Missing season with knee injury
Coach Jonathan Gannon said Wednesday that Murphy-Bunting underwent surgery on his knee to address the injury that landed him on Arizona's NFI list, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's still not fully clear what happened, but the update sheds some light on the circumstances surrounding the unusual development for Murphy-Bunting. He'll now have to begin rehabbing from the procedure, and in the meantime, his absence will force Arizona to lean more heavily on 2025 second-rounder Will Johnson and 2024 second-rounder Max Melton.

Done for season
Murphy-Bunting (undisclosed) was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list by the Cardinals on Thursday, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
ANALYSIS
The type of injury was not disclosed by either Murphy-Bunting or the Cardinals, but the nature of the transaction means that it happened away from team facilities and that the cornerback will miss the 2025 season. Murphy-Bunting started 15 games for the Cardinals in 2024, the first year of a three-year free-agent contract he signed the previous March. Arizona has two other experienced corners, Starling Thomas and Garrett Williams, back from last year as well as 2025 second-round pick Will Johnson.
Jan 15, 2025
Logs three picks in 2024
Murphy-Bunting finished the 2024 regular seasons with 52 tackles (30 solo), five pass defenses (three interceptions) and two forced fumbles across 15 games.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting signed a three-year, $25.5 million contract with the Cardinals in March of 2024 after playing with the Titans in 2023. He finished second in combined tackles among Cardinals' corners behind Garrett Williams (58), and Murphy-Bunting's three interceptions matched a career high he set during his rookie season in 2019 with the Buccaneers. Murphy-Bunting and Starling Thomas project to be Arizona's starting outside corners in 2025, though they should get competition from rookies Max Melton (wrist) and Elijah Jones (ankle) during training camp.

Murphy-Bunting (toe) is active for Sunday's matchup with the 49ers, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Yet even with Arizona eliminated from playoff contention, Murphy-Bunting is returning for the season finale. He has 51 tackles (29 solo), four pass breakups, including two interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 2024.
Jan 3, 2025
Questionable for Week 18
Murphy-Bunting (toe) is questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting got in a trio of limited practices this week after being injured in last Saturday's loss to the Rams, where he played just 49 percent of Arizona's defensive snaps. Dec 20, 2024
Questionable for Week 16
Murphy-Bunting (hand) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Panthers, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old was a limited practice participant throughout the week after sustaining a hand injury in the Cardinals' Week 15 win over the Patriots. ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting appears to have sustained a hand injury in the Cardinals' Week 15 win over the Patriots, despite playing 45 defensive snaps and recording two total tackles and one interception. The 27-year-old cornerback's practice participation Thursday and Friday will likely provide the best indication of whether he can play in Sunday's matchup against the Panthers. If he's unable to do so, expect Kei'Trel Clark to see increased work with the Cardinals' first-team defense.

Nov 3, 2024
Inactive versus Chicago
Murphy-Bunting (neck) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was a late downgrade to questionable after he was initially not given an injury designation at the end of the practice week Friday. Starling Thomas, Max Melton and Kei'Trel Clark figure to see most of the cornerback reps on the outside while Garrett Williams handles slot work.
Nov 3, 2024
Listed questionable for Week 9
The Cardinals are listing Murphy-Bunting (neck) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bears, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting had appeared on the Cardinals' Week 9 injury report due to the neck issue, but he initially didn't carry a designation into Sunday after putting in a full practice Friday. The cornerback may not have responded well to the full workout, however, prompting the Cardinals to downgrade him Sunday. Official word on the cornerback's status will arrive when Arizona releases its inactive list approximately 90 minutes before the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff.
Oct 30, 2024
Past neck issue
Murphy-Bunting (neck) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Zach Gershman of the Cardinals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting missed the Cardinals' Week 8 win over the Dolphins after sustaining a neck injury the week prior, but Wednesday's full practice suggests he's moved past the issue. Now that the first-year Cardinal has returned from injury, he's expected to start opposite Starling Thomas as part of Arizona's top outside cornerback duo.
Oct 25, 2024
Won't play Sunday
Murphy-Bunting (neck) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting sustained a neck injury in the Cardinals' Week 7 win over the Chargers and wasn't able to practice Thursday, so it's no surprise he's been ruled out ahead of Sunday's contest. Expect Kei'Trel Clark to see additional reps as one of Arizona's top outside cornerbacks in Murphy-Bunting's stead.
Oct 23, 2024
Considered unavailable Wednesday
Murphy-Bunting (neck) was considered to be a non-participant at the Cardinals' walkthrough Wednesday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS

Oct 21, 2024
Questionable to return
Murphy-Bunting is questionable to return to Monday's contest against the Chargers, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting has been dealing with a neck injury throughout the week, ultimately giving it a go Monday night. He appears to have tweaked the injury in the first half versus Los Angeles, leaving his availability for the rest of the game up in the air. In Murphy-Bunting's absence, Max Melton will see a larger workload in the secondary.
