Signs to 53-man roster
The Raiders signed Davis off the practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was a first-round pick by Washington in the 2021 Draft but was cut by the new Commanders coaching staff last summer. He's appeared in 54 career regular-season games, logging 8.0 sacks. Davis will provide some depth in Las Vegas.
Aug 24, 2025
Let go by Jets
The Jets released Davis on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Davis re-signed with the team in March but was unable to earn a spot on the final roster. The 2021 first-round pick racked up 18 tackles (12 solo) across nine games with both the Vikings and Commanders last season and will now look to catch on with a new team.
Mar 13, 2025
Re-signs with New York
Davis agreed to a one-year deal with the Jets on Thursday, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis was claimed off waivers by New York in late December and did not appear in a game. The 26-year-old linebacker bounced around the league last year, joining the Vikings after being released by the Commanders earlier in the season. The 2021 first-round pick has hardly played to his draft status thus far and will likely serve as a special teams player for new head coach Aaron Glenn in 2025.
Dec 30, 2024
Picked up by Gang Green
The Jets claimed Davis off waivers Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis, a 2021 first-round pick from Kentucky, was claimed off waivers Monday after being dropped by the Vikings following their Week 16 win over the Seahawks. He's appeared in nine games for the Commanders and Vikings this season, recording 18 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, over just 106 defensive snaps. Now that Davis has linked up with Gang Green, he's expected to serve as a depth piece in the team's linebacker room for the Week 18 matchup against the Dolphins.
Dec 9, 2024
Plays nine defensive snaps Sunday
Davis logged 1.0 sacks in Sunday's 42-21 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Davis was signed off the Packers' practice squad to the Vikings' active roster Nov. 26 to add some depth at inside linebacker. He's played just 13 snaps on defense in his two outings with Minnesota, but he made the most of his opportunities Sunday when he sacked Kirk Cousins for a six-yard loss midway through the second quarter. Davis could see his snap count steadily increase over the next four games as he gets acclimated to the Vikings' defensive playbook.
Dec 9, 2024
Gets first sack of season
Davis had a sack and two total pressures, according to Pro Football Focus, in Sunday's win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Davis played ten snaps on defense as he got some time as a reserve linebacker. The 2021 first-round pick of Washington could be used in clear passing situations to help the pass rush after joining the Vikings Nov. 26 from Green Bay's practice squad after being released by Washington early in the season.
Nov 26, 2024
Headed to Minnesota
The Vikings signed Davis off the Packers' practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
After being cut by the Commanders on Oct. 22, Davis managed to catch on with the Packers' practice squad Oct. 29, though he hasn't been elevated to Green Bay's active roster. Adding Davis to the 53-man roster gives the Vikings much-needed depth at inside linebacker after Ivan Pace (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. While Pace is sidelined, Davis and Brian Asamoah will serve as Minnesota's rotational inside linebackers behind starters Blake Cashman and Kamu Grugier-Hill.
Oct 29, 2024
Catches on with Green Bay
The Packers signed Davis to the practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Davis was released by the Commanders on Oct. 22 after seeing limited playing time on defense across five regular-season games, during which he accumulated 13 tackles (eight solo). Davis gives the Packers additional depth at linebacker, and the 2021 first-round pick could be elevated for Sunday's game against the Lions if starting outside linebacker Quay Walker is unable to clear concussion protocols.
Oct 22, 2024
Cut loose by Washington
The Commanders released Davis on Tuesday, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis, the Commanders' first-round pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, has seen his playing time this season diminish as he regressed to a rotational role behind starting defensive ends Dorance Armstrong (ribs) and Clelin Ferrell. Davis' tenure with Washington will end with 282 combined tackles, including 7.0 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries across 50 regular-season games (including 36 starts). The 25-year-old will explore his options and look for a fresh start elsewhere.
