Expected to join Commanders
Miller and the Commanders are finalizing terms of a one-year contract Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was released by the Bills in March but made clear that he wanted to continue his playing career. A short-term deal makes sense given that he's entering his age-36 season, as does the fact that he's joining a team that has a realistic chance of reaching the postseason. The Commanders had a relative weakness at edge and pass rush entering training camp, so Miller should be a significant lift to the unit after logging six sacks across 13 games in 2024.
Mar 9, 2025
Set to be released
The Bills are releasing Miller, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After finishing 2023 with no sacks in 12 regular-season games, Miller enjoyed a bit of a bounce-back in 2024, recording 6.0 sacks over 13 regular-season contests. However, Buffalo is electing to cut ties -- at least temporarily -- with the veteran pass rusher in order to free up $8.4 million against the salary cap. That said, Rapoport notes that the Bills and Miller are both open to a reunion, so it's not yet certain that the soon-to-be 36-year-old will be with a new team next season.

Bounces back with 6.0 sacks in 2024
Miller recorded 17 tackles (13 solo), including 6.0 sacks, over 13 regular-season games in 2024.
ANALYSIS
Miller's playing time (13 regular-season contests, 268 defensive snaps) was nearly equal to what he logged in 2023 (12 games, 239 snaps). However, his output was significantly better -- after finishing without a sack last season, the veteran pass rusher tied for second on Buffalo in that category with 6.0 sacks this year. He did miss four games in October due to a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy, but Miller was mostly healthy and typically logged around one-third of the Bills' defensive snaps. Miller has three seasons remaining on the six-year deal he signed with Buffalo in 2022, and per Tyler Dunne of Bleacher Report, the eight-time Pro Bowler intends to play at least one more season, but it's not a guarantee the Bills will bring him back, as they can save over $17.4 million in cap space by cutting him after June 1.
Nov 2, 2024
Should be active Sunday
Coach Sean McDermott said Friday that Miller will play against the Dolphins on Sunday following his four-game suspension, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was reinstated from his suspension Monday, and now the team has confirmed the pass rusher will get right back into the mix. Miller typically doesn't play more than half the defensive snaps given his age and role in the defense, but he does have 3.0 sacks in four games this season.
Oct 28, 2024
Reinstated from suspension
Miller's four-game suspension has concluded and he will rejoin the Bills this week, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was suspended for four games Oct. 1 for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, but he's since served his time and is now eligible to return to the team. Expect Miller to contribute as one of Buffalo's top rotational edge rushers as the Bills host the Dolphins in Week 9.

Receives four-game suspension
Miller was suspended for four games Tuesday for violating the league's personal conduct policy, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Details as to the reason for Miller's suspension have not been released yet, but he'll be ineligible to return until the Bills' Week 9 game against the Dolphins on Nov. 3.
Sep 24, 2024
Keeps sack streak going Monday
Miller logged 1.0 sacks in Monday's 47-10 win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Miller extended his streak of registering 1.0 sacks to three games Monday, as he got to Trevor Lawrence for a 10-yard sack early in the fourth quarter. Miller has been effective as a rotational defensive end this season behind starters A.J. Epenesa and Greg Rousseau. Miller will look to extend his sack streak to four games against the elusive Lamar Jackson in Week 4.
Sep 15, 2024
Fountain of youth?
Miller posted two tackles, including a sack, in Thursday's 31-10 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
That's sacks in two straight games for Miller, who didn't have a single one over 12 regular-season games in 2023. He looks to have finally fought back to a semblance of his normal self following significant knee injuries. At 35 years of age, Miller won't be an elite IDP option, especially while he's playing 50 percent or less of the defensive snaps, but if sacks come at a premium in your IDP format we could see him getting 8-10 before campaign's end. The strength of the Buffalo defense lies in its line, and it's likely the team keeps trying to pressure the opponent as it works its way through significant injuries to the other defensive units.

