Trent Taylor Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Panthers vs 49ers game on Monday with our National Football League injury report.Jun 3, 2025
Lands on IR
The 49ers placed Taylor (undisclosed) on injured reserve Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor signed a reserve/future contract with San Francisco in early January, but the move to IR means he'll likely be out for the entire 2025 campaign. It's not clear what type of injury the receiver is dealing with, though he wasn't expected to be a major part of the team's wideout corps this season. Taylor spent most of last year on San Francisco's practice squad and caught one pass for 11 yards across the two games he saw action in with the 49ers.

Inks reserve/future deal with SF
Taylor signed a reserve/future contract with San Francisco on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor is very familiar with the 49ers after being selected by the organization in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent the first three years of his career with San Francisco before logging two seasons with Cincinnati and one with Chicago, and he rejoined the 49ers on a one-year contract last April. Taylor ended up spending most of the 2024 campaign on the team's practice squad but did get elevated for two contests, recording one catch for 11 yards over 14 offensive snaps. He'll continue to serve as organizational receiver depth through the offseason and will get a chance to compete for a roster spot during training camp next summer.
Jan 4, 2025
Elevated for Week 18
The 49ers elevated Taylor from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
ANALYSIS
It's the second time Taylor has been elevated to the active roster this season, with the first taking place for Week 5 against the Cardinals. He'll give San Francisco another return option on special teams and provide depth at wide receiver for Sunday's regular-season finale against Arizona.
Oct 8, 2024
Back to practice squad
Taylor reverted to the 49ers' practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was elevated to the active roster with Jacob Cowing (shoulder) and Chris Conley (oblique) inactive for Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. However, the 30-year-old only saw two snaps on offense and was not targeted.
Oct 5, 2024
Elevated from practice squad
The 49ers elevated Taylor from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor will be elevated from the practice squad for the first time this season. He'll provide depth at wide receiver and as a kick and punt returner if Jacob Cowing (shoulder) is unable to play Sunday against the Cardinals. Taylor played in all 17 regular-season games for the Bears in 2023 and tallied 188 punt return yards.
Aug 28, 2024
Healthy again
Taylor signed with the 49ers' practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The wide receiver was waived by the team Tuesday. Taylor competed for a returner role during the preseason, but he suffered an undisclosed injury and may not have made the team anyway. He has not caught 10 balls in a season since 2020.
Aug 21, 2024
Dealing with injury
Taylor (undisclosed) worked off on the side during Wednesday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It seems that Taylor sustained an injury in recent days, as he didn't participate in team drills Wednesday. The Lousianna Tech product is battling for the team's top kick and punt returner spot, so missing time could hurt his chances of winning those jobs. Expect Ronnie Bell to assume all the first-team punt and kick return duties while Taylor nurses his injury.
Apr 16, 2024
Returns to The Bay
Taylor signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Tuesday, Lindsey Pallares of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor started his career in San Francisco before a two-year stay with the Bengals and spending the 2023 campaign with the Bears. The 29-year-old will likely have the opportunity to earn a role in the return game with the departure of Ray-Ray McCloud in free agency this offseason.
Apr 16, 2024
Could return to The Bay
Taylor has talked to the 49ers about a potential return to the team this offseason, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was selected by San Francisco in the fifth round of the 2017 Draft and spent three seasons there before stops in Cincinnati and Chicago. The 49ers do currently have a void in their return game, with Ray-Ray McCloud now in Atlanta, which is likely where the interest in Taylor lies.
Jan 8, 2024
Heads toward free agency
Taylor played 24 percent of the snaps but wasn't targeted in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Packers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
In his first year with Chicago and sixth season as a pro, Taylor's main value was as a punt returner. The veteran played fewer than 10 percent of the offensive snaps in more than half of his games, and his only touch of the season was a rushing attempt that resulted in a two-yard loss. He was also targeted once this season. Taylor is now an unrestricted free agent.
Dec 13, 2023
No targets in Week 14
Taylor went without a target while playing 10 of 71 snaps on offense and returned four punts for 56 yards in Sunday's 28-13 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has yet to record a reception through 13 appearances on the season and has just two targets to his name over 71 snaps on offense. He looks like he'll continue to provide most of his value to the Bears on special teams through his role as the team's punt returner.
Oct 15, 2023
First target of season
Taylor failed to catch his lone target in the Bears' 19-13 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor sees most of his playing time on special teams, and it doesn't seem likely that he'll move into a prominent role in the offense in the near future.