Oct 21, 2024
Cleared to play Monday night
Murphy-Bunting (neck) is active for Monday night's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was injured in last Sunday's loss to the Packers and was listed as questionable for Monday night. He should draw plenty of Joshua Palmer in coverage on the outside.

Questionable to play Week 7
Murphy-Bunting (neck) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting suffered a neck injury during the Cardinals' Week 6 loss to the Packers. He's been a limited participant in all three practices this week, which gives him a chance at suiting up Monday. If Murphy-Bunting is unable to play, Kei'Trel Clark and Max Melton would be candidates to step up as the second starting corner opposite Starling Thomas.
Oct 13, 2024
Will not return
Murphy-Bunting (neck) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Packers, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting had three combined tackles and a pass defended before his exit. His departure will leave the Cardinals down one of their starting corners for the remainder of Week 6. Max Melton will likely continue seeing an uptick in snaps while the 27-year-old is sidelined.
Mar 11, 2024
Moving west
Murphy-Bunting is slated to sign with the Cardinals on Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After four years in Tampa Bay, Murphy-Bunting spent 2023 in Tennessee where he appeared in 14 games and recorded 57 tackles (42 solo), eight passes defended, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. He'll be expected to help bolster a secondary that gave up a 102.9 quarterback rating last season, which was second worst in the league. He'll likely be starting opposite cornerback Garrett Williams, who was selected in the third round of the 2023 Draft.
Feb 12, 2024
Big role in Tennessee
Murphy-Bunting recorded 57 total tackles, eight passes defended, two interceptions and two forced fumbles across 14 games with the Titans in 2023.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting joined the Titans on a one-year deal before the 2023 season, and he topped 800 defensive snaps for the second time in his five-year career. He also logged a career-high in tackles and matched his career-high in passes defended, setting him up well to enter the free agency market once again this offseason.
Dec 29, 2023
Ready for Sunday
Murphy-Bunting (hip) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Texans, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting opened the Titans' week of practice with back-to-back limited sessions, but after a full workload Friday, the 26-year-old cornerback seems to have moved past his hip issue. The Central Michigan product has started all 12 games he's appeared in for Tennessee this year, logging 48 total tackles, six pass deflections and one interception.
Dec 22, 2023
Unavailable for Week 16
Murphy-Bunting (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup with the Seahawks, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting suffered hip injury in the team's overtime loss to the Texans in Week 15 and he'll now be forced to miss at least one contest. In his absence, Eric Garror is a candidate to see an increased workload in Tennessee's secondary versus Seattle.

ANALYSIS

Nov 17, 2023
Won't play at Jacksonville
Murphy-Bunting (thumb) is listed as out for Sunday's game at the Jaguars, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting will miss his second straight game as he nurses a thumb injury he sustained in Week 9 at Pittsburgh. In his stead, Kristian Fulton and Roger McCreary figure to again serve as Tennessee's top corners in Week 11.
Nov 15, 2023
Limited at practice Wednesday
Murphy-Bunting (thumb) will be limited at practice Wednesday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting sat out of Sunday's loss at Tampa Bay, but he'll be present for the Titans' first practice of the new week. If he can upgrade to full participation Thursday or Friday, he could likely avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.
Nov 10, 2023
Won't play at Tampa Bay
Murphy-Bunting (thumb) is out for Sunday's game at the Buccaneers, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting will miss his first game of the season as he tends to a thumb injury he sustained in Week 9 at Pittsburgh. In his absence, Tre Avery will likely see an expanded role in Week 10.
Nov 8, 2023
Won't practice Wednesday
Murphy-Bunting (thumb) will not participate at practice Wednesday, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike Vrabel also said Wednesday that Murphy-Bunting is doubtful for Week 10. He'll probably need to get back to practice Thursday or Friday to have any chance of playing Sunday at Tampa Bay.
Nov 2, 2023
Exits with injury
Murphy-Bunting is questionable to return to Thursday's game against the Steelers due to a thumb injury, Alan Saunders of PittsburghSportsNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting did not log a statistic before exiting during the first half Thursday. The 26-year-old cornerback played nearly every defensive during Tennessee's first seven games of the season, accumulating 31 tackles and four passes defended. With Murphy-Bunting's return now up in the air and Roger McCreary (hamstring) already inactive, it's likely that Tre Avery will have to step into a bigger role opposite Kristian Fulton.
Oct 16, 2023
Gets first interception of season
Murphy-Bunting recorded three tackles and an interception in Sunday's 24-16 loss to Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting found himself in the right place at the right time in the middle of the third quarter when Lamar Jackson sailed a second-down pass over the head of Rashod Bateman and into his hands. He's arguably set up even better for Week 8 after a bye, when Tennessee is set to host Atlanta.
