KaVontae Turpin Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Eagles vs Cowboys game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 5, 2025
Gains 13 total yards on offense
Turpin caught two of three targets for 10 yards and rushed once for three yards in Monday's 27-17 loss to the Cardinals. He added 151 kickoff return yards and six punt return yards.
ANALYSIS
Turpin continued to have a minimal impact on offense Monday, doing most of his damage on kickoff returns. The fourth-year wideout is not involved enough in the Cowboys' offensive plans to garner much fantasy attention, but with Monday's performance on special teams, the TCU product is now fourth in the NFL with 722 kickoff return yards. Turpin will remain extremely difficult to trust for fantasy purposes as the Cowboys head into their Week 10 bye before a matchup against the Raiders in Week 11.
Oct 27, 2025
Does little on five targets
Turpin caught one of five targets for minus-2 yards in Sunday's loss to the Broncos. He added 86 yards on three kickoff returns.
ANALYSIS
The five targets were third on the Cowboys behind CeeDee Lamb (10) and George Pickens (nine), but Turpin couldn't get on the same page with either of the quarterbacks he got them from, as Joe Milton replaced Dak Prescott late in the 44-24 blowout loss. Turpin's main value to Dallas still comes as a return man, and despite missing two games with a foot injury, the 29-year-old is still fifth in the NFL with 571 kickoff return yards.
Oct 20, 2025
Back in usual role
Turpin caught his only target for 17 yards and added 80 kickoff return yards and four punt return yards in Sunday's 44-22 win over the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
After missing the prior two games with a foot issue, Turpin returned to the lineup and resumed his usual role as the Cowboys' top kick returner and depth wideout. He had seen multiple touches on offense in each of his first four games of the season, although not more than six in any contest, so his lack of usage may have had something to do with him being eased back into action. Turpin could see more targets and jet sweep carries in Week 8 if Dallas has any trouble generating yards against a stingy Denver defense, but he's no real threat to the volume of CeeDee Lamb or George Pickens.
Oct 17, 2025
Cleared for Week 7 return
Turpin (foot) was a full practice participant Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Washington, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin won't necessarily return to his pre-injury role, as the Cowboys are also getting CeeDee Lamb (ankle) back in the lineup this week and now have Ryan Flournoy as a potential competitor for depth snaps. If nothing else, Turpin will have his familiar role as a return man on special teams and a gadget player on offense. Consistent snaps as the No. 3 receiver are far less certain, though it's something the Cowboys have toyed with a few times.
Oct 16, 2025
Limited again Thursday
Turpin (foot) was limited at practice Thursday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin has now logged back-to-back limited sessions since retaking the practice field Wednesday, meaning he'll likely have to upgrade to full reps Friday in order to avoid an injury designation for Sunday's matchup against the Commanders. If Turpin is able to return to action Week 7, he'll operate as Dallas' top option in the return game and play a depth role at wide receiver.
Oct 15, 2025
Returns as limited participant
Turpin (foot) was a limited participant Wednesday in his return to practice, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
This is Turbin's first participation in a practice or game since Week 4, and it comes on the same day as CeeDee Lamb's return to practice. The Cowboys still have a lengthy injury report, but things are at least trending upward on the offensive side, with G Tyler Booker (ankle) also returning to practice Wednesday.
Oct 15, 2025
Slated to practice Wednesday
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said Turpin (foot) is expected to practice Wednesday, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin didn't practice at all in advance of sitting out Weeks 5 and 6 due to a foot injury, so his return in some capacity Wednesday is a sign of progress in his recovery. His activity level will be confirmed once the Cowboys post their first Week 7 practice report.
Oct 13, 2025
Chance to return Week 7
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said Monday that Turpin (foot) is among injured players who "have a chance" to retake the field Sunday versus the Commanders, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin has missed back-to-back games due to a lingering foot injury, and he hasn't yet practiced in any capacity in that span. If he's able to resume getting in at least limited on-field reps during Week 7 prep, it seems he'll have a fair shot at returning for Sunday's divisional matchup against Washington. Star wideout CeeDee Lamb (ankle) reportedly also has a chance to get back on the field versus the Commanders.
Oct 10, 2025
Remains sidelined Week 6
Turpin (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Turpin will miss a second consecutive game due to a foot injury he suffered in Week 4 against the Packers. He has yet to practice since sustaining the injury. Jaydon Blue and Jalen Tolbert are expected to return kickoffs and punts, respectively, in Turpin's absence.
Oct 9, 2025
Sits out another practice
Turpin (foot) did not practice Thursday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin hasn't practiced in any capacity since suffering a foot injury during the Cowboys' overtime tie with the Packers in Week 4, and he's already stated that he doesn't anticipate suiting up Week 6. With Turpin likely unavailable for Sunday's road game against the Panthers and CeeDee Lamb (ankle) also a candidate to remain sidelined, George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert, Ryan Flournoy and tight end Jake Freguson will continue benefiting from expanded opportunities in the receiving game.
Oct 8, 2025
Unlikely to play Week 6
