One TD, one INT in preseason start
Lock completed 12 of 22 passes for 147 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Thursday's 23-23 preseason tie against the Raiders. He added three rushing attempts for four yards.
ANALYSIS
Lock got the start Thursday and played the entire first half with Seattle resting new starting quarterback Sam Darnold. The veteran backup bounced back from an interception on the opening drive to lead a touchdown drive on the next possession. Lock added a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tory Horton in the second quarter. Rookie third-round pick Jalen Milroe played the entire second half but finished with only 61 passing yards. Milroe is viewed as a raw prospect and seems to be behind Lock in the battle for the second spot on the depth chart, though avoiding turnovers will nonetheless be a point of emphasis for Lock in the team's second preseason game against the Chiefs on Aug. 15.

Splitting reps with rookie Thursday
Lock will split reps with Jalen Milroe during Thursday's preseason game versus the Raiders, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
It's still unclear who will officially start the game, but offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is aiming to split the reps evenly between the two quarterbacks. Milroe draws plenty of hype due to exceptional running upside, while Lock is aiming to provide a steady No. 2 presence behind starter Sam Darnold. Last season, Lock made five starts for the Giants and completed 60.0 percent of his passes for 1,062 yards (6.2 YPA), six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Faces competition for backup job
Lock will face competition for the No. 2 quarterback job behind Sam Darnold after the Seahawks selected Jalen Milroe in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft
ANALYSIS
For a brief moment the Seahawks had three capable backups in their quarterback room, but they traded Sam Howell to the Vikings on Day 3 of the draft. Thus, Lock will need to earn the No. 2 job in his second stint with the Seahawks. Milroe has unique tools for the position, showcasing 4.4 speed and a marvelous deep ball, while Lock has experience on his side and is one of the better backups in the league.
Apr 11, 2025
Reunites with Seattle
Lock agreed to terms Friday on a contract with the Seahawks, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock struggled amid less than ideal circumstances with the Giants last year, completing 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,071 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions across eight regular-season appearances. He now returns to Seattle, where in 2023 he suited up for four regular-season games and looked modestly better, with a 63 percent completion rate, 543 passing yards, three touchdowns and three INTs. The 28-year-old figures to spend the offseason competing with Sam Howell for the top backup gig behind Sam Darnold.

Struggles in Week 18 loss
Lock completed 22 of 29 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Eagles. He added three rushing yards on two carries.
ANALYSIS
Even against a Philly defense resting multiple starters ahead of the playoffs, Lock couldn't get much going, although he did connect with Malik Nabers for a 45-yard TD in the fourth quarter as the Giants tried to mount a comeback from a 17-3 deficit. The Giants ended the regular season in line to pick third overall in the 2025 Draft, putting them in position to potentially select a new franchise quarterback, but even if they don't, Lock seems unlikely to return to New York in free agency. The 28-year-old completed 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,071 yards and a 6:5 TD:INT over eight appearances in 2024.
Dec 29, 2024
Five total TDs in upset win
Lock completed 17 of 23 passes for 309 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's 45-33 win over the Colts. He also rushed five times for no gain and scored a rushing touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Lock threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Malik Nabers in the first quarter, then added touchdowns of 32 yards to Darius Slayton and five yards to Wan'Dale Robinson in the second. After a quiet third quarter, Lock came alive with a 59-yard touchdown pass to Nabers in the fourth quarter, then ran in a game-sealing five-yard touchdown with 2:57 remaining. This productive outing came out of nowhere considering Lock came in with a 1:4 TD:INT in three previous starts this season. After posting his best passing yardage total since a 339-yard performance in Week 18 of the 2021 season with the Broncos, Lock will look to put on an encore in Week 18 against an Eagles team that has already wrapped up the NFC East.