Sep 25, 2023
Not in concussion protocol
Coach Mike Vrabel said Monday that Murphy-Bunting has been cleared of a concussion, Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com reports.

Sep 24, 2023
Being evaluated for concussion
Murphy-Bunting left Sunday's game against Cleveland and is being evaluated for a concussion, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS

Mar 20, 2023
Signing deal with Titans
Murphy-Bunting and the Titans are set to agree on a one-year contract Monday, Matt Moraitis of Titans Wire reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting can make up to $5 million dollars next season as he heads to Tennessee following four seasons with the Buccaneers. The cornerback appeared in 12 games in 2022, recording a career-low 31 tackles while also producing seven pass deflections, two interceptions and a forced fumble. Murphy-Bunting will step right into a prominent role in the Titans' secondary and has a shot at earning himself a long-term contract with a "prove it" deal in 2023.
Jan 25, 2023
Solid season in '22
Murphy-Bunting finished the 2022 regular season with 31 tackles (19 solo), two interceptions, five additional defensed passes and one forced fumble across 12 games.
ANALYSIS
The fourth-year defensive back added six tackles (four solo) during the wild-card loss to the Cowboys. Murphy-Bunting missed five games overall due to quadriceps issues, but by the numbers, he turned in his most effective season in coverage yet. Murphy-Bunting surrendered a paltry 37.5 percent completion rate and 3.9 yards per attempt as a primary defender across 411 defensive snaps, and both his interception and total pass-breakups tallies ranked as the second highest of his career. An unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year, Murphy-Bunting could potentially garner an attractive deal on the open market as an up-and-coming cornerback.
Dec 18, 2022
Back in action
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) is active for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After having missed both of the last two contests due to a quadriceps issue, Murphy-Bunting is now slated to start at cornerback alongside Carlton Davis given that Jamel Dean (toe) is unavailable this weekend.
Dec 16, 2022
Considered questionable
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Bengals, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting has missed back-to-back games due to a quadriceps issue and is in danger of missing a third despite being a full participant at each practice this week. Jamel Dean (toe) has already been ruled out, so if Murphy-Bunting also remains sidelined, Dee Delaney and Zyon McCollum would both be candidates for increased roles opposite Carlton Davis.
Dec 14, 2022
Full participant Wednesday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) was a full participant at Wednesday's practice, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting missed back-to-back games due to a quadriceps issue, but he appears on track to suit up in Week 15 after logging a full practice Wednesday. Jamel Dean (toe) is still in a walking boot, so Murphy-Bunting may operate as the No. 2 cornerback opposite Carlton Davis against Joe Burrow and the Bengals on Sunday.
Dec 11, 2022
Remains sidelined Sunday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) has been ruled inactive ahead of Sunday's game versus San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting will miss his second consecutive game with a quadriceps injury. With starting safeties Mike Edwards (hamstring) and Antoine Winfield (ankle) also inactive, Tampa Bay's secondary will be undermanned while it faces the 49ers' stable of talented offensive playmakers.
Dec 9, 2022
Deemed questionable for Sunday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) is questionable for Sunday's contest against the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting, who missed Week 13 due to a quadriceps injury, logged back-to-back limited sessions to start Week 14 prep but was upgraded to a full participant Friday, suggesting he's on track to suit up Sunday. If available, he figures to operate as the slot cornerback behind Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis.
Dec 5, 2022
Sitting out Monday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) is inactive Monday against the Saints, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was able to log limited practices throughout the week, but he'll be unable to take the field in Week 13's divisional showdown with the Saints. The fourth-year pro suffered a contusion Week 12 against the Browns and work to be ready Week 15 against the 49ers. In his absence, Zyon McCollum and Dee Delaney may see increased opportunities.
Dec 3, 2022
Unlikely to play Monday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) is listed as doubtful for Monday's game versus New Orleans, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After being limited at practice all week, it appears Murphy-Bunting will more than likely have to sit out in Week 13 with a hamstring injury he sustained in Week 12 at Cleveland. If Murphy-Bunting is indeed out, rookie fifth-rounder Zyon McCollum would probably be in line for increased reps on the boundaries.
Nov 28, 2022
Bruised up Sunday
Murphy-Bunting suffered a contusion in Sunday's loss to the Browns, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The location of the contusion is unknown, but it'll leave Murphy-Bunting questionable for Week 13 against the Saints. With Mike Edwards also dealing with a contusion and Antoine Winfield suffering a sprained ankle in Sunday's loss as well, the Buccaneers secondary could be depleted against New Orleans.
Nov 10, 2022
Six tackles in return
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) posted six tackles (four solo), including one for loss, in the Buccaneers' 16-13 win over the Rams in Week 9.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting's return from a three-game absence due to a quad injury saw him tie for second on the team in tackles and play a role in keeping the Rams' passing game mostly in check. The tackle tally was also a season high for the fourth-year cornerback, but as long as he's slotting into a rotational role, his overall IDP production will be capped.
