Jose Alvarado Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Nuggets vs Pelicans game on tomorrow with our National Basketball Association injury report.Nov 16, 2025
Matches season high in scoring
Alvarado notched 18 points (6-12 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 3-3 FT), one rebound and three assists in 25 minutes during Sunday's 124-106 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado tied a season high in points, and it was his first time reaching double digits since the Nov. 5 win in Dallas. The guard should continue to take on a regular role in the rotation until Jordan Poole (quadriceps) is healthy and Dejounte Murray (Achilles) is cleared for his season debut. Alvarado has averaged 7.8 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 19.6 minutes per contest across 12 games this season.
Nov 5, 2025
Vintage performance in win
Alvarado chipped in 18 points (7-11 FG, 4-7 3Pt), three rebounds, six assists and two steals over 31 minutes during Tuesday's 116-112 win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was back to his best Tuesday, delivering easily his best performance of the season. After failing to score more than five points in each of the first five games, an 18-point performance was just what the doctor ordered. We have seen games like this from Alvarado in the past, making him someone to at least keep an eye on moving forward. With that said, managers are within their rights to be skeptical, given that these performances are often outliers when viewed as part of the bigger picture.
Oct 28, 2025
Rips away two steals in 22 minutes
Alvarado closed with five points (2-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt), three rebounds, two assists and two steals across 22 minutes during Monday's 122-90 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado didn't log a single second through the Pelicans' first two games of the season, but with New Orleans showing a lackadaisical effort on defense Monday night, Grand Theft Alvarado was finally tagged in. He did do a good job of shifting their energy and effort on defense, so it'll be interesting to see if he can remain in the rotation for Wednesday's game against the Nuggets.
Oct 23, 2025
Didn't play season opener
Alvarado didn't see the floor during Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was one of three players for New Orleans who didn't play in the season opener due to a coach's decision. Jaden Springer and Micah Peavy were also stuck on the bench. Jordan Poole and Jeremiah Fears took priority over Alvarado, whose fantasy value is now in question.
Oct 10, 2025
Goes through practice
Alvarado (knee) participated in Thursday's practice, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado (knee) exited to the locker room in the third quarter of Saturday's 127-92 exhibition game win over the Melbourne Phoenix and didn't return, but Guillory notes that the guard is now fine. This likely means he should be back in the rotation for Tuesday's exhibition against the Rockets.
Oct 5, 2025
Doesn't return Saturday
Alvarado (knee) exited to the locker room in the third quarter of Saturday's 127-92 exhibition game win over the Melbourne Phoenix and didn't return.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado stayed down for an extended period as the medical staff evaluated his right knee but was able to limp to the locker room under his own power. The 27-year-old point guard finished with zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt), four assists and one rebound across 12 minutes. His status will be worth monitoring ahead of the team's next preseason game on Tuesday, Oct. 14, against the Rockets.
Oct 5, 2025
Exits to locker room Saturday
Alvarado exited to the locker room after sustaining an apparent right knee injury in the third quarter of Saturday's exhibition game against the Melbourne Phoenix, per the broadcast.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado stayed down for an extended period after sustaining the injury, as the medical staff evaluated his right knee. The 27-year-old point guard limped to the locker room under his own power, and if he's unable to return, he'll finish with zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt), four assists and one rebound across 12 minutes.
Apr 14, 2025
Poor efficiency in expanded role
Alvarado ended Sunday's 115-100 loss to the Thunder with 14 points (5-16 FG, 1-9 3Pt, 3-3 FT), three rebounds, four assists and two steals across 34 minutes.
ANALYSIS
After both Dejounte Murray (Achilles) and Trey Murphy (shoulder) went down, Alvarado handled an expanded role for the Pelicans down the stretch of the year. Alvarado averaged 14.3 points, 5.0 assists, 3.1 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.9 three-pointers in 27.6 minutes through his last nine games of the regular season, but he logged 3.6 turnovers per contest and shot just 36.5 percent from the field during this stretch. Alvarado figures to begin the 2025-26 campaign in a reserve capacity, assuming the Pelicans are healthier.
Apr 11, 2025
Set to play Friday
Alvarado (calf) is available for Friday's game versus the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been upgraded from questionable to available Friday after missing New Orleans' previous contest due to right calf soreness. Alvarado should reclaim his starting spot from Elfrid Payton against Miami.
Apr 11, 2025
Iffy against Miami
Alvarado (calf) is listed as questionable for Friday's game versus the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado is in danger of missing his second straight contest Friday due to right calf soreness. If Alvarado is ultimately downgraded to out, Elfrid Payton should draw another start.
Apr 10, 2025
Won't play vs. Milwaukee
Alvarado (calf) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
After a 16-point performance in Tuesday's loss to the Nets, Alvarado won't be available Thursday in Milwaukee. The Pelicans will likely turn to Elfrid Payton to shoulder the load at the point guard position, with Antonio Reeves also helping out in the backcourt.
Apr 9, 2025
Questionable for Thursday
Alvarado is questionable for Thursday's game against the Bucks due to right calf soreness.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been navigating through right calf soreness, and while his status for the Pelicans' final three games of the season is uncertain, the fact that he's listed as questionable suggests he has a shot at playing. The veteran floor general has averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.8 three-pointers in 28.1 minutes per game over his past six appearances.
Apr 8, 2025
Will play against Nets
Alvarado (calf) is available for Tuesday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Following a one-game absence in Sunday's loss to the Bucks, Alvarado will play through right calf soreness Tuesday and shouldn't have any restrictions. Over his last six contests, Alvarado has logged 14.2 points, 6.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.7 three-pointers in 28.1 minutes per game but is shooting a poor 37.6 percent from the field while averaging 3.5 turnovers during this span.
Apr 7, 2025
Questionable to play Tuesday
Alvarado (calf) is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado missed the loss to the Bucks on Sunday due to right calf soreness, and the same injury has him questionable to play Tuesday. If he can't go, then expect Elfrid Payton to operate as the point guard in Tuesday's matchup. Prior to the injury, Alvarado had started in eight games in a row with averages of 12.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
Apr 6, 2025
Won't play vs. Milwaukee
Alvarado (calf) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bucks, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado is dealing with right calf soreness, which will keep him sidelined for Sunday's game against Milwaukee. Elfrid Payton will likely be tasked with picking up the slack in the backcourt for this game.
Apr 5, 2025
Questionable to play Sunday
Alvarado is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucks due to right calf soreness.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been operating as the Pelicans' starting point guard in recent games, and losing him would leave the team's backcourt even thinner. If Alvarado doesn't suit up Sunday, Elfrid Payton would be in line to see more minutes in the backcourt.
Apr 5, 2025
Paces team with 27 points
Alvarado accumulated 27 points (10-21 FG, 6-10 3Pt, 1-3 FT), four rebounds and five assists across 28 minutes during Friday's 124-108 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
The Pelicans are doing their level-best to tank, but Alvarado seems to have missed the memo. He's played exceptionally well during the West Coast swing, and they have somehow managed to win some games with Alvarado at the helm. The team will kick the tires and try out some developmental players during the final week, but Alavrado will likely remain in the starting lineup.
Apr 3, 2025
Logs double-double in loss
Alvarado ended with 17 points (7-16 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), two rebounds, 10 assists and one steal across 27 minutes during Wednesday's 114-98 loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado's 17 points were a team high. He also logged his second double of the season in his seventh consecutive start. Several key players are now shut down for the remainder of the season, so Alvarado's tenure with the first unit over the final two weeks.
Mar 29, 2025
Poor shooting effort Friday
Alvarado notched 10 points (4-12 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 2-3 FT), three rebounds, four assists and one block in 27 minutes during Friday's 111-95 loss to Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been handed the task of running the Pelicans' offense due to the plethora of injuries the team has suffered in the backcourt, and the results haven't been encouraging. Over five starts, Alvarado is averaging 9.2 points, 5.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. He should have a decent floor due to his starting role, but Alvarado's lack of efficiency -- he's made 37 percent of his shots in that span -- certainly hurts his upside.
Mar 23, 2025
Cleared to play Sunday
Alvarado (illness) is available for Sunday's game against the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Zion Williamson (back) and Yves Missi (hip) were downgraded from questionable to out, but Alvarado was upgraded to available, extending his streak of consecutive appearances to 20. Over his last 22 games (seven starts), Alvarado has averaged 9.9 points, 5.1 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 26.1 minutes per game.
Mar 22, 2025
Questionable for Sunday
Alvarado is questionable for Sunday's game against the Pistons due to an illness.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has started the last two games for a depleted Pelicans team, but he might be in danger of missing a game for the first time since early February due to a non-COVID illness. Given how depleted the Pelicans are, Jordan Hawkins and Elfrid Payton are options to start at point guard if Alvarado can't go Sunday.
Mar 20, 2025
Hands out six dimes as starter
Alvarado produced eight points (3-5 FG, 2-4 3Pt), three rebounds and six assists across 26 minutes during Wednesday's 119-115 victory over the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was promoted to a starting role due to the season-ending injury of Trey Murphy (shoulder), and he did a good job running the offense, as the presence of a true floor general generated even more opportunities for the likes of Zion Williamson, Yves Missi and Bruce Brown, the three standout performers in Wednesday's game. Alvarado is likely to remain as the Pelicans' starting point guard as long as he stays healthy.
Mar 19, 2025
Promoted to starting five
Alvarado is starting Wednesday's game against Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
With Trey Murphy (shoulder) done for the season, Alvarado jumps into the starting five. Alvarado has averaged 13.9 points, 5.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 30.8 minutes in 12 games as a starter this season.
