due to a knee injury that popped up Wednesday, but he'll be good to go. With the Chargers last year, Carter caught 46 of 65 targets for 538 yards and three scores, but he's behind Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow in Las Vegas. However, Carter is expected to handle both punt and kick returns for the Raiders.
Sep 8, 2023
Questionable for Week 1
Carter (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran wideout and return man was limited in practice all week. Carter set career-highs as a receiver with the Chargers last season, turning 65 targets into a 46/538/3 line. He's slated to be a depth piece on offense in Las Vegas this year.
Sep 6, 2023
Dealing with knee injury
Carter (knee) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Rachel Gossen of the Raiders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a new issue for Carter, whose status for Week 1 now appears to be in jeopardy. If the vet misses any time, Las Vegas will probably just lean that much harder on Hunter Renfrow to run out of the slot.
Mar 29, 2023
Signing with Raiders
The Raiders have agreed to terms with Carter, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
In 2022, his lone season with the Chargers, Carter caught 46 passes (on 65 targets) for 538 yards and three touchdowns. With Las Vegas, Carter -- who turns 30 next month -- is slated to give the team added depth at wide receiver behind Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow, while also providing the Raiders with utility as both a kickoff or punt return option.
Jan 14, 2023
Injures ankle Saturday
Carter sustained an ankle injury during Saturday's wild-card contest at Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Before his departure in the second quarter, Carter reeled in two of three targets for 17 yards. With Mike Williams (back) inactive Saturday and Jalen Guyton (knee) on injured reserve, Keenan Allen, Joshua Palmer and Michael Bandy are the only healthy wide receivers on the Chargers' active roster.
Jan 13, 2023
Could benefit from Williams absence
Fellow wide receiver Mike Williams (back) has been ruled out for Saturday's playoff game against the Jaguars, which could lead to more opportunities for Carter.
ANALYSIS
Carter bumped down to fourth on the Chargers' wide receiver depth chart with everyone healthy down the stretch, but the return man showed he can contribute on offense when injuries struck during the regular season, topping 50 yards on five different occasions. With Williams sidelined, Carter figures to slot in third on the depth chart behind Keenan Allen and Joshua Palmer.
Jan 10, 2023
Solid in finale
Carter caught three of his five targets for 43 yards and also lost a fumble during the 31-28 loss to the Broncos on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Carter had his most productive performance since Week 13, filling in for Mike Williams who left the game early with a back injury. The 29-year-old finished second on the team in receiving yards behind Keenan Allen but also had a costly fumble in the third quarter.
Jan 3, 2023
Picks up production
Carter caught two of his three targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 31-10 trouncing of the Rams.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers were in thorough control of the outcome by the third quarter, so it was a little surprising to see Carter not get a bit more opportunities in junk time. He's been one of the more reliable returns in the league this season, as he's tallied at least 20 punt return yards in each of the last six contests.
Dec 20, 2022
Next to nothing once again
Carter caught one of his two targets for 15 yards in the 17-14 win over the Titans on Sunday. He also lost 10 yards on his lone carry.
ANALYSIS
Carter has played a combined 28 offensive snaps since the return of both Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. At this point, the speedster's value lies solely in leagues which also account for return yardage as Carter tallied a combined 70 yards on kick and punt returns.
Dec 13, 2022
Limited to 12 offensive snaps
Carter did not gain positive yardage with his lone reception in the 23-17 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The return of Mike Williams (ankle) officially ended any sort of fantasy viability for Carter, who played just 12 offensive snaps after playing at least 40 since Week 2. Expect Carter to make noise simply as the team's returner moving forward.
Dec 6, 2022
Quiet in loss
Carter caught one of his two targets for 14 yards during Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Carter set a new season low for both targets and catches and failed to surpass 20 yards receiving for the fourth time this year. Despite coming off his best game of the season and Justin Herbert throwing the ball 47 times, the 29-year-old receiver was unable to get involved in the passing game. With both a tough matchup against the Dolphins and Mike Williams (ankle) potentially returning this week, Carter's production should not be expected to increase.