Nov 6, 2022
Ready to play again
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) is active for Sunday's game against the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting has been sidelined since suffering a quad injury against the Falcons in Week 5, though he was a full participant in each practice leading up to Sunday's contest. The veteran's return should further help supplement the Buccaneers' secondary, as fellow cornerback Carlton Davis was also ruled active against the Rams.
Nov 4, 2022
Deemed questionable for Sunday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Rams, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was a full participant at each practice during Week 9 prep but is still listed as questionable for Sunday. The fourth-year defensive back hasn't played since Week 5, so Tampa Bay will likely be cautious rushing him back into game action.
Nov 2, 2022
Practices in full capacity
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting has been sidelined since Week 5 while on the mend from a quad injury, but the practice report for Wednesday showed he's nearing a return. Assuming he can piece together a few more practices later in the week, he should be ready to roll Sunday against the Rams.
Oct 26, 2022
Remains out Thursday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Thursday's primetime matchup against the Ravens, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting is set to miss a third straight game due to a quadriceps injury. Carlton Davis (hip) is also out, leaving Zyon McCollum and Dee Delaney to see increased roles opposite of Jamel Dean in Tampa Bay's secondary.
Oct 21, 2022
Out again Sunday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Panthers, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting will miss a second game in a row in Week 7 while he nurses a quadriceps injury as the Buccaneers take on the Panthers. Zyon McCollum and Dee Delaney will once again see an increase in usage Sunday.
Oct 14, 2022
Ruled out Sunday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting exited Sunday's game against the Falcons due to his quadriceps issue and will be forced to miss at least one additional matchup. Zyon McCollum and Dee Delaney are candidates to see increased roles against Pittsburgh.
Oct 12, 2022
Sits out Wednesday
Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) did not participate during the Buccaneers' practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was forced out during Sunday's win over Atlanta with a hip injury, which kept him sidelined for Tampa Bay's first practice of Week 6. The 25-year-old was used exclusively on special teams over the first three games of the season, though he recorded five tackles and an interception while playing 40 of his 70 total snaps on defense since Week 4. Murphy will now have two more practices to suit up again before this Sunday's game against Pittsburgh.
Oct 9, 2022
Out for remainder of game
Murphy-Bunting has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting recorded two tackles before leaving the contest in the second half. In his absence, Dee Delaney figures to step up as the top nickel cornerback for the remainder of the contest.
Oct 6, 2022
Gets INT in extended action
Murphy-Bunting recorded three tackles (one solo) and recorded an interception during the Buccaneers' 41-31 loss to the Chiefs during Week 4.
ANALYSIS
The fourth-year pro, who lost out on a starting cornerback job in a training camp/preseason battle with Jamel Dean, logged his first 22 snaps of the season on defense when Carlton Davis exited with a shoulder stinger. Murphy-Bunting made good use of the opportunity, picking off a pass intended for JuJu Smith-Schuster at the Buccaneers' 33-yard line with 4:58 remaining, a turnover that led to Tampa Bay's final touchdown of the night. Despite the splash play, Murphy-Bunting could be back down to a minimal role for Sunday's Week 5 clash against the Falcons, as Davis was able to return as a full participant for Wednesday's practice.
Sep 5, 2022
Loses positional battle
Head coach Todd Bowles said Monday that Jamel Dean is expected to start over Murphy-Bunting for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Throughout training camp, Murphy-Bunting and Dean competed for a starting role opposite of fellow cornerback Carlton Davis. The 2019 second-rounder is still expected to receive rotational snaps in the team's secondary, but he could see an uptick in usage if Dean struggles early on. In 41 career games played, Murphy-Bunting accumulated 157 tackles and four interceptions in that span.
Aug 27, 2022
Still battling for starting role
Murphy-Bunting remains in a battle with Jamel Dean for the starting left cornerback spot heading into Saturday night's preseason finale against the Colts, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting is already a proven commodity, having tallied 157 tackles, four interceptions, an additional 10 defensed passes, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and even one sack in his first 41 career games. The 2019 second-round pick has a formidable competitor in his draft-class mate Dean, however, as the latter has proven more reliable from a health standpoint and has been even more adept at getting his hands on the ball. Nevertheless, even if Murphy-Bunting happens to lose out on the competition, he should still log plenty of snaps as a rotational cornerback.
Jan 23, 2022
Ready to go for divisional round
Murphy-Bunting (hamstring) is active for Sunday's divisional matchup with the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting didn't play in the wild-card win over the Eagles and was questionable heading into the divisional round. However, the 2019 second-round pick will be available against Matthew Stafford and the Rams' potent passing attack. Murphy-Bunting didn't play in the Week 3 matchup between these two teams due to an elbow injury.