Healthy during camp
Miller feels healthy in camp coming off surgery to his right knee, Maddy Glab and Dorian Alerte of the Bills' official site report. "I'm feeling good," Miller said this week. "I haven't felt like this in two years... I'm feeling normal. I'm not thinking about my knee. I'm just getting back into things. Getting back in the hang of just playing football. And it feels good. It's just being meetings and not doing rehab all day and watch film to get reps with the guys and be out there. And, it's not all about m
ANALYSIS
Miller has 123.5 regular-season sacks in his career, but the fact that he had zero over 14 regular and postseason games last season shows that he's well past his prime at 35 years old. While he probably will be of little help in IDP leagues at this stage of his Hall of Fame career, a healthy Miller and Matt Milano (leg) could make a strong Bills defense even better.
Jun 5, 2024
Healthy ahead of 2024 campaign
Miller has been participating in OTAs without a knee brace, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. "That's something I could not do last year," Miller said following Tuesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Miller, now 35, hasn't played more than 12 regular-season games since 2019, as he's battled serious knee/ankel issues, among other things, in the final chapters of his Hall of Fame career. While Miller's days of double-digit sack totals are likely gone, he still has the ability to provide a major boost to Buffalo's pass rush, even with limited action.
Mar 6, 2024
Renegotiates contract with Buffalo
Miller and the Bills agreed to a reworked contract for the 2024 season, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller's 2024 base salary will fall from $17.1 million to $8.86 million while his possible incentives will increase from $17.5 million to $20 million this coming season. The move also saves Buffalo about $8.65 million in 2024 salary cap space, as the veteran pass rusher's new deal includes a $7 million signing bonus, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. Miller compiled the least productive campaign of his career by far with just three tackles and no sacks during the 2023 regular season,. He'll enter his age-35 season in 2024.
Jan 4, 2024
Practices Thursday
Miller was a full participant in practice Thursday after taking a veterans' rest day Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The seven-time All-Pro appears available to play Sunday against the Dolphins after being a healthy scratch in Week 17. Miller has just three tackles on 225 defensive snaps in 11 games this season.
Dec 31, 2023
Not playing Sunday
Miller (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Patriots,
ANALYSIS
Miller's inclusion on the inactive list comes as a bit of a surprise, although the veteran hasn't been productive on the stat sheet thus far. The 34-year-old has just three combined tackles and no sacks in 11 games and 225 defensive snaps played this season.
Dec 6, 2023
Not being placed on exempt list
Bills GM Brandon Beane said Wednesday that he doesn't expect Miller to be placed on the commissioner's exempt list following a recent felony domestic violence charger, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller thus figures to be available for Sunday's game against Kansas City, likely handling his usual role playing about 20 snaps off the bench. He might still be placed on the exempt list at some point, while a formal suspension probably wouldn't occur until well after the season.
Nov 30, 2023
Arrest warrant issued
An arrest warrant has been issued in Dallas for Miller stemming from an alleged assault, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, a preliminary investigation following a Wednesday disturbance call indicates that Miller and a woman got into a verbal argument and that he allegedly assaulted her. The Bills subsequently released a statement Thursday, which read "this morning, we were made aware of an incident involving Von Miller. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this point."
Oct 24, 2023
Tiny role in Week 7 upset loss
Miller played just six defensive snaps and didn't record a tackle in Sunday's 29-25 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
The coaches keep saying he's on a "pitch count" and are just managing his reps, but when a star player is getting just six snaps in a tightly contested game, that should tell you Miller is still far away from where he was pre-knee injury, when he had 8.0 sacks in 11 games this season. We should see his involvement pick up as the season wears on, but Buffalo runs a nasty defensive that relies on heavy rotation, and even a healthier Miller -- at age 34 and coming off a major injury -- isn't as likely to record a sack as players like Greg Rousseau, Leonard Floyd, Ed Oliver and A.J. Epenesa.
Oct 8, 2023
Cleared for 2023 debut
Miller (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Jaguars in London.
ANALYSIS
The star edge rusher is making his 2023 debut after completing his recovery from the torn ACL that he suffered in late November. Upon being cleared to practice this week, Miller was a limited participant in sessions Wednesday through Friday, but his activity was enough for the Bills to give him the green light to play. Though fellow defensive ends Greg Rousseau (foot) and Shaq Lawson (toe) are sidelined Sunday, Miller is still expected to be eased back in with a limited snap count Week 5, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Oct 8, 2023
Expected to play on pitch count
Miller (knee) is expected to suit up for Sunday's matchup against the Jaguars but operate on a snap count, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller, who came off the reserve/PUP list Saturday and is officially listed as questionable for Week 5, is expected to make his season debut in London on Sunday. His status will be made official roughly 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff. Even if the 34-year-old is only able to suit up for third downs and obvious pass-rush plays, as Rapoport reports, he could be an impact player for Buffalo.
Oct 7, 2023
Questionable, off PUP list however
Miller (knee) was activated off the PUP list Saturday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
The Bills haven't officially cleared Miller's injury status, but it would be surprising to see the team activate the veteran and yet not have him play. With Shaq Lawson (toe) a late addition to the injury report, Miller could wind up seeing a few more pass-rush snaps than initially expected. The 34-year-old has not played since tearing his ACL in Week 12 of last season.
Oct 6, 2023
Questionable but still on PUP list
Miller (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars in London.
ANALYSIS
Miller remains on the PUP list, but he traveled with the team to London and logged a trio of limited practices. In order to play Sunday, Miller will first have to be activated from the PUP list, but Buffalo's 21-day window to place Miller back on the active roster was opened Wednesday. If Miller suits up, it will be his first appearance since the 34-year-old pass rusher tore his ACL in Week 12 of last season. Per Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News, Miller said he's 94.5 percent sure that he'll play Sunday.
Oct 5, 2023
Making the trip to London
Miller (knee) will travel with the Bills to London ahead of Sunday's Week 5 game against the Jaguars, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller remains on the reserve/PUP list, but he returned to practice this week, and his two limited sessions thus far "gave him no issues," according to Rapoport. It gives Miller a shot to play Sunday. He's yet to officially be activated from reserve/PUP.
Oct 4, 2023
Returns to practice
Miller (knee) will practice Wednesday, according to head coach Sean McDermott, suggesting he has been designated to return from the active/PUP list.
ANALYSIS
Miller will now have a 21-day window to practice with the team before officially joining the active roster. The 34-year-old stated Tuesday on his podcast that there was a 90 percent chance he'd be playing Sunday against the Jaguars, although McDermott has stated the team will take it one day at a time. Considering Miller has not played since last November when he suffered a torn Achilles on Thanksgiving, he's likely more questionable than probable for the team's game against Jacksonville in London.
Oct 3, 2023
Expected to play Sunday
Miller (knee) is expected to make his season debut against the Jaguars on Sunday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller tore his ACL last November and hasn't played since but is trending towards making his return to the field Sunday. The 2011 first-round pick logged 21 tackles (18 solo) including eight sacks in 11 games last year and will look to help bolster a Buffalo defense that has already looked impressive through four games. If Miller ends up being good to go, the team will first have to activate him from the PUP list in order for him to be eligible to play.
Oct 2, 2023
Set to practice this week
Bills head coach Sean McDermott confirmed Monday that Miller (knee) will resume practicing this week, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Buffalo will hold its first official Week 5 practice Wednesday, when Miller will likely be designated for return from injured reserve. The transaction will open up a 21-day window wherein Miller will be evaluated for a return to the 53-man roster, and depending on how he fares in practice this week, he could be activated ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars. In his first season with Buffalo in 2022, the veteran edge rusher accrued 21 tackles, eight sacks and a forced fumble in 11 games before tearing the ACL in his right knee in a Thanksgiving Day win over the Lions.
Sep 30, 2023
Set to practice Monday
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Miller (knee) is expected to return to practice starting Monday.
ANALYSIS
Miller opened the 2023 season on the reserve/PUP list which forced him to miss the first four games of the year. Schefter notes that when Miller returns to practice, the Bills will have three weeks to decide whether to activate the eight-time Pro Bowler to the active roster. Miller has been out of action since Thanksgiving Day last year when he tore his ACL. It's unclear when Miller will be back on the playing field, but his upcoming participation in practice is an encouraging step for the No. 2 pic of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Sep 6, 2023
Says knee has been cleared
Miller (knee) said Wednesday that his knee was cleared ahead of Buffalo's decision to leave him on the PUP list and that he isn't sure if he'll be back for Week 5 when he's eligible to be activated, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller also acknowledged that gaining medical clearance was just one piece of the puzzle in terms of returning to game action. The three-time All-Pro edge rusher has reportedly been recovering well from an ACL tear he sustained during a 2022 Thanksgiving game, so news he's not sure he'd be ready to go by October 2023 comes as a bit of a surprise.
Aug 29, 2023
Set to miss first four games
Miller (knee) will begin the campaign on the PUP list, which means he has to miss the first four games of the season, Sal Maiorana of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
You can bet the Bills were hoping to have their lethal pass rusher back for a tough Week 1 matchup against Aaron Rodgers and the Jets, but Miller is at the stage of his career where he must be handled with care, and the Bills will play the long game this season. He's been thought to be progressing well from a torn ACL suffered in a Thanksgiving game last season, so him being ready to go come Week 5 is not out of the question.
Jul 31, 2023
Progressing well in recovery
Miller (knee) being ready for Week 1 is "definitely a possibility" according to general manager Brandon Beane.
ANALYSIS
