Officially on IR
The Chargers placed Harris (Achilles) on IR on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Coach John Harbaugh confirmed Monday that Harris suffered a torn Achilles during this past Sunday's win over the Broncos and the running back will miss the remainder of the season, as a result. In his absence going forward, Omarion Hampton is in line to lead the Chargers backfield, with Hassan Haskins in reserve and Kimani Vidal as well as Amar Johnson representing possible additions via the team's practice squad.

Team confirms Achilles tear
Chargers head coach John Harbaugh said Monday that imaging has confirmed Harris suffered a torn Achilles during Sunday's win over the Broncos, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris will need to undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the season due to the severity of the injury he suffered Week 3 against Denver. The 27-year-old running back inked a one-year contract with Los Angeles for the 2025 campaign, positioning him to hit free agency next offseason. With Harris done for the year, rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton becomes clearly entrenched as the No. 1 backfield option for a high-scoring Chargers' offense, and 2024 sixth-rounder Kimani Vidal becomes a likely candidate to be brought off the practice squad as additional depth alongside return-game specialist Hassan Haskins.

Season-ending injury feared
Harris (Achilles) is expected to miss the rest of the season due to an injury sustained during Sunday's win over the Broncos, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris suffered a non-contact Achilles injury Week 3, and coach John Harbaugh said after the win over Denver that the veteran running back would undergo imaging. The team hasn't yet confirmed the severity of Harris' injury, but Rapoport reports that he's suffered a torn Achilles. With Harris sidelined, rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton inherits an unblocked path to workhorse touches in the Chargers' backfield. while Hassan Haskins projects to step into the No. 2 role.

Team confirms Achilles injury
Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed Harris suffered an Achilles injury in Sunday's win over the Broncos, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It was clear to the eye that Harris suffered a non-contact Achilles injury, but the team initially labeled it as an ankle issue. Harbaugh added that Harris is undergoing imaging following the win. There's not a lot of optimism that Harris avoided a serious injury, as it looked like a season-ender for the running back. Further tests will reveal the extent of the issue, but Omarion Hampton looks set to pace the Los Angeles backfield moving forward, with Hassan Haskins bumping up the depth chart to RB2. Hampton piled up 129 total yards and one touchdown on 25 touches against Denver and will be a locked-in RB1/2 for fantasy moving forward.

Hurts ankle Sunday
Harris was carted off the field during Sunday's game against the Broncos, per Daniel Popper of The Athletic, after sustaining an ankle injury.
ANALYSIS
Prior to that, Harris carried six times for 28 yards. In his absence, Omarion Hampton and Hassan Haskins are available to handle the Chargers' Week 3 backfield duties.
Sep 16, 2025
Big jump in usage in Week 2
Harris carried eight times for 28 yards and added two receptions for 20 yards on two targets in Monday's 20-9 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
After getting in limited practice reps throughout training camp and the preseason while recovering from a superficial eye injury, Harris took on a light role in the Chargers' Week 1 win over the Chiefs, playing just 18 percent of the offensive snaps and logging two touches (one carry, one catch). However, with the longer turnaround for the Week 2 matchup allowing Harris to get further ramped up, the veteran continued to handle a reserve role but ended up poaching more work from rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton in Monday's victory. While Hampton continued to pace the Chargers backfield in playing time by taking the field for 36 of 58 offensive snaps (62 percent share), he mustered just 24 yards on eight carries and had one catch for one yard. Harris wasn't much more efficient with his opportunities on the ground, but he still nearly doubled up his snap share from the season opener, taking the field for 20 plays (34 percent). Hampton will likely get another chance to lead the backfield during Sunday's ga

Used sparingly Week 1
Harris rushed once for five yards and secured his only target for another five yards during Friday's 27-21 victory over Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Jim Harbaugh said in advance of Friday's opener that Harris would play but that Omarion Hampton would draw the start, and the rookie ultimately handled a workhorse role. Hampton totaled 17 touches against the Chiefs' firm defensive front, rushing 15 times for 48 yards and securing both of his targets for 13 yards. Harris' backfield role could grow as he puts further distance between himself and the superficial eye injury that forced him to sit out all of training camp and the preseason, but Hampton looks solidified as the starter in Los Angeles' backfield and projects to dominate touches again in Week 2 on the road against Las Vegas.

Cleared for Friday, but won't start
Harris (eye) doesn't have an injury designation for Friday's game against the Chiefs in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that Harris was on track to play in the season opener, and after the running back logged three consecutive full practices this week, Harbaugh's prediction has now come to pass. Per Smith, Harbaugh wasn't willing to go into specifics regarding how extensively Harris might be used Friday, though he told Rich Eisen of ESPN in a pre-broadcast meeting that rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton would draw the start over Harris, according to Alex Insdorf of BoltBeat.com. Harris is still expected to have a role in the Chargers' game plan, but the uncertainty of his snap and touch counts after he missed all of training camp and the preseason while recovering from a superficial eye injury make it difficult to depend on him as an option in Week 1 fantasy lineups.
Sep 3, 2025
Ready to play
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that he expects Harris (eye) will play this Friday against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Harris said Monday that he planned to play, with his full practice participation Tuesday then confirming he was on track. Harbaugh echoed that Wednesday, although he declined to answer reporters questions about the extent of Harris' Week 1 role. "Those are really hard to predict," Harbaugh said. "Play counts and things of that nature. Get in there, play football and have at it. That's kind of the mindset. Not kind of, that is the mindset."
Sep 2, 2025
Turns in full practice
Harris (eye) was listed as a full practice participant Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
After suffering what was labeled as a superficial eye injury in a fireworks accident on the Fourth of July, Harris took part in minimal drills and didn't play in any games during the preseason, but he's ramped up his on-field work over the past several days. The veteran running back was recently cleared to take full contact, and after logging every rep during the Chargers' first official practice session of the regular season, he's now on track to suit up in Friday's opener against the Chiefs in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Despite being in the clear to play Week 1, Harris could be in line for a limited role, given the extensive time he missed this summer in addition to the presence of first-round pick Omarion Hampton in the backfield. The weekly breakdown of snaps and touches between Hampton and Harris may not become clear until after a few games, when Harris will be further removed from the eye injury and better conditioned.

Expects to play Friday
Harris (eye) expects to play in Friday's regular-season opener against the Chiefs, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
On that topic, Harris noted Monday, "I'm ramping up to it." While the running back didn't go into any details about his fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July, he said that his vision has not been affected, while describing his eye injury as "superficial." The Chargers' upcoming first official practice report will add further context to Harris' Week 1 status, but it looks like he's trending toward seeing action versus Kansas City, though in that scenario it's unclear what sort of volume he might see in tandem with rookie first-rounder Omarion Hampton.
Sep 1, 2025
Cleared for contact
Harris (eye) has been cleared for contact, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, there is a possibility that Harris could play Friday against the Chiefs, according to coach Jim Harbaugh. The running back sustained an eye injury during a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July, but it appears as though he is approaching a return to action. Added context with regard to Harris' Week 1 status will arrive no later than the posting of the Chargers' first official practice/injury report ahead of Friday's contest. Once available, Harris will pair with 2025 first-rounder Omarion Hampton to pace a Chargers backfield that also includes Hassan Haskins.

Avoids reserve/NFI list
The Chargers didn't move Harris (eye) to the reserve/non-football injury list Tuesday, meaning he'll open the upcoming season on the active roster, Eric Smith of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris missed the entirety of training camp and the preseason due to an eye injury that he suffered due to a fireworks accident during a Fourth of July event. While he resided on the active/non-football injury list during that time, he was able to work with team trainers on the side as of Aug. 12 before GM John Hortiz said during the Chargers' final exhibition that Harris was "on track, and I think he should be able to go, hopefully Week 1," per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com. Harris isn't a guarantee to be available Friday, Sept. 5 against the Chiefs in Sao Paolo, Brazil, but he at least will be eligible to practice ahead of that contest. For as long as Harris remains sidelined, rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton will lead L.A.'s backfield, with Hassan Haskins backing him up.
Aug 26, 2025
On track for active roster
The Chargers plan to move Harris (eye) to the active roster from the non-football injury list, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
As Kris Rhim of ESPN.com notes, the looming move suggests that the Chargers don't expect Harris to miss four games to start the season, but at this stage it's not a lock that he'll be available in Week 1. Harris, who sustained an eye injury as the result of a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July, has been on the active/non-football injury list since July 17.
Aug 24, 2025
Has chance to play Week 1
GM Joe Hortiz said during Saturday's preseason game at San Francisco that Harris is "doing great, going through all the medical processes," but the running back is "on track, and I think he should be able to go, hopefully Week 1," Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
These comments from Hortiz are a sharp departure from those via coach Jim Harbaugh, who told Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site on Thursday that when Harris is "ready to play, he'll be ready to play." Harris has been on the active/non-football injury list since the start of training camp after suffering an apparent eye injury during a fireworks accident at a Fourth of July event. How the team proceeds on cut-down day this Tuesday may be telling for his availability for the season opener on Friday, Sept. 5 against the Chiefs in Sao Paulo, Brazil. If he's activated from active/NFI, Harris will have a chance to join rookie Omarion Hampton in L.A.'s Week 1 backfield. If he's moved to the reserve/non-football injury list, however, Harris will be required to miss at least the first four games of the campaign.
Aug 22, 2025
Doing more, but still no practice
Harris (eye) has ramped up his workload of late, with Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh recently saying that the running back feels better with each passing day, Eric Smith of chargers.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris remains on the non-football injury list, limited to individual/rehab work and still not ready to practice with teammates. That's an obvious concern for his Week 1 availability with the start of the season less than three weeks away, but it does at least seem like the Chargers expect him to contribute at some point this season. Harris suffered a fireworks accident earlier this summer, keeping him out for all of training camp and leaving rookie Omarion Hampton without serious competition for first-team work this summer. Harris will be ineligible for Weeks 1-4 if the Chargers don't activate him from the NFI list by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
Aug 12, 2025
Participates in drills
Harris (eye) participated in drills with a football for the first time during training camp Tuesday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris was able to do some drills off to the side of practice with an athletic trainer, his first action since suffering a "superficial eye injury" in early July. The running back is expected to be ready for the regular season according to his agent, Doug Hendrickson. The exact nature of Harris' injury hasn't been disclosed, but his return to action at practice is a step in the right direction. The Chargers will open their regular season Sept. 5 in Brazil against the Chiefs.
Aug 8, 2025
Week 1 status TBD
Coach Jim Harbaugh was noncommittal Friday about Harris' (eye) status for Week 1, Kris Rhim of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
When asked Friday if there's a chance that the running back isn't ready for the Chargers' regular season opener against the Chiefs, Harbaugh said, "there's a chance he is." Harris, whose eye was injured in a July fourth fireworks mishap, remains on the active/non-football injury list ahead of Sunday's preseason contest against the Saints. In any case, it remains to be seen when Harris will resume practicing, but Rhim notes that the 2021 first-rounder began walking laps at practice last Saturday and has continued to do that daily since then, while wearing a helmet with a visor and cleats.
Aug 2, 2025
Makes limited progress
Harris (eye) was in a helmet and a weighted vest while walking around the practice field Saturday,Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris has only been spotted on the field in shorts and a t-shirt prior to Saturday as he recovers from an eye injury. His unconventional participation Saturday doesn't signal that he's particularly close to a return from the active/non-football injury list, but it still marks progress in his recovery.
Jul 29, 2025
No timetable for practice return
As Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Lions approaches, coach Jim Harbaugh acknowledged that there is still no timetable for the return of Harris (eye) to practice, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris, who sustained an eye injury as the result of a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July, has been on the active/non-football injury list since July 17, though the running back has been spotted on the field during practice sporting shorts and a t-shirt. Until he's ready to return to drills, however, 2025 first-rounder Omarion Hampton should continue to see added first-team reps. Once Harris is available though, he'll be able to make his case to claim a key backfield role this coming season alongside his highly-touted rookie counterpart.
Jul 17, 2025
Officially placed on NFI list
Harris was placed on the active/non-football injury list by the Chargers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Per Kris Rhim of ESPN, Harris, who sustained an eye injury as the result of a fireworks mishap July fourth, isn't expected to remain on the list long, according to Chargers GM Joe Hortiz. Once the running back is ready to return to the field, he'll be able to resume practicing, but until then 2025 first-rounder Omarion Hampton figures to see added first-team reps, with Hassan Haskins, Kimani Vidal, Jaret Patterson and Raheim Sanders also currently in the team's backfield mix.
Jul 16, 2025
Bound for active/NFI list
GM Joe Hortiz said Wednesday that Harris likely will begin training camp on the active/non-football injury list as doctors continue to monitor the eye injury that he suffered during a fireworks incident at a Fourth of July event, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris remains in the Bay Area as of Wednesday afternoon but is expected to report to The Bolt in El Segundo, Calif. later in the day. Hortiz noted the Chargers have yet to ascertain the extent of Harris' injury, but his agent has called it a "superficial" one, per Thuc Nhi Nguyen of the Los Angeles Times. Once Harris joins his teammates, L.A. is expected to make the aforementioned transaction, but he'll be able to practice as soon as he passes a physical. How Harris and rookie first-round pick Omarion Hampton fare in training camp and the preseason should determine the breakdown of RB touches between the duo at the start of the regular season.
Jul 15, 2025
Should practice soon
Harris (eye) isn't expected to miss much time at the start of training camp, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Rapoport says Harris should be ready "sooner rather than later" and "isn't expected to miss games" after suffering an eye injury during a fireworks incident at a 4th of July event. Harris' agent Doug Hendrickson said last week that the injury is "superficial" and won't prevent the running back from being ready for the start of the season. Assuming the reports are accurate and his vision isn't impacted, Harris likely will open the season sharing snaps/touches with 22nd overall draft pick Omarion Hampton. The nature of that split is anyone's guess, with Harris profiling as a jack-of-all-trades while Hampton is likely the more explosive pure runner.
Jul 10, 2025
Sustains superficial eye injury
A statement from Harris' agent Doug Hendrickson on Thursday noted that the running back sustained a superficial eye injury stemming from what was described as a "fireworks mishap" during a 4th of July event, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the statement, Harris, who signed with the Chargers in March, "is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season." It remains to be seen if the issue will affect Harris' participation in the team's upcoming training camp practices, but when available, the 2021 first-rounder is slated to handle a key role in a Los Angeles backfield that also includes Omarion Hampton, the No. 22 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Apr 25, 2025
Facing competition from Hampton
Harris has new backfield competition after the Chargers drafted Omarion Hampton at No. 22 overall Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
At 6-foot, 221 pounds, Hampton is smaller than Harris but larger than most NFL lead backs, and with 4.46 combine speed to boot. It may not be long before he challenges Harris for the starting job, although the veteran almost certainly would retain a role in that scenario, if only for pass blocking and to help keep Hampton fresh. Harris signed a one-year, $5.25 million contract in March, with all of that money guaranteed and another $4 million available via incentives. Compared to other RBs, that can either be viewed as low-end-starter money or the top of the market for backups.

