The Puerto Rican national team announced Thursday that Alvarado (lower leg) won't participate in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.

Alvarado will sit out the FIBA World Cup after the Pelicans wouldn't clear the 25-year-old guard to play in the event after he suffered a stress reaction in his right tibia in late February, which kept him sidelined for New Orleans' final 20 games of the 2022-23 season. According to Puerto Rico's general manager, former NBA guard Carlos Arroyo, Alvarado underwent an MRI earlier in July that revealed he hadn't fully healed from the injury. Alvarado's absence from the FIBA event is still believed to be a matter of extra caution on the part of the Pelicans, who anticipate that he'll be fully cleared ahead of training camp.

Alvarado (leg) has been cleared to resume on-court activities, but he won't suit up for Wednesday's Play-In matchup against the Thunder and isn't expected to resume game action for at least one more week, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.

Alvarado hasn't played since Feb. 27 due to a stress reaction in his right tibia, but it appears he's making solid progress and could be available if the Pelicans secure a spot in the playoffs. However, given his lengthy absence, it may be a stretch to expect Alvarado to play his usual role right away if he is able to return at some point this season.

Recent imaging of Alvarado's right tibia has shown incremental improvement and he will re-examined in 2-3 weeks.

Alvarado has already missed the last 10 games due to a stress fracture in his right tibia. His new timetable likely rules out a regular-season return, but he could retake the floor if the Pelicans make the Play-In Tournament. Kira Lewis and Dyson Daniels should continue to see extended minutes in Alvarado's absence.

Alvardo will be re-evaluated in three weeks after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right tibia.

Alvarado is far from guaranteed to retake the floor after his re-evaluation, but the team will at least measure where he's at when the date approaches. Without Alvardo available off the bench, the Pelicans will have to turn elsewhere for backup point guard duties. Among the options to see some added minutes are Kira Lewis, Dyson Daniels and Garrett Temple, while Josh Richardson could also slide over to point guard and open minutes for others.

CJ McCollum will replace Alvarado in the starting lineup Wednesday after missing the previous game with an ankle injury. Alvarado is averaging 8.9 points, 2.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 20.4 minutes across his previous 47 contests coming off the bench.

Alvarado is starting Monday's game against the Thunder, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Alvarado will step into the starting lineup at point guard in place of CJ McCollum (ankle). Alvarado's last start dates back to Jan. 29 against the Bucks, when he finished with 18 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals in 29 minutes.

Alvardo is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game at Denver, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.

The 24-year-old made a spot start Sunday with CJ McCollum (thumb) and Brandon Ingram (toe) inactive and posted 18 points (4-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 7-8 FT), six assists and three rebounds and two steals in 29 minutes, but he'll shift back to the bench Tuesday with McCollum and Ingram back in the lineup. Alvarado is averaging 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 20.9 minutes when coming off the bench this season.

Alvarado closed Sunday's 135-110 loss to the Bucks with 18 points (4-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 7-8 FT), three rebounds, six assists and two steals over 29 minutes.

Alvarado struggled a bit with his shot, but he managed to drain three attempts from downtown and had success at the charity stripe to salvage his bottom line. Alvarado has started nine games in his second season with the Pelicans, but the starts haven't radically affected his usual minutes. He'll hold some value if McCollum is unable to play with his thumb injury, making him a waiver wire consideration for the week.

Alvarado is starting Sunday's game against the Bucks.

With CJ McCollum (thumb) sidelined for Sunday's matchup, Alvarado will step into the starting lineup for the first time since Jan. 7. Over eight starts this season, he's averaged 10.0 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 27.6 minutes per game.

Alvarado bounced back with an extremely efficient performance Tuesday following a 1-for-8 outing in his previous appearance. The backup point guard has now scored in double figures in four of his past five games and is averaging 11.6 points, 2.8 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 27.6 minutes during that stretch. However, with Brandon Ingram (toe) set to return Wednesday, Alvarado could see his role slightly decrease moving forward.

