Cut following failed physical
The Jets released Zuerlein (knee) with a failed physical designation Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein landed on injured reserve after Week 8 last season due to a left knee injury but was activated from the list prior to a Week 17 matchup with the Bills. He didn't attempt a kick in that game and then was placed on IR afterward, ending his campaign having made nine of 15 field-goal attempts and 13 of 14 point-after tries. The Jets announced the current move earlier Friday, but the reason for his release wasn't known until the NFL posted its transaction log for the day. New York will move forward with Anders Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis this offseason, while the 37-year-old Zuerlein presumably will need to prove his health in order to earn another opportunity.

Released by Gang Green
The Jets released Zuerlein (knee) on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein had one year remaining on the two-year, $8.4 million extension he inked with New York last offseason, but the team now opts to release the 13-year veteran after injuries limited him to eight appearances in 2024. The 37-year-old converted just nine of 15 field-goal tries in that span (60 percent), but he was good on 13 of 14 PATs. Anders Carlson and Caden Davis remain in position to compete for the Jets' starting kicker spot during training camp. Zuerlein is presumably recovered from the knee issue that forced him to miss the final nine games of 2024, given that he was cleared to resume practicing late in the season.
Dec 31, 2024
Shut down for season finale
The Jets placed Zuerlein on injured reserve Tuesday, Ethan Greenberg and John Pullano of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The team didn't provide word on Zuerlein's injury, but the veteran kicker presumably experienced a setback with the left knee issue that prompted his move to IR back in late October. After a seven-game absence, Zuerlein was cleared to return to practice last week and was activated from IR prior to Sunday's game against the Bills, but he didn't receive any kicking chances in the Jets' 40-14 loss. New York signed Greg Joseph off its practice squad to handle kicking duties in this Sunday's season finale versus the Dolphins. The 37-year-old Zuerlein is wrapping up the first season of a two-year, $8.4 million deal, but with no guaranteed money left on his contract heading into 2025, he'll likely be a cap casualty this offseason after connecting on just nine of 15 field-goal tries and 13 of 14 point-after attempts in 2024.
Dec 30, 2024
No attempts in return from IR
Zuerlein didn't attempt a kick in Sunday's 40-14 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein was active for the first time since Week 8 but wasn't called into action. The Jets didn't score until after they fell behind 40-0, so they opted to go for two after both of their late touchdowns.
Dec 29, 2024
Will play against Buffalo
Zuerlein (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein was activated off IR on Saturday, and he will return from a seven-game absence due to a left knee injury. The veteran kicker will supplant Anders Carlson (coach's decision) as the Jets' kicker for Sunday's AFC East clash.
Dec 28, 2024
Activated off IR
The Jets activated Zuerlein (knee) off injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein has been on injured reserve during the Jets' last seven games due to a left knee injury that he suffered in late October. Zuerlein was a full practice participant Thursday and Friday, and he has progressed enough in his recovery to return to placekicking duties Sunday against the Bills, per Eric Allen of the Jets' official site. Prior to going on IR, Zuerlein went 9-for-15 on field-goal attempts and 13-for-14 on extra-point tries across eight regular-season games.
Dec 27, 2024
Set to kick Week 17
Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said Friday that Zuerlein (knee) will kick in Sunday's game against the Bills, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein's return still needs to be made official with an activation from injured reserve prior to Sunday's game. The veteran kicker has been on IR since Week 8. He tried to play through a knee injury prior to that point, but it had a significant effect on his performance, as Zuerlein has missed six of 15 field-goal attempts in 2024 after missing only three times on 38 attempts in 2023.
Dec 26, 2024
Designated to return from IR
The Jets opened Zuerlein's (knee) 21-day practice window Thursday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein landed on IR in late October due to a left knee injury. Since then, New York has deployed a merry-go-round of kickers, including Riley Patterson, Spencer Shrader (hamstring) and Anders Carlson. The Jets also signed veteran Greg Joseph to their practice squad Tuesday, and for the moment it's unclear which of Carlson, Zuerlein or Joseph will be the team's kicker Sunday in Buffalo.
Oct 30, 2024
Placed on IR
The Jets have placed Zuerlein (knee) on IR.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein, who has made nine of his 15 field-goal attempts through eight contests to date, will thus be sidelined until at least Week 14. To replace him, the Jets have signed Spencer Shrader and Riley Patterson to their practice squad in advance of Thursday night's game against the Texans.
Oct 29, 2024
Dealing with left knee injury
Zuerlein (knee) was listed as a limited practice participant on Tuesday's estimated injury report, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein wasn't listed on Monday's injury report, but the veteran kicker appears to be dealing with a left knee injury which could impact his availability for Thursday's game against the Texans. Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that the Jets hosted six kickers -- including Cade York, Zane Gonzalez and Brayden Narveson -- for a workout Tuesday in case Zuerlein is unable to play Thursday. Zuerlein has converted on just nine of his 15 field-goal attempts and has gone 13-for-14 on extra-point tries through the first eight games of the regular season.
Oct 28, 2024
Dreadful season continues
Zuerlein made one of two field-goal attempts and one of two PAT attempts in Sunday's 25-22 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein posted yet another subpar performance, failing to tie the game after the Jets' first-quarter touchdown and missing a 44-yard field-goal attempt in the fourth. This was the third loss for the 2-6 Jets in which Zuerlein's inaccuracy played a pivotal role. Even on a short week before Thursday's home game against the Texans, it wouldn't be surprising if the Jets looked for an alternative to Zuerlein, who has six misses on 15 field-goal attempts this season.
Oct 21, 2024
Misses keep piling up
Zuerlein missed his only field-goal attempt and made his only official PAT try in Sunday's 37-15 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein's 35-yard field-goal attempt in the third quarter was blocked, keeping the Jets' deficit at the time at eight points. He also had a PAT blocked, but that play was erased by a penalty on the Steelers, and the Jets subsequently opted to go for two. The Jets' margin for error is nearly nonexistent at 2-5, and Zuerlein's inaccuracy has been a major factor in two of those losses, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the Jets look for alternatives prior to a Week 8 trip to New England. The veteran kicker has made only eight of 13 field-goal attempts this season, with no successful kicks from beyond 40 yards.
Oct 15, 2024
Disastrous showing Monday
Zuerlein converted two of four field-goal attempts and both PAT tries in Monday's 23-20 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
For the second time in the last three weeks, a Jets loss can be pinned squarely on Greg's leg. After missing a go-ahead field-goal attempt in the final minute against the Broncos in Week 4, Zuerlein clanked two second-half go-ahead field-goal attempts off the upright Monday. It was a windy night at MetLife Stadium, but the misses came from 32 and 43 yards, while Zuerlein's makes from 34 and 22 were hardly impressive. The veteran kicker's reputation has bought him some breathing room up to this point, but the Jets will likely start considering alternatives if Zuerlein's accuracy issues persist.
Oct 6, 2024
Another light workload
Zuerlein connected on his only field-goal attempt and made both PAT tries in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein connected from 32 yards in the third quarter after the Jets forewent what would have been a 44-yard field-goal attempt in the second quarter in favor of a pitiful attempt to pick up fourth-and-2 on the ground. That decision proved costly, as it forced the Jets to go for a touchdown down by six on their final possession after once again working their way into field-goal range. Zuerlein has made multiple field goals only once through five games.
Sep 30, 2024
Critical miss leads to Week 4 loss
Zuerlein made three of four field-goal attempts in Sunday's 10-9 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein scored all of the Jets' points in this one, but his makes from 23, 35 and 40 yards were overshadowed by his missed 50-yard field-goal attempt with 47 seconds remaining, which ended the Jets' hopes of improving to 3-1. Instead, the Jets are 2-2 and Zuerlein's just 5-for-7 on field-goal attempts heading into a Week 5 trip to London to face the Vikings.
Sep 20, 2024
Another low-volume game
Zuerlein made one of two field-goal attempts and all three PAT tries in Thursday's 24-3 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein contributed only one of the NFL-record 73 field goals made in Week 2, and he converted just one yet again Thursday. The Jets have been efficient when they get into scoring range early this season, with nine touchdowns compared to only three field-goal attempts, and Zuerlein shanked a 45-yard attempt late in the first half Thursday before bouncing back with a 28-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
Sep 16, 2024
Just one FG through two games