Finds new home with Chargers
The Chargers are slated to sign Harris to a one-year contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
It's worth up to $9.25 million. With J.K. Dobbins' contract expired and Gus Edwards recently released, the Chargers were in dire need of a running back. They've found one in Harris, who Chargers OC Greg Roman knows well from their time together in the AFC North. Since being selected with the 24th overall pick in the 2021 Draft, Harris has started all 68 regular-season games, a rarity for running backs in this day and age. While Harris lacks big-play ability and efficiency and doesn't do much in the pass game, he makes up for it with toughness and availability. Harris averaged a subpar 3.9 yards per carry on 1,097 rushing attempts in four seasons with the Steelers and rushed for over 1,000 yards on each occasion. Look for Harris to be coach Jim Harbaugh's new lead back in Los Angeles.
Jan 11, 2025
Picks up 58 yards in playoff loss
Harris rushed the ball six times for 17 yards in Saturday's 28-14 loss to the Ravens. He added three receptions on three targets for 41 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris led the Pittsburgh backfield in every statistic, though it's difficult to have many takeaways from this game as the Steelers were down multiple scores for over half of the game. In part due to game script, he was unable to get going on the ground, but he showed some ability as a pass catcher -- highlighted by a 21-yard catch and run late in the third quarter. Harris is now set to enter free agency for the first time in his career, and his market will be intriguing to watch. He has lacked explosive playmaking ability for most of his career, though he's topped 250 carries in each of his four pro seasons and has proven the ability to lead a backfield.
Jan 5, 2025
Totals 16 touches in loss
Harris rushed the ball 12 times for 36 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 19-17 loss to the Bengals. He added four catches on five targets for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris has seen his role diminish in recent weeks, though he operated as Pittsburgh's clear lead back Saturday. His stat line wasn't particularly strong, though he did manage long runs of 11 and 10 yards on a drive early in the second quarter, which he later capped with a one-yard touchdown. Harris was forced to the sideline for part of the fourth quarter while being checked for a concussion, but he was able to return and should be ready to suit up for a postseason matchup against either the Ravens or Texans. He concludes the regular season with 1,043 rushing yards, his highest yardage total on the ground since 2021.
Jan 4, 2025
Returns Saturday night
Harris (head) returned to Saturday night's game against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Harris briefly left to be checked for a concussion, first going to the blue medical tent before then going to the locker room. Harris apparently was able to pass all the tests, gaining clearance to return late in the fourth quarter.
Jan 4, 2025
Being evaluated for concussion
Harris exited Saturday night's game against the Bengals with a head injury and is being evaluated for a concussion, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris exited midway through the fourth quarter and went to the blue medical tent on the sideline to be checked for a concussion. He later had his helmet removed and was taken to the locker room for further evaluation. Prior to leaving, Harris rushed 12 times for 36 yards and one touchdown. He added three catches for 22 yards on four targets. Jaylen Warren has taken over lead-back duties with Harris in the locker room.
Dec 25, 2024
Leading rusher in Christmas loss
Harris carried the ball 13 times for 74 yards in Wednesday's 29-10 loss to Kansas City. He caught two of four targets for seven yards.
ANALYSIS
Jaylen Warren led the Pittsburgh backfield with 112 scrimmage yards and also had a first-quarter TD run wiped out by a holding penalty, but it was Harris who led the team in rushing. It was Harris' best performance on the ground since Week 13 against the Bengals, and it put him over 1,000 rushing yards on the season -- the fourth straight campaign he's reached that milestone. Harris will look to finish the regular season in style in a Week 18 rematch with Cincinnati.
Dec 21, 2024
Role decreases against Ravens
Harris rushed the ball nine times for 42 yards in Sunday's 34-17 loss to the Ravens. He did not record a catch on one target.
ANALYSIS
Harris took a surprising secondary role to Jaylen Warren in the contest, as he had nine touches compared to Warren's 17. It's unclear whether that was due to his recent ineffectiveness -- he's averaged only 3.2 yards per carry since Week 10 -- or because of a miscue in Pittsburgh's Week 15 loss to the Eagles. Regardless of the explanation, Harris has 16 total touches in his last two games, making it difficult to trust his role in a Week 17 showdown with the Chiefs.
Dec 15, 2024
Miserable showing against Eagles
Harris rushed the ball six times for 14 yards in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Eagles. He added one reception on one target for seven yards.
ANALYSIS
There was limited volume for all skill-position players in the Pittsburgh offense, as the team ran only 41 total offensive plays. Even taking that into account, Harris had a miserable showing as he averaged just 2.3 yards per attempt while also losing a pitch late in the third quarter with the Steelers threatening to score. While Russell Wilson was technically charged with the fumble, Harris did not get a touch for the rest of the game. It's unlikely that usage carries over into a pivotal Week 16 matchup against Baltimore, though Harris has topped 65 rushing yards only once in his last six contests making him an unreliable fantasy option even with a regular amount of touches.
Dec 8, 2024
Touchdown saves day
Harris rushed the ball 16 times for 53 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-14 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers had a mediocre day offensively, with nearly all of their skill-position players posting modest stat lines. Harris was no exception, as he managed only 3.3 yards per carry despite tallying a 20-yard gain for the second consecutive game. Even with the inefficiency, Harris still managed a decent fantasy performance thanks to a one-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. Since Russell Wilson has taken over under center, Harris has four trips to the end zone in seven contests, though he's failed to reach 80 yards on the ground in five straight matchups.
Dec 1, 2024
Totals 129 yards from scrimmage
Harris rushed the ball 16 times for 75 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 44-38 win over the Bengals. He added six receptions on six targets for 54 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris was effective as both a rusher and receiver, and his day began with the latter as he accounted for 45 receiving yards in Pittsburgh's first two offensive possessions. He then got things going on the ground, highlighted by a 10-yard trip to the end zone midway through the second quarter and a long 20-yard gain late in the third quarter to help set up a score. Harris had struggled with efficiency heading into Sunday's game and topped 100 yards from scrimmage for the first time since Week 8.
Nov 22, 2024
Tough sledding on 18 touches
Harris rushed 16 times for 41 yards and brought in both targets for 13 yards in the Steelers' 24-19 loss to the Browns on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The Browns' defense came into the night with some extreme home/road splits against the run, and Cleveland's typically stout work against opposing ground attacks at Huntington Bank Field continued to Harris' detriment Thursday. The fourth-year pro was constantly stymied at or near the line of scrimmage, with his longest run going for a modest 11 yards. Harris' yardage total was his lowest since Week 4, but he should have a good opportunity to bounce back in a Week 13 road matchup against a more giving Bengals defense on Sunday, Dec. 1.
Nov 17, 2024
Falls short of 100 yards Sunday
Harris carried the ball 18 times for 63 yards and caught four of five targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 18-16 win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
The running back had his second straight quiet performance on the ground, but Harris made up for it somewhat by catching more than three passes for the first time since Week 3. The Steelers have a slate of potentially tough run defenses down the stretch, so Harris' three straight 100-yard efforts prior to Pittsburgh's Week 9 bye might end up being his high-water mark for the season. On the other hand, he'll be facing a Browns defense in Week 12 that just got steamrolled by Taysom Hill for 138 yards and three TDs.
Nov 15, 2024
Clear for Week 11
Harris (ankle) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game against the Ravens, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, fellow running back Jaylen Warren is listed as questionable after logging no practice reps Thursday and returning to the field as limited Friday. If Warren is inhibited or even inactive Sunday, Harris would be Pittsburgh's unquestioned top backfield option versus a Baltimore defense that has stymied opposing RBs to the tune of 3.23 yards per carry (2nd) this season.
Nov 14, 2024
Turns in full practice
Harris (ankle) was a full practice participant Thursday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris was held out of Wednesday's practice due to the ankle issue, but his return to the field a day later as a full participant suggests his absence was likely just maintenance-related. Meanwhile, Jaylen Warren (back) sat out Thursday's session, making his health the bigger question mark of Pittsburgh's top two running backs heading into Sunday's game against the Ravens. Warren has pushed for a bigger role behind Harris in recent weeks with double-digit touches in each of the last three games, but if Warren were to miss Sunday's contest, Harris could be in prime position to handle one of his largest workloads of the season in terms of both snaps and touches.
Nov 14, 2024
Back at practice
Harris (ankle) returned to practice Thursday, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris didn't practice Wednesday, but head coach Mike Tomlin downplayed the running back's absence, a notion supported by Harris' presence at Thursday's session. Per Saunders, Harris looked "just fine running the ball" during practice, though it won't be known if he was a full or limited practice participant until after the session concludes.
Nov 13, 2024
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Harris (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Harris missed Wednesday's session, head coach Mike Tomlin downplayed the running back's absence, indicating that Harris is among the players he anticipates including in the team's "planning at the latter part of the week," with an eye toward readying him to be ready for Sunday's game against the Ravens. However, Harris will presumably need to practice fully by Friday in order to head into the weekend without a Week 11 injury designation.
Nov 12, 2024
Nursing ankle issue, should play
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Harris could be limited in practice this week due to an ankle injury, but the running back is expected to play Sunday against the Ravens, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris is banged up coming out of a 28-27 win over the Commanders this past Sunday, when he matched his season high with 21 carries and gained 53 yards while scoring a touchdown. The Steelers are seemingly planning on taking it easy with Harris coming off the big workload, but assuming he puts in a full practice by Friday, he'll likely approach the matchup with Baltimore without an injury designation.
Nov 10, 2024
Punches in third touchdown
Harris rushed the ball 21 times for 53 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 28-27 win over the Commanders. He was not targeted.
ANALYSIS
Harris entered Sunday in the midst of one of the most productive stretches of his career by topping 100 yards in three consecutive games. He didn't continue that streak and was inefficient overall, but there were still some positive takeaways from his performance in Week 10. He led the Steelers' backfield, recording 21 touches as compared to 16 for Jaylen Warren. Harris also scored his third touchdown in his last four games with a one-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter. It's also worth noting that Harris briefly left the game in the fourth quarter with an apparent ankle injury, though he did return on Pittsburgh's game-winning drive.
Oct 28, 2024
Stays hot on MNF
Harris carried the ball 19 times for 114 yards while catching three of four targets for 17 yards in Monday's 26-18 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Harris shined in the national spotlight for the second consecutive week after churning out another 100-plus yard rushing performance against a New York squad. The addition of quarterback Russell Wilson has helped add the threat of the deep ball to Pittsburgh's offense, lightening opposing defensive boxes for the 6-foot-1, 242-pound Harris. The bruising back took full advantage of that against the Giants, and may continue to do so in the second half of the fantasy season. For now, the Steelers enter a bye week, so fantasy managers will have to find a substitute for Harris in Week 9, before reactivating the back for a Week 10 matchup against Washington.

Cracks century mark on SNF
Harris rushed 21 times for 102 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 37-15 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Harris failed to bring in his only target in Sunday's lopsided victory, but that's where the bad news ends following the running back's second consecutive 100-yard rushing game. The 26-year-old also cashed in his second touchdown in as many weeks following a slow start to the campaign. Harris and the Steelers remain at home to host another New York team when the Giants come to town for Monday Night Football in Week 8.

