Inks deal with Bills
Phillips and the Bills agreed on a contract Monday, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips will join the Bills after spending the entirety of the offseason as a free agent to this point. He will work out with the team in the interim time period at which they can maintain a 90-man roster, but he is expected to be released and re-signed to Buffalo's practice squad Wednesday. The defensive lineman appeared in seven contests with the Bills in 2024, recording five total tackles (four solo) and an interception.
Apr 26, 2025
South Beach bound
The Dolphins selected Phillips in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 143rd overall.
ANALYSIS
Phillips began his career at Tennessee before transferring to Maryland and becoming a two-year starter. He has a squat, hard-to-move frame at 6-foot-1 and 312 pounds with a strong anchor. Phillips developed a reputation for his work ethic in the weight room and played a high volume of snaps for a defensive tackle. The Dolphins already added Kenneth Grant in the first round, so that will be a hurdle to playing time for Phillips, but he at least gives them some much-needed depth in the middle of the defensive line.
Feb 4, 2025
Sees some action in limited role
Phillips finished with five tackles (four solo) and an interception in seven regular-season games with the Bills in 2024.
ANALYSIS
The defensive tackle signed with Buffalo after getting released by Dallas in November, and he assisted on one tackle in two games with the Cowboys as well. Phillips played on at least 17 percent of the defensive snaps in six of his seven regular-season games with the Bills and in all three of the team's playoff games, making three tackles (one solo), including 1.0 sacks, in the postseason. The second-round pick of the Dolphins in 2015 will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and he last signed a multiyear deal in 2020.
Nov 6, 2024
Joining Bills
Buffalo signed Phillips to a one-year contract Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was released by Dallas on Tuesday, but it didn't take long for him to get another chance with a different team. This will be his third stint with the Bills, for whom he recorded 15 tackles (10 solo) including 2.5 sacks last season.
Nov 5, 2024
Let go by Dallas
The Cowboys released Phillips on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was placed on the Cowboys' injured reserve Sept. 18 due to a wrist injury. He logged full practices in each of the last two weeks, but rather than be reinstated from IR, the 2015 second-round pick will instead be looking to join a team in need of veteran depth at defensive tackle.
Nov 1, 2024
Not returning for Week 9
Phillips (wrist) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup versus Atlanta, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips is making his way back from a wrist injury that landed him on IR on Sept. 18. The defensive tackle was designated to return Oct. 23 and has logged six straight full practices since, but the Cowboys aren't yet ready to activate him. The team has until Nov. 13 to do before his 21-day practice window expires.
Oct 25, 2024
Won't be activated ahead of Week 8
Phillips (wrist) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the 49ers, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips' 21-day window to return from injured reserve opened Wednesday. He was a full practice participant all week, but the Cowboys will err on the side of caution and hold the 2015 second-round pick out for at least one more week. Barring any setbacks, Phillips should be on track to make his return for the Cowboys' Week 9 contest against the Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 3. In the meantime, Linval Joseph and Carlos Watkins will continue to serve as Dallas' backup interior defensive lineman behind starters Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa.
Oct 23, 2024
Designated to return from IR
The Cowboys designated Phillips (wrist) to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was placed on injured reserve Sept. 18 while in the final stages of his recovery from wrist surgery from last season. He was a full participant during Wednesday's practice session, and if he's able to practice without restriction over the next two days, he should be activated off IR ahead of Sunday's game against the 49ers.
Sep 18, 2024
Placed on injured reserve
The Cowboys placed Phillips (wrist) on injured reserve Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips underwent wrist surgery last season while playing for the Bills, but it remains to be seen whether his current injury is related. He'll now be forced to miss at least Dallas' next four games, making Oct. 27 versus the 49ers the earliest possible return date. To help replace Jenkins, the Cowboys inked Carlos Watkins from the Commanders' practice squad.
Aug 14, 2024
Traded to Dallas
The Cowboys acquired Phillips from the Giants Wednesday, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Additionally, Dallas is sending the Giants a sixth-round pick in exchange for Phillips and a seventh-rounder in 2025. The Giants signed Phillips earlier in the offseason after he spent the previous two seasons in Buffalo. Things obviously weren't working in New York, and the G-Men decided to move on ahead of Week 1. Phillips turns 32 next month and has 120 games of experience, including 62 starts. He'll provide interior depth alongside Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa for the Cowboys and new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