Nov 27, 2022
Season-high 10 targets
Carter recorded seven receptions on 10 targets for 73 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-24 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Despite the presence of Keenan Allen, Carter turned 10 targets into seven receptions -- both of which were season highs. His performance was highlighted by a 33-yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter, and he also chipped in catches of 13 and 12 yards. Carter's role will likely fade once Mike Williams (ankle) is able to return, though it's unclear when that may be.
Nov 21, 2022
Still factor in passing game
Carter caught all three of his targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
The return of Keenan Allen and Mike Williams figured to relegate Carter back to his return duties, but the speedy receiver immediately returned to a prominent role after Williams suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter. Expect Carter to continue to be a mainstay in the Chargers' three-wideout packages until the duo of Allen and Williams is completely healthy.
Nov 18, 2022
Good to go for Week 11
Carter (ribs) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game versus the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
With both Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle) sidelined the last two contests, Carter put up a combined 9-117-1 line on 10 targets while playing at least 82 percent of the offensive snaps. Carter joined his fellow wide receivers on Week 11 injury reports, going LP/LP/FP (like Allen and Williams) due to a rib injury. While Carter has been cleared to play this weekend, Allen and Williams are questionable. As a result, if one or both happen to sit out again Sunday, Carter could be in line for another decent dose of passes from quarterback Justin Herbert.
Nov 16, 2022
Logs limited practice
Carter (ribs) was limited at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to both Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle) and if one or both of the Chargers' top two wideouts are able to return to action Sunday night against the Chiefs, Carter's workload could take a hit in Week 11, assuming he's active. In this past weekend's loss to the 49ers, Carter caught all four of his targets for 64 yards and a touchdown while seeing action on 50 of a possible 58 snaps on offense alongside Joshua Palmer (55 snaps, three catches on eight targets) and Michael Bandy (49 snaps, zero catches).
Nov 14, 2022
Scores touchdown in loss
Carter caught all four of his targets for 64 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 22-16 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Carter was the recipient of a wide-open touchdown to begin the Chargers' opening possession, but the speed receiver was relatively held in check from that point forward as the 49ers limited any subsequent big plays. Carter's been an offensive factor with both Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle) sidelined, but both receivers could be returning soon, which would relegate the 29-year-old back to his typical special teams duties.
Nov 6, 2022
Five catches in Week 9 win
Carter (illness) caught five of six targets for 53 yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Carter finished with exactly half the receiving yardage total of Joshua Palmer but still ranked second on the team as the Chargers played without Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle). He also retained his usual role as the return man on special teams, totaling 29 yards on three punt returns and 18 yards on one kickoff return. Carter's expanded role in Los Angeles' Justin Herbert-led passing game is intriguing, but even if the team's top two wide receivers remain sidelined in Week 10, getting open won't be easy against the stingy San Francisco secondary.
Nov 6, 2022
Suits up Sunday
Carter (illness) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Given that Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (knee) are inactive Sunday, Joshua Palmer and Carter figure to lead the Chargers' Week 9 wideout corps. With increased opportunities likely on tap for Carter in that scenario, the 29-year-old - who has caught 19 passes on 28 targets for 229 yards and a TD in seven games to date -- represents a fantasy lineup option for those who roster Allen or Williams, or are seeking short-term WR help, with six NFL teams on bye.
Nov 4, 2022
Questionable due to illness
Carter is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest in Atlanta due to an illness, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (knee) have been ruled out for Week 9, Joshua Palmer has cleared the concussion protocol and is set to play for the first time since Week 6. Carter seemingly would be next in line for targets, if he's active, but an illness will follow him into the weekend. Assuming Carter is able to suit up Sunday, he'll enter the contest with marks of 12.1 YPC, 8.2 YPT and one touchdown on 19 catches and 28 targets in seven games this season.
Oct 23, 2022
Three catches against Seattle
Carter caught three of seven targets for 37 yards in Sunday's 37-23 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
With Joshua Palmer (concussion) inactive, Keenan Allen on a pitch count in his first game back from a hamstring strain, and Mike Williams carted off in the fourth quarter after suffering an ankle injury, Justin Herbert's option were limited as he attempted to put together a late comeback. As a result, both Carter and Michael Bandy (a woeful one catch for minus-5 yards on six targets) set new season highs for themselves in targets, although neither had much to show for it. The Chargers get a timely Week 8 bye, which should at the very least allow Allen to resume his normal workload after another week of rest, but Carter could still end up handling a bigger role in the offense if Williams' injury proves to be serious.
