Clint Capela Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the L.A. Clippers vs Rockets game on Thursday with our National Basketball Association injury report.Dec 6, 2025
Draws start Saturday
Capela will start Saturday's game against the Mavericks, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Alperen Sengun is out with an illness, and Steven Adams is getting the night off for maintenance. Capela is a strong streaming option for fantasy managers in need of rebounds, blocks and field-goal percentage against the Mavericks.
Dec 1, 2025
Plays 14 minutes in win
Capela logged six points (3-4 FG), three rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 14 minutes during Sunday's 129-101 victory over the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Capela's role has been very inconsistent this season, as he is the third string center behind Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams. In games where Capela plays at least 14 minutes, he averages 5.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.2 blocks, but it is unknown how much time he will play on a game-to-game basis, making him an unreliable fantasy option in most leagues.
Nov 22, 2025
Fails to score in four minutes
Capela had zero points (0-2 FG) and one steal in four minutes during Friday's 112-109 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been nothing more than an afterthought thus far this season, playing as the third-string center behind Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams. In 13 appearances, he is averaging 3.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 9.7 minutes per game.
Nov 10, 2025
Another quiet outing
Capela finished with four points (2-4 FG), four rebounds and one steal over seven minutes during Sunday's 122-115 victory over the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Capela has not been a factor in Houston's rotation, averaging 10.0 minutes per game and remains behind Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams on the depth chart. As long as those two are healthy, it appears that Capela will continue to operate as the team's third string center.
Nov 1, 2025
Muted role continues
Capela finished with four points (1-3 FG, 2-4 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 18 minutes during Saturday's 128-101 victory over the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Capela logged a season-high 18 minutes, grabbing double-digit boards for the first time this season. Playing as the third-string center, Capela's time as a viable fantasy asset appears to have come to an end. Through five games, he is averaging just 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 9.9 minutes per game.
Oct 28, 2025
Productive in 14 minutes
Capela logged eight points (4-4 FG), one rebound and two blocks over 14 minutes during Monday's 137-109 victory over the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Capela continues to see a minor role in the frontcourt to open the season. Both Steven Adams and Capela were brought off the bench Monday, as the Rockets opted for a smaller starting lineup with Josh Okogie getting the nod. As long as Alperen Sengun and Adams are healthy, Capela won't have a big runway for fantasy value.
Oct 22, 2025
Sees eight minutes
Capela chipped in four points (1-1 FG, 2-2 FT) and one steal over eight minutes during Tuesday's 125-124 double-overtime loss to Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
The Rockets started a jumbo lineup of Steven Adams and Alperen Sengun in the front court Tuesday, but coach Ime Udoka has previously said that lineups could be fluid based on matchups. Still, it's pretty telling that Capela logged just eight minutes in this double-overtime loss. There will likely be some games where Capela is way more involved, and it's worth noting that Adams is expected to have a maintenance plan as well. But if Tuesday was any indication, Capela's fantasy appeal isn't the greatest as things currently stand.
Oct 20, 2025
Off report for Opening Night
Capela (rest) is off the Rockets' injury report for Tuesday's game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Capela sat out Thursday's preseason finale but will return to game action for Houston's regular-season opener. The veteran big man is expected to provide frontcourt depth behind Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams this season, though he isn't guaranteed significant playing time.
Oct 16, 2025
Won't suit up Thursday
Capela (rest) won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Hawks, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Along with most of Houston's regulars, Capela will sit out the team's preseason finale. The 31-year-old center's next chance to play will come in Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Thunder.
Oct 9, 2025
Nearly double-doubles
Capela put up eight points (3-8 FG, 2-4 FT), seven rebounds and two assists in 18 minutes of Wednesday's 140-127 preseason win over Utah.
ANALYSIS
Steven Adams got the night off for rest after playing 16 minutes in the preseason opener Monday. In that same game, Capela once again saw 18 minutes. The starters haven't seen full workloads yet, but it seems likely that Capela is heading towards a role with minutes in the teens with how crowded the frontcourt is. For what it's worth, coach Ime Udoka has talked about using double-center lineups at times with Capela and Adams spending some time alongside Alperen Sengun.
Jun 30, 2025
Signs deal with Houston
Capela (hand) agreed to a three-year, $21.5 million deal with the Rockets on Monday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will return to Houston, where he spent the first six years of his career. However, he's expected to compete for minutes with Steven Adams behind Alperen Sengun. Over 55 regular-season outings (41 starts) with Atlanta in 2024-25, Capela averaged 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 blocks across 21.4 minutes per game. The veteran big man missed the Hawks' final 17 regular-season games due to a sprained left hand but is expected to be ready for training camp.
Apr 14, 2025
Won't play Tuesday
Capela (hand) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Magic, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss an 18th straight game for the Hawks due to a sprained left hand. Atlanta will continue to turn to Onyeka Okongwu, Dominick Barlow and Mouhamed Gueye to shoulder the load at the center position heading into the Play-In Tournament on Tuesday.
Mar 21, 2025
To be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks
Capela underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed a ligament injury in the fourth metacarpal of his left hand, and he is slated to be re-evaluated in 3-to-4 weeks, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
ANALYSIS
It's unclear when Capela sustained the injury, though he has missed the club's last four games due to what the club labeled as personal reasons. The big man is unlikely to suit up for the remainder of the season based on his timetable, meaning Dominick Barlow could see a bump in minutes behind Onyeka Okongwu moving forward. If Capela's season ends up being cut short, he'll finish with averages of 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.0 blocks and 0.6 steals across 21.4 minutes per game in 55 regular-season appearances.
Mar 17, 2025
Not playing Tuesday
Capela (personal) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Hornets, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Tuesday will be the fourth game in a row that Capela will miss while attending to a personal matter. There's no clear timeline for his return, but his next opportunity to do so is Saturday against Golden State.
Mar 15, 2025
Won't be available Sunday
Capela (personal) is out for Sunday's game against the Nets, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is set to miss a third straight game due to personal reasons, and there's no clear timetable for his return. His next chance to suit up will come against the Hornets, but there's no clarity on when he'll return to the hardwood.
Mar 14, 2025
Remains out Friday
Capela (personal) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Clippers, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss his second consecutive contest due to personal reasons. His next chance to play will come Sunday against Brooklyn. Dominick Barlow and Mouhamed Gueye are candidates for an uptick in playing time due to Capela being sidelined.
Mar 13, 2025
Questionable for Friday
Capela (personal) is questionable to play Friday against the Clippers, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela also missed Wednesday's game due to personal reasons, and is in danger of missing Friday's as well. Capela has been a valuable member of the bench ever since being relegated to the second unit Jan. 20, averaging 7.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.9 blocks and 0.6 steals over 17.4 minutes. However, if he can't go, expect Dominick Barlow to see extended run backing up Onyeka Okongwu.
Mar 12, 2025
Won't play Wednesday
Capela has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Hornets due to personal reasons, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is slated to miss his first game since the All-Star break. He's played more than 20 minutes only once over his last 10 appearances, but in Capela's absence, Dominick Barlow is a candidate for a bigger reserve role behind Onyeka Okongwu.
Mar 4, 2025
Scores 11 in win
Capela totaled 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-6 FT), four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 16 minutes in Monday's 132-130 win over the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Capela had a solid impact on offense Monday, scoring in double figures for the first time since returning from a back injury Jan. 28. The 30-year-old had been the unquestioned starting center for the Hawks dating back to 2020 and through the first 41 games this season, but he's since taken a back seat to Onyeka Okongwu. In 10 games coming off the bench, Capela is averaging 8.1 points and 7.1 rebounds in 17.4 minutes.
Feb 21, 2025
Plays 18 minutes in return
Capela had three points (1-6 FG, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one block in 18 minutes during Thursday's 114-108 loss to Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Capela returned to action Thursday following a nine-game absence due to a back injury. He'll likely continue to come off the bench for the Hawks while Onyeka Okongwu serves as Atlanta's starting center. Capela has averaged 8.4 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks over 20.6 minutes per game since the beginning of January.
Feb 19, 2025
Available vs. Orlando
Capela (back) has been cleared to play in Thursday's game against the Magic.
ANALYSIS
After missing nine straight games with a back issue, Capela will return to the floor Thursday against Orlando. The veteran big man's return to the Hawks' lineup will be a massive boost in the frontcourt. He's averaging nearly a double-double with 9.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 blocks per game, shooting 57.3 percent from the floor.
Feb 12, 2025
Late scratch Wednesday
Capela will be inactive for Wednesday's game against the Knicks, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Quin Snyder says Capela is ramping up and will continue to do so through the All-Star break, which surprisingly rules the veteran big man out Wednesday despite having been omitted from Atlanta's injury report. His next chance to play comes Feb. 20 against the Magic. Onyeka Okongwu will hang on to enhanced fantasy value for at least one more game, as he's averaged 13.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.8 blocks in 28.6 minutes over nine games with Capela unavailable this season.
Feb 11, 2025
Off injury report for Wednesday
Capela (personal) is off the injury report for Wednesday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Capela has missed eight straight games due to a back injury and personal reasons, but he's set to be available for the Hawks on Wednesday. The veteran big man's return is bad news for the fantasy appeal of Onyeka Okongwu, who appears likely to shift back to Atlanta's second unit. Capela has averaged 9.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 21.0 minutes over his last nine games.
Feb 10, 2025
Ruled out Monday vs. Orlando
Capela (undisclosed) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Magic, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Monday will be the eighth game in a row that Capela has been sidelined. He had missed two games due to a personal matter, but it's unclear whether his current absence is related to that. Regardless, Capela's next chance to play will be Wednesday against the Knicks.
Feb 9, 2025
Off injury report for Monday
Capela (undisclosed) is not on the Hawks' injury report for Monday's game against Orlando, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is off the injury report following a seven-game absence due to a back issue and personal reasons. The big man will likely compete for playing time with Larry Nance behind starting center Onyeka Okongwu.
Feb 8, 2025
Late scratch Saturday
Capela (undisclosed) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Wizards, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was set to return from a six-game absence Saturday, but he will instead have to wait until Monday against the Magic. He missed Friday's win over the Bucks due to personal reasons, though it's unclear whether that's the reason for his absence Saturday.
Feb 8, 2025
Returning Saturday
Capela (personal) was not listed on the Hawks' injury report ahead of Saturday's game against the Wizards, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has missed the Hawks' last six games due to a back injury and for personal reasons, but he's been cleared to return for Saturday's contest. Capela was moved to the bench Jan. 20 in favor of Onyeka Okongwu, and the former has averaged 10.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks over 19.0 minutes per game over his last four outings in a reserve role.
Feb 6, 2025
Out for personal reasons
Capela (personal) is out for Friday's game against the Bucks, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing five straight games due to a back injury, Capela is now being listed as out for Friday due to personal reasons. The veteran big man will aim to rejoin the team on the second leg of Atlanta's back-to-back, which comes Saturday in Washington. Onyeka Okongwu should continue delivering enhanced fantasy value from the Hawks' starting lineup, as he's averaging 15.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.8 blocks in 29.1 minutes over six games where Capela has been unavailable this season.
Feb 4, 2025
Not playing Wednesday vs. Spurs
Capela (back) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Capela was sidelined for the Hawks' three-game road trip due to back spasms. The injury has persisted into the Hawks' current homestand and will result in him missing his fifth straight game. Capela's next chance to take the floor for Atlanta will be in Friday's home bout against Milwaukee. Onyeka Okongwu will continue to see the bulk of the Hawks' center minutes as the starter while Larry Nance and Dominick Barlow serve in rotation.
Jan 30, 2025
Not on road trip with team
Capela (back) is reportedly not with the Hawks during their current road trip, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela not being with Atlanta during their road trip is concerning news for the team, which is already dealing with some injuries, especially with Jalen Johnson (shoulder) recently being ruled out for the rest of the season. Due to this latest development, Larry Nance, Dominick Barlow and Mouhamed Gueye could see an increased workload in the frontcourt behind Onyeka Okongwu.
Jan 29, 2025
Ruled out for Thursday
Capela (back) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss a second straight game for the Hawks on Thursday as he deals with back spasms. Atlanta could turn to Larry Nance and Mouhamed Gueye to help shoulder the load in the frontcourt with the veteran big man on the mend.
Jan 28, 2025
Late scratch Tuesday
Capela has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against Houston due to back spasms, Mike Conti of the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was not listed on the injury report for Tuesday's game at any point, though he'll be a late scratch due to the back issue. With the veteran big man sidelined, Larry Nance and Mouhamed Gueye could see increased minutes behind Onyeka Okongwu.
Jan 25, 2025
Will play against Toronto
Capela (knee) has been cleared to play in Saturday's game against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Capela missed Thursday's loss to the Raptors with knee soreness but will be back on the floor Saturday for the second straight matchup against Toronto. The veteran big man has seen a dip in minutes and production on the floor this season for the Hawks, averaging 9.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game, shooting 57.2 percent from the floor in 22.7 minutes per contest.
Jan 25, 2025
Goes through shootaround
Capela (knee) participated in shootaround ahead of Saturday's game versus the Raptors, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is officially listed as probable for Saturday's contest after missing Atlanta's previous outing due to right knee soreness. All signs point to the veteran big man suiting up against Toronto.
Jan 24, 2025
Probable for Saturday
Capela (knee) is probable for Saturday's game against Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Capela is expected to suit up for Saturday's rematch after missing Thursday's loss to Toronto due to right knee soreness. The veteran big man has averaged 9.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks across 20.6 minutes per game over his last five outings (three starts).
Jan 23, 2025
Won't play Thursday
Capela is out for Thursday's game versus the Raptors due to right knee soreness, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss his first game of the season Thursday due to right knee soreness. Dominick Barlow will likely receive increased playing time as the backup center to Onyeka Okongwu in his absence. Capela's next chance to suit up is Saturday's rematch with Toronto.
Jan 23, 2025
Records double-double off bench
Capela totaled 16 points (6-8 FG, 4-5 FT), 10 rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 21 minutes during Wednesday's 114-104 loss to the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been playing off the bench after Onyeka Okongwu was promoted to a starting role, but the veteran big man has found a way to remain productive. In his two outings with the second unit, Capela has racked up 28 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks in 41 total minutes.
Jan 20, 2025
Coming off bench
Capela will come off the bench Monday against the Knicks, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With Onyeka Okongwu in the midst of the best stretch of his career, this move was inevitable. Capela played 21 minutes or fewer in his last three games, and his fantasy upside could be limited going forward with the Hawks giving Okongwu more playing time.
Jan 10, 2025
Records double-double in loss
Capela closed Thursday's 123-115 loss to the Suns with 10 points (4-11 FG, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal over 26 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela and Onyeka Okongwu continued their timeshare at center, but Capela had the better total over his teammate in the loss. The veteran was mentioned consistently as a trade target in the offseason, but the Hawks would be very thin inside if they dealt him now, and Okongwu sometimes struggles when given the starting nod.
Jan 8, 2025
Bounces back Tuesday
Capela ended Tuesday's 124-121 victory over the Jazz with 18 points (9-11 FG), six rebounds and three blocks over 25 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela was efficient from the floor and posted his highest scoring output since Nov. 22, when he finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to the Bulls. That said, this was the first time he eclipsed the 10-point mark in January and just the third time he had done it over his last 10 games. He remains valuable in fantasy, but there's no doubt his upside is not what it once was.
Jan 4, 2025
Struggles in loss
Capela closed with eight points (4-8 FG), seven rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes during Friday's 119-102 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Capela was squelched by Anthony Davis in the opening minutes of the first quarter. Onyeka Okongwu and Jalen Johnson were able to prop up the frontcourt effectively after Davis' opening barrage, and Capela wasn't seen again until midway through the second quarter. He fared much better against Davis at that point, but he was almost a non-factor in the second half.
Dec 15, 2024
Blocks four shots Saturday
Capela amassed six points (3-8 FG, 0-2 FT), eight rebounds, four blocks and one steal across 29 minutes during Saturday's 110-102 loss to Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Capela played at least 28 minutes for just the fourth time this season, tallying a season-high four blocks. It's been a modest season for the veteran, currently averaging 10.0 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 23.0 minutes per game. The coaching staff seems intent on splitting the center minutes across Capela and Onyeka Okongwu, typically limiting the opportunities for both players.
Dec 9, 2024
Sees just 19 minutes
Capela amassed nine points (4-7 FG, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds and one assist across 19 minutes during Sunday's 141-111 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Capela made the most of his limited minutes, and his workloads have been frustrating for his fantasy managers. He's averaging 22.7 minutes compared to 24.0 for Onyeka Okongwu, and he's produced 11th-round value in nine-category formats on the season.
Dec 2, 2024
Grabs 17 rebounds in win
Capela registered nine points (4-6 FG, 1-1 FT), 17 rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals in 29 minutes during Monday's 124-112 victory over New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Capela continues to outplay Onyeka Okongwu, serving as the primary center option in Atlanta. Although his offensive game is not what it used to be, he still provides elite defensive numbers, while also crashing the boards with regularity. He has recorded at least 13 rebounds in three straight games, adding a combined 11 steals and blocks. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that he has played in every game thus far, allowing him to continue to build chemistry with some of his newer teammates.
Nov 21, 2024
Another double-double
Capela totaled 11 points (5-12 FG, 1-4 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal in 22 minutes during Wednesday's 120-97 loss to Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Capela is making the most of his minutes in recent weeks, scoring in double digits in all but one of his last six appearances while posting three double-doubles in that stretch. That said, Capela is splitting time at center with Onyeka Okongwu, and that's undoubtedly limiting his upside. The veteran big man is averaging 11.9 points and 9.1 boards per game since the beginning of November, and he'll remain valuable in most formats as long as he remains in the starting lineup. For now, that's not expected to change.
Nov 18, 2024
Plays just 20 minutes
Capela provided eight points (4-9 FG, 0-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in 20 minutes during Sunday's 114-110 loss to the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Capela played 20 minutes compared to Onyeka Okongwu, and it doesn't help his case that he was severely outplayed as well. Despite holding onto the starting role, his minutes have suffered in recent games, as he's played 22 or fewer minutes in four of his last five outings.
Nov 10, 2024
Turns back clock Saturday
Capela ended Saturday's 125-113 loss to the Bulls with 20 points (8-14 FG, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and one block in 26 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela was one of the best two-way centers in the league during his prime years, and he turned the clock back a few years with this strong showing Saturday. This was the first time Capela reached the 20-point plateau this season, and he also finished just one board shy of recording what would've been his second double-double. Onyeka Okongwu could end up being the long-term answer at center for the Hawks, but Capela will remain in the starting unit if he manages to perform at this rate on a regular basis.
Nov 5, 2024
Struggles massively Monday
Capela produced two points (1-3 FG), five rebounds and one assist over 17 minutes during Monday's 123-93 loss to Boston.
ANALYSIS
Capela had another woeful showing, and it's fair to wonder for how long he'll remain in the starting unit, as Onyeka Okongwu has outplayed him almost in every game this season. Capela has had a few decent performances this season, but he only has one double-double through eight appearances while averaging a modest 8.9 points and 6.5 rebounds across 22.5 minutes per game in a starting role.
Oct 29, 2024
Perfect from field Monday
Capela closed Monday's 121-119 loss to Washington with 16 points (6-6 FG, 4-6 FT), four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 25 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela had been outplayed by Onyeka Okongwu (toe) in recent games, but with the latter sidelined Monday, Capela stated his case to continue in a starting role Monday. The veteran big man displayed an efficient touch near the rim and also made his mark defensively. Capela is not expected to record the numbers he used to deliver in his prime years with Houston, but he remains a serviceable fantasy alternative who can threaten with a double-double every time he steps on the court.
Oct 23, 2024
With first unit Wednesday
Capela is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's season opener versus Brooklyn, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela tended to an ankle sprain throughout preseason, but his workload is not expected to be limited Wednesday. Onyeka Okongwu has done little to prove he is deserving of usurping Capela in the Hawks' starting lineup, although the bigs could function in a timeshare regardless of title.
Oct 22, 2024
Good to go against Brooklyn
Capela (ankle) isn't on the injury report for Wednesday's game versus the Nets, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela sat out Atlanta's preseason finale due to ankle soreness but is available for the team's regular-season opener Wednesday. The 30-year-old center averaged 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 assists in 25.8 minutes across 73 regular-season appearances last season.
Oct 17, 2024
Inactive vs. OKC
Capela (ankle) won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Thunder, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was pulled from Wednesday's exhibition against the Heat with ankle soreness and the team won't take any chances of making the injury worse by playing him Thursday in a meaningless preseason game. Onyeka Okongwu should see plenty of action with Capela, Larry Nance (rest), Cody Zeller (undisclosed) and Dominick Barlow (undisclosed) all out.
Oct 16, 2024
Exits preseason game with injury
Capela will not return to Wednesday's preseason game against the Heat due to right ankle soreness, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network
ANALYSIS
Capela will finish the contest with three points (1-2 FG, 1-2 FT) and three rebounds across seven minutes. The Hawks' final preseason game comes Thursday and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Hawks give Capela the night off.
Oct 15, 2024
Near double-double vs. 76ers
Capela tallied 10 points (5-8 FG), nine rebounds, three assists and one block over 21 minutes during Monday's 104-89 preseason loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been one rebound shy of registering a double-double in each of his two preseason outings. The 2014 first-round pick should hoard the boards during the 2024-25 regular season as he serves as the Hawks' defensive anchor. During the 2023-24 campaign, Capela averaged 11.5 points on 57.1 percent shooting, 10.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.5 blocks over 25.8 minutes per game across 73 regular-season contests.