Alvarado finished with 17 points (6-15 FG, 3-11 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one steal in 30 minutes in Friday's 123-110 loss to the Magic.

Alvarado's playing time has been on the rise of late, with the second-year guard reaching the 30-minute mark in three of his past four contests while averaging 11.3 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 2.3 three-pointers, 1.5 steals and 0.8 blocks over that stretch. If Alvarado can maintain that level of playing time, he would have some appeal in 12-team category leagues, but he'll be a prime candidate to lose some minutes whenever the Pelicans clear Brandon Ingram (toe) or Zion Williamson (hamstring) to play again.

Alvarado ended Monday's 113-103 loss to Cleveland with 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists and three steals across 34 minutes.

Alvarado had one of his better games in recent memory, logging a season-high 34 minutes in the loss. Seen as a steals specialist, Alvarado had been struggling on the defensive end prior to the last couple of games, recording a combined two steals across seven games. He remains a streaming consideration in standard formats but as we have seen lately, there is an element of risk associated with him.

Alvarado notched 14 points (5-12 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, seven assists and one steal over 27 minutes during Saturday's 127-117 loss to the Mavericks.

Alvarado moved into the starting lineup Saturday, replacing C.J. McCollum who was given the night off for rest purposes. Despite only contributing one steal, Alvarado did a bit more on the offensive end, totaling 14 points and seven assists. This was his third straight game with double-digit scoring, making him a streaming consideration, at least until the Pelicans start getting their guys back.

Alvarado is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Mavericks.

CJ McCollum won't play Saturday due to rest, so Alvarado gets the nod in the backcourt next to Trey Murphy. Alvarado has started seven times this season and is averaging 9.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.0 steals per contests in that role.

Alvarado closed with 17 points (6-16 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and two assists over 32 minutes during Friday's 108-102 loss to the Nets.

Alvarado didn't shoot the ball particularly well, but he still ended with a decent stat line off the bench. He's now scored in double digits in back-to-back games, but the nature of his bench role and the inconsistencies on his shot makes him a tough player to roster outside of deep formats. He's averaging just 9.9 points per game since the start of December, which is even worse considering that he had a 38-point game against the Nuggets during that span on Dec. 4.

Alvarado accumulated zero points (0-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt), two rebounds and three assists in 12 minutes during Monday's 120-111 loss to Philadelphia.

Alvarado was unable to have an impact in the loss, continuing what has been a lean couple of weeks. He has now scored in single digits in seven of his past eight games, tallying 11 steals during that time. Given his sporadic offensive offerings, he should be viewed as just a streaming option in 12-team leagues.

Alvarado isn't in the starting lineup Wednesday against Minnesota, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

After earning a spot-start in the Pelicans' win over the Pacers on Monday, the guard returns to his normal role off the bench. Alvarado is averaging 9.2 points and 3.1 assists per game.

Alvarado ended Monday's 113-93 victory over the Pacers with eight points (3-11 FG, 1-8 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists and three steals over 30 minutes.

Alvarado did what he does best, garnering three steals as a member of the opening unit. With three of their regular starters on the sideline, Alvarado came through for anyone who happened to stream him in. His efficiency was far from perfect but his three defensive counters could certainly make a difference in a weekly matchup. Continue to roll with him until we get word that the absent players are returning to action.

Alvarado will get the starting nod in what will be a depleted Pelicans roster with only 10 players available. This will be his seventh start of the season, and he's averaging 9.7 points with 4.3 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game in the previous six.

Alvarado has now scored at least 20 points in two of his last three contests after previously failing to hit that mark in any game this season.

His stint in the starting lineup could be a short one but until it ends, he is worth grabbing as a short-term specialist pickup.

Friday's game aside, Alvarado has typically gotten his points efficiently; he's shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three-point range on the season.

Alvarado posted three points (1-5 FG, 1-4 3Pt), three rebounds and one assist in 17 minutes during Thursday's 106-95 loss to the Trail Blazers

Alvarado has cooled down from his early-season scoring but is still shooting 40.0 percent from three on 3.3 attempts per game. Alvarado has been a quality backup point guard for the Pelicans this season, especially when considering his defensive contributions.