Sep 15, 2024
Not playing Sunday
Davis (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis has started in 28 games for the Commanders over the last two seasons, but he did not start in Week 1 against the Buccaneers and he finished the contest with three tackles (two solo) while playing just 16 snaps (13 on defense, three on special teams). With Washington going to a 3-4 scheme under head coach Dan Quinn, Davis doesn't appear to have an established role in the defense to start the regular season. The 2021 first-round pick's next chance at suiting up will be Week 3 against the Bengals on Sept. 23.

Could take reps at edge rusher
Coach Dan Quinn said Thursday the Commanders are providing Davis (shoulder) an opportunity to compete for edge rusher snaps this offseason, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Quinn said "we're trying to really push [Davis] specifically on the versatility," and that "you'll see him working some with the defensive line, you'll see him working with [pass rush specialist] Ryan Kerrigan on the side." Davis is entering a contract season after having his fifth-year option declined, and the additions of Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu raise questions about the extent of his role. Also contributing as a pass-rusher on at least a rotational basis would help boost Davis' fantasy ceiling in IDP formats. He underwent season-ending shoulder surgery back in December, but it appears that Davis has already resumed taking reps at spring practices.
Apr 25, 2024
Not getting Year 5 option
The Commanders are declining the fifth-year option on Davis' (shoulder) rookie contract, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Washington took Davis with the 19th pick in the 2021 Draft, and while he's started 36 of 45 games through three seasons, his elite athleticism (4.47 40, 42-inch vertical) hasn't translated to elite performance. The 25-year-old likely will be a starter again in 2024 under new coach Dan Quinn, but it won't come as any surprise if this ends up being Davis' final year in Washington. He had season-ending shoulder surgery in December, potentially impacting his participation in spring practices.
Jan 8, 2024
Should be at training camp
Davis is expected to be healthy for training camp after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery in December, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis finished his third season with 89 tackles (50 solo), three sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. The Kentucky product should return to the team healthy next season, with one guaranteed year left on his deal, plus a fifth option year, which the Commanders have until May 2 to exercise.
Dec 13, 2023
Placed on IR
The Commanders placed Davis (shoulder) on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Davis is set to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery after sustaining the injury in Week 13 against the Dolphins. The 2021 first-round pick out of Kentucky will finish the season with 89 tackles (50 solo), including three sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles in 13 games.
Dec 11, 2023
Undergoes surgey
Davis will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery for an injury suffered during a Week 13 loss to the Dolphins, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis was on pace to notch career-best totals across the board in his third NFL season, but unfortunately, for the Kentucky product, his 2023 campaign will end early. He'll finish the year with 13 games played, 89 tackles (50 solo), three sacks, four passes defended, an interception and two forced fumbles. He'll now turn his attention toward his recovery and being ready for the 2024 campaign.
Dec 5, 2023
Has another good showing Sunday
Davis recorded eight tackles (five solo) and a pass defensed in Sunday's 45-15 loss versus the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Davis managed to tally seven-plus total tackles for the sixth time in his last eight games in Week 13. He's on pace for a career season in that category, making him a viable IDP option for Week 15 after the Commanders' bye in Week 14.
Nov 21, 2023
Gets to quarterback Sunday
Davis recorded seven tackles (five solo) including a sack in Sunday's 31-19 loss versus the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Davis sidestepped Saquon Barkley to get home on a blitz for his third sack of the season in Week 11, adding to a solid fantasy performance. He's on pace for his second straight 100-plus tackle year, making him a reasonable IDP consideration heading into Thursday at Dallas.
Nov 14, 2023
Ties season-high tackle total
Davis logged 11 tackles (six solo) in the Commanders' Week 10 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Davis' tackle tally was enough for a game-high and tied his highest total of the season. He played all 74 defensive snaps, which marked his third consecutive game doing so. The linebacker will look to carry the momentum of his productive play into Washington's Week 11 matchup with the Giants.
Nov 6, 2023
Leading tackler in win
Davis had nine tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Davis has seen his defensive snap share steadily climb over the course of the season and he's played every single defensive snap in each of the last two games. He's now third on the team with 57 total tackles behind safety Kamren Curl (71) and linebacker Cody Barton (61).
