The 25-year-old will now have just one more chance to increase his practice activity Week 13, or else he'll likely be sidelined for Sunday's game versus San Francisco. Gaskin has been a healthy scratch most weeks in the Dolphins' crowded running backs room this season, though he saw his highest usage of the year with Raheem Mostert (knee) inactive Week 12. If both backs are unable to play, then Salvon Ahmed would be in line for increased touches versus the 49ers.

Gaskin didn't practice Wednesday due to shoulder and ankle injuries, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

With Raheem Mostert (knee) sidelined, Gaskin saw season highs in offensive snaps (24) and rushing attempts (six) during Week 12, but he appears to have picked up a pair of injuries as well. The extent of the shoulder and ankle issues remain unclear, but the backup running back will have two more opportunities to practice before Miami needs to make a decision on his status for Sunday's matchup against San Francisco.

There was speculation that Gaskin's role may increase in Week 9 after Miami traded Chase Edmonds to Denver, but newly acquired Jeff Wilson is active, leaving Gaskin out of the mix again. As long as Raheem Mostert, Salvon Ahmed and Wilson are healthy, it seems unlikely Gaskin will be available moving forward.

Gaskin helped the Dolphins to combine for more than 200 rushing yards against Philadelphia, but chances of securing a spot on the final roster still can't be guaranteed. With Miami having revamped the backfield, all of Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert and Sony Michel now seemingly reside above Gaskin on the depth chart. Even if Gaskin does make it through roster cuts, he will only stand to handle a depth role.

Gaskin has further competition for backfield slotting following the Dolphins' signing of Sony Michel, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN reports.

The Dolphins previously added Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert this offseason, while fellow returnee Salvon Ahmed received a contract tender from the team. Collectively, the moves provide first-year coach Mike McDaniel with a deep backfield with which to work, but in terms of Gaskin's fantasy prospects, when all the key RB cogs are available steady volume figures to be an issue for the 25-year-old, who led Miami with 173 carries (for 612 yards) in 17 games last season, while adding 49 catches for 234 yards and recording seven total TDs in that span.

Gaskin may have fallen as low as No.3 on Miami's running back depth chart, with the team having signed Raheem Mostert (knee) on Wednesday and Chase Edmonds earlier in free agency, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

One of new coach Mike McDaniel's top tasks in Miami is revitalizing the ground game, and he wasted no time in bringing in two experienced and reliable tailbacks. Mostert has already proven an ability to post prolific numbers under McDaniel's scheme, though he is recovering from a serious knee injury, while Edmonds emerged as one of the more effective change-of-pace compliments in the league during his Arizona tenure. Gaskin, meanwhile, posted a career-high 612 rushing yards last season but saw Duke Johnson overtake him for the No. 1 gig down the stretch. If Mostert is fully healthy Week 1, it seems more than possible that Gaskin will only operate in a depth role.

Gaskin had one carry for minus one yards and secured all three of his targets for 11 yards during Sunday's 33-24 win over the Patriots.

Gaskin saw Duke Johnson (25-117-1) overtake the lead role in Miami's backfield down the stretch, while he himself only played 11 percent of offensive snaps during the season finale. With a new coaching staff imminent, the stage would appear set for the Dolphins to re-sign Johnson this offseason and/or bring in further backfield help via free agency or the 2021 NFL Draft. Any such event would cause Gaskins' fantasy value to further dip in dynasty formats, as his chances of beginning the 2022 campaign with a valuable role look increasingly slim. Despite playing a full 17-game slate, Gaskin only finishes 2021 with 173 carries for 612 yards (3.5 YPC) and three scores, to go with 49 catches for 234 yards and four touchdowns on 63 targets.

Gaskin had five carries for 23 yards during Sunday's 34-3 loss to the Titans.

Gaskin also failed to secure his only target, while once again surrendering the lead role to Duke Johnson (seven carries for 49 yards). Though Gaskin was relatively efficient in limited work Week 17, he saw slim opportunities for fantasy success on a day that Tua Tagovailoa fell flat and looked unable to move Miami into scoring range. A regular-season finale against the Patriots could once again position the Dolphins' offense to be stifled, and Gaskin can no longer be considered a lock to receive the bulk of touches out of the backfield.

Gaskin rushed three times for 10 yards and caught one of three targets for six yards in Monday night's 20-3 win over the Saints.

