Raheem Mostert Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Browns vs Raiders game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 11, 2025
Makes 11-yard reception in loss
Mostert rushed once for four yards and caught his lone target for 11 yards in Thursday's 10-7 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been the target of two or less offensive touches in three consecutive games, while rookie Ashton Jeanty took 19 carries for 60 yards and a score to go along with three receptions Thursday. Jeanty figures to retain the workhorse role ahead of a Week 11 matchup against the Cowboys, as Mostert remains the distant RB2 in this Raiders offense.
Nov 4, 2025
Posts 202 return yards Sunday
Mostert caught his lone target for 14 yards and returned five kickoffs for 202 yards in Sunday's 30-29 overtime loss to the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has racked up 302 total kickoff return yards throughout the Raiders' past two games, but rookie Ashton Jeanty continues to dominate touches out of the backfield, while also proving capable as a pass catcher. Mostert's offensive involvement figures to remain limited in Denver on Thursday.
Oct 21, 2025
Notches 100 return yards in loss
Mostert caught his lone target for two yards in Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Chiefs. He also returned three kickoffs for 100 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's 100 return yards marked a season high, but he failed to record a single carry after collectively rushing 16 times from Week 4 to Week 6 behind rookie Ashton Jeanty. The Raiders' offense will look to get back on track against the Jaguars in Week 9 following the upcoming bye.
Oct 14, 2025
Rushes five times in win
Mostert lost four yards on five carries in Sunday's 20-10 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Mostert played 13 offensive snaps behind rookie Ashton Jeanty, who handled a bulk of the workload out of the Raiders' backfield with 25 touches for 86 total yards and a score. Expect a similarly one-sided split during a tough Week 7 matchup in Kansas City.
Oct 7, 2025
Handles seven carries in loss
Mostert rushed seven times for 22 yards in Sunday's 40-6 loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Mostert played 47 percent of the Raiders offensive snaps Sunday, a major increase in playing time compared to his 15 percent snap share in Week 4 when he made his season debut. Through two games, the veteran running back has recorded just 11 carries for 84 yards, adding one catch for 11 yards. With Ashton Jeanty handling the bulk of the backfield duties for the Raiders, Mostert remains nothing more than an insurance policy behind the rookie. Next up for the Raiders is a home matchup against the Titans' vulnerable run defense in Week 6.
Sep 30, 2025
Productive in backup role
Mostert rushed four times for 62 yards and caught his only target for 11 yards in Sunday's 25-24 loss to the Bears. He also returned four kickoffs for 96 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's 2025 debut with the Raiders was highlighted by a 37-yard carry in the fourth quarter, though he ultimately played just eight offensive snaps. Meanwhile, rookie Ashton Jeanty erupted for a 21-138-1 rushing line to go along with a pair of receiving touchdowns on as many targets. Benefiting from fellow running back Zamir White's designation as a healthy scratch, Mostert likely flashed enough productivity to retain the RB2 role ahead of a Week 5 clash against the Colts.
Sep 15, 2025
Healthy scratch again
Mostert (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday night's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
The veteran running back will be in street clothes for a second-straight week. It seems that Mostert is unlikely to suit up on gameday unless Ashton Jeanty, Zamir White or Dylan Laube were to miss time due to injury, illness or suspension. Mostert's next chance to play is Week 3 against the Commanders on Sunday, Sept. 21.
Sep 7, 2025
Not playing Week 1
Mostert (coach's decision) is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against New England.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's inactive status comes as a surprise, as he's not known to be dealing with an injury and was listed as the Raiders' RB2 or RB3 on the team's initial Week 1 depth chart, per Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. With Mostert out of action, Las Vegas will go with Zamir White and Dylan Laube as the active running backs behind rookie starter Ashton Jeanty.
Aug 16, 2025
Active in passing game Saturday
Mostert gained nine yards on three carries in a preseason loss to the 49ers on Saturday. He added three receptions on four targets for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mostert logged fewer carries and yards than both Ashton Jeanty (7-33-1) and Chris Collier (4-26-0), but he led all Raiders running backs in targets, catches and receiving yards. He's never been a prolific pass-catcher out of the backfield, but he may need to do more of that work this season to be at all productive with Jeanty likely to be a workhorse back for the Raiders. As it stands, Mostert is not guaranteed to be the team's No. 2 RB -- Zamir White and Sincere McCormick are also vying for that role.
Apr 28, 2025
Falls behind Jeanty
Mostert will be joined by No. 6 overall pick Ashton Jeanty in a new-look Raiders backfield.
ANALYSIS
The Raiders never figured to settle for 33-year-old Mostert as their lead back, unchallenged, but there was at least some chance he'd compete to be 1A in a committee. He instead figures to be purely a backup, behind one of the best RB prospects in recent memory. The good news for Mostert is weak competition for backup roles, with the Raiders otherwise rostering Zamir White (quadriceps), Sincere McCormick (ankle), Dylan Laube and Chris Collier.
Mar 13, 2025
Links up with Las Vegas
Mostert is signing a one-year contract with the Raiders, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The soon-to-be 33-year-old will join a new-look Vegas offense with Geno Smith at quarterback and Chip Kelly calling plays. It's about the best landing spot possible in terms of opportunity to earn snaps and touches, as the Raiders had arguably the worst backfield in the league last year and haven't signed any other free agents so far this offseason. Of course, more help likely is on the way, be it in the coming weeks via free agency or at the end of April during the NFL Draft. Mostert and Kelly briefly worked together in Philadelphia (2015) and San Francisco (2016), but at a point in Mostert's career when he was struggling to stick around the league and mostly playing special teams.
Feb 14, 2025
Officially released by Miami
The Dolphins released Mostert on Friday.
ANALYSIS
This was the expected move after Mostert's agent, Brett Tessler, announced it was going to happen earlier in the day Friday. Mostert turns 33 years old in April and is coming off a down 2024 season, rushing 85 times for 278 yards and two touchdowns across 13 games, just one year after leading the NFL with 18 rushing scores. The move clears over $2.97 million in cap space for the Dolphins. De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright currently sit atop the depth chart in the backfield for Miami, and Mostert will look for another team as a free agent.
Feb 14, 2025
Expected to be released by Miami
The Dolphins informed Mostert that he will be released this offseason, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The move isn't yet official, but the Dolphins have informed Mostert's agent, Brett Tessler, of the impending move. It's a no-brainer for Miami and will clear more than $2.97 million against the salary cap. Mostert is coming off an extremely down year, rushing just 85 times for 278 yards and two touchdowns across 13 games just one season after leading the NFL with 18 rushing scores. De'Von Achane took over clear RB1 duties for the Dolphins, and even Jaylen Wright was playing ahead of Mostert for much of the year. Mostert turns 33 years old in April and may be running out of gas at this stage of his career.
Jan 6, 2025
Plays one offensive snap in finale
Mostert played one snap on offense and did not log a carry or target during Sunday's 32-20 loss to the Jets. He also played one snap on special teams.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's disastrous 2024 campaign ended on a fittingly quiet note, as he totaled 85 carries for 278 and two touchdowns across 13 regular-season appearances. The veteran running back also secured 19 of 23 targets for 161 yards. Mostert's production totals in 2024 stand as a sharp contrast to his 2023 numbers, in which he scored 21 times and surpassed 1,000 yards. The 32-year-old remains under contract with Miami for 2025, but the Dolphins have the option of a potential 'out' for only $1 million in dead cap.
Dec 30, 2024
Inefficient in Week 17 win
Mostert rushed six times for three yards during Sunday's 20-3 win over Cleveland. He also secured both of his targets for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, De'Von Achane and Jeff Wilson were all inefficient out of the backfield versus the Browns, despite a game script in which Miami got out to an early lead and would have benefited from an ability to lean on the run. He'll attempt to bounce back Week 18 against the Jets, a divisional matchup in which a win could provide the Dolphins with a playoff berth.
Dec 23, 2024
Double-digit touches in Week 16 win
Mostert carried the ball eight times for 31 yards and caught both his targets for 15 yards during Sunday's 39-17 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
De'Von Achane (190 scrimmage yards and one touchdown on 24 touches) remains the clear lead option out of the backfield for Miami, but Mostert has reclaimed his grip on the No. 2 role since returning from a one-game absence due to a hip injury. He'll again help complement Achane on the road against Cleveland in Week 17.
Dec 15, 2024
Musters 21 total yards in return
Mostert rushed six times for eight yards and brought in all three targets for 13 yards in the Dolphins' 20-12 loss to the Texans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mostert made his return from a one-game absence due to a hip injury, but he finished with his third single-digit rushing yardage total in the last four games. Mostert's reception total was a new season high, but it's clear he's a distant second fiddle to De'Von Achane in Miami's unproductive ground attack barring an injury to the latter.
Dec 13, 2024
Cleared to play Week 15
Mostert (hip) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Texans and is expected to play, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After limited practices Wednesday and Thursday, Mostert got in a full session Friday and is ready to return following a one-game absence. It's been a challenging 2024 for the 32-year-old running back, compiling a 65-236-2 rushing line, averaging a career-low 3.6 yards per carry. He'll help spell De'Von Achane versus Houston.
Dec 13, 2024
Optimism for Week 15
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Friday he's "optimistic" Mostert (hip) will be able to play Sunday versus the Texans, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been limited in practice as of late due to a hip injury, the same issue that forced him to sit out Week 14 against the Jets. Even if active at Houston on Sunday, though, Mostert's opportunity share isn't guaranteed to bring fantasy relevance. The veteran has combined for just 10 carries for just 10 carries for 22 yards across his last four appearances, in addition to five grabs for 46 yards on seven targets.
Dec 11, 2024
Remains limited at practice
Mostert (hip) was limited at practice Wednesday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who was also limited at practice last week, was inactive for this past Sunday's game against the Jets. With that in mind, he'll need to practice fully by Friday in order to approach this weekend's game against the Texans without an injury designation. If Mostert remains sidelined, however, added Week 15 RB snaps would be available for Jaylen Wright and Jeff Wilson.
Dec 8, 2024
Officially inactive
Mostert (hip) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Mostert practiced in limited fashion throughout the week, but that won't be enough for him to suit up for Miami's Week 14 divisional matchup. De'Von Achane will continue to handle the majority of touches out of the backfield, though Jaylen Wright should see a bump in his role.
Dec 8, 2024
Trending toward not playing Week 14
Mostert, who is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Jets due to a hip injury, isn't likely to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was able to practice all week, but only in a limited fashion. He was given a tag of questionable heading into the weekend, and it appears he is in line to miss his first contest since Week 4. If that's the case, Jaylen Wright would likely work as the top backup to De'Von Achane in the Dolphins' backfield.
Dec 6, 2024
Questionable after limited practice
Mostert (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was limited in all three of Miami's practices during the week. If Mostert's unable to play Sunday, rookie Jaylen Wright would complement lead back De'Von Achane in Miami's backfield, with Jeff Wilson on hand for depth.
Dec 5, 2024
Stays limited in practice
Mostert (hip) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has opened Week 14 prep with a pair of limited practices, so he may need to upgrade to full participation Friday to avoid taking a designation into Sunday's game against the Jets. After carrying five times for three yards over a three-game stretch from Weeks 10 through 12, Mostert finished as the Dolphins' rushing leader in the team's Thanksgiving Day loss to the Packers. Even so, Mostert was limited to just 19 yards on five carries, as the Dolphins largely eschewed the run after falling behind 14-0 following the first quarter.
Dec 4, 2024
Limited on Wednesday
Mostert (hip) was limited in Wednesday's practice, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert injured his hip Nov. 17 against the Raiders but was able to return to the game. His practice reps weren't affected by the injury in recent weeks, but perhaps this is more of a maintenance day for the veteran running back. Mostert led the Dolphins in rushing last Thursday night against the Packers, mustering up 19 yards on five carries.
Nov 29, 2024
Leading rusher in Week 13 loss
Mostert rushed five times for 19 yards during he Dolphins' 30-17 loss to the Packers on Thursday. He also caught two of three targets for 15 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was Miami's best option on the ground during Thursday's underwhelming loss, and he also had a 26-yard stiff-arm run wiped out by a holding penalty late in the third quarter. It was notable to see Mostert retake the No. 2 role from rookie Jaylen Wright, but he remains a lackluster fantasy option heading into a Week 14 home game against the Jets. Through nine games this season Mostert has only compiled 236 rushing yards on 65 carries (3.6 YPA), with just two touchdowns.
Nov 25, 2024
Barely involved in divisional win
Mostert rushed twice for five yards during Sunday's 34-15 win over New England. He also secured his only target for minus-three yards.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has now logged four consecutive games with three or fewer carries. Meanwhile, rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright logged four carries for 25 yards behind starter De'Von Achane, who had 10 carries for 32 yards and scored twice through the air while securing three of four targets for 24 yards. The 32-year-old veteran is a definitive footnote in Miami's offensive scheme, so he carries minimal fantasy value heading into a road matchup against the Packers on Thanksgiving.
Nov 20, 2024
Non-factor against Las Vegas
Mostert carried the ball three times for minus-2 yards in Sunday's 34-19 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was forced out of the game Sunday with a hip injury, but was able to make an eventual return. The veteran's 14 percent snap share and minus-2 rushing yards were both season lows for the running back. After a stellar 2023 campaign, Mostert's 2024 season has been a major disappointment along with the entire Miami offense. With De'Von Achane emerging as the clear lead back and Jaylen Wright showing proving to be solid young player, it's evident that the 32-year-old Mostert's best days are behind him. Nonetheless, tenth-year running back will look to get more involved in a Week 12 matchup with the Patriots.
Nov 17, 2024
Back in Sunday's contest
Mostert (hip) has returned to Sunday's game against the Raiders, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert had exited the game with a hip issue, but he's back in the Dolphins' Week 11 backfield mix Sunday, along with De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright.
Nov 17, 2024
Exits Sunday's game
Mostert was forced out of Sunday's game against the Raiders with a hip injury.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit from the contest, Mostert carried once for zero yards. While he's sidelined, De'Von Achane and Jaylen Wright are available to handle Miami's running back duties versus Las Vegas.
Nov 12, 2024
Used sparingly in third-down role
Mostert secured two of three targets for 34 yards during Miami's 23-15 win over the Rams on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Mostert did not log a single carry during Monday night's win, while De'Von Achane rushed 12 times for 37 yards and Jaylen Wright logged five carries for three yards. Achane was also more involved than Mostert in the receiving game, securing all five of his targets for 15 yards. All three of Tua Tagovailao's targets to Mostert came on third down, and the veteran running back's 15 percent share of offensive snaps marked a season-low total. Mostert had logged at least 10 carries in three of four appearances leading up to Monday's win, but his role on the ground now has to be considered uncertain heading into a Week 11 home game against the Raiders.
Nov 3, 2024
Outplayed by Achane in Week 9
Mostert rushed 10 times for 56 yards, caught both of his targets for 32 yards and lost a fumble in Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Mostert touched the ball on Miami's first three plays of the second half, and while he compiled 30 scrimmage yards during that stretch, it ended on a sour note when he lost a fumble. He finished with 12 touches compared to 20 for De'Von Achane, who compiled 121 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. Mostert had a two-touchdown performance of his own in Week 8 against Arizona, but Achane has the higher floor in Miami's productive backfield heading into Week 10 against the Rams.
Oct 27, 2024
Scores twice in Week 8 loss
Mostert rushed nine times for 19 yards and two touchdowns while catching one of two targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 28-27 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Mostert helped the Dolphins welcome back starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) by capping Miami's opening drive with a one-yard touchdown run. The veteran running back added a six-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter, but he was otherwise outperformed on the ground by De'Von Achane, who had 10 carries for 97 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown. Achane is usually the favorite to lead Miami's backfield in touches and yards, but Mostert's success by the goal line is nothing new, as Mostert produced a league-best 18 rushing touchdowns in 2023. Both Dolphins running backs will be in fantasy starter consideration in Week 9 against a Bills defense that has been better against the pass than the run.
Oct 20, 2024
Churns out 50 yards Sunday
Mostert carried the ball 11 times for 50 yards in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
De'Von Achane led the Miami backfield with 15 totes for 77 yards, but Mostert found some success as well, even with the Colts' defense having little to worry about through the air. The Dolphins could lean even more heavily on their backfield in Week 8 against the Cardinals -- Tyler Huntley (shoulder) left Sunday's game in the third quarter, joining Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) and Skylar Thompson (ribs) on the sidelines, and if none of those QBs are ready to go next week, 30-year-old career backup Tim Boyle would get the start.
Oct 6, 2024
Impressive numbers in return
Mostert rushed 19 times for 80 yards and brought in both targets for 18 yards in the Dolphins' 15-10 win over the Patriots on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, making his return from a three-game absence due to a chest injury, wasn't expected to walk back into a full workload, but De'Von Achane's first-half exit due to a concussion scuttled those plans. The veteran responded in impressive fashion, consistently grinding out solid gains while splitting work with rookie Jaylen Wright, who stood out with a 13-86 line on the ground. Achane should have plenty of time to clear concussion protocol during the Week 6 bye, but Mostert should have a complementary role at minimum in a Week 7 road battle against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 20.
Oct 4, 2024
Set to return Sunday
Mostert (chest) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in New England, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert hasn't played since Week 1 due to a chest injury, which has sidelined him the last three contests. He was able to return to practice as of Sept. 18, but he also was listed as limited on every Dolphins injury report in the meantime until Friday, when he finally logged a full practice. Coach Mike McDaniel told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald on Friday that the team is "going to modify how much he plays in general" if he's able to suit up Sunday. As a result, Mostert likely will be operating with a cap on his reps this weekend and perhaps until McDaniel feels he can handle a normal workload. Expect Mostert to play second fiddle to De'Vone Achane out of Miami's backfield for the time being.
Oct 4, 2024
Could play Sunday, practice pending
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Friday that Mostert (chest) could suit up Sunday versus New England on modified reps, depending on how much he's able to do in practice Friday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has practiced in a limited capacity since his return to on-field activities Sept. 18, so it sounds like the veteran running back may need to handle a full session Friday in order to be cleared for Week 5. Even if given the green light to play in New England, though, it sounds like Mostert would remain on a snap count. McDaniel said the same for wide receiver Odell Beckham (knee), who resumed practicing Wednesday but has yet to be fully activated from the reserve/PUP list.
Oct 3, 2024
Still limited at practice
Mostert (chest) remained limited at practice Thursday, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who has missed three straight games, continues to practice in a limited fashion as Sunday's game against the Patriots approaches. He'll presumably need to upgrade to full participation Friday in order to avoid an injury designation heading into the weekend.