Sep 26, 2023
Double-digit tackles vs. Bills
Davis recorded 11 tackles (six solo) and a pass defensed in Sunday's 37-3 loss versus Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
It was a very rough day for Washington, but not as much so for Davis, who logged season highs in both snaps and tackles in Week 3. He also put himself on pace for a 100-plus tackle season, and he should get plenty more opportunities to defend against the run at Philadelphia in Week 4.
Sep 12, 2023
Six tackles in victory
Davis compiled six tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 20-16 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Davis was busy in Week 1, finishing second to only to Kamren Curl (10) for the team lead in tackles. The linebacker increased his production across the board in 2022 after his rookie campaign in 2021 and he'll look to do the same now in year three.
Aug 31, 2023
Gets 2024 appeal date
Davis' appeal of a reckless driving conviction is set for March 3, 2024, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis is thus unlikely to be suspended before the 2024 season, if at all. He hasn't quite been what the Commanders hoped for when taking him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but Davis still has a starting job heading into his third season and could be a useful IDP if he has a three-down role again.
Jul 26, 2023
Good to go
Davis (knee) has been on the field at Commanders camp getting his legs back under him.
ANALYSIS
Davis has been dealing with a knee injury since the end of the 2022 season, but he has since had the offseason to move past the issue. The 2021 first-round pick told reporters Wednesday that he's "just getting back up to speed and getting back rolling." Over his first two seasons in the league, the Kentucky product has logged 32 appearances, leading to 180 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. Expect Davis to be starting at linebacker again for Washington ahead of the coming year.
May 24, 2023
Underwent procedure
Davis had a clean-up procedure on his knee earlier this off-season and will only participate in walkthroughs during OTAs, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis ended his season on IR after suffering a knee injury during a Week 17 loss to the Cowboys last season. The 24-year-old finished his second season in the league with 16 games played, 104 tackles (68) solo, three sacks and two fumble recoveries. He'll continue working to be ready to return by training camp.
Jan 7, 2023
Shifted to IR
The Commanders placed Davis (knee) on injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Davis apparently picked up a knee injury during the Week 17 loss to Cleveland, as he was previously considered questionable to play in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Cowboys. While the nature of this issue is still unclear, the second-year linebacker will now finish the 2022 campaign on IR. Davis logged 104 tackles, three sacks and a pass defended across 16 games this season, so his absence will leave Washington's injury-riddled linebacker corps with three available players between Milo Eifler, David Mayo and Khaleke Hudson.
Jan 6, 2023
Dealing with knee injury
Davis (knee) is questionable to play Sunday versus the Cowboys, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis led the team in tackles last week versus the Browns, but he appears to have left the contest a little worse for wear, picking up a knee injury in the loss. If the linebacker is unable to go in Week 18, Khaleke Hudson could step into a starting role at outside linebacker in the the Commanders' season finale.
Jan 3, 2023
Paces tackling in loss
Davis record nine tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 24-10 defeat against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Davis kept up his prominent role as a tackler over the middle of Washington's defense, as he continued to play every defensive snap Week 17. The second-year linebacker opened the season in a rotational role, though he stepped up as the team's primary off-ball linebacker after Cole Holcomb picked up a season-ending foot injury ahead of Week 8. As a result, Davis has emerged as the team's leading tackler with 104 on the season, and he has now logged at least eight tackles in each of the last five games. Expect Davis to once again play a prominent role Week 18 against Dallas.
Dec 27, 2022
Tackling spree continues
Davis logged eight tackles (six solo) in Saturday's 37-20 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Davis now has a team-leading 95 stops on the campaign, while he's also recorded at least eight tackles in five out of the Commanders' last six games. Next up for the second-year linebacker is the New Year's Day matchup against Cleveland, where he'll likely continue operating in his usual every-down role.