Oct 18, 2022
Season high in targets
Carter caught three of his five looks for 17 yards in Monday's 19-16 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Both Carter and tight end Gerald Everett acted as quarterback Justin Herbert's security blanket on a night where the Broncos pass rush feasted on the opposing offensive line. The speedy receiver had lost playing time in consecutive weeks, so while Monday's outing might be a positive change of happenstance, it's more likely just the counter to what was a fierce pass rush. Keenan Allen (hamstring) hinted he could make his return next week, which would all but end Palmer's offensive snaps.
Oct 11, 2022
Does little in win
Carter caught both of his targets for nine yards in Sunday's 30-28 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Carter continues to see plenty of playing time (59 percent of the offensive snaps Sunday), but after a three-game stretch to begin the season as a deep-threat specialist, the Chargers have simply used his speed as a decoy and in the process, limiting his average depth of target dramatically. Keenan Allen (hamstring) should be back soon, which in turn would likely dramatically cut Carter's playing time.
Oct 3, 2022
Does little in win
Carter caught two of his three targets for 16 yards in the 34-24 win Sunday over the Texans. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The days of Carter being a fringe fantasy play are likely over as Keenan Allen, who had missed the last three games with a hamstring injury, is listed as day-to-day heading into the Week 5 matchup against the Browns. During Allen's three-game absence, Carter never saw more than four targets, but after two straight weeks to open the season with receptions of 20-plus yards, the speedy receiver has largely been used as a gimmick option since then.
Sep 25, 2022
Kept in check in loss
Carter corralled three receptions for 31 yards and also lost five yards on a carry in Sunday's 38-10 drubbing at the hands of the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Carter saw just four targets despite the Chargers attempting 45 passes in what quickly turned into a blowout. The speedy wide receiver once again took a backseat to Joshua Palmer (six catches, 99 yards) and also saw Jalen Guyton make some plays (two catches, 64 yards) before suffering a serious knee injury. Expect Carter to fall out of the rotation as soon as Keenan Allen (hamstring) is able to return, which could be as soon as Week 4 against the Texans.
Sep 16, 2022
Another three catches in loss
Carter recorded three receptions for 55 yards in Thursday's 27-24 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Carter was kept in check for most of the contest until the final drive when a clearly injured Justin Herbert lasered a pass to the speedy wideout for 35 yards, setting up a short touchdown pass to Joshua Palmer immediately after. Carter played a whopping 49 snaps with Keenan Allen (hamstring) sidelined and a similar type of workload could be on deck if the veteran pass catcher is forced to miss Week 3 against the Jaguars.
Sep 14, 2022
Should be involved again
Carter's teammate Keenan Allen (hamstring) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Carter stepped in as the No. 3 receiver after Allen's departure from the season-opening win over Las Vegas, catching three of four targets for 64 yards and a TD to outproduce both Mike Williams and Joshua Palmer. Those two played at least three-fourth of offensive snaps, however, while Carter finished at 37 percent. Now on his fifth team in five seasons, Carter has enjoyed flashes of deep-league fantasy relevance but hasn't yet reached even 300 receiving yards in a season.
Sep 11, 2022
Emerges as key target
Carter caught three of his four targets for 64 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-19 victory over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
An offseason import from the Commanders, Carter immediately made an impact after Keenan Allen left with a hamstring injury, as he raced up the seam for a 23-yard touchdown to close the first half. With Jalen Guyton noticeably absent from the Chargers' offensive gameplan, Carter is easily the team's fastest wideout and thus could be the biggest benefit of Herbert's electric arm. If Allen misses additional time, the 29-year-old could make for an intriguing pickup in deeper fantasy leagues.

Headed to LA
Carter signed with the Chargers on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter recorded a career-best 24 receptions for 296 yards and three touchdowns in 2021 as a member of the Washington Commanders. Now joining a wide receiver corps that already boasts Keenan Allen and Mike Williams among others, Carter isn't likely to improve upon -- or perhaps even repeat -- those marks. However, his primary value will come from his work in the return game, as he has proven to be both a valuable kick and punt returner throughout his professional career.

