Double-double off bench
Black provided 14 points (6-16 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists and one block across 30 minutes off the bench during Sunday's 106-100 loss to New York.
ANALYSIS
The third-year guard produced his first double-double of the season and the second of his career, as he continues to fill a key role in the Orlando backcourt. Over the last 11 games (two starts), Black has averaged 16.3 points, 5.0 boards, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.2 threes in 30.8 minutes a contest, but he could get a more consistent look in the starting five if Jalen Suggs (leg) winds up missing significant time after leaving Sunday's game early.
Dec 4, 2025
Grabs seven boards vs. San Antonio
Black posted seven points (2-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds and five assists over 28 minutes during the Magic's 114-112 loss to the Spurs on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Black entered Wednesday's game having averaged 23.0 points on 53.1 percent shooting over his three prior outings. He wasn't able to carry that efficiency into Wednesday's contest, but he was active on the boards with seven rebounds, which was second most on the Magic behind Wendell Carter (nine). Black continues to play heavy minutes off the bench even with Jalen Suggs' minutes steadily increasing over the course of the regular season. Over his last 10 appearances, Black has averaged 15.4 points, 3.6 assists, 3.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.2 threes over 29.4 minutes per game.
Dec 1, 2025
Nets 22 points with full line
Black contributed 22 points (8-15 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 4-6 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks across 34 minutes during Monday's 125-120 victory over Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Black got off to a slow start offensively in this one, contributing just four points on 1-for-4 shooting through the first half of action, but he completely flipped the script after halftime. His defense kept him in the game, and he finished with a stupendous plus/minus rating of plus-25. Black has been in a nice groove over the past eight games, posting averages of 18.1 points, 3.6 assists, 1.5 triples and 1.9 steals per contest.
Nov 29, 2025
Scores 16 points in win
Black produced 16 points (6-17 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 3-6 FT), four rebounds, four assists, one block and three steals across 32 minutes during Friday's 112-109 victory over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Black was unable to repeat the 31-point performance he delivered in the win over the 76ers on Tuesday. However, he still posted a solid overall line while recording at least three tallies in four of the five major categories. Black has been trending in the right direction of late and has scored in double digits in his last seven outings, averaging 17.6 points per game in that stretch.
Nov 25, 2025
Records career high in blowout win
Black notched 31 points (12-17 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT), three assists, one rebound and one steal across 28 minutes in Tuesday's 144-103 win over the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
After starting Sunday's loss to Boston, the third-year guard retreated to the bench with Jalen Suggs back in action. Still, Black caught fire Tuesday and led all players in points, scoring 20 of his career-high 31 points in the first half. The 21-year-old continues to provide a spark for the Magic whether in the first or second unit, and he has scored in double figures in six consecutive contests.
Nov 25, 2025
Back to bench Tuesday
Black is not in the Magic's starting lineup against the 76ers on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Black will revert to a bench role Tuesday due to the return of Jalen Suggs (knee) from a one-game absence. Black started in Sunday's 138-129 loss to the Celtics, when he finished with 14 points (4-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 4-5 FT), five assists, three rebounds and one steal over 28 minutes. Regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench, Black has been a regular contributor in the Magic's rotation this season.
Nov 23, 2025
Starting nod Sunday
Black is in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Black will make his fourth start of the season in place of Jalen Suggs (knee), who is resting Sunday. In his three previous starts, Black averaged 15.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks in 33.0 minutes per contest.
Nov 22, 2025
Leads second unit in win
Black provided 11 points (4-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-4 FT), four assists, three steals, one rebound and one block over 29 minutes during Saturday's 133-121 win over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Black put up single-digit shot attempts for a second consecutive contest, though he still led the bench in points while reaching double figures for the fourth game in a row. The 21-year-old guard continues to provide value on both ends of the floor, leading all players in steals Saturday. He has tallied multiple steals in each of his last three games, totaling nine swipes during that span.
Nov 20, 2025
Tallies four swipes
Black contributed 12 points (4-9 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), four rebounds, four assists and four steals over 29 minutes during Thursday's 129-101 win over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Black turned in a well-rounded final line off the bench, scoring in double figures while contributing across the board. He racked up a team-high four steals on the way to a victory, a mark he also reached Nov. 7 against Boston. Black continues to find ways to be productive even after the return of Jalen Suggs.
Nov 18, 2025
Still productive off bench
Black posted 21 points (8-13 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 5-7 FT), four rebounds, two assists and two steals over 33 minutes during the Magic's 121-113 win over the Warriors on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Even with Jalen Suggs returning from a one-game absence to supplant Black from the starting lineup Tuesday, the latter still ended up playing meaningful minutes off the bench. Black led the Magic with a plus-18 point differential, and his 21 points were second most on the team behind Desmond Bane (23). Black has established a consistent role for himself and should continue to see reasonable playing time regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench. In nine games (two starts) since Nov. 1, he has averaged 10.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 steals over 27.1 minutes per game.
Nov 18, 2025
Reverting back to bench Tuesday
Black won't start Tuesday's game against the Warriors, Cody Taylor of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
With Jalen Suggs returning from a one-game absence due to a groin issue, Black will slide to the second unit. Over his last five outings off the bench, the 21-year-old guard has averaged 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 steals in 23.8 minutes per contest.
Nov 16, 2025
Gets starting nod
Black will enter the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockets, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Jalen Suggs (groin) is out for Sunday's game, but he's day-to-day moving forward. Black has been a bright spot for the Magic this season, posting averages of10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 three-pointers in 25.7 minutes per contest this season.
