Impactful in Week 10 win
Dean tallied seven tackles (six solo), including 1.0 sacks, and forced a fumble Monday in a 10-7 victory against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Neither team could get much offense going, as the contest was largely dominated by defense. Dean came up with a huge play late in the second quarter, sacking Jordan Love after the Packers had reached field-goal range and forcing a fumble that was recovered by Philadelphia. Both the sack and the forced fumble were the first of the season for Dean, who missed the first five games of the campaign due to a knee injury. His seven stops Monday represented a season-high mark.
Oct 30, 2025
Role continues to expand
Dean finished with five tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 38-20 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The inside linebacker also played on a season-high 33 defensive snaps in his third game since returning from a torn left patellar tendon. Dean has 11 tackles (seven solo) across his last two games. While Philadelphia is still figuring it out its linebacker rotation, Dean made 128 tackles (80 solo) in the 2024 regular season and should remain in the mix.
Oct 10, 2025
Limited role in season debut
Dean played six snaps on special teams in Thursday's 34-17 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Dean made his season debut after recovering from a torn left patellar tendon. The Eagles seemingly eased him into action, and he should eventually return to at least a partial role alongside fellow linebackers Zack Baun and rookie Jihaad Campbell.
Oct 9, 2025
All set for Week 6
Dean (knee) is active for Thursday night's matchup with the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Dean will make his season debut after missing the first five games of the year while recovering from a torn left patellar tendon that he suffered in January. The linebacker recorded 128 total tackles (80 solo), including 3.0 sacks, while also adding an interception, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries over 15 regular-season games last year.
Oct 9, 2025
Activated from PUP list Thursday
Dean (knee) was activated from the reserve/PUP list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Dean's activation makes him eligible to play Thursday night against the Giants, though he's still listed as questionable. A determination on his status will likely be made around 90 minutes prior to Thursday's 8:15 ET kickoff. He has yet to make his 2025 season debut after recording 128 tackles in a breakout 2024 regular season.
Oct 8, 2025
Could return Thursday
Dean (knee) is listed as questionable ahead of Thursday night's matchup against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The Georgia product logged another full practice Wednesday but must still be activated to the Eagles' active roster in order to play Thursday night. If Dean is activated in time for the Week 6 divisional matchup, he's likely to serve as Philadelphia's top reserve inside linebacker, playing behind Zack Baun and rookie Jihaad Campbell.
Oct 7, 2025
Estimated as full participant
The Eagles listed Dean (knee) as a full participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report.
ANALYSIS
Dean is in the final stages of his recovery from a torn left patellar tendon that he suffered during the Eagles' 2024 postseason run. He has been estimated as a full practice participant for the Eagles' two walkthrough practices this week, but his participation in Wednesday's session will shed light on his chances of making his 2025 debut against the Giants on Thursday.
Oct 6, 2025
Considered full participant Monday
Dean (knee) was listed as a full participant on Monday's estimated injury report.
ANALYSIS
Dean has been slowly working his way back from a torn left patellar tendon that he suffered in the postseason, and he has now logged back-to-back full participations dating back to Friday's injury report. The linebacker will have two more chances to officially log another full practice before Thursday's matchup with the Giants.
Oct 3, 2025
Won't be activated for Week 5
Dean (knee) will not be activated from the reserve/PUP list for Sunday's matchup against the Broncos, Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The Georgia product was a limited participant in practice both Wednesday and Thursday, but he'll remain out for the Week 5 contest. Dean had an impressive 2024 campaign, tallying 128 total tackles, including 3.0 sacks, and four passes defended over 15 regular-season games. While he remains sidelined, expect Jihaad Campbell and Zack Baun to start in the Eagles' inside-linebacker corps.
Oct 1, 2025
Limited on Wednesday
Dean (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Dean was designated for return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday, opening his 21-day practice window. He said he feels he can "fully go" now after suffering a torn patellar tendon in the Eagles' wild-card playoff win back in January. However, Dean's role is unclear upon his return, considering the presence of Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell at linebacker for the Eagles.