Avoids injury designation
Lock (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Colts, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock will thus make another start, despite throwing two pick-sixes in a blowout loss at Atlanta last Sunday. It's unclear if he'll have the help of WR Malik Nabers, who is listed as questionable with a toe injury and told reporters he'll be a game-day decision.
Dec 26, 2024
Stays limited in practice
Lock (shoulder) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said earlier this week that Lock is in line to make a second straight start Sunday versus the Colts, though it's not yet clear if the quarterback will approach that contest with an injury designation. He's been listed as a limited participant in both of the Giants' first two Week 17 practices, so he may need to put in a full session Friday to clear up any lingering concern about his availability heading into the weekend.
Dec 25, 2024
Listed as limited Wednesday
Lock (right shoulder) is listed as limited on Wednesday's estimated injury report, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock injured his right shoulder this past Sunday in Atlanta and underwent an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the issue. On Tuesday, coach Brian Daboll told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com that Lock was slated to be the Giants' starting QB in Week 17, but he'll seemingly have some practice limitations ahead of Sunday's contest against the Colts. In the end, he'll have two more chances to get back to full participation this week before he potentially carries a designation into the weekend.
Dec 24, 2024
Getting another start Week 17
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Lock (shoulder) is on track to start Sunday's game against the Colts, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock sat out the Giants' Week 15 loss to the Ravens with sore heel and a left elbow injury, but he was cleared to start in this past Sunday's 34-7 loss to the Falcons. He committed three turnovers (two interceptions and one lost fumble) and completed just 22 of 39 pass attempts for 210 yards and one touchdown, but since Lock played every offensive snap in the loss, he was presumed to be healthy coming out of the start. However, Daboll disclosed Monday that Lock hurt his right shoulder in the contest and required an MRI, though imaging apparently revealing nothing too concerning. Lock is thus on track to make a second straight start this weekend, though the shoulder issue could still affect his practice participation leading up to the game.
Dec 23, 2024
Getting MRI on shoulder
Lock is undergoing an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of a shoulder injury he sustained during Sunday's 34-7 loss to the Falcons, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock turned in a disastrous performance Sunday, completing just 22 of 39 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions, both of which were pick-sixes. A two-yard connection with Tyrone Tracy in the end zone gave Lock his first touchdown pass of the 2024 campaign, but he wasn't able to emerge from the blowout loss at full health. Coach Brian Daboll said the Giants haven't yet made a decision at quarterback for Week 17 against the Colts, per Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record, but it's conceivable the team turns back to Tommy DeVito under center even if Lock's shoulder issue doesn't prove to be significant.
Dec 22, 2024
Throws two pick-sixes in loss
Lock completed 22 of 39 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions in Sunday's 34-7 loss to the Falcons. He also gained one yard on his only carry and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
It was a simply brutal performance from Lock, as both his INTs turned into pick-sixes -- Jessie Bates took the first one 55 yards for the score that put Atlanta up for good in the second quarter, before Matthew Judon piled on in the third quarter with a 27-yard TD return. Lock did throw his first touchdown pass of the season, a two-yard connection with Tyrone Tracy, but it was small consolation. The Giants may have little choice but to turn back to Tommy DeVito at quarterback in Week 17 against the Colts.
Dec 20, 2024
Set for Week 16 start
Lock (heel/left elbow) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Coach Brian Daboll told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com on Wednesday that Lock was set to regain the Giants' starting quarterback job for Week 16 after serving as the emergency third QB behind Tommy DeVito and Tim Boyle in a Week 15 loss to the Ravens. Lock followed up Wednesday's limited session with back-to-back full practices this week, thereby locking him in to another start. Meanwhile, DeVito, who suffered a concussion against Baltimore, cleared concussion protocol Friday and will settle into the No. 2 role this weekend, per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. While operating as the starter Weeks 13 and 14, Lock completed 42 of 81 passes (51.9 percent) for 405 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions, recorded nine carries for 116 yards and one TD and lost a fumble.
Dec 19, 2024
Manages full practice
Lock (heel/elbow) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock, who was limited in practice Wednesday and missed the Giants' Week 15 loss to the Ravens, now seems fully on track for Sunday's road matchup against the Falcons. Head coach Brian Daboll has already announced that, if available, Lock will start versus Atlanta on Sunday, priming him for matchup against Falcons rookie quarterback Michael Penix. Tommy DeVito (concussion) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday and seems to be trending in the right direction for Week 16, meaning he could be available as Lock's backup.
Dec 18, 2024
Logs limited practice Wednesday
Lock (heel/left elbow) officially was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock missed the Giants' Week 14 loss to the Ravens due to a sore heel and a left elbow injury, which kept him off the practice field in advance of that contest. Prior to getting back on the field Wednesday, he was effectively name the Week 15 starting quarterback by coach Brian Daboll, who told Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com that the team is planning on Lock being under center Sunday in Atlanta. Meanwhile, Tommy DeVito remains in the concussion protocol and also operated with a cap on his reps Wednesday, meaning Tim Boyle is the healthiest signal-caller on New York's active roster.
Dec 18, 2024
On track to start Week 16
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that Lock (heel/elbow) will practice Wednesday and is expected to start Sunday's game against the Falcons, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock started for the Giants in losses to the Cowboys and Saints in Weeks 13 and 14, respectively, completing 42 of 81 pass attempts for 405 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 116 yards and a touchdown on nine carries between those contests. Last Monday, Daboll said that Lock would remain the Giants' starter if healthy, but a sore heel plus a lingering left elbow injury kept him out for this past Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Ravens. Tommy DeVito started that game before exiting with a concussion, resulting in Tim Boyle finishing out the contest. Though DeVito will have a chance at clearing concussion protocol prior to Sunday, the Giants are preparing to go back to Lock under center, provided he's able to make it through the week of practice without any setbacks.
Dec 15, 2024
Sidelined for Week 15 game
Lock (heel/elbow) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Ravens as New York's emergency No. 3 quarterback, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock is dealing with a left elbow injury and a sore heel, though the latter issue is considered the greater concern after the quarterback had been in a walking boot this past week. He was unable to practice Wednesday through Friday, though the Giants still left the door open for Lock to be available as a backup to Tommy DeVito on Sunday by listing him as doubtful heading into the weekend. As a result of his inactive status, Lock won't be available to play Sunday unless DeVito or backup Tim Boyle -- who was elevated from the practice squad Saturday -- are forced out of the contest due to injury. Head coach Brian Daboll previously said that Lock will be the Giants' starter when healthy, so the 28-year-old could resume directing the offense Week 16 against the Falcons if he shows improvement in his recovery from his two injuries.
Dec 13, 2024
Doubtful for Sunday
Lock (heel/left elbow) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game versus the Ravens, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock emerged from this past Sunday's loss to the Saints with a heel injury that required a walking boot. As the week went on, coach Brian Daboll conceded that Tommy DeVito would start in place of Lock, but the latter still had a chance to be the emergency third quarterback Sunday, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. Considering Lock now is doubtful to suit up, though, practice-squad member Tim Boyle will be elevated to the action roster Saturday to serve as the backup.
Dec 13, 2024
May be emergency QB
Lock (heel/elbow) is no longer using a walking boot and may be available as the emergency No. 3 quarterback for Sunday's game against the Ravens, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Giants coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Tommy DeVito is expected to start Sunday's game, although Lock is still considered the starter once healthy. Tim Boyle likely will be elevated from the practice squad as the No. 2 QB, with Lock only available on an emergency basis but then potentially returning to the starting job Week 16 or 17,
Dec 12, 2024
Sidelined for practice again
Head coach Brian Daboll said that Lock (heel/left elbow) won't participate in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock remains confined to a walking boot and has yet to log any practice reps so far this week, making it unlikely that he'll be available for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Daboll has already said that Tommy DeVito is on track to serve as the Giants' starting quarterback in Week 15, but the team could wait and see how Lock recovers from his heel injury over the next few days before determining if he's capable of handling backup duties. If the Giants end up ruling Lock out for Sunday's game, however, Tim Boyle would likely be elevated from the practice squad to serve as DeVito's backup.
Dec 11, 2024
Likely to miss out on Week 15 start
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Lock is tending to a heel injury and is likely to cede starting quarterback duties to Tommy DeVito in Sunday's game against the Ravens, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock is in a walking boot and won't practice Wednesday, leaving DeVito to take all of the first-team reps as he prepares for what would be his second start of the season Sunday. When New York waived Daniel Jones in November, DeVito received the first chance to step in as the Giants' starter in a Week 12 loss to Tampa Bay, but DeVito suffered a forearm injury in that contest that opened the door for Lock to start the past two games. Though Daboll said Monday that Lock would remain the starting quarterback if healthy, the 28-year-old looks like he'll have to miss at least one game after emerging from this past Sunday's 14-11 loss to the Saints with the heel injury. The Giants haven't yet discounted Lock from being available for the Week 15 contest, but assuming he's formally ruled out following the release of Friday's injury report, Tim Boyle will likely be elevated from the practice squad to serve as DeVito's backup against Baltimore.
Dec 9, 2024
Needs MRI, still starter if healthy
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Monday that Lock (undisclosed) is undergoing an MRI but remains in line to start Sunday's game against the Ravens, as long as he's able to suit up, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was sent for X-rays after New York's 14-11 loss to the Saints in Week 14, a contest in which he completed just 21 of 49 passes for 227 yards and an interception. He did, though, toss a two-point conversion and add 59 rushing yards on five carries. Daboll said Lock emerged from the loss with "a couple bumps and bruises," per Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic, so there seems to be optimism that he's avoided a more serious injury.
Dec 8, 2024
Tough day against Saints
Lock completed 21 of 49 passes for 227 yards and an interception in Sunday's 14-11 loss to New Orleans. He added 59 rushing yards on five carries and threw a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
While his passing numbers were poor overall, Lock did lead two drives in the fourth quarter that should have brought the Giants back from a 14-3 deficit and forced overtime. Unfortunately, Graham Gano's 35-yard field-goal attempt with just 11 seconds left got blocked, sending New York to its eighth straight loss. Per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Lock was sent for X-rays after the game, but it's unclear what he was being checked out for. It's also unclear if Lock will make a third straight start if he's healthy, or if coach Brian Daboll will turn back to Tommy DeVito in Week 15 against the Ravens.
Dec 4, 2024
Drawing another start
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Lock will start Sunday's game against the Saints, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock will draw a second consecutive start Week 14, while Tommy DeVito (forearm) may be available for No. 2 duties depending on the extent of his practice activity leading up to Sunday's contest, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. Coming off a disappointing 27-20 loss to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, in which he completed just 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards with no touchdowns and one interception (a pick-six), Lock will need to perform better for any chance for retaining the No. 1 role beyond taking on New Orleans. He also had four carries for 57 yards and a score versus the Cowboys, but lost a fumble.
Nov 29, 2024
No starter named for Week 14 yet
Giants coach Brian Daboll said Friday that he doesn't know if Lock or Tommy DeVito (forearm) will start at quarterback Week 14 against the Saints, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock filled in as the starter for an injured DeVito on Thursday, committing two turnovers while throwing for 178 yards on 32 attempts in a 27-20 loss at Dallas. Lock ended up with a decent fantasy score thanks to four rush attempts for 57 yards and a TD, but his pick-six and lost fumble made it challenging for the Giants to win. DeVito may thus step back in as the starter once he's deemed healthy enough to play.
Nov 28, 2024
Disappoints in spot start
Lock completed 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and added four rushes for 57 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' 27-20 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Lock got his sought-after chance for a start with Tommy DeVito (forearm) sidelined, but the veteran signal-caller ultimately produced middling results with his Thanksgiving opportunity. Lock's afternoon did start off in promising fashion, as he led a 13-play, 70-yard march on the Giants' first possession that culminated with a Tyrone Tracy touchdown run. However, Lock threw a pick-six on the next drive and subsequently lost a fumble on the first possession of the second half, which led to another Cowboys score. Lock did cap off the Giants' last possession of the day with an eight-yard touchdown run, but New York never regained possession. Thursday may have well represented Lock's only starting opportunity for now, considering DeVito should be ready to play by the time a Week 14 home matchup against the Saints on Sunday, Dec. 8 rolls around.
Nov 28, 2024
Starting for DeVito on Thursday
Lock will start Thursday's game at Dallas, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, with Tommy DeVito (forearm) inactive as the Giants' emergency third QB.
ANALYSIS
The will he or won't he situation with DeVito now has been clarified as he deals with a sore right forearm. With DeVito sidelined, Lock will earn his 24th career start but first as a member of the Giants. In the other 23 between the Broncos and Seahawks, Lock averaged 203 yards per game on 60.4 percent passing with a 27:20 TD:INT, rushed 75 times for 290 yards and five touchdowns and fumbled 11 times (four lost).
Nov 28, 2024
In line to start Thursday
Lock is expected to be the Giants' starting quarterback Thursday in Dallas with Tommy DeVito (forearm) unlikely to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The tide has changed multiple times for DeVito this week as he tends to soreness in his right forearm, but this report from Rapoport indicates Lock will get the spot start for the Giants in Week 13. In three appearances this season, Lock has completed four of nine passes for nine yards and recorded a 13-yard carry.
Nov 27, 2024
Start not guaranteed Thursday
Lock may not start in place of Tommy DeVito (forearm) in Thursday's game at Dallas, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reported earlier Wednesday that DeVito was a long shot to play Week 13, Lock became the favorite to be under center for the Giants on Thursday. Having said that, Rapoport relayed that DeVito didn't travel with his teammates and instead remained behind to undergo an MRI on his right forearm to determine if something may have been missed. The team plans for DeVito to throw before Thursday's game to see if there's less discomfort than there has been the past few days, and if all goes well, he'd get the start instead of Lock. Ultimately, a decision will be made on that front about 90 minutes before a 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
Nov 27, 2024
Looks headed for Thanksgiving start
Lock is expected to serve as the Giants' starting quarterback in Thursday's game against the Cowboys with Tommy DeVito (forearm) listed as questionable but looking like a "longshot" to be available, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Following Sunday's 30-7 loss to the Buccaneers, head coach Brian Daboll said that DeVito would retain the starting job if healthy, but the second-year signal-caller has been battling soreness in his right forearm. DeVito was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice session before sitting out Wednesday's walk-through entirely, leaving the door open for Lock to take extra reps with the first-team offense. While DeVito is still scheduled to travel to Dallas later Wednesday after receiving further evaluation, the Giants are preparing for Lock to direct the offense on Thanksgiving Day. Lock has taken just 13 snaps over the course of three appearances this season as a backup behind the since-waived Daniel Jones and DeVito, but Lock has 23 career NFL starts under his belt and should make for a capable fill-in option for the Giants on a short week. However, with all 32 NFL teams set to play this week, Lock likely won't represent much more than a low-end fantasy play in leagues that start two quarterbacks or have a
Nov 26, 2024
Gets extra reps in practice
Lock took extra reps with the Giants' first-team offense in Tuesday's practice while starter Tommy DeVito was a limited participant due to a sore right forearm, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After the Giants removed Daniel Jones from the starting role coming out of a Week 11 bye before ultimately waiving him, DeVito was named the team's Week 12 starter, despite Lock having slotted ahead of DeVito on the depth chart all season. With DeVito briefly getting the wind knocked out of him in this past Sunday's 30-7 loss to the Buccaneers, Lock came on to play one snap and completed his lone pass attempt for a three-yard gain. Though DeVito wasn't included on the initial Week 13 injury report released Monday, the quarterback is nursing an injury to his forearm as Thursday's game against the Cowboys approaches. According to Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic, DeVito said after Tuesday's practice that he still expects to start the Thanksgiving Day game, but Lock will stay ready in case he's needed.
Nov 18, 2024
Remains No. 2 quarterback
Head coach Brian Daboll announced Monday that Lock will serve as the backup to starting quarterback Tommy DeVito beginning with Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, while Daniel Jones moves to the No. 3 spot on the depth chart after starting each of the team's first 10 games.
ANALYSIS
Though Lock has served as the top backup to Jones all season, he'll stick in the No. 2 role while DeVito climbs from the bottom of the depth chart to the top. While Daboll declined to offer many specifics behind the changing of the guard at quarterback, the decision to bypass Lock for the starting nod is likely related to the signal-caller's contract, which contains multiple playing-time and performance-based incentives. Jones, meanwhile, has a contract that contains a $23 million guarantee for 2025 if he's unable to pass a physical in March, and with the Giants seemingly no longer viewing him as their franchise quarterback, the team will avoid exposing him to injury over the final seven games of the season by making him a healthy inactive. Lock is scheduled to become a free agent in 2025, which is another possible factor in the team's decision to start DeVito, who is two years younger and is likelier than Lock to be part of the roster next season.
Oct 20, 2024
Ball security issues in relief
Lock completed three of eight passes for only six yards after replacing Daniel Jones for the fourth quarter of Sunday's 28-3 loss to the Eagles. He added 13 rushing yards on his lone carry.
ANALYSIS
After the game, Brian Daboll squashed any notion that he was considering a more permanent switch at quarterback, as Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports that the Giants' head coach still views Jones as his starter. Lock did a good job of avoiding a QB controversy on his own however, leading the Giants to zero points on three drives and committing two fumbles, losing one of them. It's the most extensive action Lock has seen this season, but the 27-year-old will be back on the bench in Week 8 against the Steelers.
Sep 6, 2024
Suiting up Sunday
Lock (abdomen) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's Week 1 game against the Vikings, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock has been dealing with this abdomen issue for about a month now, but it appears the injury won't stop him from suiting up for the Giants' regular-season opener Sunday. In his first season with New York, the 2019 second-round pick is expected to serve as the Giants' top backup quarterback behind Daniel Jones.
Sep 5, 2024
Remains limited Thursday
Lock (abdomen) remained a limited participant on Thursday's estimated practice report, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was injured in New York's Aug. 8 preseason contest. If he's unable to dress as Daniel Jones' backup Sunday against the Vikings, second-year QB Tommy DeVito would get the nod as the Giants' QB2.
Sep 4, 2024
Starts week limited
Lock (hip) was a limited participant during practice Monday, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock is still tending to the injury he suffered in the team's first preseason game Aug. 8 against the Lions. Carroll reported last Wednesday that head coach Brian Daboll thought the Missouri product would likely be ready Week 1, so his current status may not be of much concern. Either way, Lock will be on the sidelines Sunday when the Giants host the Vikings, either as the team's No. 2 quarterback behind Daniel Jones or as an inactive. If he is ultimately unable to play, the team will turn to Tommy DeVito as the backup.
Aug 28, 2024
Expected to be ready for Week 1
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Sunday that Lock (hip) will likely be good to go for the start of the regular season, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock hurt his hip in New York's preseason opener versus Detroit and didn't play in either of the team's remaining two exhibition contests. Daboll indicated Sunday that the quarterback is "moving in the right direction," which is supported by the fact that Lock recently returned to team drills and even even suited up for the Giants' preseason finale against the Jets on Saturday, though he didn't take the field. It's worth noting, though, that New York included three quarterbacks -- Lock, starter Daniel Jones and second-year pro Tommy DeVito -- on its initial 53-man roster, with DeVito possibly making the cut as insurance for Lock.
Aug 24, 2024
No action in preseason finale
Lock (hip) did not appear in Saturday's 10-6 preseason loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Lock injured his hip in the Giants' first preseason contest and has not appeared in game action since. However, he has returned to team drills and was spotted in pads before Saturday's game. Considering the health concerns surrounding starter Daniel Jones, the Giants had little to gain by putting Lock in potential jeopardy ahead of the regular season. Lock will enter the season as the backup.
Aug 24, 2024
In uniform Saturday
Lock (hip) is suited up ahead of Saturday's preseason game against the Jets, Bob Brookover of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was removed from the Giants' exhibition opener Aug. 8 and eventually was diagnosed with a bone contusion in his left hip and a strained oblique. The pair of health concerns sidelined him at practice until this past Tuesday, and he now has a chance to see his second dose of preseason action Saturday. Assuming he gets in the game, Lock would split QB duties with fellow reserve Tommy DeVito with Daniel Jones expected to sit out.
Aug 21, 2024
Remains out
Lock (hip) didn't participate in team drills Wednesday, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants' No. 2 quarterback injured his hip during the team's first preseason game against the Lions, and he's yet to return to the field. While Lock remains sidelined, expect Tommy DeVito to take snaps as New York's second-string quarterback.
Aug 20, 2024
Back on the field
Lock (hip) is practicing Tuesday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock suffered a bone contusion to his hip during the team's first preseason game against the Lions on Aug. 8 and has been out of action since. However, the veteran should be ready Week 1 against the Vikings, where he's expected to be the team's No. 2 quarterback, behind starter Daniel Jones.
Aug 13, 2024
Could play Saturday
Coach Brian Daboll said Tuesday that Lock (hip) is doing "a lot better" and could be active for Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock said he fully expects to be ready for Week 1, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. The backup QB suffered a bone contusion and strained oblique during New York's preseason opener against the Lions, but it doesn't appear he'll be sidelined too long. Until Lock returns to practice, though, No. 3 quarterback Tommy DeVito figures to benefit from increased reps.
Aug 11, 2024
Will miss multiple practices
Lock (hip) will likely sit out of at least three practices, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The backup quarterback suffered a bone contusion and strained oblique during the Giants' preseason game Thursday against the Lions. Fortunately for Lock, the injury will not require surgery and New York is not adding another quarterback at this time, per Dunleavy. Lock's absence, though, should give third-stringer Tommy DeVito more reps in New York's next preseason contest Aug. 17 against the Texans.