Miller, who is on the active/PUP list, is in a "great spot" in his recovery, but as far as being ready for the start of the season, Beane stated the team is "not quite there" in knowing for sure. Instead, the Bills will err on the side of caution to make sure he is indeed fully recovered before letting him take the field. "We're going to take it slowly with him," Beane added, "and make sure he's truly ready to get back."
Jul 25, 2023
Ends up on PUP list
Miller (knee) was placed on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller suffered a torn ACL on Thanksgiving against the Lions and was progressing well enough in his recovery that in June, he believed he'd avoid the PUP list to start camp. However, despite that not being the case, he'll be free to compete as soon as he passes a physical.
Jun 12, 2023
Expects to avoid PUP list
Miller (knee) believes that he'll avoid the Physically Unable to Perform list when training camp starts in July, Ryan O'Halloran of BuffaloNews.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller suffered a torn ACL on Thanksgiving against the Lions, but he appears to be nearing the end of his recovery as the 2023 season approaches. The linebacker said Monday that he has "good information from his doctor and his knee is all healed up". Regardless of how much he's able to participate at training camp next month, it seems likely that the 34-year-old will avoid the PUP list to open the year, allowing him to return prior to Week 6, potentially even Week 1 versus the Jets.
Jun 2, 2023
Expects to be ready for 2023
Miller (knee) expects to be ready to go for Week 1 of the 2023 campaign, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller suffered a torn ACL on Thanksgiving against the Lions and he has been going through the slow recovery process since. The 34-year-old said that he "feels great" and he feels like he'll be "ready to go for the start of the season", though he did say that if it wasn't Week 1, he'd be back by Week 6. If he is required to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list to open the year, that's where Week 6 comes into play, which would be the earliest he could return in that scenario. Over 11 contests in his first season with the Bills in 2022, Miller recorded 21 total tackles, including eight sacks, while also deflecting two passes and forcing a fumble.
Apr 23, 2023
Eye on return to action
Miller, who suffered a torn ACL in November, has been participating in voluntary workouts with his teammates this week, Grace Heidinger of the Bills' official site reports. Said the veteran, "Sitting here at month four, I feel great. I haven't started doing football stuff and rip moves and all that stuff, but I feel great, and I feel positive that I'll be ready to go early in the season for sure."
ANALYSIS
Miller's words indicate he may be no sure thing for Week 1. The Bills followed a similar path last season with Tre'Davious White, who started the season on the PUP list and didn't return until November, oddly enough it was the very game Miller suffered his own injury. Whenever he does return, Miller will certainly bolster the team's pass rush -- at 33 years of age he posted 8.0 sacks in just 11 games last season. We'll see if he shows signs during training camp of being able to return close to Week 1, though a PUP designation looms as a possibility.
Apr 18, 2023
May be able to play early in 2023
Miller (knee) said Tuesday that he feels great and is confident he'll be ready "early in the season," but he hasn't started doing any football activities yet, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller tore his right ACL in Week 12 last season, marking the second time he's suffered the injury during his NFL career. The veteran pass rusher told reporters that he's not stressing about the injury as much as he did in 2013, so it appears his previous experience is proving beneficial. Despite positive updates, Miller still has plenty of hurdles to clear before he's ready for game action, so at this point, it's safe to presume he'll miss at least the first few weeks of the 2023 regular season. However, when Miller is cleared, he figures to lead Buffalo's pass rush once again after recording eight sacks in his first 11 games as a Bill last year.
Mar 28, 2023
On road to full recovery
Coach Sean McDermott said Monday that Miller, who suffered an ACL injury in Week 12 last season, is on schedule with his recovery, Grace Heidinger of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Said McDermott, "And then you talk about the piece that he's working on, which is getting healthy to play and play well on the field. That's a whole other piece and to this point, it sounds like he's on schedule." Miller had 8.0 sacks in just 11 games last season -- not bad at all for a 33-year-old (now 34) -- so the Bills are certainly looking forward to having him back to lead the pass rush once again in what will be his second campaign with the team.
Dec 7, 2022
Out for season
Miller will be out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his ACL on Tuesday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller had already been placed on injured reserve after injuring his knee during the Week 12 win against the Lions, but there was initially hope that he could return later in the season. It's a tough loss for the playoff ambitions of the Bills as the veteran pass rusher currently leads the team with eight sacks. With Miller's season now over, the Bills will have to rely on the combination of Shaq Lawson, AJ Epenesa and Greg Rousseau to generate pressure off the edge as they look to make a Super Bowl push.
Dec 1, 2022
Placed on IR
Miller (knee) has been placed on IR by the Bills.
ANALYSIS
The move ensures that Miller will miss at least four games, though Chris Brown of the Bills' official site notes that the team hopes the star defender will be able to return at some point this season. In 11 games to date, Miller has recorded 21 tackles and eight sacks to go along with a forced fumble.
Nov 25, 2022
Dealing with meniscus tear
Miller was diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear following an MRI on Friday and is expected to have his right knee re-examined in 7-to-10 days, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was carted off the field after suffering the injury Thursday in the second quarter of the Bills' 28-25 win over the Lions. Though follow-up tests have cleared Miller of an ACL tear, the star edge rusher is still expected to require surgery at some point to address the meniscus injury. After Miller is re-examined next week, he and doctors will decide whether the injury is something he'll be able to play through moving forward while wearing a brace. If Miller hasn't healed enough to play through the meniscus tear upon being re-evaluated, he would then opt for surgery and miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign. For now, Miller looks like he can safely be ruled out for the Bills' Week 13 game against the Patriots, but he could be back as soon as Week 14 versus the Jets if his re-evaluation yields good news.
Nov 25, 2022
Out indefinitely, avoids ACL tear
Miller (knee) didn't suffer an ACL tear during Thursday's win over the Lions but is out indefinitely and requires further tests Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Miller avoided the dreaded ACL tear, he sustained other damage to his knee which could still put him in danger of missing multiple weeks or even the rest of the season. Initial reports appeared to indicate Miller suffered a knee sprain, though the results of his MRI on Friday should provide clearer information. Any missed time by the star edge rusher will be a blow to Buffalo's defense, especially as the team prepares for an upcoming slate of divisional matchups against the Patriots, Jets and Dolphins.
Nov 24, 2022
May have suffered sprain
Miller is believed to have suffered a knee sprain against the Lions on Thursday based on the initial diagnosis, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
A sprain certainly wouldn't be the worst case scenario for the star linebacker, although any missed time would be bad news for the Bills' defense. However, a more serious injury has not been ruled out, and Miller will undergo an MRI and other tests Friday to confirm it is indeed just a knee sprain.
Nov 24, 2022
Suffers knee injury Thursday
Miller won't return to Thursday's game at Detroit due to a knee injury.
ANALYSIS
Miller got twisted up on a play in the middle of the second quarter, staying on one knee on the turf for some time before walking off the field slowly. After a lengthy visit to the sideline tent, he was carted to the locker room, per Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com. Ruled out shortly thereafter, Miller likely will undergo a battery of tests to figure out the extent of the issue. The Bills already were down Greg Rousseau (ankle) and A.J. Epenesa (ankle), leaving just Carlos Basham, Shaq Lawson and Mike Love as the team's available edge rushers.
Nov 4, 2022
Full participant Friday
Miller was a full participant during Friday's practice and doesn't carry an injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Jets, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller missed practice Wednesday and Thursday due to an ankle injury, but his absences can likely be attributed to veteran rest days. Across his first seven games with Buffalo, the veteran pass rusher has totaled 14 tackles and six sacks.
Nov 3, 2022
Held out of practice Thursday
Miller did not practice Thursday due to an ankle injury, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller missed practice for the second day in a row due to an ankle issue following Buffalo's win over the Packers in Week 8. While the nature and severity of this injury are still unclear, it's possible the Bills are simply taking every precaution with the 33-year-old linebacker's health at the midway point of the season. Miller collected 14 tackles and a team-high six sacks over the team's first seven contests, and he'll have one more practice to increase his activity before this Sunday's game against the jets.
Oct 19, 2022
Two sacks in win
Miller recorded four solo tackles and two sacks during Sunday's 24-20 win.
ANALYSIS
Miller sacked Patrick Mahomes on a second-and-10 play late in the second quarter, which ultimately forced a punt. The veteran pass rusher got after Mahomes again on a third-and-six play in the fourth quarter, once again forcing a punt. Miller has totaled six sacks across six appearances, including four over his last three games.
Sep 9, 2022
Two sacks in win
Miller recorded four solo tackles and two sacks during Thursday's 31-10 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Miller, who's fresh off winning the Super Bowl with the Rams, dominated his former team with a pair of sacks. His first sack came on the Rams' opening offensive drive and his second came in the middle of the third quarter, but both put Los Angeles in a difficult third-and-long situations that ended in punts. Miller has only appeared in 15 regular-season games over the last two seasons, but when healthy, the veteran is still among the league's top pass rushers.
Aug 17, 2022
Coming back to practice
Miller returned to practice Wednesday, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller is back to work learning his new defensive scheme after sitting out a couple days for personal reasons. He'll look to achieve his eighth season recording double digit sacks after signing a massive six-year deal this offseason with the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl.
Aug 16, 2022
Out for personal reasons
Miller missed practice Tuesday for a second straight day due to personal reasons, Sal Capaccio of WGR550.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A veteran with a Hall of Fame resume probably doesn't need much extra work, so unless this lingers into the preseason there's probably little to worry about here. Still, Miller was brought in to get the team over the final hurdle based on his tremendous pass-rush ability, so we suppose the Bills will benefit if he does get back soon to continue learning his new defensive system.
