First career double-double
Castro finished Saturday's 93-55 victory over Albany with 12 points (5-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one block and one steal across 17 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Castro logged season-high totals in points and rebounds, en route to the first double-double of his brief collegiate career. The freshman is trending upwards, having logged 15-plus minutes in four of Providence's last five games.

In line for key role in 2022-23
Providence head coach Ed Cooley told Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports on Monday that Castro could have a big impact this season.
ANALYSIS
Castro redshirted last season, but after averaging 11 points and eight rebounds per contest in two exhibition games, it sounds like the 6-foot-11 big man could be in line for a big year. Jared Bynum is likely to remain the focal point of Providence's offense in 2022-23, but Cooley seems encouraged by what he's seen from Castro during the preseason.

Draws start in exhibition
Castro started and had four points (2-3 FG), eight rebounds and four blocks across 19 minutes in Saturday's 106-69 exhibition victory over Assumption.
ANALYSIS
Castro has been a standout in exhibition play, and while the competition has been nothing to write home about, his usage and production have still been encouraging. Initially thought to serve as a backup center, the 6-11 freshman now appears to be making a bid for a starting role, which would move frontcourt mate Ed Croswell over to the four. Top reserve big man Clifton Moore was also a major factor in this one, collecting 12 points and seven rebounds in his 19 minutes on the court.

Gets hot in exhibition
Castro had a team-high 18 points (8-8 FG,
1-1 3Pt,
1-4 FT) to go along with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in an exhibition victory over American International College.
ANALYSIS
Following a redshirt season, Castro appears to be in competition with Clifton Moore for the role of primary frontcourt reserve, though it also appears Providence will often utilize a small-ball lineup with 6-8 Ed Croswell and 6-7 Bryce Hopkins as the starters. It's still great to see Castro take care of business against an overmatched opponent, and he'll have a chance to build on this performance with another exhibition game set for Oct. 29.

Looking at redshirt
Castro was spotted in street clothes at Thursday's exhibition and is expected to redshirt the 2021-22 season, college basketball journalist Kevin McNamara reports.
ANALYSIS
Castro is a consensus three-star power forward that might have had a tough time cracking the rotation with upperclassmen Noah Horchler and Ed Croswell set to get most of the minutes at the position, with fellow three-star prospect Legend Geeter also in the mix. Any injury would only slow things down further, so it appears the team has determined a year on the sidelines would be the best course of action.