Turpin (foot) said Wednesday he does not anticipate gaining clearance for Sunday's road matchup against the Panthers, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin appears on track to miss a second consecutive game due to a lingering foot sprain. Ryan Flournoy, who broke out with six catches for 114 yards one nine targets versus the Jets in Week 5, will again benefit from increased opportunities on offense versus Carolina if Turpin is unable to go, while Jaydon Blue and Jalen Tolbert would likely see an uptick in return work.
Oct 3, 2025
Sidelined for Week 5
Turpin (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin didn't practice at all this week while managing a foot sprain and will now miss just his second game since signing with Dallas ahead of the 2022 season. A two-time Pro Bowl selection as a return man, Turpin typically makes his biggest splash on special teams, but he's also taken hold of a larger role on offense in his fourth NFL season. Turpin had averaged 4.3 touches per game over the first four weeks of the campaign, but his absence along with CeeDee Lamb's (ankle) should free up more opportunities for George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert and Ryan Flournoy at receiver.
Oct 2, 2025
Sits out another practice
Turpin (foot) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
During this past Sunday's 40-40 tie with the Packers, Turpin sustained a sprained foot, which has kept him from practicing Wednesday and Thursday. Though the pair of absences to kick off Week 5 prep don't inspire much early confidence that Turpin will be ready to play Sunday against the Jets, Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News relays that the Cowboys don't anticipate the two-time Pro Bowl return specialist requiring a stint on injured reserve. Still, with Turpin banged up and with top wideout CeeDee Lamb (ankle) set to miss another game in Week 5, the Dallas receiving corps could be shorthanded once again.
Oct 1, 2025
Officially limited Wednesday
Turpin (foot) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin wasn't spotted at the early portion of Wednesday's practice, so it's encouraging to see him officially listed as a limited participant. The No. 4 receiver and standout return man is nursing a foot injury sustained during the Cowboys' overtime tie against the Packers in Week 4. He'll have two more opportunities to upgrade his practice level ahead of Sunday's game against the Jets.
Oct 1, 2025
Not spotted at practice
Turpin (foot) was not spotted at the early portion of Wednesday's practice open to the media, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin is reportedly managing a foot injury sustained during the Cowboys' overtime tie with the Packers in Week 4, making him uncertain for Sunday's road matchup against the winless Jets. If Turpin ends up missing any time, Jalen Tolbert will handle an increased workload on offense alongside George Pickens, as well as in the return game.
Sep 29, 2025
Three grabs in Sunday's tie
Turpin caught three of four targets for 30 yards, gained four yards on his only carry and added 175 yards on six kickoff returns during Sunday's 40-40 overtime tie with the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Even with CeeDee Lamb (ankle) on the shelf, Turpin didn't see a significant increase in his role as a receiver, with his 42 snaps on offense actually being less than the 48 he got over only four quarters last week against the Bears. He remains one of the NFL's preeminent return men however, with his 175 yards Sunday being a season high, and his 405 kickoff return yards on the season are second in the league behind the Titans' Chimere Dike (530).
Sep 22, 2025
Big-play specialist Sunday
Turpin caught two of three targets for 64 yards, rushed for four yards on his only carry and added 77 return yards on two kickoff and two punt returns in Sunday's loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
While he remains a threat as a return man every time he touches the ball, Turpin is also beginning to make an impact as a receiver, hauling in gains of 27 and 37 yards in Sunday's blowout loss. Over the last two games, he's produced a 6-111-1 line on seven targets, and Turpin's role in the Cowboys offense could increase further if CeeDee Lamb (ankle) is sidelined for a Week 4 clash with the Packers.
Sep 18, 2025
Resumes practicing in full
Turpin (neck) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin was listed as limited on Wednesday's injury report, though the Cowboys had merely held a walkthrough practice. In any case, Turpin now looks ready to rock for Sunday's road game against the Bears. Turpin's neck injury forced him to depart Week 2 against the Giants early, but before leaving the field he brought in all four of his targets for 47 yards and a score while racking up six rushing yards on two carries.
Sep 17, 2025
Listed as limited
Turpin (neck) is listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's injury report, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys merely held a walkthrough, which means Turpin's participation level is an estimate. He never rejoined Sunday's win over the Giants after leaving in the third quarter, but the 'limited' listing Wednesday suggests Turpin may have some hope for Week 3 at Chicago. If not, Jalen Tolbert likely will take on more work as the No. 3 receiver, rather than sharing the role with Turpin again.
Sep 14, 2025
Suffers neck injury
Turpin exited Sunday's game against the Giants due to a neck injury, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After a kick return with less than six minutes remaining in the third quarter, Turpin visited the sideline tent before heading to the locker room without a helmet. Prior to his departure, he hauled in all four of his targets for 47 yards and one touchdown, recorded two carries for six yards, returned four kickoffs for 100 yards and tallied a two-yard punt return.
Sep 5, 2025
Four touches in Thursday's loss
Turpin carried the ball twice for nine yards, caught both his targets for 18 yards and added 81 yards on four kickoff returns in Thursday's loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
The new kickoff rules helped Turpin gain a big chunk of all-purpose yards, but the fourth-year wideout didn't see a significantly larger role on offense than he did in 2024 -- he saw at least four touches on six occasions last year. Turpin is a threat for a big play whenever he gets the ball in his hands, but outside of formats that reward return yards, his fantasy value remains limited.
