Let go by Las Vegas
The Raiders waived Shorter on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The move corresponds with the Raiders signing veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett to the active roster. Shorter was signed to the Raiders' active roster in early September after initially failing to make the 53-man squad at the end of training camp, though he mostly saw the field on special teams. Assuming he clears waivers, the third-year pro will look to join a team in need of depth at special teams and wide receiver.

Joins Vegas' 53-man roster
Shorter was signed to the Raiders' active roster from the practice squad Friday, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Shorter played wide receiver in college at Florida but attempted to convert to tight end in the NFL. The 2024 fifth-round pick of the Bills played in 10 regular-season games with Buffalo last season but saw action almost exclusively on special teams. Now back at wide receiver, the 6-foot-5 Shorter will provide depth for the Raiders following Thursday's announcement from Amari Cooper that the veteran wideout is retiring.

Back with Las Vegas
The Raiders signed Shorter to their practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Shorter was waived by Las Vegas on Tuesday but is remaining with the organization on the practice squad. He's one of two tight ends the team signed to the practice squad Wednesday along with Albert Okwuegbunam.

Waived by Las Vegas
Shorter was waived by the Raiders on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Shorter was active for all three of the team's preseason contests, reeling in three catches for 22 yards. The wide receiver played in 10 regular-season games with Las Vegas in 2024, but he failed to record any offensive stats in those contests. Shorter will now be placed on waivers, and his experience last season could make him an intriguing target for the rest of the league.

Clear to suit up Week 15
Shorter (back) doesn't have an injury designation for Monday's matchup against Atlanta, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shorter missed last Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, but he'll be able to return Monday after logging an LP/LP/FP progression during practice this week. The 24-year-old tight end has played primarily on special teams this year and hasn't seen a passing target on 23 offensive snaps over six contests.

Won't play Sunday vs. Bucs
Shorter (back) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Shorter was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, but he ended the week with consecutive DNPs due to a back injury. With Shorter sidelined for Sunday's contest, Harrison Bryant will serve as the Raiders' No. 3 tight end behind Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer. Shorter's next opportunity to play will be Week 15 against the Falcons on Monday, Dec. 16.

Officially joins active roster
Shorter was signed to the Raiders' active roster Friday.
ANALYSIS
Shorter was elevated to the active roster for each of the team's last two games, failing to garner a target while playing five offensive snaps. He will now likely have an extended stay on the 53-man roster and he'll look to carve out a larger role for himself as a reserve option behind Brock Bowers and Harrison Bryant at tight end.

Reverts to practice squad
Shorter reverted to Las Vegas' practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Shorter saw playing time on both offense and special teams with Harrison Bryant (elbow) out but failed to record any stats. The 24-year-old could be elevated again Week 9 versus the Bengals if Bryant remains sidelined.
Oct 26, 2024
Elevated for Week 8
The Raiders elevated Shorter from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Shorter may get a chance to suit up in a depth capacity Sunday versus the Chiefs. He was also elevated for the team's loss to the Rams in Week 7, a game in which he contributed on special teams and played just three offensive snaps.
Oct 21, 2024
Back with practice squad
Shorter reverted to the Raiders' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Shorter was elevated to the active roster ahead of Sunday's 20-15 loss to the Rams, failing to record any stats while playing three offensive snaps and 12 snaps with the special-teams unit. The tight end can still be added to the game day roster for two more games before the team would have to officially sign him to the active roster.
Oct 19, 2024
Elevated for Week 7
The Raiders elevated Shorter from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Shorter signed with the Raiders' practice squad in late August after failing to make the Bills' 53-man roster at the end of training camp. He missed all of 2023 due to a hamstring injury, but he could make his NFL regular-season debut Sunday against the Rams, though it would likely be in a special-teams role as he's listed as the fourth tight end on the Raiders' depth chart behind Brock Bowers, Harrison Bryant and John Samuel Shenker.

Finds work in Vegas
Shorter signed with the Raiders' practice squad Thursday.
ANALYSIS
It appears that Shorter is switching positions after playing wide receiver throughout college and in the NFL, as he was announced as a tight end when the Raiders signed him to their practice squad Thursday. At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds with a 4.55 40-yard dash time, Shorter becomes a very intriguing vertical threat at TE if he can make it onto Las Vegas' active roster at any point this season.