Mar 16, 2022
Moves to another condenter
Miller is signing with the Bills, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports, according to a team source.
ANALYSIS
In a week of big splashes, this is a big one, as Miller still possesses elite-level pass-rushing skills, the one area the Bills have had trouble with once their annual playoff push comes around. While the likely future Hall of Famer is probably a notch below what he was in his Broncos prime, he's still capable of putting up 10-ish sacks per season and should do well joining a defense coming off a No. 1 league ranking.
Dec 21, 2021
Cleared for Tuesday's game
The Rams restored Miller from the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Miller was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list last Thursday, but according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, he was able to test out of the protocol five days later, which implies that the edge rusher was deactivated due to a positive test. Given the brevity of his absence, Miller shouldn't face any limitations Tuesday, despite his lack of practice reps leading up to the contest. Since being acquired from the Broncos in early November, Miller has appeared in four games for Los Angeles, recording 13 tackles and no sacks.
Dec 16, 2021
Lands on COVID-19 list
Miller (illness) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Miller was among a series of Rams players to land on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday. It's unclear whether he tested positive or was a close contact, though either way he could have the chance to return for Sunday's game against Seattle. Miller has not recorded a sack since being to Los Angeles, though he has been a key figure among the team's defense.
Nov 15, 2021
Debuting for Rams
Miller (ankle) is active for Monday's game at San Francisco, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was acquired from the Broncos at the start of November and was unavailable for Week 9 due to the ankle injury, but he's set to make his debut for the Rams on Monday Night Football. The 32-year-old posted 19 tackles (10 solo) and 4.5 sacks before the trade, and he should benefit from playing alongside the likes of Aaron Donald with Los Angeles.
Nov 15, 2021
Expected to debut barring setback
Miller (ankle) will make his Rams debut Monday against the 49ers barring a setback, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller has reportedly had a strong week of practice, leading to optimism around his availability. The veteran pass-rusher was acquired in a trade from Denver earlier this season. He remains listed as questionable on the injury report.
Nov 13, 2021
Questionable against 49ers
Miller (ankle) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the 49ers, Jourdan Rodrigue of the Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller failed to practice Thursday, but limited sessions Friday and Saturday suggest he has a chance to make his Rams debut in prime time Monday. The future Hall-of-Famer last suited up in Week 7, back when he was a member of the Broncos.
Nov 13, 2021
Logs limited practice
Miller (ankle) was a limited participant at Friday's practice, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This comes after Miller was a non-participant Thursday, so it looks like he is trending in the right direction. Coach Sean McVay has indicated the team is preparing as if their recently acquired linebacker will play, but they will still need to evaluate his mobility prior to the game. Saturday's practice report should offer even more clarity on his status.
Nov 11, 2021
No practice Thursday
Miller (ankle) did not practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
This was the first practice of the week for the Rams due to their matchup against the 49ers coming on Monday night. As a result, the fact that Miller did not practice is not all that concerning, though head coach Sean McVay was non-committal regarding Miller's status for the matchup, according to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. McVay did add that he is preparing as if Miller will play, but the team will have to evaluate his mobility prior to the game.
Nov 8, 2021
Week 10 status TBD
The Rams plan to take it day-by-day with Miller (ankle) ahead of their Week 10 matchup with the 49ers, Stu Jackson of the team's official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller, who was acquired by the Rams via trade last week, is waiting patiently to debut with his new team. He is still rehabbing a left ankle sprain, so his status will need to be monitored throughout the week. His ability to pass a physical during the trade process indicates the issue should not keep him out for too long.
Nov 7, 2021
Inactive against Tennessee
Miller (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Titans, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Although Miller passed a physical when he was traded from the Broncos to the Rams on Monday, he'll be forced to miss a second straight game due to a left ankle sprain. With Chris Garrett (coach's decision) also unavailable, Terrell Lewis and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo could see increased playing time.
Nov 7, 2021
Looks unlikely for Week 9
Miller (ankle), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans, appears unlikely to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Miller passed a physical upon being acquired from the Broncos on Monday, the Rams don't seem inclined to have the pass-rushing linebacker make his team debut until he's 100 percent. Miller is still scheduled to go through a pregame warmup Sunday, but if his sprained left ankle is bothering him at all, he'll likely have to wait until Week 10 in San Francisco to suit up for Los Angeles.
Nov 7, 2021
Week 9 status hinges on warmups
The Rams continue to list Miller (ankle) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans and will have him take part in pregame warmups before a decision is made on his status, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Los Angeles was confident enough in the health of Miller's sprained left ankle to acquire him from Denver on Monday, but there's still a chance that his Rams debut will have to wait another week. He was limited in practice Thursday before sitting out Friday's session entirely, prompting the Rams to label him a game-time decision heading into the weekend. Miller's situation doesn't appear to have changed much as Sunday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff approaches.
Nov 5, 2021
Game-time decision Sunday
Miller (ankle) is officially listed as questionable, but coach Sean McVay has told reporters that the linebacker is going to be a game-time decision Sunday against the Titans, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller first injured his ankle with the Broncos in Week 7. The linebacker has since been traded to the Rams and will look to make his L.A. debut Sunday against the Titans. Miller managed to practice in a limited capacity Thursday and Friday, so it's possible the linebacker is able to suit up and see limited availability in his Rams debut. Expect Chris Garrett to see snaps at outside linebacker until Miller is able to play.
Nov 4, 2021
Gets in limited practice
Miller (ankle) logged a limited practice Thursday, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was unable to practice Wednesday, so this is a move in a positive direction for the Rams' new star linebacker. Miller left the Broncos' Week 7 contest against Cleveland early before missing their Week 8 game against Washington. Miller will try to make his Rams debut in Week 9 against the Titans, but it's possible the Rams will decide to be extra cautious with their newest acquisition.
Nov 3, 2021
Misses practice Wednesday
Miller (ankle) missed the Rams' practice Wednesday, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was seen doing drills off to the side during the Rams' practice Wednesday. The linebacker didn't seem to be favoring either ankle which is a good sign. While Miller's status for Week 9 is up in the air, the recently-traded linebacker does acknowledge that he feels good about his recovery process. Expect Chris Garrett to see snaps at outside linebacker until Miller is healthy enough to make his Los Angeles debut.
Nov 1, 2021
Deal to L.A. in place
The Rams finalized their acquisition of Miller from the Broncos on Monday, picking up $9 million of the edge rusher's remaining salary for 2021 while also sending 2022 second- and third-round picks to Denver, Jeff Legwold and Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com report.
ANALYSIS
Miller will need to pass a physical before either side announces the trade, but that's apparently not a major concern, even though his sprained left ankle kept him from playing in Denver's win over Washington on Sunday. Assuming he returns to full health in the near future, Miller, who confirmed his trade to Los Angeles in a post on his personal Instagram account, should provide the Rams with another top-flight pass-rushing talent to complement standout defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Expect Miller to step in as a starter at outside linebacker opposite Leonard Floyd, with the Rams' 3-4 defensive scheme likely to be a seamless fit for the 32-year-old after he played in a similar configuration for Vic Fangio in Denver.
Nov 1, 2021
Trade to L.A. being finalized
The Broncos will reportedly trade Miller (ankle) to the Rams in exchange for a pair of 2022 draft picks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
No deal has been finalized yet, but Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports that the Broncos would receive second- and third-round 2022 draft picks in exchange for the eight-time Pro Bowler. Per Schefter, Miller is saying his goodbyes to teammates now, which would seem to indicate that a deal is nearly finalized. Miller is thus set to join forces with the likes of Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey, further bolstering the Rams' star-studded defense.
Oct 31, 2021
Won't play Sunday
Miller (ankle) is listed as inactive for Sunday's game against the Football Team.
ANALYSIS
Miller will miss his first game this season. After he suffered the injury in Week 7, Jonathon Cooper and Curtis Robinson saw the biggest increases in playing time and likely will fill in again.
Oct 31, 2021
Looks like game-time call
Miller (ankle), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Washington, may be evaluated in a pregame workout before the Broncos determine his status, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
At this stage, Miller looks to be trending toward missing his first game of the season, as he wasn't able to practice in any fashion Wednesday through Friday after spraining his left ankle in the Broncos' Week 7 loss to the Browns. If Miller is sidelined an already-depleted Denver linebacking corps would be even more shorthanded.
Oct 29, 2021
Considered questionable
Miller (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's game against Washington, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was a non-participant at practice all week, so his questionable designation seems a little optimistic. Still, the Broncos may just be erring on the side of caution with the veteran linebacker. Jonathan Cooper would likely be in line for a larger role at linebacker should he be unable to go.
Oct 28, 2021
Still out for Thursday's practice
Miller (ankle) was absent again from practice Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' team site reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though he may not practice all week, Miller feels "really good" about his chances to play this weekend if his ankle continues to heal at its current rate. The Broncos face Washington in Week 8, if he can't go Sunday, Jonathan Cooper would step into a larger role at linebacker.