Oct 1, 2025
Designated to return
Dean (knee) was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The 2022 third-round pick out of Georgia has missed Philadelphia's opening four games this season due to a knee injury sustained in a wild-card win over the Packers in January. He now has 21 days to be added to the Eagles' active roster before reverting to the reserve/PUP list. It's unclear whether Dean will reclaim his starting spot once healthy, as rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell has impressed through his first four games as a pro.
Sep 30, 2025
Closing in on return
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said Tuesday that Dean (knee) will return to practice "either this week or next," Jimmy Kempski of the PhillyVoice reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean opened the season on the reserve/PUP list while continuing to recover from a torn left patellar tendon that he suffered during the Eagles' NFC wild-card win over the Packers in January. He is eligible to have his practice window open this week, and once that happens, the Eagles will have 21 days to reinstate Dean from the PUP list. The 2022 third-rounder is still a long shot to play in the Eagles' Week 5 clash against the Broncos on Sunday, but he could be available for Week 6 against the Giants on Thursday, Oct. 9.
Aug 26, 2025
Opening season on PUP list
Dean (knee) was moved to the reserve/PUP list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Dean will now be forced to miss at least the first four games of the 2025 campaign as he continues to recover from the torn left patellar tendon he sustained in the Eagles' wild-card win over the Packers in January. The 24-year-old took a massive step forward in his third season with Philadelphia in 2024, compiling 128 total tackles (80 solo), including 3.0 sacks, while also adding an interception, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries over 15 regular-season contests. Once healthy, Dean figures to start alongside Zack Baun at interior linebacker for the second straight season.
Jul 23, 2025
Not on field to start camp
Dean (knee) was placed on the active/PUP list Wednesday, Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice reports.
ANALYSIS
Heading into his fourth NFL season Dean is still recovering from the torn patellar tendon he suffered during Philadelphia's first-round playoff game against the Packers and is the only Eagle to start training camp on the active/PUP list. The 24-year-old had by far his most productive year last season, totalling 128 tackles and three sacks. However, first-round pick Jihaad Campbell (shoulder) was active and practicing in limited fashion during the first day of training camp, recovering quicker than expected from a torn labrum he had surgery on in March. With the starting linebackers undetermined, this news could give Campbell some helpful reps early on as Dean watches from the sideline.
Jun 3, 2025
Not close to returning
Eagles DC Vic Fangio said Tuesday that Dean (knee) "won't be back for awhile," Andrew DiCecco of InsideTheBirds.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean tore the patellar tendon in his left knee during the Eagles' wild-card win over the Packers back in January and faces a lengthy recovery process. With Dean's absence likely to extend into the regular season, Philly used its first-round pick on Jihaad Campbell (shoulder) to pair with Zack Baun at inside linebacker, though Campbell is recovering from surgery of his own to repair a torn labrum.
Jan 14, 2025
Moved to IR
Dean (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
This was an expected move, as Dean tore the patellar tendon in his left knee in Sunday's wild-card win over the Packers and is set for season-ending surgery. He had been a starter at inside linebacker for the Eagles throughout the campaign, and that role will now likely go to Oren Burks. With Dean moved to IR, wide receiver Parris Campbell was signed to fill the Eagles' open roster spot, and the team also inked linebacker Nicholas Morrow to a practice-squad contract.
Jan 13, 2025
Season over
Dean suffered a torn patellar tendon in his knee during Sunday's wild-card win over the Packers and is out for the remainder of the playoffs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean's absence in the middle of the Eagles' defense will be a big blow moving forward for the team. The Georgia product had a breakout third season, recording 128 combined tackles, 3.0 sacks, and four passes defended, including an interception. In his absence, Oren Burks will be called upon to step up as Philadelphia moves onto the divisional round. Although a timeline for Dean's recovery is not yet available, he may have to miss the start of next season.
