Out for rest of season
Coach Dan Quinn said Monday that Armstrong (knee) will miss the remainder of the season, Commanders writer Ben Standig reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong suffered the knee injury in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys after logging just four defensive snaps. The 28-year-old defensive lineman's season is over after compiling 24 tackles (16 solo), including a team-high 5.5 sacks. Washington already has several other edge defenders on injured reserve, so the team may need to look outside the organization for help at the position.

Likely missing time
Armstrong is expected to miss time after sustaining a knee injury in Sunday's 44-22 loss to the Cowboys, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran defensive end sustained a knee injury early in the first quarter of Sunday's loss, and it now appears it's serious enough for him to miss time. Armstrong has been Washington's most effective pass rusher through seven games, recording 24 total tackles, including 5.5 sacks. Preston Smith is currently the only healthy Commanders defensive end, with Armstrong, Javontae Jean-Baptiste (pectoral), Deatrich Wise (quadriceps) and Drake Jackson (knee) all dealing with injuries.

Won't return vs. Dallas
Armstrong (knee) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong sustained a knee injury during the Commanders' first defensive possession of the game, which is severe enough for him to be sidelined for the rest of Sunday's NFC East contest. The Commanders will turn to Eddie Goldman, Jer'Zhan Newton and Sheldon Day to pick up the slack at defensive end in Armstrong's absence.

ANALYSIS
Armstrong was absent from practice all week while nursing a hamstring injury, but he'll now officially play Week 7. The defensive lineman has compiled 24 total tackles (16 solo), including 5.5 sacks, over six games this season, and he'll look to keep up his high level of production against Dallas.

Armstrong (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong was held out of practice all week due to a hamstring injury, but the Commanders have not ruled him out for Sunday's NFC East tilt just yet. Oct 16, 2025
Doesn't practice Thursday
Armstrong (hamstring) did not participate in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong has opened the week with back-to-back DNPs due to a hamstring injury he picked up during Monday's loss to the Bears. He'll have to log at least a limited practice Friday in order to have a chance at playing against the Cowboys on Sunday. Armstrong has started in four of six regular-season games this year, so his absence would open the door for Jalyn Holmes, Jer'Zhan Newton and Eddie Goldman to see an increase in snaps on the defensive line.
Oct 15, 2025
Opens week with DNP
Armstrong (hamstring) was listed as a DNP on Wednesday's estimated injury report.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong sustained a hamstring injury during the Commanders' 25-24 loss to the Bears on Monday, which caused him to leave the game twice. Armstrong would have to return to practice in at least a limited capacity over the next two days in order to have a realistic chance at playing in Sunday's NFC East road clash against the Cowboys. Jalyn Holmes and Jer'Zhan Newton would stand to see more snaps on the Commanders' defensive line if Armstrong is not able to play against Dallas.
Oct 13, 2025
Exits MNF again
Armstrong (hamstring) is questionable to return to Monday night's contest versus Chicago, Commanders writer Ben Standig reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong has been in and out of the game due to a hamstring injury, and it now feels unlikely that he'll return to the field in Week 6. Jalyn Holmes will shoulder a larger workload on the defensive line in Armstrong's absence.
Oct 13, 2025
Back in game Monday
Armstrong (hamstring) has returned to Monday's matchup against the Bears, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong had to exit the field earlier in the game due to an apparent hamstring issue, but the injury appears to have been minor. The veteran defensive end is back in the contest and will try to help the Commanders finish strongly in a tightly contested matchup.
Oct 13, 2025
Questionable to return
Armstrong (hamstring) is questionable to return to Monday night's contest against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong suffered an apparent hamstring injury, which has now placed some doubt on his ability to return to action. Oct 7, 2025
Logs two sacks in win
Armstrong logged three tackles (two solo), including 2.0 sacks, during the Commanders' win versus the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS

ANALYSIS

The 2018 fourth-rounder has 19 tackles (six solo) through the first four games of the regular season.
Oct 1, 2025