Aug 9, 2025
Not playing Saturday
Turpin is among Cowboys players not suiting up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin, as Dallas' top kick returner, joins the majority of the team's starters in sitting out Saturday. The 29-year-old has also historically contributed as a depth wideout, and he's seen opportunities taking snaps out of the backfield this offseason. With Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders (knee), Jaydon Blue (heel) and Deuce Vaughn currently competing for reps in an unsolidified backfield, Turpin's speed gives him a genuine chance to work into what may shape up to be a committee approach.
Jul 24, 2025
Getting work in backfield
Turpin has taken handoffs with the first-team offense during the first couple days of training camp, Patrik Walker of DallasCowboys.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old is locked into a roster spot as the Cowboys' primary kick returner and as a depth option at wideout, but Turpin could be adding more duties to his portfolio. Dallas lacks an established starter in the backfield, with bargain free-agent signings Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders battling with rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah, as well as holdover Deuce Vaughn, for snaps and touches, and Turpin appears to be tossing his hat in the ring. While he's unlikely to win the top job outright, he could work in as part of a committee and provide a direct threat to Blue and Vaughn as an undersized speedster who can contribute as a receiver.
Mar 11, 2025
Re-signs for three years
Turpin and the Cowboys reached agreement Tuesday on a three-year contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Turpin will become the "highest-paid special teams player in NFL history", although part of the motivation for re-signing him is that he's also a significant contributor on offense. He caught 31 of 52 targets for 420 yards and two TDs last season, adding 16 carries for 92 yards, 18 punt returns for 187 yards (with one TD) and 27 kick returns for 904 yards (and another TD). Turpin is a late bloomer who went undrafted back in 2019 and didn't make a regular-season appearance until 2022, which explains why he'll be 29 years old at the start of his fourth NFL campaign come September. He'll presumably land somewhere between third and fifth on the depth chart at wide receiver, in addition to returning both punts and kickoffs.
Jan 6, 2025
Three grabs in Sunday's loss
Turpin caught three of five targets for 53 yards, gained five rushing yards on his only carry and added 32 return yards in Sunday's loss to the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
The versatile third-year wideout hauled in multiple passes for the first time since Week 13. Turpin took on a slightly bigger role in the Cowboys' offense down the stretch with CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) on the shelf, but his primary value to Dallas comes on special teams -- the 28-year-old is one of the league's elite return men, leading the NFL with 904 kickoff return yards in 2024, and Turpin was the only player to score a TD on both a punt and a kickoff return this season. He'll be a free agent this offseason, and his services figure to be in high demand.
Dec 30, 2024
Three touches against Philly
Turpin caught one of four targets for 16 yards and gained 18 rushing yards on two carries in Sunday's loss to the Eagles. He also added 48 yards on two kickoff returns.
ANALYSIS
The star returner leads the NFL with 874 kickoff return yards and 1,060 combined kickoff and punt return yards, and he's the only player in the league to score a touchdown on each kind of return. Turpin didn't see his usage as a receiver increase significantly in Week 17 however, even with CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) done for the season, and the 28-year-old hasn't caught more than one pass in a game since Week 13. Turpin's role may not change much in Week 18 against the Commanders, but if the Cowboys do decide to rest starters, he's more likely to be among the players to sit than to benefit.
Dec 25, 2024
Four touches in win
Turpin caught his lone target for seven yards and rushed three times for 11 yards in Sunday's 26-24 win over the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Turpin was unable to produce much on his four touches against Tampa Bay, being used more as a rusher than a receiver in the Cowboys' offensive scheme Sunday. The third-year wideout has flashed impressive playmaking ability this season, but he lacks consistency in his production to make him a reliable fantasy option on a weekly basis. Next up for Turpin and the Cowboys is a Week 17 matchup with the Eagles.
Dec 18, 2024
Modest production in win
Turpin failed to secure his lone target in Sunday's 30-14 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Though Turpin didn't record a reception Sunday, he did manage to gain 27 yards on two rushing attempts against the Panthers. The speedy wideout played just 14 of the Cowboys' 73 offensive snaps and was held without a catch for just the fourth time all season. Turpin is a dynamic weapon, but he does not see enough consistent usage in the Cowboys offense to be a viable fantasy asset. With that said, the 28-year-old will look to be more involved in Week 16 against a vulnerable Tampa Bay secondary.
Dec 2, 2024
Leading receiver on Thanksgiving
Turpin caught four of five targets for 53 yards in a 27-20 win over the Giants on Thanksgiving. He added two rushing yards on his lone carry.
ANALYSIS
With CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) sitting out most of the second half, Turpin wound up leading the Cowboys in receiving yards, although Luke Schoonmaker hauled in one more pass. Turpin's five touches and five targets were his highest totals since Week 6, but with Brandin Cooks now off IR, the third-year player could see his usage on offense dwindle once Lamb is healthy. Turpin will remain Dallas' top kick returner regardless, a role in which he's racked up 903 return yards and two touchdowns in 2024.
Nov 25, 2024
Returns kickoff to house Sunday