Jan 12, 2025
Done for rest of Sunday
Dean (knee) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's NFC wild-card game versus the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Dean went down with a knee injury in the second quarter, ultimately requiring a cart to get to the locker room. The linebacker compiled a team-high six total tackles before leaving the game. In the his absence, Oren Burks and Jeremiah Trotter will see an uptick in usage at interior linebacker.
Jan 8, 2025
Past abdominal injury
Dean (abdomen) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Dean was held out of the Eagles' regular-season finale against the Giants this past Sunday in order to have more time to recover from an abdominal injury. Barring any setbacks this week, Dean should be at full health for Sunday's NFC wild-card game against Green Bay. The 2022 third-round pick ended the regular season with a career-best 128 tackles (80 solo), including 3.0 sacks, four pass defenses (including one interception), two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble across 15 games.
Jan 5, 2025
Inactive for Week 18
Dean (abdomen) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
An abdominal injury forced Dean to miss his first game of the regular season in Week 17 against the Cowboys. He was a full participant in practice this week, and he likely would've played if the Eagles had something to play for. However, Philadelphia is locked in as the No. 2 seed in the NFC, so Dean and a handful of other starters will not participate in Sunday's regular-season finale. The 2022 third-round pick will finish his third NFL regular season with 128 tackles (80 solo), including 3.0 sacks, four pass defenses (including one interception), one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries across 15 games. With Dean and Zack Baun (coach's decision) both inactive for Week 18, Jeremiah Trotter and Oren Burks will start at inside linebacker while Dallas Gant provides rotational depth.
Jan 3, 2025
Unlikely to play vs. Giants
Dean (coach's decision) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
An abdominal injury prevented Dean from playing against the Cowboys in Week 17. He was a full participant in all three practice sessions this week, but with the Eagles locked in as the No. 2 seed in the NFC, he'll likely be held out of Sunday's game in order to get some additional rest heading into the playoffs. Oren Burks and Jeremiah Trotter are slated to serve as Philadelphia's starting inside linebacker duo due to the anticipated absences of Dean and Zack Baun (coach's decision).
Jan 1, 2025
Full participant in walkthrough
Dean (abdomen) was estimated as a full practice participant during Wednesday's walkthrough.
ANALYSIS
Dean was sidelined for the Eagles' Week 17 win over the Cowboys due to an abdominal injury. His full participation in Wednesday's walkthrough indicates that the 2022 third-round pick could be healthy enough to play in the Eagles' regular-season finale against the Giants on Sunday. However, he could be held out of the contest due to Philadelphia being locked in as the NFC's No. 2 seed for the playoffs.
Dec 29, 2024
Not playing Week 17
Dean (abdomen) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Dean's absence became expected Friday when he was deemed doubtful to suit up. The third-year linebacker will miss his first game of the campaign despite being able to log a limited practice session both Thursday and Friday. Jeremiah Trotter or Oren Burks will likely start Sunday in Dean's stead.
Dec 27, 2024
Unlikely to play Week 17
Dean (abdomen) is doubtful to suit up against the Cowboys on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Dean logged his usual hefty snap count last Sunday against the Commanders and tied a season high with 12 tackles, but he appeared on Philadelphia's estimated injury report as a non-participant with an abdominal issue Wednesday. The third-year linebacker upgraded to a limited session both Thursday and Friday, but it appears he'll nonetheless miss his first game of the campaign. Either Jeremiah Trotter or Oren Burks could be asked to start if Dean is indeed unable to play against Dallas.
Dec 26, 2024
Upgrades to LP on Thursday
Dean (abdomen) was a limited participant in practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Dean was estimated as a non-participant Wednesday, though the Eagles didn't actually hold a practice that day. His LP status Thursday therefore represents an upgrade, but his likelihood of playing Sunday against Dallas remains in question. Dean has been a tackle machine of late, recording double-digit stops in each of his past four contests.