Armstrong (illness) was a non-participant at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong popped up on the injury report with an apparent illness Wednesday, which forced him to miss practice. ANALYSIS
Armstrong was credited with a 13-yard sack on Jordan Love late in the fourth quarter, which led to the Packers punting the ball two plays later to give the Commanders' offense one last opportunity to score. Armstrong has collected 2.0 sacks through the first two games of 2025, and the 2018 fourth-rounder is on track to extend his streak of 5.0 sacks in a season to five.
Sep 5, 2025
Ready to rock
Armstrong (knee) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Giants, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong was held to limited participation both Wednesday and Thursday, but Friday's full practice session indicates he's moved past his knee issue in time to play Sunday. The veteran defensive end tallied 39 total tackles, including 5.0 sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass defended across 16 regular-season contests in 2024. He's expected to remain a starter on Washington's defensive line heading into the 2025 season.
Sep 4, 2025
Another limited session
Armstrong (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
The 2018 fourth-rounder opened the week with back-to-back limited practices due to a knee injury, and he would avoid an injury tag for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Giants if he were to log a full practice Friday. Armstrong signed a three-year contract with the Commanders in March of 2024, and in his first regular season with Washington he logged 39 tackles (20 solo), including 5.0 sacks, one pass defense and two forced fumbles across 16 games.
Sep 3, 2025
Limited at practice
Armstrong (knee) was a limited participant at the Commanders' practice Wednesday.