Aug 30, 2023
Signing with Chicago
Taylor is signing with the Bears on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was released by the Bengals on Tuesday, but he landed a spot on Chicago's active roster a day later. The 2017 fifth-rounder saw most of his production as a return man last year, racking up 340 yards on punt returns. Velus Jones was absent for an undisclosed reason late in training camp and the preseason, and Taylor would be a candidate to take on return duties if Jones misses time during the regular season.
Aug 29, 2023
Cut by Bengals
Cincinnati is slated to release Taylor on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was effective for the Bengals last season, when he recorded a career-high 340 punt return yards across 16 appearances. His release is somewhat surprising, and may speak to what the team saw from Charlie Jones and/or Kwamie Lassiter during the preseason.
Mar 16, 2023
Staying in Cincy
Taylor re-signed with the Bengals on a one-year contract in March of 2023, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was one of the league's most effective punt returners in 2022, ranking fourth in punt return yards with 340. His role as a receiver in Cincinnati's high-powered offense has been minimal, though, as Taylor has only eight catches in two seasons with the Bengals.
Jan 12, 2023
Plays exclusively on special teams
Taylor played all three of his snaps on special teams in Sunday's 27-16 win over the Ravens and took back two punts for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
Since drawing a season-high four targets while playing 77 percent of the Bengals' snaps on offense Week 14 against the Browns, Taylor's role on offense has evaporated while Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd have returned to full health. Taylor played just two snaps on offense over the Bengals' last three regular season games and finished the campaign with six catches for 62 yards on 10 targets. He'll likely be limited exclusively to a special-teams role during the Bengals' upcoming postseason run.
Dec 22, 2022
Set to play Saturday
Taylor (hamstring) does not carry a game status on the Bengals' final Week 16 injury report.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has been limited during practice while dealing with a hamstring injury the past two weeks. While he was listed as questionable last week, the 28-year-old was still able to suit up for Sunday's win over the Buccaneers. With no injury designation this time around, expect Taylor to continue seeing the majority of his work on special teams now Cincinnati's wide receiver corps is back to full health.
Dec 20, 2022
Limited on Tuesday's estimate
Taylor (hamstring) was listed as a limited participant on Tuesday's practice estimate, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor entered last weekend's matchup against Tampa Bay with a questionable tag due to a hamstring issue, but he was ultimately able to suit up. He's now opened Week 16 prep as a limited participant during Tuesday's walk-through session, though it would be surprising if Saturday's contest versus New England accounted for the 28-year-old's first missed game of the 2022-23 campaign given that he's already played through hamstring concerns this season.
Dec 18, 2022
Will be available at Tampa Bay
Taylor (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game at the Buccaneers, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After being limited during practice this week, Taylor appears poised to suit up for Week 15. The 28-year-old wideout has caught six passes for 62 yards on 10 targets through 13 games in 2022.
Dec 16, 2022
Listed as questionable
Taylor (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against Tampa Bay, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was limited by a hamstring injury throughout Week 15 prep, but he'll still have a chance to suit up Sunday. Fellow wideouts Tyler Boyd (finger) and Tee Higgins (hamstring) are also listed as questionable, but they both submitted full practices Friday after being limited Wednesday and Thursday, which suggests they have a better chance than Taylor to play against the Buccaneers.
Dec 14, 2022
Limited in practice
Taylor (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Andrew Gillis of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear when Taylor suffered the injury, but either way it's led to him being unable to be a full participant in practice. Typically this may not be a significant issue, but with Tee Higgins (hamstring) and Tyler Boyd (finger) both ailing, Taylor's status takes on greater meaning as well. The 28-year-old played a season-high 47 snaps on offense Sunday, and if he's able to play Week 15 against the Buccaneers, he could be inline for a similar workload depending on the status of Boyd and Higgins.
Dec 11, 2022
One big catch
Taylor had one catch for 34 yards in the Bengals' win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Taylor had that big catch just after he had another potential catch ruled out of bounds and confirmed upon review. The Bengals will need Taylor to play more offensive snaps again next week against the Bucs should Tyler Boyd (finger) and Tee Higgins (hamstring) miss the game.
Nov 8, 2022
Tallies 99 all-purpose yards
Taylor had his busiest day of the year Sunday, tallying 99 all-purpose yards. He had two catches for 14 yards, three carries for 18 yards, 52 yards in punt returns and 15 more yards on a kick return.