Returns to full practice
Harris (ribs) was a full practice participant Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The immediate return to full participation suggests Harris' absence Wednesday was largely a matter of caution. He'll fill his usual lead role in Pittsburgh's backfield this Sunday against the Jets, with Jaylen Warren in reserve and Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle) still unable to practice.
Oct 17, 2024
Back at practice
Harris (ribs) was present for practice Thursday, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's session due to a rib issue, but his return to the field Thursday has him on track to be available Sunday night against the Jets. The Steelers' upcoming injury report will confirm whether or not Harris worked fully in his return to practice.
Oct 16, 2024
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Harris (ribs) didn't practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, Harris usually rests Wednesday, but the running back's absence this time around was attributed to a ribs issue. Thursday's practice is thus slated to provide added context with regard to Harris' status for Sunday's game against the Jets. Meanwhile, fellow RB Jaylen Warren is not listed on the Steelers' Week 7 injury report.
Oct 13, 2024
Best performance of season
Harris rushed the ball 14 times for 106 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 32-13 win over the Raiders. He added two receptions on two targets for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Amid some concern that he would lose work to Jaylen Warren, Harris instead turned in his best performance of the season by nearly any measure. He turned in more than 100 yards on the ground for the first time in the campaign, and he also did so efficiently with two rushes of more than 20 yards. To top things off, Harris also found the end zone for the first time this season with a 36-yard rush late in the third quarter. He's seen his opportunity limited to some extent in recent weeks, though he has at least 15 total touches in every game this season.
Oct 7, 2024
Gets 16 touches in Week 5 loss
Harris rushed 14 times for 42 yards and caught both of his targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Harris handled 16 touches while Aaron Shampklin and Jonathan Ward combined for six touches in a Pittsburgh backfield operating without Jaylen Warren (knee) and Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle). Warren and Patterson are both more fluid pass catchers than Harris, but Harris stepped up in that regard Sunday, leading Pittsburgh's unimpressive passing attack in receiving yards. The power back plodded to just 3.0 yards per carry but picked up a key fourth-and-1 with a one-yard run in the fourth quarter, extending a drive that ended with a go-ahead Pat Freiermuth touchdown catch. Harris should continue to get the majority of touches in Pittsburgh's backfield against the Raiders in Week 6, even if Warren and Patterson are ready to return.
Sep 29, 2024
Salvages day as pass catcher
Harris carried the ball 13 times for 19 yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Colts. He added three receptions on six targets for 54 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris led the Pittsburgh backfield, though it wasn't the volume projected with Jaylen Warren (knee) sidelined. Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle) was more effective before exiting the game and stole six carries, while Justin Fields also used his legs more. Even with the ball in his hands, Harris was largely stymied as his longest run went for just five yards. However, Harris did produce as a receiver, highlighted by a 32-yard catch and run early in the fourth quarter as the Steelers attempted to rally. Overall, his disappointing start to the season continued, as Harris has yet to top 100 yards from scrimmage or find the end zone through four games.
Sep 26, 2024
Ready for Week 4 contest
Harris, who was rested Wednesday, returned to a full practice Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris was spotted wearing a sling around his right arm/elbow in the Steelers' locker room Monday, but after getting a maintenance day Wednesday and then practicing fully Thursday, the running back evidently doesn't carry any injury concerns ahead of Sunday's game against the Colts. The same can't been said for Jaylen Warren (knee), who missed his second straight session, and thus looks iffy for Week 4 at this stage. If Warren is unavailable this weekend, Cordarrelle Patterson would be in line to pick up added complementary snaps behind Harris, with Jonathan Ward and Aaron Shampklin candidates to be elevated from Pittsburgh's practice squad.
Sep 25, 2024
Rested during Wednesday's practice
Harris (not injury-related/rest) didn't practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Harris was spotted wearing a sling around his right arm/elbow in the Steelers' locker room Monday, coach Mike Tomlin downplayed that Tuesday, indicating that the running back would be ready for Week 4 action, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. With the Steelers listing Harris' absence Wednesday due to rest, he still appears to be on track to suit up Sunday against the Colts. Meanwhile, Jaylen Warren (knee) also sat out the session, with his availability versus Indianapolis TBD.
Sep 24, 2024
Should be fine for Week 4
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Harris' apparent right arm injury isn't a concern, and the running back is expected to be available for Sunday's game against the Colts, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports. "Naj will be ready to rock and roll," Tomlin said.
ANALYSIS
Harris showed no obvious sign of being limited by an injury in Sunday's 20-10 win over the Chargers, as he took on a normal offensive snap share (58 percent) and handled heavy volume (18 carries, five targets). However, Harris' health suddenly came into question Monday, when he was spotted in the Pittsburgh locker room sporting a sling on his right arm. Based on Tomlin's comments, Harris might have been wearing the sling strictly as a precaution, and the coach didn't suggest that the running back's practice participation this week would be affected as a result. Assuming Harris is confirmed to be a full participant during Wednesday's session, he should be in the clear to handle another big workload in Indianapolis, especially with the availability of top backup Jaylen Warren (knee) looking much murkier.
Sep 23, 2024
Nursing arm injury after Week 3 win
Harris is wearing a sling around his right arm/elbow in the Steelers' locker room Monday, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris didn't substitute out due to an apparent injury during Sunday's 20-10 win over the Chargers, in which he rushed 18 times for 70 yards including Pittsburgh's final carry. He also caught all five of his targets for 16 yards, and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin didn't mention an injury to Harris in his postgame press conference. Further clarity on Harris' health may not arrive until Wednesday, when Pittsburgh's first official injury report of Week 4 is revealed. If healthy, Harris will stand to continue handling a workhorse role Sunday on the road against Indianapolis.
Sep 22, 2024
Twenty-three touches in Week 3 win
Harris rushed 18 times for 70 yards and caught all five of his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 20-10 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Harris' last carry was a 21-yard burst down to the 1-yard line, but Pittsburgh just kneeled down twice after that to run out the clock without giving Harris another opportunity to score his first touchdown of the season. He handled 23 touches compared to seven for Cordarrelle Patterson and four for Jaylen Warren. Harris has 55 carries through three games but is averaging just 3.8 yards per carry heading into Week 4 against the Colts.
Sep 15, 2024
Leads backfield again
Harris rushed the ball 17 times for 69 yards in Sunday's 13-6 win over the Broncos. He added one reception on two targets for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris dominated the workload out of the backfield in Week 1 and largely replicated that Sunday as he saw 18 total touches to Jaylen Warren's 11. The story for Harris was familiar in that he was effective in keeping the Steelers' offense on schedule but didn't turn in a strong fantasy performance. Notably, his longest gain of the day went for just 11 yards, and he now has a total of 139 rushing yards on 37 attempts through two games. Harris has also seen minimal involvement as a receiver with only three total targets.
Sep 8, 2024
Dominates workload
Harris rushed the ball 20 times for 70 yards in Sunday's 18-10 win over Atlanta. He added one reception on two targets for nine yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris surprisingly dominated opportunity out of the Pittsburgh backfield, accounting for 20 of 26 carries by the team's running backs. He wasn't very efficient but highlighted his day with a 20-yard rush early in the fourth quarter. Given Jaylen Warren's recent return from a hamstring injury, it's likely that we'll see his workload move closer to even with Harris as the season progresses. However, until proven otherwise, Harris should post decent production based on volume alone.
Aug 24, 2024
One drive in preseason finale
Harris rushed the ball once for five yards in Saturday's 24-17 preseason loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Harris played on the opening drive with Russell Wilson under center and received his carry on the opening play of the game. He'll likely head into Week 1 as the top choice in Pittsburgh's backfield for early down work, though the team has continuously played down the significance of Jaylen Warren's hamstring injury. If Warren is able to suit up, he would likely cost Harris significant work as a pass catcher as well as some rushing attempts.
Aug 18, 2024
Could dominate early-season work
Harris rushed the ball four times for 17 yards in Saturday's 9-3 preseason loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
The Pittsburgh offense was stymied for nearly the entire game, though Harris did manage a tough nine-yard run late in the first quarter to pick up a first down. The far bigger development Saturday was that Jaylen Warren was forced to exit the game with a hamstring issue. It's unclear how serious the injury is, but it could leave Harris as the clear lead back early in the regular season.
Aug 9, 2024
Four touches in preseason game
Harris rushed three times for nine yards and caught his only target for 16 yards in Friday's 20-12 preseason loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Harris and Jaylen Warren (three carries for 11 yards) both mixed in with the first-team offense, which played the entire first quarter and featured Justin Fields under center with fellow offseason acquisition Russell Wilson sitting out. Harris and Warren will likely split playing time once again this season, though it was encouraging that Harris got the lone catch between the two Friday after Warren finished with 61 receptions compared to 29 for Harris during the 2023 regular season. Pittsburgh's next preseason game will be next Saturday against the Bills.
May 17, 2024
Dropping weight for contract season
Harris' trainer said Friday the running back has dropped to around 235 pounds this offseason after playing at 242 during the 2023 season, and that he's increasingly motivated after the Steelers declined his fifth-year option, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris is heading into the final season of his rookie deal with Pittsburgh, so there's no doubt about his motivation to log a productive year and earn sizeable payday for 2025. Playing at a lower weight could help Harris' efficiency metrics, and there's also some reason to be optimistic that he now finds himself in a better scenario than 2023, when he set new career-high marks with eight rushing touchdowns and 4.1 YPC. Rookie first-round pick Troy Fautanu should represent an upgrade to the O-line, and while there are question marks surrounding Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, both have the potential to command a more effective offense than Kenny Pickett did. Harris is capable of handling 20-plus touches but also dependent on volume to produce, making the emergence of Jaylen Warren the biggest threat to his fantasy prospects.
May 2, 2024
Pittsburgh declines 2025 option
The Steelers declined their 2025 option on Harris' contract, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
This comes as somewhat of a surprise after Harris has posted three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons since being selected 24th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Most impressively, Harris has never missed a game at a position that sees so many injuries. He's been a model of toughness and durability, even if the stats haven't particularly jumped off the page with a career 3.9 yards-per-carry average. Harris, however, did rush for a career-best eight touchdowns last season, averaging a three year-best 4.1 yards per carry. Harris is now tentatively schedule to hit free agency next March, though Adam Schefter of ESPN notes that the Steelers aren't ruling out reaching a deal with the 26-year-old running back before then.
Jan 15, 2024
Stymied by Bills in loss
Harris rushed 12 times for 37 yards and brought in two of three targets for 15 yards in the Steelers' 31-17 wild-card loss to the Bills on Monday afternoon.
ANALYSIS
Harris got his fair share of work despite the game script turning against the ground game fairly early. The third-year pro's quiet finish was in stark contrast to the last three games of the regular season in particular, a span in which he recorded 312 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground while adding a 5-21 line through the air. Looking ahead to 2024, Harris is set to enter the final year of his contract after three straight 1,000-yard seasons to open his career, and a decision on picking up his fifth-year option therefore looms this spring.
Jan 11, 2024
Set to face Bills on Sunday
Harris (knee) returned to a full practice Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris, who has been managing a knee issue of late, didn't practice Wednesday, but the running back's return to a full session a day later indicates that his initial absence was maintenance-related and paves the way for him to lead the Steelers' backfield Sunday on the road against Buffalo in potentially inclement conditions. In that context, Harris could be busy in his team's playoff opener, on the heels of carrying 26 times for 112 yards and a touchdown, while adding five catches on as many targets for 21 yards on Pittsburgh's Week 18 win over the Ravens.
Jan 10, 2024
Sits out practice Wednesday
Harris (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris has been managing a knee issue since Week 14 and has been an injury report regular since then. However, the running back didn't miss any games this season and his listed 'DNP' on Wednesday is presumably a continuation of the recent trend to manage his practice workload. In the Steelers' Week 18 win over the Ravens, Harris paced the team's backfield by carrying 26 times for 112 yards and a TD, while adding five catches on as many targets for 21 yards. At this stage, there's nothing to suggest that his availability for Sunday's playoff opener against the Bills is in any danger.
Jan 6, 2024
Carries Steelers to win
Harris rushed the ball 26 times for 112 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 17-10 win over the Ravens. He added five catches on five targets for 21 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris was called upon to carry a particularly heavy workload in rainy conditions, and he's now combined to record 53 rushing attempts across his last two games. He's topped 100 rushing yards in each, with Saturday's performance keyed by three gains of at least 10 yards and two additional gains of nine yards. Harris also opened up the scoring for the Steelers with a six-yard rush up the middle and into the end zone early in the first quarter. That marked his eighth touchdown of the season and fourth in his last three games. With the performance, Harris also topped 1,000 rushing yards, a feat which he has now accomplished in each of his three seasons.
Jan 4, 2024
Ready to go for Saturday's game
Harris (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Saturday's game against the Ravens, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris has been a regular on Pittsburgh injury reports since the beginning of December due to the knee issue, but he hasn't missed a game and will continue his streak of appearances Saturday in the regular-season finale. After practicing fully Thursday, Harris looks poised to enter the weekend without any restrictions. He's coming off his best rushing performance of the season in the Steelers' Week 17 win over the Seahawks this past Sunday, when he carried 27 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns. He appears to have fully ceded passing-down work to backup Jaylen Warren, however, as Harris has gone three consecutive games without a target.
Jan 3, 2024
DNP on Wednesday due to knee
Harris (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris was listed as a limited participant at Tuesday's walk-through, but Wednesday's absence is most likely a case of load management for the workhorse running back ahead of Saturday's pivotal game against the Ravens. Harris has frequently sat out practice in recent weeks but has yet to miss a game this season and is coming off his best rushing performance of the campaign -- 122 yards and two touchdowns at Seattle.
Jan 2, 2024
Limited at Tuesday's walkthrough
Harris (knee) is listed as limited on Tuesday's practice estimate, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris now has been impacted by a knee injury for five consecutive weeks, but he's still been able to suit up for each of the Steelers' past four games on his way to 73 touches for 281 yards from scrimmage and three rushing TDs. Meanwhile, fellow RB Jaylen Warren has managed 260 total yards and one score on the ground on 56 touches during that same span. Assuming Harris gets through the week unscathed and is able to play Saturday in Baltimore, a similar breakdown of reps between him and Warren likely will follow.
Dec 31, 2023
Runs through Seahawks
Harris rushed the ball 27 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 30-23 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Pittsburgh's offense was focused on the ground game, as the team attempted 46 rushes as opposed to only 24 passes. As a result, Harris saw a season-high 27 carries, and he also surpassed 100 yards for the first time in the campaign. Harris added to his big day by finding the end zone twice -- first on a nine-yard carry and then from four yards out -- and he now has three touchdowns across the last two games with Mason Rudolph under center. In that same two-game span, he's managed a total of 200 rushing yards, with the only downside to his performances being a total lack of involvement as a pass catcher.
Dec 29, 2023
Good to go against Seahawks
Harris (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Seahawks after practicing without limitations Friday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris raised his practice participation throughout the week and should handle his usual workload as the top option on the ground in Pittsburgh's backfield, with Jaylen Warren getting more opportunities in passing situations. Harris has been playing through this knee injury for a few weeks with mixed results, rushing for at least 78 yards and a touchdown twice in the last six games but falling short of 50 scrimmage yards in three of the other four.
Dec 28, 2023
Upgrades to limited activity
Harris (knee) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers are managing Harris' practice reps after he tied a season high with 19 carries (for 78 yards and a touchdown) in this past Saturday's 34-11 win over the Bengals. After sitting out Wednesday's session, Harris took a step forward in terms of activity Thursday and still appears in good shape to play through the lingering knee concern in this Sunday's game in Seattle. He may need to put in a full practice Friday to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend, however.
Dec 27, 2023
Sits out practice Wednesday
Harris (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris also sat out last Wednesday's practice with a knee issue, before returning to full practices both Thursday and Friday. With no reported setbacks in this past Saturday's win over the Bengals, a game in which the running back logged 19 carries, there's a decent chance that Harris' non-participation to start the Steelers' preparation for Sunday's game against the Seahawks is maintenance-related.
Dec 23, 2023
Success against Bengals continues
Harris rushed 19 times for 78 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 34-11 win over the Bengals. He wasn't targeted in the passing game.
ANALYSIS
Harris powered in a three-yard touchdown in the second quarter, raising his season rushing touchdown total to five. He had a season-high 99 rushing yards and scored against the Bengals back in Week 12, so two of Harris' three highest yardage totals on the ground this season have come against the Bengals. Harris is averaging only 3.7 yards per carry against opponents other than Cincinnati, but he continues to handle the majority of rushing opportunities in Pittsburgh's backfield over Jaylen Warren heading into a Week 17 trip to Seattle.
Dec 20, 2023
Back to full participation
Harris (knee) was a full participant at Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Harris' absence from practice Tuesday was just precautionary, as he returned without limitations one day later. He's likely to handle the majority of touches as usual out of Pittsburgh's backfield Saturday against the Bengals. Harris produced a season-high 99 rushing yards on 15 carries when these AFC North rivals faced off in Week 12, but he has just 125 rushing yards on 40 attempts in three subsequent games.
Dec 19, 2023
No activity Tuesday
Harris (knee) was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday's injury report, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris managed a knee injury the previous two weeks, but he still was active the last two contests, combining for 24 carries for 62 yards and three catches (on three targets) for 19 yards in losses to the Patriots and Colts. In those same games, fellow running back Jaylen Warren racked up 26 touches for 108 yards from scrimmage, so even if Harris is able to gut through his health concern Saturday against the Bengals, he likely will continue to split backfield reps with Warren.
Dec 16, 2023
Costly fumble in loss
Harris rushed the ball 12 times for 33 yards in Saturday's 30-13 loss to the Colts. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Harris paced the Pittsburgh backfield in rushing attempts, but he was surpassed by Jaylen Warren in total touches. Harris's day was defined by a fumble on the Steelers' opening possession of the third quarter, which led directly to a Colts touchdown. He still saw four rushing attempts thereafter -- the same number as Warren -- so it doesn't appear that the turnover will cost him opportunity heading into a Week 16 matchup against the Bengals.
Dec 13, 2023
Shakes off knee concern
Harris (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
After being listed as questionable ahead of last Thursday's game against the Patriots while tending to the knee issue, Harris suited up and played 39 snaps in the Steelers' 21-18 loss while finishing with 12 carries for 29 yards and three catches for 19 yards. The Steelers didn't indicate that Harris experienced any setbacks coming out of that contest, and his ability to take every rep Wednesday a day after being listed as a non-participant in practice suggests that his absence Tuesday was mostly maintenance-related. Harris looks set to split work out of the backfield with Jaylen Warren once again during this Saturday's game in Indianapolis.
Dec 12, 2023
Sits out practice with knee injury
Harris (knee) didn't participate in Tuesday's practice, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris was listed as questionable ahead of last Thursday's game against the Patriots after he was unable to practice in any fashion leading up to the contest while he managed the knee issue, but he was ultimately cleared to play and accounted for 48 yards from scrimmage on 15 touches (12 carries, three receptions) in the Steelers' 21-18 loss. Even with the benefit of a longer turnaround for this Saturday's game in Indianapolis, Harris was a spectator for the Steelers' first practice this week, though it's possible he was just receiving some extra maintenance. Harris will likely need to turn in a full practice Wednesday or Thursday to avoid taking a designation into the weekend.
Dec 7, 2023
Accrues 48 total yards
Harris rushed 12 times for 29 yards and secured all three targets for 19 yards in the Steelers' 21-18 loss to the Patriots on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Harris was unsurprisingly stymied on the ground by an elite Patriots run defense, and he wasn't able to much to complement his production with his work through the air. The third-year back did outpace backfield mate Jaylen Warren by five carries, although the latter drew two more targets. It was a forgettable night for both backs, so Harris' role should remain robust in a more palatable Week 15 road matchup against the Colts on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16.
Dec 7, 2023
Suits up Thursday
Harris (knee) is listed as active for Thursday night's game against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Harris, who is managing a knee issue, was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday and Wednesday's practice reports before being deemed questionable ahead of Thursday's contest. With the running back's active status versus New England confirmed, Harris will have an opportunity to continue to pace the Steelers' backfield in Week 14. However, if he ends limited at all or encounters any setbacks with his knee, Jaylen Warren is available to pick up added backfield touches. In Pittsburgh's 24-10 loss to Arizona this past Sunday, Harris carried 16 times for 63 yards and added two catches on three targets for 14 yards, while Warren rushed nine times for 59 yards and caught one pass for minus-four yards.
Dec 7, 2023
Expected to play Thursday
Harris (knee) is expected to play Thursday night against the Patriots, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris, who was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday and Wednesday's practice reports, is officially listed as questionable for the contest, but Pelissero indicates that the running back -- who is managing a knee issue -- is expected to face New England, barring any pre-game setbacks. Either way, official confirmation of Harris' Week 14 status will arrive once the Steelers' inactives are posted ahead of Thursday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 6, 2023
Optimism for Thursday night
The Steelers are optimistic Harris (knee) will play Thursday against the Patriots despite being listed as a non-participant in practice Tuesday and Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
There was no sign of any issue in a 24-10 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, with Harris taking 18 touches for 77 yards while handling his largest snap share (59 percent) of the season. He's taken between 49 and 59 percent of snaps every week this year -- and has never missed a game since entering the NFL in 2021 -- but possibilities for Week 14 include being active in a lesser-than-usual role. Fantasy managers should prepare for all outcomes, including the possibility Harris is deemed inactive 90 minutes before Thursday's 8:15 kickoff, in which case Jaylen Warren would be in line for his largest workload of the season after splitting things pretty close to 50/50 with Harris in recent weeks. Behind the Harris-Warren duo, Pittsburgh rosters Anthony McFarland and Godwn Igwebuike for backfield depth.
Dec 6, 2023
Questionable after pair of DNPs
Harris (knee) didn't practice Wednesday and is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Patriots, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris also sat out Tuesday's walkthrough, so he hasn't practiced at all leading into Thursday's game. It's possible that his absences were precautionary on a short week, but there's legitimate doubt over Harris' availability, which will be cleared up 90 minutes before Thursday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff. If Harris is unavailable or limited, Jaylen Warren would likely take on a larger workload, with Godwin Igwebuike or Anthony McFarland possibly mixing in behind him.
Dec 5, 2023
Tending to knee issue
Harris didn't take part in Tuesday's walkthrough due to a knee injury, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris wasn't included on Pittsburgh's practice estimate Monday, so his addition one day later is somewhat concerning ahead of Thursday's game against the Patriots. He hasn't missed a game in his two-plus seasons as a pro, but it's now unclear if he may be in danger of sitting out this week. Harris' listing on Wednesday's injury report may be telling as it pertains to the state of the team's Week 14 backfield. If Harris is limited or sidelined Thursday, Jaylen Warren likely would take on a workhorse role for the Steelers.
Dec 3, 2023
Racks up 77 yards
Harris rushed the ball 16 times for 63 yards in Sunday's 24-10 loss to Arizona. He added two receptions on three targets for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
Despite Jaylen Warren being the more efficient runner, Harris once again led the Pittsburgh backfield in terms of both carries and yards. Harris's longest rush of the day went for 11 yards, but he was also involved in the turning point of the game when he was stonewalled at the goal line on fourth down late in the second quarter. Though this wasn't a particularly notable performance, Harris has at least 75 total yards in four of his last five games, and he also has three touchdowns in that span.
Nov 26, 2023
Leads Pittsburgh backfield
Harris rushed the ball 15 times for 99 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 16-10 win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Harris led the Pittsburgh backfield in terms of both production and opportunity, something of a surprise given Jaylen Warren's recent performances. However, Harris looked explosive in his own right Sunday, ripping off long gains of 22, 20 and 13 yards. He also scored his fourth touchdown of the season, each of which has come in his last six games. Pittsburgh has shown a commitment to giving both Warren and Harris significant run, and that shouldn't be projected to change heading into a Week 13 matchup against Arizona.
Nov 19, 2023
Finds little rushing room
Harris rushed the ball 12 times for 35 yards in Sunday's 13-10 loss to the Browns. He added one reception for one yard.
ANALYSIS
Harris led the Pittsburgh backfield in touches, narrowly seeing more opportunities than Jaylen Warren. However, he couldn't find much room to operate, as he was held below 50 rushing yards for the third time in his last eight games. Harris remains a safe option from a volume perspective, but his fantasy value largely comes down to his ability to find the end zone.
Nov 12, 2023
Scores in victory
Harris rushed 16 times for 82 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-19 win over the Packers. He also caught three of four targets for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris opened the scoring with a walk-in touchdown from four yards on Pittsburgh's first offensive series. That gave Harris a score in three of his last four contests, including back-to-back outings, and he proceeded to set a season high in rushing yards to boot. Harris' production came while teammate Jaylen Warren actually outgained him with 101 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, yet it was a successful display from Harris nonetheless.

