EPL Player of the Year Trends: What Recent History Tells Us
Although we haven’t had the 2024/25 player of the year award handed out yet, it goes without saying it’s likely going to be Mo Salah. Liverpool won the league, and Salah was the key factor in their championship-winning season.
Although one would think the player of the year is usually handed out to a player on the team who wins the EPL, it hasn’t quite worked out like that in recent history. Only three of the previous eight winners have come from the Premier League-winning team.
However, should Salah win the award for last season, it would be three years in a row that the EPL player of the year was also on the EPL winning team.
So, who are this year’s favorites worth betting to be the standout player in the league, and which sleepers are worth a few dollars? It goes without saying that almost anybody inside the top 10 of the betting market could be this season’s MVP.
Unfortunately, we can’t pick them all.
Top EPL Player of the Year Bets for 2025-26
Bukayo Saka (+650)
Saka has been one of Arsenal’s standout players since he broke onto the scene a few seasons ago.
He has quickly become one of the standout players in the Premier League. Last season, he contributed 25 goals, 13 assists, and 12 goals for the Gunners.
Saka is capable of both scoring and creating goals, which dramatically increases his chances of winning the award. The 24-year-old has scored 53 goals and contributed to 45 assists in his 195 EPL games to date.
If Arsenal win the league this season, it goes without saying Saka will likely be the player to win the player of the year award. Priced around +650, we believe he is a solid set of odds, even if he is the favorite.
Cole Palmer (+700)
Cole Palmer has been one of England’s and Chelsea’s most prominent youngsters in the previous two seasons. His pace and attacking prowess have contributed 37 goals and 20 assists in just 89 Premier League appearances.
Although Chelsea are not one of the three favoured to win the league, it’s likely going to be the overall contributions (and plenty of them) from Palmer that will help their cause should they be crowned champions.
As we previously stated, the player of the year award doesn’t always go to the league winner, so Palmer could still be in with a shout at +700. Don’t be surprised to see Palmer score 18+ league goals this season and be in with a shout to win the award.
Erling Haaland (+800)
Haaland had a down season last year with Manchester City failing to win the league for the first time since 2020. With that being said, he still managed to score 22 goals in 31 games and, since coming to the Premier League, has also scored 85 goals in 97 games.
Haaland is likely the best valued odds at this moment in time, as his goalscoring is so powerful he could easily score 25/30 goals this season and become the player of the year. He scored 35 goals in 36 games in his debut season and picked up the trophy for player of the year.