Oct 2, 2024
Remains limited at practice
Mostert (chest) was limited at practice Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was also limited last week, but ended up inactive for Monday night's game against the Titans. The running back has two more chances to increase his participation level in advance of Week 5 action, which also applies to fellow RB Jeff Wilson (knee), but if Mostert remains sidelined this weekend against the Patriots, De'Von Achane would continue to lead Miami's backfield, with Jaylen Wright and Wilson (if available) also in the mix.
Sep 30, 2024
Won't play Monday
Mostert (chest) is inactive for Monday night's game against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
After logging three straight limited practices, Mostert -- who last played in Week 1 -- was listed as questionable ahead of the contest, but he'll remain out Monday and target a potential return to action Oct. 6 against the Patriots. In his continued absence, De'Von Achane is in line to lead Miami's Week 4 backfield, with Jeff Wilson and Jaylen Wright also available to mix in.
Sep 30, 2024
Not expected to play Monday
Mostert (chest) isn't expected to play Monday night against the Titans, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert is listed as questionable for the contest, but if he is indeed unavailable versus Tennessee, De'Von Achane, Jeff Wilson and Jaylen Wright would be in line to handle Miami's Week 4 backfield duties. Official confirmation of Mostert's status will arrive when the Dolphins' inactives are posted ahead of Monday's 7:30 ET kickoff.
Sep 29, 2024
Questionable for Monday
Mostert (chest), who is listed as questionable for Monday night's game against the Titans, "is trying" to be ready for the contest according to coach Mike McDaniel, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who has missed the Dolphins' last two games, logged limited practices this past week before being deemed questionable ahead of Week 4 action. At this stage, however, his status for Monday remains uncertain, with McDaniel having noted of Mostert, "we are not going to prematurely put ourselves out there if we are going to take steps back and not protect ourselves. He wants to [play] in the worst way." If Mostert is unavailable for Monday's 7:30 ET kickoff, De'Von Achane, Jeff Wilson and Jaylen Wright would handle backfield duties against Tennessee.
Sep 28, 2024
Listed as questionable
Mostert (chest) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Titans, C. Isaiah Smalls II of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was a limited participant in practice all week, so it stands to reason the veteran could make a return after missing the past three weeks. It's worth noting the 32-year-old had a similar practice cadence last week, but the extra few days following the Week 3 Thursday game might have given Mostert just enough time to suit up come Monday. Expect to hear more information from one of the national reporters before the primetime contest starting at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Sep 27, 2024
Another limited practice
Mostert (chest) was a limited practice participant Friday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
For a second consecutive week, Mostert is operating with a cap on his practice reps due to the chest injury that has plagued him since a Week 1 win against the Jaguars. Per Furones, Mostert expressed optimism Friday about returning to action Week 4, but the main hindrance for him at the moment is pain tolerance. Considering the Dolphins don't play until 7:30 p.m. ET on Monday, there won't be many backfield options to pivot to if he eventually goes down as inactive. On the other hand, if Mostert is available, he likely will wear some extra padding to help avoid any sort of aggravation of the issue. Whenever he's back, though, there's a good chance he'd play second fiddle to fellow Miami RB De'Von Achane.
Sep 26, 2024
Starts week with limited practice
Mostert (chest) was limited in practice Thursday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who hasn't played since Week 1, remains limited in practice despite having benefited from a longer recovery period following Week 3's loss to the Bills on Thursday Night Football. The veteran running back will have two more opportunities to upgrade his participation level ahead of Miami's home matchup against the Titans on Monday. If Mostert can gain full clearance to retake the field Week 4, he'll stand to rejoin De'Von Achane atop the Dolphins' backfield.
Sep 22, 2024
Inactive versus Seattle
Mostert (chest) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Though Mostert worked in a limited capacity at practice this past week, coach Mike McDaniel expressed pessimism ahead of the weekend regarding the running back's Week 3 playing prospects. Now that he's been made inactive for the second game in a row, Mostert will target a potential return to action Sept. 30 against the Titans. In his continued absence, De'Von Achane should lead Miami's backfield versus Seattle, with Jeff Wilson and Jaylen Wright also available to mix in.
Sep 20, 2024
Doubtful for Sunday
Mostert (chest) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Seahawks after being limited in practice this week, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's official injury status aligns with the pessimism coach Mike McDaniel previously expressed with regard to the running back's Week 3 playing prospects. In the event that Mostert is inactive Sunday, look for De'Von Achane to lead Miami's backfield versus Seattle, with Jeff Wilson and Jaylen Wright on hand to mix in.
Sep 20, 2024
Pessimism regarding Week 3 status
Coach Mike McDaniel noted Friday that he's not optimistic about the availability of Mostert (chest) for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
When addressing the status of Mostert -- who was inactive in Week 2 -- McDaniel noted, "I'd be pessimistic that he'd play, but I can't rule it out." Added context regarding the running back's chances of playing this weekend will arrive once the Dolphins' injury report is posted Friday. If Mostert is unavailable versus Seattle, De'Von Achane, Jeff Wilson and Jaylen Wright would handle Miami's Week 3 backfield duties.
Sep 19, 2024
Another limited session
Mostert (chest) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
After Mostert emerged from Week 1 with a chest injury, the Dolphins held him out of practice on a short week and then ruled him out for last Thursday's contest versus the Bills. As Miami reconvened this week, he's been able to maintain his activity level through two sessions, but his listing on Friday's injury report will be key as it pertains to his odds to return Sunday at Seattle. Once he's cleared for game action, Mostert likely will take a back seat to second-year pro De'Von Achane out of the Dolphins backfield.
Sep 18, 2024
Logs limited practice
Mostert (chest) was limited at practice Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to fellow RB Jeff Wilson (oblique), with the duo's status worth monitoring ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Mostert didn't practice leading up to Miami's Sept. 12 loss to the Bills, but with the added time afforded by the team's short Week 2, he's been seeing a daily uptick in progress according to coach Mike McDaniel, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports, offering hope that his absence from the Dolphins' backfield might last just one contest.
Sep 18, 2024
Returns to practice
Mostert (chest) is present for practice Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Injured in the season opener, Mostert was unable to practice or play on a short week with the Dolphins playing Buffalo last Thursday. His return to practice Wednesday may be in a limited capacity, but it suggest he'll have a shot to play this Sunday in Seattle.
Sep 12, 2024
Not expected to land on IR
The Dolphins are not expected to place Mostert (chest), who has already been ruled out for Thursday's divisional matchup against the Bills, on injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert will miss Week 2 due to a chest injury sustained in Miami's season-opening win over Jacksonville, but the veteran doesn't appear to be dealing with a long-term issue. His next chance to play will come on the road against Seattle in Week 3, on Sunday, Sept. 22. Mostert didn't practice in any capacity leading up to his being ruled out against Buffalo, and in Week 1 he logged just six carries for nine yards, plus two catches for 10 yards (on three targets). If rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright or veteran Jeff Wilson manages to truly impress with increased opportunity, fantasy managers may have difficulty being confident relying on on Mostert in starting lineups until he shows more of the upside he did in his 21-TD 2023 campaign.

Ruled out for Thursday
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Mostert (chest) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bills, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert sustained the chest injury in the Dolphins' season-opening win over the Jaguars on Sunday, with Furones relaying that the veteran running back attempted to play through the issue. The Dolphins won't rush Mostert back on the field in a short week, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network relays that change-of-pace back De'Von Achane (ankle) is considered a game-time decision for Thursday. Those developments could pave the way for veteran Jeff Wilson and rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright to handle key backfield roles versus Buffalo. McDaniel declined to offer a timetable for Mostert's recovery, but said that "my sense is, it's not something that time won't take care of," per Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald. The Dolphins will presumably reassesses Mostert's status following Thursday's game before a clearer picture regarding his availability for a Week 3 matchup with the Seahawks on Sept. 22 emerges.
Sep 10, 2024
Sits out Tuesday's walk-through
Mostert (chest) was listed as a non-participant during Tuesday's walk-through practice, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dolphins have labeled Mostert as a non-participant on both of their first two Week 2 injury reports after he logged 28 snaps and carried six times for nine yards while adding two receptions for 10 yards on three targets in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Jaguars. While the team hasn't suggested that Mostert's injury is a major concern, he may need to get in some practice activity Wednesday to avoid carrying an injury designation into Thursday's game against the Bills.
Sep 9, 2024
Tending to chest injury
Mostert was listed as a non-participant on the Dolphins' estimated practice report Monday due to a chest injury.
ANALYSIS
The same can be said for fellow running back De'Von Achane, who is dealing with an ankle issue. Neither health concern was reported in the wake of Miami's 20-17 win against the Jaguars on Sunday, so the situation bears watching to see who among the duo may be available for Thursday's AFC East showdown with the Bills. Currently, Jeff Wilson and Jaylen Wright are the healthy backfield options on the Dolphins' active roster.
Sep 8, 2024
Shut down in Week 1 win
Mostert rushed six times for nine yards and brought in two of three targets for 10 yards in the Dolphins' 20-17 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
As if Mostert's final rushing line wasn't concerning enough, it's worth adding he gained six of his nine yards on one carry. The forgettable day was compounded by the fact fellow back De'Von Achane was the clear preferred option, logging 17 total touches. Even No. 3 running back Jeff Wilson saw only one fewer carry than Mostert, leaving the latter's outlook already murky as a Week 2 home matchup against the Bills approaches on Thursday night.
Aug 17, 2024
Five touches in preseason win
Mostert rushed five times for seven yards in the Dolphins' 13-6 preseason win over the Commanders on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
After the Dolphins opened with back-to-back passing plays on their first drive, Mostert took three straight carries and netted six yards. The veteran back would continue alternating with De'Von Achane for the remainder of the opening possession but only gained one additional yard on his final two totes, and Saturday's cameo appearance could well be the extent of Mostert's preseason action given his age and the fact there's only one exhibition remaining.
Aug 16, 2024
Likely to play vs. Washington
Coach Mike McDaniel said Thursday that "guys who are starters" will handle "some action" during Saturday's preseason game versus the Commanders, Chris Perkins of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
McDaniel didn't clarify which specific starters will play in Miami's second preseason game, or how many snaps they'll handle, but it sounds like Mostert will take the field with the first-team offense alongside backfield mate De'Von Achane. Mostert and Achane were one of the NFL's most productive RB tandems last season and are now joined by rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright, who David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports Mostert has been continually impressed by this offseason. Familiar faces Jeff Wilson and Salvon Ahmed have also returned as depth options.
May 8, 2024
Happy with added backfield depth
Mostert said Tuesday he's "excited" to have rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright join himself and De'Von Achane in Miami's backfield, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert said he's "excited to have [Wright] here and try to coach him up, try to help him out within this offense. As he enters his age-32 seasons, Mostert and Achane are clearly the top dogs of the Dolphins' rushing game after both having accomplished extremely efficient seasons in 2023, likely leaving Wright to start out a as a third-stringer, with Jeff Wilson potentially on the outside looking in. Of course, neither Mostert or Achane boast ideal profiles for a heavy workload, so Wright could find himself earning opportunities earlier than typical for a No. 3 option. All three of Mostert, Achane and Wright boast atypical explosiveness, so it's possible that Mike McDaniel's scheme could manage to deploy each back relatively interchangeably.

Re-works deal with Miami
The Dolphins and Mostert have agreed to terms on a re-worked deal that includes an extension through the 2025 season, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Mostert's new deal with the Dolphins is worth up to $9.1 million over two years. The running back, who turns 32 next month, is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he ran for 1,012 yards on 209 carries in 15 regular-season games, while combining for 21 TDs (18 rushing and three receiving). This coming season, Mostert is set to reprise his key role in a Miami backfield that also includes dynamic 2023 third-rounder De'Von Achane, as well as Jeff Wilson, Salvon Ahmed and Chris Brooks.
Jan 15, 2024
Shouldn't need ankle surgery
Mostert said Monday he doesn't expect to undergo surgery to address the ankle injury that hindered him down the stretch of the 2023 season, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert entered Saturday's 26-7 wild-card loss to the Chiefs nursing both knee and ankle injuries, but frigid weather conditions and an unfortunate game script limited him to eight carries for 33 yards. He also secured one of two targets for minus-3 yards. Looking ahead to his age-32 season, it's certainly encouraging that Mostert won't have to rehab from surgery, as he has yet to show signs of losing a step. Across 15 regular-season appearances Mostert set a franchise record with 21 total scores, while rushing for 1,012 yards on 209 carries (4.8 YPC). With one more season left on his two-year deal, the stage looks set for Mostert to once again headline one of the NFL's most efficient rushing attacks alongside De'Von Achane during the 2024 campaign.
Jan 13, 2024
Stymied in season-ending loss
Mostert (knee/ankle) rushed eight times for 33 yards and brought in one of two targets for minus-3 yards in the Dolphins' 26-7 wild-card loss to the Chiefs on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
The veteran running back took the field for the first time since Week 16 after managing to practice in limited fashion throughout the week, but as his final line indicates, he was able to do little with his sparse opportunity. Both Mostert's carry and yardage totals were his second lowest since the start of the regular season, as the Chiefs progressively forced the Dolphins away from the ground game as Kansas City expanded its lead. The underwhelming final act of a once promising campaign was in stark contrast to Mostert's regular season numbers, which included a career-high 1,012 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns, as well as a franchise-record 21 total scores across 15 games. Mostert is on the books for a very reasonable $3.3 million cap hit in 2024, but he will likely face a significant challenge from De'Von Achane for the lead back job in training camp.
Jan 13, 2024
Suiting up Saturday
Mostert (knee/ankle) is listed as active for Saturday's wild-card game against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who missed the Dolphins' last two regular-season games as he contended with knee and ankle issues, was deemed limited on the team's practice reports Tuesday through Thursday and approached the contest listed as questionable. With the running back's active status confirmed, he'll have an opportunity to reclaim his key role in a Miami backfield that figures to be busy, with extreme cold weather on tap for Saturday's matchup in Kansas City. In that context, barring any in-game limitations or setbacks, Mostert should make an impact in his return to the mix, with De'Von Achane and Jeff Wilson, to a lesser degree, also available to handle their share of touches in the looming harsh playing conditions.
Jan 11, 2024
Gets questionable tag for Saturday
Mostert (knee/ankle) is listed as questionable for Saturday's wild-card game in Kansas City, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert missed the Dolphins' last two games of the regular season due to his lower-body injuries, but head coach Mike McDaniel expressed optimism Thursday about the running back's chances of playing in the postseason opener, per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com. Even so, Mostert will be carrying a designation ahead of Saturday's 8 p.m. ET kickoff, after the Dolphins listed him as a limited participant on each of their three practice reports this week. When healthy this season, Mostert has served as the lead option out of the Miami backfield, but if available Saturday, he could have to settle for the smaller side of a timeshare with dynamic rookie De'Von Achane, who filled in capably as the No. 1 back over the past two weeks.
Jan 10, 2024
Listed as limited again
Mostert (knee/ankle) is listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's injury report, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dolphins didn't practice Tuesday and held a walk-through Wednesday, allowing Mostert to get consecutive 'LP' tags without actually doing much. His participation Thursday should be more meaningful, and he told reporters Wednesday that he's feeling good but isn't sure what will happen for Saturday's game at Kansas City, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports. Mostert also mentioned that both his ankle and knee injuries are factors, with neither considered more concerning than the other, per Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post.
Jan 9, 2024
Opens week with limited listing
Mostert (knee/ankle) was listed as a limited participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert missed the final two games of the regular season due to his pair of lower-body injuries and will likely need to maintain limited participation in practice -- if not upgrade to full activity -- Wednesday and Thursday to ensure his availability for Saturday's wild-card matchup with the Chiefs. Even if he's cleared to play, Mostert could find himself in a timeshare with rookie De'Von Achane, who has remained efficient as a runner (6.8 yards per carry) and receiver (5.8 yards per target) over the past two weeks while taking on a larger workload.
Jan 8, 2024
Optimism for chances to play
Coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that he's optimistic Mostert (knee/ankle) will be able to play in Saturday's playoff game against the Chiefs, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
McDaniel said Mostert and Jaylen Waddle (ankle) both pushed to play against the Bills in Week 18, but the doctors advised against it, saying both players could do more damage. It sounds like a week off is what Mostert and Waddle needed. With all of the injuries on the defensive side of the ball for Miami, it needs all the help it can get on offense. Should Mostert play, he and De'Von Achane should carry the bulk of the load out of the backfield, with Jeff Wilson in tow as a third ball-carrying option.
Jan 7, 2024
Inactive Sunday
Mostert (knee/ankle) is inactive for Sunday night's game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who sat out last week's 56-19 loss to the Ravens, missed practices both Wednesday and Thursday before returning to a limited session Friday and approaching this weekend with an official 'questionable' injury designation. With Mostert deemed unavailable Sunday, and thus targeting a return to action in Miami's playoff opener next week, look for De'Von Achane to pace the team's Week 18 backfield, while Jeff Wilson should see his share of snaps in a complementary role. Meanwhile, Chris Brooks is also on hand to provide backfield depth versus the Bills.
Jan 7, 2024
Not expected to suit up Sunday
Mostert (knee) is unlikely to play in Sunday's Week 18 contest against Buffalo, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert entered the weekend with a questionable tag after logging a DNP/DNP/LP progression during Week 18 prep. Despite the stakes of Sunday's matchup versus the Bills -- the winner will take the AFC East title -- the running back appears in line to miss his second straight game to close out the regular season. It should be noted that the Dolphins have already clinched a playoff spot, so it bears wondering whether Mostert would have tried to give it a go had Sunday been a win-or-go-home scenario. Regardless, Pelissero suggests that Mostert "should be ready" once the postseason begins. In Mostert's likely absence Sunday, De'Von Achane should see the bulk of work out of Miami's backfield, while Jeff Wilson may also log a fair amount of offensive snaps.
Jan 5, 2024
Draws questionable tag for Sunday
Mostert (knee/ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been a regular on Miami injury reports throughout the season, but it wasn't until Week 17 that the running back missed his first game of the campaign. After sitting out last Sunday's 56-19 loss to the Ravens, Mostert remained a spectator for practices Wednesday and Thursday before taking the field Friday as a limited participant. If Mostert checked out fine in his return to practice, he could have a chance to play Sunday against the Bills, but clarity on his status one way or the other may not arrive until Miami posts its inactive list 90 minutes prior to the game's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff. Even if Mostert plays, he could be subject to a limited snap count, which may result in dynamic rookie De'Von Achane taking on the larger share of work out of the backfield.