Finds end zone in Week 9 win
Harris rushed 16 times for 69 yards and a touchdown and brought in two of four targets for seven yards in the Steelers' 20-16 win over the Titans on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Harris saw backfield mate Jaylen Warren outgain him by 19 yards on five fewer carries, but the former still put together a solid performance overall. Harris' yardage total was actually his second highest of the campaign, and he got the night off to a noteworthy start by recording a 10-yard touchdown run to cap off a game-opening 10-play, 78-yard drive for Pittsburgh. While Warren's career-best effort Thursday was impressive, it's likely Harris retains at least a slight advantage in workload during a Week 10 home matchup against the Packers on Nov. 12.
Oct 29, 2023
Catches five passes
Harris rushed seven times for 13 yards while securing all five of his targets for 42 yards during the Steelers' 20-10 loss to Jacksonville on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Harris averaged just 1.9 yards per carry Sunday, the third-lowest mark of his career. However, he managed to prop up his fantasy production through his success as a receiver. Fellow running back Jaylen Warren was also inefficient on the ground with five rushes for 19 yards, but Harris' performance didn't do much to strengthen his case for a larger role in the backfield. Harris has rushed 84 times for 313 yards and a touchdown while securing 13 of 16 targets for 94 yards over the first seven games of the season.
Oct 22, 2023
First touchdown of season in win
Harris rushed 14 times for 53 yards and a touchdown and secured all three of his targets for 15 yards in the Steelers' 24-17 win over the Rams on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Harris' three-yard touchdown run just past the midway point of the fourth quarter was his first of the season, and he was able to get over the 50-yard mark on the ground for the third time in the last four games. Harris was less efficient than backfield mate Jaylen Warren, who also scored a touchdown in his own right, but the former still outpaced the latter by eight carries. Consequently, the third-year pro appears to remain in firm possession of the lead-back role heading into a Week 8 home matchup against the Jaguars.
Oct 8, 2023
Held in check by Baltimore
Harris carried the ball 14 times for 37 yards in Sunday's 17-10 win over Baltimore. He added one reception for three yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris led Pittsburgh in carries and out-touched Jaylen Warren by a mark of 15-12. However, he found very little running room and managed more than two yards on only five of his 14 attempts. Harris appeared to be trending in the right direction after racking up 168 total yards across his last two games, but this performance was a step back and raises questions about his role after the team returns from a bye for a Week 7 matchup against the Rams.
Oct 1, 2023
Triple-digit scrimmage yards Sunday
Harris carried the ball 14 times for 71 yards and caught one of two targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
The running back actually led the Steelers in receiving yards on a day when the passing game struggled even before Kenny Pickett (knee) got sidelined, and Harris also set season highs in rushing and scrimmage yards for himself. After scoring 10 TDs in each of his first two NFL campaigns, Harris is still looking for his first score of 2023, but that could be a tall task in Week 5 against a Ravens defense that has yet to allow a rushing touchdown.
Sep 25, 2023
Modest output in win
Harris took 19 carries for 65 yards while failing to bring in his lone target in Sunday's 23-18 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Harris' 19 rushing attempts Sunday surpassed the total from his first two games combined. This was due in large part to the Steelers' more-balanced offensive gameplan that featured 28 passes and 31 rushing attempts. Backup Jaylen Warren remained involved with 43 combined yards on 11 touches, but Harris ate up most of the early-down work amid rumors of losing touches following a slow start. Pittsburgh's starter struggled to find running room with the increased workload, but no player on either team averaged more than 3.7 yards per carry in what turned out to be a physical battle. Harris and his fantasy managers will be looking for carries closer to the end zone as he seeks his first touchdown of the season against the Texans next Sunday.
Sep 24, 2023
Could lose carries to Warren
Harris is "still very much a big part" of the Steelers' plans, though Mike Garofolo of NFL Network relays that Jaylen Warren is expected to see more involvement in the running game in Sunday's matchup with the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Even if Warren's role in Pittsburgh's ground attack expands as anticipated, Harris still appears likely to pace the Steelers in carries Week 3. However, Harris' standing as the Steelers' lead back hasn't translated to an abundance of touches through the first two weeks, as he's been limited to just 16 carries for 74 yards (4.6 average). Harris already appears to have lost out to Warren as the Steelers' primary pass-catching back, as the latter has drawn 12 targets to Harris' four between Weeks 1 and 2. A more favorable game script against the 1-1 Raiders could lead to more volume on the ground Sunday, but Harris' overall fantasy value still seems to be trending down at the moment.
Sep 19, 2023
Minimal output in win
Harris rushed 10 times for 43 yards and caught his lone target for no gain in Monday's 26-22 win over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Pittsburgh's offense struggled to move the ball for most of this physical battle between division rivals, needing its defense to score twice in order to secure victory. Part of blame can be placed on Harris' inability to find running room outside of a 21-yard gain. Harris has now posted two duds to begin the season, but he retains value in his role as Pittsburgh's top backfield option. He will search for better results when the Steelers take on the Raiders in Week 3.
Sep 10, 2023
Logs six carries in blowout loss
Harris rushed six times for 31 yards while securing both of his targets for two yards during the Steelers' 30-7 loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Harris was reportedly on track to share playing time with Jaylen Warren ahead of Sunday's matchup, but neither running back got much work during the regular-season opener since the Steelers fell behind early. Harris should see more work in closer games, but it's possible Warren also garners a role in the offense after logging three carries against San Francisco. The Steelers have a more favorable matchup against the Browns on tap in Week 2, although Cincinnati's defense held the Bengals in check during the regular-season opener.
Aug 24, 2023
Gets more work than Warren
Harris took four carries for 18 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for 16 yards in Thursday's preseason game at Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Harris and Jaylen Warren split snaps on the first-team offense over the first two drives Thursday night, with the latter taking two carries for 14 yards and a TD. Harris helped set up Warren's score with a 16-yard gain on a screen pass, after closing out the opening drive with a one-yard TD plunge. The usage in Thursday's game supports OC Matt Canada's recent statement that Warren's strong preseason hasn't changed anything in terms of Harris being the Steelers' top running back. They both get a challenging matchup Week 1 when the 49ers travel to Pittsburgh.
Aug 21, 2023
Not in danger of losing top spot
Offensive coordinator Matt Canada said Monday that Harris is undoubtedly Pittsburgh's top running back, Chris Adamski of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jaylen Warren ripped off a 62-yard TD in Saturday's exhibition against Buffalo, while Harris has three touches for only five yards through two preseason appearances. Canada confirmed that the light workload is merely about preserving Harris for the regular season, at which point he'll remain the lead rusher but figures to lose some snaps to Warren, particularly on passing downs. The Steelers OC told reporters that he still expects "Najee to be Najee" once the regular season begins, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com.
Aug 19, 2023
Another brief appearance
Harris rushed the ball twice for six yards in Saturday's 27-15 preseason victory over Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
Harris took the first two carries of the game out of the Pittsburgh backfield, though he was bottled up on both attempts. He gave way to Jaylen Warren on the team's opening drove, and Warren proceeded to rip off a 62-yard touchdown run on his first attempt of the game. Harris projects to retain the lead-back role in Pittsburgh to begin the regular season, but it's possible he cedes some additional work to Warren.
Aug 12, 2023
Sees brief action with starters
Harris joined the starters for the opening drive of Friday's exhibition win over Tampa Bay, but he did not record a carry and caught his lone target for a loss of a yard.
ANALYSIS
While Harris wasn't used as a runner during the starters' brief appearance Friday, he did record the first touch out of Pittsburgh's backfield via a reception. Backup Jaylen Warren spelled Harris on the opening drive and finished with three carries for 13 yards. Harris is still the unquestioned starter in Pittsburgh, but injuries and a lack of improvement on a solid rookie season has likely shortened his leash should he get off to a slow start in 2023. Expect the Steelers to get their lead back involved offensively at some point this preseason, with that next opportunity coming on Aug. 19 against the Bills.
Jan 8, 2023
Overcomes early fumble
Harris carried the ball 23 times for 84 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-14 win over the Browns. He added one catch for 10 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris topped 20 rushing attempts for the third time in his last four games, and he topped 80 rushing yards in six of Pittsburgh's final nine games to close the season. His effort Sunday was highlighted by a run of 11 yards and a trip to the end zone from four yards away. He narrowly missed a bigger performance, as he was denied at the goal line and was stripped of the ball early in the first quarter. Nevertheless, Harris has topped 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first two seasons in the NFL, and he also tallied 10 total touchdowns in both campaigns. He'll head into 2023 as the Steelers' lead back once again.
Jan 1, 2023
Catches game-winning TD
Harris rushed 22 times for 111 yards and caught two of three targets for 12 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 16-13 win over Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Harris finally reached the century mark in rushing yards for the first time this season after coming close on several occasions. The physical back was able to gash one of the better run defenses for five yards per carry -- albeit sans star defensive tackle Calais Campbell (knee) -- after being limited to 33 yards on 12 carries when these same teams met in Week 14. The 24-year-old did most of his damage on the ground, but his primary highlight will be from the impressive catch he made at the corner of the end zone to seal the win late for Pittsburgh. Harris will remain a focal part of the offense as the Steelers attempt to keep their playoff hopes alive against the Browns on Sunday.
Dec 24, 2022
Racks up six catches
Harris rushed the ball 16 times for 53 yards in Saturday's 13-10 win over the Raiders. He added six receptions for 42 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris paced the Pittsburgh backfield, accounting for 16 of the 24 rushing attempts by skill-position players. However, he was largely stymied as a rusher and was held below 50 yards on the ground for the third time in the last five games. He still managed to salvage his performance with his most productive game of the season as a receiver, regularly serving as a dumpoff option for Kenny Pickett. Overall, Harris has at least 90 total yards in four of his last seven games, and he also has five touchdowns in that span.
Dec 22, 2022
Good to go this week
Harris (hip) practiced fully Thursday and doesn't carry an injury designation ahead of Saturday night's game against the Raiders, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris logged a 'DNP' on Wednesday, but his return to a full session Thursday puts the running back on track to be active and lead the Steelers' backfield in Week 16. In the team's 24-16 win over the Panthers this past Sunday, Harris logged 24 carries for 86 yards and a TD, while backup Jaylen Warren handled 12 touches for 49 yards and a touchdown. This weekend, the duo will be facing a defense that had trouble containing Rhamondre Stevenson (19/172/1) in the Raiders' Week 15 win over the Patriots.
Dec 21, 2022
Held out of practice
Harris (hip) didn't practice Wednesday, Chris Halicke of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a downgrade from Tuesday when Harris was listed as limited, though the Steelers didn't actually hold a practice just two days after their win over the Panthers. They face the Raiders on Saturday, with Jaylen Warren ready to pick up slack in the backfield if things go south with Harris' hip injury. He did miss practice last Wednesday with the same hip injury, then returned to full participation the next day and took 24 carries for 86 yards and a TD in the 24-16 win over Carolina (Warren added 12 touches for 49 yards and a TD on 34 percent of snaps).
Dec 20, 2022
Starts week listed LP
Harris (hip) is listed as a limited participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report, Dale Lolley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers didn't actually practice but should get out on the field Wednesday and Thursday ahead of Saturday's matchup with the Raiders. Harris was listed with the hip injury last week and ended up taking 24 carries for 86 yards and a TD in a 24-16 win over Carolina, though he did cede 12 touches and 34 percent of offensive snaps to second-stringer Jaylen Warren.
Dec 18, 2022
Scores in win
Harris rushed 24 times for 86 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-16 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Harris opened the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown rush during the first quarter. That score brought his total to five over his last five games. Although he wasn't particularly efficient while garnering a season high in carries, Harris still topped 80 rushing yards for the fourth time in his past six appearances. His production Sunday came without any targets in the passing game, but Harris nonetheless has found some solid late-season form.
Dec 15, 2022
Returns to full practice
Harris (hip) practiced fully Thursday, Missi Matthews of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris sat out practice Wednesday due to a hip issue, but the running back's return to a full session Thursday puts him in line to suit up for Sunday's game against the Panthers and continue to lead the Steelers' backfield. In his team's 16-14 loss to the Ravens in Week 14, Harries carried 12 times for 33 yards and a TD, while adding two catches on three targets for 17 yards. He'll look to pick up the pace this weekend against a Carolina defense that has allowed an average of 128.8 rushing yards per game to date.
Dec 14, 2022
Misses practice Wednesday
Harris (hip) didn't practice Wednesday, the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris managed an oblique issue at practice last week, with his listed hip injury a new concern. Thursday's injury report will add further context to the running back's status for Sunday's game against the Panthers, but if Harris is limited or out this weekend, Jaylen Warren and Benny Snell would be in line for added snaps in Week 15.
Dec 11, 2022
Touchdown saves day
Harris rushed the ball 12 times for 33 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 16-14 loss to the Ravens. He added two receptions on three targets for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris accounted for the majority of the work out of the Steelers' backfield, recording 12 of 18 carries by skill position players. However, as has been the case for much of the year, the team's offense struggled to produce consistently, limiting Harris' potential in turn. He didn't help matters, as his longest rush of the day went for only eight yards, and he averaged only 2.8 yards per carry. Harris saved his performance with a one-yard touchdown plunge late in the first quarter, his fifth score of the season. Prior to Sunday's game, Harris had totaled 90 or more total yards in three of four contests.
Dec 9, 2022
No Week 14 injury designation