Oct 27, 2021
Still not practicing Wednesday
Miller (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, George Stoia III of The Denver Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday that Miller is considered questionable heading into the Broncos' Week 8 matchup with Washington. Jonathan Cooper played a season-high 37 snaps after the All-Pro pass rusher left Week 7's loss to the Browns early due to the ankle injury, so he could possibly draw the start Sunday if Miller is inactive.
Oct 26, 2021
Considered day-to-day
Miller (ankle) didn't practice Tuesday and is considered day-to-day, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller left Thursday's loss to the Browns early due to an ankle injury and may be sidelined for Week 8. His status will likely be monitored throughout the week, but it may come down to a game-time decision Sunday. Jonathan Copper played a season-high 37 snaps during the Broncos' Week 7 loss, so he would likely draw the start if Miller is inactive against Washington.
Oct 22, 2021
Status murky
Miller (ankle) could miss some time after exiting Thursday's loss to the Browns early, Ben Swanson of the Broncos' official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller is nursing an ankle sprain. The team is currently unsure of the severity but expect to know more by early next week. Jonathan Cooper would be the likely candidate to fill in should the veteran linebacker have to miss time.
Oct 21, 2021
No structural damage
Miller did not suffer any structural damage to his ankle Thursday against the Browns, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was ruled out from the game after suffering an ankle injury late in the first half. He underwent X-rays in the locker room, which came back clean and revealed that he suffered no structural damage. The Broncos will have 10 days until their Week 8 matchup against Washington, so Miller may have the chance to return without any additional missed time.
Oct 21, 2021
Ruled out from return
Miller (ankle) will not return to Thursday's game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Miller was hobbled late in the first half and originally deemed questionable to return. However, he'll now be added to a growing list of key defensive players sidelined for the Broncos. Miller logged two tackles prior to his exit.
Oct 4, 2021
Extends sack streak to four games
Miller recorded five total tackles, including a half a sack in Sunday's 23-7 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Miller has now gotten to the quarterback in all four games to start the 2021 campaign. With 4.5 sacks to start the year, it is plausible to think that veteran can reach double digit sacks this season. Miller has a decent chance to add to his total in Week 5 when the Broncos visit the Steelers. Through four weeks, Pittsburgh has allowed Ben Roethlisberger to be sacked eight times.
Sep 29, 2021
Piling up sacks
Miller posted three tackles (one solo) and a sack in Sunday's 26-0 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Miller is stepping up with Bradley Chubb (ankle) out of the lineup, as he now has a sack in every game and four total through three weeks. The 2011 first-round pick has little fantasy utility unless he gets to the quarterback, as he produced just 46 tackles last year, but double-digit sacks are certainly in the conversation again.
Sep 21, 2021
Records one sack
Miller recorded two tackles, including one sack, during Sunday's 23-13 win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight week, Miller was the only Broncos defender to record a sack. The veteran linebacker has not done much in the way of tackles so far this season, but his three total sacks through two weeks have him tied for third in the league in that category. Miller is no stranger to disrupting things for opposing quarterbacks, so it is not surprising to see him pick up where he left off before his injury last season. The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder will have a great opportunity to add to his sack totals in Week 3, as the Broncos draw a favorable matchup against the Jets' weak offensive front.
Sep 13, 2021
Records two sacks in win
Miller recorded 3 tackles, including 2 sacks during Sunday's 27-13 victory over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
After missing the entire 2020 campaign, Miller returned to form as the only Broncos defender to sack Daniel Jones on Sunday. If this performance is any indication, the 32-year-old linebacker should be poised for a solid comeback season. Miller and the formidable Denver defense get a favorable matchup in Week 2 when the Broncos visit the Jaguars with rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence at the helm.
Aug 22, 2021
Expected to play Saturday
Miller is expected to suit up for Saturday's game against the Rams, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was held out of Denver's Week 2 preseason win over the Seahawks, but Coach Vic Fangio told reporters that the veteran will play against the Rams on Aug. 28. The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder has come a long way in his recovery from a surgery to repair a dislocated perineal tendon that caused him to miss the entire 2020 campaign. Miller will rejoin a defense that could prove to be quite formidable as the season progresses, and the 32-year-old linebacker will look return to his former level of dominance.
Aug 19, 2021
Unlikely to play Saturday
Miller is unlikely to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Seahawks, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller is nearly fully recovered after he missed the entire 2020 campaign due to a dislocated perineal tendon that required surgery. The 2011 first-rounder didn't appear in the team's preseason opener against the Vikings, and he'll delay his return to game action until the team's exhibition game against the Rams on Aug. 28. Miller is still on track in his recovery, but he sustained last year's injury during practice on turf and doesn't want to play on the turf at Lumen Field during his first game back.
Aug 11, 2021
Nearing full recovery
Miller (ankle) said he's not 100 percent healthy, but he is close, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller specifically put his recovery number at 97.5 percent, which is great news for Denver's defense ahead of the 2021 season. The 33-year-old linebacker missed all of last season with a dislocated peroneal tendon and underwent surgery for the issue last September. Miller will look to get back to his former level of dominance, but his chance of returning to live-game action may be on hold for the moment. According to Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com, coach Vic Fangio has not yet decided if the veteran will play in the Aug. 14 preseason contest against the Vikings.
May 31, 2021
Looks healthy at OTAs
Miller (ankle) looked healthy at Monday's practiced and handled a full assortment of on-field cuts and jukes, Sean Keeler of the Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller, who turned 33 in March, didn't suit up for a single game last season as the result of a dislocated peroneal tendon. The surgery he underwent Sept. 11 carried a recovery timeline of 5-to-6 months, and Miller's workload at OTAs is an indication that he's returned to full health without any setbacks. Miller is set to account for $23.2 million of the Broncos' cap space during the 2021 campaign, after which he will become a free agent.
Mar 16, 2021
Gets contract guarantee
The Broncos are exercising a $7 million guarantee on Miller's $18 million salary for 2021, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
There was talk of negotiating a lower salary for the final year of Miller's contract, but the Broncos apparently are willing to keep his deal in place now that the pass rusher isn't facing legal charges from a recent investigation by the Parker (Col.) Police Department. Miller should be ready for training camp, considering his dislocated peroneal tendon came with a recovery timeline of 5-to-6 months. He had surgery Sept. 11 and began running in early December.
Mar 5, 2021
No charges filed
Miller (ankle) will have no charges brought against him in regards his investigation by the Parker (Colo.) Police Department, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller had been subject to an investigation for unspecified allegations by the Parker Police Department since mid-January, but the District Attorney's office from 18th Judicial District has now decided not to file any charges. Broncos general manager George Paton recently announced that he wants to bring Miller back for 2021, per Aric DiLalla of the team's official site, and the veteran linebacker's legal situation now being resolved could smooth out negotiations. Miller's anticipated cap hit for 2021 is $22.2 million, too rich a figure for a player coming off a completely missed season due to a dislocated peroneal tendon. With Justin Simmons having just received Denver's franchise tag, it looks like Miller's negotiations will have to revolve around a revised multi-year deal that would reduce his cap hit.
Mar 5, 2021
In GM's 2021 plans
Broncos general manager George Paton said of Miller (ankle) on Thursday, "We want to bring Von back," Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was under investigation from the Parker (Colo.) Police Department during January and February, but allegations against the 31-year-old remain unspecified and no charges have been made to this point. While Paton shows deference to the ongoing legal proceedings, labeling it a "serious situation," he's simultaneously considering avenues of keeping the Super Bowl 50 MVP in the Mile High City. Miller's anticipated 2021 cap hit of $22.2 million is disproportionate for a player who missed all of last season because of a disclosed perineal tendon in his ankle, and who the year prior registered his lowest sack total (eight) over a campaign with at least 10 game appearances. A revised multi-year deal -- consisting of a reduced per-season cap hit -- may be the ideal resolution for both sides, but Miller's unresolved legal situation adds a component of uncertainty to negotiations.
Feb 24, 2021
Subject of investigation
Parker, Colorado police provided results to the District Attorney's Office regarding an investigation of allegations against Miller (ankle), but no decision has been made on potential charges Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Parker Police Department confirmed Jan 15. that Miller was the subject of an investigation, though it declined to reveal the case's nature, according to Troy Renck of Denver 7 News. The legal issue remains unclear as a notable contractual turning point approaches. Miller, who turns 32 in March, will be owed a $7 million roster bonus if the Broncos exercise his 2021 club option. The deadline for a decision is March 17.
Feb 17, 2021
Contract situation undetermined
Miller's (ankle) $17.5 million option for 2021 is still being considered within the organization, and a decision is yet to be made on his pending contract, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
While ESPN's Dan Graziano considers it "likely" the Broncos elect to decline Miller's 2021 option, there remains the possibility the two sides work out a revised deal. The three-time All-Pro is due a $7 million bonus in mid-March, meaning there will certainly be a discussion between Miller and the front office before that point. Miller is coming off a lost 2020 campaign, having gone without a single game appearance after suffering a dislocated peroneal tendon in his ankle during an early-September practice. He posted eight sacks over 15 appearances in 2019 after reaching 10-plus sacks in five straight seasons between 2014 and 2018.
Dec 14, 2020
Starts running