ANALYSIS
With the Bengals up 42-7 in the third quarter, most of their starters were rested, and Taylor got more work. He played 26 offensive snaps, twice as many as he had in any single game earlier this season. With Ja'Marr Chase expected to be out at least one more game after the bye, Taylor will be the Bengals' third receiver more often than Mike Thomas.
Nov 2, 2022
Records first catch of season
Taylor recorded a five-yard reception in Monday's 32-13 loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old has made his biggest impact for the Bengals this season as a punt returner, but he moved up a spot on the team's depth chart at receiver Week 8 while Ja'Marr Chase (hip) was sidelined. Taylor was still limited to playing seven snaps on offense, with his 14 percent share trailing all of Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd and Mike Thomas. Even if Taylor remains the Bengals' No. 4 wideout this Sunday against the Panthers with Chase sidelined and Stanley Morgan (hamstring) at risk of missing another game, he won't be a high-priority target for quarterback Joe Burrow.
Sep 16, 2022
Good to go
Taylor (hamstring) is absent from the Bengals' injury report ahead of their Week 2 game versus the Cowboys, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was sidelined at practice earlier in the week due to a hamstring issue, but it looks like the team was just erring on the side of caution. The 28-year-old played was on the field for 21 snaps in Week 1, 13 of which were on special teams. Barring any setbacks, look for him to take on a similar workload.
Sep 15, 2022
Back in limited fashion
Taylor (hamstring) was listed as a limited participant on the Bengals' injury report Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor sat out practice Wednesday while dealing with a lingering hamstring injury, so his limited participation is an encouraging sign for his availability heading into Cincinnati's game against Dallas on Sunday. The 28-year-old recorded 31 punt return yards while playing 13 of his 21 total snaps on special teams in Week 1. It's likely that Tyler Boyd would handle the Bengals' punt-return duties should Taylor ultimately be unable to suit up in Week 2.
Sep 14, 2022
Misses practice
Taylor (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was questionable heading into Week 1 with the same injury, but he managed to suit up, and filled his role as the team's punt returner. Whether he can repeat that same feat in Week 2 will remain to be seen, and Taylor is officially questionable for Sunday against the Cowboys.
Sep 11, 2022
Active for season opener
Taylor (hamstring) is active for Sunday's season opener against the Steelers, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor popped up on the injury report Thursday and was a limited participant in back-to-back practices, but he'll be good to go for the season opener. The 5-foot-8 wideout likely won't garner a major offensive workload (two receptions for 41 yards across four games last year), but he is expected to operate as the Bengals' primary punt returner.
Sep 9, 2022
Questionable for Sunday
Taylor (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's season opener against the Steelers, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor popped up on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant and was limited again Friday, leaving his status for Week 1 in doubt. The return specialist appeared in four games last year for the Bengals, catching two of three targets for 41 yards and totaled 120 return yards. If available for the season opener, Taylor likely won't garner a role on offense but is expected to operate as the team's top punt returner.
Feb 22, 2022
Signed to Cincy's offseason roster
The Bengals signed Taylor to their offseason roster Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was elevated to the active roster for each of the Bengals' final eight games, including the Super Bowl. The 2017 fifth-round pick operated primarily as the teams' punt returner, but he did catch a critical two-point reception during Cincinnati's comeback in the AFC Championship Game. He figures to have a similar role next season.
Feb 15, 2022
Reverts back to practice squad
Taylor reverted to the Bengals' practice squad Monday, per NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Taylor played eight total snaps (two offensive) and returned two punts for 28 yards during the Bengals' 23-20 loss to the Rams in the Super Bowl. The 2017 fifth-round pick was elevated for eight straight contests to end the season, including postseason, and operated primary as the team's punt returner. However, he did catch a critical two-point reception during Cincinnati's comeback in the AFC Championship Game.
Feb 12, 2022
Elevated yet again
Taylor was elevated to the Bengals' active roster Saturday.
ANALYSIS
This comes as no surprise as Sunday's final game of the season will mark Taylor's eighth straight with the Bengals' active roster. Primarily the team's punt returner, Taylor has just two receptions since Week 15 although that does not include a critical two-point reception in the AFC Championship Game.
