Promoted to No. 2 QB
Wilson will back up Tua Tagovailoa during Sunday's game against the Falcons, with Quinn Ewers serving as the emergency No. 3 QB.
ANALYSIS
Wilson and Ewers switched roles last week, but the former had been the primary backup for the first six weeks of the season. Wilson has appeared in only one game this season, completing five of eight passes for 32 yards and rushing once for three yards across nine offensive snaps in Week 1.
Oct 20, 2025
Fighting for No. 2 QB spot
Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Monday that Wilson will compete with rookie Quinn Ewers this week for Miami's No. 2 quarterback position, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson served as the Dolphins' top reserve quarterback in each of the team's first six games but was demoted ahead of the Week 7 loss to the Browns. Ewers entered Sunday's contest in the fourth quarter, completing five of eight pass attempts for 53 yards and fumbling twice on just 12 offensive snaps. Wilson will now have the opportunity to compete for that No. 2 QB spot again after throwing for 6,325 yards, 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions over 35 career games.
Oct 19, 2025
Demoted to emergency QB
Wilson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns but will serve as the emergency third QB.
ANALYSIS
Quinn Ewers had been promoted to the No. 2 QB behind Tua Tagovailoa, sending Wilson down the depth chart. Wilson technically will be inactive but can enter the contest if Tagovailoa and Ewers are unable to return. The only snaps Tagovailoa has missed this season came in Week 1 when the Colts were blowing out the Dolphins.
Aug 24, 2025
Another mixed performance
Wilson completed nine of 13 passes for 80 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 14-6 preseason win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Wilson followed Tua Tagovailoa into the game and led two lengthy possessions. The first stalled after Wilson took a sack, but he then tallied long completions of 21 and 17 yards on the following drive, which concluded in a rushing score. Wilson appears likely to head into the regular season as Tagovailoa's backup.
Aug 16, 2025
Tosses one TD in preseason win
Wilson completed 15 of 23 pass attempts for 151 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 24-17 preseason win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Wilson turned in a mixed performance Saturday, highlighted by his first-quarter TD pass to Dee Eskridge, though he also underthrew Eskridge in the second quarter while attempting to connect on a deep completion and was nearly intercepted. He also whiffed on what would have been a TD pass to Tarik Black in the back of the end zone in the first quarter, with that drive ending via a fourth-down sack. In all, Wilson was clearly outshone by Quinn Ewers (11-of-17, 116 yards, two scores), and though coach Mike McDaniel said he's "not going to overreact to results" after one exhibition contest, per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, the backup gig behind Tua Tagovailoa may now be a closer competition heading into Miami's preseason finale against the Jaguars on Sat., Aug. 23.

In line to back up Tagovailoa
Wilson has agreed to a one-year deal with the Dolphins, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, the Dolphins prioritized adding a steady backup QB option after the issues the team experienced last season when Tua Tagovailoa missed time. In adding Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Miami gains an experienced alternative with a degree of upside to work behind Tagovailoa in 2025. According to Schefter, Wilson's pact is a $6 million, fully-guaranteed deal that could grow to $10 million.
Feb 16, 2025
Doesn't play in 2024
Wilson did not appear in a single regular-season game in 2024.
ANALYSIS
Wilson spent the past three seasons with the Jets, who selected him with the second-overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Broncos in late-April and was given a chance to earn the starting quarterback job in training camp, which he and Jarrett Stidham eventually lost to rookie Bo Nix. Wilson served as the Broncos' emergency quarterback and did not see the field during the regular season and in Denver's lone playoff game against Buffalo. The Broncos opted to decline Wilson's team option for 2025, which means he will enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, though he'll likely end up serving as the No. 2 quarterback at best wherever he ends up signing.
Dec 19, 2024
Serving as emergency QB for Week 16
Wilson (coach's decision) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Chargers and will be Denver's emergency third quarterback, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has yet to play in a game this season, though he's frequently been designated as Denver's emergency third quarterback. He won't be able to enter Thursday's AFC West clash unless both Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham become unavailable due to injury, illness or ejection.
Dec 2, 2024
Emergency QB for Week 13
Wilson (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday night's matchup against the Browns but will serve as Denver's emergency third quarterback.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has yet to appear in a game for the Broncos this season and will continue to serve as the team's emergency third quarterback in Week 13. Jarrett Stidham will back up Bo Nix on Monday night, and Wilson can only enter the game if both QBs ahead of him become unavailable.
Nov 24, 2024
Emergency QB again
Wilson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders but will serve as Denver's emergency third quarterback.
ANALYSIS
For Wilson to get into the game, Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham would both have to be unavailable. It's a role that the former No. 2 overall pick of the Jets has been playing all season for the Broncos. Wilson has yet to appear in a regular-season game in 2024.
Nov 10, 2024
Emergency QB for Week 10
Wilson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chiefs but will operate as Denver's emergency third quarterback.
ANALYSIS
Wilson won't count against the Broncos' gameday roster limit but will be eligible to play if Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham are injured Sunday. Wilson has not played yet this season.
Nov 3, 2024
Emergency QB again
Wilson (coach's decision) will serve as Denver's emergency third quarterback for Sunday's game in Baltimore, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has regularly been serving as the Broncos' emergency quarterback, while Jarrett Stidham backs up Bo Nix under center on the active roster. The former first-round pick has not seen the field this season for Denver.
Oct 17, 2024
Emergency QB for Week 7
Wilson (coach's decision) will serve as Denver's emergency third quarterback for Thursday's game against New Orleans, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson will once again serve as the emergency quarterback for the Broncos for Thursday's contest. He will only see the field if both starter Bo Nix and backup Jarrett Stidham were removed from the game due to injury.
Oct 13, 2024
Remaining emergency option
Wilson (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Wilson remains the team's No. 3 option at quarterback behind starter Bo Nix and backup Jarrett Stidham. Although, as he has been doing this season, the BYU product will suit up and operate as the team's emergency quarterback, which will allow him to enter the game if Nix and Stidham were to get injured.
Sep 22, 2024
Tapped as emergency quarterback
Wilson (coach's decision) is designated as the Broncos' emergency third quarterback for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Wilson is technically listed as inactive for Week 3, but he'll be available for action in the case that both Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham go down to injury. In that unlikely case, he'd be inheriting an offense that's been dysfunctional to start the season.
Sep 8, 2024
Emergency QB in Week 1
Wilson (coach's decision) is inactive but serving as the emergency third quarterback in Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Jarrett Stidham is serving as the No. 2 quarterback behind rookie 12th overall pick Bo Nix, who'll make his NFL debut as a starter Sunday. Wilson arrived in Denver this offseason in need of a career reset after a difficult first three years with the Jets, but he'll only enter Sunday's game if both Nix and Stidham are forced from the contest due to injury.
Aug 25, 2024
Shines in preseason finale
Wilson completed 16 of 25 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 38-12 preseason win over the Cardinals. He added 22 rushing yards and a TD on two carries.
ANALYSIS
Jarrett Stidham led the offense for Denver's first possession and got the team into the end zone, but Wilson played the rest of the way and had plenty of success on his own, finding Nate Adkins for a one-yard score in the second quarter and Brandon Johnson for a 46-yard TD strike in the fourth. Wilson also added a one-yard touchdown plunge of his own just before halftime. Despite the strong performance, the former Jet will still likely head into the season as the Broncos' No. 3 quarterback, with 2024 12th overall pick Bo Nix having already been named the Week 1 starter.
Jun 18, 2024
Struggles in spring practices
Wilson failed to impress at spring practices, according to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Kosmider suggests Wilson seemed to have more trouble than rookie Bo Nix with the adjustment to coach Sean Payton's offense. While Wilson still has time to make an impression during training camp and the preseason, it sounds like he's currently positioned to be the No. 3 QB or even released. The Broncos acquired him in April for a late-round pick swap, trading down from No. 203 to 256 while taking on only half of Wilson's $5.5 million salary from the Jets.
May 1, 2024
Won't have option picked up
The Broncos don't plan to pick up the fifth-year option in Wilson's contract, Jeff Legwold of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who the Jets took with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, joined the Broncos in a trade with New York leading up to this year's draft. With his new team not in line to pick up his fifth-year option -- which would have been for a guaranteed $22.4 million -- the 24 year-old is in a position to become a free agent next March. For now, Wilson is slated to compete with first-round rookie Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham -- who started Denver's final two games of the 2023 regular season -- for the Week 1 starting assignment. While Nix is presumably viewed as the franchise's long-term answer at QB, in the short term, slotting at the position is up for grabs in advance of training camp.
Apr 22, 2024
Traded to Denver
The Jets are trading Wilson to the Broncos for a late-round pick swap, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jets will give up the 256th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and receive pick No. 203. They'll also hold some of Wilson's salary, with the 24-year-old scheduled for $5.45 million in guaranteed compensation for the final year of his rookie contract. This could give Wilson a shot to compete for a starting job, depending on what the Broncos do in the upcoming draft. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are the other QBs on Denver's roster, with Stidham the favorite to start Week 1 if no early draft pick is added to the room.
Mar 25, 2024
May stay if no trade happens
Jets Chairman Woody Johnson suggested Monday that if the Jets don't trade Wilson, they intend to keep the QB, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, Cimini notes that the Jets remain motivated to deal Wilson, who last month was granted permission to speak to other teams about a possible trade. Given that Tyrod Taylor was recently signed by the Jets to back up Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), a change of scenery would no doubt benefit Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In three seasons since then, the 24-year-old has compiled a 12-21 record as a starter and has thrown more interceptions (25) than TD passes (23) in that span.
Feb 28, 2024
Given permission to seek trade
General manager Joe Douglas said Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that Wilson (concussion) has been given permission to seek a trade, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who ended the 2023 season on IR while recovering from concussion symptoms, with which he missed the Jets' final three games. The 2021 second overall pick's time being up in New York almost looks inevitable at this point, especially after he was tussled back and forth between the starting lineup and bench throughout the 2023 campaign. If a team around the league doesn't emerge who'd be willing to trade for Wilson, who may still offer some developmental upside, New York could also opt to waive him. In any case, the Jets seem likely to prioritize an upgrade at backup behind Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), with Trevor Siemian and Brett Rypien being the other QBs present on the roster.
Jan 7, 2024
Offseason trade expected
The Jets will try to trade Wilson (concussion) in the offseason, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
This news comes as no surprise, though Rapoport's reporting adds more legitimacy to previous rumblings that Wilson's tenure with the Jets has come to a close. Wilson will first have to recover from the concussion that kept him out of New York's final three games before he can be moved. If the Jets fail to find a trade partner for the former second overall pick, they could release Wilson to clear space on the roster for a veteran backup to 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers, who is working his way back from a torn Achilles.
Jan 6, 2024
Moves to injured reserve
Wilson (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
It's an uneventful end to what could realistically be Wilson's final season with the Jets. The third-year quarterback missed the final three games of the 2023 campaign due to a concussion, but given how Wilson was yo-yo'd in and out of the starting lineup since Week 11, it's fair to question if the team had whittled away the 24-year-old's confidence to the point of no return. With Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) set to start next season, it's unclear what the future holds for Wilson in a Jets uniform.
Jan 3, 2024
Time could be up in NY
Rich Cimini of ESPN.com believes Wilson -- who remains in concussion protocol and won't play in Sunday's season finale against the Patriots -- likely won't be back with the Jets next season.
ANALYSIS
After struggling for two seasons as the starter, Wilson was demoted to a backup role behind Aaron Rodgers heading into his third NFL season. Rodgers tore his Achilles four plays into the season, thus thrusting Wilson back into a starting role. The second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has shown flashes of brilliance, but he hasn't sustained strong play while catching some bad breaks along the way. After posting his best game of the season with 301 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 14 win over the Texans, Wilson was concussed in the first half of the team's Week 15 loss to Miami, and that may be his final chapter as a Jet. With Rodgers set to return in 2024, the Jets will likely opt for a more reliable backup to their 40-year-old starter.