Mar 14, 2025
Strong showing off bench
Alvarado finished Thursday's 113-93 loss to the Magic with 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 0-1 FT), two rebounds, four assists and three steals over 25 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Although he's shooting 41.8 percent from the field over his last five games, he leads the Pelicans in nine-category fantasy value during that stretch -- he produced 12.2 points, 6.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 2.4 three-pointers in just 25.6 minutes.
Mar 11, 2025
Coming off bench Tuesday
Alvarado is not in the Pelicans' starting lineup against the Clippers on Tuesday, Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alverado made his 12th start of the season in Sunday's loss to the Grizzlies, but he will retreat to the bench Tuesday due to the return of CJ McCollum. Alverado has averaged 8.7 points, 5.2 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals over 25.1 minutes per game since the All-Star break.
Mar 11, 2025
Cleared to play Tuesday
Alvarado (hip) is available for Tuesday's game against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will shake off a questionable tag as he continues to power through this injury. Over his last three outings, Alvarado has posted averages of 11.7 points, 7.3 assists, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 three-pointers on 33.3 percent shooting from the field.
Mar 10, 2025
Questionable to play Tuesday
Alvarado is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against the Clippers due to left hip soreness.
ANALYSIS
Alvardo has played through a left hip issue for the past couple of games, though there's certainly no guarantee that he'll be cleared to play Tuesday. He started in Sunday's 107-104 loss to the Grizzlies and finished with 11 points, 11 assists, two blocks and one steal over 32 minutes.
Mar 10, 2025
Hands out 11 assists
Alvarado ended with 11 points (3-14 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 11 assists, two blocks and one steal in 32 minutes during Sunday's 107-104 loss to Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado recorded his 12th start of the season due to the absences of CJ McCollum (rest) and Zion Williamson (rest), and the veteran floor general responded with an impressive stat line. The 11 dimes not only were a season-high mark for Alvarado, but they also allowed him to record his first double-double of the season. There's no question he benefited fantasy managers with this impressive line, but Alvarado should return to a bench role when the Pels take on the Grizzlies on Sunday in the second leg of this back-to-back set.
Mar 9, 2025
Starting Sunday
Alvarado is in the Pelicans' starting lineup against the Grizzlies on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will make his 12th start of the season due to CJ McCollum (rest) and Zion Williamson (rest) both being ruled out for Sunday's contest. Alvarado started in four straight games right before the All-Star break, and over that span he averaged 12.5 poinst, 6.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals over 29.5 minutes per game.
Mar 9, 2025
Good to go Sunday
Alvarado (hip) is available for Sunday's game against Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will shake off a questionable tag due to left hip soreness and suit up in the second leg of the club's back-to-back set. The 26-year-old point guard could draw the spot start due to CJ McCollum (rest) and Zion Williamson (rest) being sidelined. Over his last five outings, Alvarado has averaged 7.0 points, 4.0 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals across 23.8 minutes per contest.
Mar 9, 2025
Questionable Sunday
Alvarado (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was also listed as questionable due to left hip soreness before playing in Saturday's loss to Houston, and he could miss the second half of the club's back-to-back set. If the 26-year-old point guard joins CJ McCollum (rest) on the sideline Sunday, Jordan Hawkins, Antonio Reeves and Bruce Brown could see an uptick in playing time.
Mar 8, 2025
Good to go against Houston
Alvarado (hip) is available for Saturday's game versus the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been upgraded from questionable to available Saturday despite dealing with left hip soreness. Alvarado is averaging 9.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 26.2 minutes across his last 10 outings.
Mar 7, 2025
Questionable to play Saturday
Alvarado is questionable for Saturday's game against the Rockets due to left hip soreness.
ANALYSIS
The Pelicans will be extremely depleted for the first leg of this back-to-back set, and it's uncertain whether Alvarado will suit up due to this latest injury. A decision on his status will be made closer to Saturday's 7 p.m. ET tipoff, though his absence would thin the team's backcourt depth even more. Alvarado has been slumping of late and is averaging 5.0 points while shooting 25 percent from the floor in three appearances this month.
Mar 5, 2025
Held to five points
Alvarado posted five points (2-8 FG, 1-6 3Pt), two rebounds, three assists and one steal over 26 minutes during Tuesday's 136-115 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado had a rough showing Tuesday and has been stuck in a slump for the past three games. In that stretch, Alvarado has shot 19.0 percent from the field with averages of 3.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 24.1 minutes.
Feb 24, 2025
Teases triple-double in win
Alvarado finished with 12 points (4-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds and eight assists across 30 minutes off the bench during Sunday's 114-96 victory over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
The nine boards were a career high for Alvarado as he came within a whisker of his first career triple-double. The fourth-year guard has returned to the bench coming out of the All-Star break, with Kelly Olynyk getting a look in the starting five instead, but the shift doesn't seem to have impacted Alvarado's usage or minutes. Over his last six contests, he's averaging 11.7 points, 6.3 assists, 4.5 boards, 2.0 threes and 1.8 steals in 29.7 minutes.
Feb 21, 2025
Coming off bench Friday
Alvarado is not in the Pelicans' starting lineup against the Mavericks on Friday, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has started in the Pelicans' last four games and has averaged 12.5 points, 6.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals over 29.5 minutes per game over that span. He'll revert to a bench role Friday while Kelly Olynyk gets inserted into the starting lineup.
Feb 14, 2025
Full stat line in victory
Alvarado amassed 18 points (6-12 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight assists, five rebounds and three steals across 34 minutes during Thursday's 140-133 overtime win over the Kings.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old tied Trey Murphy as the second-leading scorer behind CJ McCollum (43 points) in the overtime victory. Alvarado also tied the game-high mark in steals, logging his 11th outing with multiple steals through 31 regular-season appearances. The fourth-year guard has started in four consecutive contests, averaging 12.5 points, 6.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals across 29.5 minutes per game.
Feb 13, 2025
Flirts with double-double in loss
Alvarado notched 18 points (7-15 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 1-1 FT), three rebounds, nine assists, one block and two steals over 32 minutes during Wednesday's 119-111 loss to the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado fell one assist short of his first double-double of the season, turning in a strong two-way performance. He continues to play a sizeable role for the banged-up Pelicans, starting the past three games. Although his minutes are somewhat inconsistent, it appears as though he is going to feature prominently down the stretch.
Feb 11, 2025
Struggles in second straight start
Alvarado accumulated nine points (4-9 FG, 1-5 3Pt) in 23 minutes during Monday's 137-101 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been thrust into a new role with the Pelicans due to the season-ending injury Dejounte Murray (Achilles) suffered and with CJ McCollum out for personal reasons. As the starter for New Orleans, the 26-year-old point guard has not played well, especially when it comes to his outside shooting, going a combined 2-for-10 from beyond the arc in consecutive losses to the Kings and Thunder.
Feb 8, 2025
Starting Saturday
Alvarado will start Saturday's game against the Kings, James Ham of ESPN 1320 Sacramento reports.
ANALYSIS
After a one-game absence, Alvarado has been cleared to suit up and will make his first start since Nov. 11, as Herbert Jones (shoulder) is out for a few months and Dejounte Murray (Achilles) is out for the season.
Feb 7, 2025
Appears past illness
Alvarado (illness) is not on the injury report ahead of Saturday's game against the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was unable to play in Wednesday's 144-119 loss to the Nuggets due to an illness, but it appears he recovered enough to be able to play Saturday. Alvarado has averaged 13.0 points, 4.3 assists and 1.7 rebounds over 23.7 minutes per game over his last three outings.
Feb 5, 2025
Ruled out Wednesday
Alvarado (illness) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado won't be able to play Wednesday in Denver. The defensive-minded guard is battling an illness on the road. Jordan Hawkins, Javonte Green and Antonio Reeves might have to pick up the slack in the backcourt for New Orleans.
Feb 5, 2025
Iffy due to illness
Alvarado (illness) is questionable for Wednesday's game versus Denver, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was a late addition to the injury report and that's a bad sign for the Pelicans as they are already shorthanded. If Alvarado is unable to go, there could be more minutes available for guys like Jordan Hawkins, Javonte Green and Antonio Reeves.
Feb 1, 2025
Puts up 20 points in loss
Alvarado chipped in 20 points (6-14 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 5-6 FT), three rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal across 34 minutes during Friday's 118-116 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado started the game on the bench but ended up playing a heavy dose of minutes following the season-ending Achilles injury sustained by Dejounte Murray. Given how depleted the Pelicans are in the backcourt, expect Alvarado to possibly move into a starting role, or at the very least, to see a sizable uptick in his minutes. Alvarado has scored in double digits in just 11 of his appearances this season.
Jan 25, 2025
Returns to Saturday's game
Alvarado (undisclosed) returned in the third quarter of Saturday's game against the Hornets, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvardo went to the locker room in the second quarter due to an undisclosed injury. The issue doesn't appear to be severe, as Alvarado checked in for CJ McCollum at the 7:32 mark in the third quarter.
Jan 25, 2025
Exits game due to injury
Alvarado went to the locker room in the second quarter of Saturday's game against the Hornets, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado checked out at the 4:29 mark in the second quarter of Saturday's game and went to the locker room shortly after. It's unclear why he exited the game, but Javonte Green could see additional run time off the bench for as long as Alvarado is out of the game.