Jan 31, 2022
Returns to practice squad
Taylor was reverted to the Bengals' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has appeared in seven straight games for the Bengals, while going back and forth between the practice squad and active roster. Although he did not see the field much in their 27-24 AFC Championship Game victory, Taylor played a key role securing a successful two-point conversion attempt that tied the game at 21 all late in the third quarter. He also chipped in two punt returns for 22 yards. Whether or not Taylor returns to the active roster for the Super Bowl against the Rams remains to be seen, but the trend suggests he should.
Jan 29, 2022
Elevated to active roster
Taylor was elevated to the Bengals' active roster from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship Game against Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Taylor will join the active roster for a seventh consecutive game, but he's played mainly on special teams across his last six appearances. He should provide additional receiving depth with Stanley Morgan (hamstring) doubtful for Sunday's matchup.
Jan 24, 2022
Goes back to practice squad
Taylor was reverted to the Bengals' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has been active for the Bengals' last six games, primarily appearing on special teams and performing return duties. He'll work to get called back to the active roster for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs.
Jan 21, 2022
Elevated for Saturday
Taylor was elevated to the Bengals' active roster from the practice squad for Saturday's playoff game against the Titans, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor is set to be active for the sixth straight game Saturday, and he's primarily served as a punt returner for Cincinnati. He also caught two passes for 41 yards in the lone game he had a role in the passing game.
Jan 17, 2022
Back to practice squad
Taylor reverted to the Bengals' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has been active for each of Cincinnati's last five games. He has served as the team's primary punt returner in that span, and he delivered two returns for 26 yards in Saturday's wild-card matchup against Las Vegas. Taylor figures to fill a similar role in Saturday's divisional-round game against Tennessee.
Jan 14, 2022
Elevated to active roster
Taylor was elevated to the Bengals' active roster Friday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was elevated for each of Cincinnati's last four games of the regular season and played mostly on special teams. However, in Week 18, he was on the field for 32 of 54 offensive snaps and caught two passes for 41 yards. Nonetheless, he's unlikely to be involved much on offense during the postseason, but he is expected to operate as the Bengals' primary return man.
Jan 10, 2022
Returns to practice squad
Taylor reverted to Cincinnati's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Taylor made his way onto the field for 32 of 54 offensive snaps in Week 18 against the Browns, finishing with two receptions for 41 yards on three targets and one punt return for 11 yards. He'll serve as depth for the Bengals if needed during the postseaon.
Jan 8, 2022
Joins active roster
Taylor was elevated to the Bengals' active roster Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor will join the active roster for a fourth consecutive week to close out the regular season. However, he's served mainly on special teams across the last three games.
Jan 3, 2022
Back to practice squad
Taylor reverted to Cincinnati's practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor played nine snaps, all on special teams. He returned one punt for three yards while signaling for a fair catch on two others.
Jan 1, 2022
Back up on roster
Taylor was elevated to the Bengals' active roster Saturday, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has been active each of the past two weeks, but he's yet to see a single target. Expect the depth wideout to once again act as the team's primary kick returner.
Dec 28, 2021
Reverts to practice squad
Taylor reverted to Cincinnati's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Taylor logged one offensive snap and seven special teams snaps. The wideout returned three kickoffs for 45 yards and two punt returns for a total of 16 yards. Taylor heads back to the practice squad to await his next opportunity on the active roster.
Dec 25, 2021
Bumped up from practice squad
Taylor was elevated to the Bengals' active roster Saturday, Marisa Contipelli of the Bengals' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor's promotion comes after fellow wideout Mike Thomas was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. The former 49er has appeared in one game for the Bengals this season in Week 15 against the Broncos. He never saw a snap on offense but did contribute on special teams. He'll likely do the same Sunday against the Ravens.
Dec 20, 2021
Back with practice squad
Taylor reverted to Cincinnati's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Taylor logged nine snaps on special teams and returned one kickoff for 23 yards. He also returned three punts for a total of 22 yards Sunday against the Broncos. Week 15 marked the first action of the 2021 campaign for the Louisiana Tech product.
Dec 18, 2021
Joins Bengals' active roster
The Bengals have elevated Taylor to their 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has spent the season on Cincinnati's practice squad after failing to make it through final roster cuts. With several healthy pass catchers ahead of him on the depth chart, any impact on Sunday will presumably come on special teams.
Aug 31, 2021
Let go by Cincy
Taylor was waived by the Bengals on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor signed with the Bengals in the spring and caught four passes for 62 yards in the preseason, but he won't make the team's initial 53-man roster. However, Cincinnati hopes to bring him back on the practice squad if he goes through waivers unclaimed.