Apr 11, 2024
Picked up by the Giants
The Giants signed Phillips (wrist) on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips spent the last two years of his career with the Bills, and he'll stay in New York after agreeing to terms with the Giants on Thursday. The veteran defensive lineman has appeared in 26 games over the past two seasons, recording 35 total tackles, including 4.0 sacks, while also deflecting seven passes. Phillips missed the Bills' final five games last year after sustaining a wrist injury, but once he's able to return to the field, he is expected to serve as one of the Giants' top rotational defensive lineman.
Jan 17, 2024
Won't have window opened yet
Coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that Buffalo doesn't plan to open Phillips' (wrist) 21-day practice window before Sunday's divisional round game against the Chiefs, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips has spent the requisite four games on IR, but the team doesn't feel that he's in a spot to return yet. If Buffalo continues to advance in the postseason, Phillips could be a candidate to rejoin the team in later rounds.
Dec 21, 2023
Officially lands on IR
Buffalo placed Phillips (wrist) on injured reserve Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Phillips sustained a wrist injury during the Bills' Week 15 win over the Cowboys, and after having surgery Monday, he's been placed on IR. The veteran defensive tackle has appeared in 14 games for Buffalo this season, logging 15 total tackles, including 2.5 sacks and two tackles for loss. With Phillips missing time, Poona Ford is expected to see increased work on the Bills' defensive line.
Dec 21, 2023
IR stint likely
Phillips (wrist) will be placed on injured reserve Thursday, according to head coach Sean McDermott, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips underwent surgery earlier in the week after dislocating his wrist in Sunday's win over the Cowboys. The veteran defensive tackle was optimistic he could be back in time for the playoffs if Buffalo does get in, but a move to IR would at least keep him through the Wild Card round. The Bills will have to turn to Tim Settle, Linval Joseph and Poona Ford for extra snaps while Phillips is sidelined.
Dec 20, 2023
Still sidelined
Phillips (wrist) did not practice Wednesday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips' absence isn't surprising after the veteran defensive tackle suffered a dislocated wrist in Sunday's win over the Cowboys and underwent surgery to repair it. According to Ryan O'Halloran of The Buffalo News, Phillips is hoping to return in time for the playoffs, if the Bills do get in, so he'll likely be sidelined the rest of the week, including Saturday's game against the Chargers.
Dec 19, 2023
Could return for postseason
Phillips (wrist) aims to be ready to suit back up if the Bills make the playoffs, Ryan O'Halloran of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips apparently sustained a dislocated right wrist during Sunday's win versus the Cowboys, so it's impressive there's any lingering optimism that he might come back at some point this season. For now, Tim Settle and Linval Joseph are likely to see increased reps with Phillips out.
Dec 18, 2023
Undergoes wrist surgery
Phillips underwent wrist surgery and is considered week-to-week, Chris Brown of the Bills Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips left Sunday's win versus the Cowboys early with a wrist injury which was apparently serious enough to warrant a surgical procedure. It seems like he's probably on track to miss at least one game, and Tim Settle and Linval Joseph are likely candidates to benefit in terms of snaps.
Dec 17, 2023
Exits game with wrist injury
Phillips (wrist) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Phillips sustained the injury towards the end of the third quarter. He had one sack for the game before exiting. Linval Joseph should see more snaps as the backup defensive tackle while Phillips remains sidelined.
Nov 19, 2023
Ready to go Sunday
Phillips (knee) is active for Sunday's contest against the Jets, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was able to log a full practice Friday and he's now set to let it rip Sunday versus New York. The defensive tackle has recorded four tackles, including a half-sack, over the last two games.
Nov 17, 2023
Questionable to play vs. Jets
Phillips (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Phillips logged a full practice Friday, signaling he's closer to the probable end of the official questionable designation. If he can't play in Week 11 anyways, Poona Ford could be in line to see increased playing time Sunday.
Nov 16, 2023
Limited Thursday
Phillips (knee) was limited in Thursday's practice, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's an upgrade for Phillips after he missed Wednesday's session. Phillip had to briefly exit last Monday night's loss to the Broncos with the injury but was able to return. He should be ready to roll for Sunday's tilt with the division-rival Jets.
Sep 1, 2023
Recovered from injury
