Officially lands on IR
The Saints placed Blackmon (shoulder) on injured reserve Saturday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
The first-year Saint sustained a torn labrum in the Week 1 loss to the Cardinals, so it's no surprise he moved to IR on Saturday. Blackmon was one of New Orleans' top defensive playmakers in Week 1, recording seven total tackles and one pass defended across 61 defensive snaps. With Blackmon likely out for the remainder of the season, Jonas Sanker projects to start at free safety.
Sep 10, 2025
Will undergo surgery
Blackmon will undergo surgery to address the shoulder injury he suffered during Sunday's 20-13 loss versus the Cardinals, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was feared to have suffered a torn labrum after he left New Orleans' regular-season debut early, and now it looks like he'll miss extended time as he recovers. In his absence, rookie third-rounder Jonas Sanker becomes a candidate to start at safety next to Justin Reid.
Sep 8, 2025
Could be done for 2025
Head coach Kellen Moore said Monday that Blackmon (shoulder) could be sidelined "for a long time" and possibly the entire 2025 season, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon suffered the injury during Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Cardinals. Ian initially reported that Blackmon is feared to have suffered a torn labrum, which would put the 2020 third-rounder in jeopardy of missing the rest of the season. Jordan Howden (oblique) and Jonas Sanker would be the top candidates to start alongside Justin Reid at safety if Blackmon is sidelined.

Sustains shoulder injury
Blackmon (shoulder) is feared to have suffered a torn labrum in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Cardinals, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Rapoport added that the Saints are still running tests on Blackmon's shoulder, but if the injury is confirmed to be a torn labrum, he's expected to miss the remainder of the season. The 27-year-old, who signed with the Saints in late July , played 100-percent of the team's defensive snaps in Week 1, recording seven total tackles and one pass defended. Jonas Sanker and Jordan Howden (oblique) are the most likely options to take over at free safety while Blackmon recovers.
Jul 23, 2025
Officially headed to New Orleans
Blackmon and the Saints agreed on a one-year contract Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon will officially head to New Orleans, helping fill the void in the team's secondary after Tyrann Mathieu retired Tuesday. Blackmon appears to have fully recovered from his offseason shoulder surgery, and he'll now compete with Jonas Sanker and J.T. Gray for the team's starting free safety role. The 26-year-old has recorded 174 combined tackles over the last two years, and he'll look to maintain that level of production with the Saints.
Jul 22, 2025
Finalizing deal with New Orleans
Blackmon (labrum) and the Saints are expected to agree on a contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon appears to be set to replace Tyrann Mathieu with the Saints after Mathieu announced his retirement Tuesday. Blackmon appeared in 16 games with the Colts in 2024 while dealing with a ruptured right shoulder labrum injury that he suffered in Week 1, recording 86 total tackles (62 solo), including 0.5 sacks, while also adding four passes defensed, three of which were interceptions, and a fumble recovery. The safety underwent offseason surgery to address the shoulder injury, and he'd likely be cleared to practice if he signs with New Orleans.
Jan 6, 2025
Tending to torn right labrum
Blackmon will need surgery to address the ruptured right labrum he sustained in Week 1 versus the Texans, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon played 16 games this season despite suffering the injury during Indianapolis' opener. There's no concrete timetable for his return at this point. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent during the upcoming offseason.
Dec 2, 2024
Gets second interception of season
Blackmon recorded five tackles (five solo) and an interception during Sunday's 25-24 win at New England.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon's interception came in the red zone late in the third quarter to preserve a 17-16 Colts lead. He's locked into an every-down role at safety, keeping him on the IDP radar in some formats for the fantasy playoffs after Indianapolis' bye in Week 14.
Oct 29, 2024
Solid in road loss
Blackmon recorded eight tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 23-20 loss at Houston.
ANALYSIS
Sunday's game was Blackmon's second straight collecting at least eight tackles, bringing his total on the season up to 49. That's good enough for IDP consideration in some formats heading into a Week 9 tilt at Minnesota.