Apr 17, 2024
Set to play against Chicago
Capela (rest) isn't on the injury report for Wednesday's Play-In Tournament game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Capela will return to action Wednesday after sitting out Atlanta's regular-season finale for rest purposes. The 29-year-old big man should reclaim his starting spot from Bruno Fernando. Capela is averaging 12.0 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.8 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals in 28.6 minutes across his past 10 appearances.
Apr 14, 2024
Out Sunday
Capela (rest) is inactive for Sunday's game against Indiana, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will look to be as fresh as possible for Wednesday's Play-In Tournament matchup against Chicago. Atlanta appears willing to wave the white flag for Sunday's matchup despite an Indiana win effectively removing the Pacers from risk of slipping into the Play-In Tournament.
Apr 13, 2024
Questionable to play Sunday
Capela is questionable to play Sunday against the Pacers due to rest, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks know they'll be facing the Bulls in the first round of the Play-In Tournament, and it seems they're not willing to risk Capela in the final game of the regular season in order to have him fresh for what should be a battle against Nikola Vucevic. Capela has recorded four double-doubles over his last seven appearances, a span in which he's averaging 12.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per contest.
Apr 13, 2024
Records double-double Friday
Capela accumulated 13 points (6-8 FG, 1-2 FT), 11 rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in 26 minutes during Friday's 109-106 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Capela had the daunting task of dealing with Rudy Gobert on both ends of the court, and while his final stat line was not eye-popping, he was efficient en route to yet another double-double, as he missed just two shots from the field. Capela has recorded four double-doubles over his last seven appearances, a span in which he's averaging 12.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per contest.
Apr 12, 2024
Gets green light
Capela (rest) is available for Friday's game against the Timberwolves, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks were considering holding Capela out of Friday's action, but the team ultimately decided he'll be available to suit up. It's unclear if he'll shoulder his usual workload with only a few games remaining in the regular season.
Apr 11, 2024
Questionable for Friday
Capela (rest) is questionable for Friday's game against the Timberwolves, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
With only two games left in the regular season, a maintenance day is on the table for Capela. If Atlanta holds their starting center out, Bruno Fernando could see a lot of run against the Timberwolves and would be on the streaming radar.
Apr 10, 2024
Grabs 11 rebounds Tuesday
Capela amassed six points (3-8 FG), 11 rebounds and two assists over 37 minutes during Tuesday's 117-111 double-overtime loss to Miami.
ANALYSIS
Capela didn't have a good shooting performance and was particularly inefficient from the field, but the big man salvaged his fantasy outing by recording double-digit boards for the fifth straight contest -- and for the 15th time over his last 17 appearances. Capela is averaging 12.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per game during that 17-game stretch, and he should remain a capable two-way threat for Atlanta even if he has an off night from a scoring perspective from time to time.
Apr 7, 2024
Leads with 19-point double-double
Capela finished with 19 points (5-6 FG, 9-12 FT), 12 rebounds, three assists and one steal across 30 minutes during Saturday's 142-110 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Capela was surprisingly the highest scorer in the blowout loss, and the big man renewed a double-double streak after posting only six points in his last outing against Dallas. Capela's numbers have dropped in his 10th season, but he's still a productive member of the starting five. The Hawks will need excellent frontcourt support from Capela as they try to overtake the Bulls for ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
Apr 5, 2024
Grabs 13 boards Thursday
Capela posted six points (3-7 FG, 0-2 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal across 29 minutes during Thursday's 109-95 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Capela registered double-digit rebounds for the third game in a row Thursday, but he also committed five of Atlanta's 21 turnovers, which tied a season high. His six points were his lowest since Feb. 25 as his streak of double-digit scoring ended at 14 games. Since the All-Star break, Capela is averaging 11.1 points on 55.0 percent shooting, 10.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 blocks over 25.5 minutes per game.
Apr 2, 2024
Double-doubles with two swats
Capela notched 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-7 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal across 26 minutes during Monday's 113-101 victory over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
This was Capela's sixth double-double over his last seven contests, and the veteran big man has been playing well over the previous few weeks. Capela is making his presence felt on both ends of the court and seeing an uptick in his scoring figures compared to earlier in the season. He's averaging 12.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game since the beginning of March.
Mar 28, 2024
Records another double-double
Capela accumulated 13 points (5-5 FG, 3-6 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, three blocks and four steals in 27 minutes during Wednesday's 120-106 victory over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Capela posted his fourth consecutive double-double, and the veteran big man has now reached that tally in nine of his last 10 appearances, showing an excellent understanding with Dejounte Murray and also being a standout presence on the defensive end. Capela will aim to keep that streak alive when hosting the Celtics on Thursday.
Mar 22, 2024
Double-double in Thursday's loss
Capela registered 13 points (5-10 FG, 3-5 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks over 25 minutes during Thursday's 128-115 loss to Phoenix.
ANALYSIS
The veteran center has yet to pull down fewer than nine rebounds in a game in March, averaging 12.6 points, 11.4 boards, 2.1 assists and 1.0 blocks over the last 10 contests while shooting 55.1 percent from the floor. Capela is up to 30 double-doubles on the season, the fourth straight campaign he's reached that mark and the sixth time in his career.
Mar 18, 2024
Extends double-double streak
Capela amassed 15 points (7-11 FG, 1-2 FT), 13 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal across 26 minutes during Sunday's 110-93 win over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Capela registered his fifth consecutive double-double in the victory, continuing a very productive month. Over eight games in March, Capela has averaged 12.9 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
Mar 16, 2024
Fourth straight double-double
Capela had 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-4 FT), 15 rebounds, four assists and two blocks across 32 minutes during Friday's 124-122 loss to the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
The veteran center put together his fourth straight double-double and 28th of the season. Capela needed about a week after the All-Star break to get back up to speed following a six-game absence due to an adductor strain, but over his last seven contests he's averaging 12.6 points, 11.7 boards and 2.3 assists while shooting 55.2 percent from the floor. Friday's game was the first time during that stretch he recorded multiple blocks, however.
Mar 14, 2024
Records double-double in loss
Capela posted 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-5 FT), 14 rebounds, one assist and two steals in 27 minutes during Wednesday's 106-102 loss to the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Capela was active on both ends of the court en route to his third consecutive double-double, and he's now achieved that feat in four of his six appearances this month. Capela might be experiencing a decrease in both numbers and usage rate, but he's still on pace to average a double-double for the seventh straight season, which speaks volumes of his consistency.
Mar 6, 2024
Solid performance in win over NY
Capela notched 13 points (5-11 FG, 3-4 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and one block in 25 minutes during Tuesday's 116-100 win over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Capela might not be the automatic double-double machine he was during his prime years, but he remains a player capable of making things happen on both ends of the court. The veteran big man is averaging just 8.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game since the end of the All-Star break, and while those numbers are borderline when it comes to a starting gig in fantasy, he will continue to hold value as long as he remains a starter for the Hawks.
Mar 2, 2024
Records double-double Saturday
Capela finished Saturday's 114-102 loss to the Nets with 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal across 24 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela hasn't received too many touches on offense of late, which is not surprising considering he's often sharing the court with Dejounte Murray, Jalen Johnson and Saddiq Bey, but the veteran big man made the most of his chances in this one. He scored in double digits -- and recorded a double-double -- for the first time since Feb. 3, and there's a chance this performance is exactly what he needs to stop the cold streak he was riding since returning from injury.
Feb 24, 2024
Grabs seven boards in return
Capela (adductor) tallied five points (1-4 FG, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one block in 19 minutes Friday in the Hawks' 123-121 loss to the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Capela took back his spot in the starting five Friday after he had missed the Hawks' final six games before the All-Star break with a left adductor strain, but he was on a minutes limit in his return to action. Though his production was somewhat suppressed as a result of the playing-time restriction, Capela should eventually get ramped up to a near-30-minute-role while the Hawks are without Onyeka Okongwu (toe) for the foreseeable future. Bruno Fernando (11 minutes Friday) should remain part of the Hawks' rotation, but he doesn't present as much of a threat to Capela's playing time as Okongwu had prior to suffering a left big toe sprain.
Feb 23, 2024
Officially starting
Capela (adductor) is officially starting at center in Friday's matchup with the Raptors, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is set to return to the court following a six-game absence that led into the All-Star break. The 29-year-old will replace Bruno Fernando in the starting lineup. However, given how long he has been sidelined, the big man is expected to be on a minutes restriction per Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Feb 22, 2024
Will play on minutes restriction
Capela (adductor) is available for Friday's game versus the Raptors but will likely operate under a minutes restriction, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will return to action Friday after missing Atlanta's last six contests due to a left adductor strain. The 29-year-old center will likely reclaim his starting spot from Bruno Fernando, with Onyeka Okongwu (toe) out for the foreseeable future. However, Capela is expected to play less than his season average of 25.7 minutes.
Feb 13, 2024
Won't return before All-Star break
Capela (groin) is out for Wednesday's game against the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Capela will remain sidelined for Atlanta's final game prior to the All-Star break. The team expects Capela to begin practicing following All-Star weekend, which is an important development in the context of Onyeka Okongwu (toe) now dealing with an injury as well.
Feb 4, 2024
Out at least one week
Capela was diagnosed with a left adductor strain following an MRI on Sunday and is scheduled to be re-evaluated in 7-to-10 days.
ANALYSIS
Though Atlanta provided no indication that Capela was playing through an injury in Saturday's 141-134 overtime win over the Warriors, he reportedly experienced discomfort late in the victory and was sent in for further testing Sunday. With the MRI revealing the adductor injury, Capela will now be sidelined for at least Atlanta's next four games before the team updates his status. Onyeka Okongwu will presumably step in as the Hawks' starting center in the interim and should be viewed as a must-roster option in nearly every format with the likelihood that he'll take on a 30-plus-minute role.
Feb 4, 2024
Big double-double Saturday
Capela posted 17 points (8-11 FG, 1-2 FT), 15 rebounds and two assists across 25 minutes during Saturday's 141-134 overtime win over Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Capela posted his 11th game with at least 15 points, while Saturday also marked his seventh game with at least 15 rebounds this season. Capela has been sharp lately, delivering 15.0 points and 12.8 rebounds on 63.6 percent shooting in 24.5 minutes per game across his last four contests.
Jan 31, 2024
Another double-double Tuesday
Capela finished with 13 points (6-10 FG, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal across 24 minutes during Tuesday's 138-122 victory over the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
The veteran center is doing what he can to improve his market value if the Hawks decide to get busy at the trade deadline. Capela has five double-doubles in the last nine games and has pulled down fewer than eight boards only once during that stretch, averaging 11.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks while shooting 56.8 percent from the floor.
Jan 28, 2024
Top rebounder in double-double game
Capela notched 19 points (9-13 FG, 1-2 FT), 14 rebounds and one block over 28 minutes in Sunday's 126-125 win over Toronto
ANALYSIS
Capela led all players in Sunday's contest in rebounds while ending as one of five Hawks with 15 or more points in a double-double showcase. Capela has tallied a double-double in 20 games this season, including in four straight outings.
Jan 26, 2024
Cleared to play Friday
Capela (calf) is available for Friday's game against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Capela will shake off a questionable tag and suit up Friday despite a calf issue. He has notched a double-double in back-to-back games and averaged 10.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 23.8 minutes per game over his last six appearances.
Jan 25, 2024
Questionable for Friday
Capela is questionable for Friday's game against the Mavericks due to a left calf contusion, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has posted double-doubles in his last two appearances, but he's dealing with a calf issue ahead of Friday's matchup. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available, but Onyeka Okongwu and Bruno Fernando (back) are candidates to see increased run if Cappella is sidelined.
Jan 23, 2024
Posts double-double in loss
Capela chipped in 11 points (4-10 FG, 3-4 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and two blocks in 22 minutes during Monday's 122-107 loss to the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Capela had a productive night despite logging seven fewer minutes then Onyeka Okongwu, who had nine rebounds of his own. The veteran is less likely to explode for a big night with Okongwu in the second unit, and the platoon situation caps the fantasy value of both players.
Jan 20, 2024
Grabs 11 rebounds Friday
Capela ended with nine points (2-4 FG, 5-7 FT), 11 rebounds and one block in 22 minutes during Friday's 109-108 victory over Miami.
ANALYSIS
Capela didn't have many touches on offense and struggled to make an impact, though he also had a tough task in dealing with Bam Adebayo on both ends of the court. The 11 rebounds were a nice haul for managers who have him rostered in category-based leagues, but other than that, Capela hasn't been producing at his best of late. He's averaging just 9.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game across his last five appearances.
Jan 12, 2024
Good to go Friday
Capela (Achilles) is available for Friday's game versus the Pacers, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been upgraded from probable to available Friday after missing Atlanta's last game with right Achilles soreness. The veteran center will likely replace Onyeka Okongwu in the starting lineup.
Jan 11, 2024
Likely to return against Indiana
Capela (Achilles) is probable for Friday's game versus the Pacers, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network.
ANALYSIS
Capela is expected to play Friday after missing Atlanta's previous contest with right Achilles soreness. If Capela is upgraded to available, he will likely reclaim his spot from Onyeka Okongwu in the starting five.
Jan 10, 2024
Ruled out for Wednesday
Capela (Achilles) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Capela appeared in the last 10 matchups, but he'll be sidelined for the second time this season due to a sore right Achilles. Onyeka Okongwu will likely handle a starting role in his absence, while Bruno Fernando could also see some playing time. Capella's next chance to suit up will be Friday against Indiana.
Jan 9, 2024
Iffy for Wednesday
Capela is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game versus the 76ers due to right Achilles soreness.
ANALYSIS
Capela is in danger of missing just his second game this season due to an Achilles injury. Onyeka Okongwu would likely start at center if Capela is ruled out.
Dec 24, 2023
Records double-double Saturday
Capela had 20 points (8-11 FG, 4-4 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and two blocks across 30 minutes during Saturday's 125-119 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Capela had a tough battle with Jaren Jackson down low, but the veteran big man still posted a solid fantasy showing and notched his 13th double-double of the season. Capela is on pace to average a double-double for the seventh season in a row, a mark that outlines his elite consistency levels, and that also makes him a reliable fantasy asset across all formats.
Dec 19, 2023
Big double-double in return
Capela chipped in 17 points (7-11 FG, 3-3 FT), 15 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and one steal across 28 minutes during Monday's 130-124 victory over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Capela missed Saturday's loss to Cleveland due to knee soreness, but he didn't miss a beat Monday, posting his third consecutive appearance with a double-double. Capela has been locked into a 30-minute role of late, even logging stretches in two-big lineups alongside Onyeka Okongwu.
Dec 18, 2023
Will play Monday
Capela (knee) is available for Monday's game against the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Capela was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee after undergoing an MRI on Sunday, but the issue won't prevent him from suiting up after missing Saturday's loss to Cleveland. Over his last 13 appearances, Capela has averaged 13.1 points, 11.2 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.2 assists in 26.5 minutes per game.
Dec 17, 2023
Diagnosed with bone bruise
Capela has been diagnosed with a left knee bone bruise after undergoing an MRI on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Capela missed Saturday's game due to knee soreness and underwent an MRI on Sunday that revealed a left knee bone bruise. Capela is considered day-to-day and is still listed as questionable for tomorrow's game against the Pistons.
Dec 17, 2023
Questionable for Monday
Capela (knee) is questionable for Monday's game against the Pistons, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela missed his first game of the season Saturday, allowing Onyeka Okongwu to start at center. The extent of Capela's injury remains unclear, but he can be considered a game-time call ahead of Monday's 7:30 p.m. ET tipoff.
Dec 16, 2023
Out against Cavaliers
Capela (knee) will not play in Saturday's game against the Cavaliers, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
This will be the first missed game of the season for Capela. Atlanta's starting center played 35 minutes Friday, so that may have factored into the decision. With Capela out, we're likely to see Onyeka Okongwu slide to center which will open things up for Saddiq Bey in the frontcourt. Bruno Fernando could also see some rotation minutes for Atlanta.
Dec 16, 2023
Iffy for Saturday
Capela is questionable for Saturday's game against Cleveland due to left knee soreness, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is at risk of missing his first game of 2023 on Saturday with left knee soreness. Considering Capela played 35 minutes Friday, it wouldn't be all too surprising to see him get the night off for the tail end of the back-to-back set. If that ends up being the case, expect Onyeka Okongwu to slide into the starting lineup while Bruno Fernando could see more work off the bench.
Dec 8, 2023
Double-double in loss
Capela racked up 15 points (6-12 FG, 3-4 FT), 16 rebounds, two assists and one block over 30 minutes during Friday's 125-114 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Capela had his work cut out for him as he squared off against reigning MVP Joel Embiid. Capela was able to notch his second double-double in three games and scored in double digits for the fourth time in five games as Trae Young missed Friday's contest with an illness.
Dec 3, 2023
Grabs 17 boards, swats three shots
Capela registered 10 points (4-13 FG, 2-2 FT), 17 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and one steal in 30 minutes during Saturday's 132-121 loss to the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Capela struggled badly from the field, but he's not expected to carry the offense on a regular basis, and he still found a way to deliver value with his energy on the glass and active rim protection. Capela's scoring numbers have been pedestrian at best, as he has failed to score more than 14 points in five straight games, but he should remain a valuable fantasy asset if he keeps crashing the ball and protecting the rim as he's done it all season long.
Nov 29, 2023
Comes close to double-double
Capela racked up 14 points (6-10 FG, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals across 22 minutes during Tuesday's 128-105 loss to the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Capela ended just one board shy of posting what would've been his fourth double-double over his last six outings, and the veteran big man continues to be a two-way threat while maintaining his place as Atlanta's starting center. Onyeka Okongwu has shown he could be in line for more minutes sooner than later, but until that happens, Capela will continue to have value in fantasy as an above-average rebounder and finisher near the rim. He's averaging 10.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in November.
Nov 23, 2023
Season high in boards Wednesday
Capela amassed 14 points (7-8 FG), 15 rebounds and three blocks across 27 minutes during Wednesday's 147-145 overtime victory over the Nets.
ANALYSIS
The 15 boards were a season high for Capela, who delivered his second double-double in the last three games and sixth in 14 contests. The veteran center remains a trade candidate with Onyeka Okongwu on the depth chart behind him, but Capela isn't doing anything to hurt his market value, and his 1.7 blocks a game is his best performance in that category since 2020-21.
Nov 18, 2023
Scores 17 and adds 11 boards
Capela provided 17 points (7-11 FG, 3-5 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 29 minutes during Friday's 126-116 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Capela notched his first double-double since Nov. 1, and while he remains a respectable defensive presence and active rebounder, his scoring figures have regressed compared to previous seasons. His two-way play makes him valuable in most formats, but he's averaging just 10.0 points and 9.4 rebounds per game since the beginning of November.
Nov 10, 2023
Double-digit rebounds once again
Capela notched six points (2-4 FG, 2-4 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists and one block over 26 minutes during Thursday's 120-119 victory over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Capela's offensive woes continue, and he has now scored 10 or fewer points in four of his last five appearances. He still provides value as a rim protector and glass cleaner, having averaged 10.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest so far, but he needs to be better offensively to deliver better fantasy results. To note, he's scoring just 10.1 points per game while shooting 55.9 percent from the field.
Nov 7, 2023
Wrangles 12 rebounds
Capela closed with six points (2-5 FG, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 21 minutes during Monday's 126-117 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Capela's performance was comparable to his platoon mate Onyeka Okongwu (seven points, 14 rebounds, 25 minutes) on Monday. Capela has averaged just 5.8 shots over his last four contests, which makes settling into an offensive rhythm difficult.
Oct 31, 2023
Five rejections against T-wolves
Capela recorded two points (0-3 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, one assist and five blocks across 23 minutes during Monday's 127-113 victory over Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Matched up against Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, Capela still made his presence felt on the defensive end even if he offered little offense. The veteran center center came into Monday with only one block through the first three games of the season, so the rejections were probably overdue -- Capela has averaged at least 1.2 blocks a game for eight straight seasons coming into 2023-24.
Oct 30, 2023
Solid on both ends Sunday
Capela racked up 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 23 minutes during Sunday's 127-110 win over Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Another game, another double-double for the veteran big man, who has scored at least 12 points and has grabbed at least 12 rebounds in each of his appearances so far. He hasn't done much in other categories, as he has racked up just three assists, two steals and one block combined, but his touch around the rim and energy on the glass is more than enough to make him valuable across all formats. He'll have a tough matchup to continue his double-double streak with the Timberwolves visiting StateFarm Arena on Monday.
Oct 28, 2023
Records double-double in loss
Capela posted 13 points (6-12 FG, 1-2 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists and one block across 28 minutes during Friday's 126-120 loss to the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Capela was solid on both ends of the court, and the veteran big man has opened the 2023-24 campaign with back-to-back double-doubles. That shouldn't be overly surprising, however, as Capela recorded 35 games with at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in the 2022-23 regular season.
Oct 20, 2023
Good to go Friday
Capela (undisclosed) is available for Friday's preseason game against the 76ers, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will return to the lineup for Friday's preseason finale after missing the previous two games with an undisclosed injury. He will replace Onyeka Okongwu in the starting five.
Oct 16, 2023
Remains out Monday
Capela (undisclosed) won't play in Monday's preseason game against Indiana, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss a second straight exhibition due to an undisclosed reason, though it's presumably just for rest purposes. The veteran's next chance to suit up will come during Friday's preseason finale against the 76ers.
