Four stops in loss
Martin recorded four total tackles (one solo) in Sunday's 16-13 overtime loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Martin played just 65 percent of the team's defensive snaps, leading to his lowest amount of solo stops since Week 4. Backup safety Darnell Savage was on the field for 26 snaps on defense, his highest total since Week 7, potentially siphoning off some of Martin's workload. Martin has now compiled 71 total tackles (38 solo), two passes defensed and a forced fumble over 11 contests this season.
Nov 14, 2025
Good to go for Week 11
Martin (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Martin upgraded to full participation at Friday's practice after a pair of limited sessions. He'll occupy his usual starting free safety role Sunday in Madrid.
Nov 12, 2025
Tending to shoulder issue
Martin (shoulder) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Martin tied for a team lead in tackles (9) over 69 defensive snaps in Week 10 versus the Lions, and it's not immediately obvious when he suffered the shoulder injury. He will get two more shots to manage a full practice prior to the Commanders' last practice report of the week being published Friday.
Nov 11, 2025
Totals nine stops in Week 10 loss
Martin finished with nine tackles (three solo) Sunday in a loss to Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Martin and Bobby Wagner each had nine stops to tie for the Commanders' lead in tackles. Martin dealt with a hamstring injury during the week but was able to be on the field for all 70 of Washington's defensive snaps. He's already tallied 67 tackles through 10 games this season after posting a career-high 87 stops across 16 regular-season contests last year.
Nov 9, 2025
Able to suit up Week 10
Martin (hamstring) is active for Sunday's matchup against the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Martin hurt his hamstring last Sunday night against the Seahawks and logged a DNP/LP/FP practice progression this week. He'll ultimately be able to avoid missing a game for the first time this season. Martin should therefore take on his usual starting safety role for Washington.
Nov 7, 2025
Draws questionable tag for Week 10
Martin (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Lions, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin was unable to practice Wednesday due to a hamstring injury he sustained against Seattle in Week 9. He managed to increase his practice participation over the next two days and was a full participant in Friday's session, but he hasn't been given the green light to play Sunday just yet. Martin's status for Week 10 may not be officially known until the Commanders announce their list of inactive players about 90 minutes before the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, but if he's not cleared to play, then Tyler Owens (hamstring) and Darnell Savage would be the top candidates to start at safety alongside Jeremy Reaves.
Nov 6, 2025
Upgrades to limited practice
Martin (hamstring) logged a limited practice session Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The limited session is an upgrade for Martin after he didn't practice in any capacity Wednesday. The third-year safety suffered a hamstring injury Sunday against Seattle and had to sit out the fourth quarter. Martin's level of practice participation Friday should go a long way in determining his chances of suiting up Week 10 versus Detroit.
Nov 5, 2025
No practice Wednesday
Martin (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Martin suffered the hamstring injury during Sunday's loss to Seattle. The severity of the issue is still unclear, though it's not a big surprise that he was unable to practice in any capacity Wednesday.
Nov 2, 2025
Dealing with hamstring injury
Martin (hamstring) is questionable to return to Sunday night's contest against Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Martin suffered a hamstring injury in the second half, and his status for the rest of the game is now uncertain. In his absence, Tyler Owens and Darnell Savage are candidates to operate in larger roles at safety versus the Seahawks.
Oct 28, 2025
Leading tackler Monday
Martin recorded 14 tackles (10 solo) during Monday's 28-7 loss at Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
The Chiefs created plenty of tackling opportunities by running the ball 30 times in Week 8, and Martin capitalized by tallying a career-high tackle total. In Week 9, Washington will play host to the Seahawks, who are one of the most run-heavy teams in the league.
Oct 21, 2025
Finishes with seven stops in Week 7
Martin tallied seven tackles (three solo) in Sunday's loss against Dallas.

Sep 13, 2025
Tallies seven tackles vs. Green Bay
Martin finished Thursday's 27-18 loss to the Packers with seven tackles (four solo) and a pass defense.
ANALYSIS

Makes 87 stops in 2024
Martin recorded 87 tackles (50 solo) and three passes defensed, including one interception, across 16 regular-season appearances with the Commanders in 2024. He also had three forced fumbles.
ANALYSIS
Martin stepped into a starting role on defense Year 2, also tallying 12 tackles (seven solo), one pass defensed, one interception and one defensive touchdown across Washington's three playoff appearances. He'll enter the offseason as a favorite to reprise a starting role at safety for Washington during the 2025 campaign.