Nov 12, 2025
Comes up big in fourth quarter
Black posted 17 points (7-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt), three assists, three rebounds, two steals and one blocks over 23 minutes during the Magic's 124-107 win over the Knicks on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Black reverted to a bench role Wednesday due to the return of Jalen Suggs, but the former ended up taking on a larger role after Paolo Banchero left in the first half due to a groin injury. Black made his presence felt in the fourth quarter, when he scored nine of his 17 points to help the Magic maintain their lead. The third-year pro could enter Orlando's starting lineup if Banchero were to be sidelined due to his injury, beginning with Friday's game against Brooklyn.
Nov 12, 2025
Moves back to bench
Black will come off the bench for Wednesday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Black drew the start Monday due to the absence of Jalen Suggs (knee), but with Suggs back in action, Black will return to a reserve role. The third-year guard posted eight points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal across 32 minutes.
Nov 10, 2025
Starting sans Suggs
Black will start in Monday's game against the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
With Jalen Suggs (knee) sidelined, Black will get the starting nod against Portland. Over his last five appearances (one start), the 21-year-old guard has averaged 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals in 27.0 minutes per contest.
Nov 7, 2025
Logs four steals vs. Boston
Black supplied 13 points (5-11 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four assists, four rebounds and four steals over 33 minutes during the Magic's 123-110 win over the Celtics on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Black led the Magic's bench in scoring Friday and led both teams with a season-high four swipes. He played a season-high 33 minutes Friday, 19 of which came in the second half. Even though he occupies a reserve role, Black has been consistently getting more playing time than Jalen Suggs as the latter continues to have his minutes restricted while recovering from offseason knee surgery.
Nov 1, 2025
Returns to bench
Black will come off the bench for Saturday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
This is an expected move with Jalen Suggs back in the mix after a maintenance day. Black was outstanding in Thursday's win over the Hornets with 20 points (8-13 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), one rebound, two assists, two blocks and two steals across 31 minutes.
Oct 30, 2025
Scores 20 points with full line
Black provided 20 points (8-13 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), one rebound, two assists, two blocks and two steals across 31 minutes during Thursday's 123-107 win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Black has been heating up over the past four games, posting averages of 15.8 points on 52.4 percent shooting from the field and 72.2 percent at the stripe to go with 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 triples, 1.3 steals, 1.0 block and 3.3 turnovers per contest. He got the start Thursday with Jalen Suggs taking a rest day, so while he'll likely return to the bench his next time out, he should still be a sizable part of the rotation.
Oct 30, 2025
Starting sans Suggs
Black will start Thursday's game against the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Jalen Suggs will rest Thursday, opening up a place in the first unit. Last regular season, Black averaged 9.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals in 28.9 minutes per contest across 10 games as a starter.
Oct 29, 2025
Team option picked up
The Magic picked up Black's fourth-year team option Wednesday, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
This was a formality as far as Orlando is concerned. This move keeps Black under contract with the Magic through the 2026-27 campaign. Black is averaging 12.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists through four games to open the regular season.
Oct 28, 2025
Drops 14 off bench
Black put up 14 points (5-10 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-7 FT), three rebounds two assists, a steal and a block in 30 minutes during Monday's 136-124 loss to Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Despite Jalen Suggs (knee) returning from his one game absence, Black still played 30 minutes and scored in double digits again, leading all bench players in scoring as well. Black has risen to be one of the main contributors among the second unit, and he will look to continue his momentum going Wednesday against Detroit.
Oct 25, 2025
Pops for 19 bench points
Black posted 19 points (6-9 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-6 FT), five rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 30 minutes during Saturday's 110-98 loss to Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Black struggled to make an impact during Friday's matchup against the Hawks, finishing with eight points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in 21 minutes. However, he came through with a strong showing Saturday, leading the bench in scoring while also contributing defensively. Black experienced an uptick in minutes with Jalen Suggs (knee) ruled out, so expect his workload to take a hit once Suggs returns to health.
Oct 25, 2025
Muted performance in loss
Black racked up eight points (3-4 FG, 2-5 FT), three rebounds, two assists and one steal over 21 minutes during Friday's 111-107 loss to the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Black didn't make much of an impact off the bench. He may struggle to find time on the floor unless Jalen Suggs (knee) isn't available, which could happen often early in the season with the team taking a cautious approach with the veteran guard.
Oct 11, 2025
Scores 12 off bench
Black logged 12 points (3-9 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 4-6 FT), five assists, two rebounds and one block in 21 minutes of Friday's 128-98 preseason win over the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Jalen Suggs (knee) missed another game and remains without a clear timetable. Tyus Jones started at point guard, but he was pretty quiet in his 19-minute stint. Black may be the third-string point guard on paper when everybody is healthy, but if Friday was any indication, he's going to push for more minutes.
Apr 13, 2025
Moves into starting lineup
Black will start Sunday's game against the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
With Cory Joshep (knee), Franz Wagner (knee) and Paolo Banchero (ankle) out, the Magic will start Black, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Tristan da Silva, Jonathan Isaac and Wendell Carter. As a starter this season (nine games), Black has averaged 8.1 points, 2.8 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 27.9 minutes.
Apr 11, 2025
Productive in increased role
Black supplied 21 points (9-16 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-3 FT), six rebounds, seven assists and two steals over 31 minutes during Friday's 129-115 win over Indiana.
ANALYSIS
Black scored at least 20 points for just the sixth time this season, turning in one of his better all-around performances. The Magic were without their regular starters, affording Black an opportunity to play at least 30 minutes for the second straight game. Despite the season-ending injury to Jalen Suggs, Black has been somewhat of a letdown, even in an increased role. Over his past 26 games, Black is averaging just 9.7 points and 1.2 steals in 22.3 minutes per game.