Oct 14, 2023
Out Saturday
Capela will not play in Saturday's preseason matchup with the Pelicans for an undisclosed reason, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks did not provide any transparency on why Capela will be sidelined, but given the nature of the preseason, he is likely getting a rest opportunity. He is once again expected to start at center for Atlanta in the upcoming season.
Oct 11, 2023
Hauls in 10 rebounds
Capela recorded seven points (2-3 FG, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds and one block in 15 minutes during Tuesday's 108-107 preseason win over the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Capela drew the start over Onyeka Okongwu, so he appears to have the upper hand in this position battle for now. Coach Quin Snyder has said that he wants to experiment with some lineups during the preseason, so it will be important for Capela to be at his best.
Apr 24, 2023
Modest production in loss
Capela notched 10 points (3-6 FG, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, one block and two steals in 30 minutes during Sunday's 129-121 loss to the Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
Capela was one of four Hawks to score in double figures and finished tied for second on the team in rebounds with De'Andre Hunter. Through the first four matchups of the opening-round series, the veteran center has averaged 9.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 26.0 minutes per game.
Apr 16, 2023
Comes close to double-double
Capela accumulated 12 points (6-8 FG), eight rebounds and one steal across 27 minutes during Saturday's 112-99 loss to Boston in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks struggled offensively as a unit, but Capela posted a decent stat line after missing just two of his shots from the field while ending just two boards away from a double-double. He'll remain Atlanta's biggest threat down low on both ends of the court ahead of Game 2 on Tuesday.
Apr 11, 2023
Dominant on the glass in victory
Capela accumulated four points (2-3 FG, 0-4 FT), 21 rebounds, one assist and two blocks over 28 minutes during Tuesday's 116-105 play-in game victory over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Capela led all players in Tuesday's play-in game in boards while surpassing the 20 rebound mark and accounting for one-third of the overall team rebounds in a winning effort. Capela, who posted a new season-high total on the glass, has hauled in 20 or more boards twice this year.
Apr 10, 2023
Will suit up Tuesday
Capela (calf) isn't listed on the Hawks' injury report for Tuesday's Play-In matchup against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Capela sat out the regular-season finale due to right calf tightness, but as expected, he'll be good to go for the Hawks' first playoff action. Across 65 regular-season appearances (63 starts), the veteran center averaged 12.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 26.6 minutes per game.
Apr 8, 2023
Will miss regular-season finale
Capela is out for Sunday's game against the Celtics due to right calf tightness.
ANALYSIS
Capela is one of several starters that will miss the regular-season finale Sunday to have him fully fit for the Play-In matchup against the Heat on Tuesday. Capela ends the regular season averaging 12.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game across 65 appearances (63 starts).
Apr 6, 2023
Easy line in win
Capela finished with nine points (3-5 FG, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds, three blocks and one steal over 15 minutes during Wednesday's 134-116 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
On the second night of a back-to-back set, Capela wasn't needed for his full workload. Capela nonetheless had a big impact, including a highlight-worthy, no-look steal. He was dominant as a paint protector, although prior to Wednesday he had gone four straight games without blocking a shot.
Mar 29, 2023
Third straight double-double
Capela posted 12 points (6-10 FG, 0-1 FT), 10 rebounds and two assists across 27 minutes during Tuesday's 120-118 win over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
It was the third straight double-double for Capela and his 33rd of the season, putting him just outside the top 10 in the league in the category. The 28-year-old center has been able to stay healthy lately and it shows, as he's averaging 12.4 points, 11.1 boards, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 assists over 14 games in March while shooting 74.3 percent from the floor.
Mar 27, 2023
Double-double with four blocks
Capela had 18 points (8-11 FG, 2-2 FT), 16 rebounds, one assist, four blocks and one steal across 29 minutes during Sunday's 123-119 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Capela matched his season high with four blocks, notching his fourth double-double in the past five games. Outside of one prolonged absence, Capela has been relatively healthy this season, putting up top-40 value for the season. Unfortunately, he is only blocking 1.3 shots per game, eerily similar to what he was able to do last season. Despite not being the elite shot blocker he once was, Capela remains a solid center option across all fantasy formats.
Mar 22, 2023
Dominates glass in Tuesday's win
Capela finished with 12 points (6-7 FG, 0-2 FT), 16 rebounds, two blocks and two steals over 25 minutes during Tuesday's 129-107 victory over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
It's the veteran center's best performance on the glass since he ripped down 17 boards against the Suns on Feb. 7. Capela is up to 30 double-doubles on the season in 56 games, and through 10 contests in March he's averaging 11.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks while shooting 74.0 percent from the floor.
Mar 19, 2023
Leading rebounder in double-double
Capela finished with 15 points (7-9 FG, 1-1 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 28 minutes during Sunday's 126-118 loss to San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Capela once again led Atlanta in rebounds while finishing as one of seven Hawks in double figures in scoring during a double-double performance. Capela has recorded a double-double in two of his last three outings.
Mar 17, 2023
Trending in the wrong direction
Capela racked up six points (3-4 FG, 0-2 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks across 22 minutes during Friday's 127-119 victory over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Capela is still holding onto the starting job in Atlanta, but Onyeka Okongwu is slowly winning the position battle and has played more minutes in three straight games. Capela has still been productive in limited minutes as a great source of rebounds and blocks on efficient shooting, but his current trajectory is pointed in the wrong direction.
Mar 7, 2023
Keeps double-digit streak alive
Capela posted 12 points (6-6 FG, 0-2 FT), 10 rebounds and one assist across 34 minutes during Monday's 130-128 loss to the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Capela was perfect from the field and posted his fourth straight double-double while posting double-digit rebounds for the fifth game in a row. Capela has left his injury woes behind and is back to his old productive self while contributing on both ends of the court. He's averaging 11.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game since the start of February.
Mar 5, 2023
Third straight double-double
Capela ended with 16 points (8-10 FG), 13 rebounds, one block and one steal across 25 minutes during Saturday's 117-109 loss to the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Capela was one point short of tying De'Andre Hunter with a team-high 17 and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds en route to his third straight double-double. During that stretch, the veteran big man is averaging 13.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals in 28.3 minutes per game.
Mar 4, 2023
Second straight double-double
Capela provided 11 points (5-7 FG, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in 25 minutes during Friday's 129-111 victory over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Capela recorded another double-double Friday night, which was only his fourth since the beginning of February after finishing out January with four in a row. For a short stretch, it was looking like he was starting to lose minutes to backup center Onyeka Okongwu, but in the two games since new head coach Quin Snyder has joined the sideline, the veteran big man has regained his usual workload and is producing like normal. In the last two contests, Capela has shot 11-for-15 and pulled down 27 boards while adding four blocks and three steals.
Mar 1, 2023
Double-double against Wizards
Capela accumulated 13 points (6-8 FG, 1-2 FT), 15 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals across 35 minutes during Tuesday's 119-116 loss to the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
It's his first double-double since Feb. 11 in his biggest workload since Jan. 23, as Capela came through with a solid performance for new head coach Quin Snyder. The veteran center has stayed healthy and pulled down double-digit boards in 11 of the last 15 games, averaging 12.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 blocks over that stretch while shooting 58.6 percent from the floor.
Feb 12, 2023
Records double-double
Capela closed with 14 points (7-12 FG), 12 rebounds, one assist and three blocks over 29 minutes during Saturday's 125-106 win over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Capela made his presence felt on both ends of the court, as he displayed energy on the glass, was efficient with his offensive touches and also provided help defensively and protecting the rim. Capela struggled with injuries in late December and early January, but he has turned things around recently and is averaging 11.6 points with 11.6 rebounds per game since returning to a starting role on Jan. 20.
Feb 5, 2023
Grabs team-high 11 boards
Capela ended Saturday's 128-108 loss to the Nuggets with 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-3 FT) and 11 rebounds across 26 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela got off to a strong start on the offensive end, knocking down all three of his field goal attempts in the first quarter for six points. He went just 2-of-7 from the second quarter on, however, while adding eight rebounds over that stretch. The Hawks' center grabbed a team-high 11 boards in the contest to notch his 22nd double-double of the season and he's now grabbed double-digit rebounds in eight straight.
Jan 31, 2023
Nabs fourth straight double-double
Capela finished with 10 points (4-11 FG, 2-2 FT), 15 rebounds and three assists in Monday's 129-125 loss to the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Though Capela came away with his fourth double-double in a row, the 4-for-11 showing from the field was disappointing for a player who has been converting at a 64.3 percent clip for the season. The inefficient showing can thus be viewed as an outlier for Capela, whose fantasy value appears to be on the upswing now that he's begun to wrangle a larger share of the center minutes away from backup Onyeka Okongwu. In the last three contests in which both big men have been available, Capela is averaging 28.3 minutes to Okongwu's 19.7.
Jan 26, 2023
Perfect from field
Capela finished with 18 points (8-8 FG, 2-6 FT), 10 rebounds, one block and one steal over 28 minutes during Wednesday's 137-132 win over the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Capela struggled from the charity stripe, but other than that, this was an excellent game for him since he was perfect from the field, active on the glass and helpful defensively. The big man has posted back-to-back double-doubles and has scored in double digits in five of his six games since returning to the hardwood, so he didn't miss a step despite being sidelined for 10 straight games between late December and mid-January.
Jan 23, 2023
Big minutes in loss
Capela contributed 16 points (7-12 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals over 36 minutes during Monday's 111-100 loss to the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Capela logged a whopping 36 minutes in the loss, the most he has played since returning from injury. The fact Onyeka Okongwu was out certainly played a role here, although the fact the medical staff were ok with Capela being out there for that amount of time does bode well for his immediate playing future. While another injury could be just around the corner, managers should feel pretty comfortable rolling him out there, with a view to returning to his early-season form.
Jan 22, 2023
Up to 24 minutes in loss
Capela chipped in 12 points (5-5 FG, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, one block and two steals in 24 minutes during Saturday's 122-118 loss to the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Capela remained in the starting lineup Saturday, flirting with a double-double in just 24 minutes. The Hawks continue to ease him back into things, although his playing time appears to be slowly trending in the right direction. In just 21.7 minutes per game over the past week, he has put up top 65 value. As his minutes increase so should his value, meaning managers should be relatively comfortable with the decision to hold through his recent injury.
Jan 21, 2023
Mediocre performance in start
Capela posted seven points (3-6 FG, 1-1 FT), nine rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes during Friday's 139-124 win over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Capela was back in the starting five Friday night but still logged only 20 minutes, with Onyeka Okongwu getting more playing time again. Other than a strong rebounding night, the veteran center didn't contribute much while on the floor. His playing time decreased slightly from the previous two outings, and Okongwu is still playing quite well so it will be interesting to see what transpires in the next few games with the minutes distribution.
Jan 20, 2023
Starting Friday
Capela will start for the first time since returning from a 10-game absence, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been on a minutes limit that has been getting lighter each contest, logging 21 minutes and 23 minutes in his first two appearances before receiving the starting nod Friday. His presence in the first unit knocks Onyeka Okongwu to the bench but Okongwu will still see significant run considering Capela is expected to play around 25 minutes.
Jan 20, 2023
Minutes limit to increase each game
Capela's minutes limit is expected to increase each game, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has played two games since returning from a 10-game absence. The center saw 21 minutes in his first game back and 23 minutes in the following contest. Fantasy managers should expect him to creep further into the mid-20s Friday against the Knicks.
Jan 18, 2023
Remains on minutes restriction
Head coach Nate McMillan indicated Capela's minutes will be restricted again Wednesday versus the Mavericks, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
McMillan didn't offer an exact count to Capela's restricted minutes, but the big man saw 21 minutes off the bench in his first game back from a right calf strain. Capela's return shaved minutes primarily from Onyeka Okongwu and Jalen Johnson, who didn't take the floor Monday.
Jan 17, 2023
Eased in with bench role in return
Capela supplied 12 points (6-7 FG, 0-1 FT), six rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes off the bench during Monday's 121-113 win over Miami.
ANALYSIS
Seeing his first action since Dec. 23 after recovering from a calf injury, Capela wasn't immediately inserted back into the starting five but still saw a reasonable workload on the second unit. The veteran big could need another game or two to get his legs back before bumping Onyeka Okongwu aside, but it may not be long before Capela is back in the form that saw him reel off eight straight double-doubles in late November and early December.
Jan 16, 2023
Will come off bench in return
Capela (calf) is available but won't start Monday's game against the Heat, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will be available for the first time since Dec. 23, but due to his lengthy absence with a calf injury, the big man will come off the bench and operate under a minutes limit. Onyeka Okongwu will draw his 11th straight start at center. The USC product is averaging 10.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks as a starter this season (15 games).
Jan 16, 2023
Available Monday
Capela (calf) is available for Monday's matchup against Miami, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela will be available and presumably return to the Hawks' starting lineup for the first time since Dec. 23. Given the big man's lengthy absence with a calf injury, he'll operate under a minutes limit, per Chris Haynes of Turner Sports. Capela's return will likely send Onyeka Okongwu, who's drawn 10 straight starts and averaged a double-double during that stretch, to the bench.
Jan 16, 2023
Intends to play Monday
Capela (calf) is officially listed as questionable but intends to play Monday against the Heat, Chris Haynes of Turner Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela hasn't played since Dec. 23 due to a right calf strain and has made only two appearances since Dec. 11, so if he does suit up Monday, expect the veteran center to have a minutes restriction. Capela's expected return will likely mean less minutes for Onyeka Okongwu, who's draw 10 straight starts and is averaging 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks during that stretch.
Jan 15, 2023
Upgraded to questionable
Capela (calf) will be upgraded to questionable for Monday's game against the Heat, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Hawks head coach Nate McMillan said earlier this week that Capela, who's dealing with a calf injury, didn't have a return timeline, suggesting the big man would remain sidelined for a few more games. However, it appears Capela is making better progress than expected and could return from a 10-game absence Monday. Regardless, he's made only two appearances since Dec. 11, so expect Capela to have a minute restriction whenever he is cleared for game action.
Jan 13, 2023
Without return timeline
Capela (calf) doesn't have a return timeline, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has missed nine straight games due to a right calf strain and will likely miss at least a few more. Per Williams, the starting center is improving each day, but he's still not close to game action. Onyeka Okongwu figures to remain in the starting lineup until Capela is able to play again.
Jan 12, 2023
Won't play against Indiana
Capela (calf) is out for Friday's game versus the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss his ninth straight game due to a right calf strain. Onyeka Okongwu should remain in the starting lineup in his place. Capela's next chance to suit up is Saturday's matchup with Toronto, but he remains without a definitive return timetable.
Jan 10, 2023
Out vs. Bucks
Capela (calf) is out for Wednesday's matchup against the Bucks, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks continue to take Capela's status on a game-to-game basis, and Wednesday's absence will mark eight in a row. Onyeka Okongwu should continue starting.
Jan 7, 2023
Still out Sunday
Capela (calf) is out Sunday against the Clippers, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The center will be out for a seventh straight game Sunday. Onyeka Okongwu will presumably continue to start.
Jan 5, 2023
Won't play Friday
Capela (calf) is listed as out for Friday's contest against the Lakers, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss his sixth consecutive game due to his right calf strain. Onyeka Okongwu will continue to start at center while the veteran recovers from his injury. Capela's next chance to play is Sunday against the Clippers.
Jan 3, 2023
Remains sidelined Wednesday
Capela (calf) is out for Wednesday's game versus the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Capela's absence streak will extend to five games due to a right a calf strain. His next chance to suit up is Friday's matchup with the Lakers.
Jan 1, 2023
Out again Monday
Capela (calf) is listed as out for Monday's game at Golden State, Brad Rowland of Locked On Hawks reports.
ANALYSIS
The big man will miss a fourth straight game, and this will be his seventh absence in the last eight contests. Expect Onyeka Okongwu to continue starting at center in Capela's place as long as he remains sidelined.
Dec 29, 2022
Remains out Friday
Capela (calf) will sit again Friday versus the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Capela has appeared in just one of the last six games and will sit his third consecutive Friday as he tends to a right calf strain. The issue initially wasn't believed to be serious, but it's apparently turned into more of a problem than expected, resulting in Onyeka Okongwu taking on a more prominent role. Okongwu should start again Friday in Capela's place and could see a sizable workload.
Dec 28, 2022
Out again Wednesday
Capela (calf) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Nets, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss a second straight game due to a calf strain. Onyeka Okongwu figures to draw another start in Capela's absence, while Frank Kaminsky sees a minor role as the primary backup. Capela's next chance to suit up will arrive Friday against the Lakers.
Dec 26, 2022
Won't play Tuesday
Capela (calf) is out for Tuesday's game versus the Pacers, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss Tuesday's game after not practicing Monday due to a right calf strain. Onyeka Okongwu will likely replace him in the starting five against Indiana. Capela's next chance to suit up will be Wednesday's matchup with Brooklyn.
Dec 26, 2022
Doesn't practice Monday
Head coach Nate McMillan said Capela (calf) was limited to rehab work during Monday's practice, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela missed three straight games due to a calf injury before returning to action Friday, though he was pulled late in the contest after his calf started cramping. McMillan said after the game that the issue wasn't "anything serious," per source, but it appears the Hawks' starting center might still miss at least one more contest. However, there'll likely be more clarity on his availability when Atlanta releases its official injury report for Tuesday's matchup against the Pacers.
Dec 24, 2022
Calf issue not considered serious
Hawks head coach Nate McMillan said after Friday's 130-105 win over the Pistons that the right calf cramping that Capela experienced during the game isn't "anything serious," Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing the Hawks' previous three games with a right calf strain, Capela was cleared to return to action Friday. He started and was in the midst of a solid game (10 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and one steal) over his 25 minutes of court time, but he was pulled late in the contest when his calf began to cramp up. Given that the Hawks were comfortably in control of the game at the time of Capela's departure, McMillan said he opted to shut the center down early for the night. While it's less than ideal that Capela was nagged by another calf issue in his return to the lineup, the Hawks don't seem to believe his availability is in much jeopardy moving forward. Capela will have a few days to rest up before Atlanta returns to action Tuesday in Indiana.
Dec 23, 2022
Returns from injury
Capela (calf) notched 10 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, two blocks and one steal over 25 minutes during Friday's 130-105 win over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Capela started after missing his last three games (calf) and managed yet another double-double before some cramping in his calf took him out for the remainder of the contest. Prior to that though, he was having an excellent game overall, even adding solid defensive stats. The 28-year-old center is averaging 13.6 points (on 69.4 percent shooting), 11.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in the month of December.
Dec 23, 2022
Questionable to return
Capela is considered questionable to return to Friday's game against the Pistons due to cramping in his right calf, Mike Conti of the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela accumulated 10 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one steal and two blocks across 25 minutes before exiting the game. He will have several days to recover before Atlanta's next game against the Pacers on Tuesday. Onyeka Okongwu would be the prime beneficiary if he ultimately has to miss any more time, while Frank Kaminsky could also enter the rotation.
Dec 23, 2022
Good to go Friday
Capela (calf) will play in Friday's matchup with the Pistons, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been upgraded from questionable to available Friday with a calf injury. The 28-year-old big man will likely reclaim his starting spot from Onyeka Okongwu.
Dec 22, 2022
Listed questionable Friday
Capela (calf) is officially questionable for Friday's game versus the Pistons, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela suggested Wednesday that he was targeting a return to the floor for Friday's game, and his questionable designation on the injury report indicates that it's still on the table. If Capela is cleared to retake the floor, Onyeka Okongwu would likely slide back to a bench role. Capela is averaging a double-double for the sixth consecutive season in 2022-23, racking up 12.1 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.
Dec 21, 2022
Eyeing Friday return
Capela (calf) said Wednesday that he is hoping to play in Friday's matchup with Detroit, Lauren Jbara of Bally Sports South reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has missed the past three games due to right calf tightness. The 28-year-old big man will likely reclaim his starting spot from Onyeka Okongwu when he returns. If Capela can't play Friday, he will have extra time to recover for Tuesday's contest versus the Pacers.
Dec 15, 2022
Out at least a week
Capela is expected to miss approximately 1-2 weeks with a right calf strain, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela left Wednesday's game after injuring his calf. With the veteran big man out at least a week, Onyeka Okongwu will likely be inserted into the starting lineup. Capela ranks third in the NBA in rebounds per game with 12.0.
Dec 14, 2022
Unlikely to return Wednesday
Capela is doubtful to return to Wednesday's game against Orlando due to right calf tightness, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
This injury is unrelated to the other one that prevented Capela from playing in the Hawks' loss to Memphis on Monday. With the Hawks down big late into the fourth quarter, it's more than likely that Capela will watch the remainder of the game on the sidelines. The center will presumably be tabbed questionable heading into Friday's game against Charlotte.
Dec 13, 2022
Left off injury report
Capela (achilles) isn't on the injury report for Wednesday's game against the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Capela is available for Wednesday's game after missing Monday's matchup with the Grizzlies due to Achilles soreness. The 28-year-old big man will likely take his place in the starting lineup back from Onyeka Okongwu versus Orlando. Capela has recorded a double-double in his last eight appearances.
Dec 12, 2022
Out Monday
Capela (Achilles) is out for Monday's contest against the Grizzlies, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old center will officially miss his third outing of the season as he tends to Achilles soreness. Onyeka Okongwu figures to take Capela's place in the starting lineup Monday. Capela's next opportunity to rejoin the Hawks' starting lineup comes Wednesday in Orlando.