Jan 13, 2025
Scores nine points in 12 minutes
Alvarado contributed nine points (3-5 FG, 3-4 3Pt) across 12 minutes during Sunday's 120-119 loss to Boston.
ANALYSIS
Since returning to the lineup on Jan. 3, Alvarado's fantasy appeal has been limited to deeper formats. Over his last six games, he averaged 8.7 points, 3.2 assists, 1.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 2.0 three-pointers in 17.8 minutes per contest.
Jan 8, 2025
Scores 13 points off bench
Alvarado amassed 13 points (4-11 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, one assist and one steal across 20 minutes during Tuesday's 104-97 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado didn't have his best shooting performance, but he still found a way to contribute in the scoring column. This was his first double-digit scoring effort since returning from a lengthy injury absence, but his fantasy upside will be limited if he continues to play a hard cap of 20 minutes off the bench in the upcoming contests.
Jan 4, 2025
Three steals in return
Alvarado (hamstring) posted five points (2-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt), three assists, three steals and two rebounds across 20 minutes Friday in the Pelicans' 132-120 win over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was on a restriction in his return from a 23-game absence due to a left hamstring strain, but the 20 minutes he ended up receiving is probably a good approximation of what he'll get in most games when the Pelicans' usual backcourt starters (Dejounte Murray and CJ McCollum) are available. While Alvarado should be a good source of assists, steals and three-pointers on a per-minute basis, he won't have much appeal outside of deeper leagues now that the Pelicans are healthier in the backcourt.
Jan 3, 2025
Will be limited Friday
Alvarado (hamstring), who is available to play in Friday's game against the Wizards, will operate under a minutes restriction, Erin Summers of the Gulf Coast Sports & Entertainment Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will return to action following a 23-game absence due to a left hamstring strain, though the Pelicans will limit his playing time as they work him back to playing form. The 26-year-old appeared in 11 regular-season matchups before the hamstring injury, during which he averaged 10.7 points, 4.5 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals across a career-high 25.6 minutes per contest.
Jan 3, 2025
Gets green light Friday
Alvarado (hamstring) is listed as available for Friday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will return to game action after missing the club's last 23 outings due to a left hamstring strain. It wouldn't be surprising if the 26-year-old operates under a minutes restriction during his return, though the spark he provides will be a welcome addition to the second unit. Alvarado appeared in 11 regular-season matchups before the hamstring injury, during which he averaged 10.7 points, 4.5 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals across a career-high 25.6 minutes per contest.
Jan 2, 2025
Probable against Washington
Alvarado (hamstring) has been listed as probable for Friday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has missed 23 straight games and will be a welcome addition to the backcourt when he returns to the floor for New Orleans. He is averaging a career-high 10.7 points and 4.5 assists per game, shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Jan 2, 2025
Set to return Friday
Alvarado (hamstring) said Thursday that he will play in Friday's game versus the Wizards, Erin Summers of the Gulf Coast Sports & Entertainment Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has missed New Orleans' previous 23 contests due to a left hamstring strain but appears ready to go Friday. However, Alvarado will likely operate on a minutes restriction as he works his way fully back into game shape.
Jan 1, 2025
Won't play Wednesday vs. Heat
Alvarado (hamstring) has been ruled out for Wednesday night's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been sidelined since Nov. 13 due to a left hamstring strain, but he has been ramping up his participation in practice as of late. His next opportunity to play will be Friday against the Wizards.
Dec 31, 2024
Unlikely to play Wednesday
Alvarado (hamstring) is doubtful for Wednesday's game against the Heat, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been a full participant at recent practices and is expected to return to game action soon, but that likely won't happen Wednesday. The backup point guard hasn't played since Nov. 11 due to a left hamstring strain and will presumably face restrictions when eventually given the green light.
Dec 29, 2024
Nearing return to game action
Alvarado (hamstring) was a full participant during Sunday's practice and expects to return to game action soon, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado hasn't suited up since sustaining the left hamstring strain Nov. 11. The 26-year-old guard said he is unlikely to play in Monday's matchup against the Clippers, according to Guillory; however, he could make his return as soon as Wednesday's game against the Heat. Alvarado has appeared in 11 regular-season outings thus far, during which he has averaged 10.7 points, 4.5 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals across 25.6 minutes per contest.
Dec 24, 2024
Considered week-to-week
Alvarado (hamstring) will return to full practice next week and is considered week-to-week, the Pelicans announced Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado hasn't played since he sustained a left hamstring strain Nov. 11, but he appears to be progressing towards a return. Based on this update, the earliest he could return is Jan. 1 against Miami, but that might be pushing it with how cautious the franchise has been.
Dec 22, 2024
Remains out Sunday
Alvarado (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado hasn't played since he sustained a left hamstring strain Nov. 11, though the Pelicans announced in early December that he was progressing well in his rehab. The 26-year-old's next chance to make his return to game action will come Thursday against the Rockets.
Dec 20, 2024
Won't play Saturday against Knicks
Alvarado (hamstring) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against New York.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been out of action since Nov. 13 due to a left hamstring strain, which will force him to miss his 18th straight game Saturday. His next opportunity to play will be Sunday against the Nuggets.
Dec 19, 2024
Still out Thursday
Alvarado (hamstring) won't play in Thursday's game against the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was set for re-evaluation two weeks from Dec. 4, but he remains sidelined for Thursday's game. The point guard has been tending to a strained left hamstring and hasn't appeared in a game since Nov. 11. While he lacks a clear timeline for return, his next chance to play will come Saturday against the Knicks.
Dec 4, 2024
To be re-evaluated in two weeks
Alvarado (hamstring) continues progressing through rehab and will be re-evaluated in approximately two weeks.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been sidelined since Nov. 11 due to a left hamstring strain. Dejounte Murray's return to action on Nov. 27 coupled with the emergence of two-way player Brandon Boston has salvaged New Orleans' backcourt around CJ McCollum, but depth remains thin beyond this trio.
Nov 12, 2024
Set for checkup in three weeks
The Pelicans announced Tuesday that Alvarado has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain and will be re-evaluated in approximately three weeks.
ANALYSIS
Earlier Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that Alvarado would be sidelined for six weeks due to the injury the point guard suffered in Monday's 107-105 loss to the Nets. While the timeline provided by Charania could ultimately hold up, the Pelicans will wait and see where Alvarado is at in his recovery once he's re-evaluated in early December before a potential target date for his return to game action may come into the focus. In any case, Alvarado's multi-week absence represents another hit to the Pelicans' backcourt depth, which has already been tested early on this season with CJ McCollum (adductor), Dejounte Murray (hand) and Jordan Hawkins (back) currently sidelined with injuries of their own. Until at least one of Murray, McCollum or Alvarado returns to action, Brandon Boston and Brandon Ingram are likely to operate as the Pelicans' main ball handlers.
Nov 12, 2024
Expected to miss six weeks
Alvarado is expected to miss six weeks due to a hamstring injury, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
This is a brutal blow for the Pelicans, as they are already dealing with a handful of injuries to key rotation players. With this timetable, Alvarado will likely be sidelined until after Christmas. Brandon Boston has been a popular pickup in fantasy basketball lately and is going to have the ball in his hands a ton, while players such as Jaylen Nowell and Javonte Green could see more reps as well.
Nov 11, 2024
Returns to game Monday
Alvarado has returned to Monday's game against the Nets, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado went back to the locker room in the third quarter after appearing to tweak something in his leg; however, he was able to return early in the fourth quarter. The 26-year-old has served as the club's starting point guard with Dejounte Murray (hand) and CJ McCollum (adductor) out.
Nov 11, 2024
Leaves game early Monday
Alvarado (undisclosed) went back to the locker room during Monday's game against the Nets, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado checked himself out of the game before heading back to the locker room in the third quarter. If the 26-year-old is unable to return, expect Jaylen Nowell and Antonio Reeves to pick up the slack in a depleted backcourt.
Nov 9, 2024
Productive showing once again
Alvarado closed with 21 points (7-18 FG, 4-11 3Pt, 3-6 FT), five rebounds, five assists and three steals in 35 minutes during Friday's 115-88 loss to the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was unable to repeat his outstanding performance from the loss to the Cavaliers on Friday when he scored a season-high 27 points while going 7-for-7 from beyond the arc. However, he posted his second straight game with at least 20 points and scored in double digits for the fifth time in six starts. He's stepping up for the Pelicans amid a rough stretch since four of the projected five starters are injured. Since being promoted to a starting role, Alvarado is averaging 17.2 points, 5.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 44.7 percent from deep.
Nov 7, 2024
Pops for 27 in loss to Cavs
Alvarado provided 27 points (10-14 FG, 7-7 3Pt), two rebounds, five assists and three steals across 35 minutes during Wednesday's 131-122 loss to the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
The fourth-year guard has his best scoring night of the season while making his fifth straight start with both Dejounte Murray (hand) and CJ McCollum (thigh) sidelined. Since moving into the starting five, Alvarado is averaging 16.4 points, 5.8 assists, 3.4 boards, 3.4 threes and 1.4 steals a contest, and his productive run should continue for another week or more with neither neither of the Pelicans' injured stars expected back until later in November.
Nov 6, 2024
Available to play Wednesday
Alvarado (ankle) is available for Wednesday's game against the Cavaliers, Marc J. Spears of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Pelicans have been massively affected by injuries over the first two weeks of the regular season, but this time, they'll be as strong as they can be with Alvarado, Jordan Hawkins (back) and Zion Williamson (thigh) all being available. Alvarado should handle heavy minutes as the starting point guard.