Oct 22, 2024
Nine tackles in win
Blackmon recorded nine total tackles (five solo) in Sunday's 16-10 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon finished with his highest tackle total since Week 1, finishing third on the team in stops behind Grant Stuard and Zaire Franklin. The safety has now compiled 41 total tackles (29 solo), including 0.5 sacks, while also adding an interception, a fumble recovery and a pass defensed over six games in 2024.
Oct 14, 2024
Grabs interception in win
Blackmon had six total tackles and an interception in Sunday's win at Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon played on all 58 of the defense's snaps. He's a steady source of tackles as a starting safety opposite Nick Cross.
Sep 18, 2024
Does practice in full
Blackmon (shoulder) was a full participant during practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
It was previously reported by James Boyd of The Athletic that the Utah product was on the field Wednesday, but not his level of participation. His ability to get in a full practice suggests the safety should be good to go Sunday against the Bears.
Sep 18, 2024
Returns to field
Blackmon (shoulder) is practicing Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was unable to practice last week before missing their Week 2 loss to the Packers. His return to the field Wednesday should be good news for the Utah product and put him on a trajectory to take the field this Sunday against the Bears. However, it's not yet clear if Blackmon was limited or a full participant for the session, which will keep him iffy for Week 3 for now.
Sep 13, 2024
Missing Week 2
Blackmon (shoulder) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was held out of both Wednesday and Thursday's practices due to a shoulder injury, so it's no surprise that the 26-year-old won't suit up in Week 2. Fortunately for the Colts, head coach Shane Steichen told reporters Friday that he doesn't believe Blackmon's injury is a long-term issue, per James Boyd of The Athletic. Expect Trevor Denbow and Rodney Thomas to see increased work with Indianapolis' first-team defense in Blackmon's stead.
Sep 12, 2024
Misses Thursday's practice
Blackmon (shoulder) did not practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon has now missed back-to-back practices, so he may need to participate in at least a limited capacity Friday for any chance of being available for Sunday's road matchup against the Packers. Trevor Denbow and Rodney Thomas will be candidates to handle increased defensive snaps if Blackmon misses any time.
Sep 11, 2024
Dealing with shoulder issue
Blackmon (shoulder) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Indianapolis' top strong safety logged 13 total tackles during the team's Week 1 loss, but it appears he may have sustained a shoulder injury in that effort. Blackmon's practice participation Thursday and Friday will provide a better indication of whether the 26-year-old will be able to suit up for the Colts in Week 2.
Sep 9, 2024
Productive in loss
Blackmon recorded 13 tackles (10 solo) in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon led the defense with 10 solo stops, although he was second to Nick Cross in total tackles. Despite the loss, it was a productive day from a fantasy perspective for the Utah product, who will work to maintain that productivity in a win Week 2 against the Packers.
Apr 2, 2024
Staying with Indy
Blackmon is slated to return to the Colts on a one-year deal, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
ANALYSIS
During the 2023 regular season Blackmon recorded 88 tackles, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries in 15 games with the Colts. Now that he's back with the team and presumably past a late-season shoulder issue, the 2020 third-rounder is poised to maintain his key role in Indy's secondary, where he's in line to occupy a starting safety slot in 2024.
Feb 20, 2024
Impressive numbers in contract year
Blackmon (shoulder) racked up 88 tackles (65 solo), eight passes defensed, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries across 15 games with the Colts in 2023.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon missed the last two games of the year due to a shoulder injury and Indianapolis' secondary suffered for it, especially in the team's season-ending loss to the Texans. The safety tallied career-high marks across the board in the final year of his rookie contract, emerging as one of the more dependable players in the Colts' secondary. If Indianapolis doesn't ultimately re-sign Blackmon, he won't have a shortage of interest on the free agent market.
Dec 26, 2023
Goes to IR
Indianapolis placed Blackmon (shoulder) on its injured reserve list Tuesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The move means Blackmon will miss the final two weeks of the regular season and won't be eligible to return until the week of the AFC Championship at the earliest. In the meantime, 2022 third-rounder Nick Cross will probably fill in at safety.
Dec 24, 2023
Receives downgrade
Blackmon (shoulder) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon exited in the first half with the injury and was originally considered questionable to return. His exit will be a blow to the Colts' secondary for the remainder of the matchup against Atlanta. Nick Cross will continue to fill in at strong safety.