Apr 4, 2025
Records two blocks
Black provided six points (3-10 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 0-1 FT), three rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal across 23 minutes during Thursday's 109-97 win over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
With the Magic close to full strength, Black's fantasy appeal is quite limited on the offensive side of things. He's been terrific on the defensive end, however, as he now has a total of six blocks and eight steals over his last five games.
Mar 28, 2025
Scores 14 points off bench
Black produced 14 points (5-10 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 3-3 FT), three rebounds, three assists and two blocks over 26 minutes during Thursday's 101-92 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Black has been a reliable scoring weapon off the bench for the Magic in recent weeks, and the numbers back that up. He's posted double-digit points in five of his previous six appearances while also dishing out multiple assists five times, so he's making an impact both as a playmaker and scorer. Over that six-game stretch, Black is averaging 14.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest.
Mar 26, 2025
Scores 20 points off bench
Black recorded 20 points (8-18 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, two blocks and one steal over 30 minutes during Tuesday's 111-104 victory over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner led the way for the Magic in this one, but Orlando wouldn't have been able to come away with the win hadn't Black been as good as he was coming off the bench. The lack of consistency on a game-to-game basis has been Black's biggest knock in recent outings, but he seems to be trending toward the right path of late. He's scored in double digits in four of his last five appearances, averaging 14.8 points per game and shooting 57.1 percent from the floor in that stretch.
Mar 25, 2025
Impresses off bench in win
Black amassed 17 points (7-10 FG, 3-5 3Pt), six assists, five rebounds, one block and one steal across 30 minutes during Monday's 118-106 win over the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Black led the second unit in scoring during an extremely efficient outing Monday. The 21-year-old struggled over his first seven appearances in March, during which he had averaged only 6.6 points while shooting 35.9 percent from the field. However, Black has scored in double figures in three of his last four appearances, averaging 13.5 points while shooting 64.5 percent from the field. The second-year combo guard has also recorded six assists in back-to-back games.
Mar 22, 2025
Solid stat line coming off bench
Black chipped in 13 points (5-7 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, six assists and one block over 26 minutes during Friday's 120-105 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Black has struggled with consistency this season, and this was just the fifth time he scored in double digits coming off the bench across his 15 appearances since the All-Star break. The former Arkansas standout has carved a solid role in the rotation as the backup point guard for the Magic, but the inconsistency he shows on a game-to-game basis limits his upside considerably, even if he delivers solid outings like Friday's from time to time.
Mar 17, 2025
Scores 17 points in win
Black supplied 17 points (5-7 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 4-6 FT), three rebounds, two assists and two steals across 22 minutes during Sunday's 108-103 win over the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Cole Anthony (toe) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (rest) were both cleared to play in this game, but Corey Joesph started at point guard again, while Anthony came off the bench. Anthony, who'd missed two straight games, lasted only six minutes before aggravating his injury, allowing Black to see more usage off the bench. This was Black's highest-scoring outing since Feb. 23, when he scored a season-high 23 points. Given the inconsistencies of his production and role, Black doesn't offer a ton of fantasy value, even if Anthony misses extended time.
Mar 5, 2025
Struggles continue Tuesday
Black supplied five points (1-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one steal over 15 minutes during Tuesday's 114-113 loss to Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Black logged just 15 minutes despite the fact the Magic are without both Jalen Suggs (knee) and Cole Anthony (toe). Given Cory Joseph was handed the starting role over Black, it's fair to assume the coaching staff don't have a lot of faith in Black just yet. At this point, it appears as though a consistent starting role is not on the cards.
Feb 24, 2025
Shines off bench Sunday
Black ended Sunday's 110-90 win over Washington with 23 points (7-12 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 5-5 FT), seven rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in 27 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Black carried the Magic in scoring and played a pivotal role in the win with a solid showing, particularly with his shooting from beyond the arc. This 23-point output matched his previous season-high mark, established in a Dec. 19 loss to the Thunder, and it was the fourth time he scored in double digits off the bench in his last six outings. Black is averaging 10.4 points per game while shooting 44 percent from deep since the beginning of February.
Feb 14, 2025
Four dimes in Rising Stars event
Black registered four points (2-5 FG) and four assists over 8:16 of court time in Team T's 40-34 loss to Team C.
ANALYSIS
Black tied Team C's Stephon Castle and Dalton Knecht in assists in Friday's semifinal. Black's efforts weren't enough for Team T to advance to the Rising Stars final for a shot at a spot in Sunday's All-Star event. Black entered the All-Star break having scored at least 15 points in three of his last five outings, and he's had a larger role for the Magic due to the recent absence of Jalen Suggs (quadriceps). Black and the Magic will hit the road for their first game after the break against the Hawks on Thursday, Feb. 20.
Feb 10, 2025
Plays 34 minutes against Atlanta
Black tallied six points (2-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one steal over 34 minutes during Monday's 112-106 loss to the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Black didn't exactly stuff the stat sheet Monday, but it was noticeable that he saw the floor far more than starting point guard Cole Anthony (15). Black was in the starting lineup in six of the Magic's 10 games prior to Monday's contest, and he could be in line for extended playing time (starting or off the bench) against the Hornets on Wednesday, especially if Jalen Suggs (quadriceps) is not able to play.
Feb 8, 2025
Pops for 20 points in win
Black notched 20 points (8-9 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 1-1 FT), one rebound, one assist and two steals over 27 minutes during Saturday's 112-111 victory over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Black tallied at least 20 points for just the third time this season, delivering arguably his best performance in almost two months. With Jalen Suggs sidelined due to a quadriceps injury, both Black and Cole Anthony have been able to churn out encouraging numbers. Despite still coming off the bench, Black should continue to do a lot of the ball handling, especially when running the second unit.