Harris (oblique) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Ravens after practicing fully Friday, Brooek Pryor of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris steadily raised his practice participation over the course of the week, going from no practice to a limited session before upgrading to full participation Friday. He racked up 92 yards on 18 touches while playing through this oblique injury in Week 13, so Harris is expected to handle a full workload in this clash between AFC North rivals.
Dec 8, 2022
Back at practice
Harris (oblique) returned to a limited practice Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris didn't practice Wednesday, but the running back's return to the field Thursday bodes well for his chances of playing Sunday against the Ravens. Friday's final injury report will reveal whether Pittsburgh's top back heads into the weekend with an injury designation or fully cleared for Week 14 action.
Dec 7, 2022
Misses practice Wednesday
Harris (oblique) didn't practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris managed an oblique issue last week before approaching this past Sunday's win over the Falcons minus an injury designation en route to logging 43 snaps in Week 13 and rushing 17 times for 86 yards, while adding one catch for six yards. With no reported setbacks in that contest, it's plausible that the running back's Wednesday absence is maintenance-related rather than indicative of a injury setback ahead of this weekend's game against the Ravens.
Dec 4, 2022
Totals 92 yards against Falcons
Harris rushed the ball 17 times for 86 yards in Sunday's 19-16 win over Atlanta. He added one reception on one target for six yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris appeared to be in jeopardy of missing Sunday's game, but he managed to suit up after logging only one limited practice during the week. He ceded some work to Benny Snell but still accounted for 17 of the team's 25 carries by either running backs or full backs. Harris was also fairly efficient with his opportunity, ripping off a pair of runs that went for more than 10 yards while averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Harris has either topped 85 rushing yards or scored a touchdown in each of his last four games.
Dec 2, 2022
Cleared to play Sunday
Harris (oblique) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Falcons after returning to a limited practice Friday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
"I'll play," said Harris, who suffered an oblique injury against the Colts this past Monday. "I felt good. First day doing stuff. Just getting back to the movements and moving around. It felt good. Rest will help. That is what I was doing the past two days and letting it heal itself a little bit." Harris is thus slated to lead the Steelers' rushing attack this weekend and assuming no in-game setbacks, he should log enough volume to maintain fantasy utility in Week 13. Meanwhile, Harris' top backup Jaylen Warren, who was inactive versus Indianapolis, is listed as questionable after practicing fully this week and Benny Snell (knee, full practice Friday) is good to go versus Atlanta.
Dec 2, 2022
Expects to play Sunday
Harris (oblique) plans to play Sunday against the Falcons, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, but it looks like he'll be able to give it a go Sunday. Friday's final injury report will clarify whether the Steelers' top running back approaches the contest with a Week 13 injury designation or fully cleared to play this weekend.
Dec 1, 2022
Logs another DNP
Harris (oblique) didn't practice Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris, who suffered an oblique injury against the Colts this past Monday, has now missed back-to-back sessions, though a return to practice in an capacity Friday would boost his chances of suiting up Sunday against the Falcons. If Harris ends up out or limited this weekend though, Jaylen Warren -- a full participant for the second day in a row after being inactive in Week 12 -- would be in line for an expanded role versus Atlanta.
Nov 30, 2022
Misses practice with oblique injury
Harris didn't practice Wednesday due to an oblique injury, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Previous reports indicated that Harris suffered an abdominal injury in Monday's win over the Colts, but the Steelers are now listing him with an oblique issue ahead of this Sunday's game against the Falcons. On the plus side in terms of the Steelers' Week 13 backfield prospects, Harris's top backup Jaylen Warren (hamstring) indicated that he has been cleared to play this weekend, a notion supported by his full practice participation Wednesday.
Nov 30, 2022
Week 13 status TBD
Harris, who suffered an abdominal injury Monday night against the Colts, reportedly avoided a major injury in the contest, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Harris' status for this Sunday's game against the Falcons is up in the air, with the running back slated to be evaluated as the week progresses. If Harris is limited or out this weekend, Jaylen Warren and Benny Snell would be candidates for added Week 13 touches, though Warren is dealing with a hamstring issue that led to him being inactive versus Indianapolis. Meanwhile, RBs Anthony McFarland, Jason Huntley and Master Teague are depth options currently on the Steelers' practice squad.
Nov 28, 2022
Suffers abdominal injury on MNF
Harris (abdomen) has been ruled out for the remainder of Monday's game against the Colts, Steelers Senior Director of Communications Burt Lauten reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris spent some time talking to trainers on the sidelines in the second quarter after walking off gingerly, but he returned a few plays later to punch in a six-yard touchdown. He then went to the locker room in the final minutes of the first half and was subsequently ruled out at the start of the second half. With Jaylen Warren (hamstring) inactive, Benny Snell and Anthony McFarland are Pittsburgh's backfield options for the second half of MNF.
Nov 20, 2022
Scores twice in Week 11 loss
Harris rushed 20 times for 90 yards and two touchdowns while catching four of six targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 37-30 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Harris' second rushing touchdown of the season came from 19 yards out and tied the score at 10 apiece in the second quarter. He scored again on a one-yard plunge with 45 seconds remaining, but the Steelers' hopes were extinguished when they failed to recover an onside kick following his second touchdown. After setting a season high with 99 rushing yards in Week 10 against the Saints, Harris produced his second-highest rushing total of the season. He got off to a slow start while playing through a foot injury, but Harris is heating up just as the weather's cooling down. Expect the Steelers to keep feeding their 2021 first-round pick on MNF against the Colts in Week 12.
Nov 16, 2022
Practices fully Wednesday
Harris (knee) practiced fully Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris had been dealing with what coach Mike Tomlin described as knee "discomfort" that wasn't expected to impact the running back's Week 11 availability and Harris' full practice participation Wednesday puts him on track to suit up this weekend against the Bengals and continue to lead the Steelers' rushing attack, with Jaylen Warren handling complementary duties. In this past Sunday's 20-10 win over the Saints, Harris logged a 60 percent snap share en route to recording 99 yards on a season-high 20 carries, while Warren (43 percent snap share) had nine carries for 37 yards and three catches for 40 yards.
Nov 15, 2022
Dealing with knee discomfort
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Harris is experiencing knee discomfort, though the issue isn't expected to prevent the running back from playing in Sunday's game against the Bengals, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris' knee issue could affect his participation in practices Wednesday through Friday, but the Steelers are proceeding as though he'll be ready to go for the Week 11 divisional matchup. After Tomlin hinted at the possibility of Harris ceding more work to backup Jaylen Warren in advance of the Steelers' Week 10 game against New Orleans, Harris proceeded to set season highs in carries (20) and rushing yards (99) in the 20-10 win. He's presumably a little sore after taking on the hefty workload, but Harris looks like he'll remain the Steelers' lead option on the ground if he's deemed ready to play this weekend, as anticipated.
Nov 13, 2022
Rushes for season-high 99 yards
Harris rushed 20 times for 99 yards while failing to secure his lone target during the Steelers' 20-10 win over New Orleans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Offensive coordinator Matt Canada said prior to Sunday's matchup that Harris could be in danger of losing some snaps, but the 2021 first-rounder had a season-high 20 rushes during the Week 10 victory. Jaylen Warren also saw his fair share of work, logging 77 yards from scrimmage. However, it was encouraging to see Harris record a season-high 99 yards as the Steelers picked up their third win of the year.
Nov 10, 2022
Facing challenge from Warren
Harris could be at risk of losing some snaps and/or touches out of the backfield to rookie Jaylen Warren, though offensive coordinator Matt Canada wouldn't commit to that materializing Week 10 against the Saints, Dale Lolley of the Steelers' official site reports. "I think when we're sitting here at 2-6, we're all searching and hunting for why that is," offensive coordinator Matt Canada said Thursday. "If you're a competitor, which Najee is, if you're a winner, which Najee is, you're a guy who wants to do a
ANALYSIS
Canada's comments don't shed much light on how the Pittsburgh backfield will shake out in the weeks to come, but the confidence he expressed in Harris suggests that the 2021 first-round pick will continue to start in Sunday's game against the Saints even after head coach Mike Tomlin hinted Tuesday that Warren's profile on offense could expand over the back half of the Steelers' schedule. For his part, Warren told Chris Adamski of TribLive.com that he hasn't seen any major increase in his rep counts during practice this week, so fantasy managers that have continued to deploy Harris in lineups amid his disappointing season have at least some reason to hope that he'll remain the preferred option in the backfield. While struggling through a Lisfranc injury in training camp and playing much of the first half of the season with a steel plate in his foot, Harris has yet to miss a game but is averaging a lowly 3.3 yards per carry on 108 totes and has found the end zone just three times. The foot injury and poor offen
Oct 30, 2022
Six receptions in blowout loss
Harris recorded eight rushes for 32 yards in Sunday's 35-13 loss to the Eagles. He added six receptions for 26 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris failed to reach double-digit rushing attempts for the first time this season, primarily because the Steelers were trailing for nearly the entire game. Instead, Harris did see a season-high six targets -- he caught all of them -- and managed his highest receiving yardage total since Week 2. While Jaylen Warren carried the ball six times, a significant amount of that work came in garbage time and Harris remains the clear lead back in Pittsburgh. Nevertheless, he has yet to reach 80 rushing or 100 total yards in a game this season.
Oct 23, 2022
Tallies 80 yards from scrimmage
Harris rushed 17 times for 65 yards while securing three of four targets for 15 yards during Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Harris has had an inconsistent start to the 2022 campaign, but he logged his second-highest total of the season in yards from scrimmage. The 24-year-old has failed to top 100 yards in any of the first seven games of the season, and it's possible that he faces an unfavorable game script next week if the Steelers fall behind early to the undefeated Eagles.
Oct 16, 2022
Reaches end zone in victory
Harris rushed 14 times for 42 yards while securing two of three targets for seven yards and a touchdown during the Steelers' 20-18 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Harris had a steel plate removed from the shoe on his left foot this week, signaling that he's moved past the Lisfranc injury that he dealt with during training camp. Although the Steelers picked up their second win of the season Sunday, Harris remained relatively inefficient, averaging just 3.0 yards per carry. He propped up his fantasy results with a six-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter, but it was discouraging to see him remain inefficient in Week 6. The 2021 first-rounder will face a more favorable opponent in Miami next Sunday.
Oct 14, 2022
Feels fully healed from foot injury
Harris said Friday that he had the steel plate removed from his left foot and feels that he's back to 100 percent health after battling a Lisfranc sprain in training camp, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris suffered an aggravation of the foot problem Week 1 against the Bengals and was forced to exit that contest, but he hasn't missed any games since. Though he's suited up in every game this season, Harris has mustered just 3.2 yards on 69 carries and has gained only 64 yards on 13 receptions (4.9 yards per catch). While poor quarterback and offensive-line play have likely factored into Harris' struggles to some extent, playing though the foot injury may have also played a part in his diminished effectiveness. Harris' positive outlook about his health is good news, but it doesn't necessarily indicate he's due to take a big jump forward in performance the rest of the way while his team context remains poor.
Oct 9, 2022
Inefficient in blowout loss
Harris rushed 11 times for 20 yards while securing three of four targets for 16 yards during the Steelers' 38-3 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Harris racked up a season-high 74 rushing yards during last week's loss to the Jets, but he averaged just 1.8 yards per carry during Sunday's blowout loss in Buffalo. Although the 2021 first-rounder had another discouraging performance to begin the year, he was facing a stingy run defense with an unfavorable game script since the Steelers fell behind early. Harris will face another tough test against the Buccaneers at home next week.
Oct 2, 2022
Racks up 74 rushing yards in loss
Harris rushed 18 times for 74 yards during the Steelers' 24-20 loss to the Jets on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Harris recorded a season-high 18 carries during Sunday's matchup, and his 4.1 yards per carry also represented his highest mark of the season. However, he was held without a target as the Steelers made a change at quarterback after halftime. It's not yet clear whether Mitch Trubisky or Kenny Pickett will serve as the team's starting quarterback going forward. However, even though Harris was less involved in Pittsburgh's passing game against the Jets, it's possible that he'll face less crowded boxes if the team turns to Pickett at quarterback and finds more success through the air.
Sep 22, 2022
Scores first rushing TD in loss
Harris rushed 15 times for 56 yards and a touchdown and brought in all three targets for five yards in the Steelers' 29-17 loss to the Browns on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The second-year back paced the Steelers' backfield in rush attempts and receiving yards, and he delivered for fantasy managers with a five-yard scoring run in the second quarter, his first touchdown on the ground this season. Harris' fumble came on a last-gasp play for Pittsburgh with no time remaining, when he mishandled a lateral from Chase Claypool and Denzel Ward landed on it in the end zone for a touchdown to end the game. Harris has been unsurprisingly busy with 40 carries and 10 catches through three games, and he'll now get some much-needed rest before facing the Jets defense in a Week 4 home matchup a week from Sunday.
Sep 18, 2022
Inefficient in rushing game
Harris rushed 15 times for 49 yards while hauling in five of six targets for 40 yards during Sunday's 17-14 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Although Harris missed the end of last week's regular-season opener due to a foot injury, he was a full participant in practice Thursday and Friday and saw plenty of touches during the team's narrow Week 2 loss. Although he propped up his fantasy production due to his involvement in the passing game, he was inefficient on the ground, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry after being held to 2.3 yards per carry last week. Harris' volume hasn't been a significant concern early in 2022, but he'll need to be more efficient if he hopes to justify the lofty ADP that he commanded ahead of his sophomore season.