Dec 24, 2023
Suffers shoulder injury
Blackmon (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Falcons, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The safety recorded one tackle before leaving the game. Blackmon has 87 tackles, eight passes defensed, four interceptions and two fumble recoveries in 2023. Nick Cross has replaced him in the lineup.
Dec 19, 2023
Picks off another pass Saturday
Blackmon recorded two tackles (two solo) and an interception in Saturday's 30-13 win versus the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
In the middle of the fourth quarter, Blackmon found himself in the right place at the right time on an overthrown ball intended for George Pickens, preserving a 27-13 lead. He's having a breakout season and is a viable IDP option for Week 16.
Nov 13, 2023
Picks off pass
Blackmon notched four tackles, two passes defended and an interception in Sunday's 10-6 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon's interception came at an opportune time with 4:25 left in the game and the Patriots on the Colts' 15-yard line, the Utah product picked off a pass intended for Mike Gesicki at the one, helping to seal up the victory. Blackmon now has a career-high three interceptions on the season, as well as 66 tackles (47 solo) and five passes defended. After a bye week, Blackmon and the Colts will host the Buccaneers for a Week 12 matchup.
Oct 23, 2023
Logs second interception
Blackman recorded five tackles (four solo), two pass deflections and an interception during Indianapolis' 39-38 loss to the Browns on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Blackman was one of two Colts defenders to snag an interception but that was not enough to give the team the win. The 25-year-old now has two interceptions on the season to go along with 50 tackles (15 solo).
Oct 9, 2023
Snags first interception of year
Blackmon recorded five tackles (four solo) while also intercepting a pass and deflecting another in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon snatched his first interception of year in the fourth quarter, stepping in front of a pass from Ryan Tannehill that was intended for DeAndre Hopkins. The pick put the game on ice for Indianapolis and the safety is now up to 41 tackles, an interception and a pass deflection over the first five games of 2023.
Oct 3, 2023
Nine tackles in loss
Blackmon recorded nine tackles (seven solo) in Sunday's 29-23 overtime loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon continues to be incredibly active on the Colts' defense, compiling at least nine takedowns for the third straight week. The safety registered a career-high 50 tackles over 14 games in 2022, but he's already at 36 stops through four contests in 2023.
Sep 25, 2023
Gets double-digit tackles again
Blackmon recorded 12 tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 22-19 overtime win at the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was second on his squad in tackles in Week 3, and he looks primed for a career year as a starting safety, provided he can stay healthy. That said, Indianapolis will probably see significantly fewer looks against the run when they host the Rams in Week 4.
Sep 18, 2023
Racks up 10 tackles Week 2
Blackmon logged 10 tackles (seven solo) against the Texans in Sunday's Week 2 victory.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon ranked second on Indianapolis in stops behind Zaire Franklin, who tallied 13. Blackmon has played on every defensive snap for the Colts through two weeks and has totaled 15 tackles. He set a career high with 50 stops over 14 contests last season.
Sep 12, 2023
Five tackles in season opener
Blackmon started at strong safety and had five tackles in Sunday's loss to Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon had an off day in coverage by allowing three receptions on four targets for 42 yards, according to Pro Football Focus. However, he enters the regular season healthy after missing time in training camp to a hamstring injury. Blackmon played all 70 snaps on defense. A return to full strength is a good sign since he's struggled to stay on the field. The 2020 third-rounder was limited to six games in 2021 due to an Achilles injury and last season he missed three games and parts of another due to an ankle injury.
Aug 15, 2023
Getting back on the field
Blackmon (hamstring) will practice Tuesday, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon has yet to practice with his team, as he's been sidelined by the injury since camp opened. He'll now have just under four weeks to get ready for the team's season opener against the Jaguars.
Aug 10, 2023
May return soon
Blackmon (hamstring) will return "hopefully sooner than later," according to head coach Shane Steichen, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon has yet to participate in training camp due to the injury, but it appears his absences could be coming to an end soon. Steichen mentioned last Thursday that the Utah product was progressing well in his recovery, but he's still not quite 100 percent.