Jan 5, 2024
Back on the field Friday
Mostert (knee/ankle) returned to practice Friday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert -- who was inactive in Week 17 -- logged back-to-back absences Wednesday and Thursday, but the running back's participation in Friday's practice suggests that he could potentially be available Sunday night against the Bills. The Dolphins' upcoming injury report is slated to add further context with regard to Mostert's status for Miami's regular-season finale.
Jan 4, 2024
Still not practicing
Mostert (knee/ankle) didn't practice Thursday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who sat out this past Sunday's 56-19 loss to the Ravens, has now logged back-to-back 'DNPs," which sets the stage for what (if anything) he's able to do at Friday's practice to loom large in terms of his Week 18 availability. If Mostert remains sidelined Sunday night against the Bills, De'Von Achane would be in line to lead Miami's backfield, with Jeff Wilson and Chris Brooks also in the mix.
Jan 4, 2024
Not seen at Thursday's practice
Mostert (knee/ankle) wasn't present for the media-access portion of Thursday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who was inactive for this past Sunday's 56-19 loss to the Ravens, also missed Wednesday's practice, so what the running back is able to do Friday will be telling with regard to his status ahead of this weekend's game against the Bills. In his absence versus Baltimore, De'Von Achane paced Miami's backfield, with Jeff Wilson and Chris Brooks mixing in.
Jan 3, 2024
No activity Wednesday
Mostert (knee/ankle) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert gutted through knee and ankle injuries Weeks 11-16, but it finally caught up to him this past Sunday at Baltimore, when the Dolphins made him inactive. After sitting out to begin Week 18 prep, he'll now have two more chances to mix into drills before the team potentially makes a ruling on his status for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Bills with the AFC East title on the line. Rookie De'Von Achane (toe/ribs) was limited Wednesday, so Miami's top two options out of the backfield continue to be banged up.
Dec 31, 2023
Missing first game of season
Mostert (knee/ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Though he's been a fixture on Miami injury reports throughout the 2023 campaign, Mostert will be missing his first game of the season in Week 17 after his pair of lower-body concerns kept him from practicing Wednesday and Thursday and limited his participation Friday. With the NFL's touchdown leader out Sunday, the Dolphins will turn the backfield over to standout rookie De'Von Achane, who could be primed to handle his largest workload of the season. Jeff Wilson should also see an expanded role as Achane's top backup, while rookie Chris Brooks is on hand to provide depth as Miami's No. 3 back.
Dec 31, 2023
Not in line to play Sunday
Mostert (knee/ankle) isn't expected to play Sunday at Baltimore, Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network report.
ANALYSIS
He's been playing through knee and ankle issues since Week 11, and even though the running back managed just one limited practice this week, coach Mike McDaniel told Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald on Friday that Mostert "should be good" to suit up this weekend. If Mostert indeed goes down as inactive about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, rookie De'Von Achane likely will be the Dolphins' lead option out of the backfield, with Jeff Wilson and Chris Brooks also on hand for any reps that linger.
Dec 29, 2023
Questionable for Week 17
Mostert (knee/ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest at Baltimore, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been tending to knee and ankle issues since Week 11 prep, but he's been able to suit up in each of the last six games, a span in which he turned 100 carries into 407 yards and seven touchdowns and hauled in six of eight targets for 24 yards and another score. He's been able to handle double-digit rushes on each occasion, and coach Mike McDaniel said Friday that Mostert "should be good" to play this weekend, per Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald. As a result, Mostert will handle his typical workload Sunday as long as he's not included among the Dolphins' inactives when they're posted approximately 90 minutes before a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 28, 2023
Not practicing Thursday
Mostert (ankle/knee) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Heraldreports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who also didn't participate in Wednesday's session, now has one more chance to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Ravens. Per Oyefusi, the running back is expected to be available this weekend, but unless Mostert practices fully Friday, there's a decent chance he ends up with a Week 17 injury designation.
Dec 28, 2023
Expected to play through injuries
Running backs coach Eric Studesville said Thursday he expects Mostert (ankle/knee) to suit up for Sunday's road matchup against the Ravens, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was sidelined at practice Wednesday due to ankle and knee issues, but as Jackson notes, the veteran back has played through lingering injuries all season and still appeared in all 15 games for Miami. It's worth noting, however, that Mostert played a season-low 19 offensive snaps during last week's win over the Cowboys, with coach Mike McDaniel noting that a decision to sit him after two third-quarter snaps was made due to pain management. It wouldn't be surprising to see Mostert continue to get rest at practice with a key matchup against Baltimore on deck Sunday. De'Von Achane (toe) and Jeff Wilson would be in line for larger workloads if Mostert's reps have to be capped in Week 17.
Dec 27, 2023
Sidelined at practice Wednesday
Mostert (ankle) wasn't spotted at Wednesday's practice, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was limited to a season-low 19 snaps against the Cowboys this past Sunday by an injury to his leg, but it's currently being termed an ankle injury, pending an updated designation on Miami's injury report. Regardless of the injury's exact nature, it's keeping Mostert off the practice field Wednesday, though coach Mike McDaniel expects the running back to be available Sunday in Baltimore, even with few or no practice reps leading up to the game.
Dec 27, 2023
Likely to play through ankle injury
Mostert is dealing with an ankle injury, but coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that he isn't concerned about the running back's availability for Sunday's game against the Ravens, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has dealt with various injuries to his leg in recent weeks, with knee, shin and ankle injuries popping up on the injury report. Per Daniel Oyefusi of The Miami Herald, Mostert will likely have his practice reps monitored during the week, but he's capable of playing Sunday even with limited practice reps. Mostert played a season-low 19 snaps in last week's win over Dallas, and a decreased workload for Mostert could lead to more opportunities for De'Von Achane and Jeff Wilson.
Dec 26, 2023
Plays season-low 19 snaps
Mostert (shin) played a season-low 19 snaps in last Sunday's Week 16 win over the Cowboys, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
"Raheem wanted to go in the game," coach Mike McDaniel said, via David Furones of the Sun Sentinel. "It was more that we could tell it was pretty painful at the time." Mostert briefly returned in the second half, but the Dolphins ultimately decided after two third-quarter snaps that his day was done. It's something to watch this week headed into an AFC clash with the Ravens. De'Von Achane and Jeff Wilson handled backfield duties while Mostert was sidelined.
Dec 24, 2023
Scores league-leading 21st TD
Mostert (ankle/knee) had 11 carries for 46 yards and caught his only target for a four-yard touchdown in Sunday's 22-20 win over the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's short score at the end of the first half wound up being Miami's only touchdown as the juggernaut offense uncharacteristically struggled in the red zone against Dallas. It was the veteran tailback's 21st touchdown of the season, temporarily putting him ahead of Christian McCaffrey for the league lead, with the latter still having yet to play in Week 16. Mostert ceded seven carries to De'Von Achane (7-24-0), but the former is the preferred fantasy option heading into next Sunday's tilt against Baltimore.
Dec 22, 2023
in clear for Week 16
Mostert (knee/ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
As has been the case for the past several weeks, Mostert has had his practice workload managed while he contends with lower-body injuries, but the Dolphins never provided any indication he was at serious risk of missing Sunday's game against the Cowboys. After sitting out Wednesday's practice, Mostert returned to a limited session Thursday and then took full reps Friday to guarantee his availability for Sunday. Mostert's top understudy, De'Von Achane (toe), has also avoided an injury designation despite not practicing this week, but Mostert still shapes up as a strong fantasy option even if he continues to occupy the larger side of a timeshare with Achane out of the backfield. After finding paydirt twice on the ground in last week's 30-0 win over the Jets, Mostert is up to 20 touchdowns on the season, tying him with the 49ers' Christian McCaffrey for the NFL lead.
Dec 21, 2023
Resting again Thursday
Mostert (knee/ankle/rest) didn't practice Thursday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Miami's inclusion of the term 'veteran rest' on the injury report suggests Mostert is in no actual danger of missing Sunday's game against the Cowboys. His practice workloads have been carefully managed all year -- as have his in-game workloads when the Dolphins build a significant lead -- but Mostert has been the unquestioned lead runner ahead of De'Von Achane in recent weeks apart from blowout scenarios. A matchup with the playoff-bound Cowboys theoretically could shift the carry distribution more toward Mostert, though it might instead work in Achane's favor if the Dolphins fall behind, as that the rookie has been getting most of the snaps in obvious passing situations recently (e.g. nine targets in an OT loss to the Titans in Week 14).
Dec 20, 2023
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Mostert (knee/ankle/veteran rest) was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's practice, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has kicked off the last three weeks with 'DNPs' while managing knee and ankle issues before approaching Miami's last three contests without an injury designation. Chances are, that's a pattern that will be repeated ahead of Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
Dec 17, 2023
Pads NFL lead with two rushing TDs
Mostert rushed 15 times for 42 yards and two touchdowns while catching both of his targets for one yard in Sunday's 30-0 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Mostert opened the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, then extended the lead to 24-0 with a one-yard rushing touchdown shortly before halftime. He had a chance to score a third touchdown but was stuffed for a loss of seven yards on a third-quarter carry from the 2-yard line. The pair of scores raised Mostert's league-leading rushing touchdown total to 18, with seven of those touchdowns coming in his last four games. Mostert will look to add to that impressive total in Week 16 against the stout Dallas defense.
Dec 15, 2023
No designation for Sunday
Mostert (knee) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game against the Jets, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been listed on Dolphins injury reports for exactly one month due to a knee issue, which contained him to a limited walkthrough Thursday and a capped practice Friday. No matter, he'll continue to be available to the team's backfield, while fellow running back De'Von Achane (toe) is entering the weekend as questionable after making just one limited appearance (Friday) this week. If Achane is inhibited or out Sunday, Mostert would be in line for a heavy workload while potentially yielding reps to some combination of Achane (if active) and/or Jeff Wilson.
Dec 14, 2023
Goes down as limited participant
Mostert (knee) was listed as a limited participant in Thursday's walk-through practice, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dolphins haven't held a formal practice following Monday's 28-27 loss to the Titans, but Mostert's limited listing for Thursday implies that he would have been able to take part in some drills if Miami had taken the field in full pads. Since late October, Mostert has been regularly featured on Miami injury reports due to ankle and knee issues, but he's yet to miss a game this season. Even if Mostert maintains limited practice activity Friday, he should still be in good shape to start Sunday's game against the Jets, but what kind of workload he handles may hinge on the availability of fellow running back De'Von Achane (toe). Achane has been estimated as a non-participant on both of the Dolphins' first two Week 15 injury reports, and head coach Mike McDaniel labeled the rookie back as an "unknown" for Sunday's game at this stage of the week, per Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald.
Dec 13, 2023
Sits out first Week 15 practice
Mostert (knee/veteran rest) is listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's estimated injury report.
ANALYSIS
Following Monday's 28-27 loss to the Titans, the Dolphins didn't hold an actual practice Wednesday, but Mostert would have sat out if the team convened for a workout. Mostert's projected practice absence shouldn't sound any alarms for fantasy managers, as he opened both of the past two weeks as a non-participant before taking double-digit carries in games against Washington and Tennessee. The Dolphins haven't provided any word that he suffered a setback with his knee coming out of Monday's contest, so he's likely just getting some extra maintenance on a short week before the Dolphins host the Jets on Sunday.
Dec 12, 2023
Racks up 100 total yards, two TDs
Mostert rushed 21 times for 96 yards and two touchdowns while catching his lone target for four yards in Monday's 28-27 loss to the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Mostert helped Miami work the ball down to the 2-yard line on its first drive, only to watch Tua Tagovailoa squander the red-zone opportunity with a fumble. The Dolphins made no mistake after being handed consecutive short fields by Tennessee fumbles in the fourth quarter, as Mostert scored from three and five yards one minute apart to give his team a 27-13 lead with 4:34 remaining. It was all Titans after that, though, as the visitors scored the game's final 15 points to pick up their first road win and hand the Dolphins their first home loss. Mostert finished with 21 carries to De'Von Achane's seven, so the veteran running back is operating as the top rushing option in Miami's speedy backfield heading into a Week 15 visit from the Jets, whom Mostert burned for two touchdowns in Week 12.
Dec 9, 2023
Ready to play Monday
Mostert (knee) does not carry an injury designation into Monday's matchup against the Giants, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dolphins limited the practice reps of Mostert and Tyreek Hill (ankle) all week, but neither seemed in much danger of missing Monday's primetime contest. While De'Von Achane has been a perfect tandem for Mostert this season, the veteran running back has compiled a commanding lead in playing time when games have been competitive. Unfortunately for fantasy managers given the Titans' formidable run defense, it's possible Mostert could put together another ho-hum day before the offensive wizardry of Tua Tagovailoa and company put the score out of reach, thus giving way to more opportunities for Achane.
Dec 8, 2023
Limited in return to practice
Mostert (knee) was a limited participant in Friday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's reps were capped in his return to practice after he sat out Thursday's session entirely, but his absence a day earlier was likely at least in some part rest-related. With the Dolphins providing no indication that Mostert is dealing with a setback with his knee after he saw his lightest snap count of the season (23) in this past Sunday's 45-15 win over the Commanders, the expectation is that the running back will be ready to work in tandem with De'Von Achane on Monday night against the Titans. Mostert will be able to clear up any lingering concern about his availability by turning in a full practice Saturday.
Dec 7, 2023
Gets maintenance day Thursday
Mostert (knee/rest) was a non-participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Along with Mostert, wide receiver Tyreek Hill (ankle) and offensive tackle Kendall Lamm (back) had "vet rest" attributed to their absences from practice along with their listed injuries, so it's safe to conclude that all three were mainly held out for maintenance purposes more so than because of any concern about their health. Mostert has been a fixture on Miami injury reports this season but has yet to miss a game, and he's logged more than 50 percent of the offensive snaps in all but two of his 12 appearances. He took on a season-low 39 percent share in this past weekend's 45-15 win over the Commanders, though that may have largely been a byproduct of Miami racing out to a 24-point halftime lead.
Dec 3, 2023
Finds end zone on quiet day
Mostert rushed 11 times for 43 yards and a touchdown and brought in his only target for eight yards in the Dolphins' 45-15 win over the Commanders on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
As expected, the Dolphins' passing game took center stage Sunday in a matchup that lined up particularly well on paper, but Mostert was able to salvage an otherwise non-descript day with a one-yard scoring plunge late in the first half. Mostert was eventually outgained by returning rookie De'Von Achane, who got plenty of garbage-time opportunity, but it appears the former remains the top early-down option in Miami's backfield heading into a Week 14 home matchup against a tough Titans run defense on Monday night, Dec. 11.
Dec 1, 2023
Good to go
Mostert (ankle/knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at the Commanders, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert played through the same injury last week en route to a 20-89-2 rushing line and then managed limited practices this Thursday and Friday. The real threat to his value is the return of De'Von Achane, who was a full participant Friday and also enters Sunday without an injury designation. Mostert is still worth starting in most leagues, as he was productive with Achane in the lineup earlier this season and is facing a Washington defense that ranks 20th in fantasy points allowed to RBs and 23rd in YPC allowed (4.33) to the position.
Nov 30, 2023
Limited in return to practice
Mostert (ankle/knee) returned to a limited practice Thursday, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing Wednesday session, Mostert upgraded to limited participation Thursday, an activity level maintained by fellow RB De'Von Achane (knee). Friday's injury report should add a degree of clarity with regard the duo's chances of suiting up Sunday against the Commanders, but so far there's been nothing to suggest that Mostert is in danger of being sidelined this weekend.
Nov 30, 2023
Back at practice
Mostert (ankle/knee) returned to practice Thursday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert didn't practice Wednesday, so the running back's return to Thursday's session has him moving in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Commanders. Miami's looming injury report is slated to reveal Mostert's official participation level in his return to the field.
Nov 29, 2023
No practice to start week
Mostert (ankle/knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was listed with the same pair of injuries last week and ended up taking 20 carries for 94 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-13 win over the Jets. He'll likely be able to play again this Sunday against the Commanders, though there's a chance he'll have to share some of the RB snaps with De'Von Achane, who has been listed as a limited practice participant since reinjuring his knee in a Week 11 win over Las Vegas. Achane missed Week 12 but isn't expected to require another long-term absence.
Nov 24, 2023
Adds two rushing TDs, up to 13
Mostert rushed 20 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns while failing to catch his only target in Friday's 34-13 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
With De'Von Achane (knee) inactive for the fifth time in the last six games, Mostert handled 20 of Miami's 33 carries by running backs. He was quiet for most of the game but got going late after New York's defense wore down. Mostert scored from 13 yards out in the fourth quarter, giving him sole possession of the league lead with 12 rushing touchdowns, then bolstered that total with a 34-yard touchdown two drives later. Achane was close to suiting up for Friday's game, so he'll likely be available to split carries with Mostert against the Commanders in Week 13.
Nov 24, 2023
Should remain lead back sans Achane
Mostert is expected to serve as the Dolphins' clear lead back Friday against the Jets while De'Von Achane (knee) is inactive for the contest.
ANALYSIS
In the three games before Achane landed on injured reserve Oct. 11, he and Mostert had been splitting work out of the backfield. Mostert proceeded to see more than 50 percent of the snaps on offense and averaged 13.8 touches while Achane was sidelined over the subsequent four contests, and he then handled a 78 percent snap share and 22 carries - both season highs - with Achane being limited to just three snaps in his return to action in this past Sunday's win over Las Vegas. With Achane back on the sideline for Week 12 and with another running back in Salvon Ahmed (foot) ruled out for the season, Jeff Wilson should step in as the Dolphins' No. 2 option after being inactive last week. Mostert still appears likely to dominate the backfield work for as long as Friday's contest remains competitive.
Nov 23, 2023
Set to face Jets
Mostert (ankle/knee) doesn't carry an injury designation for Friday's game against the Jets, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Mostert is managing ankle and knee issues and was listed as limited on Thursday's practice estimate, he'll be available for Friday's contest. Meanwhile, De'Von Achane (knee) is listed as questionable and if he's unavailable versus New York, Jeff Wilson and Darrynton Evans would be in line to work behind Mostert in Miami's Week 12 backfield.