May 17, 2021
Finds work in Cincy
Taylor agreed to a contract Monday with the Bengals, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Cincinnati presumably views Taylor as an ideal replacement for Alex Erickson, who moved on to Houston in free agency earlier in the offseason. Like Erickson, Taylor has experience returning punts and playing out of the slot, but multiple injuries have limited the latter to only 12 appearances across the past two seasons. Even if health prevails in 2021, Taylor won't have much of a path to fantasy relevance while ranking behind at least Tyler Boyd, Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Joe Mixon in the pass-catching hierarchy.
Jan 6, 2021
Back from COVID-19 list
The 49ers activated Taylor (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, per the league's official transactions report.
ANALYSIS
Taylor missed the final two games of the regular season while on the COVID list. On the year, he caught 10 of 21 targets for 86 yards in 12 appearances. The 26-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Dec 23, 2020
Placed on COVID-19 list
Taylor was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor either tested positive for the virus himself or came in close contact with somebody that did. If it turns out to be the latter, then the receiver still has a chance of being cleared in time for Saturday's game against Arizona. Taylor has just 10 catches this season but plays a prominent role on special teams as the punt returner.
Dec 22, 2020
Nets 14 yards on return
Taylor registered a 14-yard punt return while going without an offensive snap during Sunday's 41-33 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Taylor made his return to the lineup Sunday after being deemed a healthy scratch for San Francisco's Week 13 and 14 matchups. The Louisiana Tech product was held without an offensive snap for just the second time this season, though he was capable of building upon a strong 12.4 yards-per-punt return average. The 26-year-old remains on the active roster as the 49ers prepare for a Week 16 road trip to Arizona.
Dec 13, 2020
Another healthy scratch Week 14
Taylor (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 14 tilt against Washington.
ANALYSIS
The third-year slot man has now been a healthy scratch for two consecutive games, as the recent returns to health of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk have pushed Taylor back down the depth chart. The 26-year-old's next opportunity to get back in uniform comes in a Week 15 road battle versus the Cowboys.
Dec 7, 2020
Healthy scratch for MNF
Taylor (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday night's matchup against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Week 13 marks Taylor's first healthy scratch of the 2020 campaign, with River Cracraft being inserted above him as the 49ers' No. 5 WR option. With varying availability of San Francisco's top receivers from week-to-week, the 26-year-old Taylor has been sporadically involved this season. He has posted six different appearances with 20-plus offensive snaps but five others yielding six or fewer snaps.
Dec 1, 2020
Returns two punts
Taylor had two punt returns for 27 yards during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Taylor exclusively played special teams during the divisional matchup, which is the first time this season he hasn't seen the field on offense. Even River Cracraft saw a couple offensive snaps during the contest, as Taylor is clearly buried on the depth chart.
Nov 15, 2020
Active Sunday
Taylor (back) is active for Sunday's game against the Saints.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was considered questionable despite practicing with no limitations Thursday and Friday, so it's not a major surprise he's suiting up Sunday. Kendrick Bourne (undisclosed) and Brandon Aiyuk (undisclosed) are both back in action this week, so Taylor may not see significant offensive opportunities.
Nov 13, 2020
Full practice, deemed questionable
Taylor (back) is considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Taylor practiced without limitations Thursday and Friday, so he should be good to go barring a setback. The 26-year-old wideout was left out of the equation in last week's loss to the Packers when Richie James stepped up, and he could be pushed further down the depth chart with Brandon Aiyuk and Kendrick Bourne both returning to action.
Nov 12, 2020
Ready to rock
Taylor (back) was a full participant during Thursday's practice, Chris Biderman of The Sacramento Bee reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor saw his reps managed Wednesday while tending to the back injury, but as evidenced by this news, he appears on track for Sunday's game against the Saints. With Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and River Cracraft (quadriceps) also dealing with injuries, Taylor could be in line for some extra work Sunday. Last week he saw a season-high 58 percent of offensive snaps, so he could see similar snap count in Week 10.
Nov 11, 2020
Bothered by back injury
Taylor (back) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor's back injury is the latest addition to the long list of injuries to San Francisco's wide receivers. He may have picked up this injury during last week's loss to the Packers, but he's trending in the wrong direction to start the week nonetheless. His practice capacity Thursday will be critical for his Week 10 status. Brandon Aiyuk and Richie James were the 49ers' only fully healthy receivers Wednesday, but Kendrick Bourne (COVID-19 list) should be available for this Sunday's matchup against the Saints.