Enjoys solid, versatile campaign
Carter played all 17 games fo Washington in 2021, catching 24 of 44 targets for 296 yards and three touchdowns, and adding 16 punt returns for 134 yards and 36 kickoff returns for 904 yards and a fourth TD.
ANALYSIS
Carter bounced around from Houston to Philadelphia to Chicago from 2018-20, with this being just the second time he's spent the full season with one team. He even had a stretch as Washington's No. 2 receiver, which lasted about a month and a half before he moved back to a special-teams and reserve role over the final few weeks of the season. Carter is a late bloomer who made his first regular-season NFL appearance at 25, and he'll turn 29 in April about a month after he's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. If nothing else, Carter should draw interest as a return specialist and No. 4/5 receiver.
Dec 27, 2021
Loses starting job
Carter played only 22 percent of snaps in Sunday's 56-14 loss to Dallas, catching one of two targets for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Carter has dropped back into a rotation the past two weeks, following seven straight games in which he topped 50 percent snaps share. It'll likely be a mix of him, Adam Humphries, Cam Sims, Dyami Brown and Dax Milne splitting snaps behind No. 1 receiver Terry McLaurin over the final two weeks of the season.
Dec 22, 2021
Three touches in loss
Carter secured two of three targets for 12 yards while rushing once for 12 yards in Tuesday's 27-17 loss to Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Carter has now had at least three targets in six of the last seven games, but he's totaled just 30 receiving yards across the last three weeks. He struggled with efficiency once again Tuesday with Garrett Gilbert under center and ranked seventh on the team in receiving yards. Across his last seven appearances, the 28-year-old has hauled in 17 of 30 targets for 201 yards and three touchdowns while rushing four times for 17 yards.

Washington-Eagles moved to Tuesday
Carter and Washington will no longer play the Eagles on Sunday, after the NFL officially rescheduled the matchup between the two teams for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
ANALYSIS
Due to ongoing COVID-19-related issues within Washington's organization, the NFL is hopeful that by delaying the game two days, the Football Team will restore enough players from the reserve/COVID-19 list to alleviate depth concerns on the roster.
Dec 14, 2021
Targeted five times in loss
Carter caught two of his five targets for 12 yards during Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
After a four-game stretch that saw Carter catch 12 of 20 targets for 171 yards and three touchdowns, the speedy wideout has only caught three passes for 18 yards over his last two games. The good news is that Carter saw five targets Sunday, his fifth game with at least five targets this season. However, the overall production wasn't there as Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen both struggled to complete passes against Dallas' improved secondary. With Terry McLaurin in concussion protocols, Carter may be operating as the No. 1 wideout against the Eagles in Week 15.
Dec 6, 2021
Targeted once
Carter caught his lone target for six yards in Sunday's 17-15 win over the Raiders, playing 49 of 67 snaps (73 percent) on offense.
ANALYSIS
It was Carter's fourth start in the past five games, and his fifth in a row finishing in the range of 67-75 percent. Curtis Samuel's return (to a limited role) hasn't impacted Carter's snap or route shares, but the journeyman speedster nonetheless came up short in the production department this past Sunday, after catching 12 of 20 targets for 171 yards and three TDs over this past four games. Carter's likely done enough to keep the job for Week 14 against Dallas, but another quiet outing could have him looking over his shoulder at Samuel or third-round rookie Dyami Brown.
Nov 21, 2021
Extends touchdown streak
Carter caught two of three targets for 22 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-21 win over the Panthers. He also rushed once but lost three yards.
ANALYSIS
Carter's touchdown streak was brought to three straight games thanks to his four-yard score during the third quarter. Although Carter couldn't reach 50 yards like in the two games prior, his end-zone trip nonetheless made for an impactful day. The wideout will strive to keep his scoring stretch going in Week 12 versus the Seahawks.