Feb 5, 2025
Retreats to bench vs. Sacramento
Black will come off the bench in Wednesday's game against the Kings.
ANALYSIS
After going scoreless in Monday's start against the Warriors, Black will cede his place in Orlando's starting lineup to Cole Anthony. Through 38 appearances from the Magic's bench, Black has averaged 9.0 points, 3.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks in 24.1 minutes, so he should still receive substantial minutes in the absence of Jalen Suggs (quadriceps) against Sacramento.
Jan 28, 2025
Records five steals
Black registered 14 points (6-11 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 0-1 FT), one rebound, three assists, one block and five steals over 42 minutes during Monday's 125-119 double-overtime loss to the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Black recorded a career-high five steals in an impressive all-around performance for the second-year guard. It's worth noting, however, that Jalen Suggs (back) could be cleared to return any day now, and that could limit Black's upside going forward. In 11 January outings, Black produced averages of 11.7 points, 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.6 three-pointers in 28.2 minutes.
Jan 27, 2025
Back in starting five Monday
Black will start in Monday's matchup against the Heat, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
With Jalen Suggs sidelined due to a left quad contusion, Black will step back into the starting lineup. The 21-year-old has started in five outings this season, during which he has averaged 11.0 points, 3.4 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 0.8 steals in 28.4 minutes per contest.
Jan 25, 2025
Back to bench Saturday
Black is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Pistons, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
The Magic will feature their full-strength lineup for the first time since Oct. 30, and just for the sixth time this season, as Jalen Suggs (back) will be back in the backcourt. Black should see decent minutes off the bench, though. He's averaging 25.7 minutes per game in seven outings off the bench in January.
Jan 22, 2025
Plays well as starter
Black chipped in 17 points (6-17 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and two steals across 36 minutes during Tuesday's 109-93 loss to the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Black was impressive in his fill-in start for Orlando with Cole Anthony sidelined by an illness. The second-year guard now has four starts to his name this season with averages of 10.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.8 three-pointers.
Jan 21, 2025
Starting Monday
Black will start Tuesday's game against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
With Jalen Suggs (back) and Cole Anthony (illness) out Tuesday, Black will get the starting nod at point guard for the Magic. Black has averaged 8.7 points, 3.3 assists and 2.0 rebounds in three starting appearances this season.
Jan 19, 2025
Shines off bench in defeat
Black supplied 14 points (5-10 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), one rebound, five assists, one block and two steals in 28 minutes during Sunday's 113-100 loss to Denver.
ANALYSIS
Black provided a nice lift off the Magic bench in Sunday's outing, leading all bench players in scoring while handing out a team-high-tying assist total and securing a pair of steals defensively. Black has posted at least 10 points and five dimes on eight occasions this season while now having tallied 14 or more points in eight contests.
Jan 13, 2025
Stuffs stat sheet in win
Black logged 16 points (7-18 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-6 FT), six rebounds, six assists and two steals in 37 minutes of play during Sunday's 102-99 win over the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Black has shown flashes of brilliance this season, and tonight was one of those nights for the second-year guard. He contributed across the board, which should please fantasy managers who played him in category leagues. However, Black is certainly benefitting from starter Jalen Suggs (back) being out, and even then he's remained unpredictable during Suggs' absence. He'll look to keep rolling Wednesday against the Bucks.
Jan 7, 2025
Plays 26 minutes in return
Black (back) tallied nine points (1-5 FG, 7-8 FT), five assists, two steals and one rebound across 26 minutes Monday in the Magic's 103-94 win over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Black made his return in a bench role after missing the Magic's previous four contests with a low back contusion. He's been active in getting to the free-throw line over his last two appearances and has converted 12 of his 13 attempts overall between those contests, but the second-year guard's low usage rate and typically poor shooting from the field limits his overall fantasy appeal. Black will likely lose out on some playing time if the Magic get at least one of Jalen Suggs (back), Paolo Banchero (oblique) or Gary Harris (hamstring) back for their next game Thursday versus the TImberwolves.
Jan 6, 2025
Not on injury report
Black (back) is available for Monday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Black was also available Sunday against the Jazz, but he never saw the floor. Whether or not he receives any playing time remains to be seen, but the guard is not appearing on the injury report.
Jan 5, 2025
Back continues to be problem
Black (back) did not play during Sunday's 105-92 loss to Utah, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though Black was not inserted into Orlando's starting lineup Sunday, there was optimism he would play off the bench against Utah. Instead, he sat out completely because of his lower-back contusion, with the Magic heavily relying on Cole Anthony at point guard with Jalen Suggs (back) also out. Orlando head coach Jamahl Mosley was quoted saying "we're going to have to look at some more time, some more pre-game reps to be able to look at it the right way," suggesting he may not be available when the Magic are expected to play against the Knicks on Monday.
Jan 5, 2025
Coming off bench in return
Black is not in the Magic's starting lineup against the Jazz on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Black was in Orlando's starting five Dec. 27 against New York. Despite Jalen Suggs (back) being ruled out for Sunday's game, Black will come off the bench following a three-game absence due to a back contusion while Cole Anthony gets his first start of the 2024-25 regular season.
Jan 5, 2025
Will play against Utah
Black (back) is available for Sunday's game against the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Black will return Sunday from a four-game absence due to a back contusion. He'll likely be inserted into the starting lineup due to Jalen Suggs (back) and Gary Harris (hamstring) being ruled out. In the 10 games prior to his injury, Black averaged 9.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 0.9 steals over 24.2 minutes per contest.
Jan 4, 2025
Iffy for Sunday
Black (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Black is in danger of missing his fourth straight contest Sunday due to a back contusion. With Jalen Suggs (back) and Gary Harris (hamstring) already ruled out against Utah, Cole Anthony and Cory Joseph could receive increased playing time.