Jan 5, 2025
Sidelined by illness in Week 18
Martin (illness) is inactive for Sunday's clash against the Cowboys, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin was added to the injury report due to the illness early Sunday, and he's now been ruled out for the Commanders' regular-season finale. His absence is a significant one for Washington's secondary, as the Illinois product logged 100 percent of the team's defensive snaps in five of his past six games. Percy Butler or Darrick Forrest could slide into a starting role Sunday in Martin's stead.
Dec 30, 2024
Picks off Penix in Week 17
Martin recorded eight total tackles (seven solo) and two passes defended, including one interception, in Sunday's 30-24 overtime win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Martin was active early, picking off rookie Michael Penix on the Falcons' first drive in Sunday's overtime win. The Illinois product continued to make plays throughout the remainder of the game, leading Washington's defense in total tackles and defending an additional pass. Martin has been productive in his first full season as a starter, tallying 87 total tackles, three passes defended, including one interception, and three forced fumbles over 16 appearances. He's expected to remain the Commanders' top free safety in Week 18, when the team travels to Dallas.
Dec 13, 2024
Past shoulder injury
Martin (shoulder) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Martin upgraded to full practice participation Friday after opening the week with consecutive limited sessions, suggesting that he's now recovered from his shoulder injury. The second-year pro from Illinois has logged 71 total tackles while appearing in all of the Commanders' 13 games this season, and he'll look to add to that total in Sunday's matchup in New Orleans.
Dec 11, 2024
Nursing shoulder issue
Martin (shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Despite the Commanders having a Week 14 bye, Martin popped up on Wednesday's injury report with a shoulder issue. He likely sustained the injury in Washington's Week 13 win over the Titans, as he played just 45 defensive snaps, his lowest mark since Week 7. Martin's practice participation Thursday and Friday will likely provide the best indication of whether he can play in Sunday's matchup against the Saints.
Nov 25, 2024
Records seven tackles in Week 12
Martin finished Sunday's 34-26 loss to the Cowboys with seven total tackles (two solo), including one tackle for loss.
ANALYSIS
The second-year safety from Illinois finished as the Commanders' third-leading tackler in Sunday's loss, trailing Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu, who each posted eight total tackles. Martin has impressed in his first season as a full-time starter, recording 66 total tackles, two forced fumbles and one pass defended through 12 games. He and Jeremy Chinn are expected to keep making plays as Washington's top safety duo in the Week 13 matchup against the Titans.
Nov 12, 2024
Six tackles, forced fumble in loss
Martin recorded six total tackles (two solo) while also forcing a fumble in Sunday's 28-27 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Martin finished fourth on the team with six stops against Pittsburgh, but most notably, he stripped running back Jaylen Warren in the fourth quarter when Warren was attempting to reach the end zone. The safety has now compiled 53 total tackles (34 solo), a pass defensed and a forced fumble over 10 games in 2024.
Oct 29, 2024
Team-leading 11 tackles vs. Chicago
Martin finished Sunday's 18-15 win over the Bears with 11 tackles (nine solo).
ANALYSIS
After opening the regular season with a nine-tackle effort against the Buccaneers in Week 1, Martin failed to log more than six combined tackles in each of the Commanders next six games. The starting free safety was more heavily involved Sunday, however, as he led the Commanders with 11 tackles while playing 52 defensive snaps. Martin is up to 44 combined tackles through eight regular-season games and is two shy from matching his production across 16 regular-season outings in 2023.
Oct 18, 2024
Past shoulder issue
Martin (shoulder) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Panthers, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin logged back-to-back limited sessions to open the Commanders' week of practice, but he upgraded to full participation Friday, indicating that he's moved past his shoulder injury. Expect the Illinois product to start alongside Jeremy Chinn as part of the Commanders' top safety duo in Week 7.
Oct 16, 2024
Still nursing neck injury
Martin (neck) was listed as a limited participant for Wednesday's practice session.
ANALYSIS
Martin has been dealing with a neck injury since last week, but he was able to avoid an injury designation heading into the Commanders' Week 6 bout against the Ravens. The 2023 second-round pick has opened this week as a limited practice participant, but he should be good to go for Sunday's game against the Panthers barring any setbacks. Martin has accumulated 31 tackles (22 solo) and one pass defended through the first six games of the regular season.
Oct 11, 2024
Ready for Sunday
Martin (neck) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Ravens, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
The second-year pro from Illinois upgraded from limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday to a full practice Friday, suggesting that he's moved past his neck issue in time for Sunday's contest. Expect Martin to start alongside Jeremy Chinn in Washington's secondary in Week 6.
