Back with Indianapolis
French (ankle) re-signed with the Colts on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old from Western Michigan missed all of Indianapolis' 2024 campaign due to an ankle injury, but his re-signing with the team Wednesday suggests he's recovered from the issue. With Ryan Kelly signing with the Vikings, French will likely compete with 2024 fourth-round pick Tanor Bortolini for the Colts' starting center spot in 2025.

Recovering from ankle surgery
French underwent season-ending surgery on his ankle prior to being placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
French had been poised to open the season as the top backup to starting center Ryan Kelly before succumbing to the injury. Indianapolis signed undrafted free agent Ryan Coll to replace French on the roster, though rookie fourth-round pick Tanor Bortolini and fifth-year lineman Danny Pinter are more likely candidates to step in as Kelly's backup.

Lands on IR
The Colts placed French (lower leg) on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
French missed Wednesday's practice with a lower leg issue and has already been placed on Indianapolis' IR. The Western Michigan product appeared in 17 regular-season games with the Colts last season, playing 270 offensive snaps. In a corresponding move, Indianapolis agreed to terms with center Ryan Coll.