Zuerlein made his only field-goal attempt from 33 yards and converted all three of his PAT tries in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein got another relatively light workload, as he has attempted only one field goal through two games. Aaron Rodgers and the Jets offense will look to heat up in Thursday's home opener against the Patriots and give Zuerlein more kicking opportunities.
Sep 11, 2024
No FG attempts Monday
Zuerlein made his lone PAT attempt and didn't attempt a field goal in Monday's 32-19 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein's coming off a strong season in which he made 35 of 38 field-goal attempts, but the veteran kicker didn't get a chance to show off his big leg Monday as San Francisco dominated time of possession. Forced to play catch-up, the Jets went for two after two of their three touchdowns. Zuerlein will hope to get more opportunities in Week 2 against the Titans.
Mar 11, 2024
Re-signing with New York
Zuerlein is slated to sign a two-year, $8.4 million deal to remain with the Jets, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
In 16 regular season games with New York in 2023, Zuerlein connected on 35 of his 38 field-goal attempts and 15 of his 16 extra-point tries en route to recording 120 points. Looking ahead, the 36-year-old's fantasy upside hinges on the performance of the Jets offense in 2024, a unit that figured to be buoyed by the looming return to action of veteran franchise QB Aaron Rodgers (Achilles).
Jan 7, 2024
Hits three of four tries in snow
Zuerlein made three of four field-goal attempts in Sunday's 17-3 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
With heavy snow coming down, no kick was easy, so Zuerlein's performance was more than adequate in that context. He connected from 21, 40 and 33 yards but banged a 49-yard attempt off the upright. The miss was only Zuerlein's third on 38 field-goal attempts, and he made 15 of 16 PAT tries in 2023. The 36-year-old kicker will be a free agent this offseason, but the Jets will likely try to re-sign Zuerlein, who has spent the past two seasons with the team on one-year deals.
Dec 29, 2023
Makes two FGs, has one blocked
Zuerlein (quadriceps) made two of three field-goal attempts and both PAT tries in Thursday's 37-20 loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein connected from 46 yards and 44 yards but had a 31-yard attempt blocked in between. He came into the game nursing a quadriceps injury but played through it. Zuerlein's blocked field-goal attempt was just his second miss in 34 tries heading into the Week 18 season finale against the Patriots.
Dec 28, 2023
Will suit up Thursday night
Zuerlein (quadriceps) is active for Thursday's game against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein was deemed a 'DNP' on Tuesday and logged a limited listing Wednesday due to a right quad injury. His status for Thursday Night Football was in some question, but he'll be able to participate in the contest after all. An erratic Jets offense has made it difficult to predict Zuerlein's production of late -- he's made multiple field goals three times in his past four games but also has three games with zero field goals among his past six contests.
Dec 27, 2023
Questionable for Thursday
Zuerlein (quadriceps) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game at Cleveland, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein was limited at practice Wednesday, so his availability for Week 17 seems close to a coin-flip proposition. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, the Jets signed Austin Seibert to their practice squad Wednesday as an insurance policy in the event Zuerlein can't play Thursday.
Dec 26, 2023
Uncertain for Thursday night
Head coach Robert Saleh said that Zuerlein is dealing with right quadricep soreness coming out of Sunday's 30-28 win over the Commanders and is uncertain to be available for Thursday's game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
If Zuerlein's leg was bothering him Sunday, it wasn't apparent in his performance. He converted on all six of his kicks (three field goals, three extra points) in Week 16, including a game-winner from 54 yards out with five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Zuerlein was listed as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report but he wasn't on the field for Tuesday's walk-through session, according to Al Iannazzone of Newsday. The Jets don't currently have another kicker on their 53-man roster or practice squad, so the team would presumably sign one no later than Wednesday if there's truly any concern about Zuerlein's chances of playing Thursday.
Dec 25, 2023
Not full participant Monday
Zuerlein was listed as a limited participant on Monday's practice estimate due to a quadriceps injury, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein converted all three of his field-goal attempts and all three PAT attempts in Sunday's 30-28 win over the Commanders. This included his game-winner in the final seconds. However, he apparently came out of the game with a quadriceps issue as well. The veteran's status for Thursday's game against the Browns is now in question. It remains to be seen if New York will add a kicker to its practice squad, which would be a sign that Zuerlein's status is indeed up in the air.
Dec 25, 2023
Kicks game-winner in final seconds
Zuerlein made all three of his field-goal attempts and all three PAT attempts in Sunday's 30-28 win over the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein was busy early, connecting on field goals of 25 and 27 yards along with three PATs as the Jets jumped out to a 27-7 halftime lead. His only kick of the second half was Zuerlein's hardest and most important, as it came from 54 yards away and put the Jets ahead 30-28 with five seconds left. Zuerlein's opportunities have been limited by New York's inconsistent offense, but the veteran kicker has been excellent when called upon, with only one missed field goal and one missed PAT on 31 and 14 attempts, respectively.
Dec 18, 2023
Stapled to bench in shutout loss
Zuerlein didn't attempt a kick in Sunday's 30-0 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
After scoring 30 points in their previous game, the Jets were outscored by 30 in their first shutout loss of 2023, so Zuerlein didn't register an attempt. Starting quarterback Zach Wilson (concussion) left in the first half and was replaced by the ineffective Trevor Siemian. A favorable Week 16 matchup against Washington is up next, but with Wilson's status in doubt, the Jets will continue to have a low floor on offense.
Dec 11, 2023
Makes three FGs, three PATs in win
Zuerlein made all three of his field-goal attempts and all three PAT tries in Sunday's 30-6 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
After a scoreless first half, the Jets came alive offensively in the second half, scoring three touchdowns in a four-drive span before adding three field goals to increase their lead. Zuerlein's trio of fourth-quarter field goals were from 51, 55 and 44 yards.
Dec 4, 2023
Connects on both kicks in loss
Zuerlein made both of his field-goal attempts in Sunday's 13-8 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein connected from 27 yards out in the second quarter and from 46 in the third. New York's other two points were scored on the Jets' league-leading third safety of the season, but the offense failed to get into the end zone. Zuerlein has attempted 25 field goals but just eight PATs, making all but one of each.
Nov 25, 2023
No FG attempts again
Zuerlein didn't attempt a field goal and converted one of two PATs in Friday's 34-13 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
After benching Zach Wilson in favor of Tim Boyle during the previous game, the Jets' struggling offense looked no better in Boyle's first start of 2023. At least Wilson usually got the team in field-goal range a few times per game; Boyle didn't lead the offense into Miami territory until the fourth quarter. Zuerlein hasn't attempted a field goal over the past two games.
Nov 20, 2023
Zero attempts in Week 11
Zuerlein didn't attempt a field goal or PAT in Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
After accounting for all of the Jets' points over the previous two games with six field goals, Zuerlein didn't get off the bench in the team's Week 11 loss. New York's lone touchdown reduced the deficit to 16-6 in the second quarter, so the Jets went for two in hopes of making it a one-possession game. Zuerlein will hope to be busier when the Jets return home in Week 12 to host the Dolphins.
Nov 13, 2023
Four FGs account for all NYJ points
Zuerlein made all four of his field-goal attempts in Sunday's 16-12 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
For the second time in as many weeks, Zuerlein accounted for all of the Jets' points. He has made all six of his field-goal attempts over that span and is 22-for-23 this season. Zuerlein connected from 47, 53, 30 and 45 yards in the Week 10 loss.
Nov 7, 2023
Two more FGs, no PATs Monday
Zuerlein made both of his field-goal attempts in Monday's 27-6 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein connected from 47 yards in the second quarter and from 46 in the third. The veteran kicker has made all but one of his 19 field-goal attempts in 2023, as well as all six PAT attempts. New York's inability to score touchdowns should continue creating plenty of opportunities for Zuerlein to kick field goals moving forward.
Oct 29, 2023
Clutch despite low volume in Week 8
Zuerlein made both of his field-goal attempts and his only PAT try in Sunday's 13-10 overtime win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The Jets' offense struggled to provide Zuerlein opportunities, but he made a pair of clutch, short kicks down the stretch. His 35-yard field goal tied the game on the final play of the fourth quarter, and Zuerlein added the overtime game-winner from 33 yards out. The veteran kicker has missed only once in six appearances this season.
Oct 16, 2023
Nine made FGs in last two games
Zuerlein converted all four of his field-goal attempts in Sunday's 20-14 win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
