The Dallas Stars play host to the Winnipeg Jets on home ice tonight with a chance to advance into the 3rd round of the NHL playoffs with a 3-2 series lead.

It’s been a back-and-forth series with the Jets taking game one, the Stars then took Games 2, 3 and 4, with the Jets taking advantage of their last home game with back-to-back 4-0 wins against the Stars at home.

The Dallas Stars are as low as -155 on the moneyline odds, and the Winnipeg Jets are priced up at +130 NHL betting odds.

The Pick

Winnipeg Jets vs. Dallas Stars

Saturday, May 17, 2025 – 08:00 PM EDT at American Airlines Center

All to Play For in Dallas

Tonight’s NHL matchup will be very intriguing, with the Winnipeg Jets being almost unbeatable on home ice, they have not done so well while playing on the road. The Jets went 26-15 on the road this season but 0-5 in the playoffs. Whilst the Stars had gone 26-10-3 at home this season, they are also 5-1 on home ice throughout this season’s playoffs and 5-0 in their last five.

With that being said, the Jets are a strong team and definitely have the ability to upset the Stars tonight, but they will need to pick up their first road victory this postseason to do so.

Right now, the Jets’ main goal is to get themselves back to their home comforts and a second Game Seven of this season’s playoffs, and they won’t care how messy things get tonight; their job will be to just get the job done.

Jets Must Buck Trend

It’s now or never for this Winnipeg Jets team, as a loss will send them packing (with their tail between their legs) from this season’s playoffs. The Jets were predicted to cruise through round one (which didn’t happen), and nobody predicted they would go 0-5 in their first five road games this postseason.

The Jets have won 3 of 5 games this season when their moneyline odds have been higher than +130, and they have won 9 of 21 games this season when they have been the underdogs.

Goaltender Matchup

Thus far throughout the playoffs, Dallas’ goaltender Jake Oettinger has gone 7-5 with 2.60 goals allowed, whilst the Jets’ goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has gone 6-6 and allowed 3.18 goals per game.

For some context, Hellebuyck ended the regular season 47-12 and allowed just 2.01 goals per game (by far the best in the NHL). Jake Ottengier went 36-18 throughout the regular season and allowed 2.6 goals per game.

Hellebuyck also had 8 shutouts compared to Jake Ottinger’s 2, so it’s safe to say Hellebuyck has been performing well under par throughout these playoffs thus far.

Winnipeg & Dallas Trends & Facts

  • Winnipeg went 3-1 against Dallas this season, but is 2-3 in the playoffs.
  • The total has gone under in 5 of Winnipeg’s last 6 games when playing on the road against Dallas.
  • The total has gone under in 12 of Dallas’ last 13 games against Winnipeg.
  • The Jets allowed 2.31 goals per game, which was the fewest this season
  • The total has gone under in 5 of Dallas’ last 6 games when playing at home against Winnipeg.

The Pick

This is a tough one to call. It could be written in the stars that the Jets win this and game seven and somehow win the Stanley Cup after a few Game Sevens, but that’s all fairytale stuff. If they do win Game Seven, though, people will have to start to believe.

We can’t pick a winner here; we actually do prefer the Dallas Stars to get the job done, but we wouldn’t like to lay the -155 on offer on the moneyline.

We are going to take a look at goals in this game, even with two top goaltenders in the crease.

We don’t expect many power plays tonight, but we do like the over 5.5 goals in this one. Hellebuyck might be a top goaltender, but he hasn’t been good throughout these playoffs on the road, and this game could open right up towards the end with some empty netters if it isn’t going to plan for either team.

NHL Pick: Over 5.5 (-115) at Bet365