Alvarado tallied 15 points (6-8), four assists, two rebounds and one steal in 18 minutes during Wednesday's 120-117 loss to the Lakers.

Alvarado's 15 points marked a season-high. The second-year guard has enjoyed increased playing time due to injuries to Brandon Ingram (concussion), Herbert Jones (knee) and Kira Lewis (knee). While Alvarado is not a consistent scorer, his 42.3 percent shooting from three through seven games is a huge improvement on his 29.1 percent from last season.

Alvarado will come off the bench in Sunday's game against the Clippers.

With Zion Williamson (hip) drawing back into the starting five Sunday, Alvarado's two-game run in the starting five will come to an end. Alvarado averaged 13.5 points, 3.0 assists, 2.5 three-pointers, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in in 27.5 minutes between those starts, and even though he's back on the bench, he shouldn't see a significant dip in playing time with two other regular starters in Brandon Ingram (concussion) and Herbert Jones (knee) still out of the lineup.

Alvarado (back spasms) is listed questionable for Friday's matchup against the Suns.

Alvarado started the previous game with Herbert Jones (knee), Brandon Ingram (concussion) and Zion Williamson (hip) out and played 26 minutes, recording 13 points, three assists and three steals. Accompanying Alvarado as new additions to Friday's injury report are Dyson Daniels (ankle) and CJ McCollum (finger).

Alvarado will make his second career start with Herb Jones (knee), Brandon Ingram (concussion), and Zion Williamson (hip) out. Alvarado will start alongside CJ McCollum in the backcourt but is more of a defensive specialist and shouldn't be counted upon for high-volume production.

Alvarado won't take the floor during Tuesday's Summer League contest versus Atlanta, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.

Alvarado played a lot recently with the Puerto Rican national team and the Pelicans don't want to overload him during the summer session. Per Will Guillory of The Athletic, Alvarado is likely done for the remainder of Summer League and will instead presumably shift his focus to training camp in the fall. The second-year guard is fresh off of signing a multi-year contract with the Pelicans and should log plenty of minutes off the bench again in 2022-23.

Alvarado and the Pelicans agreed to a four-year, $6.5 million contract Sunday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

As is often the case with two-way players, all four years of the deal are not fully guaranteed, but it appears as though Alvarado will stick with the Pelicans through at least the 2022-23 campaign. The signing is a showing of good faith by the Pelicans and a well-deserved reward for Alvarado, who's performed well this season and emerged as a very capable backup point guard. Including Sunday's come-from-behind win over the Lakers, Alvarado has now played double-digit minutes in 37 of his last 38 games.

Unfortunately for the Pelicans, Alvarado didn't just lead the second unit, he just about was the entire unit as the rest of the New Orleans bench combined for only 15 points. That's a figure the rookie has supplied on his own in four of the last seven games, averaging 12.4 points, 5.7 assists, 3.3 boards, 2.4 steals and 1.1 threes over that stretch.

Alvarado finished Thursday's 126-109 victory over the Bulls with 15 points (5-10 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), one rebound, seven assists and three steals in 30 minutes off the bench.

The rookie guard continues to flash, scoring at least 15 points for the third time in the last six games while recording at least three steals for the sixth time in the last 11. Alvarado's overall game remains inconsistent, but he's proving to be useful in deeper fantasy formats, averaging 8.5 points, 4.5 assists, 2.7 boards, 2.3 steals and 1.0 threes in 21.7 minutes over that 11-game stretch.

Alvarado is good to go Friday and won't miss any time due to the finger laceration that caused him to land on the injury report. He's averaging 5.2 points, 2.5 assists, 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 14.0 minutes per game this season.