To miss time, won't need surgery
Lock (hip) is expected to miss time due to a bone contusion and strained oblique suffered during Thursday's preseason game against the Lions, but he will not require surgery, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Brian Daboll said the Giants could add another quarterback with Lock injured. Though Daboll declined to offer a true estimate of Lock's recovery timetable, per Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports, he did say "it could be longer than a couple days." Tommy DeVito figures to step up and handle the bulk of second-team reps at practice as long as Lock is unable to go. It's possible, depending on the extent of Lock's absence and whether DeVito is able to impress with more opportunities on deck, that a competition for the No. 2 spot behind starter Daniel Jones could materialize.
Aug 8, 2024
Should be OK
GM Joe Schoen said on the Giants' broadcast that Lock will be fine after injuring his left hip during Thursday's preseason game versus the Lions, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was in clear pain after taking a hit late in the first quarter. With Daniel Jones not playing Thursday, Tommy DeVito ended up taking over for Lock, and the second-year pro may be destined for second-team reps in the short term until Lock is healthy.
Aug 8, 2024
Hurts hip Thursday
Lock sustained a hip injury during Thursday's preseason game against the Lions, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock displayed clear discomfort late in the first quarter, favoring his left side in the process. Prior to his exit, he got the start in place of Daniel Jones, completing four of 10 passes for 17 yards and one interception while taking two carries for 12 yards. Tommy DeVito took over for Lock following his departure.

Says Jones is the starter
Lock said Friday that he's been told Daniel Jones (knee) is the Giants' starting quarterback, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The question likely was asked in response to Seahawks GM John Schneider saying Thursday that he wanted to re-sign Lock but lost out to the Giants because they offered the opportunity to compete for a starting job. Lock seems to be suggesting otherwise, though Jones' recovery from an ACL tear suffered Nov. 5 could make things interesting. Jones' contract is another factor, with a $23 million injury guarantee for 2025 potentially creating a mid/late-season situation like the one we saw in Denver with Russell Wilson in 2023 (Wilson was benched to ensure he'd stay healthy and reduce the dead-cap charge for releasing him in the offseason).

In the mix for starting job?
Seahawks GM John Schneider said Thursday that he wanted to re-sign Lock but wasn't able to because the Giants sold him on an opportunity to compete for a starting job, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Schneider revealed the interesting bit of information on The Wyman and Bob Show (710 Seattle Sports) shortly after trading for former Commanders QB Sam Howell. Reports suggest Lock signed with the Giants for backup money -- a one-year, $5 million contract, per ESPN -- but he may nonetheless have a chance to start with Daniel Jones (knee) coming off a disappointing season in which he averaged a career-worst 5.7 yards per pass attempt before suffering an ACL tear. Both quarterbacks are 2019 draft picks entering their age-27 campaigns, and while Jones has a full guarantee for his $36 million in compensation this year, the only guarantees thereafter are for injuries. Even if Jones ends up starting for most of the season, it could turn into a 2023 Russell Wilson situation where he's benched to avoid those injury guarantees and ensure the team can move on from him in the offseason. The various factors, including Jones' rehab from knee surgery, give Lock a good chance to play at some point this season, though things