Phillips has recovered from a shoulder injury, Joe Buscaglia of the Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips missed the team's first two preseason games as he was recovering from offseason shoulder surgery but is now healthy once again and played nine snaps during the preseason finale. The 30-year-old should provide solid depth on the interior of the defensive line behind Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones.
Aug 12, 2023
Out for preseason opener
Phillips (shoulder) is not suited up for Saturday's exhibition matchup with the Colts, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips underwent offseason shoulder injury and the Bills are seemingly easing him back into the swing of things. His inactive status is not surprising. When healthy, he projects to provide interior depth on the Bills' defensive line.
Aug 6, 2023
Activated by Buffalo
Phillips (undisclosed) was activated from the active/PUP list by the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Phillips dealt with an undisclosed injury to begin training camp, but he appears to be back to full health ahead of Saturday's preseason opener against the Colts. Over 12 appearances with the Bills last year, he tallied 20 tackles (nine solo), including 1.5 sacks, and two pass defenses.
Jul 25, 2023
Moved to PUP list
Phillips (undisclosed) was placed on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips is dealing with an undisclosed injury and will open camp inactive, but the defensive tackle is eligible to return to practice and play at any point this preseason. Buffalo opens their preseason with a matchup versus the Colts at home Aug. 12.
Mar 29, 2023
Re-signs with Buffalo
Phillips (shoulder) agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal with the Bills on Wednesday, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips underwent surgery to repair his torn rotator cuff following the conclusion of the 2022 season, but it appears the Bills are confident the veteran defensive tackle will be healthy by training camp and re-signed him to another one-year deal. Phillips returned to Buffalo, where he played in 2018 and 2019, in 2022, totaling 20 tackles, two pass defenses and 1.5 sacks across 12 appearances (334 defensive snaps). If healthy, he figures to garner a similar rotational role in 2023, though Buffalo could certainly still add more pieces to its defensive line before training camp begins.
Feb 28, 2023
Undergoes rotator cuff surgery
Phillips (shoulder) had surgery to repair his torn rotator cuff after the 2022 season, Michael Giardi of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips, a pending free agent, appeared in 13 games during the 2022 campaign and totaled 21 tackles and 1.5 sacks. It's unclear when he suffered the injury, but he saw a reduced role down the stretch and played just 17 snaps during the Bills' divisional-round loss to Cincinnati.
Jan 23, 2023
Dealing with torn rotator cuff
Phillips has been dealing with a torn rotator cuff and will undergo surgery this offseason, Bridget Condon of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear when Phillips sustained the injury, but the defensive tackle is expected to be ready for training camp this summer following his procedure. The 30-year-old finished the 2022 campaign with 20 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, while also recording two pass deflections over 12 games.
Jan 22, 2023
Will play Sunday
Phillips (shoulder) is active Sunday against the Bengals, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips will return to play after missing the team's wild-card win over the Dolphins. The veteran defensive tackle has also missed multiple games this season due to the injury, but after he was able to log limited practices throughout the week he'll take the field in the divisional round. His return should be a boost to Buffalo's defensive front.
Jan 20, 2023
Listed as questionable
Phillips (shoulder) is questionable for Sunday's divisional-round matchup against the Bengals, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was inactive for the Bills' wild-card win over Miami due to a lingering shoulder injury that has sidelined him since Week 16. The veteran defensive tackle returned to practice this week, but he was a limited participant Wednesday through Friday and is a question mark for Sunday. DaQuan Jones (calf) is also questionable, so Tim Settle and Kendal Vickers could be candidates for increased roles if Jones and Phillips are both ruled out.
Jan 15, 2023
Won't play Sunday
Phillips (shoulder) is inactive for Sunday's wild-card matchup against Miami.
ANALYSIS
Phillips didn't practice Wednesday through Friday due to a lingering shoulder injury that has sidelined him since Week 16, so it's not surprising to see him ultimately inactive. In Phillips' absence, Tim Settle, Kendal Vickers and Eli Ankou will be the backup defensive tackles behind Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones.
Jan 13, 2023
Officially questionable
Phillips (shoulder) is questionable for Sunday's wild-card matchup against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Phillips didn't practice Wednesday through Friday due to a lingering shoulder injury, which has sidelined him since Week 16. Nonetheless, the veteran pass rusher will still have a chance to suit Sunday against the team that drafted him in 2015. Across 12 regular-season appearances with Buffalo, Phillips totaled 20 tackles, two pass defenses and 1.5 sacks while playing a rotational role along the Bills' defensive line.
Jan 12, 2023
Still nursing injury