Jan 3, 2025
Won't play against Toronto
Black (back) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Raptors, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Black will miss a third straight game due to a back injury, and his next opportunity to play will be against the Jazz on Sunday. Gary Harris, Jett Howard, Trevelin Queen and Caleb Houstan will continue to see extended playing time off the bench for as long as Black is sidelined.
Jan 2, 2025
Iffy for Friday
Black (back) has been listed as questionable for Friday's game against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Black has missed the last two games for Orlando while dealing with a bruised back. Jalen Suggs has seen a significant bump in minutes on the floor for the Magic and that will likely continue if Black misses Friday's game in Toronto.
Jan 1, 2025
Won't play Wednesday
Black (back) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Pistons, source reports.
ANALYSIS
Black didn't practice Tuesday and will miss a second straight game due to back spasms. On Sunday, Wendell Carter moved into the starting lineup in Black's absence. Black's next chance to suit up will come Friday in Toronto.
Dec 31, 2024
Iffy for Wednesday
Black (back) is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Black missed Sunday's win over the Nets due to back spasms and didn't practice Tuesday, so his questionable tag seems more like doubtful. If Black misses again, Cole Anthony and Gary Harris would be candidates for increased roles.
Dec 31, 2024
Misses practice Tuesday
Black (back) did not practice Tuesday, Dan Savage of the Magic's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Black missed his first outing of the season due to back spasms Sunday against the Nets, and his inability to practice Tuesday doesn't bode well for his status against the Pistons on Wednesday. The good news for Orlando is that Jalen Suggs was able to practice Tuesday after being diagnosed with a wrist sprain that he suffered against the Nets.
Dec 29, 2024
Sidelined Sunday
Black (back) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Black will miss his first outing of the season due to back spasms. With the 20-year-old sidelined, Trevelin Queen and Cole Anthony are candidates for increased roles. Black's next chance to feature will come Wednesday against the Pistons.
Dec 29, 2024
Questionable Sunday
Black (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Black is questionable for Sunday's contest due to back spasms. The 20-year-old has carved out a significant role in the Magic's rotation this year, and if he is sidelined, Trevelin Queen and Cole Anthony are candidates for increased roles.
Dec 28, 2024
Nears double figures in start
Black closed Friday's 108-85 loss to the Knicks with nine points (2-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 5-5 FT), three rebounds, two assists and one steal over 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Black got the starting nod over Trevelin Queen in Friday's contest, making his third start of the season and ending one point short of the double-digit mark. In his three starts this season, Black has averaged 8.7 points, 3.3 assists and 2.0 rebounds per contest.
Dec 27, 2024
Back in starting five on Friday
Black will start in Friday's game against the Knicks, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
The second-year pro will supplant Trevelin Queen in the starting lineup for Friday's contest. Black has started in two games this season, during which he has averaged 8.5 points, 4.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds across 22.5 minutes per contest.
Dec 21, 2024
Starting vs. Miami
Black is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
The Magic will be depleted for this matchup since they'll be missing three regular starters in Jalen Suggs (ankle), Franz Wagner (oblique) and Paolo Banchero (oblique), so Black will be tasked with having a prominent role on offense while holding a starting role in the backcourt. Black has started just once this season prior to Saturday, as he recorded seven points, two rebounds and six assists across 27 minutes in a 120-109 loss to the Cavaliers on Nov. 1.
Dec 20, 2024
Paces scoring attack
Black provided 23 points (8-14 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-5 FT), one rebound, three assists and one steal over 31 minutes during Thursday's 105-99 loss to Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Black turned in his best scoring performance through 29 games this season and did so in an impressive fashion. Jalen Suggs picked up an ankle injury and was held out for much of the second half, which opened up the floor for an uptick in opportunities on the offensive end for Black, who could slot in as the team's starting point guard if Suggs is forced to miss additional time.
Dec 11, 2024
Strong two-way performance
Black registered 17 points (6-12 FG, 5-8 FT), six rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals across 32 minutes during Tuesday's 114-109 loss to the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Black logged a season-high 32 minutes, turning in one of his better performances of the season. With both Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner sidelined due to oblique injuries, Black has an opportunity to step into a larger role, at least for another week or two. While he has increased his production across multiple categories this season, consistency remains an issue.
Dec 5, 2024
Game-high seven assists off bench
Black finished Wednesday's 106-102 win over the 76ers with 10 points (5-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt), five rebounds and seven assists in 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
It was Black's first time in double scoring figures since a Nov. 25 win over Charlotte, and his seven assists were his most since a Nov. 20 loss to the Clippers. The former first-rounder remains fairly raw offensively, so his production can be erratic, but he's clearly starting to pull away from Cole Anthony as head coach Jamahl Mosley's preferred backup point guard. Over his last 10 contests, Black is averaging 8.6 points, 3.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 0.8 three-pointers in 23.0 minutes per game. He should continue to orchestrate Orlando's second unit on offense and play disruptive defense off the bench going forward.
Nov 23, 2024
Starts in second half Saturday
Black ended Saturday's 111-100 win over the Pistons with 11 points (3-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), one rebound, five assists and two steals across 32 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Black started in the second half of Saturday's game after Jalen Suggs suffered a hamstring injury in the first quarter. Black scored seven of his 11 points in the second half, and he could be inserted into the Magic's starting lineup against the Hornets on Monday if Suggs is unable to play.
Nov 21, 2024
Logs team-high 17 points from bench
Black ended Wednesday's 104-93 loss to the Clippers with 17 points (5-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 5-9 FT), eight assists and one block in 29 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Black is getting increased court time and production due to a few factors. Cole Anthony is his only real competition for backup minutes, and the sluggish play from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has forced the team to provide more spark from the second unit. Black's upward trend could result in a major lineup change for the Magic if Caldwell-Pope is unable recover from his production tailspin.