Jan 3, 2024
Won't play in season finale
Wilson hasn't cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and won't play in Sunday's season finale against the Patriots, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With Wilson unavailable for Week 18 action, Trevor Siemian is in line to draw the start at QB for the Jets on Sunday. Meanwhile, coach Robert Saleh was non-committal Wednesday in terms of Wilson's future with the franchise, noting that he believed that the signal-caller has a long career ahead of him, but whether that will be with the Jets remains to be seen. In any case, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft finishes up his 2023 campaign with 2,271 passing yards to go along with eight TDs and seven interceptions in 12 games.
Dec 29, 2023
Has chance to play Week 18
Coach Robert Saleh said Friday that it's too early to tell whether Wilson (concussion) will be available for next Sunday's season finale against the Patriots, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has missed the last two games while in concussion protocol, and Trevor Siemian has put up underwhelming numbers while filling in under center. While Wilson has more than a full week to recover before the Jets travel to New England in Week 18, the 6-10 Jets will have nothing to play for, so they have little reason to rush Wilson's return. His participation level in practice next week will likely be indicative of Wilson's chances of suiting up against the Patriots.
Dec 26, 2023
Will remain out for Week 17
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Tuesday that Wilson hasn't cleared concussion protocol and has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Wilson doesn't seem to have made much tangible progress through the five-step protocol since suffering the concussion in a Dec. 17 loss to Miami, as he remained listed as a non-participant Monday on the Jets' initial Week 17 practice report. The Jets have determined that Wilson won't pass all five phases of the protocol before Thursday, so he'll miss a second game in a row while Trevor Siemian gets another turn as the team's starting quarterback. Wilson could still be in the mix for the start in the season finale versus the Patriots in Week 18, provided he can clear the protocol.
Dec 26, 2023
Status uncertain for Thursday
Wilson (concussion) remains in the NFL's five-step concussion protocol Tuesday and his status for Thursday's game against the Browns is up-in-the-air, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was listed as a non-participant on Monday's estimated practice report due to a concussion sustained just before halftime of the Jets' Week 15 divisional loss to the Dolphins. Coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson is "progressing," but unless he's able to get back on the practice field in at least a limited capacity Tuesday, it will be difficult for the quarterback to gain clearance in time for Thursday Night Football. Trevor Siemian will get a second straight start if Wilson is unable to play.
Dec 25, 2023
DNP on practice estimate
Wilson (concussion) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimate, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson sustained a concussion just before halftime of the Jets' Week 15 loss in Miami and hasn't practiced in the meantime, missing one game in the process. Considering the lack of activity and the fact New York is facing a quick turnaround for Thursday's game at Cleveland, he appears to be in danger of sitting out multiple weeks. Wilson's replacement, Trevor Siemian, has fared modestly over roughly six quarters so far, completing 41 of 75 passes for 327 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions, taking four carries for 18 yards and losing both of his fumbles. Wilson will have two more chances this week to put himself in a position to return to action Thursday.
Dec 22, 2023
Could miss multiple games
Wilson (concussion), who has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Commanders, is unlikely to be available in Week 17 against the Browns due to that game being Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. "It does make it a challenge that it's a Thursday game," coach Robert Saleh said Friday of Wilson's potential Week 17 availability. "He's got to clear some hurdles over the weekend. It's going to be one of those where we'll see."
ANALYSIS
Due to the short turnaround, Wilson will have just four additional days to clear concussion protocol after Sunday's game. Trevor Siemian will make his first start of the season Sunday against the Commanders, and Siemian is likely to start again Thursday regardless of how he fares against Washington, though Brett Rypien could also be an option after signing with the Jets earlier in December.
Dec 22, 2023
Won't face Commanders
Wilson (concussion) won't play Sunday against the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, with Wilson ruled out, Trevor Siemian will start at QB for the Jets on Sunday. Wilson will now target a potential return to action next Thursday against the Browns.
Dec 21, 2023
Logs another 'DNP'
Wilson (concussion) didn't participate in Thursday's walk-through, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, also was listed as a non-participant Wednesday and now has one more chance to get some work in before Sunday's game against the Commanders. Per Cimini, at this stage all signs point to Trevor Siemian getting the Jets' starting QB nod in Week 16.
Dec 20, 2023
Remains in protocol Wednesday
Wilson (concussion) won't practice Wednesday and remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that the Jets are "not closing the door yet" on Wilson being available for Sunday's game against the Commanders, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Wilson would start against Washington if he's able to clear concussion protocol. Should Wilson sit, Trevor Siemian -- who replaced Wilson in the first half of the 30-0 Week 15 loss to Miami -- would make his first start of 2023.
Dec 18, 2023
Remains starter, if cleared
Coach Robert Saleh indicated Monday that if Wilson is able to clear the NFL's concussion protocol ahead of Sunday's game against the Commanders, he'll remain the Jets' starting QB, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The report adds that if Wilson is unable to fully advance through the protocol, Trevor Siemian would be in line to start in his place. Meanwhile, per Eric Allen of the Jets' official site, the team has until Wednesday to decide whether to activate Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) from IR. It remains to be seen how the Jets -- who have been eliminated from playoff contention -- will approach the veteran QB's situation, but at this stage Cimini suggests that it seems unlikely that Rodgers will see action over New York's final three games.
Dec 17, 2023
Suffers concussion Sunday
Wilson sustained a concussion during Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
When Wilson was initially ruled out from the contest and replaced by Trevor Siemian, the Jets cited a head injury as the cause for the QB's early exit. However, it has now been confirmed that Wilson suffered a concussion, which means that he'll have to progress through the NFL's five-step protocol in order to gain clearance to play ahead of next Sunday's game against the Commanders.
Dec 17, 2023
Done for day with head injury
Wilson exited late in the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Dolphins due to a head injury and won't return to the contest, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
After taking home AFC Player of the Week honors in last Sunday's 30-6 win over the Texans, Wilson got off to a dismal start against Miami. He took four sacks and completed just four of 11 attempts for 26 yards and lost a fumble before heading to the locker room during the Jets' final possession of the first half. According to Jeff Darlington of ESPN, Wilson is not in concussion protocol, and CBS Sports' Tracy Wolfson relayed during the television broadcast that the quarterback's early exit was a result of him experiencing dehydration. Trevor Siemian led a scoreless drive to a close out the second quarter and was back on the field to begin the third quarter, so he looks poised to finish the game with Wilson sidelined. The Jets' plans at quarterback are unclear heading into Week 16, as Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) could attain medical clearance to return to action for the team's Dec. 24 game against the Commanders. However, since the Jets faced a 24-0 halftime deficit against Miami and will most likely drop to 5-9
Dec 13, 2023
Full practice Wednesday
Wilson (knee) practiced fully Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Robert Saleh relayed Monday that Wilson was dealing with a minor knee issue that wasn't expected to impact his Week 15 status, and the QB's full practice participation Wednesday confirms that he'll be available versus Miami this weekend. While making his first start since Week 11, Wilson completed 27 of 36 pass attempts for 301 yards and two touchdowns in this past Sunday's 30-6 win over the Texans.
Dec 11, 2023
Nursing minor knee injury
Coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson is dealing with a knee injury coming out of the 30-6 win over the Texans, but Saleh doesn't anticipate that the injury will impact Wilson's availability for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Saleh didn't sound overly concerned about Wilson's knee, but the starting quarterback's practice participation will still be worth monitoring as the Jets prepare to face their AFC East rivals. Wilson's coming off his best performance of the season, as he reached the 300-yard threshold for the first time in 2023 while throwing two touchdowns without an interception.
Dec 10, 2023
Wins battle of second overall picks
Wilson completed 27 of 36 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 30-6 win over the Texans. He added three rushing attempts for 12 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Making his first start since Week 11, Wilson posted his first 300-yard performance of the season and third of his career. Neither team scored until Wilson connected with Randall Cobb for a 15-yard touchdown on the first possession of the third quarter. That drive started a stretch of three touchdowns in four drives for the Jets. Wilson lost a fumble on the lone non-scoring possession over that span but bounced back with a three-yard touchdown pass to Breece Hall. Unless Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) is declared ready to play in Week 15 against the Dolphins, Wilson has earned himself another start after leading the offense to 30 second-half points to snap the Jets' five-game losing streak.
Dec 6, 2023
Named as Week 14 starter
Wilson will start Sunday's game against the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Coach Robert Saleh made the announcement Wednesday and told reporters that he hopes Wilson will be the starter for the rest of the regular season, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. The comment is an implicit acknowledgement that Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) won't return this year, which was all but guaranteed after the Jets dropped to 4-8 with a loss to the Falcons this past Sunday. They then waived Tim Boyle on Tuesday and replaced him with Brett Rypien, who will join Wilson, Rodgers and Trevor Siemian in the Jets' QB room.
Nov 21, 2023
To be emergency third QB
Coach Robert Saleh said Tuesday that Wilson will be inactive but the Jets' emergency third quarterback Friday against the Dolphins, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
One day removed from his demotion as the Jets' starting quarterback, Wilson's fate for the foreseeable future seemingly has been confirmed, while Tim Boyle takes over No. 1 duties and Trevor Siemian serves as the backup signal-caller. If Wilson doesn't see the field again this season, he'll finish it with 1,944 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions on 59 percent passing, 33 carries for 199 yards and nine fumbles (five lost).
Nov 20, 2023
Drops to third on depth chart
Head coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson will be active as the Jets' No. 3 quarterback for Friday's game against the Dolphins, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Multiple reports surfaced earlier Monday indicating that Tim Boyle would supplant Wilson as the team's starting quarterback, but Wilson's drop to third on the depth chart wasn't made official until Saleh spoke to the media. The Jets will either elevate Trevor Siemian from the practice squad or sign him to the 53-man roster, and he'll suit up as the top backup while Boyle takes over as the starter. According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, Saleh noted that no thought was given to releasing Wilson after the third-year signal-caller was benched midway through Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Bills, and his future with the organization will be dealt with in the offseason. Since being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the 24-year-old Wilson has completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 6.3 yards per attempt and a 21:25 TD:INT over 32 games (31 starts).
Nov 20, 2023
Ousted as starting quarterback
Wilson will move into a backup role for Friday's game against the Dolphins, with the Jets turning to Tim Boyle as their Week 12 starting quarterback, a source tells Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
The writing appeared to be on the wall for Wilson's removal from the starting role, as he was benched during Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Bills before head coach Robert Saleh said after the game that he was undecided on a Week 12 starter. Since taking over for the injured Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) early in the first quarter of a Week 1 win over the Bills, Wilson completed just 59.2 percent of his passes for 6.1 yards per attempt, six touchdowns and seven interceptions, and he also lost five fumbles. Boyle doesn't have much of a previous track record of success at the NFL level and will presumably be on a short leash, but even if Boyle ends up being pulled from the starting job at some point, the Jets could still look to turn to a free agent or a member of another team's practice squad rather than giving Wilson another look.
Nov 19, 2023
Benched Sunday, Week 12 starter TBD
Coach Robert Saleh said after Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Bills that he's undecided on whether Wilson will start in Week 12 against the Dolphins on Friday. Wilson was benched in the second half Sunday after completing seven of 15 passes for 81 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed four times for 15 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was replaced by Tim Boyle, who wasn't any better. Boyle completed seven of 14 passes for 33 yards and one interception. The Jets have lost three consecutive games following a three-game winning streak to fall to 4-6. Boyle's poor play after replacing Wilson may have opened the door for Wilson to remain under center at home against the Dolphins on Friday, with an announcement on an official starter likely to come during the week.