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Miller (ankle) started running last week but isn't expected to play in Sunday's game against the Bills, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A couple of weeks back, Fangio suggested that Miller's potential return is a "moot point." There remains a slim chance that he could still return this season, especially with the playoffs out of reach. It's nevertheless an encouraging sign that Miller is able to run just three months after suffering a dislocated peroneal tendon in his ankle, an injury which typically takes a 5-to-6 month recovery. The 31-year-old should be at 100 percent for the 2021 campaign.
Dec 2, 2020
Return unlikely this season
Miller (ankle) still hasn't been cleared to practice and coach Vic Fangio referred to his status as "a moot point at this point" Wednesday, Kyle Newman of the Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
With the playoffs almost certainly out of reach, there's little reason for the 4-7 Broncos to rush Miller back this season, and Fangio seems to be hinting that the team won't do so. Miller will set his sights on recovering fully so he can hit the ground running for the 2021 season.
Nov 23, 2020
Making progress in recovery
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Miller (ankle) is "progressing well" but won't practice this week, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old is still recovering from September surgery that repaired a dislocated peroneal tendon, a procedure that typically requires a 5-to-6 month recovery. Fangio explained further that it's still too early to tell whether the star linebacker will return this season. If the Broncos are out of playoff contention, however, it seems unlikely that they'll rush Miller back.
Oct 29, 2020
Sheds walking boot
Miller (ankle) was spotted without a walking boot on his left foot Thursday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller has taken on some leadership and coaching duties while on injured reserve, but he still hasn't been cleared to actually resume handling practice reps. Still, it's encouraging to see him consistently getting involved in some capacity. While it's also good news that the veteran pass rusher has managed to discard his walking boot, he still appears to be targeting a mid-December return.
Oct 28, 2020
Sports boot at practice
Miller (ankle) was spotted coaching his fellow outside linebackers while wearing a walking boot in practice Wednesday, Troy Renck of ABC Denver7 reports.
ANALYSIS
It's nice to see Miller taking on a leadership role and contributing however he can while recovering from his ankle injury, but his walking boot suggests he's still nowhere near returning to game action. Miller has been targeting a mid-December return, so it will likely take him a few more weeks to shed the boot.
Oct 14, 2020
Return uncertain for 2020
Coach Vic Fangio said Miller (ankle) is "right where he should be" in his recovery from surgery on his dislocated peroneal tendon but added that it's too early to tell whether Miller will be able to play this year, Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller has been targeting a mid-December return, but the surgery he underwent on Sept. 11 typically requires a 4-6 month recovery process. While the highly competitive pass rusher will surely do everything in his power to come back late in the season if the Broncos are making a playoff push, such a scenario seems unlikely given the team's 1-3 record at this point. If Denver has been eliminated from playoff contention by the time Miller's nearing a return, the team will likely play it safe and hold him out until next season.
Sep 20, 2020
Targeting mid-December return
Miller (ankle) is working out daily under the Broncos' supervision and is hopeful to return from injured reserve in mid-December if Denver remains in playoff contention, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The Pro Bowl linebacker was projected to miss 4-to-6 months after he underwent surgery Sept. 11 to address a dislocated peroneal tendon, an injury he suffered in a workout three days earlier. Though he remains in the early phases of his rehab process, Miller is apparently optimistic that he can cut nearly a full month off that projected recovery timeline to suit up for Denver before the regular season wraps up. He's still expected to remain confined to a walking boot for seven more weeks before transitioning to football activities, at which point he would still need more time to regain full strength in his left ankle.
Sep 15, 2020
Lands on IR
The Broncos will place Miller (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller's move to IR is merely a formality, as the edge rusher is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2020 season after undergoing surgery last week to address a dislocated peroneal tendon. While Miller's procedure typically carries a recovery timeline of 5-to-6 months, he plans to attack his rehab aggressively with the hope of getting back on the field at the tail end of the regular season or during the playoffs, should the Broncos qualify. Denver would have to designate him to return from IR at some point to facilitate his eventual return to the 53-man roster.
Sep 10, 2020
Bound for surgery, injured reserve
Miller (ankle) is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller, who suffered a dislocated peroneal tendon during practice earlier this week, will also shift to injured reserve in the near future, per Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com. Though the star pass rusher will technically be eligible to return from IR after a minimum of three weeks, his ankle procedure carries a recovery timetable of several months. The 31-year-old could still have a chance for a late-season return, depending on how quickly his rehab progresses.
Sep 9, 2020
Likely facing 5-to-6 month recovery
Miller (ankle) has been diagnosed with a dislocated peroneal tendon, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Rapoport notes that Miller's likeliest option will be to undergo surgery, which would give him a recovery timetable between five and six months, though a three-month "absolute best-case scenario" could also be possible. It's encouraging that the window on a late-season return hasn't been completely closed, though it looks like season-ending surgery is the more probable final outcome. In any case, losing Miller for any amount of time will be a huge blow for Denver's pass-rush corps.
Sep 8, 2020
Surgery to be ordered up
Miller is slated to undergo surgery after suffering a torn tendon in his ankle at Tuesday's practice, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Due to blizzard conditions in the Denver metro area, the Broncos held practice indoors, a session that ended with Miller sustaining the freak injury. Following an MRI, we're starting to get a clearer picture of the issue, but he'll visit Dr. Robert Anderson in Green Bay on Thursday to get a second opinion, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The meeting very well may confirm what has been suspected: Miller's 2020 season is over.
Sep 8, 2020
May have season-ending injury
Miller injured an ankle tendon during Tuesday's practice and likely will require season-ending surgery, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Instead of the customary outdoor session, the Broncos held practice indoors Tuesday due to an ongoing blizzard. According to Schefter, the team was only in shells, but still the worst happened as Miller suffered the injury in the final moments. If Miller's season is over before it can start, Denver will be left with a pass-rush group of Bradley Chubb (knee) and not much else, making it a prime candidate to bring in reinforcements.
Sep 8, 2020
Serious injury feared
Miller sustained a lower leg injury during Tuesday's practice, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
There's already been much speculation regarding the injury, including it impacted Miller's Achilles (per Garafolo) or ankle (per Adam Schefter of ESPN), and that it likely is season ending (per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network). Ultimately, the diagnosis and eventually the prognosis will be determined by the results of an MRI and other testing.
Aug 23, 2020
Participates in practice Sunday
Miller (elbow) returned to practice Sunday, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller missed a couple days of practice, but his swift return to the practice field signals that it wasn't a serious injury. Miller and Bradley Chubb (knee) are both expected to be ready for Week 1 and form one of the league's best pass-rushing tandems. They combined for 26.5 sacks in 2018 when they both played 16 games.
Aug 20, 2020
Dealing with elbow issue
Coach Vic Fangio said Thursday that Miller is dealing with an elbow injury of uncertain severity, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller will likely have to undergo further medical evaluation before the nature and severity of his injury can be disclosed. The 31-year-old will have more than three weeks to retake the field ahead of the season-opener against Tennessee.
Apr 30, 2020
Recovers from COVID-19 case
Miller (illness) announced via his official Twitter account Thursday that he's tested negative for COVID-19.
ANALYSIS
Miller first announced his case of COVID-19 on April 16, but it now looks as though the star pass rusher has recovered and returned to health. The Broncos have already picked up Miller's $18 million contract option for 2020, setting him up to reprise his usual role as a pillar of the team's linebacker corps.
Apr 16, 2020
Confirmed case of COVID-19
Miller has a confirmed case of COVID-19, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, Miller is "home resting and in good spirits" and "plans to speak publicly" Friday. The linebacker recorded 46 tackles and eight sacks in 15 contests with the Broncos last season.
Dec 13, 2019
Ready for Week 15
Miller (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Kansas City, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller played through the MCL sprain Week 14 and was limited to 59 percent of defensive snaps, but he appears to be much healthier entering Week 15. The 30-year-old may not end up seeing his usual full workload, but he seems likely to see the field more than last week.
Dec 12, 2019
Making progress in recovery
Miller (knee) said Thursday that his MCL sprain is "way better than it was last week," Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller played through his knee injury during Week 14's win over the Texans, during which he notched three tackles (one solo) despite playing a season-low 59 percent of snaps on defense. The veteran pass rusher also said "I shouldn't have any problems playing on Sunday" in Kansas City. While it's certainly good news that any uncertainty surrounding the All-Pro's availability has dissipated, it remains to be seen whether he'll be limited at all versus the Chiefs.
Dec 8, 2019
Suiting up versus Texans
Miller (knee) is active for Sunday's tilt against the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Miller was initially listed as questionable for Week 14 and considered a game-time call, so it appears as though his knee injury held up well during pregame workouts. The star pass rusher stands to draw his usual start at inside linebacker, though Jeremiah Attaochu could see an uptick in snaps if Miller is limited in any capacity.
Dec 8, 2019
Game-time call Sunday
Miller (knee) is considered a true game-time call for Sunday's game against the Texans, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller missed last week's game against the Chargers, and logged a trio of limited practices while dealing with an MCL sprain in his left knee. His workout pregame will have a strong say as to whether the All-Pro pass rusher can suit up or not. If Miller is forced to miss his second consecutive contest, Jeremiah Attaochu figures to again draw the start with Justin Hollins in line for an uptick in usage.