Dec 12, 2022
Questionable Monday
Capela is questionable for Monday's meeting with the Grizzlies due to left achilles soreness, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Considering the Hawks are on the second leg of a back-to-back and Capela has sat out one leg of the team's only other back-to-back this season, he may be given the night off to recover after extending his streak to eight consecutive double-doubles Sunday. If that were to be the case, Onyeka Okongwu would step into his place as the starting center.
Dec 12, 2022
Notches another double-double
Capela ended Sunday's 123-122 overtime win over the Bulls with 15 points (7-9 FG, 1-1 FT), 14 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal across 31 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela recorded his eighth consecutive double-double in the overtime win. In fact, in 25 games played this season, he's failed to log double-digit rebounds in only four of them. Sunday also marked his fourth straight game with at least one block. The veteran center has been about as consistent as they come this season, providing excellent value at his position.
Dec 10, 2022
Hums along with double-double
Capela chipped in 15 points (6-11 FG, 3-4 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal across 29 minutes during Friday's 120-116 loss to the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Capela's performance was pretty run-of-the-mill by his standards -- he's now double-doubled in each of his past seven games but hasn't exceeded 20 points or 16 boards during that span. That type of consistent production is very valuable in fantasy, though there is some disappointment in his recent downturn in the blocks department, as he's racked up a modest seven blocks over the seven-game span. Capela is fifth in the league with 15 double-doubles on the season, and he's averaging 11.8 points, 12.1 boards and 1.4 blocks overall across 24 contests.
Dec 6, 2022
Double-double against OKC
Capela finished with 14 points (7-10 FG), 16 rebounds and two blocks in 30 minutes during Monday's 121-114 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
It's Capela's 13th double-double of the season -- putting him just two behind league leaders Anthony Davis and Nikola Jokic -- and his fourth straight since returning from a brief two-game absence due to dental issues. Over his last 12 contests, the veteran center is averaging 13.5 points, 13.9 boards and 1.2 blocks while shooting 65.5 percent from the floor.
Dec 2, 2022
Set to play against Denver
Capela (ankle) is available to play in Friday's matchup with the Nuggets, Brad Rowland of Locked On Hawks reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been upgraded from questionable to available for Friday's game. Capela is averaging 11.5 points, 12.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 27.7 minutes across 20 games this season.
Dec 1, 2022
Questionable Friday
Capela is questionable to play in Friday's game against the Nuggets due to right ankle soreness, Brad Rowland of Locked on Hawks reports.
ANALYSIS
With John Collins (ankle) out and Frank Kaminsky (foot) questionable, Onyeka Okongwu could be due for a massive workload Friday. If Capela isn't able to suit up against Denver, his next opportunity to play will be Monday's game against the Thunder.
Nov 30, 2022
Scores 20 points in win
Capela notched 20 points (9-10 FG, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 29 minutes during Wednesday's 125-108 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Capela reached the 20-point mark for just the second time all season. Twelve of those points came in the first quarter as he made all six of his shot attempts. The 28-year-old has recorded double-digit rebounds in 16 of his last 18 games and is averaging 12.1 boards per game for the year.
Nov 29, 2022
Collects double-double in return
Capela totaled 10 points (4-9 FG, 2-4 FT), 16 rebounds and one steal in 33 minutes during Monday's 104-101 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Capela missed his squad's last two matchups due to dental pain, but he put together a strong showing in his return Monday evening. He's registered a double-double in three of his last four contests as he continues to make his presence known on the glass. He's also tallied three steals over his last three games.
Nov 28, 2022
Available Monday
Capela (dental pain) is available for Monday's contest against the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
After missing two straight games due to dental pain, Capela is back available for the Hawks. Onyeka Okongwu figures to return to his reserve role with Capela back in the lineup. Capela is averaging 11.1 points, 11.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks across 27.3 minutes throughout his first 18 appearances this season.
Nov 28, 2022
Listed as questionable
Capela (dental pain) is questionable for Monday's contest against the 76ers, Brad Rowland of Locked on Hawks reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has missed two consecutive contests due to the lingering issue, which has resulted in a pair of starts for Onyeka Okongwu. If Capela were to miss, Okongwu would be a strong streaming option once again considering he has averaged 5.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 2.0 blocks in 33.5 minutes per game over the past two games.
Nov 27, 2022
Not playing against Miami
Capela (mouth) has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Heat, Brad Rowland of Locked on Hawks reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela had originally been listed as a game-time call due to dental pain, an injury that already prevented him from playing Friday against the Rockets, and the big man is now set to miss a second straight contest. This means Onyeka Okongwu will probably start in his place, while Capela's next chance to play will come Monday against the 76ers in the second half of a back-to-back.
Nov 27, 2022
Headed for game-time decision
The Hawks view Capela (mouth) as a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with the Heat, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
With less than 90 minutes before the 5 p.m. ET tipoff, the Hawks remain uncertain if Capela will be available in any capacity after missing the team's last game Friday in Houston due to dental pain. If Capela misses another contest, Onyeka Okongwu would be in store for another start at center and would likely see most of the minutes at the position.
Nov 26, 2022
Questionable Sunday
Capela (dental pain) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Heat, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela sat out Friday's loss to the Rockets, which prompted Onyeka Okongwu to start and Frank Kaminsky to see backup minutes. The same should occur if Capela sits out again.
Nov 25, 2022
Out Friday
Capela will sit out Friday's game against the Rockets due to dental pain, Brad Rowland reports
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss his first game of the season due to pain from a dental procedure. In his absence, Onyeka Okongwu will likely slide into the starting center role while Frank Kaminsky and John Collins split the remaining minutes at the five. Capela's next chance to suit up will come Sunday against the Heat
Nov 25, 2022
Questionable Friday
Capela is questionable for Friday's game against the Hawks due to dental pain, Brad Rowland of Locked on Hawks reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is questionable to miss his first game of the season Friday. Onyeka Okongqu is likely to start if Capela can't play. Sunday's game against the Heat would be the 28-year-old big man's next chance to play.
Nov 24, 2022
Records ninth double-double
Capela notched 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-1 FT), 14 rebounds, one assist and three blocks over 28 minutes during Wednesday's 115-106 win over the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Capela did not miss a shot in the first half, going 4-of-4 from the field with nine points to go along with six first-half rebounds. The Hawks big man struggled to get anything going on offense in the second half, however, going just 1-of-6 with two points, though he did add another eight boards, three of which came on the offensive end. Capela finished with a game-high 14 rebounds to notch his ninth double-double of the season while he also recorded three blocks for the second time in his last three contests.
Nov 19, 2022
Returns to form
Capela had 18 points (9-13 FG), 14 rebounds, one assist and three blocks in 34 minutes during Saturday's 124-122 overtime victory over Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Capela looked like his usual self in Saturday's matchup after being held to seven points in 18 minutes Wednesday against the Celtics. He shot efficiently in the post and notched another stellar night on the glass, tallying his sixth double-double over nine contests in November.
Nov 15, 2022
Records double-double in win
Capela contributed 19 points (9-11 FG, 1-4 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 30 minutes during Monday's 121-106 victory over the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Capela went just 1-for-4 from the charity stripe but was very efficient with a 9-for-11 mark from the field. The big man finished with his fourth straight double-double and his seventh straight double-digit rebound effort. Capela is averaging 11.9 boards per contest on the campaign, second in the NBA behind Rudy Gobert.
Nov 12, 2022
Another double-double Saturday
Capela chipped in 14 points (7-9 FG) and 15 rebounds over 33 minutes during Saturday's 121-109 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Capela racked up his third straight double-double in the loss, continuing what has been a dominant stretch on the glass. He now has at least 14 rebounds in four of his past five games, putting to rest any fears in regard to Onyeka Okongwu coming for his starting spot. While he isn't the dominant shot blocker he once was, he is still swatting a respectable 1.5 shots per game.
Nov 11, 2022
Season-high 20 rebounds
Capela produced 18 points (7-10 FG, 4-6 FT) and 20 rebounds across 26 minutes during Thursday's 104-95 win over the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
For the second game in a row Capela set a season-high in rebounds with 20, with 12 of them coming in the third quarter to help the Hawks jump out to a 14-point lead. Capela also contributed early on offense, racking up eight first-quarter points and finishing the first half with 12 on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the field. The Hawks big man has now recorded double-digit rebounds in five straight contests, while grabbing at least 19 boards in three of his last four.
Nov 10, 2022
Grabs 19 rebounds in loss
Capela recorded 15 points (7-13 FG, 1-2 FT), 19 rebounds, two blocks and an assist in 26 minutes during Atlanta's 125-119 loss to the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Capela was a monster on the boards Wednesday night, matching a season-high with 19 rebounds, including seven in the first quarter. He added another eight boards in the third quarter while also going 4-of-5 from the field in the second half for eight points. It was Capela's second 19-rebound game in his last three contests, while he also recorded his fourth double-double of the season on Wednesday.
Nov 8, 2022
Owns glass with double-digit rebound mark
Capela chipped in five points (2-7 FG, 1-1 FT), 12 rebounds, one block and one steal across 22 minutes during Monday's 117-98 victory over the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Capela once again led Atlanta on the glass in a limited amount of playing time during a blowout victory, leading both teams in rebounds. Capela has hauled in 10 or more rebounds in seven of his 10 games this season, having done so in three straight outings.
Nov 5, 2022
Monster night on glass
Capela racked up 21 points (10-15 FG, 1-2 FT), 19 rebounds, one assist, four blocks and one steal over 35 minutes during Saturday's 124-121 overtime win over New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Capela turned in a strong shooting line and his best rebounding total of the young season, nearly doubling his previous best of 11 boards. Saturday was just the first time this season he's attempted more than 10 field goals, so it would be unwise to expect regular 20-point performances from the big man moving forward.
Oct 30, 2022
Posts double-double in loss
Capela registered 11 points (5-8 FG, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals across 29 minutes during Saturday's 123-115 loss to Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Capela has grabbed at least 10 rebounds in each of his last four contests, but he only has two double-doubles to show for it since he's been struggling massively on the offensive end of the court. The big man has yet to score 15 points in a game, and while he fantasy a decent fantasy asset in most formats, the lack of a consistent offensive output certainly hinders against his upside.
Oct 23, 2022
Double-double in loss
Capela finished with 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 23 minutes during Sunday's 126-109 loss to the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Capela grabbed six boards in the first quarter en route to posting his first double-double of the season. He had scored just 10 points combined in the first two games before Sunday's 14-point outburst. The 28-year-old is averaging 8.0 points and 8.3 rebounds through the first three contests and is seeking his sixth straight season averaging a double-double.
Oct 19, 2022
Starting Wednesday
Capela is in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Rockets, Adam Wexler of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Although limited for the past week with a thumb injury, Capela will return to his normal role. The center started 73 games for the Hawks last season and averaged 11.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per matchup.
Oct 18, 2022
Cleared for opener
Capela (thumb) is available for Wednesday's season opener against the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
A sprained thumb won't keep Capela out for the start of the year. He's starting at center again this season, but the development of Onyeka Okongwu has the potential to cut into Capela's minutes.
Oct 17, 2022
Practicing Monday
Capela (thumb) participated in Monday's practice session, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was held out of Friday's preseason finale against the Pelicans due to a right thumb sprain, but his return to practice is a good sign as the Hawks prepare for Wednesday's season-opener against the Rockets. His official status will be determined when the team releases its injury report, but it looks like Capela is on track to be available for Opening Night.
Oct 14, 2022
Remains out Friday
Capela (thumb) will not play in Friday's preseason game against the Pelicans, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela exited Wednesday's game versus the Cavaliers with a thumb sprain. Hawks coach Nate McMillan said there was no long-term concern, but his thumb is still sore. Capela will likely be available for the Hawks' regular-season opener Oct. 19 versus the Rockets, but updates early next week will confirm his status.
Oct 12, 2022
Won't return Wednesday
Capela won't return to Wednesday's preseason game against Cleveland due to a right thumb sprain.
ANALYSIS
Although the game is already deep into the fourth quarter, Capela is officially ruled out for the remainder of the contest with a thump sprain. The center posted eight points, 15 rebounds and four blocks in 23 minutes before exiting. Capela will presumably be tabbed day-to-day leading up to the team's final preseason game Friday versus New Orleans.
Apr 26, 2022
Won't return Tuesday
Capela won't return to Tuesday's Game 5 against the Heat due to a right knee injury, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The center has reportedly re-injured his right knee, the same injury which made him miss the first three games of the series. Capela posted two points and grabbed eight rebounds in 19 minutes before exiting.
Apr 26, 2022
Available Tuesday
Capela (knee) is available for Tuesday's Game 5 at Miami.
ANALYSIS
Capela was initially questionable but will be good to go, though the Hawks will be missing Bogdan Bogdanovic (knee). Capela made his series debut in Game 4, playing 21 minutes and posting two points (1-4 FG) and seven rebounds.
Apr 25, 2022
Listed questionable for Game 5
Capela (knee) is listed as questionable for Tuesday's Game 5 at Miami, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The big man made his return to the lineup for Sunday's Game 4, but he didn't offer much in 21 minutes of action, finishing with just two points and seven boards. He may be dealing with some soreness in his hyperextended right knee, so the Hawks will keep an eye on him over the next 24 hours before making an official call on his status. There's been no indication that Capela tweaked the knee, however, so he's likely closer to probable than questionable.
Apr 25, 2022
Doesn't offer much in return
Capela produced two points (1-4 FG) and seven rebounds in 21 minutes during Sunday's 110-86 loss to the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Making his series debut after missing Games 1 through 3 with a knee injury, Capela was back in the starting lineup at center, but he didn't look totally comfortable in his 21 minutes of action. While Capela did bring down seven rebounds, he failed to record any defensive stats. The Hawks will see how his knee responds Monday, but for now the expectation is that Capela will be good to go for Tuesday's Game 5 back in Miami.
Apr 24, 2022
Starting Game 4
Capela is starting Sunday's Game 4 against Miami, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been cleared to return Sunday following a three-game absence due to a knee injury, and he'll officially rejoin the starting lineup. However, it's possible that he'll have a minutes restriction in his first game back.
Apr 24, 2022
Available for Game 4
Capela (knee) is available for Sunday's Game 4 against Miami.
ANALYSIS
Capela was a game-time decision ahead of Saturday's matchup, and he'll officially be able to return following a three-game absence. It's not yet clear whether he'll start or have a minutes restriction against the Heat, but he'll be a nice addition to Atlanta's defense in Game 4.
Apr 24, 2022
Expected to be game-time decision
Hawks head coach Nate McMillan said Capela (knee) is a game-time decision ahead of Sunday's Game 4 against the Heat, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
In a surprising move, Capela was upgraded to questionable Saturday after being re-evaluated during Friday's practice. If the big man is able to return, it's possible he'll be on a minutes limit and/or come off the bench. Either way, his potential presence would be a big boost for Atlanta's defense, which has struggled in his absence.
Apr 23, 2022
Questionable for Game 4
Capela (knee) is questionable for Sunday's Game 4 against the Heat, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
This is big news for the Hawks, who have been without Capela since losing him in their do-or-die play-in victory over the Cavaliers. If the center returns, he could be on a minutes limit and/or come off the bench. Onyeka Okongwu could be in line for fewer minutes in that case.
Apr 19, 2022
Re-evaluation coming Friday
General manager Travis Schlenk said Tuesday that Capela (knee) has restarted strength exercises and will be re-evaluated Friday, Mike Conti of the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
If Capela is determined to have made significant progress in his recovery from the hyperextended right knee when he's re-examined Friday, he could be cleared to resume on-court work. Even so, it's unlikely that Capela would be immediately ready for full-contact, full-court practices, so the 27-year-old may have a tough time getting the green light to play in the Hawks' first-round series with the Heat, unless it ends up being pushed to six or seven games.
Apr 16, 2022
Out at least one week
Capela (knee) suffered no structural damage but will be out at least a week, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela avoided any serious issues, but it seems unlikely he'll be able to return before Game 4, and it's not clear if he'll be available at any point in the series. In his absence, second-year center Onyeka Okongwu and veteran floor-spacer Gorgui Dieng will see an uptick in workload.
Apr 15, 2022
Outlook optimistic
The Hawks are are optimistic that Capela avoided significant right knee damage, but he will undergo an MRI Saturday to determine the extent of his injury, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela left Friday's victory over the Cavaliers after hyperextending his knee. While his initial outlook is optimistic, it remains to be seen what his timetable for a return is. The Hawks will take on the Heat in Round 1, with Game 1 tipping off on Sunday. Onyeka Okongwu would be the prime beneficiary should Capela ultimately miss time.
Apr 15, 2022
Will not return
Capela will not return to Friday's do-or-die play-in game versus the Cavaliers due to right knee hyperextension, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela injured his knee after Evan Mobley of the Cavaliers fell into it. He was subsequently helped off the court. The severity of his injury is not known at this time.
Apr 11, 2022
Logs double-double in season finale
Capela finished with 18 points (7-10 FG, 4-4 FT), 13 rebounds, two blocks and one steal across 23 minutes during Sunday's 130-114 win over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Capela has now recorded double-doubles in three of his past four games and will find himself in a favorable matchup against the Hornets, who have had trouble defending the interior all season. Capela's numbers are trending in the right direction, so he could be in for a big Wednesday night.
Apr 9, 2022
Double-doubles in loss
Capela recorded 17 points (8-11 FG, 1-3 FT) and 14 rebounds in 27 minutes during Friday's 113-109 loss to the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Capela was efficient from the field en route to his sixth double-digit scoring performance over his last eight games. During that stretch, the veteran big man has registered five double-doubles and averaged 14.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.0 assists in 27.4 minutes per game.
Apr 7, 2022
Efficient performance in win
Capela ended with 19 points (9-11 FG, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds and four steals over 25 minutes during Wednesday's 118-103 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Capela registered multiple steals for a fourth consecutive game and finished with at least four for just the second time this season. Offensively, he was efficient from the field en route to his fifth double-digit scoring performance over his last five games. During that stretch, he's averaged 13.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.1 assists in 27.4 minutes per game.
Apr 1, 2022
Double-double against Cavs
Capela registered 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-5 FT), 14 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and two steals across 23 minutes during Thursday's 131-107 win over the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
He took advantage of the absence of Evan Mobley (ankle), grabbing his third double-double in the last four games while recording multiple blocks and steals in a game for the first time since early December. Capela can be inconsistent from night to night, but over 17 games in March he averaged 11.2 points, 11.1 boards and 1.0 blocks.
Mar 29, 2022
Monster double-double
Capela closed with 22 points (11-17 FG), 15 rebounds and three assists in 31 minutes during Monday's 132-123 victory over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Over this past week, Capela has logged two duds and now followed them up with two stellar performances. He co-led the starters in scoring Monday, while stringing together consecutive double-doubles. Capela has a porous defense awaiting in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Mar 24, 2022
Falls out of boat, misses water
Capela registered one point (0-5 FG, 1-2 FT) and nine rebounds in 17 minutes during Wednesday's 122-101 loss to the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Capela has now combined for three points over his last two games. The bewildering, nonexistent scoring production has been an abrupt falloff after he averaged 13.5 points per game over six contests prior. Even with John Collins (foot) out for the foreseeable future, the dividends for Capela are lacking. It may be ugly at times, but riding the wave with Capela is likely the best course of action.
Mar 19, 2022
Excellent shooting performance
Capela chipped in 18 points (9-10 FG), seven rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal across 28 minutes during Friday's 120-105 victory over the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Capela only missed one of his shots from the field and ended just three rebounds away from posting what would've been his third double-double over his last five appearances. One of the best two-way players in The Association, Capela is averaging 11.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per game over his last 10 contests.
Mar 17, 2022
Double-double in loss
Capela registered 17 points (7-14 FG, 3-3 FT), 15 rebounds, one assist and one steal across 31 minutes during Wednesday's 116-106 loss to the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Capela finished with the second-most points on the team behind only De'Andre Hunter (21 points) in his highest scoring output since Jan. 3. He also recorded his sixth double-double since returning from an ankle injury in late January, while seeing north of 30 minutes for the first time in over a week. Capela should remain productive on the glass as long as he can stay healthy going forward.
Mar 13, 2022
Perfect from field
Capela closed Sunday's 131-128 win over the Pacers with 10 points (5-5 FG), six rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals over 22 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela was outscored by six of his teammates, but he nonetheless supplied a productive offensive performance. Of more concern is Capela's dwindling playing time, as the big man has received under 25 minutes in three of his last five games. Capela is operating with a limited ceiling moving forward.
Mar 3, 2022
Double-double against Bulls
Capela scored 12 points (5-5 FG, 2-2 FT) while adding 11 rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes during Thursday's 130-124 win over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
It was the 25th double-double of the season for the center, but only his third in 18 games since he returned from an ankle injury in late January. Capela only recently started seeing his usual workload on a consistent basis, however, and he's averaging 8.6 points, 11.6 boards and 1.3 blocks in 27.9 minutes a game over the last seven contests.
Feb 24, 2022
Massive performance on glass
Capela racked up 14 points (7-11 FG), 17 rebounds and two blocks across 29 minutes during Thursday's 112-108 loss to the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Capela secured 17 rebounds for the second time in four games in the loss, but his scoring has been lacking of late. After averaging 11.3 points through his first 42 games of the season, he's putting up just 7.8 points over eight games in February, attempting only 5.4 field goals per contest during the cold stretch.