Oct 9, 2024
Limited Wednesday
Martin (neck) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Martin recorded four total tackles and defended one pass across 47 defensive snaps during the Commanders' Week 5 win over the Browns, but it appears he sustained a neck injury in the process. The second-year pro's participation Thursday and Friday will provide a better indication of his potential availability for Week 6, when the Commanders travel to Baltimore.
Sep 26, 2024
Practices in full Thursday
Martin (elbow) was a full participant in Thursday's practice session.
ANALYSIS
Martin was limited in Wednesday's practice due to an elbow injury. He appears to be past the issue as he participated in Thursday's session without restrictions and should be good to go for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Martin has accrued 18 tackles (12 solo) through the first three games of the regular season.
Sep 25, 2024
Nursing new injury
Martin (elbow) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Martin was able to play through his hamstring issue in the Commanders' Week 3 win over the Bengals, but it appears he sustained a new elbow injury in the process. The second-year safety's participation Thursday and Friday will provide a better indication of his potential availability for Week 4, when Washington travels to Arizona.
Sep 20, 2024
On track to play at Cincinnati
Martin (hamstring) does not carry an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game at the Bengals, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin was able to play through the same lingering hamstring issue in Week 2, so it's not surprising that he'll be ready to go for Week 3. The 2023 second-rounder could have some IDP value this week against a pass-happy Cincinnati team.
Sep 19, 2024
Opens week limited
Martin (hamstring) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Martin played through a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Giants, and he finished the game with three tackles (two solo). He'll have two more practices to upgrade his participation ahead of Monday's game against the Bengals.
Sep 15, 2024
Cleared for Week 2
Martin (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Martin suffered a minor hamstring injury during Friday's practice but will still play against the Giants. The 2023 second-round pick played 59 of Washington's 64 defensive snaps in Week 1, recording nine tackles (eight solo).
Sep 13, 2024
Late addition to injury report
Martin (hamstring) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Giants, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin appears to have sustained a hamstring injury during Friday's practice that's put his Week 2 availability in jeopardy. The second-year safety is coming off an impressive Week 1 performance, in which he recorded nine total tackles on 56 defensive snaps. However, if he's unable to go Sunday, expect Jeremy Reaves to work as Washington's top free safety.
Sep 9, 2024
Impresses Week 1
Martin logged nine total tackles (eight solo) during Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
The second-year safety out of Illinois was one of the few bright spots for the Commanders' defense Sunday, finishing second on the team in total tackles. In Martin's rookie year, he appeared in 16 regular-season games and recorded 46 total tackles, including 1.0 sack and two interceptions. Expect Martin to have a more prominent role in the Commanders' secondary as his sophomore campaign progresses.

Headed for starting safety job
Martin is on track to start at free safety this year, according to independent Commanders reporter Mark Bullock.
ANALYSIS
Martin started his college career as a perimeter cornerback but ultimately spent a lot of time in the slot and also played safety a bit. The Commanders drafted him in the second round last spring, 47th overall, and then installed Martin as their slot corner for most of an up-and-down rookie season. New coach Dan Quinn wants Martin to move to free safety, perhaps because it frees up the nickelback job for rookie second-round pick Mike Sainristil, who was dominant guarding the slot in his final two seasons at Michigan. Martin might face a learning curve at safety, but his 4.47 time and 44-inch vertical jump suggest few players at the position league-wide have similar athleticism.
Jan 23, 2024
Finishes rookie season strong
Martin started five of 16 games as a rookie in 2023, recording 46 tackles (28 soo), four pass defenses, two interceptions and one sack.
ANALYSIS
The second-round pick played just 17 defensive snaps before November but then got most of the work at slot corner during the second half of his rookie season. It's hard to say if that's truly where he fits best or just where he ended up because the Washington secondary was such a mess. Either way, Martin should have a prominent role in 2024 under a new coaching staff, as he was one of the relative bright spots this past season for one of the league's worst defenses. He's also one of the more athletic defensive backs in the NFL, boasting a 4.46-second 40-yard dash and 44-inch vertical from the 2023 combine.
Jan 7, 2024
Won't return Sunday
Martin (ankle) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin briefly returned to Sunday's game, but the ankle injury appears to be serious enough to have him ruled out for the rest of the contest. Nick Whiteside and Emmanuel Forbes will pick up the slack with Martin sidelined.