Joining Giants
Lock and the Giants have reached agreement on a contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock joins a quarterback room with Daniel Jones (knee), Tommy DeVito and Jacob Eason, after former Giant Tyrod Taylor reached an agreement with the Jets on Monday. It's a situation that strongly favors Lock for the No. 2 QB job, though the Giants may not be done making additions/subtractions to the group, with the upcoming NFL Draft offering potential to add a long-term replacement for Jones (who is rehabbing an ACL tear). Lock made four appearances for Seattle in 2023, including two starts, completing 48 of 76 passes (63.2) for 543 yards (7.1 YPA), three touchdowns and three interceptions. He never panned out as a starter in Denver after going in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but Lock at least looks like the part of a high-end backup after his moderately successful cameo with the Seahawks last year.
Jan 29, 2024
Solid in limited action
Lock completed 48 of 76 passes for 543 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions across four games in the 2023 season. He also rushed five times for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
Lock started two games, finishing with a 1-1 record after a thrilling win over the Eagles in Week 15. The 27-year-old quarterback recorded 7.1 YPA while 10 of his 76 passes went for 20-plus yards. Lock certainly appears to be one of the top backups in the league, but his chances of being a starter in 2024 are slim, especially with a solid rookie quarterback class coming in. Nevertheless, he'll be a free agent in March and could seek a better chance to start elsewhere, as Geno Smith's contract all but guarantees he's the starter in Seattle to begin next season.
Dec 20, 2023
Returning to backup role
Lock's teammate Geno Smith (groin) will return to full practice participation Wednesday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock played reasonably well during Smith's two-week absence, but coach Pete Carroll already confirmed that Smith will return to the starting role once he's healthy. With Smith apparently now ready, Lock will be the backup quarterback this Sunday at Tennessee.
Dec 18, 2023
Leads team to victory on MNF
Lock completed 22 of 33 pass attempts for 208 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 20-17 win over Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Lock got the nod under center Monday even though Geno Smith (groin) was deemed healthy enough start pregame. This effectively signals a change at quarterback by head coach Pete Carroll, a change that is likely to stick after Lock led the Seahawks to victory over the now 10-4 Eagles. The former Bronco completed two-thirds of his passes without committing a turnover in a tough defensive matchup. Barring a shocking announcement, Lock figures to continue starting for Seattle when the club visits Tennessee on Sunday.
Dec 18, 2023
Likely starting again Monday
Lock is in line to start Monday's contest against the Eagles, even with Geno Smith (groin) being deemed active by the Seahawks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was able to complete a pregame workout as he tested out his balky groin, but after Seattle posted its list of Week 15 inactives that didn't include his name, he didn't make an appearance during warmups. Lock proceeded to work with the team's first-team offense, with Sean Mannion mixing in behind him. Assuming he gets the nod after Monday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, Lock will get his second start in a row in place of Smith.
Dec 18, 2023
Working with first-team offense pregame
Lock was spotted warming up with the Seahawks' first-team offense ahead of Monday's game versus the Eagles, despite Geno Smith (groin) being active, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
In fact, Smith hasn't been seen on the field during pregame warmups since completing an earlier workout in which he looked like his normal self. The Seahawks have declined to name a starting quarterback with less than 30 minutes to go before Monday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, but Lock may be the favorite to do so over Smith considering the current situation.
Dec 10, 2023
Late turnovers doom upset bid
Lock completed 22 of 31 pass attempts for 269 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 28-16 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Lock got the nod under center after starter Geno Smith (groin) was officially ruled out after attempting to warm up unsuccessfully prior to Sunday's kickoff. The backup performed admirably in a pinch, especially considering the difficulty of opponent he was asked to start against. Lock actually had the Seahawks within striking distance of the NFC's new No. 1 seed to begin the fourth quarter, but he promptly threw two interceptions and Seattle wore its seventh loss of the season. Given the fact that Smith had a shot to play Sunday, there is a good chance Lock resumes his backup role against the Eagles next Monday.
Dec 10, 2023
Getting spot start for Smith
Lock will start at quarterback for the Seahawks on Sunday at San Francisco with Geno Smith (groin) inactive, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith showed up on Seattle's Week 14 injury report Thursday with a groin concern, which limited him that day and kept him out of drills entirely one day later. Coach Pete Carroll termed Smith a game-time decision Friday, but the quarterback ultimately wasn't able to make it through a pregame warmup and make himself available for Sunday's game. Lock thus will earn his first start since Jan. 8, 2022 as a member of the Broncos. In 26 appearances (21 starts) in his five-year career, he's completed 58.9 percent of his passes, averaged 184.8 yards per game and posted a 25:21 TD:INT.
Dec 10, 2023
Preparing to start vs. 49ers
Lock is preparing to start Sunday's game against the 49ers with Geno Smith (groin) listed as questionable, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock took the majority of Seattle's first-team reps late in practice Week 14, while Smith looks like a true game-time decision. That signals that an official decision on the Seahawks' starting quarterback may not be announced until 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff, when the team's inactive list is released. If Lock is indeed called upon to start Sunday, it will be his first start since joining Seattle in a trade from Denver back in March of 2022.
Dec 8, 2023
Could be needed for spot start
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll suggested after Friday's practice that Lock could start Sunday's game against the 49ers with Geno Smith (groin) listed as questionable and being labeled as a game-time decision, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports. "He's been waiting for this opportunity. If this comes to pass he is as ready as he's going to get," Carroll said of Lock.
ANALYSIS
Smith's groin injury cropped up during Thursday's practice, when the quarterback "stumbled over somebody," Carroll relayed to Bell. Carroll went on to note that Smith was rested at Friday's practice, but the Seahawks are seemingly still hopeful that their usual starting signal-caller will be able to play Sunday. If Smith is unable to show enough improvement ahead of Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff, however, Lock has kept himself prepared to make what would be his first start for Seattle since he was acquired from Denver as part of the March 2022 deal that sent Russell Wilson to the Broncos. Lock has thus far been limited to just two relief appearances through his one-plus seasons in Seattle, completing four of 12 pass attempts for 66 yards and an interception.
Nov 20, 2023
Ineffective in relief showing
Lock completed two of six passes for three yards and an interception in the 17-16 loss to the Rams on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Geno Smith exited the game late in the third quarter after taking a hard hit from Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Lock entered the game in relief but was unable to get the offense moving, completing his two full drives with a three-and-out and an interception. Smith eventually returned to the game for the final drive, which ended in a Jason Myers missed field goal. The Seahawks play again Thursday versus the 49ers. According to Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune, head coach Pete Carroll expects Smith to be ready. If Smith is unable to go, Lock will start in the daunting divisional matchup.
Oct 15, 2023
Good to go Sunday
Lock (ankle) is active for Sunday's contest against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks added Holton Ahlers to the practice squad Thursday in case Lock couldn't suit up. Lock missed practice Thursday with an ankle injury but he'll serve as the backup quarterback behind Geno Smith for Sunday's game.
Oct 13, 2023
Questionable to face Bengals
Lock (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's Week 6 game against the Bengals, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was a mid-week addition to the injury report, failing to practice Thursday. If Lock is unable to suit up as Geno Smith's backup Sunday, Holton Ahlers will likely be elevated from the practice squad.
Oct 12, 2023
Misses practice Thursday
Lock (ankle) did not participate in practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Seattle's backup quarterback was not listed on the injury report Wednesday. The Seahawks also signed undrafted free agent Holton Ahlers to the practice squad Thursday. Lock has appeared in one game this season in relief of starter Geno Smith.
Oct 3, 2023
Short relief stint Monday
Lock completed two of six passes for 63 yards in Monday's 24-3 win over the Giants. He also rushed once for 11 yards.
ANALYSIS
Lock closed out the second quarter after Geno Smith left briefly with a knee injury. This was his first regular-season action with the Seahawks. While his completion percentage was ugly, his night featured a short completion to Noah Fant, who raced down the right sideline for a 51-yard pickup. Smith finished the game and should be ready to go following the Seahawks' Week 5 bye, but it's worth monitoring in superflex leagues.
Aug 26, 2023
Plays well to finish preseason
Lock completed 16 of 25 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 19-15 preseason loss to Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks held out their starters and let Lock play most of the game before handing things over to Holton Ahlers late in the second half. There were no signs of Lock struggling with the knee injury he suffered a week prior, and he's locked in as the No. 2 QB in Seattle heading into a Week 1 matchup with the Rams.
Aug 20, 2023
Suffers injury
Lock left Saturday's preseason contest against the Cowboys early due to a knee injury, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock stated, "It's good. It'll be alright. I think it was just a precautionary thing," after the game. With the veteran locked into the team's No. 2 role behind starter Geno Smith, it makes sense the team wouldn't bother pushing him and risking anything further. Head coach Pete Carroll added, "It sounds like he's going to be fine after the evaluation. He got a little bit of a strain in the back of his knee, it got hyperextended a little bit, but there's no damage, so they think that he'll play next week."
Aug 11, 2023
Throws two TDs in three quarters
Lock completed 17 of 24 passes for 191 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Thursday's 24-13 preseason win over the Vikings. He added three rushing attempts for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
After a quiet first quarter, Lock heated up in the second, leading a six-play, 59-yard touchdown drive that he capped with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Easop Winston. He stayed in the game for the third quarter, during which Lock threw an interception and a 19-yard touchdown pass to Jake Bobo. Undrafted rookie Holton Ahlers replaced Lock for the fourth quarter. Lock's the prohibitive favorite to beat out Ahlers for the backup spot behind Geno Smith, and the former Denver quarterback is likely to play the majority of snaps again in Seattle's second preseason game, Aug. 19 against the Cowboys.
Mar 16, 2023
Returning to Seattle
The Seahawks and Lock agreed to terms on a one-year contract Thursday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Seattle thus will operate with the same quarterback room from last season in the upcoming campaign, only with no competition in store after the impressive campaign put together by starter Geno Smith, who inked a three-year, $105 million extension in early March. Lock didn't see the field at all in 2022, but he'll at least be veteran insurance in the event Smith has to miss any time in the fall.
Jan 16, 2023
Never plays in 2022
Lock didn't play an offensive snap during the 2022 season.
ANALYSIS
Lock lost a close battle with Geno Smith for the starting job during training camp. Smith left no doubt with his performance in the regular season with 4,282 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Lock will be a free agent in March, and it's uncertain whether he'll stay with the team. He's still a credible backup quarterback, but his chances of starting in Seattle are slim, even if Smith ends up leaving in free agency.
Aug 27, 2022
Loses job battle with Smith
Lock will begin the 2022 season as the Seahawks' backup quarterback after coach Pete Carroll announced Geno Smith as the team's Week 1 starter following Friday's preseason loss at Dallas, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock only had two opportunities during exhibition season due to a positive test for COVID-19, missing preseason Week 2 in the process. But he was up and down in his two chances, completing 24 of 39 passes for 273 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions, rushing three times for seven yards and taking two sacks in close to six quarters of action. Ultimately, Smith's experience in the system (and likely his availability) won out in the end, and Lock now will be holding a clipboard to kick off his first year in Seattle.
Aug 23, 2022
Still has shot at starting job
Coach Pete Carroll said the competition between Lock and Geno Smith is even, adding that Lock will get a lot of snaps in the preseason finale Friday against Dallas, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was scheduled to start the second preseason game last Thursday against Chicago before he tested positive for COVID-19. He returned to practice over the weekend and should now get a bunch of snaps for the second time this preseason, having previously gone 11-of-15 passing for 102 yards and two TDs in the Seattle's preseason opener. Smith also played well in the initial preseason game, but in the second contest he failed to produce any points on seven drives.
Aug 21, 2022
Hefty role on tap Friday
Coach Pete Carroll intends for Lock to play "a lot" in Friday's preseason finale against the Cowboys, Brady Henderson of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock missed the team's previous preseason game due to COVID-19, but he should get a chance to make up for lost time with plenty of playing time Friday. Carroll added that the team is unlikely to decide on a starting quarterback between Lock and Geno Smith (knee) until closer to the regular season. Still, a strong performance Friday would go a long way in helping Lock make his case for the Week 1 starting job.
Aug 21, 2022
Back at practice
Lock (illness) returned to practice Sunday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock sat out this past Thursday's preseason game (which he had been in line to start) against the Bears after testing positive for COVID-19, but he's back on the field Sunday and is thus a candidate to start this coming Friday's preseason finale against the Cowboys. At this stage, the Seahawks' unofficial posted depth chart lists Geno Smith (knee bruise) ahead of Lock, but the team has yet to announce which of the two QBs is slated to start Seattle's regular season opener against the Broncos on Sept. 12.
Aug 16, 2022
Will not play Thursday
Lock will not play in Thursday's preseason matchup with the Bears after testing positive for COVID-19, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
This is unfortunate timing for Lock, as he handled all of the first-team reps at practice Tuesday and was slated to draw the start against Chicago. While coach Pete Carroll maintains that Geno Smith is the team's No. 1 quarterback, the starting opportunity would have been a chance for Lock to make an impression. He will now have to wait until he's cleared to return to practice in order to prepare for his next chance to see game action, which would be the Seahawks' preseason finale on Aug. 26. In his absence, Smith and Jacob Eason are the lone healthy quarterbacks on the Seahawks' roster.
Aug 16, 2022
Starting Thursday
Coach Pete Carroll announced Lock will start Thursday's preseason game against the Bears, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
For the first time since training camp opened, Lock handled all of the first-team reps at practice Tuesday, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. Afterward, Carroll told Condotta the development was part of the plan for the Seahawks' quarterback competition but reiterated that Geno Smith remains the team's No. 1 quarterback. It's unclear how much run Lock will get with the starters Thursday, but if the breakdown is similar to preseason Week 1, he may play one half before handing the offense over to Smith.
Aug 13, 2022
Throws for two touchdowns in loss
Lock completed 11 of 15 pass attempts for 102 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing once for three yards during Saturday's 32-25 preseason loss to Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old has made strides in practice over the last few days, and coach Pete Carroll recently said that Lock will get more reps with the first-team offense in the near future. Lock played the second half during Saturday's preseason opener and accounted for the team's only two passing touchdowns during the narrow loss. Although Lock played well Saturday, Geno Smith also had an impressive performance, completing 10 of 15 pass attempts for 101 yards while rushing for a touchdown. Smith still appears to be the frontrunner for the starting job at quarterback in Seattle, but Lock has closed the gap recently.
Aug 10, 2022
Getting more first-team reps
Head coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday that Lock will get more reps with the first-team offense, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Carroll gave Geno Smith every chance to run away with the starting job, but Smith -- who has taken most of the reps with the starting offense during training camp -- has struggled and Lock has shown enough flashes to make this a true competition. In turn, Carrol intends rotate between Lock and Smith with the first-team offense so that whoever wins the job will have familiarity with star receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Smith will start in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers, but we should expect both quarterbacks to get some reps with the starters, although it's unclear how much Metcalf and Lockett will play in the exhibition.
Aug 7, 2022
Outplays Smith in team scrimmage
Lock completed 18 of 27 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's team scrimmage, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock spent four of five offensive drives with the second-team offense where he played against the first-team defense. On the other side of the competition, Geno Smith handled nearly all the first-team reps on offense where he battled against the second-team defense. Smith completed 10 of 19 passes for 94 yards. Lock had the inferior supporting cast and played against better competition, but he managed to put up better numbers anyway, although those numbers were mediocre. Head coach Pete Carroll didn't make any judgements following the scrimmage, but Lock may have the edge heading into the preseason, which starts next Saturday against the Steelers.
Jul 28, 2022
Getting second-team reps
Lock played with the second-team offense during Wednesday's practice, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Pete Carroll believes Lock still has a chance to win the starting job over Geno Smith, who is heading into his fourth season with the Seahawks. Carroll stated earlier in the offseason that Smith's knowledge of the system gives him an edge in the competition. However, Lock has enough tools relative to Smith to make this competition extend through the final preseason game. Through three seasons in the league, Lock has completed 59.3 percent of his passes for 4,740 yards (6.7 YPA), 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
Jun 9, 2022
Still trailing in QB competition
Head coach Pete Carroll said Thursday that Lock is trailing Geno Smith in the quarterback competition following this week's mandatory minicamp, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Carroll also stated that Lock isn't too far behind and will have a good chance to claim the starting job during training camp and the preseason. Smith's main edge comes from his knowledge of the system after three years with the team. Neither quarterback has proven to be effective for long stretches in the NFL, but Lock is certainly capable of getting hot during the preseason and winning the job for Week 1.
May 1, 2022
Survives draft day
Lock is expected to compete with Geno Smith and Jacob Eason for the starting quarterback job after the Seahawks didn't select a quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
There was only one quarterback drafted in the first 73 picks, and despite having four picks in that stretch, the Seahawks opted to upgrade their offensive line and add a high-end running back and edge rusher. That's good news for Lock, who was part of the trade package that the Seahawks received for Russell Wilson. Lock has a big arm but was mediocre over 24 games (21 starts) with the Broncos over the last three years, completing 59.3 percent of his passes for 4,740 yards (6.7 YPA), 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He also ran for 285 yards and five scores. Unless the Seahawks bring in Baker Mayfield via trade or a veteran in free agency, the main competition in training camp will be between Lock and Smith while Eason makes a longshot bid.
Mar 8, 2022
Sent to Seattle
The Broncos dealt Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive end Shelby Harris and five draft picks to the Seahawks for Russell Wilson and a fourth-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A 2019 second-rounder, Lock has struggled when he's stepped foot on the field, completing 59.3 percent of his passes for 4,740 yards, 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in 24 appearances while compiling an 8-13 record as a starter. Once the trade is on the books, Lock and Jacob Eason will be the only signal-callers on Seattle's roster, meaning the team likely will continue to tinker with the QB room as the offseason goes on.
Jan 8, 2022
Mixed bag in finale
Lock completed 12 of 24 passes for 162 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Broncos' 28-24 loss to the Chiefs on Saturday. He also rushed four times for 35 yards and two scores.
ANALYSIS
Lock authored a pair of impressive first-half scoring drives of 67 and 80 drives, finishing off the marches with rushing touchdowns of five and 23 yards, respectively. Those would prove to be the highlight of a pedestrian passing performance in particular, one that saw him complete just 50.0 percent of his throws and fail to manufacture enough impact plays in the second half. Lock was merely average while starting the last three games of the season in place of Teddy Bridgewater (IR-concussion), and with the latter heading into unrestricted free agency, it's possible Lock, who's signed through next season, is very much in the running to reclaim the starting quarterback job in 2022.
Jan 6, 2022
Avoids designation for finale
Lock (shoulder) practiced fully Thursday and doesn't have an injury designation for Saturday's game against the Chiefs, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock is set to make his third consecutive start this weekend while the Broncos close their season without Teddy Bridgewater, who wasn't able to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol before being moved to injured reserve Wednesday. Brett Rypien will serve as the backup to Lock, who has completed 33 of 47 attempts (70.2 percent) for 398 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions over the past two weeks. Though Lock has done a good job playing mistake-free football of late, expect Denver to once again lean heavily on a low-tempo ground-heavy game plan that will likely limit his overall passing volume.
Jan 5, 2022
Limited at practice
Lock (shoulder) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) on IR, Lock is expected to start Saturday's game against Kansas City. Thursday's injury report will reveal whether the QB heads in the weekend with an injury designation or fully cleared to play in Denver's season finale.
Jan 5, 2022
On track to start Saturday
With Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) on IR, per Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site, Lock (shoulder) is expected to start Saturday's game against Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Lock was listed as a limited practice participant Tuesday, but barring a setback, his shoulder injury isn't expected to impact his Week 18 availability. However, the QB will likely need to practice fully in the next couple of days in order to head into the contest minus an injury designation.
Jan 4, 2022
Limited to begin Week 18 prep
Denver listed Lock as a limited participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report due to a right shoulder injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock suffered the injury in the first half of last week's 34-13 loss to the Chargers, but he missed only one series before finishing the day with 18 completions for 245 yards and a touchdown on 25 attempts. The signal-caller's ability to return to the contest suggests that his estimated limitations two days after the game are likely just maintenance-related. Assuming he upgrades to full activity by Thursday, Lock will be in line to make his third straight start Saturday against the Chiefs, as head coach Vic Fangio already told the media Monday that he's planning on having the 25-year-old direct the offense once again since Teddy Bridgewater has yet to resume practicing since entering the concussion protocol Dec. 19. Brett Rypien, who made a brief cameo in relief in Week 17, is on track to serve as Lock's backup in the season finale.
Jan 3, 2022
Expected to start Saturday
Lock (shoulder) is expected to start Saturday's game against the Chiefs, Ben Swanson of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Teddy Bridgewater remains in the concussion protocol and signaled that Lock is in line to start if Bridgewater is unavailable. The 2019 second-rounder briefly exited Sunday's loss to the Chargers in the first half due to a shoulder injury but was able to return to the field. Lock said after the game that he didn't think the injury impacted his play much, but the team will likely monitor his health in practice ahead of Saturday's regular-season finale. If Lock wouldn't be able to play, Brett Rypien would be next in line to start.
Jan 2, 2022
Efficient in Sunday's loss
Lock completed 18 of 25 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-13 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
It was a better performance than Lock managed last week against the Raiders, but the end result was the same for the Broncos. His lone touchdown pass, a five-yard toss to Noah Fant, came in the fourth quarter after the game was well out of reach. Lock briefly went to the locker room with a shoulder injury but was able to return after getting a shot in the shoulder, Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports reports. Depending on the health of his shoulder and Teddy Bridgewater's progress from his concussion, Lock may have to make the start in Denver's final game of the season, Week 18 against Kansas City.
Jan 2, 2022
Returns to game
Lock was able to return to Sunday's game against the Chargers after having left the contest due to a shoulder issue.
ANALYSIS
The QB was out long enough for Brett Rypien to attempt two passes in his absence, but in his first play back Lock connected with wideout Courtland Sutton for a 44-yard gain.
Jan 2, 2022
Hurts shoulder Sunday
Lock exited Sunday's game against the Chargers after suffering a shoulder injury.

With Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) out this week, Lock was replaced at QB by Brett Rypien. Prior to his departure from the contest, Lock completed 2-of-5 passing attempts for 15 yards and ran once for six yards.
Dec 31, 2021
Filling in for Bridgewater again
With Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) having been ruled out, Lock is slated to start Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
In that context, Lock is an option for those in two-QB formats or who are scrambling for a Week 17 signal caller for any reason. However, with wideouts Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick on the reserve/COVID-19 list and Courtland Sutton (illness) questionable for the contest, Lock figures to be working with a depleted pass-catching corps Sunday, which doesn't help his fantasy prospects.
Dec 30, 2021
Listed as full practice participant
Lock (ankle) was listed as a full participant on Thursday's practice estimate, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, fellow signal caller Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) was listed as a non-participant. At this stage, it seems plausible that come Friday Bridgewater will be ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers. In that case, Lock would be in line to draw his second straight start at QB this weekend.
Dec 29, 2021
Logs limited practice
Though Lock was limited in practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury, Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post indicates that all signs continue to point to the QB starting Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
At this stage, fellow signal caller Teddy Bridgewater, who suffered a concussion on back on Dec. 18, remains in the NFL's concussion protocol and Lock is trending toward his second straight start for the Broncos, in spite of the ankle issue that popped up on Wednesday's injury report.
Dec 29, 2021
Trending toward Week 17 start
Lock is expected to remain Denver's starting QB for Sunday's game against the Chargers, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, fellow signal caller Teddy Bridgewater remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, with Rapoport indicating that the Broncos won't rush him back. In his first start of the season, while subbing for Bridgewater, Lock completed 15 of 22 passes for 153 yards in this past weekend's 17-13 loss to the Raiders.
Dec 26, 2021
Does little in loss
Lock completed 15 of 22 passes for 153 yards in Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Raiders. He also added 10 yards on two carries.
ANALYSIS
The Las Vegas defense stacked the box to stop the run and dared Lock to beat them, and the third-year QB wasn't able to answer the challenge. Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) hasn't yet been ruled out for a Week 17 clash with the Chargers, but if Lock does get another start he'll need to be much better to keep the Broncos' fading playoff hopes alive.
Dec 22, 2021
Starting this week
Lock will start Sunday's game against the Raiders, after Broncos coach Vic Fangio ruled out Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) on Wednesday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While yet to make a start, Lock has appeared in three games this season, each time reminding the Broncos why he's a backup. He's completed 22 of 40 passes for 227 yards (5.7 YPA) this season, with one touchdown, three turnovers and five sacks. Lock does have a stronger arm than Bridgewater, but poor accuracy means the 25-year-old is unlikely to turn things around for Denver's talented-but-slumping WR group.
Dec 20, 2021
Likely starting in Week 16
Lock will likely serve as the starter Sunday against the Raiders, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Although Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) is feeling better Monday, coach Vic Fangio said that the 29-year-old is "highly unlikely" to play in Week 16. Fangio also confirmed that Lock will serve as the starting quarterback if Bridgewater is ultimately sidelined. The 2019 second-rounder had lackluster results in relief of Bridgewater on Sunday and completed six of 12 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.
Dec 19, 2021
Throws touchdown in relief
Lock completed of six of his 12 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Lock entered the game early in the third quarter after Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) exited with an apparent head injury. He immediately led the Broncos to the end zone, finding Tim Patrick for a 25-yard score. Lock was also able to move the offense at a decent clip from that point on, though he turned the ball over on a fumble deep in Cincinnati territory -- costing Denver a chance to go ahead in the game -- early in the final quarter. As has been the case throughout his professional career, Lock was plagued by inconsistency and that should be expected to continue if he takes over under center for a Week 16 matchup against Las Vegas.
Nov 28, 2021
Throws pick in relief
Lock completed four of seven passes for 26 yards with an interception in Sunday's 28-13 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Teddy Bridgewater limped off the field in the first half with a shin injury, forcing Lock into the game, and the 25-year-old's most notable play came when he was picked off by Derwin James. Bridgewater returned after the half, however, putting Denver's No. 2 QB back on the sidelines. It was Lock's first action since Week 4, and on 26 attempts this season he has a 0:2 TD:INT, making it clear why he lost a preseason job battle with Bridgewater.
Nov 20, 2021
Activated by Denver
Lock (illness) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list by the Broncos on Saturday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was unable to suit up for two consecutive games after he tested positive for COVID-19 in early November. However, he's now cleared the league's health and safety protocols and should be able to return to practice ahead of the Broncos' Week 12 matchup against the Chargers. The 25-year-old should reclaim his role as the No. 2 quarterback behind Teddy Bridgewater.
Nov 7, 2021
Tests positive for virus
Lock's placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list prior to Sunday's game against the Cowboys was the result of a positive test for the virus, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Klis, Lock learned Saturday that a non-team-related close contact had tested positive for the virus, and the quarterback was subsequently deemed positive himself after undergoing tests late Saturday and early Sunday. Fortunately for Denver, top signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater wasn't placed in the protocol after testing negative Sunday, clearing the way for him to start against Dallas, while No. 3 quarterback Brett Rypien serves as his backup. Since Lock is vaccinated, he'll be eligible to rejoin the Broncos whenever he's asymptomatic and tests negative on two occasions at least 24 hours apart. He'll thus have a chance at being ready to reclaim backup duties for the Broncos' next game Nov. 14 against the Eagles.
Nov 7, 2021
Out Sunday due COVID-19 protocols
The Broncos placed Lock on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Lock becomes the third Broncos player to be ruled out for Week 9 due to COVID-19 protocols, joining tight end Noah Fant and guard Netane Muti. Both Fant and Muti were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list as a result of positive tests of the virus, but it's unclear if Lock also tested positive or if he was merely ruled out as a close contact of an infected person or persons. In any case, Brett Rypien will step in as the backup to starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater with Lock out Sunday.
Oct 3, 2021
Shaky in relief Sunday
Lock completed 12 of 21 passes for 113 yards and an interception in Sunday's 23-7 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Teddy Bridgewater got knocked out of the game late in the second quarter with a concussion, but Lock had little luck moving the offense when he took over in the second half. If Bridgewater is forced to miss additional time, Lock would at least get a full week of practice to prepare for a Week 5 tilt in Pittsburgh, but there would be little reason to expect a much better performance given his track record.
Aug 25, 2021
Loses battle to Bridgewater
Lock will enter Week 1 as Denver's backup quarterback, with coach Vic Fangio naming Teddy Bridgewater as the starter, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
An impressive preseason wasn't enough for Lock to keep his job, in part because Bridgewater also put up good numbers. Lock, a 2019 second-round pick, now slides into a backup role for the beginning of his third NFL season. It won't come as any surprise if he starts games before the end of the year, though Bridgewater theoretically has enough talent around him in Denver to win games and keep the job even if his own performance is merely average.
Aug 22, 2021
Uneven performance Saturday
Lock entered Saturday's 30-3 preseason win over the Seahawks with 8:43 remaining in the second quarter and completed nine of 14 passes for 80 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also rushed once for no gain and and recovered two of his own fumbles.
ANALYSIS
After getting the starting nod against the Vikings in preseason Week 1, Lock ceded that opportunity to Teddy Bridgewater on Saturday. Bridgewater performed well while getting an opportunity to play with some first-unit skill players, while Lock's performance was unsurprisingly a bit rockier and also saw him take two sacks. With only one preseason game remaining and head coach Vic Fangio unlikely to risk the health of his starting offense, the on-field job auditions of Lock and Bridgewater may have essentially come to an end, with a decision likely to stem from what each has put on film in camp and over the first two preseason contests.
Aug 19, 2021
Could win job with big night?
Lock might be able to win the starting quarterback job with a strong performance in Saturday's preseason game against Seattle, according to Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com.
ANALYSIS
Lock has some buzz after throwing for 151 yards and two touchdowns on three drives in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings. Then again, Teddy Bridgewater also played well -- 7-of-8 for 74 yards and a TD -- and head coach Vic Fangio has consistently called it a close competition. Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur may have dropped a hint Thursday afternoon, noting that Lock "just needs to play well and continue on the right path. We've seen the improvement. We've seen a young player get better with an offseason and with a training camp." Lock may have nudged ahead, but it seems the Broncos will stick with their original plan of having Bridgewater start the second preseason game, facing the Seahawks this weekend.
Aug 14, 2021
Lights up Vikings
Lock completed five of his seven pass attempts for 151 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Lock drew the start in the Broncos' first preseason game and didn't waste his opportunity to impress the coaching staff. He completed an 80-yard touchdown down the middle of the field to K.J. Hamler on the first play of the second drive. On the next possession, Lock lead a 10-play, 85 yard touchdown drive that was highlighted by a 33-yard completion to Jerry Jeudy and a four-yard touchdown toss to Trinity Benson. Though he remains in a quarterback competition, Lock impressed in his opening chance this preseason.
Aug 10, 2021
Getting starting nod Saturday
Coach Vic Fangio said Lock will start Saturday's preseason game at Minnesota, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Just like he took the initial snap of training camp with the first-team offense, Lock will do the same as the Broncos open their exhibition slate. In the next breath, though, Fangio relayed Teddy Bridgewater, Lock's competition for the starting QB role in Denver, will be under center with the starters in preseason Week 2 in Seattle. Clearly, Fangio is sticking to his word that Lock and Bridgewater will split the first-team reps from the beginning of camp until Fangio makes a decision before Week 1.
Aug 2, 2021
No leader yet in QB competition
Neither Lock nor Bridgewater is leading in the competition to be the Broncos' starting quarterback in 2021, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports. "Still even Steven," said coach Vic Fangio on Monday. "There's been no separation. We're going to keep the rotation these next three days the way it's been."
ANALYSIS
Lock handled the initial offensive snap on the first practice of training camp last Wednesday, but he and Bridgewater proceeded to split those reps in ensuing sessions. As intimated by Fangio, who previously said in the offseason that the breakdown would be "50-50" between the pair, the status quo will reign for the foreseeable future, likely in both practice and during the preseason when the No. 1 offense is on the field. Lock hasn't exactly lit it up since the Broncos selected him in the second round of the 2019 draft, completing 59 percent of his passes, averaging 219.6 yards per game and putting together a 23:18 TD:INT in 18 starts. Meanwhile, Bridgewater is more of a game manager, so it'll be interesting to see if the Broncos opt for upside or stability under center this fall.
Jul 27, 2021
Scheduled for first rep Wednesday
Lock will get the first rep of training camp, but Broncos coach Vic Fangio said Teddy Bridgewater will get just as much work with the starters, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
While the split won't be even each day, Fangio said he's aiming for 50/50 overall, making it a truly equal competition. Bridgewater has more NFL experience and a better track record as a starter, while Lock has the advantage of scheme familiarity with holdover OC Pat Shurmur, in addition to superior arm strength and mobility. Bridgewater does also have some level of familiarity with Shurmur, whose time with the Vikings coincided with the quarterback's severe knee injury and subsequent rehab. The QB spot now looms as Denver's biggest issue at the start of training camp, with the roster otherwise appearing playoff-caliber.