Nov 13, 2023
Will remain starting QB
Coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson will remain the Jets' starting quarterback, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Saleh reiterated that offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will also continue to call the offensive plays. Wilson has been dreadful this season, checking in at 31st in completion percentage (59.8 percent), 30th in touchdown throws (five) and 29th in yards per attempt (6.1), while the Jets have been downright bad on third downs. The Jets don't seem willing to give Tim Boyle any starts and are going to keep riding it out with Wilson despite just one offensive touchdown over their last three games.
Nov 12, 2023
Another game without a TD
Wilson completed 23 of 39 passes for 263 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 16-12 loss to Vegas. He added four rushing attempts for 54 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson looked like he had scored a rushing touchdown in the second quarter, but he stepped out of bounds at the three-yard line before diving to the pylon, and the Jets wound up settling for a field goal on that drive. That was one of four field goals that accounted for all of New York's points, as the Jets failed to score a touchdown for the second consecutive game. Wilson got New York's penultimate drive to Vegas' 20-yard line before throwing an interception with 1:22 remaining, and his pair of Hail Mary attempts at the end of the game both fell incomplete. With Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) over a month from returning even in the best-case scenario, the 4-5 Jets will likely stick with the struggling Wilson in Week 11 against the Bills.

No TDs in ugly loss
Wilson completed 33 of 49 passes for 263 yards without a touchdown or interception in Monday's 27-6 loss to the Chargers. He added two rushing attempts for seven yards and fumbled three times, losing two.
ANALYSIS
Wilson struggled but didn't get any help from the rest of New York's offense, which has produced just three touchdowns in the last four games. He was sacked eight times behind an unsuccessfully rejiggered offensive line, and numerous drops and penalties didn't help matters. While a significant chunk of Wilson's yardage came with the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, he should have at least had a late touchdown, but C.J. Uzomah dropped a ball that hit him in the chest in the end zone. Coming off this hollow season high in passing yards, Wilson will bring a 5:5 TD:INT into a Week 10 road game in Vegas.

Leads late comeback in OT win
Wilson completed 17 of 36 passes for 240 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 13-10 overtime win over the Giants. He added four rushing attempts for 25 yards and lost two fumbles.
ANALYSIS
Wilson fumbled on the opening drive, leading to a Giants field goal, and after the Jets lost their top two centers to injuries in the first half, his first exchange with third-stringer Xavier Newman led to a fumbled snap. In between those two Wilson fumbles, Breece Hall turned a check down into a 50-yard touchdown. The Jets started 0-for-12 on third down before Wilson finally converted a 3rd-and-11 with a 17-yard run just before the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter, but things looked bleak after that possession ended on a fourth-down sack. Wilson came alive after the Jets got the ball back with 24 seconds left in regulation, completing back-to-back 29-yard passes to set up a game-tying field goal before helping draw a 30-yard pass interference penalty to set up the game-winning field goal in overtime. It hasn't been pretty, but Wilson and the Jets have won three straight to improve to 4-3 heading into a Week 9 MNF visit from the Chargers.

Manages team to win over Philly
Wilson completed 19 of 33 passes for 186 yards, without a touchdown or turnover in Sunday's 20-14 win over the Eagles. He added four rushing attempts for 15 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson came up short of 200 passing yards for the fifth time in six games, but he led New York to a second consecutive victory by avoiding costly turnovers while Jalen Hurts threw three interceptions. Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) was seen throwing a football and walking without crutches, but his return likely remains months away, and Wilson is locked in as the Jets' starter in Rodgers' absence. Wilson will try for a third consecutive win in Week 8 against the Giants after a Week 7 bye.
Oct 8, 2023
No touchdowns Sunday
Wilson completed 19 of 26 pass attempts for 199 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while rushing three times for 26 yards in Sunday's 31-21 win over Denver.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was not involved in either of the Jets' trips to the end zone Sunday, as the team scored via Breece Hall's rushing touchdown and cornerback Bryce Hall's defensive touchdown. The quarterback's lone turnover came on a forced throw to tight end C.J. Uzomah near the end of the first half. He also fumbled twice, but did not lose possession on either gaff. Luckily for Wilson, the Broncos offense continues to be inept and the ill-timed pick did not cost his team its second win. The 24-year-old won't be afforded as many mulligans next Sunday against an Eagles defense that ranks near the top of the league through five weeks.
Oct 2, 2023
Shows life in close loss
Wilson completed 28 of his 39 pass attempts for 245 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while gaining 14 yards on two carries in Sunday's 23-20 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Wilson struggled to complete half of his passing attempts through three appearances this season (52 percent entering Sunday), so expectations against the reigning Super Bowl Champions were understandably low. The 2021 second-overall pick responded with one of the cleaner passing performances we've seen him deliver to date. It would take more than one solid outing from the BYU product to undo the past two seasons of mediocrity, but it was an encouraging effort on the national stage against a legitimate contender. If Wilson can string together a couple more positive games, then we could start seeing him discussed as a potential option in fantasy circles. His next opportunity to do so comes against Denver next Sunday.
Sep 24, 2023
Struggles continue in Week 3 loss
Wilson completed 18 of 36 passes for 157 yards while rushing once for one yard in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Wilson threw for only 29 yards in the first half as the Jets took a 10-3 deficit into the locker room. He came alive with 79 passing yards on a fourth-quarter touchdown drive capped by a one-yard Nick Bawden touchdown run, but Wilson failed to produce a first down on New York's next two possessions. He got one last chance as the Jets got the ball with 16 seconds left, and Wilson almost pulled off the miracle comeback, as his Hail Mary on the final play bounced off Randall Cobb's hand after a 29-yard pass to Garrett Wilson and spike. Wilson showed some flashes of potential with the Jets in desperation mode in the fourth quarter, but he was putrid before then. Despite Wilson's struggles, coach Robert Saleh said after the game that the 2021 second overall draft pick will remain the starting quarterback in Week 4 against the Chiefs, per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
Sep 17, 2023
Tough day in Dallas
Wilson completed 12 of 27 passes for 170 yards and one touchdown with three interceptions in Sunday's 30-10 loss to the Cowboys. He added 36 rushing yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
The third-year QB actually led the Jets in rushing, as the Dallas defense put together another dominant performance. Wilson's numbers in the first half were fairly solid, highlighted by a 68-yard TD pass to Garrett Wilson (undisclosed) in the second quarter, but all three of his INTs came on New York's final three drives as he tried to make something happen to bring his team back from a 17-point deficit. Wilson faces another potentially tough matchup in Week 3 against the Patriots.
Sep 12, 2023
Named starting QB moving forward
Coach Robert Saleh reiterated Tuesday that Wilson is the Jets' starting quarterback moving forward after the team confirmed Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles during Monday's overtime win versus the Bills, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After taking over for Rodgers on New York's fifth offensive snap of the game, Wilson played the final 50 en route to 140 yards passing, one touchdown and one interception. Wilson also had four carries for six yards and was sacked twice for minus-13 yards. For the foreseeable future, he'll get to work with RBs Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook and WRs Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard, but Saleh noted Tuesday that the Jets will add another quarterback at some point to room that currently includes only a healthy practice-squad member in Tim Boyle behind Zach Wilson.
Sep 12, 2023
Taking over for Rodgers
Wilson will direct the Jets offense Sunday in Dallas and beyond after the team confirmed that Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles during Monday's overtime win against the Bills, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodgers lasted just four plays before being lost for the season. Wilson then took over New York's offense and put together an uneven performance that included 140 yards passing, one touchdown and one interception on 67 percent passing, four carries for six yards and two sacks taken for 13 yards lost. Coach Robert Saleh and company will move forward with Wilson at quarterback, but the potential exists for the team to bring in a veteran option as soon as this week to bolster the QB room. Currently, Tim Boyle is the only other healthy signal-caller on the Jets, and he's situated on the practice squad.
Sep 11, 2023
Set to start rest of season
Coach Robert Saleh said Wilson will "be the guy" under center for the Jets for the rest of the season after Aaron Rodgers likely suffered an Achilles injury during Monday's 22-16 overtime win versus the Bills, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson stepped in for Rodgers on the Jets' fifth offensive play after the latter left the game. Wilson had his usual struggles, completing 14 of 21 passes for 140 yards, one touchdown and one interception, rushing four times for six yards and getting sacked twice for a loss of 13 yards. The TD connection with Garrett Wilson with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter tied the contest at 13-all, and the third-year quarterback didn't need to take a snap in overtime due to Xavier Gipson's 65-yard punt return for the game-winning score. Moving forward, Zach Wilson will have plenty of skill-position talent to work with in Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, Dalvin Cook and Allen Lazard, among others.
Aug 19, 2023
Solid in another start
Wilson completed nine of 13 passes for 70 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed twice for 41 yards in the Jets' 13-6 preseason loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Aaron Rodgers once again got the night off, so Wilson's busy preseason continued with another respectable showing. Unlike last week's shutout win over the Panthers, Wilson wasn't able to get the Jets into the end zone, but he had an impact play with a 35 yard-run and remained free of turnovers. The third-year signal-caller appears to have settled in nicely after his abrupt demotion this offseason and may get one final chance to tune up for his No. 2 role behind Rodgers when the Jets face off with the Giants in next Saturday night's exhibition finale.
Aug 17, 2023
Draws another preseason start
Wilson is slated to start Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As was the case in last weekend's contest against the Panthers, Wilson will be followed by Tim Boyle, while top QB Aaron Rodgers won't play. As for the Jets' Aug. 26 exhibition finale against the Giants, coach Robert Saleh noted that he has yet to decide if Rodgers will see action.
Aug 12, 2023
Solid showing in Saturday's win
Wilson completed 14 of 20 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 27-0 win over Carolina. He added one rushing attempt for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson delivered a decent performance while playing the entire first half. He spent the first two drives surrounded by the majority of New York's starters, with the notable exceptions of top wide receiver Garrett Wilson (ankle) and running back Breece Hall (knee). Wilson's touchdown pass came in the final seconds of the first half, as he found reserve tight end Kenny Yeboah from two yards out. The 24-year-old quarterback figures to see plenty of action over the Jets' two remaining preseason games before settling in as the backup to offseason addition Aaron Rodgers come the regular season.
Aug 10, 2023
Getting another preseason start
Wilson will start Saturday's preseason game in Carolina, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson also started the Jets' preseason opener against the Browns, in which he completed three of five passes for 65 yards. Veteran Aaron Rodgers reportedly won't be in consideration to take the field until New York's preseason finale, so Wilson should continue to see action ahead of third-stringer Tim Boyle. Coach Robert Saleh declined to confirm whether the starting offense will see the field versus the Panthers.
Aug 3, 2023
Looks sharp in first action
Wilson completed three of five passes for 65 yards in the Jets' 21-16 preseason loss to the Browns in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was the first quarterback in with Aaron Rodgers getting the night off, and matters didn't get off on the right foot when he took a sack on the second play of the game. However, the 2021 first-round pick rebounded on his second possession with a 57-yard completion to Malik Taylor from his own seven-yard line to help set up a Greg Zuerlein field goal. Wilson was in for one more drive, which also culminated in three points off the foot of Zuerlein, before giving way to Tim Boyle. With the Jets having an extra preseason game to work with this summer, Wilson could well start in place of an idle Rodgers again in New York's road preseason battle versus the Panthers a week from Saturday.
Aug 1, 2023
In line to start Thursday
Wilson is slated to draw the start at QB in Thursday's Hall of Fame game against the Browns, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Robert Saleh noted that it has yet to be determined how much Wilson will play in the team's exhibition opener. In any case, the 2021 first-rounder is slated to spend the coming season backing up veteran newcomer Aaron Rodgers, with Tim Boyle and Chris Streveler also in the Jets' depth signal-caller mix.
Jul 30, 2023
Will play Thursday
Head coach Robert Saleh said Wilson will play during Thursday's Hall of Fame preseason game, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Saleh said he doesn't expect the starters to play at all during Thursday's game, so Wilson, who's expected to be the primary backup to Aaron Rodgers in 2023, figures to get an extended look. Tim Boyle and Chris Streveler will presumably get worked into the mix, as well.