Gaskin saw his workload decrease for a second straight week, as last game's breakout saw Duke Johnson earn a large role alongside Phillip Lindsay, who returned from injury to play for the first time since Week 12. Although Johnson and Lindsay tied for Miami's team lead with 13 carries apiece, neither tailback topped 40 yards. As a result, it'll be interesting to see how the Dolphins divide their backfield snaps in Week 17 versus the Titans, but considering his dip in usage the past couple games, Gaskin may have to earn back his starter's share while being subjected to a committee approach.

Gaskin rushed 10 times for 54 yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 31-24 win over the Jets.

Gaskin was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, so he had limited practice reps heading into this game and thus ceded the majority of the workload to Duke Johnson, who rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts. The strong performance from Johnson could prompt the Colts to keep him in a timeshare with Gaskin, if not the lead role, in Week 16 against the Saints.

Gaskin is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Jets, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Gaskin, along with fellow running back Salvon Ahmed was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, which sets the stage for the duo to be part of a Week 15 backfield that also includes Duke Johnson. Meanwhile, Phillip Lindsay (reserve/COVID-19 list) and Malcolm Brown (quad/IR-R) are unavailable for the contest. Gaskin thus figures to continue to head the Dolphins' ground game Sunday, a role that resulting in him logging 15 carries for 44 yard and two catches for five yards the last time the Dolphins played, back in a Dec. 5 win over the Giants.

Coach Brian Flores was non-committal about playing Gaskin and fellow running back Salvon Ahmed in Sunday's game against the Jets, though neither is listed on the injury report after returning from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.

Gaskin was on the list for seven days, missing part of Miami's bye and the first two practices this week. He should be able to play Sunday, but it's possible his workload is scaled back, especially if Malcolm Brown (quad) suits up after being designated to return from IR earlier this week. The Dolphins also have Duke Johnson as a backfield option, while Phillip Lindsay appears likely to miss Sunday's game on the COVID list.

Gaskin (illness) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday and is available to practice, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Gaskin landed on the COVID-19 last after testing positive for the virus during Miami's bye week, and he'll return to the active roster without missing any game action. Salvon Ahmed also cleared the protocols, so the Dolphins should have most of their backfield available this weekend against the Jets.

Gaskin carried the ball 15 times for 44 yards in Sunday's 20-9 win over the Giants. He added two receptions for five yards.

Gaskin continued to see plenty of volume, as he reached 15 total touches for the seventh consecutive game. However, he was unable to find the end zone, so his inefficiency finally caught up to him. Gaskin has averaged under four yards per carry in each of his last six contests, though four touchdowns in that span masked his otherwise poor performances. Despite the inefficiency, so long as Malcolm Brown (quadriceps) is unable to return to the field, Gaskin should be continue to serve as the clear lead back in the Dolphins offense thus have the chance to rack up production on volume alone.

Gaskin rushed 16 times for 49 yards and two touchdowns and brought in both targets for three yards in the Dolphins' 33-10 win over the Panthers on Sunday.

Gaskin saw new arrival Phillip Lindsay log 12 carries of his own, but it was the former who got two rushing opportunities from inside the five-yard line that he parlayed into a pair of three-yard touchdown runs. Gaskin had scored on the ground only once all season prior to Sunday, and the two visits to the end zone helped prop up what would have otherwise been a very pedestrian fantasy performance. The workload split between Gaskin and Lindsay will be one to monitor moving forward, beginning with a Week 13 home matchup against the Giants.

Gaskin rushed 23 times for 89 yards while catching three of four targets for seven yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Jets.

Gaskin delivered a strong performance in a workhorse role against a generous Jets defense. He broke a 14-14 tie with a five-yard receiving touchdown in the fourth quarter, and the Dolphins never looked back from there. While his 26 touches were highly encouraging, Gaskin will face a much stiffer test in Week 12 against the Panthers.

Gaskin rushed 14 times for 31 yards and secured one of two targets for 14 yards in the Dolphins' 22-10 win over the Ravens on Thursday night.