Nov 22, 2023
Remains limited Wednesday
Mostert (ankle/knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has appeared on both of the Dolphins' first two Week 12 practice reports as a limited participant due to the pair of injuries, but the team seems to be capping his reps as a matter of load management rather than as a result of any concern about his availability for Friday's game against the Jets. Instead, the status of fellow running back De'Von Achane (knee) -- who was a limited practice participant Wednesday -- appears to be more up in the air than Mostert's as Friday's game approaches. If Achane isn't able to play Friday, Jeff Wilson or Salvon Ahmed would likely serve as the top understudy to Mostert, who carried a season-high 22 times in this past Sunday's win over the Raiders.
Nov 21, 2023
Opens week with limited listing
Mostert (ankle/knee) was listed as limited on Tuesday's estimated practice report, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Like fellow running back De'Von Achane (knee), Mostert had a cap on his reps at Tuesday's walkthrough. However, Mostert is dealing with the ankle and knee injuries that limited during the entirety of Week 11 prep, which didn't stop him from logging 86 percent of snaps en route to 23 touches for 93 yards from scrimmage this past Sunday against the Raiders. In that same contest, Achane departed early with an injury to the same knee that forced an IR stint prior to his recent return to action. There's a chance Achane will be able to play Friday at the Jets, but if he's inhibited or out and Mostert is able to suit up again, the latter likely will be the Dolphins' lead RB in Week 12.
Nov 19, 2023
Big workload in Week 11 win
Mostert rushed 22 times for 86 yards and brought in one of two targets for seven yards in the Dolphins' 20-13 win over the Raiders on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mostert took on what was likely a higher workload than expected when De'Von Achane exited in the first quarter with a knee injury. The combination of the rookie's absence beginning in the second quarter, the inactive status of Jeff Wilson and a favorable game script conspired to afford Mostert his highest workload of the season. Mostert also logged his first reception since Week 7, but with head coach Mike McDaniel saying after the game Achane's exit was merely precautionary after he landed on his recently injured knee, Mostert could be back to a more abbreviated touch count in a Week 12 road matchup against the Jets on Friday afternoon.
Nov 17, 2023
No Week 11 injury designation
Mostert (ankle/knee) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Raiders after being limited in practice this week, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert is thus slated to play through his ankle and knee issues this weekend, and it looks like he'll probably be joined in Miami's Week 11 backfield by De'Von Achane (knee), who the Dolphins list as questionable, but is trending toward being activated from IR ahead of Sunday's contest. If that occurs, Achane would figure to work in some form of time share with Mostert, though even in that context both players would merit fantasy lineup consideration.
Nov 16, 2023
Limited again Thursday
Mostert (ankle/knee) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite having the benefit of a Week 10 bye, Mostert's reps are still being managed heading into Sunday's matchup with the Raiders while he tends to a pair of injuries. Mostert has now been limited in both of the Dolphins' first two practices, but if he upgrades to full activity Friday, he should be cleared to enter the weekend without a designation. If available Sunday, Mostert will presumably handle his usual starting role, though he could cede more snaps and touches than he had in previous weeks with De'Von Achane (knee) seemingly tracking toward a return from injured reserve this week.
Nov 15, 2023
Limited in practice
Mostert (ankle/knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The same goes for fellow running back De'Von Achane, who was designated to return from injured reserve after missing four games with a knee injury. There's a better-than-decent chance the Dolphins have both Achane and Mostert available after a Week 10 bye, in which case the two running backs would figure to split work Sunday against the Raiders. They made it work for fantasy managers earlier this year, but Mostert's production slipped the past month even with Achane out of the lineup, in part because Miami's offense slowed down overall. A home matchup with Las Vegas certainly offers a nice opportunity for Tua Tagovailoa and Co. to get back on track.
Nov 13, 2023
Not practicing Monday
Mostert (undisclosed) is not participating in Monday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Monday's practice is unofficial, so the Dolphins won't release an injury report to confirm Mostert's status, but it's possible he's simply benefiting from a veteran rest day. Mostert appeared fully healthy entering the team's bye, but with De'Von Achane (knee) having been designated for a return from IR, the backfield situation warrants close monitoring heading into Sunday's game against the Raiders. If both Mostert and Achane are cleared to play, they will stand to split time as effective co-starters.
Nov 5, 2023
Bright spot in Miami offense
Mostert rushed the ball 12 times for 85 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Chiefs. He was targeted once.
ANALYSIS
Miami was unable to get their typically explosive passing attack going against Kansas City, and much of their success came from Mostert. He accounted for one of the team's two gains of more than 20 yards, as well as a 13-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. Mostert also dominated work on the ground and should see his volume increase when the Dolphins play from ahead.
Nov 3, 2023
Good to go for Frankfurt game
Mostert (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Kansas City, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was limited in practice Thursday and Friday after Wednesday's DNP, but he avoided an injury designation, sparing his fantasy managers the headache of having to check on the running back's status before Sunday's 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff from Frankfurt, Germany. Miami will be facing a Kansas City defense that will be missing key linebacker Nick Bolton (wrist) and possibly Willie Gay (lower back) as well, so Mostert could be in for a busy day if he's able to handle a full workload without being hindered by his ankle.
Nov 2, 2023
Logs limited practice
Mostert (ankle) was limited in his return to practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who missed practice Wednesday, noted earlier Thursday that there had been a "hiccup" with his ankle, but the running back added that he received treatment for the issue and is feeling better at this stage. Mostert's return to the field, albeit in a limited capacity, has him trending in the right direction as Sunday's game against the Chiefs approaches, but he'll likely need to log a full practice Friday in order to avoid a Week 9 injury designation.
Nov 2, 2023
Returns to practice Thursday
Mostert (ankle) returned to practice Thursday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been missing practice time with the ankle issue the last two weeks and was DNP Wednesday in Germany. His return to the field Thursday would suggest Mostert is on track to face the Chiefs Sunday morning. Mostert led the Dolphins with 13 carries last week against New England, rushing for 46 yards and one touchdown. Jeff Wilson handled five, and Salvon Ahmed was next up with two.
Nov 1, 2023
Sits out Wednesday's practice
Mostert (ankle) was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's practice, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert carried the ankle injury into Week 8 prep, when he sat out Wednesday's practice before being listed as a limited participant Thursday and Friday. He took a questionable tag into the Dolphins' eventual 31-17 win over the Patriots, but Mostert proceeded to suit up and carried 13 times for 46 yards and a touchdown while handling a 55 percent snap share on offense. The Dolphins haven't indicated that Mostert suffered a setback with the ankle coming out of the Week 8 contest, so his absence from practice to begin Week 9 prep could well be maintenance related. So long as Mostert is able to resume practicing in some capacity by the end of the week, he should once again lead the Miami backfield this Sunday versus the Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany.
Oct 29, 2023
Scores TD with limited opportunity
Mostert rushed 13 times for 46 yards and a touchdown and wasn't targeted in the passing game in the Dolphins' 31-17 win over the Patriots on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mostert turned in a much less efficient effort than usual on the ground and was surprisingly uninvolved in the air attack. However, he posted a serviceable fantasy performance anyhow thanks to his one-yard touchdown rush midway through the third quarter. Mostert still comfortably paced the ground attack in carries despite Jeff Wilson seeing his rush attempts climb to five in his second game of the campaign, and the workload split between the two will bear monitoring in a Week 9 showdown against the Chiefs in Germany.
Oct 29, 2023
Suits up Sunday
Mostert (ankle) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Mostert sat out practice Wednesday but was able to log limited sessions both Thursday and Friday. While he was officially listed as questionable heading into the weekend, NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe relayed Friday that Mostert indicated he planned to play Sunday after working through what Wolfe's report described as a minor ankle tweak. With the running back's Week 8 active status confirmed, Mostert - who is averaging 5.6 yards per carry this season, while having racked up a total of 11 TDs in seven games -- should continue to lead a Dolphins' backfield that also includes Jeff Wilson, who could be more involved in his second game back since returning from IR, with Salvon Ahmed also on hand.
Oct 29, 2023
Expected to face Patriots
Mostert (ankle), who is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against New England, is expected to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert missed Wednesday's practice due to what looks like a minor ankle tweak, but he managed to return as a limited participant Thursday and Friday. The speedy veteran stands to lead Miami's backfield versus the Patriots, though with Jeff Wilson now having had multiple weeks to get back in shape after his return from IR, the workload at running back could end up being split slightly more evenly. Of course, with Mostert already having scored a career-high nine rushing touchdowns in seven appearances this season, he remains a must-start fantasy option when on the field. His status will be made official roughly 90 minutes ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Oct 27, 2023
Questionable, but likely to play
The Dolphins list Mostert (ankle) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite carrying a designation into the weekend, Mostert told Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network earlier Friday that he will play Sunday. Mostert was a non-participant Wednesday in the Dolphins' first practice of the week, but he said he was merely dealing with a minor ankle tweak. Mostert returned to the field as a limited participant Thursday and Friday, with the back-to-back days of activity seemingly backing up the running back's own optimism about his health. Though Mostert should be ready to fill his typically starting role Sunday, he could end up taking on a lighter workload than usual, especially now that Jeff Wilson has had more time to get ramped up after he was limited to just seven snaps on offense in his return from injured reserve during last week's loss to the Eagles.
Oct 26, 2023
Limited in return to practice
Mostert (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert and Tyreek Hill (hip) both sat out Wednesday's session, but Miami's top running back and top wideout were back on the field a day later. Assuming Mostert can upgrade to full participation Friday, he should have a good chance at entering Sunday's game against the Patriots without an injury designation.
Oct 26, 2023
Returns to practice
Mostert (ankle) was back at practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
After he missed Wednesday's practice, Mostert's return to the field a day later bodes well for his chances of being available for Sunday's game against the Patriots. The Dolphins' upcoming injury report will clarify whether Mostert was limited or worked fully Thursday.
Oct 25, 2023
Bothered by ankle
Mostert missed Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The last time Mostert missed a practice was Wednesday of Week 2, when he returned to full participation the following day and then put up 121 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-17 win over the Patriots. A return to practice Thursday would put him on track for another matchup with New England, this time at home in Miami rather than on the road. If Mostert's ankle injury turns to be a real problem, the Dolphins can turn to Salvon Ahmed and/or Jeff Wilson.
Oct 25, 2023
Not spotted at start of practice
Mostert (undisclosed) didn't participate in the media-access portion of practice Wednesday, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
He may be dealing with a minor injury, though nothing was reported during or after Sunday's 31-17 loss to the Eagles. Miami's healthy backfield options behind Mostert are Salvon Ahmed and Jeff Wilson, a duo that combined for only four touches Sunday night.
Oct 23, 2023
Leads backfield with 10 touches
Mostert had nine carries for 45 yards and one reception on three targets for six yards in Sunday's 31-17 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's 10 touches tied his previous low for the season, but he maintained a lofty mark of 5.6 yards per carry despite the low usage. Both of the veteran back's down games have unsurprisingly come in losses, as teams generally throw more while playing from behind. These sporadic games with low touch counts could wind up being a blessing in disguise over the course of the schedule for a player with Mostert's injury history. The 31-year-old has already amassed 103 combined touches through seven weeks after recording 212 over 16 games in 2022. Mostert and the Dolphins' entire offense will look to get back to their high-scoring ways in a home game against New England next Sunday.
Oct 15, 2023
Three touchdowns against Panthers
Mostert rushed the ball 17 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 42-21 win over the Panthers. He added three catches for 17 yards and an additional score.
ANALYSIS
Mostert led Miami's backfield with a season-high 20 touches, and he dominated opportunity when the game was in question. He used the additional volume to record his second 100-yard rushing performance of the campaign, highlighted by a long gain of 48 yards. Mostert also continued to benefit from the incredibly efficient Dolphins' offense with his third multi-score effort of the year, and he now has 11 total touchdowns in only six games. That's very unlikely to continue, and he could also have to share the backfield in Week 7 against the Eagles, as Jeff Wilson (ribs) appears poised to return from injured reserve.
Oct 10, 2023
Looks set to lead backfield
Mostert appears locked in as Miami's clear top back for the team's Week 6 matchup against the Panthers with De'Von Achane (knee) reportedly week-to-week, Marcel-Louis Jacques of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert could lead the Dolphins' backfield for a significant time, with Achane reportedly a candidate for IR, though he has only surpassed 15 carries in a single game on one occasion this season. Chris Brooks and Salvon Ahmed will both be options to handle expanded reserve roles, and Jeff Wilson (ribs) looks set to have his practice window opened this week, but Mostert is the only member of Miami's running back corps capable of replicating Achane's explosiveness. Mostert already has eight total touchdowns through five contests, and two games with 100-plus scrimmage yards, making him a must-start fantasy option against Carolina's vulnerable run defense.
Oct 8, 2023
Compiles 78 total yards in win
Mostert rushed 10 times for 65 yards and a touchdown and brought in both targets for 13 yards in the Dolphins' 31-16 win over the Giants on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by Miami.
ANALYSIS
Mostert logged one fewer carry than dynamic backfield mate De'Von Achane, but he was efficient and recorded his seventh rushing touchdown of the season on a two-yard run on the final play of the third quarter. Achane's electric play makes it difficult to keep him off the field for extended stretches, but Mostert's own explosiveness and pass-catching ability has helped him remain relevant in Miami's aggressive offense. Mostert next takes aim at a soft Panthers run defense in a Week 6 home matchup.
Oct 1, 2023
Forgettable day in blowout loss
Mostert rushed seven times for nine yards and secured three of five targets for 36 yards in the Dolphins' 48-20 loss to the Bills on Sunday. He also committed two fumbles, losing one.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was absolutely stymied on the ground while rookie teammate De'Von Achane broke loose for 92 additional yards and two touchdowns on just one additional carry. Mostert's late-third-quarter fumble was costly as well, as it came at the Dolphins' 32-yard line and led to a Bills field goal when Miami was already down by 14. Achane's rapid ascension could certainly begin threatening Mostert's lead-back role, but the latter will look to make a convincing case for holding on to the top job in a Week 5 home matchup against the Giants.
Sep 24, 2023
Four total TDs in record win
Mostert rushed 13 times for 82 yards and three touchdowns and secured all seven targets for 60 yards and another score in the Dolphins' 70-20 win over the Broncos on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was actually outshined statistically by rookie backup De'Von Achane as the Dolphins compiled an NFL-record point total, but not before turning in a career-best four-touchdown performance. The veteran back found the end zone on the ground from 20, three and one yard out before adding a 19-yard scoring reception late in the third quarter during which he made multiple nifty cutbacks on the left side of the field on his way to the goal line. Achane ended up eclipsing the 200-yard mark and scored four times in his own right, but Mostert projects to continue as the lead back in a Week 4 divisional road showdown against the Bills next Sunday.
Sep 18, 2023
Carries offense with two TDs
Mostert (knee) carried the ball 18 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns while catching his lone target for six yards in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was already on his way to strong performance before ripping off a 41-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the Dolphins up for good. The veteran back was not limited by the minor knee injury he was dealing with during the practice week, commanding 18 carries with no other Miami back seeing more than three. Mostert has certainly outperformed his ADP so far, and he will look to keep things rolling against the Broncos next Sunday.
Sep 14, 2023
Turns in full practice
Mostert (knee) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
The Dolphins held Mostert out of their first practice of the week Wednesday, but David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel relays that the running back's absence was more of a veteran's rest day than the result of any concern about the health of his knee. Mostert backed up that report by taking every rep at practice a day later, clearing the way for him to serve as Miami's lead back in Sunday's game at New England. Though he played 72 percent of the snaps on offense and received 12 touches (10 carries, two receptions) in the Dolphins' season-opening win over the Chargers, Mostert could see a slight reduction in his workload Sunday with rookie third-round pick De'Von Achane (shoulder) seemingly trending toward playing after sitting out Week 1.
Sep 14, 2023
Back at practice
Mostert (knee) was spotted at Thursday's practice, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert didn't practice Wednesday, which Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network suggested was rest and maintenance-related. Now that he's back on the field, Mostert is trending toward active status Sunday night against the Patriots, though he'll probably need to log a full practice by Friday in order to avoid a Week 2 injury designation.
Sep 13, 2023
Wednesday absence downplayed
Mostert (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, but Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network suggests that the running back's absence was maintenance-related.
ANALYSIS
That's a notion echoed by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, who indicated Wednesday that there's "nothing of great concern percolating" with Mostert ahead of Week 2 action. We'll check back on the running back's status Thursday, but as long as he takes the field in some capacity the next time the Dolphins practice, he'll be trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday night's game against the Patriots.
Sep 13, 2023
Misses practice due to knee
Mostert (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, David Furones of the Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has a lengthy injury history, including knee injuries that limited him to one game in 2021 and bothered him for part of last season. It's possible that this was more of a maintenance day for Miami's lead back after he had 12 touches in the team's 36-34 Week 1 win over the Chargers, but those relying on Mostert in fantasy will hope to see him back on the practice field Thursday or Friday, especially since the Dolphins don't play until SNF in Week 2. Salvon Ahmed was Mostert's primary backup in Week 1, but rookie third-round pick De'Von Achane (shoulder) was a full participant Wednesday and could be called upon to make his NFL debut in primetime against New England.
Sep 11, 2023
Serves as primary back
Mostert rushed the ball 10 times for 37 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 36-34 win over the Chargers. He added two receptions for 13 yards.
ANALYSIS
The Dolphins took to the air aggressively, leaving Mostert with a modest carry total. However, he paced the backfield, as no other back saw more than three total touches, and he also showed the ability to be effective in the role by tallying 31 yards and his touchdown during the team's second drive of the game. Miami will likely be in for a different game script in Week 2 against New England, which could mean Mostert sees more work on the ground.
Sep 6, 2023
Backups healthy
Mostert will be joined by backups De'Von Achane (shoulder) and Salvon Ahmed (neck), both of whom practiced in full Wednesday, during Sunday's regular-season opener against the Chargers, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert still has a clear path to the lead role for Miami following the placement of Jeff Wilson (abdomen) on IR, but having both Achane and Ahmed healthy could limit his upside as a full workhorse back. Of course, at age 31, Mostert can probably best be utilized without approaching double-digit touches. He still projects as the Dolphins' clear top back, but it the distribution of opportunities between Achane and Ahmed remains uncertain. Ahmed's familiarity with Miami's system could give him the upper hand, but Achane boasts the more intriguing skillset and an investment of third-round draft capital.