Nov 6, 2024
Questionable for Wednesday
Alvarado is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Cavaliers due to a right ankle sprain.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was a late addition to the injury report following the morning shootaround. Given how many injuries the Pelicans are dealing with, it would be a brutal blow for the team if Alvarado is unable to play. Players such as Antonio Reeves, Jaylen Nowell and Javonte Green could potentially see an uptick in minutes as a result of this news.
Nov 5, 2024
Continues solid play Monday
Alvarado had 18 points (4-14 FG, 3-9 3Pt, 7-7 FT), one rebound and six assists across 34 minutes during Monday's 118-100 loss to the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has struggled from the field over the past two games, going 7-for-26. However, he's 9-for-9 from the charity stripe during those games and has contributed 13 assists to two turnovers. Alvarado should continue seeing an increased role for as long as CJ McCollum (thigh) and Dejounte Murray (hand) are sidelined, which should be at least another week and a half -- likely longer. Fantasy managers can look to Alvarado as a solid source of assists and steals.
Nov 2, 2024
All-around performance in win
Alvarado finished with 12 points (5-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt), six rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 32 minutes during Friday's 125-118 win over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
With CJ McCollum (thigh) out for at least two more weeks, Alvarado should remain in New Orleans' starting lineup. The 26-year-old guard tied Brandon Ingram with a team-high seven assists during Friday's victory. Alvarado is averaging 14.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in 33.5 minutes across his last two starting appearances.
Oct 31, 2024
Steps in at point guard
Alvarado provided 16 points (6-13 FG, 4-8 3Pt), five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal across 35 minutes during Wednesday's 104-89 loss to Golden State.
ANALYSIS
The Pelicans have experimented with a mix of CJ McCollum (leg), Brandon Ingram and Herbert Jones (shoulder) to make up for Dejounte Murray's season-ending injury, but the team was forced to take another approach with McCollum and Jones on the sideline. Alvarado's insertion at point guard provided a more traditional first-unit scheme, moving Ingram to the wing. He had a solid line in his first start, and although the Pelicans got behind early, he was able to complete a diverse line with contributions in every major category. The Pelicans will await news on McCollum after his MRI, and that will determine how much we'll see of Alvarado in the immediate future.
Oct 23, 2024
Cleared for action
Alvarado (knee) is available Wednesday versus Chicago, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado and Dejounte Murray (personal) are active for Wednesday's season opener, although Zion Williamson (illness) being inactive leaves a void in New Orleans' offense. Alvarado appeared in just 56 contests last season, which puts an amplified focus on his durability entering 2024-25.
Oct 23, 2024
Now probable Wednesday
Alvarado (knee) has been upgraded to probable for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado is now on track to play despite dealing with a right knee contusion. With Zion Williamson (illness) and Trey Murphy (hamstring) out, there should be plenty of minutes available for Alvarado.
Oct 22, 2024
Iffy against Chicago
Alvarado is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game versus the Bulls due to a right knee contusion.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear when Alvarado suffered his injury, but it could cause him to miss New Orleans' regular-season opener. If Alvarado is forced to sit out, Antonio Reeves and Jordan Hawkins are candidates to receive increased playing time.
Sep 28, 2024
Staying in New Orleans
The Pelicans signed Alvarado to a two-year, $9 million contract extension with a player option for 2026-27 on Saturday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has played the first three years of his career in New Orleans and is now set to remain with the team for at least two more seasons. In 2023-24, he averaged 7.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 18.4 minutes across 56 regular-season appearances. Alvarado is slated to be the Pelicans' backup point guard to Dejounte Murray next season.
Aug 3, 2024
Leads Puerto Rico in Olympics loss
Alvarado ended with 18 points (7-13 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three assists, one rebound and one steal across 22 minutes in Puerto Rico's 104-83 loss to Team USA in the Paris Olympics on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Puerto Rico's Olympics campaign has officially ended with an 0-3 record in Group C. Alvarado led Puerto Rico to an early lead; however, once Team USA got going in the second quarter the game quickly got out of hand. The 26-year-old scored a team-high 18 points in the loss, and he served as the squad's top option throughout the group stage. In three group-phase appearances, Alvarado averaged 15.3 points, 3.0 assists and 1.7 rebounds across 23.7 minutes per game.
Jul 28, 2024
Game-high 26 points in loss
Alvarado totaled 26 points (9-16 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 5-6 FT), five assists, two rebounds and two steals across 32 minutes in Puerto Rico's 90-79 loss to South Sudan in the Paris Olympics on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Despite the loss, Alvarado was stellar against South Sudan as he put up a game-high 26 points. The 26-year-old has made a name for himself as a defensive nightmare for opposing backcourts, and he showed his offensive abilities while also tying the team-high of two steals. In 56 regular-season appearances with the Pelicans last year, Alvarado averaged 7.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 18.4 minutes per game.
Jul 25, 2024
Set to play for Puerto Rico
Alvarado is included on Puerto Rico's roster for the Paris Olympics.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado is slated to remain in New Orleans for a fourth consecutive year during the 2024-25 NBA season, but he'll first play for the Puerto Rican national team in the Olympics. Over 56 regular-season appearances with the Pelicans last year, he averaged 7.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 18.4 minutes per game.
Jun 28, 2024
Sticks in New Orleans
The Pelicans are picking up Alvarado's $1.99 million team option for 2024-25, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Friday.
ANALYSIS
An undrafted point guard out of Georgia Tech, Alvarado has solidified himself as the Pelicans' top backup point guard over the last three seasons and will likely maintain that role next season. Last season, Alvarado averaged 7.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 18.4 minutes per game across 56 appearances.
Apr 16, 2024
Plays significant role in loss
Alvarado logged 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt), two rebounds and seven assists over 25 minutes during Tuesday's 110-106 Play-In Game loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado closed the game Tuesday, providing the Pelicans with plenty of energy off the bench. He served as the primary ball handler down the stretch, making several key plays, particularly on the offensive end. He did appear to suffer two separate ankle injuries during the second half, something that the medical staff will be monitoring ahead of Friday's must-win matchup against either the Warriors or the Kings.
Apr 7, 2024
No limitations in return
Alvarado (oblique) tallied 15 points (5-10 FG, 5-8 3Pt), three rebounds and one steal across 22 minutes Sunday in the Pelicans' 113-105 win over the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Given that he had missed the Pelicans' previous five games with a right oblique strain, Alvarado was expected to face some restrictions Sunday, but he ended up exceeding his season average of 17.8 minutes per contest. Alvarado may continue to have a path to a 20-plus-minute role until the Pelicans get Brandon Ingram (knee) back from injury, likely at some point during the upcoming week.
Apr 7, 2024
Good to go Sunday
Alvarado (oblique) has been cleared for Sunday's game versus Phoenix, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will return from a five-game absence due to a right oblique strain, so he could operate under a limited workload Sunday. The 25-year-old has logged just 908 total minutes this season while dealing with a myriad of minor injuries after accumulating 1,311 minutes last year. Alvarado ramping up into the rotation as New Orleans attempts to escape the Play-In Tournament would be a notable addition.
Apr 6, 2024
Questionable against Suns
Alvarado (oblique) is questionable to face the Suns on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has missed the past five games for New Orleans, but he's now considered day-to-day. During the month of March, Alvarado averaged 6.7 points, 2.6 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals.
Apr 4, 2024
Another absence coming
Alvarado (oblique) is out for Friday's game versus the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado's absence streak will extend to five games Friday due to a right oblique strain. His next chance to suit up is Sunday's matchup with Phoenix.
Apr 2, 2024
Won't play Wednesday
Alvarado (oblique) will be inactive Wednesday versus Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will miss his fourth consecutive game due to a right oblique strain. The Pelicans have limped to a 2-4 record without him since the All-Star break, although Dyson Daniels (knee) returning to action as of March 30 adds depth to the backcourt.
Mar 31, 2024
Still sidelined
Alvarado (oblique) is out for Monday's game against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will miss a third consecutive game due to an oblique strain. Jordan Hawkins will likely see an increase in playing time with Alvarado out of the lineup.
Mar 29, 2024
Won't play Saturday
Alvarado (oblique) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado didn't practice Friday and will miss a second straight game due to a right oblique strain. His next chance to suit up will come Monday versus Phoenix, but barring a return to practice over the weekend, Alvarado likely won't be available for that contest.
Mar 28, 2024
Won't play Thursday
Alvarado (hip) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado left Tuesday's loss to the Thunder in the fourth quarter due to right hip soreness but is now listed with a right oblique strain. His next chance to suit up will come Saturday versus Boston, but depending on how severe the strain is, Alvarado may be looking at a multi-game absence. In Alvarado's stead, Jordan Hawkins could carve out meaningful minutes again, especially with Brandon Ingram (knee) sidelined for a few weeks.
Mar 27, 2024
Questionable for Thursday
Alvarado (hip) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Bucks, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado left Tuesday's loss to the Thunder in the fourth quarter due to right hip soreness and may miss an additional contest. If the backup point guard is sidelined, Jordan Hawkins could carve out meaningful minutes off the bench, especially with Brandon Ingram (knee) sidelined for a few weeks.
Mar 27, 2024
Exits with lower-body injury
Alvarado exited in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's 119-112 loss to the Thunder with an apparent hip or back injury and didn't return, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. He recorded eight points (3-7 FG, 2-6 3Pt), three rebounds, three assists and one steal in 16 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado checked out of the game for good with 8:04 remaining in the period and headed straight to the locker room. Head coach Willie Green didn't provide a clear update on Alvarado's status following the game, merely noting that he hopes the reserve guard will be OK moving forward. Until more information about the nature and severity of Alvarado's injury is known, consider him questionable for the Pelicans' next game Thursday versus the Bucks.