Ready for Week 2
Harris (foot) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris was forced out of the waning minutes of Pittsburgh's eventual season-opening win at Cincinnati with a foot injury. Ensuing tests regarding the issue came back negative, and while his practice reps were limited Wednesday, he capped Week 2 prep with back-to-back full sessions. The second-year running back thus will be available for Week 2 action.
Sep 15, 2022
Practices fully
Harris (foot) returned to a full practice Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris, who was limited during Wednesday's session, has been indicating that he will be good to go Sunday against the Patriots and his full practice participation Thursday suggests that the Steelers' clear-cut top back won't have any limitations in Week 2. In Pittsburgh's season-opening 23-20 overtime win over the Bengals, Harris logged 37 snaps on offense en route to carrying 10 times for 23 yards and catching two passes for three yards and a TD, while top backup Jaylen Warren rushed three times for seven yards in the contest.
Sep 14, 2022
Logs limited practice
Harris (foot) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, the Steelers held a light practice Wednesday with no pads, so we should get a better read on Harris' Week 2 status after Thursday's session. For his part, the running back is downplaying the foot injury he suffered this past Sunday against the Bengals, noting after practice that "it's good." That said, coach Mike Tomlin indicated that he wants to see more from his starting running back as the week progresses before his status for this weekend's game against the Patriots is determined. Next up for added carries versus New England if Harris is out or limited is Jaylen Warren.
Sep 13, 2022
Says he'll play Week 2
Harris (foot) said Tuesday in his appearance on Sirius XM's "Mad Dog Sports Radio" that he "will be playing this weekend" against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Harris appears to have avoided a major foot injury after he exited late in the Steelers' season-opening overtime win over the Bengals, with medical tests returning negative. Even though Harris noted Tuesday that he "should be back practicing this week" before suiting up Sunday, a decision on his availability for the Week 2 matchup is likely to be made by the Steelers' training and coaching staffs. If Harris' prediction comes true and he suits up this weekend, he could still carry a designation into the contest if he's unable to turn in a full practice by Friday. Harris previously dealt with a Lisfranc sprain to the same foot during training camp, so the Steelers may be incentivized to exercise caution with him and perhaps even lighten his workload and snap count Week 2 to avoid a longer-term setback. Rookie Jaylen Warren is the next man up in the backfield if the Steelers elect to hold out or limit Harris this weekend.
Sep 12, 2022
Trending toward playing in Week 2
Tests on Harris' foot injury came back negative Monday, with Adam Schefter of ESPN indicating via a source that the running back "should be good to go" this coming Sunday against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
While Harris' status is still worth monitoring closely, it looks like he avoided a concerning aggravation of the Lisfranc sprain that he dealt with in training camp. Though he may be limited somewhat in practice this week, it now appears as though Harris, whose top backup is Jaylen Warren, is trending toward being available this weekend against New England.
Sep 11, 2022
Foot issue may not be serious
Michael Giardi of NFL Network suggests that Harris' foot injury is "not considered a big deal."
ANALYSIS
While that's an encouraging post-game nugget provided by Giardi, the running back's status will still need to be monitored closely as as next Sunday's game against the Patriots approaches, given that Harris previously dealt with a Lisfranc sprain in his foot during training camp. If Harris ends up being out or limited in Week 2, Jaylen Warren would presumably be a candidate to log added work in the Steelers' backfield versus New England.
Sep 11, 2022
Exits game with foot injury
Harris was forced out of Sunday's game against the Bengals with a foot injury, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit from the contest, Harris had carried 10 times for 23 yards and caught two passes for three yards and a TD. Next up for the team's carries and thus a potential Week 2 waiver wire target is Jaylen Warren.
Aug 29, 2022
Moves past Lisfranc sprain
Harris, who made his preseason debut Sunday against the Lions, indicated that he was previously dealing with a Lisfranc sprain in his foot, dating back to the first day of training camp, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, Harris drew the start at running back for the Steelers in their preseason finale on Sunday, en route to logging 28 snaps on offense, while carrying four times for 10 yards and catching all three of his targets for 11 yards. With no reported setbacks in the contest, Harris remains on track to continue to lead Pittsburgh's backfield in the team's season opener against the Bengals. Currently in the mix to log complementary RB snaps behind Harris -- the team's clear-cut top option at the position -- are Benny Snell, Anthony McFarland and Jaylen Warren.
Aug 28, 2022
Seven touches in preseason debut
Harris rushed four times for 10 yards and caught all three of his targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 19-9 preseason win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Harris -- who has had the starting job in Pittsburgh locked up -- finally got his feet wet right before the start of the regular season. The sophomore's fantasy managers were probably hoping for more production in the tune-up appearance after a pedestrian 3.9 yards per carry mark in 2021. That said, Harris should be in store for another high-volume season -- 381 touches and 10 touchdowns last year -- with a running back depth chart that looks similar to the one he led during his rookie campaign. Harris and the Steelers will take on the Bengals in Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 11.
Aug 26, 2022
Slated to play Sunday
Harris is slated to play in Sunday's preseason finale against the Lions, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, we wouldn't expect the Steelers' top back to log extensive action in the contest. With that in mind, the team's depth backs -- Benny Snell, Anthony McFarland, Jaylen Warren and Max Borghi -- should see their share of work Sunday, with backfield depth chart slotting on the line ahead of looming roster cuts.
Aug 20, 2022
Won't play Saturday night
Mike Tomlin confirmed Harris won't play in Saturday's preseason game against Jacksonville, Missi Matthews of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris dealt with a minor foot injury earlier in August, but he might be sitting out Saturday even if that weren't the case, as he's a rock-solid bet to rank among the NFL leaders in touch per game. He was able to handle a massive workload without missing any games as a rookie, leading all NFL backs in snaps (980) and touches (381). Running backs coach Eddie Faulkner suggested the Steelers would like Harris to play about seven fewer snaps per game this season, though perhaps without much sacrifice in terms of carries and targets (the idea being to take him off the field more on snaps where he's unlikely to see the ball).
Aug 17, 2022
Not in line to play Saturday
Harris indicated Wednesday that he's not in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that if Harris -- who has been managing a foot issue in training camp -- does play at all in the preseason, it will be in the Steelers' exhibition finale against the Lions on Aug. 28. In any case, Harris is entrenched as the team's top back, with Benny Snell (knee), Anthony McFarland, Jaylen Warren, Mataeo Durant and Master Teague (ankle) currently in the mix for depth chart slotting behind him in Pittsburgh's backfield.
Aug 15, 2022
Full participant in practice Monday
Harris, who had dealt with a foot injury over the last two weeks, was a full participant in Monday's practice session, Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris was a limited participant in practice over the last several weeks, but Monday's session marked the first time that he had fully participated since sustaining his foot injury in early August. The team never expressed significant concern about the issue, so it's unlikely that the foot injury will impact his availability to begin the regular season. However, the Steelers have said over the last few months that they plan to reduce Harris' snap count slightly in 2022 after he led all running backs in snaps, snap share, snaps per game and touches as a rookie last year.
Aug 9, 2022
Could lose a few snaps
The Steelers are looking to slightly reduce Harris' snap count, with RBs coach Eddie Faulker suggesting about seven fewer plays per game (compared to last season) as a reasonable target, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports
ANALYSIS
The idea is to take Harris off the field mostly on plays where he wouldn't get the ball anyway, though it can be a strategic disadvantage if the trend is strong enough for opponents to exploit. Last year as a rookie, Harris led all running backs in snaps (980), snap share (83.5 percent), snaps per game (57.6) and touches (381), with sizable leads in every category apart from the last one (Jonathan Taylor got 372 touches). The second-year pro may see a bit less playing time this year, but he still figures to be in the range of 20 touches per game, and it isn't clear how much the Steelers trust his potential backups (Benny Snell, Anthony McFarland, Jaylen Warren).
Aug 2, 2022
Misses practice Tuesday
Harris (foot) isn't practicing Tuesday, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike Tomlin noted Monday that that the Steelers' top back had his foot stepped on during practice, but indicated that it "shouldn't be a major deal." With that in mind, consider Harris day-to-day. Next up on the team's backfield depth chart are Benny Snell, Anthony McFarland, Jeremy McNichols (shoulder) and Mataeo Durant.
Aug 1, 2022
Foot issue downplayed
Coach Mike Tomlin noted that Harris' foot got stepped on during Monday's practice, but the coach added that it "shouldn't be a major deal," Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Given Tomlin's comments, we'll consider Harris day-to-day for now. Next up for Pittsburgh's backfield reps in practice as long as Harris is sidelined or limited is Benny Snell, with Anthony McFarland, Jeremy McNichols and Mataeo Durant also in the mix.
Aug 1, 2022
Exits with possible foot injury
Harris left Monday's practice with an apparent left foot/ankle injury, Adam H. Beasley of Pro Football Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris spent some time with trainers and took off his left shoe. Assuming he misses the rest of practice, Benny Snell is next up for first-team RB reps, with other options including Anthony McFarland and Jeremy McNichols.
Jul 7, 2022
Expects more rest this year
Harris doesn't expect to get quite as much playing time this upcoming season, though he did say he'll still be on the field a lot, Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. "I will be on the field a lot - but on certain downs, I will not be on the field," said Harris. "Just (pick my spots), I guess. Extra rest."
ANALYSIS
Harris led NFL running backs in snaps (980) and touches (381) last year, returning first-round fantasy value as a rookie while averaging only 3.7 YPC and 6.3 yards per reception (4.4 per touch). To be fair, a poor offensive line was a big part of that, and QB Ben Roethlisberger's struggles didn't help. The problem for 2022 is that Harris may have to deal with lousy O-Line and QB play again, in which case he'll need all the touches he can handle to achieve numbers similar to last year's. That's certainly possible, as is a major efficiency improvement, but Harris seems to be saying that he anticipates slightly lower snap shares this season. Last year, he was at 83.5 percent, with seven games of 94 percent or higher. If not for a Week 12 blowout and a minor injury Week 18, he might've hit 90 percent snap share for the year. Regardless of the big-picture plan for this season, there may still be weeks where Harris flirts with 90-plus percent, especially if the Steelers don't do anything to upgrade the unproven gr