Turpin caught his only target for eight yards and added 179 yards on four kickoff returns, including a 99-yard return for a touchdown, in Sunday's win over the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
The two teams combined for four touchdowns in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter, and Turpin contributed to the frantic finish with his first career kickoff return for a TD, and his fourth total score of the season (two receiving, one punt return). Turpin leads the NFL in return yards with 906, and among primary returners only Washington's Austin Ekeler has more all-purpose yards (1,295 to 1,195).
Nov 20, 2024
Finds end zone against Texans
Turpin caught all three of his targets for 86 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 34-10 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Turpin finished the contest with the best offensive play for the Cowboys, scoring on a 64-yard pass from Cooper Rush early in the second quarter. The third-year wideout has flashed his impressive speed and playmaking ability at points during the 2024 campaign, but his production has mostly been inconsistent with limited touches on offense. Its possible Turpin could see his involvement in the passing game increase going forward, as the struggling Dallas offense could use a spark to turn things around down the stretch. Unfortunately, his usage will likely continue to be difficult to predict from one week to the next. Turpin and the Cowboys are set to visit the Commanders in Week 12.
Nov 13, 2024
Non-factor against Philadelphia
Turpin failed to record a single target in Sunday's 34-6 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Turpin was not targeted in the passing attack for just the second time all season and was held without a touch one offense for the third time through nine games. The third-year wideout played just eight of the Cowboys' 60 offensive snaps, the fewest of any Dallas wide receiver in the contest. Turpin's limited usage, along with the fact that Dak Prescott (hamstring) is undergoing season-ending surgery, are more than enough to keep Turpin off the fantasy radar. The Cowboys will host the Texans in Week 11.
Nov 4, 2024
Three grabs in Atlanta
Turpin caught three of four targets for 36 yards in Sunday's loss to the Falcons. He also added 65 return yards on three punts and one kickoff.
ANALYSIS
The third-year wideout had a chance to take a punt to the house in the fourth quarter, but he couldn't stay in bounds as he raced down the sideline. Turpin has seen at least four targets in four straight games as his role in the offense grows, posting a 12-126-0 line on 20 targets over that stretch while adding 11 rushing yards on three carries, and he could see even more volume in Week 10 against the Eagles if CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) isn't able to suit up.
Oct 30, 2024
Targeted four times in loss
Turpin caught one of four targets for 16 yards and added one carry for 11 yards in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Turpin had a quiet day against the 49ers, as he was unable to connect with quarterback Dak Prescott on multiple occasions. The 28-year-old wideout played just 14 of the Cowboys' 62 offensive snaps, behind CeeDee Lamb (55), Jalen Tolbert (55) and Jalen Brooks (41). Turpin is not a priority in the Cowboys' passing attack, and his playing time will likely take even more of a hit once Brandin Cooks (knee) returns to the field from his stint on injured reserve. The Cowboys are set to visit the Falcons in Week 9.
Oct 14, 2024
Seeing steady work
Turpin caught four of seven targets for 24 yards and gained six yards on his only carry in Sunday's loss to the Lions. He also added 194 yards on four kickoff returns.
ANALYSIS
His biggest play came right before halftime, when Turpin took a kickoff at the back of the end zone and zipped 79 yards to the Detroit 30-yard line. The Cowboys only got a field goal out of it though, en route to a 47-9 shellacking. The seven targets were a career high for Turpin, and the third-year speedster has hauled in eight catches for 74 yards over two games since Brandin Cooks (knee) was placed on IR. Turpin should remain a secondary part of the passing offense, in addition to his special-teams role, on the other side of the Cowboys' Week 7 bye.
Oct 7, 2024
Five touches Sunday
Turpin caught four of five targets for 50 yards and lost six yards on his only carry in Sunday's win over the Steelers. he added 38 yards on his only kickoff return.
ANALYSIS
With Brandin Cooks (knee) on IR, Turpin stepped into the No. 3 wide receiver role behind CeeDee Lamb and Jalen Tolbert and set season highs in receptions and targets. His biggest play came on the Cowboys' first drive of the second half, as Dak Prescott found him deep over the middle for a 34-yard strike. Turpin isn't likely to see big volume without further injuries ahead of him on the Dallas depth chart, but his ability to pop for a big gain any time he gets the ball makes him an upside option while Cooks is sidelined.
Sep 23, 2024
Finds end zone in loss
Turpin caught all three of his targets for 51 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
He also added one yard on his lone carry. Turpin's first offensive TD of the season came late in the fourth quarter on a 16-yard pass from Dak Prescott as the Cowboys furiously tried to rally from a 21-6 halftime deficit. With Brandin Cooks struggling, Turpin's role on offense could continue to increase, but his main value to Dallas comes in the return game -- he has 165 total return yards through three games, including a Week 1 punt-return touchdown.
Sep 9, 2024
Takes punt to house Sunday
Turpin failed to catch his only target but produced 130 return yards in Sunday's win over the Browns, including a 60-yard punt return for a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
It's the first career return TD for the dynamic 28-year-old. Turpin's 96 punt return yards Sunday already exceeds his total from all of 2023, and he took advantage of the NFL's new rules to jet 34 yards on his lone kickoff return. The big performance will likely remind other teams why they stopped kicking the ball to Turpin last year, but as he has shown in his cameos on offense -- four TDs in only 27 career touches -- he's capable of scoring anytime he gets the ball in his hands.