Apr 25, 2023
Likely staying in NY as backup
The Jets plan to keep Wilson around in a backup role after trading for Aaron Rodgers on Monday, ESPN.com's Rich Cimini reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Wilson and Rodgers have become friends, and the Jets hope they can still salvage something from the No. 2 overall pick down the line in 2024 or 2025. Wilson has completed 55.2 percent of his passes for 6.4 YPA as a pro, showing no real progress last season as he was benched for poor performance on two occasions. With Rodgers set to start in New York for the next year or two, the 23-year-old Wilson drops down the depth chart and may even face a challenge from Tim Boyle for the No. 2 QB job.
Jan 9, 2023
Wraps up poor sophomore season
Wilson finished his second season with 1,688 passing yards and a 6:7 TD:INT in nine starts. He added 102 yards and one touchdown on 28 rushing attempts, in addition to catching a two-yard touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Wilson didn't show much progress from his forgettable rookie season, but the team around him improved substantially, allowing Wilson to post a 5-4 record in 2022 after opening his career with a 3-10 record. The second player selected in the 2021 NFL Draft will likely remain on the Jets' roster in 2023, but Wilson won't be handed the starting role and will probably come into camp as the backup. New York's expected to add an alternative under center, either by re-signing Mike White or pursuing a veteran starter via trade or free agency.
Jan 6, 2023
Active for Week 18
Wilson will serve as the backup quarterback to Joe Flacco in Week 18 versus the Dolphins, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
After initially being ruled as a healthy inactive for Sunday's matchup with Miami, Wilson will now serve as the number two option behind Joe Flacco in wake of Mike White (ribs) being ruled out for the contest Friday. Wilson will at least get to suit up one final time this season before the Jets will likely reevaluate his future with the franchise in the offseason.
Jan 4, 2023
Won't suit up Week 18
Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Wednesday that Wilson will remain a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though the Jets were eliminated from playoff contention with their 23-6 loss to Seattle this past weekend, Saleh won't use a mostly meaningless season finale as an opportunity to get another look at Wilson, as Mike White will make a second straight start while Joe Flacco dresses as the backup quarterback. Though Wilson will be in street clothes for the second consecutive week to close out the season, Saleh reiterated that the organization remains committed to maximizing the No. 2 overall pick's potential, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. The Jets' offseason moves at the quarterback position will likely dictate whether that's in fact the case after Wilson wrapped up a disappointing sophomore season with a 54.5 percent completion rate for 7.0 yards per attempt and a 6:7 TD:INT over his nine appearances.
Dec 26, 2022
Will be healthy inactive Week 17
Head coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson will be a healthy inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
ANALYSIS
Mike White (ribs) was cleared for contract earlier Monday and is in line to reclaim the starting gig, so Saleh is opting to have the veteran Joe Flacco operate as the primary backup to White, sending Wilson to the inactive list again. Even if White wasn't cleared, it's possible Wilson would've ceded to the starting job to Flacco or Chris Streveler after back-to-back bad outings. Despite Wilson's struggles this year, Saleh remains confident in the 2021 first-round pick, saying the young quarterback is still a huge part of the Jets' future, per Brian Costello of the New York Post.
Dec 26, 2022
Bound for bench
Wilson is set to return to a reserve role Sunday in Seattle after Mike White (ribs) received clearance from doctors to start the Week 17 contest, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Even if White was forced to miss his third straight game in Week 17 while recovering from broken ribs, Wilson might have ceded the starting job to either Chris Streveler or Joe Flacco following a pair of poor showings in his return from a three-game benching. Between losses to the Lions and Jaguars in Week 15 and Week 16, respectively, Wilson completed just 27 of 53 pass attempts (50.9 percent) for 409 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while taking seven sacks. Streveler came on to replace the struggling Wilson in relief during the loss to Jacksonville last Thursday and performed marginally better, so it's possible head coach Robert Saleh turns to Streveler or Flacco rather than Wilson to serve as White's primary understudy in Week 17 while the 7-8 Jets attempt to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.
Dec 23, 2022
Coach non-committal on future
Coach Robert Saleh didn't commit to Wilson starting even if Mike White (ribs) remains sidelined moving forward, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
"We've got time," Saleh said when asked about New York's quarterback situation. "I don't have those answers for you yet." Wilson failed to break triple digits in passing yards Thursday before exiting to a chorus of boos in the third quarter as the Jets turned to the Taysom Hill-like Chris Streveler in an effort to spark the offense. Despite the 19-3 loss to Jacksonville, the Jets remain mathematically alive for a playoff spot, and letting Wilson learn on the fly may not give the team much of a chance to win Jan. 1 in Seattle.
Dec 22, 2022
Benched in Week 16 loss
Wilson completed nine of 18 passes for 92 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Jets' 19-3 loss to the Jaguars on Thursday night. He also rushed once for one yard and threw his last pass with 5:33 remaining in the third quarter before being benched for Chris Streveler due to ineffectiveness.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had a chance to redeem himself in what was a second straight start for Mike White (ribs), but as his numbers indicate, that didn't come to fruition. The Jets immediately looked sluggish under the embattled second-year signal-caller, losing three yards on four plays on their first possession after taking over at the Jaguars' 18-yard line following a fumble recovery. New York then netted just 49 yards on 14 plays over the next three possessions and Wilson then threw an interception on the subsequent drive. Back-to-back three-and-outs to start the second half then served as the tipping point for head coach Robert Saleh, who pulled Wilson at that point. With New York not returning to action until a week from Sunday in a critical Week 17 road matchup against the Seahawks, White should be healthy enough to suit up for that contest.
Dec 20, 2022
Set for another start
Wilson will start Thursday's game against the Jaguars with Mike White (ribs) ruled out, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson will get a chance to audition in primetime as the Jets' playoff hopes hang in the balance, making Thursday's contest a potentially pivotal moment for the 2021 first-round pick's future with the team. The second-year pro threw for 317 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in last week's loss to the Lions, but he also missed a number of open throws. Per Brian Costello of the New York Post, Saleh said White will be evaluated on a weekly basis, so it's still too early to definitively say who New York's starter will be Jan. 01 versus the Seahawks.
Dec 19, 2022
Likely starter Thursday
Wilson's likely to start Thursday against the Jaguars, as fellow quarterback Mike White (ribs) has yet to be cleared for contact, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson threw for 317 yards while filling in for White in Week 15, but the Jets lost 20-17 to the Lions as Wilson missed multiple easy throws against the vulnerable Detroit secondary. Thursday's game is basically a must-win for the 7-7 Jets, so White would likely play in the unlikely scenario that he gets medical clearance in the next few days.
Dec 18, 2022
Tops 300 yards in Week 15 loss
Wilson completed 18 of 35 passes for 317 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Lions. He added three rushing attempts for seven yards.
ANALYSIS
After a quiet first quarter, Wilson produced consecutive big plays through the air to open the second, finding Garrett Wilson for a 33-yard gain before tossing a 40-yard touchdown to C.J. Uzomah to tie the score at seven. Later in the second quarter, Wilson uncorked a 50-yard deep ball to Jeff Smith to set up a field goal to end the first half. The second-year quarterback finished the first half with 185 passing yards and no turnovers, but he was picked off on the first possession after halftime on an ill-advised sideline throw. Wilson bounced back with a one-yard touchdown pass to Uzomah to give New York a 17-13 lead with 4:41 to go in the fourth quarter. Detroit retook the lead with 1:49 remaining, and while Wilson gave his team a chance with a 20-yard pass to Elijah Moore on 4th and 18 with one second left, Greg Zuerlein missed a 58-yard field-goal attempt to drop the Jets to 7-7. New York plays again in just four days, which doesn't give Mike White (ribs) much time to recover from the injury that kept him
Dec 18, 2022
Could get two-game starting run
Wilson, who will start Sunday's game against the Lions, also appears likely to direct the Jets offense in the team's Week 16 game against the Jaguars on Thursday with Mike White (ribs) not expected to be available, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
White was already ruled out in advance of the Week 15 game Friday, when he wasn't cleared to take contact after being diagnosed with three rib fractures in the aftermath of last Sunday's loss to the Bills, according to Rapoport. Due to the quick turnaround for the Week 16 contest, White faces an uphill battle to make it back for that game, so the Jets are prepared to give Wilson another trial as their starter. Before being benched for the past three games and serving as a healthy inactive behind White and Joe Flacco, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 Draft completed just 55.6 percent of his attempts for 1,279 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions while carrying 24 times for 94 yards and a score in his previous seven starts this season.
Dec 16, 2022
Set to start Sunday
Wilson will start Sunday's game against the Lions after Mike White (ribs) was ruled out, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who was a healthy scratch the past three games, was named the Jets' No. 2 quarterback over Joe Flacco earlier this week and will immediately step in as the starter since White hasn't been cleared for full contact. In seven starts this season Wilson has completed 56 percent of his passes for 1,279 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions, and he also has 24 carries for 94 yards and another score.
Dec 14, 2022
Confirmed as No. 2 quarterback
Head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that Wilson will replace Joe Flacco as the Jets' backup quarterback behind starter Mike White (ribs) in Sunday's game against the Lions, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Wilson isn't poised to recapture the starting role just yet, he'll at least be on track to dress this weekend after he was inactive for the past three weeks as New York's No. 3 quarterback. White is slated to begin Week 15 prep as a limited participant due to the rib issue that twice caused him to exit in last Sunday's loss to Buffalo, but Saleh noted that the Jets are preparing as though White will be ready to start against Detroit, barring any setbacks, per Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, Saleh said he views the Jets' quarterback situation as a week-to-week situation, so it's conceivable that another injury or poor performance on White's part could reopen the door for Wilson to start again before season's end.
Dec 13, 2022
May leapfrog Flacco on depth chart
Jets head coach Robert Saleh suggested that Wilson could be active over Joe Flacco as the team's No. 2 quarterback Sunday against the Lions, assuming Mike White (ribs) is able to start, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
After exiting on two occasions in Sunday's 20-12 loss to the Bills, White visited a Buffalo-area hospital following the game as a precaution before flying back to New York City. White's medical tests didn't reveal anything overly concerning, so the Jets are tentatively labeling him as day-to-day with the expectation that he'll be ready to play this Sunday. Flacco has dressed as White's backup for the past three games since Wilson was removed as the team's starter, but the veteran signal-caller wasn't impressive in spot duty against the Bills, completing one of three pass attempts for one yard while also losing a fumble. Saleh has previously said he intends to get Wilson back on the field before season's end, and installing him as the top backup would be one way for him to potentially get some reps if White suffers another in-game injury.
Dec 5, 2022
Will be inactive Week 14
Head coach Robert Saleh said Wilson will be a healthy inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Bills, Ethan B. Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mike White will draw a third straight start, and Joe Flacco will operate as the backup, leaving Wilson out of the mix again. Saleh added that the plan is for Wilson to get back on the field at some point this season, but the Jets don't appear to be in a hurry to make that move, especially if White continues to play at a high level.
Dec 4, 2022
Inactive for Week 13
Wilson is inactive for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
With Wilson still out of the mix Sunday, Mike White -- who turned in a strong effort in the Jets' 31-10 win over the Bears in Week 12 -- will draw another start at QB, with Joe Flacco slated to handle backup duties. Wilson does figure to re-enter the team's starting equation down the road, though at this stage there's no timetable for such a potential transition back to the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Nov 23, 2022
Won't start in Week 12
Mike White will start in place of Wilson this Sunday against the Bears, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Allen, Joe Flacco is slated to serve as White's backup Sunday, while Wilson will not be active. It remains to be seen what the Jets' QB plan is beyond Week 12, with coach Robert Saleh noting that the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft "needs a re-set," per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, while adding that the young signal-caller is still viewed as as the future of the franchise.
