McPherson went 2-for-3 on field-goal attempts and connected on all four of his point-after tries during the Bengals' 47-42 loss to the Bears on Sunday.

McPherson knocked through both of his extra-point tries and did not log any field-goal attempts in the Bengals' 41-14 preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday afternoon.

The fifth-year pro is coming off a 2024 downturn that saw him convert a career-low 72.7 percent of his field-goal attempts, but he seems poised for a bounce-back campaign if his preseason performance is any indication. McPherson saw time in all three of the Bengals' exhibitions and converted his three field-goal attempts and nine PATs over that span, and his association with a prolific Joe Burrow-led offense therefore makes the talented kicker's outlook bright heading into the 2025 season.

McPherson is reverting back to the original kicking technique that he employed in 2021-22 after switching the last two years, a change that drew mixed results, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. He hasn't yet missed a kick in camp.

McPherson initially employed a gentle draw, but switched to a kick that in theory flew straighter, taking the wind out of the equation more. But the new technique robbed him of a little distance, and last season the control eluded him too, leading to six missed kicks, including two critical misses in a loss to the Chargers.

McPherson has been participating in Cincinnati's voluntary OTAs, indicating he's fully recovered from the abdomen injury that forced him to miss the team's final five games last season. The Florida product had the worst season of his NFL career in 2024, converting on just 16 of 22 field-goal attempts. Over the past two seasons, he's made only 52.6 percent of his field-goal tries (10 of 19) from 50 or more yards. However, he's missed just one of his last 78 extra-point attempts and appears poised for a bounce-back season in 2025.

McPherson (groin) converted 16 of 22 field-goal attempts across 12 regular-season appearances with the Bengals in 2024. He also went 37-for-38 on PATs.

McPherson ended his campaign with a career-low 73 percent conversion rate on field goals before landing on IR with a groin injury early December, with all four of his misses coming from 50-plus yards out. He inked a three-year, $16.5 million extension with Cincinnati last August, meaning McPherson remains under contract through the 2027 campaign.

The Bengals have placed McPherson (right groin) on IR.

McPherson will thus miss at least four games, meaning that the soonest he'd be eligible to return from IR would be Week 18 against the Steelers. To replace him, the Bengals officially added fellow kicker Cade York to the practice squad ahead of the team's Monday night game against the Cowboys.

McPherson is expected to miss a few weeks due to a groin injury, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

While the report indicates that McPherson's injury is not season-ending, he's on track to miss some time, per Garafolo. With that in mind, the Bengals are slated to add Cade York to their practice squad ahead of Monday night's game against the Cowboys.

McPherson agreed to terms Friday on a three-year, $16.5 million extension with the Bengals, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

McPherson's new deal reportedly includes $10 million in its first year. The third-year kicker nailed the 35-yard attempt, giving him at least one made field goal in each of the team's 15 games this season.

McPherson's most recent outing should make fantasy managers optimistic about his rest-of-season value, as Jake Browning was able to lead Cincinnati's offense to 34 points in Week 13's affair, which ties the team's season-high in points scored in a single game.

McPherson converted his only field-goal attempt and his only extra-point try in Sunday's 16-10 loss versus the Steelers.

On a day in which Cincinnati was only able to muster 222 yards of total offense, McPherson was predictably a non-factor for the most part. He knocked through a 47-yard field goal with just over two minutes remaining in the game to bring the Bengals within six points, but they couldn't recover his onside kick, and Pittsburgh was able to kneel the remainder of the game away. Cincinnati's offense projects as one of the worst in the league without starting quarterback Joe Burrow, so fantasy managers would probably be wise to look elsewhere for a kicker for the rest of the year.

McPherson converted one of his two field-goal attempts and both of his two extra-point tries in Thursday's 34-20 loss at Baltimore.

In an otherwise mistake-free game for McPherson, he was unable to send home a 53-yard attempt on the first play of the second quarter that would have cut the Ravens' lead to 7-6. He still hasn't missed from 49 yards or fewer in 2023, but another long miss in Week 11 sent his conversion rate on kicks of 50-plus yards down to 60 percent for the season. With Joe Burrow (wrist) set to miss the rest of the campaign, fantasy prospects for Cincinnati's entire offense and McPherson take a huge ding going into the home stretch of the year.

McPherson made a game-tying 31-yard field goal with less than two minutes left in the game, but he never got an opportunity to get them the win from there. He also connected from 50 yards out in the third quarter, which helped close the gap on the Texans' lead, making it a 20-10 game. McPherson will kick again Thursday against the Ravens.

McPherson converted his only field-goal attempt and all three of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 24-18 win versus Buffalo.

McPherson was mostly quiet in Week 9, not attempting a field goal until the middle of the fourth quarter when he connected on a chip shot to extend Cincinnati's lead to 24-10. He's been automatic on kicks of less than 50 yards through eight games this season, and he projects as a good fantasy kicker when the Bengals host a middling Houston defense in Week 10.

McPherson missed his first field-goal try of the day from 50 yards out in the middle of the second quarter, failing to help Cincinnati expand on a 14-7 lead. In all, he has made just four of his seven field-goal attempts from 50-plus yards out in 2023, a far cry from the 87.5 percent conversion rate he managed from that range his first two years in the league. He's still been generally effective overall though, and he projects as a fine fantasy option in Week 9 when Cincinnati hosts Buffalo.

McPherson didn't get a ton of chances during a low-scoring affair versus the Seahawks, but early in the fourth quarter after a three and out from Cincinnati's offense, he answered the call and drove home a 52-yard attempt to extend the lead - which the Bengals would hold the rest of the way - to four points. Cincinnati has struggled to advance the ball the whole length of the field so far this season, putting McPherson on pace for a career high in field goal attempts. He's remained as efficient as ever, but the Bengals will have a tough San Francisco defense on tap after their Week 7 bye.

McPherson accounted for 13 of his team's points, connecting on field goals from 49, 53, 48 and 54 yards. That impressive effort came despite sending a 56-yard effort wide left on Cincinnati's first drive. Through three games, he now sports 22 points.

If nothing else, Cincinnati's offense seems like a good bet to improve on their Week 1 point total in Week 2 versus Baltimore.

Joe Burrow found Tee Higgins for a nine-yard score on the Bengals' first drive of the game, but McPherson pushed the extra-point try wide right. The kicker missed another PAT to the right following Cincinnati's next touchdown, but after the kick was negated by an unnecessary roughness call, the Bengals opted to go for two. McPherson bounced back by connecting on a 28-yard field goal to start the second quarter and finally made a PAT before halftime. However, the second-year kicker pulled his final kick -- a 43-yard field-goal attempt in the fourth quarter -- wide left. Overall, it was certainly a shaky performance from McPherson, but given the Bengals' high-powered offense, he should get plenty of opportunities to bounce back in Week 17 against Buffalo.