Officially questionable
Miller (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller logged a trio of limited practice sessions this week while nursing a sprained MCL in his left knee. The injury caused him to sit out Week 13's tilt against the Chargers. The star pass rusher said Friday that his availability will come down to a game-time decision, per Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com, and that he'll test his knee during pregame workouts.

Uncertain for Week 14
Miller (knee) said Thursday that he isn't sure he'll be available for Sunday's contest against the Texans, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller is nursing a sprained MCL in his left knee, according to Troy Renck of Denver 7 News, the severity of which caused him to sit out Week 13's win over the Chargers. It looks as though he's heading for another "limited" designation on Thursday's practice report. The star pass rusher is close to a return to the field, per Renck, but he's still having issues combating blockers during practice. Friday's final practice session of the week will further illuminate Miller's chances of taking the field in Houston on Sunday.

Working in limited capacity
Miller (knee) will be limited during Wednesday's practice, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was already given a "good chance" to play Sunday against the Texans, and his participation, albeit limited, in practice supports that notion. The 30-year-old will need to finish the practice week without a setback, but the Broncos' top pass rusher is on the right track.

Trending in right direction
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday "there's a good chance" Miller (knee) suits up against the Texans in Week 14, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller wasn't able to suit up against the Chargers in Week 13 due to a knee injury, but he appears to be progressing well in his recovery. If the star pass rusher is indeed able to suit up versus Houston on Sunday, he'll draw his usual start in Denver's linebacker corps.