To battle Bridgewater for job
Coach Vic Fangio said Lock and recent acquisition Teddy Bridgewater will split reps "50-50" during the offseason program and training camp, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
After making no additions to the quarterback room during the draft, the Broncos have settled on a Lock-Bridgewater battle under center. Lock has had a rocky and banged-up first two years in the NFL, completing 59.1 percent of his passes for 3,953 yards, 23 touchdowns and 18 interceptions through 18 starts. He even tied Carson Wentz for the league lead with 15 picks during the 2020 season. Denver invested the 42nd overall pick in the 2019 draft in Lock, but they may want to see what the less flashy but steadier Bridgewater can do with the offense.
Apr 28, 2021
Facing competition from Bridgewater
New Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater is expected to challenge Lock for the starting job, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It was probably never realistic for Lock to make it through the offseason without the Broncos adding some competition, be it in the form of a rookie or veteran. He could still end up facing both, though it might be argued that Wednesday's trade for Bridgewater decreases the odds of Denver picking a QB in the early rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft. Either way, Lock will need to compete for a starting job this summer.

Receives nod from GM
Broncos general manager George Paton said of Lock and the team's quarterback situation, "We're always going to bring in competition at every position, quarterback as well, but I like the track Drew's on," Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Broncos made an attempt to trade for former Lions' signal-caller Matthew Stafford in February, according to James Palmer of NFL Network. Such a development renders Lock's status atop the quarterback depth chart as tentative; but Paton has been publicly upbeat about Lock, stating that he has "all the traits you look for in a quarterback." The 24-year-old was tied for an NFL-worst 15 interceptions thrown during the 2020 campaign, while the Broncos QB position as a whole posted bottom-two finishes in both completion rate (54 percent) and passer rating (72.5). Lock composed a much-improved 7:2 TD:INT Weeks 14 through 17, but Denver went just 1-3 in those games.
Jan 12, 2021
Completes sophomore slump
Lock finished the season having completed 254 of 443 passes for 2,933 yards, 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He added 160 yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries.
ANALYSIS
Lock showed promise during his five-game audition in 2019 only to finish 2020 by providing little additional clarity as to whether he can be Denver's quarterback of the future. There are potential explanations abound: a truncated offseason, new scheme, lost star receiver in Courtland Sutton and very young supporting cast. Still, when Lock tossed some passes up for grabs deep down field rather than take the underneath throw or use his legs, those excuses largely went out the window. There is some reason for optimism, including the fact that Lock's two best statistical performances came during his final four games of the year, but it'd be a shock if Denver doesn't at least try to hedge its bet this offseason. That decision will likely come from the to-be-named general manager, who may or may not have been high on Lock coming out of the 2019 draft.

Has fate in new GM's hands
Though head coach Vic Fangio is safe, general manager John Elway's decision to move to a new role within the team and hire a new general manger may affect Lock's future, Benjamin Allbright of KOA News Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
As Allbright notes, Elway was inclined to give Lock a third season to prove that he's the team's answer at quarterback. Now, a new general manger -- presumably one without any ties to the Missouri product -- will head into the offseason with the ninth overall pick and some potential veteran options on the market. Lock, playing in a new offense and with a very young supporting cast, showed strides during Denver's final six games even though the stat line seldom looked pretty. During that span, he completed 60 percent of his passes for 1,436 yards, nine touchdowns, five interceptions and another touchdown on the ground. Still, that improvement amounted to a quarterback rating of 85.7, which -- extrapolated over the course of the season -- would have ranked 27th among qualifying quarterbacks.
Jan 4, 2021
Big day in losing effort
Lock completed 25 of 41 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 32-31 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
He also added seven rushing yards on two carries. Lock set a new season high in passing yards in the season's final game, and avoiding committing a turnover for the first time since Week 1, but his overall numbers on the campaign were still mediocre at best as he finished with a completion rate of under 60 percent, a 6.8 YPA and a 16:15 TD:INT through 13 games. With the Broncos holding the ninth overall pick in what is shaping up to be a loaded quarterback draft class in 2021, Lock may have missed his opportunity to establish himself as the team's QB of the future.
Dec 27, 2020
Two more picks in Sunday's loss
Lock completed 24 of 47 passes for 264 yards and two interceptions while adding 15 rushing yards and a touchdown on five carries in Sunday's 19-16 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
While the second INT came on a hail mary at the end of the game, the first came in the red zone on the Broncos' first possession, as Lock's decision-making once again proved to be questionable. The second-year quarterback is back to being underwater on the season with a 14:15 TD:INT, and his lack of development this year could encourage the Denver front office to select another QB in next year's draft with what could be a top-10 pick. Lock and the Broncos will close out a disappointing campaign by hosting the Raiders in Week 17.
Dec 19, 2020
Coughs up another costly fumble
Lock completed 20 of 32 pass attempts for 132 yards and one touchdown, adding five rushes for 37 yards with one lost fumble during Saturday's 48-19 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
The sophomore signal-caller committed a lost fumble for a second game, with Saturday's instance resulting in a 25-yard scoop-and-score for Buffalo's Jerry Hughes. Denver's offense has committed a turnover in 14 consecutive games, as Lock's 13 interceptions stand behind only Carson Wentz for the 2020 league high. Despite Lock posting a career-best 149.5 passer rating last Sunday in a win over Carolina, questions regarding his future with the team may extend into the offseason given yet another turbulent outing during Week 15. He'll have a chance to relive one of his shining achievements of the season in the Broncos' next matchup, facing a Chargers team against which he and Denver overcame a 24-3 deficit to secure a Week 8 win.
Dec 13, 2020
Enjoys sterling passing day
Lock completed 21 of 27 pass attempts for 280 yards and four touchdowns, adding four yards over six carries while losing a fumble during Sunday's 32-27 win against Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Lock's second-quarter fumble led to a Panthers TD two plays later, but he otherwise enjoyed his most impressive statistical outing of 2020. Not once all season entering Sunday had the sophomore signal-caller thrown multiple TDs without committing an interception, while 280 passing yards marked Lock's second-greatest total of the year. With Carson Wentz being the only player to rank higher on the dubious INTs-committed list entering Week 14, an improvement in the giveaway category is encouraging from the young Lock. He now prepares to face Buffalo on a short week, with the Broncos hosting the Bills on Saturday at 4:30 PM EST.
Dec 7, 2020
Falls short on SNF
Lock (undisclosed) completed 15 of 28 pass attempts for 151 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 22-16 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Lock returned from a precautionary one-week absence that resulted in all three of the Broncos' quarterbacks on the 53-man roster sitting out Week 12 entirely. The enigmatic franchise quarterback appeared to be cool and collected on the road as a two-score underdog, leading his team to a halftime lead against the Chiefs with a little help from his defense. The 24-year-old even had a chance to win the contest in the closing moments until reality reared its ugly head and saw him throw his second interception to Tyrann Mathieu in narrow defeat. It should still be considered a step in the right direction, as overcoming expectations is not an easy thing to do at the professional level and also in the national spotlight. From a fantasy perspective, Lock simply isn't the prospect GM John Elway hoped he would be, as he has regressed to a 55 percent completion rate and a negative TD-to-INT ratio in his sophomore campaign. Aside from 2QB formats, there should be a better option available for fantasy managers heading int

Back from COVID-19 list
The Broncos activated Lock (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was placed on the list after the entire Broncos quarterback room was deemed to be high-risk close contacts of Jeff Driskel, who tested positive for COVID-19 last Thursday. All of Lock, Brett Rypien and practice-squad member Blake Bortles were ineligible to play this past Sunday against the Saints, leaving QB in the hands of wide receiver Kendall Hinton. With Lock back in the building, he'll be under center for Denver's next game Sunday night at Kansas City.
Nov 29, 2020
Out Week 12, but COVID negative
Lock continued to test negative for COVID-19 on Sunday, but he'll remain ineligible to play in the Broncos' Week 12 game against the Saints after being deemed a high-risk close contact of No. 3 quarterback Jeff Driskel, who tested positive Thursday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Along with Lock, top backup Brett Rypien and practice squad quarterback Blake Bortles were also added to the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, leaving all three players ineligible to play Sunday. According to Renck, Rypien and Bortles also remain negative for the coronavirus, so all three likely would have cleared the NFL's COVID-19 protocols by Tuesday had the league chosen to move the game back two days like the Broncos requested. Instead, the game will be held Sunday as originally scheduled, forcing Denver to turn to practice squad receiver Kendall Hinton -- who previously played quarterback early in his college career at Wake Forest -- as its starting signal-caller in his NFL debut. Assuming he continues to test negative, Lock should check back into the lineup for the Broncos' Week 13 matchup with the Chiefs on Dec. 6.
Nov 28, 2020
Unavailable for Sunday's game
Lock will be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list and is ineligible to play Sunday against the Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Schefter relayed that Lock, Brett Rypien and Jeff Driskel were all considered high-risk close contacts to an infected person. None were wearing masks at that time. In turn, they won't be available.
Nov 28, 2020
Pulled from practice
Lock was pulled from practice Saturday out of abundance of caution stemming from Jeff Driskel's positive COVID-19 test Thursday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Klis goes on to suggest that Lock, along with backups Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles (on practice squad), were all pulled from Saturday's practice in an effort to maintain NFL protocols regarding COVID-19 contract tracing. All players have been repeatedly tested since Driskel's positive test and every test has come back negative, reinforcing the fact each player has been asymptomatic. Considering the Broncos seem to be taking all the necessary precautions, it seems as if fantasy managers should feel comfortable relying on Lock come Sunday, but it still might be worth checking in on his status closer to the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff.
Nov 22, 2020
Quiet performance in win
Lock completed 18 of 30 passes for 270 yards and an interception in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Dolphins. He also gained 23 rushing yards on two carries.
ANALYSIS
It was another poor fantasy performance from Lock, who got picked off for the sixth straight game and has a 6:11 TD:INT over that stretch, but the Denver pass rush ended up shutting down Miami's offense and didn't need much help to get the team in the win column. Lock could be headed for another tepid effort in Week 12 against a Saints defense that just held Matt Ryan and the Falcons to nine points.
Nov 22, 2020
Active as expected Week 11
Lock (ribs) is active for Sunday's Week 11 tilt against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
As expected, the second-year signal-caller will suit up after suffering some bruising and a strain in his rib area during a Week 10 loss to the Raiders. Therefore, Broncos skill-position players should be deployed as usual, although they'll face a surging Dolphins defense that's allowed just 194.5 passing yards per road contest thus far, the second-lowest figure in the AFC.
Nov 21, 2020
Expected starter Sunday
Lock (ribs) is expected to start at quarterback in Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock suffered a "pretty severe strain and bruising" to his ribs in last week's loss to the Raiders, but he battled through it in practice this week and will give it a go Sunday. While he's still officially questionable, Lock is expected to be officially cleared when the Broncos reveal their inactive list 90 minutes before the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff. Brett Rypien will be Lock's primary backup in case he aggravates the injury.
Nov 20, 2020
Listed as questionable for Week 11
Lock (ribs) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Kyle Newman of the Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
While coach Vic Fangio acknowledged that Lock was "a little sore" Friday morning after resuming throwing Thursday, he added that he "didn't see too much altering" in the QB's delivery. As for the chances of Lock -- who's been splitting practice reps with Brett Rypien -- starting this weekend, Fangio noted "we'll see exactly where Drew is so we can make a good decision, hopefully by the end of the day (Saturday), as to who will be the starter." If that's info the team shares Saturday, then we should have a pretty good idea of Lock's Week 11 status in advance of Sunday's 4:05 ET kickoff.
Nov 20, 2020
Likely limited again Friday
Lock (ribs) is expected to be limited at Friday's practice and split QB reps with Brett Rypien, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old is apparently trending in the right direction for Sunday's matchup with the Dolphins, but he isn't expected to significantly increase his practice work in the final practice of the week. Lock seems likely to be considered questionable for Week 11, but his status won't receive official clarity until the injury report is released Friday afternoon.
Nov 19, 2020
Splits QB reps Thursday
Lock (ribs) split QB reps with Brett Rypien during Thursday's practice, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock, who was officially listed as limited Thursday, noted afterward that he felt good while throwing in drills, but fell short of confirming that he'll play Sunday against the Dolphins. "I would like to be (available to play)," Lock said Thursday. "Obviously I'll give my opinion and it's going to be I want to play, but in the end it's not 100 percent up to me what happens." Added clarity with regard to his Week 11 status should arrive no later than Friday after the Broncos trainers and doctors asses the signal-caller following practice.
Nov 19, 2020
Set for limited practice
Lock (ribs) will return to a limited practice Thursday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per James Palmer of NFL Network, Lock -- who didn't practice Wednesday -- is in line to see some reps during the team portion of practice Thursday. While the QB's return to the field bodes well for his chances of suiting up Sunday against the Dolphins, in order to garner the start this weekend, Lock will have to escape practice (both Thursday and Friday) without any setbacks.
Nov 18, 2020
Logs Wednesday DNP
Lock (ribs) didn't practice Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Vic Fangio noted that Lock's ability to play Sunday against the Dolphins figures to depend on a few factors that will be evaluated as the week rolls along, while adding that the team does want the QB to see some practice reps in advance of the weekend. As long as Lock misses or is limited at practice, however, Brett Rypien will continue see added first-team work in his place.
Nov 18, 2020
Could practice later in week
Lock (ribs) isn't "expected to do much, if anything" in practice Wednesday, but the Broncos are hopeful that he'll be able to increase his activity in workouts by the end of the week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Though he played every snap Sunday in the Broncos' 37-12 loss to the Raiders, Lock emerged from the game with a muscle strain and bruising near his ribs. The core injury has prompted the Broncos to label Lock as day-to-day, and Rapoport predicts the signal-caller will be in line for more of a rest day Wednesday as the team begins Week 11 prep. The Broncos' first injury report of the week will reveal whether Lock was a limited or non-participant, but his involvement in practices Thursday and Friday will prove more telling with regard to his status for the game against the Dolphins this weekend. On a positive note, Rapoport notes that Lock is "feeling a lot better" in the days since the Raiders game, but Brett Rypien and Jeff Driskel will be on hand as starting options in the event Lock can't gain clearance for the Week 11 contest.
Nov 17, 2020
Status hazy for Week 11
Lock is dealing with a "pretty severe strain and bruising" to his ribs and is considered day-to-day, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Schefter adds that Lock avoided broken bones, but the Broncos are still uncertain if the 24-year-old quarterback will be ready for this Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Lock was clearly playing through pain in last week's loss to the Raiders, and his performance suffered, as he completed just 49 percent of his passes and threw four picks. It could simply be a matter of pain tolerance yet again, and Lock's practice status Wednesday will be the best indicator of his health. Brett Rypien and Jeff Driskel will prepare to start at quarterback in the event that Lock can't play.