New York's defense forced four turnovers, giving the offense numerous short fields, but it took until the game's final two minutes for the offense to finally find the end zone. Prior to that point, Zuerlein accounted for the team's first 12 points with makes from 43, 42, 35 and 38 yards. Zuerlein made a 60-yard field goal last season, but the Jets notably turned down a pair of opportunities from 55-plus yards in Sunday's win, electing to go for it once and punt another time.
Oct 9, 2023
Busy in Week 5 win
Zuerlein made all five of his field-goal attempts and both PAT tries in Sunday's 31-21 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Four of Zuerlein's field goals were 30 yards or shorter, as New York moved the ball well but frequently stalled out in the red zone. His other make came from 49 yards out in the fourth quarter. The veteran kicker has made 10 of 11 field-goal attempts heading into a Week 6 home game against the Eagles.
Oct 2, 2023
Misses 52-yarder
Zuerlein made one of two field-goal attempts and converted his only PAT try in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein's 52-yard field-goal attempt in the second quarter clanked off the upright and bounced away. That proved to be a consequential miss in a game the Jets ultimately lost by three points. Prior to the miss, Zuerlein converted a 31-yard attempt. He has made five of six field-goal attempts across three appearances this season.
Sep 24, 2023
Accurate in return
Zuerlein (groin) made his only field-goal attempt from 52 yards away and converted his lone PAT attempt in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein didn't miss a beat in his return after missing the previous game due to a groin injury. Wet conditions didn't deter the veteran kicker on a 52-yard field-goal attempt in the second quarter. New York's averaging just 14.0 PPG, so Zuerlein's opportunities will likely remain limited moving forward.
Sep 24, 2023
Good to go Week 3
Zuerlein (leg) is officially active for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
ANALYSIS
The 35-year-old was considered questionable for Sunday after sitting out Week 2 with the leg injury, and he'll be back on the field after a one-game absence. Zuerlein made 92 percent of his field goals inside 50 yards last year and had a strong showing in the season opener, making all three of his field-goal attempts plus one PAT.
Sep 23, 2023
Trending towards playing
Zuerlein (leg) is expected to kick Sunday as the Jets opted not to active another kicker from the practice squad, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Expect the Jets to make it official closer to the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday, but this is still positive news for fantasy managers who were hoping to have the big leg of Zuerlein's in their fantasy lineup. Austin Seibert filled in last week for the veteran and made his only field-goal attempt in the blowout loss to the Cowboys.
Sep 22, 2023
Questionable despite full practice
Zuerlein (leg) logged a full practice Friday but is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein's ability to practice fully Friday puts him in good shape to return after a one-game absence. The veteran kicker steadily increased his participation throughout the week, as Zuerlein was limited Thursday after Wednesday's DNP. Whether the Jets choose to elevate kicker Austin Seibert from the practice squad prior to Sunday's game will be a telling sign regarding Zuerlein's availability, or lack thereof.
Sep 22, 2023
Set to practice Friday
Zuerlein (groin) will kick at practice Friday, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein returned to limited practice participation Thursday and will once again test out the groin injury that kept him sidelined in Week 2 against Dallas and in practice Wednesday. If the veteran kicker shows that he's over the injury in practice Friday, he would likely return to action Sunday against the Patriots. Should Zuerlein require more recovery time, Austin Seibert would be in line to get elevated from the practice squad for a second consecutive game.
Sep 21, 2023
Back to practicing Thursday
Zuerlein (groin) was a limited participant at practice Thursday, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein was forced to sit out by his groin injury in Week 2, but his presence at practice Thursday is a step in the right direction ahead of Week 3. He'll still probably need to practice in full Friday in order to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.
Sep 20, 2023
Absent from Wednesday's practice
Zuerlein (groin) didn't practice Wednesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein remains bothered by the groin injury that prevented him from suiting up in Week 2 against the Cowboys. Austin Seibert was signed to the practice squad and subsequently made his only field-goal attempt in Week 2 after being elevated in Zuerlein's absence. If Zuerlein hasn't healed by Sunday's clash with the Patriots, Seibert would be in line for another elevation from the practice squad.
Sep 16, 2023
Not playing Sunday
Zuerlein (groin) has been downgraded and will not play Sunday against the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
The Jets chose to sign Austin Seibert to replace Zuerlein. The decision to sign Seibert instead of promote off the practice squad is an interesting one, and could suggest a prolonged absence for the veteran, although the Jets have yet to officially reveal any more information at the moment. Expect more news to surface regarding Zuerlein's availability for future weeks in due time.
Sep 15, 2023
Questionable with groin injury
Zuerlein (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Dallas, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein didn't practice Friday while tending to a groin injury in his right (kicking) leg. The Jets are expected to sign a kicker to their practice squad Friday or Saturday to have an insurance option on hand in the event that Zuerlein isn't able to play in Sunday's game, which kicks off at 4:25 p.m. ET. Zuerlein is coming off a productive Week 1 game in which he knocked down his lone extra-point attempt and all three of his field-goal tries in the Jets' 22-16 overtime win over the Bills.
Sep 15, 2023
Looking 50/50 for Week 2
Coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Zuerlein (groin) is "50/50" to suit up Sunday at Dallas, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein won't practice Friday, and it appears that he will be a true game-time decision for Sunday's contest in Dallas. The Jets' kickoff timing Week 2 (4:25 p.m. ET) could put fantasy managers in a difficult decision if Zuerlein is ultimately ruled out, so in most formats it will be desirable to search for another option on waivers. The Jets will begin working out kickers Friday, so a practice squad signing could be en route.
Sep 12, 2023
Accurate in Week 1 win
Zuerlein made all three of his field-goal attempts and converted his lone PAT try in Monday's 22-16 overtime win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein didn't need to showcase his leg strength in this one, connecting from 26, 43 and 30 yards out. His last field goal gave the Jets a three-point lead with 1:48 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Buffalo tied the game before New York won it with an overtime touchdown. Zuerlein's ceiling moving forward has been lowered by Aaron Rodgers' season-ending Achilles injury, but Greg the Leg's certainly capable of continuing to perform at a high level if New York's Zach Wilson-led offense can get into scoring range consistently.
Aug 14, 2023
Stays perfect in preseason
Zuerlein made both of his field-goal attempts and all three PAT tries in Saturday's 27-0 preseason win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
The Jets still have two preseason games left, but Zuerlein's ready for the regular season to start. After connecting from 47 and 45 yards out in this one, the veteran kicker has made all five of his field-goal attempts this preseason, with each kick coming from at least 44 yards away.
Aug 4, 2023
In midseason form
Zuerlein connected on all three of his field-goal attempts and his lone PAT attempt in Thursday's 21-16 preseason loss to Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
All of Zuerlein's output came in the first half, as he made field goals from 54, 44 and 53 yards away. Greg the Leg is expected to be far busier in 2023 after the Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers in the offseason to lead their offense.
Mar 13, 2023
Remains in New York
Zuerlein has re-signed with the Jets, Dianna Russini of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein has converted between 81 and 83 percent of his field-goal attempts over the last three years, which isn't elite, though it is acceptable. After he attempted just 29 field goals last year, if the Jets are able to upgrade at quarterback, his fantasy value could be on the rise.
Jan 10, 2023
Misses in loss
Zuerlein missed one of his three field-goal attempts and did not take an extra point in Sunday's 11-6 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein converted from 32 and 35 yards but went wide left with a 55-yard attempt during the second quarter. The 35-year-old made just 30 of 37 field goals but knocked in 28 of 29 PATs to rank inside the top 15 for kickers league-wide with 118 total points this season. Zuerlein is now slated to enter unrestricted free agency this offseason.
Jan 2, 2023
Another lengthy miss in Week 17
Zuerlein made two of three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 23-6 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein capped consecutive first-half drives with 44-yard field goals, but he failed to convert from 57 yards out on the opening possession of the second half with New York looking to make it a one-score game. The banged-up Jets' offensive struggles have limited Zuerlein's opportunities in recent weeks, and New York has been eliminated from playoff contention heading into the regular-season finale against the Dolphins.
Dec 23, 2022
Makes only field-goal in Week 16
Zuerlein made a 37-yard field goal in Thursday's 19-3 loss to the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein accounted for all the offense for New York in Thursday's contest, nailing his only field-goal attempt in the first quarter, giving the Jets an early 3-0 lead. The kicker has now gone 26-for-31 on field goals this season while making all eight tries he's had from less than 40 yards.