Nov 19, 2024
Shows up with 20 points from bench
Black logged 20 points (5-10 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 7-8 FT), four rebounds, nine assists and three steals across 33 minutes during Monday's 109-99 win over the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Black posted a season-high 20 point in the win, blowing way past his previous high of 12 points. Black is carving out a larger role in his sophomore season after averaging only 16.9 minutes per game during his rookie campaign. The 2023 first-round pick has the goods to be an eventual starter, but the Arkansas product will remain behind Jalen Suggs on the depth chart for the foreseeable future.
Nov 14, 2024
Tallies season-high four steals
Black contributed six points (2-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, six assists, one block and four steals over 25 minutes during Wednesday's 94-90 win over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Despite not being a volume scorer, Black continues to make a positive impact off Orlando's bench. The second-year guard's four steals were a season-high and he also tied his most assists in a game this year with six. Across his 13 appearances in 2024-25, Black is averaging 7.9 points, 4.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 24.6 minutes.
Nov 6, 2024
Best outing of season off bench
Black contributed 12 points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-6 FT), six assists and two steals over 27 minutes during Wednesday's 118-111 loss to Indiana.
ANALYSIS
Black led all Magic players in minutes played off the bench Wednesday, and he took advantage of that extra time while putting together his best performance of the young season. Black led all Orlando players with a pair of steals while handing out a team-high-tying assist total and concluding as one of two Magic bench players in double figures in scoring. Black set a new season high in scoring, now reaching the double-digit mark in four outings.
Nov 3, 2024
Not starting Sunday
Black won't start Sunday's game against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Black moved into the starting lineup to replace Paolo Banchero (oblique) on Friday, but Tristan da Silva will take Black's spot Sunday. Over six appearances, Black has averaged 8.2 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 25.8 minutes per game.
Oct 31, 2024
Dishes out career-high six assists
Black contributed four points (1-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, six assists, three blocks and one steal in 23 minutes during Wednesday's 102-99 loss to Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Black has been the Magic's primary backup point guard to Jalen Suggs to begin the season. Across Black's first five appearances in 2024-25, he is averaging 8.4 points, 4.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 25.6 minutes.
Oct 24, 2024
Provides spark off bench
Black totaled 10 points (4-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-3 FT), six rebounds and four assists across 28 minutes during Wednesday's 116-97 win over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Black actually played the second-most minutes behind Paolo Banchero for Orlando in Wednesday's win as the Magic started to pull away from the Heat in the second half. Black had a relatively quiet rookie season but should continue to operate as one of the team's primary bench options in the backcourt.
Oct 10, 2024
Solid display off bench
Black finished with 11 points (3-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 4-5 FT), six rebounds and an assist across 19 minutes off the bench in Wednesday's 107-97 preseason loss to the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Black was one of two Orlando players who scored in double digits in this loss, with Jett Howard, who delivered a team-high 19 points, being the other. Black has shown glimpses of his quality in Orlando's first two preseason games. Still, and regardless of how good he looks in these games, he's ticketed to open the season as a depth option in the backcourt since Jalen Suggs and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will be the starting duo at the one and two, respectively.
Oct 4, 2024
Team option picked up
Orlando exercised its third-year team option on Black's contract Friday, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Black will likely be returning to Orlando next season after the club extended him for his third year. The 20-year-old played a decent amount his rookie season, during which he averaged 4.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists across 16.9 minutes per game in 69 regular-season appearances (33 starts).
Mar 10, 2024
Back to bench
Black won't start Sunday's game against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Jalen Suggs (thigh) and Markelle Fultz (knee) are out again, but Black will be replaced in the starting lineup by Caleb Houstan on Sunday. As a reserve this season (23 games), Black has averaged 5.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 15.8 minutes.
Mar 6, 2024
Gets starting nod
Black is in the starting five for Wednesday's game versus the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Black will replace Gary Harris (calf) in the starting lineup Wednesday. The rookie guard is averaging 5.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 22.1 minutes across his last 10 starting appearances.
Feb 27, 2024
Moves back to bench
Black isn't in the starting five for Tuesday's game versus the Nets, Dan Savage of the Magic's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Black will be replaced by Gary Harris (calf) in the starting lineup Tuesday. The rookie guard is averaging 3.0 points and 1.2 rebounds in 10.8 minutes across his last five appearances coming off the bench.
Feb 25, 2024
Starting Sunday
Black is in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Black is set for his 31st start of the season, which have yielded 5.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists in 0.6 steals in 21.3 minutes per game. He is joined by Jalen Suggs, Franz Wagner, Wendell Carter and Goga Bitadze in the first unit on a night when Orlando is down Paolo Banchero (illness) and Gary Harris (calf).
Feb 22, 2024
Not in starting lineup
Black isn't starting Thursday's game against the Cavaliers, Dan Savage of the Magic's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Black drew a start in Orlando's final game before the All-Star break and logged four points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal in 23 minutes. However, he'll retreat to the bench since Jalen Suggs (groin) and Gary Harris (calf) are back in action Thursday.
Feb 15, 2024
Does little in spot start Wednesday
Black finished with four points (2-7 FG, 0-2 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists and one steal across 23 minutes during Wednesday's 118-100 victory over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
After falling out of the rotation as of late, Black was inserted into the starting lineup Wednesday with Jalen Suggs (groin), Markelle Fultz (rest) and Gary Harris (calf) all sidelined. Black wasn't able to do much with his extended minutes, however, as most of the offensive firepower came from Franz Wagner and All-Star Paolo Banchero. Black figures to return to a deep bench role once his Magic teammates return from injuries.