Aug 31, 2023
Becomes clear lead back
The Dolphins look primed to lean on Mostert as the clear No. 1 backfield option Week 1 versus the Chargers with Jeff Wilson (abdomen) now on IR and De'Von Achane (shoulder) still not taking contact at practice, Mike Jones of the Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert led Miami on the ground last season with 181 carries for 891 yards and three scores across 16 games, but he split time relatively evenly with Wilson when both were healthy and on the field. The two appeared primed for another timeshare to start the 2023 campaign, with Achane also mixing in when 100 percent, but Wilson's placement on IR leaves Mostert as a candidate for workhorse status to begin the year. Achane, a rookie third-round pick, could be the primary beneficiary of increased touches when healthy, but he was still in a red jersey at practice Wednesday and is considered week-to-week. Salvon Ahmed (neck) is the next best candidate to spell Mostert in Week 1's season opener against the Chargers, but he's currently day-to-day. UDFA Chris Brooks is the only other RB on the Dolphins' roster.
Aug 26, 2023
Totals 18 yards in preseason finale
Mostert rushed four times for seven yards and brought in his only target for 11 yards in the Dolphins' 31-18 preseason loss to the Jaguars on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was the first Dolphins running back to log a touch and he played with the rest of the starters for the first two possessions overall. Beginning with the Sunday, Sept. 10 season-opening clash against the Chargers, Mostert should be slotting into a fairly even timeshare with Jeff Wilson (undisclosed), although the fact the latter missed all three preseason games does put his status for Week 1 into question for the time being.
Aug 19, 2023
Starts preseason win Saturday
Mostert rushed six times for 30 yards and a touchdown and was not targeted out of the backfield in Saturday's 28-3 preseason win over Houston.
ANALYSIS
Mostert made his preseason debut with the rest of the key offensive starters after sitting out the exhibition opener last Friday. The 31-year-old was a key part of a 93-yard scoring drive that featured a two-yard touchdown run. Mostert figures to head Miami's backfield rotation similar to last season when he posted a career-high 891 rushing yards with five total touchdowns across 16 games. Jeff Wilson (undisclosed) will serve as the primary backup despite not appearing in a preseason game to date. Rookie De'Von Achane was vying for touches as well, but the rookie third-round pick suffered an apparent shoulder injury Saturday with unknown severity. If the rookie is forced to miss significant time, Mostert's hold on the starting job would tighten as Week 1 approaches.
Aug 11, 2023
Not slated to play Friday
Mostert is not in line to play in Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to felow RB Jeff Wilson (undisclosed), which sets the stage for some combo of De'Von Achane, Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed and Chris Brooks to log Miami's backfield snaps in Friday's contest. Mostert's next chance to log preseason work will arrive next Saturday against the Texans.
Mar 14, 2023
Staying with Dolphins
Mostert is slated to sign a two-year deal to remain with the Dolphins, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Pelissero, the running back's two-year pact is for $5.6 million, with $2.2 million guaranteed. This past season, Mostert recorded 181 carries for 891 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games with Miami, while adding 31 catches for 202 yards and two receiving scores. Looking ahead, Mostert -- who is presumably past a thumb injury that he sustained in the playoffs -- is in line to remain a a key cog in the Dolphins' rushing attack, with the team likely to continue to bolster its backfield depth this offseason through free agency and the draft.
Jan 20, 2023
Records bounce back year in Miami
Mostert (thumb) had 181 carries for 891 yards and three touchdowns across 16 appearances with the Dolphins in 2022. He also secured 31 of 42 targets for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
ANALYSIS
Mostert bounced back in impressive fashion by reuniting with coach Mike McDaniel on a one-year deal in Miami, but he's scheduled to hit free agency during the 2023 offseason. The same is true for in-season trade addition Jeff Wilson, along with Salvon Ahmed Myles Gaskin. This year's class of free agent and rookie running backs promises serious potential, so it remains to be seen whether the Dolphins will have serious interest in bringing back the 30-year-old veteran. A broken thumb sidelined Mostert during Miami's wild-card loss to the Bills, but there's no indication he's in danger of missing any offseason activities.
Jan 13, 2023
Ruled out for wild-card round
Mostert (thumb) has been ruled out for Sunday's playoff game in Buffalo, Adam Beasley of Pro Football Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert will be sidelined by the broken thumb he suffered in the Week 18 win over the Jets. Miami will roll out a shorthanded offense against the Bills, with third-stringer Skylar Thompson under center. Jeff Wilson figures to lead the backfield in Mostert's absence, with Salvon Ahmed spelling him. Mostert's absence also creates a vacancy at kick returner, which could be filled by Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill or Cedrick Wilson (hip/groin).
Jan 12, 2023
Remains sidelined Thursday
Mostert (thumb) wasn't present for Thursday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert also didn't practice Wednesday, with a thumb injury clouding the running back's status for Sunday's playoff game against the Bills. If Mostert is unavailable this weekend, added snaps would presumably be available for Jeff Wilson (illness), who logged a limited session Wednesday.
Jan 11, 2023
Not at practice
Mostert (thumb) isn't practicing Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
This was to be expected after coach Mike McDaniel used the teams "serious" and "significant break" to describe the thumb fracture Mostert suffered in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets. Backfield mate Jeff Wilson could see a larger share of the workload than usual even if Mostert ends up playing, as the thumb fracture will impact his pass-catching at the very least.
Jan 9, 2023
Significant break in thumb
Coach Mike McDaniel indicated that the thumb injury Mostert suffered Sunday against the Jets is "serious," David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
With the running back having sustained what McDaniel described as a "significant break" in his thumb, Mostert's status for this weekend's game against the Bills is iffy, at best. With that in mind, McDaniel noted "it's hard to know if he'll be able to play this week. I never put anything past Raheem Mostert." If, however, Mostert is unavailable against Buffalo, Jeff Wilson would be in line to see an expanded role in Miami's backfield, with Salvon Ahmed in reserve.
Jan 9, 2023
Has broken thumb
Mostert suffered a broken thumb in Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Miami's playoff berth-clinching win. It remains to be seen whether Mostert will be capable of playing through this injury in the wild-card round against the Bills. If Mostert's unable to suit up Sunday in Buffalo, Jeff Wilson would likely take on a workhorse role in Miami's backfield.
Jan 8, 2023
Injures thumb Sunday
Mostert sustained a thumb injury during Sunday's contest versus the Jets, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit early in the fourth quarter, Mostert had 11 carries for 71 yards and hauled in both targets for minus-10 yards. Jeff Wilson will handle most of the backfield work for the Dolphins as long as Mostert is sidelined.
Jan 1, 2023
Effective through air in loss
Mostert had nine carries for 29 yards and secured all eight of his targets for 62 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 23-21 loss to New England.
ANALYSIS
Mostert logged less carries than Jeff Wilson (nine) but was the only member of Miami's backfield to score Week 17, while also leading the team in receiving yardage. The veteran's receiving usage was at least in part a product of working with Teddy Bridgewater (finger) to start the day before he was replaced by Skylar Thompson, and the Dolphins deploying an offensive plan focused on short area completions. Mostert and Wilson stand to continue operating as a timeshare during Week 18's regular-season finale versus the Jets.
Dec 25, 2022
Tough day in loss to Green Bay
Mostert carried the ball eight times for 45 yards and caught two of three targets for four yards in Sunday's 26-20 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
The running back got off to a quick start, gaining 14 and 17 yards on his first two totes, but Mostert got contained after that and committed a fumble late in the second quarter that led to a Packers field goal and kicked off a Green Bay comeback from a 20-10 deficit. Mostert has failed to reach 50 rushing yards in three of the last four games but popped for 156 scrimmage yards in the fourth, making him a high-risk, high-reward option in Week 17 against the Patriots.
Dec 18, 2022
Season-best yardage total in loss
Mostert rushed 17 times for 136 yards, secured one of two targets for 20 yards and returned one kickoff for 28 yards in the Dolphins' 32-29 loss to the Bills on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Nearly half of the veteran running back's rushing production came on a 67-yard run late in the first quarter that set up a Jason Sanders field goal. Mostert's rushing yardage tally produced his second 100-yard effort of the campaign and was his highest since Week 13 of the 2019 season when he and Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel were both with the 49ers. Mostert's lead-back role came as a result of the absence of Jeff Wilson (hip), but if the latter is back for the Week 16 Christmas Day home battle against the Packers, the former's workload is expected to take a hit.
Dec 12, 2022
Contained in defeat
Mostert rushed 11 times for 37 yards and caught his lone target for seven yards in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was bottled up in a matchup that looked favorable on paper. Miami's passing attack struggled early and forced the offense to abandon the run despite the Chargers' vulnerability to the rush in 2022. Fellow running back Jeff Wilson Jr. suffered a hip injury and did not return after halftime. If he is unable to suit up with the upcoming short week, then Mostert would have the backfield to himself against the Bills on Saturday.
Dec 4, 2022
Garners seven carries
Mostert finished with seven carries for 30 yards in Sunday's 33-17 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Mostert garnered all but one of Miami's rushing attempts, but the team's reliance on the pass Sunday capped his involvement overall. In fact, Mostert's seven carries marked his fewest since Week 1. With his two-game touchdown streak snapped against his former team Sunday as well, Mostert will hope to hear his number called more often in Week 14 versus the Chargers.
Dec 2, 2022
Cleared to return in Week 13
Mostert (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the 49ers after practicing fully Friday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing the Dolphins' Week 12 win over Houston, Mostert is poised to re-enter the team's backfield mix Sunday against his former team. In the process, Mostert is in line to work in a time-share alongside Jeff Wilson, a context that makes Mostert a hit-or-miss fantasy option in his looming return to action, given a degree of uncertainty regarding his potential volume versus San Francisco.
Dec 1, 2022
Logs another limited practice
Mostert (knee) remained limited at practice Thursday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who missed the Dolphins' Week 12 win over the Texans, has now logged back-to-back limited sessions and is trending toward a return to action Sunday against the 49ers. The running back will presumably need to practice fully Friday, however, in order to head into the weekend minus an injury designation.
Nov 30, 2022
Starts week limited in practice
Mostert (knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday morning that he expects Mostert to return for Sunday's game in San Francisco against his former team after missing the Week 12 win over Houston. It'll also be a reunion for McDaniel and fellow running back Jeff Wilson, who took 78 percent of the snaps before halftime in Sunday's 30-15 win over Houston before handing things over to Myles Gaskin once the Dolphins built a huge lead. Wilson is unlikely to handle to handle such a large snap share if Mostert does indeed return this week, but Wilson was getting more work between the two before Mostert's knee injury popped up.
Nov 30, 2022
Trending toward return Sunday
Coach Mike McDaniel indicated Wednesday that Mostert (knee) "should be ready to go" Sunday against the 49ers, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
The reports relays that Mostert was close to playing this past weekend against the Texans, but the team elected to err on the side of caution with the running back. Assuming Mostert progresses through practice this week without any setbacks, he'll be in line to rejoin Miami's backfield in Week 13 and work in tandem with Jeff Wilson, who logged 13 carries for 39 yards and a TD to go along with one catch for 13 yards in Miami's 30-15 win over Houston.
Nov 27, 2022
Won't play Sunday
Mostert (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, logged a limited session Friday, but he'll sit this one out and target a potential return to action in Week 13 versus the 49ers. In his absence versus Houston, the Dolphins are slated to turn to Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin to handle complementary work behind Jeff Wilson, who figures to be busy Sunday with the team minus Mostert, who logged eight carries for 65 yards and a touchdown to go along with four catches for 22 yards (while working alongside Wilson) in Miami's 39-17 victory over the Browns in Week 10.
Nov 25, 2022
Doubtful for Week 12
Mostert (knee) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Texans after returning to a limited practice Friday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert, who didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, is thus trending toward being ruled inactive ahead of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. If he is indeed out, then the Dolphins would turn to Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin to handle complementary work in the team's Week 12 backfield behind Jeff Wilson.
Nov 24, 2022
Misses another practice
Mostert (knee) didn't practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Back-to-back DNP's cloud Mostert's status for Sunday's game against the Texans, but a return to practice Friday in any capacity would give the running back a chance to suit up this weekend. If Mostert is out or limited versus Houston, Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin would be candidates to see added backfield work in Week 12 behind Jeff Wilson.
Nov 23, 2022
Misses practice Wednesday
Mostert (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Coming off a bye week, it's notable that Mostert sat out Wednesday's session, though it's possible that his absence was more a case of maintenance, as opposed to a setback with the knee issue that he managed earlier this season. Thursday's practice report should add further context on that front and if Mostert is able to participate in any capacity, he'd be on track to suit up Sunday against the Texans and work in tandem with Jeff Wilson in Miami's Week 12 backfield.
Nov 13, 2022
Retains solid role in win
Mostert rushed eight times for 65 yards and a touchdown while bringing in all four targets for 22 yards in the Dolphins' 39-17 win over the Browns on Sunday. He also returned three kickoffs for 60 yards.
ANALYSIS
Although backfield mate Jeff Wilson stole the headlines with his 17-119-1 line on the ground, Mostert made plenty of noise himself and also doubled him up in receptions. The veteran back is likely to continue operating in a fairly clear-cut complementary role alongside Wilson, although there's always the chance head coach Mike McDaniel changes the workload up to a degree from week to week. For the moment, Mostert heads into the Week 11 bye having recorded a rushing touchdown in each of the first two games since Wilson's arrival.
Nov 6, 2022
Gets into end zone Sunday
Mostert rushed nine times for 26 yards and a touchdown, failed to bring in either of his two targets and returned one kickoff for 18 yards in the Dolphins' 35-32 win over the Bears on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mostert shared the backfield with former 49ers teammate Jeff Wilson for the first time as a Dolphin, and the end result was an exact 50/50 split in carries. Wilson was the more efficient of the two with 51 yards on his nine totes, but Mostert got into the end zone on a one-yard run midway through the first quarter to salvage his fantasy day. However, the fact Wilson was immediately involved on a level that actually exceeded Mostert's -- the recent trade acquisition also posted a 3-21-1 line through the air -- is certainly concerning for Dolphins' incumbent back moving forward.
Oct 30, 2022
Records 80 all-purpose yards in win
Mostert rushed 14 times for 64 yards, brought in his only target for three yards and returned one kickoff for 13 yards in the Dolphins' 31-27 win over the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mostert put together an efficient effort on the ground that saw him average 4.6 yards per tote, and the fact his long gain was just 13 yards underscores the fact he consistently churned out solid gains. However, the veteran back was less involved in the passing game than might have been expected following a season-high four-catch tally in Week 7, and his rushing opportunities may have been somewhat capped by the Dolphins falling into an early 14-0 hole they eventually crawled out of. Mostert does have at least 64 rush yards in four of the last five games, however, a favorable trend he'll hope to extend against the Bears' vulnerable run defense in a Week 9 road matchup.
Oct 28, 2022
No designation for Week 8
Mostert (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Lions, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though Mostert moved from full participation in practice Wednesday to limited activity Thursday and Friday, his lack of a designation heading into the weekend seemingly implies that his reps were capped mainly for maintenance purposes. Coming off a Week 7 outing against the Steelers in which he turned a season-high 21 touches into 109 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown, Mostert profiles as a strong fantasy option in his matchup with a Lions defense that has surrendered 412.2 yards and 32.3 points per game, the worst marks in the NFL by a fair margin.
Oct 27, 2022
Logs limited practice Thursday
Mostert (knee) was limited at practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert practiced fully Wednesday, so his addition to the Dolphins' Week 8 injury report is notable. That said, Mostert has been managing a knee issue the last couple of weeks, so his listed limitations Thursday may well be maintenance-related rather than indicative of a setback. Friday's final injury report should add some clarity with regard to the running back's status for Sunday's game against the Lions.
Oct 24, 2022
Produces 109 yards plus TD
Mostert rushed 16 times for 79 yards and caught four of five targets for 30 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 16-10 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was arguably Miami's best offensive player Sunday, going for over 100 combined yards while scoring the team's only touchdown. The veteran tailback has clearly pulled away from the struggling Chase Edmonds (seven carries for 17 yards) as the lead back, and he has now produced two games with at least 100 yards and a touchdown over the last three weeks. Mostert is looking like a must-start fantasy asset heading into a favorable matchup against Detroit next Sunday.
Oct 21, 2022
Ready for Week 7
Mostert (knee) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Mike Masala of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has a long history of knee injuries, including the past two weeks when his reps were capped at times. This week, he followed up Wednesday's limited practice with back-to-back full sessions, thereby clearing him for active status for a seventh consecutive contest to begin the campaign. While he had just six touches in the season opener, Mostert has since gotten the larger share of backfield work over teammate Chase Edmonds, averaging 14.6 touches for 68.2 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring one TD over the last five contests.
Oct 20, 2022
Full practice
Mostert (knee) practiced fully Thursday, South Florida Sun Sentinel writer David Furones reports.
ANALYSIS
With his return to full practice Mostert should be able to start and take on his usual workload against Pittsburgh on Sunday night.
Oct 19, 2022
Limited in practice
Mostert (knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert played through the knee injury in a 24-16 loss to Minnesota on Sunday, taking 15 touches for 48 yards while playing 62 percent of snaps on offense. He's played more than half the snaps in five straight games and more than 60 percent in three in a row, but his only big outing from a fantasy standpoint came in a blowout loss to the Jets a couple weeks ago. Assuming no problems with the knee, Mostert figures to again lead Miami's rushing attack, this time with Tua Tagovailoa back under center to direct the offense.
Oct 16, 2022
Modest production in loss
Mostert rushed 14 times for 49 yards and secured one of two targets for minus-1 yard in the Dolphins' 24-16 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran back shook off the knee issue he'd dealt with during the week as expected, but Mostert ultimately found the going against the Vikings run defense tough more often than not. Game script eventually turned against Mostert once the Dolphins fell behind 16-3 early in the fourth quarter. However, Mostert continued to function as the clear lead back for Miami, an encouraging trend that's expected to continue in a Week 7 home Sunday night matchup against the Steelers.
Oct 16, 2022
Suiting up Sunday
Mostert (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was tending to the knee injury in the aftermath of carrying 18 times for a season-high 113 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' Week 5 loss to the Jets, but his ability to practice on a limited basis Thursday and Friday looks like it was enough to convince Miami to keep him active for Week 6. At this point, Mostert appears to have asserted himself as the top option out of the Miami backfield, but he could struggle to replicate the 18 carries he saw a week ago if the underdog Dolphins find themselves trailing early against Minnesota. Third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson will be making his first career start Sunday, and his presence under center could make it difficult for the Dolphins to string together long drives.
Oct 14, 2022
Listed as questionable, expects to play
Mostert (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings after logging limited practices Thursday and Friday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald relays that the running back said he'd play this weekend, but Mostert's status will still be worth verifying ahead of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. As long as he's active, look for Mostert to continue to lead the Dolphins' rushing attack in Week 6, after carrying 18 times for 113 yards and a touchdown to go along with one catch for nine yards in Miami's Week 5 loss to the Jets.