Aug 26, 2024
Doesn't play in preseason
Turpin didn't see action in any of Dallas' three preseason games this year.
ANALYSIS
That's good news for the TCU product, as Turpin is locked in as the Cowboys' top kick returner and had nothing to prove during the exhibition schedule. Teams avoided putting the ball in Turpin's hands last year, and his total return yards dropped from 811 in his rookie campaign to 371 in 2023, but the NFL's new kickoff rules should give the 28-year-old more opportunities to break away for his first career kick return touchdown. With CeeDee Lamb still holding out and Brandin Cooks (knee) not 100 percent at the end of training camp, Turpin could also see more snaps on offense early in the season after he scored four TDs on only 23 offensive touches last year.
Jan 22, 2024
Gets more involved in offense
Turpin caught 12 of 18 targets for 127 yards and three touchdowns, gained 110 rushing yards and a TD on 11 carries, and added 371 return yards over 16 regular-season games in 2023.
ANALYSIS
Teams learned not to kick it to Turpin after his impressive rookie campaign as a returner in 2022, but the Cowboys found ways to get the ball in his hands on offense instead, and the 27-year-old delivered one of the most eye-popping touch-to-TD ratios in the league. Turpin's last touchdown came in Week 12 though, and he got only five touches in seven games down the stretch, including Dallas' wild-card loss to Green Bay. He has one more season left on his current contract worth less than $1 million, but it wouldn't be surprising if the Cowboys signed him to an extension this offseason given his value on special teams and as a gadget player on offense.
Nov 27, 2023
Hauls in Thanksgiving TD
Turpin caught his only target for a 34-yard touchdown in a 45-10 rout of the Commanders on Thanksgiving.
ANALYSIS
The second-year return man continues to get occasional usage on offense as the Cowboys try to take advantage of his speed and elusiveness, and Turpin's lone grab Thursday produced the team's final offensive score of the afternoon. It's his third receiving TD of the season and fourth overall on just 18 touches, and while that volume doesn't give him a lot of utility in many fantasy leagues, he's provided some value in deeper best-ball leagues.
Nov 20, 2023
Three touches in return
Turpin gained 13 rushing yards on his lone carry and caught two of three targets for 10 yards in Sunday's win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
After missing last week's rout of the Giants with a shoulder injury, Turpin returned to his usual role as the main kick returner for Dallas and a gadget player on offense, although Carolina never gave him a chance to make an impact in the return game. Turpin has only 17 touches in nine games this season but has scored three TDs, and he remains a threat to break a big play any time he has the ball in his hands ahead of a meeting with the Commanders on Thanksgiving.
Nov 15, 2023
Returns to field
Turpin (shoulder) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin was unable to practice last week and ultimately sat out the team's win over the Giants on Sunday. The 27-year-old has now put that injury behind him with a return to full participation and should be ready to take the field Sunday against the Panthers.
Nov 12, 2023
Sitting out Sunday
Turpin (shoulder) is inactive for Sunday's Week 10 game against the Giants, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin was never able to get on the practice field during Week 10 prep and believed to be trending toward an absence as a result, and that is now officially confirmed. With the speedy reserve wideout and primary return out of action Sunday, rookies Jalen Brooks and Deuce Vaughn are in line to fill his No. 5 receiver role and kickoff/punt return duties, respectively, versus New York.
Nov 12, 2023
Likely to sit out Sunday
Turpin (shoulder), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants, is considered unlikely to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Dallas will evaluate Turpin in pregame warmups before making a call on his status ahead of Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, but the 27-year-old looks to be trending toward sitting out after failing to practice in any fashion Wednesday through Friday. Turpin typically holds only a minor role on offense as a gadget player, but he earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2022 for his efforts as a kickoff and punt returner. Rookie Deuce Vaughn will likely handle return duties Sunday if Turpin is out.
Nov 10, 2023
Questionable to face G-Men
Turpin (shoulder) is questionable for Sunday's Week 10 game against the Giants, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin didn't practice at all this week, so he's likely on the wrong side of the questionable tag. We'll know Turpin's status 90 minutes ahead of the 4:25 PM ET kickoff. The team's primary return man, Turpin has played just 14 percent of the Cowboys' offensive snaps this season, scoring three touchdowns on 14 touches.
Nov 9, 2023
Sits out practice again
Turpin (shoulder/hip) didn't take part in practice Thursday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin has now missed two consecutive practices to begin Week 10 prep while he contends with a pair of injuries. The 27-year-old has seen a slight uptick in snaps on offense of late and has garnered three touches over his last two contests, but Turpin is primarily valued for his contributions as a return man. Archer notes that Deuce Vaughn, Rico Dowdle and Juanyeh Thomas worked as the Cowboys' kickoff returners at Thursday's practice, while Vaughn worked as the team's punt returner.
Nov 8, 2023
Misses practice
Turpin was held out of Wednesday's practice with a shoulder injury, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin has returned both punts and kickoffs in recent weeks, including kickoff returns of 48 and 63 yards over the past two games. He's also done well with his limited chances on offense, carrying seven times for 66 yards and a touchdown while adding seven catches for 69 yards and two scores on nine targets. The Cowboys may turn to Deuce Vaughn to handle returns if Turpin isn't ready for a matchup with the Giants this Sunday.