Jan 21, 2022
Deemed questionable for Sunday
Murphy-Bunting (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's divisional matchup with the Rams, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting didn't play in the wild-card win over the Eagles and started the week out as a non-participant during Wednesday's walkthrough. However, he was able to progress to a full-participant during Friday's practice, so despite the questionable tag, it appears the 2019 second-round pick is trending towards being available against Matthew Stafford and the Rams' passing attack.
Jan 20, 2022
Limited practice Thursday
Murphy-Bunting (hamstring) was a limited participant at Thursday's practice, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The cornerback was estimated as a non-participant at Wednesday's walk-through but was able to log a limited practice Thursday. Murphy-Bunting missed the Buccaneers' wild-card win over the Eagles with a hamstring issue, but his participation Thursday is a step in the right direction ahead of Sunday's divisional-round contest versus the Rams.
Jan 17, 2022
Could play in divisional round
Murphy-Bunting (hamstring) could have a chance to be active during the divisional round of the playoffs, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was inactive for Sunday's wild-card round win over the Eagles, but a decision on his availability did come down to pre-game warmups. He had logged a week straight of limited practices prior to being ruled out for Tampa Bay's playoff opener, so another week of progressing in his recovery could put Murphy-Bunting in proper shape to play.
Jan 16, 2022
Not playing in playoff opener
Murphy-Bunting (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's wild-card game against the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Though Murphy-Bunting was a limited practice throughout the week before being listed as questionable heading into the postseason opener, the cornerback wasn't cleared to play after his hamstring was still bothering him in pregame warmups, according to Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. On a positive note, fellow starting cornerback Carlton Davis (back) avoided the inactive list after being listed as questionable, so Tampa Bay shouldn't be too shorthanded in the secondary.
Jan 14, 2022
Questionable for Sunday
Murphy-Bunting (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's wild-card matchup with the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was limited at practice all week and will likely be a game-time decision ahead of Sunday's 1:00 PM ET kickoff. The 2019 second-round pick missed a majority of the season with an elbow injury, but he appeared in nine games and registered 43 tackles and three pass deflections during the regular season. If he's unable to suit up, Ross Cockrell and Dee Delaney would likely be in line for increased snaps.

Limited again Thursday
Murphy-Bunting (hamstring) was limited at Thursday's practice, Carmen Vitali of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The cornerback opened the week with a limited effort on Wednesday and remained a partial participant at Thursday's practice while dealing with a hamstring injury. Murphy-Bunting's ability to at least participate early in the week likely means that he will be available for the Buccaneers' wild-card matchup against the Eagles on Sunday.
Jan 12, 2022
Limited at walkthrough
Murphy-Bunting (hamstring) was estimated as a limited participant at Wednesday's team walkthrough, Carmen Vitali of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The cornerback popped up on the injury report Wednesday with a hamstring issue, but it appears minor considering he was still marked as a limited participant. Murphy-Bunting seems likely to be available for Sunday's Wild Card matchup against the Eagles.
Jan 2, 2022
Set to face Jets
Murphy-Bunting (illness) is active for Sunday's game against the Jets, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday and is now active as expected. He'll return to a key role in the Buccaneers' secondary, as he's logged at least five tackles in five of his last six contests.
Jan 1, 2022
Back from COVID list
Murphy-Bunting was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting and fellow corner Jamel Dean hit the list Tuesday and were activated together Saturday. Neither player traveled with the team but each is able to travel separately to the game against the Jets. Both are listed as questionable ahead of Week 17.
Dec 28, 2021
Lands on COVID list
The Buccaneers have placed Murphy-Bunting on their reseve/COVID-19 list, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting's placement on the COVID list is the result of a positive test. Thus, he will be required to clear the league's health and safety protocols before returning. Ross Cockrell will presumably step in for him at cornerback if he is unable to return for Week 17.
Dec 15, 2021
Racks up eight stops
Murphy-Bunting collected eight tackles (seven solo) in the Buccaneers' 33-27 overtime win over the Bills in Week 14.
ANALYSIS
The tackle tally was a season high for Murphy-Bunting, who also established a new high-water mark in snaps (75). The third-year cornerback has at least five tackles in each of his last four games, but he's also allowing a career-worst 109.4 quarterback rating in primary coverage and could see his playing time take a hit as soon as the Week 15 divisional clash versus the Saints if Carlton Davis goes back to a starting role and Richard Sherman (Achilles) can suit up.
Dec 8, 2021
Not listed on injury report
Murphy-Bunting (undisclosed) wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting dealt with an unspecified injury in Sunday's win over the Falcons, but it doesn't appear as though the issue will impact his Week 14 availability. He's totaled 18 tackles (13 solo), two pass defenses and a forced fumble across three appearances since returning to the field in Week 11.
Dec 5, 2021
Suffers undisclosed injury Sunday
Coach Bruce Arians said after Sunday's win over the Falcons that there is no update on Murphy-Bunting's undisclosed injury, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting recorded six tackles (four solo) during Sunday's win over the Falcons, but he apparently picked up an injury during the contest. More information about his injury will likely be disclosed when Tampa Bay resumes practicing ahead of Week 14.