Dec 25, 2024
Listed as DNP Wednesday
Dean (abdomen) was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's practice estimate.
ANALYSIS
Dean pooped up on the injury report Wednesday after having racked up 12 tackles (six solo) during the team's Week 16 loss versus the Commanders. If he ends up being unable to play Sunday versus the Cowboys, Jeremiah Trotter would likely get the start at inside linebacker alongside Zack Baun in Dean's place.
Dec 23, 2024
Leading tackler vs. Commanders
Dean recorded 12 total tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 36-33 loss to the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
The Georgia product has now tallied double-digit stops in five of his last six games, accumulating 62 total tackles during that span. Dean has had an impressive campaign in his first full season as a starter, ranking second on the Eagles' defense in total tackles (128) and third in both tackles for loss (nine) and interceptions (one) over 15 appearances. He's expected to remain one of Philadelphia's top inside linebackers, starting alongside Zack Baun in the Week 17 matchup against the Cowboys.
Dec 18, 2024
Leads Eagles in tackles again
Dean finished this past Sunday's 27-13 win over the Steelers with 10 tackles (seven solo) and one forced fumble.
ANALYSIS
Dean has reached double-digit combined tackles six times, four of which have come over the past five regular-season games. He's now up to 116 tackles (74 solo), including 3.0 sacks, four pass defenses (including one interception), one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries across 14 games. The 2022 third-round pick will look to add to his total during Sunday's NFC East clash against the Commanders.
Dec 10, 2024
Leading tackler in win
Dean recorded 12 tackles (nine solo) during Sunday's 22-16 win versus the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Dean managed double-digit tackles for the second straight game in Week 14, and he has now posted 10-plus tackles in five contests this season. He also eclipsed 100 tackles on the year with Sunday's performance. He'll be looking to keep adding to his career-best campaign in Week 15 versus the Steelers.
Dec 3, 2024
Racks up 10 tackles Sunday
Dean recorded 10 tackles (five solo) during Sunday's 24-19 win at Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Dean played 69 of the Eagles' 71 defensive snaps in Week 13, and he came away with a double-digit tackle total for the fourth time this season. He's in the midst of a breakout season and profiles as a strong IDP option for when Philadelphia hosts the Panthers in Week 14.
Nov 25, 2024
All over field in win
Dean recorded eight tackles (five solo), including 1.0 sacks and an additional tackle for a loss, and a fumble recovery in Sunday's 37-20 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
The starting inside linebacker dealt with a groin injury during the practice week leading up to the game but was a full participant by Thursday's session. Dean, a 2022 third-round pick, continued his career-best season with his big night: He now has 84 tackles (53 solo), including 3.0 sacks, four pass breakups, including an interception, and two fumble recoveries in 2024.
Nov 21, 2024
Past groin injury
Dean (groin) was a full practice participant Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Dean was limited in Wednesday's practice due to a groin injury, but that didn't hold him back during Thursday's session. Barring any setbacks, the 2022 third-round pick should be good to go against the Rams on Sunday. In the six regular-season games since the Eagles' Week 5 bye, Dean has logged 50 tackles (31 solo), including 2.0 sacks, three pass defenses (including one interception) and one fumble recovery.
Nov 20, 2024
Still working through groin injury
Dean (groin) was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's practice report.
ANALYSIS
Dean played through a groin injury during the Eagles' Week 11 win over the Commanders, during which he tallied 10 tackles (eight solo) and a pass defensed. The 2022 third-round pick will have two more chances this week to increase his practice participation ahead of Sunday's game against the Rams.
Nov 18, 2024
Posts 10 tackles in win
Dean recorded 10 tackles (eight solo) and a pass defensed during Thursday's 26-18 win versus the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Dean rotated out for just three defensive snaps in Week 11, and he managed double digits in the tackle column for the third time this season. He's safely on pace for his first 100-tackle season headed into Week 12, when the Eagles will travel to take on the Rams.