Feb 14, 2024
Draws start Wednesday
Black is starting Wednesday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Black hasn't been part of Orlando's rotation in recent matchups, but he'll draw the start Wednesday since Markelle Fultz (rest), Gary Harris (calf) and Jalen Suggs (groin) have been ruled out. Over 29 starts this year, Black has averaged 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game.
Jan 30, 2024
Efficient scorer off bench
Black totaled 20 points (7-9 FG, 4-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, one assist and one block over 30 minutes during Monday's 131-129 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Black missed just two shots from the field and delivered instant offense off the bench, but his contributions were not enough to secure the victory against a Mavericks team led by a red-hot Luka Doncic. Black has endured a fair share of struggles in his rookie year, and in fact, this was just the sixth time he scored in double digits all season long. He's averaging just 6.3 points per game when deployed off the bench, so it wouldn't be surprising if this was just an odd explosive outing for him.
Jan 26, 2024
Back to bench
Black won't start Friday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Black will return to the bench in favor of Markelle Fultz, who's returning to action after missing Monday's game due to rest. As a reserve (11 games), Black has averaged 5.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals-plus-blocks in 15.4 minutes per game.
Jan 22, 2024
Joins starting lineup
Black is starting Monday's game against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Black has come off the bench in eight of his last nine appearances, but he'll make his 29th start of the season Monday due to Markelle Fultz (rest) being out. Black has averaged 5.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 21.4 minutes per game over his previous starts this year.
Jan 15, 2024
Won't start after all
Black isn't starting Monday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
A previous report had Black returning to the starting lineup in place of Chuma Okeke, but Orlando will stick with the same first five they've had the previous four games, meaning Jalen Suggs, Caleb Houstan, Paolo Banchero and Goga Bitadze will start alongside Okeke. Black posted 13 points in 33 minutes off the bench during a losing effort versus Oklahoma City on Saturday, but he's still averaging just 4.2 points per game over his last four appearances as a reserve.
Jan 15, 2024
Returns to starting lineup
Black will start Monday's game against the Knicks, Philip Rossman-Reich of OrlandoMagicDaily.com reports.
ANALYSIS
From Nov. 4 through Jan. 5, Black started 28 of 30 games, averaging 5.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 21.4 minutes during that stretch. He operated off the bench in each of the last four games, and after three poor outings, he posted 13 points, four rebounds, a steal and a block in 33 minutes against the Thunder on Saturday. He'll look to build off that momentum versus New York. In a corresponding move, Chuma Okeke will head to the bench.
Jan 7, 2024
Available off bench
Black (illness) is available but will operate off the bench during Sunday's game against the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Black might still be under the weather, so he'll shift to a reserve role, while Chuma Okeke and Caleb Houstan start alongside Jalen Suggs, Paolo Banchero and Goga Bitadze. Black has made five appearances as a reserve this season, averaging 6.4 points in 13.4 minutes per game.
Jan 6, 2024
Iffy for Sunday
Black (illness) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Black is in danger of missing Sunday's contest due to a non-COVID illness that caused him to leave Friday's game early. If the rookie guard is ruled out, Cole Anthony will likely receive increased playing time.
Jan 5, 2024
Will not return against Denver
Black (illness) will not return to Friday's game versus Denver. He finished scoreless with one assist in five minutes.
ANALYSIS
Black carried a questionable tag into Friday's game before getting the green light to play. However, he didn't look right and lasted just five minutes before subbing himself out for good. Presumably, Black tried his best to give it a go Friday with the Magic having only nine available players prior to tipoff. He should be considered questionable for Sunday's game versus Atlanta.
Jan 5, 2024
Starting against Denver
Black (illness) is in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Denver.
ANALYSIS
Black was a late addition to the injury report and was previously considered questionable, but he'll attempt to play anyways. The Magic are extremely shorthanded Friday, so Black could see a significant amount of minutes if he can handle it.
Jan 5, 2024
Added to injury report
Black is now questionable for Friday's game against Denver, Wendell Epps of Bally Sports Florida reports.
ANALYSIS
Black is a late addition to the injury report, as several players are feeling under the weather for the Magic. The rookie guard will warm up and is considered a game-time call. Cole Anthony could potentially see a massive workload if Black is held out.
Jan 3, 2024
Coming off bench
Black won't start Wednesday's game against the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Black will come off the bench for the first time since Nov. 9 after playing just 13 minutes Tuesday. Despite his removal from the first unit, Black should still handle a significant role as a reserve ball handler due to Cole Anthony's (quad) absence.
Jan 3, 2024
Disappears in starting role
Black racked up zero points (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one steal across 13 minutes during Tuesday's 121-115 loss to Golden State.
ANALYSIS
While the Magic are happy to have Jalen Suggs back, the backcourt is having trouble putting points on the board. Black seemed to have the edge over Cole Anthony, but he's hit a four-game slump after posting one of the best games of his career.against Washington. The first-round pick is bound to go through some growing pains, and the Magic will likely stick with him despite the tepid output.
Dec 27, 2023
Efficient scorer in win
Black closed with 23 points (9-13 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), six rebounds, one assist and four steals across 33 minutes during Tuesday's 127-119 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Black has proven to be able to deliver solid outings from time to time, but the lack of consistency on a game-to-game basis conspires against his upside. He is expected to remain in the starting unit with Markelle Fultz (knee) sidelined, but his overall numbers make him a less-than-appealing fantasy alternative outside of deep formats and weak DFS slates.
Dec 16, 2023
Best game of season Friday
Black totaled 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-5 3Pt), nine rebounds and four assists over 28 minutes during Friday's 128-111 loss to Boston.