TD grab in Sunday's loss
Turpin caught his only target for a five-yard touchdown, gained zero yards on his only carry and added 71 return yards in Sunday's loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
The second-year speedster took his lone kickoff return 48 yards to set up a Jake Ferguson TD late in the first quarter, and Dak Prescott then rewarded Turpin with a score of his own on the Cowboys' next possession. The 27-year-old hasn't seen more than two touches in a game on offense since Week 2, but Turpin's gotten into the end zone three times on 14 total touches this season and he remains a threat to take the ball to the house every time he gets his hands on it.

Makes impact in return game
Turpin caught one of two targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 43-20 win over the Rams. He added 88 yards on two kickoff returns.
ANALYSIS
The second-year speedster set up Dallas' third touchdown of the day with a 63-yard return early in the second quarter, and he took another kick to the house later in the game only to have it wiped out by a penalty. Turpin's average of 28.4 yards per kickoff return is fourth in the league among players with at least five returns, and the Cowboys' efforts to get the ball in his hands on offense have resulted in one rushing and one receiving TD this season on only 12 touches.

Practices fully Friday
Turpin (ankle) returned to full practice participation Friday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin didn't practice Thursday due to an ankle injury, but he was back in there without limitations Friday. Dallas won't release its injury report for Monday's matchup with the Chargers until Saturday, but barring a setback, Turpin will likely avoid an injury designation, allowing him to fill his usual role as a return man and part-time offensive player.