Nov 23, 2021
Solid showing in return
Murphy-Bunting (elbow) compiled seven tackles and forced a fumble Monday in the Buccaneers' 30-10 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Back in action after missing the Bucs' previous eight games with a dislocated elbow, Murphy-Bunting appeared to be in top form in his return. Murphy-Bunting played 57 of the Bucs' 58 defensive snaps in the win, and according to Pro Football Focus, he was the highest-graded Tampa Bay player from either side of the ball. The 24-year-old's return was a major boon for a Buccaneers secondary that still has two other key cornerbacks in Carlton Davis (quadriceps) and Richard Sherman (calf) on injured reserve.
Nov 22, 2021
Back from injured reserve
Murphy-Bunting (elbow) was activated from injured reserve Monday, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting will rejoin the active roster ahead of Monday's matchup with the Giants after missing the past eight games with a dislocated elbow. He should immediately step into a significant role given Tampa Bay's continued injury concerns at cornerback.
Nov 22, 2021
Expected to return Monday
Murphy-Bunting (elbow) is expected to be activated from injured reserve ahead of Monday's game against the Giants, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was cleared to practice in early November, and it appears as though he'll return to game action for Monday night's matchup after missing eight games with a dislocated elbow. Several of the team's cornerbacks are dealing with injuries ahead of the Week 11 matchup, so the 24-year-old should see plenty of work against the Giants.
Nov 12, 2021
May play Sunday
Coach Bruce Arians said Friday that Murphy-Bunting (elbow) has a chance to play Sunday versus Washington, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting hasn't played since Week 1 due to a dislocated elbow, but it seems he's made good progress since being designated to return to practice Nov. 2. Tampa Bay's secondary has struggled in Murphy-Bunting's absence, but it looks like a return to the field could come as early as Sunday's road matchup against the Football Team.
Nov 2, 2021
Designated to return
Murphy-Bunting (elbow) was designated to return from injured reserve Tuesday, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old has been inactive since getting injured in the Buccaneers' first game of the season versus the Cowboys on Sept. 13. The team will have 21 days to either activate the cornerback or place him back on the IR ending his season. Murphy-Bunting said Sunday that he is eyeing a return for Week 10 versus Washington.
Oct 31, 2021
Eyeing Week 10 return
Murphy-Bunting (elbow) won't play Sunday against the Saints, but he is progressing well and could return after the Buccaneers' Week 9 bye, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting has been on injured reserve since dislocating his elbow during Week 1. The timetable for his return was always murky, but he appears to be making good progress and could return after the Buccaneers' Week 9 bye.
Oct 6, 2021
Not expected back 'anytime soon'
Coach Bruce Arians said Wednesday that Murphy-Bunting (elbow) isn't expected back "anytime soon," Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was placed on injured reserve after dislocating his elbow in Week 1. He's eligible to return this week against the Dolphins, but he is expected to remain sidelined for at least another week. Carlton Davis (quadriceps) is also going to be sidelined for an extended period, and Jamel Dean is still nursing a knee injury, so Richard Sherman and Ross Cockrell will continue to play a large role for Tampa Bay's secondary.
Oct 4, 2021
Making progress in recovery
Coach Bruce Arians said Monday that Murphy-Bunting (elbow) is making progress in his recovery but is still "a ways" away from returning, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting suffered a dislocated right elbow in Week 1 and has been on injured reserve since then. He's eligible to return as early as Sunday against the Dolphins, but it sounds as though he'll require additional time to fully recover. Ross Cockrell should continue to see additional playing time while Murphy-Bunting is sidelined.
Sep 14, 2021
May be done for the season
Coach Bruce Arians said that Murphy-Bunting's (shoulder) timetable to return is "anywhere from four weeks until the end of the season", Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Buccaneers will seek a second opinion before jumping to conclusions with Murphy-Bunting's injury. The 24-year-old played a critical role for Tampa Bay during their Super Bowl run last year, and his absence will leave a huge hole in the secondary. Ross Cockrell stepped up in Week 1 when Murphy-Bunting went down, and he will likely retain that role moving forward.
Sep 13, 2021
Lands on IR
The Buccaneers placed Murphy-Bunting (elbow) on injured reserve Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting dislocated his elbow during the season opener and will be forced to miss at least three weeks. The 24-year-old was a key piece for Tampa Bay's postseason run as he recorded an interception in all three playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl. Ross Cockrell will remain as the team's nickel corner in Week 2 against the Falcons.
Sep 10, 2021
Suffers dislocated elbow
Head coach Bruce Arians said Murphy-Bunting suffered a dislocated elbow during Thursday's 31-29 win over the Cowboys, Greg Auman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Arians added that he believes Murphy-Bunting "is going to be alright." We shouldn't read too much into Arians' postgame comments, and we should have a more definitive timeline on his return over the next few days. Murphy-Bunting is expected to miss time regardless, so Ross Cockrell will likely remain as the team's nickel corner in Week 2 against the Falcons.