Nov 13, 2024
Ready to rock
Dean (groin) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Dean upgraded to full participation Wednesday after opening the Eagles' week of practice with an estimated DNP, so it appears he's moved past his groin issue in time for Thursday night's divisional matchup against the Commanders. The Georgia product has recorded 66 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and defended three passes through the Eagles' first nine games this season. He's expected to start alongside Zack Baun in Philadelphia's linebacker corps in Week 11.
Nov 12, 2024
Upgraded to limited Tuesday
Dean (groin) was listed as a limited participant on Tuesday's practice estimation.
ANALYSIS
Dean was estimated as a DNP on Monday, but he was able to upgrade his participation during Tuesday's walkthrough. Wednesday's practice will provide a clearer picture of his status heading into Thursday night's game against the Commanders. In the five games since the Eagles' Week 5 bye, Dean has logged 40 tackles (23 solo), including 2.0 sacks, two pass defenses (including one interception) and one fumble recovery.
Nov 11, 2024
Estimated as DNP
Dean (groin) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimation.
ANALYSIS
Dean played 40 defensive snaps and recorded six total tackles in Sunday's blowout win over the Cowboys; however, Monday's estimated DNP suggests he picked up a groin injury in the process. The Georgia product likely needs to upgrade to at least limited participation either Tuesday or Wednesday in order to suit up for Thursday night's matchup against the Commanders.
Nov 4, 2024
Seals win with pick
Dean recorded two solo tackles, two pass breakups and a game-clinching interception in Sunday's 28-23 win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS

The 2022 third-round pick out of Georgia already has set career highs in nearly every major statistical category in 2024 with 60 tackles (37 solo), including 2.0 sacks, three passes defensed, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Oct 28, 2024
Posts another solid line
Dean recorded nine tackles (seven solo) and a fumble recovery during Sunday's 37-17 win at Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
Dean has now posted at least seven tackles in all of his last six games, putting him on pace for well over 100 over the course of an entire season. He'll profile as a solid IDP play in Week 9 when Philadelphia hosts the Jaguars.
Oct 21, 2024
Another double-digit tackle outing
Dean recorded 11 total tackles (six solo), including 2.0 sacks, in Sunday's 28-3 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old has now racked up 23 total tackles across Philadelphia's last two games, bringing his season total to 49 tackles. Dean had also never recorded a full sack before Sunday's win, taking down Daniel Jones in the second and third quarters. The third-year pro from Georgia appears to be settling into the Eagles' top inside linebacker role and is expected to continue making plays in Week 8's matchup against the Bengals.
Oct 14, 2024
Makes 12 tackles in win
Dean recorded 12 tackles (seven solo) in the Eagles' 20-16 win over the Browns on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The inside linebacker did not appear to be impacted by the ankle injury that made him a limited participant in the Wednesday practice session during the week leading up to the game. Dean also played on 96 percent of Philadelphia's defensive snaps. The third-year pro already has a career-high 38 tackles through five games.
Oct 11, 2024
Past ankle issue
Dean (ankle) was a full participant in Friday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Dean upgraded to full participation in Friday's practice after logging limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday, indicating that he's moved past his ankle injury in time for Sunday's matchup against the Browns. Expect the third-year pro to start alongside Zack Baun as part of Philadelphia's top inside linebacker duo in Week 6.
Oct 9, 2024
Limited to open week
Dean (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice session.
ANALYSIS
The Eagles are coming off a bye, so it's not clear whether Dean picked up the ankle injury during Week 4 against the Buccaneers or afterwards. Regardless, Dean could avoid an injury designation heading into Week 6 against the Browns if he's able to practice in full Thursday or Friday. The 2022 third-round pick has 26 tackles (17 solo) and one pass defended through four regular-season games.