Coach hopeful about Week 14 status
After Sunday's victory over the Chargers, coach Vic Fangio said he's "hopeful" Miller (knee) will be available against the Texans in Week 14, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fangio added that Miller was "close" to playing Sunday, but he isn't sure about Miller's status for Week 14 at this point. The pass rusher's absence against the Chargers was his first missed game since 2013, and it looks like his absence is unlikely extend beyond one additional week at most.

Won't suit up against Chargers
Miller (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Miller will miss his first game since the 2013 season after undergoing an MRI earlier in the week, breaking his streak of 91 straight starts. The Broncos will be without their top pass rusher, as Miller has compiled six sacks over the last eight games. Jeremiah Attaochu figures to work as the starter while Justin Hollins also garners an uptick in usage.

50-50 for Sunday
Miller (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Vic Fangio said Miller's chances of playing were "50-50" but noted the linebacker had made progress during the week. The 30-year-old's streak of 91 consecutive regular-season starts is in jeopardy. Malik Reed and Jeremiah Attaochu stand to see increased snaps if Miller is out.

No practice Wednesday
Miller (knee) did not participate in Wednesday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller had an MRI on his knee Monday, so it's somewhat concerning to see him now being held out of practice to start the week. Look for more updates on the star linebacker's health to come ahead of Sunday's tilt against the Chargers.

Another sack Sunday
Miller (knee) recorded three tackles (two solo) and a sack across 64 defensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Miller continues to find a way to reach opposing quarterbacks, as he brings his season total to six. He'll now be tasked with taking down Philip Rivers, which he failed in their first meeting of the season back in October. However, the veteran did undergo an MRI on Monday for a potential knee issue -- so look for more updates to come when the team's practice report is released later this week.

Undergoes MRI
Miller (knee) had an MRI on Monday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller didn't show any ill effects during Sunday's loss to the Bills, as he played 64 of a possible 80 defensive snaps (80 percent) -- his highest count since Week 5. Coach Vic Fangio also relayed that "[Miller's] fine at this point." We'll wait for the MRI results to get more clarity on the issue, although his practice capacity Wednesday will also be a good measure.

Practices in full Friday
Miller (knee) does not have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Miller missed Wednesday's practice but has ratcheted up his participation each day since, culminating in a full return Friday. The nine-year-vet is coming off just his second game with a sack this season but is at 3.5 on the year.

Expected to play Week 9
Coach Vic Fangio said Thursday that he expects Miller (knee) to suit up against the Browns on Sunday, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller has returned to practice after missing Wednesday's session, though his activity level won't be revealed until Thursday's injury report is released. The 30-year-old linebacker doesn't appear in danger of missing any time, though if he's unable to practice in full this week, his role versus Cleveland on Sunday could be limited.

Sits out practice
Miller didn't practice Wednesday due to knee irritation but it's believed to be a minor injury, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports
ANALYSIS
Miller played 94 percent of defensive snaps in Sunday's loss to the Colts -- his highest snap share since Week 2 -- and will take it easy to start the week. The 30-year-old doesn't appear to be in danger for Week 10, but it'll be worth checking back at the end of the week to see if he receives an injury designation.

Sheds injury designation
Miller (knee) is not listed on Thursday's injury report, Zac Stevens of BSNDenver.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller dealt with minor knee soreness during the preseason and now looks fully healthy. All signs point to the star pass-rusher being ready to suit up without limitations versus the Raiders on Monday. Miller has expressed a desire to play a higher percentage of snaps in 2019, so he could be in line for a big day against the Raiders' unimpressive protective front.