Alvarado had the best game of his career as the Pelicans easily accounted for the Rockets, notching his first double-double, adding an incredible six steals. While this should certainly be viewed as an outlier, the rookie has been a solid source of steals for most of the season. In fact, over the past two weeks, Alvarado is averaging 2.1 steals in just 19 minutes per game. Until C.J. McCollum and Brandon Ingram are back on the court, Alvarado has a chance to take on an increased role, making him a backend 12-team option.

Alvarado closed with five points (2-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds, four assists, one block and four steals across 20 minutes during Tuesday's 132-111 loss to the Grizzlies.

Alvarado brought the defensive numbers Tuesday, with his four steals representing his highest total in that category since late January. With the Pelicans pushing for a playoff berth, Alvarado appears to be stuck in a role that only lends itself to deeper league value. At a pinch, managers in 12-team leagues could stream him in if looking for a quick boost in steal numbers.

Alvarado scored 17 points (7-12 FG, 3-6 3Pt) while adding a rebound and an assist in 20 minutes off the bench during Thursday's 112-97 loss to the Heat.

He led the Pelicans in scoring on the night, although that was the extent of his impact. Alvarado is proving to be a useful find for New Orleans as an undrafted rookie, and over the last 11 games he's averaging 9.4 points, 2.8 assists, 1.7 boards, 1.5 steals and 1.1 threes in 18.9 minutes while shooting an impressive 50.6 percent from the floor.

Alvarado registered 19 points (8-11 FG, 3-4 3Pt), four rebounds, two assists and four steals across 20 minutes during Saturday's 107-97 loss to the Celtics.

With Brandon Ingram (ankle) and Jonas Vlanciunas (illness) sidelined, the rookie seized the opportunity and matched his career-high as a pro. Alvarado shot a sizzling 72.7 percent from the floor and drained three three-pointers in four attempts. If the Pelicans' best scoring options remain out, we should see at least one more standout game from the Oklahoma product.

Alvarado produced 11 points (4-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-4 FT), three rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals over 33 minutes during Tuesday's 117-107 loss to the 76ers.

The undrafted rookie out of Georgia Tech made his first career start with Devonte' Graham, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart out with ankle injuries, and he tied for the team lead in assists and blocks. It was the first time all season Alvarado played more than 20 minutes in a game, and his role for Friday's matchup with Denver will depend on the health of the starting backcourt.

Alvarado will start Tuesday's game against the 76ers, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Alvarado is getting his first career start as the Pelicans deal with a myriad of injuries across the roster. He's earned the trust of the coaching staff lately and has played 10-plus minutes in 10 straight games. Per 36 minutes, he's averaging 11.9 points, 5.9 assists, 3.8 steals and 3.6 assists.

Alvarado ended with 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt), four assists and four steals over 20 minutes during Thursday's 102-91 win over New York.

The rookie was efficient in route to the first double-digit scoring performance of his career. He logged a plus-12 in the box score, leading the second unit. A G League floater, Alvarado has been seeing steadily increasing playing time throughout January. He has a path for minutes as the back-up point guard in New Orleans.

Alvarado registered four points (2-3 FG), eight rebounds, four assists and three steals over 15 minutes during Thursday's 113-89 win over Los Angeles.

Alvarado played 15 minutes off the bench in the victory but came away with some nice peripheral production. Garbage time was a factor here but Alvarado is proving to be a name worth watching, at least in deeper formats. Nickeil Alexander-Walker (six points and one block in 21 minutes) has offered very little as the backup point guard, meaning Alvarado could be in line for a short-term boost in playing time.

Alvarado entered the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols prior to the Pelicans' 108-104 win over the Cavaliers on Tuesday, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.

The two-way rookie is one of three Pelicans included in the protocols, joining Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Naji Marshall. Even when available this season, Alvarado hasn't regularly factored into the New Orleans rotation.

Alvarado supplied two points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two rebounds and one steal across 12 minutes during Saturday's 111-94 loss to the Pacers.

Alvarado played the entire fourth quarter as the game descended into garbage time. While it is always nice to see some of the benchwarmers out on the court, this is going to have no impact on fantasy leagues anywhere.