Phillips (shoulder) was a non-participant in practice Thursday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips has been dealing with a shoulder injury since the Week 12 win over New England, keeping him sidelined until Week 16 versus Chicago. The 30-year-old has now logged back-to-back DNPs during the first week of playoff prep, leaving with just one more opportunity to increase his practice activity before Sunday's wild-card matchup against Miami. Expect Phillips to retain a prominent role alongside defensive tackle Ed Oliver when healthy.
Dec 24, 2022
Will play Saturday
Phillips (shoulder) is active for Saturday's contest in Chicago, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips sat out each of Buffalo's previous two games while dealing with a shoulder injury, but he'll return Week 16 after logging three limited practices. He'll likely return to a rotational role along the defensive line, as he's logged between 40 and 57 percent of Buffalo's defensive snaps in all but one of the games in which he's played this season.
Dec 22, 2022
Could return for Week 16
Phillips (shoulder) is considered questionable for Saturday's game versus Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Phillips has missed the Bills' last two games with tending to a shoulder injury, which kept him limited during each practice of Week 16 prep. With top defensive tackle Ed Oliver (calf) also considered questionable for Saturday's contest, DaQuan Jones and Tim Settle could both be in line for increased roles against Chicago's run-first offense.
Dec 15, 2022
Will remain out
Phillips (shoulder) will not play Saturday against the Dolphins, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips suffered the injury Week 13 against the Patriots and missed Week 14 against the Jets. He'll now miss his second consecutive game with the injury. His absence takes on greater importance as Ed Oliver continues to nurse a pectoral injury that has him currently questionable for Saturday's game with the Jets, which could leave Buffalo without two of their top interior lineman.
Dec 9, 2022
Ruled out for Week 14
Phillips (shoulder) has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Jets, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After suffering a shoulder injury in Week 13 versus the Patriots, Phillips will be forced to miss at least one contest while nursing the injury. In his absence in Week 14, Tim Settle could see a slight uptick in usage on the defensive line. Phillips will now shift his focus to being ready for the Bills' Saturday night matchup with the Dolphins in Week 15.
Dec 1, 2022
Exits late Thursday
Phillips was ruled out before the end of Thursday's game against the Patriots with a shoulder injury, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips went down after attempting to sack Patriots quarterback Mac Jones late in the fourth quarter, and he was able to exit under his own power, according to Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard. While the nature of this injury is unclear, it's possible he was simply ruled out given how little time was left in the contest. Either way, it will be worth monitoring Phillips' status heading into Week 13's contest versus the Jets on Sunday, Dec. 11.
Oct 16, 2022
Playing Sunday
Phillips (hamstring) is active Sunday against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was able to log limited practices all week after aggravating a hamstring injury in Week 5, which forced him to miss multiple games already this season. His ability to suit up will be a boost to the Bills' depth at defensive tackle against Kansas City.
Oct 14, 2022
Deemed questionable for Sunday
Phillips (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Phillips missed back-to-back games due to a hamstring injury but returned to action in Week 5. He briefly left the contest against Pittsburgh in the first half after presumably aggravating the hamstring issue, but he was back in the mix during the second half. Phillips logged three straight limited practices during Week 6 prep and will likely be a game-time decision ahead of Sunday's 4:25 PM ET kickoff.
Oct 12, 2022
Limited Wednesday
Phillips (hamstring) was limited during Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Phillips missed Weeks 3 and 4 due to a hamstring injury but returned for Week 5. He briefly exited the matchup against Pittsburgh in the first half after presumably aggravating the injury but returned in the second half. The team will likely continue to monitor the issue but, barring a setback, Phillips appears on track to play in Week 6.
Oct 9, 2022
Returns against Pittsburgh
Phillips (hamstring) returned during the second half of Sunday's game against the Steelers, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips exited with a hamstring injury during the first half of this Week 5 contest, though he appears to be doing fine after working his way back onto the field. The 30-year-old missed Buffalo's last two games with a lingering hamstring injury, so it will still be worth monitoring his status heading into next week's contest versus the Chiefs.
Oct 9, 2022
Forced out Sunday
Phillips (hamstring) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was listed as questionable heading into Week 5 after missing the Bills' last two games with a hamstring injury, which he appears to have aggravated during the first half Sunday. The veteran defensive tackle recorded six tackles and 1.5 sacks over the first two weeks of the season, and his absence will leave Tim Settle to step into a bigger role behind Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones.