Sep 23, 2024
Active in win
Dean recorded eight tackles (three solo), including one for a loss, in the Eagles' 15-12 win over the Saints on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Dean also played 98 percent of the defensive snaps with Devin White a healthy scratch for Philadelphia. The third-year pro has played on at least 95 percent of the Eagles' defensive snaps in all three games this season, recording 19 tackles (12 solo) and a pass defensed. The Georgia product made a combined 43 tackles across his first two seasons.
Sep 4, 2024
Confirmed starter
Dean will be the Eagles' starting MIKE linebacker against the Packers on Friday,Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean earned the role earlier in training camp, so Devin White's absence due to an ankle injury did not play into the decision. The Georgia product was supposed to handle a starting role last year; however, a foot injury derailed his sophomore campaign. Dean could be primed for a breakout campaign if he can stay healthy this season.
May 22, 2024
Past foot issue
Dean (foot) was a full participant in Eagles' OTAs on Wednesday, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean had an injury-riddled year last season, headlined by a foot issue that forced him to miss the final seven games of Philadelphia's 2023 campaign. Now that he's back and participating fully in the Eagles' OTAs, it seems as if he's moved past his foot injury. Across his two seasons in the NFL, Dean has appeared in 22 games and tallied 43 total tackles, including three tackles for loss, while playing 216 defensive snaps. The Georgia product is expected to be one of Philadelphia's top inside linebackers heading into the 2024 season.
Apr 18, 2024
Nearing return
Dean (foot) said Thursday that he's been out of his walking boot since February, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean has been dealing with a foot injury that forced him to miss Philadelphia's final seven games last season, but it sounds like he could be returning to the field soon. Dean logged 30 total tackles, including 0.5 sacks throughout his five appearances in 2023, and the 23-year-old is expected to remain one of the Philadelphia's top inside linebackers once his recovery from Lisfranc surgery is complete.
Jan 17, 2024
Still in boot, could return by OTAs
Dean said Wednesday that he still has three weeks left of wearing a walking boot after having Lisfranc surgery on his left foot, and it remains to be seen whether he will be healthy in time to participate in OTAs, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean didn't play after Week 10 due to the injury. Even if he isn't available by OTAs, the 2022 third-round draft pick should be healthy well before the start of the 2024 season. After playing primarily on special teams as a rookie, Dean started at linebacker in four of his five appearances in 2023.
Nov 16, 2023
Officially placed on IR
Dean (foot) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The second-year linebacker out of Georgia was diagnosed with a Lisfranc sprain after leaving the Eagles' Week 10 win over the Cowboys, so it's no surprise that he's been placed on IR. Dean missed time earlier in the season with a foot issue, but he's started four of the five games that he's appeared in thus far, recording 30 total tackles, including two tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks. Nicholas Morrow and Zach Cunningham are expected to see an uptick in work on Philadelphia's defense with Dean missing at least the next four games.
Nov 8, 2023
Likely to be placed on IR
Dean (foot) was diagnosed with a Lisfranc sprain and likely will be placed on injured reserve, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Eagles have no reason to rush the transaction heading into a bye week, as it would rule Dean out for the next four games. He's seeing a foot specialist to determine a course of action, with the most likely outcome a stint on IR that would rule him out through Week 14. The second-year pro has played 30 or more snaps in four of his five appearances this season, and he previously missed Weeks 2-5 with a foot injury. Nicholas Morrow and Zach Cunningham are left as Philadelphia's top off-ball linebackers.
Nov 5, 2023
Sustains foot injury
Dean has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against Dallas due to a foot injury.
ANALYSIS
Dean missed the start of the 2023 campaign due to a foot injury but made his season debut in mid-October. He tallied three tackles (one solo), including half a sack, during Sunday's matchup but will be unavailable for most of the second half. The 2022 third-rounder will have additional time to recover since the Eagles have a Week 10 bye.