Jan 7, 2024
Returns to Sunday's game
Martin (ankle) has returned to Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin briefly left Sunday's contest after sustaining an ankle injury in the second quarter. He'll slot back in at corner alongside Benjamin St-Juste.
Jan 7, 2024
Questionable to return
Martin is considered questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Cowboys due to an ankle injury, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The severity of Martin's injury is unknown at this time. While he is sidelined, Nick Whiteside and Emmanuel Forbes are candidates to see increased snaps at cornerback.
Jan 4, 2024
Full session Thursday
Martin (chest) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
The rookie cornerback out of Illinois seems to be past his chest issue, as he's gone from a limited session to begin the Commanders' week of practice to a full workload Thursday. Martin has racked up 27 of his 42 total tackles over the past four games, and he'll look to help Washington end its season on a positive note in Week 18 against the Cowboys.
Jan 3, 2024
Nursing chest injury
Martin (chest) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear when Martin picked up the chest issue, but his presence at practice Wednesday suggests it's probably not too severe. If he can upgrade to full participation at practice Thursday or Friday, he'll likely avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.
Dec 19, 2023
Secures first career sack
Martin recorded 10 tackles (seven solo), including a sack, in Sunday's 28-20 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Martin had a career-high 10 takedowns in the contest while also securing his first ever sack, bringing down Matthew Stafford in the loss. The cornerback played 73 defensive snaps, his highest total of the year, and he's seen his workload increase as the the season has gone on.
Dec 5, 2023
Sets career-high tackle total
Martin recorded seven tackles (five solo) in Sunday's 45-15 loss versus the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
In his second game playing more than 20 defensive snaps (29), Martin also collected more than four total tackles for the first time in Week 13. As the Commanders fall further away from playoff contention, it would make sense for them to continue to give more playing time to their second-round rookie after their bye in Week 14.
Nov 6, 2023
Gets first career INT in win
Martin had a pass deflection and an interception in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
His interception came late in the fourth quarter on a pass from Mac Jones intended for JuJu Smith-Schuster that went through the hands of the veteran wide receiver and into Martin's arms to seal the game. The rookie cornerback has seen his role on defense steadily increase over the past few weeks and played a season-high 14 defensive snaps in Week 9. Martin will look to continue to carve out a bigger role for himself in Week 10 against the Seahawks.
Oct 1, 2023
Back in action
Martin (thumb) has returned to Sunday's game against the Eagles, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin suffered the injury in the first half, but he returned for the second. He should continue chipping in on special teams and be a depth option in the Commanders secondary.
Oct 1, 2023
Exits due to injury
Martin has left Sunday's game against the Eagles early with a thumb injury.
ANALYSIS
Martin had one tackle before exiting. With his work primarily coming on special teams, his absence shouldn't impact the team's secondary while he is out.
Sep 22, 2023
Looks ready for Sunday
Martin (concussion) was a full participant at practice Friday and does not carry an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game versus Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
As appeared to be the case after he practiced in full Thursday, Martin should be good to go for Week 3. He'll continue to play mostly on special teams, barring injuries.
Sep 21, 2023
Logs full practice Thursday
Martin (concussion) was a full participant at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
It's still not clear whether Martin has passed through all five phases of the concussion protocol, but he appears to be headed in the right direction for Week 3. He still has two full days to clear protocol before Sunday's game versus Buffalo, that is if he hasn't already.
Sep 15, 2023
Out for Week 2 against Denver
Martin (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's Week 2 game against the Broncos, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The second-round rookie played 18 snaps on special teams in his NFL debut last week against the Cardinals but didn't see any action on defense.
Sep 11, 2023
Now in concussion protocol
Martin is in the concussion protocol ahead of Sunday's game at Denver, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin played exclusively on special teams during his pro debut, but he was not spared the injury bug, as he apparently came out of Washington's win in Week 1 with a concussion. Look for the Commanders' injury reports in Week 2 to shed some light on his availability for Sunday.

Heading to Nation's Capital
The Commanders selected Martin in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 47th overall.
ANALYSIS
Washington went into this draft looking to bolster its secondary and executed that plan by nabbing Emmanuel Forbes in the first round and circling back to get Martin in the second. The Illinois product was a major contributor for a stout Illini defense over the last couple of years with over 50 tackles in both 2021 and 2022. Martin stood out at the combine as well, especially with his jumps (44-inch vertical, 133-inch broad jump) which bodes well for his transition to the next level. He projects to play safety but can also stick as a nickel corner.