Logs 5.0 sacks for new team in 2024
Armstrong registered 39 tackles (20 solo), including 5.0 sacks, along with a defensed pass and two forced fumbles over 16 regular-season games in 2024.
ANALYSIS
After spending his first six NFL campaigns with Dallas, Armstrong signed a three-year contract with Washington last March. The defensive end logged a career-high 592 defensive snaps and 39 stops in his first season with the Commanders, though his sacks total dropped from 7.5 last season to 5.0 in 2024. However, Armstrong upped his game in the playoffs, recording 3.5 sacks over Washington's three contests. He'll likely retain a key role in 2025 and will look to carry over his strong postseason performance into more consistent production throughout the campaign.
Dec 30, 2024
Sacks Penix in Week 17
Armstrong recorded four total tackles (one solo), including 1.0 sacks, in Sunday's 30-24 overtime win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong has now logged a sack in two of his last three games after recording just 3.0 sacks over his first 12 contests this season. The 27-year-old stripped Michael Penix in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win, though the fumble was recovered by Atlanta. Armstrong has been relatively productive in his first season in Washington, tallying 36 total tackles, including 5.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles over 15 appearances. He's expected to continue starting opposite Dante Fowler as part of the Commanders' top edge-rushing duo in the Week 18 matchup against Dallas.
Dec 17, 2024
Finally back in sack column
Armstrong recorded four tackles (three solo) including 1.0 sacks during Sunday's 20-19 win at New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong got to Jake Haener late in the first quarter to log his first sack since Week 5 versus the Browns. He'll be looking to keep up the positive momentum in Week 16 versus the Eagles.
Oct 27, 2024
Will suit up against Chicago
Armstrong (ribs) is active for Sunday's game against the Bears, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong injured his ribs in Week 6 against the Ravens, which was severe enough for him to be sidelined against the Panthers in Week 7. The 2018 fourth-round pick was limited in practice all week, and while he's unlikely to be at 100 percent health, he'll suit up for Sunday's contest. Armstrong has logged 12 tackles (four solo), including 3.0 sacks, and one forced fumble through six regular-season games.
Oct 25, 2024
Could return in Week 8
Armstrong (ribs) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
The first-year Commander missed Washington's Week 7 win over the Panthers due to a ribs injury, but it appears he has a chance to return Sunday after practicing in a limited fashion throughout the week. If Armstrong can't play through the issue in Week 8, expect Efe Obada to see increased reps with Washington's first-team defense.
Oct 18, 2024
Ruled out for Week 7
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said Friday that Armstrong (ribs) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Panthers, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong will miss at least one game due to the ribs injury he sustained during Washington's loss to the Ravens in Week 6. Quinn said Armstrong "had a good week but he's not there yet." The veteran defensive end's next chance to take the field will come Week 8 versus Chicago.
Oct 16, 2024
Missing Wednesday's practice
Armstrong (ribs) won't practice Wednesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong sustained a ribs injury in the Commanders' Week 6 loss to the Ravens, and Wednesday's DNP is an indication that his injury may be significant. The first-year Commander will likely need to upgrade to at least limited participation Thursday or Friday in order to suit up for Washington's Week 7 matchup against the Panthers.
Oct 14, 2024
More testing to come
Head coach Dan Quinn told reporters that Armstrong will undergo further testing on his ribs injury Monday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong exited in the first half and did not return to Sunday's loss after sustaining a ribs injury. Monday's tests and Armstrong's practice participation this week will likely provide the best indication on whether the 27-year-old can suit up for the Commanders' Week 7 matchup against the Panthers.
Oct 13, 2024
Downgraded to out
Armstrong (ribs) won't return to Sunday's game against the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong didn't record any counting stats before exiting the contest in the first half. However, he's been a key piece of Washington's defense, posting 3.0 sacks over the prior three games. In Armstrong's absence, Efe Obada and Javontae Jean-Baptiste are candidates for increased defensive snaps.
Oct 13, 2024
Exits Week 6 with rib injury
Armstrong hurt his ribs Sunday versus Baltimore and is questionable to return.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong was hurt in the first half, and it's unclear if he'll be able to return to the game. The defensive end has been a key part of the Commanders' pass rush this season, playing over half of the team's defensive snaps in each contest coming into Sunday and tallying 3.0 sacks. Javontae Jean-Baptiste could see more action if Armstrong doesn't return Sunday.
Oct 1, 2024
Tallies 1.5 sacks vs. Cardinals
Armstrong finished Sunday's 42-14 win over the Cardinals with five tackles (three solo), including 1.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong contributed to two of the Commanders' four sacks Sunday. After combining with Frankie Luvu for a five-yard sack on Kyler Murray midway through the second quarter, Armstrong got to Murray for a seven-yard sack on a fourth-and-one late in the same frame, which led to a 45-yard field goal by Austin Seibert five plays later. Through the first four games of the regular season, Armstrong is up to nine tackles (three solo), including 2.0 sacks, and one forced fumble.
Sep 21, 2024
Will play in Week 3
Armstrong (chest) was a full participant in Saturday's practice and does not have an injury designation ahead of Monday's game against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong was limited Thursday and Friday due to a chest injury, but the 2018 fourth-round pick upgraded to a full participant for Saturday's session. He has registered three tackles through the first two games of the regular season.
Mar 11, 2024
Moving to Washington
Armstrong is slated to sign with the Commanders on Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong will remain in the NFC East and continue playing under Dan Quinn, but he'll ultimately be changing addresses in 2024. The Kansas product has spent all six NFL seasons in Dallas and recorded a career-high 38 combined tackles last season while adding 7.5 sacks, which was second on the team to Micah Parsons in 2023.
Jan 30, 2024
Another productive campaign
Armstrong recorded 38 tackles (20 solo) including 7.5 sacks with a pass defended over 17 regular-season games in 2023.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old defensive end finished second on the Cowboys in sacks behind Micah Parsons' 14.0, taking full advantage of all the attention his All-Pro teammate received. Armstrong has emerged as a solid complementary piece in the Dallas pass rush, racking up 21.0 sacks over the last three campaigns and not missing a game over the last two, and he's set up for a big payday as a free agent this offseason.
Nov 14, 2023
PIcks up another sack
Armstrong recorded three tackles (two solo) and one sack in the Cowboys' Week 10 victory over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong's sack brings his season total up to 4.5 and marks his third consecutive game leaving a dent in that category. The defensive end was on the field for 22 defensive snaps (39 percent), which is consistent with his workload from previous games. He will look to continue pressuring the quarterback in Week 11 when the Cowboys head to Carolina.
Sep 11, 2023
Two sacks in Week 1 win
Armstrong recorded three tackles including two sacks in Sunday's 40-0 rout of the Giants.
ANALYSIS
It was a huge night for the Dallas defense, and Armstrong tied Osa Odighizuwa for the team lead in sacks as the Cowboys' pass rush brought down Daniel Jones seven times in total. Armstrong piled up a career-high 8.5 sacks in 2022, and he could reach double digits this season as offenses scramble to try and find a way to slow down Micah Parsons, leaving plenty of holes for the Cowboys' other pass rushers.
Sep 6, 2023
Ready to go for Week 1
Armstrong (hamstring) did not appear on the Cowboys' injury report Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong has moved past the hamstring injury that limited him in August and appears ready to go for the season opener Sunday versus the Giants. The defensive lineman appeared in all 17 of the team's contests in 2022, recording 33 tackles, including a career-high 8.5 sacks.
Aug 10, 2023
Misses once again
Armstrong (hamstring) did not practice Thursday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong missed time previously during camp due to a hamstring injury, although he did ultimately return to practice Monday. It's unclear if the team is choosing to limit him out of caution or if he aggravated the injury, and how much time extra time, if any, the 26-year-old may miss.
Aug 7, 2023
Active at practice
Armstrong (hamstring) was a full participant at Monday's practice, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong had consecutive pressures on Dak Prescott which led to incompletions. Thus, it appears he has moved past the hamstring injury that previously left him sidelined at practice. He is expected to provide depth at defensive end for the Cowboys this season.
Jul 31, 2023
Sits out practice
Armstrong is dealing with a hamstring injury, Todd Archer of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong missed practice on Monday due to tightness in his hamstring, though the injury is not thought to be serious. The 2018 fourth-round pick is coming off a career year logging 33 tackles (17 solo) in 17 games while registering a new personal bests for sacks with 8.5. Once healthy, the 26-year-old will look to continue providing solid depth behind DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons during the 2023 campaign.
Jan 31, 2023
Emerges as pass-rush threat
Armstrong recorded 33 tackles (17 solo), including a career-high 8.5 sacks, through 17 regular-season games in 2022. He added a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
ANALYSIS
With offensive lines focusing a lot of energy on trying to slow down Micah Parsons, the Cowboys' other pass rushers found a lot of success winning one-on-one matchups. Armstrong was no exception, as the fifth-year defensive end came into the season with only 7.5 career sacks. He has one more year left on his current contract, and another strong campaign opposite Parsons could set Armstrong up for a big payday in 2024, assuming Dallas doesn't sign him to an extension before then.
Dec 24, 2022
Set to play Week 16
Armstrong (knee) has been ruled active for Saturday's game versus Philadelphia, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong was temporarily forced out during Sunday's loss to the Jaguars with a knee injury, which kept him limited in each practice leading up to Saturday's contest. The fifth-year defensive end has logged 25 tackles, eight sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries over 14 games this season, so his availability will be a major boost with Sam Williams (concussion) already inactive Week 16.
Dec 18, 2022
Back after brief absence
Armstrong (knee) returned to the field after exiting Sunday's game at Jacksonville, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The injury that forced Armstrong out of Sunday's game at the Jaguars was apparently minor, and it looks like he should be able to finish the game in overtime. Dallas' pass rush will benefit from his presence.
Dec 18, 2022
Exits game with knee injury
Armstrong (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game at Jacksonville, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong dealt with an ankle injury earlier in the week, but it's an injury to his knee that knocked him out of Sunday's game. Dante Fowler should see increased snaps in Armstrong's absence.
Dec 18, 2022
Ready to face Jags
Armstrong (ankle) is active for Sunday's game at Jacksonville, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong was questionable with an ankle injury but has been cleared to take the field for the Week 15 matchup with the Jaguars. The 25-year-old has 25 tackles (14 solo), eight sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries through 13 games this year.
Dec 16, 2022