Mar 16, 2024
Drops nine points in 15 minutes
Alvarado totaled nine points (3-5 FG, 3-5 3Pt) and one steal in 15 minutes during Friday's 112-104 win over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado scored fewer than 10 points for the seventh straight game, continuing to serve as a depth piece off the bench. He is well outside the top 200 in standard leagues this season, providing nothing outside of his 1.1 steals per game. Short of being a steals specialist, Alvarado can be left on waivers in all competitive formats.
Feb 29, 2024
Available to face Indiana
Alvarado is available to face the Pacers on Friday following his three-game suspension.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was suspended "for leaving the bench area during an on-court altercation that occurred with 11:19 remaining in the fourth quarter of Friday's 106-95 loss to the Heat", but the ban is over, and the guard should be an option off the bench when New Orleans takes on Indiana. Alvarado has made each of his 39 appearances off the bench, averaging 7.0 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game.
Feb 25, 2024
Draws three-game suspension
The NBA announced Sunday that Alvarado has been suspended three games without pay for leaving the bench area during an on-court altercation that occurred with 11:19 remaining in the fourth quarter of Friday's 106-95 loss to the Heat, Marc J. Spears of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Five players in total were suspended as a result of the altercation that was sparked when the Heat's Kevin Love committed a foul on the Pelicans' Zion Williamson. Miami's Jimmy Butler and New Orleans' Naji Marshall proceeded to begin fighting after the Love foul and drew one-game suspension for their actions, while Alvarado and the Heat's Thomas Bryant received three-game bans for leaving the bench and getting involved in the fracas. The Heat's Nikola Jovic was also a handed a one-game suspension for leaving the bench area. Alvarado and Marshall will begin serving their suspensions Sunday versus the Bulls, potentially leaving the Pelicans shorthanded with two starters in Brandon Ingram (illness) and Zion Williamson (foot) already listed as questionable for the contest and with another CJ McCollum (ankle) ruled out. Alvarado is eligible to return to action Friday versus the Pacers.
Feb 23, 2024
Ejected after altercation
Alvarado was ejected from Friday's game versus Miami with 11:19 remaining in the fourth quarter.
ANALYSIS
After things escalated between Jimmy Butler and Naji Marshall on the court, Alvarado got into a scrap with Thomas Bryant on the sidelines and punches were thrown from both sides. This puts Alvarado's status for Sunday's game against Chicago in jeopardy, and that's not ideal for the Pelicans since C.J. McCollum left this game with an ankle injury. Alvarado finished with five points (2-9 FG, 1-3 3Pt), three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 18 minutes.
Feb 3, 2024
Steady presence in win
Alvarado recorded eight points (3-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt), two rebounds, three assists and two steals across 19 minutes during Friday's 114-113 win over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado continues to play a modest role, but he was part of New Orleans' closing lineup Friday, symbolizing the trust he has in the rotation. The 25-year-old is hitting 39.0 percent of 3.4 threes per game this season, but he rarely exceeds a 15-20 minute role, which best profiles him as a streaming candidate when the Pelicans are shorthanded.
Jan 19, 2024
Barely visible in loss
Alvarado closed with two points (1-4 FG, 0-3 3Pt) and one assist over seven minutes during Friday's 123-109 loss to Phoenix.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado played just seven minutes off the bench in the loss, a worrying trend for anyone who is hoping he can be a steals streamer. To this point, he is averaging 1.0 steals per game, logging 16.5 minutes per night. Given he has played seven and three minutes respectively in each of the past two games, his outlook is quite bleak.
Jan 10, 2024
Good to go against Golden State
Alvarado (illness) is available for Wednesday's game versus the Warriors, Marc J. Spears of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been upgraded from questionable to available after missing the Pelicans' previous game with an illness. Alvarado is averaging 7.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals in 20.0 minutes across his last five appearances.
Jan 9, 2024
Listed as questionable
Alvarado (illness) is questionable for Wednesday's game versus the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado missed his first game since Dec. 1 on Sunday against the Kings, but he remains day-to-day. If he's forced to the sidelines again, Dyson Daniels could see another significant workload and had 14 points, six assists, five rebounds and two three-pointers in his last outing Sunday.
Jan 6, 2024
Out with illness
Alvarado won't play in Sunday's game versus the Kings due to a non-COVID illness.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will miss his first game since Dec. 1 on Sunday due to an illness. Dyson Daniels will likely receive increased minutes in his absence. Alvarado's next chance to suit up is Wednesday's matchup with the Warriors.
Jan 2, 2024
Leads bench in scoring
Alvarado registered 13 points (4-9 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-3 FT), three rebounds, two assists and two steals over 22 minutes in Tuesday's 112-85 win over the Nets.
ANALYSIS
With the Pelicans up by 25 points at halftime, Alvarado and the rest of the bench players got extended playing time. It was the first time he registered double-digit points since Dec. 17 in a blowout win over the Spurs. Alvarado has now played 20-plus minutes in two straight games, but is averaging just 6.7 points on the season.
Dec 18, 2023
Plays well in blowout
Alvarado finished Sunday's 146-110 victory over the Spurs with 16 points (5-7 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), three rebounds, four assists and one steal in 22 minutes.
ANALYSIS
The Pelicans put this game away in a hurry, allowing Alvarado to feast in garbage time. In the final six minutes of the fourth quarter, Alvarado racked up nine of his 16 points to help him secure a new season-best mark. Alvarado is likely to be an inconsistent source of fantasy value as long as C.J. McCollum and Dyson Daniels are healthy.
Dec 2, 2023
Good to go Saturday
Alvarado (ankle) is available for Saturday's game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado wasn't able to play in Friday's game against the Spurs, but he'll return Saturday and provide some backcourt support with C.J. McCollum taking the night off for rest. It's more likely that Dyson Daniels sees the bulk of the point guard minutes Saturday.
Dec 2, 2023
Questionable for Saturday
Alvarado (ankle) is questionable for Saturday's matchup against the Bulls, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado missed Friday's win over the Spurs due to a right ankle sprain and may be sidelined for a second straight game Saturday. If he remains out, Dyson Daniels and Jordan Hawkins are candidates for increased roles, as CJ McCollum (chest/rest), Trey Murphy (rest) and Matt Ryan (elbow) are also out.
Dec 1, 2023
Will not play
Alvarado (ankle) will not play in Friday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado is considered day-to-day, but his status for Saturday against the Bulls is in the air. With Alvarado sidelined, Dyson Daniels and Jordan Hawkins will hold down the fort for the second unit.
Nov 30, 2023
Deemed questionable for Friday
Alvarado (ankle) is questionable for Friday's game against San Antonio, Erin Summers of Bally Sports New Orleans reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado tweaked his ankle during Wednesday's game against the 76ers and returned to action afterward, but he didn't practice Thursday and will carry a questionable tag ahead of the first half of a back-to-back set Friday. If he's unavailable, Dyson Daniels and Jordan Hawkins could see increased run.
Nov 29, 2023
Returns after brief exit
Alvarado (ankle) has returned to Wednesday's game against the 76ers, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado departed from Wednesday's game against Philadelphia after tweaking his right ankle -- the same ankle that held him out for nearly the first month of the season. His re-appearance should issue confidence for fantasy managers moving forward.
Nov 29, 2023
Questionable to return
Alvarado is questionable to return during Wednesday's game against the 76ers due to a right ankle injury.
ANALYSIS
While he still has a chance at returning to Wednesday's tilt, it's certainly a concerning sign that the injury is in the same ankle that kept him out of the first 13 games of 2023. If he can't return, expect Dyson Daniels and Jordan Hawkins to see more action while Kira Lewis could crack the rotation.
Nov 21, 2023
Scores five points in debut
Alvarado (ankle) posted five points (2-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt) and three assists across 15 minutes in Monday's 129-93 win over the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado missed the Pelicans' first 13 games of the season while recovering from an ankle sprain, but he received the green light to make his debut Monday, albeit on a minute restriction. With the game turning into a blowout, the Pelicans didn't need to overextend Alvarado, who could gradually see his playing time creep up in the team's subsequent contests. Dyson Daniels and Jordan Hawkins are likely to see their respective minutes take hits moving forward with Alvarado back in the fold, though all could still make for low-end 12-to-14-team league options in category leagues until CJ McCollum (lung) and Trey Murphy (knee) are cleared to return to action.
Nov 20, 2023
Says he'll play Monday
Alvarado (ankle) said that he'll play in Monday's game against the Kings, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was questionable for Monday's matchup, but he'll be able to make his season debut after missing the Pelicans' first 13 games with a right ankle sprain. It wouldn't be surprising to see him face some sort of minutes restriction during his first game back in action.
Nov 19, 2023
Questionable for Monday
Alvarado (ankle) is questionable for Monday's game against the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has missed the Pelicans' first 13 games of the season but is expected to return to action soon. If he's available for Monday's matchup, it wouldn't be surprising to see him have a limited workload.
Nov 18, 2023
Ruled out against Minnesota
Alvarado (ankle) won't play in Saturday's game versus the Timberwolves, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has been downgraded from questionable to out Saturday due to a right ankle sprain. However, the 25-year-old guard is expected to return to action soon, with Monday's contest versus Sacramento being his next chance to suit up.