Oct 13, 2022
Logs limited practice
Mostert (knee) returned to a limited practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert didn't practice Wednesday, but the running back's return to the field Thursday has him trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Vikings. Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Mostert indicated that his knee is fine and that he plans to play this weekend, a notion that could be solidified Friday if he heads into the weekend minus a Week 6 injury designation.
Oct 13, 2022
Back at practice
Mostert (knee) returned to practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert sat out Wednesday's session, but his return to practice a day later is a positive indicator regarding his availability for Sunday's game against the Vikings. Thursday's upcoming injury report will clarify the running back's official participation level.
Oct 12, 2022
Misses practice Wednesday
Mostert (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was on the field for 46 of a possible 67 snaps on offense in this past Sunday's 40-17 loss to the Jets en route to carrying 18 times for 113 yards and a TD and catching one of his three targets for nine yards. What the running back is able to do at Thursday's practice should add a degree of clarity with regard to his chances of playing this weekend against the Vikings, but if Mostert is limited at all or out, Myles Gaskin and Chase Edmonds would be in line for added Week 6 snaps/touches.
Oct 9, 2022
Tops 100 yards with a TD
Mostert rushed 18 times for 113 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 40-17 loss to the Jets. He also caught one of three targets for nine yards.
ANALYSIS
Miami went with a run-heavy approach after Teddy Bridgewater (head) got injured in the first quarter. Mostert was the beneficiary of that approach, notching his first 100-yard rushing performance in a Dolphins uniform, as well as his first touchdown since Week 12 of the 2020 campaign. With drops plaguing receiving back Chase Edmonds, Mostert has pulled away as the leading option in Miami's backfield and should remain busy in Week 6 against the Vikings regardless of who starts under center for the Dolphins.
Sep 30, 2022
Racks up 123 total yards in loss
Mostert rushed 15 times for 69 yards and secured two of three targets for 12 yards in the Dolphins' 27-15 loss to the Bengals on Thursday night. He also returned two kickoffs for 42 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mostert served as the clear lead back on the night, outpacing backfield mate Chase Edmonds by 10 carries while matching his two catches and three targets. The veteran's workload on the ground was a season high, which also led to a new 2022 high-water mark in rushing yardage. Mostert could have an elevated role once again in a Week 5 road showdown against the Jets a week from Sunday particularly if Teddy Bridgewater draws a start over Tua Tagovailoa (head/neck), considering head coach Mike McDaniel might run a bit more of a ground-based attack and Mostert could also play a key role as a safety-valve receiving option for the veteran backup.
Sep 25, 2022
Shut down on ground Sunday
Mostert rushed eight times for 11 yards and failed to bring in either of his two targets in the Dolphins' 21-19 win over the Bills on Sunday. He also returned three kickoffs for 54 yards.
ANALYSIS
The usually efficient running back was anything but, running into a brick wall of a Bills defense on all but one of his carries. Mostert's long run went for nine yards, meaning he netted all of two yards on his seven other rushes. Backfield mate Chase Edmonds was a tad better with 3.5 yards per carry and also scored two touchdowns, but the split between the two figures to remain fairly close again in Thursday night's Week 4 road matchup against the Bengals.
Sep 18, 2022
Impressive all-around effort Sunday
Mostert rushed 11 times for 51 yards and secured all three targets for 28 yards in the Dolphins' 42-38 win over the Ravens on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran running back's numbers will naturally be completely overshadowed by the otherworldly exploits of teammates Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but there's plenty of encouragement to take from Mostert's performance as well. To begin with, he saw a nice boost in touches after logging only six in the opener, and he also appeared to have some of his trademark explosiveness against a tough defense. Additionally, Mostert outpaced backfield mate Chase Edmonds by six rushes, and if he's blessed with more of a favorable game script in a Week 3 matchup against the Bills at home, he could see a bigger workload, albeit in an even tougher matchup on paper.
Sep 11, 2022
Six touches in Dolphins debut
Mostert rushed five times for 16 yards and caught his only target for another 16 yards in Sunday's 20-7 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Mostert got six touches to Chase Edmonds' 16, as Edmonds asserted himself as Miami's lead back. Miami's two touchdowns came on a defensive play and a long pass, so the Dolphins didn't show which running back would get the all-important carries by the goal line. Mostert should remain in a change-of-pace role behind Edmonds in Week 2 against the Ravens.
Aug 27, 2022
Two carries in preseason finale
Mostert carried the ball twice for 29 yards in Saturday's 48-10 preseason win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Mostert got the starting nod with Chase Edmonds resting, and he tallied a carry on each of Miami's first two possessions. Mostert ripped off a 26-yard gain to lead off the latter drive, accounting for nearly all of his production. Though the split in work between Edmonds and Mostert remains unclear to begin the regular season, the duo appear poised to lead the Miami backfield.
Aug 20, 2022
Not playing Saturday
Mostert isn't playing in Saturday's preseason game against Las Vegas, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Chase Edmonds got the start and played the first 10 snaps, with Sony Michel then following him into the game. This may just be a matter of caution after Mostert suffered a serious knee injury last year with the 49ers. Most reports suggest the Dolphins will open the season with a backfield committee, though it isn't clear to what extent Mostert specifically will be involved. Edmonds is the sure bet to have a significant role, with his workload likely including a lot of the pass snaps and thus RB targets.
Aug 13, 2022
Unlikely to suit up Saturday
Mostert isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason game at Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Mostert and Chase Edmonds will be joined on the sidelines by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. In place of Mostert and Edmonds, the Dolphins backfield will be occupied by Sony Michel, Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed, Gerrid Doaks and ZaQuandre White on Saturday.
Aug 8, 2022
Listed with starters on depth chart
Mostert and Chase Edmonds both are listed with the first-string offense on Miami's initial preseason depth chart, after coach Mike McDaniel said Sunday that "competition is fierce" among the team's running backs, Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Edmonds got the biggest contract of the trio, but it's no secret that fellow offseason acquisitions Mostert and Sony Michel also are in the mix for key roles. Edmonds is the best pass catcher of the bunch, while Mostert is by far the fastest and Michel perhaps most adept working between the tackles. There's even some chance of a contribution from Myles Gaskin, the team's lead back for much of 2020 and 2021 under a different coaching staff. Mostert should have an advantage when it comes to scheme familiarity and terminology, considering McDaniel was the 49ers' run game coordinator from 2017 to 2020 and their offensive coordinator in 2021. Mostert was in San Francisco from late 2016 through 2021, though he missed nearly as many games as he played, including all but the season opener last year. He was cleared for the start of training camp after a lengthy rehab from a knee injury, and he recently shed his no-contact jersey, per Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald.
Jul 25, 2022
Achieves medical clearance
Mostert (knee) announced via his personal Twitter account Monday that he has received medical clearance.
ANALYSIS
Mostert will take the field when Dolphins' veterans report for training camp Tuesday, which is a positive development as he works to return to 100 percent health by Week 1. The 30-year-old veteran stands to spend training camp competing with Sony Michel for work in what looks to be a developing backfield by committee, one which fellow newcomer Chase Edmonds is the presumed favorite to lead. Holdovers Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed look slated for depth roles, if they crack the final roster.
Jun 15, 2022
Close to full health
Mostert (knee) announced Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he's "close to 100 percent" healthy.
ANALYSIS
Mostert also said his "rehab is going great." While the veteran running back hasn't been a participant in spring activities, it does appear that he's nearing a return to on-field work. It would be encouraging if Mostert is available for the start of training camp late July, but an exact timetable for his full return hasn't been disclosed. In any case, once Mostert is fully recovered from the surgery he underwent to address chipped cartilage in his left knee, he stands to join Chase Edmonds and Sony Michel atop Miami's revamped running back depth chart.

Taking it slow
Coach Mike McDaniel expects Mostert (knee) to be ready for Week 1, though the Dolphins plan to be cautious with him this offseason, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In other words, Mostert won't participate in spring practices, which was probably to be expected. He played only nine games over the past two seasons, with the most recent issue being a knee injury that required October surgery to address chipped cartilage. The 30-year-old is part of a rebuilt, veteran backfield that also added Chase Edmonds and Sony Michel this offseason, while Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed are the returning players of note. Mostert should compete for carries on early downs once he's healthy.

Says rehab is going well
Mostert (knee) said Monday that he's "way ahead of schedule" in the rehab process after October surgery, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
The surgery addressed chipped cartilage in his left knee, and Mostert has now played only nine games over the past two seasons. The Dolphins do expect him to be healthy before Week 1, with Mostert joining the team on a one-year contract shortly after fellow running back Chase Edmonds got a two-year deal. Mostert has the benefit of familiarity with new Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, formerly the 49ers' offensive coordinator, but Edmonds is still the better bet to lead Miami's backfield in touches. The team also has 2021 holdovers Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed and Patrick Laird on the offseason roster.
Mar 16, 2022
Moving on to South Beach
The Dolphins and Mostert agreed to a contract Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Not only is he reuniting with new coach Mike McDaniel, Mostert will join a backfield led by newcomer Chase Edmonds and Myles Gaskin. First, though, Mostert will need to complete his recovery from October surgery to address chipped cartilage in his left knee. According to a recent report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, Mostert is expected to be healthy by Week 1 of next season, at which point he'll look to avoid the injury bug that limited him to nine appearances between the past two campaigns. When he's been able to suit up in his career, he's averaged 5.7 yards per carry and scored 14 TDs on 320 career touches.
Mar 11, 2022
Recovery going well
Mostert (knee) is on track to make a full recovery by the start of the 2022 season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's recovery process is exceeding expectations, per Schefter, though the details of his exact timetable remain undisclosed. The soon-to-be 30-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year, and given that injuries have limited Mostert to just nine appearances across the last two seasons, it remains to be seen whether teams will view him as a potential starting option on the open market. Mostert underwent surgery to address chipped cartilage in the meniscus of his left knee Oct. 12.
Jan 18, 2022
Comes off COVID-19 list
The 49ers shifted Mostert (knee) from the reserve/COVID-19 list to injured reserve Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Since getting hurt Week 1, Mostert underwent a procedure Oct. 12 to address chipped cartilage in his left knee, was cleared to walk without crutches Dec. 12 and spent Jan. 3-18 on the COVID-19 list. There's no potential for the seven-year pro to return from IR this season, but he appears as if he'll be healthy at some point between the end of the 49ers' season (whenever that may be) and the offseason program. In the meantime, rookie sixth-rounder Elijah Mitchell will continue to lead the backfield.
Jan 3, 2022
Placed on COVID list
Mostert (knee) has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was already on season-ending IR due to a knee injury and the running back is slated to revert back to IR once he clears the league's COVID protocols.
Dec 3, 2021
Ditches crutches
Mostert (knee) announced Friday that he's been cleared to walk without the aid of crutches, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
It's an early milestone in the recovery process for Mostert, who underwent Oct. 12 to address chipped cartilage in the meniscus of his left knee. Mostert is without a clear timeline to complete his rehab from the unique knee procedure, but he's already ruled himself out from playing again this season and is turning his focus to getting healthy for OTAs. Scheduled to become a free agent this spring, Mostert will likely need full medical clearance from doctors before any team offers him a contract.
Oct 12, 2021
Checks in for surgery
Mostert will undergo surgery Tuesday to address chipped cartilage in his left knee, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert announced Sept. 14 that he would require a season-ending knee procedure, but he had to wait around a month for doctors to find the correct donor components needed for the operation. Assuming the surgery goes as planned, Mostert is expected to be back to full health ahead of the 2022 season. The 29-year-old running back is set to become a free agent this spring.
Sep 14, 2021
Move to IR official
The 49ers placed Mostert (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
San Francisco officially removed Mostert from its 53-man roster a few hours after the running back announced he would undergo season-ending surgery to address the cartilage damage to his knee he sustained Sunday in the 49ers' season-opening win over the Lions. Mostert expects to be back to 100 percent health for the start of the 2022 campaign, but he could be suiting up for a different team, as he'll become a free agent during the upcoming spring. Meanwhile, the 49ers are expected to give Elijah Mitchell the first crack at the No. 1 role out of the backfield, with Trey Sermon and JaMycal Hasty on hand in complementary roles. Additionally, San Francisco signed veteran Kerryon Johnson to its practice squad Tuesday, and he could eventually factor into the backfield equation at some point.
Sep 14, 2021
Getting surgery, season over
Mostert announced Tuesday via his personal Twitter account that he will undergo season-ending knee surgery.
ANALYSIS
Though 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan estimated Monday that Mostert would miss about eight weeks after suffered chipped cartilage in his knee in the team's season-opening win over the Lions, the running back has apparently elected to undergo what's believed to be a full meniscus repair, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. While the surgery will necessitate a longer recovery timeline, Mostert should have a brighter long-term health outlook rather than if he had returned in the second half of the season and continued to play through the knee issue. Expect the 49ers to officially place Mostert on season-ending injured reserve later this week, paving the way for the Elijah Mitchell, JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon to lead the ground game moving forward.
Sep 13, 2021
Expected to miss eight weeks
Mostert (knee) is expected to miss about eight weeks and will go on IR, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert exited Sunday's win over the Lions with a knee injury, which turns out to be chipped cartilage. Rookie sixth-round pick Elijah Mitchell took over for Mostert against Detroit and rushed for over 100 yards, so he'll likely lead San Francisco's backfield in Mostert's absence. JaMycal Hasty and rookie third-round pick Trey Sermon should also see additional opportunities while Mostert recovers.
Sep 12, 2021
Will not return to Sunday's game
Mostert (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Lions, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The knee injury Mostert suffered in the first half of Sunday's game will prevent him from seeing any more action in Week 1, so Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty will split the carries for the remainder of the day. The extent of Mostert's injury is not yet known, but head coach Kyle Shanahan figures to provide some sort of update after the game concludes.
Sep 12, 2021
Questionable to return
Mostert (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Lions, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
This isn't a promising sign for the 49ers, as they're already quite thin in terms of depth at running back. Elijah Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty are expected to gain a bigger role if Mostert is unable to return to action in the contest, given that Trey Sermon is inactive Sunday.
Aug 29, 2021
Excels in start
Mostert rushed seven times for 53 yards in Sunday's 34-10 preseason win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Mostert garnered all of San Francisco's running-back touches on its first offensive drive and was highly efficient with his opportunities. He then saw rookie Trey Sermon incorporated on the second series, and fellow tailbacks JaMycal Hasty and Wayne Gallman shine afterward. Although Sermon should factor prominently in the 49ers' backfield rotation, Mostert seems the most likely candidate to start in Week 1 versus the Lions, which would give him good upside as the leader of an often-dominant running scheme.
Aug 22, 2021
Not suiting up Sunday
Mostert isn't slated to play in Sunday's preseason game at the Chargers, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite coach Kyle Shanahan's assertion that the starters would log at least a quarter of work in preseason Week 2, Mostert won't be available to the 49ers offense Sunday. Mostert will be joined by rookie running backs Trey Sermon and Elijah Mitchell (hip) on the sideline, leaving the backfield to Wayne Gallman, JaMycal Hasty, Kyle Juszczyk and Josh Hokit.
Aug 20, 2021
Likely to suit up Sunday
Mostert is in line to play in Sunday's preseason contest at the Chargers, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Kyle Shanahan said after Friday's joint practice with the Chargers that 49ers starters will log "a quarter, a quarter and a half" in their second exhibition. As a result, it appears San Fran is set to have its dress rehearsal for the regular season Sunday. Mostert should get a lot of the backfield reps while the starters are on the field, yielding the occasional touch to Trey Sermon and perhaps even Wayne Gallman.
Aug 14, 2021
Not expected to play in opener
Mostert is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Chiefs, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's absence does not appear to be injury-related, as he has taken part in practice since training camp began. Injuries limited Mostert to just eight games in 2020, so expect the 49ers to take it easy with him during the preseason so he is good to go for Week 1.
Jul 29, 2021
Returns for start of camp
Mostert (knee) fielded some punts at Wednesday's practice, Keiana Martin of 49ers.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The main takeaway is that Mostert returned healthy for the start of training camp after dealing with a minor knee injury during OTAs. He's never returned a punt in a regular-season game and isn't likely to start at this point in his career, though he was largely valued for his work on special teams prior to a late-2019 breakout. Mostert then made eight starts for the Niners in 2020, but he left two of those games early and missed eight others, held back by knee and ankle sprains. He did put up 65.1 rushing yards per game and 5.0 YPC, and he displayed his trademark speed on an 80-yard TD run and a 76-yard receiving score in September. While the explosiveness may keep Mostert atop San Francisco's depth chart, Tim Kawakami of The Athletic suggests rookie third-round pick Trey Sermon "already seems to be pretty much 1B to [Mostert]'s 1A at the tailback spot."
Jun 2, 2021
Tending to minor knee injury
Mostert didn't participate in Wednesday's OTA due to a knee issue but is expected to be fine for training camp, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert pieced together a strong showing in his eight games for the 49ers last season but had trouble staying on the field and finished the campaign on IR due to an ankle injury. Unfortunately, his offseason appears to be starting with an injury as well, though this one isn't expected to cost him many meaningful reps.
Dec 22, 2020
Lands on IR
Mostert (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, ending his 2020 season, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's season was plagued by injuries, as ankle and knee injuries will end up costing him eight games this year. The 28-year-old running back rushed 104 times for 521 yards and two touchdowns this season, and he caught 16 of 19 targets for 156 yards and a score. The 49ers will close out the 2020 campaign with a committee of Jeff Wilson (ankle), Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon. Mostert is under contract for the 2021 season at a $3.3 million cap hit.
Dec 22, 2020
Season likely over
Mostert (ankle) isn't expected to return in the 2020 season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert missed four games earlier this season with a left ankle injury, and he never fully recovered from the injury. The 28-year-old tailback suffered a high-ankle sprain to the same ankle in this past Sunday's loss to the Cowboys. With the 49ers eliminated from playoff contention, they're expected to shut Mostert down for the rest of the season. If that's the case, a committee of Jeff Wilson (ankle), Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon will handle the backfield reps for the final two games.
Dec 20, 2020
Sustains ankle injury
Mostert left Sunday's game at Dallas due to an ankle injury, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert logged a one-yard carry on the 49ers' first offensive play of the second half, but shortly thereafter he was seen grabbing at his left ankle on the bench, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. Deemed questionable to return, Mostert will finish Week 15 with 14 carries for 68 yards if he's unable to do so. In the meantime, Jeff Wilson will carry the load out of San Fran's backfield.