Nov 14, 2021
Records another TD in win
Carter brought in three of six targets for 56 yards and a touchdown, rushed once for four yards, returned one punt for 10 yards and ran back two kickoffs for 47 yards in Washington's 29-19 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The speedster was productive in multiple roles again Sunday, and his 20-yard touchdown grab early in the second quarter extended Washington's early lead to 13-0. Carter has seemingly begun to carve out a role for himself on offense during the extended absence of Curtis Samuel (groin), as he now has multiple receptions and a receiving touchdown in back-to-back games. The undrafted Sacramento State product is an intriguing option, particularly in formats that count return yards, going into a Week 11 road matchup versus the Panthers.

Finds end zone in loss
Carter caught three of six targets for 51 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
The Washington passing game didn't have a whole lot of success on the afternoon, with running back J.D. McKissic being Taylor Heinicke's most effective option, but Carter led the wide receivers in yards and scored the team's only TD on a 20-yard grab in the third quarter. It was only the second time this season the 28-year-old has seen more than one target in a game this season, and Carter's role could shrink again coming out of a Week 9 bye if the likes of Curtis Samuel (groin) use the extra time off to get healthy.

Could see bump in playing time
Coach Ron Rivera said Carter will get more playing time on offense Sunday against the Saints, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The absences of Dyami Brown (knee) and Cam Sims (hamstring), coupled with uncertainty over the health of Curtis Samuel (groin) should open up more opportunities for Carter behind Terry McLaurin and Adam Humphries. Though Carter has previously struggled to make much of an impact in the NFL, he's off to a strong start this season in a special teams capacity, as he was named NFC special teams player of the week after scoring a 101-yard kickoff return touchdown against the Falcons. Now, the 28-year-old wide receiver could get more opportunities to utilize his shiftiness on offense while still maintaining a prominent special teams role.
Oct 6, 2021
Manages return TD
Carter secured his only target for 24 yards during Sunday's 34-30 win over the Falcons. He also racked up 152 kick return yards, including a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Carter was named NFC special teams player of the week for his performance in Washington's narrow win over Atlanta. His highlight play came on the opening kick return of the second half, which he converted into a 101 yard return and score. On the season, Carter is averaging 27.8 yards per kick return and 9.3 yards per punt return.

Battling for depth spot
Carter is in the mix for a roster spot, according to John Keim of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Washington appears to have open competition for the third through fifth/sixth spots at wide receiver, with Carter joined by Adam Humphries, Dyami Brown, Cam Sims, Steven Sims, Kelvin Harmon, Antonio Gandy-Golden and Isaiah Wright. It's a deep group -- one where nearly anyone could win the No. 3 job, and anyone besides Brown (a rookie third-round pick) could be released. Carter probably wouldn't make the cut on his wideout credentials alone, but his ability to return punts and kicks could put him over the top.
Apr 1, 2021
Joins WFT
Carter signed with the Washington Football Team on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Undrafted back in 2015, Carter has played 32 of his 43 NFL games for the Texans, logging 63 punt returns, 45 kick returns and 34 receptions. He's entering his age-28 season and still hasn't scored a touchdown in the NFL, but Carter nonetheless could fit with Washington as a return specialist and backup slot receiver. Come training camp, he'll compete with the likes of Steven Sims and Isaiah Wright, while Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and Adam Humphries figure to see most of the first-team snaps.
Dec 22, 2020
Back from COVID-19 list
Carter was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Carter will return to the lineup in Sunday's game against the Jaguars. He's not expected to play much on offense, but he should be the Bears' primary punt returner. The 27-year-old has averaged 8.7 yards per punt return this season.
Dec 10, 2020
Shifts to COVID list
Carter was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter joined the Bears on Nov. 18, and he has so far made two appearances for his new team after suiting up nine times as a member of the Texans between Weeks 1 and 10. The 27-year-old has been assisting on punt returns while contributing a minor offensive role this season, but he'll remain unavailable for the immediate future upon posting a positive COVID-19 test Thursday morning.
Nov 18, 2020
Finds new home
The Bears claimed Carter off waivers Wednesday, Larry Mayer of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter was waived by the Texans on Tuesday, and he didn't have to wait long to find a new team. The Sacramento State product has been effective in the return game this season, averaging 8.7 yards on 11 punt returns and 20.8 yards on 12 kickoff returns with the Texans. Since Tarik Cohen suffered a torn ACL in Week 3 against the Falcons, the team have used three different punt return men, so Carter could slot into that role as early as Week 12 with the Bears on their bye week.