Gaskin found running room next to impossible to come by for the second time in five days, as his 2.2 yards per rush Thursday was only a slight improvement on the 1.8 yards per tote he'd mustered against the Texans in a Week 9 win Sunday. Gaskin's issues are primarily the result of spotty run blocking, but irrespective of the source of the problem, the fact is his fantasy value is significantly capped at the moment. Gaskin's next opportunity to break out of what is now three straight sub-40-yard efforts on the ground comes against the Jets in a Week 11 road divisional battle a week from Sunday.

Gaskin rushed 20 times for 34 yards and a touchdown and secured all six targets for 23 yards in the Dolphins' 17-9 win over the Texans on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.

Sometimes a productive fantasy performance is achieved through sheer volume, and such as the case for Gaskin on Sunday. The third-year back surprisingly had trouble finding running room against what had been an increasingly porous Texans run defense, but he helped lock in a productive afternoon with a six-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and his second-highest catch total of the season. Gaskin next faces a tough Ravens run defense in a Thursday night home matchup.

Gaskin rushed 12 times for 36 yards and secured three of four targets for 19 yards in the Dolphins' 26-11 loss to the Bills on Sunday.

Gaskin paced the Dolphins' backfield in carries and rushing yardage, but his overall numbers left plenty to be desired. The third-year back does at least now have double-digit carries in consecutive games for the first time this season, and even though the prospect of running behind Miami's lackluster run-blocking offensive line caps his overall ceiling, Gaskin will at least have a chance at better production at home against the Texans in Week 9.

Gaskin rushed 15 times for 67 yards, secured all four targets for 10 yards and a touchdown and returned two kickoffs for 29 yards in the Dolphins' 30-28 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

Gaskin had logged single-digit carry totals for three straight games prior to Sunday, but he parlayed a season-high number of carries into a new high-water mark in rushing yardage. Gaskin also made his mark through the air while notching his third straight multi-catch tally and his third receiving touchdown of the campaign on a seven-yard scoring grab just before the halfway point of the fourth quarter. Whether Gaskin's rushing volume holds up in a Week 8 road battle against the Bills remains to be seen, however, considering Buffalo could well force Miami into a pass-heavy game script at some point during that road divisional clash.

Gaskin rushed the ball five times for nine yards in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Jaguars. He added two receptions for five yards.

Gaskin was the beneficiary of game script for a big Week 5 performance, but he couldn't carry that performance forward in Sunday's loss. He drew five of the team's 20 rushing attempts, two fewer tan Salvon Ahmed. Even in the limited volume he received, Gaskin did little as his longest rush went for only four yards and he averaged just 1.8 yards per carry. Through six games, Gaskin has topped five rushing attempts only twice and surpassed 50 rushing yards in a game on one occasion.

Gaskin rushed just twice for three yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game during a 27-17 loss to the Colts on Sunday.

The Dolphins largely abandoned the running game in the second half, but it was still disappointing to see Gaskin get such little opportunity and get outpaced in carries by not just backfield Malcolm Brown (eight carries), but quarterback Jacoby Brissett (three carries) as well. Gaskin had just logged a season-high 13 carries in Week 3 against the Raiders and had recorded no fewer than six targets in any of his first three contests, so perhaps Sunday's strange stat line will prove to be nothing more than a one-week outlier. Gaskin will look to substantiate that in a difficult Week 5 road matchup versus the Buccaneers.

Gaskin carried the ball 13 times for 65 yards and caught three of six targets for nine yards in Sunday's 31-29 overtime loss to the Raiders.

The carries and rushing yards were both season highs for Gaskin, who was more heavily involved in the offense with Jacoby Brissett under center in place of Tua Tagovailoa (ribs). The running back was less effective as a receiver, however, as he and Brissett had trouble getting on the same page. With the backup QB at the helm once again, Gaskin should see another big workload in Week 4 as the Dolphins host the Colts.

Gaskin rushed five times for 25 yards and caught four of five targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 35-0 loss to the Bills.

Miami had to abandon the running game after falling behind early, and Gaskin worked in a three-man rotation with Malcolm Brown and Salvon Ahmed. All three running backs got either five or six carries, but none got much going as Miami struggled to move the ball with backup Jacoby Brissett under center following an early Tua Tagovailoa rib injury. The entire Miami offense will be tough to trust in Week 3 against the Raiders if Tagovailoa's absence lingers.

Gaskin carried the ball nine times for 49 yards in Sunday's Week 1 victory against the Patriots. He also added five receptions for 27 yards.