Barely provides positive final line
Harris (elbow) rushed 12 times for 29 yards while catching both of his targets for a loss of one yard and losing a fumble in Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Harris was able to suit up after injuring his elbow in the Steelers' regular-season finale, but a balky elbow can't explain away being stonewalled by the defense as a runner. Onlookers can probably attribute the lost fumble to the rookie's injury, as he safely secured every single touch during his first turn in the pros. The 2021 first-round pick finished the regular season with 1,667 combined yards and 10 combined touchdowns as the Steelers' workhorse over 17 games, giving him starter's appeal across all formats based on volume alone. However, a sub-par 3.9 yard per carry mark left much to be desired in terms of his abilities as a runner. Perhaps the spread nature of Pittsburgh's offensive scheme with Ben Roethlisberger under center handicapped the young back. Either way, we will see how Harris responds to potentially becoming the focal point of a new-look Steelers squad that will be without its leader for the past two decades.
Jan 15, 2022
All set for Sunday
Harris (elbow), who was listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, no longer carries an injury designation and will be available for the playoff contest.
ANALYSIS
This was hardly a surprise given Harris was a full participant in Friday's practice. Given the pivotal nature of a playoff game, it would have been truly surprising to see the rookie unable to play, especially given his extensive workload this season. The rookie finished the 2021 season with 1,667 total yards on 381 total touches, easily the most among rookie ballcarriers in the last five years.
Jan 14, 2022
Questionable for wild-card game
Harris (elbow) was a full practice participant Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's wild-card game against the Chiefs, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Though players that close weeks as full participant don't typically get designations ahead of games, the Steelers appear to be exercising more caution with Harris since he didn't practice in any capacity Wednesday or Thursday. Even so, Harris told Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com before Friday's practice that he's feeling good after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection for his elbow, with most of the soreness he was experiencing having since subsided. As long as he didn't experience any setbacks with his elbow following his return to practice, the rookie will presumably be on the field for the postseason opener and ready to take on his usual three-down workload. While playing in all 17 of the Steelers' regular-season games, Harris was one of the NFL's most heavily-used backs with averages of 18.1 carries and 5.5 targets per contest.
Jan 13, 2022
Set to resume practicing Friday
Harris (elbow) remained a spectator for Thursday's practice, but head coach Mike Tomlin said the running back will be back on the field for Friday's session, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tomlin mentioned that how Harris fares in Friday's workout will be telling for the rookie's availability for Sunday's wild-card game in Kansas City. Harris proved supremely durable during the regular season, approaching each of the Steelers' 17 contests without an injury designation while finishing with a league-high 381 touches (307 carries, 74 catches). However, after injuring his elbow early in Pittsburgh's Week 18 win over Baltimore, Harris could be at risk of taking a questionable tag into the playoff opener if he's anything less than a full participant at Friday's practice.
Jan 12, 2022
Sits out Wednesday's practice
Harris (elbow) didn't practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike Tomlin previously indicated that Harris -- who suffered an elbow injury during this past weekend's win over the Ravens but was able to return to the game -- would likely take it slow to start the practice week, so the running back's Wednesday absence isn't surprising. His status will thus be worth monitoring ahead of Sunday night's playoff game against Kansas City, with Tomlin noting that the team will let Harris' "practice participation and how he feels be our guide as we get closer to game time." Benny Snell and Kalen Ballage are next up for added practice reps while Harris manages his elbow issue.
Jan 11, 2022
Elbow injury lingering
Coach Mike Tomlin said Harris' elbow injury is expected to "slow him in the early portion of the week" as the Steelers prepare for Sunday's wild-card game at Kansas City, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris got dinged up during the early stages of this past Sunday's eventual 16-13 overtime win at Baltimore but was able to gut out the issue, finishing with 15 touches for 55 yards on a season-low 53 percent share of offensive snaps. Tomlin's comments indicate Harris will be at least a limited participant Wednesday and may even kick off the week with a DNP, but where the running back stands by Friday will have more bearing on his availability for Sunday, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com. Benny Snell is the next player up in the Steelers backfield if Harris isn't his normal self this weekend.
Jan 9, 2022
Limited production in Week 18
Harris rushed 11 times for 28 yards while hauling in all four of his targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 16-13 OT win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Harris sustained an elbow injury in the first quarter of Sunday's regular-season finale but was able to play through the issue for most of the game. The 23-year-old struggled to generate much efficiency, but he helped lead the Steelers to the win -- and a likely postseason berth -- with a 15-yard run late in overtime. Harris appeared in all 17 games during the regular season of his rookie campaign, and he had 307 carries for 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns while securing 74 of 94 targets for 467 yards and three touchdowns.
Jan 3, 2022
Big game against Browns
Harris rushed 28 times for 188 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's 26-14 win over the Browns. He also caught all three of his targets for 18 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris fueled Pittsburgh's offense all evening, posting a new career high on the ground while setting the franchise's record for rookie rushing yards in a season along the way. The first-rounder put an exclamation point on Monday's victory with a 37-yard touchdown run on a third-and-two play with under a minute remaining, marking his longest play of the season. Following a dominant effort, Harris will strive to keep his momentum going in Week 18 versus the Ravens, when he'll surely be important in the Steelers' effort to still sneak into the playoffs.
Dec 26, 2021
Goes over 100 yards from scrimmage
Harris ran for 93 yards on 19 carries and caught five passes for 17 yards on seven targets against Kansas City on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Harris ran hard against the Chiefs defense despite getting let down by the offense around him, especially the Pittsburgh passing game. While the Steelers passing game is likely to continue struggling and the burden of that might continue falling disproportionately on Harris, he also has already shown the ability to produce despite the poor circumstances in a number of games this year. Even though his Week 17 matchup with Cleveland isn't easy on paper, Harris' high usage gives him a shot to stand out. Harris ran for 91 yards and one touchdown on 26 carries and added three receptions for 29 yards the first time he faced Cleveland.
Dec 19, 2021
Doesn't get going
Harris rushed the ball 12 times for 18 yards in Sunday's 19-13 win over Tennessee. He added two receptions for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris had trouble getting going throughout the game and was limited to fewer than 15 carries for only the fourth time this season. He came close to finding the end zone late in the third quarter but was denied just short of the goal line, only to have Ben Roethlisberger sneak in for a touchdown on the following play. Despite the fact that Harris has recorded multiple receptions in every game since Week 1, he's been held to 20 receiving yards or fewer in four of his last five contests.
Dec 10, 2021
Pair of touchdowns in win
Harris rushed 20 times for 94 yards and a touchdown and brought in all three targets for 10 yards and another score in the Steelers' 36-28 loss to the Vikings on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Harris, like the rest of the Steelers offense, got off to a completely forgettable start over the first two quarters. However, the rookie turned it around during a second half in which Pittsburgh nearly pulled off an improbable comeback, with Harris playing a key role by finding the end zone on a three-yard scoring grab and one-yard touchdown run in the third and fourth quarter, respectively. Harris has now exceeded 100 scrimmage yards in back-to-back contests, and his rushing yardage Thursday served as the third highest of his career thus far. The 2021 first-round pick's next chance to enhance his impressive resume comes versus the Titans in a Week 15 battle a week from Sunday.
Dec 5, 2021
Tops 100 yards from scrimmage
Harris rushed 21 times for 71 yards while hauling in all five of his targets for 36 yards in Sunday's 20-19 win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Harris had been limited to just 96 yards from scrimmage on 28 touches across the last two weeks, but he had plenty of volume in Sunday's narrow victory. The rookie has now topped 20 carries in four of his six appearances since Pittsburgh's Week 7 bye, but he's averaged just 3.4 yards per carry during that time. He'll face a more favorable opponent during next week's matchup against Minnesota.
Nov 28, 2021
11 touches in blowout loss
Harris rushed eight times for 23 yards and caught three of five targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Harris was victimized by another poor game script when the Steelers found themselves in a 31-3 hole at halftime. The rookie back has been steadily utilized as a receiver out of the backfield this season -- averaging 4.9 receptions per game heading into this contest -- but he wasn't able to gain traction in either facet of the offensive gameplan against Cincinnati. Harris is still the clear workhorse in Pittsburgh's backfield, so he should resume seeing higher usage rates if the team can simply keep games closer. They will attempt to do that in another important AFC North showdown against the Ravens next Sunday.
Nov 22, 2021
TD saves quiet game
Harris rushed 12 times for 39 yards and a touchdown while adding 20 yards on five receptions (six targets) in Sunday's 41-37 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Harris struggled to gain traction early in the contest, then fell victim to an unfavorable game script. The 12 carries were his second-lowest total this year, and the 4.0 yards per catch marked a new season low. Harris did have to briefly leave the game to be evaluated for a concussion in the fourth quarter, but he was quickly reinstated and finished the contest. Harris will look to bounce back in a crucial AFC North showdown against the Bengals next Sunday.
Nov 14, 2021
Totals 133 yards
Harris recorded 105 yards on 26 carries in Sunday's 16-16 tie against Detroit. He added four receptions on four targets for 28 yards.
ANALYSIS
Despite a dismal offensive performance overall, Harris was a bright spot for Pittsburgh. He topped 100 yards on the ground for the second time this season, highlighted by three rushes of 10 or more yards. Harris also turned in more than two receptions for the fourth consecutive game, effectively serving as a dump off option for Mason Rudolph. Harris has now topped 25 total touches in four consecutive games, and he will remain a focal point of the Steelers' offense in Week 11 against the Chargers.
Nov 12, 2021
Cleared for Week 10
Harris (foot) does not carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Lions after returning to a full practice Friday.
ANALYSIS
Harris was limited by a foot injury Thursday but was a full-go at practice Friday, which sets the stage for the running back, who is averaging 18.8 carries per game, to continue to head the Pittsburgh backfield in Week 10. In the process, Harris is looking at a favorable matchup, at home against an 0-8 Detroit team that has surrendered rushing yards at a clip of 134.5 per game thus far.
Nov 11, 2021
Added to injury report
Harris was limited at Thursday's practice due to a foot injury, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, this marks Harris' first appearance on the team's injury report this season and given that he worked fully Wednesday, it's possible the running back's foot issue is a product of Thursday's session. In any case, Harris' status is now worth monitoring as Sunday's game against the Lions approaches. Through eight games, the 2021 first-rounder has racked up 150 carries. In that span, no other Pittsburgh back has logged more than 10 carries.
Nov 8, 2021
Scores in Monday's victory
Harris rushed 22 times for 62 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's 29-27 win over the Bears. He also caught all three of his targets for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Harris opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run during the first quarter, helping his output on a night when he found little room to run. The rookie nonetheless got his usual heavy workload, accumulating at least 25 touches for the fourth straight game. Although his efficiency isn't always there, Harris' consistent usage and penchant for finding the end zone should continue to make him a strong option, and he's gifted with a favorable matchup in Week 10 versus the Lions.
Oct 31, 2021
Totals 120 yards in win
Harris had 26 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown while catching all three of his targets for 29 yards during Sunday's 15-10 win at Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
The rookie first-round pick continues to be a workhorse back for Pittsburgh, and he has at least 21 touches in each of the past five games. Harris has 622 yards from scrimmage and four scores during that span, and he should continue to power the Steelers' offense Week 9 against the Bears.
Oct 18, 2021
Workhorse in OT win
Harris rushed 24 times for 81 yards and caught six of seven targets for 46 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-20 overtime win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
It wasn't pretty, as the rookie back had to grind for nearly every yard in this contest (3.4 yards per carry). The sheer volume of touches Harris received (30 total) helped buoy the bruising back to a big fantasy output. The first-round pick from this year's draft has turned into quite the dual-threat right off the bat, contributing 34 receptions and two receiving scores through six games to go along with his solid rushing production. Harris and the rest of the Steelers will get to rest on the upcoming bye before taking on the Browns in Week 8.
Oct 13, 2021
Not on injury report
Harris isn't listed on Pittsburgh's Wednesday injury report, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This confirms it was merely cramping that forced Harris out of Sunday's 27-19 win over the Broncos. It's hard to blame him given that he saw a carry (23) or target (five) on 66.7 percent of his offensive snaps. The Steelers have scaled his playing time back a little bit since the 100 percent snap share Week 1, but Harris is still handling a three-down role and has clearly become more of a priority when he's on the field. He should be busy again Sunday night against the Seahawks.
Oct 10, 2021
122 rushing yards before exit
Harris carried 23 times for 122 yards and a TD in Sunday's 27-19 win over the Broncos, but he was forced out of the game in the fourth quarter with cramps and did not return, Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
ANALYSIS
Assuming no issues other than cramping are in play, Harris' Week 6 availability shouldn't be in any danger, though we'll track his status once the Steelers begin their prep for next Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Next up for the team's RB reps if Harris' practice reps end up impacted at all are Benny Snell and Kalen Ballage.
Oct 3, 2021
Records 21 touches in Week 4
Harris rushed 15 times for 62 yards and a touchdown while securing six of seven targets for 29 yards in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers' offense struggled to keep up with the Packers on Sunday, but the rookie remained heavily involved and tallied 91 yards from scrimmage while topping 20 touches for a second straight week. Harris bolstered his fantasy results with a one-yard touchdown rush in the fourth quarter, which marked the first rushing touchdown of his career. The 23-year-old faces a difficult matchup at home against the Broncos in Week 5, but he should continue to see plenty of work in Pittsburgh's offense.
Sep 26, 2021
Racks up 14 carries, 14 catches
Harris rushed 14 times for 40 yards and caught 14 of 19 targets for 102 yards in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Harris was heavily involved as a pass-catcher with Diontae Johnson (knee) out and JuJu Smith-Schuster (ribs) leaving the game early. The Steelers' struggling offensive line hasn't opened many holes for Harris (3.1 yards per carry through three games), but the rookie first-round pick is starting to capitalize on their blocking struggles in the passing game as a check down option. Harris' only touchdown through three weeks has also come as a pass-catcher, and he should continue to see massive volume as both a runner and receiver in Week 4 against the Packers given his three-down role.
Sep 19, 2021
Salvages day as receiver
Harris carried the ball 10 times for 38 yards in Sunday's Week 2 loss to the Raiders. He also added five receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Harris continued to dominate the work out of Pittsburgh's backfield, as he accounted for 10 of the team's 14 total rush attempts. However, game script limited him in that role. He did manage to make up for his lack of production on the ground with good production as a pass-catcher, highlighted by a 25-yard touchdown reception at the beginning of the fourth quarter. While Harris ended up being productive enough in the box score, his inability to work efficiently as a rusher is becoming a concern as he now has 26 rush attempts for 83 yards across two games.