Feb 11, 2022
Double-doubles in Friday's loss
Capela chipped in 13 points (6-6 FG, 1-2 FT), 11 rebounds and one block across 21 minutes during Friday's 136-121 loss to San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Capela recorded his first double-double since all the way back in early January, a stat that tells you all you need to know about where his game is at right now. His playing time has been drastically reduced, likely as a result of his ongoing injury concerns. While he isn't dealing with a specific injury, the Hawks are seemingly trying to manage him through to ensure he is available for the postseason, should they still be alive then. The limited minutes do put a cap on his fantasy upside, although he still warrants a roster spot thanks to his ability to rack up boards and blocks while scoring efficiently from the floor.
Feb 4, 2022
Grabs 12 boards in victory
Capela racked up six points (2-4 FG, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds, four assists and one block across 25 minutes during Thursday's 124-115 victory over the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Capela continued to be passive on the offensive end of the floor but did salvage his evening with 12 boards. His playing time also continues to hover around the mid-20s, a number that fantasy managers would love to see increase. Surprisingly, both teams opted to play a decent amount of small-ball in this one, despite the fact they are laden with traditional bigs. John Collins suffered a shoulder injury late in the fourth quarter and if he does miss any time, there could be a few more minutes available for both Capela and Onyeka Okongwu.
Jan 23, 2022
Back in starting five
Capela will start Sunday's game against the Hornets, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela made his return to action Friday against Miami and saw 26 minutes of action off the bench, finishing with six points, six rebounds and two assists in 26 minutes. While he'll remain on a minutes restriction Sunday, he'll move back into the starting five, while Onyeka Okongwu shifts to the bench.
Jan 23, 2022
Remains on minutes restriction
Capela will have a minutes restriction for Sunday's game against the Hornets, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela returned from a six-game absence Friday against the Heat and played 26 minutes off the bench, and it appears he'll have a similar workload for Sunday's contest. He should again split work at center with Onyeka Okongwu, who played 25 minutes Friday as the starter.
Jan 22, 2022
Splits minutes with Okongwu
Capela (ankle) posted six points (3-3 FG), six rebounds and two assists Friday in the Hawks' 110-108 win over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
For the first time all season, Capela made an appearance off the bench as the Hawks looked to ease him back into the mix following a six-game absence. Onyeka Okongwu retained the starting job, but he essentially split the center minutes with Capela, logging 25 to the latter's 26. Expect the gap between the two to become larger once Capela has a chance to fully regain conditioning, and there's a good chance that the 27-year-old recaptures his familiar starting role as soon as Sunday's game in Charlotte.
Jan 21, 2022
Coming off bench Friday
Capela isn't starting Friday's game against Miami, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will be available following a six-game absence due to an ankle injury, but he'll have a minutes restriction during his first game back on the court. Onyeka Okongwu will draw his third consecutive start Friday.
Jan 21, 2022
Available on minutes limit
Capela (ankle) is available on a minutes limit for Friday's matchup against the Heat, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks will ease the center back into a normal workload following a six-game absence. As a result, Onyeka Okongwu should still be viable in fantasy Friday, but his role will presumably take a hit moving forward.
Jan 21, 2022
Goes through shootaround
Capela (ankle) went through Friday's morning shootaround and will be a game-time decision against the Heat, source reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has missed six straight games due to a sprained left ankle and is officially listed as questionable for Friday's game. If the 27-year-old is able to suit up, it wouldn't be surprising to see him on a minutes restriction during his first game back in action.
Jan 20, 2022
Questionable Friday
Capela (ankle) is questionable for Friday's game against Miami, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been unavailable for the last six games due to a sprained left ankle, but he'll have a chance to return to the court Friday. If the 27-year-old is able to suit up, it wouldn't be surprising to see him on a minutes restriction during his first game back in action.
Jan 18, 2022
Out again Wednesday
Capela (ankle) won't play Wednesday against the Timberwolves, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela will miss a sixth straight game with a left ankle sprain. However, Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk said Tuesday that he's hopeful that big man will be able to rejoin the lineup by the weekend. The Hawks conclude their four-game week with a pair of matchups Friday (versus Miami) and Sunday (at Charlotte).
Jan 18, 2022
Eyeing weekend return
Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk said Tuesday that he's hopeful Capela (ankle) will be able to rejoin the lineup by the weekend, Mike Conti of the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Schlenk reiterated that Capela's sprained left ankle isn't a long-term injury, but based on the GM's comments, the Hawks will likely remain without their starting center for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves. The Hawks will conclude their four-game week with a pair of matchups Friday (versus Miami) and Sunday (at Charlotte), so it's possible Capela could be available for either or both of those contests. Onyeka Okongwu is expected to pick up another start Wednesday while Capela misses a sixth consecutive contest.
Jan 16, 2022
Ruled out Monday
Capela (ankle) has been ruled out Monday against the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Capela will be unavailable for a fifth consecutive game. Gorgui Dieng has taken on a starting role in his absence.
Jan 15, 2022
Out Saturday
Capela (ankle) is out for Saturday's matchup against the Knicks, Steve Popper of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela will sit out for a fourth straight game. Gorgui Dieng will start and should see extra minutes along with Onyeka Okongwu.
Jan 15, 2022
Doubtful Saturday
Capela (ankle) is doubtful for Saturday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been unavailable for each of the last three games due to a left ankle sprain, and he appears to be on track for another absence Saturday. If he's ultimately sidelined, Onyeka Okongwu and John Collins should continue to see additional work.
Jan 13, 2022
Ruled out Friday
Capela (ankle) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Capela will be forced to miss a third consecutive game after he failed to participate in practice Thursday. Whether he's available for Saturday's matchup against the Knicks remains to be seen.
Jan 13, 2022
Doesn't practice Thursday
Capela (ankle) didn't participate in practice Thursday, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has missed the last two games due to a sprained left ankle. His status for Friday's game against Miami isn't yet clear, but his absence from practice isn't encouraging.

Out Wednesday
Capela (ankle) is out Wednesday against the Heat, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela will miss a second straight game. In his place, Onyeka Okongwu should draw another start.
Jan 12, 2022
Remains unlikely to play Wednesday
Capela (ankle) is listed as doubtful and didn't go through shootaround ahead of Wednesday's contest against the Heat, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is expected to miss a second straight game due to the left ankle sprain. In his likely absence, Onyeka Okongwu should draw a second consecutive start.
Jan 11, 2022
Doubtful Wednesday
Capela (ankle) is doubtful for Wednesday's contest against the Heat, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is expected to miss a second straight game. In his place, Onyeka Okongwu should draw a second straight start.
Jan 11, 2022
Doesn't practice Tuesday
Capela (ankle) didn't practice Tuesday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela left Friday's loss to the Lakers after suffering an ankle injury. He was then sidelined for Sunday's contest against the Clippers after showing no improvements. It appears he's trending towards a second straight absence after not practicing Tuesday, but the Hawks haven't ruled him out yet. With Capela sidelined, Onyeka Okongwu has totaled 21 points and 17 rebounds over the last two games and would likely draw another start at center if Capela is is unable to suit up Wednesday.
Jan 9, 2022
Won't play Sunday
Hawks acting head coach Chris Jent said Capela (ankle) won't be available for Sunday's game against the Clippers, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Listed as doubtful heading into the day, Capela will miss his first game since Dec. 23 after showing "no improvement" with his sprained left ankle since exiting Friday's loss to the Lakers, per Jent. Onyeka Okongwu is expected to start at center in place of Capela, while forwards John Collins and Jalen Johnson could be called on to serve as small-ball options at the position when needed.
Jan 8, 2022
Doubtful Sunday
Capela (ankle) is doubtful Sunday against the Clippers, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela exited Friday's game against the Lakers due to an ankle injury, and he'll likely need more time to recover. In his presumed absence, Onyeka Okongwu should start and see more minutes.
Jan 8, 2022
Injures ankle
Capela left Friday's matchup with the Lakers after suffering an ankle injury, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela accumulated nine points (4-9 FG, 1-5 FT), 11 rebounds and one steal across 23 minutes before exiting with an ankle injury. The severity is unknown at this time, but he was unable to return. If he is forced to miss any time going forward, Onyeka Okonwu would presumably be in line for some extra run. His next chance to suit up will come Sunday versus the Lakers.
Jan 6, 2022
Registers another double-double
Capela amassed 11 points (5-9 FG, 1-4 FT), 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in 26 minutes during Wednesday's 108-102 win over Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
Capela led all players in rebounding in the contest and scored just enough to finish with his fourth straight double-double. The veteran center was a drag from the free-throw line, but his fantasy managers have come to expect that as he is shooting just 47.8 percent from the charity stripe this season. That number is tempered by the fact that he is taking just 2.6 free-throws per game, and Capela's 11.9 points, 13.1 boards, 1.5 blocks and 57.4 percent field-goal rate make him a solid producer of big-man stats in fantasy.
Jan 4, 2022
Registers double-double Monday
Capela had 22 points (10-10 FG, 2-5 FT), 11 rebounds and one assist in 32 minutes during Monday's 136-131 loss to the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Trae Young was the star for Atlanta with 56 points and 14 dimes in the loss, but Capela impressed as well with his perfect 10-for-10 shooting effort from the field. The big man added to the efficient offensive production with 11 boards to finish with his third straight double-double. Capela is averaging 19.3 points and 16.3 rebounds over the three-game stretch.
Jan 1, 2022
Grabs season-high 23 boards
Capela posted 18 points (9-17 FG), 23 rebounds, four blocks, two assists and one steal in 40 minutes during Friday's 121-118 win over the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Capela was dominant on the glass against the intimidating frontline of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, as he went for a season-high 23 boards -- 11 of which were offensive. In his four games since returning from protocols, the center has averaged 14.7 points, 15.8 boards, 2.3 assists and 1.8 blocks in 30.9 minutes.
Dec 30, 2021
Records double-double in loss
Capela ended Wednesday's loss to the Bulls with 18 points (7-14 FG, 4-4 FT), 15 rebounds and three assists across 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
After two poor performances since returning from COVID protocols, Capela was able to return to his usual production recording his 19th double-double of the season. Although the 27-year-old's offensive production has been somewhat inconsistent, his rebounding figures have been solid as he has had 10-plus rebounds in 9 of his last 10 games. Capela is now averaging 10.8 points and 12.4 rebounds over his previous five games.
Dec 25, 2021
Solid game in return
Capela posted six points (2-7 FG, 2-6 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and two blocks across 28 minutes during Saturday's 101-87 loss to the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Capela returned following a two-game absence and put on a solid effort. He's seen fewer than 30 minutes in each of his past three appearances, but with Onyeka Okongwu now in protocols, Capela could go back to seeing a higher workload.
Dec 25, 2021
Will play on Christmas
Capela will be available for Saturday's Christmas Day game against the Knicks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The big man has been cleared from COVID-19 protocols and will be back in action after missing the last two contests. He'll presumably slot back into the starting lineup at center.
Dec 21, 2021
Enters COVID-19 protocols
Capela was placed in the league's health and safety protocols Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela joins Danilo Gallinari and Trae Young in COVID-19 protocols. In his potential absence, Onyeka Okongwu -- who made his season debut Dec. 17 after recovering from a shoulder injury -- will likely step into the starting lineup while Gorgui Dieng operates as the primary backup.
Dec 19, 2021
Sunday's game postponed
Sunday's scheduled game against the Cavaliers has been postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak on the Cavaliers' roster, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cavaliers reported early Sunday morning that they had five more players test positive for COVID-19, bringing their team total up to seven. Cleveland was going to struggle to roster the league-required minimum number of players, and so the game was ultimately postponed. Capela and the Hawks will look to stay as healthy as possible ahead of Wednesday's meeting against the Magic.
Dec 17, 2021
Another double-double in loss
Capela contributed 15 points (7-10 FG, 1-5 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and three blocks over 24 minutes during Friday's 133-115 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Capela took his place in the starting lineup, as usual, ending with a serviceable double-double. Thus far, Capela has failed to live up to expectations. On a more positive note, he has been able to stay relatively healthy, something that was certainly a concern heading into the season. His lack of scoring range does limit him somewhat, especially when matched up against teams built to score from beyond the perimeter.
Dec 17, 2021
Cleared to play
Capela (illness) will play Friday against the Nuggets, Harrison Wind of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was dealing with an illness earlier in the day but feels well enough to take the court. Over the past five games, he's averaged 10.0 points, 14.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in 30.8 minutes.
Dec 17, 2021
Questionable Friday
Capela (non-COVID illness) is questionable for Friday's contest against the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
The 6-foot-10 center has started each of Atlanta's 28 showings this season, but has popped up questionable for Friday's contest against Denver. If Capela can't suit up, expect the likes of John Collins and Gorgui Dieng to see more opportunities. Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) is also aiming to make his season debut Friday night, but will be on a minute restriction.
Dec 15, 2021
Grabs 11 rebounds Wednesday
Capela finished with seven points (3-7 FG, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal across 27 minutes during Wednesday's 111-99 victory over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Capela was the leading rebounding for the Hawks during their victory, as the center grabbed double figures for a sixth straight matchup. Capela is currently third in the league in rebounds-per-game behind leader Rudy Robert and Nikola Jokic. The 2014 first-round pick has also recorded 18 double-doubles which leads the team by a hefty margin.
Dec 7, 2021
Gets back to basics Monday
Capela contributed nine points (3-7 FG, 3-4 FT), 16 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and one steal across 30 minutes during Monday's 121-110 victory over the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Capela did what he does best during the win, dominating on the glass while also swatting four shot attempts. After a handful of sub-par performances, fantasy managers have to be thrilled with this effort, showing he can still be one of the best rim-protectors in the league. Despite the mildly inconsistent production of late, the playing time has been highly encouraging and so he should be able to work his way back to his ADP range in no time.
Nov 28, 2021
Posts strong double-double
Capela supplied 16 points (8-14 FG), 21 rebounds, one assist, three blocks and one steal over 35 minutes during Saturday's 99-90 loss to the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Capela wasn't as sharp as he can be with his shooting, but he certainly made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball with a season-high 21 boards. He has posted five straight double-doubles and has also recorded three straight games with at least three blocks, so he's finding ways to deliver value in more than just scoring.
Nov 27, 2021
Puts up monster double-double
Capela had 23 points (11-14 FG, 1-4 FT), 17 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and one steal across 29 minutes during Friday's 132-100 win over Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Capela was efficient from the field, an absolute menace on the glass and a consistent presence on the defensive side of the ball, so there's no question he was able to make a big impact throughout the game. The big man has posted four straight double-doubles and has reached that feat in eight of his last nine contests.
Nov 22, 2021
Nabs second straight double-double
Capela finished with 10 points (5-9 FG) and 14 rebounds over 30 minutes during Monday's 113-101 win over the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Capela continues to produce with incredible efficiency, as he's converted on 33 of his last 46 attempts from the field (five games). He's also been a force on the glass, averaging 14.0 rebounds over that stretch. Capela has also secured 10 or more boards in 15 of 18 games in 2021, which is a great indication early in the season for fantasy managers.
Nov 21, 2021
Logs double-double vs. Hornets
Capela logged 20 points (10-11 FG), 15 rebounds, two blocks and one assist across 24 minutes during a 115-105 win Saturday versus Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
Capela logged three double-doubles across the Hawks' last four home games. He averaged 15.3 points -- on a 75.7 field goal percentage -- and 14.0 rebounds during that span. Considering the tallies are similar to Capela's 2020-21 NBA season averages, he remains a promising option despite concerns about his statistical output before November commenced.
Nov 17, 2021
Nearly tallies double-double
Capela totaled nine points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block during Wednesday's win against Boston.
ANALYSIS
Capela nearly tallied his fifth straight double-double, as the center ultimately finished just one point shy. After a relatively slow start to the season over the first five games, Capela has picked up the pace lately, and is averaging 13.6 points and a hefty 13.2 rebounds across his past five appearances. The 2014 first-round selection currently leads the Hawks in rebounding as well as in blocks.
Nov 16, 2021
Logs monster double-double
Capela logged 20 points (8-9 FG, 4-6 FT), 16 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and three steals in 34 minutes during Monday's 129-111 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Capela is not known for his scoring exploits but certainly made his presence felt in this one, missing just one of his shots en route to a season-high scoring output. As if that wasn't enough, Capela also tied his season-high mark in rebounds and has now recorded a double-double in four straight contests.
Nov 14, 2021
Double-Double on Sunday
Capela finished with 12 points (6-10 FG), 13 reports, two rebounds and two steals in 31 minutes during Atlanta's 120-100 win over the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
The 6-foot-10 center posted his third straight double-double during Atlanta's big win over Milwaukee. This was one of Capela's more efficient performances of the season as his 53.3 percent shooting mark from the field would be his lowest total since his rookie season. Capela continues to be a good source for points and rebounds, but his lack of posting other stats still damages his fantasy value.
Nov 10, 2021
Well-rounded effort
Capela finished with 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-7 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in a 110-98 loss to the Jazz on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Coming off his worst performance of the season (two points, six rebounds), Capela rebounded (no pun intended) with a prototypical performance. He hasn't lived up to his ADP, but plays as advertised. Capela is averaging 9.9 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks, averaging 28.5 minutes through 12 contests.
Nov 4, 2021
Grabs 16 rebounds in loss
Capela scored 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-3 FT) and added 16 rebounds, one assist and one steal across 33 minutes of Wednesday's loss to the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been dominating the glass recently as he was able to record his third consecutive double-double and notch a season-high in rebounds. The 27-year-old's scoring numbers have stalled this year as he is now averaging just 10.3 points compared to 15.2 last season. If Capela can be a consistent scoring threat, he will be a double-double threat each time he steps on the court.
Nov 2, 2021
Improved offensive performance
Capela closed with 16 points (7-9 FG, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal in 33 minutes during Monday's 118-111 victory over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Capela found his offensive rhythm Monday, turning in arguably his best all-around effort of the season. Statistical production aside, perhaps the biggest positive to come out of the victory was the fact he played 33 minutes. After a shaky start to the season, his playing time looks to be steadily increasing and this can only bode well for his immediate future.
Oct 30, 2021
Produces double-double in loss
Capela finished with 11 points (4-11 FG, 3-4 FT), 12 rebounds and one block in 28 minutes during Saturday's 122-94 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Capela looked a little better in the loss, although a matchup with Joel Embiid is never a recipe for success. It has been an inauspicious start for Capela this season, although the fact he has remained relatively healthy is a real positive. Fantasy managers need to keep one eye on the injury report ahead of most games given he is still dealing with an Achilles issue but for right now, he appears good to go moving forward.
Oct 27, 2021
Grabs 12 boards with three blocks
Capela finished Wednesday's win over the Pelicans with five points (2-8 FG, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist, one steal and three blocks.
ANALYSIS
It was an uncharacterstically inefficient night from the floor for the big man, but he notched his third double-digit rebounding game in four appearances thus far. Capela has blocked a shot in all four games and has not missed any time despite dealing with a nagging Achiles issue that resulted in a minutes limit to begin the regular season.
Oct 24, 2021
Plays 27 minutes
Capela recorded 10 points (5-12 FG, 0-2 FT), 14 rebounds, two blocks and one assist during a 101-95 loss Saturday at Cleveland. He played 27 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela played six more minutes than he did Wednesday versus Dallas. He logged a double-double during both of the Hawks' last two games (despite a minutes limit), so his fantasy managers should be excited when they remove any restrictions.
Oct 23, 2021
Minutes limit increasing
Capela will see his minutes limit increase ahead of Saturday's game against the Cavaliers, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He played 20 minutes in the opener.
ANALYSIS
Capela's workload will be increased gradually, so it seems fair to expect the center to garner 25 minutes Saturday. In the opener, he posted 12 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks.
Oct 21, 2021
Perfect from field
Capela produced 12 points (6-6 FG, 0-1 FT), 13 rebounds and two blocks on Thursday in the Hawks' 113-87 win over the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Capela played only 21 minutes, but was uber-efficient in his time on the floor. A double-double machine, this performance is closer to Capela's floor than his ceiling for fantasy purposes. Capela will duel with Jarrett Allen versus Cleveland on Saturday.
Oct 21, 2021
Will see limited minutes
Capela will start Thursday's game against Dallas but will have an unspecified minutes restriction, Sarah Spencer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
The big man was not listed on the injury report, but he's apparently still dealing with the Achilles issue that limited him during the preseason. It's unclear just how many minutes Capela will see, but one of the league's best rebounders won't have quite as much fantasy upside Thursday.
Oct 14, 2021
Playing limited minutes Thursday
Capela (Achilles) is going to start and play limited minutes during Thursday's preseason finale against the Heat, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela had been dealing with an Achilles injury in the preseason, which was concerning given his Achilles bothered him for much of last season. However, he'll get some game action in Thursday before the Hawks' season opener Oct. 21 against the Mavericks.
Oct 13, 2021
Questionable Thursday
Capela (Achilles) is questionable for Thursday's preseason finale against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Capela started live work in practice for the first time Monday, and he might be feeling good enough to get some run in before the regular season. Regardless of his status for the preseason finale, it seems likely the center will be ready for the opener Oct. 21 against the Mavericks.
Oct 8, 2021
May miss entire preseason
Capela (Achilles) has yet to do any live work during the preseason and coach Nate McMillan is "skeptical" that Capela will be ready for the Hawks preseason finale, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been dealing with an aggravated Achilles since the 2019-20 season. The center received a PRP injection during the offseason which is expected to hold him out for most of the preseason. It's still uncertain if Capela will be ready to go for the Hawks' season opener against the Mavericks.
Oct 5, 2021
Out Wednesday
Capela (Achilles) is out for Wednesday's preseason contest against the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Capela is still nursing a sore Achilles, and he'll miss a second straight preseason contest. Gorgui Dieng will presumably start at center again.