Nov 23, 2022
Reportedly not starting Sunday
Wilson is not slated to start Sunday's game against the Bears, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Robert Saleh was non-committal earlier this week on whether Wilson would start the contest, but according to Schefter, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is being benched this weekend. At this stage, it's unclear whether Mike White or Joe Flacco is in line to draw the start versus Chicago, with Al Iannazzone of Newsday relaying that Saleh is scheduled to address the media Wednesday.
Nov 21, 2022
Week 12 starting QB TBD
Coach Robert Saleh was non-committal Monday on whether Wilson will start this Sunday's game against the Bears, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Cimini, the Jets plan to evaluate their QB situation in the coming days, with different scenarios potentially on the table. With that in mind, it's unclear whether the team would turn to Mike White or Joe Flacco if Saleh decides to replace Wilson this weekend, but either way this is a situation to monitor closely in the coming days.
Nov 20, 2022
Struggles in loss to New England
Wilson completed nine of 22 passes for 77 yards and rushed three times for 26 yards in Sunday's 10-3 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
After completing only one of his first six passes for six yards, Wilson uncorked a 34-yard moonball down the sideline to Denzel Mims, which set up a game-tying field goal in the second quarter. He got no help from the running game in the first half, as Jets running backs combined for 10 yards on nine rushing attempts while Wilson himself had 26 yards on three scrambles. New York's ground game stayed quiet after halftime while Wilson failed to make an impact with either his arms or his legs -- the Jets picked up just two first downs in the second half in a game that was decided by a Patriots punt return touchdown in the final seconds. Wilson will look to shake off this disastrous performance in Week 12 against a far less stout Bears defense.
Nov 6, 2022
Does enough to beat Bills
Wilson completed 18 of 25 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-17 win over Buffalo. He added 24 yards on five rushing attempts and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Wilson stayed down after taking a big hit in the first quarter and was checked out in the medical tent for what Rich Cimini of ESPN reports was an ankle injury, but he returned for New York's next possession after the Jets kicked a field goal. He fumbled in Buffalo territory in the third but bounced back on the ensuing drive with a go-ahead seven-yard touchdown pass to James Robinson. Much of the credit for this victory goes to a Jets secondary that picked off Josh Allen twice and held Buffalo to 17 points, but Wilson played his part in improving the team's record to 6-3 heading into the Week 10 bye, including a 5-1 mark in games started by the second-year quarterback.
Oct 30, 2022
INTs overshadow 355-yard outing
Wilson completed 20 of 41 passes for 355 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Patriots. He added two rushing yards on one attempt.
ANALYSIS
Wilson set up a first-quarter field goal with a 54-yard deep ball to Garrett Wilson, then gave New York a 10-3 lead in the second with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Conklin. He threw a costly interception with New York driving in the final minute of the first half, as that play coupled with a Jets pick-six erased by a shoddy penalty call allowed New England to cut New York's lead to 10-6 heading into halftime. Wilson was intercepted two more times in the second half as the Patriots began to pull away from the demoralized Jets, and his nine-yard touchdown pass to Conklin late in the fourth was too little too late. It was encouraging to see Wilson throw for a season-high 355 yards after totaling 231 yards over the previous two games, but he'll need to cut down on the turnovers to give his team a chance in Week 9 against the AFC East-leading Bills.

No TDs in Week 7 win
Wilson completed 16 of 26 passes for 121 yards and rushed four times for 24 yards in Sunday's 16-9 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was stymied by the elite Broncos secondary but avoided turnovers as the defense and running game led the Jets to a fourth consecutive win. Breece Hall scored New York's only touchdown on a 62-yard run before exiting with what's believed to be a torn ACL. If Hall indeed suffered a season-ending injury, Wilson and the passing game will likely have to shoulder a heavier load moving forward, starting against the Patriots in Week 8.
Oct 16, 2022
Quiet in win
Wilson completed 10 of 18 passes for 110 yards in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had a long gain of 41 yards to Corey Davis during the second half, but he overall made a limited impact, posting comfortably his lowest yardage while not scoring for the first time this season. However, in avoiding any turnovers, Wilson still did enough to help the Jets earn an unlikely road victory. With a perfect record in his three games since returning from injury, Wilson will look to keep New York's momentum going while contributing more himself in Week 7 versus Denver.
Oct 9, 2022
Scores one of NY's five rushing TDs
Wilson completed 14 of 21 passes for 210 yards while adding two yards and a touchdown on four rushing attempts in Sunday's 40-17 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's 79-yard pass to Breece Hall on the final play of the first quarter set up a one-yard Michael Carter rushing touchdown to open the second, and the quarterback ran one in himself from five yards out later in the first half. New York went on to add three more rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Wilson's mistake-free performance allowed the Jets to pull away in a game they led wire to wire. Between Hall and Carter in the backfield and the wide receiver trio of Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis and Elijah Moore, the Jets have surrounded their second-year quarterback with weapons, and Wilson has responded by winning his first two starts of the season since returning from a preseason knee injury. He'll look to extend that winning streak in Week 6 against the Packers.
Oct 6, 2022
Puts in full practice
Wilson (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's ability to take every rep during Thursday's session clears up any concern about his status for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, not that there was much concern to begin with. According to Eric Allen of the Jets' official site, offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur suggested Wilson's limitations in Wednesday's practice were precautionary, and the quarterback's return to full activity the next day backed that up. More importantly, Wilson isn't dealing with any setbacks with the knee he had scoped in mid-August, resulting in him missing the Jets' first three games. He completed only 50 percent of his passes last week in his season debut against the Steelers, but Wilson looked comfortable moving about and showed poise while engineering a game-winning touchdown drive in the final minute.
Oct 5, 2022
Set for limited practice
Coach Robert Saleh indicated that Wilson (ankle) will be limited at practice Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, Saleh noted that the Jets' starting QB is "fine," which suggests that Wilson is not in danger of missing Sunday's game against the Dolphins, barring any setbacks. On the plus side, it appears as though the meniscus issue that caused Wilson to miss the Jets' first three games is no longer a concern.
Oct 2, 2022
Catches, throws TDs in season debut
Wilson completed 18 of 36 passes for 252 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 24-20 win over Pittsburgh. He added 15 rushing yards on two attempts and a two-yard touchdown catch.
ANALYSIS
Just as we all predicted, Wilson caught a touchdown before throwing one, as he secured a two-yard touchdown pass from Braxton Berrios on a trick play to give New York a 10-0 lead in the second quarter. Wilson cost the Jets a chance at points just before halftime, though, as he threw a third-down interception with New York in field-goal range. His third-quarter interception set up a go-ahead Steelers touchdown , but Wilson made amends with a five-yard touchdown pass to Corey Davis in the fourth to cut the Jets' deficit to 20-17. Wilson then led a game-winning drive capped by a Breece Hall rushing touchdown in the final minute. The second-year quarterback would like to cut down on the errors moving forward, but the win will give him and the Jets some momentum heading into a Week 5 home game against the Dolphins.
Sep 28, 2022
Says he's 100 percent
Wilson (knee) was a full practice participant Wednesday and said he's "100 percent ready" to play this Sunday in Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Wilson will reclaim his role as the starting QB while Joe Flacco shifts back to the bench after a three-week stint marked by tons of volume (a league-high 155 pass attempts) and replacement-level efficiency (5.8 YPA, 58.7 completion percentage). The Jets obviously hope to run more, and they'll presumably do that with a more mobile QB under center if they can break the trend of falling behind by multiple scores in the first half each week. Wilson has all his key pass catchers healthy for his first start of the year, but the Jets' top three offensive tackles are on injured reserve.
Sep 28, 2022
In line to start Sunday
Coach Robert Saleh relayed Wednesday that Wilson (knee) has been medically cleared and if all goes well this week the QB will start Sunday's game against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
With that, Wilson -- who is bouncing back from a meniscus injury and bone bruise in his knee -- is on track to return to the Jets' lineup this weekend barring any setbacks, after missing the team's first three games. Joe Flacco, who had been filling in for Wilson, is thus set to return to working as New York's No. 2 signal caller in Week 4.
Sep 26, 2022
Coach expects Week 4 return
Coach Robert Saleh said the team expects Wilson (knee) to make his season debut in Week 4 against the Steelers, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
New York's team doctors will have the final say, but Saleh expects Wilson to be cleared and available in Pittsburgh. The team has had a Week 4 return date circled since the beginning of the regular season, and Joe Flacco's four turnovers in Week 3 showed that the veteran's no threat to Wilson's starting job once the second-year quarterback's healthy.
Sep 25, 2022
Trending toward Week 4 return
Wilson, who continues to progress in his recovery from a meniscus injury and bone bruise in his knee, is expected to be cleared by doctors next week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
If that's the case, the QB -- who is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bengals -- would presumably be on track to return to action in Week 4 against the Steelers. In Wilson's ongoing absence, Joe Flacco is slated to continue filling in as the Jets' starting signal caller.
Sep 19, 2022
Ramping up, but won't play Week 3
Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed that Wilson (knee) won't be available to play Sunday against the Bengals, but the quarterback will slightly ramp up his activities in practice this week, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Joe Flacco will pick up a third consecutive start this weekend in Wilson's stead after the veteran helped lead the Jets to a thrilling 31-30 come-from-behind victory over the Browns in Week 2. Though Saleh wouldn't say definitively that Wilson will be ready to return to the lineup to start Week 4 against the Steelers, the coach noted that the second-year signal-caller is "progressing well" in his recovery from the arthroscopic right knee procedure he required Aug. 16.
Sep 19, 2022
Staying sidelined Week 3
Wilson (knee) is not in contention to play Week 3 versus the Bengals, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jets continue to take a cautious approach to Wilson's recovery, one that reportedly won't involve rushing him back on the field until he's back in full form. Wilson's earliest possible return date is expected to be Oct. 02 versus the Steelers. Joe Flacco is fresh off orchestrating a four-touchdown, 307-yard comeback win over the Browns, and he stands to remain New York's starter until Wilson is back to 100 percent.
Sep 14, 2022
Flacco to draw another start
Joe Flacco will continue to fill in as the Jets' starting QB on Sunday against the Browns, with Wilson still working his way back from an Aug. 16 arthroscopic knee procedure, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Robert Saleh noted last week that Wilson wouldn't be in line to start again before Week 4, but the QB did at least get in what Cimini described as very light work during Wednesday's practice. With Flacco remaining the team's starter in Week 2, Mike White is in line to continue to work as the team's backup this weekend versus Cleveland.
Sep 12, 2022
Won't do team work this week
Wilson (knee) will work with receivers in individual drills ahead of Week 2, but he won't do any full-team drills, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had an outside shot at playing Week 1, but after he was ruled out, the team said he likely won't suit up until at least Week 4. It's an encouraging sign to see the young quarterback returning to practice, but he likely still has a long rehab ahead of him. Joe Flacco drew the start in the season-opening loss to the Ravens, and coach Robert Saleh said the veteran would "more than likely" start again in Week 2 with Wilson sidelined.
Sep 7, 2022
Not in line to start until Week 4
Coach Robert Saleh relayed Wednesday that Wilson (knee) is not expected to be available to start until Week 4 versus the Steelers, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
In the meantime, Joe Flacco is slated to start at QB for the Jets early on this season, beginning with Sunday's season opener against the Ravens. Per Saleh, Wilson won't go on IR, which will enable the signal-caller to log some practice time prior to his return to the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network notes that there haven't been any setbacks with Wilson, who is making progress, but at this stage it appears as though the team is simply erring on the side of caution with its young franchise QB.
Sep 5, 2022
Not ruled out for Week 1
Coach Robert Saleh said Monday that it's "possible" Wilson (knee) could start Week 1 versus the Ravens, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Saleh said a decision won't be made until Wilson's knee is evaluated at Wednesday's practice, but it's encouraging to see that he went through a workout Monday. Per Cimini, the starting quarterback for Sunday's game against Baltimore will be announced Wednesday. Veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco is an option to line up under center Week 1 if Wilson isn't yet full recovered from a meniscus tear and bone bruise in his right knee.