Gaskin led the Miami backfield with nine carries, though Malcolm Brown and Salvon Ahmed combined for eight carries. He was fairly efficient with those touches, recording gains of 15 yards and an additional carry of eight yards. Gaskin also produced well as a receiver, as he led the team with five receptions and successfully hauled in all of his targets. Though he may not see workhorse volume, Gaskin appears to be set for a significant role in Week 2 against Buffalo.

Gaskin rushed six times for 27 yards and a touchdown and secured all four targets for 44 yards and another score in the Dolphins' 37-17 preseason win over the Falcons on Saturday night.

Gaskin made a strong case for being deployed as a true lead back in a crowded backfield come the regular season with Saturday's versatile performance. The third-year back had a hand in both of Miami's first-half touchdowns, finding the end zone from a yard out on the ground in the first quarter before adding an eight-yard receiving score to cap off an 11-play drive early in the second quarter. Gaskin also saw his likely primary competitor for touches, offseason signee Malcolm Brown, turn in a solid 10-carry, 43-yard, one-touchdown tally, so it's likely the two players and Salvon Ahmed still see a fair share of work week to week, with Gaskin seemingly having a good opportunity to lead the pack by at least a modest degree.

Coach Brian Flores said the Dolphins will employ Gaskin, Malcolm Brown and Salvon Ahmed "situationally as best fits their skill set and what's best for the team," Barry Jackson and Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald report.

"Gaskin can play first, second, third down, but depending on the situation, we may put another player in there," Flores said. He then called Gaskin a "chance of place" player as compared to "a power back" in Brown. Flores simply said Ahmed "has good speed, coming out of the backfield." In last weekend's preseason loss to Chicago, it was Brown who go the start at running back, with Gaskin and Ahmed coming off the bench. In the regular season it seems almost assured that the Dolphins will deploy a three-man backfield committee, but the actual workload split will warrant close monitoring. Flores' comments still make it seem as though Gaskin will operate as the starter, but he may not be able to repeat the near every-down usage he saw in 2020 if Brown and Ahmed indeed carve out regular weekly roles.

Gaskin came off the bench in Saturday's 20-13 preseason loss to Chicago, taking four carries for 19 yards and one catch for three yards.

Gaskin's performance wasn't an issue, but fantasy managers might be nervous to see free-agent addition Malcom Brown getting the start at RB as well as the first four carries. Brown finished with eight carries for only nine yards and was even stuffed on a 3rd-and-goal from the 1-yard line, but while his stat line may be ugly, the usage/role was promising. It was the other way around for Gaskin, who seemed on track for the lead role in Miami's backfield after his quasi-breakout in 2020. The snap division in Saturday's game suggests that's no sure thing, with Gaskin playing well into the second quarter and sharing shaps with Salvon Ahmed for the second-string offense after Brown and starting QB Tua Tagovailoa were done for the afternoon. Miami's backfield will be closely watched in the second week of the preseason, facing Atlanta on Sat., Aug. 21.

Gaskin remains atop Miami's backfield depth chart after the team waited until the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft to bring in competition, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.

The Dolphins were widely considered one of the likeliest teams to invest high draft capital into a running back this year, but the team's decision to only add Gerrid Doaks with their final pick is a clear indication of confidence in Gaskin. A 2019 seventh-round pick himself, Gaskin played a near every-down role in the 10 games he was healthy last season, averaging a respectable 4.1 yards per carry despite playing behind one of the league's worst O-lines. Dynasty managers who bet on Gaskin this offseason should feel justified in patting themselves on the back, as the 24-year-old appears positioned to begin the 2021 campaign as the top option in a three-man committee, accompanied by Salvon Ahmed and veteran Malcolm Brown.

Gaskin rushed seven times for 20 yards and a touchdown while catching four of five targets for 57 yards in Sunday's 56-26 loss to Buffalo.

Gaskin failed to find much running room but came through for fantasy managers relying on him in the season finale with a one-yard touchdown plunge to cap the first drive of the second half. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old running back, his team needed a win to guarantee a playoff spot and now looks likely to come up just short of making the postseason. Gaskin established himself as Miami's lead back when healthy with 142 carries for 584 yards and three touchdowns, plus 42 catches for 388 yards and two touchdowns, in 10 games played. The 2019 seventh-round pick will likely start next season as the top option in Miami's backfield barring an offseason shakeup.