Nov 18, 2023
Questionable for Saturday
Alvarado (ankle) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game versus the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has yet to suit up this season due to an ankle injury. However, his status being upgraded to questionable is a good sign of his availability against Minnesota.
Nov 17, 2023
Out Friday
Alvardo (ankle) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Nuggets, Erin Summers of Bally Sports New Orleans reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Alvardo has been downgraded from doubtful to out and will miss a 12th straight game due to start the campaign. However, coach Willie Green said it's possible the backup guard will make his season debut during the second half of New Orleans' back-to-back set versus Minnesota on Saturday.
Nov 16, 2023
Doubtful Friday
Alvarado (ankle) is doubtful for Friday's game against the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Although Alvarado will likely remain out for Friday's matchup, it's at least encouraging that he's listed as doubtful on the team's initial injury report rather than being immediately ruled out. The Pelicans also face the Timberwolves in the second half of a back-to-back set Saturday, and it wouldn't be surprising if Alvarado is out for that matchup as well.
Nov 8, 2023
Likely out another 1-2 weeks
The Pelicans announced Wednesday that Alvarado (ankle) is expected to return to full team practice in 1-2 weeks.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado sprained his right ankle during an offseason workout but has progressing well recently. He's been doing light on-court work recently, and it's encouraging that he has a timetable for full participation in practice. It's possible he'll be able to return to game action shortly after, but it also wouldn't be surprising to face some restrictions once he's cleared to return.
Nov 7, 2023
Still out Wednesday
Alvarado (ankle) won't play in Wednesday's game versus the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado suffered his ankle injury during preseason and has yet to make his season debut. While the Pelicans said he would be re-evaluated by now, no update has been provided. With CJ McCollum (chest) also out, Jordan Hawkins, Kira Lewis and Dyson Daniels should continue to receive extended minutes in the backcourt.
Oct 24, 2023
Re-evaluated in two weeks
Alvarado (ankle) will be re-evaluated in two weeks, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado suffered the injury during offseason workouts and later had a setback during camp. With Alvarado sidelined for at least the first couple weeks of the season, second-year point guard Dyson Daniels will have an opportunity to showcase his talents behind CJ McCollum.
Oct 23, 2023
Doesn't practice Monday
Alvarado (ankle) didn't participate in Monday's practice session, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado sustained a right ankle sprain in late September and was forced to miss the entire preseason. Although he practiced in a limited capacity late last week and has been targeting an Opening Night return, it appears increasingly unlikely that he'll be able to suit up for Wednesday's regular-season opener in Memphis. If he misses time to begin the regular season, Dyson Daniels and Kira Lewis could see increased work.
Oct 19, 2023
Practices in limited capacity
Alvarado (ankle) participated in non-contact portions of Thursday's practice session, Erin Summers of Bally Sports New Orleans reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado missed the entire preseason due to a right ankle sprain that he sustained in late September, but the hope has been that he'd be ready for Opening Night against the Grizzlies on Oct. 25. While he'll presumably have to ramp up his intensity in practice before he's cleared to suit up, it's encouraging to at least see him practicing in a limited fashion.
Oct 2, 2023
Targeting opening night
Alvarado is hopeful to be ready for the season opener on Oct. 25, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The point guard suffered a right ankle sprain and was given a 2-3 week timetable on Sept. 28, so it's good to hear that he's still trending in the right direction. With CJ McCollum expected to run the point for the starting lineup, Alvarado will compete with Dyson Daniels for backup minutes.
Sep 28, 2023
Out for 2-3 weeks
Alvarado (ankle) is expected to return to basketball activities in approximately 2-3 weeks, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado suffered a right ankle sprain during an offseason workout that could keep him out for most, if not all, of the preseason. However, the third-year point guard should be healthy for the Pelicans' regular-season opener on Oct. 25 against Memphis.
Sep 17, 2023
Questionable for training camp
Alvarado suffered an ankle sprain during a workout, putting his training camp availability at risk, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was beginning to ramp up for the start of training camp after he missed the FIBA World Cup due to a lower leg injury he suffered at the end of the 2022-23 season but unfortunately suffered an ankle sprain during a workout. At this point, it is unknown whether or not Alvarado will be available for training camp or the Pelicans' first preseason game on October 10.
Jul 30, 2023
Sitting out FIBA World Cup
The Puerto Rican national team announced Thursday that Alvarado (lower leg) won't participate in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will sit out the FIBA World Cup after the Pelicans wouldn't clear the 25-year-old guard to play in the event after he suffered a stress reaction in his right tibia in late February, which kept him sidelined for New Orleans' final 20 games of the 2022-23 season. According to Puerto Rico's general manager, former NBA guard Carlos Arroyo, Alvarado underwent an MRI earlier in July that revealed he hadn't fully healed from the injury. Alvarado's absence from the FIBA event is still believed to be a matter of extra caution on the part of the Pelicans, who anticipate that he'll be fully cleared ahead of training camp.
Apr 11, 2023
Won't suit up for Play-In
Alvarado (leg) has been cleared to resume on-court activities, but he won't suit up for Wednesday's Play-In matchup against the Thunder and isn't expected to resume game action for at least one more week, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado hasn't played since Feb. 27 due to a stress reaction in his right tibia, but it appears he's making solid progress and could be available if the Pelicans secure a spot in the playoffs. However, given his lengthy absence, it may be a stretch to expect Alvarado to play his usual role right away if he is able to return at some point this season.
Mar 22, 2023
Return timetable pushed back
Recent imaging of Alvarado's right tibia has shown incremental improvement and he will re-examined in 2-3 weeks.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has already missed the last 10 games due to a stress fracture in his right tibia. His new timetable likely rules out a regular-season return, but he could retake the floor if the Pelicans make the Play-In Tournament. Kira Lewis and Dyson Daniels should continue to see extended minutes in Alvarado's absence.
Feb 28, 2023
Sidelined at least three weeks
Alvardo will be re-evaluated in three weeks after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right tibia.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado is far from guaranteed to retake the floor after his re-evaluation, but the team will at least measure where he's at when the date approaches. Without Alvardo available off the bench, the Pelicans will have to turn elsewhere for backup point guard duties. Among the options to see some added minutes are Kira Lewis, Dyson Daniels and Garrett Temple, while Josh Richardson could also slide over to point guard and open minutes for others.
Feb 15, 2023
Returns to bench
Alvarado isn't in the starting five for Wednesday's game against the Lakers, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
CJ McCollum will replace Alvarado in the starting lineup Wednesday after missing the previous game with an ankle injury. Alvarado is averaging 8.9 points, 2.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 20.4 minutes across his previous 47 contests coming off the bench.
Feb 13, 2023
Added to starting five
Alvarado is starting Monday's game against the Thunder, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will step into the starting lineup at point guard in place of CJ McCollum (ankle). Alvarado's last start dates back to Jan. 29 against the Bucks, when he finished with 18 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals in 29 minutes.
Jan 31, 2023
Returning to bench
Alvardo is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game at Denver, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old made a spot start Sunday with CJ McCollum (thumb) and Brandon Ingram (toe) inactive and posted 18 points (4-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 7-8 FT), six assists and three rebounds and two steals in 29 minutes, but he'll shift back to the bench Tuesday with McCollum and Ingram back in the lineup. Alvarado is averaging 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 20.9 minutes when coming off the bench this season.
Jan 30, 2023
Posts 18 points in starting role
Alvarado closed Sunday's 135-110 loss to the Bucks with 18 points (4-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 7-8 FT), three rebounds, six assists and two steals over 29 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado struggled a bit with his shot, but he managed to drain three attempts from downtown and had success at the charity stripe to salvage his bottom line. Alvarado has started nine games in his second season with the Pelicans, but the starts haven't radically affected his usual minutes. He'll hold some value if McCollum is unable to play with his thumb injury, making him a waiver wire consideration for the week.
Jan 29, 2023
Starting Sunday
Alvarado is starting Sunday's game against the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
With CJ McCollum (thumb) sidelined for Sunday's matchup, Alvarado will step into the starting lineup for the first time since Jan. 7. Over eight starts this season, he's averaged 10.0 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 27.6 minutes per game.
Jan 25, 2023
Scores 17 points off bench
Alvarado finished Tuesday's 99-98 loss to the Nuggets with 17 points (8-12 FG, 1-4 3Pt), one rebound and three assists over 27 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado bounced back with an extremely efficient performance Tuesday following a 1-for-8 outing in his previous appearance. The backup point guard has now scored in double figures in four of his past five games and is averaging 11.6 points, 2.8 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 27.6 minutes during that stretch. However, with Brandon Ingram (toe) set to return Wednesday, Alvarado could see his role slightly decrease moving forward.
Jan 21, 2023
Rounds out stat line in loss
Alvarado finished with 17 points (6-15 FG, 3-11 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one steal in 30 minutes in Friday's 123-110 loss to the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado's playing time has been on the rise of late, with the second-year guard reaching the 30-minute mark in three of his past four contests while averaging 11.3 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 2.3 three-pointers, 1.5 steals and 0.8 blocks over that stretch. If Alvarado can maintain that level of playing time, he would have some appeal in 12-team category leagues, but he'll be a prime candidate to lose some minutes whenever the Pelicans clear Brandon Ingram (toe) or Zion Williamson (hamstring) to play again.