Aug 25, 2022
Decision won't come until September
Coach Robert Saleh said he's comfortable waiting until the week of New York's season opener against the Ravens to name a starter between Wilson (knee) and Joe Flacco, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jets believe Wilson knows the offense well enough to jump into game action with just a week of preparation, but it's unclear if he'll have even that much before Week 1 as the second-year quarterback recovers from a meniscus tear and bone bruise in his knee. Flacco sits atop the quarterback depth chart while Wilson recovers, but Wilson will be reinserted as the starter as soon as he's deemed healthy enough to play.
Aug 24, 2022
No update on timeline
Coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that he couldn't provide an update on Wilson's timeline to come back from Aug. 16 arthroscopic knee surgery, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson hasn't been ruled out for the season opener against Baltimore, though he seems likely to miss at least one game with reports suggesting a timeline of 4-6 weeks. Joe Flacco is the Jets' top QB while Wilson recovers from the recent meniscus surgery.
Aug 19, 2022
Not ruled out for Week 1
Coach Robert Saleh isn't ready to rule Wilson (knee) out for New York's Sept. 11 season opener against the Ravens, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has a return timetable of 4-6 weeks after undergoing knee surgery to repair his meniscus on Aug. 16. It's widely assumed that Joe Flacco will get the Week 1 nod under center against the veteran's former team, but Wilson still has a chance to play if his recovery lands on the shorter end of the projected window. "If Zach is ready to play, he's going to be the Week 1 starter," Saleh said. "If he's not, Joe will. That's no secret."
Aug 16, 2022
Could return in 4-6 weeks
Wilson (knee) could return in four to six weeks after successful surgery Tuesday on his meniscus, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
While everything went according to plan with the surgery, prior timeline estimates of 2-4 weeks may not have accounted for the possibility of a severe bone bruise or the Jets' reported desire to take a cautious approach with their second-year quarterback. Howe says it's "not entirely out of the question that Wilson could operate on accelerated timeline" and play Week 1, but it doesn't sound especially likely, with Adam Schefter of ESPN reporting that Joe Flacco is "in line to start the regular-season opener" against Baltimore.
Aug 16, 2022
Undergoes successful meniscus trim
Wilson's knee surgery was successful, with no surprises from the original diagnosis, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It sounds liked doctors were able to address his meniscus by trimming it rather than repairing it. That was the Jets' expectation, but there was some chance he'd need a repair, which might've put his 2022 season in jeopardy. Instead, Wilson could be looking at a timetable as short as 2-4 weeks, though Cimini notes that the Jets won't put him on the field until he's back to 100 percent. Connor Hughes of The Athletic supports the notion that Wilson is likely to return closer to the one-month mark than two weeks, while Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Joe Flacco is expected to start Week 1 against the Ravens.
Aug 14, 2022
Surgery scheduled for Tuesday
Wilson will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson suffered a bone bruise and a meniscus tear during Friday's preseason opener and will undergo a minor surgery. Initial reports suggested the second-year quarterback would miss 2-to-4 weeks, but Jets head coach Robert Saleh won't discuss a timetable until the procedure is finished. "We're optimistic," Saleh said. "But he's not out of the woods until they get in there and make the decision." In the meantime, expect Joe Flacco to take all the starting reps.
Aug 13, 2022
Out multiple weeks
Wilson suffered a bone bruise and a meniscus tear during Friday's preseason win which will require minor "trimming" surgery, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. He's expected to miss 2-4 weeks.
ANALYSIS
This is probably the best case scenario for the Jets considering the injury appeared to be far more serious after Wilson limped off the field from a non-contact knee injury. While a meniscus tear can have varying degrees of severity, it doesn't seem as if the 2021 No. 2 overall pick will miss significant time, and he could even be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Expect Joe Flacco to take all the starting reps in the meantime.
Aug 13, 2022
Reportedly suffers bone bruise
Wilson reportedly suffered a bone bruise during Friday's preseason win over the Eagles, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The news appeared to be dire immediately after Wilson limped to locker room Friday after going down due to a non-contact knee injury, but there seemed to be some growing optimism late in the evening that the second-year signal caller didn't suffer a major injury. This report would certainly seem to echo that statement, but it was also cushioned by the fact the Jets are reportedly doing additional tests to determine whether Wilson injured his meniscus during the aforementioned play. Expect the Jets to release more information as the weekend progresses.
Aug 10, 2022
Expected to work 1-2 series Friday
Wilson and the Jets' starting offense are in line to play one or two series in Friday's preseason opener against the Eagles, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record, after Wilson gets in his initial preseason game reps, Joe Flacco and Mike White are slated to be next in line (in that order) to take snaps at QB for the Jets on Friday.
Jul 29, 2022
Inconsistent start to camp
Wilson has been up and down early in training camp, Andy Vasquez of NJ.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson completed 10 of 13 passes during 11-on-11 drills, but he threw two interceptions to go with his trio of touchdown passes in the session. Two of the three touchdowns were caught by Corey Davis, and the third went to rookie first-round pick Garrett Wilson. Interceptions were an issue for Wilson early in his rookie season, but he didn't throw one over his final five starts after tossing 11 in his first eight. Taking care of the football will be a key part of Wilson's development in his second NFL season.
May 25, 2022
Added muscle in offseason
Wilson has raised his weight from 208 pounds to 221 by working with a nutritionist and chef in the offseason, and the second-year quarterback believes the added weight will help his athleticism, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.
ANALYSIS
The 6-foot-2 Wilson is on the smaller side for a quarterback, so he's hoping that putting on weight will help him avoid injuries without hampering the decent running ability he showcased en route to scoring four rushing touchdowns as a rookie. Between Wilson's dedication and New York's universally lauded draft class, the Jets have had an encouraging offseason, but that won't mean much until it leads to long-awaited positive results on the field.
May 1, 2022
Joined by namesake at WR
Wilson will be getting a prominent new target, as the Jets selected wide receiver Garrett Wilson 10th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
GM Joe Douglas has completely revamped New York's offense in just two offseasons. He signed Corey Davis before drafting Zach and Elijah Moore in 2021, then added Garrett (no relation) in the 2022 draft. The Jets also added veteran tight ends C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin, as well as rookie Jeremy Ruckert (third round) this offseason, plus second-round running back Breece Hall to complement 2021 fourth-rounder Michael Carter. Even if the Wilson-to-Wilson connection takes a while to take off, the recent influx of playmakers has put the 2021 second overall pick in position to succeed under center.
Jan 10, 2022
Shut down by Bills
Wilson completed seven of 20 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown and gained 24 yards on two carries in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
It was an awful end to Wilson's rookie season, as aside from a 40-yard TD toss to Keelan Cole in the second quarter, the QB has almost no success through the air. He finishes with a poor 9:11 TD:INT, 2,334 passing yards and a 55.6 percent completion rate through 13 games, but the Jets will continue to build around Wilson this offseason and hope he can take a very large step forward in 2022.
Jan 2, 2022
One TD, no turnovers in Week 17
Wilson completed 18 of 32 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-24 loss to Tampa Bay. He added two rushing attempts for no gain.
ANALYSIS
Wilson continued to take care of the ball, and he actually guided the Jets to a 24-10 lead in the third quarter before the Buccaneers stormed back. His touchdown came on a nine-yard pass to Braxton Berrios in the second quarter. Berrios also had a one-yard touchdown run, as did Ty Johnson. Wilson will bring an 8:11 TD:INT into the final start of his rookie season against Buffalo, though he's gone four consecutive games without an interception while working with an undermanned receiving corps of late.
Dec 26, 2021
Runs for 52-yard TD in win
Wilson completed 14 of 22 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown while rushing four times for 91 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Wilson made one of the most exciting plays of his young NFL career in the first quarter, tiptoeing the sideline and making a pair of Jaguars defenders miss to get the Jets on the board with a 52-yard touchdown run. He didn't get much going as a passer while throwing to a depleted receiving corps, and Wilson threw consecutive incompletions from Jacksonville's two-yard line to turn it over on downs just before halftime. Wilson redeemed himself on another 4th-and-goal opportunity in the fourth quarter, putting the Jets up 23-15 with a one-yard touchdown pass to offensive lineman Conor McDermott. The rookie second-overall pick's 7:11 TD:INT is nothing to write home about, but Wilson has been quietly effective with his legs, scoring four rushing touchdowns in his last five games. His banged-up receiving corps and up-and-down play will make Wilson tough to trust in Week 17 against the Buccaneers.
Dec 19, 2021
Stifled in second half of loss
Wilson completed 13 of 23 passes for 170 yards without a touchdown or interception in Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Dolphins. He added 12 yards and a touchdown on four rushing attempts and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has been plagued by slow starts this season, but that wasn't the case in this one, as he completed all five of his passes for 55 yards on the Jets' first drive, leading to a Braxton Berrios rushing touchdown. He built on that hot start and scored a one-yard rushing touchdown of his own in the second quarter, helping New York take a 17-10 lead into the locker room. New York's offense went dormant after halftime, however, with the Jets' only points of the second half coming on a pick-six by the defense. Wilson hasn't put together many complete performances in his rookie season, though injuries to the Jets' playmakers down the stretch haven't made things easy for him. Perhaps a Week 16 visit from the Jaguars will offer an opportunity for Wilson to find success despite his lack of weapons.
Dec 12, 2021
Inaccurate sans Davis, Moore
Wilson completed 19 of 42 passes for 202 yards while adding 33 rushing yards on four attempts in Sunday's 30-9 loss to the Saints. He didn't have a touchdown or turnover.
ANALYSIS
Wilson struggled mightily without top two wide receivers Corey Davis (groin) and Elijah Moore (quadriceps), both of whom are on IR. He didn't eclipse 100 passing yards until the Jets fell behind 23-6 in the fourth quarter. Wilson didn't get any help on the ground, either, finishing as the Jets' leading rusher in the game. Given the injury-riddled state of the team around him and his own inconsistent play, the rookie second-overall pick will be tough to trust in Week 15 against the hot Dolphins defense.
Dec 5, 2021
Three touchdowns in defeat
Wilson completed 23 of his 38 pass attempts for 226 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 33-18 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Wilson set new career-high marks in pass attempts and total touchdowns. Though he averaged only 5.9 yards per attempt, Wilson managed to connect for a pair of short touchdown throws coming from three and one yards away. He found the end zone on a third occasion on a quarterback sneak late in the first quarter to record the second rushing touchdown of his career. Though Wilson is still inconsistent and mistake-prone, he did manage to distribute the ball well to key playmakers on the team such as Elijah Moore and Jamison Crowder. Even after the loss, there were positives to take away from his performance heading into a Week 14 matchup against New Orleans.
Dec 1, 2021
Logs full practice Wednesday
Wilson (knee) practiced fully Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of his return to the lineup in this past Sunday's 21-14 win over the Texans, Wilson acknowledged that his right knee still isn't 100 percent, but added that he feels good enough to play. With a full practice under his belt Wednesday, the rookie QB is slated to start this weekend's home game against the 5-7 Eagles, who have allowed an average of 228.4 passing yards per game to date, while having surrendered 20 TDs through the air.
Nov 29, 2021
Should be fine for Week 13
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Wilson is expected to be a full participant in practice this week after he appeared to tweak his right knee in Sunday's 21-14 win over the Texans, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing the Jets' previous four games while recovering from a PCL sprain of his right knee, Wilson was cleared to reclaim the starting job Sunday after turning in a week of full practices beforehand. The time off didn't seem to help Wilson much from a performance standpoint, as he struggled to move the ball against a struggling Texans squad and finished the day with 14 completions for 145 yards and an interception on 24 attempts (6.0 YPA). He added three yards on two carries and scored a pivotal second-half goal-line touchdown, but he created some concern when he told reporters after the contest that he was still experiencing some instability in his right knee. Even so, the Jets don't appear concerned that Wilson suffered any sort of setback, so as long as he's back on the field as a full participant in the next few days as Saleh expects, the rookie signal-caller should be ready to go for the team's Week 13 matchup with the Eagles.