Nov 6, 2020
Fails to seize opportunity
Taylor was held to one reception (four targets) for nine yards in Thursday's 34-17 loss to Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
Kendrick Bourne and Brandon Aiyuk were held out of action due to potential exposure to COVID-19, so the 49ers were running thin at the wide receiver position. Taylor remained in the slot (58 percent of offensive snaps) and did not absorb any of the targets left behind by the two sidelined starters. Richie James (nine receptions for 184 yards and a touchdown) was the receiver to step it up, which could put Taylor's slot role in jeopardy going forward in the likely event both Aiyuk and Bourne are ready to go against the Saints following 10 off days.
Nov 2, 2020
32 yards in losing effort
Taylor had three receptions (four targets) for 32 yards in Sunday's 37-27 loss to Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was promoted from special teams contributor to the 49ers' starting slot receiver following last week's injury to Deebo Samuel (hamstring). The 26-year-old was able to set new season highs in receptions and yardage while seeing the field for 50 percent of the team's offensive snaps. Samuel is expected to miss Thursday's contest against the Packers, allowing Taylor to remain involved in the offensive gameplan for at least another week. The potential season-ending loss of George Kittle (knee) could also lead to more opportunities on short to intermediate routes for the shifty wideout. For now, Taylor should only be considered an option in deep PPR formats.
Oct 26, 2020
Should resume slot duties Week 8
Taylor -- who logged just three offensive snaps and received no targets Sunday -- should resume his role as the team's primary slot receiver for however long Deebo Samuel (hamstring) remains sidelined.
ANALYSIS
Samuel suffered another lower-body injury in Sunday's 33-6 thrashing of the Patriots, and coach Kyle Shanahan said his starting wideout will "miss some time," Chris Biderman of The Sacramento Bee reports. Taylor has been relegated to special teams duties ever since Samuel returned from his first stint on IR, but the traditional slot man should resume his previous role for however long his teammate is forced to sit out. Jimmy Garoppolo has looked healthy and productive over his last two games, so Taylor could pop up in deeper PPR formats with an expanded role.
Oct 19, 2020
Just eight yards in win
Taylor had one catch (two targets) for eight yards in Sunday's 24-16 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Taylor continues to sit at fourth on the receiver depth chart ever since Deebo Samuel returned from injury. It is hard to blame the veteran slot man for poor production when he sees just six snaps on offense. In his current role, there is nothing to reap from a fantasy perspective heading into a matchup against the Patriots on Sunday.
Oct 13, 2020
Exciting punt return in defeat
Taylor collected 17 yards on his lone punt-return opportunity, but he did not garner any targets during Sunday's 43-17 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
The Louisiana Tech standout failed to register a target for the first time this season, as Deebo Samuel (eight), Brandon Aiyuk (six) and Kendrick Bourne (four) were the only San Francisco receivers to have a pass thrown their way against Miami. Taylor's season-high in receiving is 20 yards, as the 49ers head into a Week 6 matchup against the Rams' second-ranked pass defense.
Oct 8, 2020
Back on practice field
Taylor (ankle) was a full participant during Thursday's practice, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor had a bit of an injury scare Wednesday, as he popped up on the injury report with the ankle issue. As evidenced by this news, the Louisiana Tech product appears healthy for Week 5. Expect Taylor to assume his usual depth role at receiver, as well as being deployed as the team's punt return man.

Picks up injury
Taylor (ankle) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear when Taylor suffered the injury, but he was unable to haul in his only target during Sunday's loss to Philadelphia. Expect Taylor's practice status throughout the week to be a better indication of his chances to suit up in Week 5. With Dante Pettis (knee) also dealing with injury, it's unclear how the receiver depth chart will look for Week 5 at this point in the week.

Blanked in catch department
Taylor did not haul in his lone target during Sunday night's 25-20 loss to Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
While George Kittle and Jerick McKinnon soaked up 56.1 percent of the target share, receivers Kendrick Bourne (six targets), Brandon Aiyuk (five targets) and Deebo Samuel (three targets) claimed much of the remaining passing-game work against the Eagles. Even with a myriad of injuries to the WR position in the early going of 2020, Taylor has only attracted five total targets the past three games. He was granted somewhat of an opportunity in the season opener against Arizona with five targets, but since that point, his offensive involvement has largely gone by the wayside.