Gaskin had 14 carries for 87 yards during Saturday night's 26-25 win over the Raiders. He also secured all five of his targets for 82 yards and two touchdowns.

Gaskin entered Saturday's road tilt against the Raiders coming off a two-game absence due to COVID-19, but he immediately returned to his usual workhorse role, exploding for a career-high 169 yards from scrimmage. The second-year pro looked like Miami's most effective offensive weapon with DeVante Parker (hamstring) sidelined, accounting for both of the team's touchdowns on the day, most notably a 59-yard sideline catch-and-run late in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Salvon Ahmed accounted for just two yards on six carries. Gaskin is locked into a bellcow role heading into a must-win road matchup against the Bills in Week 17.

Gaskin figures to slot back into the No. 1 role in Miami's backfield during Saturday's road game against the Raiders. More information regarding who will take the bulk of the carries moving forward likely depends on the status of both Ahmed and Breida -- information that won't be available until later next week.

Gaskin's day could have been even bigger had he been able to convert at least one of the multiple red-zone carries he received throughout the contest, but he'll nevertheless head into a Week 14 showdown against the Chiefs with another strong effort under his belt.

With such a void to fill in the backfield, Miami dealt for DeAndre Washington before Tuesday's deadline. Gaskin rushed 18 times for 47 yards and a touchdown and brought in three of six targets for 16 yards in the Dolphins' 28-17 win over the Rams on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.

Gaskin struggled for running room against the Rams' typically accommodating run defense, but he helped fantasy managers with his one-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter. That score atoned for a lost fumble earlier in the period, the first of Gaskin's career. The 2019 seventh-round pick has now logged double-digit carries in five straight games, leaving no doubt as to his lead-back status in Miami's backfield. He'll look put together another productive performance versus the Cardinals in Week 9.

Gaskin carried the ball 18 times for 91 yards and caught all four of his targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 24-0 win over the Jets.

Both the 91 rushing yards and 126 scrimmage yards were career highs for the second-year back, as Miami spent much of the second half burning clock after taking a 21-0 lead into halftime. Gaskin has a firm hold on the No. 1 job in the Dolphins' backfield, and his role is unlikely to change following the team's Week 7 bye.

Gaskin carried 16 times for 57 yards and a touchdown while adding 34 yards on five catches (five targets) during Sunday's 43-17 win over the 49ers.

Gaskin struggled to the tune of 3.6 yards per carry but still managed to come through with his second-highest totals of the season in carries and rushing yards. He scored a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter and rounded out his performance with five receptions for the third time in the last four games. Gaskin's yardage totals aren't elite, but he's received 61 touches over the last three games and could get a few more chances in the red zone moving forward for a surprisingly productive Dolphins offense. Gaskin will look to build on this effort next Sunday against the Broncos.

Gaskin could be set for a larger role, particularly in the red zone, with backfield mate Jordan Howard (coach's decision) inactive for Sunday's Week 5 tilt against the 49ers.

Gaskin has already logged 14 red-zone rushes through four games, but he may be set for an even larger role than usual with Howard out, if the Dolphins offense manage to put him in position frequently enough against a tough 49ers defense that is. Gaskin is averaging 12.0 rushes per contest and 4.0 yards per carry thus far, but he'll be challenged against a San Francisco defense tied with the Seahawks for least fantasy points per game allowed in standard formats (10.0) to running backs.

Gaskin rushed 10 times for 40 yards and brought in three of four targets for 22 yards in the Dolphins' 31-23 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.

Gaskin once again served as the unquestioned lead back after logging a career-high 22 carries in Week 3 win against the Jaguars, but game script helped cap his overall workload. However, all signs point to the second-year back being the odds-on favorite for pacing the backfield in carries for the time being, and he's the only one of the trio of himself, Matt Breida and Jordan Howard to post double-digit carries thus far this season. Gaskin will look to see more opportunities on the ground in a Week 5 road matchup against the 49ers.

Gaskin rushed 22 times for 66 yards and brought in all five targets for 29 yards in the Dolphins' 31-13 win over the Jaguars on Thursday.