Oct 30, 2023
Season-high tackles in win
Dean recorded 12 tackles (11 solo) in Sunday's 38-31 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Dean was able to notch a season-high in tackles, leading the team in their Week 8 victory. The linebacker has registered 26 takedowns while appearing in four games so far in his sophomore campaign.
Oct 13, 2023
Ready to return
Dean (foot) has been cleared to make his season debut in Sunday's matchup with the Jets, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean logged a pair of limited practice sessions after being designated to return from IR before practicing in full Friday. He seemingly had no setbacks and now carries no injury designation ahead of Week 6. His return means he is ready to enter Philly's linebacker rotation assuming he avoids any setbacks.
Oct 11, 2023
Limited in practice return
Dean (foot) returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant.
ANALYSIS
The Eagles designated Dean to return from injured reserve Tuesday, opening a 21-day window in which he can practice without being activated to the roster. He seemingly expects to be active much sooner than that, telling reporters Wednesday that he's almost back to 100 percent strength, Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. He opened the season as an intriguing IDP in a three-down role and could still make good on that promise at some point in October -- possibly as soon as this Sunday against the Jets.
Oct 10, 2023
Designated to return from IR
The Eagles designated Dean (foot) to return from injured reserve Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The move officially opens Dean's 21-day practice window after he missed the required four games on injured reserve. The second-year linebacker played 49 defensive snaps in Week 1 before going down with his foot injury. Once activated, Dean should return to his starting gig alongside Zach Cunningham.
Oct 4, 2023
Working out Wednesday
Dean (foot) participated in agility and footwork drills Wednesday, Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean was sent to Philadelphia's injured reserve list after sustaining a foot injury in Week 1 at New England, meaning he'll first be eligible to be reactivated after Sunday's game at the Rams. Him working out at this point is an encouraging sign that he may be activated soon after then.
Sep 12, 2023
Heads to IR
Dean (foot) was placed on Philadelphia's injured reserve list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Dean suffered a foot injury during the team's 25-20 win against New England this past Sunday. Philadelphia's starting middle linebacker was seen in a walking boot after the game and has since been placed on IR. The 22-year-old will now be forced to miss at least the next four weeks of the season.
Sep 11, 2023
Multi-week absence ahead
Dean (foot) is expected to miss multiple weeks due to the injury he suffered in Sunday's win over the Patriots, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean recorded seven tackles (four solo) before exiting with the injury. in a separate tweet, Rapoport speculated the second-year-pro may be headed to IR, which if a multi-week absence is certain, would make sense. The specifics of the Georgia products injury are still unknown though, other than he was seen in a walking boot after the game. While Dean is sidelined, Christian Elliss and Nolan Smith will both be in contention for an increased role beginning Thursday against the Vikings.
Sep 10, 2023
Seen in walking boot
Dean (foot) was seen in a walking boot following Sunday's win over the Patriots, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean sustained a foot injury during Sunday's season-opening win, and while his exact diagnosis isn't yet known, it isn't encouraging to see him in a walking boot after the game, especially with the Eagles facing a short week ahead of Thursday's game against the Vikings. If he's unavailable in Week 2, Christian Elliss and Nolan Smith could see increased roles.

Questionable to return
Dean is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Patriots due to a foot injury, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean had a solid performance to begin Sunday's matchup, tallying seven tackles (four solo). However, it's unclear whether he'll be available for the final few minutes of the matchup. If he remains sidelined down the stretch, Christian Elliss and Nolan Smith are candidates to see increased playing time.

Ramps up activity
Dean (ankle) logged a full practice Thursday, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean missed a few days due to the injury but then was able to return in a limited fashion Wednesday. His ability to get in a full practice should mean he's fully recovered, which is good news for the Georgia product, as he looks to earn the starting middle linebacker job in camp.

Returns in limited fashion
Dean (ankle) logged a limited practice Wednesday, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean didn't practice Friday and was considered day-to-day regarding his return; however, his ability to return to practice is good news. Even if he's not quite ready to participate in full. The second-year pro is working to earn the starting middle-linebacker job and has some competition there after the Eagles signed Myles Jack on Sunday.