20 yards on lone touch
Taylor caught his only target for 20 yards in Sunday's 36-9 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Taylor got the start at the slot receiver position for the third week in a row, but he was held to two receptions or less over that same span. Despite being up big for the majority of the contest, the 49ers still threw the ball 36 times, so volume wasn't the issue either. It simply appears that Taylor isn't very high in the pecking order for targets from either of San Francisco's signal callers so far this season. The slot man will face another soft defensive matchup in Philadelphia on Sunday Night Football, but it would be tough to recommend Taylor based on the recent lack of production, especially if this ends up being the week Deebo Samuel (foot) is activated off of IR.

Musters up 10 yards
Taylor caught two of three targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 31-13 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Taylor had an intriguing outlook with George Kittle (knee) sidelined in Week 2, but he made little impact and logged just 46 percent of offensive snaps. With Mohamed Sanu on board and Deebo Samuel (foot) potentially returning soon, Taylor's snap share could dry up quickly if he doesn't make an impact in Week 3 versus the Giants.

Catches two of five targets
Taylor had two receptions (five targets) for seven yards in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Taylor clearly didn't have great chemistry with Jimmy Garoppolo after missing most of the past two seasons due to injury. The five targets tied four other receivers for the team lead, so it is apparent that the 26-year-old is considered the primary slot receiver out of the gates. Despite occupying a significant role, Taylor won't have much fantasy value heading into a matchup with the Jets on a team that utilizes its tight ends and running backs heavily in the passing game.

Should see steady slot snaps Week 1
Taylor is expected to receive extended reps out of the slot in Sunday's season opener versus the Cardinals, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
San Francisco will take a banged-up receiving corps into Week 1, as four players are on injured reserve -- including top option Deebo Samuel (foot) -- while rookie first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring) is questionable for the contest and is expected to have a limited role if he does suit up. That should pave the way for Taylor to have a regular spot in three-wideout sets, potentially making the 26-year-old a decent DFS punt play in a game that has one of the highest projected over/unders of Week 1.

Steers clear of PUP list
Taylor (foot) went through physicals on Saturday and was not placed on the PUP list, indicating that he is healthy heading into training camp, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor missed the entire 2019 season due to multiple procedures on his ailing foot. With a clean bill of health, the 26-year-old will compete for the 49ers' slot receiver job with several other options including, but not limited to, Brandon Aiyuk, Jalen Hurd and Richie James during training camp.

Running routes for for Garoppolo
Taylor (foot) has been running routes and catching passes from Jimmy Garoppolo during recent workouts, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old missed all of 2019 due to a foot injury but he appears fully recovered after undergoing numerous surgeries to address the issue. His quiet 2018 season (26 catches, 215 yards and one touchdown) and the injury brings question to his roster security as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. The 49ers have indicated he's still a part of the team's plans, but he'll likely be competing with Jalen Hurd, Dante Pettis, Richie James and Travis Benjamin.

Still part of team's plans
The 49ers still expect "big things" from Taylor (foot), according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.
ANALYSIS
The 2017 fifth-round pick showed promise as a slot specialist his rookie season, but he slipped to 5.2 YPT on 41 targets in 2018 and then missed all of 2019 with a foot injury. He reportedly had five procedures on the impacted foot, with the final one occurring Jan. 2. While the 49ers may still have high hopes for the soon-to-be 26-year-old, he's entering the final season of his rookie contract facing tough competition for playing time. Kendrick Bourne did solid work in the slot last season, and Dante Pettis and Richie James could also compete for those snaps. Additionally, Deebo Samuel and first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk both appear more than capable of playing inside. Taylor likely will need to fight for his roster spot once he's healthy.

Still in walking boot
Taylor (foot) is still wearing a walking boot Wednesday and does not have an official timetable for his return, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has undergone five procedures to address the foot injury that caused him to spend the 2019 season on injured reserve, but he expects to shed his walking boot soon. While an official timetable for the 25-year-old's return has yet to be revealed, there's reason for optimism that Taylor could be healthy in time to participate in OTAs. He stands to compete for a depth role in San Francisco's receiver corps for the 2020 season.

Should be ready for OTAs
Taylor underwent surgery on his foot Jan. 2 but is expected to participate in OTAs this offseason, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
It was the fifth and final surgery for Taylor's foot injury, for which he originally went under the knife last offseason. The 25-year-old spent the 2019 campaign on injured reserve and will likely enter training camp for 2020 as a depth wideout.