Nov 28, 2021
Struggles in victorious return
Wilson (knee) completed 14 of 24 passes for 145 yards and an interception in Sunday's 21-14 win over Houston. He added three yards and a touchdown on two rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Wilson struggled early in his first action since Week 7, throwing for just 11 yards in a first quarter that also included an interception on a shovel pass that bounced off Ty Johnson's back. To the rookie's credit, he didn't panic after the Jets fell into a 14-3 hole in the second quarter. Wilson led a touchdown drive capped by a two-yard Austin Walter touchdown run late in the first half, then took it in himself from four yards out in the third quarter, diving across the goal line on a play that suggested his PCL sprain is no longer an issue. With his second NFL win under his belt, Wilson will look to correct some of his lingering accuracy issues in Week 13 against the Eagles.
Nov 24, 2021
Officially named Week 12 starter
Head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Wednesday that Wilson (knee) will reclaim starting quarterback duties this weekend against the Texans, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though the Jets never officially confirmed Wilson as their Week 12 starter until the team resumed practicing Wednesday, multiple reports surfaced Tuesday indicating that the rookie received full medical clearance from the training staff following a four-game absence due to a PCL sprain of his right knee. Saleh made the matter official Wednesday, and the fact Wilson wasn't included on the Jets' initial Week 12 injury report implies that he was a full participant in the workout. At this stage, the bigger concern is the lack of available depth behind Wilson for Sunday's game, as Mike White -- who started Weeks 8 and through 10 -- and Joe Flacco -- who started in the Week 11 loss to the Dolphins -- were both placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday and are unlikely to be activated prior to the contest. The Jets plan to elevate Josh Johnson from the practice squad later this week to serve as Wilson's understudy this weekend.
Nov 23, 2021
Reclaiming starting role Week 12
Wilson (knee) has been fully cleared by the Jets' medical staff and is set to return to action as the team's starting quarterback Sunday against the Texans, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Jets head coach Robert Saleh won't officially name Wilson as the team's Week 12 starter until he meets with the media Wednesday, but the rookie's reappointment atop the depth chart is a foregone conclusion, especially after his competition for the gig -- Mike White and Joe Flacco -- both landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday. Flacco's status as an unvaccinated player means he'll automatically be out for the next 10 days, while White tested positive for the virus and seems unlikely to clear all the necessary protocols prior to Sunday. With that in mind, the Jets are expected to promote Josh Johnson from the practice squad to serve as the Week 12 backup behind Wilson, who was inactive for each of New York's previous four games while recovering from a PCL sprain of his right knee. Wilson has been able to practice in some capacity over the past two weeks, and he'll presumably participate in full from Wednesday through Friday this week to clear up any lingering concern about his availability.
Nov 22, 2021
Could be ready to start Week 12
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Wilson (knee) has a chance to return for Sunday's game against the Texans in a starting role, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was inactive for a fourth straight game in the Jets' Week 11 loss to the Dolphins, but he turned in a good workout Sunday that has Saleh feeling optimistic about the rookie's chances of suiting up during the upcoming weekend. Saleh noted that a decision on the team's Week 12 starting quarterback won't be announced until Wednesday, but if Wilson continues to check out well when the Jets put him through another workout Tuesday, he should recapture the job. Mike White started the first three games while Wilson was out before handing over the role this past week to Joe Flacco, who completed 24 of 39 attempts for 291 yards and two touchdowns in the 24-17 loss to Miami. If the Jets determine Wilson will need additional time to move past the knee injury, Flacco would likely be in line for a second straight start.
Nov 21, 2021
Not playing Sunday
Wilson (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Randy Lange of the Jets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Robert Saleh announced Friday that Wilson wouldn't be active for the Jets' Week 11 matchup, but the team elected to list the rookie signal-caller as doubtful Friday rather than ruling him out for the contest. As expected, Wilson won't be available Sunday, but he could have a good chance at reclaiming starting duties and putting an end to a four-game absence in the Jets' next game Nov. 28 in Houston, assuming he upgrades to full participation in practice during the upcoming week. Joe Flacco will get the starting nod against Miami, while Mike White moves into the No. 2 role after starting the prior three contests.
Nov 19, 2021
Takes doubtful tag into weekend
The Jets list Wilson (knee) as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Dolphins after he practiced on a limited basis throughout the week, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
For the second week in a row, the rookie signal-caller carries a doubtful designation into the weekend, and it doesn't come as much of a surprise after head coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday that Joe Flacco would start under center Week 11 while Mike White serves as his backup. Though the Jets were initially hopeful that Wilson would be able to play this weekend and put an end to a three-game absence due to a PCL sprain of his right knee, he took a small step back in terms of activity this week after managing a full practice last Friday. Assuming Wilson's knee responds better to the Jets' slate of practices Week 12, he'll likely take back the reins of the offense from Flacco in the team's Nov. 28 game in Houston.

Not ready for game action
Wilson (knee) is not in line to be active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
ANALYSIS
In that context, Mike White is slated back up Joe Flacco on Sunday, while Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record relays that Wilson -- who is bouncing back from a PCL sprain -- remains in the day-to-day category as it relates to his chances of potentially being a candidate to reclaim the team's starting assignment as soon as Week 12, when the Jets face the Texans. Per Eric Allen of the team's official site, Wilson will practice in a limited fashion this week, with coach Robert Saleh indicating that while the young QB hasn't suffered any setbacks, he's not yet 100 percent at this stage, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Nov 17, 2021
Not in line to start Week 11
Wilson won't be available to start Sunday's game against the Dolphins, as the Jets aren't confident he's completely recovered from the PCL sprain of his right knee he suffered Week 7, Brian Costello of The New York Post reports. Joe Flacco will draw the start at quarterback Week 11.
ANALYSIS
After a two-week layoff, Wilson resumed practicing last week and even turned in a full workout Friday, only to be inactive behind starter Mike White and Flacco. With another week of practice on tap, Wilson was expected to be ready to return to action against Miami, but the Jets apparently aren't convinced the rookie is 100 percent and are inclined to hold him out for a fourth consecutive game. Though White -- who started the past three games -- will cede the starting job to Flacco after throwing four interceptions in a blowout loss to the Bills last weekend, he could still fill the backup role against Miami if the Jets don't want to make Wilson available in an emergency.
Nov 14, 2021
Inactive for Week 10
Wilson (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
As was expected after head coach Robert Saleh said earlier in the week that Mike White would pick up a third consecutive start at quarterback, Wilson will remain out while he continues to work his way back from a PCL sprain of his right knee. The No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft took a major step forward this week, practicing on a limited basis Wednesday and Thursday before upgrading to full activity Friday. If Wilson can get in at least one or two full practices next week, he should be on track to suit up in the Jets' Nov. 21 game against the Dolphins, but whether he starts or serves as a backup in that contest will likely hinge on how White performs against the Bills.
Nov 12, 2021
Doubtful despite full practice
Wilson (knee) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bills despite logging a full practice Friday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jets have little reason to rush Wilson's return, especially with Mike White avoiding the injury report altogether after injuring his forearm in last Thursday's loss to the Colts. White has outplayed Wilson this season, and the Jets have a pair of capable of veterans in Joe Flacco and Josh Johnson at the quarterback position, so Wilson will almost certainly be made inactive Sunday. Wilson should be healthy enough to retake the starting job in Week 11 against Miami, though White could hold onto it a while longer if he continues to impress.
Nov 11, 2021
Remains limited in practice
Wilson (knee) practiced on a limited basis Thursday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, Wilson didn't take part in quarterback drills during the open portion of Thursday's practice like he did Wednesday, but whatever he did behind the scenes was enough for him to garner a "limited" tag for the second straight day. Though Wilson is expected to practice throughout the week, head coach Robert Saleh suggested the rookie won't be active even as an emergency backup Sunday against the Bills, as the Jets aren't eager to make him available until he's 100 percent recovered from the PCL sprain he suffered Week 7. Given the Jets' investment in the No. 2 overall pick, Wilson should start again at some point this season, though Saleh hinted Wednesday that Mike White -- who will pick up his third straight start this weekend -- could get a longer leash atop the depth chart with a strong showing against Buffalo's top-ranked pass defense, per Connor Hughes of The Athletic.
Nov 10, 2021
Won't start this week
Though Wilson (knee) is in line to practice this week, Mike White will start at QB for the Jets on Sunday against the Bills, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is clearly viewed as the team's long-term answer at signal-caller, but the Jets plan to take a cautious approach in terms of restoring him to the lineup as he recovers from a sprained right PCL. White -- who is slated to be backed up by Joe Flacco this weekend -- has played well in Wilson's absence, which Cimini notes gives coach Robert Saleh the luxury of taking a conservative approach with Wilson for the time being.
Nov 8, 2021
Appears unlikely to play Week 10
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Wilson (knee) will likely resume practicing this week, but he cautioned the rookie signal-caller won't be rushed back into action, suggesting Wilson is unlikely to play Sunday against the Bills, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
More specifically, Saleh said it would be "irresponsible" to push Wilson to play just over two weeks removed from suffering a PCL sprain of his right knee, an injury that requires around four weeks to make a full recovery. Though Saleh said he's hopeful Wilson is able to advance to full participation in practice at some point this week, the 22-year-old will presumably need an additional slate of practices next week before he's considered 100 percent. With that in mind, Mike White appears in line to receive his third straight start this weekend against Buffalo, provided he's able to quickly move past a more minor forearm injury of his own.
Nov 5, 2021
Should practice this week
Wilson (knee) is expected to resume practicing this week, Al Iannazzone of Newsday Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jets avoided placing Wilson on IR in hopes that he would resume practicing after a two-week absence, and it appears that will be the case. With fellow quarterback Mike White (forearm) -- who impressed in Wilson's absence before getting hurt himself -- also expected to practice before the Jets' Week 10 matchup with the Bills, coach Robert Saleh will have to figure out how to divvy up first-team reps between the two recovering quarterbacks.
Nov 1, 2021
Should practice Week 10
Head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Monday that the Jets aren't considering placing Wilson (knee) on injured reserve since the quarterback is expected to ready to resume practicing at some point Week 10, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson will miss his second straight game Thursday against the Colts while he continues to recover from the PCL sprain of his right knee suffered Oct. 24, and he may face an uphill battle to gain clearance for a Week 10 matchup with the Bills on Nov. 14. That being said, because the Jets believe Wilson will be able to practice less than three weeks after suffering the injury, the team is resisting putting him on IR. In the meantime, the Jets will once again turn to Mike White to direct their offense Thursday, after he orchestrated a 34-31 upset win over the Bengals in his first NFL start over the weekend. Saleh wasn't willing to firmly commit to White retaining the job once Wilson is healthy again, even after White dazzled with 37 completions on 45 attempts for 405 yards, three touchdowns and a pair of tipped interceptions in the victory. How White performs against the Colts in addition to Wilson's progress in his recovery from the knee injury will likely dictate which of the two starts for the Jets in Week 1
Oct 30, 2021
Possibly available for Week 10
Wilson (knee) will not be placed on injured reserve and could even have a chance at playing Week 10 against the Bills, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This is a somewhat surprising development considering Wilson was expected to miss at minimum 2-to-4 weeks after injuring his knee, putting him on the early side of that timeline if Saturday's news is accurate. The acquisition of Joe Flacco complicates things somewhat given the Jets seemingly have no reason to rush back the coveted 2021 No. 2 overall pick with the established veteran at the helm. That being said, a lost season such as this one could be a perfect situation for Wilson to get reps and gain valuable experience so long as he's healthy. The rookie is not expected to play Week 9 against the Colts and likely will be considered a longshot to face the division-rival Bills in Week 10.