Dealing with muscle strain
Lock is nursing a muscle strain around his ribs, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Vic Fangio has shed doubt on whether Lock will practice Wednesday, according to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com, and Adam Schefter of ESPN has reported that the 24-year-old could be unable to face the Dolphins on Sunday. Even in the event that Lock is forced to miss a week, the fact that he's avoided any broken bones would seem to indicate that his injury isn't a long-term issue. The Broncos have Brett Rypien and Jeff Driskel on hand if a spot start at quarterback is needed.

Could miss Week 11
Lock (ribs) may not be able to suit up against the Dolphins on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock managed to stay on the field for the entirety of Sunday's 37-12 loss to the Raiders despite playing with obvious discomfort, but it sounds like his chances of playing Week 11 are truly up in the air. Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Lock is "pretty sore" and may not practice Wednesday, per Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com. Fangio also said that he wants Lock to "have a good week of preparation" before facing Miami's stout defense, so if the second-year signal-caller is indeed forced to miss significant practice time, Brett Rypien could be in line to start.
Nov 16, 2020
May not practice Wednesday
Coach Vic Fangio called Lock "questionable" to practice Wednesday due to soreness in his ribs, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock showed obvious discomfort during Sunday's 37-12 loss to the Raiders, in which he threw one score and four interceptions, but he manage to play through his injury the entire contest. If the second-year quarterback is unable to practice to begin the week is would apply some doubt to his Week 11 availability, but at this point it doesn't seem like the Broncos consider Lock to be nursing a server injury. Brett Rypien remains on hand as the team's top backup.
Nov 16, 2020
Playing through core issue
Lock played through an oblique/abdomen injury during Sunday's 37-12 loss to the Raiders, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock had a miserable 1:4 TD:INT ratio during Sunday's loss, but it's possible that at least some amount of his performance issues can be blamed on playing through core pain. The second-year signal-caller dealt with obvious discomfort against the Raiders, but the fact that he managed to remain in the game for all four quarters provides reason to be optimistic that he won't be forced to miss time. On the other hand, Lock may need to be at 100 percent Week 11 if he's going to overcome a stalwart Miami secondary led by Xavien Howard (who leads the league in INTs) and Byron Jones.
Nov 15, 2020
Turnover bug continues to bite
Lock completed 23 of 47 pass attempts for 257 yards, throwing one touchdown and committing four interceptions during Sunday's 37-12 loss to the Raiders. He also ran for seven yards on two attempts, fumbling once but recovering the loose ball himself.
ANALYSIS
Lock threw a pair of picks to safety Jeff Heath in the first half, gifting one each to Carl Nassib and Nick Kwiatkoski during the third and four quarters. The sophomore signal-caller avoided committing an INT over his first two starts of the season -- including Week 2 against Pittsburgh when he exited after five attempts due to a right shoulder injury -- but he's now thrown to an abysmal 6:10 TD:INT since making his Week 6 return. He hasn't compensated for the turnovers with explosive downfield throws, eclipsing 255 passing yards in just one game this season while logging 5.7 adjusted yards per attempt. A Week 11 matchup against the Dolphins is less than favorable, after Miami held the usually explosive Justin Herbert to 187 passing yards Sunday.
Nov 8, 2020
Scores three times, but takes loss
Lock went 25-for-48 passing with 313 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, adding seven rushes for 47 yards and an additional score during Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Lock has contributed six touchdowns over his past five quarters of play, though his team has only emerged victorious in one of the two outcomes involved. It is inarguable Lock has been a more explosive passer of late, with a 5:2 TD:INT ratio and 280.5 passing yards per game his past outings. Weeks 1 through 7 Lock posted a combined 1:4 TD:INT, with 219.7 passing yards per outing in the three games he was able to complete during that span. The Missouri product has also pitched in via the ground recently, tallying rushing scores over two of the past three weeks. Upcoming next is a matchup against a Las Vegas defense that surrendered 326 passing yards and a pair of passing scores to the Chargers' Justin Herbert on Sunday.
Nov 1, 2020
Leads comeback win
Lock completed 26 of 41 pass attempts for 248 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Week 8 against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Lock led the Broncos to an impressive comeback victory, tossing all three of his touchdowns in the second half. The effort was capped by a one-yard toss to K.J. Hamler as time ran out in the fourth quarter. Lock also showed rapport with his other primary pass-catchers, connecting with DaeSean Hamilton for a 40-yard touchdown as well as Jerry Jeudy on a 43-yard pass over the middle of the field. This effort was the first time Lock managed to throw multiple touchdown passes in a game this season and was also the first time in three games that he didn't throw multiple interceptions. He'll look to build on this effort in Week 9 at Atlanta.
Oct 25, 2020
Two more picks, this time in loss
Lock went 24-for-40 passing with 254 yards and two interceptions during Sunday's 43-16 loss to the Chiefs. He also registered eight yards on three carries with a rushing score.
ANALYSIS
The second-year signal-caller has struggled in his return from an early-season shoulder injury, throwing to a 53.1 percent completion rate with no passing TDs and four INTs over the past two weeks. Denver's defense did enough last week to cover up the sophomore's errors, forcing three turnovers and allowing just 12 points to New England. Against the defending champions on Sunday, however, the Broncos could not withstand another sloppy effort from the offense. Including Week 1, Lock has one total TD pass in the three games he has been able to complete, while the offense is averaging 16 points per game in those contests.
Oct 18, 2020
Struggles in victorious return
Lock (shoulder) completed 10 of 24 passes for 189 yards and two interceptions in Sunday's 18-12 win over the Patriots. He also registered five rushing attempts for minus-1 yard.
ANALYSIS
Lock found Tim Patrick for a 41-yard gain on his first pass, but things only went downhill from there. He failed to lead the offense into the end zone, settling for six field goals, and Lock's fourth-quarter miscues almost cost his team the game. Denver's final three offensive plays before Lock kneeled out the clock in the final minute were a Lock fumble that he managed to recover followed by back-to-back interceptions. The defense bailed him out and led Denver to its second win, but Lock will need to step things up substantially to give his team a chance against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Week 7.
Oct 18, 2020
Active for Sunday's game
Lock (shoulder) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Lock last suited up on Sept. 20, but the postponement of the Broncos' originally-scheduled Week 5 contest to this Sunday has afforded the second-year signal caller the added time he needed to be ready to return to the lineup following a two-game absence. Lock's return, along with that of running back Phillip Lindsay (toe), helps offset the Week 6 unavailability of leading rusher Melvin Gordon (illness) and top tight end Noah Fant (ankle).
Oct 17, 2020
Expected starter Sunday
Lock (shoulder) is expected to start under center Sunday versus the Patriots, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock's status will become official about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, but he has avoided a setback and is good to go. The 2019 second-round pick was serviceable through the first two games, completing 23 of 24 passes (62 percent) for 236 yards and a touchdown. He'll be without both Noah Fant (ankle) and Melvin Gordon (illness) on Sunday, so Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick and Phillip Lindsay are expected to be Lock's top targets against the Patriots' sturdy pass defense.
Oct 16, 2020
Listed as questionable for Week 6
The Broncos list Lock (shoulder) as questionable for Sunday's scheduled game against the Patriots, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, coach Vic Fangio noted Friday that the QB is trending in the right direction with regard to starting Sunday, while adding that the team chose questionable for Lock over not listing him with a status given that the "probable" designation is no longer an option. While it looks like Lock will be a go Sunday, it's worth monitoring the entire Week 6 NFL slate due to the potential of COVID-19 related postponements.
Oct 15, 2020
Second straight full practice
Lock (shoulder) turned in a second straight full practice Thursday, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports. "There were no setbacks [after Wednesday's practice]," Fangio said of Lock, who was sidelined for Denver's previous two games. "He definitely could start Sunday as it looks now, but we'll hold on making that final. He had a good practice [Thursday]."
ANALYSIS
While Fangio stopped short of saying that Lock would reclaim starting duties Sunday in New England, the second-year quarterback should take back that role if he comes out unscathed Friday in the team's final practice of Week 6. Perhaps more intriguing than whether Lock will start Sunday is which of the remaining three quarterbacks on the roster might serve as his backup. Jeff Driskel and Brett Rypien both drew starts while Lock was sidelined, but Blake Bortles boasts the most experience of anyone in Denver's quarterback room.
Oct 14, 2020
Resumes practicing in full
Lock (shoulder) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock missed Denver's last two games due to a shoulder strain, so that he's managed to resume handling unrestricted practice reps looks significant for his chances of retaking the field Week 6. Coach Vic Fangio hasn't yet committed to Lock as the starter for Sunday's game against the Patriots, per Nick Kosmider of The Athletic, but it certainly looks like the second-year signal-caller is trending in the right direction. In all likelihood, Broncos will monitor Lock throughout practice this week and make sure he avoids any setbacks before officially clearing him for a return.
Oct 11, 2020
Should be ready Week 6
Coach Vic Fangio said Sunday that Lock (shoulder) will likely be ready to start for the Broncos in the team's next game Week 6 at New England, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports. "The extra week should help...we'll see how he progresses the next 72 hours, see how much better he gets, and go from there," Fangio said of Lock.
ANALYSIS
The Patriots and Broncos were initially scheduled to play Sunday in Week 5, but due to three positive COVID-19 test results among New England players over the past week, the game was pushed back to Monday and then postponed to Week 6. The postponement created a de facto bye week for the Broncos, and few players on the team should benefit more from the extended break more than Lock, who had missed Denver's last two games with a right shoulder strain. Had the Broncos played Week 5, Fangio said Lock likely wouldn't be ready to go, but the signal-caller will likely have enough time to get healthy with Denver off the schedule until Oct. 18. Fangio hasn't decided whether Brett Rypien, Jeff Driskel or Blake Bortles will serve as Lock's top backup when the second-year quarterback is officially cleared to start again.
Oct 10, 2020
Listed as questionable
Lock (right shoulder) is listed as questionable for Monday's game.
ANALYSIS
The extra day of preparation certainly appears to have benefitted the Broncos as Lock registered a second straight day of limited participation in practice. While Monday's matchup is likely a difficult one from a fantasy perspective, star cornerback Stephen Gilmore will not play after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week which could help Lock if he's able to take the field. The Broncos would certainly like the second-year QB to start if he's deemed healthy enough to, although fantasy mangers should still monitor his status ahead of the 5:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Oct 8, 2020
Still limited at practice
Lock (right shoulder) remained limited at practice Thursday, Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
While Lock is clearly moving in the right direction, coach Vic Fangio isn't quite ready to sign off on the QB returning to action in Week 4, noting that "besides just the throwing, which is the obvious evaluator, you also have to know if he's capable physically and mentally to take a hit or go to the ground." With that in mind, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News believes that Brett Rypien is trending toward starting Sunday's game against the Patriots. Added clarity on that front should arrive no later than Friday's final Week 5 injury report.
Oct 7, 2020
Set for limited practice
Lock (shoulder) will practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock's limited session Wednesday signifies his first return to practice since suffering a rotator/labral injury in his right throwing shoulder Week 2. The Broncos will evaluate Lock in practice as the week continues before making a final decision on his availability for Sunday's game in New England, but it looks as though there's a legitimate chance that the second-year signal caller could return after only a two-game absence. Mike Klis of 9News Denver notes that he's been able to throw a football since Monday. Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore (illness) having tested positive for COVID-19 could put Sunday's contest at risk of postponement, but for now Michael Giardi of NFL Network reports that the Broncos are continuing as if Week 5's contest will be played as usual.
Oct 6, 2020
Takes in practice from sideline
Lock was a spectator at the part of the Broncos' practice open to the media Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was knocked out of the Broncos' Week 2 loss in Pittsburgh with what was later termed a rotator/labral issue in his right throwing shoulder. The given timeline for a recovery was 2-to-6 weeks, so he reached the front end of that window this week. But Tuesday's session was an unofficial one, so Lock's true status won't be updated until Denver releases its first Week 5 injury report Wednesday. With Lock out of the lineup, Jeff Driskel started Week 3, Brett Rypien handled those duties Week 4, and Blake Bortles has been learning the system the past two weeks. If Lock us unable to return Sunday in New England, it's unclear who among the aforementioned trio will get the next shot to start under center.
Sep 29, 2020
May be back Week 5
Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said Tuesday that Lock (shoulder) may be ready to play in Denver's Week 5 game Oct. 11 at New England, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Denver is facing a quick turnaround Week 4 with a Thursday night game against the Jets, so Lock will be sidelined for a second straight game with the strained right rotator cuff/labral injury he sustained in the Week 2 loss at Pittsburgh. The Broncos' decision not to place Lock on injured reserve had already implied the signal-caller had some hope of avoiding a three-game absence, but he'll still need to ramp up his practice activity next week to have a realistic chance at suiting up against New England. Fangio admitted that the Broncos have more hope that Lock will be ready to go for the Week 6 game against the Dolphins, so the 23-year-old is probably best viewed as doubtful for the Patriots game at this stage.
Sep 23, 2020
Not a candidate for IR
The Broncos believe that Lock (shoulder) has a chance to return earlier than three weeks and will not place him on injured reserve, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock's rotator/labral will cause him to miss a minimum of two contests, after which point he'll be re-evaluated, but it looks as though he has a legitimate shot at returning to the lineup versus New England in Week 5. It also remains very possible that Lock could miss up to five weeks, in which case he wouldn't retake the field until after the Week 8 bye, but Denver will at the very least leave the door open for a quick recovery. For the time being, Jeff Driskel will lead the Broncos' offense, with Blake Bortles set to serve as his top backup.
Sep 21, 2020
Will be re-evaluated in two weeks
Lock (shoulder) is slated to miss at least two weeks before the Broncos re-evaluate his injury, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock suffered a rotator/labral issue in his right shoulder during Sunday's loss to the Steelers. It looks as though the second-year signal-caller's earliest opportunity to retake the field will come Week 5 versus New England, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Broncos expect to have Lock back before their Week 8 bye. In the meantime, Jeff Driskel will line up under center for Denver. Even when Lock does return to action, he'll be forced to operate without top wideout Courtland Sutton (knee), who suffered a season-ending ACL and MCL tear Week 2.
Sep 21, 2020
Will miss 2-to-6 weeks
Lock suffered a rotator/labral issue in his right shoulder and will miss 2-to-6 weeks, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock underwent an MRI that changed the diagnosis from a sprained AC joint to a rotator/labral issue, but the timeline for his return remains the same. For the time being, Jeff Driskel is expected to start under center after finishing this past Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh following Lock's injury.
Sep 20, 2020
Expected to miss 2-6 weeks
Lock (right shoulder) reportedly sprained his AC and is expected to miss two-to-six weeks, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Lock will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the severity of his injury and set the stage for how much time he might miss, but it now looks like Jeff Driskel is in line for a least a couple of starts at QB for the Broncos.
Sep 20, 2020
Will have tests on shoulder
Lock will undergo tests on his right (throwing) shoulder Monday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Lock sported a sling when he addressed the media after Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Steelers, the QB said he'll take "it day-by-day," adding that he's "optimistic about it," Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site notes. That said, the Broncos figure to proceed cautiously here, and unless Lock's issue is deemed very minor, the stage is set for Jeff Driskel to start next Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Sep 20, 2020
Won't return to game
Lock (right shoulder) won't return to Sunday's game against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
With Lock dealing with an issue involving his throwing shoulder, Jeff Driskel is in line to finish up Sunday's game at quarterback for the Broncos.
Sep 20, 2020
Exits with shoulder injury
Lock was forced out of Sunday's game versus the Steelers with a shoulder injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was sacked by Bud Dupree in the first quarter and immediately went to the medical tent. He's considered questionable to return, and for the time being, Jeff Driskel will be under center for the Broncos.
Sep 15, 2020
Suffers second loss as starter
Lock completed 22 of 33 pass attempts for 216 yards and a touchdown during Monday's 16-14 loss to Tennesee. He also picked up five yards on three rushing attempts, fumbling twice but losing possession neither time.
ANALYSIS
The second-year signal-caller had some difficulties collecting snaps from center Lloyd Cushenberry at various points throughout the contest, but he was mostly in sync with his young skill-position group. Noah Fant and Tim Patrick each pulled in 80-plus percent of their intended targets, though a pair of drops from first-round rookie Jerry Jeudy will be something to clean up for next week. Lock may now sit at 4-2 as an NFL starter, meanwhile, but his fantasy prospects have diminished since a three-touchdown outing against the Texans in his second career start last December. Over his past four outings, Lock has just three combined touchdown passes and an average of 198.3 passing yards per game. He now prepares for a Week 2 matchup against a Steelers defense that picked off Daniel Jones twice in a 26-16 win Monday.