Aug 3, 2023
Continuing to recover
Blackmon continues to make progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon remains sidelined, but he's progressing well and doing a good job with his rehab, according to head coach Shane Steichen. The 24-year-old has been out of action since training camp started, but with Week 1 still over a month away, the Colts' projected starter at free safety still has several weeks to make a full recovery.
Jul 26, 2023
No timetable for return
Blackmon (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday and remains without a return timetable, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon didn't join his teammates on the field for the first day of training camp. The starting safety has plenty of time to heal up before the Colts kick off the regular season Sept. 10 against the Jaguars. The team's preseason opener is Aug. 12 in Buffalo.
Nov 14, 2022
Starts at free safety
Blackmon started at free safety and had one total tackle in Sunday's win at Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon has taken back the starting role but split playing time with Rodney Thomas. Blackmon played on 45 of the defense's 70 snaps while Thomas played on 25 snaps. Blackmon missed Week 4 and Week 5 with an ankle injury and initially eased back into action in a smaller role off the bench.
Oct 24, 2022
Comes off bench
Blackmon had three total tackles in Sunday's loss at Tennessee. He came off the bench and played on 21 of the defense's 59 snaps.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon missed two games with an ankle injury, then was active in Week 6 and didn't play. It's not clear if he's not back to full speed or if Rodney Thomas has supplanted him as the starting free safety.
Oct 23, 2022
Unclear role against Tennessee
Blackmon is active for Sunday's game against Tennessee, but it is not clear if he will play, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was active in last week's win over Jacksonville but did not play as he was on the sidelines only in case of an emergency. He had missed two games with an ankle injury and it's not clear that he's back to full strength. Rodney Thomas has taken over the starting free safety job with Blackmon hurt.
Oct 17, 2022
Active, but didn't play
Blackmon was active in Sunday's win over Jacksonville but did not play as he was on the sidelines only in case of an emergency, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Frank Reich said he wasn't ready to play but at the same time had him active. It would appear that Blackmon would be ready to return next week against Tennessee, but it may be best to see him in action again before using him for fantasy purposes. Rodney Thomas got the start with Blackmon held out.
Oct 16, 2022
Will be available Sunday
Blackmon is active for Sunday's matchup against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon will return to action in Week 6 after missing back-to-back games due to an ankle injury. The third-year pro is expected to reprise his role as the Colts' starting free safety.
Oct 14, 2022
Questionable for Sunday
Blackmon (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon has missed back-to-back games due to an ankle sprain, but he returned to practice ahead of Week 6, logging two limited sessions and one full participation (Thursday). If he remains out for a third straight game, expect Rodney Thomas to continue serving as the Colts' starting free safety.
Oct 13, 2022
Upgrades to full participant
Blackmon (ankle) practiced in full Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon missed the team's last two contests due to an ankle sprain, but his ability to log a full practice Thursday suggests he's ready to return for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. With the 24-year-old more than likely to reclaim his starting spot this weekend, Rodney Thomas is slated to revert back to a depth role for the Colts' secondary.
Oct 5, 2022
Won't play Thursday
Blackmon (ankle) is out for Thursday's game against the Broncos, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon will miss his second straight game due to an ankle sprain. The starting safety will have extra time to get healthy for Week 6 versus the Jaguars, but for Thursday's contest expect Rodney Thomas to be called upon for another start.
Sep 30, 2022
Won't play in Week 4
Blackmon (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Sports Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon sprained his ankle in Week 3 against the Chiefs and will subsequently miss at least one game as a result. Coach Frank Reich deemed Blackmon "week-to-week" in addition to ruling the safety out for Week 4. Rodney Thomas will likely start in Blackmon's stead, while Blackmon will aim to heal up in time to face the Broncos on Thursday Night Football in Week 5.
Sep 26, 2022
Dealing with ankle sprain
Blackmon was diagnosed with a sprained ankle following Sunday's win over Kansas City, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon left the Colts' Week 3 win in the first half due to his ankle injury and will be monitored throughout the week ahead of Sunday's matchup against Tennessee. If he's unavailable against the Titans, Rodney Thomas will likely take on an increased role in the Colts' secondary.