Oct 9, 2022
To return against Pittsburgh
Phillips (hamstring) is active Week 5 against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Phillips has been sidelined in back-to-back weeks with a hamstring injury, but a return practice on a limited basis this week will ultimately pave the way for his return to the defensive line rotation. Fellow defensive tackle Ed Oliver (ankle) is also returning this week, bolstering the depth of an already-strong position group.
Oct 7, 2022
Questionable versus Pittsburgh
Phillips (hamstring) is questionable to play in the Bills' Week 5 contest versus the Steelers, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was a limited participant at each of the team's practices this week, opening the door for him to return to the field for the first time since Week 2 as he's been nursing a hamstring injury. With Ed Oliver (hamstring) also a little worse for wear, the Bills are currently thin on the interior defensive line.
Sep 30, 2022
No go for Week 4
Phillips (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 4 against the Ravens, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips will miss a second consecutive game this week after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Titans. In his absence, Brandin Bryant and Tim Settle will see an increased workload on the defensive line.
Sep 28, 2022
Not expected to play Sunday
Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that he doesn't think Phillips (hamstring) will play Sunday against the Ravens, calling the defensive tackle week-to-week, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips suffered the injury during the team's Week 2 win over the Titans and remained sidelined for Week 3. It appears like the issue will cause him to miss at least one more contest and potentially even a few more after that. Ed Oliver (ankle) is also dealing with an injury, so Brandin Bryant and Tim Settle have garnered increased roles next to DaQuan Jones along the interior of the Bills' defensive line to start the campaign.
Sep 23, 2022
Out for Week 3
Phillips (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips suffered the injury during Monday's win over the Titans and didn't practice at all this week, so his unavailability doesn't come as a surprise. Ed Oliver (ankle) could also miss Sunday's game after being limited at practice throughout the week, so Buffalo may need to bring in some emergency defensive line depth for its matchup with Miami.
Sep 19, 2022
Our for remainder of Monday's game
Phillips has been ruled out for the remainder of Monday's game against the Titans due to a hamstring injury.
ANALYSIS
Phillips, along with Micah Hyde (neck) and Matt Milano (stinger), won't return to the Bills' blowout win over the Titans. The severity of the defenders' injuries remains unclear, but it's always a possibility Buffalo is simply being cautious as they cruise to victory. Regardless, the Bills will have one less day to prepare for Week 3, so if any of the aforementioned players misses a practice, they'll have an uphill battle to suit up Sunday against the Dolphins.
Sep 9, 2022
Creates pressure in Week 1
Phillips recorded four tackles (two solo) and 1.5 sacks during Thursday's 31-10 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Phillips played 35 of the team's 67 defensive snaps and made his presence felt by harassing Matthew Stafford on multiple occasions in the first half. The defensive tackle's solo sack came in the middle of the second quarter, which put the Rams in a difficult third-and-long situation, and his shared sack almost put Los Angeles out of field-goal range at the end of the first half. Phillips recorded 9.5 sacks during his last year with Buffalo (2019) and is already on pace to replicate those numbers after a strong performance in Week 1.
Mar 17, 2022
Signs with Bills
Phillips signed a one-year contract with the Bills on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Phillips dealt with various injuries across his two years with the Cardinals and played in just nine games in each of those seasons. The 29-year-old recorded 22 tackles (14 solo), three sacks and two pass defenses in 2021 but will now return to Buffalo, where he racked up a career-high 9.5 sacks in 2019. Phillips was sidelined with a knee injury to close out the 2021 campaign but should be available for offseason activities.
Mar 17, 2022
Cut by Cardinals
Phillips (knee) was released by the Cardinals in Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips inked a three-year, $30 million contract with Arizona ahead of the 2020 campaign, but he was limited to nine games in each of the past two seasons and totaled only five sacks. The 29-year-old will likely need to settle for a more modest contract in free agency this time around.
Jan 17, 2022
Inactive Monday
Phillips (knee) is inactive Monday against the Rams, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips hasn't played since getting hurt in Week 15 against the Lions. Leki Fotu will likely continue to see extra opportunity on the edge behind starters Zach Allen and J.J. Watt.
Jan 7, 2022
Remains out