Through the Dolphins' first two games, the backfield wealth was essentially spread amongst Gaskin, Matt Breida and Jordan Howard, with no clear-cut lead back. That clearly changed for at least one game Thursday, as Gaskin outpaced his aforementioned teammates by 19 carries each and also co-led the team in both receptions and targets. The second-year back wasn't anywhere near as efficient on the ground as during the first two games of the season, when he averaged 5.4 yards on his 16 rushes. However, the boost in volume on the ground was certainly a welcome sight for Gaskin's fantasy managers, who now have reason to hope the Washington product could be headed for a true workhorse role moving forward that also includes a solid pass-catching component. Gaskin will look to make good on that potential in a Week 4 home date against the Seahawks on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Gaskin rushed seven times for 46 yards and brought in six of seven targets for 36 yards in the Dolphins' 31-28 loss to the Bills on Sunday.

The Dolphins' backfield touches were once again spread fairly evenly among Gaskin, Matt Breida and Jordan Howard, but it was Gaskin who had the clear overall lead in total touches. That was thanks to the second-year back's expanded receiving role, which saw him check in third in receptions and fourth in targets on the day. Breida is also a capable pass catcher, so he could certainly see an expanded role in that capacity in future weeks as well, but Gaskin has encouragingly been a focal point over the first pair of games by garnering double-digit touches in each contest. The University of Washington product will look to boost up his production yet again in a Week 3 road matchup against the Jaguars on Thursday night.

The Dolphins intend to utilize all of Gaskin, Jordan Howard and Matt Breida out of the backfield going forward, Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Though Jordan Howard started Sunday's season-opening loss to the Patriots, Gaskin served as Miami's clear lead back during the contest. The second-year pro led Miami's backfield in terms of carries, targets and yards, though Howard did score the team's only touchdown. Matt Breida matched Gaskins' 4.4 yards per carry, but on four less attempts. It looks as though the Dolphins' backfield split could change on a weekly basis depending on who stands out in practice, a scenario which would cause headaches for fantasy managers, but Gaskin could solidify his lead with another strong showing in Week 2 against the Bills.

Gaskin rushed nine times for 40 yards and caught all four of his targets for 26 more in Sunday's 21-11 loss to New England.

Gaskin surprisingly led Miami in both carries and yards on the ground, with Jordan Howard rushing eight times for seven yards and Matt Breida rushing five times for 22 yards. The 2019 seventh-rounder also tied for the team lead in catches. Howard's struggles have opened the door for Gaskin to take over as the team's lead back, and Gaskin will have a chance to solidify that role in Week 2 against the Bills.

Gaskin (ankle) will compete with Patrick Laird and Kalen Ballage for the No. 3 running back job in training camp, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.

Gaskin and Laird both saw increased usage down the stretch of the 2019 season as rookies, with Ballage having flamed out in the form of averaging just 1.8 yards on 74 carries last season. Prior to suffering an ankle injury Week 16, Gaskin at least proved superior efficiency to Ballage with 36 carries for 133 yards and one touchdown, in addition to hauling in seven of 12 targets for 51 yards. Provided he doesn't suffer any setbacks recovering from the ankle issue, the 2019 seventh-round pick could offer Laird legitimate competition for reserve duties.

The Dolphins placed Gaskin (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday.

Look for Patrick Laird to lead the Dolphins' backfield in the season finale, with De'Lance Turner and Samaje Perine handling any backfield snaps that remain.

Gaskin's status is murky for Sunday's game at New England due to a left ankle injury, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.

Despite departing with 3:59 remaining in the fourth quarter this past Sunday against the Bengals, Gaskin received the most touches (17) among Dolphins running backs in a game that went to overtime. If he indeed sits out the regular-season finale, Miami's backfield will be whittled down to Patrick Laird, De'Lance Turner and potentially a player currently not under contract.

Gaskin rushed 16 times for 55 yards and a touchdown and secured one of three targets for three yards in the Dolphins' 38-35 overtime win against the Bengals on Sunday before exiting the game for good with 3:59 remaining in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.

Before his premature exit, Gaskin had notched his first career rushing score early in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run. Gaskin also established new high-water marks in carries and rushing yards in the contest, but his status for the Week 17 finale against the Patriots is now firmly in question.

Gaskin (ankle) is out for the remainder of the game against the Bengals, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.

Gaskin was carted off the field after suffering a left ankle injury. That should mean more reps for De'Lance Turner in the closing minutes of the contest.