Oct 3, 2021
Won't play Monday
Capela (Achilles) won't play in Monday's preseason opener against the Heat, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been limited in training camp after he received a PRP injection in his Achilles during the offseason, so it's not very surprising to see him held out Monday. However, the center hopes to be ready for the start of the regular season.
Sep 27, 2021
Had PRP injection in Achilles
Capela will be limited to begin training camp after receiving a PRP injection in his Achilles during the offseason, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Achilles has bothered Capela dating back to the 2019-20 season, and he revealed Monday that he played through discomfort for much of last season. The big man added that he's "still ramping up" as he recovers from the injection, but the his goal is to be ready for the start of the regular season. At this point, it's likely Capela will miss multiple preseason contests, but the situation shouldn't have a major impact on his fantasy stock.
Sep 1, 2021
Agrees to two year extension
Capela agreed Wednesday to a two-year, $46 million extension, which puts him under contract with the Hawks through 2024-25, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite not making an All-Star game, Capela has established himself as one of the better traditional centers in the NBA. He led the league in rebounding (14.3 RPG) last season while also averaging 15.2 points and 2.0 blocks. He and Trae Young will continue to make up a great pick-and-roll combo.
Jul 1, 2021
Will play in Game 5
Capela (eye) is available for Thursday's Game 5 against the Bucks, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was hit in the face at the end of Game 4 and suffered eye inflammation, but he'll be able to play in Game 5 with the series tied 2-2 and Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) out for Milwaukee. So far in the series, Capela has averaged 9.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 29.3 minutes.
Jun 30, 2021
Questionable for Game 5
Capela is questionable for Thursday's Game 5 against the Bucks due to right eye inflammation, Mark Stein of The New York Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was hit in the face at the end of Game 4 and exited the contest without much time remaining. If he's unable to play Thursday, more playing time would be available for Onyeka Okongwu, John Collins and Solomon Hill.
Jun 29, 2021
Heads to locker room
Capela went to the locker room after taking an elbow to the face during the fourth quarter of Tuesday's Game 4 against the Bucks, Malika Andrews of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela had a towel pressed against his forehead as he walked back to the locker room, so it's possible he's dealing with a significant laceration. For now, he should be considered questionable for Thursday's Game 5.
Jun 24, 2021
Plays role to perfection in win
Capela ended with 12 points (6-9 FG), 19 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 38 minutes during Wednesday's 116-113 victory over Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Capela produced yet another double-double in the victory but it was his intangible production that was perhaps the biggest takeaway. Not only did he rack up more than adequate contributions on both ends of the floor, but he also limited Brook Lopez to just seven points and two rebounds in 20 minutes. By removing Lopez from the equation, the Hawks were able to attack the rim a little more with the Bucks down a rim protector.
Jun 19, 2021
Scores 14 with 11 boards
Capela mustered 14 points (6-10 FG, 2-6 FT), 11 rebounds and an assist across 38 minutes in Friday's loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Capela has three double-doubles in the series, but he has yet to score more than 14 points in a single game and has grabbed single-digit rebounds twice as well, as he's had all sorts of problems dealing with Joel Embiid on both ends of the court. It's hard to rely on the big man at this point even if he's shooting 54.9 percent from the field while averaging a double-double (10.2 points, 11.0 rebounds) during the series.
Jun 2, 2021
Records another double-double
Capela registered 14 points (6-7 FG, 2-2 FT), 15 rebounds, two blocks and a steal across 37 minutes in Wednesday's win over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Capela was an elite two-way presence during the entire regular season and showed his value in the playoffs once again, as he recorded three straight double-doubles to close out the first round. His scoring numbers weren't impressive during the series since he averaged just 10.0 points per game, but he also provided 11.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per tilt. He is in line for a tougher matchup next round against the Sixers and, potentially, Joel Embiid (knee).
May 30, 2021
Secures 15 boards, Hawks go up 3-1
Capela finished Sunday's Game 4 against the Hawks with 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-4 FT), 15 rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela was one of three Hawks starters to play fewer than 30 minutes (28), but he didn't need extensive time to notch his second straight double-double. The big man hasn't been much of a force as a scorer in the series (9.0 PPG), but he's grabbed at least 12 rebounds in four straight games. Prior to Sunday's block-less effort, Capela had averaged 3.0 swats per game through the first three matchups.
May 29, 2021
Double-double in Game 3 win
Capela scored 13 points (6-8 FG, 1-2 FT) while adding 12 rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 34 minutes during Friday's 105-94 win over the Knicks in Game 3.
ANALYSIS
The big man has ripped down double-digit boards in all three games in the series, but this was his first double-double. Capela has also recorded multiple rejections in each contest, averaging 8.7 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks to help the Hawks to 2-1 lead.
May 27, 2021
Blocks five with 12 boards
Capela tallied four points (2-5 FG), 12 rebounds, five blocks and one steal in 36 minutes during Wednesday's 101-92 loss to the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old has been solid through his first two games of the Atlanta/New York playoff series, averaging 6.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks on 50 percent field-goal shooting in that span. It's safe to say, Capela has successfully carried over his career-high 14.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game from the regular season into the playoffs. Atlanta will need the seven-year center to keep up his impressive rebounding and blocking pace if the Hawks want to pull off the Game 3 victory at home on Friday.
May 16, 2021
Ruled out Sunday
Capela (Achilles) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rockets, Cayleigh Griffin of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will be held out due to left Achilles soreness but could return for the playoffs. Onyeka Okongwu should see an increased workload Sunday.
May 16, 2021
Uncertain for Sunday
Capela (Achilles) is questionable for Sunday's game against Houston, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela's status for the last game of the regular season is uncertain due to left Achilles soreness. If he doesn't play, Onyeka Okongwu would likely see an increased workload.
May 13, 2021
Posts 48th double-double
Capela registered 14 points (5-11 FG, 4-6 FT), 14 rebounds and two steals in 26 minutes during Thursday's 116-93 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old now has seven double-doubles over his last eight games, a span in which he's averaging 13.9 points, 12.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. Capela is averaging a career-high 14.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in his seventh year in the NBA. He'll look to end the regular season on a high note Sunday at home against the Rockets.
May 13, 2021
Cleared to play
Capela (heel) is available for Thursday's contest against the Magic, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Heel pain caused Capela to be a game-time call, but he'll end up playing in the Hawks' second-to-last game of the regular season. Over the past six games, he's averaged 14.3 points, 12.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 30.5 minutes.
May 13, 2021
Game-time call
Capela (heel) is considered a game-time call for Thursday's matchup against Orlando, Sarah Spencer of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks are likely just being careful with the big man on the second half of a back-to-back and with a vastly inferior opponent on the schedule. Entering Thursday, Capela is averaging 12.4 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 28.6 minutes over his last 10 appearances.
May 13, 2021
Questionable with heel pain
Capela is questionable for Thursday's game against the Magic due to right heel pain, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has dealt with foot, heel and Achilles pain during various points of the season, and the issue appears to be affecting him again. If he sits out Thursday, Onyeka Okongwu is likely to draw the start.
May 13, 2021
Secures double-double in win
Capela collected 17 points (7-7 FG, 3-5 FT), 11 rebounds and two blocks in a 120-116 victory over the Wizards on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Capela converted all of his shot attempts for the first time this season and recorded his sixth double-double in his last seven games. The center now has 47 double-doubles on the season, which is tied for third-most in the NBA with Jonas Valanciunas. Capela has averaged 13.9 points, 12.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocks across his last seven contests.
May 10, 2021
Pulls down 22 boards
Capela had 10 points (5-10 FG, 0-2 FT), 22 rebounds and four blocks in Monday's win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Capela bounced back from a poor showing against the Pacers on Thursday (10 points, nine rebounds, 0 blocks) with a huge night on the glass. The big man has been among the league's best rebounders all season, and this was his sixth game with at least 20 boards. Capela also blocked at least four shots for the ninth time in 61 games.
May 7, 2021
Narrowly misses double-double
Capela scored 10 points (5-10 FG) and grabbed nine rebounds over 31 minutes in a loss to Indiana on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Capela entered the contest having registered four straight double-doubles, but he fell one board short against the Pacers. He also failed to record a blocked shot for the first time in four games. This certainly doesn't qualify as one of Capela's most outstanding performances, but the fact that he just missed out on a double-double in spite of a down game says volumes about a season in which he has averaged 15.3 points and career-best marks of 14.3 rebounds and 2.1 swats across 60 games.
May 6, 2021
Double-doubles in limited minutes
Capela closed with 18 points (8-11 FG, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes during Wednesday's 135-103 victory over Phoenix.
ANALYSIS
Capela saw just 24 minutes of action as the Hawks sealed the victory with a dominant first-half display. Despite this, Capela still managed to throw out a more than adequate fantasy line, something he has been doing all season long. The Hawks are pushing hard to assure themselves a playoff spot and so as long as Capela is on the court, he should continue putting up elite fantasy production on both ends of the floor.
May 4, 2021
Records another double-double
Capela scored 11 points (4-5 FG, 3-4 FT) with 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in a 123-114 victory over the Trail Blazers on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Capela picked up his third consecutive double-double and also picked up a handful of defensive stats. It was the center's 44th double-double of the season, which is the third-most in the NBA (trails only Nikola Jokic and Russell Westbrook). Capela has averaged 12.8 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks across his last four games.
Apr 30, 2021
Grabs 15 boards in 17 minutes
Capela (heel) totaled 11 points (5-11 FG, 1-3 FT), 15 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 17 minutes of Friday's 126-104 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Even in a limited capacity, Capela still managed to grab 15 rebounds for the 27th time this season. The NBA's leading rebounder crashes the boards on both ends of the court as he is averaging 5.7 offensive rebounds over his last 10 games. After starting the month with six 20-point performances in his first 11 April outings, Capela has failed to top 12 points in his last four contests.
Apr 30, 2021
Officially available Friday
Capela (heel) is available for Friday's contest against the 76ers, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela will play through right heel soreness, though it's possible he won't see a full complement of minutes. This month, he's averaged 17.6 points, 15.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 33.4 minutes.
Apr 30, 2021
Expected to play
Capela (heel) is expected to play Friday against the 76ers, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite some right heel soreness, Capela will likely play. This month, he's averaged 17.6 points, 15.8 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 33.4 minutes. It's possible his minutes could be slightly limited Friday due to the injury.
Apr 29, 2021
Uncertain for Friday
Capela (heel) is questionable for Friday's game against Philadelphia, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is dealing with pain in his heel, which has his status uncertain for Friday. If he's unavailable, Onyeka Okongwu and Nathan Knight could see increased workloads.
Apr 28, 2021
Dreadful performance in loss
Capela totaled nine points (4-13 FG, 1-4 FT), eight rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes of Wednesday's 127-83 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
With the game out of range, Capela sat the final 3:45 of the third quarter and the entire fourth which had an impact on his total line. Even so, his time on the floor was not productive as he had as many missed shots as he did points (9). Capela's eight boards snap a streak of games with double-digit rebounds at 14.
Apr 26, 2021
Grabs 15 boards in loss
Capela totaled 12 points (6-16 FG), 15 rebounds, two assists and a block in 28 minutes of Monday's 100-86 loss to the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Capela has nine games this month with at least 15 boards, showing why he is leading the league in rebounds. Capela doesn't just crash the defensive boards as he is grabbing 5.6 offensive rebounds in his last eight contests. On top of his consistent rebounding, Capela's 18.2 points are the most he's averaged in a month this season and his 2.2 blocks per contest show that he is valuable on both sides of the ball.
Apr 26, 2021
Not on injury report
Capela (back) is not listed on the injury report for Monday's game against the Pistons, Brad Rowland of Locked On Hawks reports.
ANALYSIS
A back issue put Capela's status in jeopardy for Sunday's game against Milwaukee, but he ultimately took the floor and finished with six points and 14 boards in 34 minutes of action. On the second night of a back-to-back, it's an encouraging sign that Capela is not on the injury report.
Apr 26, 2021
Struggles from field in win
Capela mustered six points (2-6 FG, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds, an assist and a steal across 34 minutes in Sunday's win over the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Capela had an uncharacteristically rough night from the field and only made 33 percent of his shots -- it was one of his worst shooting efforts of the campaign. He remained steady as a force on the glass, however, and the big man has now grabbed 10 or more boards in 13 straight games, averaging 16.5 per contest in that span.
Apr 25, 2021
Cleared to play Sunday
Updating a previous report, Capela (back) will be available for Sunday's game against Milwaukee, KL Chouinard of Hawks.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks initially listed Capela as questionable, then noted that he'd be a game-time call, but his back is apparently doing better, as he's been cleared to take the floor more than an hour before tip-off. The big man was held out of Friday's win over the Heat, but prior to that he'd averaged 19.8 points and 19.5 rebounds over the last five games. Capela has double-digit rebounds in all but two games since the All-Star break.
Apr 25, 2021
Will be game-time call
Capela (back) will be a game-time call for Sunday's matchup against the Bucks, Sarah Spencer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
A sore back kept Capela out of Friday's win over Miami, and the team will wait until closer to game time to make a final call on his status for Sunday night. Rookie Onyeka Okongwu got the start at center in Capela's place on Friday.
Apr 24, 2021
Questionable Sunday
Capela (back) is questionable for Sunday's contest against the Bucks, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela sat out Friday's game against the Heat, and Onyeka Okongwu drew the start. If Capela is out again, the same would likely occur.
Apr 23, 2021
Out Friday
Capela (back) is out Friday against the Heat, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss his first game since April 7. This is a big absence for the Hawks, as Capela has averaged 20.1 points, 18.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks across the past nine games. In his absence, Onyeka Okongwu and Nathan Knight should see more minutes.
Apr 22, 2021
Questionable vs. Heat
Capela (back) is questionable for Friday's game against the Heat, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been playing excellently lately. Over the past six games, he's averaged 19.8 points, 19.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 35.2 minutes. If he sits out Friday, more minutes would be available for Onyeka Okongwu and Nathan Knight.
Apr 21, 2021
Posts 25-22 through back issue
Capela is dealing with back soreness after Wednesday's overtime loss to the Knicks, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He delivered 25 points (12-17 FG, 1-5 FT), 22 rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block in 41 minutes.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old suffered the injury during the second half when he took a hard fall on his back, but he remained in the contest after it initially appeared he wouldn't be able to continue. Coach Nate McMillan said he expects Capela to be battling some pain Thursday, so the big man should be considered questionable for Friday's matchup with the Heat.
Apr 20, 2021
11th straight double-double
Capela tallied 14 points (7-12 FG), 19 rebounds and two blocks during Tuesday's 112-96 win over Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been a rebounding machine for the Hawks this season. Coming off a 25-point, 24-rebound outing Sunday against the Pacers, Capela posted yet another fantastic performance with his 11th straight double-double. Capela currently leads the NBA with 14.5 rebounds per game.
Apr 18, 2021
Posts monster 25/24 double-double
Capela registered 25 points (10-17 FG, 5-9 FT), 24 rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 35 minutes during Sunday's win over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Believe it or not, Sunday's impressive rebounding performance wasn't a career-high for the 26-year-old, but hauling in 24 boards isn't too shabby. Capela has been dominant lately, averaging 20.4 points, 17.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in the last five games. The fifth-seeded Hawks have now won four of their last five games thanks in large part due to the seventh-year center's outstanding play. He'll look to keep it going Tuesday at home against the Magic.
Apr 16, 2021
Goes for 16 points, 16 boards
Capela finished Thursday's loss to Milwaukee with 16 points (7-10 FG, 2-4 FT), 16 rebounds and two blocked shots over 37 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Capela put up another strong effort in the loss, registering his ninth straight double-double and 12th in his past 13th games. The talented center ranks sixth in the NBA in that category this season with 37 total double-doubles. Through the first half of April, he is posting per-game averages of 19.4 points, 14.9 boards and 2.6 swats over eight contests.
Apr 11, 2021
Continues double-double run
Capela produced 20 points (8-12 FG, 4-6 FT), 15 rebounds and three assists across 35 minutes in Sunday's 105-101 win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Capela continued to work as the cornerstone of Atlanta's offensive attack with a slew of starters out with injuries. Although Trae Young typically provides the flashy plays, Capela is unquestionably the engine that keeps the improved offense on track. His work on the defensive end has also shown vast improvement since leaving the Rockets, and though it doesn't show up on the stat lines clearly, his ability to shut down opposing big men is well-documented this season.
Apr 9, 2021
Sixth straight double-double
Capella (Achilles) tallied 22 points (10-12 FG, 2-3 FT), 10 rebounds, two blocks and an assist in 37 minutes of Friday's victory over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out Wednesday's game with a sore left Achilles, Capela returned Friday and did not miss a beat. Over his last six games, Capela is averaging 19.3 points, 13.8 boards and 3.2 blocks per game while shooting 67.1 percent from the floor. For the season, Capela has grabbed double-digit rebounds 41 of 46 contests while averaging a career best in rebounds and blocks.
Apr 9, 2021
Good to go Friday
Capela (Achilles) will play in Friday's game against the Bulls, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela sat out for Wednesday's loss to the Grizzlies due to a sore left Achilles, but he'll play and presumably re-enter the starting lineup Friday. Capela is averaging 15.0 points, 14.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocks over 29.7 minutes per game this season. Onyeka Okongwu will likely shift back to his usual bench role.
Apr 8, 2021
Questionable vs. Bulls
Capela (Achilles) is questionable for Friday's game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Capela sat out the second half of a back-to-back set Wednesday as he dealt with left Achilles soreness. He's still in some pain, so he's being listed as questionable for Friday. If he sits out again, Onyeka Okongwu should be expected to get another start.
Apr 7, 2021
Won't play Wednesday
Capela (Achilles) will be held out of Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies, KL Chouinard of Hawks.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks will take a cautious approach with Capela on the second night of a back-to-back after the big man reported some soreness in his left Achilles. He still managed a double-double in Tuesday's win over the Pelicans, finishing with 12 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in 28 minutes. It's unclear who will start in Capela's place with John Collins (ankle) also out.
Apr 7, 2021
Questionable Wednesday
Capela is questionable for Wednesday's contest against the Grizzlies due to left Achilles soreness, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is at risk for missing his first game since March 16, as he's dealing with some Achilles soreness on the second game of a back-to-back. If he's ultimately ruled out, Onyeka Okongwu, Nathan Knight and Bruno Fernando are all candidates to see extra run.
Apr 7, 2021
Records another double-double
Capela posted 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds, three blocks and an assist across 28 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Capela didn't miss time despite dealing with right hand soreness, and that ailment didn't slow him down Tuesday -- he recorded his fifth straight double-double while also recording multiple blocks for the fourth game in a row. The big man is one of the league's best two-way threats and should remain a nightly double-double threat every time he steps on the court.
Apr 6, 2021
Officially available Tuesday
Capela (hand) will play Tuesday against New Orleans, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela won't have to miss any time despite right hand soreness that had him listed as probable for Tuesday's game. Over the last five games, he's averaged 18.4 points, 13.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per contest.
Apr 5, 2021
Likely to play Tuesday
Capela is probable for Tuesday's game against the Pelicans with right hand soreness, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old apparently picked up the injury during Sunday's loss to the Warriors, but he's expected to be good to go for Tuesday's contest. Onyeka Okongwu should see additional run at center if Capela suffers a setback and is unable to play versus New Orleans.
Apr 5, 2021
Posts monster double-double
Capela delivered 24 points (10-16 FG, 4-6 FT), 18 rebounds, two blocks and a steal across 32 minutes in Sunday's loss against the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Capela posted his seventh double-double over his last eight contests, and he has been a dominant presence on the glass this season -- he has recorded double-digit boards in all but five appearances during the current campaign. Capela has also embraced a bigger role on offense and it's safe to classify him as a nightly double-double threat that also makes a big impact on defense. He has recorded multiple blocks in three straight games as well.
Apr 3, 2021
Blocks six in win
Capela registered 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-6 FT), 10 rebounds, six blocks and two steals in 28 minutes during Friday's win over the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old now has 11 total blocks over his past two games. Capela has been on a roll over his seven games, averaging 17.6 points, 13.9 rebounds and 2.4 blocks while shooting 65.2 percent from the field. The seventh-year big man should continue providing elite rebounds, blocks and field-goal percentage while hovering around 30 minutes per game for the fifth-seed Hawks.
Apr 2, 2021
Props up backcourt in 2-OT win
Capela provided 28 points (9-15 FG, 10-10 FT), 17 rebounds and five blocked shots across 44 minutes in Thursday's 134-129 win over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Capela has registered as many as 26 rebounds in one game this season, but his 17 rebounds in Thursday's double-overtime win was still impressive. The standout center was crucial in the victory as he pushed the play inside without frontcourt teammate John Collins. He's now recorded five double-doubles over his past six games.
Mar 31, 2021
Registers another double-double
Capela finished Tuesday's loss to Phoenix with 16 points (8-12 FG), 16 rebounds and a blocked shot across 35 minutes.
ANALYSIS
The seventh-year center had a three-game double-double streak snapped against Denver on Sunday, but Capela was back to his usual big stat line Tuesday. The 26-year-old ranks ninth in the NBA this season with 29 double-doubles and is averaging a career-best 14.1 rebounds per contest. He is also posting per-game averages of 14.6 points and 2.2 blocked shots.