Dec 18, 2022
Misses game-tying attempt from deep
Zuerlein made one of two field-goal attempts and both PAT attempts in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein converted from 34 yards out on the final play of the first half. He had a chance to tie the game at the end of the second half, and Zuerlein's 58-yard attempt had plenty of distance, but he pulled it wide. While it wasn't an easy kick, Zuerlein's fifth missed field goal of the season was his costliest.
Dec 11, 2022
Doesn't miss in loss
Zuerlein made his lone field-goal attempt from 26 yards out and added a successful PAT in Sunday's 20-12 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
New York's other two points besides the touchdown and field goal came on a safety. Zuerlein has made 10 of 11 field-goal attempts over his last five games.
Dec 5, 2022
Spectacular in defeat
Zuerlein made all five field-goal attempts -- including a franchise record 60-yarder -- and his only PAT attempt in Sunday's 27-22 loss to Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein delivered one of the best kicking performances of the season as the Mike White-led Jets offense moved the ball at will but consistently stalled in scoring range. The 34-year-old kicker made a 48-yard attempt in the first quarter, then connected from 60 in the final seconds of the first half. After halftime, Zuerlein added makes from 36, 30 and 26 yards.
Nov 27, 2022
One make, one miss from deep
Zuerlein connected on a 57-yard field goal but also missed a 53-yard attempt in Sunday's 31-10 win over the Bears. He made all four of his PAT attempts.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein showed off his impressive leg strength in the final minute of the first half, connecting from 57 yards out with plenty of height to spare while kicking through a steady rain. Given the conditions, his miss from 53 with the game well in hand in the fourth was forgivable. Prior to Zuerlein's first official attempt, he lined up for a 36-yard field goal, but punter Braden Mann fumbled on the hold and threw the ball away for an incomplete pass. With New York's offense trending up after Mike White's insertion at quarterback, Zuerlein could be an intriguing Week 13 option against the Vikings.
Nov 20, 2022
Nails tough field goal
Zuerlein connected on his lone field-goal attempt from 45 yards out in Sunday's 10-3 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein's game-tying kick in the second quarter was originally from 40 yards. He aimed it outside the upright, but the strong crosswind blew it in between the goal posts. Unfortunately for Zuerlein, the Jets were whistled for delay of game on the play, but the veteran kicker executed the same plan from 45 yards out to provide New York's only points of the afternoon. Zuerlein's likely to be busier in Week 12, when the 6-4 Jets host the 3-8 Bears.
Nov 7, 2022
Kicks game winner against Bills
Zuerlein made both of his field-goal attempts and converted both PAT tries in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein's 53-yard field goal in the first quarter found a way to knuckle in despite some windy conditions at MetLife Stadium. His 28-yard attempt with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth was less adventurous but just as significant, as that kick broke a 17-17 tie before a defensive stand on Buffalo's ensuing possession clinched the victory for the Jets.
Oct 30, 2022
Misses FG in Week 8 loss
Zuerlein made one of two field-goal attempts and converted both PAT attempts in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
With the Jets reeling after having a pick-six erased by a penalty, Zuerlein had a chance to stem the bleeding with a game-tying 45-yard field goal, but he instead added to the Patriots' momentum by missing. That miss overshadowed Zuerlein's successful 28-yard field goal in the first quarter. He has missed three field goals and one PAT through eight games for New York.
Oct 24, 2022
Perfect at altitude
Zuerlein connected on all three of his field-goal attempts and made his only PAT try in Sunday's 16-9 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
With a long of 45 yards, Zuerlein didn't need any help from the altitude in Denver, but he did well to navigate windy conditions better than the Broncos' Brandon McManus, who missed a field goal and a PAT. All told, Zuerlein has made all but two of his 15 field-goal attempts and 16 of 17 PAT attempts for the 5-2 Jets.
Oct 16, 2022
Hits two of three in rain
Zuerlein made two of three field-goal attempts and all three of his PAT attempts in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein sandwiched a miss from 53 yards out between makes from 32 and 23 in rainy conditions at Lambeau Field. Considering the Packers had a field goal blocked and each team blocked or deflected a punt, Zuerlein's ability to reliably make chip shots proved crucial in the Jets' well-rounded win.
Oct 9, 2022
Makes six kicks in TD-fest
Zuerlein made his only field-goal attempt from 34 yards out and all five of his PAT tries in Sunday's 40-17 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
The Jets only settled for one field goal as Miami struggled to stop the run in close, allowing five rushing touchdowns to New York. Since starting quarterback Zach Wilson returned from a preseason knee injury, New York has gone 2-0 while scoring 32.0 points per game. Zuerlein has made both his field-goal attempts and eight PATs over that span.
Oct 2, 2022
Accurate since shaky debut
Zuerlein made his only field-goal attempt and all three of his PAT attempts in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein has made all six of his field-goal attempts and all seven PAT tries over the past three games following a rocky Jets debut in which he missed one of each. New York continued to move the ball reasonably well in quarterback Zach Wilson's (knee) season debut, so fantasy managers who had been relying on Zuerlein with Joe Flacco leading New York's offense should feel comfortable continuing to do so with Wilson under center.
Sep 25, 2022
Busy and effective in Week 3
Zuerlein made all four of his field-goal attempts in Sunday's 27-12 loss to Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
New York moved the ball well but couldn't get into the end zone, settling for field goals of 50, 40, 52 and 43 yards. If Zuerlein can continue to convert reliably from 50-plus yards, he should have some sneaky fantasy value on a Jets offense with enough playmakers to get into scoring range.
Sep 19, 2022
Nails 57-yarder in win
Zuerlein made his only field-goal attempt from 57 yards and converted all four of his PAT tries in Sunday's 31-30 win over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
A questionable holding penalty on the final play of the third quarter backed the Jets up to the edge of field-goal range, but Zuerlein hit the game-tying field goal from 57 yards in the first minute of the fourth. He also made every PAT, which proved crucial in a game the Jets won by one point thanks in part to a missed Browns PAT. After a shaky New York debut, Zuerlein earned himself some more job security with this outing.
Sep 11, 2022
Misses first kick as Jet
Zuerlein made one of two field-goal attempts and missed his only PAT try in Sunday's 24-9 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
After the Ravens took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, Zuerlein had a chance to tie the game early in the second from 45 yards out. He missed it, and the Jets never recovered. Zuerlein later connected from the same distance just before halftime but failed to convert a PAT in the fourth quarter to add to his inauspicious debut. While he probably won't be on the hot seat after just one week, Zuerlein's job security is quickly diminishing.
Aug 29, 2022
Nails 49-yarder
Zuerlein made his only field-goal attempt from 49 yards and converted all four of his PAT attempts in Sunday's 31-27 preseason win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein showed off the mix of accuracy and power that helped him beat out Eddy Pineiro in New York's training camp kicking competition. The veteran kicker could be busy in 2022 on a Jets offense with enough weapons to move the ball but a lack of established red-zone producers to finish off drives.
Aug 23, 2022
Wins kicking battle
Zuerlein is the lone kicker on the Jets roster with the team releasing Eddy Pineiro on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein was the favorite and ultimately wins the job. He still has a strong leg, but the volume he saw in past seasons with the Rams and Cowboys may be a thing of the past. Count Zuerlein among the many whose value depends on improvement from second-year quarterback Zach Wilson, who likely will miss the start of the season after having meniscus surgery in mid-August.
Aug 23, 2022
Edge in kicking battle
Zuerlein remains the favorite to be the starting kicker for the Jets in 2022, Billy Riccette of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein continues to have the edge over Eddy Pineiro in the Jets' kicking battle as the preseason heads into its final week. The 34-year-old signed a deal with the team in March after he went 29-for-35 on field goals last season with the Cowboys.
Aug 4, 2022
Favorite to win kicking battle
Zuerlein (toe) is considered to have an early leg up over Eddy Piniero for the Jets' starting kicker job, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein missed Wednesday's practice with a sore toe, but he is not expected to miss much time due to this issue. The 34-year-old went 4-for-4 on field-goal attempts during practice Monday, and his longevity should give him a distinct advantage to take over the starting kicker duties for his fourth NFL team.
Aug 3, 2022
Has sore toe
Zuerlein (toe) did not kick at all Wednesday, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein's injury does not appear to be a serious one, as head coach Robert Saleh expects him to be back by Saturday. The 34-year-old joined the Jets in March after being cut by the Cowboys.
Mar 26, 2022
Inks deal with Jets