Sep 25, 2022
Won't return against Kansas City
Blackmon (ankle) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Chiefs, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon departed during the first half of Sunday's contest against Kansas City with an ankle injury, and he'll now be sidelined for the remainder of the day. Rodney Thomas should continue filling in for the 187-pounder until he's cleared to play. Blackmon's next opportunity to take the field comes next Sunday against the Titans.
Sep 25, 2022
Questionable to return Sunday
Blackmon (ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Charlie Clifford of WISH-TV reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon attempted to sprint on the sidelines after he left Sunday's game against Kansas City, but he pulled up quickly, per Clifford. Rodney Thomas should take on an expanded role for the remainder of Sunday's contest against the Chiefs, per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star.
Sep 12, 2022
Struggles in season opener
Blackmon started at free safety and had one tackle in Sunday's tie at Houston.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon struggled in pass coverage by allowing completions on all three passes targeted his way for 69 yards and a touchdown, according to Pro Football Focus. Blackmon emerged as a key piece in the secondary last season with 34 tackles (27 solo), a pass breakup and a forced fumble through the team's first six games game before suffering a season-ending torn Achilles in practice after Week 7. His ability to return to his form before the injury is something to watch early in the season.
Aug 14, 2022
Two tackles in return to action
Blackmon started at safety and had two tackles and a forced fumble in Saturday's preseason loss at Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
It was Blackmon's first game action since he suffered a torn Achilles in October. He looks health and ready for the regular season. Blackmon emerged as a key piece in the secondary with 34 tackles (27 solo), a pass breakup and a forced fumble through the team's first six contests last season before his injury.
Jul 25, 2022
No injury designation
Blackmon was clear of injury designations when the Colts announced transactions ahead of training camp Sunday, Andrew Moore of FanNation reports.
ANALYSIS
It was expected that Blackmon would be able to participate in training camp at some point after he suffered a torn Achilles back in October of 2021, so the news comes as no big surprise. He figures for a rotational role in Indianapolis' defensive backfield this season, but he could be in for more depending on the extent of recent acquisition Rodney McLeod's injury and to what degree 2022 third-rounder Nick Cross pans out.
Jun 1, 2022
Going through positional drills
Blackmon (Achilles) went through positional drills Wednesday, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon tore his Achilles last October but head coach Frank Reich said last week that he was ahead of schedule in his recovery. He took another step forward Wednesday, participating in the defensive back drills at practice. Blackmon appears to be on track to be set for the 2022-2023 campaign.
Apr 4, 2022
Should be good for training camp
Blackmon (Achilles) is expected to be ready for training camp, Kevin Hickey of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon is recovering from a torn Achilles suffered back in October. Barring any setbacks, a typical recovery timeframe should allow him to participate in training camp activities and be available for Week 1 of the 2022 campaign.
Oct 23, 2021
Placed on IR
Blackmon (Achilles) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, according to the Colts' official Twitter account.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon's move to IR comes as no surprise after suffering a torn Achilles' tendon in Wednesday's practice. The 23-year-old has become a key defensive player for the Colts, so his loss is a significant one for the team. The injury will require season-ending surgery, and Blackmon will now turn his attention to getting healthy for the Colts' 2022 season.
Sep 29, 2021
Racks up 11 tackles
Blackmon recorded 11 solo tackles during Sunday's 15-16 loss to the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon totaled nine tackles across the first two games of the season but eclipsed that total while leading the team in stops Sunday. The 2020 third-round pick finished his rookie campaign with 42 tackles in 15 games and is well on his well to passing that mark in 2021.
Sep 19, 2021
Active for Week 2
Blackmon (back) is listed as active ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was added to the injury report this week after missing Friday's practice, but he will give it a go Sunday. The 23-year-old played 54 defensive snaps in Week 1 and registered five tackles.
Sep 17, 2021
Added to injury report
Blackmon has been added to the Colts' injury report as questionable ahead of their Week 2 matchup with the Rams due to a back injury.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon popped up on the injury report after being a non-participant at Friday's practice. It is unclear when he actually sustained the injury. If he is ultimately unable to suit up Sunday, look for Andrew Dendejo to fill in for him at free safety.
Sep 13, 2021
Five tackles Sunday
Blackmon started at free safety and had five total tackles and a tackle for a loss in Sunday's loss to Seattle.