Jan 16, 2023
Tallies five assists, three steals
Alvarado ended Monday's 113-103 loss to Cleveland with 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists and three steals across 34 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado had one of his better games in recent memory, logging a season-high 34 minutes in the loss. Seen as a steals specialist, Alvarado had been struggling on the defensive end prior to the last couple of games, recording a combined two steals across seven games. He remains a streaming consideration in standard formats but as we have seen lately, there is an element of risk associated with him.
Jan 8, 2023
Logs 14-and-7 in spot start
Alvarado notched 14 points (5-12 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, seven assists and one steal over 27 minutes during Saturday's 127-117 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado moved into the starting lineup Saturday, replacing C.J. McCollum who was given the night off for rest purposes. Despite only contributing one steal, Alvarado did a bit more on the offensive end, totaling 14 points and seven assists. This was his third straight game with double-digit scoring, making him a streaming consideration, at least until the Pelicans start getting their guys back.
Jan 7, 2023
Starting against Dallas
Alvarado is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
CJ McCollum won't play Saturday due to rest, so Alvarado gets the nod in the backcourt next to Trey Murphy. Alvarado has started seven times this season and is averaging 9.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.0 steals per contests in that role.
Jan 7, 2023
Solid performance off bench Friday
Alvarado closed with 17 points (6-16 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and two assists over 32 minutes during Friday's 108-102 loss to the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado didn't shoot the ball particularly well, but he still ended with a decent stat line off the bench. He's now scored in double digits in back-to-back games, but the nature of his bench role and the inconsistencies on his shot makes him a tough player to roster outside of deep formats. He's averaging just 9.9 points per game since the start of December, which is even worse considering that he had a 38-point game against the Nuggets during that span on Dec. 4.
Jan 3, 2023
Uneventful night Monday
Alvarado accumulated zero points (0-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt), two rebounds and three assists in 12 minutes during Monday's 120-111 loss to Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was unable to have an impact in the loss, continuing what has been a lean couple of weeks. He has now scored in single digits in seven of his past eight games, tallying 11 steals during that time. Given his sporadic offensive offerings, he should be viewed as just a streaming option in 12-team leagues.
Dec 28, 2022
Not starting Wednesday
Alvarado isn't in the starting lineup Wednesday against Minnesota, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
After earning a spot-start in the Pelicans' win over the Pacers on Monday, the guard returns to his normal role off the bench. Alvarado is averaging 9.2 points and 3.1 assists per game.
Dec 27, 2022
Tallies three steals in spot start
Alvarado ended Monday's 113-93 victory over the Pacers with eight points (3-11 FG, 1-8 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists and three steals over 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado did what he does best, garnering three steals as a member of the opening unit. With three of their regular starters on the sideline, Alvarado came through for anyone who happened to stream him in. His efficiency was far from perfect but his three defensive counters could certainly make a difference in a weekly matchup. Continue to roll with him until we get word that the absent players are returning to action.
Dec 26, 2022
Starting against Indiana
Alvarado is in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will get the starting nod in what will be a depleted Pelicans roster with only 10 players available. This will be his seventh start of the season, and he's averaging 9.7 points with 4.3 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game in the previous six.
Dec 17, 2022
Available Saturday
Alvarado (rib) will play in Saturday's game against Phoenix.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Alvarado will suit up Saturday after being listed as probable leading up to the contest. He missed the Pelicans' last game with the injury, allowing Devonte' Graham to receive 20 minutes of action. Alvarado shouldn't be under any sort of restrictions so expect him to fulfill his 20.7 minutes per game average.
Dec 16, 2022
Tabbed as probable
Alvarado (rib) is Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site in Saturday's matchup against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was held out of the Pelicans' last game due to the injury but is slated to return Saturday. His availability would spell fewer opportunities for Devonte' Graham and Dyson Daniels Saturday.
Dec 14, 2022
Won't play Thursday
Alvarado has been ruled out for Thursday's matchup with the Jazz due to a right rib contusion.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will miss his first game of the season Thursday. Devonte Graham, Kira Lewis and Dyson Daniels are all candidates to see extended minutes in his absence. Alvarado's next chance to play will be Saturday's game against the Suns.
Dec 10, 2022
Contributes 20 points off bench
Alvarado notched 20 points (6-10 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 5-7 FT), one rebound, two assists and three steals over 25 minutes during Friday's 128-117 win over Phoenix.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado had a terrific first half shooting the ball, knocking down five of seven shots for 16 points, including all three of his attempts from beyond the arc. He added only four more points in the second half on 1-of-3 shooting, though he did grab two of his three steals in the fourth quarter to help close out the Suns. Alvarado has now scored at least 20 points in two of his last three contests after previously failing to hit that mark in any game this season.
Dec 9, 2022
Giving it a go Friday
Alvarado (ribs) will play in Friday's affair with the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was a game-time decision and was waiting to see how his injury responded to pre-game warmups before a final decision was made. However, he was given the green light to suit up and give it a go Friday. Alvarado has averaged 9.6 points, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 21.2 minutes per game this season.
Dec 9, 2022
Game-time call Friday
Alvarado (ribs) will have his status decided following warm-ups for Friday's game against the Suns, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado was listed as questionable for the contest due to a rib contusion and will not be ruled in or out until shortly before tipoff. If he were to miss, more minutes would open up for Devonte' Graham while Kira Lewis could crack the rotation.
Dec 8, 2022
Questionable Friday
Alvarado (rib) is questionable for Friday's game against the Suns, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado exited Wednesday's game against Detroit due to a rib contusion but underwent X-rays that came back negative. It's not yet clear whether he'll be able to suit up Friday, but Devonte' Graham and Dyson Daniels are candidates to see increased run if Alvarado is unavailable.
Dec 7, 2022
Won't return Wednesday
Alvarado is out for the remainder of Wednesday's game versus the Pistons due to a rib contusion.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado tallied two points, two assists and two steals in 20 minutes before exiting Wednesday's game. However, X-rays on his ribs came back negative. Alvarado's status for Friday's game versus Phoenix is uncertain.
Dec 4, 2022
Posts season high off bench
Alvarado logged 38 points (12-19 FG, 8-11 3Pt, 6-7 FT), three rebounds, two assists and one steal over 27 minutes during Sunday's 121-106 victory over the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado followed a season-high-tying scoring total Friday by leading New Orleans in scoring with a new season-high mark in Sunday's victory. Alvarado connected on a season-best eight threes, now tallying 15 or more points in four games this season.
Dec 3, 2022
Scores season high off bench
Alvarado provided 15 points (5-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, five assists and two steals in 24 minutes during Friday's 117-99 win over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado provided a scoring punch off the bench for the Pelicans Friday. Alvarado also dished out five dimes without turning the ball over. The second-year guard is averaging 8.7 points, 3.4 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 20.9 minutes across 22 games this season.
Dec 2, 2022
Returns to bench
Alvarado will come off the bench during Friday's matchup against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
CJ McCollum's return to the starting lineup following a four-game absence due to COVID-19 protocols will shift Alvarado back to his usual bench role. Across 15 games as a reserve, Alvarado has averaged 7.9 points, 2.9 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 18.1 minutes per game.
Nov 23, 2022
Specialist performance Wednesday
Alvarado registered five points (2-5 FG, 1-2 3Pt), three rebounds, nine assists and three steals over 30 minutes during Wednesday's 129-110 victory over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado shifted into the starting lineup and as expected, provided excellent streaming value. Nine assists and three steals can be highly valuable, both categories that can be difficult to find on the waiver wire. His stint in the starting lineup could be a short one but until it ends, he is worth grabbing as a short-term specialist pickup.
Nov 23, 2022
Gets starting nod
Alvarado is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Spurs, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado gets the start Wednesday with CJ McCollum (illness) out. Alvarado is averaging 13.5 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 27.5 minutes across his two starts this season.
Nov 19, 2022
Reaches double figures again
Alvarado finished with 10 points (4-12 FG, 0-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in 24 minutes off the bench in Friday's 117-109 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Despite a poor shooting performance from distance, Alvarado ratcheted up the volume to hit double figures in the scoring column for the fourth game in a row. Though Alvarado has delivered most of his fantasy value in the assists, steals and three-pointers categories, his willingness of late to put up more shots can only be seen as a positive development for his outlook. Friday's game aside, Alvarado has typically gotten his points efficiently; he's shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three-point range on the season.
Nov 11, 2022
Struggles with efficiency in loss
Alvarado posted three points (1-5 FG, 1-4 3Pt), three rebounds and one assist in 17 minutes during Thursday's 106-95 loss to the Trail Blazers
ANALYSIS
Alvarado has cooled down from his early-season scoring but is still shooting 40.0 percent from three on 3.3 attempts per game. Alvarado has been a quality backup point guard for the Pelicans this season, especially when considering his defensive contributions.
Nov 3, 2022
Efficient scoring in loss
Alvarado tallied 15 points (6-8), four assists, two rebounds and one steal in 18 minutes during Wednesday's 120-117 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado's 15 points marked a season-high. The second-year guard has enjoyed increased playing time due to injuries to Brandon Ingram (concussion), Herbert Jones (knee) and Kira Lewis (knee). While Alvarado is not a consistent scorer, his 42.3 percent shooting from three through seven games is a huge improvement on his 29.1 percent from last season.
Oct 30, 2022
Returns to bench
Alvarado will come off the bench in Sunday's game against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
With Zion Williamson (hip) drawing back into the starting five Sunday, Alvarado's two-game run in the starting five will come to an end. Alvarado averaged 13.5 points, 3.0 assists, 2.5 three-pointers, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in in 27.5 minutes between those starts, and even though he's back on the bench, he shouldn't see a significant dip in playing time with two other regular starters in Brandon Ingram (concussion) and Herbert Jones (knee) still out of the lineup.