Zuerlein signed a contract with the Jets on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein knocked home 29 of his 35 field-goal attempts for the Cowboys last season, but Dallas elected to release the veteran earlier this month. Zuerlein may not have a completely clear path to the kicking job after Eddie Pieiro connected on all 17 of his kicks over his five games for the Jets last year, but he should have a decent shot.
Mar 11, 2022
Cut by Cowboys
Zuerlein has been released by the Cowboys, Nick Eatman of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys also announced Friday that tight end Blake Jarwin (hip) was waived/injured, with the moves freeing up cap space for the franchise leading up to free agency. Per Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News, Dallas now seems likely to replace Zuerlein -- who was approaching the final year of his contract -- with a more affordable option. In 16 games this past season, Zuerlein went 29-for-35 on field-goal attempts (82.9 percent) and 42-for-48 on extra-point tries (87.5 percent) en route to recording 129 points.
Jan 11, 2022
Shanks PAT in win
Zuerlein converted his only field-goal attempt and six of seven extra points in Saturday's win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
The veteran kicker saw more than enough volume to still have a productive week from a fantasy perspective, but he still missed a kick for the third time in the last four weeks. Zuerlein wraps up the regular season having gone 29-for-35 on FGs (82.9 percent) and 42-for-48 on PATs (87.5 percent), leaving him 12th in the league in total scoring with 129 points, but his inconsistency is a concern for the Cowboys heading into the playoffs.
Jan 3, 2022
Misses crucial FG in loss
Zuerlein missed his only field goal attempts and converted both his extra points in Sunday's 25-22 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
He hooked a 43-yard attempt wide to the left midway through the first quarter, a miss that wound up being the margin of victory for Arizona after Dak Prescott led a fourth-quarter rally for Dallas. Zuerlein has missed 11 kicks in total this year, six field goals and five extra points, and it wouldn't be surprising if the team moved on from the veteran in the offseason.
Dec 27, 2021
Makes eight PATs in win
Zuerlein didn't get a field-goal attempt and connected on all eight of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 56-14 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
With the Dallas offense finding itself again in Week 16, Zuerlein did not get an opportunity to attempt any field goals in the contest. The veteran kicker was perfect on his extra-point attempts, scoring eight of the team's 56 points in the blowout win. Zuerlein will look to improve upon his performance in what could be a high-scoring matchup with the Cardinals in Week 17.
Dec 20, 2021
Rough day Sunday
Zuerlein connected on all three of his field-goal attempts but missed both his extra points in Sunday's win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The missed PATs didn't matter in a 21-6 victory, but it continued a pattern of erratic performances for Zuerlein that has left him with an 83.9 percent (26-for-31) success rate on extra points this season and an 84.8 percent mark (28-for-33) on field goals. While the veteran kicker has one more year left on his current contract, don't be surprised if Dallas looks for a replacement in the offseason.
Dec 13, 2021
Automatic again Sunday
Zuerlein connected on all four of his field-goal attempts and his only extra point in Sunday's win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
The veteran kicker has been perfect the last two weeks after missing a FG and a PAT in a loss to the Raiders on Thanksgiving. Zuerlein has booted multiple field goals in four straight games and seven of his last eight, giving him a strong fantasy floor heading into a Week 15 tilt against the Giants.
Dec 3, 2021
Perfect in Thursday's win
Zuerlein connected on both his field goals and all three of his PATs in Thursday's 27-17 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Both FGs came in the second quarter, from 55 and 34 yards out, to give the Cowboys a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Zuerlein has booted multiple field goals in three straight games and six of his last seven, giving him a solid floor heading into a Week 14 clash with Washington.
Nov 30, 2021
Misses two kicks
Zuerlein missed one of three field-goal attempts and one of two extra-point tries in Week 12's 36-33 overtime loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein went wide left on his first PAT, then hit the left upright with a 59-yard field goal in the second quarter. Although he subsequently converted field goals from 29 and 45 yards in the second half, his extra-point miscue ultimately contributed toward the game going to overtime. The veteran will aim to eliminate any similar mistakes in Week 13 versus the Saints.
Nov 22, 2021
Accounts for only offense in loss
Zuerlein connected on all three of his field goal attempts in Sunday's 19-9 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
The three successful FGs tied Zuerlein's season high as he made his return from the COVID-19 list, but he failed to see a PAT for the second straight contest as he missed the Week 10 big win over Atlanta. The veteran kicker could struggle to get consistent opportunities again in a Thanksgiving Day clash against the Raiders with Amari Cooper (COVID-19) already ruled out and CeeDee Lamb (concussion), Ezekiel Elliott (knee) and Tyron Smith (ankle) all iffy for the Dallas offense.
Nov 18, 2021
Activated off COVID-19 list
Zuerlein was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein missed last week's win over the Falcons while in the league's COVID-19 protocols, but the veteran kicker is back in the fold ahead of Sunday's visit to Kansas City. Lirim Hajrullahu was elevated from the practice squad to fill in for Zuerlein last week but is no longer on Dallas' active roster.
Nov 17, 2021
Expected back Thursday
Zuerlein (undisclosed) is expected to be activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Jori Epstein of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein will be eligible to suit up for Sunday's road matchup against the Chiefs if he indeed returns to the active roster Thursday, but for now his status still needs to be monitored. The Cowboys would likely once again call Lirim Hajrullahu up from the practice squad in the event that Zuerlein needs more time.
Nov 13, 2021
Not activated off IR
Zuerlein was not activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list and will not play Sunday against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
The team opted to elevate Lirim Hajrullahu as Zuerlein's replacement, setting the rookie kicker up to make his first ever career start. Zuerlein will next be eligible to play Week 11 against the Chiefs.
Nov 9, 2021
Goes on COVID-19 list
The Cowboys placed Zuerlein on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Rob Phillips of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The report doesn't disclose whether Zuerlein's placement on the list as a result of a positive test of the virus or due to exposure to an infected person, but at least for the time being, the Cowboys will have to plan for the kicker not being available for Sunday's game against the Falcons. According to The Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys are set to hold workouts for multiple kickers Wednesday with the hope of settling on one as a potential replacement for Zuerlein, who has converted on 14 of 18 field-goal attempts and 21 of 23 extra-point tries this season.
Nov 8, 2021
Shut out in Sunday's loss
Zuerlein failed to get a field goal or PAT opportunity in Sunday's loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Nothing better reflected the Cowboys' awful performance on offense than the fact their kicker got blanked -- by the time Dallas scored their first TD of the game inside the final five minutes of the fourth quarter, Denver had a 30-0 lead and the Cowboys went for two-pointers. Zuerlein had attempted multiple FGs and PATs in each of the prior three contests, so look for him to rebound in Week 10 against the Falcons.
Nov 2, 2021
Eight points in win
Zuerlein connected on two of three field goal attempts and both his PATs in Sunday's win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
He misfired on a 43-yard FG attempt on the Cowboys' first possession of the night, but Zuerlein was perfect after that in a 20-16 victory. The veteran kicker has booted multiple field goals in three straight games and five of seven to begin the season, giving him a strong fantasy floor, and his ceiling is elite with Dak Prescott (calf) expected to rejoin the lineup for a Week 9 clash with the Broncos.
Oct 18, 2021
Productive again Sunday
Zuerlein connected on three of four field goals and both his PATs in Sunday's overtime win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
The veteran kicker hooked a 51-yard field-goal attempt wide left inside the final three minutes of the game that would have given the Cowboys a 23-21 lead, but Zuerlein's miss was quickly forgotten when Trevon Diggs took an INT to the house on the ensuing possession for the Pats, setting up a wild finish to an eventual 35-29 victory. Heading into a Week 7 bye and with Buffalo's Tyler Bass still to play Monday night, Zuerlein sits second in the NFL in scoring with 55 points on 12 made FGs and 19 PATs.
Oct 4, 2021
Doesn't miss in Sunday's win
Zuerlein connected on his only field-goal attempt and all three of his extra points in Sunday's win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
He calmly drilled a 37-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter for the Cowboys' final points of the afternoon, but Zuerlein wasn't asked to do too much before that. Despite the fact Dallas is averaging 31.5 points a game, fourth in the league, most of that production has come in the end zone -- Zuerlein has only six FGs (on eight attempts) through four weeks compared to a 12-for-14 showing on PATs. Those with fantasy shares in the kicker will hope for just a little less efficiency from Dak Prescott and company in Week 5 against the Giants.
