Burton suffered a hamstring injury during training camp, and he will now be forced to miss the entirety of the 2025 campaign as a result of being on IR. The fullback would be eligible to return to action this season if he reached an injury settlement with Denver, otherwise he'll shift his focus to 2026.

Burton has been sidelined in practice throughout August due to a previously undisclosed injury, which has now been clarified as a hamstring injury. Once healthy, he isn't expected to face competition for the team's fullback role.

The fullback has played just 21 total snaps on offense through the Chiefs' first three contests and has gained eight yards on two carries and another two yards on a reception. Regardless of what other skill-position players the Chiefs may lose to injuries as the season unfolds, Burton is unlikely to little more than a bit player on offense in 2022.

Burton spent the 2021 season with the Chiefs, and he earned the majority of his playing time on special teams. That should remain the case in 2022, though he did rush the ball eight times for 26 yards while also tallying the first rushing touchdown of his career last season.

Burton has had dealt with a few COVID-19 scares this season, but as of Wednesday, he has cleared the league's protocols. The 28-year-old should hopefully resume his fullback duties for Sunday's wild-card matchup.

Burton is active for Sunday's game versus the Lions following a false positive COVID-19 test, Amie Just of NOLA.com reports.

Burton tested positive Saturday night, but the Saints have determined it was a false positive, thus making him and the rest of the team available for Sunday's game. The 28-year-old fullback will gear up against the team that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Burton's re-test for COVID-19 came back negative, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Per Underhill, Burton's point of contact test was also negative and he'll be able to play Sunday against the Lions. The report further adds that none of the fullback's teammates tested positive.

The Saints learned late Saturday that Burton tested positive after arriving in Detroit. Alvin Kamara was one of several players sitting next to Burton on the plane, according to the report. With the news of Burton's positive test, it's possible that Sunday's game between the Saints and Lions could be postponed to Monday or Tuesday, or moved past Week 4.