Oct 25, 2021
Flacco to fill in
With Wilson slated to miss 2-to-4 weeks with a PCL injury, per coach Robert Saleh, the Jets have made a trade to acquire Joe Flacco from the Eagles, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
With the Jets 1-5, there's little incentive for the team to rush the No. 2 overall pick in the draft back to action. By acquiring an experienced signal-caller in Flacco, the Jets can proceed deliberately with Wilson. Though it's still possible that the rookie could be back as soon as Week 10 against the Bills, that's a best-case scenario, and if there's any doubt about the soundness of Wilson's knee at that time, expect the Jets to err on the side of caution.
Oct 25, 2021
Sprained PCL confirmed
Wilson (knee) has been diagnosed with a sprained PCL and is expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jets have yet to officially confirm the severity of Wilson's injury, but it appears that the rookie signal-caller is set to miss at least two games due to a right knee injury suffered during Sunday's loss to the Patriots. That would make Nov. 14 against the Bills the earliest possible date for Wilson to retake the field, though Week 11 against the Dolphins or Week 12 versus the Texans could be more realistic targets. In the meantime, Mike White will be in line to hold down the for under center.
Oct 24, 2021
Likely facing multi-week absence
Wilson has at least a Grade 2 PCL sprain in his knee, which suggests he's looking at a recovery timetable of 2-4 weeks at a minimum, David J. Chao of Pro Football Doc reports.
ANALYSIS
A Grade 2 sprain wouldn't end Wilson's season, but an IR stint of three-plus weeks will be on the table for the rookie second-overall pick, who was injured when he went down awkwardly on a sack by New England's Matthew Judon on Sunday. If Wilson has a more significant Grade 3 sprain, his absence would be even more extensive. Mike White took over for Wilson against the Patriots and will presumably continue to start for the duration of Wilson's absence. More clarity on the severity on Wilson's injury should surface once MRI results become available Monday.
Oct 24, 2021
Injures right knee in Week 7
Wilson noted after Sunday's loss to the Patriots that his right knee injury is believed to be a PCL issue, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
The report adds that Wilson was walking gingerly as he entered and left the Jets' interview room Sunday, while the QB relayed that he felt a "pop" in his knee after New England's Matthew Judon landed on him. Additionally, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports that Wilson describes his knee as feeling "off" and "loose." We'll await the result of the MRI the rookie signal-caller is slated to undergo Monday, but at this stage it seems as though Wilson will miss some time. If so, Mike White would be in line to start next Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Oct 24, 2021
Slated to undergo MRI
Wilson is slated to undergo an MRI on his knee Monday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
According to coach Robert Saleh, there's some initial optimism with regard to Wilson's status, though he added, "You never know." Look for an update at some point Monday, at which time there should be some added clarity with regard to the rookie QB's prospects of playing next Sunday against the Bengals. Per Brian Costello of the New York Post, it's believed that Wilson -- who was replaced by Mike White on Sunday -- may be dealing with a PCL injury.
Oct 24, 2021
Hurts knee Sunday
Wilson was forced out of Sunday's game against the Patriots with a knee injury.
ANALYSIS
With Wilson having headed to the locker room to have his knee checked out, Mike White has taken over the Jets' QB duties versus New England. Prior to his exit from the contest, Wilson completed six of his 10 passing attempts for 51 yards
Oct 10, 2021
Takes step back
Wilson completed 19 of 32 passes for 192 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Wilson suffered through a horrific first half in which he mustered only 42 passing yards and threw an interception. He improved in the second half, leading the Jets' offense to two touchdowns and a field goal. However, the drives were capped by a running back on each occasion, which left Wilson without a touchdown for the third time in five games this season. The Jets will head into their bye in Week 6 and will return to action in Week 7 against New England.
Oct 3, 2021
Heats up late to get first win
Wilson completed 21 of 34 passes for 297 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 27-24 overtime win over the Titans. He also had minus-2 yards on three rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Wilson threw the eighth interception of his young career on the Jets' third possession after a pair of punts, but he bounced back to lead New York's third touchdown drive of the season -- capped off by a two-yard Michael Carter touchdown -- on the next possession. He set up a go-ahead field goal late in the third quarter with a 54-yard deep ball to Keelan Cole, then tossed touchdowns to Jamison Crowder (three yards) and Corey Davis (53 yards) in the fourth. Wilson carried over the momentum from his best half as a pro into overtime, guiding the Jets down to the 1-yard line before they ultimately settled for a field goal, which held up as the game-winner after Tennessee missed a field goal on the ensuing drive. With the first win of his NFL career under his belt, things are pointing up for the rookie quarterback heading into a favorable Week 5 matchup against the Falcons in London.
Sep 27, 2021
Another pair of picks
Wilson completed 19 of his 35 pass attempts for 160 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's Week 3 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was rarely able to maintain significant offensive drives, and the Broncos had 11 minutes more of possession as a result. His continued problem with turnovers is concerning, though it is worth noting that Wilson's second interception came with under a minute left in the game while the Jets were pushing down the field in an attempt to avoid a shutout. Even so, Wilson has looked far from prepared for the highest level of competition by throw seven picks as compared to just two touchdowns three games into his career. Wilson should have the chance to get back on track in Week 4 against a Tennessee secondary that has been exploited early on in the campaign.
Sep 19, 2021
Four picks against Pats
Wilson completed 19 of 33 passes for 210 yards and four interceptions in Sunday's 25-6 loss to the Patriots. He also rushed three times for 19 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson got off to a painfully slow start for the second consecutive game, throwing interceptions on each of his first two passes and four of his first 10. He settled down after that but still failed to lead the Jets' offense into the end zone. With 20 points through two games, the start of the Wilson era isn't looking much different from the end of the Sam Darnold era for Gang Green. Wilson will look to turn things around in a Week 3 road matchup with a Denver team that just limited fellow rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence to 118 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Sep 12, 2021
Tale of two halves in debut
Wilson completed 20 of 37 passes for 258 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 19-14 loss to Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Wilson struggled mightily in the first half, completing only six of 16 passes for 84 yards and an interception en route to a 16-0 deficit. He settled down after halftime and finished with a respectable stat line, even though New York's comeback attempt ultimately came up short. Wilson's first two career touchdown passes both went to Corey Davis, spanning 22 and eight yards, respectively. The rookie second overall pick was especially impressive on New York's final drive before the Panthers ran out the clock, throwing for 108 yards and a touchdown on that possession alone. Wilson will look to replicate his second-half form and forget his first-half struggles in his MetLife Stadium debut against the Patriots in Week 2.

Doesn't see field Friday
Wilson didn't play in Friday's preseason tie against the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
The decision to hold out the 2021 second overall pick comes as no surprise after bad weather delayed the start of the game by about half an hour and left poor field conditions behind. Wilson seemingly had little left to prove in exhibition play after a couple dazzling performances already -- per Next Gen Stats, he was a perfect 5-for-5 for 94 yards and a touchdown on throws of 10-plus air yards in preseason action. The 22-year-old will be under center Week 1 when the Jets begin the regular season against Carolina.
Aug 27, 2021
May not play Friday
Wilson didn't take part in pregame wraps prior to Friday's preseason contest against the Eagles, indicating he won't play, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The field conditions at MetLife Stadium aren't great following a downpour Friday afternoon, so coach Robert Saleh may be exercising caution with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Wilson this will conclude his first exhibition season 15-for-20 passing for 191 yards and two touchdowns in two contests.
Aug 27, 2021
Likely to get more preseason run
Wilson is expected to play in the Jets' preseason finale Friday against the Eagles, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Robert Saleh wouldn't commit to how much Wilson may play, but did say he was leaning towards his rookie quarterback seeing some action. Wilson is the undoubted starter come the regular season, though it's understandable that the team wants him to get more game action under his belt. Between the first two preseason contests, Wilson has completed 15 of his 20 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns.
Aug 21, 2021
Sharp at Lambeau on Saturday
Wilson completed nine of 11 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's preseason win over the Packers.
ANALYSIS
The second overall pick in the 2021 looked more like a seasoned veteran while leading the Jets' first-team offense, picking apart the Packers' secondary and finding tight end Tyler Kroft for both his scores. The young quarterback's primary target was Corey Davis though, and the former Titan hauled in four catches for 70 yards from Wilson before the first quarter was over. It was a very impressive showing for the new face of the franchise, and while he's been getting short shrift at the draft table compared to other rookie QBs like Justin Fields and Trey Lance, Wilson could see a spike in his ADP based on this performance.
Aug 18, 2021
Should get 3-4 series in Green Bay
Coach Robert Saleh said Tuesday that Wilson should see 3-4 series of action in Week 2 of preseason against the Packers on Saturday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson played the first two series of the preseason opener against the Giants and will ramp up his workload by a series or two in Green Bay. The rookie second overall pick is also expected to see playing time in the third preseason game, as Saleh says he's planning to give his starters playing time in that one as well.
Aug 14, 2021
Moves ball well in debut
Wilson completed six of nine passes for 63 yards in Saturday's 12-7 preseason win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's first career possession at the NFL level ended with a field goal, and all four of his throws on the drive went to Corey Davis, who caught two of those for 18 yards. He also led the offense into Giants territory on his second and final drive, which ended with Ty Johnson getting stuffed on 4th-and-1. The rookie second overall pick's debut performance is cause for cautious optimism, especially since camp standout Elijah Moore (quadriceps) was missing from Wilson's receiving corps. Wilson will look to pick up his first NFL touchdown against the Packers in Week 2 of the preseason.
Aug 12, 2021
Playing two series Saturday
Wilson will play two series during Saturday's preseason opener against the Giants, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson will make his preseason debut Saturday, but with Giants' coach Joe Judge having said that he will handle the first preseason game the way teams used to handle the last one, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, he may be facing backups in the opposing defense. Reports surrounding the rookie No. 2 overall pick's performance in camp have been mostly positive to date, though he did struggle in front of fans last Sunday, throwing two interceptions without a touchdown.
Aug 8, 2021
Off in Green and White practice
Wilson struggled in the Jets' first practice at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, throwing two interceptions without a touchdown, Steve Serby of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
While Wilson failed to lead the offense into the end zone and was nearly picked off a third time, backups Mike White and James Morgan combined to throw three touchdowns. Reports about his play have been positive up to this point, so chalk this effort up to some rookie nerves as the second overall pick finally met Gang Green nation. Wilson remains the favorite to open the season as New York's starter under center.

Agrees to contract
Wilson has agreed to a four-year deal with the Jets, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that the QB's contract is projected to be worth $35.1 million and includes a signing bonus of approximately $22.9 million. It was inevitable that the No. 2 overall pick in this year's draft would sign on the dotted line, but the two sides needed to compromise on a couple of items. Per Schefter, Wilson "gets no deferral" while the Jets "get offset language." Either way, the BYU product can now officially embark on his pro career and will now look to build chemistry with a pass-catching corps that currently features wide receivers Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, Jamison Crowder, Keelan Cole and Denzel Mims, as well as tight ends Tyler Kroft and Chris Herndon.

Impressing coaching staff
Wilson has impressed New York's coaching staff with his work ethic and quick learning ability in camp, Jack Bell of the Jets' official site reports. "We've thrown a lot at (WIlson)," offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said. "I thought these last two weeks have been awesome for him...it's cool because he recognizes all that, he learns, and he's eager."
ANALYSIS
Wilson's tremendous arm strength and accuracy led the Jets to select him second overall in the 2021 draft, and early reports from camp suggests he has the mental makeup to get the most out of his physical gifts. With a creative offensive mind in LaFleur guiding him, Wilson should help restore some excitement to a Jets aerial attack that has failed to leave the hangar over the past couple seasons.