ANALYSIS
Black had his best game of the season Friday, posting career-best numbers in points, rebounds and assists despite the 17-point defeat. The Magic have been patient with Black amid the growing pains in his rookie year, and while he should remain in a starting role as long as Markelle Fultz (knee) remains sidelined, his fantasy upside remains limited -- in a best-case scenario. At this point, he's little more than a potential streaming alternative in DFS slates, though he does have a bit more upside in fantasy formats.
Dec 7, 2023
Struggles again in start
Black amassed 11 points (5-5 FG, 1-1 FT) over 15 minutes during Wednesday's 121-111 loss to the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Black played just 15 minutes despite starting, continuing his poor run of production. Although he has been the primary fill-in for Markelle Fultz (knee), it's been a tale of woe when it comes to his fantasy value. At this point, there is no reason to consider him, even in deeper formats.
Nov 21, 2023
Starting role yields little
Black chipped in five points (2-7 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one steal across 23 minutes during Tuesday's 126-107 victory over Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Black continues to start for the Magic but to this point, has failed to make the most of his situation. He has been in the opening unit for six consecutive games and yet has scored a total of 25 points, adding eight assists. Despite the starting tag, Black is not worth rostering outside of very deep formats.
Nov 16, 2023
Struggles in start
Black closed with seven points (3-8 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds and two assists over 27 minutes during Wednesday's 96-94 win over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Despite starting for the fifth time in the past six games, Black failed to produce anything of note. He has managed to score double-digits only once all season, adding very little in terms of peripheral stats. Markelle Fultz (knee) has already been ruled out Friday meaning Black will likely remain in the opening unit. With that said, to this point he has not flashed enough to be considered anything but a deeper league stream target.
Nov 11, 2023
Gets starting nod
Black is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game versus Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
With Marke Fultz (knee) being a late scratch, Black will replace him in the starting lineup. The rookie guard is averaging 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 31.5 minutes across his previous two starts this season.
Nov 9, 2023
Back to bench
Black will move back to the bench for Thursday's game against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Markelle Fultz is back with the starters after sitting the past three games. Black wasn't in the rotation to begin the season, so it will be interesting to see if he gets any reps with the second unit.
Nov 5, 2023
Scores 11 points in first start
Black tallied 11 points (4-6 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four rebounds, two assists and one steal across 30 minutes in Saturday's 120-101 win over the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Making his first career start while Markelle Fultz (knee) was sidelined, Black played turnover-free basketball over his 30 minutes of court time but took on a minuscule 8.2 percent usage rate, the lowest among all nine of the Magic's rotation players on the day. Though his fantasy value will be on the upswing if Fultz misses more time, Black's line from Saturday doesn't inspire much confidence that he'll offer major upside during his rookie season.
Nov 4, 2023
Set to make first career start
Black is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game versus the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Black will replace Markelle Fultz (knee) in the starting five Saturday. The rookie guard has had a limited role to start the season, averaging just 4.7 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 8.3 minutes across his first three appearances. However, Black will get the chance to run the offense alongside Jalen Suggs in the backcourt Saturday.
Nov 3, 2023
Plays 16 minutes in win
Black totaled nine points (4-4 FG, 1-3 FT), three rebounds, one assist and two steals in 16 minutes during Thursday's 115-113 win over the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Gary Harris, who started the contest in place of Markelle Fultz (knee), suffered a groin injury in the first half and didn't return. Joe Ingles started the second half in place of Harris, but Cole Anthony and Black were the ones who stepped their production up. If Harris and Fultz remain sidelined, it's possible Black will be able to carve out a 20-minute bench role moving forward.
Oct 26, 2023
Plays five minutes Wednesday
Black logged five points (2-2 FG, 1-1 FT), one assist and two blocks over five minutes during Wednesday's 116-86 win over Houston.
ANALYSIS
Black was the sixth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and put together some encouraging performances in Summer League play, but he saw limited minutes during Wednesday's regular-season opener. Despite Black's limited workload, Jalen Suggs and Gary Harris both played under 22 minutes, so it's possible the rookie can carve out a larger role as he adjusts to the NBA level.
Jul 12, 2023
Nabs 14 boards
Black registered eight points (3-10 FG, 0-2 3PT, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds, four assists, one steal and two blocks in 34 minutes of Wednesday's 82-80 Summer League loss to the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Though Black struggled from the field, he came through in crunch time, tipping in Jett Howard's missed three-pointer at the buzzer to push the contest into overtime. He was a dominant force on the glass, finishing with a team-high 14 rebounds while also swatting a pair of shots. Though Black has struggled with efficiency, his ability to contribute as a rebounder and defender will help him contribute for the Magic early on.
Jul 10, 2023
Struggles with efficiency
Black tallied eight points (3-12 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-6 FT), seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in 27 minutes during Monday's 108-85 Summer League loss to Indiana.
ANALYSIS
Black didn't turn the ball over Monday, but his efficiency is one of his biggest concerns heading into his rookie season. The No. 6 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft has flashed his defensive potential, as he has recorded at least two steals in both of his Summer League outings.
Jul 9, 2023
Shows out in summer opener
Black recorded 17 points (7-10 FG, 1-2 3PT, 2-3 FT), five rebounds, five assists and three steals across 28 minutes of Saturday's 89-78 Summer League loss to Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Black looked extremely comfortable in his first taste of NBA action, getting to the basket consistently and utilizing his length to score over taller defenders. The 6-foot-7 guard also showcased his court vision, dishing out a team-high five assists and being a positive contributor on the glass. Though the performance was largely a success, Black did cough up seven turnovers, which is something he'll look to improve upon in Orlando's next contest, which will come Monday against Indiana.