Sep 28, 2021
Misses PAT in rout
Zuerlein didn't get a field-goal attempt and connected on five of six extra points in Monday's 41-21 win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
The veteran kicker missed his PAT midway through the second quarter, but the Cowboys were already ahead 20-7 at that point. Zuerlein has missed four kicks in total through three games, two extra points and two field goals, but the volume provided him by the Dallas offense gives him a solid weekly floor heading into a Week 4 clash with the Panthers.
Sep 21, 2021
Drills game-winner Sunday
Zuerlein connected on both his extra points and both his field goal attempts Sunday, including a 56-yarder as time expired in the fourth quarter of a 20-17 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
The veteran kicker had a shaky Week 1 after missing the entire preseason while recuperating from back surgery, shanking two FGs and one PAT, but Greg the Leg appeared to be back in peak form Sunday. A healthy Zuerlein should be among the top fantasy options at his position this season given how potent the Dallas offense is expected to be most weeks.
Sep 10, 2021
Uneven performance in opener
Zuerlein connected on three of five field-goal attempts and two of three extra-point attempts in Thursday's loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein, who spent the majority of training camp on the PUP list with a back injury, started off the night by connecting on his first PAT of the season. However, things got shaky after that. He pulled his next attempt -- a 31-yard field goal -- far left and missed an extra point that would have tied the game at 14. After missing two kicks in a row, Zuerlein was summoned at the end of the half for a 60-yard attempt. While it faded short and to the left, the 33-year-old gave it a ride and it appeared to give him some confidence going into the second half. Zuerlein went 2-for-2 on field goals in the second half -- including a 48-yard attempt to give Dallas the lead with a minute and a half left to go in the game.
Aug 25, 2021
Activated from PUP
Zeurlein (back) was activated from the PUP list Wednesday and should play in Sunday's preseason game against the Jaguars, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This is the second time Zuerlein has spent an offseason rehabbing from back surgery. He rebounded strong the first time, in 2018, converting 87.1 percent of field-goal attempts and 97.2 percent of PATs (though he did miss five games with a groin injury). The 33-year-old doesn't quite have the same leg strength at this point in his career, but he should still be a productive fantasy kicker as long as the Cowboys can keep QB Dak Prescott on the field.
Aug 18, 2021
Remains on track for Week 1
Coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that Zuerlein (back) is still on track for Week 1, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys' decision to sign kicker Lirim Hajrullahu has to do with Hunter Niswander "having an issue," per McCarthy, rather than any setback for Zuerlein. Zuerlein has recently ramped up his workload while recovering from offseason back surgery, including handling some kicking reps at practice. Dallas' roster moves all through the offseason have reflected confidence in Zuerlein's chances of suiting up Sept. 9 at Tampa Bay for the regular-season opener.
Aug 14, 2021
Has successful pregame workout
Zuerlein (back) expects to be "100 percent on all cylinders" for Week 1 at Arizona, The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein increased his workload this week, with individual kicking drills away from the field translating to kicks at Wednesday's practice. He then had a "smooth" workout prior to Friday's preseason game. Offseason back surgery delayed Zuerlein's introduction to training camp, but the lack of another kicker on the roster implies the Cowboys' commitment to the 10th-year pro.
Aug 11, 2021
Fits in on-field work
Zuerlein (back) attempted kicks at Wednesday's practice, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports
ANALYSIS
This marks Zuerlein's first on-field work of training camp as he continues to put offseason back surgery further in the rear-view mirror. Special teams coordinator John Fassel told Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday that Zuerlein will need "about three or four weeks" to return to normal, giving him a great shot to be available for the Cowboys' season opener Thursday, Sept. 9 at Tampa Bay. In the meantime, Dallas will entrust placekicking to punter Hunter Niswander during exhibition season.
Aug 10, 2021
Gets back into it
Special teams coordinator John Fassel said Tuesday that Zuerlein (back) has begun kicking individually, with the aim to "be 100 percent" for Week 1 at Tampa Bay, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Fassel is of the belief Zuerlein will require "about three or four weeks" to get back to normal, which conveniently lands between the end of the preseason and start of the regular season. Zuerlein is easing into it after undergoing offseason surgery on his back, which is the latest in a medical history of such injuries. The Cowboys clearly are confident in Zuerlein being available Week 1, considering they haven't rostered another kicker during training camp and instead have rolled out punter Hunter Niswander to handle placekicking and kick attempts.
Jul 22, 2021
Rehabbing from back surgery
Zuerlein has been placed on the PUP list due to offseason back surgery, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 33-year-old kicker has a history of back problems, including Dec. 2017 surgery to repair a herniated disk. Even so, the Cowboys head into training camp without another kicker on the roster, giving us a strong hint that they expect Zuerlein to be ready for Week 1. For now, backup punter Hunter Niswander can work with the FG and kickoff units in practice while Zuerlein finishes up his rehab process.
Jul 22, 2021
Placed on PUP list
The Cowboys are putting Zuerlein (back) on the PUP list to start training camp, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While there hasn't been any report of offseason surgery, Zuerlein does have a history of back injuries, including some appearances on the Cowboys' practice reports in the second half of last season. However, the 33-year-old has played 16 games in back-to-back seasons, and he could reclaim his past status as a top-five fantasy kicker if the Cowboys offense picks up where it left off before Dak Prescott (leg) suffered a season-ending injury last year. Zuerlein is the only kicker on the Cowboys' roster, so they'll need to sign someone else for training camp -- or use backup punter Hunter Niswander as a temporary kicker -- if Greg the Leg isn't ready to practice within the next few days.
Jan 9, 2021
Bounces back with Dallas
Zuerlein connected on 34 of 41 field-goal attempts and 33 of 36 extra points over 16 games for the Cowboys in 2020.
ANALYSIS
In his first season for a team other than the Rams, the veteran kicker rebounded from a rough 2019, setting a new career high with 41 FG attempts while converting them at better than 80 percent for the fourth time in the last five years. Zuerlein has two more seasons left on the contract he signed last offseason, and he's given Dallas little reason to go looking for a replacement.
Dec 28, 2020
Perfect afternoon in big win
Zuerlein connected on all three of his field-goal attempts and all four of his extra points in Sunday's win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
The veteran kicker has delivered double-digit points in three straight games, something he'd done only three times in his first 11 games as a Cowboy. Zuerlein will try to stay locked in and help kick Dallas to a possible division title in Week 17 against the Giants.
Dec 21, 2020
Big day in wild win
Zuerlein converted two of his three field-goal attempts and all five of his extra points in Sunday's 41-33 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
His 60-yard attempt at the end of the first half drifted wide right, but otherwise Zuerlein took full advantage of his largest volume of the season, as the Cowboys scored 40 or more points for the first time since Dak Prescott (ankle) got hurt. The veteran kicker has seen at least three FG attempts in four straight games and six of the last seven, giving him significant upside in Week 16's clash with the Eagles.
Dec 14, 2020
Perfect day against Cincy
Zuerlein converted all three of his field-goal attempts and all three of his extra points in Sunday's win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Three early Cincy fumbles gave the Cowboys plenty of extra possessions, and after a rough night in Baltimore last week, Zuerlein didn't waste any of his opportunities this time around. He's kicked at least three FGs in four of the last six games, and he could be busy again in Week 15's clash with the 49ers.
Dec 9, 2020
Awful night in Baltimore
Zuerlein missed three of his four field-goal attempts and connected on both his extra points in Tuesday's loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
The nine points he left on the table didn't ultimately matter in a 34-17 defeat, but it was still a dreadful performance from the veteran kicker. Zuerlein missed from 40, 53 and 52 yards on three straight attempts, but it may have just been one of those nights in Baltimore, as even the normally ultra-reliable Justin Tucker missed a 36-yarder. The Dallas offense has been handing him plenty of opportunities lately -- Zuerlein's attempted at least three FGs in four of the last five games -- but his inability to convert consistently puts his fantasy utility on shaky ground.
Nov 27, 2020
Perfect in Thanksgiving loss
Zuerlein connected on all three of his field-goal attempts and his only PAT in Thursday's loss to Washington.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys' offense stalled repeatedly in the red zone thanks in large part to Washington's pass rush, and Zuerlein's longest field goal of the afternoon went for only 33 yards. The team's Week 13 matchup could feature more of the same on the road against the Ravens, potentially making the veteran kicker a solid fantasy option even if Dallas struggles as a whole.

