Clears concussion protocol
Neal does not have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Neal entered concussion protocol in Week 2 against the Saints. He practiced in full Friday and his lack of designation suggests he has passed the league's protocol. Neal should be set for a role on special teams.

Enters concussion protocol
Neal has entered the league's concussion protocol following the 49ers' Week 2 win over the Saints, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Neal took a hit to the head during kickoff coverage in the first half of Sunday's game, and further tests confirmed that the 2018 fifth-rounder suffered a concussion. He will need to progress through the league's five-step concussion protocol in order to be cleared to play in the 49ers' Week 3 clash against the Cardinals on Sunday, Sept. 21.

Being checked for concussion
Neal is being evaluated for a concussion and is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Saints, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Neal was injured on kickoff coverage in the first half and is being evaluated for a concussion. He's the only backup safety on the active roster behind Ji'Ayir Brown and Marques Sigle, but Utpon Stout or Chase Lucas could rotate from the slot corner to safety if needed.

Moving to NFC
The 49ers are signing Neal to a two-year contract, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
To this point, Neal had spent his entire NFL career in the AFC, playing six seasons with Buffalo and one with Miami. He's worked almost strictly as a special teams ace in recent campaigns, logging fewer than 60 regular-season defensive snaps and more than 300 special teams snaps each of the past three years. Neal will likely take on a similar role in San Francisco.

Changes AFC East teams
Neal signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins on Wednesday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Neal was cut by the Bills last Wednesday, and he'll now join Buffalo teammate Jordan Poyer in Miami's secondary. The Jacksonville State product has primarily been a special teams player since entering the league in 2018 and will likely earn a similar role with his new squad.

Cut from team
Neal was released by the Bills on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Neal will be another cap casualty for Buffalo ahead of the start of the new league year, March 13. The 29-year-old has been a regular on special teams for the Bills since being selected in the fifth round of the 2018 Draft.

Will play Sunday
Neal (ankle) will play in Buffalo's game against the Dolphins on Sunday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Neal is no longer on the injury report despite missing practice with an ankle injury earlier in the week. Through three games so far, the 29-year-old has seen the majority of his playing time come on special teams and has logged three tackles (one solo).

Sits out practice
Neal (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Neal is one of many pieces in the Bills' secondary who popped up on the team's injury report Wednesday. The Jacksonville State product mostly sees work on special teams, but depending on his health, as well as his teammates, he could be in line for a larger role Sunday against the Dolphins.

In mix for starting spot
Neal is expected to compete for a starting spot opposite Tre'Davious White, Dante Lasting of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The open spot seems to be up for grabs between Dane Jackson, first-round rookie Kaiir Elam and Neal. The latter may be more valuable in a more all-around role due to his versatility, and if that comes into fruition, Neal will end up playing a key jack-of-all-trades role, a hybrid spot he's excelled at. While his two teammates are more natural cornerbacks, Neal does have the most tenure of the three and has done well with anything the Bills have thrown at him in his four-year career. This is a job battle worth monitoring throughout the summer, and if White is slow to return from his knee injury, it could end up being two of the three competitors that end up with a starting job to begin the season.

Re-ups with Buffalo
Neal re-signed for three years Wednesday, the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2018 fifth-rounder isn't a starter, but he does provide excellent depth in a strong Bills secondary to go with strong special teams play. Neal also has the ability to fill in at several positions if injuries or schemes dictate as such.

Ready for Sunday
Neal was not listed on the Bills injury report Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Neal exited Sunday's game against Dallas after suffering a head injury, and while the extent of the injury was unclear at the time, the 26-year-old is not listed as injured. So long as he remains healthy, Neal is expected to suit up for Saturday's game.

Leaves with head injury
Neal exited Sunday's game against the Dolphins to be evaluated for a head injury.
ANALYSIS
Neal had three total tackles and one pass breakup before exiting during the second half. The Bills are winning in blowout fashion midway through the fourth quarter, so the 26-year-old could be held out regardless of the results of the evaluation.

Quick COVID turnaround
Neal was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Neal just went on the list last Thursday at the opening of camp, so it appears he either didn't have too many problems with the virus or was asymptomatic. He'll now begin trying to land a spot as a reserve defensive back, while it's worth noting there's one less person in front of him after E.J. Gaines opted out of the season this week.

Sent to COVID-19 list
Neal is one of five Bills that have been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, Sal Maiorana of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
That means Neal has either tested positive for the virus or been in close contact with someone that's been infected. The reserve defensive back has plenty of time to recover and stake his claim for a roster spot, but for now he's one of several that will be kept away from training camp happenings.