Phillips (knee) will not play Sunday against the Seahawks, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips suffered the injury in Week 15 against the Lions and hasn't played since. He was also unable to log any kind of practice time this week. Leki Fotu will likely continue to see extra snaps Sunday against the Seahawks, while Phillips will work to be ready for the playoffs.
Dec 31, 2021
Set for second consecutive absence
Phillips (knee) is out for Sunday's game against Dallas, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips failed to practice all week and has been ruled out for his second consecutive contest. Leki Fotu saw an uptick in playing time in Phillips' absence and should maintain a significant role once again.
Dec 23, 2021
Out Christmas Day
Phillips (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Colts, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips suffered the knee injury during last week's loss to the Lions and will be sidelined for at least one contest. Michael Dogbe and Leki Fotu could see more playing time in his absence.
Dec 19, 2021
Done for today
Phillips (knee) is out Sunday against the Lions, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips' inability to return will deplete the Cardinals' defensive line for the remainder of Sunday's contest against the Lions. With Phillips off the field, Michael Dogbe will likely get more opportunity on the edge.
Nov 14, 2021
Available Sunday
Phillips (groin) is available for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday due to a groin issue but returned in a limited capacity Friday. The 2015 second-rounder should continue to serve in a depth role against Carolina.
Oct 16, 2021
Activated from IR
Phillips (back) was activated from injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Phillips returned to practice this week and will be available for Sunday's game against the Browns. The 29-year-old should take on a starting role in his season debut Sunday.
Oct 13, 2021
Returns to practice Wednesday
The Cardinals designated Phillips (undisclosed) to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips has had a rough start to the season, as he spent the majority of the preseason on the COVID-19 list and then started the regular season on injured reserve. The 29-year-old will have a 21-day period to be added to the active roster, and if he's not, he will return to injured reserve for the remainder of the 2021 campaign.
Aug 30, 2021
Returns from COVID list
The Cardinals activated Phillips from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips returned a positive test for COVID-19 on Aug. 19, but he's now fully cleared the league's health and safety protocols. The veteran defensive end can thus return to team facilities and be considered fully on track for Sept. 12's season opener in Tennessee.
Aug 19, 2021
Tests positive for COVID-19
Phillips was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips recently tested positive for the virus and will be away from the team until he clears the league's health and safety protocols. It seems unlikely that he'll be able to return for either of the Cardinals' final two preseason games, but he'll attempt to return in time for the team's Week 1 matchup against the Titans on Sept. 12.
Dec 19, 2020
Shifts to IR
The Cardinals placed Phillips (hamstring) on injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Phillips will be shut down for the final three games of the regular season as he looks to get healthy from a lingering hamstring issue. Zach Allen, Leki Fotu and Angelo Blackson will all be candidates to handle increased reps at defensive end in Phillips' stead.
Dec 14, 2020
Ruled out for Week 15
Coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday that Phillips (hamstring) won't play in the Week 15 matchup against the Eagles, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips returned to the lineup in this past Sunday's win over the Giants after missing the previous four games with a hamstring injury. However, the 28-year-old defensive end aggravated the injury early in the contest and will be sidelined once again. Until Phillips returns, Zach Allen, Leki Fotu and Angelo Blackson will handle the reps at defensive end.
Dec 13, 2020
Aggravates hamstring injury
Phillips is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Giants with a hamstring injury, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old spent the past month on injury reserve with a hamstring injury before being activated Saturday, and he appeared to aggravate the injury early in Sunday's contest. Angelo Blackson and Leki Fotu are poised for increased snaps if Phillips is unable to return.
Dec 12, 2020
Joins 53-man roster
Phillips (hamstring) was elevated to the active roster Saturday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips has missed the last four games due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 7. The 28-year-old should return to his starting defensive-end duties and add to his 10 tackles (10 solo) and two sacks as the Cardinals take on the Giants next week.
Dec 9, 2020
Preparing to return from IR
Phillips (hamstring) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The Cardinals have 21 days to evaluate Phillips' condition and activate him from IR. After missing four games, the 28-year-old defensive end could return to the lineup for this Sunday's matchup against the Giants. Once he's healthy, Phillips should retake the starting defensive end role as he looks to add to the two sacks he posted through the first eight games.