Solid workload in Week 1 win
Harris rushed 16 times for 45 yards and brought in one of three targets for four yards in the Steelers' 23-16 win over the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Harris' pro debut certainly didn't offer any jump-off-the-page numbers, but the rookie's workload was certainly encouraging. Harris was the only Steelers running back to log a carry on the afternoon, and although he only brought in one of his three targets, the fact he was involved in the air attack to a serviceable extent by running back standards was also a positive. The lack of running room for the Alabama product wasn't necessarily a surprise given the matchup against the talented Bills front, and the rookie could well have a much softer task when he sees the Raiders at home in Week 2.

Won't play in exhibition finale
Coach Mike Tomlin said Harris will not suit up for Friday's preseason contest against the Panthers, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tomlin's initial plan was to have Harris suit up for all four of Pittsburgh's preseason games, but the rookie first-round pick already appears to have proven all he needed to. The Steelers will instead sit Harris, along with a number of other starters, in order to guarantee his health for the regular-season opener against Buffalo on Sept. 12. Harris was quiet on the ground during last Saturday's exhibition matchup against the Lions, with just four carries for 10 yards, but he showcased his receiving chops by securing two of three targets for 53 yards, including an impressive 46-yard catch-and-run.

Shines as receiver in win
Harris rushed four times for 10 yards and secured two of three targets for 53 yards in the Steeles' 26-20 preseason win over the Lions on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
The rookie first-round pick was quiet on the ground for the second straight exhibition, but he flashed his excellent hands and speed in space with a 46-yard catch-and-run off a crossing pattern shortly after the halfway point of the first quarter, getting the ball down to the Lions' 12-yard line to kick off a drive that would culminate in Pat Freiermuth's second touchdown catch of the night. Harris has been used sparingly overall with an eye on keeping him healthy come Week 1, but by all accounts, he's been as good as advertised in camp and has already demonstrated his elite physical skills on a handful of plays this preseason. Having already logged action in the team's first three exhibition contests, it's very possible Harris sits for the preseason finale against the Panthers on Friday.

Three touches against Philly
Harris rushed twice for 10 yards and caught one of two targets for nine yards in Thursday's 24-16 win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike Tomlin said he wouldn't cap Harris' reps in this one, but the rookie first-round pick got only three touches after racking up 25 yards on eight touches last week. Harris is yet to produce a play of double-digit yards, but he should make up for a lack of big plays with volume once the games start to count. The Alabama product will likely see more action in next week's preseason clash with the Lions.

To get significant work Thursday
Coach Mike Tomlin noted Tuesday that he won't cap Harris' reps during Thursday's preseason contest at Philadelphia, Dale Lolley of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harris saw the field for the Steelers' first three possessions of last Thursday's Hall of Fame Game, earning 18 of a possible 19 snaps. While his final line looks somewhat pedestrian -- seven carries for 22 yards and one catch (on one target) for three yards -- it's a bit more respectable when discounting a rush of minus-four yards on his second-to-last touch (4.3 yards on six carries). It remains to be seen what exactly Tomlin means when he says he "has no plans to hold Harris back," but a half of work seems like a reasonable expectation.

Impressive in pro debut
Harris rushed seven times for 22 yards and secured his only target for three yards during the Steelers' 16-3 preseason win over the Cowboys in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.
ANALYSIS
The rookie first-round pick, who's slated to see action in all four preseason games according to head coach Mike Tomlin, got a solid allotment of work in Thursday's contest, beginning with the Steelers' opening drive. Harris looked impressive while churning out a pair of five- and six-yard gains apiece over the three possessions he participated in, and his remaining unproductive runs appeared to largely be the result of subpar blocking. Pittsburgh unsurprisingly played things fairly close to the vest on offense in its opening exhibition, but there's been plenty of rumblings about Harris potentially being split out wide at times during the regular season in order to capitalize on his above-average receiving skills.

Set to see preseason action
Coach Mike Tomlin said that he plans to play Harris in all four of the Steelers' preseason games, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette reports. "He's a rookie," Tomlin said of the team's new top back. "He needs the process of game preparation and to ultimately play. We have four opportunities for him to do that and we're going to make sure he participates in all four of those processes."
ANALYSIS
Based on that comment and Tomlin's assertion that the team will focus on pre-game "preparation process" for the No. 24 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, it remains to be seen how many snaps/carries Harris might see in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game against Dallas. As a rookie, the Alabama product has an immediate path to fantasy utility during the regular season, but we suspect that even if he does suit up for all of Pittsburgh's exhibition contests, the team will likely manage Harris' exposure to contact.
