Dodson was set to be a restricted free agent and will be back with the Bills for 2023 after playing 21 percent of the defensive snaps last season while starring on special teams.

Dodson logged 13 tackles (nine solo) during Sunday's 31-23 win over the Browns.

Dodson recorded a new career high in tackles while starting in place of injured middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (groin) for the second game this season. The 24-year-old backup previously recorded a career-best 11-tackle outing in his Week 5 start, though he wound up playing 100 percent of the Bills' defensive snaps for the first time during this win over Cleveland. With Edmunds sidelined for each of Buffalo's first two practices Week 12, Dodson should once again see significant usage against the Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

Dodson recorded 11 tackles (seven solo) and one sack during Sunday's 38-3 victory over the Steelers.

Dodson started Sunday's contest against Pittsburgh in place of Tremaine Edmunds, who was ruled out for the game with a hamstring injury. The 24-year-old played 84 percent of Buffalo's defensive snaps and also surpassed his previous career-best tackling performance, which was seven stops in Week 5 of 2020. If Edmunds misses additional time, Dodson would again be the prime beneficiary for extra playing time. The Bills head to Kansas City in Week 6 for what should be another instant classic.

Dodson is starting in Sunday's matchup against the Steelers, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

With Tremaine Edmunds out with a hamstring injury, Dodson is officially taking over a more prominent linebacker role for Week 5. The 24-year-old has logged 26 tackles (17 solo), one sack and one pass breakup through his first four games of the 2022 campaign.

Dodson (general soreness) recorded three tackles during the Bills' preseason finale against the Panthers.

Dodson missed Buffalo's first preseason outing due to general soreness, but he looks ready to go for the team's Week 1 matchup against the Rams on Sept. 8. The veteran primarily played on special teams (275 of his 350 total snaps) for the Bills last year, but he could step up into a bigger role defensively heading into his third season with the team.

Dodson is not practicing Thursday due to muscle soreness, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.

The Bills have been giving some of their veterans some time off throughout camp with the "soreness" label, so we'll assume Dodson is likely to be ready for Week 1. However, he's not scheduled to hit the field Saturday against the Colts in Buffalo's first exhibition game.

Dodson has re-signed on a one-year contract, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

The 2022 campaign will be Dodson's third with the team. While the Texas A&M product is unlikely to see starter's time at linebacker, he's a versatile backup and an excellent special teams player. The latter will be especially needed with the Bills having quite a bit of turnover to their coaching staff this offseason, including the special teams coaches.

Dodson (undisclosed) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.

Dodson was unavailable for a week and a half due to the league's COVID-19 protocols, but he'll now be able to return to practice. Across his last five appearances, the linebacker has logged eight tackles (seven solo).

Dodson will need to produce back-to-back negative tests at least 24 hours apart or complete a 10-day quarantine before he is allowed to return to team facilities. With Dodson and A.J. Klein both potentially out Sunday due to COVID-19 protocols, Tyler Matakevich may be in line for an increased workload against the Panthers.

The Bills are much healthier at linebacker compared to earlier this season, when Dodson had to be used in a pinch as a starter because several regulars were out. If he suits up Sunday night against the Steelers, he'll be used in a depth and special teams role. Dodson has not seen the field since Week 6 against the Chiefs.

The Bills have a major mess at linebacker for Week 2, with their top two starters out in Matt Milano (hamstring) and Tremaine Edmunds (shoulder), while depth LB Del'Shawn Phillips (quad) has been ruled out as well. Dodson will take over Edmunds' middle linebacker spot, and while he may not see the field on every defensive snap as Edmunds' typically does, don't be surprised if Dodson is one of the team's tackle leaders against Miami.