Oct 28, 2022
Will play Friday
Alvarado is available for Friday's contest against the Suns, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Alvarado will be good to go despite being listed as questionable due to a back injury. Brandon Ingram (concussion), Zion Williamson (hip) and Herbert Jones (knee) all remain out, so Alvarado will likely draw a second straight start. The backup point guard posted 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 26 minutes during his first start of the season Tuesday.
Oct 28, 2022
Likely available Friday
Pelicans head coach Willie Green said Alvarado (back) will more than likely play Friday against the Suns, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Barring a setback during warmups, it appears like Alvarado and CJ McCollum (finger) will suit up Friday. However, Herbert Jones (knee) and Zion Williamson (hip) remain true game-time decisions. Across four appearances (one start), Alvarado is averaging 8.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals in 20.3 minutes per game.
Oct 27, 2022
Questionable Friday
Alvarado (back spasms) is listed questionable for Friday's matchup against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado started the previous game with Herbert Jones (knee), Brandon Ingram (concussion) and Zion Williamson (hip) out and played 26 minutes, recording 13 points, three assists and three steals. Accompanying Alvarado as new additions to Friday's injury report are Dyson Daniels (ankle) and CJ McCollum (finger).
Oct 25, 2022
Set to start Tuesday
Alvarado is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado will make his second career start with Herb Jones (knee), Brandon Ingram (concussion), and Zion Williamson (hip) out. Alvarado will start alongside CJ McCollum in the backcourt but is more of a defensive specialist and shouldn't be counted upon for high-volume production.
Oct 8, 2022
Impressive off bench
Alvarado finished with 28 points (12-18 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one steal across 25 minutes in Friday's exhibition against Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado led the team in scoring and wasn't afraid to let it fly from the field, also leading the squad in attempts. He figures to be in line for a key bench role behind CJ McCollum as the season approaches, as he's shown plenty of potential on both sides of the ball.
Jul 11, 2022
Resting after heavy workload
Alvarado won't take the floor during Tuesday's Summer League contest versus Atlanta, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado played a lot recently with the Puerto Rican national team and the Pelicans don't want to overload him during the summer session. Per Will Guillory of The Athletic, Alvarado is likely done for the remainder of Summer League and will instead presumably shift his focus to training camp in the fall. The second-year guard is fresh off of signing a multi-year contract with the Pelicans and should log plenty of minutes off the bench again in 2022-23.
Mar 27, 2022
Signs multi-year deal with Pels
Alvarado and the Pelicans agreed to a four-year, $6.5 million contract Sunday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
As is often the case with two-way players, all four years of the deal are not fully guaranteed, but it appears as though Alvarado will stick with the Pelicans through at least the 2022-23 campaign. The signing is a showing of good faith by the Pelicans and a well-deserved reward for Alvarado, who's performed well this season and emerged as a very capable backup point guard. Including Sunday's come-from-behind win over the Lakers, Alvarado has now played double-digit minutes in 37 of his last 38 games.
Mar 27, 2022
Big game off bench against Spurs
Alvarado closed Saturday's 107-103 loss to the Spurs with 23 points (10-19 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), five rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal across 29 minutes off the bench.
ANALYSIS
Unfortunately for the Pelicans, Alvarado didn't just lead the second unit, he just about was the entire unit as the rest of the New Orleans bench combined for only 15 points. That's a figure the rookie has supplied on his own in four of the last seven games, averaging 12.4 points, 5.7 assists, 3.3 boards, 2.4 steals and 1.1 threes over that stretch.
Mar 25, 2022
Pops for 15 off bench
Alvarado finished Thursday's 126-109 victory over the Bulls with 15 points (5-10 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), one rebound, seven assists and three steals in 30 minutes off the bench.
ANALYSIS
The rookie guard continues to flash, scoring at least 15 points for the third time in the last six games while recording at least three steals for the sixth time in the last 11. Alvarado's overall game remains inconsistent, but he's proving to be useful in deeper fantasy formats, averaging 8.5 points, 4.5 assists, 2.7 boards, 2.3 steals and 1.0 threes in 21.7 minutes over that 11-game stretch.
Mar 18, 2022
Will play Friday
Alvarado is available for Friday's game against the Spurs, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado is good to go Friday and won't miss any time due to the finger laceration that caused him to land on the injury report. He's averaging 5.2 points, 2.5 assists, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 14.0 minutes per game this season.
Mar 17, 2022
Listed as questionable
Alvarado is listed as questionable for Friday's game against the Spurs due to a laceration on a finger on his left hand.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear when Alvarado sustained the injury, but the Pels will keep an eye on it and see how he feels on Friday. The backup point guard finished Tuesday's loss to Phoenix with three points, seven assists, one rebound and one steal in 19 minutes.
Mar 14, 2022
Tees off of Rockets in victory
Alvarado had 16 points (7-14 FG, 2-6 3Pt), two rebounds, 10 assists and six steals over 30 minutes during Sunday's 130-105 win over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado had the best game of his career as the Pelicans easily accounted for the Rockets, notching his first double-double, adding an incredible six steals. While this should certainly be viewed as an outlier, the rookie has been a solid source of steals for most of the season. In fact, over the past two weeks, Alvarado is averaging 2.1 steals in just 19 minutes per game. Until C.J. McCollum and Brandon Ingram are back on the court, Alvarado has a chance to take on an increased role, making him a backend 12-team option.
Mar 9, 2022
Garners four steals in loss Tuesday
Alvarado closed with five points (2-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds, four assists, one block and four steals across 20 minutes during Tuesday's 132-111 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado brought the defensive numbers Tuesday, with his four steals representing his highest total in that category since late January. With the Pelicans pushing for a playoff berth, Alvarado appears to be stuck in a role that only lends itself to deeper league value. At a pinch, managers in 12-team leagues could stream him in if looking for a quick boost in steal numbers.
Feb 11, 2022
Big game off bench
Alvarado scored 17 points (7-12 FG, 3-6 3Pt) while adding a rebound and an assist in 20 minutes off the bench during Thursday's 112-97 loss to the Heat.
ANALYSIS
He led the Pelicans in scoring on the night, although that was the extent of his impact. Alvarado is proving to be a useful find for New Orleans as an undrafted rookie, and over the last 11 games he's averaging 9.4 points, 2.8 assists, 1.7 boards, 1.5 steals and 1.1 threes in 18.9 minutes while shooting an impressive 50.6 percent from the floor.
Jan 30, 2022
Leads team with 19 points
Alvarado registered 19 points (8-11 FG, 3-4 3Pt), four rebounds, two assists and four steals across 20 minutes during Saturday's 107-97 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
With Brandon Ingram (ankle) and Jonas Vlanciunas (illness) sidelined, the rookie seized the opportunity and matched his career-high as a pro. Alvarado shot a sizzling 72.7 percent from the floor and drained three three-pointers in four attempts. If the Pelicans' best scoring options remain out, we should see at least one more standout game from the Oklahoma product.
Jan 26, 2022
Solid line in first start
Alvarado produced 11 points (4-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-4 FT), three rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals over 33 minutes during Tuesday's 117-107 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
The undrafted rookie out of Georgia Tech made his first career start with Devonte' Graham, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart out with ankle injuries, and he tied for the team lead in assists and blocks. It was the first time all season Alvarado played more than 20 minutes in a game, and his role for Friday's matchup with Denver will depend on the health of the starting backcourt.
Jan 25, 2022
Starting Tuesday
Alvarado will start Tuesday's game against the 76ers, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado is getting his first career start as the Pelicans deal with a myriad of injuries across the roster. He's earned the trust of the coaching staff lately and has played 10-plus minutes in 10 straight games. Per 36 minutes, he's averaging 11.9 points, 5.9 assists, 3.8 steals and 3.6 assists.
Jan 21, 2022
Excels in win
Alvarado ended with 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt), four assists and four steals over 20 minutes during Thursday's 102-91 win over New York.
ANALYSIS
The rookie was efficient in route to the first double-digit scoring performance of his career. He logged a plus-12 in the box score, leading the second unit. A G League floater, Alvarado has been seeing steadily increasing playing time throughout January. He has a path for minutes as the back-up point guard in New Orleans.

Solid peripheral numbers Thursday
Alvarado registered four points (2-3 FG), eight rebounds, four assists and three steals over 15 minutes during Thursday's 113-89 win over Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado played 15 minutes off the bench in the victory but came away with some nice peripheral production. Garbage time was a factor here but Alvarado is proving to be a name worth watching, at least in deeper formats. Nickeil Alexander-Walker (six points and one block in 21 minutes) has offered very little as the backup point guard, meaning Alvarado could be in line for a short-term boost in playing time.

Placed in protocols
Alvarado entered the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols prior to the Pelicans' 108-104 win over the Cavaliers on Tuesday, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The two-way rookie is one of three Pelicans included in the protocols, joining Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Naji Marshall. Even when available this season, Alvarado hasn't regularly factored into the New Orleans rotation.

Plays 12 mintues in blowout
Alvarado supplied two points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two rebounds and one steal across 12 minutes during Saturday's 111-94 loss to the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Alvarado played the entire fourth quarter as the game descended into garbage time. While it is always nice to see some of the benchwarmers out on the court, this is going to have no impact on fantasy leagues anywhere.