Cut by Buffalo
The Bills waived Shorter on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Once a top recruit coming out of high school, Shorter never put it all together at Penn State and Florida before being taken in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by Buffalo. He missed his entire rookie season with a hamstring injury and then dealt with a knee issue this summer. Shorter played 52 offensive snaps this preseason but caught just two passes for 15 yards. At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds with 4.55 wheels, Shorter has a tantalizing blend of size and speed but has yet to realize that potential.

Recovers from knee injury
Shorter (knee) returned to practice Monday, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Shorter is now healthy once again after sitting out practice last week due to a knee injury. The 24-year-old will now compete for a roster spot as a backup receiver after missing the entirety of last season with a hamstring injury.
Aug 7, 2024
Sidelined by injury
Shorter (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Shorter spent the 2023 campaign on IR due to a hamstring injury after the Bills selected him in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Florida product is a sizable target at 6-foot-4 and should be in contention for a depth role in Buffalo's receiving corps if he can get and stay healthy.
May 8, 2024
Candidate for depth WR role
Shorter, whose rookie season was derailed by a hamstring injury, is in line to compete for depth slotting behind fellow wide receivers Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Curtis Samuel, the Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Bills took Shorter in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he never saw game action after being placed on IR ahead of the regular season. Though Shorter was designated to return from IR in December and was subsequently able to practice with the team, he wasn't activated when his 21-day window closed. Now presumably past his hamstring issue, the 6-4, 223-pounder is slated to vie with Chase Claypool, Mack Hollins, KJ Hamler, Andy Isabella and Quintez Cephus for a reserve WR/special teams role in his second campaign with Buffalo.

Will not play this season
Shorter (hamstring) had his 21-day practice window closed Wednesday, and he'll remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.
ANALYSIS
Shorter was designated to return from IR on Dec. 13, but he was unable to find his way onto the 53-man roster. Since his practice window has closed, he is now forced back onto injured reserve and will not be able to play or practice with the team for the remainder of the campaign. The 2023 fifth-round selection never played a regular season game with the Bills this year, but will work to return healthy next season and to carve out a regular role for himself in the team's receiving corps then.
Dec 21, 2023
Won't play Sunday
Shorter (hamstring) will not be activated from injured reserve before Saturday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Shorter has been practicing with the team since he was designated to return from injured reserve Dec. 13. However, the rookie receiver will remain sidelined for at least one more game before he makes his NFL debut. His next opportunity to suit up will be Week 17 against the Patriots.
Dec 13, 2023
Window opens
Shorter (hamstring) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shorter was a fifth-round selection in the 2023 Draft and has yet to play this season after going on IR on Aug. 30. He'll now have a 21-day window to practice with the team before needing to be added to the 53-man roster, but he is eligible to return as soon as Sunday against the Cowboys.
Aug 30, 2023
Lands on IR
The Bills placed Shorter (hamstring) on IR on Wednesday, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Shorter made the Bills' 53-man roster after finishing the preseason with six catches for 66 yards and a touchdown while also contributing to special teams. He'll be required to miss at least four games to start the season as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
May 11, 2023
Officially a Bill
Shorter was one of five rookie draft picks signed by Buffalo on Thursday, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Shorter, a fifth-round pick out of Florida, signed a standard rookie four-year deal, as did his new teammates O'Cyrus Torrence, Dorian Williams, Nick Broeker and Alex Austin. Shorter has his work cut out for him just to avoid the practice squad, though as high-powered as this Bills team can be, there are no established wideouts currently on the roster once you get past Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

Links up with Buffalo
The Bills selected Shorter in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 150th overall.
ANALYSIS
The Bills are adding some serious size to their pass-catching group with first-round TE Dalton Kincaid and now Shorter. A five-star recruit out of high school in 2018, Shorter never really latched on at Penn State and ultimately transferred to Florida. He was a two-year contributor for the Gators and amassed over 1,000 combined receiving yards in his final two seasons. Though Shorter has flaws to his game, he's a good athlete (4.55 40) for his size (6-foot-4, 229) and compares physically to Gabriel Davis. At best, Shorter will be a backup to Davis in that role in the Buffalo offense and it's unlikely that he will develop into an every-down player.