Active Thursday
Zuerlein (back) is active for Thursday's game against Washington.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein was limited in practice Monday through Wednesday, but a cloud remained over his head in advance of this contest. No matter, he's suiting up versus the Football Team's ninth-ranked scoring defense (22.7 points per game).

Questionable for Thursday
Zuerlein (back) is officially listed as questionable for Thursday's game against Washington, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein put together a trio of limited practices on a short week, and coach Mike McCarthy has said that he doesn't expect the kicker to miss Thursday's game. The Cowboys also still haven't made a move to sign another kicker to the practice squad for emergency depth, which appears to reinforce the notion that Zuerlein is on track for Thanksgiving Day.

Listed as limited in practice
The Cowboys listed Zuerlein (back) as a limited practice participant on Tuesday's estimated report, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein has now been listed as limited on both of the Cowboys' first two Week 12 injury reports, but coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that he doesn't think the kicker is in any real danger of missing the team's Thanksgiving Day matchup with Washington, according to Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News. Dallas will unveil its final injury report of the week Wednesday, at which point it will be known whether Zuerlein carries a designation into the contest.

Likely to play Thursday
Coach Mike McCarthy believes Zuerlein (back) will be available Thursday against Washington, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. "He looks to be OK. He was here today," McCarthy said Monday. "I don't see him being in jeopardy of (not) playing on Thursday."
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein tweaked his back during this past Sunday's win at Minnesota at the end of a kickoff. The injury caused the kicker to be listed as limited on Monday's estimated practice report, putting him on track to uphold McCarthy's prediction. Zuerlein will have two more chances to prove his health before the Cowboys either clear him or give him a designation for Week 12.