Mar 27, 2021
Defensive dominance returns
Capela scored 18 points (8-10 FG, 2-4 FT) to go along with 15 rebounds, three blocks and two steals across 30 minutes in Friday's win over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Capela had recorded multiple blocks in a game only once in four chances since returning from a heel injury entering Friday's contest. However, he showcased his defensive prowess in the victory, notching multiple blocks and steals for the first time in a single game since Feb. 19. He also added plenty offensively and has scored in double-digits in three consecutive games.
Mar 25, 2021
Double-double in loss
Capela scored 25 points (10-12 FG, 5-8 FT) to go along with 17 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in a 110-108 loss to the Kings on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Capela secured his second consecutive double-double, giving him 27 on the season in only 38 games played. The center has been a force on both sides of the floor, as he has also recorded a block in 19 consecutive contests. When healthy, Capela is one of the league's best contributors of rebounds and blocks for fantasy managers. He has averaged 15.0 points, 15.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocks over his last three games.
Mar 23, 2021
Records 12/14 double-double
Capela produced 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds and a blocked shot across 29 minutes in Monday's 119-110 loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Although he is sometimes overlooked, Capela is putting together a stellar season for the Hawks. The center currently leads the league in offensive rebounds and total rebound percentage and also ranks 10th in the league with a field-goal percentage of 57.7 percent.
Mar 20, 2021
Grabs 16 boards
Capela finished with eight points (4-16 FG), 16 boards, two assists, one block, and one steal in 23 minutes of a 99-95 win against the Lakers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Capela returned to his rebounding form, once again racking up a double-digit total on the glass in his team's win. Capela fell below the 10 re bound threshold last game as he made his return form a heel injury that had held him out. While he only played 23 minutes in the contest, he is back to his pre-injury form, and had a chance to really light up the scoreboard but he struggled to get his shots to fall. The Hawks next play the Clippers on Monday.
Mar 18, 2021
Playing vs. OKC
Capela (heel) will play Thursday against the Thunder, Mike Conti of the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela missed two straight games due to left heel soreness, but he'll be back in action Thursday. Since the start of February, the center has averaged 15.8 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 29.3 minutes.
Mar 17, 2021
Questionable vs. Thunder
Capela (heel) is questionable for Thursday's game against Oklahoma City, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has sat out the past two games with pain in his left heel and could retake the court Thursday. Onyeka Okongwu (hip) is also questionable, which could leave the Hawks without their two top centers. Nathan Knight should see increased run if Capela and Okongwu remain sidelined.
Mar 16, 2021
Ruled out Tuesday
Capela (heel) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Rockets, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was considered a game-time decision Tuesday due to a left heel issue, but he'll be unable to play after testing out his injury. Nathan Knight had a big game off the bench in his absence Sunday and could see increased run once again Tuesday.
Mar 15, 2021
Deemed questionable for Tuesday
Capela (foot) is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against the Rockets, KL Chouinard of Hawks.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela's left heel has been giving him trouble of late, as it kept him out of the final game before the All-Star break, as well as Sunday night's win over the Cavaliers. For now, it doesn't look to be a long-term issue, but it's worth noting that the big man missed a large chunk of time a season ago due to a left heel injury. If Capela sits out Tuesday, keep an eye on Nathan Knight, who had a big night off the bench Sunday.
Mar 14, 2021
Ruled out Sunday
Capela (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Cleveland, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was dealing with left heel pain heading into Sunday's contest, and he'll be unable to suit up as a result. With Onyeka Okongwu (hip) also unavailable, John Collins and Bruno Fernando should see plenty of usage in Atlanta's frontcourt.
Mar 14, 2021
Questionable Sunday
Capella is considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Cavaliers due to left heel pain, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela presumably picked up this injury in Saturday's victory over the Kings. His status will presumably depend on how his foot is feeling closer to tip-off. Onyeka Okongwu (adductor) is also listed as questionable, but would be the prime beneficiary of a Capela absence if that ends up being the situation.
Mar 12, 2021
Pulls down 19 rebounds
Capela notched nine points (4-7 FG, 1-3 FT), 19 rebounds, five blocks and a steal across 28 minutes in Thursday's win over the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Capela couldn't reach the 10-point plateau, but he made up for those offensive shortcomings with a strong effort on the glass and on defense. He has registered three or more blocks in four of his last five games while routinely grabbing double-digit boards, so he's always going to produce even if he has an off night offensively from time to time.
Mar 10, 2021
Not on injury report
Capela is not on the Hawks' injury report ahead of Thursday's matchup against the Raptors, KL Chouinard of Hawks.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The big man was held out of last Wednesday's first-half finale due to a foot injury, but it looks like the team was simply being cautious heading into the break. Expect Capela to return to his usual starting center spot Thursday night. Over his last 10 games, Capela averaged 17.7 points, 14.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 31.5 minutes.
Mar 3, 2021
Ruled out Wednesday
Capela (foot) will not play in Wednesday's game against the Magic, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against Orlando and will miss his first game since Jan. 24. Onyeka Okongwu and John Collins are likely to see increased minutes in Capela's absence.
Mar 3, 2021
Likely unavailable Wednesday
Coach Nate McMillan doesn't expect Capela (foot) to play Wednesday at Orlando, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was originally considered questionable for Wednesday's contest after suffering the foot injury Tuesday, but it appears he'll miss his first contest since Jan. 24. Assuming he's unavailable versus the Magic, Capela will have a full week to recover before the Hawks first game after the All-Star break March 11.
Mar 3, 2021
Questionable with foot pain
Capela is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Magic due to right foot pain, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela hasn't missed a game since Jan. 24, but he could end up sitting out for the Hawks' final tilt before the All-Star break. If he's sidelined, more minutes could be in store for Onyeka Okongwu, Bruno Fernando and Solomon Hill.
Mar 2, 2021
Grabs 17 boards
Capela scored 10 points (5-10 FG) to go along with 17 rebounds and one block across 30 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Capela posted his third consecutive double-double, though his scoring took a considerable downturn. However, he continued to steadily contribute as expected in other areas by hauling in 17 rebounds -- seven of which came on the offensive end of the floor. Capela also recorded at least one block for the 13th consecutive game and is averaging 2.2 swats per game in that span.
Mar 1, 2021
Puts up monster double-double
Capela notched 20 points (9-17 FG, 2-3 FT), 14 rebounds, three blocks, an assist and a steal across 36 minutes in Sunday's loss against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Capela has double-doubled in back-to-back games and seems to have left that modest performance against the Celtics (nine points and nine rebounds across 21 minutes) in the rearview. The versatile big man now has nine double-doubles over his last 10 contests.
Feb 26, 2021
Racks up boards and blocks
Capela scored 17 points (8-11 FG, 1-4 FT) to go along with 21 rebounds, one steal and four blocks across 31 minutes in Friday's loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Capela dominated the Thunder on the glass to top 20 rebounds for the second time this season. He also continued to swat shots at a prolific rate and now has three or more blocks in three of his last five contests. The only blemish on Capela's stat line was his struggles from the free-throw line, though he did manage to score efficiently from the field.
Feb 24, 2021
Modest production in win
Capela played in 21 minutes and scored nine points (3-6 FG, 3-4 FT) while adding nine rebounds, three blocks and one assist during Wednesday's win over the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Capela's contributions were not really needed with the Hawks up by 23 at half. He did see his double-double streak come to an end at seven games but he did extend his consecutive games with a block to 10. Across the whole season, Capela has grabbed less than 10 rebounds just three times while failing to block a shot in just four of his 29 games.
Feb 23, 2021
Grabs 16 boards in loss
Capela finished with 12 points (6-13 FG, 0-2 FT), 16 boards, one assist, one block, and one steal in 37 minutes of a 112-111 loss to Cleveland on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Capela turned in his seventh straight double-double, but his point total was the lowest over his recent double-double streak, finishing with his worst shooting night since February 4. The rebounding machine will have a quick turnaround before facing the Celtics on Wednesday.
Feb 21, 2021
Efficient double-double in win
Capela had 22 points (8-9 FG, 6-8 FT) and 10 rebounds in Sunday's win over the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Capela notched his sixth straight double-double on one of his most efficient scoring nights of the season. The big man is shooting 59.0 percent from the field on the year (down from 62.9% percent in 2019-20), but that number jumps north of 72 percent over his last seven games.
Feb 19, 2021
Stuffs stat sheet
Capela went for 24 points (11-14 FG, 2-2 FT), 15 rebounds, four blocks, two steals and one assist in 31 minutes of Friday's loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Capela continues to be a beast on the glass on both ends of the court, grabbing multiple offensive rebounds now in 17 straight games. His nine offensive boards were the most he's had since Jan. 20 when he grabbed 12. Over his last five contests, Capela is averaging 20.2 points, 13.4 rebounds (5.0 on the offensive glass) and 2.0 blocks while recording a double-double in each outing.

Big double-double against Celtics
Capela scored 24 points (10-13 FG, 4-8 FT) while adding 13 rebounds and a block in 33 minutes during Wednesday's 122-114 win over the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old big reeled off his fourth straight double-double and 18th in 25 games this season with another impressive effort on the glass. Capela is on pace for career-high averages in rebounding and blocks, and it's possible his scoring numbers will continue to surge as well as his chemistry with Trae Young grows.
Feb 15, 2021
Pulls down 18 rebounds
Capela notched 15 points (7-11 FG, 1-2 FT), 18 rebounds, two blocks, a steal and an assist across 36 minutes in Monday's loss at the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Capela has grabbed double-digit rebounds in all but two games this season, and while he's also made strides as a scorer of late with three 15-point games over his last five appearances, most of his value comes on defense and on the glass. Capela has grabbed at least 13 rebounds in seven of his last 11 contests.
Feb 14, 2021
Double-doubles in 28 minutes
Capela recorded 24 points (12-17 FG), 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal across 28 minutes in Saturday's 125-113 loss to the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Capela now owns five 20-point double-doubles this season. Among those five, Saturday's double-double was recorded in the least amount of time (28 minutes) and done with a season high of 12 field-goals made. Capela may not be a prolific scorer, but his sporadic scoring bursts still make him one of the most valuable players in fantasy leagues.
Feb 13, 2021
Posts another double-double
Capela posted 14 points (7-11 FG), 11 rebounds, two blocks and a steal across 21 minutes in Friday's loss against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Capela logged 21 minutes for the second straight game -- his lowest amount since he played 20 minutes in his first two appearances of the campaign -- but made the most of them, as he delivered another double-double while registering multiple blocks for the 11th time over his last 13 games. During that 13-game stretch, Capela has recorded nine double-doubles and a triple-double as well.
Feb 7, 2021
Strong performance at both ends
Capela generated 23 points (10-13 FG, 3-5 FT), 16 rebounds and four blocks across 29 minutes in Saturday's win over the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Capela ended as the Hawks' second-best scorer while also pacing the team in both rebounds and blocks, so it's fair to say this was one of his most impactful performances of the campaign. Capela has grabbed double-digit rebounds in all but one game this season, but he has been lacking a bit in the scoring department -- he has scored more than 15 points just twice over his last eight contests. Fortunately for him, he does enough across the board so his scoring numbers aren't his first source of upside.
Feb 5, 2021
17 boards in poor shooting night
Capela recorded six points (3-14 FG), 17 rebounds and one assist Thursday in a 112-91 home loss to the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Capela's performance against Utah was quite mixed. On the one hand, he grabbed more rebounds than DPOY Rudy Gobert (12) despite Atlanta's overall issues with scoring. However, Capela was also limited by Gobert and missed a season-high 11 shots en route to another loss. He will hope for a better performance when the Hawks host the Raptors on Saturday.
Feb 4, 2021
Another double-double in loss
Capela had 10 points (5-8 FG, 0-2 FT), 13 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals in 30 minutes during Wednesday's 112-116 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Capela tallied nine rebounds in his season debut Dec. 28, but he's recorded double-digit boards in each of his last 17 games. The second half of the back-to-back set Thursday against the Jazz brings a tough matchup against Rudy Gobert.
Feb 1, 2021
Continues to dominate glass
Capela scored 16 points (8-11 FG) to go along with 13 rebounds, one assist, one steal and three blocks across 30 minutes in Monday's loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Capela continued to rack up rebounds and is averaging 16.4 boards across his last eight games. While he hasn't matched the scoring clip of Trae Young or John Collins, Capela has reached double-digit points in seven of his last eight contests and shot nearly 55 percent from the field in the process. Through 17 games this season, Capela is pacing towards putting up career-best marks in rebounds and blocks while also matching his usual scoring output.
Jan 29, 2021
Huge double-double in win
Capela (hand) went for 13 points (6-14 FG, 1-1 FT), 14 rebounds, three assists and three blocks over 30 minutes in Friday's 116-100 win over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Since opening the season with nine rebounds, Capela has now grabbed at least 11 boards in 15 consecutive games. While his scoring has dipped in each year since the 2018-19 campaign, his rebounding (14.5) and blocks (2.3) are at career bests.
Jan 29, 2021
Good to go
Capela (hand) will play Friday against the Wizards, Mike Conti of the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, right hand soreness won't keep Capela out. Across his past five appearances, the center is averaging 17.0 points, 17.8 rebounds, 4.4 blocks, 1.2 steals and 1.0 assists in 34.6 minutes.
Jan 28, 2021
Probable for Friday
Capela is probable for Friday's game against the Wizards, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela has been playing through a hand injury over the past two games, and he should do so again Friday. Across his past five appearances, the center is averaging 17.0 points, 17.8 rebounds, 4.4 blocks, 1.2 steals and 1.0 assists in 34.6 minutes.
Jan 27, 2021
Good to go Wednesday
Capela (hand) is available Wednesday against the Nets, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was considered questionable for Wednesday's contest with a sore right hand, but he's been cleared to play and should take his usual place in Atlanta's starting five. Capela is averaging 18.4 points, 16.4 rebounds, 3.6 blocks and 1.1 steals in 33.3 minutes over his past seven games.
Jan 27, 2021
Questionable Wednesday
The Hawks list Capela (hand) as questionable for Wednesday's game versus Brooklyn, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out Sunday's loss to the Bucks with a sore right hand, Capela didn't miss a beat in his return to the lineup Tuesday. He started and played 35 minutes in the Hawks' 108-99 win over the Clippers, accruing 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-2 FT), 18 rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist. Assuming he escaped that game without any setbacks, Capela should be cleared to suit up for the second half of the back-to-back set ahead of Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. ET tipoff.
Jan 26, 2021
Good to go Tuesday
Capela (hand) has been cleared to play Tuesday against the Clippers, Law Murray of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was held out of Sunday's loss to Milwaukee, but he'll return to action Tuesday and should reclaim his starting center spot. The big man has been on fire of late, averaging 22.0 points, 18.0 rebounds, 5.5 blocks and 1.3 steals over his last four contests. In his last appearance Friday against Minnesota, Capela posted 13 points, 19 boards and 10 blocked shots in 30 minutes.
Jan 25, 2021
Questionable vs. Clippers
Capela (hand) is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Capela was held out of Sunday's loss to Milwaukee due to a sore right hand, and the Hawks will wait to see how he feels Tuesday before updating his status. Capela has been on a tear of late, averaging 22.0 points, 18.8 rebounds and 5.5 blocks over his last four contests. He punctuated that run with 13 points, 19 boards and 10 blocks in Friday's win over the Timberwolves.
Jan 24, 2021
Ruled out Sunday
Capela (hand) was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bucks, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela had a monster performance Friday against Minnesota, but he's dealing with right hand soreness that will force him to miss Sunday's contest. Onyeka Okongwu could see increased run for Atlanta in his absence.
Jan 24, 2021
Questionable for Sunday
Capela (hand) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucks, Brad Rowland of PeachtreeHoops.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is dealing with right hand soreness coming off a monster performance in Friday's win over the Timberwolves in which he had a triple-double featuring 10 blocks. If he is forced to miss Sunday's contest, rookie Onyeka Okongwu could slide into a larger role.
Jan 23, 2021
Puts on a shot-blocking display Friday
Capela finished with 13 points (5-11 FG, 3-6 FT), 19 rebounds, 10 blocks and one steal in 30 minutes during Friday's 116-98 victory over the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Capela was simply on another level during Friday's blowout victory, recording the first triple-double of his career. The 10 blocked shots were easily a career-best and he is playing the best basketball of his career right now. His current production does seem as though it will regress at some point but he looks healthy and rather than trying to sell high, perhaps you simply sit back and enjoy the ride?
Jan 21, 2021
Dominant performance vs. Pistons
Capela recorded 27 points (10-18 FG, 7-12 FT), 26 rebounds, five blocks, two assists and one steal in 39 minutes during Wednesday's 123-115 win over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Wednesday's performance was the best of Capela's career, and he helped create a 63-42 rebounding advantage over the Pistons. With his statline, Capela became just the eighth player in NBA history to post a 27-point, 26-rebound, five-block game -- the two most recent being Shaquille O'Neal in 2004 and Dikembe Mutombo in 1999. Capela has double-doubled in five straight games and is averaging 20.6 points, 15.6 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, 1.0 steals and 1.0 assists over this span.
Jan 18, 2021
Records seventh double-double
Capela provided 23 points (10-16 FG, 3-3 FT), 15 rebounds, three blocked shots, two assists and two steals across 39 minutes in Monday's 108-97 win over the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Capela played his highest minute total of the season in the win with only nine active players on the roster. The Timberwolves were still without Karl-Anthony Towns, allowing Capela and John Collins to assert themselves inside. The Hawks have rotated through several different big men over the past couple of years, and the steady Capela provides an added dimension on both sides of the ball.
Jan 17, 2021
Contributes season-high point total
Capela totaled 25 points (11-16 FG, 3-5 FT), 15 rebounds and four blocks in Saturday's loss to Portland.
ANALYSIS
Capela dominated down low despite the loss, tallying 19 first-half points en route to season highs of 16 field-goal attempts and 25 points. He was also a force on the other end of the court, grabbing 11 defensive rebounds and swatting four shots. The veteran has now pulled down double-digit rebounds in nine straight contests and ranks third in the NBA with 12.9 boards per game this season.
Jan 15, 2021
Delivers double-double
Capela posted 16 points (8-9 FG) and 11 rebounds across 27 minutes in Friday's loss against the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
This was Capela's fifth double-double over his last seven appearances, and he has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in eight straight games. The big man has been doing everything that's asked out of him and has been making an impact on both ends of the court. He is not expected to be the Hawks' go-to guy on offense any time soon, but he still provides value due to his high shooting percentage and his impressive rebounding ability.
Jan 14, 2021
Not on injury report
Capela (hand) is not listed on the injury report for Friday's game against the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Capela was considered questionable for Wednesday's game that got postponed but he is no longer listed on the injury report, signaling that he should be ready to go for Friday. The 26-year-old double-doubled in his last outing against the 76ers.
Jan 13, 2021
Wednesday's game postponed
Wednesday's matchup between the Suns and the Hawks has been postponed.
ANALYSIS
As has been the case multiple times this season, at least one of the two teams does not have the required eight available players for the game to be played. The Hawks' next game is scheduled for Friday against the Jazz in Utah.
Jan 12, 2021
Questionable Wednesday
Capela is questionable for Wednesday's game at Phoenix due to right hand soreness, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old apparently picked up the injury during Monday's win over the Sixers, when he had 12 points (4-12 FG, 4-6 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 26 minutes Onyeka Okongwu (toe) is probable and should see run at center if Capela is unavailable Wednesday.
Jan 11, 2021
Hauls down 11 rebounds
Capela scored 12 points (4-12 FG, 4-6 FT) and added 11 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 26 minutes during the Hawks 112-94 win over the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Capela's scoring is down during his first year with the Hawks but his rebounds are right on par with what he did last season with the Rockets. His first game with the Hawks did not produce double-digit rebounds but since then, Capela has grabbed 10 or more boards in seven straight outings.
Jan 10, 2021
Racks up 13 boards
Capela had seven points (2-6 FG, 3-4 FT), 13 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 27 minutes during Saturday's 113-105 loss to the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old has now failed to reach double-digit points in four of seven games this season, but he's posted double-digit rebounds in every game but his season debut when he had nine boards. Capela is averaging 9.7 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 blocks in 26.4 minutes this season.
Jan 2, 2021
Double-doubles with 16 boards
Capela produced 16 points (8-12 FG, 0-5 FT), three steals and two blocked shots across 31 minutes in Saturday's 96=91 loss to the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Capela has an excellent game despite the loss, and it's evident that the Hawks have finally found a reliable center after rotating through a motley crew of big men over the past few seasons. He's posting double-double numbers, which is impressive considering he went 11 months without playing competitive ball. If he stays healthy, he should regain his place as one of the most reliable big men in the league.
Jan 2, 2021
Posts first double-double
Capela had 12 points (6-10 FG, 0-2 FT), 11 rebounds and six assists in Friday's win over the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Capela grabbed double-digit rebounds for the second straight game, but the bigger news for fantasy managers is that he played 30 minutes after being limited in his first two appearances. The big man's six assists established a new career-best. He had just one game with more than three assists last season (39 appearances).
Dec 30, 2020
Cleared to play
Capela (Achilles) is available for Wednesday's contest against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela will be available for his second appearance of the season. He made his Hawks debut Monday and was limited, playing 20 minutes and posting seven points, nine rebounds, two blocks and one assist. It's possible he still isn't ready to see 30 minutes.
Dec 29, 2020
Probable for Wednesday
Capela (Achilles) is probable for Wednesday's game against the Nets, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old made his season debut Monday and had seven points (3-5 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 20 minutes, but he's still managing the a sore left Achilles. Capela is expected to play Wednesday and should continue ramping up his workload.