Dec 20, 2022
Notches nine tackles in loss
Davis recorded nine tackles (six solo) Sunday in a Week 15 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Davis just missed finishing with double-digit tackles for the third straight game, but he still had a strong performance and finished second on Washington in stops. The recent production has given Davis is a solid IDP floor, especially since he's been on the field for every Washington defensive snap since Week 10. Davis' 87 total tackles on the campaign have already surpassed the 76 stops he recorded as a rookie last year.
Dec 14, 2022
Ready for Sunday
Davis (thumb) logged a full practice Wednesday, Sam Fortier of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis underwent a procedure on his thumb at some point during the team's Week 14 bye. Whatever the issue was, the second-year pro has recovered quickly and should take the field Sunday against the Giants.
Dec 13, 2022
Undergoes procedure
Davis had a procedure on his thumb, but he "should be fine," according to head coach Ron Rivera, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear when Davis had the procedure, as the Commanders were on a bye during Week 14. It's also unclear when he may have suffered the injury, as Davis has played 100 percent of the team's defensive snaps in each of their last five games. The 24-year-old is enjoying a strong second-year campaign, so his potential ability to suit up Sunday against the Giants would certainly be good news for Washington.
Dec 7, 2022
Double-digit tackles in tie
Davis registered 10 tackles (seven solo), a fumble recovery and a tackle for loss in the 20-20 tie Sunday against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Davis finished with double-digit tackles for the second straight week and played every snap for the fifth time in the past six weeks. The second-year linebacker also recovered a Daniel Jones fumble early in the game which led to a field goal. Davis' playing time and production has continued to increase since Cole Holcomb injured his foot Week 7, and with Holcomb ruled out for the rest of the year Tuesday, Davis should continue to see increased playing time.
Nov 28, 2022
Double-digit stops in win
Davis registered 10 tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 19-13 victory versus the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Davis set a new season-high in tackles while playing every defensive snap for the fourth time in the past five games. The 2021 first-round pick also made an immediate impact Week 12, as he logged five stops on Atlanta's opening drive of the game. Davis has now recorded 35 tackles, one pass defended and one fumble recovery over the last five weeks, and he should continue to see increased playing time after starting middle linebacker Cole Holcomb (foot) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Nov 16, 2022
Season-high nine stops
Davis recorded nine tackles (five solo) and a fumble recovery during Sunday's 32-21 win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Davis logged a team high in tackles during this terrific performance for Washington's defense. The linebacker nearly picked up a scoop-and-score fumble early in the fourth quarter, though this recovery was later called back to the Philadelphia 34-yard line. Davis also played every defensive snap for the second time in the past three games, and he'll likely play an every-down role if team-leading tackler Cole Holcomb (foot) sits out for the fourth straight game this coming Sunday against Houston.
Nov 1, 2022
Six stops Sunday
Davis recorded six tackles (five solo), including one tackle for loss, during Sunday's 17-16 win versus the Colts.
ANALYSIS
The 2021 first-round pick played every defensive snap for the first this season with fellow linebacker Cole Holcomb (foot) sidelined Sunday. As a result, Davis logged six tackles for the third time over his eight contests in 2022, and he should continue to wrack up consistent stat lines while playing in a starting role this season.
Sep 27, 2022
Two sacks in loss
Davis recorded six tackles (five solo) and two sacks in Sunday's 24-8 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Davis notched a season high in tackles Sunday and has totaled three sacks over the last two games. As a rookie, the 2021 first-round pick managed 76 stops and one sack across 16 appearances (559 defensive snaps), but he's seized a much larger role to start the 2022 campaign and could easily been in store for a career year if he stays healthy.
Dec 30, 2021
Not on injury report
Davis (illness) isn't listed on the injury report for Wednesday's practice session.
ANALYSIS
Davis was inactive for Sunday's game against Dallas due to an illness, but he wasn't limited by the issue during the team's first practice session of the week. He'll likely be available to start Sunday against Philadelphia.