Day-to-day with ankle injury
Dean (ankle) isn't practicing Friday, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean is listed as day-to-day, so his absence is unlikely to be an extended one. It wouldn't be surprising to see him sit out the Aug. 12 preseason opener against the Ravens, even if Dean is fully recovered by then, as the 2022 third-round pick is slated to move into a starting linebacker spot after being used in a reserve role as a rookie.

Preparing for more significant role
Dean is adjusting to his new role as the starting middle linebacker, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
Dean only played 33 snaps on defense last season, although he was a regular on the team's special-teams unit. Now, in his second season and after the departures of T.J. Edwards and Kyzir White, Dean will see a significant shift in responsibilities. Not only will he see the field much more frequently, but he'll also be taking on play-calling duties as the MIKE linebacker in the Eagles' defense.

Ready for larger role
Dean expects to play a lot more in 2023 than he did in 2022, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
A third-round pick last spring, Dean took 340 snaps on special teams but only 34 on defense as a rookie, stuck behind a trio of linebackers (T.J. Edwards, Kyzir White, Haason Reddick) that all played 17 games. Edwards and White signed elsewhere this offseason, leaving nearly 2,000 off-ball-linebacker snaps that likely will be filled by some combination of Dean, seventh-year pro Nicholas Morrow and rookie first-round pick Nolan Smith. Dean and Smith are two of the five Eagles who were part of Georgia's dominant 2021 defense, joined by CB Kelee Ringo and DTs Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. When it comes to IDP value, Dean has a chance to take over the three-down role in which Edwards finished last season tied for seventh among linebackers in tackles (159) and pass defenses (seven).

Limited to special teams as rookie
Dean appeared in all 17 regular-season contests and posted 13 tackles across 670 total snaps (33 defensive).
ANALYSIS
The rookie third-round pick operated mostly on special teams during his first NFL campaign. If T.J. Edwards opts to leave in free agency this summer, Dean could step into a starting role in Year 2, but if Edwards returns, it may be hard for the Georgia product to find playing time in 2023.

Logs five tackles
Dean recorded six tackles (five solo) and one pass defensed in Sunday's 35-10 victory over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Dean had not recorded more than one tackle in any other game this season, so this was certainly his most impactful outing. He was only on the field for 15 snaps (27 percent), but actually recorded five of his tackles during that span. The 21-year-old also on the field for all 23 special-teams plays.

Seeing third-string reps
Dean (pectoral) slotted in at linebacker with the third-team defense during Philadelphia's practice Monday, John McMullen of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie practiced alongside second-year linebacker JaCoby Stevens while Davion Taylor and Shaun Bradley saw action with the Eagles' second-string defense Monday. Dean was unable to participate in the combine ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft due to a pectoral injury, but he appears to be over this medical red flag given his participation in the Eagles' training camp thus far. The Butkus Award winner out of Georgia will have to prove himself at middle linebacker this preseason, however, as four-year veteran T.J. Edwards appears to be locked in as the starter at this position so far in training camp, according to McMullen.

Slide stops in Philly
The Eagles selected Dean (pectoral) in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 83rd overall.
ANALYSIS
Dean's slide became the story of Day 2 of the NFL Draft as the Georgia linebacker was expected to be an early second-round selection at worst. However, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that teams had medical red flags related to a pectoral injury that prevented him from participating at the combine. If the medicals prove to be a non-issue, this is a strong value pick for Philadelphia. Dean was the quarterback of one of the best college football defenses in recent history. His film showed that he is quick to diagnose plays and has the closing speed to find the ball carrier and finish plays. Dean is on the smaller side for an inside linebacker at 6-foot and 225 pounds, but his football IQ and athleticism will help get him on the field once healthy.
