Stint with Philly over
The Eagles removed Castro-Fields (hamstring) from their injured reserve list with an injury settlement Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
It looked like Castro-Fields was going to have to spend the entire 2025 season on Philadelphia's injured reserve list with a hamstring issue, but now he's on track to become a free agent. He'll be free to sign with and play with another team this year once he's back to 100 percent.

Heads to IR
Castro-Fields (hamstring) cleared waivers Wednesday and reverted to injured reserve, per the NFL's official media site.
ANALYSIS
Castro-Fields appeared to pick up this injury during the second preseason game. The 2022 sixth-round pick out of Penn State has played just 12 regular-season games since entering the league, posting four tackles (three solo). He'll remain on injured reserve the rest of the season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team.

Not Practicing
Castro-Fields (hamstring) did not practice Monday, Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Castro-Fields was one of five Eagles not practicing Monday, following Saturday's preseason loss to Cleveland. The 2022 sixth-round pick has tallied one tackle and two pass deflections in the preseason so far as he is trying to crack the 53-man roster in a cornerback room led by Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. He appeared in two regular-season games for Carolina last season before being released in October, and any further missed time in training camp could damage his chances to make the team.

Working at OTAs
Castro-Fields (shoulder) is participating at the Commanders' organized team activities, Stephen Whyno of the AP News reports.
ANALYSIS
Castro-Fields landed on Washington's injured reserve prior to Week 18 last season with a shoulder injury. He suited up for eight games in 2023, but was primarily only used on special teams. He finished the year with four tackles (three solo). He is competing for a depth role in the Commanders' secondary in the upcoming season.

Season over
Castro-Fields (shoulder) placed on the Commanders' injured reserve Friday, Zach Shelby of the team's official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Castro-Fields placement on IR means his season is over. He will now set his sights on returning healthy for the 2024 campaign. His absence for Sunday's season finale is not expected to have an impact on Washington's defense

Missing season finale
Castro-Fields (shoulder) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Cowboys, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Castro-Fields drew the first start of his young career in Week 17, but he sustained a shoulder injury that's held him out of practice all week, so it's no surprise that he won't suit up Sunday. The Commanders' secondary will be extremely thin in Week 18, as Castro-Fields is just one of three cornerbacks to already be ruled out.

Won't return Sunday
Castro-Fields (shoulder) is out for the rest of Sunday's game versus the 49ers, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Castro-Fields left during the first half of Sunday's contest with a shoulder injury that was apparently serious enough to keep him out for the rest of the day. With both Kendall Fuller (knee) and Benjamin St-Juste (concussion) also out, 2022 seventh-rounder Christian Holmes will continue to see an expanded role versus San Francisco.

Exits with shoulder injury Week 17
Castro-Fields left Sunday's game against the 49ers with a shoulder injury and is questionable to return, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Castro-Fields was hurt in the first half and has since been deemed questionable to return. The second-year pro made his first start of the season Sunday -- prior to the game, he had played exclusively on special teams. Both Kendall Fuller (knee) and Benjamin St-Juste (concussion) are inactive Sunday, so Christian Holmes has entered in Castro-Fields' stead.

Returns from injury
Castro-Fields (knee) was taking part in team drills during Tuesday's OTAs, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, the second-year defensive back's knee is healthy after suffering an injury that held him out from from late October to the end of the 2022 NFL season. After recovering from this injury, Castro-Fields will continue to fight for a depth spot on Washington's 53-man roster after not recording a single stat last season in two appearances.

Designated to return from IR
Castro-Fields (knee) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The Commanders will now have an opportunity to activate Castro-Fields before the end of the regular season and he could potentially be available if they advance to the postseason. The cornerback has been out since late October with a knee injury, but his return wouldn't carry much of an impact on Washington's defensive game plan.

Placed on IR
Castro-Fields was placed on injured reserve Friday.
ANALYSIS
Castro-Fields will now miss at least four weeks while he nurses a knee injury. The severity of the injury is unknown, making it hard to project his timeline to return to the field. In his absence, Christian Holmes could see a slight uptick in usage.

Final pick of Round 6
The 49ers selected Castro-Fields in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 221st overall.
ANALYSIS
Castro-Fields has prototypical size and speed, as he measured in at 6-foot-1, 197 pounds with a 4.38 40-yard dash and 37-inch vertical. A four-year starter at Penn State, Castro-Fields was comfortable playing press corner on the outside but struggled with his consistency. He embraces physicality and could carve out a special-teams role as he sharpens his cornerback play to fit the next level.