Ruled out three games
Phillips (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve by the Cardinals on Thursday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was already set to miss his second straight game Thursday against the Seahawks, so this news puts him out at least another two games. As long as Phillips is sidelined, Angelo Blackson is expected to draw the start at defensive end opposite Josh Mauro, with Michael Dogbe adding depth.

Missing more action
Phillips (hamstring) won't play in Thursday's divisional matchup against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Phillips will miss his second consecutive game due to the hamstring issue he suffered in the first game against Seattle this season in Week 7. Phillips' absence will hurt the defensive line, as Angelo Blackson will look to draw the start at defensive end opposite Josh Mauro. Phillips will look to use the extra rest to get healthy and return for Week 12 against the Seahawks.

Ruled out against former team
Phillips (hamstring) won't play against the Bills on Sunday, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips won't get the chance to suit up against the team for which he played in 2018 and 2019. He originally suffered his hamstring injury in Week 7 and played through it last week following a bye, but the defensive lineman evidently aggravated the injury, as he'll need to sit out at least one game to let it heal. Phillips will hope to get back on the field in Week 11 against the Seahawks, though doing so will be challenging on a short week.

Active for Week 9
Phillips (hamstring) is listed as active for Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Phillips entered the weekend carrying a questionable designation after he suffered a hamstring injury during Arizona's Week 7 Sunday Night Football overtime win against Seattle. Limited sessions in practice Thursday and Friday provided optimism that he may ultimately be able to go, and the 28-year-old has evidently shown enough to team trainers in pregame workouts to get the nod.