Dec 18, 2020
Expected to start
Mostert (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game in Dallas, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert had an MRI at the beginning of the week and was held out of practice Wednesday. He apparently made good progress, so he's expected to get the Week 15 start, presumably continuing to split backfield work with Jeff Wilson. It's an excellent matchup, as the Cowboys have surrendered a league-worst 5.1 yards per carry.
Dec 17, 2020
Bumps up to limited
Mostert (ankle) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert emerged from the 49ers' Week 14 loss to Washington with an ankle issue, marking his second such injury of the campaign. Clearly, the current one is far less severe, as he followed up Wednesday's absence with some activity one day later. He has one more opportunity to bump up to full Friday, but even if he doesn't he seems poised to be no less than 'questionable' for Sunday's game in Dallas. Behind Mostert, Jeff Wilson is next in the pecking order at running back, with Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon also on hand.
Dec 16, 2020
Not practicing Wednesday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Mostert (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has missed four games this season due to a high-ankle sprain, but he's also served in a timeshare at running back for each of the past three contests, racking up 156 yards from scrimmage and one TD on 44 touches during that span. Shanahan told Wagoner on Monday that Mostert emerged from this past Sunday's loss to Washington with an ankle issue that required "further imaging." The results of those tests haven't been revealed, but Mostert isn't exactly kicking off Week 15 prep in great shape. Jeff Wilson, Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon are the next running backs up for the 49ers.
Dec 14, 2020
Getting ankle checked out
Mostert is slated to have further imaging done on his ankle, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With that in mind, coach Kyle Shanahan said the 49ers will know more about the running back's status Wednesday. If Mostert is out or limited Sunday against the Cowboys, Jeff Wilson, as well as Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon would be in line for added backfield snaps in Week 15.
Dec 13, 2020
Totals 70 scrimmage yards
Mostert carried 14 times for 65 yards and caught two of four targets for five yards during Sunday's 23-15 loss to Washington.
ANALYSIS
Mostert averaged a respectable 4.6 yards per carry against a stingy Washington front but finished shy of 15 carries for the second straight week. He finished fourth on the team in targets and made a pair of receptions, though he failed to break either for a notable gain and finished averaging a mere 2.5 yards per catch. Mostert has totaled just 156 scrimmage yards on 44 touches over the last three games and will look to break out of his slump next Sunday against a Cowboys defense that has been gashed on the ground by many opponents this season.
Dec 8, 2020
Splits work with Wilson
Mostert rushed nine times for 42 yards and secured two of five targets for 12 yards in the 49ers' 34-24 loss to the Bills on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Playing his second game since returning from injured reserve due to an ankle sprain, Mostert got off to a good start early but ended up splitting carries with Jeff Wilson (seven rush attempts) almost evenly while also becoming a victim of game script. The 49ers were forced to increasingly turn to the pass in the second half due to a multi-possession deficit, helping lead to Mostert's second lowest rushing workload of the campaign. Mostert was still relatively efficient on a per-touch basis and will look to up his overall production in a tough Week 14 matchup against Washington.
Nov 29, 2020
Scores rushing TD in return
Mostert carried 16 times for 43 yards and a touchdown while catching both his targets for one additional yard during Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Rams. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Making his first appearance since mid-October, Mostert got his team on the board with an eight-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. He averaged just 2.7 yards per carry and hardly made an impact as a receiver, but it was still a respectable performance all things considered. Meanwhile, Jeff Wilson Jr. and Jerick McKinnon combined for 75 yards on 17 touches, though neither player was particularly effective. Assuming he didn't suffer any nagging effects of his ankle injury, Mostert could be in line to make a bigger impact next Monday night against the Bills.
Nov 29, 2020
Back in action Week 12
Mostert (ankle) is listed as active Sunday against the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been sidelined since Oct. 18, when he sustained a high-ankle sprain that forced a stint on IR. With a week of practice under his belt, he's back in the lineup, but it remains to be seen if he'll be the primary ballcarrier right off the bat. Despite playing in just four games this season, he leads the 49ers in rushing with 303 yards and has 150 yards through the air, making him a good candidate to resume his previous role with Tevin Coleman (knee) out. Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson (ankle) also are on hand for touches out of San Francisco's backfield.
Nov 28, 2020
Activated from IR
Mostert (ankle) was activated from injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Coach Kyle Shanahan stated Friday that this transaction would happen, adding that Mostert is still considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams. Jeff Wilson (ankle) is in the same boat, while Tevin Coleman (knee) has been ruled out. Mostert figures to capture a bulk of the backfield work if he plays Sunday in a tough road matchup against the Rams.
Nov 27, 2020
Could play Sunday
Mostert (ankle) will be activated from injured reserve before Sunday's game against the Rams, with coach Kyle Shanahan considering the running back questionable to play, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jeff Wilson (IR - ankle) will get the same treatment, while Tevin Coleman (knee) has been ruled out. Mostert should be the lead back if he ends up playing, but the 49ers also have Jerick McKinnon on hand, and it sounds like Wilson has a shot as well. It could come down to a game-time decision for Mostert and/or Wilson.
Nov 25, 2020
Dubbed day-to-day
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday that Mostert (ankle) is "day-to-day," Chris Biderman of The Sacramento Bee reports.
ANALYSIS
The 49ers designated Mostert for a return to practice Tuesday, and Shanahan's current comments would seem to hint that he has a shot at returning to the lineup as early as Sunday's game against the Rams. Tevin Coleman (knee) also resumed practicing in a limited fashion Wednesday, so San Francisco's backfield appears set to receive high-end reinforcements in the near future.
Nov 24, 2020
Cleared to practice again
The 49ers designated Mostert (ankle) to return from injured reserve Tuesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert missed the 49ers' final four games before the team's Week 11 bye with the sprained left ankle, but his return to practice Tuesday could set in motion a return to the lineup Sunday in Los Angeles against the Rams. Before deciding on Mostert's status for Week 12, the 49ers will presumably wait and see how his ankle responds to practice work over the next few days. The 49ers will have 21 days to evaluate Mostert for a return to the active roster, so if the team decides to err on the side of caution and give him another game off, coach Kyle Shanahan would likely rely on the tandem of Jerick McKinnon (neck) and Tevin Coleman (knee) to handle most of the backfield work.
Nov 17, 2020
May be back Week 12
Coach Kyle Shanahan hopes Mostert (ankle) will be available for the 49ers' next game Sunday, Nov. 29 versus the Rams, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shanahan echoed the same thoughts about Tevin Coleman (knee), which would give San Francisco its top two running backs following its Week 11 bye. If the preceding happens, the backfield could be composed of Mostert, Coleman, Jerick McKinnon (neck) and Austin Walter with Jeff Wilson (ankle) and JaMycal Hasty (collarbone) still on IR.
Nov 11, 2020
Not set to return from IR
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Mostert (ankle) is unlikely to return Sunday at New Orleans, but the 49ers hope the running back is able to suit up Sunday, Nov. 29 versus the Rams after their Week 11 bye, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Shanahan said the same of fellow RB Tevin Coleman (knee), which would leave the backfield in the hands of Jerick McKinnon, JaMycal Hasty and Austin Walter this weekend.
Oct 24, 2020
Placed on IR
Mostert (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
This was always going to be the likely designation for the speedy running back as reports earlier in the week insinuated an IR stint was on the horizon. Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty were a factor following Mostert's injury in Week 6, but it remains to be seen if a backfield-by-committee will be in order Sunday, or if McKinnon will take over as the lead back similar to what we saw earlier this season. Perhaps complicating matters further is the status of Jeff Wilson (calf) who remains questionable for the matchup against the Patriots, although no practice-squad RB callup certainly seems to be a positive step in regards to Wilson's status. In any case, Mostert will be eligible to return off injured reserve in Week 10 against the Saints, although it's entirely possible given Mostert's injury history this year the 49ers could simply choose to activate its star running back after the Week 11 bye.
Oct 22, 2020
Spectator for practice
Mostert (ankle) isn't participating in Thursday's practice, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's absence from practice for the second day in a row comes as little surprise after coach Kyle Shanahan admitted earlier this week that Mostert will likely be forced to injured reserve due to the left high-ankle sprain he sustained in the 49ers' Week 6 win over the Rams. Jerick McKinnon (32 percent snap share) and JaMycal Hasty (21 percent) saw the majority of the backfield reps after Mostert went down with the injury, suggesting Shanahan could be leaning toward a committee approach at the position while the top option is sidelined. McKinnon had previously taken on a three-down role when Mostert was sidelined for a pair of games earlier in the season.
Oct 21, 2020
No practice Wednesday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Mostert (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been bit with the injury bug for a second time this season, suffering a high left ankle sprain Sunday against the Rams. Shanahan told Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com on Monday that Mostert will "most likely" be placed on IR, which the 49ers have yet to make official. With at least a three-game absence in the cards for Mostert and Tevin Coleman (knee) unlikely to be activated from IR this week, San Francisco's backfield currently is occupied by Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson (calf) and JaMycal Hasty.
Oct 19, 2020
Has high-ankle sprain, likely IR-bound
Coach Kyle Shanahan told Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com that Mostert has been diagnosed with a high left ankle sprain and "most likely" will be placed on injured reserve.
ANALYSIS
Mostert sat out Weeks 3 and 4 with a sprained MCL and now is poised to miss at least three more games due to the ankle issue that forced him out of Sunday's win against the Rams. Shanahan also mentioned Tevin Coleman (knee) is a "long shot" to be activated from IR this week, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic, leaving Jerick McKinnon, JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson (calf) as the likely running backs available to the 49ers offense this coming Sunday at New England.
Oct 18, 2020
Exits with ankle injury
Mostert (ankle) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Mostert appeared to tweak his ankle on a catch late in the first half, and he was ruled out in the third quarter, leaving Jerick McKinnon to operate as San Francisco's lead back for the rest of the contest. This is the latest injury setback for Mostert, who returned from a knee injury last week. Mostert was busy prior to exiting, with 17 carries for 65 yards and two catches for 11 yards.
Oct 11, 2020
Totals 119 scrimmage yards
Mostert carried 11 times for 90 yards and added 29 yards on three receptions (three targets) during Sunday's 43-17 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Mostert gashed the Dolphins defense for 8.2 yards per carry but saw his work on the ground limited by a surprisingly lopsided scoreline. He produced effectively with the targets he received but didn't have many red zone opportunities as C.J. Beathard replaced Jimmy Garoppolo in the second half. Most importantly, Mostert looked strong after recovering from a recent knee injury and will hope for a more favorable game script in next Sunday's matchup with the Rams.
Oct 11, 2020
Back in action Sunday
Mostert (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Mostert is making his first appearance since Week 2 after being limited in practice Wednesday through Friday. Per Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area, Mostert was wearing a compression tight on his right leg during a pregame warmup, which seemingly will be supporting the knee that endeared a sprain three games ago. Mostert's workload may be limited as a result as he'll have to contend with Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson and perhaps JaMycal Hasty for reps out of the 49ers backfield.
Oct 11, 2020
Trending toward playing Sunday
Mostert (knee), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, "should be good [to play]," a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Mostert missed the 49ers' previous two games with a sprained MCL in his knee, but he took a step forward this week by practicing in a limited basis Wednesday through Friday. Though his status may not be firmly decided until the 49ers have a chance to evaluate him in a pregame workout, Mostert looks like he'll be ready to suit up Week 5. However, given the time he's missed of late along with the fact that he didn't return to full speed for practice, Mostert could handle a more limited role than usual if he avoids the inactive list, which the 49ers will release approximately 90 minutes prior to the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff. If Mostert's role is restricted in any way, Jerick McKinnon could remain a prominent part of the 49ers' backfield rotation.
Oct 8, 2020
Gets in another limited practice
Mostert (knee) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert appears to be testing out his sprained MCL this week, having his practice reps capped in the process. Friday's injury report will be telling for his ability to return Week 5. If Mostert is unable to suit up and misses a third straight game, Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty will be the running backs available to the 49ers offense.
Oct 7, 2020
Makes limited return to practice
Mostert (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert got back on the field for the first time since spraining his MCL in Week 2, but he may have to bump up to full participation by week's end to gain clearance from the 49ers' medical staff. If he misses a third consecutive contest Sunday against the Dolphins, the 49ers backfield will be manned by Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty.
Oct 7, 2020
Set to practice Wednesday
Mostert (knee) is slated to practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Getting back on the practice field will be a positive step in Mostert's recovery from a sprained MCL suffered Week 2, and he'll a few more chances this week to elevate to full participation. With Tevin Coleman (knee) still on IR for a few more weeks, Mostert would have less competition for RB reps if he can gain clearance from San Francisco's medical staff to play Sunday versus the Dolphins. Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty are the current healthy options available to the the 49ers backfield.
Oct 5, 2020
May practice Wednesday
Coach Kyle Shanahan hopes to get Mostert (knee) back at practice Wednesday, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert hasn't practiced since spraining his MCL in Week 2, missing two games in the process. Meanwhile, Tevin Coleman (knee) has been on injured reserve during that same stretch. In their place, Jerick McKinnon has totaled 38 touches for 174 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns, Jeff Wilson has put up a 19-88-2 line (respectively), and JaMycal Hasty has managed 3-18-0. It's unclear what kind of workload Mostert can expect when he eventually returns, but a timeshare with McKinnon and Wilson seems likely.

Officially ruled out again
Mostert (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
With Mostert out another week and Tevin Coleman (knee) on injured reserve, Jerick McKinnon is set to lead the San Francisco backfield again. Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty will provide depth, while Mostert will hope to make it back for Week 5 against the Dolphins.
Oct 1, 2020
Absent from practice
Mostert (knee) isn't taking part in Thursday's practice, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert hasn't seen any on-field action since suffering an MCL sprain in the 49ers' Week 2 win over the Jets. Since the 49ers' practice Friday will be a walk-through session, Mostert looks set to close out the week without taking any meaningful reps. The 49ers will likely wait until Friday to clarify his status for Sunday's game against the Eagles, but Mostert appears poised to miss a second straight contest. Another absence from Mostert would leave Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson in line to share reps out of the backfield.
Sep 30, 2020
Not ready to practice yet
Mostert (knee) will not participate in Wednesday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Kyle Shanahan said earlier this week that Mostert would be under evaluation Wednesday, but the starting running back's MCL sprain is still bothering him enough to prevent participation in practice. If Mostert isn't able to retake the field against the Eagles on Sunday night, the 49ers will once again have to deploy a backfield committee consisting of Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty.
Sep 28, 2020
Will be under evaluation Wednesday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Mostert (knee) will be looked at Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
The 49ers formally begin Week 4 prep with practice Wednesday, at which point the team is aiming to evaluate Mostert, among many of his injured teammates. The backfield is minus both Mostert and Tevin Coleman (knee, IR) at the moment, which left Jerick McKinnon (17 touches, 77 yards from scrimmage, one TD), Jeff Wilson (15, 69, two) and even JaMycal Hasty (three, 18, zero) to cover for their absences this past Sunday against the Giants. McKinnon himself injured his ribs in the contest, so Wilson and Hasty are the healthiest RB options for San Francisco.
Sep 25, 2020
Officially out Week 3
Mostert (knee) was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert missed the first two days of practice this week after suffering an MCL sprain during last Sunday's win over the Jets, so it was only a matter of time before he was ruled out by the team. Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson are poised to lead the 49ers' backfield for the near future, as Tevin Coleman (knee) is also sidelined.
Sep 24, 2020
Absent from practice
Mostert (knee) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert wasn't in attendance for the 49ers' second practice in a row, with Matt Barrows of The Athletic relaying that the running back left the team and headed to Cleveland to witness the birth of his second child. The 49ers may not even ask Mostert to return to the East Coast before Sunday's game against the Giants, as the running back wasn't expected to be available for the contest anyway after suffering a sprained MCL during the Week 2 win over the Jets. The injury isn't believed to be a major concern, as Mostert could be a candidate to play Week 4 against Philadelphia if he's able to get back on the practice field in some capacity. At least for the Week 3 matchup, however, the 49ers will likely lean on Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson to handle most of the reps out of the backfield.
Sep 23, 2020
Not practicing Wednesday
Mostert (knee) won't practice Wednesday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, fellow running back Tevin Coleman is a candidate for injured reserve with a potential prognosis of about four weeks on the sideline, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. Coach Kyle Shanahan considers Coleman's knee sprain to be "worse" than Mostert's, which backs up the 49ers' assessment that the latter will avoid an extended absence. Assuming both Mostert and Coleman are out Sunday versus the Giants, the team's backfield options may be just Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson this weekend.
Sep 22, 2020
Expected to avoid lengthy absence
Mostert (knee) isn't expected to play Sunday against the Giants, but the 49ers are optimistic he'll avoid an extended absence after an MRI confirmed he sustained an MCL sprain in the team's Week 2 win over the Jets, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
One of several San Francisco players who exited early due to injury in the team's 31-13 win at MetLife Stadium, Mostert at least appears fortunate to have avoided a setback with his knee that will cost him extended time. That said, Mostert will likely need at least a week to heal up from his sprained knee, and the 49ers aren't expected to have backup Tevin Coleman (knee) available versus the Giants either. As the only healthy backs left standing, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson are poised to handle most of the reps and touches at the position Week 3, with McKinnon's prowess as a pass catcher probably making him the more appealing fantasy option of the two in the likely event Mostert is sidelined.
Sep 21, 2020
Unlikely for Week 3
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Mostert (knee) is unlikely to suit up against the Giants on Sunday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert suffered an MCL sprain Week 2 against the Jets in the second quarter, after already having accumulated more than 100 scrimmage yards and a score. Tevin Coleman (knee) also suffered a knee injury Week 2, leaving Jerick McKinnon in position to tentatively handle the bulk of San Francisco's backfield reps against the Giants. Jeff Wilson will likely spell McKinnon in the event that both Mostert and Coleman are forced to miss time.
Sep 20, 2020
Diagnosed with sprained MCL
Mostert sustained a mild MCL sprain during Sunday's 31-13 road victory against the Jets, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert departed the game in the second quarter, but not before accumulating 107 yards from scrimmage on 10 touches, the longest one an 80-yard TD run to kick off the scoring. Backfield mate Tevin Coleman, who also hurt his knee Sunday, eked out 12 yards on 14 carries, which he supplemented with two receptions (on two targets) for 28 yards. Because of those injuries, Jerick McKinnon (three rushes for 77 yards and a score) and Jeff Wilson (two runs for three yards) round out the 49ers' stable of running backs.