Dec 26, 2021
Inactive against Dallas
Davis is inactive for Sunday's game against the Cowboys due to an illness, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis had symptoms in line with COVID-19 prior to Sunday's matchup, and Washington's team doctors weren't able to process a test prior to the game. The linebacker will be unavailable out of an abundance of caution, which should allow Jordan Kunaszyk and De'Jon Harris to see additional playing time.
Dec 12, 2021
Ready to play Sunday
Davis (concussion) is active for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Washington listed Davis as questionable heading into the weekend even though he practiced fully Friday, but he was apparently able to get the green light from an independent neurologist in order to play, the final step of the NFL's five-step concussion protocol. The rookie thus looks on track to start at middle linebacker, coming off a Week 13 outing against the Raiders in which he logged six tackles while playing 91 percent of the defensive snaps.
Dec 12, 2021
Likely available for Week 14
Davis (concussion) is expected to play in Sunday's contest against the Cowboys, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis landed in concussion protocol following the team's Week 13 win over the Raiders, but he made a quick turnaround and was able to return to practice this week. The rookie first-round pick has recorded 52 tackles across his first 12 NFL appearances.
Dec 10, 2021
Questionable for Sunday
Davis (concussion) is questionable for Sunday's contest against the Cowboys, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis landed in concussion protocol following Sunday's win over the Raiders, but he made a quick turnaround and was able to practice in a limited fashion Thursday. The rookie first-round pick will need to fully clear protocols before Sunday, but he appears to be trending in the right direction.
Dec 9, 2021
Practices in limited fashion
Davis (concussion) was a limited participant at Thursday's practice, Matthew Paras of The Washington Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis landed in the concussion protocol following Sunday's win over the Raiders, but he appears to be making quick progress. The rookie first-round pick will need to full clear the protocol to have a chance of suiting up versus Dallas this weekend.
Dec 8, 2021
Nursing concussion
Davis is in the concussion protocol Wednesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis did not practice Wednesday, and he will need to gain full clearance from the concussion protocol before returning to game action. As such, his status will need to be monitored ahead of Sunday's divisional contest against Dallas.
Nov 17, 2021
Notches six tackles in victory
Davis recorded six tackles (five solo) in a 29-19 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Davis' six tackles brings his season total to 40. The 19th overall selection of the 2021 Draft has had a solid, yet unspectacular campaign, at least statistically. He'll try to continue building his presence on the Washington defense in Week 11 against the Panthers.
Oct 20, 2021
Breaks out vs. Chiefs
Davis had 11 tackles (five solo) during Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Davis handled a career-high 56 percent of defensive snaps, with Jon Bostic (pectoral) likely out for the season, and he also earned double-digit tackles for the first time. The rookie first-round pick will work to continue building momentum versus the Packers in Week 7.
Oct 6, 2021
Poised for larger role
Davis is in line for a bigger role with Jon Bostic (pectoral) likely sidelined for the rest of the year, Rhiannon Walker of the Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis has played just over 50 percent of the defensive snaps for Washington's defense so far this season, but the rookie is expect to see an even bigger role moving forward. The first-round pick will likely play close to 100 percent of the snaps in Week 5, but his fantasy value may be limited by fellow lineback Cole Holcomb, who has totaled 41 tackles through the first four weeks of the season.
Jul 29, 2021
Getting reps at MLB
Davis played a lot of middle linebacker during Wednesday's practice, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
With Jon Bostic comfortable playing either MLB or weak-side 'backer, Washington figures to give its first-round pick a look in both spots. Davis was a late bloomer at Kentucky, but he had 103 tackles and three interceptions his senior season, before putting up a 4.47 40-yard dash and 42-inch vertical jump at his pro day. He instantly becomes one of the most athletic linebackers in the NFL, joining a defense that was already among the most talented in the league. That doesn't necessarily mean Davis will handle a three-down role or even a starting job, but he at least has a shot to earn it, working with the first-team defense right out of the gate. Coach Ron Rivera even mentioned Davis when he was asked about players who impressed him with retention of what they learned during the offseason program.