Battling back injury
Zuerlein (back) was listed as a limited participant on Monday's practice estimate, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
At this time, there's no real concern about Zuerlein's availability for Thursday's game against Washington. The Cowboys don't have a backup kicker on the active roster or the practice squad, so punter Hunter Niswander likely would take over the starting duties if Zuerlein did sit out.

Few opportunities in win
Zuerlein connected on a 19-yard field goal and converted two of three extra-point attempts in Sunday's win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
His PAT on the first of four Dallas touchdowns on the day was blocked, which eventually cost Zuerlein two points as the Cowboys then went for a two-point conversion later in the game to make up for it. The veteran kicker has now missed three of 21 FG attempts and three of 20 extra points, and with the team's offense being just as erratic, Zuerlein remains a risky fantasy option heading into a Week 12 clash with Washington.
Nov 10, 2020
Knocks home five kicks
Zuerlein made all four field goals and his lone extra-point attempt in Sunday's 24-19 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein drilled field goals from 38, 39, 44 and 45 yards to put together a solid day for fantasy managers and keep Dallas in an unexpectedly close game. After connecting on just seven field goals through the first six games, the veteran kicker has added seven more over the past two weeks. The Cowboys will enjoy a Week 10 bye, and Zuerlein could have a decent opportunity in Week 11 against a pitiful Vikings defense.

Shows off leg strength Sunday
Zuerlein connected on three of four field goal attempts in Sunday's 23-9 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
At the end of the first half, the veteran kicker reminded everyone why he was given the nickname Greg "the Leg", drilling a low, line-drive kick that cut through the wind at Lincoln Financial Field and cleared the uprights with room to spare for a 59-yard field goal. It's the first time since Week 3 that Zuerlein has booted multiple field goals in a game, but the Cowboys' sputtering offense may not provide him with many opportunities next week against the Steelers, even if Andy Dalton (concussion) is back under center.

Supplies only Dallas offense Sunday
Zuerlein converted his only field-goal attempt in Sunday's 25-3 loss to Washington.
ANALYSIS
The Dallas offense could get absolutely nothing going behind an injury-ravaged offensive line, especially after rookie seventh-round pick Ben DiNucci was forced into action for Andy Dalton (concussion). The outlook for the entire unit is bleak heading into Week 8's road clash with the Eagles, and Zuerlein -- who hasn't kicked multiple field goals since Week 3 -- seems likely to get limited opportunities once again.

50% on field goals Monday
Zuerlein went 1-for-2 on field goals and converted one extra point Monday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Zuerlein was able to knock through a 34-yard field-goal attempt but was wide right on a 58-yard attempt later in the contest. The veteran is now 9-for-11 on field-goal attempts this season, with both misses coming on kicks over 50 yards.

Boots another game-winner
Zuerlein was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals and 4-for-4 on PATs in Sunday's win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
With the Cowboys down 34-31, Zuerlein came through with FGs of 40 yards and 34 yards inside the final two minutes to secure the victory -- the second time this season he's kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired. The Dallas offense as a whole will likely take a step backwards with Andy Dalton replacing Dak Prescott (ankle) under center, but a less efficient aerial attack could mean more field-goal opportunities for Zuerlein.

Little work in loss
Zuerlein didn't attempt a field goal and connected on both his extra points in Sunday's 49-38 loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
The kicker's lack of activity seems baffling given the final score, but with the Cowboys staring at a 41-14 deficit heading into the fourth quarter, they were forced to go for two-point conversions during their comeback attempt and leave Zuerlein cooling his heels on the sideline. He should get more opportunities in Week 5 against the Giants.

Struggles with PATs on Sunday
Zuerlein connected on both his field-goal attempts but only one of three extra points during Sunday's loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
One of the PATs was blocked, but the other was purely a miss from Zuerlein, who went a perfect 42-for-42 on extra points with the Rams last year and has never missed more than two in an entire season during his career. He'll look to rebound in Week 4 against a Browns team that's given up nearly 30 points a game so far in 2020.
Sep 21, 2020
Boots game-winning FG in Week 2
Zuerlein connected on both his field-goal attempts and all four of his PATs in Sunday's comeback win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
His final kick was clutch, as Zuerlein calmly drilled a 46-yard field goal with zeros on the clock to secure the improbable 40-39 victory. The 32-year-old is off to a solid start to his Dallas tenure, and he should continue to get plenty of scoring opportunities alongside one of the most talent-laden offenses in the NFL.
Sep 14, 2020
Little work in Dallas debut
Zuerlein went 1-for-2 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points in Sunday's loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
The miss was from 53 yards out, but Zuerlein still failed to produce a revenge game against the team that let him walk away in the spring after eight mostly excellent seasons. The Cowboys' offense was expected to be explosive this year, albeit it fizzled with 17 points in Week 1, so there should be more productive days ahead for Zuerlein.

Fellow kicker released
The release of Kai Forbath on Saturday solidifies Zuerlein's status as the Cowboys' top placekicker, Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Forbath performed very capably during his stint with Dallas last season, they Cowboys elected to stick with Zuerlein, whose strong leg led to some productive fantasy seasons during his eight-year tenure with the Rams. The 32-year-old will now be working behind a strong Dallas offense, a context that could help him engineer a bounce-back campaign. Zuerlein made 24 of his 33 field-goal attempts with Los Angeles in 2019, resulting in a career-low 72.7 percent conversion rate.

Exits LA for Dallas
Zuerlein has reached agreement on a three-year, $7.5 million contract with the Cowboys, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Coming off a down season with nine missed field goals, Zuerlein will settle for a contract that leaves him outside the top tier at his position, and he may even need to compete with Kai Forbath -- who recently signed a one-year contract -- for the placekicking job. Zuerlein, the presumptive favorite, still has plenty of leg strength, as evidenced by his five conversions from 50-plus yards for the Rams last season. The 32-year-old primarily struggled on medium-distance kicks, going 5-of-11 in the 40-49 range. The winner between Zuerlein and Forbath should be useful for fantasy purposes, considering Dallas led the NFL in yards (6,904) and field-goal attempts (40) last year.