Has strong Sunday practice
Lock impressed during Sunday's practice, Benjamin Allbright of KOA News Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Allbright, in particular, noted a beautiful deep ball Lock uncorked to Courtland Sutton. Lock impressed during his five-start audition to end the 2019 season with quarterback ratings of over 90 in three games despite playing with a depleted offensive line and little in the way of skill players. Expectations must be tempered as Lock is playing in a new scheme with a lot of young faces. Still, the early reports have been that rookies Jerry Jeudy and Lloyd Cushenberry are impressing and Lock is responding well to Pat Shurmur's scheme. Any sort of gelling at this stage should prompt excitement.

Gets in work with receivers
Lock recently met with a few teammates for a throwing session, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock had been riding the pandemic out with family in Missouri before recently returning to Denver. Renck did not report which members of Denver's receiving corps participated in the session, but any increased familiarity with his targets will be good for Lock heading into Year 2. The sophomore passer had some impressive moments during his 4-1 run as a starter and it's fair to wonder if he could have performed even better had he not missed a chunk of the preseason and two-third of the regular season with a thumb injury. The Broncos are installing a new offensive scheme and will have a lot of new faces on offense, so every little bit should help with organized team activities presently limited to online meetings.

Gets huge bump to supporting cast
The Broncos invested three of their five picks during the first three rounds of the draft on offense, building around Lock for his sophomore campaign, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock went from second-round pick to injured reserve to surprise 4-1 starter all within the course of a few months. He flashed some big-time ability, particularly in Week 14 against Houston, despite having little in the way of established weapons opposite Courtland Sutton. That changed in a big way Thursday and Friday when the Broncos selected wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler in the first and second rounds, respectively, and followed up with the selection of Lloyd Cushenberry in the third round. Cushenberry figures to be a Day 1 starter at center, while Jeudy's smooth route running and Hamler's sub-4.3-40 speed could earn them starting roles as WR2 and WR3. Add in the investments the front office made in power back Melvin Gordon and guard Graham Glasgow in free agency, if Lock fails to establish himself as the franchise cornerstone in Year 2 it won't be for lack of support.

Unlikely to be tested in camp
Following the signing of journeyman Jeff Driskel as the presumptive QB2, Denver appears content to stand pat at quarterback, Benjamin Allbright of KOA News Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock was mostly solid, but showed flashes of real promise down the stretch during his 4-1 tenure as the Broncos' starting quarterback. That didn't prevent some from calling for Denver to bring in a veteran to push Lock in 2020. That hasn't happened and, though Driskel has the athleticism to complement Lock's style, his 1-7 career records as a starter -- albeit on some bad teams -- is unlikely to trigger a camp battle. It is possible that the Broncos look for a developmental quarterback in the late rounds of the draft, but everything is trending toward a full-season audition for Lock in 2020.

Acknowledged as top dog
General manager John Elway acknowledged that Lock is "the guy" in Denver, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock's 64.1 percent completion rate as a rookie was actually better than what he posted in any of his four seasons at Missouri. That's not to say concerns about accuracy or pocket presence can now be totally dismissed, but the 2019 second-round pick at least played well enough to earn the starting job for Week 1 of 2020. Elway was asked about the possibility of signing Tom Brady, and while the GM said he'd be willing to talk with the future Hall of Famer, he also made sure to mention that the Broncos are happy with Lock, per Mike Klis of 9News Denver. There hasn't been any other suggestion that Denver is one of the destinations Brady would consider.

Gets new OC
The Broncos have officially announced the hiring of former Giants head coach Pat Shurmur as offensive coordinator. The new mentor for Lock and the Broncos offense averaged 4.5 plays of 20 or more yards per game in two seasons in New York, sixth in the league Patrick Smyth, Denver's Executive Vice President of Public and Community Relations points out.
ANALYSIS
Just two weeks ago, head coach Vic Fangio was telling reporters that he did not expect to make changes to his staff. Things clearly changed Sunday as news of 2019 offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello's firing quickly made way for rumors that Shurmur was coming to Mile High. Shurmur will be Lock's fourth coordinator in as many years, but there is reason for longterm hope. Despite seldom having much talent or health at quarterback, Shurmur has developed a reputation as a playcaller capable of pushing the envelope downfield. That style seems to suit Lock's big arm and gunslinger mentality. Also, given his two unsuccessful campaigns as head coach, it seems unlikely that Shurmur will jump ship if Lock makes strides in 2020.

Injures hand
Lock is questionable to return to Monday's preseason game against the 49ers due to a hand injury, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock suffered the injury early in the third quarter when he appeared to fall on his left hand while scrambling to avoid pressure. The severity of the rookie second-rounder's injury remains unknown at this time, but the signal-caller reportedly could continue taking snaps into the fourth quarter if he's cleared to return.