Misses practice Thursday
Turpin (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin injured his ankle on a punt return in Week 5. On the season, Turpin has played just 52 offensive snaps and has recorded five catches for 51 yards and one touchdown on six targets. He's also rushed six times for 66 yards and one score. Turpin is a gadget player on offense in addition to his returner duties.

Done with ankle injury
Turpin (ankle) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's matchup with the 49ers, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin suffered an ankle injury in the first half and he'll now officially remain out for the rest of the contest. The wide receiver was able to reel in a 26-yard touchdown catch while also returning two kicks for 33 yards prior to going down.

Breaks long gain in Sunday's rout
Turpin gained 46 rushing yards on his only carry, caught his only target for five yards and added 13 yards on two punt returns in Sunday's 38-3 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
The second-year gadget player nearly took a jet sweep to the end zone early in the fourth quarter, but Turpin got caught from behind and fumbled the ball in the Patriots' red zone, although Dallas tight end Sean McKeon was able to recover it. Turpin has seen only five touches on offense over the last three weeks, but with No. 2 running back Rico Dowdle (hip) potentially set to miss some time, he could see more work out of the backfield alongside rookie Deuce Vaughn. Turpin's big-play ability isn't likely to show up in Week 5 against an elite 49ers defense, however.

Finds end zone against Giants
Turpin carried the ball three times for 14 yards and a touchdown and caught two of three targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 40-0 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Dallas coach Mike McCarthy hinted over the summer that Turpin might see more usage on offense this season, and in the first game of 2023 he saw more offensive touches than he did in all of 2022 while scoring his first NFL touchdown on a seven-yard scamper. Those touches, and the TD, did come in the fourth quarter when the game was well in hand, however. Turpin's main role for the Cowboys will continue to be as the top return man -- he gained 17 yards on two punt returns Sunday -- but getting into the end zone in Week 1 should give McCarthy confidence that the second-year player can make an impact if he gets more opportunities.