Dec 29, 2020
Logs relatively short debut
Capela (Achilles) recorded seven points (3-5 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, two blocks and one steal during a 128-120 win versus Detroit on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Capela played just 20 minutes of basketball during his first game with Atlanta. He was traded from Houston in February yet did not play for over 10 months due to the coronavirus outbreak and multiple injuries. But now that Capela is healthy, he will look at averaging starter-level minutes again.
Dec 28, 2020
Playing with minutes restriction
Capela (Achilles) said he'll have a minutes restriction "in the 20s" for Monday's game against the Pistons, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old missed the first two games of the season due to the left Achilles soreness, but he'll make his debut with the Hawks on Monday. Capela averaged 13.9 points, 13.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.2 assists in 32.8 minutes for Houston last season, though he'll have a smaller workload in his first game for Atlanta.
Dec 27, 2020
Likely to play Monday
Capela (Achilles) is probable for Monday's game against the Pistons, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela didn't have a timetable for his return as of Saturday, but he's apparently made progress in his recovery and will likely be available against Detroit. The center should be a key contributor for Atlanta once he returns after averaging 13.9 points and 13.8 rebounds over 32.8 minutes per game last year.
Dec 26, 2020
No timetable for return
Capela (Achilles), who is out Saturday against the Grizzlies, does not have a timetable for a return, Mike Conti of the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
This is bad news for the Hawks, as Capela is one of the team's best players. While he's sidelined, John Collins should start at center, which could provide more opportunities for Danilo Galinari (foot), De'Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish at forward.
Dec 26, 2020
Ruled out Saturday
Capela (Achilles) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Capela was unlikely to play Saturday as he continues to deal with left Achilles soreness, and he officially won't take the court against the Grizzlies. John Collins and Bruno Fernando should see increased playing time Saturday, while Capela's next chance to play will be Monday against the Pistons.
Dec 25, 2020
Doubtful against Grizzlies
Capela (Achilles) is doubtful for Saturday's game against the Grizzlies, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela missed the Hawks' season opener Wednesday due to left Achilles soreness, and he could be on track to miss a second straight game. If he's unable to take the court, John Collins and Bruno Fernando could see increased playing time once again.
Dec 23, 2020
Out as expected
Capela (Achilles) is out for Wednesday's season opener against the Bulls, Mike Conti of the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela will not play during the season opener, and with rookie Onyeka Okongwu (toe) also out, the Hawks will have a thin center rotation. John Collins, Danilo Gallinari and Bruno Fernando could see increased run as a result.
Dec 22, 2020
Unlikely to play Wednesday
Capela is doubtful to play Wednesday against the Bulls due to left Achilles soreness, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela nursed the Achilles issue during the preseason but didn't miss a game, though he's now expected to be unavailable for the season opener. Onyeka Okongwu (toe) is out, likely leaving John Collins and Bruno Fernando to handle the bulk of the work at center Wednesday.
Dec 19, 2020
Cleared to play
Capela (Achilles) is starting Saturday against the Grizzlies, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela will be available for the preseason finale. Through three preseason appearances, he's averaging 11.0 points and 11.7 rebounds in 24.2 minutes.
Dec 18, 2020
Probable for Saturday
Capela (Achilles) is probable for Saturday's preseason game against the Grizzlies, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela looks like he'll likely play in his second-consecutive preseason game after he nearly had a double-double in Thursday's game despite dealing with Achilles soreness. The 26-year-old center will likely receive a light dosage of minutes.
Dec 18, 2020
Flirts with double-double in loss
Capela posted 13 points (5-9 FG, 3-3 FT), nine rebounds and two blocked shots across 25 minutes in Thursday's 128-106 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
A heel injury kept Capela off the court after leaving Houston for Atlanta, but now the Hawks have a bonafide big man to take the pressure off of John Collins. His steady presence should help a franchise that is packed with young talent, and create a reliable target in the paint for Trae Young, who is already one of the league leaders in assists.
Dec 17, 2020
Playing Thursday
Capela (Achilles) will play and start Thursday against the Grizzlies, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was previously listed as probable, so his availability isn't surprising. In his two preseason appearances, he's averaged 10.0 points and 13.0 rebounds in 23.8 minutes.
Dec 16, 2020
Should play Thursday
Capela is considered questionable for Thursday's preseason game against the Grizzlies due to left Achilles soreness, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old continues to manage the Achilles issue after playing through the injury during Sunday's exhibition. Capela had 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-8 FT), 12 rebounds and one assist in 27 minutes during that contest, so the injury shouldn't affect his availability too much, barring a setback.
Dec 13, 2020
Good to go
Capela (Achilles) will start Sunday's game against Orlando, KL Chouinard of Hawks.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Capela will be available despite some minor soreness in his left Achilles. In his first game in a Hawks uniform Friday night, Capela posted eight points and 14 rebounds.
Dec 12, 2020
Probable Sunday
Capela is probable for Sunday's preseason game against the Magic due to left Achilles soreness, Brad Rowland of Locked on Hawks reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela posted eight points and 14 boards in his preseason debut with the Hawks, but he's now dealing with some Achilles soreness. That said, he's still expected to play Sunday.
Dec 11, 2020
Grabs 14 boards
Capela registered eight points (4-6 FG, 0-1 FT) and 14 rebounds in Atlanta's 116-112 loss to the Magic on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Capela had been questionable with an ankle injury, but was ultimately able to make his Hawks debut after finishing the back half of the season hurt. Acquired by Atlanta shortly before the 2020 trade deadline, Capela had been averaging a career-high 13.8 rebounds per game in 39 starts with Houston. Reaching that mark in just 20 minutes on Friday, Capela demonstrated that the ceiling remains. Nonetheless, after previously feasting in an environment devoid of other big men, prospective managers may be wary of the more crowded Atlanta frontcourt.
Dec 11, 2020
Playing Friday
Capela (ankle) will play and start during Friday's preseason opener against the Magic, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was previously questionable with right ankle soreness, but he's feeling better and will get the nod in the first real action of the season. John Collins will join him in the frontcourt, with Danilo Gallinari coming off the bench.
Dec 10, 2020
Questionable for preseason opener
Capela is questionable for Friday's preseason opener against the Magic due to right ankle soreness, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela seems to have suffered the injury recently, and it could keep him out of the preseason opener. If that's the case, we'll likely see John Collins, Bruno Fernando and Nathan Knight occupy the majority of center minutes.
Dec 3, 2020
'Ready to go' for season-opener
Capela reiterated Thursday that he's fully healthy after dealing with a heel injury last season, Sarah Spencer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Due to a plantar fascia injury, Capela never appeared in a game for the Hawks after coming over from Houston at the deadline. But the big man was able to participate in a minicamp back in September, so there's no reason to believe he'll be less than 100 percent to begin the 2020-21 season. Capela, who last played in an NBA game on Jan. 29, is penciled in as the Hawks' starting center.
Sep 23, 2020
No limitations at minicamp
Capela has had no restrictions at Hawks minicamp, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela, who never made his Hawks debut this season due to plantar fasciitis, noted that he's working to get stronger in certain leg movements to put less pressure on his heel. By the time next season rolls around, he'll have had plenty of time to fully recover and continue getting stronger and working on his game.
Jun 14, 2020
Feels confident in health of heel
Capela said Friday that his injured right heel feels "way, way better" and indicated that he believes he has fully healed, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela noted that he won't know if he's 100 percent healthy until he goes through 5-on-5 work, which he won't be able to do in the immediate future after the Hawks weren't included among the 22 teams who will play in Orlando when the NBA season resumes in late July. In any event, Capela should head into the offseason at nearly full health or close to it, putting him on track to be ready to go for the Hawks' 2020-21 training camp. Though he never played a minute for Atlanta after being acquired from Houston in February while he was contending with plantar fasciitis, Capela can be penciled in as a starter in the frontcourt alongside John Collins.
Jun 9, 2020
Could take part in 'excluded eight'
Atlanta general manager Travis Schlenk said Tuesday that Capela (heel) could be available to play in a potential summer competition between the Hawks and the other seven teams who won't be included when the NBA resumes its season in Orlando in late July, Mike Conti of the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the eight teams excluded from the 22-team group in Orlando are still eager to set up a mandatory summer training camp or regional fall league that would allow players to take part in some competitive action before the 2020-21 season, which would eliminate a nearly nine-month window between games for those clubs. If the NBA and players' union both come to agreement on a training camp or short-term league for those teams, Capela looks like he'll be ready to participate after having not played in a game since Jan. 29, when he was still a member of the Rockets. He was traded to the Hawks less than a week later and was sidelined with plantar fasciitis and a bone bruise in his right heel until the NBA suspended its season in mid-March, but the center looks to have nearly moved past the issue. At the very least, Capela looks like he'll be fully healthy by the time the Hawks hold a traditional training camp in advance of the 2020-21 campaign.
May 27, 2020
Could play if season resumes
Capela (heel) might play if the season resumes, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. According to general manager Travis Schlenk, "Clint says he's feeling better, and there's a possibility that we can get him back on the court. Practicing and playing five games would be valuable to us."
ANALYSIS
Capela was dealt to the Hawks while nursing both plantar fasciitis and a bone bruise in his heel. As a result, he hasn't yet played for his new team. However, extra time off plus rehab means that Capela has made strides in his rehab. If the Hawks are included in any sort of season resumption, Capela may be able to build chemistry on the court with his new teammates. With Houston this season, he averaged 13.9 points, 13.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, 1.2 assists and 0.8 steals in 32.8 minutes.
Apr 20, 2020
Not yet fully healthy
Capela relayed Sunday that he's "feeling pretty good" as he continues to rehab from plantar fasciitis and a bone bruise in his right heel, though he admitted he's not fully healthy yet, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. "I'm going to keep doing what the medical staff is saying," Capela said. "I'm not 100 percent yet. It's getting better, so I'm optimistic about it."
ANALYSIS
Capela has been dealing with heel discomfort since late December and made his last appearance in a game Jan. 29 -- while he was still a member of the Rockets -- before being dealt to the Hawks less than a week later. While the NBA's ongoing hiatus theoretically gives Capela more time to heal up from the injury, his inability to test out his heel in full-contact, full-court workouts under the supervision of the Hawks' staff means he won't necessarily be cleared to practice right away when teams are allowed to resume training. On a more positive note, Capela indicated that the intensity of the pain in his heel has subsided since the league-wide shutdown. Last month, he said his pain was in the 5-to-7 range on a scale of one to 10; he now says his pain level falls somewhere in the 3-to-5 range.
Mar 31, 2020
Progressing well from injury
Capela (heel) had progressed to participating in half-court workouts before the NBA suspended its season March 11, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela hasn't played since Jan. 29 due to a bout with plantar fasciitis in his right heel, but the center had been making notable strides in his recovery earlier this month. Updates on Capela's progress have been scarce since the league-wide shutdown, but the extra time off should only help his chances of potentially making his Hawks debut with the season unlikely to resume play until at least May. Given that the Hawks are out of playoff contention, Capela will likely be treated cautiously for any games Atlanta has left on its schedule, with coach Lloyd Pierce likely to enforce some sort of minutes restriction for the center. That said, even a 20-minute role might be enough for Capela to return value in standard leagues for fantasy managers looking for help in field-goal percentage, blocks and rebounds.

Out another two weeks
Capela (heel) will be re-evaluated in two weeks, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela hasn't played since Jan. 29 due to a heel injury. While he was recently cleared to begin impact activities in his rehab, he's still multiple weeks away from a possible return. In his continued absence, Dewayne Dedmon (elbow) and John Collins should hold down Atlanta's frontcourt.
Feb 26, 2020
Likely out another week
Capela (heel) is set to be re-evaluated next week, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This should be a step in the right direction for Capela, though Kirschner notes that the Hawks expect the big man to remain out through at least next week. If that's the case, then Capela would miss six more games, at minimum. Given the Hawks' standing in the East, there will be little motivation for Capela to get back on the floor before he's 100 percent healthy.
Feb 19, 2020
Out for 'weeks'
Coach Lloyd Pierce noted it will be "weeks" before Capela (heel) will play, Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Still dealing with plantar fasciitis, Capela will be sidelined for the foreseeable future. The Hawks, who entered the All-Star break with a 15-41 record, have no reason to rush Capela back. More information on a timetable for his return should emerge as he hits various milestones in his recovery.
Feb 19, 2020
Won't play Thursday
Capela (heel) will not make his Hawks debut Thursday against the Heat, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela, who is still dealing with plantar fasciitis, was unable to practice Tuesday and is not expected to Wednesday, either. His next opportunity to take the court for his new team arrives Saturday against the Mavericks.
Feb 18, 2020
Sits out practice Tuesday
Capela (heel) did not participate in practice Tuesday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is still nursing a plantar fascia issue in his right heel that cost him the final eight games before the All-Star break. The Hawks haven't commented on their new center's status for Thursday's game against Miami, but at this point it appears highly unlikely that he'll make his debut.
Feb 9, 2020
Out through All-Star break
Capela (heel) hopes to return coming out of the All-Star break, Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was already ruled out for Sunday's game against the Knicks, but he'll also miss Monday's and Wednesday's contests as he continues his recovery from plantar fasciitis. The 25-year-old's next opportunity to make his debut with the Hawks will come Thursday, Feb. 20 versus the Heat. According to Ben Ladner of SI.com, Capela and Skal Labissiere (knee) will remain in Atlanta during the upcoming road trip to continue their rehab work.
Feb 8, 2020
Won't debut Sunday
Capela (heel) remains out Sunday against the Knicks, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela is still dealing with plantar fasciitis and will be sidelined for a sixth straight contest. His next chance to debut for Atlanta arrives Monday against the Magic.
Feb 6, 2020
Will not play Friday
Capela (heel) remains out Friday against the Celtics, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The recently-traded big man will sit out for a fifth straight contest as he continues to recover from a bruised right heel. It's unclear when he may be able to make his debut for the Hawks and, for now, Capela should be considered day-to-day.
Feb 5, 2020
Shipped to Atlanta
Capela was traded to the Hawks as part of a four-team trade Tuesday with the Rockets, Nuggets and Timberwolves, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Robert Covington will take Capela's place in Houston, as Nene, Malik Beasley, Juancho Hernangomez, Evan Turner, Gerald Green and Keita Bates-Diop are also included in the trade. Capela has missed three of the last four games with a heel injury, but he's averaging 13.9 points, 13.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.8 blocks in 32.8 minutes this season will provide another frontcourt option for Trae Young.
Feb 3, 2020
Won't play Tuesday
Capela (heel) won't play in Tuesday's game against Charlotte, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
According to coach Mike D'Antoni, Capela's "still hurting", indicating that his injured heel hasn't improved enough for him to be an option against the Hornets. P.J. Tucker should continue to start at center as long as Capela's held out.
Feb 2, 2020
Won't return Sunday
Capela (heel) will not play Sunday against New Orleans, Michael Shapiro of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A bruised right heel will keep Capela out of the lineup for the third game in the last four. The Rockets will use a small starting lineup, with P.J. Tucker again starting at center.
Feb 1, 2020
Out Sunday
Capela (heel) will remain sidelined for Sunday's matchup with the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Capela's absence will mark his third straight missed game due to a bruised heel. As a result, the Rockets could opt to go small at center with P.J. Tucker or go with Isaiah Hartenstein. The big man's next chance to suit up will come Tuesday against the Hornets.
Jan 31, 2020
Won't play vs. Mavericks
Capela (heel) is out for Friday's matchup against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Capela will miss his second game in three tries due to a bruised heel. In his place, P.J. Tucker could get the nod again at center, but Isaiah Hartenstein and Thabo Sefolosha could be the main beneficiaries from a workload perspective.
Jan 30, 2020
Struggles in return to lineup
Capela (heel) scored two points, grabbed seven rebounds and committing three turnovers in 17 minutes during Wednesday's 125-112 loss at Portland.
ANALYSIS
Capela started in his return following a one-game absence, but he didn't do much aside from grabbing seven boards and making his lone field goal attempt. The most positive aspect from his return is the fact that he looked healthy, and he should be in line for a bigger workload Friday against Dallas.
Jan 29, 2020
Back in action Wednesday
Capela (heel) will play Wednesday against the Trail Blazers, Cayleigh Griffin of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was expected to be available Wednesday and will indeed rejoin the starting lineup, along with James Harden (groin). Capela averaged 12.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 3.0 blocks in 31.0 minutes over the previous five games before picking up the injury.
Jan 29, 2020
Expected to play Wednesday
Capela (heel) is expected to play Wednesday against the Trail Blazers, Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing one game with a bruised right heel, the big man should be back in action Wednesday. In five road games this month, he's averaged 14.6 points, 14.0 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.0 assist.
Jan 28, 2020
Might go Wednesday
Capela (heel) is being considered questionable for Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Capela was held out of Monday's game against the Jazz with a right heel issue, and his status has since been upgraded to questionable. He'll likely need to fare well in morning shootaround and pregame activities to gain clearance to play Wednesday night.
Jan 27, 2020
Ruled out
Capela (heel) won't play Monday against Utah, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela was deemed doubtful earlier in the day due to a right bruised heel, so this update was expected. Isaiah Hartenstein is a candidate to start at center in his place.
Jan 27, 2020
Listed as doubtful
Capela is listed as doubtful on the injury report ahead of Monday's game against the Jazz due to a bruised right heel.
ANALYSIS
Capela dealt with the same injury earlier in the month, so it looks like he may have aggravated it during Sunday's loss to the Nuggets. His status could change between now and game-time, but if Capela is held out, expect Isaiah Hartenstein and Tyson Chandler to absorb most of the minutes at center.
Jan 25, 2020
One board shy of double-double
Capela accounted for 18 points (9-12 FG, 0-0 3PT, 0-3 FT), nine rebounds and five blocks across 34 minutes in Friday's 131-124 win over Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Capela contributed more points in this one than he had over his last seven while adding five blocks for the second game in a row. On the year, the 25-year-old is averaging 14.4 points and 14 rebounds across 37 games.
Jan 22, 2020
Double-double plus five swats
Capela collected 14 points (7-14 FG, 0-1 FT), 11 rebounds, five blocks and two assists in 34 minutes during Wednesday's 121-105 win over the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Capela logged his 27th double-double through 36 appearances this season, which puts him on pace to surpass his previous record of 45 across 67 games in 2018-19. His scoring has dipped a bit compared to last year, but Capela is maintaining career highs in rebounding and steals while providing his usual rim protection.
Jan 16, 2020
Pulls down 18 boards
Capela finished with 14 points (7-14 FG), 18 rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 36 minutes during Wednesday's 117-107 defeat to the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
The 6-foot-10 center matched up well against a defensive-minded Hassan Whiteside, posting the same amount of boards as his equally worthy adversary. The 25-year-old's 14.5 rebounds averaged are now tied for second with Jazz center Rudy Gobert and just behind Detroit's frontman Andre Drummond (15.6). Capela has particularly feasted at home, averaging 17 points and 16.5 rebounds in his last 11 games, which should be an upside when the Rockets host a tough Lakers team on Saturday.
Jan 14, 2020
Returns to normal role
Capela posted 16 points (6-7 FG, 4-4 FT), 16 rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes on Tuesday night, as the Rockets lost to the Grizzlies 121-110.
ANALYSIS
After failing to record a double-double on Thursday and then missing Saturday's contest with a heel injury, Capela returned to his dominant ways with a strong showing Tuesday. He is sixth in the league in total rebounds and averages the third most per game. Interestingly, Capela's New Year's resolution must've been to improve his free-throw shooting, as the big man is 16-of-18 so far in 2020.
Jan 13, 2020
Will play Tuesday
Capela (heel) will play in Tuesday's game against Memphis, Michael Shapiro of Sports Illustrated reports.
ANALYSIS
It appears as though Capela's absence Saturday was more precautionary rather than anything else, as the star center's slated to return for Tuesday's contest. He'll take on his usual spot in the starting lineup which will force Isaiah Hartenstein to shift back to a bench role.
Jan 11, 2020
Ruled out Saturday
Capela (heel) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Minnesota, Cayleigh Griffin of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela continues to struggle with discomfort in his heel. He missed two games at the end of December for the same issue and appears to have aggravated the injury slightly in Thursday's loss to the Thunder. Though the issue doesn't appear to be anything too serious, Capela's status will remain in question for Tuesday's tilt with Memphis. Isaiah Hartenstein, who posted 28 points, 22 rebounds and five assists in the two previous games that Capela missed, figures to be the biggest beneficiary from his absence.
Jan 10, 2020
Status in jeopardy for Saturday
Capela finished with eight points (3-8 FG, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds, an assist and a block across 29 minutes Thursday against the Thunder. After the game, coach Mike D'Antoni noted that Capela is still dealing with a heel injury and that his status for Saturday against Minnesota is in question, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Capela missed two games at the end of December due to the same issue, and while he's played in each of the last four games, the injury is not yet behind him. The team figures to re-evaluate the center again Friday, at which point his availability could come into focus.
Jan 9, 2020
Puts up monster double-double
Capela had 22 points (9-14 FG, 4-4 FT), 22 rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 36 minutes during Wednesday's 122-115 win at Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Capela has 12 double-doubles in his last 13 games, and he has seen a bigger role on Houston's offensive scheme of late as the big man is averaging 18.6 points while shooting 59.4 percent from the field over his last five outings. He could see his role diminish with the return of Russell Westbrook ahead of Thursday's matchup against the Thunder, but the Swiss big man is a must-roster player as he has been one of the most productive centers in the league over the last few weeks.