Sep 20, 2020
Out for rest of Sunday's game
Mostert won't return to Sunday's game versus the Jets due to a knee injury, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert went to the locker room early in the first half and didn't return after the break. He was excellent before his departure, totaling 107 yards and a touchdown on 10 touches. For the time being, Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon will handle a bulk of the backfield reps while Jeff Wilson also rotates in.
Sep 13, 2020
Posts 151 yards, TD vs. Cardinals
Mostert carried 15 times for 56 yards while catching four of five targets for 95 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Mostert struggled to break off many big gains as he finished averaging just 3.7 yards per carry against a respectable Cardinals front. He made a huge impact as a pass catcher, however, as he took a wheel route 76 yards to the end zone to put his team up 10 in the second quarter. Mostert notably out-touched Jerick McKinnon and Tevin Coleman by eight, indicating he should be in for a larger share of the touches this season. He will look to build on an excellent start next Sunday against the Cardinals.
Aug 25, 2020
Gets day off Tuesday
Mostert received a vet day off Tuesday, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
At the start of Tuesday's practice, Mostert wasn't in uniform, with his only subsequent activity a brief stretching session with a 49ers trainer. With no injury to blame, he should be back on the field in the near future and retake the reins of what may be a three-headed backfield with Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon in 2020.
Aug 25, 2020
Not practicing Tuesday
Mostert didn't participate in the early part of Tuesday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Instead, Mostert wasn't in uniform and eventually stretched with a member of the 49ers' training staff, according to Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News. There's been no indication of an injury, but Kyle Shanahan or another member of the coaching staff may clarify Mostert's status in due time.
Jul 20, 2020
Hoping to mend fences
Mostert recently spoke to a high-ranking member of the 49ers organization, hoping to work out his contract situation, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Entering the second season of a three-year, $8.65 million contract, Mostert approached the 49ers earlier this offseason in search of a pay raise or extension. Unhappy with the course of negotiations, the 28-year-old running back requested a trade a couple weeks ago. It appears he's still open to staying in San Francisco, but it isn't clear if Mostert will report for the start of training camp without a new contract in hand. A trade or holdout might benefit Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson, or possibly even undrafted rookies JaMycal Hasty and Salvon Ahmed. Niners coach Kyle Shanahan has an impressive track record assembling productive rushing attacks without the benefit of a star running back.
Jul 9, 2020
Wants to match Coleman's salary
Mostert requested a trade after the 49ers denied a request to bring his salary in line with teammate Tevin Coleman's, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Coleman has a $4.55 million base salary for the second and final season of his contract, while Mostert is scheduled to make $2.58 million in the second year of a three-year deal. The request for a modest raise seems reasonable, but agent Brett Tessler says discussions with the team have been unproductive. The 49ers already traded Matt Breida earlier this offseason, leaving them with Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson behind presumed starter Mostert. It isn't an impressive group, but coach Kyle Shanahan has a strong track record of coaxing production from less-than-elite running backs.
Jul 8, 2020
Asks for trade
Mostert has requested a trade from the 49ers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's request comes via his agent, Brett Tessler, following what Tessler describes as "months of unproductive talks with the 49ers about fairly adjusting" the running back's contract. Following the team's trade of Matt Breida to Miami, San Francisco's other backfield options currently include Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson.
May 20, 2020
Adds muscle to frame, aiming for 200 carries
Mostert indicated Wednesday that he's added muscle to his frame in preparation for a 200-carry workload in 2020, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert held up well to the 137 carries he handled last season, racking up eight touchdowns and 772 yards on 137 totes (5.6 YPC). While he still has Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson to contend with, the sixth-year back appears to be preparing for a larger volume of work than he saw last season. That seems like an attainable goal after he compiled 117 rush attempts in the eight contests from Week 13 through the postseason.
Apr 27, 2020
Starting role strengthened
Mostert's projected starting role strengthened after Matt Breida was traded to the Dolphins in a draft-day deal, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was already expected to be the lead dog in a starting tandem with Tevin Coleman following his record-setting postseason run in 2019, but the departure of Breida clears up the backfield picture even more. Jerick McKinnon (knee) is still in the picture after restructuring his contract to stay in San Francisco, but the serious nature of his injury and utter lack of playing time since joining the team will likely land him in a backup role. Mostert will have the most upside in the 49ers' backfield due to his breakaway speed, while Coleman is likely to provide a decent floor if he continues to get double-digit touches in a shared workload.
Feb 2, 2020
Scores in Super Bowl loss
Mostert carried the ball 12 times for 58 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 31-20 Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs. He also hauled in his only target for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Though Mostert didn't come close to replicating his 220-yard, four-TD NFC Championship Game performance, he once again operated as the 49ers' top running back end and led the team's backfield while averaging a respectable 4.8 YPC. Given his efficiency, and the fact that San Francisco possessed a 10-point lead with the ball during the fourth quarter, it's fairly surprising that Mostert wasn't leaned on more heavily. The 27-year-old has two more years remaining on his contract with the 49ers, and he figures to factor in as at least a key contributor in the team's backfield for the 2020 season, with realistic upside of serving as the 49ers' No. 1 option. Of course, coach Kyle Shanahan's notoriously unpredictable tendency to rely on different lead backs on a game-to-game basis could put a damper on Mostert's fantasy value in 2020.
Jan 19, 2020
Goes off for four scores
Mostert rushed 29 times for 220 yards and four touchdowns while also catching two passes for six yards in Sunday's 37-20 win over Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
The 49ers' offensive line opened up gaping holes in the Packers' defensive front, and Mostert hit nearly every one of them for big chunks of yardage en route to a historic stat line. The 27-year-old's 220 rushing yards set a new playoff record for San Francisco and ranks second amongst all playoff rushers in the Super-Bowl era. Tevin Coleman took the reigns as the "hot back" against the Vikings last weekend, but he went down to injury in the second quarter and gave Mostert an even larger share of touches in the second half. San Francisco has two weeks to heal up before taking on the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, but the latter feels like a lock to at least begin the contest as the team's primary back even if Coleman is ready to suit up.
Jan 15, 2020
Puts in full practice Wednesday
Mostert (calf) practiced in full Wednesday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert tended to a calf cramp near the end of the 49ers' divisional-round victory against the Vikings, requiring an IV in the aftermath. He claimed no concerns about the issue at the time, and his listing on Wednesday's injury report confirms as much. While he may work behind Tevin Coleman (elbow) yet again Sunday versus the Packers, Mostert shouldn't be lacking for touches, as he's averaged 13.7 for 84.3 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring seven TDs over the last six contests.
Jan 15, 2020
All activity expected Wednesday
Mostert (calf) is in line to practice fully Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was knocked out late during this past Saturday's divisional-round win against the Vikings. Afterward, he called the injury a cramp in his calf, which required an IV as a course of treatment. Assuming Mostert gets through this week unscathed, he seems poised to serve as the change-of-pace option to Tevin Coleman on Sunday against the Packers. Behind Coleman's 22 rushes for 105 yards, Mostert managed 12 carries for 58 yards in the 49ers' playoff opener.
Jan 11, 2020
Dealing with calf cramp
Mostert told Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com after Saturday's win against the Vikings that he exited in the fourth quarter due to a cramp in his calf.
ANALYSIS
According to Mostert, he was treated with an IV and added that he dealt with "some sickness" during the week. 49ers injury reports prior to the game didn't mention his name at all, but in any case he expects to be fine moving forward. On Saturday, Mostert took a back seat to Tevin Coleman (22 carries for 105 yards) out of the backfield but still contributed 58 yards on 12 rushes and recovered a muffed punt.
Jan 11, 2020
Injures calf Saturday
Mostert suffered a calf injury during Saturday's divisional-round game against the Vikings, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Considering he picked up the issue in the fourth quarter, Mostert is unlikely to make his presence felt again Saturday. Prior to his departure, he had 12 carries for 58 yards and recovered a muffed punt. Meanwhile, Tevin Coleman returned to a lead-back role, with more than 100 yards on the ground.
Dec 6, 2019
Playing time to be determined
Moster will have to contend with Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida (ankle) on Sunday at New Orleans, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert is on the heels of putting up a season-high 21 touches for 154 yards from scrimmage and one TD against a staunch Ravens defense Week 13. In that same contest, Coleman was contained to just six touches and 10 snaps on offense. With Breida back in action for the first time since Week 10, it'll be interesting to see if Mostert can approach such a workload. In the end, though, it's difficult to trust any of the trio versus the Saints' third-ranked run defense (88.6 yards per game).
Nov 24, 2019
Serving as the No. 2 again
Mostert will serve as the 49ers' No. 2 running back Sunday against the Packers with Matt Breida (ankle) sidelined.
ANALYSIS
In the five games in which Mostert has received at least 29 percent of the offensive snaps this season, he's racked up 47 carries for 249 yards (5.3 YPC), six catches for 82 yards and one receiving TD. He'll be working behind Tevin Coleman in this contest, but Mostert has proved he doesn't need many touches to do damage on both the ground and through the air. Meanwhile, Jeff Wilson will round out the running backs on the 49ers' game-day roster.
Nov 21, 2019
Upgrades to full participation
Mostert (knee) practiced fully Thursday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The 49ers capped Mostert's reps in every practice last week, so his elevation from LP on Wednesday to full participant Thursday signals the improved health of his knee. He appears poised to retain the No. 2 running back role behind Tevin Coleman on Sunday against the Packers due to the continued absence of Matt Breida (ankle) from practice.
Nov 20, 2019
Limited to start week
Mostert (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert logged a trio of limited practice last week due to his lingering knee issue, and he nonetheless managed to play through the injury during Week 11's win over the Cardinals. Even if Mostert follows a similar pattern in practice this week, there's not yet any reason to believe that he'd be in danger of missing time. With Matt Breida (ankle) still not practicing Wednesday, Mostert could once again be in line to play a change-of-pace role behind Tevin Coleman during Sunday's tilt against the Packers.
Nov 17, 2019
Set for bigger role Week 11
Mostert (knee) is active for Sunday's contest against the Cardinals, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert is bumping up the depth chart temporarily with Matt Breida sidelined at least one game due to a low-ankle sprain. Working behind Tevin Coleman, Mostert will look to produce as he has previously this season, with his 5.5 yards-per-carry average translating well if he gets a healthy dose of runs. Meanwhile, Jeff Wilson also may get in the mix out of the 49ers' backfield.
Nov 15, 2019
Officially deemed questionable
Mostert (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert followed the same routine last week, logging limited practice participation before the 49ers listed him as questionable on their final injury report. He ended up playing in a 27-24 loss to Seattle, taking six carries for 28 yards and one reception for seven yards, including some extra work late in the game after Matt Breida suffered an ankle injury. With Breida now listed as doubtful for Week 11, it appears Mostert will handle the No. 2 backfield role behind Tevin Coleman. All eyes will be on the 49ers' inactive list approximately 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff, with George Kittle (knee/ankle) also listed as doubtful and both Emmanuel Sanders (ribs) and Dante Pettis (groin) considered questionable. Any skill-position players that end up playing could see extra carries and/or targets, Mostert included.
Nov 14, 2019
Another limited showing Thursday
Mostert (knee) was listed as a limited practice participant Thursday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert is nearly one month removed from injuring his knee, and while the issue has impacted his practice reps at times, he's suited up in each of the 49er's past four games. During that span, he's racked up 17 touches for 93 yards from scrimmage and one rushing TD. With Matt Breida expected to miss the next 1-to-2 games due to a low-ankle sprain, a more consistent role may be on tap for Mostert in the short term.
Nov 13, 2019
Still nursing knee injury
Mostert (knee) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been playing through the knee injury for about a month, so it's no real surprise to see him on the injury report again this week. The 27-year-old's ability to practice to start the week puts him on track to once again play through the injury in Week 11.
Nov 11, 2019
Suiting up Monday
Mostert (knee) is listed as active Monday versus the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been dealing with a knee injury for the better part of the last month but still played in each of the 49ers' last three games. His only noticeable impact during that stretch occurred on a 41-yard touchdown run Week 8 as he continues to play a bit role behind Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida. Expect Mostert to be mostly contained to special teams yet again Week 10.
Nov 9, 2019
Earns questionable tag
Mostert (knee) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Seahawks, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The reserve running back could have a chance to suit up against the Seahawks, although it's unlikely he'll have a dramatic impact with both Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida (ankle) healthy heading into the prime-time matchup.
Nov 8, 2019
Limited at practice again
Mostert (knee) remained limited Friday at practice, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert played through the same injury last week, getting just one carry in a 28-25 win over the Cardinals. His status won't have much impact on the 49ers' gameplan unless Matt Breida's ankle injury turns out to more serious than it currently appears to be.
Nov 7, 2019
Limited by knee injury
Mostert (knee) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has played through a knee injury the last three games, but aside from a 41-yard TD run Week 8, he's notched nine rushes for 17 yards (1.9 YPC) and no other scores. Working behind Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida (ankle) doesn't afford Mostert many touches on a weekly basis, especially with a tough Monday night matchup with the Seahawks on tap. First, though, Mostert will look to practice in full Friday and/or Saturday.
Nov 1, 2019
Suits up, receives just one carry
Mostert (knee) took his lone carry for a loss of two yards in Thursday's 28-25 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Mostert carried a questionable tag due to a knee injury up until game day. The speedy back was able to suit up, but the drop in usage may be related to his health. We will see if his carries increase against the Seahawks next Monday, but it is clear that Mostert is firmly behind the starting duo of Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida.
Oct 31, 2019
Available Thursday
Mostert (knee) is active for Thursday's game at Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Mostert and Matt Breida (ankle) followed an LP/DNP/LP practice regimen Monday through Wednesday, but the limitations won't hurt their ability to suit up Week 9. Mostert has been the clear No. 3 running back this season behind Breida and Tevin Coleman, averaging 17.6 snaps on offense and 8.3 touches per game.
Oct 31, 2019
On track to play
Mostert (knee), who is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Cardinals, is in line to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert's availability will be confirmed approximately 90 minutes before the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff, when the 49ers will unveil their inactive list. With Matt Breida (ankle) also on track to play, Mostert will likely serve as the No. 3 option in the 49ers' ground game.
Oct 30, 2019
Listed as questionable
Mostert (knee) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game in Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Mostert and Matt Breida (ankle) followed the same regimen this week, practicing in a limited capacity Monday and Wednesday while sitting out Tuesday's walkthrough at Levi's Stadium. Both running backs are questionable, which could allow Jeff Wilson to serve as the No. 2 behind top option Tevin Coleman.
Oct 29, 2019
No practice Tuesday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Mostert (knee) will be held out of practice Tuesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Both Mostert and Matt Breida (ankle) will be non-participants, leaving Tevin Coleman and Jeff Wilson as the 49ers' only healthy running backs. There seems to be a chance that Breida won't play Thursday, so if Mostert gets the all-clear to suit up Thursday, he'd be the third RB in what has been an explosive ground attack this season.
Oct 28, 2019
Limited by knee injury
Mostert (knee) was listed as a limited participant on Monday's estimated injury report.
ANALYSIS
For the third week in a row, Mostert's practice reps have been impacted by a knee injury, but he is coming off his best performance of the season. During Sunday's blowout of the Panthers, he racked up 60 yards and a TD on just nine carries, working primarily in garbage time. Assuming he gets cleared to play Thursday at Arizona, he'll likely be contained to special teams work again with Tevin Coleman, Matt Breida (ankle) and Jeff Wilson occupying the top three spots on the RB depth chart.
Oct 27, 2019
Suiting up Sunday
Mostert (knee) is active for Sunday's contest against the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Mostert was a limited practice participant this week, but he nonetheless will be available to the backfield and special team unit in this one. In Week 7, he didn't log a single offensive snap, so it's a good bet Jeff Wilson will handle any RB reps that don't go to Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida.
Oct 25, 2019
Questionable for Sunday
Mostert (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Mostert has been active in all six of the 49ers' contests this season, but his offensive snap share has dwindled since Tevin Coleman returned to action Week 5, reducing from 32 percent in that game to seven and zero percent in the ensuing two outings. After being limited in on all three injury reports this week, Mostert could be rested Sunday with Jeff Wilson taking on his special-teams duties and settling into the role of No. 3 RB behind Coleman and Matt Breida. The team will make a call on Mostert's availability about 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff
Oct 21, 2019
Limited to special teams
Mostert (knee) was cleared for action Sunday, but was limited to just 11 special teams snaps in a 9-0 win over the Redskins.
ANALYSIS
Jeff Wilson Jr. took over Mostert's role as the team's third rushing option Sunday. The 27-year-old's absence could be related to him dealing with a balky knee and the rainstorm that destroyed field conditions in Washington. Mostert's value was already limited with both Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida healthy, but he has virtually no fantasy value if he is being limited to just special teams heading into a Week 8 matchup with Carolina.
Oct 18, 2019
Deemed questionable
Mostert (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Washington, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Held out of practice the previous two days, Mostert upgraded to limited participation Friday. He's been limited to 11 carries and 31 snaps on offense in two games since Tevin Coleman returned from an ankle injury. The 49ers will release their inactive list approximately 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Oct 16, 2019
DNP due to knee injury
Mostert missed Wednesday's practice due to a knee injury, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The extent of the knee injury isn't known, and coach Kyle Shanahan termed it a "sprain" or "strain," per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. With his status in question for Sunday's contest at Washington, the door may be open for Jeff Wilson to rejoin the 49ers' running back rotation alongside Matt Breida and Tevin Coleman.
Sep 9, 2019
Injury opens up opportunity
Mostert moves up to second on the 49ers' running back depth chart with Tevin Coleman (ankle) already ruled out for Week 2, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
We got a brief look at Mostert's potential role over the final two and a half quarters of Week 1's matchup against the Buccaneers where he rushed for 40 yards on nine carries. The 27-year-old possesses breakaway speed, as evidenced by his 7.7 YPC in a limited role last season. Matt Breida figures to see the largest share of carries against the Bengals on Sunday, but Mostert could see 30-40 percent of running back touches if last week was any indicator.
Aug 24, 2019
Dealing with quad issue
Mostert didn't play in Saturday's preseason game at Kansas City due to a minor quadriceps injury, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Mostert already missed some time during training camp with a concussion, but this marks his first DNP of exhibition season. While just Jerick McKinnon (knee) had a known health concern before this contest, the 49ers backfield has been in regular flux in both of coach Kyle Shanahan's seasons to date. Mostert will look to shed the injury before the team's preseason finale Thursday versus the Chargers.