ANALYSIS
He showed promise against the pass after becoming a starter lastseason by allowing just a 40.2 passer rating against, according to Pro Football Focus, and by grabbing two interceptions. He wasn't targeted in the passing game Sunday. He didn't rush the passer all last season or against Seattle, so he's not used in blitz packages. However, he could be a steady source of tackles.
Aug 13, 2021
Returns to practice
Blackmon was back at practice Friday, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon exited practice on Aug. 6 after suffering a knee injury. After nearly a week on the sideline he has returned to camp, which indicates the issue was never considered too serious. He projects to start at free safety for the Colts this season.
Aug 7, 2021
Exits practice with knee injury
Blackmon left Friday's practice due to a knee injury, the Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Trainers wrapped his leg after he suffered the injury, but no other details are known. Blackmon took over at starting free safety after Malik Hooker was hurt early last season and was a steady presence in the secondary.
Oct 15, 2020
No limitations Thursday
Blackmon (groin) logged a full practice session Thursday, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie safety from Utah exited the Colts' Week 5 loss to Cleveland, but he was able to return to action and collect over 85 percent of the defensive workload. Blackmon sat out Wednesday's practice altogether, but having since been upgraded to full participation it appears he is in line to play Sunday against Cincinnati's bottom-12 pass offense, barring any setbacks.
Oct 14, 2020
Still dealing with injury
Blackmon (groin) was a non-participant during Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was forced to leave last week's game against the Browns with the groin injury, but as evidenced by this news, he's still dealing with the issue. If Blackmon was forced to miss Week 6 against the Bengals, George Odum would be in line for the start at free safety.
Oct 11, 2020
Back in action
Blackmon (groin) returned to Sunday's game versus the Browns, Jim Ayello of the Indianpolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was deemed questionable to return, and the rookie missed a handful of snaps before getting back onto the field. As long as he's not too hampered, Blackmon should handle an every-down workload for the remainder of the game.
Oct 11, 2020
Suffers groin injury
Blackmon was forced out of Sunday's game versus the Browns with a groin injury, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon started a second straight game Sunday since Malik Hooker (Achilles) has been shut down for the season, but now the rookie third-rounder has been sidelined. If he doesn't return, either Tavon Wilson or George Odum are expected to handle the free safety snaps for the remainder of the game.
Sep 21, 2020
Could move into starting role
Blackmon had two tackles and two pass defensed in Sunday's win over Minnesota. He took over as the starting free safety after Malik Hooker of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis was hurt and could take over as the starter next week, Kevin Bowen reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon played 34 of 54 snaps on defense. He did give up two of three passes targeted at him for a 109.7 NFL passer rating allowed, according to Pro Football Focus, but graded well in tackling. Blackmon may not be the play maker that Hooker was in coverage, but he could be a solid source of tackles as a starter in the Indy secondary.
Sep 20, 2020
Ready to play
Blackmon (knee) will suit up in Sunday's matchup against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon missed the season opener while rehabbing from a torn ACL he sustained last season in college, but is set for his NFL debut. Now healthy, the Utah product is expected to handle a depth role in the secondary as the team eases him back to game action.
Sep 11, 2020
Not ready for Week 1
Blackmon (knee) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon is continuing to rehab from a torn ACL sustained back in December, during his final collegiate contest at Utah. The rookie third-round pick is expected to begin his career in a depth role when healthy, which gives the Colts the luxury of easing him back on the field.
Aug 31, 2020
Ready to rock
The Colts activated Blackmon (knee) from the Active/Non-Football Injury list Monday, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon finally received full medical clearance after he suffered a torn ACL in his final collegiate game at Utah in December. Now healthy, it's unclear whether he'll be thrust into the lineup for Week 1 of the season. He's expected to assume a depth role behind starter Malik Hooker, so it's likely that the team will ease Blackmon into game action.
Jul 27, 2020
Placed on non-football injury list
Blackmon, who suffered an ACL tear in December, was placed on the Active/Non-Football injury list, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon was hoping to receive medical clearance to begin practicing by July, so it's not clear if this is a setback. More likely, he'll begin training camp on the roster exemption and then will be activated when he practice. He isn't expected to be able to play in a game until October at the earliest.