Sep 9, 2021
Out with elbow injury
Murphy-Bunting (elbow) has been ruled out for the rest of Thursday's game against the Cowboys, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting's arm was caught up between two other players while in coverage late in the first quarter. The television replay displayed a potentially gruesome injury, but further testing will reveal the extent of his injury and the corresponding recovery time. The 2019 second-round pick is a key part of the Buccaneers' secondary. Ross Cockrell is filling in at nickel corner for the time being.

Six tackles in SB LV win
Murphy-Bunting recorded six tackles (three solo) and was credited with a defensed pass during the Buccaneers' 31-9 win over the Chiefs in Super LV on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The second-year cornerback finished in a three-way tie for second on the night in tackles for the Buccaneers, capping off a strong postseason run. Murphy-Bunting recorded an interception apiece in each of Tampa Bay's first three playoff games, and he posted no fewer than five tackles in each of the last three contests of the title run. That strong stretch followed a regular season during which Murphy-Bunting posted 70 tackles (53 solo), an interception, two additional defensed passes, one fumble and fumble recovery. While those numbers made him a solid IDP option for a corner, he struggled at times in coverage while allowing an elevated 69.4 percent completion rate and five touchdowns in primary coverage. Murphy-Bunting was also charged with a pair of drops on would-be INTs that would have allowed him to match his rookie tally of three picks had he held on to them. The Central Michigan product did once again prove extremely durable, however, logging 882 snaps on defense and another 108 on special teams while

Steps to forefront in win
Murphy-Bunting posted five tackles (all solo), including one for loss, recorded an interception and was credited with an additional defensed pass in the Buccaneers' 30-20 divisional-round win over the Saints on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The second-year cornerback's standout IDP line underscores the impact he had on the contest, and his interception with 4:25 remaining on a pass intended for Jared Cook essentially sealed the win for the Buccaneers. Murphy-Bunting certainly experienced his share of adversity this past regular season while allowing a 69.4 percent completion rate and five touchdown passes in primary coverage, but he's now defensed at least one pass in three straight games dating back to Week 17 and has a pick in each of Tampa Bay's first two playoff contests. He'll look to turn the hat trick while dealing with the formidable challenge of trying to slow down Aaron Rodgers and his arsenal of weapons during Sunday's NFC Championship Game.
Jan 5, 2021
Strong conclusion to second season
Murphy-Bunting recorded six tackles (five solo) including one for loss, defensed a pass and recovered a fumble in the Buccaneers' 44-27 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The second-year defensive back atoned to a significant degree from a disastrous Week 15 matchup against the Falcons during which Calvin Ridley repeatedly victimized him coverage. Murphy-Bunting significantly boosted his rookie-season tackle total of 44 by compiling 70 stops across 16 games in 2020, but he continued to be picked on through the air with notable success. After giving up a 64.8 percent completion rate and four touchdowns in primary coverage as a rookie, Murphy-Bunting saw the former figure climb to 69.4 percent in 2020 while also allowing five scoring tosses and a 105.3 QB rating. He'll look to tighten things up during the upcoming postseason.
Dec 24, 2020
Struggles in coverage during win
Murphy-Bunting posted five tackles (four solo) in the Buccaneers' 31-27 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The tackle total was serviceable from an IDP perspective, but Murphy-Bunting was often humbled while trying to keep up with Calvin Ridley, who recorded multiple catches against him. That included the fifth touchdown pass the 2019 second-round pick has given up this season, exceeding his rookie total in that category by one. That's not the only metric that's risen unfavorably for Murphy-Bunting in 2020, as he's also seen his completion percentage allowed in primary coverage bump up from 2019's 64.8 percent to 73.5 percent. The Central Michigan product does now have a solid 62 tackles (46 solo), although many are the result of the high catch rate he's facilitated.
Nov 24, 2020
10 tackles Monday
Murphy-Bunting recorded 10 tackles (five solo) across 58 defensive snaps in Monday's loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was the leading tackler for the Buccaneers on Monday, bringing his season total to 47 (33 solo). It was the second-year corner's highest single-game tackle count of his career. He'll look to keep up the high level of play Sunday against the Chiefs.
Nov 13, 2020
Clear of injury designation
Murphy-Bunting (groin) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Carolina, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, but he was able to progress to full participation Friday to avoid the questionable tag. Murphy-Bunting should continue to play a significant role in Tampa Bay's secondary.
Nov 11, 2020
Operates as limited participant
Murphy-Bunting (groin) practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting dealt with a groin injury through the first few weeks of the season, but he never missed a game and hasn't been on the injury report since Week 4. It's unclear how serious his current injury is, but the second-year cornerback played just 36 percent of the team's defensive snaps in this past Sunday's loss to the Saints. It's possible that he was hampered by this groin injury during the primetime matchup, although it's equally as possible that he was held out because of the blowout nature of the game. Murphy-Bunting's status should become more clear over the next two days of practice.
