That forced fumble was the first of Blankenship's four-year NFL career.

He saw his tackling numbers dip in the regular season and finished third behind Zack Baun (151) and Nakobe Dean (128), but Blankenship finished as the Eagles' second-leading tackler during the postseason behind Dean (33). Given his strong play in 2024, Blankenship could be in line for another, more sizable contract extension heading into the 2025 campaign.

Blankenship was forced to leave the Eagles' Week 4 game against the Buccaneers due to an illness. Philadelphia was on a bye for Week 5, and the additional rest has allowed Blankenship to to recover from his ailment. Through four regular-season games, Blankenship has recorded 25 tackles (19 solo) and three passes defended (two interceptions).

Blankenship had surgery to repair a groin injury suffered Week 18 against the Giants and is, "pretty much 100% back to normal," Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports.

Blankenship signed a one-year extension with the Eagles on Monday, after a 2023 campaign that saw him record 113 combined tackles, which led the team, despite playing just 15 regular-season games. The 25-year-old stated, "It feels good now not being as sore anymore like I did this past season dealing with it," possibly insinuating the injury was effecting him before his early exit in Week 18. A healthy Blankenship should be good news for the Eagles secondary in 2024.

The Eagles signed Blankenship (groin) to a one-year contract extension Monday.

Blankenship led Philadelphia in tackles (113 total, 79 solo) and interceptions (three) last season while suiting up for 15 regular-season games, so it makes complete sense for the team to extend him through 2025. A groin injury kept Blankenship from suiting up for the Eagles' wild-card loss to the Buccaneers, but given that his status for that contest came down to the wire, the safety should be fully healthy for the start of offseason workouts.

The second-year pro took a big step forward from a rookie season which saw him record just 34 tackles in 10 games, just four of which were starts. The former undrafted free agent is now a key part of the Eagles' defense and should remain one next season, as the groin injury which caused him to miss the team's wild-card loss shouldn't be a long-lasting problem given that he was listed as questionable leading up to the game.

Blankenship sustained a groin injury in the Eagles' regular-season finale and despite a week of no practice participation, he's got a shot at playing Monday night. If the 24-year-old is unable to play in Philadelphia's wild-card affair, it would leave Kevin Byard as the only available safety on the team's active roster (barring any signings or practice squad elevations).

The X-rays on Blankenship's ribs came back negative Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.

Blankenship has apparently avoided a major injury after exiting Sunday's loss to the Jets in the third quarter. While this comes as positive news, there is still no timetable on Blankenship's return and Terrell Edmunds is now the only healthy safety on Philadelphia's roster.

The 12 tackles were a career-high for the Middle Tennessee product who made the team as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He'll work to keep up the production Thursday against the Vikings.

Blankenship appeared in 10 regular-season contests in 2022 and posted 34 tackles, two pass defenses and one interception across 284 defensive snaps.

The undrafted rookie out of Middle Tennessee signed a three-year, $2.57 million contract with the Eagles following the 2022 Draft. He wasn't part of the active roster to start the year, but he eventually carved out a special-teams role and ultimately became a major part of the Eagles' secondary when C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Avonte Maddox were dealing with injuries. Most of Blankenship's regular-season production came during the final six games and started with an interception against Aaron Rodgers during his first extended playing time in Week 12. He also garnered a major defensive role during the divisional round and NFC Championship Game, totaling 11 tackles and one pass defense during those contests, but he didn't make an impact in the Super Bowl with Johnson and Maddox both available. Maddox is under contract for two more years, but Johnson is set to be a free agent, so Blankenship may have a clear path to a starting role if Johnson opts to sign elsewhere.