Confirmed as top return man
Turpin will be the Cowboys' primary kick returner this season, Nick Harris of the team's website reports.
ANALYSIS
"We have a Pro Bowl returner in Turp," special teams coordinator John Fassel said Thursday. "I think he's become a much better punt catcher, even though I think he was very good at it before. He's special, I envision him being even more special this year than he was last year." An electric performance from rookie Deuce Vaughn in camp and the preseason had created some buzz Turpin might be squeezed off the roster, but his spot appears secure. What's less clear is whether the 27-year-old will have a bigger role on offense this season after seeing only two targets and getting three carries on jet sweeps in 2022.

Making an impression
Turpin is one of eight players who have impressed during training camp, Jon Machota of the Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Turpin impressed as the team's return man last season and continues to show off those skills in camp. More importantly, Turpin is continuing to improve as a receiver and has been consistently making plays on offense. The second-year pro should make the 53-man roster due to his previously mentioned special-teams skills, but he may be making a case for a larger role on offense as well.

Hopes to get more offensive chances
Appearing on the Blogging the Boys podcast, Turpin said he hopes to get more chances on offense in 2023.
ANALYSIS
After being named the MVP of the USFL in 2022, Turpin signed a three-year deal with Dallas and made the Pro Bowl as a returner. He played just 62 snaps on offense, however, rushing three times for 17 yards and catching 1-of-2 targets for nine yards. With both Noah Brown and T.Y. Hilton slated for free agency, Turpin wants a shot to play more snaps. "They are going to try and get me on the offense and try to make guys respect me more on both sides of the ball," Turpin said. "I'm going into this training camp, I'm basically trying to show them that they have no choice but to use me on offense, that's my mindset." At 5'9/153, Turpin would do well to carve out a role in special packages. He's unlikely to come into fantasy relevance.

Shines on special teams
Turpin finished seventh in the NFL with 808 return yards and fifth with a 10.4 yard average on punt returns over 17 games in 2022.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old rookie saw little work on offense, taking three carries for 17 yards and catching one of two targets for nine yards, but the 2021 USFL MVP became a 2022 NFL Pro-Bowler due to his prowess in the return game. Turpin didn't manage to return a kick for a touchdown but came close on multiple occasions, and with two more years remaining on the very affordable contract he signed last July, he should be a key weapon on special teams for the Cowboys again in 2023.

Suiting up Week 18
Turpin (illness) is active for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The reigning USFL MVP and Pro Bowl returner will therefore sidestep inactive status for the finale after being added to the injury report Friday. Turpin should continue to operate in his usual special-teams capacity versus Washington, although he perhaps could also see some snaps on offense if the Cowboys sit some of their starters early in the regular-season finale.

Dealing with illness
Turpin didn't practice Friday and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup against Washington due to an illness.
ANALYSIS
Turpin landed on the injury report Friday as a non-participant with an illness, and his availability for Sunday's regular-season finale is now in jeopardy. If he doesn't suit up, Tony Pollard and CeeDee Lamb may be asked to handle more return opportunities, though Dallas likely wouldn't want to put two of its most important offensive weapons in too many of those situations with the playoffs looming.

Carries once in Week 8 win
Turpin played six of the Cowboys' 57 snaps on offense in Sunday's 49-29 win over the Bears, finishing with one carry for 11 yards.
ANALYSIS
Though he's listed as a receiver on the Cowboys' official roster, Turpin has logged three carries (for 17 yards) compared to one target through his first eight NFL games. In addition to serving as the Cowboys' top option on kickoff and punt returns, the 5-foot-9, 153-pound Turpin is expected to continue to see most of his limited opportunities on offense as a gadget player during the second half of the season.

Two return TDs against Bolts
Turpin recorded a 98-yard kickoff return and an 86-yard punt return, both for touchdowns, in Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
He also gained seven yards on his only carry, but it was Turpin's electric work on special teams that had the entire league buzzing Saturday night. Per Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News, the 5-foot-7 rookie has a spot on the 53-man roster sewn up, and given the Cowboys' lack of depth at wide receiver heading into Week 1 that could translate into more than just a role as the team's top return man.