Nov 21, 2022
Racks up two sacks in Week 11
Armstrong recorded three tackles including two sacks in Sunday's win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
It's the second time this season Armstrong has racked up multiple sacks in a game, and the 25-year-old defensive end already has a career-high seven through 10 games. With Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence drawing the focus of offenses, Armstrong should continue finding easier paths to the quarterback as a key part of Dallas' league-best pass rush.
Sep 19, 2022
Collects two sacks against Cincy
Armstrong recorded two sacks in Sunday's win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
The Dallas pass rush was all over Joe Burrow, piling up six sacks and nine QB hits in total, and Armstrong was a big part of that effort. After posting a career-high five sacks in 2021, the 25-year-old defensive end could be poised to top that number this season with offenses focused on trying to slow down Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence.
Mar 17, 2022
Agrees to terms with Dallas
Armstrong agreed to a two-year, $13 million contract with the Cowboys on Thursday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong has spent the first four seasons of his career in Dallas, and he racked up a career-high 37 tackles (23 solo), five sacks, a pass defense, a fumble recovery and a touchdown in 2021 despite missing four games with an ankle injury. He'll attempt to carve out a role as a depth option once again in 2022.
Oct 31, 2021
Suits up Sunday night
Armstrong (ankle) is active for Sunday night's game against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong put in limited practices all week but has been deemed good to go. As a result, he will be in uniform for the first time since Week 2.
Oct 16, 2021
Remains sidelined Sunday
Armstrong (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Patriots, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong didn't take part in practice this week, so he'll be unavailable for a fourth straight game. Chauncey Golston could take on a starting role if Randy Gregory (knee) is also held out.
Oct 8, 2021
Ruled out Sunday
Armstrong (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong wasn't back in practice this week, so he'll be sidelined for a third consecutive game. Chauncey Golston should continue to see additional playing time.
Oct 4, 2021
Likely won't return this week
Armstrong (anke) will likely be out for Sunday's contest against the Giants, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong hasn't been able to practice since spraining his ankle in Week 2. It would be encouraging to see him back on the practice field this week, but he will likely be shut down for at least one more week. Brent Urban will likely continue to see an increased role while Armstrong is out.
Oct 1, 2021
Won't face Carolina
Armstrong (ankle) won't play in Sunday's game against the Panthers, Jon Mochota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Armstrong hasn't been able to practice since spraining his ankle in Week 2, so it's not surprising to see him ruled out for Sunday's game. The rotational defensive end will look to heal up in time to face the Giants in Week 5.
Sep 23, 2021
Ruled out for Week 3
Armstrong (ankle) is ruled out for Monday's game against the Eagles, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