Nov 16, 2020
Let go by Houston
Carter was waived by the Texans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old was removed from his duties as the kick returner and split punt returns with Will Fuller during Sunday's loss tot he Browns, and the Texans decided to part ways. C.J. Prosise handled kickoff returns in his place. Carter has one catch for eight yards, returned 12 kickoffs for 250 yards and 11 punts for 96 yards in nine games this season.
Nov 16, 2020
Reduced return role
Carter was replaced as the returner on kickoffs by C.J. Prosise in Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Browns, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
The Texans cut back on Carter's duties on special teams, replacing him completely on kickoffs while having wide receiver Will Fuller share the punt return duties. Carter returned one punt for nine yards in the loss.
Sep 11, 2020
Main kick returner in opener
Carter returned three kickoffs for 66 yards and one punt for 19 yards in Thursday's 34-20 loss to the Chiefs in Week 1.
ANALYSIS
Carter served as the fifth wideout, a slot that came down him or Keke Coutee, who was inactive. Carter also played 13 snaps on offense and caught one of two targets for eight yards, but he's not expected to move the needle on offense unless there's an injury.
Apr 15, 2020
Expected to keep roster spot
Despite facing tough competition for snaps on offense, Carter should manage to retain his roster spot with the Texans in 2020, Aaron Reiss of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Will Fuller, Brandin Cooks, Kenny Stills and Randall Cobb all have extensive NFL experience as starters, while Carter and Keke Coutee both have spent some time in the No. 3 receiver role for Houston. It was Carter who handled that job when Fuller missed a playoff game in January, while Coutee made just two appearances after mid-November. The other factor working in Carter's favor is versatility, as he was the Texans' primary returner for both kicks and punts last season. Of course, the team may decide to keep six wide receivers anyway, or else could trade one of them away to free up the logjam.
Mar 11, 2020
Inks contract extension
The Texans signed Carter to a contract extension Wednesday, Brett Okamoto reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter was set to become an exclusive-rights free agent March 18, but the team has opted to re-sign the 26-year-old before without letting him explore other options. A core special-teams asset, Carter stands to reprise his usual role as a return specialist and depth wideout for the 2020 season.
Jan 14, 2020
Loses fumble in playoff loss
Carter caught is lone target for 17 yards and lost a fumble on a kickoff return in Sunday's 51-31 playoff loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
In the midst of Houston's collapse, Carter was dislodged of the ball on a kickoff return that set up Kansas City's third touchdown. To be fair, this was a team-wide collapse, but Carter's fumble fueled the Chiefs' gathering momentum in the second quarter. He finished with 11 catches for 162 yards, while averaging 22.0 yards on kickoff returns and 9.7 yards on punt returns during the regular season. Carter was Houston's primary returner and emerged ahead of Keke Coutee as the fourth wideout. The 26-year-old enters the offseason as an exclusive rights free agent, meaning the Texans can retain him with one-year, league-minimum contract.
Aug 27, 2019
Primary replacement for Coutee
With news the Keke Coutee (ankle) may not be ready for Week 1, Carter stands as the primary beneficiary of playing time, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said he was "not hopeful" that Coutee will be available Sept. 9 against New Orleans, so Carter has a chance for increased snaps Week 1. He helped fill in for Coutee in 2018, catching 20 passes over seven games after the Texans claimed him mid-season.
Aug 17, 2019
Potential fill-in for Coutee
Houston head coach Bill O'Brien said Carter is in position to fill in if Keke Coutee (ankle) is not ready to play the season opener Sept. 9 against New Orleans, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Carter received ample playing time last season after the Texans claimed him off waivers from the Eagles midseason. He became Houston's primary returner on both punts and kickoffs and caught 20 of 23 targets for 195 yards as a fill-in for Coutee in 2018. "We talked about that last night, relative to Keke's injury and I'm glad we have DeAndre Carter," O'Brien said. "He's a good solid player, he's got good quickness, he's a strong player." Carter was recently activated off the PUP list and should see his first preseason action Saturday against the Lions.