Questionable for Week 9
Phillips (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game against Miami, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips managed to put in limited practice sessions Thursday and Friday after sitting out entirely Wednesday with the injury he suffered in Week 7 prior to Arizona's bye last week. After grabbing a sack apiece in his first two appearances of the season, Phillips hasn't gotten one since.

Hurts hammy on SNF
Phillips (hamstring) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Arizona will be shorthanded at defensive end for the rest of the night without both Phillips and Zach Allen (ankle). Angelo Blackson should take most of the snaps vacated by Phillips' absence. With Arizona on bye in Week 8, Phillips will have an extra week to recover before facing the Dolphins in Week 9.

Available against Seahawks
Phillips (foot) is active for Sunday's game against Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Phillips missed three straight practices this week, but he'll nonetheless manage to suit up for Sunday's divisional contest. He'll work to provide Arizona's pass rush with a spark against the notoriously elusive Russell Wilson.

Deemed questionable for Sunday
Phillips (foot) is questionable for Sunday's game versus the Seahawks, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips didn't practice all week, so it appears he's no the wrong side of questionable for Week 7. The Cardinals' pass rush is already hurting without Chandler Jones (biceps) in the picture, so losing Phillips, who has two sacks through six games, would be salt in the wound. Angelo Blackson and Leki Fotu would enjoy increased usage with Phillips out of the picture.

Missing another practice
Phillips (foot) did not practice Thursday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips has now missed back-to-back practices due to a foot injury apparently sustained during Monday's win over the Cowboys. It's possible that the Cardinals are simply allowing Phillips a few rest days on a short week, but if he were forced to miss any time Angelo Blackson would be the favorite to start at defensive end.

Good to go Sunday
Phillips (illness) is active for Sunday's game versus the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Phillips has enjoyed a strong start to the season with two sacks and a forced fumble through four games. He's shaken off the illness that kept him out of practice this week, and the 2015 second-round pick should handle a full workload against the Jets.

Ready to rock
Phillips (ankle) is officially active for Sunday's game against Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Phillips was able to log limited practice sessions during the week after failing to suit up Wednesday, but he was able to get healthy enough to play. Now healthy, look for the Oklahoma product to assume his usual starting role at defensive end.

Pegged as questionable
Phillips (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game versus the Lions.
ANALYSIS
After being a non-participant during Wednesday's practice, Phillips has logged two straight limited sessions. We won't know his final status until 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, and if he's ruled out, expect Angelo Blackson to bump into a starting DE role.

Heads to the desert
Phillips is signing a three-year, $30 million contract with the Cardinals, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2015 second-round pick enjoyed a breakout season for the Bills in 2019, posting career highs of 31 tackles, 9.5 sacks and 16 QB hits while starting nine of 16 games. The Bills can afford to lose Phillips given that they have Ed Oliver and Star Lotulelei on their roster, while the Cardinals get some much-needed pass rush help for the interior of their defensive line. Phillips was originally drafted by the Dolphins and produced just 5.5 sacks in 48 games for Miami.

Wraps up breakthrough season
Phillips, who registered a career-high 9.5 sacks in 2019, will be an unrestricted free agent in March.
ANALYSIS
Beginning the season as a depth piece on a talented defensive line, no one saw Phillips leading the team in sacks for the season, but he did just that with the out-of-nowhere 9.5, more than all of his four previous NFL seasons combined. Phillips won't come as cheap as the one-year, $4.5 million he signed with the Bills last March, so the team will need to make a decision whether it wants to pony up on a longer-term deal. It helps that the Bills have tons of cap money if they want to make a play to keep him in the fold, but with 2019 first-rounder Ed Oliver being a long-term lock at defensive tackle, some bigger need team could come along for a price the Bills are unwilling to pay.

Ready for Pittsburgh
Phillips (knee) practiced fully Friday and does not have an injury designation for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
The Bills' surprising sack leader looks ready to go in a game that looks like it could be a good pitcher's duel between two excellent defenses.
Dec 12, 2019
Limited Thursday
Phillips was listed as limited for Thursday's practice due to a knee injury, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips wasn't hindered to start Wednesday's session, so we'll have to assume it's something minor ahead of Sunday's game against Pittsburgh unless the Bills tell us otherwise. The veteran defensive tackle remains Buffalo's surprise sack leader with 7.5 through 13 games.