Nov 3, 2020
Rollercoaster night in Week 8 win
Murphy-Bunting supplied six tackles (three solo) and recorded an interception in the Buccaneers' 25-23 win over the Giants on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
The second-year cornerback's early fourth-quarter interception was key, as it came at the Buccaneers' 34-yard line with New York trying to expand a 17-15 lead. However, Murphy-Bunting was briefly at the other end of the spectrum later in the period, as he allowed Golden Tate to get behind him with 28 seconds remaining and make a leaping 19-yard touchdown grab that brought the Giants within two. Although Tampa Bay would ultimately escape with the win, the momentary lapse threatened to make Murphy-Bunting's gaffe a critical one. The 23-year-old now has two picks on the campaign, while his six tackles served as his second-highest tally of the season.
Oct 10, 2020
Racks up tackles in loss
Murphy-Bunting posted seven tackles (six solo) in the Buccaneers' 20-19 loss to the Bears on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The second-year cornerback tied Carlton Davis for the team lead in tackles on his way to a season-high figure in that category. Murphy-Bunting has yet to record an interception after notching three during his rookie 2019 campaign, as he's struggled early on in coverage by allowing an 80.0 percent completion rate and a pair of touchdowns on the 10 passes in which he's been the primary defender.
Oct 2, 2020
Off Week 4 injury report
Murphy-Bunting (groin) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Chargers after practicing in full Friday.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting went for an MRI after picking up the injury in last week's win over the Broncos, but the results were encouraging and he's set to suit up against Los Angeles come Sunday.
Sep 28, 2020
Set for MRI
Murphy-Bunting (groin/hamstring) will undergo an MRI after leaving early in Sunday's win over the Broncos, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting may have a serious soft-tissue injury that would force him to miss time, but head coach Bruce Arians is confident that Antoine Winfield can cover the slot in his stead, per Smith. The results of the MRI should be available at some point this week. It's worth keeping an eye on since the Buccaneers' defense has been one of the top units thus far.
Sep 27, 2020
Downgraded to out
Murphy-Bunting (groin/hamstring) won't return to Sunday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was initially listed as doubtful to return due to groin and hamstring injuries, and he'll now officially have to wait until Week 4 to make a potential return. In the event that Murphy-Bunting is forced to miss more time, Antoine Winfield will lock down the slot while Mike Edwards takes over at strong safety.
Sep 27, 2020
Unlikely to return Sunday
Murphy-Bunting was forced out of Sunday's game versus the Broncos with a hamstring injury, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting isn't expected to return Sunday. Antoine Winfield is slated to cover the slot for the time being, which will open the door for Mike Edwards to operate at strong safety. Expect an update on Murphy-Bunting when the Buccaneers release an injury report Wednesday.
Jul 7, 2020
Ready for Year 2
Murphy-Bunting (ankle) enters his second year in the league locked in as one of Tampa Bay's starting cornerbacks, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting appeared in all 16 regular-season games as a rookie, compiling 44 tackles (37 solo) and three interceptions, though he left the season finale against Atlanta prematurely with an ankle injury. The Buccaneers will now once again be relying on a healthy Murphy-Bunting to serve as a leader in the secondary heading into Year 2. The 23-year-old will look to take a step forward in his development while facing a division that contains the likes of Julio Jones, Michael Thomas and D.J. Moore.
Dec 29, 2019
2019 season over
Murphy-Bunting (ankle) won't return to Sunday's game against the Falcons, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear how the 22-year-old suffered the injury, but the fact that he was immediately downgraded to out is a negative sign. Murphy-Bunting's first NFL season will end with 44 tackles (37 solo) and three interceptions while playing all 16 games. For the remainder of Week 17, however, look for Jamel Dean and M.J. Stewart to see an uptick in snaps.
Nov 28, 2019
Practices without limitations
Murphy-Bunting (knee) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting was limited in Wednesday's practice, but he now appears to have fully shed his knee injury. Barring any setbacks, the rookie second-round pick will play a key role in Tampa Bay's secondary during Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Nov 26, 2019
Productive prior to injury Sunday
Murphy-Bunting recorded nine tackles (seven solo) in Sunday's 35-22 win over the Falcons before exiting the contest with a knee injury.
ANALYSIS
Murphy-Bunting posted a season high in tackles in Week 12, but a knee injury sustained during the latter portion of the game brings his Week 13 status into question.
Nov 24, 2019
Exits Sunday's game
Murphy-Bunting (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against Atlanta, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear how Murphy-Bunting picked up the injury, but he exited the fourth quarter. As long as the 2019 second-round pick is sidelined, Jamel Dean and Ryan Smith are the only healthy depth cornerbacks on the roster.
